- 0:28SPEAKER_15: Welcome to the O'Brien.
- 0:36SPEAKER_15: I'm O'Brien.
- 0:37SPEAKER_15: I'm Doug.
- 0:39SPEAKER_15: Episode 244.
- 0:41SPEAKER_15: It is a Tuesday.
- 0:43SPEAKER_15: We are recording this.
- 0:44SPEAKER_15: The day after Memorial Day.
- 0:45SPEAKER_15: Yes.
- 0:47SPEAKER_15: And lots of stuff to talk about.
- 0:50SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 0:51SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 0:53SPEAKER_15: Not the least of which is uh let's see.
- 0:57SPEAKER_15: Let's start with our gigs.
- 0:58SPEAKER_15: Uh so we had well no, let's go back a little a little further.
- 1:02SPEAKER_15: I had my spring concert on Thursday.
- 1:05SPEAKER_19: Right.
- 1:07SPEAKER_15: And so I had my middle school chorus uh do three songs, I think it was.
- 1:12SPEAKER_15: And then my high school chorus did five.
- 1:16SPEAKER_15: And uh it went swimmingly.
- 1:18SPEAKER_15: Good.
- 1:18SPEAKER_15: It was fantastic.
- 1:19SPEAKER_15: Good.
- 1:19SPEAKER_15: Uh they all sounded great.
- 1:22SPEAKER_15: Um my middle school uh, you know, I worked with the alto section on their parts, because their parts are obviously it's two part.
- 1:30SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 1:31SPEAKER_15: Obviously different than the Sopranos.
- 1:33SPEAKER_15: Worked with them uh for months.
- 1:36SPEAKER_15: Uh uh only to get to the spring concert, and they sang everything the Sopranos sang.
- 1:42SPEAKER_15: Uh so it was unison.
- 1:43SPEAKER_15: It was a unison.
- 1:44SPEAKER_15: But they were loud and they were great.
- 1:46SPEAKER_15: And they enjoyed themselves.
- 1:47SPEAKER_11: You know, was it in tune?
- 1:49SPEAKER_15: Then you're it's a winner.
- 1:50SPEAKER_15: Exactly.
- 1:50SPEAKER_15: I'm not I'm not complaining.
- 1:52SPEAKER_15: I just think it's it's indicative of, you know.
- 1:55SPEAKER_11: Well, it's it's like a it's like a you know, you practice you know, like for us.
- 1:58SPEAKER_11: I mean, we we you know, we practice something about something, and then we go to do it.
- 2:02SPEAKER_11: We're like no doubt.
- 2:04SPEAKER_15: I can I can well we'll give you an example.
- 2:07SPEAKER_15: Uh so so I was wise.
- 2:10SPEAKER_15: My my spring concert was on Thursday night the 22nd.
- 2:14SPEAKER_15: I took Friday the 23rd off.
- 2:16SPEAKER_15: I just took a personal day because we get so many personal days, and if you don't use them, you don't you lose you lose them.
- 2:21SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 2:22SPEAKER_15: So I took a personal day uh the day after the concert just to kind of rest up.
- 2:26SPEAKER_15: Well, that's until we got booked, sort of, um, at our friend Sarah's school uh for Skinny Elvis.
- 2:34SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 2:35SPEAKER_15: So I spent Friday morning relearning these Skinny Elvis songs so that we could do our show, and that's a perfect example.
- 2:44SPEAKER_15: I learned the solos, learn the songs, and then we perform them and I screw them up.
- 2:51SPEAKER_15: Not completely, not completely, but you get it to a point, like Friday morning.
- 2:57SPEAKER_15: I got it to a point where yeah, I got this.
- 2:58SPEAKER_15: This is cool.
- 3:00SPEAKER_15: But then you get there and you're in the moment, and it's like, how did that go?
- 3:05SPEAKER_15: How did that go again?
- 3:06SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it just leaves your brain.
- 3:07SPEAKER_15: It just completely leaves your brain.
- 3:09SPEAKER_15: And and you know, we we are we've been doing it long enough to kind of fake our way through it and and you know and make it work.
- 3:17SPEAKER_15: Um so it did work.
- 3:19SPEAKER_15: Maybe you just make noises.
- 3:20SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 3:22SPEAKER_11: Not that I've done that.
- 3:27SPEAKER_15: We've already talked about that on the podcast, right?
- 3:29SPEAKER_15: Yes, we have.
- 3:29SPEAKER_11: Yes, we have.
- 3:30SPEAKER_11: But I did it again Friday.
- 3:31SPEAKER_11: You did?
- 3:32SPEAKER_11: Just a little bit.
- 3:33SPEAKER_11: Um what song?
- 3:34SPEAKER_11: Uh the first song.
- 3:35SPEAKER_11: We were doing Machine Head and Oh I I got lost.
- 3:39SPEAKER_11: I was like, oh, the chorus is next.
- 3:41SPEAKER_11: And I started going to the chorus, I was like, uh-oh.
- 3:42SPEAKER_11: The chorus is next.
- 3:43SPEAKER_11: They're not playing the chorus.
- 3:44SPEAKER_11: I better go back to something.
- 3:46SPEAKER_11: And then I started just like, I'm really good at that.
- 3:53SPEAKER_15: So what we were doing was this is like an end-of-year fun stuff for a uh K through eight school.
- 4:00SPEAKER_15: And actually, the high school is there too.
- 4:02SPEAKER_15: The high school came over.
- 4:03SPEAKER_11: Well, some of them.
- 4:04SPEAKER_11: I mean, I don't think all of them are there.
- 4:05SPEAKER_15: I hope that wasn't the whole high school.
- 4:07SPEAKER_11: I was about to say, man, because that they're they got way too much room in that school.
- 4:10SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 4:11SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 4:11SPEAKER_15: So they came over and you know, we played we played uh 45 minutes, I think.
- 4:16SPEAKER_15: And they just ran around the gym and had a blah had a ball.
- 4:20SPEAKER_15: Oh, yeah.
- 4:21SPEAKER_15: And uh we did screw up Interstate Love Song quite well.
- 4:27SPEAKER_15: Did we?
- 4:27SPEAKER_15: Oh yes.
- 4:28SPEAKER_15: Because we didn't have any monitors, so we couldn't hear ourselves.
- 4:32SPEAKER_15: All the the speakers were going out and we couldn't they weren't coming back to us.
- 4:36SPEAKER_15: So I messed up, and where it was supposed to go to the chorus, I went to a verse.
- 4:47SPEAKER_15: Oh and Joel followed me.
- 4:49SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 4:50SPEAKER_15: Everybody else followed you.
- 4:51SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 4:52SPEAKER_15: Um, I don't know that a lot of people noticed.
- 4:54SPEAKER_15: Of course, certainly the kids didn't notice because they don't know the song.
- 4:56SPEAKER_15: They don't know the song.
- 4:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:58SPEAKER_15: But there were some grown-ups that I probably noticed.
- 5:01SPEAKER_15: But that's okay.
- 5:02SPEAKER_15: We recovered and and we got back to it, and it was good.
- 5:06SPEAKER_15: Uh, but yeah, what a blast just playing.
- 5:08SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it was fun.
- 5:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it was fun.
- 5:10SPEAKER_11: And the Sarah student came up and played.
- 5:12SPEAKER_11: Played Shine, collected.
- 5:13SPEAKER_15: Played Shine with us and killed it.
- 5:15SPEAKER_15: Yeah, he was great.
- 5:15SPEAKER_15: Yep, yeah, it was great.
- 5:17SPEAKER_15: Um, and then we had a gig Saturday night, you and I.
- 5:21SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 5:22SPEAKER_15: Uh at Ferris Barbecue, which was great.
- 5:24SPEAKER_15: Uh we had a great uh kind of an interactive audience.
- 5:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 5:28SPEAKER_15: And loud.
- 5:30SPEAKER_11: For the first couple hours.
- 5:30SPEAKER_15: Yeah, for the first couple hours, and then they just they were done eating and everybody left.
- 5:35SPEAKER_11: Everybody left.
- 5:35SPEAKER_11: That was that was work.
- 5:37SPEAKER_11: It was, man.
- 5:38SPEAKER_11: After a while, I was just like looking, I was just like, we finish a song and I'd be like, oh man, this like it's like that was I thought that would took like ten minutes.
- 5:47SPEAKER_11: It's only been two.
- 5:49SPEAKER_15: Oh boy.
- 5:50SPEAKER_15: When the when the when there's a crowd there, it's a lot different.
- 5:53SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you don't notice the time because you're having a good time.
- 5:56SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 5:56SPEAKER_11: But when it's you know mostly empty and you're only playing to a few tables, it's like, hmm, no, this is it's a struggle.
- 6:03SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 6:04SPEAKER_15: So you know that that's not necessarily on us.
- 6:08SPEAKER_15: That's just nature of the business.
- 6:10SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I think Ferris, you know, they close at a certain time and and I think when people are done with their meal, they just leave.
- 6:16SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 6:17SPEAKER_15: Yeah, they're not sticking around.
- 6:18SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 6:18SPEAKER_15: So so yeah, but it was good.
- 6:21SPEAKER_15: We had and she treats us very well.
- 6:22SPEAKER_15: Yes.
- 6:23SPEAKER_15: So that was very nice.
- 6:23SPEAKER_11: And yeah, takes good care of us.
- 6:25SPEAKER_11: And we had her we had the what was her name?
- 6:28SPEAKER_11: The little girl with a birthday card.
- 6:30SPEAKER_15: Oh, uh, oh, uh uh Zeta.
- 6:31SPEAKER_15: Zeta.
- 6:32SPEAKER_15: Zeta.
- 6:33SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 6:33SPEAKER_15: It's her birthday, and she was having a ball.
- 6:35SPEAKER_15: She danced she was our dancer for the for the night.
- 6:37SPEAKER_15: That was great.
- 6:38SPEAKER_11: That's how we made a majority of our tips.
- 6:40SPEAKER_11: It's true.
- 6:40SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:41SPEAKER_15: I think she made some tips too.
- 6:43SPEAKER_11: I think she did too.
- 6:43SPEAKER_11: I was like, man, that's a good deal.
- 6:45SPEAKER_15: Full disclosure, she's seven.
- 6:47SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 6:48SPEAKER_15: And she it was her birthday, and so she came up and and danced while we were playing, and and uh people were encouraged to tip us for that, and I think someone actually gave her some for her birthday, yeah.
- 7:00SPEAKER_15: Which is really cool.
- 7:01SPEAKER_15: That wasn't cool.
- 7:02SPEAKER_15: Um and then let's see.
- 7:05SPEAKER_15: So today was my first and second grade concert.
- 7:11SPEAKER_15: So actually, so yeah, so all morning uh we had the risers, and you know.
- 7:17SPEAKER_11: Were you outside again?
- 7:18SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 7:20SPEAKER_15: And and I'm not complaining because it's beautiful, it was beautiful today.
- 7:23SPEAKER_15: Yeah, today it was gorgeous.
- 7:24SPEAKER_15: Um and normally we would have it in a hot, stinky, sweaty gym.
- 7:28SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 7:29SPEAKER_15: And so the principal that I work for, he's been there a few years now.
- 7:34SPEAKER_15: Um he likes to have it outside, which, you know, is is great.
- 7:41SPEAKER_15: And the the parents and the families bring their lawn chairs and they s they set up on the playground and watch.
- 7:47SPEAKER_15: So it's it's pretty cool.
- 7:49SPEAKER_15: Uh but so they had the risers out there, and in the morning, so tomorrow, I have the pre-K and kindergarten concert.
- 7:56SPEAKER_15: So this morning we practiced getting them on the risers and then singing their songs and then getting them off the risers.
