- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome Two Favorites podcast for the Action Network. I am
- 0:17Speaker 1: Schad Millman, as you can hear, I am joined by
- 0:22Speaker 1: my beautiful brother wear in red for Valentine's Black Jack Fletcher.
- 0:29Speaker 1: How you doing, Millie? Glad to be here? Yeah, yeah,
- 0:32Speaker 1: seem a little stressed, not stressed at all, feeling good.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Got a little chocolate martini, homemade chocolate martini. You welcome
- 0:40Speaker 1: that you made for me. Had a crazy couple of
- 0:43Speaker 1: days in Connecticut, in the mansion in Connecticut. Glad to
- 0:47Speaker 1: be back in New York. We gotta packed show today.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Later on in the show, guess who's coming on the show.
- 0:52Speaker 1: My personal friend Will Fetters, Our friends Bill Fetters Awards
- 0:59Speaker 1: for writing A Star is Born Best Adapted Screenplay. If
- 1:03Speaker 1: he got nominated, I riot he got nominated. Bradley Cooper
- 1:07Speaker 1: did not for Best Director yet do you think that's
- 1:09Speaker 1: causing tension between them? No? Absolutely not. No. Will did
- 1:13Speaker 1: his job well. Will wrote a beautiful screenplay. So you're
- 1:16Speaker 1: saying Cooper did not do his job. No, he absolutely
- 1:19Speaker 1: did it. So the Academy's faulter a bunch of clowns.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I want to know who's on this nameless faceless Academy.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I want accountability. That's what I want, Okay, Because if
- 1:28Speaker 1: you watched that film as I did again on Sunday night,
- 1:32Speaker 1: and you weren't moved by what Bradley Cooper did in
- 1:35Speaker 1: an acting capacity and a directorial capacity in his debut,
- 1:39Speaker 1: I might add, um, then you're just an ass and
- 1:43Speaker 1: apparently the Academy is a bunch of ass clowns. Well,
- 1:46Speaker 1: we're going to get into all that with Will Fetters.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Uh as is the new format of the show. Um,
- 1:51Speaker 1: We're going to talk about some bets largely centered around
- 1:54Speaker 1: the All Star Game, and then you and I are
- 1:57Speaker 1: going to decide if we're going in together or if
- 1:59Speaker 1: we're beating each other. Remember the last time we met
- 2:01Speaker 1: each other. I think I lost. Yeah, I took two
- 2:04Speaker 1: and fifty dollars. It was not enjoyable for me. It
- 2:08Speaker 1: got really tense, Like this was the Super Bowl and
- 2:11Speaker 1: we had that live stream going and you and I
- 2:13Speaker 1: watched the first half together and then you kind of
- 2:16Speaker 1: got drunker as the game went on, and and you
- 2:19Speaker 1: like kept slapping me in the back and then like
- 2:21Speaker 1: rubbing my shoulders, and like I was have doing work,
- 2:25Speaker 1: like trying to be a professional because we actually have
- 2:27Speaker 1: stuff watching the Super Bowl, biggest day of our of
- 2:30Speaker 1: our careers at the action Now, I was working too,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I was on the live stream. Someone had to be,
- 2:35Speaker 1: so was I. And then you just got you just
- 2:38Speaker 1: got too annoying. I could not I honestly couldn't do
- 2:40Speaker 1: with you. I got two annoying to you when I
- 2:42Speaker 1: not only beat you in our bet, but I covered
- 2:45Speaker 1: the Patriots minus nine and a half that I bet
- 2:48Speaker 1: right before kickoff. That really annoyed you, really, Like it
- 2:53Speaker 1: got to the point where I was watching the game.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I'm like, everybody was watching the game. We have eight
- 2:57Speaker 1: screens in our office. Everybody was watching, like on one
- 3:00Speaker 1: side of the room. I was by myself on the
- 3:02Speaker 1: other side of the room, praying that Greg's airline would
- 3:06Speaker 1: make that last second field goal so that I wouldn't
- 3:08Speaker 1: cover the nine and a half. But I did. Yeah,
- 3:10Speaker 1: that totally totally irritated me. Yeah, well, too bad. It
- 3:16Speaker 1: was ugly. The whole thing was ugly. Um, so we're
- 3:18Speaker 1: gonna do that. That's going to be before Will Fetters
- 3:20Speaker 1: comes on. Um, how great was that? Roman read? By
- 3:24Speaker 1: the way, we're getting response on Twitter from the right
- 3:26Speaker 1: Roman Roman really like, are they doing it again. They
- 3:30Speaker 1: are doing it? Are we reading it today? Oh? My god,
- 3:32Speaker 1: in front of us. We got a Roman read today.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I'm so super excited about that. So your kindness, let's
- 3:38Speaker 1: be kind to our bodies and on Valentine's Day, double
- 3:42Speaker 1: up on your room and double up on your Roman.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Be kind to your loved ones. All right, we'll get
- 3:48Speaker 1: to Roman in a little bit, but first, let's say
- 3:50Speaker 1: hello to the start of the show. Okay, Happy Valentine's Day. Boys.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I'm really rather fond of one of you. Oh that's amazing.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Do you know what's amazing how many people when we
- 4:06Speaker 1: did our live podcast I didn't think Georgina was real shocking,
- 4:11Speaker 1: including Jeff Schwartz. It was so nice to see everybody
- 4:15Speaker 1: at the live show a few weeks ago. And to
- 4:17Speaker 1: assure Jeff Schwartz I'm not a robot. He really thought
- 4:22Speaker 1: she was a robot. Glad to see in the new
- 4:25Speaker 1: year with the new podcast, with the new year of
- 4:27Speaker 1: the podcast, we are keeping a kind and I'm stepping
- 4:30Speaker 1: on all of Georgina's lines. That's just part for the course.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Oh is there more? I thought, do you want to
- 4:38Speaker 1: start the show or does Gina have maybe an iTunes
- 4:40Speaker 1: reviews Georgina, I didn't know if I was supposed to.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I'm scared now should what happens? John's just gonna stop
- 4:46Speaker 1: talking now? iTunes review user clean the Barrel subject. I
- 4:53Speaker 1: literally dream about this. I literally dreamt about the podcast
- 4:59Speaker 1: and the whole cost to characters being at my grandparents
- 5:02Speaker 1: beach house. I was drinking and betting high school volleyball
- 5:06Speaker 1: with Laduka five star g A M b I l
- 5:18Speaker 1: I n G gamble. It's called g A M B
- 5:24Speaker 1: I l I n G. He he absolutely would be
- 5:29Speaker 1: betting on high school volleyball at your grandmother. Oh my god,
- 5:36Speaker 1: whoever wrote that? That's that's a great one. That is
- 5:39Speaker 1: a great review, And I'm so glad we've infiltrated the
- 5:42Speaker 1: dreams of our listeners. That's frightening. But I mean, Paul
- 5:47Speaker 1: would absolutely be doing that, no doubt about it. There's
- 5:51Speaker 1: he'd be betting high school volleyball. He's probably out in
- 5:54Speaker 1: California right now on Muscle Beach, just bet setting lines
- 5:59Speaker 1: on volleyball games on the beach. He's like walking up
- 6:03Speaker 1: to guys like on the squat rat. If we started
- 6:07Speaker 1: if we started putting high school volleyball in the Free
- 6:09Speaker 1: Action Network app uh, Leduca would be just pounding it
- 6:13Speaker 1: like I'd be getting alerts from Luduca says he's all
- 6:18Speaker 1: over it. It's called B A M B I L
- 6:22Speaker 1: I N G. Just oh, I need that to be
- 6:27Speaker 1: like my ring tone when he calls too much, too much?
- 6:32Speaker 1: Al Right, So should we talk about the All Star weekend?
- 6:35Speaker 1: The All Star weekend, big, big weekend. I'm excited about it.
- 6:41Speaker 1: It's All Star weekend and something called the n b A. So,
- 6:46Speaker 1: who wins the All Star Game? Team Jannis or Team Lebron.
