- 0:09Speaker 1: What's up, everybody?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome back to another episode of Bucco Territory, presented to
- 0:13Speaker 2: you by the Foul Territory Network. I'm Noah Hiles joining
- 0:16Speaker 2: me as always on this show. Arma two co hosts,
- 0:19Speaker 2: Josh Harrison and Platinum Key aka Mark. It's Wednesday, so
- 0:23Speaker 2: we have the mail bag and we're gonna switch it
- 0:26Speaker 2: up like we did last week.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It was all trade ideas.
- 0:29Speaker 2: We gave our own trade target ideas last Wednesday. This Wednesday,
- 0:34Speaker 2: we are taking years. I sent out a tweet on
- 0:37Speaker 2: Tuesday morning asking for some just desired trade targets. We're
- 0:41Speaker 2: not gonna get into the nuances that go into an
- 0:44Speaker 2: exact trade recommendation or idea or suggestion, but more who
- 0:50Speaker 2: do pirates fans have on their wish list? And we
- 0:53Speaker 2: skimmed through it. We each picked one guy we like
- 0:56Speaker 2: and we're gonna break it down segment by segment. We're
- 0:58Speaker 2: gonna start with Josh's guy, then the second segment will
- 1:01Speaker 2: be Mark's guy.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Third guy or third guy will.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Be presented by me in the third and final segment,
- 1:07Speaker 2: and yeah, we'll just go back and forth and we'll
- 1:10Speaker 2: get into it right now. Josh, you have the floor
- 1:12Speaker 2: who is the first pirates trade target that stood out
- 1:16Speaker 2: to you?
- 1:18Speaker 3: So I'm looking at all three guys, John Ryan and
- 1:22Speaker 3: I'm sorry bird Be may not be a guy. Sorry
- 1:26Speaker 3: if you aren't, I apologize. But Garrett Whitlocke was the
- 1:30Speaker 3: name that popped out to me just from a standpoint Boston.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Boston's going through some things. Relief pitching is what ice
- 1:39Speaker 3: one of the things that I highlighted last week when
- 1:41Speaker 3: we covered, you know, some potential areas of need trade
- 1:44Speaker 3: targets and the last two years, I think twenty four
- 1:47Speaker 3: he was hurt, but twenty five and so far this
- 1:49Speaker 3: year he's been a pretty dependable arm and having really
- 1:52Speaker 3: good numbers and in a bullpen as we've you know,
- 1:57Speaker 3: continued to talk about. As you know, I was on
- 2:00Speaker 3: family vacation this past week, but I did happen to
- 2:02Speaker 3: see you know a little bit, you know, still kind
- 2:05Speaker 3: of having some issues just rightfully. So that was a
- 2:10Speaker 3: name that popped out. When I saw three of them,
- 2:12Speaker 3: you know, mentioned Whitlocke, it was kind of like, okay, yeah,
- 2:16Speaker 3: I agree, you know, never faced to myself, but you know,
- 2:20Speaker 3: when when it's hard to look at those numbers, what
- 2:22Speaker 3: he's done, the past year and a half, and then
- 2:25Speaker 3: you know, look at the bullpen of what the pirates
- 2:27Speaker 3: have been running out there. This is a guy that
- 2:29Speaker 3: is sinker slider. I think Change Up is gonna get outs.
- 2:33Speaker 3: He's going to pitch to his own and you know,
- 2:36Speaker 3: you don't see too many sinker Slider guys. You know,
- 2:38Speaker 3: when everybody's worried about pumping Vlo, pumping vlow, you need
- 2:41Speaker 3: guys that are gonna come out the paying and get outs.
- 2:43Speaker 3: And you know, just looking through his body of work
- 2:47Speaker 3: the past year and a half, as I mentioned, I
- 2:48Speaker 3: think it was injured in twenty four, he's doing pretty well.
- 2:52Speaker 3: And I think he's gonna be a named that is
- 2:56Speaker 3: probably going to be talked about, not just you know,
- 2:59Speaker 3: amongst us three, but you know throughout the course of
- 3:01Speaker 3: you know, this next month or whatever. But that that
- 3:05Speaker 3: was my guy that I saw. And I mean not
- 3:08Speaker 3: two long horn, but the fact that all three of
- 3:09Speaker 3: them and then bird be that was their only person.
- 3:12Speaker 3: So you know, it kind of confirmed. Okay, I'm not
- 3:16Speaker 3: the only one that is, you know, thinking that what
- 3:19Speaker 3: Lock could be a you know, nice target. What about you, guys,
- 3:22Speaker 3: what do you think?
