- 1:33Speaker 2: It's time now, Paul.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Johnny Dollar.
- 1:40Speaker 4: This is very winters at Master's Insurance and Trust.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Oh hi, baris sure, Johnny, because.
- 1:45Speaker 4: We don't usually have trouble with our accounts.
- 1:47Speaker 3: You mean you didn't until now?
- 1:49Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I'm fraid that's about the size of it,
- 1:52Speaker 4: and this time it's bad. Trumble.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Tell me on.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Simplex Tackle Company, Johnny over.
- 1:56Speaker 5: In Dan Murray Fishing Tackle. That's right, I'll come. I
- 1:59Speaker 5: never heard them a.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Little small outfit to kind of glorified partnership.
- 2:04Speaker 3: What's that mean?
- 2:05Speaker 4: What's owned by nine men? One of them Hanley Thomas's president.
- 2:09Speaker 4: The others are secretary treasurer and a flock of vice president.
- 2:12Speaker 3: So what's happened?
- 2:13Speaker 4: The nine of them, plus the twenty or thirty workers
- 2:16Speaker 4: of the plant were all covered by a group life
- 2:18Speaker 4: insurance deal.
- 2:19Speaker 3: And listen, yeah, we've just had.
- 2:21Speaker 4: To pay off on three holicies in a row.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Oh that's too bad. But why call on me?
- 2:26Speaker 4: Because Johnny, why those three deaths were all murders.
- 2:37Speaker 6: Wob Bailey and the Exciting Adventures of the Man with
- 2:40Speaker 6: the Action Packed Expenserve caud America's fabulous Freeliance Insurance.
- 2:43Speaker 5: Investigators, Truly Johnny Dollar, and now act one of yours,
- 2:52Speaker 5: Truly Johnny Dollar, expense accounts submitted by Special Investigator Johnny
- 3:10Speaker 5: Dollar the Master's Insurance and Trust Company Home Office, Hartford, Connecticut,
- 3:14Speaker 5: following us an account of expenses incurred during my investigation
- 3:17Speaker 5: of the ugly pattern matter expense account at a one
- 3:25Speaker 5: a dollar even taxi the Burry Winner's office at Master's
- 3:28Speaker 5: where I hoped he could give me something more to
- 3:30Speaker 5: work on than he had over the phone. And you
- 3:32Speaker 5: know something, as it turned out, he gave me a
- 3:34Speaker 5: lot more than he thought he did.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Police.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Sure, they've been working on these murders, Johnny, but they
- 3:40Speaker 5: haven't come up with anything except the theory that one
- 3:42Speaker 5: man is behind them all. Why very Because the victims
- 3:45Speaker 5: have all been members of the Simplex Tackle Company. Well,
- 3:48Speaker 5: but because they've all occurred within a month, because each
- 3:51Speaker 5: of them occurred on a Wednesday pattern. Huh, that's right.
- 3:56Speaker 5: And also, Johnny, because there's been no apparent reason for
- 3:59Speaker 5: any of them. Have the police found anything, nothing, same
- 4:03Speaker 5: kind of weapon used in each case?
- 4:05Speaker 3: No.
- 4:06Speaker 5: The first was a VP named Adams run over by
- 4:09Speaker 5: a car. Sure it was an accidental, the police say no.
- 4:12Speaker 5: The second, John Bowers, was strangled and Frank Dalwars was
- 4:16Speaker 5: shot in his own home of there, I mean in
- 4:19Speaker 5: the way they occurred. Apparently not, but Hanley Thomas and
- 4:23Speaker 5: the police don't agree.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Thomas is president of Simplex, she.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Said, and a real financial wizard, used to be a promoter.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Not much ethics, but a sharp businessman. As a friend
- 4:32Speaker 5: or a partner, I imagine he's well, he's a fine man. Here,
- 4:37Speaker 5: I'll give you a complete list of the officers of
- 4:39Speaker 5: the company, their rank and their salary. Well, I don't
- 4:43Speaker 5: know exactly what good that will. Here you are and
- 4:46Speaker 5: this is a list of the employees. Have those employees?
