- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Alright, guys, welcome back to another episode, another mini sode of the Live Well Podcast.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Today we're diving into sugar and cravings.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: I've done a couple episodes on this before, but they're longer form.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Today we are going to get to the bread and butter of sugar cravings.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: I'm going to give you, yeah, kind of why it happens, what you need to do, and all of that.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: So let's go ahead and dive in.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: If you're hangry and you know it, raise your hand.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: So sugar cravings, essentially all the way, and like we're gonna remove emotional stuff from this because I'm gonna do a separate mini-sit on that.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Or like I'll briefly touch on it, but like let's touch on the physical level first.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Sugar cravings come from blood sugar issues.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: And blood sugar issues are surprisingly easy to reverse, prevent, and manage.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Whether they are mild, whether they're severe, I mean, every bit you eat either fuels health or feeds disease, right?
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: So it's up to you to kind of choose which one you would like to do or which one kind of feels good to you.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: And so if you haven't taken my cravings quiz, I definitely recommend going to my website because it tells you what kind of craver you are and kind of the most likely culprit behind it.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: We're gonna be diving in here, but that one is like a fully personalized quiz for you.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Um, also, we'll link it down below as well.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: So we'll link it down below and on my website, but definitely check out the craving quiz because we've all heard that you know sugar is more addicting than cocaine, blah blah blah.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: 100% true, yes.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Also, what I want to add in is artificial sweeteners are even worse.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: So when I see the sugar-free vanilla, the splenda, the the fake stuff, that is actually even worse than sugar.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Not that I want you eating sugar, like white sugar, table sugar, but just know that that is all of us like going to be just as bad as the other one, right?
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: So kind of like some signs that you're addicted to sugar, you have cravings, obviously cravings for sugar, um, low self-esteem, edgy or irritable, night owl, tear-up easily, um, shaky in between meals, headache.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: You crave something sweet after dinner, like you're that someone who like I always need like a little something after dinner.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Whenever someone says, like, I just sorry, I have a client that's British and um I'm I'm gonna butcher this person.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: I always need a square of chocolate after my meals.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I can't do it, guys.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: But like I just remember that stuck in my head, I'm like, yeah, we're bound on your blood sugar because that's the one that stick with me.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: But it's something that so many people have come to me too, like, I always need a little something sweet, then honey, we you're addicted to sugar and your blood sugar's not balanced.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Um also like stiff muscles, lack of energy, feeling very bored or flat without sugar is another kind of common sign.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: So A, you need to make sure that you're eating enough fats, protein, and low fructose fruits.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: So the problem with high fructose fruits is that fructose is something that's only digestible by the liver.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: And so when your fructose is really high, all that does is drive up your sugar cravings.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: So if you're eating like a half a cantaloupe, I think it's like really trendy for I think like Bali girls or whatever, they take half a cantaloupe and they scoop out the seeds and they put some more like fruit or something in the center and they eat like half a cantaloupe, that is going to send your body on a blood sugar roller coaster, not to mention the a lot of fructose at once for your liver, right?
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: So just know that that just that sends, yeah, that's very hard in your liver, and I think that's something I would recommend doing.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Um, but sticking to like low fructose fruits instead is gonna just be a lot more blood sugar stable.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: And this is definitely um, if you need help with this, go into um healthier you because we I take you all about how to quit sugar.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: So the problem with the cravings is that dopamine response in the brain then leads to an insulin spike.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: And if you haven't listened to the little mini soda on metabolism, go back and listen to that and then re-listen to this.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: But that dopamine response in the brain and that insulin spike throughout the body elicits those strong cravings.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: So going off of sugar basically awakens this hangry monster like nothing else does, and there's no such thing as willpower, right?
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Willpower is not gonna, you're not gonna be able to overpower your hormones basically.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: So, hello everyone.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to quickly hop on here and let you guys know that if you have not heard of healthier you yet, it is now open and I have added a new masterclass to it, which is the Break the Cycle Emotional Eating Masterclass.

