Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This is football at four.
- 0:02Speaker 2: To watch Chicago go in there and physically offensively do
- 0:08Speaker 2: what they did to Philadelphia's defense, it felt like a
- 0:11Speaker 2: defense that knows the offense right now is not good
- 0:15Speaker 2: and they were just holding on. I have not seen
- 0:18Speaker 2: anybody push around the Philadelphia Eagles defense the way that
- 0:21Speaker 2: Chicago did. And so you're watching this defense almost like
- 0:24Speaker 2: break that there's nothing left for us to do. We've
- 0:26Speaker 2: tried to keep us in games as long as we can't.
- 0:29Speaker 3: That was Dad Orlowski talking about the defense. Is their
- 0:33Speaker 3: concerns with the defense? Is it a one time issue?
- 0:37Speaker 3: And he was talking about it like, hey, we're doing
- 0:40Speaker 3: everything we can, but you're not holding up your end
- 0:44Speaker 3: of the bargain. Offense. We're gonna get into that and more.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Is their concerns with the defense. So much about the
- 0:50Speaker 3: offense has been discussed, but let's talk about the defense.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Adam Kaplan from the Inside the Birds podcast, which you
- 0:57Speaker 3: can get on all podcasting platforms, and you know, he
- 1:00Speaker 3: talked about how physically beat up the Eagles got by
- 1:03Speaker 3: that Bears team. Is there a concern with this defense
- 1:07Speaker 3: or is it a one time thing?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Adam Kaplan, No, that's.
- 1:10Speaker 4: That's what I put in my notes. It's a great
- 1:12Speaker 4: question because it's the reality of it. This defensive performance
- 1:16Speaker 4: might came out of nowhere. The defense is playing such
- 1:18Speaker 4: a high level for a while now, and even better
- 1:21Speaker 4: with Jalen Phillips. So then, Mike, they got manhandled. We
- 1:25Speaker 4: talked about this, Jeff Motion and I talked about our
- 1:27Speaker 4: postgame show now on did they get moved a lot,
- 1:31Speaker 4: the lack of discipline up front? They got moved off
- 1:34Speaker 4: the ball. It was it was crazy to see them
- 1:37Speaker 4: being powered by the Bears offensive line. I know that
- 1:40Speaker 4: the Bears have a brand new interior. They're off to
- 1:42Speaker 4: the f line. Two guys are required by trade and
- 1:45Speaker 4: Drew Dolman was SUDN free agency. But they got manhandled.
- 1:48Speaker 4: This like doesn't happen. It's I believe on your question,
- 1:52Speaker 4: and I wanted to address this. We won't truly know
- 1:55Speaker 4: until we see what they look like against the Chargers
- 1:57Speaker 4: Monday night. I expct them to be fired up. I
- 2:00Speaker 4: strongly believe based on the coaching, which is simpically outstanding.
- 2:05Speaker 4: I expect them to come out really well. And we'll
- 2:09Speaker 4: talk more about this on Friday, Mike. But I think
- 2:12Speaker 4: it's a one time thing based on what I know
- 2:14Speaker 4: about how they're coached. Hunhart's a phenomenal defensive line coach,
- 2:18Speaker 4: was once a defensive coordinator for Seattle coach with Vic
- 2:21Speaker 4: and with the Bears. Vic, you know how great of
- 2:23Speaker 4: a coach he is and how great their staff is.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Their front seven was by far the worst that they've played,
- 2:29Speaker 4: Mike since they've been here. I mean it's been a
- 2:32Speaker 4: it was awful in two years that Vick has been
- 2:34Speaker 4: here with his staff. So I I just I don't
- 2:37Speaker 4: I know Danielllafki very well. I just couldn't disagree more.
