Transcript
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Welcome in everybody to the Talk and Tech Podcast.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: My name is Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: And Tristan, is this the worst week of tech sports in recent memories?
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: The worst week of my life.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: We're back too, by the way.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Sorry for not recording last week.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: As a lot of people in Texas were uh experiencing power outages, all this sort of stuff.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Um uh Tristan here in Austin was uh on and off power, so we thought we would just you know skip it.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Excuse me, don't insult me by saying I live in Austin, okay?
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Okay, you live in North Austin, in the Austin area.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Oh my bad.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: But yeah, the right now I'm dealing with two different things.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: One, the it's beautiful weather again.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: So, you know, we the classic Texas freeze our bahookies off, and now we're now we're in uh beautiful weather here in uh what's gonna be our uh two-week long spring, of course, and before it gets sweldering hot.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: But here I am also dealing with the sadness that is tech sports.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: I don't know, I got a lot of emotions.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: I need to talk about it, so I'm gonna vent the treasure listeners.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: We're gonna vent today because we're we're normally about the positivity, and we will be positive about some things this episode, but there's a lot that went wrong and a lot to be disappointed in with both uh basketball and baseball.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, we'll get into those, but I I think honestly, this is one of the most disappointing weeks I've I've experienced as a Texas Tech fan since we both came in in 2014 to our freshman year there.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Um, and and it's it's not because the teams lost every game that they could have in basketball and baseball, it's because good teams lost every game they could have.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, teams that we have high expectations for in terms of basketball and baseball, and to go 0-5 in since the weekend is is just heartbreaking.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think you put it perfectly.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: It was just nothing but a bummer all week.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And especially I was really excited for the start of baseball, even though you can't really watch it with all these weird streaming services that we're not gonna pay for.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Um uh it was just a bummer to you know to get the live beat of it and just see us the roller coaster was starting up and then going down.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And like a program we expect so much from to just start out the weekend like it did is a bummer.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: But I gotta say, it's it's just it's opening weekend with the baseball.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: No one touched the panic button.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: We they lost to really, really, really good teams.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: So it does kind of sting that it was all SEC, of course.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: That's the worst possible scenario, unless maybe it's like AM, UT, and Baylor.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Oh god, that would be that would be that would be the worst scenario.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: That would be the worst week of my life without question.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Um but basketball is the real bummer because baseball still has plenty of time to get on their feet and get going because it's a long road to Omaha.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: So man, I I know that we have a lot to talk about with that.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: So let's just yeah, well, indeed, uh yeah, we'll we'll we'll hold off for a second because we did have some positive with the uh with the not so talked about sports.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're still big Ludwig guys, and we remain big Ludwig guys.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Uh Ludwig.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Huge guys.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Ludwig Aberg shoots minus four at the prestige at PGA West to tie for first and win his first collegiate title.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: Tristan, we're big Ludwig guys.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: We're enormous Ludwig guys.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: I gotta say, this is the single greatest Swede to ever be born, and there's really it's not even close.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I couldn't name one better Swede, could you?
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Uh, the only Swede that comes to mind otherwise is Swedish fish, and it's an overrated candy.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Um, it's just cherry.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but anyway, I digress.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: He's the huh?
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: It's waxy.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: It's it's a little chewy.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: It's a little chewy, not not for me.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: There's no one that's just gonna be saying, hey, let's get some Swedish fish.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, no, no one's no one's saying, Hey, pass me a fish.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: No, but we're big Ludwig guys.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: He's the best Swede, best golfer, uh, and he wins again.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: He's he continues his uh reign as one of the best amateurs in the world.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: The Swedish roots at Texas Tech run deep.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: What more can we say?
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: That's it, baby.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: So, what more can we say, though, is that we have some more positive news.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Vivian Gray, Big 12 player of the week for Texas Tech Women's Basketball.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: She scored a career high 38 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the victory overtime over Kansas.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Shout out to Vivian Gray, she's been awesome all year.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, without question, she's just been a total baller, undoubtedly the best player on the team.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, so glad that we were able to pick her up.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Um, and it's just really great because it looks like this this program is gonna be trending in the right direction going forward.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: So, you know, it's it's it's year one under a new regime, and I really like the way it's looking.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: And uh she's just kind of a result of that change.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt, for sure.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: So uh we'll go on to a few more of these before we get into basketball and football.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Or well, we'll talk about football too, but basketball, baseball.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Um, Texas Tech women's tennis moved to six and one with a win over New Mexico, men's tennis move up to three and two with a win over Wichita State.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: So shouts out tennis right here, doing some good things, doing some good things.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Track and field, men remain number seven in the nation.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Women are number 10 in the nation, and big time weekend for those uh those men and women because we have the Big 12 indoor championships taking place February 26th and 27th.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: It will be broadcasted on ESPN Plus.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: So if you have the time on those two days, maybe you want to just take a load off uh from work, take a break, go watch our uh go watch our Texas Tech uh track and field work.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: So essentially the the the pride and joy of Texas Tech right now is Ludwig.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's track and field.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Ludwig and track and field, basically.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: That those are the only sports that matter.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: The only sports that matter are the ones that our tech that tech is good at right now.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: So they make the cut.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: So I'm very proud of being elite in those most important collegiate sports.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: And you know what makes the cut and what makes the best sport currently at Texas Tech is softball because they beat the Texas AM Aggies, they beat Colorado State twice, and they go three and two overall in the Texas AM invitational.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: But we beat the Aggies in a sport.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Very happy that we went to their house and did so.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: That's yes, we did.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Thank you, thank you, softball, for removing the pain that your counterpart baseball put us through.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: So really appreciate that.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: We take any dub over the aggs, so it's always good to remind them what's going on in West Texas.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: So shouts out, softball.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Way to way to go, girls.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: So you want to talk about you want to talk about basketball or you want to talk about baseball?
