- 0:00Speaker 1: Day.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hi everyone, It's Alex Starrett, host of One Look Up
- 0:08Speaker 2: with Alex Garrett aka One Look Up. Alex. Excited to
- 0:11Speaker 2: have you for a year thirteen of this podcast. We've
- 0:13Speaker 2: gotten through twelve amazing years thanks to you. Here's to
- 0:17Speaker 2: Lucky thirteen. All right, Well, I talked with Caleb about
- 0:22Speaker 2: the Giants two Super Bowl wins earlier this week. Now
- 0:26Speaker 2: to round out the week, I've got Jordan Baudoin of
- 0:30Speaker 2: on In Jay and so much more. Jordan, first of all,
- 0:34Speaker 2: thanks for joining Jordan, Thanks for joining my podcast.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Of course, I am so happy to be here and
- 0:40Speaker 1: to talk with you today.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Now, where exactly are you right Nowaday? I know it's
- 0:45Speaker 2: in forced the sport, but you still work for ON
- 0:46Speaker 2: and J as well.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I do a little bit of both. I actually bounce
- 0:50Speaker 1: back and forth between the two.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well, it's awesome to have you on. And I just
- 0:54Speaker 2: met your colleague John at the other day at Pinstripe Pride,
- 0:57Speaker 2: and it's just it's a great network you guys got
- 0:59Speaker 2: going on over there.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we we really know how to you know,
- 1:03Speaker 1: talk and come up with story ideas. And you know,
- 1:06Speaker 1: I haven't talked to her in a in a hot minute.
- 1:08Speaker 1: But you know, we do a lot of we do
- 1:10Speaker 1: a lot of writing when it comes to like Philly
- 1:12Speaker 1: stuff and all kinds of other stuff. You know, you
- 1:14Speaker 1: know I kind of enjoy doing that.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Well, then let me ask you that. Firstly, how is
- 1:19Speaker 2: it to be a giant fan in South Jersey slash
- 1:23Speaker 2: you know, Philly where everybody's pretty much ego as I
- 1:25Speaker 2: imagine your neighborhood.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I mean, it's kind of fun to be different. I
- 1:31Speaker 1: mean the people around me, they're all Yankees fans and
- 1:34Speaker 1: all that other stuff, and you know, I'm actually really
- 1:37Speaker 1: enjoying it.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Now, does that mean you're a Philly Philly girl? Like?
- 1:42Speaker 2: Are you an a Phillies fan or a Yankee fan?
- 1:45Speaker 1: I am a Phillies fan, I do not. I am
- 1:48Speaker 1: not a fan of the Yankees. I will watch them,
- 1:52Speaker 1: I will pretty much. I will watch whatever sport is
- 1:53Speaker 1: in front of me. Let me put it that way.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But that's kind of been my whole life is pretty
- 1:59Speaker 1: much aways it's been about sports.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Well, I'll tell you if there was ever a second
- 2:03Speaker 2: city I moved to, it's Philly. I just feel like
- 2:05Speaker 2: a home there because I love going to see the
- 2:08Speaker 2: historical I mean America two fifty. You can't be being
- 2:12Speaker 2: in Philly for that, so it'll be an exciting year
- 2:14Speaker 2: for sure. But let's get to the tasking hand, which
- 2:17Speaker 2: is Super Bowl Week and the last couple days with
- 2:21Speaker 2: an honorary anniversaries including the GIANTSH eight win and of
- 2:24Speaker 2: course the twenty twelve when now, which one do you
- 2:27Speaker 2: remember most? Do you remember them both vividly? Like, you know,
- 2:30Speaker 2: were those Super Bowls where your fandom for the Giants started?
- 2:34Speaker 1: Actually, my fandom for the Giants started actually before I
- 2:38Speaker 1: was born. My parents actually their first date was to
- 2:42Speaker 1: a Giants game. So when I was born, things really
- 2:45Speaker 1: kind of you know, our house has always been Giants pride,
- 2:51Speaker 1: so it just kind of I grew up with it.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So being a little kid and watching the Giants win
- 2:56Speaker 1: in eight and twenty twelve, it's just been it was exciting,
- 3:00Speaker 1: you know, and you know, I was I want to say,
- 3:04Speaker 1: maybe six seven eight years old at the time watching
- 3:08Speaker 1: those games, so I was kind of like just sitting
- 3:10Speaker 1: back and like trying to understand the game a little more,
- 3:14Speaker 1: because you know, you're a little kid, so you don't
- 3:16Speaker 1: really have a full understanding, but you know, it was
- 3:19Speaker 1: fun to watch, like my dad took me to my
- 3:21Speaker 1: first Giants game.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Now, I'm guessing you were not really around for the
- 3:28Speaker 2: Giant Stadium world or were you around for Giants Stadium
- 3:31Speaker 2: and then you grew up in Met Life.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I grew up in Met Life, so I was not
- 3:36Speaker 1: around for stadium world.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Well, Giant Stadium was a interesting place to watch a game.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I'm sure your parents and your your family told you
- 3:43Speaker 2: a lot of stories about the old Giant Stadium and
- 3:46Speaker 2: met life because we share with the Jets a little
- 3:49Speaker 2: more Blander, but I still feel the Giant Blue whenever
- 3:52Speaker 2: there's a game day there.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 2: And you know, to Chris and it would basically that
- 3:58Speaker 2: win the first couple of seasons in was really special.
- 4:01Speaker 2: And now you're writing for the team. I mean, how
- 4:04Speaker 2: cool is that to grow up and now you're writing
- 4:07Speaker 2: for them on a on a on a you know,
- 4:09Speaker 2: being published about them. It's gotta be feel awesome for you.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Jordan's it's yeah. Yeah. When when I first got in
- 4:14Speaker 1: touch with and Force the sport, they asked me, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 1: what do you want to write? And I was like,
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know, I want to write. I want to write Giants.
- 4:22Speaker 1: So that's what I did, and you know, I follow
- 4:24Speaker 1: them every day, you know, I keep up with what's
- 4:27Speaker 1: going on, and it's it's exciting for me. So for
- 4:31Speaker 1: everything that's been going on, this is like, this is
- 4:34Speaker 1: like really exciting for me to look forward to this
- 4:37Speaker 1: coming season.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Oh after years having to write about this and the other.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Now it's sad because Daviles first year showed a lot
- 4:45Speaker 2: of promise and I'm sure you felt that way too.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I mean, he started his tenure with a two point
- 4:51Speaker 2: conversion against Tennessee that won the game, and I'm like,
- 4:53Speaker 2: all right, this guy could be here for a while.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I never thought three years later would be a complete disaster,
- 4:58Speaker 2: but it ended up being so. And now this is
- 5:01Speaker 2: really a reinvention of the Giants. John Harbaugh is gonna
- 5:04Speaker 2: be the reinvention for the Giants. What do you think?
- 5:07Speaker 1: I think so big time. I mean, he's been to
- 5:10Speaker 1: Super Bowls, he's been to playoffs. I know his last
- 5:13Speaker 1: couple of seasons with the Ravens were a little bit tough,
- 5:17Speaker 1: but you know, I feel like him coming in with
- 5:19Speaker 1: the Giants is going to really turn things around.
- 5:24Speaker 2: But Jordan, what I love about your work is it's
- 5:26Speaker 2: not just like all right, here's what everybody's hearing about.
- 5:28Speaker 2: You dig in, I mean, you dig in and write
- 5:31Speaker 2: about things nobody's hearing about. Like, I'm sure half of
- 5:34Speaker 2: the population doesn't know Matt Naggi's the offensive coordinator, But
- 5:37Speaker 2: if you turn to Jordan's speech, he's already ready writing
- 5:39Speaker 2: about it. I'm sure that's how in depth you get
- 5:41Speaker 2: with this team.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's how in depth I am with this team.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And then you throw your you know, your your hats
- 5:49Speaker 2: and stuff at the TV when they screw up, so
- 5:51Speaker 2: that you have a passion for him. So what's it
- 5:53Speaker 2: like to write your passion write out your passion for
- 5:56Speaker 2: this team and even get vocal about it. I mean,
- 5:58Speaker 2: you don't. You don't mince words at all.