- 2:40Speaker 4: It's not like mentally, oh well, you know, we're sick
- 2:43Speaker 4: and tired of of having to carry the load here,
- 2:46Speaker 4: so we're just gonna quit. No, that didn't happen. So
- 2:48Speaker 4: it's just but I do say this though, and maybe
- 2:51Speaker 4: Damn meant this. The linebackers and some of the assignments
- 2:57Speaker 4: on the on the front, on the front, Mike, they
- 3:00Speaker 4: did some things they normally wouldn't do. They they didn't
- 3:02Speaker 4: play their gaps correctly. I wouldn't say there was hero ball,
- 3:06Speaker 4: but they they had a lack of discipline in that game.
- 3:08Speaker 4: The tape showed it. I mean, I'm it's telling you.
- 3:10Speaker 4: I know that's the fact, and that's that is a concern.
- 3:13Speaker 4: And we've now we Mike, we've not seen that before
- 3:15Speaker 4: from this group.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Well, you know they have allowed three hundred and forty
- 3:18Speaker 3: eight yards through the air to the Cowboys, then two
- 3:21Speaker 3: hundred and eighty one yards on the ground to Chicago.
- 3:24Speaker 3: So they're getting beat in both aspects. Eight hundred and
- 3:27Speaker 3: ninety eight yards allowed over the.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Last two games.
- 3:30Speaker 3: It's the second most it's allowed in any two games
- 3:33Speaker 3: in the Sirianni era.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So they're getting beat by land ed by Sea.
- 3:36Speaker 4: It feels like, well, in the Dallas game, let's not
- 3:39Speaker 4: forget Dallas, Dallas's behind, they had to throw. Yes, they
- 3:42Speaker 4: egos got him. They got hit, They got hit hard
- 3:45Speaker 4: and opposite Jackson got hurt in that game. We have
- 3:48Speaker 4: we you know, we know that. So yeah they got it.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Look they got handled there and Caleb Wayants, by the way,
- 3:55Speaker 4: did that was probably the worst game. I know. The
- 3:58Speaker 4: win was bad. He had throw the ball well, Herston
- 4:02Speaker 4: throw the ball well. The passing games, as I told
- 4:04Speaker 4: you Friday, might be a problem. It was or whenever
- 4:08Speaker 4: we did our football four last week is on Wednesday
- 4:10Speaker 4: said the website gonna be bad. It was, But Mike,
- 4:13Speaker 4: as we move forward here, it's just a one game situition.
- 4:16Speaker 4: There's no reason to think based only the coach and
- 4:19Speaker 4: based on the effort or the guy the players usually
- 4:22Speaker 4: part of this game, that this is going to be
- 4:24Speaker 4: something we were really concerned about that. There's no reason
- 4:27Speaker 4: I think that because it's not happened before. But it's
- 4:29Speaker 4: certainly on my radar to keep an eye on.
- 4:31Speaker 1: So the defense a one time issue.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Okay, they got the Chargers coming up, by the way,
- 4:35Speaker 3: justin Herbert with that broken hand, We'll see what his
- 4:38Speaker 3: status looks like when Adam's back on Friday show. So
- 4:42Speaker 3: everyone's talking about the defense. What can we expect with
- 4:45Speaker 3: this offense going forward? What is missing offensively?
- 4:50Speaker 1: Everything?
- 4:52Speaker 4: Yeah? Well all right, I'm going to start for the
- 4:54Speaker 4: one thing we forgot to talk about this and the
- 4:57Speaker 4: shambled on us the small thing cut it's it's big
- 5:00Speaker 4: with ten Bigsby, I don't understand what like you're having
- 5:05Speaker 4: trouble moving the football, particularly running it. No one suggested
- 5:09Speaker 4: who has a brain that he should be taking over
- 5:11Speaker 4: the starting job. But why would you not give Bigsby
- 5:15Speaker 4: a little bit more of a role. I just don't
- 5:17Speaker 4: understand it. I don't understand you can't give him fifty
- 5:20Speaker 4: eight carries when you can't run the football. That to
- 5:23Speaker 4: me is bad coaching. I mean, Mike Barkley was okay
- 5:30Speaker 4: in this game, over four yards of carries, better than
- 5:32Speaker 4: he has been for most of the season. But they
- 5:35Speaker 4: need to use him as a change of Bigsby is
- 5:37Speaker 4: such a contrast and styled. I just I was flabbergasses, like,
- 5:41Speaker 4: what are you guys doing here? You can't you have
- 5:43Speaker 4: trouble scoring, it's windy, you can't throw it. Do better, man.