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: We gotta start with baseball because I know you, the basketball man, has something loaded.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: I haven't heard any of it yet.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: So I'm looking forward to just seeing you unleash on that.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: So let's go ahead and discuss baseball because I don't think it's quite as uh you know bummery.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: So we go 0-3 in the state farm showdown, lose games against Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State, all of which are in the top five in the new uh in the new poll this week.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: So, you know, you take you take these losses with a grain of salt because these teams are very good.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: We uh had some major issues that we need to clean up.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Um, we I think we're now number 10 uh after being 0-3 this weekend.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Um, but man, I think you got to start uh starting with Arkansas.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Uh our freshman pitchers, our relievers were not good.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: Um, it it was and and you and me couldn't watch because of the whole flow sports thing.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, that was ridiculous.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: It's it's stupid that this whole thing wasn't broadcast on any network uh besides this one they had to pay$30 for it was top 10 matchups.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, these were great games, plus or something, you know.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: So before we go further, I just want to give a huge shout out to the Red Raider fans that showed up.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: It was a pretty so y'all are the best, but we have the best fans.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: Going over there in uh in Arlington at Globelife Park.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Gotta keep yeah, uh it's park, right?
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: The new one.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: We gotta believe it's field.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: No, it's field.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'm not quite sure.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: It's it's Globe Life Field.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: That's the new one.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: The old one was park.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: My big gotta maintain and defend that stake that is VFW for us.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: So very proud of the Red Raiders that showed out, and uh, especially during the COVID, whenever everything's still kind of weird with uh restrictions on crowds.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: So uh it's awesome that they got to go watch them live.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: There's gonna be a lot more of that.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Uh we have five straight games in Lubbock coming up, but but back to Arkansas.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Uh it was tight, and and all these games really were tight the whole weekend going into the final frame.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Maybe not Ole Miss a little bit, but uh Arkansas definitely uh Tech was up 9-8, and we blew it in the ninth.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Uh uh freshman reliever Andrew Devine gave up five runs.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then tech would eventually lose 13 to 9.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Um, and and again, these they're these freshman pitchers.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, Levi Wells didn't didn't have a good showing either.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: Um, and and Ryan Sublett, who's a junior, uh, had a poor outing as well against Arkansas pitching wise.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Um, Patrick Monteverdi had a great start.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, all of our starting pitchers in all three of these games had great starts.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Um, but just just our relievers, man.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: They were they were not good.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: So you what you're saying is really the age, really show it.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Talk about a freaking opening.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Oh, no doubt.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Kids for these teenagers.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: You know, you're going from high school ball to P5 top level college baseball day one, and you're playing up against the very best talent in the country against the other team, too.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: So it's you can kind of rest easy with that, you know, you can cut them some slack.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Like these these guys are kids, you know.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: So they're still green.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: So you hopefully expect that they can only go up from there.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: So I I I have faith that obviously that uh we can develop the the pitching because it obviously the starter can't go the whole game.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: That's obviously the point of the re-release pitcher.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: So you gotta have some backup, but um disappointing, but I think that's obviously something to look forward to.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: And there was also some errors in fielding with some of the older guys, uh, especially in that old miss game.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: We didn't convert.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: We had some uh we had some balks as well.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: Uh just you know, a few errors here or there, but uh lost five-four against Ole Miss after giving up.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, and and really in all three of these games, we gave up huge innings.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, four, four, or five, I think five in the ninth against Arkansas, five in the third against Ole Miss, and then another, I think, five insurance runs in the ninth inning for Mississippi State to just take over against us.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: So, um, yeah, I mean, we're we're just gonna repeat it.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's a disappointing start for Texas Tech baseball, but it's definitely not the end of anything.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're still ranked very high, and people still have a very high opinion of our baseball team, even after we lost to these three SEC teams.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, moving forward, it's not the start you want, but it's not it's also not the worst thing in the world.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: Hey, if if it's if you're gonna have those rough games to polish off the edges, it better be early.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Because I'd rather us come uh come back in Omaha and be full force and be able to, you know, to not worry about any of that anymore.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: So I'm glad that perhaps we're seeing our flaws now.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: They can be corrected as we go into these weak, weaker games at home, you know, so we can actually get back to what we expect.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Because we got a long, we obviously have a long conference slate ahead of us as well.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: And I think we're uh obviously a favorite to win it.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: And obviously, that's a huge ad to the trophy case, and it's still very much in the sights of this team.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: So I have no fear.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: Do not press that panic button, do not get down on this team yet because it's just opening weekend.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: And we're gonna get some more experience this coming weekend.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: We play a series against Houston Baptists on Friday, uh, Saturday, and Sunday, and then we play a series against Texas Southern, all of this being at Rip Griffin Park in Lubbock.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: So hopefully this gets our guys back in the right direction and uh get some dubs on the board, man.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Man, I miss that beautiful ballpark.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: So obviously, uh fill up that place if y'all can.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: We're looking forward to uh watching any game that's available.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: And uh hey Kelly let's let's bounce back this weekend.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: For sure, for sure.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Let's do it.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: So, do you want to get into it?