- 3:25Speaker 4: God Mark uh one point zero five whip is where
- 3:28Speaker 4: he's at right now this year. That really stands out
- 3:30Speaker 4: to me. For a Pirates bullpen that has struggled to
- 3:34Speaker 4: keep base runners off the base pass, having a guy
- 3:37Speaker 4: that can come in and limit that would be really,
- 3:39Speaker 4: really nice. My only concern about Whitlock is as far
- 3:44Speaker 4: as what would the Pirates do after this year. He
- 3:47Speaker 4: has two club options following this year, one at like
- 3:50Speaker 4: eight and a half or just around eight million, another
- 3:52Speaker 4: for ten million and twenty twenty eight, And I don't
- 3:55Speaker 4: know if the Pirates are willing to spend that much.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I'm a reliever they might be, but that would be
- 4:01Speaker 4: a concern that kind of gets up there as far
- 4:04Speaker 4: as the Pirates price range. I think that's perfectly fair
- 4:07Speaker 4: value for the production he's had. I think he'd probably
- 4:11Speaker 4: get more than that as a free agent, honestly, So
- 4:14Speaker 4: maybe the value based aspect of it would encourage the
- 4:16Speaker 4: Pirates to keep him. But I think that is at
- 4:19Speaker 4: least something to throw out there as you know, a caution,
- 4:22Speaker 4: because it might be a little too pricey for the
- 4:25Speaker 4: Pirates taste.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely could see how that could be a little
- 4:30Speaker 3: not a rope, but definitely something that work concerned for sure.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, of the three guys that we're going to talk
- 4:37Speaker 2: about on today's show, I think with Locke would and
- 4:39Speaker 2: I don't know this, I don't even know who represents
- 4:43Speaker 2: him as far as agency is concerned.
- 4:44Speaker 1: But.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I think he would probably have the highest chance of
- 4:48Speaker 2: a no trade clause out of all the guys we're
- 4:50Speaker 2: going to talk about today. So that's definitely something worth considering,
- 4:55Speaker 2: especially with those two club options. Like if he has
- 4:58Speaker 2: a no trade clause in the Pirates are on it,
- 5:01Speaker 2: you're gonna have to probably do a little bit like, hey,
- 5:04Speaker 2: they they could keep me for the next two years.
- 5:06Speaker 1: This isn't just a rental thing. But man, I mean
- 5:10Speaker 1: there's a ton to like.
- 5:11Speaker 2: I think he's one of the best right handed relievers
- 5:13Speaker 2: in baseball, probably the most underrated. I mean, you look,
- 5:16Speaker 2: he's in the ninety nine percent tile and Chase he
- 5:18Speaker 2: gets that good extension in ninety six percent tile. The
- 5:21Speaker 2: Pirates love that fly fly ball hitter or pitcher. But
- 5:25Speaker 2: you look, I mean, guys aren't hitting him hard average
- 5:28Speaker 2: exon VELAs he's eighty six point eight, the barrel rate
- 5:33Speaker 2: is only at five point six percent, so he's inducing
- 5:37Speaker 2: soft contact.
- 5:38Speaker 1: No one's squaring him up. He doesn't walk a lot
- 5:41Speaker 1: of guys.
- 5:41Speaker 2: As K percentage is twenty nine point one percent, his
- 5:44Speaker 2: walk rate is five point five percent. Only thirty percent
- 5:48Speaker 2: of the balls hit against him are hard hit. Like,
- 5:51Speaker 2: this is a really really good pitcher. He's probably going
- 5:56Speaker 2: to get traded. He's just gonna have a high price tag.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I mean, I would probably pay more for this guy
- 6:02Speaker 2: than I would have rolled as Chapman. Honestly, if I'm
- 6:05Speaker 2: the Pirates now, if I'm a different team than probably not.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But for what the Pirates need.
- 6:10Speaker 2: I mean, this dude's only twenty six years old, and
- 6:13Speaker 2: Mark you mentioned the two option years. The one club
- 6:16Speaker 2: option I think is like eight and a half million.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I don't think that's unreasonable.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I mean, the Pirates are going to have a lot
- 6:24Speaker 2: of money tied up into their pitching with Skeins going
- 6:26Speaker 2: into arbitration next year and Mitch Keller's salary is obviously
- 6:32Speaker 2: going to go up.
- 6:32Speaker 1: But I don't know.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I mean eight million for an all star level closer,
- 6:38Speaker 2: which this guy. I mean, he's not a closer, but
- 6:40Speaker 2: he would probably be the closer on this team. I'd
- 6:43Speaker 2: be fine with it. So yeah, it's just what are
- 6:46Speaker 2: you willing to give up for him? And are you
- 6:47Speaker 2: able to outbid these other teams, like if say the
- 6:50Speaker 2: Dodgers for him, which why the hell wouldn't they because
- 6:56Speaker 2: when you look like that eight and ten million option
- 6:59Speaker 2: or whatever those opens years are, I don't have them
- 7:01Speaker 2: in front of me.
- 7:02Speaker 1: That's nothing. To them, that's a drop in the bucket.