- 8:03SPEAKER_15: And then we did the same thing for the first grade, and then the same thing for the second grade, and then the first and second grade had their concert at one o'clock this afternoon.
- 8:11SPEAKER_15: And it the the playground was there was no empty spaces on the playground.
- 8:17SPEAKER_15: It was packed with people, which was great.
- 8:19SPEAKER_15: Um, and the kids did great, you know.
- 8:22SPEAKER_15: Uh it was it was what it was, um, and they had a good time, and that's all that matters.
- 8:26SPEAKER_15: And uh so, but I was out there in the blistering heat, not blistering, it was only 75, but it was hot.
- 8:35SPEAKER_11: Yeah, well that's it's only May.
- 8:37SPEAKER_15: Right, yeah, exactly.
- 8:38SPEAKER_15: We just got sun.
- 8:39SPEAKER_15: And I did put sunscreen on, but obviously you can see it.
- 8:42SPEAKER_11: Well, it's not it's I mean, it's red, but it's not like beet red, it's not like burnt red.
- 8:46SPEAKER_15: You can see I got some color.
- 8:48SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 8:49SPEAKER_15: Yeah, so uh you you've developed a nice base.
- 8:52SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 8:52SPEAKER_15: Let's yeah, well, yeah.
- 8:54SPEAKER_11: By the end of you know, by the time you go back to school in August, you're gonna be, you know, a nice golden brown.
- 9:00SPEAKER_15: Well, you would hope, but I don't know, we'll see.
- 9:02SPEAKER_11: We'll see.
- 9:03SPEAKER_11: I'm just saying, man.
- 9:05SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_15: Um so but that went well, and the the the the best part is it's behind me.
- 9:10SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 9:10SPEAKER_15: It's done.
- 9:12SPEAKER_15: Uh tomorrow after the pre-K and kindergarten uh concert, uh it will all the concerts will be behind me, so I will be on top of the world.
- 9:20SPEAKER_15: Um after tomorrow.
- 9:21SPEAKER_15: After tomorrow.
- 9:22SPEAKER_15: Um I went to uh so so the concert was going kind of long, actually.
- 9:28SPEAKER_15: And because I after I'm done at the the elementary school, I have to book it over to the high school to do my seventh period chorus.
- 9:36SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 9:37SPEAKER_15: And I literally drove in on two wheels and made it like three minutes before the bell rang and the chorus kids came down because that's how that's how late I was.
- 9:48SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 9:48SPEAKER_15: So hopefully it doesn't happen like that tomorrow.
- 9:50SPEAKER_15: I don't think it will.
- 9:51SPEAKER_15: I think tomorrow's gonna be a little because there's not as many kids in the pre-K in kindergarten.
- 9:56SPEAKER_15: So I think it'll be a little bit smoother and probably a little bit cuter, actually.
- 10:01SPEAKER_15: So I'm excited about that.
- 10:02SPEAKER_15: But yeah, uh, so that will wrap up my school concert season.
- 10:07SPEAKER_15: Of course, I'm taking Eli to see Def Leopard on July 1st.
- 10:11SPEAKER_15: That will be his first concert.
- 10:12SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 10:13SPEAKER_15: Uh and this is kind of cool.
- 10:15SPEAKER_15: I sent you a message about this, but my oldest boy who lives in New Hampshire, um wants to take me to a concert for Father's Day.
- 10:26SPEAKER_15: Not on Father's Day, but it's in August.
- 10:28SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 10:29SPEAKER_15: Um, and he knows that because he's like, What are you doing August 17th?
- 10:35SPEAKER_15: I said, And I looked, I said, That's a Sunday.
- 10:37SPEAKER_15: I said, Nothing.
- 10:38SPEAKER_15: He's like, You don't have any concerts or anything?
- 10:40SPEAKER_15: You know, you and the syndicate or whatever.
- 10:42SPEAKER_15: And I said, No.
- 10:44SPEAKER_15: I said, We have shows the three days before that.
- 10:47SPEAKER_15: Yeah in a row.
- 10:48SPEAKER_15: Yeah he's like, Oh, never mind then.
- 10:50SPEAKER_15: And I was like, What?
- 10:52SPEAKER_15: And he's like, I wanted to give you a Father's Day present.
- 10:55SPEAKER_15: I said, What was it?
- 10:56SPEAKER_15: Well he's like, I wanted to take you see the Doobie Brothers in you know, down in uh Guildford, New Hampshire.
- 11:02SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 11:03SPEAKER_15: I was like, oh And I didn't realize that I would have been back to school by that point.
- 11:10SPEAKER_15: That's early, but yeah.
- 11:11SPEAKER_15: Because August 17th, I think I we usually go back the that week of the seven of the 17th, 18th, but we go back before that, I think.
- 11:20SPEAKER_15: So anyway.
- 11:22SPEAKER_15: He says, No, that'll just be too much.
- 11:24SPEAKER_15: And I said, Well uh it is the doobie brothers.
- 11:29SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 11:30SPEAKER_15: And I said, I can drive down Sunday, we'll go to the show, and then stay the night at his place, and then get up early and drive the five, six hours, whatever it is, home because I don't have to be back because the little kids aren't in school yet.
- 11:49SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 11:50SPEAKER_15: It's just the high school.
- 11:51SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 11:52SPEAKER_15: So I theoretically could drive all morning and get back by my several period class, which starts at about one fifty.
- 12:02SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, no problem.
- 12:03SPEAKER_15: You know?
- 12:04SPEAKER_15: So I said, I said, book it, Dano.
- 12:08SPEAKER_15: Noise.
- 12:09SPEAKER_15: So he got the tickets.
- 12:10SPEAKER_15: So so he and his wife and I are are going to see the Doobie Brothers, and that's why I was like, I was like, boys, it'd be great to have Doug.
- 12:16SPEAKER_15: So that's why I was like, you should get tickets.
- 12:18SPEAKER_15: But then of course I thought if you do get tickets, there's no guarantee that you're gonna be sitting next to us.
- 12:22SPEAKER_15: Yeah, that'd be like, you know, or anything like that.
- 12:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 12:27SPEAKER_11: I'm I'm out in the parking lot.
- 12:31SPEAKER_15: But the doobies are coming to Bangor, right?
- 12:33SPEAKER_14: Is that what I have no idea?
- 12:35SPEAKER_14: I haven't heard.
- 12:35SPEAKER_14: I thought they were.
- 12:36SPEAKER_14: They might be.
- 12:37SPEAKER_14: Didn't we say we should go to the doobie brothers?
- 12:39SPEAKER_11: No, we said we should go to Chicago.
- 12:41SPEAKER_15: Oh, that's right.
- 12:42SPEAKER_15: It was Chicago.
- 12:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 12:43SPEAKER_15: It was Chicago.
- 12:45SPEAKER_11: No, Br I don't think the doobies are coming to the brother.
- 12:48SPEAKER_11: I'd like to, but when is that?
- 12:50SPEAKER_11: End of July.
- 12:56SPEAKER_15: Well, we'll see.
- 12:57SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_16: We got time.
- 12:58SPEAKER_15: We got time.
- 12:59SPEAKER_15: You know I only get like a month of summer.
- 13:04SPEAKER_15: Off.
- 13:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I I'm trying, I'm trying to reveal.
- 13:10SPEAKER_11: Feel bad?
- 13:11SPEAKER_11: Yeah, well, yeah.
- 13:12SPEAKER_11: I mean, you know, considering my line of work that I just got out of, um, you know, some it didn't matter.
- 13:18SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 13:19SPEAKER_15: It's just like you're in, you're out.
- 13:21SPEAKER_15: You know, people people say that, you know, summer teacher get teachers get their summers off, which is a myth.
- 13:26SPEAKER_15: They don't, because they're they're preparing for the next year and there's a lot going on.
- 13:30SPEAKER_15: A lot going on.
- 13:31SPEAKER_11: But but normally But if you think about it, you only you know you get out of school like the middle of June.
- 13:37SPEAKER_11: Well, we usually get out a little earlier than that.
- 13:40SPEAKER_11: But I was just saying roughly around around the middle of June.
- 13:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 13:43SPEAKER_11: You're back to school around the middle of August.
- 13:46SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 13:46SPEAKER_11: So you really only get like two months off.
- 13:48SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 13:49SPEAKER_15: But this year we are in school.
- 13:52SPEAKER_15: Our last um teacher in service day is the twenty-first of June.
- 13:59SPEAKER_15: And so we get all of July, the last week in June, and the first week in August.
- 14:07SPEAKER_15: So we get like a month and a half of of summer.
- 14:11SPEAKER_15: Which, I mean, I'll take.
- 14:13SPEAKER_15: You know, it's it's it's good to have, but I'm gonna be doing two classes, two online classes, and yeah.
- 14:20SPEAKER_15: Not just dump.
- 14:21SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 14:22SPEAKER_15: It is so dumb.
- 14:24SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it is dumb, but we'll make the best of it.
- 14:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 14:27SPEAKER_15: Uh so that's what's going on.
- 14:31SPEAKER_15: Am I missing anything?
- 14:32SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we got a we got a syndicate gig coming up.
- 14:34SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's right.
- 14:35SPEAKER_15: Yes, this Sunday.
- 14:36SPEAKER_15: Uh June 1st is our first official the start of the touring season.
- 14:41SPEAKER_14: Start of the touring season.
- 14:43SPEAKER_15: Touring.
- 14:44SPEAKER_14: In Smyrna.
- 14:47SPEAKER_15: Yeah, uh we love we love our our our Well, that's our it's our hometown crowd.
- 14:51SPEAKER_11: So I mean, you know, we just gotta, we you know, we enjoy it.
- 14:54SPEAKER_11: So it's a yeah, that's that's where we it's uh that's like our our test.
- 14:59SPEAKER_14: Are we in the same place?
- 15:00SPEAKER_14: Probably, I assume so.
- 15:02SPEAKER_14: In the little church.
- 15:03SPEAKER_14: Church thing.
- 15:03SPEAKER_14: The old church, yeah.
- 15:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah, haunted, possibly.
- 15:06SPEAKER_14: Yeah, possibly.
- 15:07SPEAKER_11: Um but uh yeah, that's where we try out the new stuff that we haven't tried out yet.
- 15:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 15:13SPEAKER_11: See if it goes.
- 15:14SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 15:14SPEAKER_11: Tweak some things.
- 15:15SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 15:16SPEAKER_11: You know.
- 15:16SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 15:17SPEAKER_11: So it'll be interesting.
- 15:18SPEAKER_15: It will be interesting.
- 15:19SPEAKER_15: It'll be fun.
- 15:19SPEAKER_15: I mean, it's it'll be loud.
- 15:21SPEAKER_15: It doesn't matter where we are, or it's as long as we're the what the band is is hanging out together.
- 15:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's all about that's all we care about.
- 15:28SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 15:29SPEAKER_11: I mean, if nobody showed up, it'd be like a paid practice.
- 15:31SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 15:32SPEAKER_15: And we would have fun too.
- 15:33SPEAKER_11: And we would still have fun.
- 15:34SPEAKER_11: So it that that you gotta love that.
- 15:36SPEAKER_15: That's the beauty of this band.
- 15:37SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 15:37SPEAKER_15: It's it's it's we like hanging out together.
- 15:39SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 15:40SPEAKER_15: Um, we don't talk about politics, we don't talk about religion, yeah, any of that stuff.
- 15:45SPEAKER_15: We just we just enjoy each other's company and we talk about play music.
- 15:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's really it's really the epitome of the American dream.
- 15:53SPEAKER_11: You know, we got people of different backgrounds and you know, viewpoints and stuff like that, but you know, and everybody holds those viewpoints pretty firmly.
