- 1:22So without any further ado, guys, let's kick
- 1:24this show off.
- 1:25But before I kick the show off, I
- 1:27want to share what this week is about,
- 1:31because this is a very important week with
- 1:33a lot of great information that I think
- 1:36a lot of you will definitely, how can
- 1:39I say, appreciate what we're doing and why
- 1:42we're doing this.
- 1:43And I think that's an important thing for
- 1:45a lot of people to understand, is that
- 1:47when we think about what's going on and
- 1:50we think about where things are happening, a
- 1:53lot of people don't realize all the potential
- 1:56that they have in their own lives.
- 1:59So the week's master topic is about understanding
- 2:03compassion over perfectionist series five show 24.
- 2:07This is episode number three, and we are
- 2:09talking all about how to believe in yourself
- 2:11when it's not pretty, guys.
- 2:13This is a Monday.
- 2:15And like I said, welcome back to Understanding
- 2:18Compassion Over Perfection, the show where we talk
- 2:22honestly about growth, hearing and healing execution and
- 2:29becoming, how can I say, ladies and gentlemen,
- 2:31the kind of person who keeps going even
- 2:35when the path is not clear.
- 2:36Hey, I'm John C.
- 2:38Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:43podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate
- 2:48lifelong learner, and very grateful to now be
- 2:51a published author.
- 2:52Yes, very grateful for that.
- 2:54This week is all about something deeply personal,
- 2:56incredibly practical, learning how to believe in yourself
- 2:59when it's not pretty.
- 3:01Another important topic we'll talk about.
- 3:03Not when everything is polished, not when the
- 3:05results are obvious or known, not when everybody
- 3:07understands your vision, but in the messy middle,
- 3:12where growth is uncomfortable, progress is quiet, and
- 3:16self-trust has to be built, well, one
- 3:19step or one decision at a time.
- 3:22You know, a lot of people, guys, think
- 3:23confidence comes first and action comes later.
- 3:28In reality, it works the other way.
- 3:30You act, you learn, you stumble, you adjust,
- 3:35and over time, you build confidence.
- 3:37So don't think you're going to get confidence
- 3:38right away, and your confidence will begin to
- 3:40rise, not quickly, but slowly.
- 3:42And belief is not always a feeling.
- 3:45Sometimes belief is a choice you make while
- 3:47your hands are shaking and your mind is
- 3:50full of unpenetrable doubt, right?
- 3:54So today, I'm talking about what it means
- 3:57to keep moving, to keep building, and keep
- 4:00trusting yourself, even when perfection is appearing to
- 4:03be impossible.
- 4:04You see, this episode is for the dreamers,
- 4:08the builders, the leaders, the creators, and the
- 4:13people who are still trying to become something,
- 4:16right?
- 4:16So let's just dive right in, all right?
- 4:18I know you're ready.
- 4:19So growth feels uncomfortable up close.
- 4:23Yeah.
- 4:24And that's why sometimes people back away from
- 4:26it.
- 4:27When you're in the middle of change, it
- 4:29rarely feels graceful.
- 4:30It feels messy, awkward, and uncertain, but that
- 4:33does not mean that it's not working.
- 4:39Number two, guys, progress is not always visible.
- 4:43Some of the most important growth happens quietly
- 4:45before you can measure it.
- 4:46Just because you cannot see it yet does
- 4:49not mean nothing is happening under the scenes,
- 4:52right?
- 4:53Number three, belief is a decision.
- 4:57It's not just a mood.
- 4:58You will not always feel confident, and that
- 5:01is okay.
- 5:02What matters is that you choose to keep
- 5:04believing anyway.
- 5:08Number four, you could support your vision before
- 5:12proof arrives.
- 5:13You do not need full evidence to take
- 5:16the first step.
- 5:16Sometimes backing yourself is the first proof that
- 5:20matters.
- 5:23Number five, doubt is normal.
- 5:28Quitting is optional.
