- 1:23Speaker 4: I don't quite have the j l H. When I
- 1:25Speaker 4: got the girls, does candle or whatever?
- 1:27Speaker 3: Yeah, that that'd be a wicked burn to like a
- 1:30Speaker 3: Star Trek fan be like, oh, yeah, well you get
- 1:32Speaker 3: your dates through a candle?
- 1:34Speaker 4: Yeah? O explain that you see in this one episode
- 1:41Speaker 4: to start.
- 1:43Speaker 2: One of the greatest episodes of t G.
- 1:45Speaker 4: That's right, that's right. Oh man.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah, if you were a Star Trek fan, man, that
- 1:50Speaker 2: you'd be really befurned right now.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, God, you should be devastated now right. Yeah?
- 1:59Speaker 2: Man, that was your week?
- 2:02Speaker 4: All right? That was yours.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Great. Just came back from the Grand Rapids Comic Con yesterday.
- 2:09Speaker 4: How'd that go?
- 2:10Speaker 2: It was? It was, It was a lot of fun.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Uh, every just about every Star Trek guests canceled, so
- 2:16Speaker 3: really yeah, Alice Green canceled, Malcom McDonald canceled.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Uh. They did have the guy that was in the
- 2:22Speaker 2: Gorn suit from the original series everywhere. Yep.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I did not meet him. I was like, I looked
- 2:30Speaker 3: over his booths. I'm like, yeah, no, I no desire.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Uh. And then I did go to Peter Weller's panel.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Okay, okay, So yeah, he he.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Was Paxton in the season four story arc of Enterprise.
- 2:45Speaker 4: And in the movie he was Yeah, he was.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Also Admiral marcus In in Star Trek in the Darkness.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Yeah, but it was a it was a it was
- 2:55Speaker 3: a robocot panel. It was called Coming with Me with
- 2:59Speaker 3: Peter Weller. Yeah, and uh, Peter Weller has a PhD
- 3:05Speaker 3: in like art.
- 3:07Speaker 4: History, Okay, yeah, something like that.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and so you know the panel started off, he
- 3:14Speaker 3: just took the mic, stood up and never sat down
- 3:17Speaker 3: and never stopped talking. Yeah, you just and and I
- 3:20Speaker 3: think RoboCop was mentioned twice. Okay, that's like he wanted
- 3:25Speaker 3: everything to be related to He started talking about Detroit
- 3:27Speaker 3: and he's like, yeah, let's talk about Detroit as it
- 3:29Speaker 3: relates to RoboCop. And then he's like, you know what else?
- 3:32Speaker 3: You know, Detroit used to be bad and now it's good,
- 3:34Speaker 3: and you know what else was kind of like that,
- 3:35Speaker 3: and he started going over. He started talking about like
- 3:38Speaker 3: the Roman Empire and Alexander the Great started talking about
- 3:44Speaker 3: doctor and stuff right right, And that's all he talked about.
- 3:46Speaker 2: For the entire thing. And I leaned over to Desiree
- 3:49Speaker 2: and I'm.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Like, this guy has ADHD and he's a little crazy. Yeah,
- 3:56Speaker 3: so he just went off on a tangent. Uh, just
- 4:00Speaker 3: back and forth. He talked about a few movies, not RoboCop. Yeah,
- 4:05Speaker 3: Star Trek wasn't mentioned once.
- 4:06Speaker 2: At one point, Like they have the mic where you.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Go up and you take questions and usually the moderator says, okay,
- 4:12Speaker 3: it's time for questions.
- 4:13Speaker 2: You know, let's let's do the mic thing. The moderator
- 4:17Speaker 2: couldn't get two words in edgewise.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Peter Weller was like, all right, let's take some questions
- 4:21Speaker 3: you over there, blah blah blah blah.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And at one point I was I kind of raised
- 4:25Speaker 2: my hand. I was gonna ask him.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I was going to ask him, you know, you
- 4:29Speaker 3: were in Star Trek Enterprise, were you surprised that they
- 4:33Speaker 3: called you for Star Trek again twelve years later? And
- 4:36Speaker 3: he was going off. Finally I just put my hand down.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I'm like, no, I don't I don't want to engage, man.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I mean, it was it was an interesting panel. Everybody
- 4:44Speaker 3: walked out going wow, that was interesting.
- 4:50Speaker 4: You know, I think if I was there, I know
- 4:53Speaker 4: that he's obsessed with coffee. Oh just I posted that
- 4:57Speaker 4: video in our group that he's got to do on
- 4:59Speaker 4: YouTube and he's like, we'll not shut up about coffee.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Wow.
- 5:03Speaker 4: I would ask him something about that, just to get him.
- 5:06Speaker 2: What kind of coffee do you like?
- 5:07Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, when you go to Starbucks, what do you order? Sir?
- 5:11Speaker 3: Just The panel went over fifteen minutes and the moderator
- 5:14Speaker 3: was just standing there going.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, so you got to hit my Hurricane Weller
- 5:22Speaker 4: is what it sounds like.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Yes, I got some board to talk about, but we'll
- 5:25Speaker 2: get into that later. Nice.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Nice, Okay, Well, yeah, I did not have an incident
- 5:32Speaker 4: with a Hurricane Weller or any other any other celebrities,
- 5:35Speaker 4: but you know I do got the news. So let's
- 5:40Speaker 4: let's get started with Let's.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Dive right in Star Tuck news.
- 5:47Speaker 4: All right, so our first news story comes to us
- 5:49Speaker 4: today from Variety, and this is the big thing making
- 5:53Speaker 4: the round, so let's talk about it. We have a
- 5:56Speaker 4: new Star Trek movie in the works. Officially, this is
- 6:00Speaker 4: going to be done by the duo behind the Dungeons
- 6:04Speaker 4: and Dragons film, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daily. You
- 6:10Speaker 4: may also know them as the screenwriters for Spider Man Homecoming. Okay,
- 6:16Speaker 4: so they've done some pretty notable things, right, They will
- 6:20Speaker 4: be doing the next Star Trek movie. We know nothing
- 6:23Speaker 4: about this. We don't know when it's set in the timeline.
- 6:27Speaker 4: We do know that it will be completely unattached from
- 6:32Speaker 4: anything before, so no movie. Yeah, yeah, completely starting over.
- 6:39Speaker 4: But you know, there are rumors that this will be
- 6:43Speaker 4: telling the set the beginning of Starfleet, how it got started.
- 6:49Speaker 4: I don't know if that's true. We we don't know.
- 6:52Speaker 4: We don't know anything about this thing officially, so but
- 6:59Speaker 4: you know, I think they're a good team to get started,
- 7:02Speaker 4: that they've done good stuff.
- 7:05Speaker 3: So what that's telling me when they say it's going
- 7:07Speaker 3: to be completely rebranded or redifferent or whatever it's gonna be,
- 7:11Speaker 3: what that tells me is they have not just unshackled
- 7:14Speaker 3: themselves from Cannon, they have taken Cannon and blown it up.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Yes, I know there are a lot of podcasts and
- 7:25Speaker 4: and meme groups and all this stuff right now, kind
- 7:29Speaker 4: of reading too much into this. I know there's a
- 7:31Speaker 4: lot of like celebrating the end of Kurtzman because if
- 7:36Speaker 4: they don't want to attach to him, then then that's
- 7:40Speaker 4: a sign that he's done for that's good. I can
- 7:44Speaker 4: I can see that argument. But you know, when you're
- 7:50Speaker 4: when you're trying to relaunch a franchise into films, your
- 7:54Speaker 4: best bet is to wipe it clean to allow new
- 7:57Speaker 4: audiences to come in. Right, you don't have to tell them, hey,
- 8:02Speaker 4: you need to watch all these things to understand what
- 8:05Speaker 4: the hell is going on. So whether or not they're
- 8:09Speaker 4: getting rid of Kurtzman. I would if I had to
- 8:12Speaker 4: put money on it, I'm gonna guess that they're gonna
- 8:14Speaker 4: get rid of them. But but as it sits right now,
- 8:19Speaker 4: it's probably just that they want to build a film
- 8:21Speaker 4: franchise and so they want to start fresh, and that's
- 8:24Speaker 4: all that we know.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Yeah, getting rid of Kurtzman. I sort of took the
- 8:28Speaker 3: pulse about Kurtzman.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, start trek inter national panel and uh,
- 8:35Speaker 2: based on the cheers that I got when I said
- 8:39Speaker 2: basically said the comment they need to get rid of
- 8:41Speaker 2: Kurtzman and they need to let Terry Metallis and Jonathan
- 8:43Speaker 2: Frakes take over the franchise.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Everybody agrees that Kurtzman needs to go. And yeah, I
- 8:50Speaker 3: don't know.
- 8:50Speaker 2: If it's these two guys that.
- 8:53Speaker 4: I mean when we would to trek Long Island or
- 8:56Speaker 4: Long Island, I don't know how you're supposed to say
- 8:58Speaker 4: that or whatever. But when Dan and I went, you know,
- 9:01Speaker 4: we went to a panel where you know, because that
- 9:03Speaker 4: night it was the end of Discovery, it was the
- 9:04Speaker 4: last episode and then they were going to have like
- 9:07Speaker 4: a reaction and they had like a if you were
- 9:09Speaker 4: a part of a podcast you could send a member
- 9:11Speaker 4: up there and go talk about it. So I went
- 9:14Speaker 4: up and I was amazed how many of these podcasts
- 9:18Speaker 4: were also like, yeah, it's not that great, or or
- 9:22Speaker 4: they found one or two things to like about it,
- 9:24Speaker 4: maybe a character, but that's all they really liked about it,
- 9:27Speaker 4: you know.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Sure, yeah, yeah, there were some great characters in industry.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I would like to have seen more of, right,
- 9:34Speaker 2: for sure, there was.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Some there were some great storylines that they hinted at
- 9:39Speaker 3: that I would have liked to have seen more of.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, but.