- 7:04Speaker 2: So uh, they would be more than Okay, I think
- 7:08Speaker 2: giving up a little bit more than the Pirates would
- 7:11Speaker 2: because to them, it's not a rental, it's it's a
- 7:15Speaker 2: guy that you're gonna depend on in the back of
- 7:17Speaker 2: your bullpen, which I guess would be the weakness of
- 7:20Speaker 2: that team. And that's just one example. I mean, the
- 7:22Speaker 2: Braves could go get this guy. There's literally every team
- 7:25Speaker 2: in baseball it's looking for a recompetitive pitcher, competitor.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, and I.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Just looked it up. It's eight point twenty five and
- 7:34Speaker 3: then ten and a half.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, like ten and a half. I don't know
- 7:38Speaker 2: if the Pirates are going to do that. Maybe you
- 7:39Speaker 2: sign him, you take the option next year and then
- 7:42Speaker 2: try to flip them.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Or something, but like, I don't know.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I this is absolutely the perfect type of player that
- 7:49Speaker 2: they should be pursuing.
- 7:50Speaker 1: It's just what are you willing to give up to
- 7:52Speaker 1: get him? And does it make the sense?
- 7:54Speaker 2: Does it make sense to give up anything significant for
- 7:59Speaker 2: a a player that is just a reliever and be
- 8:03Speaker 2: for a team that's five hundred. So that's the question.
- 8:07Speaker 2: But I mean, I love that, so yeah, I love
- 8:09Speaker 2: that suggestion. I think texts a lot of boxes. So
- 8:14Speaker 2: we're gonna take a quick break when we come back.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Mark will give his trade target that you guys recommended,
- 8:20Speaker 2: one that caught his eye when we come back on
- 8:22Speaker 2: Bucco Territory.
- 8:25Speaker 5: A s Geek is MLB's official ticket marketplace, and in
- 8:29Speaker 5: addition to finding every single game on the MLB calendar,
- 8:33Speaker 5: there are big events coming up.
- 8:36Speaker 6: An All Star game, there's a home run derby. And
- 8:38Speaker 6: if you think you're perfect and you can pick the
- 8:40Speaker 6: right seat at the home run derby to get the
- 8:42Speaker 6: most home run balls, you can get the little green
- 8:44Speaker 6: dot and that might be your lucky seat. Don't go
- 8:46Speaker 6: red dot though, because you might not get any balls,
- 8:48Speaker 6: but go redgreen dot and get as many home run
- 8:51Speaker 6: balls as you think you can catch.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Yep, you click the seat, you check out what your
- 8:55Speaker 5: view is each ticket's rated on a scale of one
- 8:57Speaker 5: to ten, so you know you're getting a good deal.
- 8:59Speaker 5: And that's what AJ's talking about. Green good, Red Bad
- 9:02Speaker 5: with those dots and the code for you Territory one

- 9:20Speaker 5: automatically added to your account so that you can use
- 9:22Speaker 5: it later. Thank you to Zekeeek.
- 9:27Speaker 4: All right, now on to our next one, which is
- 9:30Speaker 4: going to be Hunter Goodman, another player who we had
- 9:35Speaker 4: three different people suggest that the pirates should go after
- 9:39Speaker 4: and trade for Hunter Goodman. And the more I looked
- 9:43Speaker 4: into it, the more I really really like this guy.
- 9:46Speaker 4: So if you're not too familiar, Hunter Goodman doesn't necessarily
- 9:48Speaker 4: have the name recognition, mostly because he's just on the
- 9:53Speaker 4: Colorado Rockies and he has twenty six home runs this year.
- 9:58Speaker 4: And you're thinking, oh, twenty six home runs for a
- 10:00Speaker 4: guy who hits at corps half the time, it's got
- 10:03Speaker 4: just be cors Field. No, he only has eight home
- 10:06Speaker 4: runs at cors Field this year, he would have eighteen
- 10:10Speaker 4: home runs if he played every game at P and
- 10:11Speaker 4: C Park, So a little regression if he were to
- 10:14Speaker 4: play in a bigger ballpark at P and C. But
- 10:18Speaker 4: I just feel like he doesn't really fit the Rockies
- 10:21Speaker 4: timeline as far as their rebuild goes, and he really
- 10:26Speaker 4: fits with the Pirates need, which is a starting catcher.
- 10:30Speaker 4: This guy just absolutely mashes. Isn't a defensive liability, not
- 10:35Speaker 4: like above average defense by any means, but good enough
- 10:38Speaker 4: to stick at catcher. He has an eighty one OPS
- 10:42Speaker 4: against left handed pitching this year. If you look at
- 10:45Speaker 4: Andy Rodriguez, who has played really well, Andy's zero for
- 10:49Speaker 4: fourteen this year against left handed pitching only has a
- 10:54Speaker 4: a one to seventy six OPS right now, And so
- 10:58Speaker 4: you can at least improve that aspect where you're not
- 11:02Speaker 4: just like getting nothing that catcher against left handed pitching.