- 6:01Speaker 1: No, I do not mince words when when I am happy,
- 6:04Speaker 1: when I am sad. It truly depends on how they
- 6:08Speaker 1: play kind of pretty much what sets my mood for
- 6:10Speaker 1: pretty much the whole rest of the weekend or the
- 6:12Speaker 1: rest of the day. I would say it's you know,
- 6:15Speaker 1: I have touched base on a lot of areas where
- 6:20Speaker 1: you know, frustration and watching this team just kind of
- 6:25Speaker 1: fall apart where they shouldn't be. But I feel like
- 6:30Speaker 1: there is a lot going on, Like they have the
- 6:33Speaker 1: I feel like they have all the pieces together, They're
- 6:36Speaker 1: just not quite sure what to do with them yet.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Well, I think a healthy Scat, a healthy Leak, and
- 6:43Speaker 2: a healthy Jackson, well with Harball, it's going to be
- 6:46Speaker 2: great pairing. And you know, I look at I look
- 6:49Speaker 2: at Harball. He won with Joe Flacco. He basically, you know,
- 6:55Speaker 2: taught Lamar Jackson. I know it was a bad split,
- 6:57Speaker 2: but early on he mentored Lamar Jackson what a great player.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Jackson's you know, becabb He's become one of those elite
- 7:05Speaker 2: quarterback debates, right, And so I think you can do
- 7:08Speaker 2: that with Jackson Dart, and I think he can do
- 7:10Speaker 2: it in a balance way. We all know Dabill loved
- 7:13Speaker 2: the guy, but maybe to the point of getting the
- 7:14Speaker 2: concussion protocol. There might have been an overuse of Jackson
- 7:17Speaker 2: Dart his first year. What do you think.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I think there was a very much overuse of Jackson Dart.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I felt like things kind of fell out of place.
- 7:28Speaker 1: And I felt like in the last I want to
- 7:30Speaker 1: say last year and probably the year before, where they
- 7:33Speaker 1: were calling plays and every time you turned around, the
- 7:36Speaker 1: Giants were running the ball, and it's not you know,
- 7:41Speaker 1: it's not a play that every that a team should
- 7:45Speaker 1: play all the time, you know what I mean. So
- 7:48Speaker 1: I felt like like when they called the concussion protocol
- 7:53Speaker 1: where they had him running and running and running and running,
- 7:56Speaker 1: it was kind of rough to watch because I felt
- 7:59Speaker 1: like they couldn't they didn't have the trust in their quarterback.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And that's where they went wrong is they have to
- 8:05Speaker 1: find the trust in Jackson Dart to get that bull
- 8:08Speaker 1: out there and get it in the air. I mean,
- 8:10Speaker 1: he's got an arm. It's just a matter of working
- 8:13Speaker 1: with it. And that's where I feel Harribo is gonna
- 8:15Speaker 1: help to turn that around for him.
- 8:18Speaker 2: And maybe a little discipline. And like I watched that
- 8:20Speaker 2: Saints game and I'm like, Jackson, why going for those
- 8:22Speaker 2: extra few yards? He fumbles the football And there was
- 8:25Speaker 2: a lot of I want to say stubbornness as well.
- 8:27Speaker 2: His first year he got very ambitious. I think Jim
- 8:30Speaker 2: Harball can John Harbough sorry, could bring a discipline to
- 8:34Speaker 2: Jackson that maybe he didn't have this year.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you on that, And.
- 8:39Speaker 2: So we'll have to see. The kids got talent, the
- 8:41Speaker 2: kids got an arm and then Scattabo. You know, you
- 8:43Speaker 2: can't really help what happened, and that was horrible in
- 8:46Speaker 2: that Philly game. But another kid that might need a
- 8:49Speaker 2: little discipline under Harball's watch. We'll have to see how
- 8:52Speaker 2: that goes. And Leak ends up being the veteran of
- 8:54Speaker 2: the three of them. How funny is that. I mean
- 8:56Speaker 2: it's gonna be now his third season. I think he's
- 8:58Speaker 2: gonna be the vet of this three.
- 9:00Speaker 1: The score here, Yeah, yeah, I agree with that. That's
- 9:03Speaker 1: pretty crazy. I remember the moment that the night he
- 9:05Speaker 1: got drafted. I was actually watching it at home with
- 9:07Speaker 1: my dad, and I was really excited to see him
- 9:10Speaker 1: get drafted.
- 9:11Speaker 2: All right, so you're a kid watching these through Super Bowls.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I want to go back to that because I think
- 9:16Speaker 2: all of our in our children, in their kid was
- 9:20Speaker 2: pissed off that Eli wasn't voted a second time around
- 9:24Speaker 2: to the hall, like that's our childhood hero. Wouldn't you agree?
- 9:27Speaker 1: I would agree?
- 9:29Speaker 2: And so how old were you firstly? And did you
- 9:31Speaker 2: have a grasp of what Eli Manning did at that time?
- 9:35Speaker 2: I mean it was pretty magnificent what he did. Of course,
- 9:37Speaker 2: he had a solid defense too, which helped out both
- 9:40Speaker 2: years there but when you were a kid, could you
- 9:43Speaker 2: feel that magnitude even in the young's you know, young Jordan,
- 9:46Speaker 2: if you will, I.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Did, actually because I remember, like, you know, when my
- 9:52Speaker 1: brother and I first started watching gay As, my dad
- 9:54Speaker 1: would look at us and he would like, you know,
- 9:56Speaker 1: talk to us about the Giants, and you know, kind
- 9:59Speaker 1: of like our entire schedule during football season revolved around
- 10:03Speaker 1: New York. So he'd be like Eli and like he
- 10:07Speaker 1: would get us excited. So like we'd watch the games,
- 10:10Speaker 1: and I remember, I remember a lot of that. So yes,
- 10:14Speaker 1: watching Eli play those games was like amazing. So when
- 10:18Speaker 1: I was a little kid watching that, that was that
- 10:20Speaker 1: was exciting for me because you know, my dad got excited,
- 10:23Speaker 1: so why not be excited.
- 10:26Speaker 2: And we're cann't forget that freezing cold in Green Bay
- 10:29Speaker 2: the first Super Bowl run. I mean that was quite
- 10:32Speaker 2: an effort there, now was quite an effort in the
- 10:36Speaker 2: freezing cold and Tomlin's face, Tom Coughlin's face like all
- 10:40Speaker 2: red and raw. It was just you'll never forget those
- 10:43Speaker 2: sights and sounds that first of all, Then the second one.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Tell me, if you notice this parallel, So in the
- 10:49Speaker 2: first one in Sanday, Samuel just missed an interception, and
- 10:52Speaker 2: then the Tyree play in the second one, there was
- 10:56Speaker 2: almost that similar thing that Manningham had, that incredible catch
- 10:58Speaker 2: on the sideline. I mean it felt like parallels against
- 11:01Speaker 2: the Patriots both years there.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yes it did.
- 11:05Speaker 2: And of course it came down of the last throw
- 11:07Speaker 2: by Brady two times, the last one of course, falling
- 11:10Speaker 2: in front of Grunk, the other one where the defense
- 11:12Speaker 2: was just a miracle, no pass interference at all. Like
- 11:15Speaker 2: I can remember that like it was yesterday and jump
- 11:17Speaker 2: around the house as a high school kid watching this.
- 11:19Speaker 2: I'll never forget all that. But let's fast forward today,
- 11:22Speaker 2: because once again the Patriots have reinvented themselves too. Maybe
- 11:27Speaker 2: you're earlier than the Giants. I kind of knew Drake
- 11:30Speaker 2: May was gonna be special going into the year. I
- 11:32Speaker 2: know he's gonna take him in the super Bowl. This
- 11:34Speaker 2: is a bit of a surprising year for them.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yes, this has been a bit of a surprising year
- 11:38Speaker 1: for them watching them play.
