- 0:52Speaker 2: Let's get right into the business. What up, y'all? I
- 0:55Speaker 2: am your host, Vegas and Debts.
- 0:57Speaker 1: It's hip Hop Now Podcast, say podcast specifically designed to
- 1:00Speaker 1: keep you caught out on all things hip hop, music
- 1:04Speaker 1: and culture that happened throughout the week. Big shadow to

- 1:13Speaker 1: years in audio form. Shout out to you for sticking
- 1:16Speaker 1: in with a brother through the trials and tribulations, but
- 1:19Speaker 1: we made it right. Also shout out to the members
- 1:23Speaker 1: right here on the YouTube channel for hip Hop Now
- 1:26Speaker 1: Pod if you would like to become a member and
- 1:29Speaker 1: maybe you're like, how you do that?
- 1:31Speaker 2: And I don't know what that means either.
- 1:34Speaker 1: The link is in the description of this episode, not
- 1:37Speaker 1: only on YouTube, but also wherever you get your audio
- 1:42Speaker 1: version of this show.
- 1:45Speaker 2: And Just Real Quick.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Last week released a new episode in the series celebrating
- 1:53Speaker 1: the year nineteen ninety six.
- 1:56Speaker 2: It's been thirty years.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I chose twelve albums, talking about each album once a
- 2:05Speaker 1: month with a special guest. The latest episode features the
- 2:09Speaker 1: Homie Il fam of Black Wrestling podcast and we talked
- 2:14Speaker 1: about day La Soul's The Stakes is High album, classic
- 2:18Speaker 1: album to most, but we kind of talked about not
- 2:21Speaker 1: only the music, but we talked about the time. We
- 2:25Speaker 1: talked about the year, the competitive year that was nineteen
- 2:28Speaker 1: ninety six, along with a few other things with day
- 2:32Speaker 1: La Soul being one of his favorite groups and you know,
- 2:36Speaker 1: just that time. So it's a nice way for a
- 2:39Speaker 1: person like yourself who maybe he was around in ninety six,
- 2:43Speaker 1: maybe you have fond memories of that album. Maybe he
- 2:47Speaker 1: was around ninety six, you didn't really listen to that album.
- 2:50Speaker 1: You want to know should you go back or maybe
- 2:53Speaker 1: you weren't even born, but you like what you heard
- 2:57Speaker 1: from day La Soul recently. This is an episode for
- 3:02Speaker 1: you to go check out and get a lot of
- 3:04Speaker 1: information about a lot of information, a lot of context
- 3:09Speaker 1: about that album in that time.
- 3:11Speaker 2: And this is the third episode.
- 3:13Speaker 1: So there's been two other episodes released right, a double
- 3:18Speaker 1: episode that features Tupac's All Eyes on Me and mcavelli
- 3:22Speaker 1: with the Homie ARP and then also another episode that
- 3:26Speaker 1: I released with Angelica talking about the Fujis the Score
- 3:32Speaker 1: and that time and hip hop and again each month
- 3:35Speaker 1: we're gonna do another one.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Coming up in.
- 3:38Speaker 1: April will be a trop called Quest's Beats Rhymes in Light,
- 3:42Speaker 1: so at the end of the video, a car to
- 3:46Speaker 1: pop up. Also, there are many ways or you can
- 3:49Speaker 1: just subscribe to the channel and hit the notification button
- 3:52Speaker 1: to know any time of video goals live. But again,
- 3:56Speaker 1: celebrating ten years of Hip Hop Now podcast, I got
- 3:59Speaker 1: some joint for y'all.
- 4:00Speaker 2: You know, got some content.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So with that being said, big shout out to hip
- 4:04Speaker 1: HOPDX dot Com, Complex, Twitter, and a couple of places
- 4:11Speaker 1: where I'm getting some of these stories from.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Let's get right into the business stuff.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Same mac Homie and Black Thought are releasing an album together.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell y'all like this, I didn't see this
- 4:25Speaker 1: one coming.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Now.