- 9:43Speaker 3: You know it's sort of like, you know, we say
- 9:47Speaker 3: in Strange New Worlds, we want them to go see
- 9:49Speaker 3: strange New worlds and discovery. They didn't discover anything.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Right, right, So yeah, yeah, yeah, So that's that's the
- 9:58Speaker 4: thing about it. Like that's why I think he's probably
- 10:02Speaker 4: not long for Star Trek. I know, his contract is
- 10:04Speaker 4: supposed to be up next year, so and we haven't
- 10:09Speaker 4: heard of any renewals. So I'll see.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Whatever I'm you know, don't let the door hit you
- 10:18Speaker 2: on the way out.
- 10:19Speaker 4: So wild Bill says, but isn't connecting episodes and movies
- 10:23Speaker 4: a big part of our fandom? So it is I
- 10:28Speaker 4: don't deny that, but you know, the show's been going on,
- 10:32Speaker 4: what sixty years, seventy years something like that. Yeah, yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 4: that's a lot of history. If you're just getting into it, right,
- 10:39Speaker 4: it's overwhelming, So you kind of need to refresh for
- 10:43Speaker 4: people at some point, you know.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Yeah, But you know, I've had I've had non Star
- 10:48Speaker 3: Trek friends, watch Star Trek, First Contact, watch Star Trek,
- 10:55Speaker 3: The Undiscovered Country. Yea, watch with the Whales Without Everything,
- 10:59Speaker 3: seen an episode of Star Trek, and they enjoyed those movies.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Yeah, so well, I guess maybe we should ask.
- 11:06Speaker 2: The I agree with wild Bill.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Yeah, do you do you want a complete reboot? Or
- 11:11Speaker 4: do you want them to try to cobble something together
- 11:14Speaker 4: and and continue on in the prime timeline?
- 11:19Speaker 3: Let us know, I mean, everybody knows what everybody's been
- 11:23Speaker 3: asking for. There's no reason why they can't bring on
- 11:26Speaker 3: some and I hate to use this word, but I'm
- 11:28Speaker 3: going to use it legacy characters, right, you know, something
- 11:35Speaker 3: that mentions the past. Look at Star Wars. Yeah, that's
- 11:39Speaker 3: that's the other franchise we always compare it to.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I'm actually okay with a complete reboot.
- 11:46Speaker 4: I really am so Yeah.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Now when you say reboot, what what what's your definition
- 11:52Speaker 3: of reboot? I mean, do you do you want to
- 11:54Speaker 3: see something that is that Let's.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Just go a completely fresh, whole new timeline. Let's do that.
- 12:02Speaker 4: The The other thing, too, is, you know, Star Trek
- 12:05Speaker 4: has a long and proud tradition of using the same
- 12:08Speaker 4: actor in completely different roles. So that's not to say
- 12:12Speaker 4: you couldn't get you know, a Chris Pine to return
- 12:15Speaker 4: or a Nanson mount to return or a Zolais Sealbana
- 12:18Speaker 4: or you know, somebody to play a different role.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Okay, Right, so you'd be okay, completely okay with like
- 12:26Speaker 3: the adventures of the USS Endeavor and you know, outer
- 12:31Speaker 3: Space the probably the last frontier. These are the cruises
- 12:36Speaker 3: of the spaceship Endeavor.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Oh, I promise you whatever we're getting, it's going to
- 12:41Speaker 4: be the Enterprise, and it'll be a whole new crew
- 12:43Speaker 4: in the Enterprise.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:45Speaker 4: I don't know if it'll be a new Spot and
- 12:47Speaker 4: a new Kirk and all that, but it might be
- 12:50Speaker 4: you know, the Enterprise B.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Or something that I know JJ did that and it
- 12:58Speaker 2: was successful and then fizzled out.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Right, So right, what would be the what would be the.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Biggest Okay, let's stop thinking like Star Trek fans. Yeah,
- 13:09Speaker 3: and let's start thinking like executives just for a moment.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Oh, then I'll tell you what it is.
- 13:14Speaker 2: What would be the biggest commercial success.
- 13:18Speaker 4: If you're okay, If I'm thinking like an executive, and
- 13:20Speaker 4: I'm going to completely restart this franchise, I'm gonna do
- 13:25Speaker 4: the beginning to star Fleet for the first movie, how
- 13:28Speaker 4: it got started, right. Then I would do for the
- 13:33Speaker 4: second film, I would do like the first, like the Federation,
- 13:40Speaker 4: the first five years in like one movie. And how
- 13:44Speaker 4: how do you cobble together this alliance? How do you
- 13:47Speaker 4: keep people happy? How do you make that going right?
- 13:51Speaker 4: And then your third film would be The Klingon War,
- 13:54Speaker 4: And I would bring on the Klingons like I would
- 13:56Speaker 4: tease them in the second film, and then bring them
- 13:58Speaker 4: for the third film. And that's the end of your movie.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, yeah, I I think wild Bill has another
- 14:10Speaker 3: good idea. Yeah, yeah, sure, with an occasional visit from
- 14:13Speaker 3: legacy characters. So he doesn't want a complete revamp. I
- 14:16Speaker 3: don't want to compmplete revamp, you know. If they want
- 14:20Speaker 3: to do the USS, I don't care what I already
- 14:24Speaker 3: set the universe that I already know and love, and
- 14:29Speaker 3: then you know.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Go back. They can go back to the same formula. Yeah,
- 14:35Speaker 2: you know, or or they can I don't know.
- 14:38Speaker 3: I I my my gut is telling me I don't
- 14:41Speaker 3: want to see a complete revamp. Yeah, my gut is
- 14:45Speaker 3: telling me I want I don't necessarily need legacy characters,
- 14:49Speaker 3: but you know, set it in the universe we all
- 14:52Speaker 3: know and love and and continue on the story from there.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Don't jump around.
- 14:58Speaker 4: It's not that I want to see a complete reboot.
- 15:01Speaker 4: I just I'm okay with it. And it sounds like
- 15:04Speaker 4: you're more hesitant about.
- 15:06Speaker 2: It, right right, Yeah, I am very hesitant about it. Yeah,
- 15:09Speaker 2: because I think if you do a complete reboot.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Number one, you might alienate non Star Trek fans because
- 15:14Speaker 3: they're like, this is Star Trek.
- 15:15Speaker 2: I haven't known Star Trek.
- 15:16Speaker 3: I'm not going to jump into it, And you might
- 15:19Speaker 3: alienate current fans because they're like, well, this is Star Trek,
- 15:22Speaker 3: but they're not. It's it's a complete redo. They've already
- 15:24Speaker 3: done that, it's done. It's not going to have any
- 15:28Speaker 3: of the characters that I like. Okay, I'm out to.
- 15:32Speaker 2: A success would be a legacy movie.
- 15:37Speaker 4: Yeah, that I see. I think you're thinking more as
- 15:40Speaker 4: a fan and not for general audiences. You know.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Yeah, but when they make you know, let's use Star
- 15:50Speaker 3: Wars as another example again. You know, they they bring
- 15:54Speaker 3: back these fan favorite characters. They bring back Bubble Fat,
- 15:59Speaker 3: they bring back you know, when when the Mandalorian first
- 16:01Speaker 3: came out, you know, people looked at what the Mandalorian
- 16:05Speaker 3: was like, and they non Star Wars fans looked at
- 16:08Speaker 3: the Mandalorian thought, oh, the bounty hunter, and then they
- 16:11Speaker 3: saw the pictures of Grogu and they're like, oh, baby Yoda.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Even non Star Wars fans saw that, and that's what
- 16:17Speaker 3: brought him in.
- 16:18Speaker 2: You know. Even the commercial success of the Rogue One
- 16:23Speaker 2: spin off.
- 16:23Speaker 3: You know, it was based off of one of the
- 16:25Speaker 3: most successful movies, which was Rogue One, you know, right,
- 16:30Speaker 3: and or you know, it's all based on things that
- 16:34Speaker 3: we knew and loved and and sort of you know,
- 16:38Speaker 3: playing fan service to that, right. You know what if
- 16:42Speaker 3: Star Wars came out with something completely different that had
- 16:45Speaker 3: nothing to do with established cannon, yeah, it'd be a disaster.
- 16:53Speaker 4: But okay, I so, I think part of the problem
- 16:58Speaker 4: is executives have longed for a long time now seen
- 17:03Speaker 4: Star Trek as this potentially multi billion dollar franchise, and
- 17:08Speaker 4: it's just not That's not what it was set to be, right.
- 17:14Speaker 4: They want it to be laser guns and in space, right,
- 17:19Speaker 4: like a.
- 17:19Speaker 2: One hundred million dollar franchise.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Right, right, that's what it is, right, Yeah. But really,
- 17:25Speaker 4: Star Trek at its heart is drama, is ethical dilemmas.
- 17:30Speaker 4: It's things like that, right, which is not your big
- 17:33Speaker 4: budget space space opera. So they're trying to you know,
- 17:39Speaker 4: they're trying to make Fetch happen, and Fetch is not
- 17:41Speaker 4: happening those abusing mean girls.
- 17:44Speaker 3: So yeah, and I get that, and you know, and
- 17:47Speaker 3: I understand that I'm coming to it from sort of
- 17:49Speaker 3: a layman, you know, you sort of have a background
- 17:52Speaker 3: in writing, and yeah, and I'm more of a you know,
- 17:58Speaker 3: a baby looking at shiny car keys, you know.
- 18:01Speaker 2: So I I know I'm coming from it coming no, no, no,
- 18:05Speaker 2: you know again, that's what it is, right right.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:09Speaker 2: So, and I don't know which one of us is
- 18:11Speaker 2: is speaking for.
- 18:15Speaker 4: I don't know which is for speaking for ourselves here,
- 18:22Speaker 4: but you know what, this is a great transition to
- 18:24Speaker 4: the next story, because uh, there was an article in Yahoo.