- 4:48Speaker 5: Alvin checked down Sergeant Dennis over there at homicide made
- 4:52Speaker 5: quite a point of it, so did mister Thomas. Oh
- 4:54Speaker 5: why don't I run over there and talk with them?
- 4:57Speaker 5: And of the Danbury police. Yeah, I think you'd better,
- 4:59Speaker 5: and John me, the sooner the better. Why do you
- 5:02Speaker 5: say that the pattern? There are still six officers left
- 5:05Speaker 5: in that company, That is, six were still alive. Item
- 5:11Speaker 5: two another buck for a cab back to my apartment.
- 5:14Speaker 5: There I picked up my own car, and from here
- 5:16Speaker 5: on end the charge will be for mileage except for
- 5:19Speaker 5: Adam three four and a quarter for tank of mobile gas.
- 5:22Speaker 3: It was almost noom.
- 5:23Speaker 5: By the time, I'd covered the sixty ydd miles of
- 5:25Speaker 5: the simplex factory on the far edge of Danbury, so
- 5:28Speaker 5: my surprise was quite a plant, new and modern in
- 5:30Speaker 5: every way. A receptionist took my card. A few minutes
- 5:34Speaker 5: later I was ushered into the office of Hanley Thomas.
- 5:36Speaker 3: President.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Oh, this is a terrible thing. Adams, Bowers, Frank Dowbers
- 5:41Speaker 5: all within a few weeks. Verry Winters, back in Hartford,
- 5:44Speaker 5: seems to think these murders have all been the work
- 5:46Speaker 5: of one man Polish and I concur in that theory's
- 5:50Speaker 5: been the sort of pattern followed with the crazy killer,
- 5:52Speaker 5: but not an actual method. Miss Thomas, Oh no, I'll
- 5:55Speaker 5: grant you that's true for our accident strangling pistol shot.
- 5:59Speaker 5: But they were done by someone who must have been
- 6:01Speaker 5: very permitted with his victim. How do you mean, someone
- 6:04Speaker 5: who knew, for instance, that Ben Adams took a long
- 6:06Speaker 5: walk alone each night, he knew the route that he took.
- 6:10Speaker 5: Same thing applied to the second victim. John Bowers always
- 6:12Speaker 5: drove to work through the little woods. There he was
- 6:14Speaker 5: stopped and strangled. Frank Delvers always stayed at home alone
- 6:18Speaker 5: on Wednesday nights while his wife was out laying bridge.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Someone broke in on him. Huh had the police checked that?
- 6:23Speaker 5: Well, it was someone he must have let in, In
- 6:25Speaker 5: other words, someone he knew.
- 6:27Speaker 3: That's a possibility. I suppose. I understand you've checked.
- 6:31Speaker 5: On all your employees, yesh, right off the bat, as
- 6:34Speaker 5: much as we, or rather as much as the police could.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Any particular reason to suspect one of them.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Well, only because they were all in position to know
- 6:41Speaker 5: these men pretty well, know their habits.
- 6:44Speaker 3: We're a small company, mister Dollar.
- 6:45Speaker 5: Our employees, including the girls in the office only number
- 6:48Speaker 5: twenty one.
- 6:49Speaker 3: That was your only reason to think one of them
- 6:51Speaker 3: may have done it. Oh, of course we.
- 6:53Speaker 5: Had our share of labor troubles, a few dissidents in
- 6:56Speaker 5: the ranks, so to speak. I suppose some of them
- 6:58Speaker 5: resent the rather top hand the management here. You mean
- 7:01Speaker 5: the fact there are nine executives to only twenty one employees. Yes,
- 7:05Speaker 5: and I must confess the profits have been pretty good lately.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Barry Winners gave me a list of here it is
- 7:13Speaker 5: now according to this, all of these.
- 7:17Speaker 3: What is it, mister Dowet. I got thinking on the
- 7:22Speaker 3: way over here.