- 4:26Speaker 1: We knew that Black Thought was teasing a brand new album,
- 4:31Speaker 1: solo album I believe with Danger Mouse that we talked about,
- 4:36Speaker 1: but now here's something that's more of a surprise. This
- 4:41Speaker 1: is on Hip hopdx dot com. It says Black Thought
- 4:43Speaker 1: and Mac Homie, two of the game's most dangerous mcs,
- 4:47Speaker 1: are joining forces for a full length album. Mac Mock
- 4:52Speaker 1: confirmed the news in his latest newsletter letter, telling fans
- 4:56Speaker 1: I have a few projects in the chamber. One if
- 5:00Speaker 1: August Fanning, I don't know who that is, one with
- 5:03Speaker 1: roz g and last but not least, Black Hommie, and
- 5:07Speaker 1: that's the joint with Black Thought. Now I'm trying to
- 5:11Speaker 1: see there's some sort of release date, but I don't
- 5:15Speaker 1: really see that or release month.
- 5:18Speaker 2: But I think that's interesting.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I don't know what an album with those two mcs
- 5:28Speaker 1: would sound like because they are two very different emces. Right,
- 5:33Speaker 1: Black Thought will be thought as is Rapidy Rap. For
- 5:37Speaker 1: you knew people who just discovered him because of a
- 5:40Speaker 1: high ninety seven freestyle Relax, Okay, go listen to some
- 5:45Speaker 1: roots albums that you probably never heard since you just
- 5:49Speaker 1: found out about Black Thought. But you know, he's considered
- 5:53Speaker 1: like rapidy rap, you know, even when he's talking about
- 5:56Speaker 1: something real, you know, technical word play and stuff like that.
- 6:01Speaker 2: And mak Hommy is more.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Laid back, you know, more style over you know wordplay,
- 6:10Speaker 1: so to speak, and he has some wordplay. So you're
- 6:12Speaker 1: not talking about an album where both MC's are identical,
- 6:19Speaker 1: not identical, but have similar styles that will mesh well together.
- 6:24Speaker 1: But sometimes that's not the only way two styles can
- 6:28Speaker 1: mesh well together. Sometimes maybe Black thoughts style of wordplay
- 6:34Speaker 1: will compliment my comedy's laid back styles.
- 6:38Speaker 2: So we don't know. We'll see what it would sound like.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I'm obviously a black fan since the roots mak Hommie.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I'm kind of hit and miss on certain joints. Some
- 6:53Speaker 1: albums he put out I really liked others. I'm like,
- 6:57Speaker 1: what's the difference. So I'm curious, But I'm definitely gonna
- 7:03Speaker 1: anticipate it because you're talking about two quality artists and
- 7:09Speaker 1: them coming together.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Is interested, So we'll see what it sounds like.
- 7:13Speaker 1: What do you think? Are you a fan of either?
- 7:15Speaker 1: You know, does this collaboration black black homy Hommi? But
- 7:21Speaker 1: I forget what it's called. I think it's called black homy.
- 7:26Speaker 2: You know?
- 7:26Speaker 1: Are you interested in this collaboration? Leave your comments in
- 7:30Speaker 1: a comments section below. We can talk about it next.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Jiggerman Sean Carter.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Hove.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Jay Z is officially outside in twenty twenty six. We're
- 7:47Speaker 1: not talking about a new album unfortunately, but you know,
- 7:52Speaker 1: I have some speculation regarding that. So if you don't know,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and I have an episode coming up about this is
- 8:00Speaker 1: the thirtieth anniversary, well June to be exact, June twenty
- 8:05Speaker 1: twenty six is the thirtieth anniversary of jay Z's debut
- 8:09Speaker 1: album Reasonable Doubt. I got an episode coming up in
- 8:14Speaker 1: June talking all about that time and that album, including
- 8:20Speaker 1: me still owning the original CD with the original cover
- 8:24Speaker 1: that doesn't include the bonus songs that were added on
- 8:28Speaker 1: the Deaf Jam version that kind of superseded, you know,
- 8:34Speaker 1: the original. But you know, I've had some speculation earlier
- 8:41Speaker 1: this year of jay Z releasing a new album. I
- 8:43Speaker 1: knew he would celebrate his debut. I think it makes
- 8:47Speaker 1: sense to drop a new album maybe in the fall.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And there's a possibility, right because if June, well, i'll
- 8:58Speaker 1: say possibility if June is the anniversary of his debut
- 9:05Speaker 1: and he has and this is why I say he's outside.
