- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The rex was
- 0:06Speaker 2: not chasing the jeep. Murray, Murray, you there. You love sandwiches? Huh,
- 0:11Speaker 2: Let's go to eighty.
- 0:13Speaker 3: It was bo.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Wow that prime time. Maybe I had a crush on
- 0:18Speaker 2: Betty Rubble. I honestly, until after the segment ended and
- 0:22Speaker 2: we went to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan
- 0:24Speaker 2: Coachman was black. He caught them the game last night,
- 0:27Speaker 2: although they won the game. You're listening just to Gotton Company.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Welcome to March. Tate Frasier is with us from The
- 0:34Speaker 2: Ringer and the Ringertailgate Podcast. Tate, do you get annoyed
- 0:38Speaker 2: that this sport that you love, that you cover all
- 0:41Speaker 2: season long, college basketball, that we don't start paying attention
- 0:44Speaker 2: to it until the NCAA Tournament.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Well, I'm happy that you at least talked about the tournament.
- 0:49Speaker 4: A lot of times people just want.
- 0:50Speaker 5: To talk about where they're going to go in the draft.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Can they handle okay, see the San Antonio Spurs, all
- 0:55Speaker 4: that sort of stuff. So at least if you talk
- 0:56Speaker 4: about the matchups in the tournament, I'm okay with that.
- 0:59Speaker 4: But of parachuting in a lot of big takes and
- 1:01Speaker 4: a lot of people watch, you know, the champ week
- 1:03Speaker 4: and then have a lot of opinions. But these teams
- 1:05Speaker 4: have played a long schedule, have a lot of storylines,
- 1:07Speaker 4: so I'm.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Excited to talk about it all.
- 1:09Speaker 4: And we got some good teams, some good matchups, and
- 1:12Speaker 4: a lot of good storylines, which is always fun.
- 1:14Speaker 6: I don't be to contradict Stu. Like right off the bat,
- 1:17Speaker 6: Tate nou he's just off a plane, like forty five
- 1:20Speaker 6: minutes ago.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Well, I listen. I was wondering if it bothers him.
- 1:23Speaker 2: He cares about the sport and none of us play
- 1:25Speaker 2: attention till now.
- 1:26Speaker 6: Right, But this is where I think he might be
- 1:28Speaker 6: a little annoyed because this year has been a pretty
- 1:31Speaker 6: damn good year for college basketball.
- 1:32Speaker 7: There's been a lot of big names and people liking it.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I know it's why I asked.
- 1:36Speaker 6: I mean no, but I'm saying that people have been
- 1:39Speaker 6: paying attention. Well, Tate argue the opposite. Tell me why
- 1:45Speaker 6: it's been a great season leading in to this tournament.
- 1:48Speaker 7: Please, there you go.
- 1:50Speaker 5: That's a good lead in.
- 1:51Speaker 4: I will say the good news for college basketball a
- 1:52Speaker 4: lot of talent, right, we get talent from you know,
- 1:55Speaker 4: these European pro leagues with guys coming over. We got
- 1:57Speaker 4: one of the best freshman classes ever. I mean, you
- 1:59Speaker 4: got comps to nineteen eighty one's class with Elijah On,
- 2:02Speaker 4: Michael Jordan, Chris Mullen. That incredible class. I don't know
- 2:05Speaker 4: if it's at that level, but I like the conversation point.
- 2:07Speaker 4: And then obviously we have a lot of guys that,
- 2:10Speaker 4: you know, decided to come back to college basketball. Yax Ol,
- 2:12Speaker 4: Linda Borg was supposed to be in the NBA, decided
- 2:15Speaker 4: to come back, has been one of the best players
- 2:16Speaker 4: in college basketball. You got Cam Boozer and the Boozer twins.