- 7:23Speaker 5: Yeah, part of the pattern you mentioned the three men
- 7:26Speaker 5: were killed in well in alphabetical order, Yes, Adams, Bowers, Dalvers.
- 7:34Speaker 5: But now that I look at this list again, of
- 7:36Speaker 5: course the pattern again, No, no, I think that was
- 7:39Speaker 5: just coincidence. The pattern, if there is one, is based
- 7:42Speaker 5: on their order of rank. That is, if these salary
- 7:44Speaker 5: figures mean anything. I'm not sure I understand how Look
- 7:47Speaker 5: first was Adams at the lowest salary among you officers?
- 7:50Speaker 3: Oh?
- 7:50Speaker 5: Yes, Adams received twelve year Yeah. Look, Bowers came in
- 7:54Speaker 5: next to thirteen to five.
- 7:56Speaker 3: You're right, and Frank Dowvers aren't fifteen thousands.
- 7:59Speaker 5: So if this pattern should continue, you mean to say
- 8:02Speaker 5: you think there might be more of these murders. If
- 8:04Speaker 5: this pattern continues, the next to go would be good
- 8:07Speaker 5: Him would be James Williams or Charles Hart, both earning
- 8:11Speaker 5: sixteen to five. Then a couple of more than you,
- 8:15Speaker 5: mister Thomas, mister dollars. Well, I find James Williams. Well,
- 8:20Speaker 5: Williams is on vacation the little place not far from here,
- 8:22Speaker 5: Parvin's pond.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Why did he leave last week on Monday? Have you
- 8:25Speaker 3: heard from him? Oh? No, I haven't been.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Of course, if the alphabetical pattern is the right theory,
- 8:31Speaker 5: excuse me, Yes, sergeant, Then as Thomas's a sergeant, that
- 8:36Speaker 5: homicide mister Dowgs, I hear hold the phone, Thomas, Yes, sergeant.
- 8:40Speaker 4: I'm afraid I have some bad news.
- 8:42Speaker 5: William Oh, another one of your partners, Williams's, John Williams, Yes,
- 8:48Speaker 5: discovered his body over at Parvin's Pond this morning.
- 8:51Speaker 2: It's been murdered, good lord, Act two of yours, truly
- 9:11Speaker 2: Johnny Dollar in a moment.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Now Act two of yours, truly Johnny Dollar. And the
- 9:16Speaker 5: ugly pattern matter, another of the executives of the Simplex
- 9:27Speaker 5: Tackle Company, murdered legend to death and his little vacation
- 9:31Speaker 5: cabin on Parvin's Pond some forty miles north of Danbury.
- 9:34Speaker 3: And again it was according to pattern. How those carefree.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Kids can fish and water ski out there when there's
- 9:40Speaker 5: been a murder right under their noses.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yes, sergeant, I know what you mean, mister mister Williams
- 9:46Speaker 3: was using.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Yes, sir, he came up here on his vacation Monday
- 9:49Speaker 5: morning last week.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Alone.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Eh, here we are who knew he was coming to
- 9:54Speaker 5: this particular spots? Why everybody down at the planet. I
- 9:57Speaker 5: guess now the way the doc and I figured it out.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Mister Williams had just come in from fishing, and you
- 10:03Speaker 5: see there he'd just tossed his riding stringer.
- 10:06Speaker 3: On the bed.
- 10:08Speaker 5: Everything's just the way it was, except for his body.
- 10:10Speaker 5: That's in Danbury at the corner. You said he was
- 10:13Speaker 5: bludgeoned the desk with that ore.
- 10:14Speaker 3: From his rowboat. And see it laying there on the floor. Yeah,
- 10:18Speaker 3: I see who found his body?
- 10:20Speaker 5: Little old lady from the cabin next door. She'd stop
- 10:23Speaker 5: by this morning to bring him some cookies. Knocked on
- 10:25Speaker 5: the door. The door swung open, and there he was.