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: You want to get into the most disappointing team on Texas Tech campus as of right now?
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: I cannot believe that you're saying that sentence before we're talking about basketball.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: But I know, I know.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: You'd think, I mean, football was very disappointing, uh, but but but this basketball team, we actually had like expectations for, and I know that we had the issues with the postponements due to weather and you know a bunch of other things, and we're coming off a week and a half of not playing and going into Allen Fieldhouse uh playing at the fog.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's it's tough to do, but we lose to Kansas and we also lose at Oklahoma State in overtime this week.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: And uh both games we should have won.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're better than both of these teams, uh, in my opinion, but uh there's just major, major concerns that you don't want to see at this point in the year both losses resulted in this week.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: I think we're clearly better than it's just it's it's really it's really a bummer.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: And I I don't know what is going on with uh you know with like the offense and so many other issues with the thing.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: So I'm ready to hear what you have to say because I know you have a lot of obviously your basketball and things are ready to just unleash.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: I'm ready.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: This is my rant.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: So Mac McClung being our go-to guy makes our ceiling lower.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: It just does.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: The our play style on offense is not good and does not lead to winning basketball.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: His playmaking is not good enough for how much this man has the ball in his hand.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: It just isn't.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: There's uh these teams are starting to figure him out.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: And you saw with Kansas, you saw with Oklahoma State, they're double teaming him as soon as he drives in the lane.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: He's not getting easy shots, and he's still looking for his shot first, and it's not good.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: What he needs to do is start driving, kick out, look for the open man.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: He does, he needs to stop looking for his own shot so much because teams have figured him out, and he's just not.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, credit to Mac McClung.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: He's a great player, he has overcome a lot of odds, but he's just not the same guy as a Jared Butler, as a Cade Cunningham, as a A.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: U Dunsumu.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: It's he's not that good of a player.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: He's not Naismith level player of the year, you know, not a guy that you should run your entire offense through.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: And we saw it in the final minutes of these, and uh these decisions that Chris Beard is giving, just giving the reins to Mac McClung to shoot at the end of the game, is just not working.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: He's not making plays.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: And yeah, he's made some plays like against UT.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's had a like he's had some moments this year, but those two shots that he put up in the Oklahoma State game to try to tie the game were just brutal.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: And the game, what was the game plan?
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: The game plan was give it to Mac and let him do something.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: And that's not good.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: There were no screens set for him, there's no off-ball movement going on.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: It's basically just give the ball to Mac and let's see what happens.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: But uh besides Mac, I he's not the worst part of this team, obviously.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: He's he's one of the best players that we have.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Uh but hit giving him the ball and letting him work doesn't work with our team because of our lack of shooters as well.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Terrence Shannon, Kevin McCullough, Jamearius Burton, and Micah PV are not reliable spot-up three-point shooters.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: And for a guy that drives so much and looks for the kick out, that we don't have it.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: We don't, I mean, Kyler Edwards is a reliable spot-up shooter, but he refuses to shoot them.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: He does not shoot them when he's open.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: He looks he's too hesitant with his jump shot.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: He I'm disappointed with Kyler Edwards.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: He he's a great facilitator and he does a lot of little things.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: He plays great defense and he does all sorts of stuff that you don't really see on the stat sheet.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: But offensively, these five-point, three point, two-point games for him are not good, and he needs to contribute with this sort of thing.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: It can't just be Mac and Shannon, and then everybody else scores 10, 15 points out of the game.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, I'm still trying to figure out Micah Peavy's role on this team.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: What does he do?