- 2:20Speaker 4: That's been a fun storyline. Now you got Cayden starting
- 2:22Speaker 4: for Duke, so that's interesting. And yeah, I mean across
- 2:25Speaker 4: the board the coaching too. We have maniacs everywhere. Dan
- 2:28Speaker 4: Hurley's a maniac. He bumps into officials. Mick Cronin has
- 2:31Speaker 4: been yelling at reporters all season long. Are you rais
- 2:34Speaker 4: voice in me? So there's just a lot going on,
- 2:37Speaker 4: which is good. We love the characters. The characters are
- 2:39Speaker 4: the best. Tate.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I don't mean to contradict Stu, but I watched two
- 2:43Speaker 1: full games.
- 2:45Speaker 7: Yeah, that's how you know, we know I watch talking
- 2:48Speaker 7: about it.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yes, I watched two full games this weekend. And Saint
- 2:52Speaker 1: John's being a five seed seems like an absolute crime
- 2:57Speaker 1: to me.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Should they have been higher they've been?
- 2:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's really tough with the Big East
- 3:02Speaker 4: because Yukon obviously they're a darling at some level. They
- 3:05Speaker 4: go to you know, one and two against the Saint
- 3:07Speaker 4: John's team. And I think Ri Katina made a good point.
- 3:09Speaker 4: He's like, I'm okay being a five seed. I'm not
- 3:11Speaker 4: okay having to go to San Diego play Kansas potentially
- 3:14Speaker 4: in the second round. He's gonna have no fans there.
- 3:17Speaker 4: And you know, I really think a swap that could
- 3:19Speaker 4: have been made, and I know the committee has a
- 3:21Speaker 4: tough time kind of figure out the logistics of it all,
- 3:23Speaker 4: but if Vanderbilt, who potentially could play Florida in the
- 3:25Speaker 4: Sweet sixteen, they're a five seed, if you could have
- 3:28Speaker 4: swapped Saint John's and Vanderbilt, that would have been a
- 3:30Speaker 4: nice way to do it. And then also Saint John's
- 3:32Speaker 4: Florida is a lot more fun in the Sweet sixteen
- 3:34Speaker 4: than seeing a game we just saw recently, so that
- 3:36Speaker 4: would have been one of my swaps. But again, the committee,
- 3:38Speaker 4: they're gonna do what they do.
- 3:40Speaker 6: Speaking of the Gators, I'm a Gator myself, and so
- 3:43Speaker 6: I'm not a huge fan of Todd Golden to be honest, however,
- 3:47Speaker 6: a national champions as a human being, as a basketball card,
- 3:50Speaker 6: I love the game. But as a human being, you know,
- 3:52Speaker 6: still some question marks out there, but it is there.
- 3:55Speaker 6: I mean, it seems like it's pretty difficult for them
- 3:57Speaker 6: to repeat. I don't think Odds are the last school
- 4:00Speaker 6: to repeat. Is going to be the next school to repeat.
- 4:02Speaker 6: But what's going to be if they can make it,
- 4:04Speaker 6: what's gonna be the reason why?
- 4:06Speaker 5: Yeah? Their front court. Their front court's incredible. I mean, Hinielou.
- 4:09Speaker 4: I mean, everybody talked about, you know, Thomas how coming back.
- 4:12Speaker 4: He's been their best player all year long. Alex Condon
- 4:14Speaker 4: is a really nice piece for this team. I think
- 4:16Speaker 4: hand logged it off the bench is also so they
- 4:18Speaker 4: got four legit big so even if they get in
- 4:20Speaker 4: foul trouble, the front court will carry them. Xavian Lee
- 4:23Speaker 4: and Boogie Flann have been the two guys that have
- 4:25Speaker 4: been up and down and you're trying to figure out
- 4:26Speaker 4: kind of who they are. But Zavian Lee had a
- 4:28Speaker 4: nice moment obviously against Kentucky where it was kind of
- 4:32Speaker 4: him versus Aberdeen, a guy who left Florida and he
- 4:34Speaker 4: got the best of them at the end of that game.