- 10:27Speaker 5: And the doc says the body was lying there ever since.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Have you checked that ore for Prince? A killer must
- 10:32Speaker 3: have used gloves, What about footprints if there were any?
- 10:35Speaker 5: Of the vacation crowd tramped him out long before we
- 10:37Speaker 5: got here. Now, the way we figure is that he
- 10:40Speaker 5: came in here Wednesday night off the lake Wednesday, Yes,
- 10:43Speaker 5: mister Dollar, just like the other ones that happened on Wednesday.
- 10:45Speaker 5: We can go tomorrow. Pattern, yes, sir, he asked me.
- 10:49Speaker 5: It's the pattern of a madman, this being a Tuesday.
- 10:53Speaker 3: And what possible motive could there be for it?
- 10:55Speaker 4: He asked me.
- 10:56Speaker 5: It's one of the employees there at the plant. After all,
- 10:59Speaker 5: for such a small a company, nine big money making officers.
- 11:02Speaker 5: At least it was nine.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I know what you mean. Are those twenty one employees
- 11:06Speaker 3: paid pretty well? Nope, in spite of the company making
- 11:09Speaker 3: a lot of money.
- 11:10Speaker 5: What with this recession we're on radio signs man, most
- 11:13Speaker 5: of the so called recessions a lot of bump.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I agree with you.
- 11:16Speaker 5: Everybody get out and dig instead of sitting around hoarding
- 11:18Speaker 5: their money. Well, what I was going to say is
- 11:20Speaker 5: that those executives took advantage and I held down wages
- 11:24Speaker 5: in spite of all the money they're making.
- 11:26Speaker 3: So just split one crazy hothead.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Find out how good they're doing.
- 11:30Speaker 4: How well?
- 11:30Speaker 5: Have you checked those employees? The best we could. I
- 11:33Speaker 5: talked with every one of them myself. How about the
- 11:35Speaker 5: officers of the company. There's not one of them would
- 11:37Speaker 5: do a thing like that. They're all fine, man asked
- 11:40Speaker 5: mister Thomas. You're they're hard headed businessmen, everyone looking out
- 11:43Speaker 5: for himself. But they're all fine men, and they're all making.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Plenty of money. Oh, which reminds me, what's that mean?
- 11:51Speaker 5: A list of the officers and their salaries, and according
- 11:55Speaker 5: to this if there's to.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Be another victim. Not.
- 11:59Speaker 5: Oh, I've worked out on another step in the pattern
- 12:01Speaker 5: of these murders based on the earnings of these men.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Then, mister Dollar, it won't be anybody if I can
- 12:07Speaker 3: have it.
- 12:08Speaker 5: But Sergeant I may have to ask you to put
- 12:10Speaker 5: a twenty four hour watch over an officer of that
- 12:12Speaker 5: company name mister Charles Hart. I didn't bother explaining my
- 12:21Speaker 5: own idea the pattern to Sergeant Dennis. After all, my
- 12:24Speaker 5: theory could be wrong. But I drove back to the
- 12:26Speaker 5: Simplex factory to the office of Charles Hart. I found
- 12:30Speaker 5: only a secretary there.
- 12:33Speaker 7: No, he isn't here, mister Dalla. He perfectly honest about it.
- 12:37Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Hasn't he been in at all today? No, sir, hasn't
- 12:41Speaker 3: an in. It's about last Wednesday.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Look, whatever your name is. Have you called his home?
- 12:46Speaker 5: His wife a bachelor.
- 12:48Speaker 7: Mister Dollar, and lives in a little apartment in Danbray.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Have you tried to call him?
- 12:52Speaker 8: Oh?
- 12:52Speaker 3: No, sir, You see, mister Thomas know about his not
- 12:55Speaker 3: being here. There's nothing unusual about Charlie's leaving without telling us.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Mimas Thomas. He often goes off on sales trips like this.