- 6:52Speaker 1: What do you think, black Jack? It's Team Lebron. He's
- 6:55Speaker 1: stacked that team, I mean Lebron, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis,
- 7:00Speaker 1: Kyrie Irving. The team is loaded, man, and there's no
- 7:03Speaker 1: way they're losing that game. There. I think a three
- 7:05Speaker 1: and a half point favorite. Alright, So, um, what's interesting
- 7:10Speaker 1: about this is, Look, the NBA just stole the show
- 7:15Speaker 1: from the NFL during Super Bowl week and then in
- 7:19Speaker 1: the following week with the draft, like they just know
- 7:22Speaker 1: how to do it. Keen analysis into who's gonna win
- 7:26Speaker 1: the game? There? Yeah, Well, I was just thinking about
- 7:30Speaker 1: how the fact that like listen, can I finish? I
- 7:35Speaker 1: don't know, can you have? You're taken your Roman boom.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Roman is gonna love this podcast. Soon. They're going to
- 7:43Speaker 1: be the title sponsor for this. We should get Roman
- 7:45Speaker 1: to be the title I will tell you, I will
- 7:48Speaker 1: tell you. We get these like requests earlier in the year,
- 7:51Speaker 1: will you or won't you sort of approve or like
- 7:54Speaker 1: this kind of read on your podcast? And we got Roman,
- 7:58Speaker 1: like in September they sent us something. I was so
- 8:02Speaker 1: happy and we both were like yes, a thousand times yes,
- 8:06Speaker 1: and like, I don't know why it took unto February
- 8:10Speaker 1: to get Roman on the podcast. We've never been more
- 8:14Speaker 1: excited about never company sponsoring us ever. I've been prepped
- 8:17Speaker 1: for this for months. The only other one we're waiting
- 8:19Speaker 1: on is the legalized marijuana. No, this is better, this
- 8:22Speaker 1: is better. Come on, listen. Marijuana is all right, but
- 8:26Speaker 1: we're talking hard dicks here, so true. Alright, So who's
- 8:32Speaker 1: gonna win the All Star Game? It's gonna be Team Lebron.
- 8:35Speaker 1: You and I are on the exact exact same page
- 8:37Speaker 1: for that. We can't even debate it. Do do you
- 8:40Speaker 1: have any analysis for us? I haven't been paying much
- 8:43Speaker 1: attention because I've been busy at my house, all right,
- 8:45Speaker 1: So so we both have Team Lebron. Like I said that,
- 8:48Speaker 1: the roster that he picked is just loaded, and he
- 8:53Speaker 1: picked a lot of guys who were in their walk
- 8:55Speaker 1: here into free agency. This is a big stage. I
- 8:57Speaker 1: think guys are gonna want to put on a show,
- 8:59Speaker 1: really form well kind of head into free agency that way.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Some guys that maybe may not go into the playoffs
- 9:04Speaker 1: Anthony Davis um or may not go that far in it. Whatever,
- 9:08Speaker 1: there is no way anybody is thinking about anything for
- 9:13Speaker 1: the future in this All Star Game. There's just not
- 9:16Speaker 1: Why not because they're not. It's like you go into
- 9:19Speaker 1: the All Star Game. You want to be with your buddies.
- 9:22Speaker 1: You're gonna lay down some connections for the following year,
- 9:25Speaker 1: but you're not going to go into it thinking I'm
- 9:27Speaker 1: going to play hard to prove. Do you think that
- 9:29Speaker 1: Russell Westbrook looks out it that way, because I don't.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Granted he's on Team You honest, but um, that dude
- 9:36Speaker 1: I think takes everything serious. Russell Westbrook is thinking he's
- 9:40Speaker 1: my favorite basketball player. I love him. He is amazing.
- 9:46Speaker 1: He is ten straight triple Devils it's astonishing. I actually
- 9:50Speaker 1: I just feel like, how does his body not breaking down?
- 9:54Speaker 1: I'd like to see the guy brush his teeth, Like,
- 9:56Speaker 1: how hard does he go brushing his teeth? That dude
- 9:58Speaker 1: makes his gums bleed. Like everything is intense when he
- 10:02Speaker 1: when those clips come out about him playing with his kid,
- 10:05Speaker 1: like you see those clips on YouTube, I feel like
- 10:07Speaker 1: he's just gonna like he's gonna block every He's gonna
- 10:09Speaker 1: start trash talking his kid. Yeah, that guy plays hard.
- 10:12Speaker 1: He doesn't need Roman. Now. I was going to go
- 10:15Speaker 1: there with Roman, but everybody could use Roman, no matter
- 10:19Speaker 1: who you are. All Right, we'll get to the Roman ad.
- 10:22Speaker 1: What do we have next? Georgina who wins MVP? This
- 10:28Speaker 1: is interesting to me because Jeff Schwartz on I'll take
- 10:31Speaker 1: that bet this morning had a really interesting take, and
- 10:35Speaker 1: he's kind of swayed me a little bit. I wanted
- 10:38Speaker 1: no part of Lebron on this bet because it's the
- 10:40Speaker 1: All Star game. He's coming off an injury, like Lebron
- 10:43Speaker 1: seems like a guy who might just coast here. But
- 10:46Speaker 1: Jeff Schwartz makes an excellent point. This game is in Charlotte.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Michael Jordan will be at this game. It's his arena,
- 10:53Speaker 1: it's his home team, and Lebron would like nothing more
- 10:58Speaker 1: than to just go out and put on an unreal
- 11:01Speaker 1: show in front of Michael Jordan's sitting courtside. He dominates
- 11:05Speaker 1: the Hornets in Charlotte, and Jeff pointed out that when
- 11:08Speaker 1: Lebron plays in Charlotte, Michael Jordan doesn't sit courtside for
- 11:12Speaker 1: those games because he knows it will motivate Lebron, so
- 11:15Speaker 1: he doesn't sit on the floor. Great insight from our
- 11:19Speaker 1: newest NBA analyst, Jeff Schwartz. Really interesting theory, and Jeff
- 11:22Speaker 1: Schwartz certainly a very bright guy. But there's only one
- 11:27Speaker 1: answer here. What's the answer, Dwyane Wade? Are you into
- 11:32Speaker 1: your fucking mind? Dwayne Wade out there on crutches? Do
- 11:36Speaker 1: you remember Dwyane Wade is beloved by everybody in this game.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Every single player in this game loves Dwayne Wade. And
- 11:48Speaker 1: you might recall Magic Johnson the year he played in
- 11:51Speaker 1: the All Star Game after he announced he had HIV.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Totally different. They gave him the rock, they made it,
- 11:59Speaker 1: they made it a layup for him to win. You're
- 12:02Speaker 1: comparing apples and Roman pills. There's nothing Magic Johnson had
- 12:07Speaker 1: aids Man. They thought he was gonna die. It was
- 12:10Speaker 1: like a send off, like this is a this is
- 12:13Speaker 1: a send off. No, that was a send off to
- 12:15Speaker 1: the great beyond, not retirement. But for a lot of
- 12:18Speaker 1: these guys, like there is no life after the NBA. No, no,
- 12:22Speaker 1: it's not Dwayne Wade. There's value on James Harden at
- 12:25Speaker 1: plus fourteen hundred, This value I think on Kemba Walker
- 12:28Speaker 1: at plus eight hundred. Kemba is one of those guys
- 12:30Speaker 1: who I think a lot of people look at as
- 12:32Speaker 1: like a fringe All Star and maybe wants to prove
- 12:34Speaker 1: he belongs also his home floor, and we've seen him
- 12:37Speaker 1: go off for sixties some nights. I mean, gets not
- 12:40Speaker 1: a fringe All Star. I agree with you, but I
- 12:42Speaker 1: think some people look at him that that way. Okay,
- 12:45Speaker 1: anybody forgot how in touch with the NBA. Anybody who
- 12:47Speaker 1: watches basketball knows that he is not a fridge All Star.
- 12:51Speaker 1: What's the last basketball game you watched start to finish? Uh?
- 13:00Speaker 1: Probably watched one sometime this week? All right? I think
- 13:03Speaker 1: the Spurs played who did the Spurs play? There? In
- 13:06Speaker 1: to night? I had him at minus four and a half.
- 13:10Speaker 1: The Griz they won one. Yeah, I had that too, Yeah,
- 13:13Speaker 1: but I did not. We didn't cover, didn't cover. Um,
- 13:17Speaker 1: So I'm going which way? Wade? Okay, well you're an idiot.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I'm I'm gonna go with with shorts here and say
- 13:25Speaker 1: Lebron goes nuts in front of Michael Jordan. There's gonna
- 13:28Speaker 1: be some taunting. Hey, Michael Jordan may go out on
- 13:32Speaker 1: the floor at some point. Let's take listen. I gave
- 13:34Speaker 1: you two value plays to Kemba Walker and James Harden
- 13:37Speaker 1: James Harden plus and uh, the guys scoring like points
- 13:42Speaker 1: a night. I'm just gonna take the truck. Are you done?