- 16:03SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 16:04SPEAKER_11: But when we're all together, nobody cares.
- 16:06SPEAKER_11: It's all about the music, it's all about playing music.
- 16:08SPEAKER_11: It's music for everybody, man.
- 16:09SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 16:10SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 16:10SPEAKER_15: So exactly.
- 16:11SPEAKER_15: So yeah, I'm excited about that.
- 16:13SPEAKER_15: Um it'll be fun.
- 16:15SPEAKER_15: Uh let's see.
- 16:16SPEAKER_15: What else?
- 16:17SPEAKER_15: What am I oh you know what?
- 16:19SPEAKER_15: You and I need to write a book.
- 16:21SPEAKER_15: We've been talking about this.
- 16:23SPEAKER_15: Uh the kids' book.
- 16:25SPEAKER_15: And here's Can part of it be coloring?
- 16:28SPEAKER_15: Well, here's why I say it.
- 16:30SPEAKER_15: Here's why I say I think we can do it.
- 16:32SPEAKER_15: Because I, you know, you know how I feel about like movie soundtracks.
- 16:36SPEAKER_15: Correct.
- 16:37SPEAKER_15: Scores, like movie scores.
- 16:38SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 16:39SPEAKER_15: And and those composers.
- 16:40SPEAKER_15: And so I was like, I want to read John Williams' biography.
- 16:45SPEAKER_15: John Williams, of course, the composer who's responsible for uh uh uh uh uh Indiana Jones, Star Wars, you know, just I mean the list goes on.
- 16:55SPEAKER_15: Superman, the list goes on and on.
- 16:56SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 16:57SPEAKER_15: Basically every Spielberg movie is is John Williams.
- 17:01SPEAKER_11: I was gonna say, like counters of the third kind, yeah, yeah.
- 17:04SPEAKER_11: All those following by Jaws, I think.
- 17:06SPEAKER_11: Didn't he do Jaws?
- 17:07SPEAKER_15: He did do Jaws, yeah.
- 17:08SPEAKER_15: So uh so I said I want to read his biography, so I went on Amazon and I was like, Oh, there's one right here, and it's really not that expensive.
- 17:14SPEAKER_15: I mean, it's you know, I think it was like maybe about 20 bucks, something like that.
- 17:19SPEAKER_11: Man, I tell you what, go on Amazon and peruse like the used books, man, you can get some good deals.
- 17:25SPEAKER_15: Well, here's the thing.
- 17:27SPEAKER_16: So I ordered it and I got it in.
- 17:30SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 17:33SPEAKER_15: Are you freaking kidding me right now?
- 17:35SPEAKER_14: Take it and look at it.
- 17:36SPEAKER_14: Open it up.
- 17:36SPEAKER_14: Open that up.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: What the frig?
- 17:43SPEAKER_11: I'm surprised it's not a pop-up book.
- 17:45SPEAKER_11: It's like a school project.
- 17:46SPEAKER_11: I think it's a school project.
- 17:47SPEAKER_11: Is it somebody's like term paper?
- 17:49SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 17:51SPEAKER_11: What the frig, dude.
- 17:53SPEAKER_11: It's literally and it's on it's not even a year old.
- 17:57SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 17:58SPEAKER_15: And it's it's it's the print is large and it looks almost like a like a kid's book.
- 18:05SPEAKER_11: Um I literally could read this on the podcast and we we still have time to do a wall of tunes.
- 18:11SPEAKER_15: Absolutely.
- 18:12SPEAKER_11: What the frick?
- 18:13SPEAKER_15: And each section is labeled and you know early years, and there's like two characters.
- 18:18SPEAKER_11: I'm already in part three, and we're only on page 12.
- 18:23SPEAKER_15: I mean, it's like Introduction.
- 18:27SPEAKER_15: So John Williams.
- 18:28SPEAKER_15: Somebody put this together and then put it on Amazon to stay.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: You paid, you paid 20 bucks.
- 18:33SPEAKER_15: I don't remember what I paid, but it wasn't a lot.
- 18:35SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 18:36SPEAKER_17: But but it's like I've I've seen bigger pamphlets.
- 18:40SPEAKER_15: And I haven't read it yet just because I feel very insulted.
- 18:44SPEAKER_14: Well, because it would take 10 minutes.
- 18:47SPEAKER_11: I mean, you literally could do finish this off on a trip to the bathroom, right?
- 18:52unknown: Wow.
- 18:53SPEAKER_15: So that's what I'm saying.
- 18:54SPEAKER_15: We should write our children's book and put it on Amazon.
- 18:57SPEAKER_11: If that can, if that can go on Amazon, then our book can go on Amazon.
- 19:01SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 19:02SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 19:03SPEAKER_11: That's that's ridiculous.
- 19:05SPEAKER_11: A man of that stature should have something better than that.
- 19:09SPEAKER_16: Look at his last name.
- 19:11SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 19:12SPEAKER_16: It says it all.
- 19:13SPEAKER_11: Probably that's probably why.
- 19:18SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 19:18SPEAKER_11: We'll just leave it at that.
- 19:20SPEAKER_11: The original manuscript is in crayon.
- 19:24SPEAKER_11: So probably.
- 19:26SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 19:27SPEAKER_11: So that that depresses me then.
- 19:30SPEAKER_15: Changing gears.
- 19:31SPEAKER_15: Changing gears.
- 19:33SPEAKER_15: Um just a little bit of a tribute.
- 19:52SPEAKER_15: Billy Joel.
- 19:54SPEAKER_15: You heard about Billy Joel?
- 19:55SPEAKER_15: No.
- 19:56SPEAKER_15: Oh, okay.
- 19:58SPEAKER_15: Uh Billy Joel cancels tour after the diagnosis of rare brain disorder.
- 20:04SPEAKER_11: Oh.
- 20:05SPEAKER_15: So this is pretty big news.
- 20:06SPEAKER_11: Well, I heard he he was gonna go on tour and then he canceled it for some reason.
- 20:10SPEAKER_15: Yeah, so why, huh?
- 20:11SPEAKER_15: He uh during one of his performances, he fell.
- 20:15SPEAKER_15: And uh it came to light that he had been experiencing uh some issues with his hearing, with his vision, and with his balance.
- 20:25SPEAKER_15: And they thought it was the beginning stages of Alzheimer's, but he went in for some tests and turns out he has something even more rare than that, and it's it's often uh misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's disease.
- 20:39SPEAKER_15: It's called normal pressure hydrocephalus.
- 20:45SPEAKER_11: Okay, so I know cephalous has to do with swelling of the brain.
- 20:50SPEAKER_15: Yeah, so so this is a disorder where excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain.
- 20:58SPEAKER_07: Oh, okay.
- 20:59SPEAKER_15: Um and less than 20% of people with this disease are properly diagnosed.
- 21:05SPEAKER_15: Now he's 76.
- 21:07SPEAKER_15: Um uh he's undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.
- 21:14SPEAKER_15: Uh, and he's thankful for the excellent care he's receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health.
- 21:19SPEAKER_15: It affects only point two percent of people in their seventies.
- 21:24SPEAKER_15: So it's pretty rare.
- 21:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 21:26SPEAKER_15: Um sufferers usually undergo surgery where a shunt is implanted to remove the excess fluids.
- 21:33SPEAKER_15: So he's pretty bummed that but you know, uh he obviously has canceled uh his own.
- 21:40SPEAKER_15: Obviously, yeah.
- 21:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you know, yeah.
- 21:42SPEAKER_12: Uh just I think that's just sad.
- 21:44SPEAKER_12: It is sad.
- 21:45SPEAKER_11: So I you know, your heroes are you know getting picked off by old age and right, right.
- 21:50SPEAKER_15: You know.
- 21:51SPEAKER_15: Uh speaking of that, let's move on to Rick Derringer.
- 21:54SPEAKER_15: Uh Rick Derringer, of course, you know, is responsible for if you live Not that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_11: For that commercial.
- 22:01SPEAKER_11: For that commercial.
- 22:02SPEAKER_11: For some sort of furnace.
- 22:04SPEAKER_11: Oh, it's a heat pump water heater.
- 22:16SPEAKER_15: Of course, rock and roll hoochie koo.
- 22:26SPEAKER_15: So now he was.
- 22:30SPEAKER_15: Do you remember the McCoys?
- 22:32SPEAKER_15: Hang on Sloopy?
- 22:32SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 22:33SPEAKER_15: That was Rick Derringer.
- 22:34SPEAKER_15: Oh, yeah.
- 22:34SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 22:34SPEAKER_15: That was his original band.
- 22:38SPEAKER_15: Scored a number one hit, of course, with Hang on Sloopy.
- 22:42SPEAKER_15: They had a top 10 cover of Fever and a cover of Richie Vallon's Come On Let's Go, which reached the top 40.
- 22:49SPEAKER_15: And did you know he was he produced Weird Al Yankovic's first few albums?
- 22:59SPEAKER_11: I think I do because nobody would touch him with a 10-foot pole.
- 23:04SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 23:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 23:04SPEAKER_15: And and and um Eat It, um, Weird Al's um parody of Beat It from Michael Jackson.
- 23:13SPEAKER_15: You know how on the original Beat It, Eddie Van Halen played the guitar.
- 23:16SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 23:16SPEAKER_15: Well, Rick Deringer played the guitar on Weird Al's version.
- 23:20SPEAKER_15: So uh Rick Derringer, of course, um a legend, uh legendary guitar player, passed passed away at the age of 77.
- 23:29SPEAKER_15: And it says it was he was uh surrounded by his family, but died peacefully in his sleep uh after being taken off life support following a medical episode.
- 23:37SPEAKER_15: See he so he was um, you know, I mean like again, 77 years old.
- 23:41SPEAKER_15: So like you said, our heroes are are uh timing outside.
- 23:46SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 23:47SPEAKER_15: Um I want to move on to this because people are making a big deal about this um new song.
- 23:55SPEAKER_15: Well, it's a new version of an old song, and they're saying it's it's just so powerful.
- 24:02SPEAKER_15: Do you remember uh John how Johnny Cash did hurt from um Nine Stands?
- 24:08SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 24:08SPEAKER_15: Which is a great version.
- 24:10SPEAKER_15: Actually, a very powerful version.
- 24:12SPEAKER_15: I don't know if that's what they were going for on this.
- 24:15SPEAKER_15: But I read article after article how this is so powerful and uh you know, like a dream.
- 24:30SPEAKER_15: I think it is very formerly singer of Journey.
- 24:43SPEAKER_15: To do a cover of Journey song faithfully.
- 24:45SPEAKER_15: Have you heard it yet?
- 24:46SPEAKER_11: No, but I really don't have any high hopes for this.
- 24:50SPEAKER_15: Well it's Willie Nelson who's 92.
- 24:55SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 24:56SPEAKER_15: I love Willie Nelson.
- 24:58SPEAKER_15: Yeah, don't get me wrong, yeah.
- 25:00SPEAKER_15: Right?
- 25:00SPEAKER_15: Come on.
- 25:01SPEAKER_15: And his his um um output for this song, or his input for this song, was what you expect from a 92-year-old country singer.
- 25:14SPEAKER_15: Just like Johnny Cash's uh uh performance on Hurt was kind of what you expect.
- 25:18SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 25:19SPEAKER_15: Um Steve Perry.
- 25:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's what's throwing me off.
- 25:27SPEAKER_15: And this is a song that he originally sang.
- 25:30SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 25:31SPEAKER_15: I'm gonna play it for you.
- 25:33SPEAKER_15: Um I want you to brace yourself.
- 25:35SPEAKER_11: You have like a birth bag.