- 13:02Speaker 3: It was the last scene the day mister Williams was killed. Well,
- 13:05Speaker 3: surely you.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Don't think Charlie Hart had anything to do with Jim
- 13:08Speaker 5: Williams being Oh did you find out anything.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Over Parvin's pond? No, not much of them, right?
- 13:14Speaker 5: Could this Charlie Hard have had any reason for wanting
- 13:17Speaker 5: Williams out of the organization and Adams and Bowers and Dollars.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Of course not. Yes, yes he could. What miss Gregg,
- 13:25Speaker 3: what do you mean by that?
- 13:27Speaker 7: Mister Hart was the one who built up this company,
- 13:29Speaker 7: the one who developed the products, but all his money
- 13:32Speaker 7: just to He's the one who sold all the products
- 13:34Speaker 7: that made all the money. He and mister Adams were
- 13:37Speaker 7: the ones who started the business.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Is that true, mister Thomas? Yes, of course.
- 13:40Speaker 7: And when mister Thomas and his relatives came along, Mis.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Greg she says, it's true, mister Dollar. Charlie Hart and
- 13:48Speaker 3: Ben Adams did start this business. They took on a
- 13:50Speaker 3: couple of partners, Al Bauers and Frank Delvers. They were
- 13:54Speaker 3: the ones who decided on the expansion program. He came
- 13:57Speaker 3: to us for the financing and the others gone.
- 13:59Speaker 7: It should have been mister.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Wit our financing made this present operation possible.
- 14:04Speaker 5: But to imply that Charlie could have been driven by
- 14:06Speaker 5: jealousy or where any other movie to commit these crimes,
- 14:09Speaker 5: that's absurd.
- 14:10Speaker 3: How could you suggest such a thing this break. I
- 14:14Speaker 3: didn't say he did it. I only know what you said,
- 14:18Speaker 3: and you've set it up.
- 14:19Speaker 5: Tell me one thing is Thomas, Yes, what happens to
- 14:22Speaker 5: his share of the business when one of the partners
- 14:25Speaker 5: dies or in this case, when he's murdered.
- 14:28Speaker 3: What the partners absorb his share?
- 14:30Speaker 5: Then if Charlie Hart eliminated one of you, it would
- 14:33Speaker 5: add to his holdings.
- 14:34Speaker 3: That's true. Okay, I'll see you later.
- 14:35Speaker 5: But mister Dollary, if you believe for one moment that
- 14:38Speaker 5: Charlie Hart I've.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Known him for a year. Yeah, I think I want
- 14:42Speaker 3: to know him a little better.
- 14:50Speaker 6: Act three of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar in a moment?
- 14:53Speaker 8: Do you know who said democracy is based upon the
- 14:57Speaker 8: conviction that there are extraordinary possibility in ordinary people. Those
- 15:03Speaker 8: words came from the American religious leader Harry Emerson Fosda.
- 15:08Speaker 8: From the earliest days of the United States of America,
- 15:11Speaker 8: there has been the sentiment that the average person can
- 15:14Speaker 8: achieve an important goal if he has given an environment
- 15:17Speaker 8: in which he can develop his capabilities to the fullest extent,
- 15:21Speaker 8: an environment in which the individual is given the rights
- 15:24Speaker 8: and privileges that he needs for development. It is the
- 15:28Speaker 8: duty of every American to protect and stimulate this environment.
- 15:33Speaker 8: Remember the words of Harry Emerson Fosdik. They are part
- 15:37Speaker 8: of your American heritage. The extraordinary possibilities of ordinary people
- 15:42Speaker 8: are inherent in American democracy.
- 15:47Speaker 5: And now act free of yours, Truly, Johnny Dollar and
- 15:50Speaker 5: the ugly pattern matters. It was pretty plain that Charlie Hart,
- 15:58Speaker 5: supposedly next on the list victims, had plenty of motive
- 16:01Speaker 5: for eliminating some of his partners in the Simplex Tackle Company.
- 16:04Speaker 3: I guess the same apply to any other member of
- 16:06Speaker 3: the company.