- 5:48Speaker 4: That's just that's the stuff that Patula and Syrianic control.
- 5:51Speaker 4: That's that's inexcusable to me that he didn't get more work.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Well, yeah, he had nine carries in that game against
- 5:57Speaker 3: the Giants, and really since then you would think that maybe, look,
- 6:00Speaker 3: he added a little spark to this run game at
- 6:02Speaker 3: over one hundreds they have really I don't think he
- 6:03Speaker 3: has nine carries total since that game.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Ridiculous, Mike, that's bad coaching to me. That that that again,
- 6:10Speaker 4: control the controllables, they have control over that. That everyone
- 6:14Speaker 4: who's an Eagles fan knows this Bixby's got some choice,
- 6:17Speaker 4: he gives them. Why do they make the trade then?
- 6:20Speaker 4: And by the way, he's signing me. And we told
- 6:22Speaker 4: you it was nonsense that some of the reports were
- 6:24Speaker 4: put out that they they brought him into be a
- 6:26Speaker 4: kickoff turner was complete nonsense. That would be part of it.
- 6:29Speaker 4: They wanted him because AJ Dillon. That turned out to
- 6:32Speaker 4: be correct. The AJ Dillon was not good enough. He
- 6:36Speaker 4: wasn't consistent enough. And now he's been benched and AJ
- 6:38Speaker 4: Dillon's not good enough kickoff returner anyway. By the way,
- 6:41Speaker 4: Dylan's on a one year deal. Bigsby has this year
- 6:43Speaker 4: next year left so he could play. Man. I mean,
- 6:47Speaker 4: you got you gotta get something out of the guy,
- 6:48Speaker 4: and I don't. This is just bad. This is just
- 6:50Speaker 4: not good coaching.
- 6:51Speaker 1: What do we think about Adam kaplan football at four? Here?
- 6:55Speaker 1: Getting hurts a little bit more comfortable.
- 6:57Speaker 3: How can they get that possibly to get his confidence going?
- 7:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and I've already I've talked to you, Mike uh
- 7:03Speaker 4: Ad nauseum. Really now, for two seasons, Kelimore didn't do
- 7:06Speaker 4: a good job of this till late in the season.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Get it hurts comfort early in games, get him comfortable
- 7:10Speaker 4: with easy passes. Uh, that that's got to happen. But
- 7:14Speaker 4: the other two things I'm gonna add here continue with
- 7:17Speaker 4: the change up of hurts under center boy that did
- 7:20Speaker 4: really well, more of tempo like that as well, and
- 7:25Speaker 4: the design runs Listen, We'll never know for sure. I'm
- 7:30Speaker 4: not gonna even expect like I don't know, nobody else knows.
- 7:33Speaker 4: It hurts that he he doesn't want to like McNabb
- 7:35Speaker 4: what I had heard back many obviously when he was
- 7:38Speaker 4: an Eagle and the second half of his career with Eagles,
- 7:40Speaker 4: that he didn't want to run as much. And plus hurts.
- 7:43Speaker 4: I mean McNabb had been beat up with injury, teveral
- 7:46Speaker 4: injuries over his career, so and he didn't want to
- 7:49Speaker 4: run as much as what I was told back then.
- 7:50Speaker 4: This is GOI mech obviously a couple of decades. But
- 7:53Speaker 4: it hurts. Don't know, but man and he definitely adds
- 7:58Speaker 4: something they seemed to only o. The gun run on
- 8:02Speaker 4: a clear and it's worked, by the way, and there's
- 8:05Speaker 4: gun runs on shotgun with empty SATs like on with
- 8:09Speaker 4: empty That means why no one in the backfield. He's
- 8:13Speaker 4: got red seed parting Mike it's actually really work pretty well.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I would like to see Adam.