- 11:07Speaker 4: While also adding he basically this guy is basically Brandon
- 11:10Speaker 4: Laue if he could play catcher. If you look at
- 11:13Speaker 4: their study. Yeah, yeah, go ahead, chumping.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I was just just say you, this is a catcher
- 11:17Speaker 1: that you d.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Not catching right exactly, Yes, for sure. One and he's
- 11:23Speaker 4: only twenty six. He's in He's about to enter his
- 11:26Speaker 4: first year of arbitration, so he's under team control. He's
- 11:29Speaker 4: not going to reach free agency until twenty thirty, which
- 11:33Speaker 4: is exactly what you want if you're the Pirates. Uh.
- 11:36Speaker 4: The only encounter of that is it's going to be
- 11:39Speaker 4: a big, big priced tag. This guy's about to probably
- 11:42Speaker 4: be a make his second All Star team. Consistently improving
- 11:46Speaker 4: at the play each year just mashes and so you're
- 11:51Speaker 4: gonna have to really pay up. I think the Rockies
- 11:53Speaker 4: would be interested in pitching, really their biggest weakness right now.
- 11:59Speaker 4: I don't know if he wanted to throw like a
- 12:01Speaker 4: Jared Jones or a Carmen Macjinski out. I think that'd
- 12:05Speaker 4: be probably a starting spot. I don't know if Jared
- 12:07Speaker 4: Jones would be like enough to get it done for
- 12:09Speaker 4: Hunter Goodman. Yeah, I don't know what are you laughing at, Noah,
- 12:16Speaker 4: just I.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Love to see Jared's face if.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Yeah, to Colorado?
- 12:22Speaker 1: Yeah, literally might kill someone?
- 12:24Speaker 4: Yeah yeah probably yeah, but yeah, so, I mean I
- 12:28Speaker 4: think Hunter Goodman would just be such a great fit.
- 12:31Speaker 4: He would be a guy like Brandon Lau, except you
- 12:35Speaker 4: know that he's going to be on this team for
- 12:37Speaker 4: the next few years, and that would be worth paying
- 12:41Speaker 4: a large price for. He seems like he's not going
- 12:45Speaker 4: to regress or anything, So I think he'd be a
- 12:48Speaker 4: great fit. What do you think, Josh, I don't disagree.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Even last week. I think catching, and as we continue
- 12:58Speaker 3: to go forward, catching his thing that we talked about.
- 13:01Speaker 3: That is an area that needs improvement. But we also
- 13:03Speaker 3: talk about the dynamic of the catcher and being traded
- 13:06Speaker 3: you know, midseason. But it can happen obviously if the
- 13:09Speaker 3: you know right deal is made. But he checks a
- 13:12Speaker 3: lot of boxes because offensively, you know, we know what
- 13:15Speaker 3: has happened, you know, from the catching standpoint. Obviously, Indy
- 13:18Speaker 3: facing righty's has been good, better, better than what they
- 13:22Speaker 3: were getting. But left handed is still you know, facing
- 13:25Speaker 3: left handed pitchers. You know, you have to be able
- 13:28Speaker 3: to take advantage of those guys when you're trying to
- 13:31Speaker 3: create matchups. And he's a guy, as you said, when
- 13:34Speaker 3: he's not catching, he's gonna d h And I was
- 13:37Speaker 3: on family vacation. I saw his game in Minnesota. I
- 13:40Speaker 3: think those balls are home runs at PNC as well. Yeah,
- 13:44Speaker 3: so you know, he checks a lot of boxes and
- 13:47Speaker 3: he seems like a guy just watching them seems like
- 13:50Speaker 3: a guy that's starting to get not starting to but
- 13:53Speaker 3: you know, really believing, you know, he's as good as
- 13:57Speaker 3: he is. You know, it's guys, you know, getting that confidence,
- 14:01Speaker 3: and you know, for him to continue to continue that
- 14:03Speaker 3: offensive production is obviously gonna help him as he furthers
- 14:09Speaker 3: his career. But you know, I think it's a move
- 14:11Speaker 3: that obviously, if the Pirates could make, they would be
- 14:14Speaker 3: willing to because obviously catching is an area that we've
- 14:17Speaker 3: hit on and that's what they're gonna need. And I
- 14:20Speaker 3: don't want to keep saying it, but I said it
- 14:22Speaker 3: last week when somebody said that's what they would be
- 14:25Speaker 3: going for. And if you don't want to test free
- 14:26Speaker 3: agency and feel like you want to spend money, you're
- 14:30Speaker 3: gonna have to find a way to As you said,
- 14:32Speaker 3: if they want some major league ready pitching, you're gonna
- 14:35Speaker 3: have to, you know, maybe inquire about that and see
- 14:38Speaker 3: what can happen. But if you're truly serious about locking
- 14:41Speaker 3: up something behind the plate, I think he's probably your
- 14:44Speaker 3: best candidate. I don't think you. I mean, there's some
- 14:47Speaker 3: other guys out there, but I think as far as
- 14:49Speaker 3: if you're trying to not really feel like you want
- 14:51Speaker 3: to go into the pocket and you want to get
- 14:53Speaker 3: creative and not have to worry about I mentioned Adli
- 14:55Speaker 3: Rutchman last week. Obviously he's a little bit more price
- 14:58Speaker 3: here on the money books. You on the books, So
- 15:02Speaker 3: you know, I think it's a a I don't want
- 15:05Speaker 3: to say win win, but I agree it's not really
- 15:08Speaker 3: fitting their timeline for the rebuild. So you they might
- 15:10Speaker 3: as well see what they can get for him, and
- 15:12Speaker 3: you know, help the team that's trying to push, and
- 15:14Speaker 3: Pirates seem like a team that could line up with it.