- 13:48Speaker 1: Take a stand? I just did do something fun. It's
- 13:50Speaker 1: the All Star Game. Give yourself a reason? Rout? God?
- 13:53Speaker 1: What's next? Who wins the dunk contest? I had Dennis
- 13:58Speaker 1: Smith Jr. Is the favorite end. I'm sure you've got
- 14:03Speaker 1: great analysis on this one. I am going with Dennis
- 14:06Speaker 1: Smith Jr. And this one. Actually, did you watch last
- 14:11Speaker 1: year's done contest? You know? Okay, do you know who
- 14:15Speaker 1: was in it? Dennis Smith Jr. Yeah? Did you see
- 14:19Speaker 1: his performance? Tell me he tried a lot of creative dunks,
- 14:25Speaker 1: but he couldn't execute them. He kept missing over and
- 14:28Speaker 1: over over. You tried once and failed, so he can't
- 14:32Speaker 1: do it again. I don't think he's going to be
- 14:35Speaker 1: the guy to get this done. It's a field of four.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I don't think he's going to be the guy to
- 14:38Speaker 1: get this done. Now, Collins, let's let's talk about the
- 14:42Speaker 1: people in there, all right, Collins, big man, they rarely win. Okay?
- 14:47Speaker 1: Uh Dwight Howard ever hear of him? Great? So the
- 14:51Speaker 1: exception that proves a rule. You can go that way
- 14:54Speaker 1: if you like. Who else? Tell me? Tell me something
- 14:56Speaker 1: about Hammad Diallo not even playing in the league soon,
- 15:00Speaker 1: the Chili who gave you that note? Nobody? I know
- 15:07Speaker 1: you've got that note from the chuckler. So who's your
- 15:13Speaker 1: pick here? Dennis Smith Jr. I'm gonna go with John Collins?
- 15:16Speaker 1: Where John Collins go to college? John Collins? Yeah, where
- 15:19Speaker 1: do you go to college? Did you go to college
- 15:22Speaker 1: where you don't know? Wake Wake Forest? Interesting? Yeah, that's
- 15:28Speaker 1: my pick John Collins, even though he's a big man.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Where did Dennis Smith Jr? Go to college? And? See
- 15:33Speaker 1: where did I go to college? Indiana? Because you couldn't
- 15:37Speaker 1: get into Northwestern. I didn't even try to get in
- 15:39Speaker 1: Northwestern because you knew you wouldn't know. The application was
- 15:42Speaker 1: just too well, Okay, you're not Northwestern material. That's for
- 15:46Speaker 1: the Greenbergs and Revels of the world. Don't be jealous.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Are we betting on the yet? It all right? I'll bet.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Would I take Dennis Smith Junior? Yeah, I'll bet for
- 16:01Speaker 1: fifty bucks? Fifty bucks, you got it. I'll take John Collins.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Here we go. We're down. Don't forget in about five minutes.
- 16:08Speaker 1: We got Will Fetters coming up. He was nominated for
- 16:10Speaker 1: an Academy Award, which is more than I can say
- 16:13Speaker 1: for Blackjack, who like drives to Gloman every single guest
- 16:15Speaker 1: we've ever had, and turned himself into something that he isn't.
- 16:18Speaker 1: It's called it's called opportunism, which it's called success. Like
- 16:22Speaker 1: all those books you wrote that no one read four
- 16:25Speaker 1: best sellers. At our live show, I was asked to
- 16:28Speaker 1: autograph your book. Think about that. I'm not thinking about
- 16:34Speaker 1: it ever should It's like a bad It's like the
- 16:37Speaker 1: anti Roman pill. Thinking about you signed my book. Mhm. Next,
- 16:43Speaker 1: who wins the three point contest? To be honest? I
- 16:46Speaker 1: like Steph Curry, mm hmm. You got nothing here? Do
- 16:51Speaker 1: you too many names? Hold on, let me look up
- 16:54Speaker 1: the odds here. You're gonna take Larry Bird. See is
- 16:56Speaker 1: he doing it? Evin Booker plus five? Steph is uh
- 17:05Speaker 1: plus two twenty? How do you not go with Seth Curry?
- 17:08Speaker 1: That's where I'm going. Yeah, I like that. This is plus.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Let me hear your have a theory on this. This
- 17:15Speaker 1: is the only time in Seth Curry's life that he
- 17:18Speaker 1: has a chance to one up his older brother. He's
- 17:21Speaker 1: never going to do it. Really as a basketball player.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Steph Curry is gonna have fame for as long as
- 17:27Speaker 1: he wants it. He's got this picture perfect family. This
- 17:30Speaker 1: is Seth Curry's moment to trump his older brother in
- 17:34Speaker 1: the three point contest. The thing that Steph does best
- 17:37Speaker 1: and he's most known for. His younger brother comes out
- 17:40Speaker 1: with that inferiority complex. You've got sons, you know how
- 17:43Speaker 1: it is. He's gonna come out and he's gonna put
- 17:46Speaker 1: the beat down on Steph in the three point contest
- 17:49Speaker 1: at a very nice price, Steph Curry. Uh. Forbes just
- 17:53Speaker 1: came out with the highest paid NBA players, um obviously
- 17:58Speaker 1: Steph Lebron number one. Steph Curry, Hold on, I'm looking
- 18:02Speaker 1: for it right here. It's just taking me a second.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Lebron made eight point seven million dollars last year, including salary,
- 18:09Speaker 1: bonuses and endorsements. Steph Curry eighty million dollars. Yeah, this
- 18:13Speaker 1: is Curry made eighty million dollars last year. This is
- 18:18Speaker 1: from I'm reading this from Kendall Baker on Axios. He
- 18:20Speaker 1: does his great news sports newsletter and so I got
- 18:22Speaker 1: this in so free ads. Kendell's good guy. If Axios
- 18:29Speaker 1: wants the publicity, they can give us an ad like Roman.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Can anyone give us an ad like Roman? Can anyone
- 18:35Speaker 1: do anything for us like Roman can do for us?
- 18:37Speaker 1: Why have we gotten free Roman samples? Chad needs his
- 18:41Speaker 1: boner pills. Kevin Durant, guy's got a popsicle stick tied
- 18:46Speaker 1: to the thing. Kevin Durant was sixty five million. It's
- 18:51Speaker 1: interesting list. Okay, So the three point contest three point contest,
- 18:56Speaker 1: I'm changing my my Joe Harris on the Action Network, Harris,
- 19:01Speaker 1: Joe Harris. Rob Perez Worldwide Wide did a great video
- 19:04Speaker 1: in his story, and then Matt Moore did a story
- 19:06Speaker 1: about Joe Harris. I think he might be the best
- 19:09Speaker 1: three point shooter in the league, and he is entirely undervalued.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I feel like we had to beg the NBA to
- 19:15Speaker 1: get Joe Harris into the three point Contest, and we
- 19:19Speaker 1: did it because we showed him making three pointers literally
- 19:22Speaker 1: with his eyes closed. So what he can hit trick shots?
- 19:25Speaker 1: Big deal, Joe Harris plus six to Okay, I'll give
- 19:32Speaker 1: you twenty five. I not as much money as you do,
- 19:35Speaker 1: big big time here, alright, fine, I'll take Seth. All right,
- 19:39Speaker 1: what's next, Georgie. So there's a thing called the Skills Contest.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Apparently you can bet on it. Who's going to win
- 19:46Speaker 1: that black jack? Luka don Chetch. This contest is tailor
- 19:50Speaker 1: made for Luka don Chech. He's fast, he's got great handles,
- 19:55Speaker 1: he can pass the ball very accurately, and he's good
- 19:57Speaker 1: enough shooter to win it. There's a lot of really
- 20:00Speaker 1: talented guys in this, but I think you need to
- 20:03Speaker 1: have the ability to do this stuff almost all of
- 20:06Speaker 1: it on the first try. We see a lot of
- 20:07Speaker 1: guys get hung up when they're trying to pass the
- 20:09Speaker 1: ball into the uh into the net there. If you
- 20:12Speaker 1: miss that a few times, your time is just not
- 20:14Speaker 1: going to be good enough to win it, don ch
- 20:17Speaker 1: I think has the best vision and passing of anyone
- 20:19Speaker 1: in this He's quick. I like done here. He's the
- 20:22Speaker 1: second choice beyond the Aaron Fox. This is a really
- 20:25Speaker 1: tough one because Nicola Yoki might go to the Hall
- 20:30Speaker 1: of Fame. He's that good. I think we're a little
- 20:35Speaker 1: early on that train, but he's very good. And I
- 20:38Speaker 1: think he's going to come out there and he's going
- 20:40Speaker 1: to be like, I'm the only itch that needs to
- 20:44Speaker 1: be scratched in this skills contest the fund? Does that mean?
