- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar fans, welcome in to Duval Daily Prisoner by Jim Jack.com.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Aluga.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks so much for being here.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: Monday, May 8th.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully y'all had a wonderful weekend.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: Happy Monday.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Right now we're talking about.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: So last week we talked a lot about obviously the schedule release, Trevor Lawrence's hair did not get that hair cut, I thought that was pretty obvious based on the video.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: Don't think Trevor is getting a haircut that looks that bad.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: A, I don't think he's getting a haircut.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: B, if he is, it ain't gonna look like that.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: So fun little bit by the Jaguars, but we talked a lot about last week about the...
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Wars superpowers.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about how they're passing game from 11 personnel like when you just look at how they performed in the back half of the last season throwing the football Trevor Lawrence really dialing in on Liam Cohen's offense.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen figuring out how to best utilize all the guys that they had you know.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Thomas Jr. stretching the field, obviously Jacobie Myers being more of a underneath consistent possession receiver that can attack the middle of the field and Parker Washington really becoming a weapon and Britain Strange being weaponized and Travis E.T.N.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: being weaponized, they're 11 personnel passing game was really strong.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's going to continue moving forward.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about how their run defense is a superpower like.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: best run defense in football, bar non last year, and then the special teams as a whole, absolutely a superpower for the Jaguars.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: One thing I think that they're trying to do in 2026 is make physicality a superpower.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: That helps you win football.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if you can outfysical your opponent,
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: You're probably going to win, out tough them, and there's a couple of games that I think really just stuck with them, Liam Cohen and company against the sea hawks and the Rams.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: They kind of got out physical, so I think that they're really focusing on that.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: not just because of those two games, but also just kind of knowing if you are able to be the more physical, aggressive football team, you're probably going to win football games, and especially late in the season.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: So obviously you have to have talent, but they made some bets, I think, to try to up their level of physicality in specific ways.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think every draft pick and every player that they brought in
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: via free agency, which was not a lot, but every player they have brought back into the building, every player that they signed or drafted brings a level of physicality.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: I really do believe that.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: But there was a couple of specific spots, I think, that they really on paper have upgraded the physicality in a pretty big way.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: And at running back, like Chris Rodriguez is a tougher,
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: And then I think at guard.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: you bring in a manual pregnant on in the third round, that up to your level of physicality there too.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that those are two big ways in which the Jaguar is really wanted to be able to impose their will a little bit more.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: They are a tough physical team against the run already on defense.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: We knew that, right?
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think that tight end, they got tougher and more athletic as well.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's certainly another area that I think that they were trying to establish a more physicality and balance.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: with Nate Borkerture and bringing back Quentin Morris.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously Britain's strange as a tough football player out there.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I think those two big ways is Rod Riga's pregnant on.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: And you could say the third, as well, Borkerture, right?
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: How often will pregnant on get on the field of the rookie?
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: I do know we're going to see a lot of Chris Rodriguez though.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's going to be a big difference.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: But they were a tough, run defense already.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think they were a tough physical past defense, even though they weren't always lights out.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: Most of the, most of the back half of the season, they were pretty lights out, but then against the bills, they did really struggle.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: So obviously no Travis Hunter in that regard.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the run game on offense is really where they needed to find that next level of physicality.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they believe they got it.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like Chris Rodriguez, he breaks tackles, he runs hard.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think he brings good vision and pace to the game, too.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: But like his one of his biggest traits is toughness and physicality and breaking tackles.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: And they just didn't feel like they had that very much last year.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you've got that going for you in a big way.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and then you bring in Pragnon, which I would really hope he could win a starting job.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's going to be easy.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: As we're, so Pragnon, he played mostly left guard in college during his first year playing a lot of ball.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: He did play a lot of right guard.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: But after that, it was mostly just left guard.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's where Ezra Cleveland currently lines up.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Cleveland is heading into the final year of his deal with the Jaguars, but he had a really good season last year.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think especially once Cole Van Lannon started playing tackle next to him, those two became a really strong left side of your offensive line, both in past pro and in the run game.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: I was really impressed with kind of how those guys performed specifically over there.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you would point to right guard as where you would kind of like to maybe see
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: a higher level of play than what you got last year.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously Patrick McCary was playing through injuries last year, wasn't at his very best, but it's also fair to point out, you know, if we're going to acknowledge the injury and the toughness that he was playing through that, he's never played that much right card.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like that was the position that he played the least.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: when the Jaguar signed him.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the position he ended up starting at for them.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: And dealt with injuries and just wasn't as consistent as you would like, honestly, for a $13 million signing, that's starting money on the offensive line.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like upper echelon starting money at guard, but it is starting money.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: So you would like to get more out of that position, I think, than you got last year, more physicality than you got last year, right?
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: And pregnant,
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: If he could win that job, he would do that.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he is about as physical as of an offensive lineman, as I saw in the draft this year.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: Straight up, I mean, he's got the strength.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's got that mentality to bury people in the dirt.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's got the massive hands and arm length and all of it's there.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: And there's explosiveness to get off the ball and hit people.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I think if you combine Chris Rodriguez,
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Plus, if you're able to get a manual pregnant on the field, plus, if you have a barcature and strange at times out there as well, I mean, that is another level of physicality.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then you look at all the players that they drafted, they're all bring physicality to the team.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: Um, whether that be the guys on the defensive line, Albert Regis is a tough physical run defender, um, Wesley Williams, the same thing.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: You went and got obviously Jalen Husky early on as well, and he's a physical hitter, big time violent tackler.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's not trying to make friends out there, so that was a point of emphasis, and the jaguars are betting that these guys do bring more physicality for them, and I think also betting that having that added physicality is going to help them
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: win games late in the year in the playoffs like they don't want to see what happened against the sea hawks and rams happen in a critical game down the stretch last year.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think a lack of physicality was an issue for them in the playoff game that they lost.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think there were some different things that happened in that game and it's just you know it's tough to beat Josh Allen in the wildcard round to the playoffs.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's a difficult
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: but they're betting on that physicality being a difference maker in the regular season, but also in the playoffs in a big way.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they're gonna be right on that bet.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: I really do, I like the guys they've brought in to up the ante there.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that they're going to kind of,
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to be able to put on display and add a level of physicality in those areas that we talked about that you didn't see as much last year and I do think that's going to help them win football games.