- 15:16Speaker 3: But I'm sure there's some other teams as well.
- 15:21Speaker 1: So you said he's got two more years of arbor three.
- 15:24Speaker 4: He enters free agency.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Right before eight nine, so he hasn't even hit arb yet. Ye,
- 15:34Speaker 2: and you're looking at a guy who's probably gonna have
- 15:36Speaker 2: a four war season this year, So let's just assume
- 15:39Speaker 2: conservatively the next three years he's worth ten to twelve
- 15:44Speaker 2: war and you have that all under arbitration. I mean,
- 15:50Speaker 2: you're looking at a very expensive freight target. So and
- 15:57Speaker 2: I think the Pirates, ironically they're prospect capital fits Colorado's timeline.
- 16:03Speaker 2: You look at their top two prospects. These are guys
- 16:05Speaker 2: who aren't gonna be up in no. Two to three years.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Those are probably That's probably the type of return Colorado
- 16:13Speaker 2: is looking to get if they trade Hunter Goodman this
- 16:17Speaker 2: year is an in position, be damned.
- 16:19Speaker 1: It's more just we want guys in like low way,
- 16:22Speaker 1: but like our high high sing guys. Yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 2: And so it's like, are you willing to give up
- 16:29Speaker 2: Edward Florentino for this? Are you willing to give up
- 16:32Speaker 2: Seth Hernandez for this? I'd probably say yes, closer to Florentino.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Than I'm not giving for.
- 16:40Speaker 3: I can't.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, just because Seth Fernandoz has got to replace
- 16:45Speaker 2: Paul Schames exactly.
- 16:47Speaker 1: That's just how it's gonna go.
- 16:48Speaker 4: You can't get pictures on the open market as the
- 16:50Speaker 4: Pittsburgh Pirates. You need these young, controllable pictures.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Like for Florentino.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Florentino is gonna be good, But I mean, will he
- 17:00Speaker 2: be better than Hunter Goodman?
- 17:02Speaker 6: Right? I don't know?
- 17:03Speaker 4: Will he line up with the window where yeah the
- 17:06Speaker 4: Pirates are actually yeah in a playoff?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Well Goodman can make your starting pitching better. It's like,
- 17:12Speaker 2: but it's gonna probably I would have to assume, like
- 17:15Speaker 2: considering just some of the Like I look at a
- 17:18Speaker 2: guy like Mason Miller last year, he was a totally
- 17:21Speaker 2: different position, Like he was traded from the number three
- 17:24Speaker 2: prospect in baseball last ye and it's because of how
- 17:29Speaker 2: much control he had remaining and the value that he'd had.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Goodman is a more valuable player than Mason. Yeah, h Miller.
- 17:38Speaker 4: So I don't se that's just hitting third.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Year giving up You're giving up probably Florentino and something else.
- 17:45Speaker 2: And it could be maybe like by Sterling and Antoine Kelly,
- 17:49Speaker 2: or you can.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Maybe like a Christian Curtis or something or.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Who knows, who knows, Like it's and it's not worth
- 17:54Speaker 2: speculating too much over. But like I don't think he's
- 17:58Speaker 2: probably to say, that would probably be the most the
- 18:01Speaker 2: Pirates have given in a trade since.
- 18:06Speaker 4: Yeah eighteen, the one.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't have to talk about that anymore. Yeah,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and I yeah, yeah. So it's it's a it's a
- 18:20Speaker 1: very enticing thing. I mean, it would be a bold move.
- 18:23Speaker 2: It's a huge gamble, and it's probably one I would
- 18:26Speaker 2: consider depending on the price. But like you just got
- 18:29Speaker 2: to know, it's like that's a guy where if you're
- 18:31Speaker 2: training for him, like you better keep.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Building after this year. And yeah, you would have to
- 18:38Speaker 1: look at that as like a.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Three year free agency acquisition. That like that's your window,
- 18:44Speaker 2: that's your three year window, and you know you probably
- 18:46Speaker 2: have to try to extend him to really ensure you
- 18:49Speaker 2: get the most value.