- 20:52Speaker 1: Did I say his name rights chuckles writing your jokes
- 20:55Speaker 1: now too? No, I just made it up literally as
- 20:57Speaker 1: I was saying that. No, he would have been better
- 20:59Speaker 1: than that. Have you seen what this guy does in
- 21:03Speaker 1: the atlet Yes, Chad, Yes, I watched the NBA. Yes,
- 21:06Speaker 1: he's like our Vitas Sabonis. Oh my god, I could
- 21:11Speaker 1: have gone with like Kevin Love in Minnesota. He's like
- 21:14Speaker 1: Kevin Love in Minnesota. Yeah, fact Kevin Love back in
- 21:17Speaker 1: the day, like fat Kevin Love never got hurt and
- 21:21Speaker 1: skinny Kevin Love is always getting hurt. Yeah that happens,
- 21:24Speaker 1: That happens to some guys. Kevin Love should have stayed
- 21:26Speaker 1: fat the padding. Maybe you know what I think. I
- 21:31Speaker 1: think fat is like tougher than muscle. Muscle is a
- 21:34Speaker 1: little bit more fragile. So yeah, he should have stayed fatty.
- 21:37Speaker 1: He's a better player, all right, another twenty five. I'm
- 21:39Speaker 1: taking Yokich, you're taking Dutch. M hm, alright, done what
- 21:45Speaker 1: else we got? Wasn't that? Everything is everything? Right? Those
- 21:51Speaker 1: we're all the ones. We're gonna do um to run
- 21:54Speaker 1: it down. We are both on Team Lebron at minus
- 21:57Speaker 1: three and a half four um. The three point Contest,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I am on who was I on again, Joe Harris
- 22:05Speaker 1: a plus six seventy four. You're on Seth Curry at
- 22:08Speaker 1: plus four sixty six. So we have a twenty five
- 22:10Speaker 1: dollar bet on that one. On the Skills Challenge, you
- 22:14Speaker 1: are on Luca. I am on Nicola he lukea is
- 22:17Speaker 1: a plus four hundred, Nikols a plus five hundred. We
- 22:20Speaker 1: have a twenty five dollar bet on that one. The
- 22:23Speaker 1: Dunk Contest, I am on Dennis Smith, you were on
- 22:26Speaker 1: John Collins. We are at fifty dollars on that one,
- 22:30Speaker 1: and that was everything. Dennis Smith is a nick He's
- 22:33Speaker 1: going to tank the dunk contest too. Bonus question, which
- 22:39Speaker 1: movie wins Best Picture of the Oscars that has nothing
- 22:42Speaker 1: to do with sports? Uh, black Panther, you're right in
- 22:46Speaker 1: your mind? Are you looking serious right now? Plus three D?
- 22:48Speaker 1: Please tell me you're not being serious. Do you think
- 22:50Speaker 1: it's gonna be Roma, a comic book movie. It's going
- 22:54Speaker 1: to be Roma. You know. Here's my only hesitation with that.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Roma is winning a lot of awards. To watch Rama, Okay,
- 23:02Speaker 1: I did. It's it's a really really good movie. It's
- 23:04Speaker 1: it's it's very good. I would. I think there's some
- 23:08Speaker 1: hesitation for the Academy to give an Oscar for Best
- 23:12Speaker 1: Picture to a Netflix movie. I think there's a little
- 23:14Speaker 1: concern there, like Netflix is the giant death star that
- 23:18Speaker 1: Hollywood is staring down, and it feels like to give
- 23:22Speaker 1: them Best Picture at the Oscars on their first crack
- 23:24Speaker 1: at it, it's like, what the hell is everyone else doing?
- 23:28Speaker 1: Everyone else is fighting for second place. I think there's
- 23:30Speaker 1: gonna be a little bit of pushback to that. Alfonso
- 23:32Speaker 1: Corone for Director, He's gonna win that, but I don't know,
- 23:35Speaker 1: man Best Picture feels it feels like there's a little
- 23:39Speaker 1: pushback from from the Hollywood elites on that one. Alright, well,
- 23:44Speaker 1: let's go with Black Panther. No, it's A Star is Born,
- 23:47Speaker 1: you idiot. Plus four hundred. Now, I bet this at
- 23:50Speaker 1: like three to one. It's at plus fourteen hundred. Now,
- 23:55Speaker 1: m listen, chat, go down the list of the movies.
- 23:59Speaker 1: All Right, Black Panthers a comic book movie. I don't
- 24:01Speaker 1: want to hear it. All Right, it's good for a
- 24:02Speaker 1: comic book movie, but that's what it was. Black Klansman
- 24:06Speaker 1: entertaining really good story. Um, but I don't think it
- 24:10Speaker 1: compares to Green Book or A Star is Born. Bohemian
- 24:14Speaker 1: Rhapsody sucked. All right. I Rammy Malick was good as
- 24:17Speaker 1: Freddie Mercury, but the movie sucked. Okay, it was not good.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I enjoyed the favorite. I thought it was. It had
- 24:25Speaker 1: its its lighter moments, which it was a good movie.
- 24:29Speaker 1: But again, I don't think it's up there with Green
- 24:31Speaker 1: Book or A Star is Born. Vice is not gonna win.
- 24:33Speaker 1: They're not getting best picture of a movie about Dick Cheney. Um,
- 24:37Speaker 1: green Book was really really good. The concern I have
- 24:41Speaker 1: there is there's a little bit of controversy with the
- 24:45Speaker 1: family saying that the movie is not entirely accurate, and
- 24:49Speaker 1: if you would have had both families in on this movie.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Then I think it's a runaway winner. But I don't
- 24:54Speaker 1: know how much controversy they really want to get into. Listen,
- 24:57Speaker 1: A Star is Born as a classic timeless film by
- 25:00Speaker 1: a genius man, Will Fetters, personal friend of mine. It
- 25:06Speaker 1: should win, It should win. I don't know if it
- 25:08Speaker 1: will because these awards shows seem to be snubbing it
- 25:11Speaker 1: for some unknown reason, which is sickening. But at plus
- 25:14Speaker 1: four it's worth a bet. You know what we should do.
- 25:18Speaker 1: We should call Will Fetters and we're going to get
- 25:21Speaker 1: him on the phone. We're gonna ask about all these things.
- 25:23Speaker 1: You need his number. I got his number. I just
- 25:25Speaker 1: gave it to Chuckles and um. But first, I bet
- 25:28Speaker 1: we're going to do a Roman ad And I think
- 25:29Speaker 1: that's the perfect meading to get us ready and excited.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I Will Fetters and alright, Blackjack, As I said, we're
- 25:38Speaker 1: gonna have Will Fetters on next and that is exciting,
- 25:41Speaker 1: also exciting. Do you know the guys are terrible taking
- 25:44Speaker 1: care of their health, whether it's a knee injury, bad back,
- 25:47Speaker 1: or something worth guys are usually more comfortable rubbing some
- 25:50Speaker 1: dirt on it than seeing a doctor. I'm guilty of
- 25:52Speaker 1: it myself. Remember black Jack, We've talked about the time
- 25:55Speaker 1: I broke my back and still still wrote the story
- 26:00Speaker 1: for ESPN the magazine, because that's what I do. The
- 26:04Speaker 1: same is true for a rectile dysfunction. This is from Roman.

- 27:49Speaker 1: we have on the show Academy Award nominee my friend,
- 27:53Speaker 1: screenwriter of a Star is born. He just backs black
- 27:57Speaker 1: Jack's friend, Mr Will Fetters. He's getting on the phone
- 28:01Speaker 1: with us in the middle of all the Academy Award hoopla,
- 28:05Speaker 1: having just dropped his kids off at school on a
- 28:07Speaker 1: rainy day in l A. That's because he's not only
- 28:10Speaker 1: a talented writer but also a devoted father. He doesn't listen.