- 25:37SPEAKER_15: Oh, wait, here's a I feel like I'm setting it up wrong.
- 25:40SPEAKER_11: Okay, I'm ready.
- 25:42SPEAKER_15: I feel like I'm setting it up wrong.
- 25:43SPEAKER_15: Maybe I shouldn't poison you uh before I I let you hear it.
- 25:48SPEAKER_11: Oh, trust me, I probably will have strong appearance.
- 25:51SPEAKER_15: Look, so so Steve Perry's new version of Faithfully, Goosebumps or Measles.
- 25:55SPEAKER_15: Yeah, no.
- 25:56SPEAKER_11: That's a bad title.
- 25:58SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 25:59SPEAKER_15: Okay, so um I wanted to play it for you.
- 26:03SPEAKER_15: I'm not sure.
- 26:03SPEAKER_15: This is I think it's on Willie Nelson's record.
- 26:07SPEAKER_15: Uh proceeds from the single will be donated to Farmade.
- 26:11SPEAKER_15: Okay, so I think it is on Willie's record.
- 26:14SPEAKER_15: Um, I don't know that I can make it through the whole song.
- 26:16SPEAKER_11: That's fine.
- 26:17SPEAKER_15: Um it is the music is beautiful.
- 26:20SPEAKER_15: Of course, we all know the song.
- 26:26SPEAKER_11: It's definitely been country fight.
- 26:28SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 26:29SPEAKER_15: So just give it a second.
- 26:35SPEAKER_19: Highway run.
- 26:39SPEAKER_19: In the midnight sun.
- 26:44SPEAKER_19: Wheels go round and round, finger on my mind.
- 26:55SPEAKER_19: Restless hearts sleep alone tonight.
- 27:00SPEAKER_12: Not terrible yet.
- 27:02SPEAKER_19: No, send it all my love along why they say the road ain't no place to start a family right down line it's better you and me.
- 27:22SPEAKER_11: Okay, now it's going downhill.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: You're loving the music man ain't always what it's supposed to be.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: Oh girl, oh girl, Sam I'm forever Fatefully.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: Listen to the listen to the ooze.
- 28:00SPEAKER_16: Does that sound off pitch to you?
- 28:04SPEAKER_11: But you know it was fine until Steve Perry got in.
- 28:08SPEAKER_11: That's what I mean.
- 28:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 28:10SPEAKER_11: Now it's ruined.
- 28:11SPEAKER_11: We don't need the clowns.
- 28:13SPEAKER_11: If Willie had done the whole thing by himself, it would have been awesome.
- 28:17SPEAKER_11: I think you're right.
- 28:18SPEAKER_11: But Steve Perry freaking ruined it.
- 28:22SPEAKER_11: And he's it even sounds like he's trying to screw it up.
- 28:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 28:26SPEAKER_11: Or like he's trying to He's trying not to be Steve Perry from Journey doing a journey song.
- 28:33SPEAKER_11: That's what it sounds like to me.
- 28:34SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 28:35SPEAKER_11: He's trying to get on Willie's level.
- 28:38SPEAKER_11: And you can't get on Willie's level.
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: Because you're not Willie Nelson.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this strangers learn.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:49SPEAKER_14: I'm sorry.
- 28:50SPEAKER_14: Steve Perry ruined it.
- 28:51SPEAKER_14: I I agree.
- 28:52SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 28:53SPEAKER_14: I agree.
- 28:54SPEAKER_14: Completely.
- 28:54SPEAKER_11: But the music, the music's great.
- 28:56SPEAKER_11: I think and I think like you said, yeah, if it was just a Willie Nelson tune, nobody, nobody bought Willie Nelson with this song, with the with this music in the back.
- 29:06SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 29:06SPEAKER_14: It'd be awesome.
- 29:08SPEAKER_14: I would be like, yeah, that's awesome.
- 29:10SPEAKER_14: I think you're right.
- 29:10SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I think you're right.
- 29:12SPEAKER_11: Because in the beginning it was just Willie, and I was like, oh yeah, this is actually pretty cool.
- 29:16SPEAKER_11: Because I'm not a huge fan of the journey version anyway.
- 29:19SPEAKER_15: Of journeys.
- 29:20SPEAKER_15: That song.
- 29:21SPEAKER_11: Of like a faithful.
- 29:22SPEAKER_11: I'm not a big fan of this.
- 29:24SPEAKER_17: It's just too, it's just, you know, as a diabetic, it gives me, you know, it sends me to like I'm like, oh, I don't feel like I need to take some.
- 29:38SPEAKER_17: I need some I need some insulin.
- 29:40SPEAKER_17: You know what I mean?
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: Sing it, Doug.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: This song sucks.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Cause Steve Perry thinks.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: He's the greatest guy of all time.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: People like this song.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: I don't care for it.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: It sends me into diabetic shock every time.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: The internet is no place for this song.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: We should have sent it on the space shuttle and sent it to Pluto.
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: And then nobody would ever have to hear it ever again.
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: Except for some alien that doesn't exist.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: I'm forever not liking this song.
- 30:59SPEAKER_13: There.
- 31:00SPEAKER_13: We made it better.
- 31:03SPEAKER_11: Let's post this and see how many likes we get.
- 31:07SPEAKER_15: Of course, I do disagree with you.
- 31:08SPEAKER_15: I love the song face.
- 31:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I know, I know.
- 31:10SPEAKER_11: I like because you're a bit you're a huge journey fan too.
- 31:13SPEAKER_15: I am.
- 31:14SPEAKER_11: And I I and I like Journey too, but it that song just every time it comes on, I'm just like, oh.
- 31:19SPEAKER_15: Yeah, no, it's Neil Sean's guitar in that song.
- 31:22SPEAKER_15: It's just it's just beautiful.
- 31:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I mean, I as far as me, I I I think maybe it's just like overexposure to the song because every time you hear a journey song, like a like a slow journey song, it's gonna be that song.
- 31:33SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 31:33SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 31:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 31:35SPEAKER_11: So uh yeah, I mean, I mean, up until the point where Steve Perry came on to that, that was actually a pretty good version.
- 31:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 31:43SPEAKER_15: Like I said, I love Willie Nelson, and he's 92 freaking years old.
- 31:46SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 31:47SPEAKER_15: And and he could have done like a Johnny Cash thing if Steve would have left it alone.
- 31:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, if Steve had left that alone, that would have been awesome.
- 31:53SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 31:53SPEAKER_11: I would have loved it.
- 31:55SPEAKER_15: I agree.
- 31:56SPEAKER_15: Let's change tunes now because I have a new song, which I think is I haven't heard it yet.
- 32:02SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 32:02SPEAKER_15: But um curious as to what this sounds like.
- 32:05SPEAKER_15: It's an interesting pairing.
- 32:07SPEAKER_15: Tony Iomi of Black Sabbath has teamed up with Robbie Williams.
- 32:14SPEAKER_14: Really?
- 32:15SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 32:18SPEAKER_15: It's gonna be part of Robbie Williams' upcoming Spaceship Rocket or Rocket.
- 32:23SPEAKER_15: No, no, Spaceship Rocket.
- 32:24SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 32:24SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 32:25SPEAKER_15: Uh his alb uh album, aptly titled Brit Pop, is coming out this fall.
- 32:29SPEAKER_15: Who's album?
- 32:30SPEAKER_15: Uh Robbie Williams.
- 32:31SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 32:32SPEAKER_15: Um is not the only former Sabbath member to be a part of Williams' album.
- 32:37SPEAKER_15: Glenn Hughes also participated in it.
- 32:39SPEAKER_15: Uh, but Williams has said that Rocket is his top choice.
- 32:43SPEAKER_15: This track is massive guitars, as you can imagine.
- 32:45SPEAKER_15: It's adrenaline-filled and balls to the wall.
- 32:48SPEAKER_15: That one in particular is my favorite song off my new album that I've just announced is happening.
- 32:51SPEAKER_15: Okay, so I thought we would listen to it.
- 32:54SPEAKER_15: Alright.
- 32:54SPEAKER_15: Robbie Williams, who is uh a British pop.
- 32:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah, he's kind of like a pop guy.
- 32:59SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I always I don't know why, but I always uh equate him with uh what's his face?
- 33:05SPEAKER_11: George Michael?
- 33:06SPEAKER_11: No, no.
- 33:07SPEAKER_11: Um Livin' La Vita Loca guy.
- 33:12SPEAKER_11: Oh, Ricky Martin?
- 33:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 33:13SPEAKER_11: I don't know why.
- 33:13SPEAKER_11: Really?
- 33:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I don't know why.
- 33:15SPEAKER_11: I uh I kind of put him in the same category.
- 33:17SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 33:18SPEAKER_15: Um well let's see what it sounds like.
- 33:21SPEAKER_15: This is Rocket from uh Robbie Williams and Tony Iomi of Black Sabbath.
- 33:33unknown: It's not a servant of farms and the farms and you don't mind.
- 34:26SPEAKER_13: I d I don't hate it.
- 34:27SPEAKER_13: Avrilavina shit.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like a pop punk.
- 34:32SPEAKER_15: Doesn't sound like a Tony Tony Iom influenced song.
- 34:36SPEAKER_11: Not really.
- 34:37SPEAKER_11: I I mean that's definitely not a top uh Tony Iomie sound.
- 34:43SPEAKER_11: No, no, it's like it's filtered or something.
- 35:03SPEAKER_11: That that sounds like I don't hate it.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: No, it's it's not bad.
- 35:28SPEAKER_15: I mean it's not it's not bullying me over, but it's not I'm not like wow, it's great.
- 35:35SPEAKER_16: It's good.
- 35:35SPEAKER_16: It's not terrible.
- 35:36SPEAKER_16: It's good.
- 35:36SPEAKER_15: It's good.
- 35:37SPEAKER_15: Uh once again, Brit Pop comes out in the fall.
- 35:39SPEAKER_15: There is no release date as of yet.
- 35:41SPEAKER_15: So uh we'll see how that uh we'll see how that works.
- 35:45SPEAKER_15: What happened to her?
- 35:47SPEAKER_15: Um you know what time it is.
- 35:48SPEAKER_15: Oh, actually, um before we do that, I was looking um I have found some old demos of mine.
- 35:57SPEAKER_15: Um I thought maybe we could listen to a couple just because uh they're never going to see the light of day.
- 36:06SPEAKER_15: Um maybe I've already played some of these.
- 36:10SPEAKER_15: Um there's one that I know I haven't played.
- 36:13SPEAKER_15: Uh this one.
- 36:17SPEAKER_15: I think maybe I have played this one.
- 36:20SPEAKER_15: I don't remember because that's what I'm playing it again.
- 36:23SPEAKER_15: Um this one has a great guitar solo in it.
- 36:26SPEAKER_15: It's one of my favorite guitar solo I've ever done, and it's really not that fantastic.
- 36:31SPEAKER_15: Alright.
- 36:31SPEAKER_15: What if it's a song?
- 36:33SPEAKER_15: Um and I think there's too many words for this tempo.
- 36:39SPEAKER_15: Uh I think it's going too fast for the amount of words that are in it.
- 36:43SPEAKER_15: So this will never see the light of day.
- 36:45SPEAKER_15: Um, this is called If I Said I Would.
- 36:48SPEAKER_15: Have I played this?
- 36:51SPEAKER_11: You got me, man.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: Doesn't sound funny Where would you go if I said I would leave?
- 37:08SPEAKER_04: If I forgot that it's better to give than to receive.
- 37:14SPEAKER_04: Would you love me like you thought you should?
- 37:18SPEAKER_04: If I said I would remember.
- 37:23SPEAKER_04: Nope, nope.