- 5:30Everyone doubts themselves sometimes.
- 5:33I think that's a normal thing.
- 5:35The difference is whether you let the doubt
- 5:37stop you from simply letting it pass through,
- 5:42and fear and movement can coexist.
- 5:46That's number six.
- 5:49Fear and movement can coexist.
- 5:52So you do not need to wait until
- 5:54fear disappears.
- 5:55You can be afraid and still move forward
- 5:58at the same time.
- 5:59I know that seems hard, but trust me,
- 6:01you can do it.
- 6:01Number seven, your first version is allowed to
- 6:05be bad, okay?
- 6:06The first version is allowed to be bad,
- 6:09and nobody starts with perfection.
- 6:13The beginning is supposed to be rough, and
- 6:15that is part of the process.
- 6:17And I think a lot of people, like
- 6:19I don't think people understand that it's not
- 6:21supposed to be easy.
- 6:24It's not supposed to be easy.
- 6:26Confidence, guys.
- 6:28Confidence grows, well, through action.
- 6:32Confidence is not built by overthinking.
- 6:34It is built by doing, learning and repeating
- 6:37over and over and over again.
- 6:39You know, ladies and gentlemen, you do not
- 6:41need permission to begin.
- 6:43Nope, you don't.
- 6:44Too many people wait for approval that never
- 6:48comes.
- 6:49Your life does not require a green light
- 6:51from everyone else around you, even though you
- 6:53think you need that permission.
- 6:56Small steps, guys, beat the random big bursts.
- 7:01Consistency matters more than the occasional intensity.
- 7:05Small actions, repeated over time, create real momentum.
- 7:10And I know that can sound daunting for
- 7:12people, like, oh my gosh, what step do
- 7:14I take?
- 7:15Just take a small, consistent step that's going
- 7:17to help you get towards your goal.
- 7:19Now you're saying, well, John, I don't know
- 7:20what step to take.
- 7:21Is this going to be right?
- 7:21Is this going to be perfect?
- 7:22It may not be right.
- 7:23It may not be perfect.
- 7:25But you know what?
- 7:26You're going to learn on the journey and
- 7:28have some faith in yourself.
- 7:30I think that's a real important thing.
- 7:31Have faith in yourself, because when you have
- 7:33faith in yourself, life changes.
- 7:37Well, life does change.
- 7:39So definitely, definitely enjoy that, OK?
- 7:46You know the phrase, guys.
- 7:48I'll figure it out.
- 7:49It's very powerful.
- 7:51You do not have to know everything right
- 7:56now.
- 7:57A resilient mindset often begins with a simple
- 8:00decision to keep solving, to keep working, keep
- 8:02believing.
- 8:04And our thoughts create our reality, OK?
- 8:08Our thoughts create our reality.
- 8:10Ladies and gentlemen, you know, you can never
- 8:13just enter rooms once you only watched.
- 8:18The spaces you admire from a distance are
- 8:21not off limits forever.
- 8:23Growth means becoming the person who belongs there,
- 8:27too.
- 8:27And I think that's an important thing, is
- 8:30that growth will happen differently in different people's
- 8:33lives.
- 8:34Let's dive into self-trust, shall we?
- 8:36Of course, self-trust is built through tiny
- 8:38promises.
- 8:40Now, if you remember before, we talked about
- 8:42something very interesting.
- 8:44We talked about promises, right?
- 8:48And we talked about commitments.
- 8:51So promises are usually something that you make
- 8:54to someone else.
- 8:56But they may not be things you want.
- 8:59Commitments are things that you are wanting to
- 9:01do.
- 9:02Every time you keep a promise to yourself,
- 9:05you strengthen your inner confidence.
- 9:07Small wins matter more than people ever will
- 9:11realize.
- 9:13I think that's an important one for us
- 9:15to, you know, put in the books.
- 9:17Invisible progress is still progress, guys.
- 9:20Just because no one applauds, says thank you.