- 28:14Speaker 1: You know the thing I like about Will Fetters he
- 28:16Speaker 1: doesn't let it go to his head, like he could
- 28:19Speaker 1: have his kids. Helicopters at the guy's an Academy Award nominee,
- 28:23Speaker 1: friends with the most electrifying voice in sports media me,
- 28:26Speaker 1: and he's still as humble as the day we found
- 28:29Speaker 1: him a few months ago, as humble as the day
- 28:32Speaker 1: he anonymously sent an email to the Action will work serious,
- 28:37Speaker 1: serious question, will um? Since you met us, specifically me,
- 28:43Speaker 1: you have been nominated for your first Academy award. Um,
- 28:48Speaker 1: how much of that credit goes to me? How don't know?
- 28:52Speaker 1: How do you end up in the NFL season? Really
- 28:54Speaker 1: it's a question of, like I feel like maybe I
- 28:58Speaker 1: depends like did you did to take the rams of
- 29:00Speaker 1: the Patriots in the Super Bowl? What do you think
- 29:02Speaker 1: I did? Will? I know you took the Patriots? I
- 29:05Speaker 1: listened to the listen to the podcast. How did your
- 29:09Speaker 1: props do? By the way, I will get back to
- 29:10Speaker 1: the Academy awarding a second, I almost bet them all,
- 29:14Speaker 1: but then I have three kids and I didn't. I
- 29:16Speaker 1: will say that. I will say that the props that
- 29:20Speaker 1: the Action Network told everybody to take, we're brilliant. They
- 29:24Speaker 1: nailed it. Um. The props that I personally took didn't
- 29:29Speaker 1: do so well and and for some reason I didn't
- 29:32Speaker 1: follow like every single piece of advice on the Action Network.
- 29:35Speaker 1: The only thing you should do for props do whatever.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Sean Corner from the Action Network says, like the guy
- 29:42Speaker 1: is Sean Corner, Koe are any are the guy's gold.
- 29:47Speaker 1: He was like lit up for props during the Super Bowl,
- 29:51Speaker 1: and like I just couldn't take all of them. And
- 29:54Speaker 1: I think I took like three of them and I
- 29:58Speaker 1: won two of them, and then like I took six
- 30:00Speaker 1: others that he didn't recommend that I just sort of
- 30:03Speaker 1: thought were smart and I didn't win. Yeah, it was.
- 30:07Speaker 1: It was that kind of day for the for the
- 30:09Speaker 1: for the contrarian gambler. It really really was. It really
- 30:12Speaker 1: was a super Bowl made for you two guys. I
- 30:14Speaker 1: mean it would have given given the theme of this podcast,
- 30:19Speaker 1: wise guy versus versus the guy who says, maybe we
- 30:22Speaker 1: should just been on Tom Brady a lot usually, maybe
- 30:26Speaker 1: we've been on the best player in football forever. That
- 30:29Speaker 1: might be a good idea. You know what they do.
- 30:31Speaker 1: You want to minimize how dum you feel? That's my
- 30:33Speaker 1: thing with Tom Bradys. You just want to minimize do
- 30:35Speaker 1: dum you feel And that was my rule I applied
- 30:38Speaker 1: this year for the contest. It was like, if we're
- 30:40Speaker 1: chasing seventeen points on the road in Kansas City, maybe
- 30:43Speaker 1: instead we just take Tom Brady that sometimes we didn't
- 30:46Speaker 1: like a couple of times, I feel like you guys
- 30:49Speaker 1: are getting up on me. No, not at all, Jad,
- 30:53Speaker 1: I mean that must have been brutal Field. Did did you?
- 30:55Speaker 1: I mean we want to get into but did you
- 30:57Speaker 1: take the Patriots like and or did you take the Amazbory?
- 31:00Speaker 1: Were you? It really was like it was like your Alamo.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I mean the line came out of this makes no
- 31:07Speaker 1: sense at all, like every dummy in the world, no
- 31:10Speaker 1: offense black Jack, Like all the dummies and Blackjack are
- 31:14Speaker 1: gonna be on the Patriot and you couldn't do it
- 31:18Speaker 1: like you said, will uh. The Alamo was a great
- 31:22Speaker 1: way to describe it's very literary view cinematic because I
- 31:27Speaker 1: was on the RAMS and I was on the Rams
- 31:31Speaker 1: at plus two, I was on the Rams on the
- 31:33Speaker 1: money Line, I was on um every Rams. I was
- 31:37Speaker 1: on Todd Gurley over a hundred and twenty three and
- 31:40Speaker 1: a half over a hundred rushing yards and receiving yards combined.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I think I was on like, um, Marcus Peters and
- 31:48Speaker 1: I keep to leave uh and Robert Woods to win
- 31:52Speaker 1: the m v P. Like Marcus Peters, you name it,
- 31:56Speaker 1: if you name a rams bet, I was on it.
- 32:01Speaker 1: It was as Blackshack and I were just talking about
- 32:03Speaker 1: earlier in the podcast, which you'll hear um on that Sunday,
- 32:08Speaker 1: we were all watching it together and we did this
- 32:10Speaker 1: live stream from the Action Network, and Blackjack and I
- 32:12Speaker 1: were sitting watching the game and the live stream together
- 32:14Speaker 1: in the beginning, and at halftime, I had to walk
- 32:16Speaker 1: away just because he was so drunk and annoying, and
- 32:20Speaker 1: I needed to watch the game like by myself to
- 32:23Speaker 1: try to will a win, because you knew if the
- 32:25Speaker 1: Patriots got a touchdown lead the game was over. It
- 32:28Speaker 1: might as well. So it just let's talk about something
- 32:33Speaker 1: that we all enjoy, which is let's go let's go
- 32:38Speaker 1: to a Star was born, Let's talk about the movie
- 32:42Speaker 1: give us the lowdown, man, Like, you're fucking nominated for
- 32:46Speaker 1: an Academy Award. What does it mean? Like I feel
- 32:49Speaker 1: like who was Like, you know, Tracy Wilson, what does
- 32:52Speaker 1: this mean to you? You know, it's actually funny man,
- 32:56Speaker 1: I've been telling myself intellectually for the last few months.
- 32:59Speaker 1: You know that I just wanted it from my career,
- 33:02Speaker 1: you know, I was I would I would always talk
- 33:04Speaker 1: to people, and you know all I wanted to OSPAR
- 33:06Speaker 1: nomination because, as a friend of mine said the day
- 33:08Speaker 1: I got nominated, literally, if you do nothing else for
- 33:11Speaker 1: the rest of your life, now on your tombstone, they
- 33:13Speaker 1: can put Academy Award nominated. And I was like, I
- 33:16Speaker 1: hope this isn't the mountaintop, but okay, um right. At
- 33:19Speaker 1: the same time, I didn't really realize so that was
- 33:23Speaker 1: my intellectual and maybe that my defenses were up. But
- 33:25Speaker 1: then the morning of the announcements, we were sleep training
- 33:30Speaker 1: our baby with your kids are older, which you might
- 33:32Speaker 1: remember how horrible that it um. And so the baby
- 33:35Speaker 1: was was up through the night and the announcement at
- 33:37Speaker 1: five twenty um here, and so I had an alarm
- 33:40Speaker 1: set but I woke up like three times in the
- 33:42Speaker 1: night with the baby. I ended up waking up and
- 33:45Speaker 1: I woke up at like five three two, like I
- 33:48Speaker 1: jumped out of better late for school, ran in my
- 33:50Speaker 1: living room, but I have a one story like kind
- 33:52Speaker 1: of ran in my living room, and literally I turned
- 33:55Speaker 1: on the TV. The sound was off, and and on
- 33:58Speaker 1: the TV it just I didn't even know what channel
- 34:01Speaker 1: it was left on, but I must have been left
- 34:02Speaker 1: right on K D L A and and filling my
- 34:05Speaker 1: television said adapted screenplay. And then I swear to God,
- 34:10Speaker 1: I'm telling you this is and this is exactly how
- 34:12Speaker 1: it happened, giving me you the blow by blow. So
- 34:15Speaker 1: not only does it just say adapted screenplay with no sound,
- 34:18Speaker 1: there are three nominees up, and I have watched no
- 34:21Speaker 1: other announcements, so I have absolutely no context for how
- 34:24Speaker 1: they're being announced. And the ones that were up there
- 34:27Speaker 1: were the Cohen Brothers movie Can You Ever Forgive Me?