- 4:36Speaker 4: So that was a nice moment of confidence as you
- 4:38Speaker 4: move forward. But I worry about their backcourt. I worry
- 4:40Speaker 4: about Todd Golden getting a little too loose. You know,
- 4:42Speaker 4: he's not afraid for controversy. He's given some fus to
- 4:46Speaker 4: you know, Cali Perry who was shocked by it not
- 4:48Speaker 4: too long ago, so he's not afraid of the fire.
- 4:51Speaker 4: I think the tough part for Florida is they're gonna
- 4:52Speaker 4: They're gonna have to play probably Houston in Houston, so
- 4:55Speaker 4: they have basically a road game to go to the
- 4:57Speaker 4: Final four. And if that matchup happens, I would take
- 4:59Speaker 4: help and Samson and the Koogs in that one.
- 5:01Speaker 5: So that would be tough for Florida.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Tate the team that didn't get in that you thought
- 5:05Speaker 2: was deserving of getting in.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Well, I think Oklahoma, like if I they tried not
- 5:12Speaker 4: to do rematches, right, that was sort of a you know,
- 5:14Speaker 4: always been the calling card of the committee. We don't
- 5:16Speaker 4: want to see games that we've already seen before, especially
- 5:18Speaker 4: when we were putting the matchups out. So the C
- 5:21Speaker 4: in C State Texas in the playing game, we already
- 5:23Speaker 4: watched that terrible game in MAUI. Why do we have
- 5:25Speaker 4: to go through it again. I know it's in Dayton,
- 5:27Speaker 4: so it's a little bit of a you know, a
- 5:29Speaker 4: reprieve because it's not the actual tournament yet. But I
- 5:31Speaker 4: would say this, Oklahoma's been playing a lot better basketball
- 5:34Speaker 4: than Texas. If you had to choose one or the other,
- 5:36Speaker 4: I would have gone Oklahoma in Sea State and Dayton.
- 5:39Speaker 4: But the bubble was terrible. The bubble pop this year,
- 5:42Speaker 4: we didn't really care. Bruce Pearl became his own sort
- 5:45Speaker 4: of side show and circus trying to pony up for
- 5:47Speaker 4: his son. Rightfully so, but nobody wants to hear Auburn
- 5:51Speaker 4: with that many losses getting into the tournament.
- 5:53Speaker 5: So I don't think anybody got really snubbed at this point.
- 5:56Speaker 5: But Oklahoma might have the best case tate.
- 5:58Speaker 3: You have players that you call kem backaydates in March.
- 6:01Speaker 3: The players most likely to go on at kemba type
- 6:03Speaker 3: run love it. Who are your Kemba candidates for this
- 6:06Speaker 3: March Madness candidates.
- 6:08Speaker 4: I think Darius Acuff is the guy for Arkansas. I mean,
- 6:11Speaker 4: he's just he doesn't yeah. I think he's had one
- 6:14Speaker 4: game under seventeen points, which was all the way back
- 6:16Speaker 4: in November, and that was a game they dominated. So
- 6:19Speaker 4: he just gets buckets regardless, even if he's not playing well.
- 6:21Speaker 4: He just puts points on the board. So Acuff is
- 6:23Speaker 4: a guy who could make a run. Cali Perry obviously
- 6:26Speaker 4: is going to be right there in the fire having fun,
- 6:28Speaker 4: you know, giving him the ball and letting him go.
- 6:30Speaker 4: So I think he would probably be high up on
- 6:32Speaker 4: my list for a Kimba candidate. Another guy that I
- 6:35Speaker 4: think is probably not as much of a kim Ba cannon,
- 6:38Speaker 4: but just a guard that I love as Arizona's Jaden Bradley.
- 6:40Speaker 4: He just kind of does all the right things. Braden
- 6:43Speaker 4: Burry's next to him. I love their backcourt. So you
- 6:45Speaker 4: put those two together, maybe they form one Kimba candidate.
