Let's see, yeah, let me guess. You're drinking your PG Tips, which is standard tea. British Liz: Well I I was I was. I KENT: I always say generic, but I had to make sure I wrote it down. you were. Okay. British Liz: finished it, so now I'm on Diet Coke. KENT: Right, Coke. See, you are disproving the title of our podcast, Conversations with Coffee. British Liz: With Coke. KENT: There you go. See? our our subscriber was like, Well, it's not really conversations with coffee if Liz isn't drinking it. And I was like, Well, she goes against British Liz: Okay. KENT: the grain on everything. So yes. British Liz: I will I will drink coffee. I did drink coffee at on one episode. I did. So ex so exciting. Okay, I will I will KENT: You did and that was the best episode ever 'cause it was Conversations with Coffee. my gosh. So you're having like British Liz: amend my ways and I will drink coffee next time. KENT: I I ain't saying amend your ways list. I'm just saying, get with the times like you can drink your you can drink British Liz: So, amend my ways. Yeah, okay. KENT: your generic I mean standard tea. Standard tea, British Liz: Standard. Thank you. Thank you. KENT: PG tips. you know, people will make that exception. The subscriber that we have will make that exception that you're drinking standard tea. Hot tea, not cold, hot tea. British Liz: Yes. It's in ca yes, it's in character for my KENT: Yes, yes, yes. British Liz: for my p personality. KENT: my gosh. So yeah, I British Liz: Okay. And what are you drinking? KENT: I well first of all I got my Star Wars cup. British Liz: yes, I see. KENT: You know, if you're watching the video you can see the old school British Liz: poster, yeah. KENT: poster, you know, I actually you know where I got this cup? New York Comic Con. British Liz: Really? KENT: Yes, I I got this cup. It's what is it? It's a tervis. It's a tervis cup. Yep, British Liz: yeah, Jarvis Tumbler, yeah. KENT: yeah, Tom. And I got it for free. Can you believe that? I got well, let's just British Liz: What a shock, what a shock. KENT: say I was in cosplay in my stormtrooper British Liz: Okay. KENT: and I walked by the Tervis booth at the time and they're like, my gosh, a stormtrooper, will you take a picture with our cup? And I was like, Sure. Can I have the cup after I'm done? And they're like, Sure. So I got Tervis cup British Liz: Nice. KENT: out of taking a picture with it. They used it. in a couple of their ad campaigns and stuff like that, which was great. I got to be on some stuff s and I got a free plastic cup out of it. And I've British Liz: Nice. KENT: had it ever since. So I use it all the time. It's like British Liz: Now is it it's kinda hard to see with the reflection. Is it kind of an insert inside the vacuum of the cut layers? KENT: Yeah, it is, but I there's no way of getting to it. British Liz: Yeah. Mm. KENT: It's like a paper insert of the poster. But there's British Liz: Mm-hmm. KENT: no way of getting inside of that sucker. Like I've literally British Liz: I I had I had a Doctor Who cup, a vacuum type cup, wasn't particularly vacuumed, so first time I washed it all the paper got wet and it KENT: yeah. I ran this thing, the wash machine, the microwave. I the British Liz: The microwave. KENT: microwave just to heat up a cup of coffee. I was like, let's test this out. I'm like, I'm one of those ones like British Liz: Interesting. KENT: I'll test it out and if it melts, I'll throw it away. British Liz: If the microwave explodes, however, that's just tough. KENT: Yeah, yeah. So this thing, tried and true. Love it. Got my bulletproof coffee, British Liz: Nice. KENT: s'mores. Mm mm mm mm mm mm mm. Yum yum yum yum. Yeah, I was just talking with some friends about the bulletproof coffee at the convention I was at my gosh. British Liz: the one in Hotland. KENT: The one in Hotlanta, yes, yes, yes. I know you're British Liz: Okay. KENT: just itching to get into the topic and just talk about British Liz: Yes. KENT: Dragon Con British Liz: Yes. I do. I do. KENT: my gosh, Liz. Why didn't you just go? You should have just gone. British Liz: Yeah, I shoulda. Yeah, shoulda, shoulda. well. Yes. I went KENT: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I know you've been before. Yeah. British Liz: in twenty twenty four and it was yeah, it was KENT: Twenty twenty four. Ooh. Hot land of then too. British Liz: yes. And I seem to remember I had to I was staying in some place not in downtown. So KENT: Uh-huh. British Liz: I had to walk to the train or the bus or something. KENT: Okay. Yeah, yeah. British Liz: And so I well it did end up being Quite warm a lot of the time. KENT: my gosh. See, you were just talking about something and I'm like, I have something to show you. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: my gosh. Too bad we can't just pause this. I have some it's all right. I'll show it on another podcast. Because, you know, British Liz: Okay. KENT: when you go to DragonCon, there's just so much to it. It's not just, autographs and and cosplay and panels. It's I mean Dragoncon the We were talking about this, why Dragon Con is the why it's not at a convention center. Because it goes twenty British Liz: Why KENT: four seven. Where if you do it at a convention center, they have it only they can only open the convention center from one time to another and they've got to shut it down. British Liz: So that's why they have it in the hotels. KENT: Well, it started in the hotels and it just stayed that way and people loved it and it's expanded. It's literally five hotels that are part of it now. It was three. It was the Hyatt, the Marriott, and the Hilton. now they got the Courtland and the Weston. so my goodness, it's just expanding. And and then of course there's the non host hotel, the Omni, because it's over the hill. but yeah. It's no, British Liz: Do they have events also at the Omni or not? KENT: no. But a little birdie told me it might become a host hotel. Ooh. Yeah, yeah. But British Liz: So KENT: yeah, it's crazy. I I personally would never stay at the Marriott because it's party Mecca Central. And if you want to get some sleep, you either need some earbuds or just can sleep with all the noise. British Liz: Yeah. my goodness. Yeah. Yes. KENT: 'Cause it goes up that vacuum tube. So and the Marriott and and the Hyatt and the Hilton are j just as noisy. But it's where British Liz: Yes, yes, said KENT: everything is located at. British Liz: Yes, so it's the hub of activity. do you I saw that you have a picture of the kinds of crowds. KENT: I do, I do. before we get to that, I I have to I mean you that's what British Liz: I keep jumping the gun, I'm sorry. KENT: you do. You are a gun jumper. Pew pew. Uhhuh. British Liz: Mm. Yeah, sorry. KENT: this year, I mean, I've been doing it, I want to say like twelve to f I can't remember the first one I went to. I think it's been at least fifteen years. I've been doing British Liz: Okay. KENT: Dragon Con. and each year is different and it just grows. they said on the news that eighty seventy-five to eighty thousand ticket holders were there. I would say more like a hundred and twenty-five thousand people went through there. You know, those are also the people that don't have tickets but can go to the parties and go to stuff. Now, British Liz: Right. Yes. KENT: DragonCon, you cannot go through the Hyatt, the Hilton, or the Marriott without a badge. Like they British Liz: Yes. KENT: have security at the doors, like no badges or a room key. You no get in. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: They literally locked that down on Thursday. Now the crazy thing. That happened this year. And our subscriber will actually attest to this that the computer system went down on ticketing on Thursday. Yeah. Yeah, they had something crashed on the computer system. People were standing in British Liz: Mm-hmm. KENT: the hot sun for hours and then told British Liz: no. KENT: to come back because the computer system went down. British Liz: disaster. KENT: Now. Disaster. Yes. It was if you go on to I don't know, Dragon Con or the boards. there's so many things that happened at Dragon Con this year that we could talk about. This will be a long podcast. probably two parts. British Liz: Ha ha ha. KENT: We we need to bring somebody on that was at DragonCon as well. So but yeah, the computer systems went down and I was like, All right, they're using the Courtland To have as the hub to pick up your badge and everything. And the lines were you waited an hour to two hours in line. Now, I feel they need to make it a hub, a multiple hub spot, meaning two or three different locations where you can go to pick up your batch. So, like if this line is too long, I know I can walk a little bit further over this way to get my badge, and I might only wait a little bit. of time. So it spreads it out. It's all on in the cloud. So if a computer's one of the hubs goes down, they still got two other hubs to use. That would make sense. British Liz: Right. Well, especially on Wednesday and Thursday. KENT: Yes, because everybody needs to get their badge, otherwise, you're not gonna get into the hotel or have access and stuff. British Liz: Yeah, yeah. KENT: so it was very frustrating for a lot of people. so yeah. now before the badge pickup, you know, a lot of people went Wednesday. Wednesday is the new Thursday. No, when yeah, Wednesday's the new Thursday because everybody is showing up. Well, you People used to show up Thursday and that was crowded and got ready for Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Now they're showing up earlier. They're showing up on Wednesday to make it the new Thursday. let me British Liz: So wait, does it go Monday as well? KENT: Yeah. Yeah. British Liz: Really? KENT: Monday. They start tearing stuff down on Monday. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: the Hollywood Walk of Fame is dismal at best. There's British Liz: Yeah. KENT: still people that's still signing and doing autographs and pictures there, but it's it's very few and far between. A lot of them leave on Sunday. British Liz: Mm-hmm. KENT: but yeah, I mean there's people that will sta stay till Tuesday, just not have to deal with all the crowds of running out of the hotels. I was talking with a a friend at the Hyatt, and it was a hour and 30 minute wait to get your car on Sunday. no, Monday. Monday. Monday. Hour British Liz: my goodness. KENT: and 30 minutes just to get your car out of the valet. So yeah. it's crazy. It's fun. There's so much stuff going on. I was there. I got in Wednesday morning and everything, but you know, they have no, I flew in, flew in, met British Liz: did you drive or fly? Okay. KENT: some friends, took the Marta and got checked British Liz: that's right. KENT: in But yeah, Wednesday night is the countdown to the start of Dragon Con. And so Every year I'll run around, I'll take some pictures and stuff like that. And so I went up two floors just to get a bird's eye view of what it looked like. And this was Wednesday night, British Liz: no. That is KENT: not at its prime. That was just the normal that was like nine o'clock at night. Not counting up to midnight. British Liz: And was it was there anything like open and doing or were they picking up badges or what KENT: No, those are people just taking pictures of cosplays. as you can see the tables at the bottom. They've got swag down there. So people are exchanging British Liz: Mm. KENT: swag and ribbons and my gosh, that is a whole entity in itself. you know, the the ribbons galore. Like yeah, yeah, like British Liz: yes. KENT: this one. I I love this one. I know this because I am intelligent and articulate. You should compliment me now. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: if you saw somebody dressed up as Meg Griffin, shut up, Meg. British Liz: is that f Family Guy? Okay, yes. KENT: It's a reference family guy. Yes. Yes, yes, yes. And then, you there's all kinds of TARDIS ones. there was a guy that was dressed up as Michael J. Fox that says it's not a life vest. British Liz: Yes. KENT: the s even some of the vendors at the restaurants and stuff were giving away. There's a flaky, flaky dessert place that you can get ribbons I I had a drink up at the Polaris. They gave out ribbons. you know, there's just all kinds of I mean, they had the contest for the ribbons. People British Liz: Uh-huh. KENT: get all these ribbons and people collect them and they put on their badges and stuff like that. British Liz: Yeah. Don't they call that badge beards? Badge beard. KENT: Badge beards, yes, that is the correct term, badge beards. And British Liz: Yeah. KENT: so I found out because my friend runs the competition on that, they do a drop of the ribbons on Sunday at Sunday at four, four PM. And the only reason I didn't get to go is I was getting my gu guest out the door to get onto their plane. And I guess they British Liz: But do they like sit on the third floor or something and drop drop them down? KENT: So so I learned a little bit about this. The there's a room where they measure the ribbons and make sure there's not duplicates it's a whole thing. And they will guesstimate how high up you've got to go on what floor to drop your ribbons. and then it's all done at the Hyatt. The Hyatt started this, but they'll do a precursor at the Hilton. And drop it and do a thing like that. But at four o'clock on Sunday, I heard it was elbow to elbow. People the security was not happy because they had to shut down the escalators to go down because it was so crowded, people couldn't even get down to where they needed to be. It was so there were so many people. British Liz: they couldn't get off the escalator. KENT: Yeah, and yeah, but the winner dropped their ribbons, their ribbon beard from the eleventh floor. British Liz: Yeah. Eleventh. KENT: Yeah. Last year I think it was eight. This year it was eleven. so yeah. Think about that's a lot of ribbons. And she needed somebody to help her hold the badge because they're attached to your badge. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: And she needed somebody to help her hold it because the weight of all those ribbons dropping down. Yeah. It was crazy. I learned a lot. I British Liz: That is KENT: I learned, watched, saw a lot this year. Yeah. Eleven force. British Liz: That is that is just KENT: These little tiny ribbons all stacked up on each other, So British Liz: And each one is what n knot not maybe an inch deep, tall, something like KENT: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. But you know, you go, you collect. I mean, I had I people were coming up to me just giving to me 'cause I was with talent and you know, our I invention British Liz: Who who are you with? KENT: I was with Jack. so you know, I was people were just throwing different ribbons at me and him and or I'd say something about their costume and they'd give it to me and stuff like that. So it was fun. They even had a somebody give me a one I didn't wear a onesie, but on Wednesday they have sixth annual onesie Wednesday. if you wear onesie. British Liz: There we KENT: Yeah, if you wear a onesie and everybody said it was too hot to wear a onesie. I was like some of my friends were like, Yeah, you should wear one. I'm like, nah, nope, nope, nope. I am hot already and I am not gonna wear a onesie. Not gonna happen. British Liz: No and I I'd just not seeing it, Kent. I'm not seeing you in a onesie. KENT: No, I you won't see me in one ever. British Liz: Ha ha. KENT: Yeah, yeah. So but yeah, the crowds and then so around midnight everybody comes to and this is a picture I took from the crowd, from the countdown, because they count down just British Liz: Now is this in KENT: like the New York ball. British Liz: is this the the the Marriott or the Hyatt? This is the Marriott. Okay. KENT: Yep. The Marriott. Yeah, the Marriott is a center point. You can see a little bit over on the left, the the blue. and then of course in the middle is the stage. They had a small clock. The big clock that they had last year was moved to the Hilton. I don't know why, but they did a countdown and this was everybody around midnight doing the ten, nine, eight and counting down and it was British Liz: Goodness. Yeah, you you're right, you can't even stay in that hotel if you want to sleep. Wow. KENT: Yep, yep, yep, yep. So my goodness. Yeah. So Dragon Con, Love ya, miss ya. Whew, been there. All right, that's good. British Liz: So it was forty this year. And KENT: Forty, yes, yes, yes, yes. There there are kinds of I wouldn't say cults, there are a lot of groups and genres and the praise to the FedEx guy British Liz: shrine. KENT: A shrine. They actually had shrines there for Dolly Parton and Tim Curry and British Liz: Really? KENT: people that had just pa passed and stuff like that. I was it was it was nice British Liz: that's kind of nice. KENT: to to see that. Wednesday night I was part of the Pink Pony Club. So you had to wear pink or I had a GWAR shirt that had the Pink Pony on it. And it was fun. yeah, they do all kinds of fun and crazy stuff at at Dragon Con. You know. And yeah, yeah. I know I'm talking a lot. British Liz: Well tell me tell me about the Carpet KENT: You ask the questions. You ask the questions. British Liz: Tell me about the carpet. KENT: my gosh. So the Marriott has always had this carpet. and the carpet looks like this. If you're looking on the YouTube channel, it's a bright color, it's blue and red British Liz: Geometric KENT: and yellow. Yeah, Cuban mectur. And so they had that carpet all through the Marriott forever. And then several years ago they decided to change the carpet. All right. And British Liz: Well it it was dated. It's kind of dated looking. Yeah. KENT: It was dated, yeah, yeah. And so they ripped up the carpet and people dumpster dived to get the carpet. British Liz: To get. KENT: there are people that I was talking with, they're like, yeah, I got a I got a carpet swag like cut out of the carpet. I know people that dumpster dive and kept some of the carpet and they have it under their desk the picture I showed is still actual carpet at the Marriott Hotel. if you go behind one British Liz: So they saved one hallway. KENT: hallway, it's right behind guest services. You can go there, take a picture with the original carpet, but it literally has become a cult, the Maria carpet. so much that yeah. British Liz: So I've seen dresses, bags, earrings, and this picture absolutely cracks me up. KENT: Yeah, yeah. This one was epic. I was there when these guys did this. they were they used the carpet to camouflage themselves and they crawled on their bellies. I remember watching these guys crawl through when the carpet was there. British Liz: So so guys, if you can't see it, it's two two guys in the carpet camo on the carpet and you can barely see them. Even their guns are camouflaged, I think. KENT: Yeah, yeah. There is all kinds of people. British Liz: That is hysterical. KENT: Yep. It's it's British Liz: I love it. KENT: funny. I mean, there's so many people that dress up with the carpet. the design of the carpet, yeah. Yeah. I mean British Liz: The the carpet, the design. I've seen bags and all kinds of stuff. Yeah. it's not an it's not especially attractive or anything, but it's got that that history and the tradition behind it. KENT: People got bags. I saw they got lanyards, they got one guy had a carpet hat. It said the carpet on it and stuff like that. I've seen Stormtrooper dress up with the the carpet, camo and stuff like that. It's just it it's become and most people say it's a cult, the carpet cult. So because so many people like the car old carpet and they were At the Marriott that they got rid of it. So yeah. And then of course the hide British Liz: And it seems like KENT: has their carpet now and it's the whole thing. yeah. British Liz: really? KENT: Yeah. So British Liz: But that one that one really took off though, the Marriott carpet. 