- 18:29Speaker 4: So let me pull this up. And the writer of
- 18:33Speaker 4: this article has made a suggestion of who should take
- 18:38Speaker 4: over Star Trek. And honestly, this guy was not on
- 18:42Speaker 4: my radar, but when I read this article, I can
- 18:45Speaker 4: kind of see it, so I wanted to bring it
- 18:47Speaker 4: on the show. Let's talk about it. So, according to
- 18:50Speaker 4: this article, only one man can can hire, can be
- 18:53Speaker 4: hired to save Star Trek already, and he's already been
- 18:56Speaker 4: hired by paramounts. And this article goes on to say,
- 19:00Speaker 4: Edgar Wright. Do you know who Edgar Wright is? Scott Okay.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Edgar Wright is the director behind Scott Pilgrim Versus the World.
- 19:11Speaker 4: He did Hot Fuzz, Sean of the Dead, Baby Driver.
- 19:18Speaker 4: He recently did the new Running Man remake that's out
- 19:21Speaker 4: in theaters right now, Okay, with Glenn Powell. Edgar Wright
- 19:26Speaker 4: is known for his big, bold visuals, his quirky sense
- 19:30Speaker 4: of humor, his heart in a movie. I don't know
- 19:34Speaker 4: if you saw Hot Fuzz, but there's a lot of
- 19:35Speaker 4: heart in that film. Sean of the Dead, there's a
- 19:39Speaker 4: lot of heart in it. So he's got a lot
- 19:42Speaker 4: of the ingredients you would want in good classic Trek right.
- 19:47Speaker 4: A lot of his movies deal with an ensemble cast.
- 19:50Speaker 4: They all get their moments to shine. They all are
- 19:53Speaker 4: distinctly different. They all you know, they work together to
- 19:57Speaker 4: get an accomplished goal.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:59Speaker 4: So, so he's got a lot of the basic things
- 20:02Speaker 4: you need. But would he do it? Would Paramount give
- 20:07Speaker 4: him the keys to the kingdom? I don't know, but
- 20:11Speaker 4: I kind of like this idea.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't hate it.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Yeah, have you seen any of those movies I've seen
- 20:19Speaker 3: Scott Pilgrim? Okay, so I haven't seen any of the
- 20:25Speaker 3: like the Simon Peg like Shawn of the Dead or
- 20:27Speaker 3: Hot Fuzz or anything like that. They're on my radar,
- 20:30Speaker 3: They're on my they're they're in my.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Cue, but I haven't seen him yet.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Knowing you, I think you would like Hot Fuzz more
- 20:35Speaker 4: than you like Shanna the Dead, Okay because Hot Fuzz
- 20:40Speaker 4: deals with like people who grew up with like nineties
- 20:42Speaker 4: action films. Oh okay, yeah, so I think you would
- 20:46Speaker 4: dig it and it's pretty funny. Yeah, but but yeah,
- 20:53Speaker 4: I don't know if the if the Chat wants to
- 20:55Speaker 4: chime in here on this, But what do you guys
- 20:57Speaker 4: think of Edgar Wright potentially taking over Star Trek. This
- 21:01Speaker 4: isn't like a rumor or anything like that. It's just
- 21:04Speaker 4: an idea somebody was putting out there on Yahoo, and
- 21:08Speaker 4: I thought it was kind of an interesting idea, and
- 21:09Speaker 4: I just wanted to bring it out for people to
- 21:11Speaker 4: talk about. Okay, well, then our last news story comes
- 21:17Speaker 4: to us from what is this? Oh also Yahoo Finance
- 21:21Speaker 4: as well, And this story is there was recently a
- 21:26Speaker 4: classic TV auction and it pulled in more than three
- 21:31Speaker 4: million dollars. They sold all sorts of things, all sorts
- 21:34Speaker 4: of like wardrobe like let's see Caesar Romero's Joker costumes
- 21:41Speaker 4: sold for two hundred and twelve thousand dollars. Yeah, Julie
- 21:46Speaker 4: Newmar's cat suit back or catwoman suit sold for sixty
- 21:51Speaker 4: eight thousand dollars. So big, big, big, big money for
- 21:56Speaker 4: some of these things. A batter rang from the nineteen
- 21:59Speaker 4: sixty six Pack and Show sold for fifty thousand dollars.
- 22:04Speaker 4: But but some other items too were Captain Kirk's Starfleet
- 22:10Speaker 4: uniform as worn by William Shatner in the episode Mirror Mirror,
- 22:15Speaker 4: that sold for sixty two five dollars. Oh wow, okay,
- 22:19Speaker 4: yeah yeah, and then oh another outfit that he wore
- 22:23Speaker 4: in mirror mirror as well, also sold for fifty two thousand,
- 22:28Speaker 4: five hundred dollars, so just ten grand less, so a
- 22:31Speaker 4: bunch of different things. If I remember this is the
- 22:33Speaker 4: auction that it was a dentist who owned a lot
- 22:38Speaker 4: of these things, really, yeah, and he just collected them
- 22:42Speaker 4: throughout the years. And there you go, oh jazz business
- 22:46Speaker 4: chiming in. I guess he's referring to Edgar Wright. He's
- 22:49Speaker 4: good while both is those movies. Yeah, he would do well. Yeah,
- 22:54Speaker 4: so I don't think it's a bad call with the Edgar, right,
- 22:57Speaker 4: And you know, whether or not it happens, who knows,
- 23:00Speaker 4: But there you go. But yeah, they just want more trek,
- 23:04Speaker 4: yeah for sure.
- 23:05Speaker 3: For sure that's something you and I and and Dan
- 23:08Speaker 3: could all agree on. Oh yeah, everybody listening to this show,
- 23:12Speaker 3: we just want more track.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Hey, we're gonna be getting it soon. We're gonna be
- 23:15Speaker 4: getting the you know, well, there you go.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Yeah, we talked a little bit about that. Yeah at
- 23:30Speaker 3: the panel. What was the vibe on that lukewarm?
- 23:35Speaker 4: Really?
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yep?
- 23:37Speaker 4: Yeah, that's.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Everybody's gonna watch it. Everybody's gonna give it a chance.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Yeah, the vibe I get on the Instagram is like, God,
- 23:46Speaker 4: this looks so bad, but hopefully we're surprised.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Yeah, and I you know, I was in a room
- 23:53Speaker 3: with hardcore Star Trek fans and yeah a new Star
- 23:56Speaker 3: Trek show.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, okay at all?
- 24:00Speaker 2: Yeah where the vibe.
- 24:01Speaker 3: I think the general vibe is, yeah, what you just said,
- 24:03Speaker 3: this is gonna be a disaster. But yeah, everybody was
- 24:06Speaker 3: just like, yeah, Legacy would be nice.
- 24:09Speaker 4: But yeah yeah, yeah, exactly exactly. All right, Well we
- 24:14Speaker 4: should probably get to our main topic, Star Trek. Is
- 24:17Speaker 4: there anything else you want to bring up though or.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Nope, no, we no, I'll maybe as we do listener feedback,
- 24:23Speaker 2: I can talk a little bit more about the comic.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Con Okay, sounds good. All right, well let's get into
- 24:28Speaker 4: Star Trek Nemesis.
- 24:30Speaker 5: Fun will now come out?
- 24:37Speaker 2: Yes, I have thoughts.
- 24:41Speaker 4: Yeah, so let's let's before we get into that, let's
- 24:45Speaker 4: look at the Rotten Tomato score, because I have that
- 24:48Speaker 4: and why not so startric Nemesis. This came out in
- 24:52Speaker 4: two thousand and two, was PG thirteen. It has a
- 24:56Speaker 4: critic rating of thirty seven percent on Rotten to Me,
- 25:00Speaker 4: any fan rating of forty nine percent. This film started
- 25:05Speaker 4: a very young Tom Hardy Plane hard Yeah. Yeah, let's see.
- 25:14Speaker 4: According to Wikipedia, this film had a budget of sixty
- 25:18Speaker 4: million dollars and a box office of sixty seven million dollars.
- 25:23Speaker 4: So not well received at all. No, yeah, no, yeah,
- 25:28Speaker 4: it probably lost money. Because even though that sounds like,
- 25:31Speaker 4: well they made more money, you got to think marketing, budget, marketing.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's the biggest thing that most people that
- 25:38Speaker 3: even people that report on this kind of stuff, they
- 25:41Speaker 3: don't account for.
- 25:42Speaker 2: This was the production budget, right.
- 25:45Speaker 3: And it doesn't include yeah, any of the marketing, which
- 25:49Speaker 3: can almost which some films can double the amount. Yeah, yeah,
- 25:54Speaker 3: it can end one hundred million dollars on the movie
- 25:57Speaker 3: and then another ninety million dollars on marketing.
- 25:59Speaker 4: Right.
- 26:00Speaker 3: And if you don't make two undred million dollars on
- 26:02Speaker 3: that movie, it's you know, it's a financial failure.
- 26:06Speaker 4: Right right.
- 26:08Speaker 2: This movie had a couple.
- 26:10Speaker 3: There was They tried to tap a couple of different
- 26:12Speaker 3: people for directory.
- 26:16Speaker 2: They did ask nick Meyer.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Nick Meyer said no, a couple of people asked to
- 26:21Speaker 3: direct this movie like LeVar Burton and Jonathan Frakes, who.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Oh, they wouldn't ever do it.
- 26:29Speaker 3: No, they would not he uh And and one of
- 26:33Speaker 3: the reasons. Jonathan Frake said that he asked to direct
- 26:37Speaker 3: this movie because he thought it was his responsibility to
- 26:39Speaker 3: ask to direct this movie. But in the end, in
- 26:44Speaker 3: the end, they got Stuart how do you pronounce his
- 26:50Speaker 3: last name?
- 26:50Speaker 2: Bayard start?