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Is he just an extra hustle rebound player?
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: Because half the time it just seems like he's just setting screens for nobody and running around trying to do something.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: He I'm his basketball IQ is not there yet.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: Obviously, he's a freshman, he's 18, 19 years old still.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: But why does he get so many minutes when he's he doesn't know what to do out there?
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, luckily his jump shot came to him in that Oklahoma State game, but he has not been a reliable shooter.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: He kind of he's wild, he's crazy, he swipes too much, and that's another thing.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: The fouls have to stop.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: McCullough, Marcus Santosilva, PV all commit at least two stupid fouls a game against each and every team.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: The aggressiveness is good, but it's used in swipes and out-of-control body contact way too often.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: And that's just it, it's not good for the team.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: It only hurts us because we're sending guys to the line way too often.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: And I know the refs are a big complaint for a lot of guys.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: A lot of fans are upset with how the refs have been refing Texas Tech, and that's true, but we're also fouling way too much.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, they see Oklahoma State shoots, goes to the line 32 times, West Virginia goes to the line 39 times.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: A lot of those fouls are because they're true fouls.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're not getting screwed on a lot of these things.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Now, us not going to the line enough, that could be something that the refs have to work on.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: That could also be something for our aggressiveness.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: I've seen way too many times where Marcus Santosilva is in the post.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: He's constantly trying to avoid contact down low.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: And it's kind of laughable.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, dude, go up, go up strong and get fouled and go to the free throw line.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: We we've seen so many different times, so many different like ESPN little snippets where they're bringing the basket to the hotels and he's working on his free throws or he's staying after the game and working on his free throws.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: He gets to line two times, maybe three times a game.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: That's not good enough.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: You cannot do that.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: And I mean, for a big guy who's who's a physical player, he doesn't get to line enough.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: And neither does Micah Peavy, and neither does Kevin McCullough, and neither does anybody except for Terrence Shannon and Mac McClung.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: So we need these other guys to kind of have a Montrez-Harrow mentality of just going up and being strong with it and getting fouled and getting some of these big guys in foul trouble.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: Um, and it it's hurting to see.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: And I'm I'm super upset with a lot of what this team is bringing to the table offensively.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: Defensively, I think we're okay um on a lot of these possessions, but uh uh offensively is is just heartbreaking to see.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna even try to uh follow up your rant like that.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, I obviously hit all the nails on the head there.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: I what I what I can say from like maybe as I mentioned, is it's really frustrating to watch us thing in these games.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Well, and we all knew this was gonna happen.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: We we saw we know Baylor is the top dog of the Big 12 right now, but there was a time where UT, Kansas, Texas Tech, OU, West Virginia, Oklahoma State.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: It was like, okay, which one one of those teams or two or three of those teams are gonna fall?
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: And it looks like Texas Tech is one of those because being swept by Kansas, being swept by West Virginia, and being swept by Oklahoma State, it's just not good.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: And we haven't responded well in the second game of the series to the to any of these programs.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: I know, yeah, and yeah, it was a good sweep.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: Oh OU's a very good team.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: I think they're sitting at like number seven or eight in the nation right now, but it's just it's just so disappointing with how Chris Beard has decided to run this team uh and run their offense.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, there was such a difference with that 2019 team, and I and I know this isn't the same, but today, because I'm such a weird sports guy, I was re-watching the 2014 NBA finals with the Spurs.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: And why I watched game three, where we I that was some of the most beautiful basketball I've ever seen.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: If you have if you're a basketball fan of any kind, go watch game three, the first quarter in the second quarter of that game three.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: And that's how basketball needs to be played.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: It's it's a bunch of unselfish guys that are looking not just for your own shot, but for the best shot on the court.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: Whether that's and and you know, the thing about that team was they still had Kawhi Land.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Leonard, who was up and coming at the time, but still was a great and probably the best one-on-one player on that team.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: And he still had his moments.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: So, you know, Matt can still have his moments, but the majority of the game needs to be run through the team and everybody moving around and constantly doing something and not just standing in the corner, not just setting a screen for nobody.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, do it set screens that mean something and you know, drive to the basket, make good cuts inside, find the guy.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: You know, we've had plenty of times that Shannon pass at the end of the Oklahoma State game to tie the game and force overtime, unbelievable play.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: We need more of that.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: Instead of just looking for your own shot, find the better shot.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: There were three guys that were open underneath, and he made the correct read, and we just don't see enough of that with this team.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: That's a very interesting point.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Uh it's it's been it's been interesting to watch how Chris Beard's team has changed as his star power has increased.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I always thought, you know, I'm I'm sure it's still expected that the Texas Attack Christopher team is a very player team.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: I mean team-oriented one player show, if you know what I'm trying to say.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, yeah, we had Jared Culver, but the guy was not a star at I like idle.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: The guy was not being hyped up on his video.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: It's been interesting to see uh the shift now that we can be in the entire town.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: And the things that resulted in the point of the season compared to the one where we didn't have any true stars except for maybe Culver, if you want to consider that.