'Cause I kept seeing I KENT: It's a the Marriott Con it's not going anywhere. British Liz: kept seeing the design and going, That's not really attractive. What what why am I seeing that design everywhere? And then I was enlightened. Yeah, yeah. KENT: Well, and you came after the carpet got taken out. So yeah, it's crazy. There and then there are other wow traditions at DragonCon. Obviously, they do the parade on Saturday, and each year it gets bigger British Liz: I must have missed that. KENT: and bigger and bigger. Starts at ten o'clock, probably goes to about eleven thirty, goes from uptown all the way down to midtown. They block off everything. and Liz, one the the scripts subscriber that we do have sent me a picture and said share this with Liz. And I was like, you know what? I'm gonna share this with Liz. These are the COS players. Do you recognize them? Here, let me show you a different one. Let me show you a different one. All right, Liz. And if you're looking at the spark. British Liz: And I I too it looks like a Spartan army. Are there three are there three hundred of them? KENT: You f you what did you say earlier when I showed you this, Liz? Now be honest. British Liz: Half naked soldiers, I think is what I said. KENT: Yeah, you said they look like a little bit of Romans. British Liz: Yes, I did. But they're not, they're Spartans, I can tell. And KENT: They're Spartans. And the subscriber said, Has Liz watched the 300 yet? And I said, No. British Liz: Liz did watch the trailer. KENT: The trailer does not count. I even have British Liz: The the trailer? KENT: a note right here. Has she watched 300 yet? I have a note. Has Liz watched 300 yet? The other one is has she watched Hellboy British Liz: Okay, I now I feel no, I haven't watched Hellboy. But KENT: See? Two movies that we mentioned previous podcast and you still haven't done it. British Liz: Escape from New York? Done. KENT: Were you well okay. And did when did you watch that? When did you watch that? British Liz: So don't give me flack last week. KENT: Mm-hmm. And British Liz: So so KENT: and Kurt Russell did a good job. It's old school movie. It's old school. Yeah, those 80 British Liz: It was old school. Very it was very eighties. KENT: movies, you're like, they're so great. And then you watch them today and you're like, ooh, sh wow, that filming's terrible. Or the monologue. Terrible. Who was it? British Liz: But it was great to see Ernest Borgnine in it. I Er Ernest Borgnine was a a surprise. It was delightful to see him in it. KENT: Mm. Yeah, yeah. So my god. British Liz: But but so so give me some credit for slightly catching up on my pop culture education. KENT: Okay, but I know my s our subscriber will say, Liz, when are you gonna watch three hundred? TIS SPARTA! British Liz: Okay. KENT: She's looking at me like I've lost all reality. Like, come on, Liz. British Liz: I'm guessing it's a quote. KENT: You have time between now and our next podcast to watch three hundred. British Liz: I do, and I'm travelling to Cleveland, so KENT: And you're traveling the c are you driving or flying? British Liz: I am flying. KENT: so you can download it onto your little tablet and then you have something to watch while you're flying. And nobody's gonna British Liz: Yeah, so that's that's KENT: care that you're watching half naked men on the plane. They'll all know it's three hundred. Yeah, yeah. Well yeah, British Liz: On the screen while I'm on the plane. Yeah. KENT: yeah. Watching the screen. my god. British Liz: That I mean but pull up the picture of the group of them again though. You know, just for KENT: you see see she she likes it so much already. British Liz: just for for research purposes. So hang on, there's a girl in there. There's a couple of girls. KENT: research purposes. Look at this. Yes, there's a couple of ladies. Those are women. British Liz: Actually, a bo whole bunch of them, wait. KENT: There's a couple, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Yeah. British Liz: Wow. KENT: And then the guys are over here and then there's a whole bunch over here. And yes, during the parade there's three times that amount. British Liz: Wow. I couldn't help thinking while I was watching the KENT: Uh-huh. British Liz: trailer that, you know, if you're going into battle with spears, KENT: Yes. British Liz: you know, half naked is not the way you want to be. I would have thought I would have thought you'd want to KENT: Mm. But they had their big shields. Well, it was an intimidation factor. It was an intimidation factor that they were muscly bound, strong strength, that it and and of course they had their big shields which covered their whole body. and everything like that. So yeah, six foot British Liz: yeah, they were the s like the six sweat shields, yeah. Hmm. KENT: they were good. Four or five foot shields, but yeah, they were big enough that they would create domes and walls and stuff like that. But it was if you look into history, it was all an intimidation because all these muscle bound guys are coming at you. You're like, holy beep, So British Liz: Okay. KENT: I I don't think I want to fight that guy. He's a little bit stronger than me, kind of thing. So British Liz: Yeah. KENT: yeah. British Liz: Okay. Hmm. KENT: Craziness. Craziness. my gosh. So many fun things this weekend. we've already talked about the carpet. We've talked about the badge beards, ribbon beards, I mean, the the portal fault and crashing I mean, there's always a story or something funny that happens at Dragon Con. I remember one year the Hilton, one of the floor we were just talking about this at Dragon Con. one year at the Hilton, one of the fire alarms went off and one of the floors flooded. water like a good inch deep. And then the next year, somebody came back in cosplay as the Hilton swimming team. I mean creativity. British Liz: That is great. KENT: I love the creativity of the people. There is there's so many funny things. That happened at Dragon Con and they'll make it a cosplay or they'll make it something funny, like yeah. British Liz: Yes. Well and and that brings us to we have spoken of this before that we both feel like Dragon Con is like the the capital city of cosplay cons and I I pulled up KENT: one hundred percent. One hundred percent. I some of the best cosplays come from Dragon Con. British Liz: Well I had I went in twenty twenty four. Hang on, let's KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: see if I can get up here. And KENT: What happened? British Liz: No, I can't I can't get to my picture. well. KENT: You can too. You just click on the media button and it shows everything. Liz is learning how to work the buttons, you know, in the podcast. Usually she leaves British Liz: Yeah, su KENT: it up to me, but I'm allowing her to touch the buttons and Hey, I let you go into the email and you deleted all the emails. So we call L British Liz: I did. That was that was really special. Okay, I can't KENT: Liz, you are a a computer buffalo. British Liz: Buffalo. KENT: Yes, they're slow and drag along. British Liz: Actually, I can't scroll up, it won't let me. KENT: my goodness, Liz, really? Use your mouse. British Liz: No, I can't figure out. KENT: Alright, what do you want me to show something? British Liz: I was want to go to the first one because the very first one. There we go. Because I had KENT: Your very first one. British Liz: referred