- 26:52Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yea, so Stuart Bird when you look up
- 27:02Speaker 3: Stuart Byrd byed. He's listed as an editor, a producer,
- 27:10Speaker 3: and a director. Okay, he he had only directed a
- 27:15Speaker 3: couple other things at all.
- 27:19Speaker 2: He directed.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Oh, everybody remembers this sequel to The Fugitive, right, we
- 27:23Speaker 3: watched it. I mean everybody's got a DVD of the
- 27:26Speaker 3: Future of the Fugitive sequel.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Does anybody remember the Futuitive sequel?
- 27:30Speaker 3: No, it was Us Marshall's because nobody remembers it because
- 27:33Speaker 3: nobody saw it. Right, He's not a director. He's an editor.
- 27:37Speaker 3: He's edited some great things. He edited to Superman nineteen
- 27:41Speaker 3: seventy eight Superman.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Yeah, the Richard Donner cut.
- 27:44Speaker 3: So he Uh, he's an editor and they got him
- 27:48Speaker 3: to direct this movie.
- 27:50Speaker 4: I mean he must have.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Had a big background in Star Trek though. He must
- 27:53Speaker 3: have been a huge Star Trek fan, right, No, he knew
- 27:57Speaker 3: nothing about Star Trek, absolutely zero, and he didn't watch
- 28:02Speaker 3: any Star Trek to Next Generation episodes to prepare for
- 28:05Speaker 3: his role.
- 28:06Speaker 2: As he did.
- 28:07Speaker 4: He did. He did direct maybe one of the best
- 28:10Speaker 4: Steven Sagall films.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Executive decision, Yeah, I saw executive decision. Was that a
- 28:16Speaker 2: Steven Seagal movie. Okay, I saw that.
- 28:18Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't even recognize that movie.
- 28:21Speaker 2: I recognized, Uh, it's great, Oh my god. Yeah, but
- 28:28Speaker 2: you know, Marina sert Marina Sertaz called him an idiot
- 28:33Speaker 2: later on, uh, and she never walked that one back.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Be fair, He's not an idiot. He was just a
- 28:39Speaker 2: horrible director.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, he just did not fit with them.
- 28:45Speaker 2: He knew.
- 28:48Speaker 3: It was so disappointing to so many people, the direction
- 28:52Speaker 3: he took this film. He he didn't acknowledge anything that
- 28:56Speaker 3: came before him. He refused to acknowledge anything that came
- 29:00Speaker 3: before him. He just wanted to do this film his way.
- 29:03Speaker 3: He was annoyed with the cast. The cast was annoyed
- 29:05Speaker 3: with him. Jonathan Frakes said he was extremely disappointed in
- 29:09Speaker 3: this movie. You know, I I I told Jonathan Frakes
- 29:16Speaker 3: in person famously, and I've said it before in the
- 29:18Speaker 3: show when I when I met him a few years ago.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I said, if they had had you direct Star Trek.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Nemesis, they would be making Star Trek twenty three right now. Yeah,
- 29:28Speaker 3: And he looked at me and said, from your mouth
- 29:31Speaker 3: to God's ears.
- 29:33Speaker 2: And this this movie.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Was just one, in my opinion, in the podcaster's opinion,
- 29:40Speaker 3: was one mistake after another.
- 29:42Speaker 2: So other than that, I have almost no feelings about it.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Do you haven't.
- 29:46Speaker 4: I mean, the only thing they got right is they
- 29:48Speaker 4: got Tom Hardy in there.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Yea, he was.
- 29:51Speaker 4: He was trying as best he could to make it work.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Oh, yes, he was trying.
- 29:56Speaker 4: He was trying.
- 29:58Speaker 3: He tried so hard that even after the commercial failure
- 30:01Speaker 3: of this movie, he got uh he was depressed and
- 30:05Speaker 3: got into drugs a little bit, Yeah, because of this film,
- 30:10Speaker 3: because he thought this was gonna be a jumping point
- 30:12Speaker 3: for his career.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Well.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Yeah, you have to remember he was a nobody in.
- 30:16Speaker 3: The grit He was completely unknown. Yeah, and I got
- 30:19Speaker 3: to handed to Tom Hardy. He went from you know,
- 30:23Speaker 3: a bean pole in this movie, yeah, to eventually playing Baine.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Right.
- 30:29Speaker 2: And if you had asked me, you know twenty years ago,
- 30:33Speaker 2: who from this movie is gonna end up playing Baine?
- 30:36Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 30:37Speaker 2: I wouldn't have picked Tom Hardy.
- 30:39Speaker 4: You would be like, oh yea, I want to see
- 30:41Speaker 4: Batman fightin.
- 30:41Speaker 2: On right, Yeah, that had been a quick one. Uh. Yeah,
- 30:46Speaker 2: the dude balked up over the years.
- 30:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Love Tom Hardy, love everything he's been in. I'm glad
- 30:52Speaker 3: he got over this hump in his career.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah too.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Yeah, let's talk about the movie a little bit.
- 30:59Speaker 4: Yeah, the movie, the premise is, uh, there's been an
- 31:04Speaker 4: attack on the Romulin Senate and and uh so the
- 31:10Speaker 4: what is it they after that?
- 31:12Speaker 2: Though?
- 31:13Speaker 4: They're the Federation is told, hey, the the Romulins want
- 31:17Speaker 4: to have peace after this attack, right, I guess right,
- 31:21Speaker 4: And so they send they send the Enterprise to go
- 31:24Speaker 4: and talk to the Romulins and find out what's going on.
- 31:27Speaker 4: It ends up the Senate is now being run by
- 31:30Speaker 4: shins On, and so the Federation wants to find out
- 31:33Speaker 4: if shins On is serious and and what's up with him?
- 31:37Speaker 4: And uh, it ends up shins On is a Picard clone. Yes,
- 31:42Speaker 4: he is from a from a failed past plan project, yeah,
- 31:48Speaker 4: to replace him with a with a clone, I guess, yeah,
- 31:55Speaker 4: A ploy to start a war, yes yeah. Uh. And
- 32:01Speaker 4: from there on out we also find a a prototype
- 32:06Speaker 4: of data. So we have two evil clones running around.
- 32:09Speaker 4: One is an idiot, one is smart, and uh, you know,
- 32:15Speaker 4: it ends up that Shinzon happened to have found the
- 32:18Speaker 4: prototype clone and left it scattered on a moon or
- 32:21Speaker 4: a planet I forget what it is. Yeah, and uh
- 32:25Speaker 4: and and was that was all part of his evil plan.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a backstory about how he finds how he
- 32:33Speaker 2: finds before.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, he's before ends up getting dismantled and
- 32:38Speaker 3: then he gets found when I when I okay, so
- 32:41Speaker 3: let me back up. I did not watch this movie, okay,
- 32:47Speaker 3: I uh, like just regular watching a movie. I actually
- 32:53Speaker 3: last night I watched the common commentary okay, okay with
- 32:58Speaker 3: Denise and Michaelakuda. Okay, that was cool.
- 33:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:02Speaker 3: I really enjoyed their insight in the movie. They were
- 33:05Speaker 3: very even keeled about their opinions about, you know, the director.
- 33:10Speaker 3: They just mostly were just mentioning, you know, some of
- 33:12Speaker 3: the technical aspects and stuff like that, which is, you know,
- 33:16Speaker 3: that's what they do. But on Thursday on when I
- 33:23Speaker 3: was working, I actually listened to the audiobook of this
- 33:28Speaker 3: oh okay yeah yeah, And that's available free on YouTube.
- 33:32Speaker 4: So if you're if you.
- 33:35Speaker 3: Got a you know, an itch and to listen to
- 33:39Speaker 3: this on audiobook. And so it was interesting because it
- 33:42Speaker 3: included the audiobook of this included scenes all the deleted scenes. Okay,
- 33:48Speaker 3: so it was you know, I enjoyed it because it
- 33:51Speaker 3: was Star Trek, but it was more storytelling that I
- 33:54Speaker 3: didn't care for.
- 33:55Speaker 4: But there was so many things in this movie that
- 33:58Speaker 4: I started, like, not necessarily nitpicking, but thought, oh, that's
- 34:02Speaker 4: weird that they did that. So like, okay, when they
- 34:07Speaker 4: when they later went on to reboot Star Trek in
- 34:09Speaker 4: the two thousand and nine film, Right, your last movie
- 34:14Speaker 4: dealt with the Romulins, so then your big reboot film
- 34:17Speaker 4: is going to be dealing with.
- 34:19Speaker 2: The Romulins, right.
- 34:21Speaker 4: And then the other thing is, okay, so in your
- 34:26Speaker 4: previous film Nemesis, how do you defeat the Romulins? Well,
- 34:29Speaker 4: you throw the Enterprise right at them, right and and
- 34:32Speaker 4: and and ram them. In the reboot film, first five
- 34:37Speaker 4: minutes of the movie, let's let's throw a starship into.
- 34:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 34:43Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it's like I thought we were rebooting guys,
- 34:49Speaker 4: that's going on here. Yeah, just let's do a lot
- 34:52Speaker 4: of the same things.
- 34:54Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, A lot of this movie didn't make sense.
- 34:57Speaker 3: And the reason why a lot of this movie didn't
- 34:59Speaker 3: make sense is speak because the director didn't care. I'm
- 35:03Speaker 3: not just saying that because I didn't like the director.
- 35:05Speaker 3: I'm saying that because by his own admission, he didn't
- 35:08Speaker 3: know anything about Star Trek and he was more interested
- 35:10Speaker 3: in making an action film than making a Star Trek film, right.
- 35:14Speaker 3: And that's what everybody you know, that's the cast and
- 35:17Speaker 3: the crew and everybody from Rick Berman to LeVar Burton,
- 35:24Speaker 3: Jonathan Frakes, I'm talking about people who have directed Star
- 35:27Speaker 3: Trek and produced Star Trek.
- 35:29Speaker 2: That's what they all had to say. He just didn't care.