- 9:08Speaker 1: He has two big shows planned right, one being he's
- 9:13Speaker 1: headlining the Roots Picnic right which is a showcase that
- 9:18Speaker 1: the Roots put on in Philly that's usually star studied,
- 9:21Speaker 1: but this year jay Z is the top dog, you know,
- 9:25Speaker 1: He's the headliner. And then in I believe July. Let
- 9:31Speaker 1: me just make sure, I think. Yeah, in July one weekend,
- 9:38Speaker 1: he's going to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Reasonable Doubt,
- 9:42Speaker 1: but also the twenty fifth anniversary of The Blueprint, and
- 9:48Speaker 1: the Blueprints anniversary, as you may or may not know,
- 9:53Speaker 1: is actually in September because it released on September eleventh,
- 9:57Speaker 1: two thousand and one, Yes, same day, and he's still
- 10:02Speaker 1: sold which is crazy. But it's going to take place
- 10:07Speaker 1: at Yankee Stadium. Very dope show, I think. As a
- 10:13Speaker 1: fan of jay Z, I know the tickets are going
- 10:15Speaker 1: to be expensive, so I'm not going. Also, I'm an
- 10:18Speaker 1: old man, y'all. Like I don't do too much stand
- 10:21Speaker 1: in that shows. Like I'll lean on something with my drink.
- 10:24Speaker 1: You know, I might sit down a little bit, you know.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I'll stand up for the joints I like, especially if
- 10:28Speaker 1: everybody else standing up.
- 10:29Speaker 2: But yeah, I'll be doing much standing, y'all.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Like if the mosh pit, Now that ain't that's not Vegas,
- 10:35Speaker 1: not anymore.
- 10:37Speaker 2: But it should be a really dope show, but you
- 10:40Speaker 2: would think.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Milestone's like this for some of his biggest albums in
- 10:45Speaker 1: his career, and the thirst that has to be out
- 10:49Speaker 1: there for jay Z fans to get some sort of
- 10:53Speaker 1: new album because his last album was four forty four
- 10:56Speaker 1: and if I'm not mistaken, that be pasted it like
- 11:01Speaker 1: fifth anniversary.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I don't know where that is.
- 11:03Speaker 1: You can lead that in a common section, but that
- 11:06Speaker 1: was a while ago, and jay Z never really said, oh,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be making no more music.
- 11:11Speaker 2: He just has it.
- 11:13Speaker 1: So I think there's an opportunity at the end of
- 11:17Speaker 1: this year for him to drop something new, especially considering
- 11:21Speaker 1: the fact that old school artists are thriving. Maybe not
- 11:27Speaker 1: so much in sales, but you know, that's just not
- 11:30Speaker 1: what it is anyway. But as far as you know,
- 11:34Speaker 1: popularity and like jay Z doing these shows has already
- 11:39Speaker 1: commanded a lot of the top stories, including mine, just
- 11:44Speaker 1: off of him doing shows and releasing the original single
- 11:48Speaker 1: to reasonable doubt and this whole build up, and he
- 11:52Speaker 1: also released I believe he released another rare single from
- 11:58Speaker 1: one of his albums also, So.
- 12:02Speaker 2: It's either one or two.