- 37:27SPEAKER_04: If I said I changed, if all the ways you know me completely raised.
- 38:35SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it's not like gonna bow you over, but but uh I always liked it.
- 38:39SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it was that fits perfectly with a song.
- 38:42SPEAKER_15: If we stop.
- 38:42SPEAKER_15: Uh and then I have this one, One Day Soon.
- 38:46SPEAKER_15: Um, and again, uh the only reason I'm doing this is because I don't know that anything's gonna ever happen with these songs, whether we're gonna record them or you know, whatever, but have you heard this one?
- 39:01SPEAKER_15: Nope.
- 39:03SPEAKER_15: I'm holding out on you, apparently.
- 39:04SPEAKER_15: That's all.
- 39:05SPEAKER_04: Standing out the window, coming down the aisle.
- 39:09SPEAKER_04: Never thought I'd give you this much foul, but on the spell.
- 39:14SPEAKER_04: I feel for your job.
- 39:21SPEAKER_12: Yo, that's actually foam.
- 39:26SPEAKER_04: I don't know if I'm a still out of the phone.
- 39:31SPEAKER_12: That's what that is.
- 39:36SPEAKER_11: Was it one of those toy saxophones that like Jack Black played on the tonight, Joe?
- 40:40SPEAKER_15: Anyway.
- 40:40SPEAKER_15: Um very rockabilly.
- 40:42SPEAKER_15: Right?
- 40:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 40:44SPEAKER_15: Uh this one, uh I'm only gonna do two more.
- 40:47SPEAKER_15: So this one, this is how my a lot of my demos typically are.
- 40:52SPEAKER_15: Just me sitting at the kitchen table with an acoustic guitar.
- 40:55SPEAKER_15: But I like this song.
- 40:56SPEAKER_15: I added a harmony vocal to it.
- 40:58SPEAKER_15: Uh, you can hear Finn in the background.
- 41:00SPEAKER_15: This is when he was really little.
- 41:02SPEAKER_15: You can hear Finn in the background like trying to clap the the beat.
- 41:05SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 41:06SPEAKER_11: So this one sounds familiar.
- 41:18SPEAKER_11: Really?
- 41:19SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 41:24SPEAKER_04: Wake up.
- 41:27SPEAKER_04: I kiss your mouth.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: Then I'm going to some feet.
- 41:35SPEAKER_04: Turn down the light on the day.
- 41:42SPEAKER_16: How old was it?
- 41:43SPEAKER_16: I don't remember it.
- 41:44SPEAKER_16: I don't know.
- 41:45SPEAKER_16: I don't remember when this song was written.
- 41:47SPEAKER_11: Can we disappear?
- 41:48SPEAKER_11: Yeah, this song sounds really familiar.
- 41:51SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: Put it all over there.
- 41:56SPEAKER_04: Oh, where we never met.
- 41:59SPEAKER_04: No one will know.
- 42:02SPEAKER_04: No one will hear.
- 42:05SPEAKER_04: Just click your heels together, we can disappear.
- 42:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 42:09SPEAKER_15: This one's really familiar.
- 42:11SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I think maybe I played that one for you.
- 42:12SPEAKER_15: So this one I haven't played for anyone.
- 42:15SPEAKER_15: Um, and I um I'm hesitant to play it now.
- 42:19SPEAKER_15: This was kind of a joke song.
- 42:21SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 42:22SPEAKER_15: Um it's a it's a it's a country uh ballad.
- 42:27SPEAKER_15: Um it is not autobiographical.
- 42:31SPEAKER_15: Let's say that.
- 42:32SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 42:33SPEAKER_15: And um because I know my my wife probably will listen to this podcast and think this song is about her.
- 42:41SPEAKER_15: But it's not.
- 42:42SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's not one of the 75,000 songs you've written about her.
- 42:45SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 42:46SPEAKER_15: But this one, it starts off like This is not one of those.
- 42:49SPEAKER_15: It starts off like a like a just a down on his luck country ballad, right?
- 42:53SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 42:54SPEAKER_15: But then it gets ridiculous.
- 42:56SPEAKER_15: Like the lyrics get ridiculous.
- 42:58SPEAKER_15: Like I think they're kind of funny.
- 43:00SPEAKER_15: This is called She Don't Want Me.
- 43:01SPEAKER_15: Are you drunk?
- 43:02SPEAKER_15: No, I maybe I don't I don't get drunk very often, but we had a fight the kind that never dies.
- 43:17SPEAKER_04: I can still see the embers burning.
- 43:23SPEAKER_04: But after twenty years I've changed just a little light around the top, flick around the middle.
- 43:35SPEAKER_04: She swore she never walked right out the door.
- 43:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know she loves me.
- 43:44SPEAKER_04: She don't want me anymore.
- 43:51SPEAKER_04: I've tried the gym, but I couldn't find the time.
- 43:58SPEAKER_04: Besides, I like.
- 44:00SPEAKER_04: Pizza and a cool pizza.
- 44:04SPEAKER_04: I've a notion of perfume romance.
- 44:10SPEAKER_04: Just so I can get a dance.
- 44:24SPEAKER_04: Is this where Steve Perry comes to me at the animal?
- 44:30SPEAKER_04: She'll never say it's true.
- 44:33SPEAKER_04: She'll say it's crazy talk.
- 44:36SPEAKER_04: But she closes her eyes when she's not watching the clock the old past turned into show.
- 44:49SPEAKER_04: And oh she loves me.
- 44:52SPEAKER_04: She don't want me anymore.
- 44:57SPEAKER_04: That's a good line.
- 45:01SPEAKER_04: She looks better than she did in high school.
- 45:07SPEAKER_04: I can't put that down at the sprit.
- 45:21SPEAKER_04: She don't make a side.
- 45:26SPEAKER_04: She don't make a side.
- 45:29SPEAKER_04: She just shakes her head.
- 45:32SPEAKER_04: But she's built to pour a wall down the middle of a bed.
- 45:39SPEAKER_04: Sometimes I just won't make that lion roll.
- 45:44SPEAKER_04: I know she loves me.
- 45:48SPEAKER_04: She don't want me anymore.
- 45:54SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you kind of went off all rails.
- 45:56SPEAKER_15: I did, I did.
- 45:57SPEAKER_15: It was it was in in you're right.
- 45:59SPEAKER_15: It started out as a great idea.
- 46:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 46:02SPEAKER_15: You know, um the the uh we built a fire.
- 46:06SPEAKER_11: You still see the embers in her eyes and her eyes.
- 46:08SPEAKER_15: I know that she loves me, she don't want me anymore.
- 46:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, the great lines.
- 46:10SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 46:11SPEAKER_11: And then I just the donut.
- 46:15SPEAKER_11: I was like, what the freak is?
- 46:18SPEAKER_11: I'm thicker around the middle.
- 46:19SPEAKER_11: What does that just do with donuts?
- 46:24SPEAKER_15: She doesn't want me anymore.
- 46:26SPEAKER_11: I like donuts.
- 46:27SPEAKER_11: I wanted to write a song.
- 46:28SPEAKER_11: I wanted to write a song with a donut in it, okay, dog?
- 46:31SPEAKER_11: Stop being a jerk.
- 46:32SPEAKER_11: And I like pizza and beer.
- 46:34SPEAKER_11: Pizza and beer.
- 46:35SPEAKER_11: Actually, pizza, beer, donuts, you got a good time.
- 46:40SPEAKER_11: I'm crying.
- 46:42SPEAKER_11: Uh yeah.
- 46:44SPEAKER_11: So there's that.
- 46:46SPEAKER_11: I'm trying to think of- She's gonna listen to that song and be like, yeah, that's never coming out.
- 46:53SPEAKER_15: No, we're not gonna do that.
- 46:54SPEAKER_15: Um I think most of these you've probably heard.
- 46:58SPEAKER_15: Uh yeah, I don't know.
- 47:02SPEAKER_15: I just wanted to share a few of those.
- 47:03SPEAKER_15: So we'll we'll leave it at that.
- 47:06SPEAKER_15: There's uh what?
- 47:07SPEAKER_15: I'm just thinking about the donut line.
- 47:09SPEAKER_15: Oh, well, I can show you.
- 47:10SPEAKER_15: Well, actually, I can show you this one.
- 47:11SPEAKER_15: This one is another one.
- 47:13SPEAKER_15: Uh you know, we have five kids.
- 47:15SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 47:15SPEAKER_15: And I've met them, yeah.
- 47:17SPEAKER_15: When when we um people technically like even people in our family gave us a hard time because we're having more kids.
- 47:26SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 47:27SPEAKER_15: So uh this was a reaction to that.
- 47:37SPEAKER_11: Did you record this on your phone?
- 47:39SPEAKER_11: I did.
- 47:41SPEAKER_15: I can tell.
- 47:43SPEAKER_15: This is called They say.
- 47:45SPEAKER_15: I'll just play a piece of it.
- 47:48SPEAKER_04: They say it's a tough road to hold when you dig a little deeper down.
- 47:55SPEAKER_04: They say, Aren't you a little old?
- 47:58SPEAKER_04: Chasing another one around.
- 48:01SPEAKER_04: Why you wanna go that way?
- 48:03SPEAKER_04: That's what they say.
- 48:07SPEAKER_04: They say, I bet you are sleep.
- 48:10SPEAKER_04: You look a little weary these days.
- 48:14SPEAKER_04: They say, Don't you have enough?
- 48:16SPEAKER_04: What's it take to feel your way?
- 48:20SPEAKER_04: How you wanna live that way?
- 48:22SPEAKER_04: That's what they say.
- 48:26SPEAKER_04: When it all comes down to I look around and I feel God given a smile.
- 48:32SPEAKER_04: We got sons and daughters and our heads above water.
- 48:36SPEAKER_04: We're doing it all in style.
- 48:39SPEAKER_04: So baby bubble look, we walk it down because I know it's gonna be okay.
- 48:45SPEAKER_04: I don't care what they say.
- 48:50SPEAKER_15: Anyway, that was a reaction to that.
- 48:52SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:53SPEAKER_15: So that's all I'm gonna share right now.
- 48:55SPEAKER_15: I've got a bunch more.
- 48:57SPEAKER_15: Some that you've probably never heard, but we'll save it for another time.
- 49:02SPEAKER_15: Um but yeah.
- 49:09SPEAKER_13: Well, yeah.
- 49:10SPEAKER_13: Come on, Laura.
- 49:12SPEAKER_13: The food album.
- 49:13SPEAKER_13: The food album.
- 49:14SPEAKER_13: Hey, there you go.
- 49:15SPEAKER_13: Oh, what were we gonna call this episode, by the way?
- 49:17SPEAKER_13: That's just weird.
- 49:18SPEAKER_15: That's just weird.
- 49:20SPEAKER_15: Because um I we'll just do a piece of this story.
- 49:26SPEAKER_15: So my youngest, who's in fifth grade, uh, one of her assignments uh is to write a letter to an incoming fifth grader about what to expect in this class, her class.
- 49:40SPEAKER_15: And she went on this whole entire rate.
- 49:43SPEAKER_15: But one of the things that she said, and I actually hold on, that was the very end of it.
- 49:47SPEAKER_15: My wife actually sent it to me.
- 49:49SPEAKER_15: Uh so there it is.
- 49:53SPEAKER_15: Okay, so she says, Lastly, don't have any fifth grade relationships.
- 49:58SPEAKER_15: That's just weird, and you're too young.
- 50:03SPEAKER_10: That was my favorite part of the whole thing.
- 50:05SPEAKER_15: That is the best part of the whole thing.
- 50:08SPEAKER_15: The best part.
- 50:09SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 50:11SPEAKER_10: Oh, good lord.