- 11:43Speaker 2: But in a sense, and I know I'm not supposed
- 11:45Speaker 2: to say this, but in a sense, I'm kind of
- 11:46Speaker 2: happy for Drake May that he's broken into this league.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I mean, I know, I'm just going to say that
- 11:50Speaker 2: as a Giant fan, but it is impressive to watch
- 11:52Speaker 2: his first year.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yes, it is. It is impressive to watch him play
- 11:56Speaker 1: the first his first year, and you know it's been
- 11:59Speaker 1: it's been a rough ride for the Patriots just as
- 12:01Speaker 1: much as it has been for Giants. They just got
- 12:03Speaker 1: to their rebuilt faster than the Giants did.
- 12:07Speaker 2: And Rabel, you know, he's been there before. He's won,
- 12:09Speaker 2: he's lost, he's been in the trenches, so I think,
- 12:13Speaker 2: and he's one of those rare guys that learned under
- 12:16Speaker 2: Belichick and has succeeded. And remember Belichick is a bad
- 12:18Speaker 2: track record, the coaches breaking off from him and not succeeding.
- 12:22Speaker 2: But Rabel's reversing the trend here.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yes, I picked up on that.
- 12:28Speaker 2: So yes, I want to ask you about on the
- 12:31Speaker 2: other side, we all saw Darnold struggle because I know
- 12:33Speaker 2: you also followed the Jets as well a little but
- 12:35Speaker 2: even though don't wright about you followed them because I
- 12:37Speaker 2: feel like you follow all things football and New York football.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I'm also happy for him too, like he's kind of
- 12:42Speaker 2: given the fu to both the Jets and the Vikings
- 12:44Speaker 2: for giving up on him. And now he's in the
- 12:46Speaker 2: super Bowl with the Seahawks, and actually he's in the
- 12:49Speaker 2: same category as Brady. I think it's like fourteen thousand
- 12:53Speaker 2: pass yards or whatever. Only the other guy to do
- 12:56Speaker 2: that in back to back years was Tom Brady. He's
- 12:57Speaker 2: already mentioned with Brady, and it's just it's amazing to
- 13:00Speaker 2: watch his renaissance as well.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Yes, it is kind of that was exciting to see
- 13:06Speaker 1: him because you know it is, and I agree with
- 13:08Speaker 1: you that it's kind of like a screw you to
- 13:10Speaker 1: the Jets and the Vikings because they gave up on
- 13:14Speaker 1: him too soon. He's one hell of a player, I'll
- 13:18Speaker 1: put it that way.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Well, he's got guts, he's got grittiness, and it's interesting.
- 13:23Speaker 2: I don't think he got to show his athleticism with
- 13:25Speaker 2: the Jets at all. I feel like they kind of
- 13:27Speaker 2: pigeonhole him. So to see that with the Vikings last
- 13:30Speaker 2: year and what he did with them, they should have
- 13:33Speaker 2: kept him. To be honest with you, they shouldn't. Because McCarthy,
- 13:35Speaker 2: as much as I loved him in Michigan a surprising flop.
- 13:39Speaker 2: A surprising flop. I know he's been hurt too, but
- 13:42Speaker 2: still it's just a shock because he was such a
- 13:44Speaker 2: dominant force in that title game. I'm sure you remember
- 13:47Speaker 2: that a few years ago.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I do, I do, But yes, I can't agree with
- 13:52Speaker 1: you more that that is one of the biggest flops
- 13:55Speaker 1: of the NFL Draft.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Now, the only part that would be wanting to root
- 14:03Speaker 2: against the Patriots in addition to dart Up success is this.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I know that we the eighteen and zero and then
- 14:10Speaker 2: n eighteen and one will never be replaced ever. Like
- 14:14Speaker 2: what the Giants did to interrupt that undefeated year for
- 14:18Speaker 2: Brady and the Patriots and how they knocked them off
- 14:20Speaker 2: for the ship Ball is just it'll be one for
- 14:22Speaker 2: the record books, and I think you'll talk about it
- 14:23Speaker 2: for ages. Oh yeah, but for the kids as the
- 14:27Speaker 2: Patriots get beat more than the Super Bowl. I don't
- 14:29Speaker 2: want to say it waters down what the Giants did,
- 14:31Speaker 2: but it's like, Okay, the Patriots were kind of beatable,
- 14:34Speaker 2: and I don't want that to be the case. Like
- 14:36Speaker 2: I wanted the Giants to have that stand as like
- 14:40Speaker 2: the only team to ever beat and now the egos
- 14:42Speaker 2: being them was interesting too, But I always wanted the
- 14:44Speaker 2: Giants to be the only team because it made that
- 14:46Speaker 2: more special, you know.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Yeah, that's what it made more special. I
- 14:50Speaker 1: couldn't agree with you more on that.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Like, okay, folds and the egos were an interesting thing,
- 14:55Speaker 2: but then it became well, then then that's another team
- 14:58Speaker 2: that beat the Patriots. But I always thought the Giants ones.
- 15:00Speaker 2: You can never take that away, no matter how many
- 15:01Speaker 2: teams beat them. But if the Pages win, it kind
- 15:05Speaker 2: of saves that. All right, what the Giants did was
- 15:07Speaker 2: special even years ago, decades ago. Yeah, because we all
- 15:11Speaker 2: know as we get older and the kids learn it,
- 15:14Speaker 2: they see it differently. They don't see that historic run
- 15:16Speaker 2: that we did, and that's why you writing about it
- 15:19Speaker 2: and preserving it's so important. Yeah, Now at MetLife, what
- 15:25Speaker 2: do you like about game day there? Do you like
- 15:27Speaker 2: the game day atmosphere could be different? I mean, obviously
- 15:30Speaker 2: I think a winning cultural help, but what's your Do
- 15:32Speaker 2: you still get excited to go to a game even
- 15:34Speaker 2: as they're struggling.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yes, I still get excited to go to games even
- 15:37Speaker 1: though they are a struggling team, because I get to
- 15:40Speaker 1: go and see how many other people are in support
- 15:43Speaker 1: of this team despite how much they've been falling apart
- 15:46Speaker 1: in the last couple of years. You know, I like
- 15:48Speaker 1: going just to see, you know, the stadium full, and
- 15:51Speaker 1: you know, and you know when Jackson Dark came in
- 15:54Speaker 1: and that stadium was I beg to go to that game.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Like my dad was like, well, you know, I gotta
- 16:02Speaker 1: I want to take your mom. You know, that's usually
- 16:04Speaker 1: her game. And I was like, you know, I really,
- 16:05Speaker 1: So I went and I bought the tickets because I
- 16:07Speaker 1: was like, this is a big game, Jackson Darts coming in.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I want to go. So I bought the tickets and
- 16:12Speaker 1: I went. And just seeing that stadium filled and seeing
- 16:17Speaker 1: how excited all the fans were, you know, it was
- 16:20Speaker 1: I hadn't seen that in a long time. So to me,
- 16:23Speaker 1: that's like that makes me happy. And then walking out
- 16:27Speaker 1: of the stadium where everyone's chanting when the team does
- 16:30Speaker 1: win a game, that makes me excited too, you know,
- 16:34Speaker 1: And just getting to see them on the field that
- 16:38Speaker 1: that actually makes me really happy because you know, watching
- 16:41Speaker 1: them grow as a team is one of the best
- 16:43Speaker 1: things I love to see.
- 16:46Speaker 2: And Jordan, right, I like about our commonality is we
- 16:50Speaker 2: don't care about draft picks, just much that locker room
- 16:52Speaker 2: doesn't care about draft picks. And for them to win
- 16:55Speaker 2: the way that the last couple of games said, Okay,
- 16:59Speaker 2: maybe that's how of what could be to come. I mean,
- 17:01Speaker 2: we had a new coach that we had to look
- 17:02Speaker 2: forward to and all that. But I don't want to
- 17:04Speaker 2: go down losing to the Cowboys. I don't care what
- 17:06Speaker 2: draft pick we have to get, Like I just it's
- 17:10Speaker 2: a it's a Giants pride thing almost.