- 12:03Speaker 1: He's either or both, right, He's either just using this
- 12:07Speaker 1: year because there's a couple of milestones in his career
- 12:10Speaker 1: to do special things for the fans, right, I'll definitely
- 12:17Speaker 1: keep my eye out for some reasonable doubt Vinyl. That's
- 12:21Speaker 1: the reason why I haven't purchased it yet, because I'm like,
- 12:24Speaker 1: he gonna do something with the Vinyl, considering everything else
- 12:27Speaker 1: that's happened with you know, anniversaries of great albums and just.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Releases, like look what they did with the clips.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Like, there's probably gonna be some ill reasonable doubt of
- 12:41Speaker 1: Vinyl to drop not paying one hundred dollars for h'im
- 12:43Speaker 1: just be real, now, No, I don't do that if
- 12:49Speaker 1: if it looks ill enough, and I may go fifty,
- 12:53Speaker 1: but beyond that, come on, man, it's wax.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Okay, it's wax. Uh.
- 13:00Speaker 1: But I feel like there's probably room for an album
- 13:04Speaker 1: either at the end of the year or to be
- 13:07Speaker 1: teased for early twenty twenty seven.
- 13:10Speaker 2: So we'll see how it all plays out.
- 13:13Speaker 1: But again, I have an episode coming out in June
- 13:18Speaker 1: on the release date the original release date of Reasonable Doubt,
- 13:24Speaker 1: to commemorate the year. My guest is my homide Javon Johnson.
- 13:28Speaker 1: We chop it up. He was my college roommate and
- 13:31Speaker 1: all of that. So we have a really personal story
- 13:37Speaker 1: with that album that not only involves us as fans
- 13:40Speaker 1: of hip hop, as fans of jay Z, but just
- 13:43Speaker 1: the time and very early jay Z stories at Morgan
- 13:48Speaker 1: State University. So that's definitely available for you to hit
- 13:53Speaker 1: that notification bell and be notified when it goes live
- 13:57Speaker 1: in June.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And lastly, so.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I just wanted to take you know, some brief time,
- 14:08Speaker 1: not too long of an episode because I'm trying to
- 14:10Speaker 1: shorten episodes anyway, but just talk real quick about artificial
- 14:17Speaker 1: intelligence as it relates to hip hop videos. Now, I'm
- 14:24Speaker 1: all in the the AI bag, not making like silly stuff,
- 14:29Speaker 1: but I've used it here and there, Like my logo
- 14:33Speaker 1: as an example. My logo is AI art, but it's
- 14:38Speaker 1: literally art based off of seven photos of me at
- 14:43Speaker 1: different stages of my life to create one photo of me.
- 14:47Speaker 1: So when I look at it, I know what photos
- 14:49Speaker 1: I'm looking at, the polls, the face, my hair, my
- 14:53Speaker 1: like there's even a photo.
- 14:55Speaker 2: That I use where I was like.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Ten ten years old, maybe that's also there, and I
- 15:02Speaker 1: just kind of use that in.
- 15:03Speaker 2: A way to create the logo along with some prompts. Right.
- 15:08Speaker 1: And then if you watch the video version of this podcast,
- 15:12Speaker 1: you see that early AI art where the videos transforming
- 15:18Speaker 1: my logo into all these different things. Some things don't
- 15:21Speaker 1: even make sense, you know, hand disappeared, hand go into
- 15:24Speaker 1: each other whatever.
- 15:25Speaker 2: It was just more of a.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Visual representation of the intro basically and the types of
- 15:34Speaker 1: things I talk about here on my podcast.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:37Speaker 1: So for me, it was more about using AI to
- 15:40Speaker 1: do something abstract. I know exactly how to use AI specifically,
- 15:47Speaker 1: not just hey man, make me look funny like I'm
- 15:50Speaker 1: on stage, like I don't do that dumb shit, Okay,
- 15:53Speaker 1: I don't, all right, not that it's not entertaining and
- 15:56Speaker 1: funny sometimes, but you know what I mean, I kind
- 15:59Speaker 1: of use it to get things. I use it as
- 16:04Speaker 1: a tool, right, because that's what AI is. It's a tool.