- 35:31Speaker 2: He just he wanted to make an action film. You know.
- 35:35Speaker 3: And I've seen the director's commentary before, years and years
- 35:38Speaker 3: ago with with the director as commentary, and he he
- 35:42Speaker 3: spoke as if he had a little bit a little
- 35:46Speaker 3: bit of disdain for Star Trek or maybe the people
- 35:48Speaker 3: that worked in that franchise. You know, I don't care
- 35:53Speaker 3: what they want. I wanted to do this and I
- 35:55Speaker 3: wanted to do that, and you know, he didn't care
- 35:58Speaker 3: if it made sense within the franchise. He wanted to
- 36:02Speaker 3: make an action film, and that I don't know why
- 36:06Speaker 3: Paramount or whoever wanted him so badly. Maybe Paramount wanted
- 36:12Speaker 3: an action film, but.
- 36:13Speaker 4: I'm okay, I'm just guessing from that timeframe, their biggest
- 36:18Speaker 4: hit was was First Contact, and that was an action film.
- 36:23Speaker 4: And so when they're getting pitches and this guy goes, yeah,
- 36:26Speaker 4: so I want to do an action movie, they went, yes,
- 36:30Speaker 4: that's our guy.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Or they could have gone, our biggest hit has been
- 36:35Speaker 3: Star Trek, First Contact. Who we're going to get to
- 36:37Speaker 3: direct this next film? Well, who directed the last one?
- 36:40Speaker 4: Yeah? Or or they went the last movie was basically
- 36:45Speaker 4: criticized for being a long episode. We need to do
- 36:47Speaker 4: something completely different, right, And in his pitches like I
- 36:50Speaker 4: don't want to do an episode, I want him to
- 36:52Speaker 4: make it this, this and this.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 36:55Speaker 3: Oh, they're like, oh, you've never seen an episode of
- 36:57Speaker 3: Star Trek. Great, we don't want to make another episode
- 36:59Speaker 3: of Star Trek.
- 36:59Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, like that kind of thought. Yeah yeah, so,
- 37:06Speaker 4: I mean it's crazy.
- 37:07Speaker 2: But Ghostbusters to Tully was like, guys, I got my
- 37:12Speaker 2: law degree at night school. They're like, that's great, Lewis
- 37:15Speaker 2: we were we were arrested at night.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Right, Yeah? Yeah, so it's uh, it was. It was
- 37:25Speaker 4: rough Man.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Uh.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Another thing I wanted to point out that I thought
- 37:28Speaker 4: was hilarious was after they meet Shinzon, they go back
- 37:32Speaker 4: to the Enterprise and at one point, uh, Picard goes,
- 37:36Speaker 4: uh report to Starfleet what we've said. And I kept
- 37:39Speaker 4: thinking about the poor guy that's been like, yeah, so
- 37:42Speaker 4: we met Shinzon. Uh, he's kind of an evil Piccard clone. Yeah, Like,
- 37:50Speaker 4: how do you explain that?
- 37:52Speaker 2: The admirles, like, you know, three weeks later they actually
- 37:55Speaker 2: disseminate that reporter of.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Like what yeah, yeah, somebody get Picard on some space
- 38:03Speaker 3: right now.
- 38:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Want to talk to Admiral Janeway too.
- 38:10Speaker 4: Oh that one too, Yeah.
- 38:11Speaker 3: Admiral Janeway. Kate Marlgrew makes a cameo appearance. She's the
- 38:15Speaker 3: one that orders Picard to the Neutrals and the whole
- 38:17Speaker 3: reason why. So they tried to explain away why the
- 38:22Speaker 3: Enterprise was the only ship and range. It was because
- 38:26Speaker 3: shin Zen had put the pieces of data, the pieces
- 38:30Speaker 3: of before on the planet.
- 38:32Speaker 2: That was part of their plan was to lure the Enterprise.
- 38:36Speaker 4: Away from everyone else and away from.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Everyone else, you know, a knit that I when I
- 38:41Speaker 3: first watched the movie that I didn't understand was there
- 38:44Speaker 3: was six pieces of before, two arms, two legs of
- 38:48Speaker 3: torso would a head.
- 38:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Wharf says that there were six distinct positronic signatures. Yes,
- 38:56Speaker 3: I didn't understand that. Why would a robotic arm emit
- 39:01Speaker 3: a positronic signature? That didn't make sense to me.
- 39:05Speaker 2: In my mind, the only thing that would admit a
- 39:08Speaker 2: positronic signature would be his head, which is where my
- 39:11Speaker 2: brain's at. I don't know. That was just a silly
- 39:15Speaker 2: thought that I had. But the Scimitar, the Scimitar, yes,
- 39:25Speaker 2: I don't know. Like they just said, Okay, let's make
- 39:29Speaker 2: a ship that's just badass. It's it's twice as big
- 39:32Speaker 2: as the Enterprise.
- 39:33Speaker 3: It's got fifty two phaser banks and ninety photon torpedo launchers,
- 39:38Speaker 3: just all primary and secondary shields. And I remember my
- 39:42Speaker 3: my friend Gabe at the time said, why doesn't every
- 39:45Speaker 3: ship have primary and secondary shields?
- 39:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that makes sense right.
- 39:50Speaker 4: Yeah, A Tree says, the movie has a Beatle, has
- 39:56Speaker 4: them beautiful Scorpion class attack flyers, and the Argo and
- 40:00Speaker 4: Buggy scene was hilarious. Oh dude, I can I can
- 40:03Speaker 4: go off about the Argo Dune Buggy like, oh yes,
- 40:06Speaker 4: please do yes that thing like okay, So the idea
- 40:12Speaker 4: that Starfleet was like, okay, they're gonna go on planets
- 40:15Speaker 4: they named may need to travel. We're gonna give them
- 40:18Speaker 4: a a vehicle to travel on. It's not gonna have
- 40:21Speaker 4: any protection on it. No, no, you know, no paneling, no,
- 40:27Speaker 4: no force field, nothing like windscreen, no windscreen.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Just I'm sure give my protection.
- 40:33Speaker 4: You know, they're going to strange new worlds and we
- 40:36Speaker 4: have no idea of the environments, but I'm sure it'll
- 40:38Speaker 4: be sunny.
- 40:39Speaker 2: So yep.
- 40:40Speaker 4: So yeah, well we'll put them in that and you
- 40:43Speaker 4: know what for for just you know, ships and giggles.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Let's put a gun on it, right absolutely, Yeah.
- 40:49Speaker 2: Well that that brings up another point too. Uh.
- 40:52Speaker 3: They they're scanning the planet and they're like, what's down there?
- 40:56Speaker 3: Just a pre warp Uh, industrial societ is down there?
- 41:01Speaker 2: Great? Uh, let's just go down there and you know.
- 41:05Speaker 4: Were literally the last movie was like we have to
- 41:07Speaker 4: hide from these people, right prime directive what Yeah, yeah,
- 41:11Speaker 4: who cares?
- 41:12Speaker 2: You know, let him Uh, and we're gonna shoot at
- 41:14Speaker 2: him too. So and we're gonna land and take off
- 41:17Speaker 2: a shuttle craft.
- 41:18Speaker 4: Yeah, no problem, your gods have descended and they are angry.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Uh yeah, the Argo, Yeah, the Argo.
- 41:31Speaker 4: It's ridiculous that said I wish they made a toy one.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Oh absolutely, yeah, I thought it was cool. Yeah, I mean,
- 41:42Speaker 3: who doesn't like doom buggies and and uh yeah a
- 41:49Speaker 3: tray a tray U Prime.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the Scorpion class attack fight flyers. Those are cool. Yeah,
- 41:56Speaker 2: I love the looks of those. I think there should
- 41:58Speaker 2: be more, uh of those types of you know, enemy
- 42:03Speaker 2: ships or even Starfleet should have something like that.
- 42:06Speaker 4: You may get your wish in the new Rebuilt film.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Maybe I'll get my wish in the New Reboot. Didn't
- 42:11Speaker 3: you know Star Trek Beyond had something kind of like
- 42:14Speaker 3: that that that decapitated the Enterprise.
- 42:18Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah yeah they had.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Like single single person fighters.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Yeah, they had the yeah, the swarm, Yeah.
- 42:25Speaker 3: The swarm that were kind of cool. But yeah, the
- 42:29Speaker 3: Scorpion class attack flyers. You know, there's another thing too,
- 42:37Speaker 3: picard being able to pilot that Scorpion attack fighter if
- 42:43Speaker 3: everything's in not just a foreign language, but a foreign layout.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 42:51Speaker 3: I mean I guess you could say, you know, because
- 42:54Speaker 3: the data had a hard time deciphering the door code. Now,
- 42:58Speaker 3: it might not be because he was having a trouble
- 43:00Speaker 3: reading the language. I think he was trying to decipher
- 43:02Speaker 3: the encryption as well.
- 43:04Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, so I don't know.
- 43:08Speaker 3: Maybe because it's Riemen and Reeman is kind of close
- 43:10Speaker 3: to Romulin, and Romulin is kind of close to Vulcan,
- 43:12Speaker 3: and people in the Federation kind of know Vulcan maybe
- 43:15Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 43:15Speaker 2: Somebody like Picard might know. That's an awful big leap though.
- 43:20Speaker 4: You know, I'm thinking about the scene where like they're
- 43:24Speaker 4: they're all talking for the first time and and Shinzon's
- 43:28Speaker 4: got his viceroy with them, m hm, you know, and
- 43:32Speaker 4: I get wanting Tom Hardy to be like, yes, I'm
- 43:35Speaker 4: evil Picard and this is my Dracula.
- 43:40Speaker 2: The Rimans too. This is the first time you've seen
- 43:43Speaker 2: the Riemons. They're like a slave class.
- 43:47Speaker 3: Yes, they were used in the They mentioned something about
- 43:51Speaker 3: the Dominion War.
- 43:51Speaker 2: They were used as assault fighters. And in the Dominion War.