- 9:25Or gives you a standing ovation does not
- 9:27mean it has no value.
- 9:29Internal change can be real.
- 9:32As real as external results.
- 9:35You're probably closer than you think right now,
- 9:37but you're also probably second guessing yourself like,
- 9:39oh, I can't do this.
- 9:41I don't have this.
- 9:41I don't have that.
- 9:42And you're sabotaging yourself.
- 9:44You're kicking yourself in the foot.
- 9:47You know, ladies and gentlemen, when you are
- 9:49tired, the finish line can feel so far
- 9:53away.
- 9:54But often you are much nearer than your
- 9:56emotions make it seem.
- 9:59You know, that few extra steps I know
- 10:00doing exercises every day, whether it's push ups
- 10:04or, you know, whether it's let's say that
- 10:07they're like, you know, like half of like
- 10:09crunches or whether it's planks.
- 10:13And that few extra seconds is like, OK,
- 10:15you can do it, just that few extra
- 10:16seconds is all it's going to take.
- 10:18Right.
- 10:19Do not, do not, do not, do not
- 10:23restart.
- 10:25Continuing.
- 10:26A lot of people lose momentum because they
- 10:30think they need to have a perfect reset.
- 10:32So they keep restarting over.
- 10:34They keep saying, all right, let's do it
- 10:35over.
- 10:36Maybe you remember when you were younger, you
- 10:37were working on a sandcastle.
- 10:38It didn't come out right.
- 10:38Oh, I just want to start over again.
- 10:40But you keep starting over.
- 10:41How many times?
- 10:41I mean, eventually you get it right.
- 10:43But, you know, you're never going to have
- 10:46a perfect start.
- 10:47OK.
- 10:48And you can't keep restarting every time.
- 10:50A lot of people lose momentum because they
- 10:53think they need that perfect reset.
- 10:57It's a fallacy.
- 10:58Often what they really need is to keep
- 11:01going, to keep realizing, oh, wait a minute,
- 11:02I can make this better, I can change
- 11:04this.
- 11:04You know, Bob Ross, much of you guys
- 11:07remember Bob Ross, an amazing painter.
- 11:09And I remember taking my very first, they
- 11:12call it paint and sip, although I had
- 11:13these just use.
- 11:14And I remember going to quite a few
- 11:16of them.
- 11:16But my first one was I had the
- 11:18oil, you know, the canvas and the oil
- 11:20paints.
- 11:21And I made a mess.
- 11:22OK.
- 11:23But then the instructor comes over and says,
- 11:25oh, no, no, no.
- 11:25We can just do this and we can
- 11:27do this and see how lovely that is.
- 11:28I'm like, oh, OK.
- 11:30So the point is, you can make anything
- 11:31lovely.
- 11:32You can make anything beautiful.
- 11:33You just have to look at what you
- 11:34have and you have to just move from
- 11:37there.
- 11:37Right.
- 11:38You don't throw away the canvas.
- 11:40You don't get frustrated because you didn't paint
- 11:43in the lines.
- 11:44Right.
- 11:45Take a lesson, not the self-hate.
- 11:49See, failure can teach you something useful.
- 11:52It should not become a weapon you use
- 11:54against yourself, because if it does, it's going
- 11:57to disempower yourself.
- 11:58It's going to make you frustrated.
- 12:00It's going to make you depressed.
- 12:02It's going to kill any ounce of confidence
- 12:04that you had.
- 12:07Ladies and gentlemen, this is important.
- 12:09Other people may not understand your vision yet,
- 12:11and that is perfectly OK.
- 12:13This is not a sign that you are
- 12:15wrong.
- 12:16It just means your vision is still unfolding.
- 12:18And many times people don't want to support
- 12:21your vision because, well, it's not clear enough
- 12:23for them.
- 12:24Right.
- 12:24It's not clear enough for them.
- 12:26You know, ladies and gentlemen, also wanting more
- 12:28is not delusional.