- 50:12SPEAKER_10: So that's so funny.
- 50:14SPEAKER_15: Um, I don't know what made me think we remember that, but I had to put that in.
- 50:18SPEAKER_15: That's just weird.
- 50:19SPEAKER_15: That's just weird.
- 50:20SPEAKER_15: You're too young.
- 50:22SPEAKER_15: Uh all right, let's do uh, you know what I think it's time for?
- 50:26SPEAKER_17: I think I know what time you do?
- 50:35SPEAKER_12: Yeah, baby.
- 50:37SPEAKER_15: All right, so we're gonna do pants first.
- 50:56SPEAKER_16: Yes!
- 51:02SPEAKER_11: Okay, so our lovely judge got it back to me.
- 51:06SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see.
- 51:10SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 51:11SPEAKER_11: Okay, so she says it was a hard pick between You're going to miss this and You Make It Easy.
- 51:19SPEAKER_11: Which I believe is your.
- 51:21SPEAKER_11: Both are really nice songs.
- 51:23SPEAKER_11: I'm not a country fan, but I do love that song.
- 51:25SPEAKER_11: It's a beautiful message, but I had to go with You Make It Easy.
- 51:28SPEAKER_11: Oh, wow.
- 51:29SPEAKER_11: The music is beautiful and the lyric and lyrically it's just as beautiful.
- 51:33SPEAKER_11: A lovely song to hum while staring out a rainy window.
- 51:36SPEAKER_15: Uh incidentally, um you know the whole story with Jude Cole.
- 51:40SPEAKER_15: Right and how we're friends on Facebook?
- 51:42SPEAKER_15: Yes.
- 51:42SPEAKER_15: Well, I had posted um for my daughter's 25th birthday.
- 51:46SPEAKER_15: You know, I said, you know, she was the first one to call me dad.
- 51:48SPEAKER_15: Jude Cole liked my post.
- 51:50SPEAKER_10: Nice! Thank you very much.
- 51:51SPEAKER_10: Yay, Jude.
- 51:52SPEAKER_10: Yay, Jude.
- 51:54SPEAKER_15: Uh, so that's cool.
- 51:55SPEAKER_15: So he got a little uh little little shout out from our illustrious what would you call her?
- 52:01SPEAKER_14: Would you call her the lovely Judgeness Judgeness?
- 52:03SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 52:04SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 52:05SPEAKER_11: This week I called her uh what did I call her this week?
- 52:09SPEAKER_11: Most honorable judgeness.
- 52:12SPEAKER_11: Very cool.
- 52:13SPEAKER_11: I try to come up with something new all the time.
- 52:15SPEAKER_11: She even answered this week's.
- 52:17SPEAKER_11: Uh she has her own pick for this week's question.
- 52:20SPEAKER_11: Oh, for this week's, yeah.
- 52:20SPEAKER_11: Oh, what was this week's question?
- 52:22SPEAKER_11: It was the um The Aliens.
- 52:24SPEAKER_11: The aliens, and you gotta get you know the most perfect love song.
- 52:28SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 52:28SPEAKER_15: Oh actually, hold on, let's read it so we Yeah, it should be right there on top.
- 52:32SPEAKER_15: If aliens came to Earth and vowed to destroy the planet unless someone played them the most epic love song of all time, what would you play?
- 52:41SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 52:41SPEAKER_15: Alright, so what did uh Cousin Larry say?
- 52:44SPEAKER_11: Okay, so Cousin Larry.
- 52:48SPEAKER_11: Okay, okay, so here's Cousin Larry's.
- 52:51SPEAKER_11: Mixtape.
- 52:52SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 52:53SPEAKER_11: This was uh this one was tough.
- 52:55SPEAKER_11: There are so many great love songs out there, and one will save the world from Marvin the Martian and his Q36 Ellium Space Punch later and the impending could do.
- 53:07SPEAKER_11: That's why we love Cousin Larry's.
- 53:08SPEAKER_11: Yes, it is.
- 53:09SPEAKER_11: I love Elvis's Can't Help Falling in Love, Whitney's I Will Always Love You, At Last by Edda James, and I'll Stand By You by the Pretenders.
- 53:17SPEAKER_11: But I have to go with You're the First, The Last, My Everything by Barry White, with honorable mention to Paul McCartney, my love.
- 53:25SPEAKER_19: We got it together, didn't we?
- 53:30SPEAKER_16: From his album Soul Seduction.
- 53:33SPEAKER_15: Soul, what?
- 53:34SPEAKER_15: Soul Seduction.
- 53:35SPEAKER_15: Oh he talks on every song, doesn't he?
- 53:38SPEAKER_15: Almost every song.
- 53:39SPEAKER_11: Well, I think that's like that's his thing.
- 53:41SPEAKER_11: Well, that well, when you listen to a Barry White song, it's like half song, half oration speech.
- 53:49SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 53:50SPEAKER_11: You know?
- 53:50SPEAKER_19: At least the other must have slipped more.
- 53:53SPEAKER_11: Because I don't I can't think of any uh Barry White song that he doesn't talk on.
- 53:59SPEAKER_19: Right?
- 54:00SPEAKER_11: I don't think it exists.
- 54:02SPEAKER_19: Nobody button.
- 54:03SPEAKER_19: I'm not complaining.
- 54:04SPEAKER_11: He's got that voice.
- 54:05SPEAKER_11: But he's got the voice, man.
- 54:06SPEAKER_11: You can't it's like it's like if James Earl Jones had made like albums, you would have been like, I don't care.
- 54:12SPEAKER_19: Right.
- 54:14SPEAKER_11: It's just awesome to listen to what was his honorable mention, Paul McCartney.
- 54:26SPEAKER_13: Uh my love.
- 54:27SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 54:28SPEAKER_13: I may have gone with that one.
- 54:31SPEAKER_13: You can't go wrong with Paul McCartney.
- 54:38SPEAKER_15: I get it though.
- 54:39SPEAKER_15: I get I get that why he picked this.
- 54:44SPEAKER_15: Alright.
- 54:46SPEAKER_15: What's Doug's pick?
- 54:47SPEAKER_11: Well, actually, I'm gonna do our judges.
- 54:48SPEAKER_11: Her judgeness.
- 54:49SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 54:49SPEAKER_11: Our judgeness.
- 54:51SPEAKER_11: She picked uh she so she wrote, and I thought of the perfect song for this week's question as soon as you read it.
- 54:58SPEAKER_11: Jason Moraz Love, well, she wrote Love is the answer, but the action then she was like, oops, it's love is still the answer.
- 55:05SPEAKER_11: So I was like, close enough.
- 55:08SPEAKER_11: So that was that was her choice.
- 55:10SPEAKER_15: Her choice.
- 55:11SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 55:12SPEAKER_15: And uh wonder which one she's gonna pick.
- 55:16SPEAKER_17: I don't believe she's in the running, but you know, hey, if she picks her own, she picks her own.
- 55:21SPEAKER_11: She's the judge.
- 55:21SPEAKER_11: I mean, I'm not gonna question it.
- 55:23SPEAKER_11: Well, she's already picked.
- 55:47SPEAKER_09: Why are we here?
- 55:51SPEAKER_09: To say uh hello and goodbye and disappear.
- 55:57SPEAKER_15: I get why she picked it up.
- 55:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:58SPEAKER_11: It's a nice song.
- 56:00SPEAKER_11: I like Jason Morris.
- 56:02SPEAKER_11: I especially liked his first album.
- 56:07SPEAKER_09: To learn how to master peace or master war.
- 56:14SPEAKER_09: There's only one answer that matters.
- 56:22SPEAKER_09: Even if your heart has been shattered.
- 56:30SPEAKER_09: Whatever you want, whatever you are after.
- 56:40SPEAKER_09: Love is still the answer.
- 56:48SPEAKER_09: Love is still the answer.
- 56:54SPEAKER_15: Yes, it is.
- 56:55SPEAKER_15: All you need is love.
- 56:56SPEAKER_15: All you need is love.
- 56:57SPEAKER_15: All you need is love.
- 56:59SPEAKER_15: Uh I like it.
- 57:00SPEAKER_15: What is uh what is yours?
- 57:02SPEAKER_11: Uh I went in a little bit different direction.
- 57:05SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 57:06SPEAKER_11: Mine is a nice F and ballad by Anthrax.
- 57:13SPEAKER_15: We need to uh censor this.
- 57:17SPEAKER_11: I don't think so.
- 57:18SPEAKER_11: No, I don't think it's a good idea.
- 57:34SPEAKER_16: Somebody recorded it.
- 57:45SPEAKER_15: Is that the only person that's ever wanted to be let me write it down differently.
- 57:51SPEAKER_15: Let me do that.
- 57:57SPEAKER_15: Okay, maybe this will be better.
- 57:59SPEAKER_15: Maybe this will be better.
- 58:01SPEAKER_15: There we go.
- 58:08SPEAKER_01: The most epic love song.
- 58:10SPEAKER_01: This is the most epic love song ever.
- 58:18SPEAKER_12: So if she gotta hit by a truck.
- 58:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yes, I can't explain the feelings when I first saw you.
- 58:31SPEAKER_05: We were so happy.
- 58:34SPEAKER_05: A lifetime of love, sweet on its time.
- 58:38SPEAKER_05: You always be mine.
- 58:44SPEAKER_05: With that play the fool.
- 58:48SPEAKER_05: I never meant to have you.
- 58:51SPEAKER_05: I sleep with all your friends.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Did we cover this?
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know.
- 58:58SPEAKER_05: We should know how we found ourselves.
- 59:12SPEAKER_15: I thought maybe like in our college tour.
- 59:15SPEAKER_11: We might have.
- 59:19SPEAKER_11: If if not, we should bring it back, right?
- 59:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 59:24SPEAKER_16: I forgot how epic this is.
- 59:26SPEAKER_16: This this is epic.
- 59:28SPEAKER_11: This is this is one of the greatest love songs ever written.
- 59:31SPEAKER_11: It really is, yeah.
- 59:45SPEAKER_05: A hot store full of pain.
- 59:51SPEAKER_05: But we found another game.
- 59:55SPEAKER_05: This time forever.
- 59:59SPEAKER_05: Two love prevails over road.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_06: She got hit by a truck.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_08: Joey, Joey, get me some tissue.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_10: I just love Scotty in at the back.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_10: Joey, Joey, give me some tissue.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_10: I forgot about that song.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_10: Oh my word.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_10: I love that song so much.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_15: Um, alright, so I'm not gonna you're not gonna like mine after our discussion earlier in the podcast.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_15: You're not gonna like mine.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_15: Uh because well you do.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_15: I didn't do anything.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_15: It's just when I think of epic love songs, it's between a man and a woman.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_15: Well and and you're probably burnt out on this song.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_15: But yeah, I knew it! Knew it.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_15: Come on.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_15: Lying beside you here in the dark, feeling your heartbeat with the bigger.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_15: Well, this is open arms.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_15: Softly you whisper, you're so sincere.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_15: How could our love be so blind?
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_15: No, I don't mind this one.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_15: Okay, yeah.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_08: Softly sincerely.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_08: How could I let be so blessed?
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_08: We sail on.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_15: We sailed on together, we drifted apart, and here you are by my side.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_15: So now I come to you with open arms, nothing to hide, believe what I say.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_15: Pouring out its heart.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_15: I mean, when I think of an epic love ballad, that's that's what comes to mind.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_15: Is Journey.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_11: Well, you really can't go wrong with that one.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_15: You can't.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_15: I wasn't gonna play faithfully.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_15: I wasn't?
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_12: No, honestly, I wasn't.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_12: Sure you win.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_12: I wasn't, I promise.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_12: I promise.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_15: Okay, so those are the those are the choices.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_15: So are we including her judgedness?