- 18:51Speaker 1: But I don't I don't hate it. Was this guy's
- 18:56Speaker 1: a better player, yeah, just.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Yeah is oh yeah, and it was a game I
- 19:00Speaker 4: brought up in the off season on this show. Was
- 19:04Speaker 4: a guy that I wanted the Pirates to go after.
- 19:06Speaker 4: I still want the Pirates to go after him. So, uh,
- 19:09Speaker 4: it would be a big one. I think this would
- 19:11Speaker 4: be probably like the biggest level swing that the Pirates
- 19:13Speaker 4: could take on a player. I don't know, like like
- 19:17Speaker 4: I don't anticipate anything bigger.
- 19:19Speaker 1: The best catcher traded mid season since.
- 19:21Speaker 4: Like Mike I saw like JT Real Muto like in
- 19:24Speaker 4: twenty nineteen. Maybe it was like the last like big
- 19:27Speaker 4: catcher like that with team control left ye so yeah right, yeah,
- 19:36Speaker 4: so Miami, Miami doesn't happen often, but you know, hey,
- 19:39Speaker 4: if this was the year for the Pirates to do it,
- 19:42Speaker 4: I think it would be.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I also think Colorado wouldn't be wrong to just wait
- 19:47Speaker 2: for the off season.
- 19:48Speaker 4: Yeah, they've been hesitating to trade him because you know, yeah,
- 19:52Speaker 4: they have so much control left. But they do have
- 19:54Speaker 4: a new like front office. Uh yeah, maybe yes, maybe
- 19:59Speaker 4: they'll be a little a little bit more willing to
- 20:02Speaker 4: move on from like the past administrations players like that.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Who knows, but yeah, would definitely help.
- 20:08Speaker 2: So all right, we're gonna take another break when we
- 20:10Speaker 2: come back. Final trade target of today's show.

- 21:18Speaker 1: All right, final trade target of the show. You guys
- 21:21Speaker 1: know me. I love the sicko pools. All right.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Everyone can go hunting for a white whale, and that
- 21:28Speaker 2: is a fun of trade deadline season is dreaming up
- 21:32Speaker 2: that big team.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Or that big player for your team to acquire.
- 21:36Speaker 2: But I like finding the guys that a are probably
- 21:40Speaker 2: more realistic and B A lot of teams that win
- 21:45Speaker 2: the World Series are going a deep playoff run. They
- 21:48Speaker 2: don't always make a huge blockbruster trade, right. They bolster
- 21:52Speaker 2: what is already a solid lineup, but with guys who
- 21:55Speaker 2: can fill a specific role and make the team more
- 22:00Speaker 2: well rounded altogether. And that's how the bullpen should be addressed,
- 22:05Speaker 2: in my opinion. So when I saw the name Joendris
- 22:08Speaker 2: Gomez got a little excited because I do think there
- 22:11Speaker 2: is something that.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Could be added here. With this guy, I'll give you
- 22:17Speaker 1: the breakdown.
- 22:18Speaker 2: I mean, his his numbers above the hood are fine.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Well, I got Hunter Goodman pulled up and Garrett what
- 22:26Speaker 1: look uh?
- 22:28Speaker 2: I think he has like a like a three six
- 22:30Speaker 2: era or something like that. I'd leave you as nine saves.
- 22:33Speaker 2: He's twenty six years old, right hander, but under the
- 22:37Speaker 2: hood it's not as desirable. I mean his expected ERA
- 22:43Speaker 2: is five point twenty nine, which is a thirteenth percentile,
- 22:48Speaker 2: which just kind of tells me maybe he's getting a
- 22:50Speaker 2: little lucky at the beginning of the year. The main
- 22:54Speaker 2: thing that you know, I've mentioned on the show pirates
- 22:57Speaker 2: love guys who get that extension. He's in the eighty third, yeah,
- 23:02Speaker 2: percentile on extension. He doesn't really have a bad pitch.
- 23:05Speaker 2: He throws four of them. His sinker seems to be
- 23:09Speaker 2: probably his most productive pitch. I think he throws it
- 23:12Speaker 2: strictly against right handers, like twenty one percent of the time.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I believe it tunnels well with his four team, So
- 23:18Speaker 1: I like that. And then there's the two years of control.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Now, this guy isn't Garrett Whitlock like we talked about.