- 12:30I think that's an amazing quality to want
- 12:32more.
- 12:33Ambition is not the same as fantasy.
- 12:35Sometimes wanting more is simply a sign that
- 12:37you are ready to grow.
- 12:39And most people don't understand that when you're
- 12:41getting these ideas to have these big dreams,
- 12:44it's not to make you depressed.
- 12:46It's not to say, hey, I don't have
- 12:47it today.
- 12:48It's to motivate you forward.
- 12:50It's to give you the fuel to push
- 12:52your butt forward.
- 12:55Lower self-abuse.
- 12:58Not standards.
- 12:59You do not need to settle for less.
- 13:02You just need to stop speaking to yourself
- 13:04so harshly.
- 13:05You need to be kind.
- 13:08I have found that when you are kind
- 13:10to yourself, guess what happens?
- 13:12You become kind to others.
- 13:15That's pretty cool, right?
- 13:17It's a boomerang effect, right?
- 13:20Remember, ladies, gentlemen, remember what you have already
- 13:24survived right now.
- 13:25You're here.
- 13:26You're living right.
- 13:27And you've gone through challenges.
- 13:28You've gone through trials and tribulations.
- 13:30And you're here, right?
- 13:32Your history right now contains evidence of the
- 13:35strength of the character you are.
- 13:38If you made it through this far.
- 13:41That says something about what you can do
- 13:44now.
- 13:45You might say, well, John, that was different.
- 13:47No, it isn't.
- 13:48The fact that you are now here, the
- 13:51fact that you are standing or sitting before
- 13:53me, the fact that you're able to even
- 13:55celebrate that moment tells me you've already got
- 14:00some resilience going for you.
- 14:02You know, ladies, gentlemen, another important one is
- 14:04your past self would be really proud of
- 14:06you right now.
- 14:07If you could talk to your past self,
- 14:09it would probably give you a hug, probably
- 14:10a big pat on the back.
- 14:12Think about the version of you that hope
- 14:16for better days.
- 14:17You are further along than that version may
- 14:20have imagined.
- 14:22And I think that's something we all have
- 14:26a hard time doing.
- 14:26You know, we all like chastise ourselves.
- 14:29We all say, you know, we should've been
- 14:30here.
- 14:30We should be there.
- 14:31And I think that's nice, but it's also
- 14:34hurting our current progress.
- 14:37Right.
- 14:38If I look at where I am now,
- 14:39I look at where I was 10 or
- 14:4115 years ago, it's like, wow, I've made
- 14:42some big strides.
- 14:43Am I exactly where I want to be
- 14:45today?
- 14:45No.
- 14:46Do I want to keep getting further?
- 14:47Yes.
- 14:48But that tells me that I'm on the
- 14:51right path.
- 14:53Ladies and gentlemen, perfectionism just delays action.
- 14:58I've known lots of people that strive to
- 15:01protect perfectionism.
- 15:02I don't fault them, but I will tell
- 15:04you that perfectionism.
- 15:08Often causes procrastination.
- 15:11Causes stagnation, it causes people to never finish,
- 15:13causes people to never start because they're never
- 15:15happy with what they've done.
- 15:17Waiting for perfect timing.
- 15:21Perfect words, perfect confidence, perfect people can keep
- 15:25you stuck.
- 15:27You see, ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to
- 15:29give you a secret.
- 15:30Progress starts when perfection stops being the goal.
- 15:35Well, John, but I want to make it
- 15:37better.
- 15:37You can make it better.
- 15:39You don't have to make it perfect on
- 15:41day one.
- 15:43Right.
- 15:44I said before, done is better than perfect.
- 15:46And I mean that you can always make
- 15:48something better.
- 15:49Aim for this, ladies and gentlemen, aim for
- 15:511% better next time.
- 15:54You do not need an automatic transformation overnight,
- 15:57but if you could just get 1%
- 15:59better, you'll probably get better than 1%.
