- 0:00The pattern is no longer a pattern, it's a playbook.
- 0:04Australia has a leadership problem.
- 0:06Not a small 1, not an isolated one, but a national 1A problem
- 0:12where governments make reckless decisions, ignore warnings and
- 0:16then act shocked when the consequences explode in their
- 0:20faces. My name is Jay Fallon and thank
- 0:23you for listening to The Slippery Slope.
- 0:29With the red light. On I'm Just waiting for the
- 0:32Change. So I spoke about all of this in
- 0:37a previous episode. It was titled We Broke It, so
- 0:40now we Can fix it. Back then I was talking about
- 0:43the Queensland Police Service leadership decisions that drove
- 0:47officers out of the job. And then the same leaders, they
- 0:51stepped forward, pretending they were the ones who could fix it.
- 0:55But this isn't just a policing issue.
- 0:58This is a governing issue, a culture issue, a national
- 1:02leadership crisis. And now we're seeing the same
- 1:05failures play out in two areas at once.
- 1:09You've got housing policy and national security.
- 1:12So we've got a housing crisis that was built on a lie.
- 1:17The federal government promised 1.2 million homes.
- 1:22Big shiny number that made headlines, but there was a
- 1:26report that was released. This report was by the Build
- 1:30Skills Australia. This report exposed the truth.
- 1:34The workforce doesn't exist to build all these homes.
- 1:38The training pipeline doesn't exist.
- 1:41The regional capacity doesn't exist.
- 1:45The plan doesn't exist. This wasn't a housing strategy.
- 1:50It was a political sedative, a promise designed to calm the
- 1:54public, not to be delivered. And I've been speaking about the
- 1:59housing crisis. We've got so many homeless
- 2:02people throughout our nation, and government policy
- 2:06exacerbates the problem. And then comes Bondi.
- 2:11While the government was busy selling fantasy housing numbers,
- 2:15something far more serious was brewing.
- 2:18According to multiple reports, the Bondi Beach attack was
- 2:21followed by a rapid political response.
- 2:24You've got tougher hate crime laws, a national gun buyback,
- 2:28new restrictions on extremist symbols in speech, strong
- 2:33actions on paper. But here's the uncomfortable
- 2:36question. Why were these measures only
- 2:39urgent after the attack? Because before Bondi, the same
- 2:44government, they. For one, they allowed protests
- 2:47where openly anti-Semitic chants were reported. 2 They allowed
- 2:54hate speech to escalate in public spaces.
- 2:57Three, they allowed tensions to rise unchecked. 4 They funded
- 3:02religious leadership groups, including, as I spoke about, the
- 3:06Grand Mufti, who, despite the fact that he publicly called
- 3:12publicly called for jihad against the state of Israel,
- 3:16they still funded his leadership.
- 3:19These are not accusations. These are facts reported in the
- 3:22media and they raise legitimate questions about judgment,
- 3:26priorities and consistency. So now we've got contradiction
- 3:31that can't be ignored. After the Bondi attack, the
- 3:35government suddenly became the champion of stopping hate speech
- 3:40and then protecting communities and removing dangerous weapons
- 3:46and cracking down on extremism. But where was this urgency
- 3:51before the attack? Where was this leadership when
- 3:55anti-Semitic rhetoric was escalating at protests?
- 3:59Where was this leadership when community tensions were boiling
- 4:04over? Where was this leadership when
- 4:08controversial religious figures were receiving government
- 4:11funding? Again, these are not claims of
- 4:15causation. These are questions of
- 4:17responsibility. Because leadership isn't just
- 4:20about responding to crisis, it's about preventing them.
- 4:25We have a slippery slope of political failure.
- 4:30This is the same slope I exposed I spoke about in my QLD policing
- 4:35episode. Step 1, you ignore the warning
- 4:38signs. Step 2, you make decisions that
- 4:40inflamed the problem. Step three, you downplay the
- 4:44consequences. Step 4A, crisis erupts.
- 4:47Step 5, the same leadership steps forward with solutions.
- 4:52Solutions that make headlines, Solutions that expand and their
- 4:56power. Solutions that distract from the
- 4:59fact that their earlier decisions contributed to the
- 5:03environment in which the crisis occurred.
- 5:06This is not leadership. This is political damage
- 5:11control. So what do we need?
- 5:15Look, Scripture warns us about leaders who heal the wound of my
- 5:18people lightly saying peace. Peace when there is no peace.
- 5:23Announcing a gun buyback after a terror attack is not peace.
- 5:28Announcing new hate speech laws after years of ignoring rising
- 5:32tensions is not peace. Announcing 1.2 million homes
- 5:37when there is no workforce to build the homes is not peace.
- 5:41It is the illusion of peace. A Band-Aid over a bullet wound.
- 5:46Real leadership requires foresight, courage and
- 5:50accountability, not just press releases and press conferences.
- 5:56So the question that Australians must be asking, every Australian
- 6:02deserves an answer to Why does our government only act after
- 6:08the damage is done? Why do they ignore the warning
- 6:12signs? Why do they tolerate escalating
- 6:15tensions? Why do they fund controversial
- 6:19figures like the Grand Mufti to the to the sum of $27 million?
- 6:25Why do they allow hate speech to flourish publicly and then claim
- 6:29more moral authority after tragedy strikes?
- 6:34And why every single time do they present themselves as the
- 6:39solution to problems that grew under their watch?
- 6:46Listen, this isn't about the left side or the right side of
- 6:50politics. It's about leadership.
- 6:52And I believe we're actually being failed by either side of
- 6:55politics anyway. Australia doesn't just have a
- 6:58housing crisis. Australia doesn't just have a
- 7:01security crisis. Australia has a leadership
- 7:05crisis. We have a crisis of
- 7:09accountability. We have a crisis of courage.
- 7:12We have a crisis of truth. As I've said before, what is
- 7:17truth? Our leadership in Australia
- 7:20doesn't seem to understand what truth is.
- 7:24So until this changes, we will keep seeing the same cycle.
- 7:29The cycle is neglect, escalation, crisis, political
- 7:33theatre. We deserve better and it's time
- 7:37we start demanding it. Of course, this is all my
- 7:42opinion. Please let me know what you
- 7:45think. Please give me a like and share.
- 7:47I'm Jay Fallon. Thank you for listening to the
- 7:49Slippery Slope They. Just feel the desire they will
- 7:54take me higher. I'm on fire because.
- 7:59Nothing's. Gonna bring me down.
- 8:15And nothing 's going to stop me now, and nothing's going to hold
- 8:24me down. Got my eye on the eyes.
- 8:28Got my side of the clouds.