- 16:07Speaker 1: That's how it should be used as a tool to
- 16:09Speaker 1: enhance or help you with something, you know what I mean.
- 16:14Speaker 1: But in recent years, and yeah, I've all seen it,
- 16:20Speaker 1: I'll just say a couple of names, Ray kuon Ghosts,
- 16:24Speaker 1: the Woo in general fifty.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Most recently, they all used AI in a.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Way to create videos that, in my opinion, are just
- 16:40Speaker 1: weird because this is the difference, right, Some people like
- 16:44Speaker 1: Ray Kuan's like shout out to the Homiok. We was
- 16:47Speaker 1: talking about this, but Ray Kwan, when he was dropping
- 16:49Speaker 1: his last album, The Emperor's New Clothes, he had this
- 16:56Speaker 1: like bear werewolf version of himself, like shape shifting it
- 17:04Speaker 1: like it was just this scary video. But you could
- 17:07Speaker 1: tell it was Ai because it really didn't have any
- 17:11Speaker 1: rhyme or reason. It just didn't mix. It was just
- 17:14Speaker 1: things happening because it was cool because we made it
- 17:17Speaker 1: and Ai did it. And then you have another contrast
- 17:22Speaker 1: like fifty cent or even the Woo situation. But let's
- 17:26Speaker 1: just say with fifty cent with the song he had
- 17:28Speaker 1: with Max B. And at first, at first it just
- 17:33Speaker 1: looks like a video fifty.
- 17:36Speaker 2: And Max B are in the car, but then you realize,
- 17:38Speaker 2: oh it's not.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Now they used it a little bit better than what
- 17:45Speaker 1: I was talking about with that Ray Kwan video, right,
- 17:49Speaker 1: And I know maybe he wanted to be bear ware
- 17:52Speaker 1: for whatever.
- 17:52Speaker 2: It just it just was weird. It didn't make any sense.
- 17:56Speaker 2: But Fifty's video is not that much better because cause
- 18:00Speaker 2: after a certain point, you realize you're just looking at
- 18:04Speaker 2: a bunch of prompts, and that's the difference. Right.
- 18:09Speaker 1: It's one thing to use AI as a tool to
- 18:12Speaker 1: enhance the message of your video or whatever it is
- 18:16Speaker 1: you're trying to convey, versus just putting in prompts and
- 18:22Speaker 1: not fine tuning those prompts and bringing all of this
- 18:26Speaker 1: footage together to create something that makes sense within the context.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Of the record.
- 18:32Speaker 1: You're just seeing what It's almost like we're watching somebody
- 18:37Speaker 1: experiment with the software while the music's playing, and music
- 18:42Speaker 1: videos don't typically.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Work like that.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And I know why they're doing it because it costs
- 18:47Speaker 1: way less, way less to hire somebody who knows how
- 18:51Speaker 1: to use this software to just go and create and
- 18:57Speaker 1: then tweak. But I just feel like the tweaking isn't
- 19:02Speaker 1: refined yet for everybody. Some are just doing it, and
- 19:08Speaker 1: most of the time I just wind up scrolling right
- 19:11Speaker 1: past those types of videos because it's just like, ah,
- 19:16Speaker 1: this is kind of whack, Like you know, at some point,
- 19:20Speaker 1: like here's an example, the video could start out with,
- 19:26Speaker 1: you know, let's just say Methid man walking down the
- 19:29Speaker 1: street and rapping, and it looks like Methi man and
- 19:31Speaker 1: maybe an angle hair and their face kind of looks
- 19:34Speaker 1: off when he turns slightly, but you know, not agregious.
- 19:37Speaker 1: So you're like, yeah, I kind of like this, and
- 19:39Speaker 1: let's just say everything is burning in the background. It's
- 19:42Speaker 1: like this, this is alright, this is a good use
- 19:45Speaker 1: of AI. But then at some point then he just
- 19:48Speaker 1: flies into the sky, no rhyme or reason, and then
- 19:55Speaker 1: you're just off to a AI randomness.