- 16:01But 1% better is is good, right?
- 16:04Small improvements compound and create real change.
- 16:08See, most people think that if they only
- 16:12make a 1% change.
- 16:14And it's like nothing.
- 16:16But if you stayed stagnant, you'd never you
- 16:18would never change.
- 16:19So if you made a 1% change
- 16:22and you kept doing this every day.
- 16:24And that was your slow rate, you'd be
- 16:27100% better.
- 16:30In basically.
- 16:3399 more days after your first.
- 16:36So a continual progression.
- 16:40You need consistency and you need structure.
- 16:44You can't look at the fact, well, you
- 16:46know, I'm not where I want to be
- 16:47today.
- 16:48I get it.
- 16:49But don't let that get in the way
- 16:51of where you want to go.
- 16:52And I think that's the one thing I
- 16:54want to tell you is that you need
- 16:55to be your own cheerleader.
- 16:58I know that sounds crazy, but you do
- 17:00you need to be your own cheerleader.
- 17:01And ladies and gentlemen, you can rewrite your
- 17:03story mid chapter.
- 17:04You don't have to finish the book, but
- 17:06you can rewrite it any time, whether you're
- 17:08an author like myself or not.
- 17:09You still are the author of your own
- 17:12life, even if it doesn't get into a
- 17:13book.
- 17:14No matter what your history looks like, your
- 17:17future is still being written as we speak
- 17:21and as we live.
- 17:22You, ladies and gentlemen, are allowed to pivot,
- 17:24to grow and to change the direction you're
- 17:28currently on.
- 17:29But I know a lot of people say
- 17:30to me, John, I can't do it.
- 17:32And my question to them is why?
- 17:36Because maybe they're stubborn, because maybe they're trying
- 17:39to be a perfectionist, because maybe they're worried
- 17:41about what the Joneses said and the Johnson
- 17:44said.
- 17:46Because they're not having enough belief in themselves.
- 17:50Ladies and gentlemen, you are allowed to surprise
- 17:53yourself.
- 17:54Sometimes the people who limit you most are
- 17:57the old versions of you.
- 17:58You know that?
- 18:01The old version of you.
- 18:02I want you to do something for me,
- 18:04if you would, please break that pattern, break
- 18:09that pattern, break that pattern, break that pattern.
- 18:13Quick story, I was doing something a while
- 18:18back.
- 18:19And I was with a mentor and I
- 18:21kept talking about something and it was a
- 18:23negative thing.
- 18:24And I was talking to him and we
- 18:26were just there and I was going on
- 18:28and on.
- 18:28And he's like, tell me more.
- 18:29And I did.
- 18:29And all of a sudden he took his
- 18:31like, we had war in his class.
- 18:33He just threw it in my face like,
- 18:33oh, what'd you do that for?
- 18:36No reason.
- 18:38I said, um, so where were we?
- 18:41Well, I was telling you about, you know,
- 18:43what happened and how I never.
- 18:44Oh, so I'm sorry.
- 18:49OK, so I was.
- 18:50Oh, so go ahead.
- 18:51I was going on.
- 18:52I was talking about my situation, your situation.
- 18:54Great.
- 18:55And I was talking about the fact how
- 18:56I never.
- 18:56I was like, please, can you please stop
- 19:00it, stop what?
- 19:03I don't know.
- 19:04He said, continue.
- 19:05So I'm just saying that I'm never going
- 19:07to.
- 19:09OK, I say, like, dude, like enough.
- 19:12Is it enough of what?
- 19:17What are you doing?
- 19:19I'm not doing anything.
- 19:20Hey, you keep throwing water in my face.
- 19:23You keep going down the wrong path.
- 19:26Why are you throwing water in my face?
- 19:27To break your pattern.
- 19:29And I got tired of it after a
- 19:31while.
- 19:32I'm like, OK, let's not go there anymore.