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_13: Uh well, we played it, so it's included.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_15: So I mean she then she already won.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_11: As far as I'm concerned.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_15: Uh so my first, my last, my everything from Barry White is uh cousin Larry's choice.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_15: Yes.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_15: Your choice is nice uh NFB.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_15: NFB from Anthrax.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_15: Um of course her judgedness is Love is Still the Answer from Jason Moraz.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_15: Yes.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_15: And mine is open arms from Journey.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_15: Correct.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_14: So there you go.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_15: There we go.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_15: Those are the choices.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_15: Let's do the future.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_11: Future Cleaning up the party bus.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_11: After a wild bachelorette party, you find a mixtape stuck between the cushions.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_11: Play a song from it.

- 1:03:43SPEAKER_15: So come on, Barbie, let's go party.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_11: Let's go party.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_16: Okay.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_16: Alright, that's uh that's mixtape for this week.

- 1:05:39SPEAKER_11: I'm a loser.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_16: I know.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_16: Tell me something I know.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_11: I know, right?
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_11: One of my favorite songs.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_11: Two events during 1964 were to have a profound effect on John's writing.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_11: The first was hearing Bob Dylan's music in Paris during January.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_11: When Paul acquired the free will in Bob Dylan.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_11: From an interviewer at a local radio station.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_11: Paul had heard Dylan's music before through his student friends in Liverpool, but it was the first time John had heard it.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_11: After hearing Freewheelin, which was Dylan's second album, they went out and bought his debut album, Bob Dylan.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_11: And according to John quote, for the rest of our three weeks, we didn't stop playing them.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_11: We all went potty on Dylan.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_11: Unquote.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_11: I don't know what that means.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_11: That's probably some British thing.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_11: The second event to affect John in a big way was meeting journalist Kenneth Alsop, a writer for the Daily Mail and regular interviewer on Tonight, BBC.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_11: Television news program.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_11: John first met him on March 23rd when he was interviewed for four minutes on Tonight about his book in his own right.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_11: And then again at Foil's Literary Luncheon at the Dorchester Hotel in London's Park Lane.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_11: Hall Sop was a handsome craggy Yorkshire man.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_11: Was 44 years old.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_11: Why why is this in here?
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_11: Does it really matter?
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_11: It just needs to fill the page.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_11: I guess.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_11: Alright, he had been in journalism since 1938 with a brief interruption caused by the war.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_11: No, really?
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_11: Was Britain in that war?
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_11: Jesus.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_11: During which he served in the Royal Air Force.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_11: It was in the Green Room, the hospitality suite, at the BBC's Lime Grove Studios on March 23rd that Al Sop first spoke to John about his songwriting, encouraging him not to hide his true feelings behind the usual banalities of the pop song.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_11: It was obvious to Alsop from reading his own in his own right that John had much more to give if he was prepared to open up to his deeper feelings.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_11: Years later, John told his confidant, Elliot Mintz, that this meeting marked a significant turning point in his oh.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_11: This is really long.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_11: I'm done.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_11: I thought this was really short.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_11: Um, I'll I'll read the actual part about the song.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_11: How about that?
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_11: Jeez.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_11: There's a lot of stuff.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_11: This is a I wow.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_11: Although recorded five months later, I'm a Loser was the first of this meeting with Alsap.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_11: It would be wrong to say it was a complete change of direction because from the beginning, John had written songs in which he exposed himself as lonely, sad, and abandoned, but in I'm a loser, he let a little more of his true self show.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_11: On the surface, another song about having lost a girl, but the lines which announce that beneath his mask he's wearing a frown suggest that he considers himself a loser in more ways than one.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_11: He's not just a loser in love, he feels like he's a loser in life.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_11: Um this would all be idle speculation if it wasn't for the fact that I'm a loser can now be seen as early stage in John's torturous journey towards candid self-res revelation in his songwriting.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_11: At the time, he was quick to credit the effect Bob Dylan had on I'm a loser.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_11: Quote, anyone who is in the best of his field, as Dylan is, is bound to influence people.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_11: Unquote.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_11: He said it one time.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_11: I wouldn't be surprised if we influenced him in some way.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_15: I bet they had.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_11: I bet that was Peter.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_11: So yeah, there was a lot there.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_11: There was a lot more than I thought it was.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_15: That's okay.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_11: I heard a lot of words, and it's hard.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_15: Words are hard.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_11: Not even crayon.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_15: All right.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_15: I have an album.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_11: It's good to have a goal.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_16: Let the guessing begin.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_11: I don't want to guess.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_11: Just tell me what it is.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_16: No.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_13: I mean God.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_10: Is it a band?
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_11: Rock band?
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_12: I was gonna play faithfully for you.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that'll help.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_11: Uh okay, so rock band high to popularity.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_11: Um eighties.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_11: Are they still around?
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_11: Um how many people in that band?
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_16: Uh I think uh originally double check and make sure that it's fine.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_16: Originally four.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_15: Um the only original member left in the band no longer plays with the band.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_11: Oh, is it foreigner?
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_15: Interesting how you got that right off.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_15: Yes.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_15: It is Foreigner.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_15: Foreigner! This is the album.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_15: Uh four.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_15: It's four! Okay.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_15: So this album was actually uh produced by Robert John Muttlang.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_15: Ah, layered guitar.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_15: All kinds of layered guitar.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_15: It was actually their biggest hit.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_11: Um, this is where all the big big songs came from.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_15: Well, of course, you know this one.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_15: Jukebox Hero was a big hit.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_15: Waiting for a girl like you.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_11: I always want to watch Footloose when I hear this song.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_11: This wasn't a Footloose.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_11: I didn't say it was.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_11: I just said I always want to watch Footloose when I hear this song.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_11: I don't know why.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_17: Just a statement of fact.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_17: Um are you sure it wasn't in Footloose?
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_11: I thought they play I thought they they were playing this in that that bar they went to to go dancing at.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_11: And then they got in the fight.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_16: No, I don't think so.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_16: Okay.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_16: But I still want to watch Footloose now.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_16: Hold on.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_16: I uh I I guess I should check.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_01: Um Footloose soundtrack.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_11: I I don't think it's on the soundtrack, but I I but I'm pretty sure they played it.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_15: Are you sure you're not thinking of a different uh song from that?
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_15: No?
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_15: Uh because there were some Almost Paradise.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_11: No?
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_11: Almost Paradise.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_11: No, no, no.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_11: I know that song.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_11: I know that song was in there, but uh uh.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_11: Pretty sure they were playing this in that bar.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_16: Oh, you are so right.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_16: Yes! Vindication!
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_15: Look, because the soundtrack is all right here, and there's there's nine songs on the soundtrack, 1998 15th anniversary collectors edition has four extra tracks, and one of them is waiting for doing that's why that's why I want to watch Footloose every time I hear this.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_15: I will never doubt you again.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_11: Not that I sometimes I know what I'm talking about.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_15: Uh let's see, another song that was a huge hit for this album.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_11: Great song.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_15: Urgent.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_15: Um And there's something about this song.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_15: This is uh is it Junior Wells?
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_15: Not Junior Wells that's playing the saxophone on this song.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_16: On this song?
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_16: I don't remember.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_16: You get a big one.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_15: Hold on.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_15: Junior Walker.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_15: Um remember Junior Walker's all-stars?
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_15: Um, so Junior Walker came in and did the solo.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_15: Which is an amazing saxophone solo.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_15: Absolutely.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_15: Um, there were some other songs on this that were released uh as singles.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_15: This one, believe it or not, was a single.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_15: See if you recognize this one.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_15: It's called Break It Up.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_11: I almost thought it was Carrie for a second.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it does sound like it, yeah.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_06: I lock myself away.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_16: They definitely have a sound.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_15: It's got a definite Of course this is original singer Lou Graham.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_15: Or Lou Grama Lou Grammatico.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_11: I think I think it's actually pronounced Lou Re.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_11: You have to blame that button bowl off the rubber.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_10: Think about it.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_11: And if I'm not mistaken, this album was recorded at the very famous Sound City studio.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_15: Uh, let's see.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_15: Mastered at Sterling Sound in New York.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_15: Thomas Dolby plays main synthesizers.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_15: Really?
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_15: I love I've always loved this name.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_15: Uh slide guitar played by Hugh McCracken.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_15: That poor guy.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_15: Uh let's see.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_15: Oh, and Lu Anne was also released uh from this album.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_15: What was I looking up?
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_15: Oh, where it was recorded.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_15: See.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_15: Um I don't see where it says anything.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_15: Well, that's it's in it's entirely possible.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_11: That's just stupid.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_11: That should be in there.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_15: It wasn't it's entirely possible it was recorded at Town City.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_15: This is Luann.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_15: I think those are the only singles.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_08: Don't give your love.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_08: Wait around for you after school.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_15: I don't think this one charted very high.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_11: I don't think so, because I don't remember.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_11: But I like it.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah, no, it's good.
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_15: Uh okay, so this is why I say um it it um I have a point of contention that this band is still around.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_11: Just because it nobody in the band actually was in the band?
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_15: Well to a degree, yes.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_15: Because I mean the You know, like Leonard Skinnard.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_15: Right?
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_15: Leonard Skinner.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_11: Well, that wasn't their fault.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_11: I know, no, no.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_11: They were killed in plane crashes.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_11: I know.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_11: I know any plane crashes.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_15: And and but but but some of the members, Gary Rosington, who wasn't killed, was in the band, so he's original.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_15: Um and Johnny Van Zant's uh his it was his brother.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_15: His brother or something.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_15: Donnie Donnie was his brother, wasn't it?
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_15: Something like that.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_15: Or Ronnie, I mean, sorry.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_15: Um and so he became the lead singer.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_15: Ricky Medlock was a guitar player, uh, and he joined the band shortly thereafter, I think.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_15: And he's not an original member, but he's been there for forty, fifty years, whatever it is.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_15: You know, and and and so the fact that they still tour, I get.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_15: You know.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_15: Um Lou Graham was the original lead singer.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_15: Then they then Lou left, and they got uh uh another guy, John Lou Reed.
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_15: Nope, not Lou Reed.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_15: Can you imagine Lou Reed in Foreigner?
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_15: That was sick.
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_11: Imagine if he ever did an album with Metallica.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_11: That would really suck.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_11: Glad that never happened.
- 1:19:49SPEAKER_15: So they replaced him with uh a guy for one album.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_15: Um because and it wasn't it was not a terrible album, but it just the the the chem chemistry wasn't there and they and it was not their it was probably one of their least successful albums.
- 1:20:05SPEAKER_15: I think it was called Unusual Heat.
- 1:20:07SPEAKER_15: Um and uh so they scanned him.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_15: And then they got Kelly Hansen, right?
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_15: Uh who sounded remarkably like Lou Graham.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_15: And he had been with them ever since.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_15: And, you know, Mick Jones was in the band, Jeff Pilson's in the band.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_15: Jeff Pilson has been the bass player in the band for twenty-five years, something like that.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_15: Um, and then there's uh there's other guys, and I'm not saying I'm not taking anything away from the band itself.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_15: But essentially it's a cover band now.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_15: Um and this you know, Foreigner announced I think we talked about this in the podcast, uh Kelly Hanson was not going to tour with them when they go to Europe because of a Yeah, he had some issue about you know getting into the into Europe.
- 1:20:59SPEAKER_15: Right, getting into Europe.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_15: And Foreigner are supposedly on their farewell tour.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_15: Right?
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_15: They announced that it was their farewell tour because Mickey Mick Jones doesn't sing with them anymore, probably play with them anymore.