- 6:49Speaker 5: But I think if I had to go with one guy,
- 6:50Speaker 5: it would be Darius Acuff.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Teyate. If Miami of Ohio wins more than a single game,
- 6:55Speaker 2: will you be shocked?
- 6:57Speaker 5: Yes, I think SMU is going to destroy them. I would.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Uh, It's tough because SMU is a really good team
- 7:04Speaker 4: with one of the best basket backcourts in college basketball
- 7:07Speaker 4: with Pierre Junior and Boopy Miller and also BG Edwards.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Their best defender has been out for the past couple
- 7:11Speaker 4: of weeks, so they got kind of downgraded. It was
- 7:13Speaker 4: a bad draw from Miami of Ohio. You'd much rather
- 7:16Speaker 4: be Akron and be the twelve seed. I feel like
- 7:18Speaker 4: they got a better spot. They did win the tournament,
- 7:20Speaker 4: but they're obviously a higher seed. But that backcourt for SMU,
- 7:24Speaker 4: I think is going to give them a lot of problems.
- 7:26Speaker 4: So I would go with SMU to win that one big.
- 7:28Speaker 6: I'm curious on the Kemba candidate. Obviously alliterative, That's why
- 7:33Speaker 6: Kimba was such a great choice. Were there are other
- 7:35Speaker 6: options that maybe just didn't fit because the you know,
- 7:38Speaker 6: it wasn't uh, you know, alliterative as that one is.
- 7:41Speaker 7: Or was it just Kemba the entire time?
- 7:43Speaker 4: Maybe a Carson Edwards candidate, you know, you could be
- 7:46Speaker 4: a Carson candidate, but he didn't make it, you know,
- 7:49Speaker 4: game that was lost in the elite Elite eight.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Maybe not a lot of people remember Carson Edwards.
- 7:53Speaker 7: So that's always tough.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Also, I mean, yeah, Walter, maybe a Clayton candidate.
- 7:58Speaker 2: There you go, Yeah, one of those guys who doesn't
- 8:01Speaker 2: remember that guy.
- 8:02Speaker 7: Yeah, that was my question. You guys can get going.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Is Calibar He's team good enough to win a national championship? Here,
- 8:10Speaker 2: Nate Tate, that's.
- 8:14Speaker 5: It's my negative personality.
- 8:15Speaker 2: That'd be good.
- 8:16Speaker 4: I will say, I don't really buy into them winning
- 8:19Speaker 4: the national championship. I do like their drawl quite a bit,
- 8:23Speaker 4: but I just don't, you know, once we get to
- 8:26Speaker 4: that game against Arizona, I think their front court is
- 8:28Speaker 4: going to be an issue and Brazil is gonna have
- 8:29Speaker 4: a tough time with Krevas, who's the big for Arizona.
- 8:33Speaker 4: So I think that they cap out of the Sweet sixteen.
- 8:35Speaker 4: But again, if they make it to the second weekend,
- 8:36Speaker 4: that's a good storyline and they won the SEC Tournament,
- 8:39Speaker 4: which Caliperry as Kentucky flounders. He just wants to send
- 8:42Speaker 4: a message and he already kind of did that this year.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Tate, I'm a Carolina grad. You're a Carolina grad. How
- 8:48Speaker 3: worried are you about Duke coming into this tournament as
- 8:50Speaker 3: the number one overall seed.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Well, they got the blue Blood bracket, which everyone's like, oh,
- 8:55Speaker 4: what a tough drawl for Duke, But if you really
- 8:57Speaker 4: look at it, I mean Ohio State potentially in the
- 8:59Speaker 4: second round, she would love TCU to play against them.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Maybe that gives them a little bit of a scare.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Twenty seventeen, they were in Greenville. They played South Carolina
- 9:06Speaker 4: with Sindarius Thornwell, that was a team that shocked them.