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Well, he was and Culver was a star, but what but really makes a star player is making your teammates better.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: And Mac doesn't make a lot of his teammates better.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: And that's in, you know, I I don't want to turn this into an anti-Mac thing.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: I really don't because I like Mac McClung and I like what he I like his game, the mackerel.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: He's growing, he's awesome, he's had some great moments for us.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: But you know, there's times where he just gets ahead of steam and and he's just all about himself, and it's you know, set a screen for Mac and he's gonna shoot.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: And and it's there's times where I want him to pass more, I want him to facilitate more.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: Kyler Edwards has honestly been the better facilitator for this team.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: I like to see the ball in his hand more, just because he looks for the right reads and he looks for guys to score.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: I I wish he was more aggressive in shooting the ball sometimes.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: It's like take Kyler Edwards and take Mac McClung and combine them, and you got a great freaking player.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: So uh it's just it, you know, and and it it's hard not to be negative when you've seen when you've lost three in a row against teams that you probably should have beaten, uh, and to be swept by all three of these teams is just it's it's disappointing.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: It really is.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Um we didn't really do the game of coming with such high hopes that it really stays.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: But I mean if we're gonna talk about one dang positive about the game, our boy, the cowboy Avery Benson got back on the floor.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: He did, and he gets a lot of hate from fans.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: They and and I get it to a point, I don't get the hate for Benson.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: I get the hate for him taking others' minutes.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: Uh like guys like Nadolny who got the technical foul against Oklahoma State and beard pulled him for the rest of the game.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: I don't agree with that move, but I also, you know, kind of understand not to be not to get too emotional and you know, a technical foul can swing the momentum like it did.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: But um uh, you know, for Nadolny and Agbo and some of these other guys that aren't getting the minutes that they probably should, uh, I can understand being upset when Avery Benson comes in for one of those guys.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: But I absolutely love what Avery Benson brings to the team, which is just physical.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: He's tough, he's smart at low-key, like super smart on the floor, draws a lot of charges, makes makes good plays for this team.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: And honestly, I'd like to see him in the ballgame more.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you no, no argument there.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: And he just he's uh he's a reminder of what was a couple years ago.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: So it's it's it's always great to see him out there.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he made a lot of good plays in this game.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, that charge at the end of the Oklahoma State game that was called the block, it was it was a charge.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: He made that great play, he made a great play.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: The ref made a bad call.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: He did have one bad play in this game where he should have given it up to Shannon after he got that steal.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: But again, that's one bad play.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, he did.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: I was watching him the entire time he was on the court because I'm I'm frustrated with the people that don't like him.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, and I want to see, I want to make sure he doesn't screw up.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: And he really only screwed up the one time.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, I I'd like to see him in more.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Chris Beard likes him, uh, and he's he's just a guy that brings physicality and toughness to this team uh that we otherwise wouldn't get with some of the other guys.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: I wish I I saw more of him and everybody else, you know.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: So uh, but let's stop.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Let's stop with the negativity.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Basketball still has some uh it's still positive.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: We're still in a pretty good position uh to make a an upper seed in the tournament.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: I think if I were to guess right now, we'd probably by the end of the year, depending on how the UT and the Baylor game goes, uh and the Big 12 tournament, we'll probably be a six, maybe seven seed uh in the tournament.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: So that's still solid.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: You know, you're still gonna uh uh it's kind of luck of the draw at that point on who you get uh in your in your bracket.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: But uh we're still gonna be a tournament team.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: We're not like we're not like not gonna make the tournament or anything, but uh we're definitely on a downswing right now, and uh we need to get it cleaned up.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: But give us those bad Big 12 teams, please.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, please.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: And we did, we finally got some rescheduling news.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're playing UT this Saturday.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: That was originally supposed to be the last game of the regular season, but because of these cancellations and postponements, we are now playing TCU on March 2nd.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: We are playing Iowa State on March 4th, and then Baylor, I believe, on March 7th.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: So uh all three of those four games are at home.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: The UT game, the TCU game, and the Iowa State game all at home.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: And then we end off the regular season uh with Baylor and Waco.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Obviously a tough challenge, but you know, uh I think we go three and one or two and two in that stretch, we're gonna be just fine.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: Um, but we can't drop these Iowa State or TCU games, I can tell you that, man.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: We gotta use them as a springboard, we gotta get back in shape, especially now going to the big call tournament, and obviously the big show.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: So it's a it's a bad time in the season to be on but to be low.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: But uh, hopefully we can turn it back around.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: And obviously, I'm not gonna disagree on the first week in the tournament.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: So yeah, looking forward to see how these guys react.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is I mean, this is a big uh a big uh moment for this team.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: See how they see how they react.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: So let's go with some positive news because we got a quarterback commit to Texas Tech.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: Are you committing positivity in football right now?