- 16:07Speaker 5: But he, having started the business, knew all about the others,
- 16:09Speaker 5: their plans, their habits, and he'd been last seen just prior.
- 16:13Speaker 3: To the murder of James Williams.
- 16:15Speaker 5: I got his address, hopped into my car and go
- 16:16Speaker 5: back to Danvery. But ringing his bell and punning on
- 16:19Speaker 5: his door got me nothing. Here here, a young man,
- 16:25Speaker 5: you want mister Hart to publify them, as are you?
- 16:28Speaker 5: The building superintendent? And I want you to let me
- 16:30Speaker 5: in the mister Heart's apartment.
- 16:32Speaker 3: All right.
- 16:33Speaker 5: Here, here are my contencials. I'm an insurance investigator.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, see jurnay dollars for sure. And if that
- 16:41Speaker 3: isn't enough, here's a five spot via Trouble ten. Will okay, dad? Thanks?
- 17:00Speaker 3: Mm hmmm mm hmmm mm hmmm h m hm hm
- 17:10Speaker 3: hm the same list. And I got the office. Huh
- 17:14Speaker 3: the company, mister Charlie. Did a look behind the door,
- 17:20Speaker 3: and you barged in here. Yeah, well look, would you
- 17:22Speaker 3: like to point that thing the other way please? I'm sorry,
- 17:26Speaker 3: mister dollar, of course. Well you know who I am. Yes, yes,
- 17:28Speaker 3: I heard you through the door. All right.
- 17:30Speaker 5: Is that the gun that killed one of your partners,
- 17:32Speaker 5: that killed one of my No, listen, tomorrow's another Wednesday. Wednesdays.
- 17:39Speaker 5: I know.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Look, I did that list your holding.
- 17:42Speaker 9: I finally realized the progression in which these murders are
- 17:44Speaker 9: happening on the basis of our salaries at the company. Adams, Flowers,
- 17:49Speaker 9: Dolvers and Williams are me. Yes, you've circled William's name. Yes,
- 17:53Speaker 9: because he got it last week. That's why I'm staying
- 17:56Speaker 9: in here, locked in because tomorrow with the killers likes again,
- 18:00Speaker 9: that crazy maniac killing.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Maybe, or maybe that's what he like everyone to think. Charlie.
- 18:07Speaker 3: A couple of questions, anything if I can help you
- 18:10Speaker 3: stop this.
- 18:10Speaker 5: That company was once yours. That's right, you're the boss,
- 18:13Speaker 5: the head man until Hanley Thomas came along. Yes, Hanley
- 18:17Speaker 5: and his brothers and his brother in law, and they
- 18:19Speaker 5: took over as first in rank.
- 18:21Speaker 3: They were entitled to Della. Why was there money? Made
- 18:25Speaker 3: the company what it is?
- 18:27Speaker 9: I'm not an administrator, a man who knows and plays
- 18:30Speaker 9: all the angle time.
- 18:32Speaker 3: I'm just a worker in a sales room. You mean
- 18:34Speaker 3: you you're content with the present set up?
- 18:37Speaker 9: Yes, yes, of course, in spite of the prodding of
- 18:40Speaker 9: a sweet old secretary who thinks that eit a minute.
- 18:45Speaker 5: You stay put, keep that gun, and don't move out
- 18:47Speaker 5: of this apartment until I tell you to, no matter
- 18:49Speaker 5: who comes to the door to.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Save your life.
- 18:50Speaker 5: You think you know, Charlie, it's been right on my nose,
- 18:53Speaker 5: the obvious, almost too obvious.
- 18:58Speaker 3: But I had no proof of anything, only hunch, but
- 19:00Speaker 3: a potent one. So how to prove it out? Bluff?
- 19:04Speaker 3: It might work if I was right.