- 9:08Speaker 4: PJ Dozer that group, So that could be something that
- 9:11Speaker 4: maybe gives them some issues. But just in general, I
- 9:14Speaker 4: mean Yukon Dan Hurley in the Elite eight would be
- 9:17Speaker 4: a tough matchup for them. But overall, I think Duke's
- 9:19Speaker 4: going to clear. I think Caleb Foster is going to
- 9:21Speaker 4: come back in the Elite eight, and you know, I
- 9:23Speaker 4: hate to say it, I take a huge size i
- 9:25Speaker 4: say it, but I think Duke's gonna win the national championship.
- 9:28Speaker 5: And maybe that's just me trying to protect myself at
- 9:29Speaker 5: this point.
- 9:30Speaker 6: Okay, So that's what I want to clarify there. Why
- 9:32Speaker 6: we needed to announce that you guys were you in
- 9:33Speaker 6: c alums? Is it just because of the Duke hatreds
- 9:36Speaker 6: that's built in because it seemed irrelevant to the question.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Well, in our world, it's like there are no other
- 9:41Speaker 4: teams right. Every single year, it's like either it's our
- 9:43Speaker 4: year or their year, and this feels like a Duke year.
- 9:47Speaker 4: And unfortunately that's the case. Kayler Wilson gets hurt and
- 9:49Speaker 4: takes Carolina out of the conversation. And when there's you know,
- 9:52Speaker 4: when you need a team to put on the superman
- 9:54Speaker 4: kate to stop Duke as they did in twenty twenty two,
- 9:56Speaker 4: there's only one team that seemingly can do it, and
- 9:58Speaker 4: that is North Carolina. I don't know if I see
- 10:01Speaker 4: one out there this year that can do it. Maybe
- 10:02Speaker 4: Houston again in the final four, but I feel like
- 10:04Speaker 4: they'll get redemption in that game. And then you look
- 10:06Speaker 4: at the other side of the bracket two thousand and one,
- 10:08Speaker 4: if we get that matchup again, Duke Arizona. I would
- 10:11Speaker 4: take Duke in that game. So I don't see many
- 10:13Speaker 4: people stop in Duke at this point.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I have VCU beating Carolina in the first round. How
- 10:18Speaker 2: do you feel about that? And are you like Taylor
- 10:20Speaker 2: Taylor wants Hubert Davis to be fired him.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean, look, Hubert's a great guy. I
- 10:27Speaker 4: do the thing on my show, you know, every time
- 10:28Speaker 4: that a coach gets fired, we all talk about how
- 10:30Speaker 4: great he is. I think that's where Hubert is. He's
- 10:32Speaker 4: just a great guy. We all love him so much.
- 10:34Speaker 2: When it's a good start, the heavy are you pilot on?
- 10:38Speaker 7: The more we know the hammer's coming down.
- 10:39Speaker 2: I prefer him being a great coach and being Mick Cronin.
- 10:42Speaker 4: I mean, honestly, yeah, Mick Croton would never be called
- 10:45Speaker 4: a great guy, but he is a good coach. But yeah,
- 10:48Speaker 4: this Carolina team, it's a tough matchup with VCU, a
- 10:50Speaker 4: team that can shoot a bunch of threes. I do
- 10:52Speaker 4: like the matchup as far as pace. They will get
- 10:54Speaker 4: up and down. But Phil Martelli Junior is a really
- 10:57Speaker 4: good coach, and I think this is his sign to
- 10:59Speaker 4: send a message that hey, he's gonna bump up another level.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Anybody that goes to VCU seemingly gets a better job.
- 11:03Speaker 5: At the end of the day.
- 11:04Speaker 4: You just go back through the annals of history, starting
- 11:06Speaker 4: with Anthony Grant.
- 11:07Speaker 5: They just keep bumping up the line.
- 11:09Speaker 4: So I think he's gonna do the same sort of thing,
- 11:11Speaker 4: And I think VCU is gonna get people in Chapel
- 11:13Speaker 4: Hill talking about what's next, and it could happen sooner
- 11:16Speaker 4: rather than later.