to this costume as one of my KENT: You didn't. British Liz: all-time most favorite original costumes. The toilet paper holder with the doll in the middle, like your granny used to have. And KENT: Really? The toilet paper holder? The cover? The doll in the middle? yeah. British Liz: I just I was so impressed by that. the originality, the fact that somebody crocheted that thing. I just loved it. And I I it really does. that KENT: That takes a lot of time. huh. British Liz: was very weird, not really on any kind of fandom topic, but I was just so impressed by the effort and the just the humor of it. KENT: You are the one that walks around and takes pictures of the cosplay. I am not because I've seen so much. that's British Liz: said KENT: a good custom. All right. You know, I go ahead. I did take a couple this year, British Liz: What you did you did take a couple though this year. Mm-hmm. KENT: but not a lot because usually on Sunday night they do the masquerade ball. So all the people that have been sewing for 365 days out of the year. display and do the competition and and stuff. There was some great this year was a little bit shorter. it was different because Eddie and everybody was not there hosting Andy. so it was different. It was a different masquerade. Anson and another lady did it. so to some people it felt shorter. But we also said a lot of the people doing the masquerade didn't take as much time, showing off their costume or well, it it's it's a song and dance kind of routine and they kept it shorter. So a a lot of us like that because it's like I don't need to see you dancing around on stage for five minutes doing you know, lip syncing to a song. I just need to see what your costume is, how much work you put into it, and then I'm done. Okay, good. So a lot of them kept it short, which was nice. Mostly the people who go to the masquerade ball to watch Duck Dodgers, but that's its own entity on itself. but there was this owl one. This lady created this owl costume, the owl moved and the wings went out and expanded. She didn't even get win win anything and we're like, what is going on with the judges? Judges, if you're listening, you need to contact us and so you can be on the podcast so we can find out your critiquing how you critique, how you judge. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: I wanna know because the winner, who no, I don't I don't think the winner should have been the winner, but that's my personal opinion. Everybody else can think the same. I know Our subscriber probably agrees with me. The the the top winner, not so much. Not so much. I I British Liz: Interesting. KENT: yeah. A lot of people that actually build costumes sewing and did all this, they're like, they're no, no, the winner shouldn't have been the winner. So, but British Liz: Interesting. KENT: that again, that's my personal opinion and several others. So if you're a if you're a judge. yeah. British Liz: I once I once judged a cosplay. I once judged one. KENT: How'd that go? British Liz: Well it was it was interesting because there's you know, there's there's the different factors. There's the workmanship, clearly the effort that went into it, imagination, KENT: Mm-hmm. Yes. Yes. British Liz: humor, accuracy, you know, there's all kinds of stuff in there. KENT: Yep. huh. Yeah. British Liz: but I I went to one and I can't remember if it was Dragon Corn or if it was a different one. But do you remember in the Olympics when they had the breakdancing? KENT: I just saw they made a video on Netflix about her. Last night I was scrolling through Netflix. There's a video on Netflix of her explaining why she did what she did. I was like, no way. I I don't want to watch it, but I do want to watch it because it's like, my. So go ahead. That was funny that you just brought that up. British Liz: But so so yes, the Australian breakdancer, KENT: Yes. Cosby. Yeah. British Liz: cosplay. They actually had a meetup and there were a hundred people dressed as her. And it would just happen. So in twenty twenty four. So I wan I wonder if that actually KENT: Justice her. Yes. Yes, yes. That's how fast people pick up monster. British Liz: I wonder if that was actually Dragon Con. Maybe it was. KENT: Yeah. that's how fast people pick up on stuff and go, I'm gonna dress like that or do that cosplay, just because it's funny, it's something people be like, I wanna take a picture with the break dancer that didn't really break dance. So British Liz: Yes, and did little kangaroo moves. Yeah. KENT: man. I am not joking. I was literally going through Netflix last night. and it was like, British Liz: I have to I I am going to watch it because KENT: you might like this. And I was like, Are you kidding me? They actually interviewed her and asked, and I was like, my god. And then you know, it's like, Do I watch it? Is it worth my time? And then you're like, All right, I'll just add it on my list. And when I'm bored or when I'm flying, I'll watch that twenty it's like only twenty eight minutes, but was They they did a video on Netflix about it. British Liz: I think I might have to watch it. Unless it's too painful. KENT: my goodness. British Liz: I don't know. 'Cause it was excruciating to watch. KENT: So for our subscriber, if you watched it, comment in our social media that you watched it or didn't or would you watch it? Do you think it's worth watching? my goodness. British Liz: D does anybody actually care? After after these well, it's been two years. Two years. KENT: Yes, yes, yes, yes. my goodness. So all right, anyway. Moving on. my goodness So you had another you had another picture here of some comedy. British Liz: Thought that was so funny. I love mashups. I'm not sure. It's it's a pair of storm troopers, KENT: You wanna subscribe this one to the viewers that aren't on YouTube? huh. British Liz: but they are dressed in is that park ranger uniforms? And one KENT: Yep, Park Ranger uniforms. British Liz: of them's holding a huge thing of cotton candy. And is the other one? KENT: Uhhuh. And the other one has bacon st has syrup. Yeah. British Liz: maple syrup. Okay. Okay, then I'm not quite sure what it the reference is then, but I I thought it was KENT: Canadian Canadian bounties. Stormtroopers. They got mustaches. Yeah, yeah, yeah. British Liz: he's wearing a mustache? KENT: He's got a mustache on the Stormtrooper. You can see it right there. Clear there. Alright, what British Liz: I thought that w okay. Hmm. KENT: is this one? British Liz: This is a rodent of unusual size from Princess Bride. And I just thought that was cute KENT: gotcha. Princess Bride. British Liz: because he had the the wanted poster. KENT: There you go. All right. And then you had this one right here. British Liz: Yeah, he's a naughty and nice santer. KENT: That's an alright, Santa. I've s well I that that takes