- 43:55Speaker 2: I mean, if you're.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Gonna fight Jim Hanard, you get some Draculas, So it right, right.
- 44:00Speaker 3: So I'm also trying to figure out where they came from.
- 44:03Speaker 3: So we know that Romulins and Vulcans were once part
- 44:07Speaker 3: of the same species, right, and that sometime ago they
- 44:11Speaker 3: split off. The Ramens split off from the Vulcans, and
- 44:15Speaker 3: the Romulans presumably went off and founded Romulus, and then
- 44:22Speaker 3: a group of them split off and became Riemons.
- 44:27Speaker 4: I don't know, because Hmans just native to that other
- 44:30Speaker 4: planet to Remus.
- 44:32Speaker 2: But they also they also sort of say that they
- 44:34Speaker 2: also sort of imply there's a connection between the Riemans
- 44:37Speaker 2: and the Vulcans because the Riemans have a little bit
- 44:40Speaker 2: of telepathic ability.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Okay, how about this? So in Enterprise they answered the
- 44:46Speaker 4: whole klingon Augments thing, right, and that's why they look
- 44:49Speaker 4: so different in the original series. Maybe this is maybe
- 44:52Speaker 4: the Riemans are the Vulcan or the Romulus version of Augments, Okay,
- 44:58Speaker 4: and that's why it looks so different.
- 45:00Speaker 3: I just think it's weird that they have the telepathic
- 45:04Speaker 3: ability the Romulans don't.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Right, But that's what I mean. That's why they have
- 45:09Speaker 4: it because they're the Augments.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Okay, not because there's a connection between them and Vulcans, right, Okay,
- 45:16Speaker 2: all right.
- 45:17Speaker 4: I mean that's my head canon.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Yeah, why not? Sure? Sure? At this point, you're on
- 45:23Speaker 2: shackle from Cannon to Daniel.
- 45:24Speaker 4: That's right, that's right, that's right, break them chains. But
- 45:31Speaker 4: Ron Perlman did a great job as a viceroy.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Loved Ron Perlman.
- 45:35Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, he was fantastic in that.
- 45:39Speaker 2: I was watching Cinema Sins and and and one of.
- 45:42Speaker 3: The sins he was about to do, He's like, oh,
- 45:44Speaker 3: discount Rond Peerlman. Oh wait a minute, that is Ron Peerlman.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was great.
- 45:49Speaker 3: Check out Cinema Sins for this movie too. I got
- 45:52Speaker 3: to see them the offiserates.
- 45:55Speaker 4: I bet, I bet.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:59Speaker 4: So overall you like this movie then.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Oh, by far my favorite star Trek Yeah yeah, today
- 46:07Speaker 2: this section thirty one star Trek five.
- 46:10Speaker 4: Right, all they're all great? Yeah uh yeah, this one
- 46:15Speaker 4: was pretty weak. It was kind of sad to see
- 46:19Speaker 4: them good go out on a bad note like this.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Yeah and there, Okay, there were some good parts of
- 46:25Speaker 2: this movie. I did enjoy some of the.
- 46:27Speaker 3: Action sequences, right, I liked some of them were a
- 46:32Speaker 3: bit over the top and a little bit like like
- 46:35Speaker 3: they were trying to be a little too semantic.
- 46:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 46:41Speaker 3: The scene between you know, I was I was definitely
- 46:43Speaker 3: rooting during that fight between the Viceroy and Riker, you know,
- 46:47Speaker 3: number one and Number one against each other.
- 46:50Speaker 2: You know, I did like.
- 46:56Speaker 3: There was I kind of liked the finality of it.
- 46:59Speaker 3: You know, the scene in the ready room where the
- 47:01Speaker 3: card looks at everybody says, we have to stop this.
- 47:04Speaker 3: All other concerns are secondary, and he looked, you know,
- 47:07Speaker 3: he looks at Will, you know, even if we have
- 47:10Speaker 3: to all die, even if you can't get married, we
- 47:12Speaker 3: have to stop this, and and sort of Will's non
- 47:16Speaker 3: spoken line to everybody else where, he looks and like.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we get it. Was good.
- 47:23Speaker 3: And you know the scene the death of Data spoiler
- 47:28Speaker 3: alert if you haven't seen the movie.
- 47:32Speaker 2: You know that in the in the novelization. The scene
- 47:37Speaker 2: that got to me was in the novelization they talk
- 47:41Speaker 2: about in the in the moment between Data putting the
- 47:47Speaker 2: the mini transporter which I'd like to talk about that too,
- 47:50Speaker 2: on the card and beaming away and the instant that
- 47:53Speaker 2: he fires onto the what the what the what's it called?
- 48:00Speaker 3: The yeah, the scimitars generator thing, the hailron generator in
- 48:07Speaker 3: the In the novelization, it says that, uh, Data for
- 48:12Speaker 3: like a second in that one second, he relives his
- 48:16Speaker 3: entire life.
- 48:17Speaker 2: Oh wow, because he's capable.
- 48:18Speaker 3: Of doing that, because he's an. So he goes through
- 48:21Speaker 3: every memory ever had from being activated on omicron data,
- 48:27Speaker 3: you know, and and then reliving you know, whistling on
- 48:30Speaker 3: the Holid deck and and being with Tashi Yar and
- 48:34Speaker 3: and having these adventures with his with his crew on
- 48:37Speaker 3: the Enterprise D and then on the Enterprise D all
- 48:39Speaker 3: the way up to the moment where he's about ready
- 48:41Speaker 3: to fire, and it basically.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Says, you know, I'm I'm good.
- 48:44Speaker 3: And then he fires, and I'm like, hmm, that was
- 48:49Speaker 3: I wish in the movie they had had something like that,
- 48:53Speaker 3: a seven second flashback scene, yeah, you know, And so
- 48:59Speaker 3: that he has his most poignant is his most emotional
- 49:04Speaker 3: moments that we can see that I think that would
- 49:06Speaker 3: have drawn the audience in even further.
- 49:10Speaker 2: And then he fires and is destroyed that portable transporter. Yeah.
- 49:16Speaker 2: So I have the Enterprise D technical manual. Oh okay,
- 49:21Speaker 2: here we go, okay.
- 49:23Speaker 3: And it talks about the transporter system. These transporter systems
- 49:28Speaker 3: are huge, Like you look at the transporter room and
- 49:31Speaker 3: the Enterprise D and you see how tall the transporter
- 49:34Speaker 3: room itself is right, the trans like the guts of
- 49:37Speaker 3: the transporter go down as just as deep. And there's
- 49:41Speaker 3: a lot of machinery involved, and each piece of machinery
- 49:43Speaker 3: has a specific function. The transporter takes five seconds and
- 49:47Speaker 3: it goes through those five seconds everything that it needs
- 49:50Speaker 3: to do, and all the things that is there, all
- 49:53Speaker 3: the machinery that's there, the buffers and the emitters and
- 49:56Speaker 3: all that stuff. There ain't no way in hell that
- 49:59Speaker 3: all that that fits in that little tiny brooch just
- 50:04Speaker 3: there's Now, if it was a transporter beacon like it
- 50:08Speaker 3: somehow reached out, reached out to the to the ether
- 50:14Speaker 3: and said, like an enhancement. Yeah, whatever transporter is out there,
- 50:17Speaker 3: I'm gonna lock onto that. And in an emergency situation
- 50:20Speaker 3: I can, I can get behind that. But the fact
- 50:23Speaker 3: that an entire transporter is in this little.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Tiny I don't buy it. Plus, how would a transporter
- 50:29Speaker 2: transport itself?
- 50:31Speaker 4: Okay, since you're so angry at the pretending machine warning warning,
- 50:36Speaker 4: NERD alert, NERD alert.
- 50:41Speaker 2: I'm angry. I could forgive. I could forgive Stewart if
- 50:47Speaker 2: it were Stuart Buyer, if it were this.
- 50:49Speaker 4: Or perhaps maybe this is more.
- 50:53Speaker 2: That's sarcastic fan.
- 50:55Speaker 4: You mus be a devil with the ladies.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yes I am.
- 51:01Speaker 4: There you go, there you go.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Oh, you know, there were so many knits in this
- 51:08Speaker 2: I looked at the trivia section of IMDb and I
- 51:11Speaker 2: looked at the you know, goofs, and there's just so
- 51:15Speaker 2: there's just so many of them. Yeah, there's so many goofs.
- 51:19Speaker 2: I'm not even gonna get into any of them. The
- 51:22Speaker 2: one thing about this movie though, that I did like
- 51:25Speaker 2: it was the music was done by Jerry Goldsmith. It
- 51:28Speaker 2: was one. It was the last Star Trek.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Project he did and the second to last movie project
- 51:35Speaker 3: he did before he passed away in two thousand and four.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Jerry Goldsmith is my He's in my top three favorite composers,
- 51:42Speaker 3: probably my top composer. So you know, John Williams, Danny Elfman,
- 51:50Speaker 3: you know, Jerry Goldsmith. I love his music just you
- 51:55Speaker 3: know First Contact, Love the theme from First Contact, just
- 52:01Speaker 3: and the music in this movie was great.
- 52:04Speaker 2: Loved it.
- 52:05Speaker 4: So if only, if only in this new reboot film
- 52:12Speaker 4: we get daft punk to be the music.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Come yeah yeah.
- 52:20Speaker 3: And of course you know, if you ask me who
- 52:21Speaker 3: do you want to do the music for the next
- 52:23Speaker 3: you know Jerry Goldsmith, that's the son that's also a uh,
- 52:27Speaker 3: pretty good composer in his own right.
- 52:30Speaker 2: But you know, we don't want anything legacy.
- 52:34Speaker 4: Involved, No, no, why would we.
- 52:37Speaker 3: No vital thoughts about this train wreck of a Next
- 52:43Speaker 3: Gen movie though, I mean next Generation.