- 11:17Speaker 7: Wow, it would be easier.
- 11:18Speaker 6: It would feel better to have to say, yeah, the
- 11:21Speaker 6: guy's a real jerk and he deserves to get fired.
- 11:23Speaker 6: Like that's just easier to say, right, because if somebody
- 11:25Speaker 6: is nice, it's like, oh damn, I don't want to fire.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Him, right, Yeah, It's like Mark popea Kentucky All the
- 11:29Speaker 4: Kentucky fans are like, I want this guy.
- 11:31Speaker 5: I would drive him to the airport. But we do
- 11:33Speaker 5: love him.
- 11:33Speaker 4: He won us a national championship, you know, and then
- 11:36Speaker 4: you get in that tough spot like Kenny Payne was
- 11:38Speaker 4: a perfect you know thing for Louisville, right, I mean,
- 11:40Speaker 4: he was such a nice guy. Everybody liked him for
- 11:42Speaker 4: the most part, and then you know, he won them
- 11:44Speaker 4: a national championship. It's tough when it's guys that played
- 11:46Speaker 4: there and you got to make him leave. Look at
- 11:47Speaker 4: Penny Hardaway. They can't get rid of him every single.
- 11:51Speaker 5: And they don't want to lose a legend.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Take one of my problems when I'm filling out a bracket,
- 11:55Speaker 3: is I get to the elite eight and then I'm
- 11:57Speaker 3: looking around and I'm like, oh, crap, I have one
- 11:59Speaker 3: verse two, one verse two, one verse two. If I'm
- 12:02Speaker 3: looking for sleeper teams for people filling out a bracket,
- 12:06Speaker 3: what teams would you pick?
- 12:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I've still owned Gonzaga. I think they're kind of
- 12:11Speaker 4: in the perfect spot. They're a little bit under the radar.
- 12:14Speaker 4: I think they have more length and athleticism this year
- 12:16Speaker 4: on the wing than they've had in the past.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Which I think helps them quite a bit.
- 12:19Speaker 4: And I think that we're gonna get a Tommy Lloyd
- 12:21Speaker 4: Mark fu game where you know, it's the master versus
- 12:24Speaker 4: the protege, and I think Mark Feu might have a
- 12:26Speaker 4: little something up his sleeve for Tommy Lloyd that could
- 12:28Speaker 4: stop Arizona. So they're a three seed though, so it's
- 12:31Speaker 4: not something that you could that's not really a big swing.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yet something up the sleeve, I mean that's big.
- 12:35Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, you gotta have something up your sleeve,
- 12:37Speaker 4: as you know. I think Louisville's gonna be a hot
- 12:40Speaker 4: pick for a lot of people to say as a
- 12:41Speaker 4: team that's not, you know, one of the one, two, three,
- 12:44Speaker 4: four seeds. But I don't trust as the Louisville team
- 12:46Speaker 4: at all. And I think South Florida is going to
- 12:48Speaker 4: be a team that gives them some problems in the
- 12:49Speaker 4: first round, So don't fall for them, I would say.
- 12:52Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean, Gonzaga is probably the highest seed
- 12:54Speaker 4: I would go for. I think it goes chalk again.
- 12:56Speaker 4: There's a big gap from the top.
- 12:57Speaker 5: To the middle and then the middle to the bottom,
- 13:00Speaker 5: and you can see that with the line so far.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Stugotts here. College basketball is NonStop, big games, tight spreads,
- 13:06Speaker 2: momentum swings every single night, and now FanDuel has giving
- 13:10Speaker 2: you a way to turn that energy into even bigger
- 13:13Speaker 2: wins with a college basketball parlay profit boost. Here's how
- 13:17Speaker 2: it works. Build any college hoops parlay you like the

- 15:11Speaker 6: So on the way up here as scut Gott's fresh
- 15:14Speaker 6: off a plane and about to hop on another bird
- 15:17Speaker 6: to Portland.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Maybe yeah, definitely, or maybe I'm thinking about going to Portland. Listen,
- 15:22Speaker 2: you know how much I love the University of Miami
- 15:24Speaker 2: basketball program, and no one covers it like I do. Okay,
- 15:27Speaker 2: I dare anyone. I defy anyone to travel to Portland
- 15:29Speaker 2: for first and second round games like I'm gonna do it.