British Liz: Well he's got he's even got the tattoos, naughty and nice. KENT: some dedication. He I mean, one, the beard, two, the tattoos. He's the he's a diehard Santa person, you know, but I've seen British Liz: Yeah, yeah. I KENT: some cosplayers that did Kurt Russell's Santa Claus. I've seen some yes, yeah, yeah. I've seen some elegant British Liz: now that was lush. That's but him I like the fact that he was you know he's all tattered up. KENT: Wow, this had to be early because look at the background. There's hardly anybody there. Wow. British Liz: Yeah, now is that the Hilton carpet? KENT: No, that is the Marriott's new carpet. British Liz: that's worse than the other one. Yes. KENT: Thank you. That's what that's what they all said. See? The carpet makes the statement. All right. What is and then you put this one of Bumblebee? Bumblebee. Hmm. So you wanted to see British Liz: This it's a transformer, yeah, from the back. He was walking away, but I love the wheels. I mean just a KENT: his aluminum assets. my gosh. British Liz: I just thought the detail on that was amazing. I mean the work that went into it, just incredible. KENT: Yes. Yeah. All right. And let me see. I got another one here that you took. I'm trying to click on all these. Okay, what is this? British Liz: Now that was he it was a full size guy, so I'm s guessing it's the KENT: Well, better than a short a half size guy. British Liz: Well, it's so I think it's Robin Hood from the Disney Robin Hood. But he looks so KENT: yes. Robin. British Liz: so fox like, you know, he's not cartoony. He KENT: Foxy. What would the fox do? Did British Liz: But but it's like a d how do you describe KENT: my god. British Liz: it? A a tall guy with archery stuff, sword, but he has a f but he has a yes, you should see on the YouTube channel. KENT: You have to go on the YouTube channel to see this stuff. Yeah. It's a Fox dressed in it's Robin Hood, the animated Disney one, Robin Hood but just really British Liz: But but he looks like a fox that means business. mean but he was very KENT: That's right. British Liz: tall. mean not not you know, like eight foot, but KENT: Yeah, yeah. British Liz: he was quite imposing and KENT: Yeah. See I would see this cost and be like, all right. I would just pass. I wouldn't take see, you take pictures British Liz: See, I KENT: I wouldn't take and vice versa. See, like here is the picture I took British Liz: Think because KENT: of this year, and I'm like, now that's hilarious. British Liz: That is just KENT: It's it Yeah. She's British Liz: Is she a nail? She's a finger. KENT: the fingernail. She's the finger. The finger. See? Fingernail. Yeah. It's great. British Liz: So her head is actually a finger, presumably KENT: There's a thing. Yes. British Liz: the middle finger, 'cause her arm KENT: Well it could be the middle finger. It could be her hands are fingers and yeah. So this this caught my British Liz: With nails, with bright red nails. I mean KENT: attention. If you catch my attention, I'll take the picture of it. So now British Liz: How did she see that? KENT: well in the finger where it bends, you know, that little yeah joint. That's where British Liz: The in the joint? Yeah. Huh. KENT: she can see. So yeah, there were some really good ones. I again I'm just so overwhelmed that I don't Wanna sit there and just take pictures of things. Take pictures. Now right, British Liz: Well I and I d I haven't. That they have to be these days they have to be something really special. KENT: right. And I I like to take true photography. like I took this one. And what did you say this was? And d and I had to correct you, but what did you think this was? British Liz: yeah. I I thought it was is it Uncle Fester from the Adams family? KENT: No, it's not from Cold Fester. It's from Mad Max. British Liz: Which I then confessed I have not seen. I saw the El Gibson ones, I didn't see the new one. KENT: Yes. Yes. so okay, Liz. We are gonna write this down. We got three hundred. We got Hellboy. Now you need to watch the new Mad Max with Charlie's Theron in it. Yep, we are it we are he he's in this, but look how British Liz: And this guy. But I mean, but he he's he's got the Uncle Festa kind of eyes. KENT: No, he doesn't. Uncle Fester doesn't have that he has the eyes, but not the rest of the stuff. British Liz: Yeah, that's why I was wondering what Uncle Fester was doing not wearing anything, KENT: You're killing me, Liz. This whole podcast is just educating Liz on movies and British Liz: Yes, it's true, it's true. KENT: But see, I like to take creative photography pictures of the cosplay. So when I see something and it catches my eyes, that's when I'll take it. yeah. But Dragon Con, my gosh. And then panels, my gosh, panel floor, British Liz: See, up when I went, I was doing line control. So I KENT: Mm, mm. British Liz: didn't go to any of the panels. What kind of stuff did they have? KENT: my gosh. there's Battlestar Galactica, The Boys, my gosh, Upr Lower Deck panels, Firefly, Resident Alien. what's the the book that just came out that's so popular? Dungeon Carl. there's a book that just came out. Dungeon Carl something, blah blah blah. I can't think of it. British Liz: Mm. KENT: a lot of my friends read it. The author was there. He did a whole panel. The the voice actors of the audiobook were there. So I mean, there are so many panels. There's Lord of the Rings panels. There's British Liz: who was Sav from Lord of the Rings? KENT: Well, no, I'm just saying there are panels. There's always panels going on. Like you need like British Liz: no, not necessarily the actors. Okay. KENT: You could create a spreadsheet of all the panels that you want to go to. And then you have to pick certain ones that you go to because there's so many going on. And then you got the Hutch bunnies. That's another cult that got started. all the people dressing up as the Playboy bunnies. but then you spice it up and make them different. You I know you saw the bunnies walking around when you were there, Liz. You I think Liz needs to go back to Dragon Con because I think it was just such a blur to her that she didn't pay attention to stuff. So yeah. There's so British Liz: Possibly, quite possibly. KENT: many things. There's parties, there's concerts that are going on, different bands, concerts, there's the the aquarium that does a party at the aquarium there. again, there's just I I think we need to bring somebody that is a a Dragon Con aficionado onto this because British Liz: I thought that was you. KENT: I'm I'm just barely touching the surface of Dragon Con. Literally, like just touching the surface. British Liz: Well and this would be one where, you know, w our one of our standing pieces of advice would be do your research, make your plan, know what know what d and no know KENT: yeah, download the app. You wanna