Latest / Elon Musk Podcast / TODAY : Mr. Beast uploads first video to X/Twitter
Transcript
- 0:00Beast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, recently conducted an
- 0:02experiment by uploading a video to Elon Musk's social media
- 0:06platform X and the purpose was to evaluate the platform's ad
- 0:09revenue potential as stated in his video description, he said.
- 0:14I'm curious how much ad revenue a video on X would make, so I'm
- 0:17re uploading this to test it. We'll share Ad Rev next week
- 0:21now. This move marks a significant
- 0:23shift for Mr. Beast, who previously expressed skepticism
- 0:27about the viability of sharing his high budget content on X.
- 0:30Now, despite a friendly relationship with Musk, he'd
- 0:33remarked that even a billion views on X would not cover a
- 0:36fraction of his production costs.
- 0:38However, his latest upload titled $1.00 Car versus $100
- 0:43million car rapidly gained traction, garnering 27,000,000
- 0:48views within just seven hours. This demonstrates Mr. B
- 0:52substantial influence and reach transcending platforms.
- 0:56Now the decision to test out XS platform comes in the wake of
- 1:00changes implemented by Musk, including an ad revenue sharing
- 1:04scheme introduced last year. The scheme aims to incentivize
- 1:08content creators by offering the share of ad revenue for posts.
- 1:11Now as a February, the new monetization strategy had
- 1:14already dispersed $5,000,000 to creators with some reporting
- 1:18significant earnings in this development shows that Musk's
- 1:23ongoing efforts to transform X into a more creator friendly
- 1:26ecosystem are working. Now EX CEO Linda Yaccarino has
- 1:30been actively promoting the platform to content creators.
- 1:33Recent additions to X include shows featuring prominent
- 1:36figures like Don Lemon and Tulsi Gabbard, reflecting the
- 1:40platform's expanding content diversity.
- 1:43And the response to Mr. Beast's video on X has been
- 1:46overwhelmingly positive, with users expressing excitement over
- 1:50having high profile creators like him on the platform.
- 1:53Now this enthusiasm is a clear indicator of the potential shift
- 1:57in the online video sharing space, and Mr. Beast's
- 2:00experiment on X shows that he's established on YouTube, where he
- 2:06has an active user base, and he's been on it since 2012.
- 2:10His rise to fame began in 2018, characterized by his unique
- 2:13approach of donating money, cash money to various online
- 2:17personalities. And in terms of revenue, Mr.
- 2:19Beast is a powerhouse, reportedly earning $54 million
- 2:24in 2021. He's recognized as one of the
- 2:27highest paid content creators on YouTube, pulling in about
- 2:30$5,000,000 monthly, according to Forbes.
- 2:33X's monetization structure is notably different from
- 2:36YouTube's, though. To be eligible for AD revenue
- 2:38sharing on X, users must subscribe to either its Premium
- 2:42or Premium Plus plans, whereas the YouTube requires 100, I'm
- 2:47sorry, 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours.
- 2:52Now the collaboration between Musk and Mr. B signifies a
- 2:55potential shift in content distribution strategies, and if
- 2:59successful, it could encourage other creators to consider
- 3:02alternative platforms like X for their content.
- 3:04Musk encouragement of Mr. BS to join X shows that the strategy
- 3:08to boost the platform's appeal is by attracting high profile
- 3:12and influential content creators.
- 3:14This approach is central to Musk's vision for X as a major
- 3:18player in the digital content era and Mr. Beast.
- 3:22Venture into X territory is a huge test for the platform's
- 3:26ability to support high quality, high cost content, and this is
- 3:30an important case study for other creators evaluating the
- 3:33viability of diversifying their platform portfolios in their
- 3:37presence across the web. Now, the outcome of this
- 3:40experiment will be closely watched as it may signal a new
- 3:43era in content monetization and distribution.
- 3:46Mr. B's success or failure on X could have significant
- 3:50repercussions for content creators and platforms such as
- 3:53Facebook, Instagram, X and YouTube, and the integration of
- 3:58prominent content creators like Mr. B's is vital for X's growth
- 4:01strategy. Their presence not only attracts
- 4:04A wider audience, but also enhances the platform's
- 4:06credibility and diversity in content offerings.
- 4:11And the relationship between Mr. Beast and Musk, characterized by
- 4:14mutual engagement on social media, exemplifies the growing
- 4:18convergence of technology and entertainment.
- 4:20The synergy could pave the way for innovative content
- 4:23strategies and collaborations in the Feedback from EX users
- 4:26regarding Mr. Beast's video has been mixed, with some praising
- 4:30the move as a smart experiment and others curious about the
- 4:33audience appeal for his content on a different platform.
- 4:36This reaction shows that the dynamic nature of audience
- 4:39preferences across various social media platforms is just
- 4:43that diverse. And as the digital content
- 4:46landscape continues to evolve, the experiment by Mr. Beast on
- 4:49us represents A crucial development.
- 4:52It signals the potential for shifts in where and how digital
- 4:55content is consumed and monetized.
- 4:58And Mr. Beast's for A into X shows an important juncture in
- 5:02content creation and distribution.
- 5:04The success of this experiment on X could move Mr. Beast away
- 5:08from YouTube at least a little bit towards X where he could
- 5:12potentially earn as much revenue as he could on YouTube.