- 15:31Speaker 7: According to this piece of paper. Tell me if it's wrong.
- 15:33Speaker 7: According to this piece of paper, UM is playing in
- 15:35Speaker 7: Saint Louis.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Oh, well that's unfortunately, I mean, so I'll have to
- 15:38Speaker 2: go to Saint Louis and then to Portland.
- 15:40Speaker 5: I understand.
- 15:41Speaker 7: I'm glad we didn't set up that joke the way
- 15:43Speaker 7: you wanted to.
- 15:44Speaker 6: Could we look pretty stupid saying we're sending up to
- 15:47Speaker 6: Portland to cover UM and there, you know, in the
- 15:49Speaker 6: middle of the country.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah, Saint Louis is fine, though, I mean, I defy
- 15:52Speaker 2: anyone to travel to Saint Louis to check out Miami's
- 15:55Speaker 2: first and second round games of the NCAA tournament. But
- 15:59Speaker 2: Taita will ask you that is Miami good enough to
- 16:01Speaker 2: make it to a final four?
- 16:03Speaker 4: I don't know if they're good enough to make it
- 16:05Speaker 4: to a final four. They are good enough to upset Perdue, though.
- 16:07Speaker 4: I think in that second round game.
- 16:09Speaker 7: What happened to supposed to be everything this year?
- 16:11Speaker 4: Yeah, preseason number one just won the Big Ten tournament,
- 16:14Speaker 4: so they're riding on a high right now.
- 16:15Speaker 5: But sometimes when you.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Win the Big Ten tournament, you fall off the wagon
- 16:18Speaker 4: real quick, Like Illinois back in twenty twenty one. We
- 16:21Speaker 4: all picked them to win the championship and they did
- 16:23Speaker 4: not do that. They lost the Cameron Crutwig in the
- 16:25Speaker 4: second round. I think a similar thing could happen to Purdue.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Malik Renew, who transferred from Indiana down to Miami, has
- 16:31Speaker 4: a little bit of a knowledge of that produced system
- 16:33Speaker 4: and also has played against him quite a bit, so
- 16:35Speaker 4: I think him in the post could be something nice
- 16:37Speaker 4: for them.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Oscar Cluff is.
- 16:38Speaker 4: Playing good, but I still think they have a weakness
- 16:40Speaker 4: in the front court. Trakeoff and Renn had a great
- 16:42Speaker 4: game against Michigan. But if Miami can get past Missouri,
- 16:45Speaker 4: I think they could really upset and at least get
- 16:47Speaker 4: to the sweet sixteen and then probably have some issues
- 16:50Speaker 4: with a Gonzaga or you know, who knows, maybe if
- 16:52Speaker 4: you believe in a BYU.
- 16:53Speaker 5: But I think they could get to the second weekend?
- 16:55Speaker 3: Is he be honest there? When you said what happened
- 16:57Speaker 3: to Purdue? You didn't know they won the Big Ten?
- 16:59Speaker 2: Talk?
- 17:00Speaker 7: So I did.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I did.
- 17:01Speaker 7: What I met was they were supposed to be the favorite.
- 17:04Speaker 2: They were.
- 17:04Speaker 6: I mean everything preseason that I read was they should
- 17:07Speaker 6: be the number one overall seed when it's all said
- 17:09Speaker 6: and done, blah blah blah, and they've just kind of
- 17:11Speaker 6: fallen off a little bit.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you, Taylor. And that's why I started the
- 17:14Speaker 2: way I started, because we all started paying attention. Now.
