- 0:00Chapter 43 from the book of Jeremiah.
- 0:04Dear Lord, please be with us as we read through this scripture
- 0:08and bring to mind things that you want us to learn from it.
- 0:12We ask this in Jesus name. So when Jeremiah had finished
- 0:17telling the people all the words of the Lord their God,
- 0:20everything the Lord had sent him to tell them, Azaria son of
- 0:27Hoshaya and Johannan son of Korea, and all the arrogant men
- 0:34said to Jeremiah, You are lying. The Lord our God has not sent
- 0:40you to say you must not go to Egypt to settle there, but
- 0:44Baruch son of Neriah is inciting you against us to hand us over
- 0:50to the Babylonians so they may kill us or carry us into exile
- 0:55to Babylon. So right here you're saying that
- 0:58Jeremiah is trying so hard to tell them the word of God, but
- 1:04they are in confusion now, the enemy of God.
- 1:09So is confusion. If things are confusing, there's
- 1:14more than likely some of the enemy of God's involvement in
- 1:18that because God brings about peace, No Fear.
- 1:22But you can see these people here are fearful.
- 1:25If these people paid attention to their own history, they would
- 1:29know Egypt is not a place for them to go to.
- 1:33Just the fact that God pulled them out, saved them from
- 1:38slavery in Egypt when there was the Exodus.
- 1:42And so now later on, these people are thinking they can go
- 1:46to Egypt for shelter. And this is going back to I'm,
- 1:51I'm sure God is like, well, no, I'm, I'm kind of just putting it
- 1:55in human terms. But just think about this, you
- 1:58know, if you, if you know what's in store for someone and you're
- 2:02telling them, don't do it, don't do it.
- 2:04But they keep saying, Oh, no, we got to do it.
- 2:06We got to do it. And you're just like hitting
- 2:07you, you know, like putting your hand on your head or your face,
- 2:11like, Oh, my goodness, how are these people never going to, you
- 2:16know, are these people never going to understand?
- 2:19Are they never going to listen to me?
- 2:21I'm warning them, but they're not listening.
- 2:24And that's what you could imagine God would be like, just,
- 2:28Oh my goodness, what do I have to do to reach these people?
- 2:31You know, I pulled them out of slavery, and now they're
- 2:33thinking about going right back into slavery, and it's only
- 2:35going to kill them. And I'm trying to warn them, but
- 2:37they're not listening. And that's what Jeremiah is
- 2:41frustrated too, because nobody listens to him and God keeps
- 2:45telling him, share this with them, share this and nobody's
- 2:48listening. So going back to Scripture, so
- 2:51Johannon son of Korea, and all the army officers and all the
- 2:55people disobeyed the Lord's command to stay in the land of
- 3:01Judah. Instead, Johannan's son of Korea
- 3:05and all the army officers LED away the remnant of Judah who
- 3:09had come back to live in the land of Judah from all the
- 3:12nations where they had been scattered.
- 3:14They also LED away all those whom Nebu, Nebu's Araiden,
- 3:21commander of the Imperial Guard, had left with Gadilla son of
- 3:25Ahikum the son of Chapin, the men, the women, the children,
- 3:30and the King's daughters. And they took Jeremiah the
- 3:33prophet, and Baruch son of Neriah along with them.
- 3:39So they entered Egypt in disobedience to the Lord, and
- 3:43went as far as Tapanas. In Tapanas the word of the Lord
- 3:48came to Jeremiah. While the Jews are watching,
- 3:52take some large stones with you and bury them in clay in the
- 3:57brick pavement at the entrance to Pharaoh's palace in Tapanis.
- 4:03Then say to them, This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of
- 4:08Israel says. I will send for my servant
- 4:13Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and I will set his throne over
- 4:19these stones I have buried here. He will spread his royal canopy
- 4:24above them. He will come and attack Egypt,
- 4:28bringing death to those destined for death, captivity to those
- 4:34destined for captivity, and the sword to those destined for the
- 4:39sword. He will set fire to the temple
- 4:43of the gods of Egypt. He will burn their temples and
- 4:47take their gods captive. As a shepherd picks his garment
- 4:53clean of lice, so he will pick Egypt clean and depart there in
- 4:59the temple of the Sun in Egypt. He will demolish the sacred
- 5:04pillars and will burn down the temples of the gods of Egypt.
- 5:10So this is a pretty strong statement.
- 5:13And and I I just wonder what the people thought.
- 5:17You know, Jeremiah had warned them.
- 5:19They went ahead and disobeyed. They even made a vow to God.
- 5:22Whatever, you know, you tell us, we will listen to.