- 34:31Speaker 1: And Black Klansman. Now, the Cohen's was like that was
- 34:35Speaker 1: that was uh terrifying because that came from nowhere and
- 34:39Speaker 1: there was none nobody's board. And and then Can You
- 34:42Speaker 1: Ever Forgive Me was kind of on the cusp, and
- 34:44Speaker 1: I had this moment and this is like it took
- 34:46Speaker 1: about probably ten seconds in real time to get through
- 34:49Speaker 1: the next two because the next one was Barry Jenkins
- 34:52Speaker 1: for If fuel Stree Could Talk, and I was just
- 34:54Speaker 1: ready for the gut punch, like the interfill everything, the
- 34:57Speaker 1: last two years of the Philadelphia wa in the Super Bowl,
- 35:00Speaker 1: the inter Philadelphia schools fan of me, like Allen Iverson,
- 35:04Speaker 1: Allen Iverson getting getting stepping over to Ront Louis and
- 35:07Speaker 1: getting his ass kicks for four straight games, Like all
- 35:10Speaker 1: of it just came, all the Andy Reid moments. I
- 35:13Speaker 1: got like sick to my stepd For like three seconds,
- 35:17Speaker 1: I knew, I was like I was just looking on
- 35:18Speaker 1: the air comes and then and then it then it
- 35:21Speaker 1: just didn't happen. It was like it I lived a
- 35:24Speaker 1: lifetime in that moment and what was really cool? Then
- 35:26Speaker 1: I literally did like a nerdy like Phil Mickelson, hopped
- 35:29Speaker 1: with my arms in the air. I'll never judge. I'll
- 35:32Speaker 1: never judge anybody for a bad celebration. Again, it was
- 35:35Speaker 1: the most unathletic, uninspired thing anyone's ever seen. Um and
- 35:40Speaker 1: thankfully no one saw it but me. But did But
- 35:42Speaker 1: did you get to get back to the question that
- 35:45Speaker 1: moment I realized In that moment, I realized how much
- 35:48Speaker 1: I wanted it in the five seconds I thought it
- 35:51Speaker 1: wasn't gonna happen, and I wanted to because I used
- 35:53Speaker 1: to watch the Academy Awards every year with my my parents.
- 35:57Speaker 1: You know, like I remember like rooting for Babe versus Braveheart,
- 36:00Speaker 1: which is hilarious now, but like all these things that
- 36:04Speaker 1: like just came roaring back. So I was like armygown
- 36:08Speaker 1: in the Young Wan Bruce willis Flat Life Flash. Oh
- 36:13Speaker 1: my god, that is an incredible story. So a couple
- 36:17Speaker 1: of questions I have. I don't know what black jas Scott,
- 36:19Speaker 1: but a couple of questions I have. Number one, Um,
- 36:22Speaker 1: your wife was sleeping, so she was not awake with you, okay?
- 36:25Speaker 1: Number one? Number two, what do you do? So you
- 36:29Speaker 1: find out at five thirty three you're having this surreal
- 36:33Speaker 1: moment you jump up and down like philm Nikison Nicholson
- 36:36Speaker 1: as as a West Wing fan, I was thinking about, like,
- 36:39Speaker 1: you know, Bradley Whitford, he always had those awkward moments,
- 36:43Speaker 1: like when he would do something semi athletic, Like that's
- 36:45Speaker 1: what I was envisioning, But like, what did you so?
- 36:50Speaker 1: Like then what happens? Do you go wake up your wife?
- 36:53Speaker 1: Like do you call Bradley Cooper? Like what do you
- 36:55Speaker 1: do next? You call your agent? A lot of text
- 36:59Speaker 1: messages that day, It was just text messages flying back
- 37:01Speaker 1: and forth. You know, I feel like, you know, it's
- 37:03Speaker 1: funny people. I used to think in people. My dad
- 37:06Speaker 1: even asked, like, when did they call you? Because you
- 37:08Speaker 1: always hear people talk about their Oscar nomination somebody called them,
- 37:12Speaker 1: But that's usually, like I realized, it's just your aging
- 37:14Speaker 1: or your manager calling people. Um. I texted my sister
- 37:17Speaker 1: lives in Spain, and so we texted like right away.
- 37:21Speaker 1: She was really sweet. She watched it like on a
- 37:22Speaker 1: bus in Spain, like on our way to work and
- 37:25Speaker 1: just started crying. And I thought that was really sweet. Um,
- 37:28Speaker 1: and so I does text with people like the whole day.
- 37:30Speaker 1: It was just I mean it was it was like
- 37:33Speaker 1: I want and truthfully that day but I did like
- 37:35Speaker 1: everything else is gravy. It's been a lot of fun.
- 37:37Speaker 1: You know. We went to the baths last weekend. We've
- 37:40Speaker 1: been we're doing this thing for the first time. My
- 37:42Speaker 1: wife gets still dressed up, a little beautiful. It's it's
- 37:45Speaker 1: a lot of fun. So I it was all text
- 37:48Speaker 1: messages that day and and um, I saw Bradley and
- 37:52Speaker 1: you know, everybody's excited that the Oscars luncheon. I'm doing
- 37:55Speaker 1: the thing, the awards season thing that is credible that's
- 38:02Speaker 1: pretty neat. So well, I've got to ask you, because
- 38:05Speaker 1: this is a gambling podcast, as you're aware, heading into
- 38:09Speaker 1: awards season A stars Born was favored in a lot
- 38:12Speaker 1: of categories, or it was among the top choices. And
- 38:14Speaker 1: now after we've seen the Golden Globes and you just
- 38:18Speaker 1: mentioned the BAFTAs over the weekend over in London, the
- 38:21Speaker 1: odds have have fallen quite a bit. So do you
- 38:25Speaker 1: think there's value on betting that right now? I don't know.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I mean the gambler, he says absolutely. Because the other thing,
- 38:35Speaker 1: I realized that the Oscar ballot and I don't get
- 38:37Speaker 1: doing the weeds here, but the Oscar ballot is different.
- 38:40Speaker 1: It's like a weighted ballot. So there's I think it
- 38:44Speaker 1: kind of Somebody explains it to me recently and I
- 38:45Speaker 1: was like, oh, ship, that explains how like crash happened.
- 38:48Speaker 1: You know, if you get if you get a perform
- 38:50Speaker 1: if you're getting put second place a lot, and like say,
- 38:54Speaker 1: I'm saying other movies getting a lot of first but
- 38:56Speaker 1: then gets a bunch of forts and fits. I feel
- 38:58Speaker 1: like the second place can win. So I don't know, man,
- 39:02Speaker 1: I think I think I'm I'm shock I mean, I
- 39:04Speaker 1: I sent, I sent this thing to Bradley. I had
- 39:08Speaker 1: to just to put it all on words, just to
- 39:10Speaker 1: tell him, I am I'm appaulled that that that he's
- 39:14Speaker 1: only given one speech. I mean, I'll hopefully there's no
- 39:17Speaker 1: Academy members listening to this, and I'm not blowing the
- 39:20Speaker 1: press tour, but uh, if there is one out there,
- 39:23Speaker 1: mote stars one, um, there's there's It's just like you,
- 39:27Speaker 1: don't you understand he risked everything for this, like he
- 39:32Speaker 1: would have you remember how fast when Tobey Maguire like
- 39:35Speaker 1: stopped being Spider Man, he just disappeared for the zeitgeist.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Like Bradley Cooper literally did nothing but this movie four
- 39:41Speaker 1: years He's not exaggerating. I watched him. I started in
- 39:44Speaker 1: London with him four years ago. He bet everything on
- 39:48Speaker 1: this movie. He learned to play the guitar. He wrote
- 39:50Speaker 1: black Eyes, the opening song in the movie. He produced it,
- 39:53Speaker 1: he directed it, he willed it into existence. He stayed
- 39:56Speaker 1: in the edit room with Jay Cassy, who got robbed
- 39:58Speaker 1: by not being nominated. And at the end of the
- 40:01Speaker 1: day it's like he's plus whatever five hundred to win
- 40:05Speaker 1: actor and with everything across the board where he's not
- 40:10Speaker 1: favorite and and I'm sorry, like it doesn't think people
- 40:15Speaker 1: who love movies, like people who want more movies like
- 40:18Speaker 1: this to be made in this business, should be voting
- 40:21Speaker 1: for him because nobody really, I think, understands the risk
- 40:24Speaker 1: he took. It's like kind of kind of very rich, handsome,
- 40:27Speaker 1: successful person like really take a risk. Well, everything's relative, right,
- 40:31Speaker 1: like Bradley wasn't risking his life in a war zone.