- 5:32SPEAKER_00: This includes how to cut sugar, the formula when I'm like eating makes it super simple.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Tells you how to go out and eat truffle fries and still feel amazing in your body, still heal your hormones and still feel great.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: So if you have not checked that out, I'm gonna leave the link for that down below because this foundation is honestly so easy.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: It's for those of you who might scroll through, you know, all of the vibey health and wellness content on Instagram and TikTok wondering how to be, you know, quote unquote fat girl.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: This is like saving you the tidbits of advice, trying to figure it out how to piece it all together and just puts it all together for you in a really easy, digestible way.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Plus, I do have something special coming next month for you guys who are gonna be in it, which is going to be completely free.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, so if you're in it, you're gonna get access to that.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: So if you feel like it is a full body guest to understand how you can really take care of yourself, make healthy eating a lifestyle, and balance all your hormones in a way that is like cookies and delicious and nourishing and satisfying, we break it down inside.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Um, and I will leave the link for that down below.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: And with that, let's get back into the episode.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: You need again like healthy fats and protein.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: I cannot like drive this home enough.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's also talk digestive issues.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: If you have digestive issues, you are going to have problems with sugar, and digestive issues look like bloating, constipation, diarrhea, leaky gut, um anything where like your gut also also honestly, gut health issues can show up in mental health, so anxiety, depression, any kind of joint pain, brain fog, um, skin issues, so eczema, psoriasis, acne, those are all digestive issues, those all digestive roots, right?
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: So you need to heal your gut.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: So if you're still eating not only tons of sugar, because sugar feeds bad gut bacteria.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: When bad gut bacteria thrive, they're like, whoo, yay, let's give me lots of sugar, lots of food.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Let's ask for more food because they want more food and then your sugar cravings go up, right?
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: If you're still eating gluten, that's gonna make sugar hard to quake.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: That's gonna contribute to your gut health issues, right?
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: So you want to be looking at healing your gut and making sure that that there's no way that the sugar cravings can be coming from that.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: You also want to look at, well, the problem is also fatigue, right?
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Because so many individuals are fueling their energy with abundant amounts of sugar, right?
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: They have their blah blah blah frappuccino or whatever.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: I don't even, is it caramel frappuccino, something like that?
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: There's frappuccinos, right?
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: But they all have lots of sugar.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Um, and then when you know you ditch the sugar, well, then you feel fatigued.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: But the fatigue is only because of the crash, because your body was relying on sugar when in reality you shouldn't A need sugar, but B, you should be able to go like a solid five, six hours without food, without getting hangry, without getting shaky, without getting any of that, right?
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: So if you're not, that's a sign that your blood sugar is not balanced.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: And also know that like when you quit sugar, there might be like flu-like symptoms.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Um, and there's things that you can do to kind of mitigate that for sure.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Um just know that if you come off cold turkey, it's not a sign that your body like needs the sugar, it's like a drug that it's coming off of, right?
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Which also leads me to like headaches because in some individuals, all that like dopamine and microbiome or like gut fluctuations that happen when detoxing from sugar can trigger those headaches, and that's where the headaches are coming from, right?
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: So just know that like the headache is not a sign that you need sugar, it's a sign that hey, we are addicted to sugar, or if you get headaches and then you have some sugar and it's fine, that's also a sign that your body is addicted to sugar, and also just think of the mood, right?
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: When sugar that was included with like every meal kind of stops, your brain that was addicted to that, and like maybe you've been having it for a long time, that triggers the like anxiety, moodiness, it's like all of that kind of stuff that you want to kind of mitigate and you want to make sure that you're supporting your body in a great way that's going to allow you to come off of the sugar in a way that's easy.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Now, if you're susceptible to low blood sugar, like shakiness, blood sugar balance, you need like honestly 20, but honestly closer to 30 grams of protein minimum per meal, let alone snaps as well, right?
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Essentially, the sugar cravings are coming from undereating, having too much sugars in your diet that you need to cut out, uh maybe you're in yogurt and salads and sauces and all that, your microbiome being off or your gut being off.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: And then the last one I'm going to to add in is that you are lacking the sweetness of your life.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: So it's coming from an emotional route.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna do a little mini set on this, but if you are eating from emotion, that's going to, and that's the only thing that gives you pleasure, and that's the only thing that gives you happiness is the sugar.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Um then they are you're gonna come become dependent on that as your kind of like only way to satisfy that need or satisfy that emotion.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: But I'm gonna do a little mini set on that because I want to keep these like 10-15 minutes.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: So hopefully you understand all of that when it comes to sugar and cravings.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: It's fairly easy once you decide to quit sugar and to like not crave it anymore, and then you'll find like having like a raspberry is like the sweetest thing in the world, like or like you can't have more than like half a cup of blueberries because you're like, oh my god, that's so sweet, right?
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: So just know that your taste buds do change, but you do have to give your taste buds time and chance to change.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'll I'll add in one more like little thing.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Bitter foods are really good for quitting sugar, right?
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: So um, if you can add in some more bitter foods, that's going to help.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: But like I said, definitely jump into healthier you if you need help with sugar cravings or emotional eating, because we kind of go over all of that.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Um, and it helps you rewire your brain chemistry so that you aren't relying on sugar for that effect.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: And there's also stuff to help your gut and all of that in there as well.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: Um, we'll leave the craving quiz down below, um, healthier you down below, and yeah, I will see you guys in the next mini zone.