- 5:25But they didn't do it because they really had no intention of
- 5:28it. And we can see that that's the
- 5:30way people are today. And we could be like that too.
- 5:33Like we could say, oh, yeah, I'm going to do this.
- 5:36But then in our heart, in our deep inner self, we are like, I
- 5:41don't really want to do it. I'm just going to say it and I
- 5:45don't really want to do that though, but God really wants us
- 5:50to let him guide us. God wants us to be obedience.
- 5:55Obedience actually shows love to God.
- 5:58And because Jesus said, you know, if you love me, obey my
- 6:01commands. And, and that's the way we show
- 6:04love to God. It's not how we get into God's
- 6:06Kingdom, but it's how we show love to God.
- 6:10And that's what God's seeking. He's, you know, he loves all of
- 6:14us, all human beings, because he created all, all of us out of
- 6:19his love. Like he wanted to enjoy a
- 6:21relationship with us. And he delights in his creation,
- 6:26and so he delights in all of us. But you don't so much delight in
- 6:32something that kind of hates you, something that doesn't want
- 6:36anything to do with you. It doesn't really, it's not a
- 6:41great feeling for us. I mean, we can relate to that
- 6:44part. Think about how God feels.
- 6:46He created us. And then when we don't really
- 6:50delight in him like he delights in us, that has to hurt, you
- 6:55know, that has to, you know, be painful.
- 6:58I mean, there are many times in the Bible where it says like God
- 7:01was grieved or, you know, he was he, He regretted that, you know,
- 7:08things turned out the way that they did and he saw that there.
- 7:13You know, I guess, like the one thing that is surprising that we
- 7:17don't think of is that the heart is deceitful and it's inclined
- 7:22to sin all the time. And that's, that's just, you
- 7:26know, something that we can't overcome by ourselves, but we
- 7:32can overcome it by the Holy Spirit, by the Spirit of God.
- 7:38And so that's why we need to rely on God.
- 7:41That's why we need to ask God to come into our life because God
- 7:47gave us free will. So if we don't ask him into our
- 7:50life, it's like he doesn't have permission, even though he could
- 7:54do it if he wanted. He doesn't.
- 7:56He doesn't force himself on any of us.
- 7:58So we have to invite him in. He's there wanting to be a part
- 8:03of our life, but we have to make that decision.
- 8:06And that's why our final destination is truly up to us.
- 8:12It's not God saying, well, I don't think I really like a
- 8:15whole lot of the way you lived your life and I like your life
- 8:18better. So you're going to be in my
- 8:20Kingdom. You're not.
- 8:21That's not the way God does it. It says in Scripture that that
- 8:24is not it. He will see how much we love him
- 8:28based on how we act, how we live out our lives.
- 8:31But that's that's not it at all. It's the only way that we make
- 8:36it into that we have the opportunity to be in God's
- 8:40Kingdom is because of Jesus, because Jesus sacrificed his own
- 8:44life for all of mankind, because Jesus is the son of God.
- 8:50And that's as perfect as you can get.
- 8:52That's perfection. The only like Jesus said, the
- 8:57why do you call me good? The only one good is God because
- 8:59they were denying the deity of Jesus, but he was saying, you
- 9:03know, there's only one one that's good and that's God.
- 9:06And so he was kind of, he was very interesting with how he
- 9:14expressed himself to people. And I think people just really
- 9:17didn't understand a lot of what he said.
- 9:20But, you know, he was in that statement.
- 9:23He's basically saying, you know, yeah, I am.
- 9:26I am God. But you don't really know that.
- 9:28You deny that. You don't believe that.
- 9:30And the, you know, humans are not by nature are not good.
- 9:34I mean, we ever since the the fall of mankind, that happened
- 9:38in the Garden of Eden when our ancestors chose to question God
- 9:47and to follow a serpent of some kind that, you know, ever since
- 9:56then we've been corrupted by that from that.
- 10:02And just like Ephesians 6, chapter 6, verse 12, it says for
- 10:10our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the
- 10:14rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this Dark
- 10:19World, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly
- 10:25realms. Now, have any of you thought of
- 10:29that? Like there's actually evil in
- 10:32the heavenly realms that doesn't make sense to many people.
- 10:37If you haven't read the Bible because you think, oh, only good
- 10:41is in heaven. Well, not right now because
- 10:45there are fallen ones. There are those who rebelled
- 10:49against God that are in the heavenly realms and they won't
- 10:55be there forever. But right now they are, because
- 10:59God even gives the other beings that he created free will as
- 11:03well. But some of them want to be God,
- 11:07want to be worshipped. They aren't set.
- 11:09They aren't satisfied with the way God made them, and they want
- 11:12to be something more than what they are.