- 23:24Speaker 2: This guy isn't This guy isn't the dude from Colorado
- 23:28Speaker 2: we talked about in our last Yella, Like, this is
- 23:33Speaker 2: probably not an eighth inning or ninth inning guy. This
- 23:38Speaker 2: is this is a medium to maybe sometimes high leverage arm,
- 23:43Speaker 2: but they still need that. And that's like, I mean,
- 23:47Speaker 2: even with the two years of control, you're not giving
- 23:49Speaker 2: up anything crazy for this guy. You're just not You're
- 23:52Speaker 2: you're giving up you know, a double a prospect or
- 23:55Speaker 2: maybe an up down guy in the major leagues, right whoever,
- 23:59Speaker 2: you know Minnesota Twins want probably might make it easier
- 24:03Speaker 2: that the manager of that organization is very familiar with
- 24:07Speaker 2: your farm system.
- 24:08Speaker 1: So if there were guys that he noticed on a.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Backfield in Brandenton or maybe had some input in on
- 24:16Speaker 2: on you know, if they get added to the forty
- 24:17Speaker 2: man or not.
- 24:19Speaker 1: That could make this deal easier.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Yeah, So I don't know.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I look at it where it's not the sexiest of selections.
- 24:30Speaker 2: It's not somebody who is necessarily even that amazing, But
- 24:35Speaker 2: he's better than a lot of what you have, and
- 24:38Speaker 2: he could probably help you win games more than no
- 24:41Speaker 2: offense to these guys.
- 24:42Speaker 1: But like Brandon Bedoir can right now, So yeah, I
- 24:47Speaker 1: would kick the tires on him for sure.
- 24:49Speaker 4: What do you guys think, Yeah, he kind of reminds
- 24:52Speaker 4: me of like a Johann Ramirez with his career. He's
- 24:54Speaker 4: a reliever that's bounced around all over the place. He
- 24:58Speaker 4: was on three teams in twenty twenty five, he's on
- 25:01Speaker 4: two teams already this year. But he's one of those
- 25:05Speaker 4: relievers where if you catch him at the right moment
- 25:08Speaker 4: when they're dealing, like, he looks really really good. And
- 25:12Speaker 4: the Twins since they claimed him from the Rays, they've
- 25:16Speaker 4: done that. He has a one point six four ERA
- 25:19Speaker 4: this year with the Twins. Uh, he's pitching or twenty
- 25:23Speaker 4: five games for them compared to nine games with the Rays.
- 25:26Speaker 4: And yeah, they've Whatever the Twins have done with him
- 25:29Speaker 4: has been working. And so if you can bring that
- 25:32Speaker 4: with him to Pittsburgh maybe even continue to improve. You know,
- 25:36Speaker 4: maybe this is a guy that Bill Murphy could really,
- 25:39Speaker 4: you know, say hey, I did this, I helped fix
- 25:42Speaker 4: this guy. Look I'm actually doing something positive here. Maybe
- 25:46Speaker 4: that would be the case, but I think, you know,
- 25:49Speaker 4: this is like the level of reliever that we should
- 25:51Speaker 4: expect at the deadline. I don't know if.
- 25:55Speaker 1: You're capable of getting more.
- 25:57Speaker 2: But this is a minimum, like, this is the type
- 25:59Speaker 2: of player at min them they should add regardless of
- 26:01Speaker 2: where they are in the standings.
- 26:02Speaker 1: If you're not going to sell, this is the type
- 26:04Speaker 1: of player.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Yeah, if a guy like this comes across like the
- 26:06Speaker 4: waiver wire, like you gotta snag and give these guys
- 26:10Speaker 4: a shot and fly take a flyer on them and
- 26:12Speaker 4: see if they work out. So I don't think.
- 26:15Speaker 3: I mean, you mentioned he's been with a few teams
- 26:18Speaker 3: the past couple of years, So that right there is
- 26:21Speaker 3: showing you that one, pitching is something that all teams need,
- 26:25Speaker 3: but two, if teams are as you say, taking flyers
- 26:28Speaker 3: on them, teams have seen something, you know. But also
- 26:32Speaker 3: I've been in a situation where I played with guys
- 26:35Speaker 3: where you know, we've a guy has joined the team
- 26:37Speaker 3: for a week and then you know he's the odd
- 26:40Speaker 3: man out because somebody came back and not that he
- 26:42Speaker 3: didn't pitch well, you know, but I've seen guys that
- 26:46Speaker 3: have also done the same thing and come and pitch well,
- 26:48Speaker 3: and it's like, man, he's still the odd man out.
- 26:50Speaker 3: We don't really and you know a trade is made
- 26:52Speaker 3: for this guy or whatever. And especially when you mentioned
- 26:55Speaker 3: how he's pitched over his last you know, twenty five
- 26:58Speaker 3: albums with Minnesota since he's been there definitely is intriguing.