- 52:45Speaker 4: I had a lot of fun kind of nitpicking it
- 52:48Speaker 4: in the back of my head.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
- 52:52Speaker 4: It was I'm glad we're done. I'm glad we're through it.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Yea.
- 52:56Speaker 4: All now I have something to be thankful for Thanksgiving
- 52:58Speaker 4: that it's over.
- 53:00Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah, I'm i you know, And I'm glad that
- 53:05Speaker 2: Picard season three happened.
- 53:08Speaker 3: Yeah, because if Picard Season three had not have happened,
- 53:11Speaker 3: this would have been the legacy of the Next Generation crew, right,
- 53:15Speaker 3: and I'm glad it wasn't.
- 53:17Speaker 4: Oh we got somebody else joined in the chat, Yeah,
- 53:19Speaker 4: gotma wait, yeah, hey, there you go. And they want
- 53:26Speaker 4: Brent Spiner to play something something.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I'd love Brent Spider.
- 53:32Speaker 3: Even if Brent Spider didn't come back as data, you know,
- 53:36Speaker 3: he could play something.
- 53:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, why not you get Chris Pine back?
- 53:42Speaker 2: Anybody anybody really?
- 53:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I just can't wait for Star Trek with Kevin
- 53:49Speaker 4: hard in it put him in.
- 53:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'll take that. I'll take why not? Why not?
- 53:57Speaker 4: Yeah? All right? Well, well on that note, should we
- 54:01Speaker 4: get to listener feedback?
- 54:03Speaker 2: Yes? Please, all right, let's.
- 54:05Speaker 4: Just do that listener feedback, all right. If you want
- 54:13Speaker 4: to join us for the show, you can X up
- 54:15Speaker 4: in the chat. Just put an X and that lets
- 54:17Speaker 4: me know that you want to join us. In the meantime,
- 54:21Speaker 4: while we're doing that, we should also let people know
- 54:25Speaker 4: how to call in and leave a voicemail. You can
- 54:28Speaker 4: call in on our phone number five seven zero six
- 54:31Speaker 4: to six to one zero zero zero one. That's five
- 54:35Speaker 4: seven zero six to six one zero zero zero one.
- 54:39Speaker 4: If you keep it under two minutes, I will animate
- 54:41Speaker 4: you and it'll be kind of funny. Also, we are
- 54:44Speaker 4: on social media all across as trek cast TNG. We're
- 54:48Speaker 4: happy to get your messages and hear from you. So
- 54:51Speaker 4: that would be great to hear from you, guys.
- 54:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and send us an email to You can send
- 54:56Speaker 3: an email to trek cast tng at gmail dot com.
- 55:00Speaker 3: And I've got my own personal one strong Beard one
- 55:03Speaker 3: seven one at gmail dot com, so we have heads.
- 55:06Speaker 3: I don't have any emails this week, but We've had
- 55:08Speaker 3: some emails past few weeks, so it's been great. Keep
- 55:10Speaker 3: them comming, uh, and we'll read them live.
- 55:13Speaker 2: On the air.
- 55:14Speaker 4: Yeah. And then, uh, you know, I did ask our
- 55:19Speaker 4: Facebook group about Star Trek Nemesis and their thoughts on it,
- 55:24Speaker 4: and we did get some responses. So I do kind
- 55:27Speaker 4: of want to go over that. Let me bring up
- 55:29Speaker 4: the Facebook real quick. So let's see. So former Trek
- 55:36Speaker 4: cast host Darren Benjamin did comment on this, and I
- 55:41Speaker 4: thought that this was kind of funny. So he did
- 55:44Speaker 4: say that they had a screening of Nemesis for the
- 55:48Speaker 4: Star Trek Experience employees at the time, okay, and he
- 55:52Speaker 4: said after watching that he thought the movie would get
- 55:55Speaker 4: completely destroyed by Lord of the Rings the Two Towers,
- 55:58Speaker 4: which was also released the same day. Oh so yeah,
- 56:02Speaker 4: so that's pretty right.
- 56:03Speaker 2: So did Lord of the Rings of Two Towers? Did
- 56:05Speaker 2: they gross more than sixty.
- 56:08Speaker 4: Just slightly?
- 56:09Speaker 2: Yes?
- 56:09Speaker 4: Just slightly, yes, slightly, yes, let's see. Zachary Thompson went
- 56:14Speaker 4: on to say that he wishes we could have a
- 56:17Speaker 4: Dina Meyers episode.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Uh yeah, yeah, went yeah, yeah.
- 56:23Speaker 3: She was also uh, she also played Batgirl in Birds
- 56:29Speaker 3: of Prey. Birds of Prey was sort of a wb
- 56:33Speaker 3: uh sort of made by the same people that made Smallville,
- 56:36Speaker 3: right right. It was only one season, it was a
- 56:38Speaker 3: little hokey, didn't have much budget, but I enjoyed it.
- 56:40Speaker 2: It was it was kind of cool.
- 56:42Speaker 4: It was a show.
- 56:44Speaker 2: It was a show.
- 56:45Speaker 4: It was a show. Yeah.
- 56:46Speaker 6: And then he's a bit of all right, yeah, she's
- 56:50Speaker 6: very alright yes, and then uh, Mike Medina and myself
- 56:55Speaker 6: went on about what we would call this film.
- 56:57Speaker 4: He went for starting venom. I went for starch like
- 57:00Speaker 4: English rapper because if you don't know, Tom Hardy used
- 57:02Speaker 4: to be a rapper back in the nineties.
- 57:04Speaker 2: Star Trenk Fury Road Ye start road.
- 57:09Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, so there you go. Okay, uh, we do
- 57:15Speaker 4: have Chasbis on the line, so let me bring him in.
- 57:20Speaker 4: There you go. You know, at this point, we might
- 57:22Speaker 4: as well just call it Chasbits Feedback instead of.
- 57:24Speaker 2: Listener chas feedback.
- 57:26Speaker 7: Where is everybody? That's right, that's right, Century, where's our
- 57:31Speaker 7: old guys?
- 57:31Speaker 4: Come on? I know, yeah, come on back everybody.
- 57:35Speaker 7: Yeah, hipster and others?
- 57:38Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I know, yeah yeah yeah man, So what'd.
- 57:41Speaker 2: You think of the movie? My friends have threatened to
- 57:43Speaker 2: come on the show, so.
- 57:44Speaker 4: I know, I said it, well, school friend, Yeah, this
- 57:49Speaker 4: is the first.
- 57:49Speaker 7: Star Trek movie I saw in theaters.
- 57:52Speaker 4: Okay, okay, and.
- 57:53Speaker 7: I brought my friend. I was all excited. I was like, yes,
- 57:56Speaker 7: let's go see Star Trek.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:58Speaker 7: And afterwards each there was like.
- 58:01Speaker 4: That's.
- 58:03Speaker 7: It's kind of a stupid movie. So do you even
- 58:08Speaker 7: know what went on?
- 58:09Speaker 2: Though?
- 58:13Speaker 7: It was it was kind of hard to explain. I
- 58:14Speaker 7: was like, Plus, Tom Hardy didn't look anything like Pard,
- 58:21Speaker 7: you know.
- 58:22Speaker 2: O you know?
- 58:25Speaker 7: Now now they would the age Captain Picard, you know,
- 58:31Speaker 7: and well.
- 58:31Speaker 3: The original script had uh Picard, had Patrick Stewart playing
- 58:35Speaker 3: both parts.
- 58:36Speaker 7: Okay, that would have been cool if you could have
- 58:38Speaker 7: you know, they didn't have the technology back then, but
- 58:41Speaker 7: to dage him and having hadn't do that.
- 58:45Speaker 3: But well, I think the idea is they were gonna
- 58:48Speaker 3: have him played both parts, that his aging had already
- 58:51Speaker 3: taken place, like they already did the the temporal RNA whatever.
- 58:57Speaker 7: I think that would have been a better fit.
- 59:00Speaker 4: Some Yeah, it would have made more sense when he's
- 59:02Speaker 4: in shadow and then you see him, yes.
- 59:05Speaker 2: You know, and evil Patrick Stewart would have been much
- 59:08Speaker 2: more menacing.
- 59:10Speaker 4: Only if they did a really bad French accent that
- 59:13Speaker 4: he does. Yeah, after every yes, real money python stuff.
- 59:33Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my goodness.
- 59:35Speaker 4: That would have made the movie so much better.
- 59:39Speaker 2: Now if it.
- 59:40Speaker 7: Hardy came out on the Bain voice to be like,
- 59:42Speaker 7: oh yes.
- 59:47Speaker 4: Dude, if you're gonna do evil clones, why not just
- 59:49Speaker 4: bring in Thomas Raker to.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Lore.
- 59:55Speaker 3: We get more, we get an evil Dury, no reason,
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: mirror universe Kira. Yeah, yes, she could try to seduce Picard.
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: Yes you think this is your friend?
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: I was holded it.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: That's right, that's right.
- 1:00:16Speaker 7: I mean it would have been perfect. Yeah, send the
- 1:00:19Speaker 7: pain mask on and he just walks out and yeah, crap.
- 1:00:23Speaker 7: And it's so funny, like how like little he is.
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: He's like skinny and like.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: I know, I know when when I remember when Batman
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: uh came out, Batman three came out, They're like Tom
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: Hardy as Bane.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: I'm like, wait a.
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: Minute, the guy from Nemesis is gonna be Bane and
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: I couldn't believe it.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: And then when I first saw the film, I'm.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: Like, wow, yeah, what steroids.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: I want your brand to create Team Man.
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: He did do another movie called Bronson that was y yeah,
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: where he is giant in that as well.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, like Tom Hardy.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: Yeah, the True Prime says if they did that, meaning
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: they if they had Stewart played evil on you would
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: not have the haughty Tom Hardy play in the Pard clone, though.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: You would you could have he could still be in
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: it in like in like flashback scenes.
