- 0:00SPEAKER_00: You're listening to the I Align podcast with Flint Mitchell, where I provide stories, resources, and tools for ambitious builders who are ready to gain control over procrastination, overthinking, and distraction.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Welcome.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Everything in life has a three to four week lead time minimum.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: I think the moment that I accepted this in my own life of like, no matter what I am doing, it will take at least three to four weeks for me to see any results from this thing.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: The faster I started to make progress for the simple reason that the moment that you make that decision that like I actually can't receive results from this for at least three to four weeks, minimum, it might be multiple months.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Two things happen.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: One is you have to start filtering much more efficiently for the things that you're actually taking action on, because you can't be pursuing many, many things for many, many weeks all at the same time.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: So that's number one is it starts to affect the way that you filter opportunities.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Then two is you stop validating results and you only validate effort.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: So if I recognize, hey, I'm doing this new thing in my business and I won't see results for it for the next, I don't know, four to six weeks, it means I can't even look at the results until four to six weeks from now.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: So I have to find other ways of validating the effort that I'm putting into it for those four to six weeks before I've collected enough data to look back and be like, all right, what actually happened from this effort?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Is it going in the right direction?
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: It doesn't mean that the thing I'm doing can't show signs of working.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: It's just that I can't expect the outcome of the effort that I'm putting into literally anything, whether it's my body, my work, my relationships, without a month or multiple months of effort into that thing.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And then if you zoom out further, what that does to your year is you look at your year, and instead of framing things, all right, how many things am I doing right now?
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh shit, if everything takes three to four weeks minimum to see results, then the year is 12 months long.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: That means that I can do obviously some things can overlap, but that's like in one domain, maybe 12 things, maybe six things have to get done this year that are large because I won't see the result of them for that amount of time.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And once again, obviously things can overlap, but generally speaking, if you're choosing just a few things because you have priorities and you have a good filter, and you're spending at least four to six weeks, three to four weeks waiting for the result in order to genuinely know what the result is, then the reality is you don't have that many spaces to fill with high important tasks.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: You have to choose really specifically because the minimum lead time in order to get the results you want, or even start to see the minimum result that you want, is like three to four weeks, five to six weeks, a couple months.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I hope you enjoyed that episode.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Now, if you've been told your entire life that you're smart and you have potential, but you continue to see yourself not do what you said you would do again and again, and it's made you stop trusting in yourself, or that you will ever achieve that potential, I want to help you.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Together, you and I will implement a core value-based system that will help you become decisive and focused.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: I want you to feel the relief from the weight on your shoulders because of the decreased noise in your head.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Strength each morning because you trust yourself to turn lost avoidant hours of your life into forward progress.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Peace, when you no longer have to hide how you actually spend your time.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: And finally, pride in yourself when you close your eyes every night before you go to sleep.