- 19:34Break that pattern, ladies, gentlemen, break it today,
- 19:37break it tomorrow and see what unfolds, what
- 19:42now becomes possible.
- 19:43You see, the impossible becomes possible.
- 19:49Ladies and gentlemen, belief feels awkward.
- 19:51I know before it feels natural.
- 19:55But.
- 19:57That's how it works.
- 19:58I remember the first time I had to
- 20:00tie a tie.
- 20:01It was very awkward tying a tie or
- 20:03maybe, you know, trying to tie your shoelaces.
- 20:05It didn't feel comfortable, did it?
- 20:07It felt uncomfortable.
- 20:08So you got to practice getting kind of
- 20:09being uncomfortable.
- 20:10So belief feels awkward before it feels natural.
- 20:14Success doesn't feel comfortable in the beginning.
- 20:16Confidence can feel strange at first, especially if
- 20:20you are not used to claiming your space.
- 20:25But I tell you this, ladies and gentlemen,
- 20:26I tell you to keep going anyway, anyway.
- 20:32Anyway, momentum comes from repetition, OK?
- 20:37What you repeat becomes your rhythm.
- 20:40What the guy do, he kept throwing water
- 20:41in my face.
- 20:42So I was getting tired of this water
- 20:45getting thrown in my face every like minute.
- 20:49So I stopped doing that.
- 20:52Show up often, guys, but show up enough.
- 20:55And your life will start to move in
- 21:01the direction for success.
- 21:04Compassion keeps you in the game, guys.
- 21:06Harshness may push for a moment and make
- 21:09you feel like a hero, but it's not
- 21:11long term.
- 21:12See, compassion helps you endure and kindness toward
- 21:15yourself.
- 21:16It's not weakness, guys.
- 21:17It is the fuel.
- 21:19The fuel that will propel you forward.
- 21:22Keep going, even when it's not pretty.
- 21:24That's what today's episode is about.
- 21:26It's not always going to be pretty.
- 21:28It's not always going to be comfortable.
- 21:29See, ladies and gentlemen, that is where real
- 21:31character is built.
- 21:33It's not in those polished moments, but in
- 21:35the decision to continue when it is hard,
- 21:39when it's hard.
- 21:42Hard means it's not comfortable.
- 21:44Hard means it's not something you maybe enjoy
- 21:47at the moment, but it's something you do.
- 21:50And then life changes for you, but it
- 21:55doesn't change overnight.
- 21:57You see, if you have all these beliefs
- 21:59and you change it, right?
- 22:01Now you're in the right mindset, but now
- 22:03you've got to implement that mindset over some
- 22:06time.
- 22:07It could take a few weeks, could take
- 22:0830 days, 60 days, 90 days or even
- 22:09more, because now you're operating from that different
- 22:13plane.
- 22:14Before, you were just thinking about it.
- 22:16Now you're actually making decisions based on it.
- 22:18I think that's a real whirlwind.
- 22:21I'll call it a complete 180.
- 22:23I won't say a 360 because a 360
- 22:25would bring you back exactly where you are.
- 22:26So it'd be a complete 180 to turn
- 22:28you around from where you are right now.
- 22:31And that's important.
- 22:32And I think these are important things to
- 22:34know.
- 22:35As I get ready to close the show
- 22:37for today, we've talked about a lot of
- 22:41things.
- 22:43We've talked about belief, right?
- 22:47We talked about how this belief in your
- 22:49life can shape things and believing yourself when
- 22:54it's not pretty, when it's not easy, even
- 22:57when no one's around, maybe when it's lonely.
- 23:01You still got to do it.
- 23:04You, ladies and gentlemen, do not need to
- 23:06be perfect to be powerful.
- 23:08Stop thinking that.
- 23:10You do, however, need to start.
- 23:14You do not need to have it all
- 23:16figured out to take the next step.
- 23:20You don't have to know where the next
- 23:21puzzle piece is going to go, but you
- 23:23start, you work at what you can.