- 40:35Speaker 1: But he's an artist, and ultimately he's a movie star,
- 40:37Speaker 1: and he's an A list movie star and booking his
- 40:40Speaker 1: last run of movies like that, he would have had
- 40:42Speaker 1: nothing in the can and if a star is born
- 40:44Speaker 1: has been a huge bus he he disappears like early
- 40:48Speaker 1: at the very least, he takes a huge step back
- 40:51Speaker 1: and and it was not obvious people made fun of
- 40:54Speaker 1: the movie until the movie started getting screened. Everyone was like,
- 40:58Speaker 1: oh shit, this is actually great. Let's pretend we always
- 41:00Speaker 1: thought it was great. Like that's so from my perspective,
- 41:03Speaker 1: having seen how hard he personally worked. And I haven't
- 41:06Speaker 1: even gotten into Gaga. It was literally the only person
- 41:09Speaker 1: on earth who could play the role, Like Glenn Close
- 41:12Speaker 1: is a legend, and I mean again, it's been gonna
- 41:14Speaker 1: if you're gonna lose, like she's amazing, and I get it,
- 41:17Speaker 1: like she's unfortunately getting the treatment I think I was
- 41:20Speaker 1: hoping Sam would get. But like, I don't know, man,
- 41:23Speaker 1: I'm just it's it's I now get to how like, uh,
- 41:28Speaker 1: inside locker rooms and sports to turn this rant into
- 41:31Speaker 1: something something resembling with the theme of this podcast. Um there,
- 41:37Speaker 1: I did not scrib that. By the way, I'm sitting
- 41:39Speaker 1: in my car in front of my house and I
- 41:41Speaker 1: just I shouldn't have probably said any of that stuff.
- 41:43Speaker 1: So uh sorry, but the the uh, what the hell
- 41:51Speaker 1: is leaving gonna say? I was gonna say something about, oh,
- 41:55Speaker 1: it's a sports locker room, locker room, So I now
- 41:59Speaker 1: understand too, how like people people like Kevin Durant finally
- 42:03Speaker 1: just freak out in the Breas conference because you know,
- 42:08Speaker 1: they just people make up stories in the media like
- 42:11Speaker 1: they generate that they have to generate this this bludds
- 42:13Speaker 1: constantly to like to keep their jobs and keep people clicking,
- 42:17Speaker 1: and and that's the I think that's the collective. A
- 42:19Speaker 1: d D has kind of descended on this movie where
- 42:23Speaker 1: they won the National Board Review. They won for for actors,
- 42:26Speaker 1: for director, and actress, and then it's like, and you
- 42:30Speaker 1: just I I thought Robby Mallick winning Golden Globe could
- 42:32Speaker 1: be good for us. I thought it was gonna like
- 42:35Speaker 1: set set set us as the underdog and set up
- 42:37Speaker 1: like an argost situation. And it's the exact opposite. It's
- 42:41Speaker 1: just like everybody's just decided, now this is the narrative
- 42:44Speaker 1: we're all gonna buy into. And and it's been really
- 42:47Speaker 1: crazy to watch up those some personal just knowing how
- 42:50Speaker 1: hard everyone worked and the risks everyone took, like shooting
- 42:54Speaker 1: for ten minutes on stage coach and if you don't
- 42:56Speaker 1: get it, you don't have the opening like five minutes
- 42:59Speaker 1: of the movie. Anyway, I'm gonna stop talking now because
- 43:02Speaker 1: I had a lot of coffee. That was the most
- 43:06Speaker 1: passionate thing that's ever been done on this podcast. So
- 43:08Speaker 1: we love it, um can you? But but going through
- 43:12Speaker 1: all of this, now, can you do anything else? Like?
- 43:16Speaker 1: Is it all consuming? From the moment you're nominated until
- 43:19Speaker 1: the moment of the awards ceremony? Is it like a job? Um?
- 43:24Speaker 1: It's way more like a job if I was more famous.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I think for me, it's definitely been There's been a
- 43:30Speaker 1: lot of events and stuff. I'm going to the bath
- 43:32Speaker 1: this last weekend with my wife's cams. I was really
- 43:34Speaker 1: excited about. But she had to make she had to
- 43:36Speaker 1: pump with logistic like breast pumps for her break beating.
- 43:39Speaker 1: It was literally like the logistics of it, we're we're crazy.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Um so it does. It has spelled for for me,
- 43:45Speaker 1: like it's been something every day. Um yeah, you do,
- 43:49Speaker 1: like Doe, there's been interview or stuff like you know,
- 43:52Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. So it doesn't be like a
- 43:55Speaker 1: job and it feels amazing. It's like it's an incredible feeling.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Very Jenkins, like this is the nicest guy in the world.
- 44:02Speaker 1: The first when I went to the Oscars luncheon I
- 44:04Speaker 1: walked in, it was one of those pictures where like
- 44:06Speaker 1: they just kind of rand they set people up and
- 44:08Speaker 1: it's done by an artist or something, and that's like
- 44:11Speaker 1: Adam McKay staying next to me. There's a guy right
- 44:13Speaker 1: over my shoulder and he's handcume over my shoulder. It's
- 44:15Speaker 1: very Jenkins, just like, Hi, I'm very and I was like,
- 44:17Speaker 1: oh my god, I love you know. It's like it's
- 44:19Speaker 1: that kind of stuff left and right. You know, it's
- 44:21Speaker 1: just surreal and you're around these people I have slend
- 44:23Speaker 1: so much respect for and and uh, I've got to
- 44:26Speaker 1: know some of like Kevin Wilmot, who wrote Black Clansmen
- 44:28Speaker 1: with Spike is just like the nicest guy and it's
- 44:31Speaker 1: been super cool man and everybody's it really is. Yeah,
- 44:35Speaker 1: you want to win. Everybody's competitive, I think on some level.
- 44:38Speaker 1: But you know, at the same time, you really do
- 44:40Speaker 1: have to stop and just appreciate that you're here and
- 44:43Speaker 1: then you get to do this for for the next
- 44:45Speaker 1: couple of weeks. All well, final question here before we
- 44:48Speaker 1: let you go, questions you're done? You're done? Yeah, I
- 44:53Speaker 1: feel like by the way, I feel like you gotta
- 44:55Speaker 1: feel free. If you have the time, you can ask
- 44:56Speaker 1: me more questions. I feel like I he probably had
- 44:58Speaker 1: some plan of things you want to ad to me,
- 45:00Speaker 1: and I just and he's just sitting in front of
- 45:03Speaker 1: his house like in the race. Right, that's just rambling.
- 45:06Speaker 1: I'm happy to not be dealing with a baby. Most
- 45:08Speaker 1: important question of the day, um, which oscars? After party?
- 45:12Speaker 1: Will we be attending together? Why are you so? What
- 45:16Speaker 1: you deal? Are you coming out for the weekends? When
- 45:19Speaker 1: you will you you like fly? Are you gonna be
- 45:21Speaker 1: on the red carpet. Will if you get me into
- 45:24Speaker 1: a party, I will be there at the Dayton Time. Appointed.
- 45:28Speaker 1: I thought you said you were coming in the last
- 45:30Speaker 1: five I am going to be in California, so get there,
- 45:32Speaker 1: like yeah, I just said I'm gonna be there. When
- 45:35Speaker 1: are the Oscars two weeks from a week from Sunday?
- 45:41Speaker 1: So I just want to know which party we're going
- 45:43Speaker 1: to so I can plan my attire accordingly. Okay, So
- 45:45Speaker 1: the only the only party I haven't gotten. I've gotten
- 45:48Speaker 1: some invites for parties during the week, um, but I
- 45:51Speaker 1: haven't gotten the night up stuff. I could probably get
- 45:53Speaker 1: you into Warners or I could probably get you into
- 45:56Speaker 1: w I mean, those are the two that I can
- 45:58Speaker 1: I can pull my have a little bit of plate. Okay, alright, good,
- 46:02Speaker 1: then I'll see you out in California. You're not booking
- 46:07Speaker 1: your business trip until you know where you'll be drinking
- 46:09Speaker 1: after you're done working. I just want to plan the
- 46:11Speaker 1: attire accordingly because on the one hand, obviously I'm something
- 46:16Speaker 1: of a trend setter fashion wise, but I don't want
- 46:19Speaker 1: to upstage you. So that's fair, that's fair. I've got
- 46:22Speaker 1: to do it, do it right. What's amazing to me
- 46:25Speaker 1: is like it sounds you're like up all night with
- 46:29Speaker 1: the baby before the announcement, You're driving him to school,
- 46:32Speaker 1: like it's raining outside, your wife is pumping in the
- 46:35Speaker 1: way path to It's like you're not making it sound
- 46:38Speaker 1: all that glamorous. Well, well, I mean yeah, it's I
- 46:44Speaker 1: don't know, man, I'm kind of I have a hard
- 46:47Speaker 1: time just like falling into things. You know, I'm as
- 46:51Speaker 1: my nature as maybe a person at the very least
- 46:54Speaker 1: as a writer, like I tend to observe my own life.