- 1:21:11SPEAKER_15: So they were on their fell farewell tour, and now Kelly Hansen can't go to Europe.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_15: And Kelly Hansen just announced that he's leaving Foreigner.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:21:23SPEAKER_15: And they have a new lead singer that's taking over.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_15: Which means I don't think Foreigner's going away.
- 1:21:33SPEAKER_15: So this is this is their performance on The Voice the other night recently.
- 1:21:40SPEAKER_15: So this is Kelly Hansen singing.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_01: After 20 magical years funding this band, this will be my last year with Coroner.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_01: At the end of this summer, a new and great voice will sing these songs to you, my friend Luis Baldonado.
- 1:23:40SPEAKER_11: So that's both Louise and Kelly.
- 1:23:41SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:23:43SPEAKER_11: Wait, where did all those people come from, right?
- 1:23:47SPEAKER_11: What the?
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_02: What is going on?
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_15: Wait, watch, watch Kelly hit this note.
- 1:24:00SPEAKER_15: So after 20 years, Kelly Hansen, who's in his 60s, has decided He doesn't look it, man.
- 1:24:05SPEAKER_15: Because he can't he he's he he won't always be able to hit those notes and he wants to go out on top.
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_11: Apparently can't go to Europe, right?
- 1:24:14SPEAKER_15: For some unknown reason.
- 1:24:15SPEAKER_15: Luis Maldonado, I don't know how old he is, but he looks late 20s.
- 1:24:19SPEAKER_16: Yeah, early 30s.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_16: Uh and he's got a killer voice.
- 1:24:23SPEAKER_16: Yeah, he sounds great, man.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_15: Um But then you get into this whole thing like like KISS.
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_15: Remember the band?
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_15: Remember the band Kiss, Doug?
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_15: No, never heard of him at all, ever.
- 1:24:35SPEAKER_15: When they uh there was this whole thing where where the uh Paul and Gene had always said, Well, because of the makeup, we can just put other people in there.
- 1:24:44SPEAKER_15: Yeah, and the band could carry on.
- 1:24:45SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_15: And he's probably not wrong.
- 1:24:49SPEAKER_11: I mean, who's really gonna know the difference?
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_11: If you get people that look and sound the same, you can get away with it.
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_15: So so I and I like the fact because part of me says, get this guy in uh Luis Maldonado singing vocals for you, and just start a new band.
- 1:25:11SPEAKER_15: You know, and and do and do new music under a new band name.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_15: And then the other part of me is like, well then who's gonna play the foreigner songs that people love?
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_15: You know?
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_11: I mean Yeah, it's a very it's a it's a it's a razor edge.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_11: You know, you can't uh where do you go?
- 1:25:30SPEAKER_15: It's nice that you can say, I'm going to see Foreigner.
- 1:25:35SPEAKER_15: And you're gonna hear those songs.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_15: It's not gonna be by any of the original members.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_15: But it's will still be really good.
- 1:25:46SPEAKER_15: Oh.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_15: And still the songs will, you know, will sound really good.
- 1:25:50SPEAKER_15: So I don't know.
- 1:25:51SPEAKER_15: I'm on the fence about it.
- 1:25:52SPEAKER_11: I mean Yeah, it's it's it's uh it's you know.
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_11: What do you do?
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:25:57SPEAKER_11: You know, it's just the way it's it's nature, it's better than anything coming out now.
- 1:26:01SPEAKER_15: And they and they have Mick Jones' blessing.
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_15: I mean, Mick Jones, I think, picked this guy, Louis Moldonato.
- 1:26:06SPEAKER_15: Oh, sure.
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_15: You know and obviously he's got the chop, so he can do it.
- 1:26:10SPEAKER_14: He sounds a lot like Lou Graham's.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_14: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_11: I mean Lou Reed, sorry.
- 1:26:14SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:26:16SPEAKER_15: Um, I saw, by the way, I saw an um interview.
- 1:26:21SPEAKER_15: Um I think it was, I wonder if I could find.
- 1:26:24SPEAKER_15: It was just a snippet um of Kirk Hammett with with Ricky Auto.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_15: Um He was saying that.
- 1:26:47SPEAKER_15: Oh, I think this is it.
- 1:26:53SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:26:54SPEAKER_00: Metallico has always tried different things.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_00: We've always took a chance.
- 1:26:58SPEAKER_00: Even though sometimes they've failed horribly from a commercial standpoint.
- 1:27:04SPEAKER_00: Lulu, the album we did with Lou Reed, and also seeing Anger.
- 1:27:08SPEAKER_00: Those are really divisive.
- 1:27:09SPEAKER_00: I think stuff like that's important to have in your catalog.
- 1:27:12SPEAKER_00: You know, you want peaks and valleys, you want contrast.
- 1:27:15SPEAKER_00: It will makes it interesting.
- 1:27:16SPEAKER_00: If you have a catalog that's just perfect, people get bored of it.
- 1:27:19SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:27:20SPEAKER_00: You know, sometimes people want to get challenged by their favorite band.
- 1:27:23SPEAKER_00: The first three or four yes albums are brilliant, but then they took a freaking left turn into somewhere else.
- 1:27:30SPEAKER_00: And I loved it because it was challenging, right?
- 1:27:33SPEAKER_00: It forced me to listen even harder.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_00: Metallica is old.
- 1:27:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't think that's true.
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_11: But he's got a point.
- 1:27:41SPEAKER_16: He does have a point.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:27:43SPEAKER_11: They were just trying something and it failed miserably, and then Yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 1:27:47SPEAKER_16: But do you want your band to have a valley?
- 1:27:50SPEAKER_16: It's gonna happen.
- 1:27:51SPEAKER_15: I mean no, no, it's gonna happen.
- 1:27:53SPEAKER_16: But do you want it to have a valley?
- 1:27:56SPEAKER_15: You know, it's gonna happen.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_15: People want their favorite bands to have peaks and valleys.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_15: Nope.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_11: They don't, but they're gonna it's it's a it's a sad reality.
- 1:28:04SPEAKER_15: Absolutely.
- 1:28:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah, there's nothing you can do about it.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_15: No, I agree.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_15: So but I just thought that was kind of interesting that you had mentioned Lou Reed.
- 1:28:13SPEAKER_15: I saw that like yesterday.
- 1:28:15SPEAKER_11: So no, he's uh just uh I have I don't own that album.
- 1:28:19SPEAKER_11: I don't have any songs from that album.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_15: I I Lou Reed or the the the Lulu album?
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_15: The Lulu album.
- 1:28:25SPEAKER_15: I have nothing to do with that album.
- 1:28:26SPEAKER_15: Remember we had that at the radio station?
- 1:28:27SPEAKER_15: Yeah and we try we've tried to play it.
- 1:28:29SPEAKER_14: We tried to play it and it was terrible.
- 1:28:30SPEAKER_14: It's like two.
- 1:28:31SPEAKER_15: People would call and say, What are you doing?
- 1:28:33SPEAKER_11: What is this?
- 1:28:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:28:34SPEAKER_11: And we're like, as Metallica was reading there, like, hey you guys stop.
- 1:28:39SPEAKER_15: It's awful.
- 1:28:40SPEAKER_11: Play whiskey in a jarro.
- 1:28:43SPEAKER_11: I hated that.
- 1:28:44SPEAKER_11: I know, right?
- 1:28:45SPEAKER_11: It's not whiskey in a jarro.
- 1:28:47SPEAKER_11: It's whiskey in the jar.
- 1:28:50SPEAKER_11: Oh.
- 1:28:52SPEAKER_11: No oh.
- 1:28:53SPEAKER_11: That's just weird.
- 1:28:55SPEAKER_11: That's just that's just weird.
- 1:28:56SPEAKER_11: And you're too young.
- 1:29:00SPEAKER_16: Is that the is that the title?
- 1:29:02SPEAKER_16: That's just weird and you're too young?
- 1:29:03SPEAKER_16: Yes.
- 1:29:04SPEAKER_16: Okay.
- 1:29:04SPEAKER_15: That's just weird.
- 1:29:05SPEAKER_15: You're too young.
- 1:29:06SPEAKER_15: That's just weird.
- 1:29:07SPEAKER_15: You're too young.
- 1:29:07SPEAKER_11: That sounds like it was a should be like the beginning of a 50s, you know, song.
- 1:29:13SPEAKER_10: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:29:16SPEAKER_12: You're too young.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_12: Let's see, hold on, let's see.
- 1:29:18SPEAKER_16: Uh wait.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_16: Wait.
- 1:29:28SPEAKER_16: I'm overthinking it.
- 1:29:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you are Well that's just too weird and you're too young.
- 1:29:46SPEAKER_10: That's just so weird is and you are so dumb.
- 1:29:51SPEAKER_10: I don't even know where to go from here.
- 1:29:56SPEAKER_10: Cause it's just too weird and you're too young.
- 1:30:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:30:04SPEAKER_10: See?
- 1:30:05SPEAKER_10: Totally fit.
- 1:30:08SPEAKER_10: Totally fit, man.
- 1:30:09SPEAKER_16: Totally.
- 1:30:10SPEAKER_16: Totally, man.
- 1:30:11SPEAKER_16: Totally, man.
- 1:30:12SPEAKER_16: Totally.
- 1:30:13SPEAKER_16: Alright, uh, that's it.
- 1:30:14SPEAKER_16: That's episode 244.
- 1:30:15SPEAKER_16: Why?
- 1:30:16SPEAKER_16: In the books.
- 1:30:17SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 1:30:18SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 1:30:19SPEAKER_07: Wow.
- 1:30:20SPEAKER_11: I know.
- 1:30:21SPEAKER_11: Well by Quick, didn't I?
- 1:30:22SPEAKER_11: Just like that.
- 1:30:25SPEAKER_11: I can't snap anymore.
- 1:30:28SPEAKER_11: Um, that's pathetic.
- 1:30:33SPEAKER_11: I can't snap anymore.
- 1:30:35SPEAKER_11: Let me try this again.
- 1:30:37SPEAKER_11: A little bit.
- 1:30:38SPEAKER_15: You know, I used to be able to do all of my fingers.
- 1:30:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I think I remember that.
- 1:30:42SPEAKER_11: You used to do that all the time.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_15: Like, just shut up! I used to be able to cross all my fingers.
- 1:30:49SPEAKER_15: Like I I I start here, I go behind my back and come back, and they'll all be crossed.
- 1:30:52SPEAKER_15: I can't do it anymore.
- 1:30:54SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:30:54SPEAKER_13: It's called arthritis.
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_13: It's called old age.
- 1:30:57SPEAKER_13: I can't even do it now.
- 1:30:58SPEAKER_13: It's like I can't even do it.
- 1:31:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I think I when I came in, I was telling you my freaking hand hurts still from Saturday night, and I'm just like, it's like Yeah.
- 1:31:09SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:31:10SPEAKER_11: All right, getting old sucks.
- 1:31:12SPEAKER_14: Yes, it does.
- 1:31:12SPEAKER_14: Because you're weird.
- 1:31:14SPEAKER_14: And you're too young.
- 1:31:15SPEAKER_14: No, you're too old.
- 1:31:16SPEAKER_14: You're too old.
- 1:31:17SPEAKER_11: That just sucks, and you're too old.
- 1:31:22SPEAKER_16: All right.
- 1:31:23SPEAKER_16: We'll uh we'll be back at you next week.
- 1:31:25SPEAKER_16: Enjoy.

- 1:31:28SPEAKER_16: Bye, everybody.
- 1:31:29SPEAKER_16: You suck.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_16: I'm a loser.

- 1:31:32SPEAKER_16: No, I'm a loser.
- 1:31:34SPEAKER_16: No, I'm a loser.