download the Dragon Con app to British Liz: where you wanna be and what you wanna see, because if you just wing it, you're gonna miss so much great stuff. KENT: Yeah, if you wing Dragon Con, then yeah. I wing it and I do okay. and it's just I'm usually working it and well British Liz: But you're usually working it. So so you're so you're limited in your what you could manage. KENT: I asked some friends that were there, how many panels have you been to? And they're I've done eight, some did ten, and they're like, How many did you do? I did three. my phone's going off. Sorry about that. I did three because my talent had to do the panels. So I was at three panels. I did three panels. Like yay. British Liz: So you said it was Jack? KENT: Yeah, Jack. British Liz: Check. KENT: You don't know who Jack is? You don't know Jack? British Liz: Haha Frequently I do not. KENT: you you don't know Jack. Actually, that's a f that's a game too. Yeah. British Liz: I know, I've I've played that. That was funny. KENT: Yeah. So no, I had Jack Quaid. You're looking at me confused. all right. Does the last name sound familiar? Quaid? Quaid, British Liz: Quaid? Yes. KENT: yes. British Liz: As in Dennis and Randy. Okay. KENT: huh. Which is Dennis's son? Or may Ryan's son? Yeah. British Liz: Okay. And he's Okay. So he he's got his own career going. That's wonderful. KENT: he's had his career going. Yes. but yeah, he was real he's been very popular. He was in Scream. He really launched with the boys because he worked side by side with Carl and Labs and stuff like that. And then of course now British Liz: Yeah. KENT: the lower deck of Star Trek, the animated live action So but he's also got British Liz: Okay. All right, so with all the popularity of the boys, then he has been busy, I'm sure. KENT: Yeah, and he's got Novakane and he's got other things that he's done. So he's got quite a genre and he's got a couple movies coming out this year as well. So he was very busy. Let's just say that the lines never stop. British Liz: Which means you were busy and the only panels you went to were his panels, okay. KENT: Yep, yep, yep, yep. That was one of the only panels I got to go to. But it was fun. I got to do three panels. So yay, I did panels at Dragon Cont. And if you know British Liz: That's wonderful. KENT: me, that's more three three more than I would have ever done. British Liz: Yes, yes. KENT: But yeah, there I mean there's panels, there's parties, there's after parties, there's before parties. I I learned that they they do a fun run. On Frida yeah, on Friday morning they do a run, and you and you get to you everybody wins like this wooden medallion I so I would never do it, but I know people that do, and they went and ran and up and down the hill and around Centennial Park, and there's a whole path that they have to do, and you get a wooden medallion at the end So yeah, again, there is so much going on that you need British Liz: my goodness. KENT: to a week before Dragon Con, you download the app and then you just start looking at the schedule and you just pick all your stuff, put it in a spreadsheet, the best you can, and prioritize what's more important. British Liz: Then prioritize. Right. KENT: and then of course, you know, there's the Walk of Fame where all the celebrities and talent are literally they You walk in and you just go in one direction and walk around in circles till you see the people that you wanna get autographs with and British Liz: Yes, and hopefully you can cut across traffic in order to reach someone. Or else you have to go around again. KENT: Yes. Yes. It's scary. It can you can get trampled. you know, and then of course I love the volunteers. There's always those one or two that are like, Keep moving, keep moving, this way, this way, no standing still. And it drives people nuts, but it it it works. I love the volunteers, but British Liz: Well, y I mean and and you have to keep traffic moving. mean we've talked about KENT: Stop it. British Liz: we've we've I mean we've talked about traffic, you know, you suddenly stop and want to take a picture of a cosplay and then there's a pile up of twenty people behind you. KENT: Yeah, you don't take pictures of cosplays in the Walk of Fame. You do that out in the hallway and in the atrium It's yeah. and then there's always the photos. You know, got the photo opportunities right by the Walk of Fame in your cosplay. You can go across the Hyatt. There's a little park where a lot of famous pictures have been done. You can get pictures there. And then if you go to the Hilton, they have the steps where They will do group pictures the three hundred or last year Miss British Liz: Right. KENT: Roper, you know, all the people dressed in the same thing or or the bunnies or you know, whatever it is. Yeah, the breakdances or the British Liz: Or the the breakdancers. I think that must have been that must have been it. That must have been Are they outside those steps? I think that's I think it must have been two years ago at Dragon Con then. Yeah. KENT: Yes, the steps are outside. on the Hilton. Yeah, Hilton. But yeah, there'll be there's groups that are like everybody dress up as this, and then we're gonna take a picture at the Hilton and and there'll be two, three, four hundred people dressed up as that character. The bunnies or yep. British Liz: Yeah. And and if they've got, you know, Star Wars or Firefly or something, yeah. KENT: That is that is a thing. I mean, holy cow. Talk about you don't sleep at Dragon Con. At all. If you do, bless you. British Liz: Well, maybe I should go just to go one year. KENT: Think you should go just to go, Liz. It's crazy. It's fun. you know, and a lot of time, you know, it's people have been doing it for so long. It's you get to see old friends, you make new friends, new traditions. There's old traditions. it's crazy. You know, and just working the again, we always tell our subscriber or our followers to know download the app know your plan of action and stuff that you know again working with the talent it's cash only yes it is he doesn't take tap nope doesn't take anything else nope it's cash only well why cash well first of all in that arena or that area the internet was not good at all British Liz: And you can never guarantee it's gonna be any good. There's never KENT: So if you did attempt. Right. British Liz: a guarantee. KENT: Never a guarantee. so yeah, there are a lot of people who are like, there's an ATM right outside it right at the beginning of the hallway, you know. So w I was talking with a couple of people and they're like, Yeah, it's crazy. The ATMPs are like five, six dollars. And I'm like, you know, you go get four autographs, that's a free lunch right there. but yeah, cash is king. I always tell people that. Coming up to us. you know, you're asking, know what you want. The