- 46:56Speaker 1: So there is like what we were the pastives in
- 46:59Speaker 1: Kate Middleton, Will walked right by us and I was like,
- 47:02Speaker 1: that's crazy, you know, Like I'm just I'm more, it's more.
- 47:06Speaker 1: I'm just saying I thought about like that for for
- 47:08Speaker 1: ten minutes, and and so you know, there arem you
- 47:11Speaker 1: have moments throughout the course of it. It's like everything
- 47:14Speaker 1: nothing is just one thing. I will say. I remember
- 47:17Speaker 1: the first time I met Bradley was right after the
- 47:19Speaker 1: Sniper Oscars and I said something to him about like
- 47:22Speaker 1: you know, how crazy it must have been, and he
- 47:24Speaker 1: kind of cave me this look like it's whatever. Man.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Like It's like and it's true. Once you go through,
- 47:29Speaker 1: it's like you put on different suits and tuxedos. You go,
- 47:32Speaker 1: everyone's nice to you. It's it's amazing. It's so nice.
- 47:36Speaker 1: You feel like you're It's like going to a wedding
- 47:38Speaker 1: where there's where everyone's the bride and groom. That's how
- 47:40Speaker 1: it feels like. One one uh last last question is
- 47:46Speaker 1: when it comes to Academy voters, do you think that
- 47:50Speaker 1: threats work at all and getting the vote your way?
- 47:52Speaker 1: Because I have said, listen, I'm taking it as an
- 47:55Speaker 1: assumption that you're gonna win because they know that we're
- 47:57Speaker 1: best friends now. So if you don't, they know they're
- 48:00Speaker 1: gonna have to deal with me. But if if either
- 48:02Speaker 1: Bradley Cooper doesn't win for Best Actor or it doesn't
- 48:04Speaker 1: win for Best Picture, I'm gonna write I I'm they're
- 48:07Speaker 1: gonna have problems on their hands, because I'm gonna call him.
- 48:10Speaker 1: So I met. I met Tony McNamara, who wrote The Favorite,
- 48:14Speaker 1: and I love The Favorite and it's weird and awesome.
- 48:16Speaker 1: And I told Tony and I said, that's the first
- 48:18Speaker 1: thing I could think to say. The first I was like, look, man,
- 48:21Speaker 1: that's a movie. I'm happy to lose to you know
- 48:23Speaker 1: what I mean, Like, there's the thing that I'm with you, Jack,
- 48:27Speaker 1: Please don't murder anyone. I don't think no, I think.
- 48:29Speaker 1: I think Harvey Weinstein will tell you that that dirty
- 48:32Speaker 1: tricks don't. Yeah, I tell you what, man, you do
- 48:38Speaker 1: see the way like everyone's trying to shift the narrative
- 48:42Speaker 1: and and it's amazing to me how movies just like
- 48:45Speaker 1: the Beamy Rapsy thing is. It's remarkable. I mean, I
- 48:48Speaker 1: don't understand. It's again, it's one thing to lose to
- 48:51Speaker 1: the favorite, it's another thing to lose you, you know,
- 48:56Speaker 1: I would say a more of a well, I'll say
- 48:59Speaker 1: it's the movie sucked. It was an awful movie, all right,
- 49:03Speaker 1: Rommy Rommy Malick was was good in his role, but
- 49:07Speaker 1: the movie sucked. Okay, it was awful. Also, let's just
- 49:12Speaker 1: look at this realistically. If you're comparing A Star Is
- 49:15Speaker 1: Born in Bohemian Rhapsody, they're both movies that involve musical
- 49:19Speaker 1: performances and actors kind of getting into that role. How
- 49:23Speaker 1: in God's name can you say Bohemian Rhapsody was a
- 49:26Speaker 1: better movie in the music genre than A Star Is
- 49:29Speaker 1: Born was. You can't Bradley Cooper made himself into a
- 49:34Speaker 1: Grammy Award winning singer for the goddamn role. It's ridiculous.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Where's Ronny Mollock's Grammy. He doesn't have one because he
- 49:42Speaker 1: stinks gives inside scoop. But my next thing is, I'm
- 49:46Speaker 1: gonna write this movie and it's gonna require Bradley to
- 49:49Speaker 1: um to become a surgeon, To become a hard surgeon
- 49:52Speaker 1: actually performing, you got to go to school and school.
- 49:56Speaker 1: The next couple of years he'll be doing that. And
- 49:58Speaker 1: then when he's done with, day's gonna come out and
- 50:00Speaker 1: they're gonna work in a hospital for a while, and
- 50:01Speaker 1: he's gonna like be around doctors and actually like learn
- 50:04Speaker 1: how to prescribe medicine and like diagnose. And then and
- 50:07Speaker 1: then we're all time. We're dropping in the middle of
- 50:10Speaker 1: like um, like a saving private Ryan situation where it's
- 50:13Speaker 1: like a real war zone, but it won't be that dangerous.
- 50:15Speaker 1: We'll keep a little safe. And then while he's there,
- 50:17Speaker 1: he's gonna have to perform like, you know, basic surgery.
- 50:20Speaker 1: You know, we're gonna come it. And and then he's
- 50:23Speaker 1: gonna lose to George Cooley doing the er in the movie. Listen,
- 50:32Speaker 1: we are super psyched for you. We're glad you're having
- 50:34Speaker 1: all the success. You sound like you're handling it amazing. Well, um,
- 50:38Speaker 1: and I'm excited for Blackjack to go out and celebrate
- 50:40Speaker 1: with you in l A. And Chad, why don't you come.
- 50:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna be in l A. I am gonna be
- 50:45Speaker 1: in l A that week. I'll be out that Wednesday
- 50:49Speaker 1: and three. I have to come back because we have
- 50:50Speaker 1: Hamilton's tickets that Sunday, You son of a bitch, you
- 50:53Speaker 1: little chicken shit Hamilton. Have you seen Hamilton's That's Sunday.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I have seen it. That's Sunday is my wife's birthday,
- 51:01Speaker 1: and we bought Hamilton tickets to go see it on
- 51:03Speaker 1: her birthday and we're taking our kids. Trust me, she'd
- 51:05Speaker 1: rather you be in California. They all would rather you
- 51:07Speaker 1: be in California. But I'm coming out that week. I'm
- 51:10Speaker 1: gonna be out that Wednesday and Thursday. Maybe we can
- 51:12Speaker 1: all get together. Yeah, maybe we should get You know
- 51:16Speaker 1: what's amazing is that I'm so happy that because it's
- 51:19Speaker 1: the perfect button from the crazy rich Agents thing right
- 51:23Speaker 1: exactly from the last time we Still I still have
- 51:28Speaker 1: not seen the movie. It's won more words than my movie.
- 51:32Speaker 1: But that's let's listen. You gotta see that movie. You're
- 51:36Speaker 1: gonna you're gonna listen. You know I cried at Star
- 51:39Speaker 1: Wars Born. You gotta see Crazy with Chasing because I
- 51:41Speaker 1: cried at that one too. Somebody else said, yes, said that.
- 51:46Speaker 1: There you go. I really thought you were messing around.
- 51:51Speaker 1: It's a look. You can't if you have feelings, then
- 51:53Speaker 1: you can't help but cry. Well, listen to if you're
- 51:57Speaker 1: when you're out, Let's let's try to get dinner something
- 51:59Speaker 1: black Jack. I will do my best neatored party. If
- 52:01Speaker 1: I do get you in the party, Please don't like
- 52:03Speaker 1: attack Robby Mallick or anything, because they will trace back
- 52:06Speaker 1: to where to how you got in. Will I promise
- 52:09Speaker 1: I will make you proud. I'll make you proud. Well,
- 52:14Speaker 1: you're gonna steal his oscar and give it maybe, actually
- 52:22Speaker 1: you can do that. That'd be funny. Now. You know
- 52:23Speaker 1: what I would do is I'm gonna come prepared with
- 52:25Speaker 1: my own trophy to give to Bradley Cooper. It's going
- 52:29Speaker 1: to be the Blackjack Award for Best Actor. You're not
- 52:32Speaker 1: getting close to Bradley Cooper. There's no way. Let me
- 52:35Speaker 1: tell you something. By the end of that weekend, Bradley