- 11:14They have pride. They are not willing to humble
- 11:19themselves and put God as The Who He is, the Creator, the
- 11:26giver of life, and He gives all things that are good come from
- 11:31God. Anyway, I departed a little bit
- 11:35there like I always do, but we'll go back and I'll go
- 11:40through the questions and answers on this.
- 11:42So why would they seek advice from someone they believe to be
- 11:46a liar? This is talking about Jeremiah.
- 11:48They didn't anticipate that Jeremiah actually would give
- 11:50them advice. What they really wanted was some
- 11:53religious reassurance or endorsement of their own plan.
- 11:57When they got advice instead, their human nature rejected it.
- 12:02They called him a liar and headed to Egypt.
- 12:05Now that could be like us today. Think about this.
- 12:09A lot of people will search different churches because they
- 12:13want to find a church that tells them what they want to hear.
- 12:17They want a church that says exactly the way they want to
- 12:22believe. And if you look long enough, you
- 12:24will find a church, you will find a church that supports what
- 12:29you believe because there are a lot of corrupted churches out
- 12:33there. So the important thing is that
- 12:35we actually know what's in the Bible and we look at what is
- 12:41being taught at a church and does it reflect or does it
- 12:45contradict what's in the Bible? The Bible is the word of God and
- 12:49that's one of the things that we need to remember is that it says
- 12:56all Second Timothy chapter 3, verse 16.
- 13:00All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching,
- 13:05rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so
- 13:10that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every
- 13:13good work. So we have to test everything
- 13:18that we hear that to make sure that it's in the Bible.
- 13:21But most importantly, we need to be in the Bible.
- 13:25We need to read it. We need to know what's in it so
- 13:28that people can't deceive us. Because it does say in the end
- 13:32times, there's going to be a great deception on people.
- 13:34And I wonder, you know, if, if people are so confused about
- 13:42what truth is and because they've not been reading the
- 13:47Bible and so much of so many of us, like I didn't until 2019,
- 13:53but then I, my eyes were open to a lot of things and a lot of
- 13:56things that I believe that were incorrect and they were
- 14:00corrected by the scripture. I mean, exactly what second
- 14:05Timothy says, you know, it's God breathes is useful for dot dot
- 14:11dot correcting. And that's what it did for me.
- 14:14The some beliefs that I had were not correct.
- 14:17And so this made it clear and more the more we're in it, the
- 14:23more we study it, the more we learn from it.
- 14:26And I just can't say how much, how important it is.
- 14:31And you know, our what we believe is foundational and
- 14:38impactful in our placement in eternity.
- 14:42And as in Romans chapter 10, verse 17 says, consequently,
- 14:47faith comes from hearing the message and the message is heard
- 14:52through the word about Christ. So as we read Scripture, our
- 14:57faith increases because we start seeing a lot of things we didn't
- 15:01see before. And it's not we're many of us
- 15:06make the mistake at the beginning is wanting to find a
- 15:08church that agrees with our thoughts on the way things
- 15:12should be, but we're deceiving ourselves if we do that.
- 15:16We have to start with Scripture and then find a church that
- 15:21supports what it says in Scripture.
- 15:24That's that's the way if we if we want truth, if we want to be
- 15:28deceived, you can go do anything.
- 15:30I mean, you we all have free choice in choosing.
- 15:33Thank God what we want to do and but not all things that we
- 15:39choose are good for us. So why would or why were they
- 15:44suspicious of Baruch? Some think the Jews suspected
- 15:47that Baruch, Jeremiah's secretary, was an agent of
- 15:50Babylon. If so, they probably thought he
- 15:53was urging Jeremiah to say that it was God's will for them to
- 15:56stay and submit to Nebuchadnezzar.
- 15:58Apparently Baruch's personality was strong enough that he was
- 16:01blamed for being a bad influence on Jeremiah.
- 16:05So that's, again, you know, what the enemy can do when we're
- 16:08struggling against the spiritual realm, that spiritual realm can
- 16:14influence our thoughts and make us suspicious of good people.
- 16:19And it can make us, that's why we need to be so rooted, so
- 16:22grounded in the Word of God so that we know we can distinguish
- 16:27between them. Because I would imagine that if
- 16:31they were grounded in Scripture, they could see that Jeremiah was
- 16:37doing good, that Jeremiah was being led by God.
- 16:40They could see by some of the things that happened to that
- 16:44happened with him and that things that he told that
- 16:47actually happened. So they should have known a
- 16:51little bit better if they were more discerning.
- 16:53And that's what Scripture also does.
