Transcript
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: How far away is your best work?
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Ask this question to most riders, and they'll say their best work is off in the distance, perhaps even years or decades off into the distance.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: We always perceive that the work we're doing now is not very good, and that our best work is hiding somewhere out there over the horizon.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: But what if your best work was much closer than you realize?
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: We've talked before on the podcast about the close connection between walking and creativity.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: There is a lot of documented evidence to show the connection between physical activity and your brain's creative activity.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: One of the best ways to be more creative is just to take a simple walk.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Some of history's greatest thinkers have taken advantage of this simple pathway to greater creativity, including the philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, who said, I walked myself into my best thoughts.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: When you take a walk, the blood is flowing to your brain and your mind is filled with sights and sounds other than a blank page on a computer screen.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Walking makes you feel more alive and engaged, which of course is going to enhance your creative spark.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: So if you're feeling stuck with your writing, just get up and take a simple walk.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Your best work might be just a step away.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