- 17:12Speaker 1: It's a Giants pride pride thing. I agree what I
- 17:16Speaker 1: felt about those last couple of games. You know, they
- 17:20Speaker 1: had the number one pick, and thinking back on it,
- 17:24Speaker 1: you know, I was kind of excited for them to
- 17:26Speaker 1: have the first pick, and then I really thought about
- 17:28Speaker 1: it and I was like, well, I feel like most
- 17:30Speaker 1: first picks kind of fall off the edge after the
- 17:34Speaker 1: season starts. So I'm kind of glad that they won
- 17:37Speaker 1: those last couple of games and drop down to number five.
- 17:40Speaker 1: So to me, I'm kind of ready for whoever they pick.
- 17:44Speaker 1: You know, I kind of hope it's either Jordan Tyson
- 17:46Speaker 1: or somebody else. But we do need to fill those
- 17:49Speaker 1: those empties, those vacant spots.
- 17:51Speaker 2: All right, Well, you gotta get a line in for
- 17:53Speaker 2: for Jackson. There's no doubt about that. And that's always
- 17:56Speaker 2: been a Giants perennial thing. You gotta keep that offensive
- 17:59Speaker 2: line enforced. But we don't need the quarterback, So not
- 18:02Speaker 2: getting first is okay. I mean Mendoza and I pray
- 18:07Speaker 2: wherever he goes he keeps that spirit. I mean, I
- 18:09Speaker 2: love his jovial nature that he played with it what
- 18:12Speaker 2: just about winning for him, like he had a whole
- 18:14Speaker 2: genuine feel about him. I want that to be preserved
- 18:17Speaker 2: no matter where he gets drafted. I think it'll be
- 18:18Speaker 2: with the Raiders. But the Giants kne number one. They
- 18:22Speaker 2: just needed to know they were gonna be okay to
- 18:24Speaker 2: end the year. And I think we're seeing that. So
- 18:28Speaker 2: yeah and so. And I want to say, in your writing, Jordan,
- 18:32Speaker 2: it reflects your optimism slash. It also reflects your your analysis, right,
- 18:39Speaker 2: but you're very optimistic when you write. Would you agree?
- 18:41Speaker 1: I would agree, yes. When when I do write, I
- 18:46Speaker 1: try to find the optimistic side of it, keep things up,
- 18:50Speaker 1: you know, despite the downhill. I kind of look at it.
- 18:53Speaker 2: That way, and I'm sure I enforce the support loves
- 18:55Speaker 2: that when you get to write from a positive spin,
- 18:57Speaker 2: because look, you can write all the negatives and we
- 19:00Speaker 2: see that in the media all the time. But I
- 19:02Speaker 2: think to have one leg up over the media, gotta
- 19:03Speaker 2: write a bit positive. And I've always said New York
- 19:06Speaker 2: sports media should celebrate the wins. I don't understand why
- 19:09Speaker 2: we don't do that enough.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't understand where we don't do that enough.
- 19:14Speaker 2: We always focus on all how bad things are. I mean,
- 19:16Speaker 2: this hardball thing is tremendous, and it's just there's really
- 19:20Speaker 2: not a negative you could think about it.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, no, there's no. I don't believe there's a negative
- 19:24Speaker 1: with this coach at well. You know, everybody's kind of
- 19:28Speaker 1: up in the air about the defensive coach the offensive coach.
- 19:32Speaker 1: But I feel like these three put together is gonna
- 19:35Speaker 1: light things up in New York again.
- 19:37Speaker 2: All right, let's talk about your writing. Now. Did you
- 19:39Speaker 2: do this as a kid? Where you Because here's the thing,
- 19:41Speaker 2: I'm kind of a geek. I would actually write notes
- 19:43Speaker 2: and I'm still gonna do it every super Bowl because
- 19:45Speaker 2: i always do like a big post Super Bowl day
- 19:47Speaker 2: podcast about the bear I break it down, you know,
- 19:49Speaker 2: And I've always written notes even as I'm at a
- 19:52Speaker 2: watch party. It's kind of geeky, I guess. But were
- 19:54Speaker 2: you the same? Like I feel like you're a note
- 19:55Speaker 2: taker even during these games.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I honestly, I kind I like to listen with the commentator,
- 20:02Speaker 1: So I listen to some of the things that they say,
- 20:04Speaker 1: and then I kind of go off my own thoughts.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Sometimes I will write it down. I do write things
- 20:09Speaker 1: down to remember things. I also, you know, do take
- 20:13Speaker 1: some little notes. Sometimes I will start writing the story
- 20:16Speaker 1: before the game is over, and then I'm like, you
- 20:18Speaker 1: know what, I'm gonna wait on this because if I
- 20:20Speaker 1: start saying they're gonna win, then it's all gonna go downhill.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Yes that article against Denver, you hadn't written the whole
- 20:27Speaker 2: thing yet, and then sure en up they blow I
- 20:29Speaker 2: mean thirty three points in that fourth quarter. I I
- 20:33Speaker 2: still can't get over. But like a game like that,
- 20:35Speaker 2: how do you write like that? How do you write
- 20:37Speaker 2: for that?
- 20:38Speaker 1: You you? Honestly, I kind of just sit back and
- 20:43Speaker 1: you know, I contemplated. I'm like, Okay, depending on how
- 20:46Speaker 1: this game is go, maybe I'll write the first sentence.
- 20:48Speaker 1: And then in the middle of the game, when I
- 20:50Speaker 1: do start the first sentence, I'm like, you know what,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna stop it right here. Like before I even
- 20:56Speaker 1: finish it, I get like four or five words in
- 20:59Speaker 1: and then I'm like, you know what, stop right there
- 21:01Speaker 1: before you write this whole thing out, Wait till this
- 21:03Speaker 1: game's over, because you never know how it's gonna end.
- 21:06Speaker 1: And that's pretty much what happened with that story.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Why didn't we get rid of it? And I didn't
- 21:11Speaker 2: realize Dabel had the control of this, and I think
- 21:13Speaker 2: that's another reason why he was like, oh, he didn't
- 21:15Speaker 2: fire Kafka. He didn't fire a bowling at all, and
- 21:18Speaker 2: that was kind of weird. But yeah, if they get
- 21:22Speaker 2: rid of him after that loss, the Giants still have
- 21:26Speaker 2: a chance. I believe the Giants were still having a
- 21:28Speaker 2: chance even after that because they had that high against
- 21:32Speaker 2: the Eagles and they were running off that high and
- 21:33Speaker 2: all of a sudden this happens. Why didn't d Abell
- 21:35Speaker 2: get rid of him sooner? What do you think the
- 21:38Speaker 2: mindset was?
- 21:39Speaker 1: I honestly, I don't think at that point. I think
- 21:42Speaker 1: he was just trying to keep his job at that
- 21:44Speaker 1: point and just trying to figure things out. I was
- 21:49Speaker 1: kind of done by even before that game. I was
- 21:54Speaker 1: kind of like, I need Dabel out of here, I
- 21:56Speaker 1: need Bowing out of here, I need Kafka, Like I
- 21:59Speaker 1: was ready to who just completely wipe the slate and
- 22:02Speaker 1: start over. I was so over that coaching staff that
- 22:06Speaker 1: I couldn't do it anymore. And I knew the day
- 22:10Speaker 1: he walked off the field after the Bears game that
- 22:13Speaker 1: he was.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Done another one when they blew that one, And that
- 22:17Speaker 2: was just awful too. But I want to get into
- 22:21Speaker 2: your you know, you just graduated, I think a couple
- 22:23Speaker 2: of years a year or so ago from school, And
- 22:26Speaker 2: did you major in this? Is this what your feel is?
- 22:29Speaker 1: I actually majored in just journalism. But I when I
- 22:33Speaker 1: was in college, I had tried to step away from
- 22:39Speaker 1: sports if I might have you and try and you know,
- 22:44Speaker 1: write other stories such as like you know, feature stories
- 22:47Speaker 1: on like what's going on in this school department or
- 22:50Speaker 1: what's going on in that school department. And I got
- 22:53Speaker 1: an email from a professor one day that said, hey,
- 22:57Speaker 1: do you want to be our sports editor next semester?