- 27:03Speaker 3: And as you said, it's nothing that you would consider
- 27:06Speaker 3: what they call sexy. But these are type of moves
- 27:10Speaker 3: that you would consider necessary if you're you know, whether
- 27:14Speaker 3: no matter what you said, no, whether you're can you know,
- 27:17Speaker 3: trying to make the playoffs, or if he's got two
- 27:19Speaker 3: years of control. He's a guy that is better than
- 27:22Speaker 3: a lot of options of what you said you've had
- 27:24Speaker 3: right now or that you could run out there. So
- 27:28Speaker 3: it's not a guy that you got to give up
- 27:29Speaker 3: much for and not to put more on a young man,
- 27:33Speaker 3: but he's already accustomed to moving around, you know, like
- 27:37Speaker 3: not trying to be funny, you know, So sometimes guys
- 27:41Speaker 3: like that has almost been like, you know what, this
- 27:44Speaker 3: dude's kind of been through the ringer enough. This is
- 27:46Speaker 3: a guy that might understand the moment of man. You
- 27:50Speaker 3: can put him in a lot of different roles because
- 27:51Speaker 3: he's been on different teams over the past two years
- 27:54Speaker 3: that have probably been just a bunch of a go
- 27:56Speaker 3: get some innings and it's like, hey, this dude is
- 28:00Speaker 3: probably got something that is like man, he can stick
- 28:02Speaker 3: around a little bit. So teams are taking flyers and
- 28:06Speaker 3: as you said, maybe maybe Shelton knows somebody's Hey, yes,
- 28:10Speaker 3: we can take a flyer on or saw this kid
- 28:11Speaker 3: on the backfield, or saw this kid pitch a couple wings,
- 28:14Speaker 3: or saw his pen. But bottom line, I think we
- 28:18Speaker 3: all agree that bullpen needs to be helped. And if
- 28:21Speaker 3: you're not going to get a gear Whitlock type, you
- 28:24Speaker 3: have to go and get you know, a go Maz
- 28:26Speaker 3: type somewhere in between. But you have to address this bullpen.
- 28:30Speaker 3: And while you can shoot for geartt Whitlock, it's not
- 28:32Speaker 3: bad to also acquire somebody with you know, Gomez's you know,
- 28:36Speaker 3: attributes to what he's had going on in the past.
- 28:39Speaker 4: I prefer a Gomez over and overpay for a whitlocker. Yeah.
- 28:46Speaker 3: I mean, you're not in a position to say an
- 28:48Speaker 3: overpay is worth the risk, honestly, let's be honest.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Yeah, we're back at another episode recording.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Yeah, you can get to Gomezes and.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Not really feel the loss as much as one wet locker. Yeah,
- 29:05Speaker 2: our two Gus is productive.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Up all right.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Uh, As we wrap up, want to remind everybody to
- 29:15Speaker 2: hit that subscribe button if they haven't already. We're on
- 29:18Speaker 2: a mission of three thousand subs, can't get there without

- 29:26Speaker 2: of your good merch and maybe one of these new
- 29:29Speaker 2: pirates can be rocking a Bucco Territory.
- 29:33Speaker 4: I love it story when they make that happen.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that would be great.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Guys, wrap up, go ahead, Josh, you have any final thoughts.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Man, good to be back, and uh yeah, you know,
- 29:47Speaker 3: it was going for a little week li family vacation,
- 29:49Speaker 3: but I got to see a little bit and I
- 29:52Speaker 3: will say it was just a little shout out. I
- 29:54Speaker 3: saw Connor made it back. It's pretty cool to see
- 29:58Speaker 3: him make it back. And obviously know they're still sorting
- 30:00Speaker 3: through some things, but filmily vacation, I was still able
- 30:03Speaker 3: to peek in and see some things happen. So that
- 30:06Speaker 3: was one of my observations with saying that Connor came back,
- 30:09Speaker 3: and unfortunately I think I saw a horror which go down.
- 30:11Speaker 3: But yep, you know, nonetheless, at five hundred, keep rocking
- 30:15Speaker 3: and put yourself in a position to you know, go
- 30:18Speaker 3: for acquisition that may help the team.
- 30:21Speaker 4: And my final thought, just leave a comment below of
- 30:24Speaker 4: these three guys, you know which one would you like
- 30:27Speaker 4: to see the Pirates go after the most and maybe
- 30:29Speaker 4: give us another name that we can discuss and break
- 30:32Speaker 4: down next Wednesday. So leave a comment below that helps
- 30:36Speaker 4: us as well. Hit that subscribe like buying all that

- 30:44Speaker 1: Absolutely, I'll echo of that.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah, just keep keep coming with different names. Obviously the
- 30:52Speaker 2: further we get into July it might be more difficult.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah, think of different names. Let's get creative.
- 30:57Speaker 2: I mean it's fun to kind of explore these ideas.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Is every Wednesday, which is what we're probably gonna do
- 31:03Speaker 2: for the rest of the month now because we're in
- 31:06Speaker 2: July August. All right on behalf of Platinum Key ak
- 31:13Speaker 2: Mark and Josh Harrison. I'm the Ohio, signing off saying