- 8:18Speaker 3: You know, let's say they go three and out and
- 8:20Speaker 3: that happens every now and then, not the rate that
- 8:23Speaker 3: they generally do. Hey, we went three and out last series.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Let's let's we'll run a little tempo, let's run a
- 8:28Speaker 3: little Harry up after. You know, they don't seem to
- 8:31Speaker 3: have a little change of pace at all. They don't
- 8:34Speaker 3: run the screen game at all. That's another way they
- 8:36Speaker 3: can get creative and get guys touches.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Another thing in my notes, Mike, when they've run it's
- 8:42Speaker 4: actually not been too bad. I'm just this is like,
- 8:47Speaker 4: you know, we've we've shut our offense on around the league.
- 8:51Speaker 4: When we talk to people on our show that people
- 8:53Speaker 4: we talked to set it's a bad offense, it's a
- 8:55Speaker 4: bad scheme. Well, again, this is something they control, Mike.
- 9:00Speaker 4: They do very little that other teams do that it's
- 9:03Speaker 4: just normal. And it's nothing to with Sean McVay and
- 9:05Speaker 4: trying to be different that that's not what I'm talking about.
- 9:08Speaker 4: I'm talking about just staples of an NFL offense in
- 9:12Speaker 4: the twentieth century. I just don't understand this, don't give
- 9:15Speaker 4: me that Hurts can't handle it. That's nonsense. I'm not
- 9:18Speaker 4: buying that, that the vanilla stuff anymore with oh, you know,
- 9:21Speaker 4: you can only do certain stuff with Hurts. There's certain
- 9:23Speaker 4: things any NFL starting quarterback can do. Or by the way,
- 9:26Speaker 4: you shouldn't be playing if you feel you can't do it.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Is there, you know, Sirianni said.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Everybody will be evaluated all the stuff, and then it's hey,
- 9:36Speaker 3: you made the evaluations. Are there any changes? I don't
- 9:39Speaker 3: know what they could change. Is there any change players?
- 9:43Speaker 3: Something they could do, even something on a minor level
- 9:47Speaker 3: that might unlock something here.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Well, look, a coach from another team gave me something
- 9:54Speaker 4: really interesting. He doesn't know, Sirianni, but he said, when
- 9:57Speaker 4: coaches are struggling sometimes and I'm not saying Nick is
- 10:01Speaker 4: doing this, to be clear, sometimes they actually they limit
- 10:06Speaker 4: how much access from the coaches have to the quarterback,
- 10:09Speaker 4: where maybe sometimes there are too many voices. We talked
- 10:12Speaker 4: about this in twenty twenty Mike on Football four on
- 10:15Speaker 4: an odd platform as well, that it was so Marty
- 10:18Speaker 4: morning Wog believe or not. I don't know if you
- 10:20Speaker 4: know this. Marty was a consult quarterback. Consult for Hurts.
- 10:23Speaker 4: He was actually there. He was with the quarterbacks, but
- 10:25Speaker 4: working a lot with Hurts in twenty twenty. All these
- 10:28Speaker 4: guys that they have Rich Gangerell who I debate whether
- 10:32Speaker 4: even Peterson wanted them too many cooks in the kitchen.
- 10:36Speaker 4: So maybe he's got it's a great question, Mike. Maybe
- 10:39Speaker 4: he's got a limit. Maybe he's got to just just
- 10:42Speaker 4: limit this stuff and just come up with a couple
- 10:45Speaker 4: of people involved and just get Hurts going here, Mike,
- 10:49Speaker 4: they are eating for their game and a half up.