- 19:06Speaker 5: I drove into police headquarters and picked up Sergeant Dennis
- 19:08Speaker 5: than out for the Simplex Tackle Company. But when I
- 19:11Speaker 5: walked in it was after hours, no secretaries about When
- 19:14Speaker 5: I walked into the office, I borrowed the sergeant's handcuffs
- 19:16Speaker 5: and made him wait outside as he grew to the door.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Well, mister daughter, I didn't expect you back seas. What
- 19:24Speaker 3: are the handcuffs me? I mean arrest for the murder
- 19:27Speaker 3: of your partners.
- 19:28Speaker 5: That's a very bad joke, you and your brothers and
- 19:31Speaker 5: brother in law, the whole company yours, once you got
- 19:33Speaker 5: rid of the men who started it, who made it
- 19:35Speaker 5: possible for your capital and make it pay off.
- 19:37Speaker 3: But tell me you're going to kill off your relatives
- 19:39Speaker 3: to one by one.
- 19:40Speaker 5: This was the most absurd thing cow about your tracks
- 19:42Speaker 5: pretty well perfect crimes except for that or you used
- 19:46Speaker 5: to kill Williams. Fingerprints as big as life all over
- 19:49Speaker 5: it impossible. I figured the gloves you wore must have
- 19:52Speaker 5: had holes in them or have been worn very thin.
- 19:54Speaker 5: What that you just didn't notice in the excitement of
- 19:56Speaker 5: the moment. And when I finally found those gloves, you've
- 19:59Speaker 5: been out to my home brand. Second, my own wife
- 20:01Speaker 5: confessed that you weren't at home at the time of
- 20:03Speaker 5: any of the murders that July.
- 20:04Speaker 3: She helped me plan the whole thing. And you admit
- 20:08Speaker 3: the murders after my bluff about the fingerprints. I see.
- 20:14Speaker 5: Now that you know, you haven't had time to tell anyone. Yeah,
- 20:19Speaker 5: there's no one around to hear the shot, mister Dollar.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Oh but I heard a real cleanton quession mister Thomas. Sergeant. No, no,
- 20:26Speaker 3: do that was just to protect myself from this time.
- 20:28Speaker 4: I'm afraid that kind of talks a little late.
- 20:30Speaker 5: No, no, it is, I got, sergeant. I haven't seen
- 20:41Speaker 5: that fast draw except on TV where I landed. There'll
- 20:50Speaker 5: be a lot for the courts to work on about
- 20:53Speaker 5: who else was involved with Thomas. The sergeant's bullet killed him,
- 20:56Speaker 5: by the way, and I'd call it good riddance or
- 21:00Speaker 5: at least quick justice.
- 21:02Speaker 3: So expense account.
- 21:03Speaker 5: Total, including a lot of mileage on my car one
- 21:05Speaker 5: hundred and one dollars, even remarks why about it? Yours truly,
- 21:10Speaker 5: Johnny Dollar? Yours truly?
- 21:29Speaker 6: Johnny Dollar is starring Bob Bailey, originates in Hollywood and
- 21:32Speaker 6: is produced and directed by Jack.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Johnstone, who also wrote today's story.

- 21:38Speaker 6: Lewis heard Viagrants, Junius Matthews and Frank Gerstol. Be sure
- 21:41Speaker 6: to join us next week or another exciting story of yours, truly,
- 21:44Speaker 6: Johnny Dollar.
- 21:46Speaker 3: This is why Roland speaking.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Johnnie Dollar has come to you through the Worldwide Philippines
- 22:48Speaker 5: of the United States Armed Forces Radio and Television Service.
- 23:41Speaker 2: This is Andrew J.
- 23:42Speaker 8: Graham, author of the web surface series Oh and a
- 23:45Speaker 8: Man of His Wife.