- 23:01Speaker 1: And right then and there I was pulled back in
- 23:04Speaker 1: and I knew right then and there that sports was
- 23:07Speaker 1: that No matter how many times I've tried to step
- 23:10Speaker 1: away from sports, the fishing line comes out and I
- 23:13Speaker 1: get reeled back in. And since then I have just
- 23:17Speaker 1: fallen in love with it, and I keep up with everything.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I watched the Devils, I watched the Phillies, obviously, I
- 23:22Speaker 1: watched the Giants. I watch pretty much anything that's put
- 23:26Speaker 1: in front of me.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Well, you're in South Philly, right or in South Jersey,
- 23:30Speaker 2: I should say, so you're you're close to Philly. I
- 23:32Speaker 2: gotta ask you this. Uh, the Sirianni rumors never end,
- 23:36Speaker 2: and I'm sure they always swirl. It seemed like Phillies
- 23:39Speaker 2: never happened, even if they just won Super Bowl last year.
- 23:41Speaker 2: You know, do you find this guy in the hot
- 23:43Speaker 2: seat almost every season, no matter what happens.
- 23:45Speaker 1: No matter what happens, he's always in the hot seat.
- 23:47Speaker 2: And is it justified or is it like, come on,
- 23:50Speaker 2: give the guy a break kind of at this?
- 23:53Speaker 1: You know this past season, I don't know. I would say,
- 23:57Speaker 1: you know, let him sit on the hot seat a
- 23:58Speaker 1: little while longer.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Did it pain? You see Saquon go to the Eagles?
- 24:03Speaker 2: Like I kind of understand the Giants rationale. The only
- 24:07Speaker 2: thing I don't understand is why we dumped that money
- 24:09Speaker 2: into Jones and not into Saquon or something different than Jones.
- 24:13Speaker 2: That's really my only question on that. I understand letting
- 24:16Speaker 2: them go though, because he wasn't always healthy. And I
- 24:18Speaker 2: kind of get that argument too.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Yeah I could. I couldn't agree more on that. He
- 24:22Speaker 1: wasn't always healthy, you know, but there there was a
- 24:26Speaker 1: lot going on there, and I understand it was the
- 24:28Speaker 1: first time in a couple of years that the Giants
- 24:30Speaker 1: had gone to the playoffs, But there was no need
- 24:32Speaker 1: to give Daniel Jones that contract.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Now, he's an athletic guy, and I think we could
- 24:38Speaker 2: see if he has the right line, he can do well.
- 24:40Speaker 2: But yeah, you know it just the forty five million.
- 24:43Speaker 2: I just I don't know. I wouldn't I wouldn't.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Have done it, but I wouldn't have done it.
- 24:47Speaker 2: But what who are we?
- 24:48Speaker 1: Right?
- 24:49Speaker 2: We're just kind of on the on the talking I
- 24:51Speaker 2: don't want to say talking heads, but we were out
- 24:52Speaker 2: of here just trying to figure it out for the fans. Really,
- 24:55Speaker 2: that's what it is.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Hey.
- 24:56Speaker 2: You know, I got to give a shout out to
- 24:57Speaker 2: Nathan because in our media is the guy who can
- 25:00Speaker 2: next us with all his you know, daily tags and
- 25:03Speaker 2: all that. I'm like, oh, Jordan, this is awesome. She's
- 25:05Speaker 2: a writer, she's cool, giant fan. Let's connect. So I
- 25:08Speaker 2: gotta give Nyhing a little shout out here for connecting.
- 25:11Speaker 2: But that means during gratiating New Jersey sports. I mean,
- 25:13Speaker 2: do you feel that New Jersey sports community or what
- 25:16Speaker 2: I do?
- 25:16Speaker 1: I do.
- 25:19Speaker 2: And and and how often do you see you know,
- 25:21Speaker 2: those who are in the Jersey sports community at different events.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Do you ever get out to different events and all that.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I honestly I haven't gone out to one in a while.
- 25:29Speaker 1: But when I do, you know, I kind of get
- 25:31Speaker 1: excited because you know, I get to meet all these
- 25:32Speaker 1: new people, make connections, and for me, it's it's it's exciting.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Oh. I mean the Woodbridge Brewing thing alone is just
- 25:42Speaker 2: a fun event every time you get to go there.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I hope we've gotten some events with them, and I
- 25:46Speaker 2: know other places throw giant stuff specifically, so I got
- 25:50Speaker 2: to get to that this season. And I think they're
- 25:52Speaker 2: going to see more of it. I think I think
- 25:54Speaker 2: more gonna come out of the woodwork with these changes
- 25:56Speaker 2: that we've seen this offseason, Like more people will want
- 25:58Speaker 2: to do watch parties and all that.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so.
- 26:03Speaker 2: And I gotta connect. I know, if you're connect with
- 26:05Speaker 2: Jazz Mainte, but I think they just started a podcast.
- 26:06Speaker 2: You gotta get on there and talk to them about
- 26:09Speaker 2: that whole with them, because Jazz Meet's saying, as you know,
- 26:12Speaker 2: a lifelong ticket, you know, season ticket guy. And that's
- 26:15Speaker 2: the other thing about the Giants, maybe with Jets too,
- 26:18Speaker 2: but the Giants have a legacy, you know, like they
- 26:20Speaker 2: aren't here one hundred years for nothing. They have a
- 26:22Speaker 2: whole family, as your family is a lineage of Giant fans.
- 26:26Speaker 2: It's not just like one for It's like a whole
- 26:28Speaker 2: family behind you.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's that's what I love too, is that,
- 26:32Speaker 1: you know, my family connects on football, especially New York football.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Every time around this year, you know, we get all
- 26:39Speaker 2: these anniversaries thirty five years since wide right Norwood a
- 26:42Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago, and then the Sims era. I mean,
- 26:45Speaker 2: does your dad and mom talked about those Giants two
- 26:48Speaker 2: of the parcels Giants. I mean it's almost like talking
- 26:51Speaker 2: about glory days. Not to quote Bruce Sprecy or anything,
- 26:53Speaker 2: but you.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Know, yeah, no, they talk about that. You know, my
- 26:57Speaker 1: dad's favorite player was Lawrence Taylor, so you know we
- 27:01Speaker 1: talk about that and how exciting those games were. You know,
- 27:06Speaker 1: he he watched a lot of those games. Back in
- 27:08Speaker 1: back in the day.
- 27:09Speaker 2: And I always love it. And we grew up watching
- 27:11Speaker 2: Sims on TV, and I always loved watching his commentating
- 27:14Speaker 2: with Jim Nance. There was nothing like the two of
- 27:16Speaker 2: them going back and forth in the booth. I do
- 27:18Speaker 2: miss that, and I actually miss him overall commentating, although
- 27:22Speaker 2: I know he has the podcast now, but that era was.
- 27:25Speaker 2: I've been calling these guys voices of our childhood. I
- 27:28Speaker 2: know they played, but they're like voice of our childhood.
- 27:30Speaker 2: We listened, we grew up listening to them. As you say,
- 27:33Speaker 2: listen to these guys now, I want to ask you this.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Please tell me listen to Bob Papa and Carl Banks
- 27:39Speaker 2: on Sundays because I feel like they are I must
- 27:41Speaker 2: listen during Giant games, not only itaus our household names,
- 27:44Speaker 2: but just because they got a great energy about him,
- 27:46Speaker 2: even when the team's stinking up the twoe.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Yep yep on on the car rides home from the
- 27:52Speaker 1: Giants game. And so my dad and I all listen
- 27:53Speaker 1: to those two.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Not and Carl Banks not the guy who, though he
- 27:58Speaker 2: was a former Giants play employed by f an not
- 28:01Speaker 2: a bid to call it out and he's been doing
- 28:03Speaker 2: that forever and We had the pleasure meeting Dick Lynch
- 28:06Speaker 2: many years ago, who was on the f an call
- 28:09Speaker 2: with Papa and and and Banks. So it's like, again,
- 28:13Speaker 2: we grew up around these guys. And tell me, listening
- 28:15Speaker 2: to radio is so much better than TV because TV
- 28:19Speaker 2: they don't highlight the players much. On radio, you have
- 28:21Speaker 2: to know who's going to what and I'm like, oh wait,
- 28:23Speaker 2: that guy's on that team. You know, it's a different
- 28:26Speaker 2: connection than TV than TV.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Yeah, you get to visualize it, which I get excited at,
- 28:33Speaker 1: which I get excited about. And I really like it
- 28:36Speaker 1: because you know, sometimes like I don't get to watch
- 28:38Speaker 1: the game, so listening to it like I know who's who,
- 28:41Speaker 1: what they look like. You know, I can picture in
- 28:44Speaker 1: what they're doing.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Now I've gotten to interview Kevin Harlan radio row twelve
- 28:49Speaker 2: years ago now, and that was when the Seahawks played
- 28:52Speaker 2: the Broncos here at MetLife. Nicest guy in the world,
- 28:56Speaker 2: and he's gonna call another Super Bowl. Come on, tell
- 28:58Speaker 2: me you don't love listening to Kevin Harlan call. I
- 29:00Speaker 2: mean that's just muscless and radio too.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Yes I do, I do.