- 10:51Speaker 4: I know Dallas has got momentum now. Those trades are
- 10:54Speaker 4: working out for them, but they're healthy at offense, Mike,
- 10:58Speaker 4: other than Lane Johnson. This is absolutely embarrassing. And as
- 11:01Speaker 4: one quote from another team told me, he used to
- 11:04Speaker 4: work for the Eagles too, said that Jeffrey Laurie must
- 11:06Speaker 4: be embarrassed and upset about what he's seeing because he
- 11:08Speaker 4: wants a world class offense. He's getting anti work class years.
- 11:12Speaker 3: He's getting a good ac JFL football offense. By the way,
- 11:16Speaker 3: a couple of quick notes, Darius Slay has been released
- 11:19Speaker 3: by the Steelers. Any interest there or they do have
- 11:23Speaker 3: a need it, Let me.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Go inside, let me exclime. Explain. Okay, so here's what
- 11:26Speaker 4: I'm told. He was benched, he didn't play last week.
- 11:29Speaker 4: He's healthy. One source told me he didn't really fit
- 11:33Speaker 4: their scheme. It's Mike Tomlins defensive scheme that they're running there.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Mike doesn't run it, but someone else is running it
- 11:39Speaker 4: for him. But it's just he didn't really fit. He
- 11:42Speaker 4: doesn't move all that well. He's near the end. He's
- 11:45Speaker 4: definitely lost a step now. He obviously knows that the
- 11:49Speaker 4: system from Banjo obviously want a super Bowl with it.
- 11:52Speaker 4: He's near the end Mic if he clears waivers now.
- 11:56Speaker 4: One person said to me, it would not be surprising
- 11:59Speaker 4: if he took the deal that Adam Feeling got to
- 12:01Speaker 4: be released because he has to be released slated, then
- 12:04Speaker 4: he has to take a pay cup. You know, he's
- 12:06Speaker 4: making eleven million, which is pro rated, but to get released,
- 12:09Speaker 4: typically they're going to ask you to take a pickup.
- 12:11Speaker 4: We're doing you a favor. Well, we're going to release,
- 12:13Speaker 4: then you got to take a pay cut. Yeah, that
- 12:15Speaker 4: could actually make his contract more claimable. He subject to waivers.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Every player who's cut putting bested veterans are subject to waivers.
- 12:22Speaker 4: There for the trade dadline. So, Mike, here's the thing.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Huh if you're the Eagles, Well, first of all, you'd
- 12:29Speaker 4: rather you wouldn't want to claim him, you'd rather just
- 12:32Speaker 4: bring him in and and sign him to your practice squad.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Why is that? Why you don't have to feel you
- 12:38Speaker 4: don't keep him when you're fifty three? And lets you know,
- 12:41Speaker 4: they what he looks like that way, there's no monetarily
- 12:43Speaker 4: gets only gets as a practice cud salary. But we're
- 12:46Speaker 4: we're looking into it. But Mike, if I'm Howie, what
- 12:50Speaker 4: is what is the harm? He's a good teammate. I
- 12:54Speaker 4: know he turns thirty five in January. He's the oldest
- 12:57Speaker 4: cornerback of the National Football League by far, But but
- 13:00Speaker 4: what what do they have to loose at this point?
- 13:02Speaker 4: Jackson's not good enough?
- 13:03Speaker 1: We know that.
- 13:04Speaker 4: What did they have to loose by bringing in and
- 13:05Speaker 4: take a looking at taking a look at him?
- 13:07Speaker 1: All right?
- 13:07Speaker 3: Good inside stuff there By the way, it just announced
- 13:09Speaker 3: December twentieth, Philadelphia, Washington. That will be a five o'clock kickoff.
- 13:14Speaker 3: That is the Saturday game against the Commanders, a five
- 13:19Speaker 3: pm kickoff. Adam kaplan everybody back on Friday. We'll get
- 13:24Speaker 3: you ready for the Eagles and the Chargers.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Thanks Adam, you got it.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 13:28Speaker 3: There he is Adam Kaplan Football at four powered by
- 13:32Speaker 3: the Inside of the Birds podcast