- 23:46Speaker 5: You're listening to the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Welcome back. Well, an interesting episode with a couple of
- 24:00Speaker 1: different patterns. I think about as close as you'll get
- 24:03Speaker 1: to a serial killer in Johnny dler Our a villain
- 24:07Speaker 1: didn't do quite enough to disguise it as the work
- 24:10Speaker 1: of a madman, But at any rate, we do turn
- 24:13Speaker 1: to listener comments and feedback, and a comment from on
- 24:18Speaker 1: episode sixteen eighty one, the Delectable Damsel Matter, David says
- 24:24Speaker 1: love the name rip Single certainly was appropriate for that character.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Then we also have an email from Chris who says,
- 24:37Speaker 1: Adam totally loving your podcast. I started with great detectives,
- 24:41Speaker 1: then found dragging that my favorite OTR series and a
- 24:45Speaker 1: plan to go onto your war series next. Love your
- 24:49Speaker 1: work and love that you do not sell things that
- 24:51Speaker 1: are in public domain as other OTR podcasters do. Looking
- 24:54Speaker 1: forward to your future work. Well, thanks so much to
- 24:57Speaker 1: appreciate the email, Chris, and I think I know some
- 25:03Speaker 1: of what you're referring to. I know that some other
- 25:07Speaker 1: podcasters will sell big disc or even flash drives full
- 25:13Speaker 1: of Old Time radio MP threes. I'm not necessarily down
- 25:18Speaker 1: on people who do that, because basically, when you buy
- 25:22Speaker 1: a big collection of MP threes on CD or DVD,
- 25:28Speaker 1: you're buying ideally the convenience of getting them all collected
- 25:32Speaker 1: in a single place, rather than having to go and
- 25:36Speaker 1: download them. Though probably the practicality of MP three CDs
- 25:42Speaker 1: for a single series is probably not what it used
- 25:46Speaker 1: to be given the increasing Internet connection speed. For example,
- 25:51Speaker 1: the Old Time Radio Researchers just released their certified set
- 25:55Speaker 1: of the Lux Radio Theater, which in old days would
- 25:59Speaker 1: have taken forty two CDs, and I think it would
- 26:02Speaker 1: have still taken several DVDs if you go through it
- 26:06Speaker 1: the old fashioned way. But I downloaded it just off
- 26:09Speaker 1: and on over the course of a few days and
- 26:12Speaker 1: outless some of you with faster connections could do that
- 26:15Speaker 1: even faster, but still some of these are fairly large collection,
- 26:18Speaker 1: and I have had people request that we make some
- 26:23Speaker 1: sort of archived CD version of the show for people
- 26:29Speaker 1: just to easily order, and I think the reason that
- 26:32Speaker 1: I've not done that, and I have thought about it,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and I hate to disappoint any listener's requests, but to me,
- 26:40Speaker 1: I guess one way I've thought about it is a
- 26:43Speaker 1: lot of people don't. You may not remember this, but
- 26:46Speaker 1: Netflix used to sell used DVDs. They, of course, like
- 26:51Speaker 1: any video rental place, would buy up a ton of
- 26:54Speaker 1: new releases when a new movie was released, and then
- 26:58Speaker 1: when that movie became a popular they went ahead and
- 27:01Speaker 1: they sold it a nice deal on DVDs, and they're
- 27:05Speaker 1: still in good conditions boxes I never been used so
- 27:08Speaker 1: fine for gifts. But they discontinued selling DVDs, and Netflix
- 27:13Speaker 1: made that decision that, you know, we're not really in
- 27:17Speaker 1: the selling DVD's business, and certainly with the turn that
- 27:21Speaker 1: it's taken with instant video, that certainly makes a lot
- 27:24Speaker 1: of sense. And I'm kind of like that when it
- 27:27Speaker 1: comes to the idea of creating some mass archive ced thing,
- 27:33Speaker 1: it's not particularly an expertise of mine, and it's an
- 27:37Speaker 1: entirely different project and sort of business that I just
- 27:40Speaker 1: don't think would be the best way to serve listeners overall.
- 27:46Speaker 1: But thanks so much for the email. I definitely do
- 27:48Speaker 1: appreciate that. Well. That will actually do it for today.
- 27:52Speaker 1: We'll be back tomorrow with Dragnet. Next Friday, join us
- 27:56Speaker 1: for another episode of Yours Truly, Johnny Doller. In the meantime,