- 29:06Speaker 2: All right, let me ask you about your your blogging. Now,
- 29:08Speaker 2: before you joined these publications, were you blogging yourself? Were you,
- 29:13Speaker 2: you know, writing online yourself and then you just eventually
- 29:16Speaker 2: ease into these different publications or what.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so that's how I got started. Actually, I
- 29:21Speaker 1: was blogging on my own and you know, I was
- 29:24Speaker 1: writing my own stories and so I was doing that.
- 29:28Speaker 1: But you know, I started really looking and when I
- 29:32Speaker 1: got into in my first couple of years of college,
- 29:35Speaker 1: I didn't know what I want to do. I knew
- 29:38Speaker 1: I wanted to write, but I didn't know what I
- 29:40Speaker 1: wanted to write about. So, you know, my my counselor
- 29:44Speaker 1: was like, you know, why don't you take this you know,
- 29:47Speaker 1: media course. You can take this multimedia, you can take
- 29:51Speaker 1: this other course, you know, take intro to Journalism. So
- 29:54Speaker 1: I was like, okay, So I was like, you know,
- 29:56Speaker 1: I'm not really I wasn't sure at the time, like
- 29:58Speaker 1: what journalism was. Like I was taught that, you know,
- 30:02Speaker 1: it was you know, you just you have to talk
- 30:05Speaker 1: to people, you have to do this, you have to
- 30:06Speaker 1: do that, and like I felt, it was a lot.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I was like, I don't know. So I took the
- 30:10Speaker 1: class and I knew right then and there that I
- 30:12Speaker 1: fell in love with it. So I being that person
- 30:18Speaker 1: you could get within that course, you could get extra
- 30:22Speaker 1: credit for every story you wrote for the school's page.
- 30:26Speaker 1: And at one point, all the stories I had written,
- 30:29Speaker 1: my name was on the top of the school page
- 30:31Speaker 1: and literally I took over the front of the page
- 30:33Speaker 1: because that's how many stories I wrote.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Wow that and what school was this? You don't let
- 30:38Speaker 2: me ask?
- 30:39Speaker 1: In Ocean County College.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Oh, very cool? And so your name on the top billing,
- 30:45Speaker 2: if you will, on the headlines. What's next? I mean,
- 30:49Speaker 2: I'm waiting to get those press passes, Jordan, I've been
- 30:51Speaker 2: asking about that. Are gonna get press passes through these outlets?
- 30:54Speaker 2: Like what's next?
- 30:55Speaker 1: What's next? Well, I gotta get all that, and I
- 30:59Speaker 1: gotta you know, the moment, I'm still writing for Enforced
- 31:02Speaker 1: and still writing for All New Jersey, and at the moment,
- 31:05Speaker 1: I'm kind of at a standstill until something else falls
- 31:07Speaker 1: into place.
- 31:09Speaker 2: And these outlets you think you'll be able to You're
- 31:12Speaker 2: not sure, I guess, but hey, as long as you're
- 31:15Speaker 2: getting your work out there, that's what matters now. On
- 31:17Speaker 2: in Jay, you don't just focus on the giants, right,
- 31:19Speaker 2: If I'm not mistaken, I think you're right about the
- 31:21Speaker 2: Phillies and stuff as well, or is that, Jenna.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I I write about the Devils, I write about the
- 31:27Speaker 1: Phillies On there. I go to some of the high
- 31:29Speaker 1: school games, so I'll cover some of those. I used
- 31:32Speaker 1: to cover some of the college games that were played,
- 31:37Speaker 1: so I was kind of all over the place. I mean,
- 31:40Speaker 1: at one point I was down at TCNJ catching some
- 31:42Speaker 1: of the baseball games.
- 31:44Speaker 2: And then they tell you these kids in college and
- 31:47Speaker 2: even in high school, they so appreciate the local coverage
- 31:50Speaker 2: because they need it, you know, and it's a way
- 31:52Speaker 2: to get these kids on the map. And you know, hey,
- 31:55Speaker 2: some kid might be out there recruited. We don't know,
- 31:57Speaker 2: maybe because of your article. You know, it could happen.
- 32:00Speaker 1: It could happen. Yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Now, have you ever thought about podcasting? Because you got
- 32:05Speaker 2: a great sports talk energy and I could I could
- 32:08Speaker 2: tell you're you're one that would take phone calls and
- 32:10Speaker 2: you'd be like lighting up the phone lines. So you
- 32:12Speaker 2: got a really good sports talk energy about you.
- 32:15Speaker 1: I've contemplated. I thought about taking podcasting in college, but
- 32:20Speaker 1: I had way too much on my play as it was,
- 32:23Speaker 1: and I just couldn't fit it. Into my schedule, so
- 32:27Speaker 1: I did not, But in the future I would hope
- 32:31Speaker 1: to get involved in more podcasts.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Writing technique I want to get into that has been
- 32:39Speaker 2: to like adapt your technique, and really it sounds like
- 32:42Speaker 2: you've been able to do for different writings, and I
- 32:44Speaker 2: feel like writing these different things, it takes different techniques.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Asn't like to write for future it's a little different
- 32:50Speaker 2: than writing for sports and vice versa.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Yes it is. It is very, very different. I can
- 32:55Speaker 1: tell you that for a fact. You know, sports is like,
- 32:59Speaker 1: you know, you got to be quick. You gotta be
- 33:01Speaker 1: on the money right now, get it out there, you know,
- 33:04Speaker 1: because it goes by quick. With feature writing, you know,
- 33:07Speaker 1: you can you can take your time with it, like
- 33:09Speaker 1: it's a little slow of a process. But the thing is,
- 33:12Speaker 1: I like to you know, when I have a story idea,
- 33:15Speaker 1: I want to get on it. So like, for example,
- 33:19Speaker 1: the one of my recent stories, which was Jackson Dart
- 33:26Speaker 1: helping to get Harbaugh in the door. You know, I
- 33:29Speaker 1: thought about it. I was like, oh, I want to
- 33:31Speaker 1: get this out like two days. So I sat down
- 33:33Speaker 1: and I wrote it. Now, in college, when I had
- 33:36Speaker 1: a feature story, I you know, it took me a
- 33:40Speaker 1: day or two, you know, not the day of, but
- 33:42Speaker 1: it took me maybe two three four days to get
- 33:45Speaker 1: it done, just because I wanted it to be a
- 33:47Speaker 1: little smoother and a little cleaner. I guess.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Well, let me ask you this. The speed and accuracy
- 33:54Speaker 2: is so important because I watch a lot of journalists
- 33:57Speaker 2: try and get the news out before anybody else, and
- 33:59Speaker 2: they follow their face half the time. So how do
- 34:01Speaker 2: you do it in such a meticulous way that you
- 34:03Speaker 2: can be fast and accurate at the same.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Time notes You gotta take your notes.
- 34:10Speaker 2: I mean, I just think of John Hayman an Arson
- 34:12Speaker 2: Judge when Aaron Judge was not going to San Francisco.