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: I'm connecting that's the only thing I can be positive about right now.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: And it's football.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, unbelievable.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: Tyler Shuck, the Oregon, uh former Oregon quarterback, has committed to play at Texas Tech in he's grad transferring and he's gonna have three years of eligibility left.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Um, started all seven games for the ducks in 2020.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: Um, there's kind of an there's kind of some good stuff about this kid, man.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was a former four-star recruit.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: He uh it was the obvious starter last season.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: He backed up Justin Herbert at Oregon.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's big time, man.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: I think it's a great.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: I think we kind of have our what's probably gonna be our QB1 if I'm going off my gut.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: So he's got a whole season of P5 play under his belt, and he's coming in in a very high, you know, uh probably an offense that runs kind of similar to ours.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: So I'm looking forward to seeing uh what Sunny Sonny Cumby can do with him, and I really hope that Sonny Cumby has the keys to do so.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: I kind of hope Matt Wells is gonna let him do that.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: And I what I really like about this guy compared to like Alan Bowman is he's got legs.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I'm really looking forward forward to a guy that can make a play out of nothing, you know, whether it's with his his legs or finding an open man down the field while he's running, kind of like a Patrick Mahomes sort of move.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: So I that's what I'm looking for, you know, because uh Alan Bowman was not built for that.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: That's why he did a lot of the checking outs, and uh it just resulted to very little yards down the field.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: So I'm looking for a guy that can make plays because that's what we're missing right now.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: He's definitely a dual threat kind of guy.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: I think Matt Wells really likes dual threat quarterbacks.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, you talk about some of his past quarterbacks and Jordan Love and even Henry Columbi, who played last year.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: You could tell Matt Wells really liked Columbi.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, came in and started a few games after Bowman uh either got hurt or and he stayed the starter.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: So he likes guys that can move on the run.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: He obviously recruited Baron Morton, who's a dual threat quarterback, and he's also got this guy now, Tyler Shuck, who is a dual threat guy, ran a lot in college.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Um he by the way, Oregon won the Pac-12 last year.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: Uh definitely a weird year, COVID year.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: They only played seven games, and Washington was technically first in that division, but they had COVID issues.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: So Oregon went to the Pac-12 championship and beat USC, uh, and then they lost to Iowa State in the uh Fiesta Bowl 34 to 17.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: But Shuck was pulled that game.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm I'm kind of getting I did some research on him on Oregon blogs because I want to see kind of a fan's perspective on what they were thinking of this guy.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: And he definitely the consensus is kind of he regressed as the season went on.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: So not great, uh, but also what factored into that was the the coaching didn't necessarily make a lot of good moves.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: They had a grad transfer quarterback in Anthony Brown, who was at Oregon last year.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: And after two straight losses, Shuck was kind of uh he was kind of rambled a little bit in the head uh mentally, and they and they played him kind of like Matt Wells played towards the end of the season with Bowman and Columbia, kind of playing both or going into the game playing both, and that's just not a good idea.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: It's never a good idea for the quarterback who got benched his confidence, even the new kid coming in, and then he gets back.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: It's just not a good move, really, in any way.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: And they still manage to win the Pac-12.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: So um a lot of things went into it.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: I I I think he's kind of Alan Bowman-esque.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's a guy that struggles a little uh uh in his head, you know, he can let stuff get to him.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: Um, but you know, you get in the right situation, you get with the right group of guys, you see a change of scenery.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, I think you could be really good.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, man.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: And if he's a gunslinger, he came to the right place.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: So that's it's Texas Tech has kind of built that brand.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: I'm wondering, I'm wondering if the Patrick Mahomes aura was used at all to uh pitch to him, you know.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: I on our side though, our fan reaction, um, I've seen people kind of concerned about the Baron Morton status.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: I don't think there's anything to worry about that.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Um I people need to realize, like, and you've you've reminded me of this of this over and over again.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: And I I I I absolutely agree is Baron Morton's he's he's a high school kid.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: He just yeah, he's a freshman.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: He's a freshman, he's green.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: The kid has never seen a college gridiron in his life, you know, and so there's some growing to do.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and um I think it'd be great if we had a vet going in first and letting Barry Morton either redshirt or learn under him and obviously develop.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: Well, and even I'll take it a step further.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: I like Baron Morton as a as a recruit.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: I think he could be something.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: We have not seen him play college yet.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: We don't know how good this kid is going to be.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: Why not bring in a guy who has started at the power five level and potentially gonna start for you next season?
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, throwing Baron Morton into the fire is it could be good, it could be bad.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, we don't know how good this kid's gonna be.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: So why not bring this guy who has some years of eligibility?
