- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Kate Dreston and welcome to Kate's Devotional Podcast.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: I drop my podcast every Wednesday.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: It's always a five minute or less devotional to bring you encouragement as we try to live our lives according to the Bible.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: So glad you're here.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Today we're going to talk about what it takes to keep ourselves in tune with the Savior.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: When we talk about being in tune with someone, I always think of music.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Two musicians can make beautiful music if they're both in the same key.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: So you know what happens if they're trying to do a duet in different keys?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're only making noise and no one wants to listen to that.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Now in terms of being in tune with someone when you're in a relationship, it means there's no friction between you.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: You're on good terms and the lines of communication are open.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Well the most important relationship we have is with our Savior.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: We need to be committed to nurturing it and taking care of it and growing it.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Here are three ways to stay in tune with God.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Examine Your Heart.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: We must make sure that nothing will keep us from the sweet fellowship with Jesus.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: When we have unconfessed sin, it's going to negatively affect our relationship with God.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we can have unforgiveness or bitterness or anger or anything that might be hiding down deep.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we have feelings down in our heart that aren't obvious to us.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: That's why it's important to make a conscious effort to examine our hearts.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Ask God to reveal anything that's not right.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Then we can ask for forgiveness and help.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And the Bible promises us in 1 John 1-9, I'm going to read out of the New King James Version, Okay, number two.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Make God a Priority We need to spend quality time with God when we can focus and we aren't rushed.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Matthew 6.33 says, But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: We need to seek Him first.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: When we're doing our devotions, we need to minimize the distractions as much as possible.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: I try to remember to turn off my phone so I don't hear all the notifications.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Our world is just filled with technology and instant communication.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: This can be a real challenge when it comes to our quiet time.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: But we make time for what's important to us, don't we?
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: So again, we need to make the conscious decision to make time with God a priority.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Number 3.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Study the Bible I am a fan of devotionals and podcasts and I believe they can be helpful, but nothing replaces the inspired and perfect Word of God.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Joshua 1.8 says, This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: So Joshua was telling the people they need to be meditating on it day and night.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: It was that important and it still is.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Reading the Bible is an essential part of the Christian life.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: And I know a lot of people say the Bible is too hard to understand and they can't figure it out.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: But God promises us that the Holy Spirit will help us understand it.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: He tells us that in 1 Corinthians 2 verses 14 through 16.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: So the next time we read our Bibles,
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: our prayer should be the same as what a psalmist wrote in Psalms 119 verse 18 they said open my eyes that I may see wondrous things in your law and believe me if we ask God to help us understand he will because he wants us to be able to understand and apply it so the three things were number one examine your heart number two make God a priority and number three study the Bible