- 34:15Speaker 2: You know, that type of moment happens. But that's because
- 34:17Speaker 2: of these journalists are always going to rush, and yet
- 34:23Speaker 2: you knock out a story the same day, but you
- 34:25Speaker 2: do it in such a different way that's not like
- 34:27Speaker 2: rushing the like. You take your time. And I think
- 34:29Speaker 2: more journalists can learn from that, you know. Yeah, all right,
- 34:34Speaker 2: A kid today sees your name top billing at energy
- 34:37Speaker 2: sports or uninjured sports or at enforced supports and says,
- 34:40Speaker 2: I want to do that one day. What's your advice
- 34:42Speaker 2: to kids? I know, you're basically a kid yourself. You're
- 34:45Speaker 2: just graduated college, and you know what I'm saying, you
- 34:47Speaker 2: can be a leader for the kids you know after you.
- 34:50Speaker 2: So what's your advice.
- 34:52Speaker 1: My advice is to, you know, take your time. It
- 34:55Speaker 1: doesn't all have to happen right now. You know, get involved,
- 35:01Speaker 1: you know, be social and ask the questions. If you're
- 35:04Speaker 1: curious to know and you want to get that story
- 35:06Speaker 1: out there, you just got to, you know, sit and
- 35:09Speaker 1: talk with somebody and ask them, you know, can I
- 35:10Speaker 1: record you? Can I take notes on this and always
- 35:12Speaker 1: always have a pen on you because you never know
- 35:14Speaker 1: what an idea is going to strike.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Speaking of that interviews now, obviously the Giants media department's
- 35:20Speaker 2: a little different. But have you ever thought to like, hey,
- 35:23Speaker 2: I have this blog, I want to interview so and
- 35:25Speaker 2: so into a Q and A. Have you thought about
- 35:27Speaker 2: approaching even an NFL team about that.
- 35:30Speaker 1: I have contemplated it from time to time, but otherwise
- 35:34Speaker 1: I've just kind of sat back on it for a
- 35:35Speaker 1: little while.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Well, it sounds like you're waiting for that next big
- 35:41Speaker 2: break to happen. So we're gonna be following your journey
- 35:44Speaker 2: along the way. And I love that you are able
- 35:46Speaker 2: to and you're driven to cover everything, not just the
- 35:49Speaker 2: NFL or MB but even the local kids. And I
- 35:52Speaker 2: think I think they appreciate that too. Yeah, well this
- 35:56Speaker 2: has been great. Any any final thoughts. I mean, maybe
- 35:59Speaker 2: one day we'll see on Radio Row those those those
- 36:01Speaker 2: weeks are fun.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Man.
- 36:02Speaker 2: It's just it's a great time out and out in
- 36:05Speaker 2: Radio Row. Maybe you'll get out there. I know our
- 36:06Speaker 2: friend Nittan is there living it up every day. It's
- 36:10Speaker 2: it's pretty cool to watch. Do you ever see yourself
- 36:12Speaker 2: on Radio Row covering this as a as a journalist?
- 36:15Speaker 2: And by the way, I should say, yesterday was Women
- 36:18Speaker 2: in Sports Day and I'm sure those kind of days
- 36:21Speaker 2: mean a lot to you as well, to see how
- 36:22Speaker 2: far you've come, uh in the business.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Yeah I did. I did see that, and it was
- 36:27Speaker 1: it was exciting to see that across social media. So
- 36:30Speaker 1: maybe really happy to know that women are being you know,
- 36:34Speaker 1: shouted out and you know, being allowed to follow their
- 36:38Speaker 1: dreams and you know all that good stuff.
- 36:42Speaker 2: All right, give us, because maybe people don't know my podcast,
- 36:44Speaker 2: give us your socials right now and tell us where
- 36:47Speaker 2: we can follow you and your writing.
- 36:49Speaker 1: You can follow me on Instagram and Twitter under Jordan Bodewin,
- 36:55Speaker 1: and it will be under random oh nine two four
- 36:59Speaker 1: oh two on Twitter, but Instagram is Jordan Underscore Bodwin Underscore,
- 37:05Speaker 1: and that's it.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Are either type to wake up in the middle of
- 37:09Speaker 2: the night and say, oh my god, I have an idea,
- 37:11Speaker 2: let me write down. I mean, that's how Jerry Seinbeld
- 37:13Speaker 2: did all of his jokes. He had all these things
- 37:15Speaker 2: by his bedstand writing his jokes. You feel the same
- 37:17Speaker 2: way about writing that, Oh my god, I have an idea,
- 37:19Speaker 2: I got to write down right now, yep, yep.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I usually I usually sleep with my phone next to me,
- 37:26Speaker 1: so if I do get an idea, I kind of
- 37:27Speaker 1: open it up and I start typing it out.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Favorite source that you like to go to and trust
- 37:33Speaker 2: that helps you with your writing.
- 37:36Speaker 1: I mostly, you know, I check them with Adam Schaeffer
- 37:38Speaker 1: for NFL, and I kind of mostly follow, you know,
- 37:41Speaker 1: when the news drops. I follow ESPN. So those are
- 37:46Speaker 1: all my sources that I usually use.
- 37:49Speaker 2: But I know from personal experience she accepts tips from
- 37:52Speaker 2: people everyday. People too, I'm like, you gotta jump on this,
- 37:55Speaker 2: and you write about it. I'm like, oh, that's cool.
- 37:57Speaker 2: I gave you that, you know, so you accept tips
- 37:59Speaker 2: from everybody, which is even better.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I think, Yeah, yeah, I do love and everybody gives
- 38:04Speaker 1: tips my way, so kind of makes me think about
- 38:08Speaker 1: it before I start writing it.
- 38:10Speaker 2: There you go, Well, Jordan Bodewin not Boardane, Okay, Bodewin. Awesome.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Finally gonna get you on my podcast and enjoy super
- 38:18Speaker 2: Bowl Week. I also can't believe that these Giants wins
- 38:21Speaker 2: happened fourteen years ago and sixteen years ago. Time's flying
- 38:27Speaker 2: too much here, Jordan, and I also want to see
- 38:29Speaker 2: another super Bowl before you know, too long anyway.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been too long. I feel like next year
- 38:36Speaker 1: might be a super Bowl year, if not just a
- 38:38Speaker 1: playoff here.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I'm so glad you brought that up. I can't. I
- 38:42Speaker 2: gotta ask you this as a follow up. Then the
- 38:44Speaker 2: pressure's on, I mean, there's no doubt about the Giants.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Pressure is on from the media. How scrutinized You think
- 38:51Speaker 2: this guy's gonna be on the sidelines every game, not
- 38:55Speaker 2: just day one, every game.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Every game? Yeah, I think I think he'll be scrutinized
- 39:00Speaker 1: almost all season long.
- 39:01Speaker 2: And what's your lease for John Hartball? Like, because you
- 39:04Speaker 2: you kind of give these guys a low leeway, and
- 39:06Speaker 2: then when you get pissed off, you write that too.
- 39:08Speaker 2: So what's your least? Because I feel like you also
- 39:10Speaker 2: understand this is his first year. You can't expect them
- 39:12Speaker 2: to be the savior right away.
- 39:14Speaker 1: No, you can't expect them to be the savior right
- 39:16Speaker 1: You got to give them time. I gave Dable, you know,
- 39:18Speaker 1: a couple of years. You know, after the playoff year,
- 39:21Speaker 1: I was, you know, kind of thinking about it, and
- 39:23Speaker 1: then we just started losing games left and right, and
- 39:26Speaker 1: I sat back on it, and then just watching every game,
- 39:29Speaker 1: it was like run the ball, run the ball, run
- 39:31Speaker 1: the ball. And I was like, I am so tired
- 39:33Speaker 1: of this. It doesn't work.
- 39:35Speaker 2: In the Buffalo game. Can we talk about that for
- 39:37Speaker 2: a second. The Buffalo game, yep, one yard line, you
- 39:40Speaker 2: have the pass interference bonus, and they still don't score.