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: This Tyler Shuck guy could be awesome and he could be our quarterback of the future.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, we don't I I I like Baron Morton, but I'm not I'm also not gonna discount that this guy could be a future three-year player for Texas Tech.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, if if that means Baron Morton transfers in the future, that's not uh I mean, that's not awful to me.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: If if Barron Morton decides to transfer because this guy's really good, that's not a bad thing.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: So uh I think we're taking too much into account that Baron Morton is a good recruit, uh, versus you know who's actually gonna show up on the field.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: And I, you know, if you're talking to me right now, I think Morton is probably gonna red shirt with this kid coming in, and that could be good for him.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: You know, learn taking a year to learn, uh, you know, being around the program for a year, it's not gonna hurt.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: The kid's 18.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, he's got time.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: So um I'm I'm just worried.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: I'm not worried.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: I'm just wondering how this quarterback room is gonna fit is gonna pan out because we have five guys in there right now that all have been kind of mentioned in this could potentially start role for this team next season.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: And you gotta you gotta think one of one or two of them are gonna be gone by the time you know training camp or by the time uh the season actually starts.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: We're gonna go through spring ball and see you know who gets the majority of snaps and everything.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: But right now, I think your number one and number two guys that are probably gonna transfer out are gonna be Maverick McIver or Donovan Smith.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: I think both of those guys, those are the odd men out right now.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: So uh we'll and we'll obviously we'll see how you know Henry Columbi, what he decides to do in his you know lat final years of college and uh you know Tyler Shuck and what uh he just committed to the program.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: So obviously, you know, he's not gonna be out.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: But uh and Baron Moore's a freshman.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: So uh I think it's super interesting to see uh how this quarterback room pans out.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: I agree fully with with everything you said.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: Um, I think fans need to remember at the end of the day, you want to play the QB that wins you games, yeah so and the best quarterback will show out.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: I I trust that the coaching staff will play the best quarterback, the one that's gonna put you in the position to win.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I I that I I as a fan would rather see that no matter who it is.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: I want to see wins.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: That's what I want to see.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't want to see just missing.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: I don't want to see Barron Morton out there and then us lose three games, like you know, it or us win only three games, you know.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: Uh I just want to see some wins on the board, and I think this guy uh has a great chance to uh to potentially be our starter for the future.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: And trust that Barron wouldn't just give up and bail.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: Like yeah, if the hit's a competitor, he'll compete for it.
- 36:11SPEAKER_00: So don't even worry, we don't even worry about it.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: Competition's good.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: This is sports, that's the entire point.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: So um I'm really excited about it.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: I think Matt Wells has done a really good job of utilizing the transfer portal.
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: Uh, we've seen some real studs come out of that with Matt Wells.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: So I I'm really and you even you stated on uh on a private conversation that you said that this is perhaps the high highest touted QB transfer in the portal right now.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: So I'm really excited about it.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: At the time, I think he was probably the the guy that was you know sought out for.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: And something to feel really good about is the Oklahoma Sooners have done quite well with transfer quarterbacks in this league.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: So, and and this guy is obviously I'm pretty much on the same level as say a Kyler Murray on like star power-wise.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: Obviously, those guys were like five stars, but it's not like four is a big drop-off.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: So it's it's something to feel good about.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: And he's got a lot of strengths, man.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: He's got a big arm, he can boost that thing downfield.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: He's accurate.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, Oregon was like, I think 11th in all of college football in um average passing attempt yardage-wise.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, they averaged about nine yards a throw last year.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: So he's so bad.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so he can throw and he's accurate.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, he completed nearly 64% of his passes last year.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, the weaknesses, it's kind of like Bowman, man, untimely turnovers.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, he had costly turnovers in the fourth quarters of both the Cal and Oregon State games last year where that they lost.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: And uh that's what kind of you know put a lot of people off, a lot of Oregon fans off of him because he committed some some costly turnovers.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: But uh, like I said, you know, it new change of scenery can really change a kid's mental state.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: And I think the same thing is gonna happen with Alan Bowman.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: I think Alan Bowman's gonna transfer somewhere, and I think he's gonna do really well.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: So uh I, you know, I'm excited for this kid.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: I'm excited to see, like you said, what what Sonny Cumby does with this program and with these quarterbacks.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, obviously getting a former awesome Texas Tech quarterback is is not a bad deal.
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: So um I'm excited, man.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: I'm really excited for this kid.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: I'm right there with you.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: And to top off what you were saying is it they're these guys are gonna be a year older and they're gonna have uh that much more time on the field, on the practice field, um, and working with uh the offense.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: So it just because they were bad in their earlier years doesn't mean they don't get better.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: You only hope they only get better.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm excited to see where these guys land.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think there's actually something to look forward to this football season because I think it'll look a lot different.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: So we actually we got some veterans.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: Shake up.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, we got some veterans on this team, man.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, you talk with all the defensive returners, plus guys like Sir Rodrick, guys like Eric Esakama.