- 23:25And ladies and gentlemen, you do not need
- 23:28to wait until your life looks prettier from
- 23:31the outside before you start believing in the
- 23:34person you are becoming.
- 23:37The person you are becoming starts on the
- 23:40inside.
- 23:41It's very beautiful.
- 23:42That person on the inside will eventually come
- 23:45out on the outside.
- 23:48But we start from within, from what we
- 23:51start from within.
- 23:52Naturally, we'll come to the outside.
- 23:56Ladies and gentlemen, this whole week is about
- 23:59release.
- 24:00It's about movement.
- 24:02It's about truth.
- 24:03It's about perspective.
- 24:04It's about proof.
- 24:07Some people call proof of concept.
- 24:10It's about having a hope.
- 24:14And I know hope is something a lot
- 24:16of people are like.
- 24:18Where do I find hope?
- 24:20What do I get?
- 24:20Where do I get the energy for hope?
- 24:22I think the best way to get hope
- 24:26is to close your eyes.
- 24:29And to imagine the life you've always wanted.
- 24:33But to believe yourself that you can do
- 24:35it and the renewal of you, you can
- 24:38rewrite your chapter, ladies and gentlemen, any time
- 24:41you want.
- 24:44You know, I was watching a good movie
- 24:45the other day.
- 24:47You probably know the movie Tommy.
- 24:48And his father had passed away.
- 24:51And it was all about this couple, basically.
- 24:56She had said she was marrying Tommy's husband.
- 25:01Tommy's father, excuse me.
- 25:03And this guy, Paul, who was going to
- 25:07be his brother, supposedly, was actually married to
- 25:11this lady already.
- 25:12So she was kind of lying so she
- 25:15could get his money.
- 25:15And the interesting thing about this, when we
- 25:20think about, you know, reading people and stuff,
- 25:24and it was something very interesting.
- 25:26The guy that was mentoring him, the person
- 25:30that his father put in place to kind
- 25:31of hopefully keep track and hopefully get him
- 25:34on the right path.
- 25:37And he was happy with getting a D
- 25:39or D plus in college, but.
- 25:42His mentor was saying his kind of the
- 25:44person he was working with there at the
- 25:46office, which was like one of the accounting
- 25:48people.
- 25:49He said that, you know.
- 25:52It's not just about the school stuff.
- 25:55School stuff's important.
- 25:57But he says, right now, what you need
- 25:59to be able to sell is not going
- 26:01to come from the classroom.
- 26:03It's going to come from street smarts.
- 26:05And how did he get him to do
- 26:06that?
- 26:08Well, he wound up hitting him with a
- 26:13pole or something and then hit him in
- 26:14the face.
- 26:15And then they go to a restaurant and
- 26:17it sounds by face.
- 26:18Everything looks fine.
- 26:19And then the waitress comes over and.
- 26:23What happened to your face?
- 26:24He's like, I knew it.
- 26:27And she's like, you know, the fryer's closed.
- 26:29And then he starts very casually just telling
- 26:31her about the situation and what happened, and
- 26:33she decided to go back and turn the
- 26:36fryer's back on, even though they already were
- 26:38closed and off.
- 26:40How you read people can make a difference
- 26:42to how you're going to move forward in
- 26:44life.
- 26:44So reading the room is a big key,
- 26:47a big skill.
- 26:48And you choose the version of you that
- 26:50rises.
- 26:51That's what you have to do.
- 26:52And you have to be a little playful
- 26:53in life.
- 26:55That's important, guys, if you're not playful.
- 26:57People are going to take you like everything's
- 27:00so serious.
- 27:01Got to lighten up just a little bit.
- 27:04All right.
- 27:05When you treat life a little bit as
- 27:07a game.
- 27:09You'll find that people.
- 27:12Are not so, let's say, apprehensive around you.
- 27:17They let their guard down.
- 27:20Because you're being a lot more light.