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: Yeah, how he how he.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: Grew up, and they could even they could even do like,
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: you know, some of the scenes where he's like has
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: the nasty face and everything, him going through like the process,
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: and then they could just end it with him, you know,
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: finally becoming you know, Patrick Stewart Picard.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: You could do. You could do Patrick Stewart Pricard for
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: like the the Shadowy part, right, yeah. And then because
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: his his aging is unstable, like they say, he regresses
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: back to Tom Hardy.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: Oh yeah that could have been that would have worked too. Yep. Yeah,
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: that's a good idea.
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: Do you use him for the flashbacks to establish that
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: that's still the same guy, and then he's regressing back
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: and that's why he needs whatever it is magic blood
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: from the card to stabilize himself.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: Yeah right, okay, I know, yeah, all right, just this movie,
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: this movie. It wasn't just bad, I have bad.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: I have bad vibe Juju's for this movie because what
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: it not only how bad it was, but what it
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: did to the franchise.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: Yees killed the next generation for twenty years?
- 1:02:34Speaker 7: What killed the next generation? And a heart enterprise, you know,
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: because the Enterprise what ended? Yes, a year or two
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: later after this, yep. Yeah, and after that they just
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: they shelled it. And that's what scares me. The way
- 1:02:45Speaker 7: Trek's going right now. It's like, are they going to
- 1:02:47Speaker 7: shelve it for Yeah?
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: I bet we don't get shows after after Strength. Yeah,
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: well because Academy is still gonna be running.
- 1:02:58Speaker 7: But two years, right.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: Two seasons at least?
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Yeah, so, and Stranger World.
- 1:03:07Speaker 7: And then Strange New Worlds. You know, the last two
- 1:03:12Speaker 7: you know, well the last season just wasn't good.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: So no, yeah, we.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: Got two more seasons.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: Everybody liked the panel or the Yeah, the panel I
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: was at yesterday, the Star Trek, the Starfleet International panel.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Everybody did say they liked Strange in Worlds.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: There wasn't a lot of complaining even about season two
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: and season three of Strange New Worlds.
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: Yeah, so, I mean, of everything, it is the most
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: well received.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Yes, oh yeah, absolutely absolutely.
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: But everybody the Cards season.
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: Three of everything that's yeah yeah.
- 1:03:47Speaker 7: And that's number one, and that's only one season, and
- 1:03:49Speaker 7: then you know, lower Decks would probably be second in
- 1:03:53Speaker 7: my opinion, and then Strange New Worlds.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Yeah. We talked about.
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: If I could talk about the panel a little bit.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: We talked about what everybody's favorite series was. There were
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: some older people in the crowd, so a lot of
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: people said the original series I I talked about, right.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: I talked about how yeah, and some of the issues.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: By large, most people are either original series with their
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: favorite or next generation. We talked about if anybody doesn't know, uh.
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: Starfleet International is the largest Star Trek fan club in
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: the world, and they have they have different chapters different
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: regions across the world, and each region has different chapters
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: or ships.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: I I belonged to the uss TECUMSA. I got their
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: card right here. It's kind of like the fib First.

- 1:05:18Speaker 4: I gotta handle something.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: Sure, Okay, they're they're there. They're fan clubs, but they're
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: they're They also work with a lot of charities, you know,
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: for example, the uh, the Starfleet International.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: They were doing a couple of different charities. One of
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: them was you could adopt an alien. They have these
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: little cute, little three D printed aliens that they hand
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: out that were a dollar and every single dollar goes
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: to the local food pantry food bank. So, which I
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: thought was was really neat st dot org.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: It's it's it's w w w dot s f I

- 1:06:14Speaker 3: an individual annual membership. You know, they're they're doing the
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Lord's work. They're doing a good job. They're they're amazing people.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: I definitely recommend you you go and check it out.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: Really good guys, really good guys. So go to go

- 1:06:35Speaker 3: were kind enough to let me uh during their during
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: their panel, I got up for a couple of minutes
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: and talked a little bit about what we do at
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: trek Cast and our our podcast, and everybody was everybody
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: was really excited. I handed out quite a few of
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: the stickers. Everybody loved these, so that was a pretty big,
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: big hit. I I handed out some of the Star
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: Trek Booth nice Starfleet International Booth so nice. Yeah, definitely
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: get go to SFI dot org and check them out.
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: So A tree Prime is asking some questions here about
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: what about the Origins Star Trek film may that may
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: live to see the light of day? It says, according
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: to screen Rant, the Origins film is in pre production.
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: So as far as we know, this movie that was
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: just announced has nothing to do with that Origins film.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: And as far as we know, the Star Trek Origins,
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: whatever this movie ends up being, if it ends up
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: you mean anything. Just because it's in pre production doesn't
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: necessarily means anything. All that means is it's being developed.
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: It's an idea they have. They're trying to flush it
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: out see if they will actually do it. I can't
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: see them going and doing a complete reboot like they're
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: trying to do right now right, and then also coming
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: out with another Origins movie that is setting the beginning
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: of what you just rebooted. It's it's too confusing, you
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: know what I mean. So I don't think the reboot's
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: gonna happen. The Origins is gonna happen unless that is
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: your reboot. Maybe they take ideas from that, they take
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: the ideas from these new guys put them together. I
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: don't know, right, it's too we don't know anything, right,
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: it's all speculation.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'm not.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: I long ago I stopped getting excited by any announcements
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: until I actually yeah, post production pictures or anything like this,
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: because it's all, oh, did you know they're making a
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: new Star Trek movie.
- 1:08:42Speaker 7: Yeah, about ten years ago.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: Yeah. How many New Star Trek movies have we announced
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: that we said, right, been attached to Yeah yeah, like
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: yeah at one time. So yeah, yeah, that's Noah Hawley
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: who did Alien instead like like all these all these people.
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: The other thing people don't think about is whenever that
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: happens and they attach people to them, they have to
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: pay them, right, because they're paying them to develop in
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: the middle of all that, right, But what also happens
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: is all that deficit of payment goes towards Star Trek.
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: So by the time you actually get a movie off
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: the ground, you're going to be starting negative millions of dollars, sure,
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: because you never got the other projects off the ground. Right,
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: So the JJ they were gonna do a fourth film, right,
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: So whoever it is they paid to develop that that's negative.
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: That negative, the No Holly money negative, the Tarantino money negative.
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: There's a few other ones s see something, I forget
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: her name her? Right, Like, there's all these directors and
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: writers that they they've paid money to. So when Miss
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: Reboot finally hits, it may be negative, like fifty million
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: dollars thirty million? Who knows?
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: Keep mentioning Quentin Tarrityo.
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: I'm like, I would love to see Admiral Samuel L.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: Jackson. YEA, what plan you from? They speak federation and
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: what ain't no planet I ever heard of?
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: They speak federation and what I mean? I would not
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: mind Christoph Waltz as a as a Star Trek villain.
- 1:10:20Speaker 7: Yes, I would, My gosh, it would be the perfect villain. Yeah,
- 1:10:26Speaker 7: you just chewed the scenery.
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: He would make an awesome con. Yeah, yeah, he would
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: make a really good con.
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, oh that reminds me. We got to
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: do a show on Star Trek Con.
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: Oh yeah, the the the audio drama. Yeah I finished,
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: did I? Yeah, yeah, we got to talk about that
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: all right. Well, uh, I got one last one.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: So yeah, Jazz, you got anything to before.
- 1:10:57Speaker 7: A well on those name movie. At least they didn't
- 1:11:02Speaker 7: hire the directors of Section thirty one, so yes, that's.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: True, because they should get Stuart byed. Yeah. Yeah, hey,
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: it's such a great time last time.
- 1:11:14Speaker 7: Yes, well did I don't know the directors of this movie?
- 1:11:19Speaker 7: You know, they've actually done good.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: Stuff, so.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it, Yeah, and.
- 1:11:28Speaker 7: I could see it. It might be quirky, it might
- 1:11:31Speaker 7: be fine. You know, hopefully they use let's let's go
- 1:11:34Speaker 7: to strange new worlds. Let's do something cool, you.
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: Know yeah hopefully, Yeah.
- 1:11:41Speaker 7: Let's make it about let's make it about for INGI
- 1:11:45Speaker 7: you know, it be anything. It's a giant universe.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they've got a whole. They got a whole.
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: His I hate to say it, but they have a
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: whole history to pull from, you know, they don't they
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: don't have to ret wheel, which is what I know.
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: I keep talking about him that.
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: That's what the Stuart Bayer did is he tried to
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: reinvent the wheel. They've got this wonderful franchise to.
- 1:12:09Speaker 7: To you know, draw on because one of the guys,
- 1:12:12Speaker 7: he's one the actress from Freaks and Geeks. If you
- 1:12:14Speaker 7: ever watched that show, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, he was
- 1:12:19Speaker 7: like the little geeky kid, right and you know he's
- 1:12:23Speaker 7: actually made something of himself, which is awesome, you know, yeah,
- 1:12:27Speaker 7: after you know it's actually.
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: Done a lot.
- 1:12:30Speaker 7: So yeah, I don't know, just put faith in them,
- 1:12:35Speaker 7: you know, depends.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: On whatever they come out with. I'll watch and we
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: will discuss on the show.
- 1:12:40Speaker 7: M hm, Well we'll watch anything Star Trek's have did
- 1:12:44Speaker 7: one or whatever.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: We will cover it on on Trek cass uh. Speaking
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: of covering it, uh, One.

- 1:14:15Speaker 4: So we just got this coming in from Gabe. He
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: says Star Trek needs its own and or uh, we've
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: talked about this before, Gabe. There's a strong argument that
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: d S nine is the ind.
- 1:14:26Speaker 7: Or for Star Trek yeah, oh they need a new
- 1:14:30Speaker 7: they need a new one.
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: Yeah, they need a new one.
- 1:14:34Speaker 7: Yes, but the generation.
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: Yeah, or rogue one.