combo, the selfie, the autograph. a lot of people were asking, what's a quote? Or could they just buy the quote? That's one I haven't hit on yet, because I work with some people and not all of them do that, but some people do charge for the quote. And it's just because if you've got to write a whole paragraph out, that takes British Liz: yeah. KENT: time. memorization, And it just takes a little bit, and again, this is their business. When they're not acting, they're not making money. The residuals are long gone. Thanks, Netflix. you could say what it is. But so, you know, and and there was a controversial just a week ago From somebody on CelebWorks because they were charging for a quote. And the guy British Liz: Yes, KENT: that did the video did it disservice. He he was just trying to get media clicks A lot of people bashed into him, which they should have, because the the celebrity, it's her business. She's doing what she is supposed to. And the prices are not set by them. It's set by the Comic Con and the agents So that is there for a purpose. if you're trying to wheel and deal and trying to try to get a free quote and you don't want to pay the twenty bucks, okay, don't get the quote then. if you want the quote and it on the autograph and pay the money. But don't try to finagle and say, well, you know, I don't have any money And then then again, I just British Liz: And and he was he was unkind. He was unkind KENT: He was very unkind. He was very unkind. British Liz: and accused her of being rude and it's I did not see that. I didn't KENT: Yep. She was doing her job. I actually watched a video guy a guy like showed him doing it multiple times to multiple actresses. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: And because she didn't give in, he bashed on her, which British Liz: Yeah. KENT: is wrong. British Liz: He also filmed without permission. KENT: Which is e which again is consent. You don't touch a cosplayer without consent. You don't touch talent without consent. You don't videotape without consent. We're getting some hot items. Yeah, those Google Glasses, meta British Liz: But it's metaglasses. Meta glasses, yeah. KENT: glasses. If you bring them, you might as well just put in your pocket because there's British Liz: Because if if somebody spots you wearing them, they're probably gonna ask you to remove them or just be respectful. Do not KENT: Yep. Put away. Put away. Yep. British Liz: photograph or video without permission. KENT: Yeah. So, some people see the quote and they're like, can I just get the quote? And it's like, No, that is an add-on to the autograph. So I'm telling the newbies, if you see that you have to pay for a quote, it's usually a famous quote they they said in a movie or in the TV show Like on Princess's Bride. as you wish. That's a quote, as you wish, carrier would write it. British Liz: can be only one. Yeah. KENT: There can only be one. so you you get that quote, you might have to pay. Sometimes the talent, the autograph comes with a quote, sometimes it doesn't. It just depends on the talent and their agent and what the Comic Con is asking for. So don't go, I just want the quote. That's an add-on to the autograph. You gotta get the autograph first, then you can get the quote if you want that print to say something special. I'm not a quote person. I just you know, I just get the autograph. I'm I'm happy with just the autograph and I'm good with that, Sometimes the telling is nice and they'll let's put this one I can't say the stuff that Jack put on posters because it was more boys rela the boys related, and it was not British Liz: Which means it wasn't G. KENT: P it wasn't even PG, it was just straight R. Yeah. I was Whoa, you're gonna put that on these and people are Yeah, put that on there. I'm like, Whoa, okay. There was a doctor that walked in and she's Yeah, this is from my doctor's office. And he's like, Okay, so we'll just put this generic down. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: I'm like, what? You don't want to do the X the R rated version? He goes, Well, it's gonna be hanging in her office. British Liz: Ha KENT: I mean British Liz: That's funny. KENT: the the talent knows how to get a laugh out of you, but it it's they do their best, so yeah. It's crazy, but it's fun. I know this is the sh Kent show right now 'cause I feel like I'm just talking everything Dragon, but I was the one there, so I British Liz: Yes. And my two year old experience, well, a lot KENT: my goodness. British Liz: of the stuff was the same because it's obviously very tradition based. KENT: Okay, well let's just do this. for our subscriber, you know who you are. If you have done more British Liz: You know. KENT: than five Dragon Cons and you are big aficionado, know the cult, the carpet cult, the panels, the parties, you're the spreadsheet person. reach out to us, let us know so we can have you on the show. Yes, because British Liz: That would be fun. Somebody somebody who has actually enjoyed it to the max and knows exactly KENT: Actually, you know who I would bring I would I will bring the guest experien I should bring the guest experience manager from the Hyatt. Sh her whole job British Liz: Okay. KENT: is to make sure guests have a good experience. But she is the one that started the ribbon drop at the Hyatt. British Liz: Re that would be awesome. KENT: Yeah, yeah, yeah. people go find her. She gives out ribbons and things like that. we could bring her on, we could I I would say let's bring on two or three people on one podcast and then let them all talk. British Liz: How fun would that be? KENT: That would be crazy. Yeah, yeah. See, look at the ideas we come up with. But Liz 300. Mad Max, Hellboy. British Liz: Okay. KENT: my goodness. and there was other Comic Cons besides Dragon Con going on this weekend. Yeah, there was one in Tampa. British Liz: Tampa Bay Comic Hong. Yes. KENT: Have a big Comic Con going on. There was a couple others going on in where Dallas. San Antonio. Yeah, it's crazy. British Liz: Wow. KENT: Yeah. Yeah. British Liz: So there are many to be enjoyed. KENT: There is. I was just writing see I got all these notes that people asked me this weekend. Liz, did she look up who Mean Joe Green was? British Liz: No she didn't. KENT: Okay. British Liz: Okay, I'm gonna look up now. Okay. KENT: All right. or representation of cons with coffee because Liz does not drink coffee. British Liz: Okay, former American football player. There we go. KENT: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever. British Liz: Okay, why am I looking him up? KENT: Because I have the helmet and we talked about it in the British Liz: yeah yeah yeah yeah. KENT: podcast that one time. You're like, Steelers. Anyways, we are at our time. I British Liz: my goodness, you talked so much, Kent. KENT: I know, I'm full of hot air.