- 39:44Speaker 2: I mean, that was the most frustrating part. I did,
- 39:46Speaker 2: the most frustrating game of Dable's tenure. Then, of course,
- 39:48Speaker 2: the misfilgos that would happen left and right, Nope, And
- 39:51Speaker 2: I started to think my conspiratorial brain and started to think,
- 39:55Speaker 2: are they blowing these games on purpose to get the
- 39:57Speaker 2: number one. You know, it starts to make you realize,
- 39:59Speaker 2: make think, how are we losing these games? It just
- 40:02Speaker 2: didn't make sense.
- 40:03Speaker 1: It didn't make sense. It didn't make sense at all.
- 40:06Speaker 1: It was it was a matter of watching you know,
- 40:10Speaker 1: the year before this past watching them in the red
- 40:13Speaker 1: zone was a complete disaster. But you know, going to
- 40:19Speaker 1: you know, the training camp and seeing how put together
- 40:24Speaker 1: they were before everything happened, you know, it kind of
- 40:28Speaker 1: gave me a little bit of hope for this season
- 40:30Speaker 1: and then you know, the season happened, and watching them
- 40:34Speaker 1: in the red zone this year, it was more intact,
- 40:37Speaker 1: but it wasn't enough, I'll put it that way to you.
- 40:43Speaker 2: And I think getting a special teams coach going to
- 40:45Speaker 2: be different because we don't want any more miss field goals.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Now.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Ironically, Tyler loops miss field goal kind of set I
- 40:52Speaker 2: think was the doom for John Harbaugh. But you know,
- 40:56Speaker 2: you got a different personnel in here well to see.
- 40:59Speaker 2: I never I said you were covering Matt Naggie, But
- 41:01Speaker 2: I want to get your thoughts on that real quick
- 41:03Speaker 2: because the ovens of coordinator was actually a big situation.
- 41:07Speaker 2: We thought it was going to be Tom Monk and
- 41:10Speaker 2: then he takes the deal with I think Cleveland, So
- 41:13Speaker 2: it's like, well, where do they go next? You know,
- 41:15Speaker 2: Naggi wasn't the best head coach with the with the Bears,
- 41:18Speaker 2: But what are your thoughts on him as oc with
- 41:20Speaker 2: the Giants? I mean, could he work with Dart in
- 41:22Speaker 2: a good way here?
- 41:23Speaker 1: I think I think it'll be. I think it'll be
- 41:25Speaker 1: different in a good way for this coming year. It'll
- 41:28Speaker 1: be it'll be something different, something to develop and you know,
- 41:33Speaker 1: figure out, you know, what can we do here? You know,
- 41:35Speaker 1: I have all the pieces to work with. You know,
- 41:39Speaker 1: you know they in the past, you know, the past
- 41:41Speaker 1: coaches couldn't put those pieces together. But this time around,
- 41:45Speaker 1: you know, maybe he'll be able to do it.
- 41:48Speaker 2: You know, we were spoiled, okay on the defensive end,
- 41:50Speaker 2: we were spoiled with Spagnolo for two super I think
- 41:54Speaker 2: it was superle both years, and we haven't gotten it
- 41:58Speaker 2: right since the defensive position. I loved Martindale also, but uh,
- 42:03Speaker 2: Spagnolo spoiled us, and I think that's why a Bowen
- 42:06Speaker 2: situation pissed us off, because like we're used to good defenses.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Where do they is there a defensive coordinator. I don't
- 42:12Speaker 2: even know. I haven't really even kept up with that
- 42:14Speaker 2: naming process yet.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Yeah, they have a believe Dinnard Wilson from the Titans
- 42:20Speaker 1: is their new defensive coach. So this should be something
- 42:25Speaker 1: interesting for this season.
- 42:27Speaker 2: And I'm sure I'm gonna be writing about it and
- 42:28Speaker 2: real fast. The collab we never thought would we'd see
- 42:32Speaker 2: coming h Robert sala At Dable, the both ex Giants
- 42:37Speaker 2: X and New York coaches teaming up in Tennessee. And
- 42:41Speaker 2: I'll tell you, put the both of their brains together,
- 42:44Speaker 2: maybe they have a shot. Because cam Ward's cam Ward's good, right,
- 42:48Speaker 2: I mean there could be something there.
- 42:49Speaker 1: There could be something there. Yeah, I mean he was
- 42:52Speaker 1: he was a number one pick.
- 42:54Speaker 2: So it just I think both of the way both
- 42:57Speaker 2: of them ended their tenures here, it'll be very I
- 42:59Speaker 2: don't you're gonna be watching as closely I might because
- 43:02Speaker 2: I want to see how the tandem works together. Having
- 43:04Speaker 2: both I don't know failed in New York. Could we
- 43:07Speaker 2: say that in a sense, I mean they both basically
- 43:08Speaker 2: fail in New York. So what do you think? I mean,
- 43:11Speaker 2: can we see something big from the Titans this year?
- 43:13Speaker 1: Uh? You know, I don't know that there could be
- 43:16Speaker 1: that possibility. I mean, they're also in the midst of
- 43:18Speaker 1: a team rebuilt too, But you know, we'll see what
- 43:21Speaker 1: happens with that.
- 43:22Speaker 2: I'm sure you'll be following it all because I feel
- 43:25Speaker 2: like football is your sport. I know you cover the
- 43:26Speaker 2: Devils too. And by the way, we gotta get another
- 43:30Speaker 2: episode on that because hockey it's a low weird in
- 43:34Speaker 2: New York and New Jersey right now. We all wanted
- 43:37Speaker 2: the other Hues brother here in New York and New Jersey.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Didn't happen?
- 43:41Speaker 1: Uh?
- 43:41Speaker 2: Could they make a playoff run though? Real quick?
- 43:45Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean they've they've had their ups
- 43:47Speaker 1: and their downs this season, so you know, it's it's
- 43:51Speaker 1: looking a little downward right now. But I'm sure we'll
- 43:54Speaker 1: see what happens. That's where I'm at. We'll see what happens.
- 43:57Speaker 2: And the other thing is when you right about these players,
- 44:00Speaker 2: not afraid to tag them either, even if it's the
- 44:02Speaker 2: worst criticism, like that kicker that I cut, you tag them.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I'm like, that's pretty savage, but that's that's a great trade, davage.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Like you're not afraid to call these guys out when
- 44:11Speaker 2: they need to be called out yep. So, uh, do
- 44:14Speaker 2: you get responses from players? That's my last question? Do
- 44:16Speaker 2: you get response from players? Hey? I like the way
- 44:19Speaker 2: you wrote, I don't like the way like. Do you
- 44:20Speaker 2: get responses at all? I?
- 44:22Speaker 1: I do not, but I believe when I was writing
- 44:26Speaker 1: for the New Jersey Blue Clause, I did get a
- 44:29Speaker 1: couple of responses from a couple of players, So that
- 44:31Speaker 1: was that was exciting for me. I'm actually still in
- 44:34Speaker 1: contact with one of them, so I'll be back at
- 44:37Speaker 1: the Blue Clothes this coming season just to you know,
- 44:39Speaker 1: see him play and see a couple other guys come
- 44:42Speaker 1: in and play again before they move up.
- 44:45Speaker 2: So all right, Jordan, Well, studying the NFL this whole
- 44:49Speaker 2: season long, do you want to make a prediction here
- 44:52Speaker 2: on the One look Up Network about this Sunday or
- 44:54Speaker 2: are you going to let it all play out?
- 44:57Speaker 1: I'm I'm gonna let it all play out. I I'm
- 45:00Speaker 1: gonna say go Seahawks because That's what I'm rooting for
- 45:04Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl, and other than that, we will
- 45:07Speaker 1: see what happens.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Should be entertaining as always, all right, Jordan follow her
- 45:12Speaker 2: work on NJA Sports and of course enforce the sport
- 45:16Speaker 2: and We'll be in touch, I'm sure, and we gotta
- 45:17Speaker 2: make the collap happen in person too, Yes, all right,
- 45:21Speaker 2: Jordan Bodoan, thanks so much for joining the One Leg
- 45:23Speaker 2: Up Network and keep adding one leg Up for New
- 45:25Speaker 2: Jersey ands in your writing.
- 45:30Speaker 1: You got it.