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, we got some returners on this team, and it's exciting uh going in with a lot of veteran uh talent.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: And of course, a a a new offensive scheme about all year.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: So I'm really excited about what the season can become.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: Um, obviously, I'm not saying we win the Big 12, but it's it's about dang time Texas Tech gets back in the upper half of the Big 12.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: So let's for sure.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: So we'll keep up with uh spring training.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: I believe it starts early March or mid-March here.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, we'll be getting some uh some feed from the Texas Tech media that's that's up there in Lubbock uh to see who's getting the majority of snaps.
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: We're gonna start seeing some Matt Wells press conferences, seeing how guys are doing.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: So I'm excited, man.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: I'm uh I'm excited for football season and it's uh bring on the couch.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Bring on the cougs, man.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, I think that's gonna do it uh for the sports talk of this podcast episode.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: But we have something very exciting: a return of Logan's luscious locks.
- 39:47SPEAKER_01: Play the thing.
- 39:49SPEAKER_03: Now it's time for Logan's luscious locks.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: Logan's luscious locks, our buddy Logan.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: We had this segment kind of a few episodes uh earlier on when we first started this podcast.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: He and we're bringing it back.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: He's a big sports gambler, he's our buddy that we went to Texas Tech with.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: Uh and he's a big sports fan.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: He's a big gambler.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: He has this to say for all of you sports gamblers out there.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, he sent this in today to us.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: Man City is too good to lose on Wednesday in Champions League.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: They never lose to anyone, and it's not going to start with Manchin Gladbach.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: Uh they're playing to the big boy trophy, so they're going for the kill.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: Parlay that with Juventus winning on next Tuesday against Porto, and you're in the money.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Juve lost last time, 2-1, so they're gonna go all in if they want to win the series on aggregate goals.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, expecting an easy win from Man City and balls to the wall effort from Juventus.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: Money line parlay for both teams should be around minus 120, so not too juicy.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: So I don't know what any of that means.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: We're not sports gamblers.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: I'm sure the the treasured listeners that do gamble uh would know what that means.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: So if you're a soccer fan, go bet uh Man City and uh Juventus.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Man, it feels really good to hear that tune again.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: But I tell you what, I am uh or that that little our jingle.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: I tell you what, I'm really I really miss playing um Red Rider coming at you.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I do too.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: I do too.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: But we'll get some wins here.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: We're gonna stay positive.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: Baseball's got a long season ahead of them, basketball's getting into the nitty-gritty.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, a crisbeard team isn't just gonna isn't just gonna give up and fold.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: So uh I'm excited, man.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: All right, man.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: Let's go ahead and bring it home.
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: Let's do it.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: Song of the week.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: Go ahead.
- 41:42SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: So, my song of the week, I'm gonna do a throwback.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go back to classic here.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go to a bit of a classic country tune here.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go with Eddie Rabbit's Driving My Life Away.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: Just a classic vagabond song, you know, Living Life on the Road.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: And it's just a bump.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: The whole song, you're just kind of bumping along.
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: Great driving song.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: And it's easy to listen to, good to drink to, good to drive to, just a good tune.
- 42:06SPEAKER_00: Driving my life away, Eddie Rabbit.
- 42:10SPEAKER_04: I'm driving my life away.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: Looking for a better way.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm also gonna throw it back a little bit uh with some Genesis.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: So for everybody, for everybody, yeah, a little Phil Collins action for everybody that is uh either too young or just isn't in the scene.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: Uh this is Phil Collins' former band, Genesis.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: Everybody knows Phil Collins from the Tarzan soundtrack.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: Everybody knows Son of Man.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Not coming in the air tonight.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: No, oh yeah, in the air tonight, I guess is important.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: But uh no, Tarzan.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: Everybody, everybody likes Tarzan.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: So but this is from Genesis, his original band, and the song I have for my song of the week is That's All.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: Um, it's an awesome jam, uh super, super upbeat, super hyped up, great dancing song.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: So uh yeah, man, that's my song of the week.
- 43:14SPEAKER_00: Rock on, man.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: So that makes two Phil Collins songs.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: Started with the My Wade Bowman song.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: I wish it would rain down the other week all the way a long time ago.
- 43:24SPEAKER_01: Yes, that of course was a cover.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: It was not actual Phil Collins on your street.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: So I guess it doesn't count that we repeated artists.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: It doesn't count.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: We didn't.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: Hey, I did Chris Stapleton and I also did the steel drivers.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: So that's you know, I guess we could make a whole episode of reviewing that, but yeah, let's just go ahead and let the casual listeners listen to another podcast already.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Let's end let's end it right here.