- 20:00Speaker 2: That's what I'm talking about.
- 20:01Speaker 1: It's almost like, man if y'all gonna use this, make
- 20:05Speaker 1: it make sense. Now here's something that's made sense to me.
- 20:10Speaker 1: And I think it's about to be oversaturated because it's
- 20:14Speaker 1: the one thing that's worth watching being a part of AI.
- 20:21Speaker 1: But I've seen like claymation style videos of songs and
- 20:28Speaker 1: even I guess you could say anime style videos of
- 20:33Speaker 1: songs from the past that never had videos that I'm like,
- 20:38Speaker 1: that's how you do it, because they felt more like
- 20:42Speaker 1: a direct interpretation of what was being said in the song,
- 20:47Speaker 1: and nothing random would happen, nobody's hand turning into a
- 20:51Speaker 1: gun because you didn't type in the right prop in
- 20:54Speaker 1: order to get it right, you know, with AI, so
- 20:58Speaker 1: you just let it happen.
- 21:01Speaker 2: No, these are actually.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Good, like they had this one I shared on this
- 21:07Speaker 1: channel of biz Marky's uh the business going off and
- 21:11Speaker 1: it's clay mation and it's it's almost like a video
- 21:15Speaker 1: that biz Markey would have done back in the day
- 21:18Speaker 1: for that song, Like if the technology existed.
- 21:22Speaker 2: That makes sense.
- 21:24Speaker 1: So I don't feel like rappers using AI for video,
- 21:28Speaker 1: especially which is cost effective.
- 21:31Speaker 2: And I don't blame some of them.
- 21:35Speaker 1: But there has gonna The technology is going to improve,
- 21:41Speaker 1: but they have to. They have to do better with
- 21:45Speaker 1: how they interpret these songs using AI and video, because
- 21:52Speaker 1: there's a turn going around the Internet called.
- 21:56Speaker 2: AI slop that required video.
- 22:00Speaker 1: It was AI slot, it was it was just I
- 22:03Speaker 1: didn't know what was happening. I know, Oh, I'm changing
- 22:05Speaker 1: into a bad web well thing with the part and
- 22:09Speaker 1: the chain.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 22:10Speaker 1: It was just terrible and I liked the album a lot.
- 22:15Speaker 1: But I think the more sophisticated the software gets, the
- 22:23Speaker 1: better those that know how to use it even on
- 22:26Speaker 1: this ground level or will be at it. And I
- 22:30Speaker 1: think at one point we won't be able to tell
- 22:34Speaker 1: the difference. It might be the preference, you know, like
- 22:39Speaker 1: watching a regular video.
- 22:41Speaker 2: With just regular humans might not be that good. But
- 22:50Speaker 2: what gets lost is you know a director, filmmaker extras.
- 22:58Speaker 2: You know, little one hundred dollars.
- 23:00Speaker 1: You ain't gonna get that little one hundred dollars for
- 23:02Speaker 1: being in the background dancing because we don't do it.
- 23:06Speaker 2: We just AI.
- 23:06Speaker 1: We just create a person or people to dance in
- 23:10Speaker 1: the background. We don't have to pay all of them
- 23:11Speaker 1: one hundred dollars a piece or whatever. We could just
- 23:14Speaker 1: create it. That's kind of the downside of it. But
- 23:20Speaker 1: if you're a director or maybe you are good with AI,
- 23:28Speaker 1: that's a particular that's a job. That's a job, and
- 23:32Speaker 1: especially if you're really good at it as it improves,
- 23:36Speaker 1: because this is clear that there are potential clients for
- 23:39Speaker 1: you out there that they don't know what they do
- 23:43Speaker 1: and they want the good stuff. So we'll see. How
- 23:48Speaker 1: do you feel about AI and music videos?
- 23:52Speaker 2: Do you like them?
- 23:53Speaker 1: Do you think in time they will get better? Leave