- 16:55It gives us discernment. The Holy Spirit will give us
- 16:58discernment and we will hopefully be able to tell better
- 17:05from good and evil. So did Jeremiah and Baruch go
- 17:11willingly to Egypt? Some think they were forced to
- 17:14go against their will. Others think they went
- 17:16willingly, believing that the Jews needed guidance.
- 17:19Jeremiah had dedicated his life to serving God.
- 17:22He remained faithful to his commitment even though the
- 17:26people were rebellious. How did Jeremiah bury stones in
- 17:30the brick pavement? Details are sketchy, but he may
- 17:32have used farming tools to chisel the clay mortar from
- 17:36between the hardened bricks. In an arid climate, clay bricks
- 17:40would have been nearly like concrete and quite suitable as
- 17:43construction material for the main streets.
- 17:46Why did God called Nebuchadnezzar my servant?
- 17:49God chose Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians as his servants to
- 17:54execute this punishment on Judah.
- 17:57They were neither more righteous nor more deserving than the
- 18:02other nations, but they fit God's purposes.
- 18:05God's choices may sometimes be surprising and perplexing, but
- 18:10we can say for sure they are always right.
- 18:12So God, I think from what I've read, is that God uses
- 18:15somebody's own desires to accomplish his purpose.
- 18:20So Nebuchadnezzar wanted to conquer, and so God can use
- 18:24that, his desire within him. But he's like, OK, you're going
- 18:28to do it for me though, and you're going to pronounce
- 18:31judgement on my people because they don't listen to me.
- 18:34They're far from me. And so God uses somebody
- 18:38unexpected. He always seems to use
- 18:40unexpected people for things throughout history.
- 18:44That's what he's done. So what were the sacred pillars
- 18:47in the Temple of the Sun? They were a obelisk or obelisk
- 18:54actually they're. Gosh I didn't even realize this.
- 18:57They were obelisk. Freestanding post about 6 feet
- 19:01square at the base and tapering upward 60 feet or more to a
- 19:06pyramid like top. Some may have been overlaid with
- 19:11gold. Obelisk were erected to honor
- 19:14and worship the Egyptian sun God RA array.
- 19:18They were located in Heliopolis, Greek for the city of the sun.
- 19:27That's another interesting thing because these obliques, I I know
- 19:32I'm pronouncing this wrong and it's not coming to mind with how
- 19:34to pronounce this, but they, they're all over the place.
- 19:38The Washington Monument is 1. Isn't that concerning?
- 19:43There are more. If you start paying attention,
- 19:46you will start seeing them everywhere.
- 19:48And if so, we go back in history and we find out these things and
- 19:54these are like ungodly things and they are scattered in
- 19:59various places. And do you think God's really
- 20:02happy with that? It's very interesting when you
- 20:06get into history and you start seeing things from ancient times
- 20:12that are present today and we all say, oh, we don't worship
- 20:15anything that's like the ancient gods or these people had
- 20:18multiple gods and they worshipped all these things.
- 20:20Well, it's not like we necessarily like pray do these
- 20:24things or whatever, but these things like it's against the 10
- 20:29commandments, you know, just like it says no graven images of
- 20:37anything in heaven or under the earth or in the sky or whatever.
- 20:43So it's basically like graven images are basically statues.
- 20:49And, and that, you know, when you create a statue of somebody,
- 20:53you're, you're honoring them. But can that be taken a little
- 20:57bit too far where they become like a God, You know, and
- 21:01oftentimes they did become like a God.
- 21:04And I just think whoever decided to make statues to begin with
- 21:09it, they probably didn't know the Bible.
- 21:13Or if they did, they were in direct rebellion to the Bible.
- 21:15Because if I was back in that time and, and had the experience
- 21:20with God and saw that he said that I wouldn't want to be the
- 21:25first one. Knowing how God will punish
- 21:28those who disobey him, who are disobedient and rebellious to
- 21:32him, who would want to come against God?
- 21:35And yet we see these things all over the world.
- 21:40And so anyway, the next chapter 44 is going to be really
- 21:45interesting. And I'm going to cut this one
- 21:47short because I know the next one's going to be long because
- 21:50I've got a lot of research for that.
- 21:52So I hope you come back for chapter 44 because it'll be very
- 21:55interesting. I might do that a little bit
- 21:57later, but can't do it right now.
- 22:00Anyway, I hope you come back and listen to chapter by chapter.
- 22:06As we say in the Word of God, we get closer to God, we learn more
- 22:10about God and it's beneficial for us when we learn from others
- 22:16mistakes and hopefully we don't have to make them ourselves.
- 22:19Anyway, come back again, subscribe if you haven't.
- 22:24Thank you.