- 17:16Speaker 2: I just looked at the bracket for the first time.
- 17:18Speaker 7: Look, Tate, knew what I meant? Am I wrong?
- 17:20Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 17:20Speaker 5: I knew what you meant.
- 17:21Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 17:21Speaker 4: Yeah, they were preseason number one and then they were
- 17:23Speaker 4: seven seed in the Big Ten tournament.
- 17:25Speaker 5: So it's a fair point.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Come on, Taylor, Tate, is it weird to you to
- 17:28Speaker 2: see an NCAA tournament? I guess it speaks to the
- 17:30Speaker 2: parody of the sport now where Louisville and teams like
- 17:34Speaker 2: UCLA's a seven seed. Louisville, I think is a six
- 17:38Speaker 2: or an eight seed or something like that. Is it
- 17:40Speaker 2: weird to see those schools be such high seeds in
- 17:43Speaker 2: the tournament?
- 17:44Speaker 4: I think Louisville, I mean, after the Kiney Payne era,
- 17:46Speaker 4: they would have signed up to be a six seed
- 17:48Speaker 4: all day, every day. But now they're getting a little
- 17:50Speaker 4: bit frustrated because they got all the good pr last
- 17:52Speaker 4: year with Pat Kelsey wins Coach of the Year in
- 17:54Speaker 4: the ACC, but when they played top teams, they don't
- 17:56Speaker 4: show up and the whole you know, running gun shoot
- 17:59Speaker 4: a bunch of threes. They don't make those threes against
- 18:01Speaker 4: good teams. So I think they're at a breaking point.
- 18:03Speaker 4: And then Mick Cronin is always at a breaking point.
- 18:05Speaker 4: I mean he's always ready to go and stand on
- 18:07Speaker 4: anybody and everybody. So I think UCLA fans it's a
- 18:10Speaker 4: little bit different than John Wooden. He's not teaching them
- 18:12Speaker 4: how to tie their shoes. He's throwing their shoes and
- 18:15Speaker 4: maybe throwing their shoes at them in practice. So that's
- 18:18Speaker 4: kind of where he is right now. I mean, look,
- 18:21Speaker 4: the top of the sport, the top three teams are
- 18:23Speaker 4: really on their own tier, and maybe you could throw
- 18:25Speaker 4: Florida or Houston in a tier right below them, but
- 18:27Speaker 4: then there's a pretty sizable gap. I mean, I know
- 18:29Speaker 4: Iowa State fans will get upset when you say that,
- 18:31Speaker 4: but I think from there it is more of a
- 18:34Speaker 4: you know, on a.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Given day, like Kansas on a given day can be.
- 18:37Speaker 4: One of the best teams in the country, but they
- 18:39Speaker 4: also can no show and lose to cal Baptists. You know,
- 18:41Speaker 4: I have no idea how to handicap that type of team.
- 18:44Speaker 4: So the top four seeds definitely have separated themselves, but
- 18:46Speaker 4: I do feel like the one seeds in particular, especially
- 18:49Speaker 4: the three one seeds, are separate in their own tier
- 18:52Speaker 4: just because of their front courts.
- 18:53Speaker 7: Hey, can you say AJ's last name out in BYU
- 18:55Speaker 7: for me?
- 18:57Speaker 4: Yeah, so I say Da Bansa, but you know they
- 18:59Speaker 4: say the And the reason I made that well, I
- 19:03Speaker 4: met his dad and his dad told me it was Debansa,
- 19:06Speaker 4: and he said, like an aunt, Dabansa. But then I've
- 19:09Speaker 4: got some pushback because Aj himself says de Bonsa. But
- 19:12Speaker 4: I think he's been bullied into saying his name wrong.
- 19:14Speaker 4: And we've seen this before, right, Yeah, you know etn
- 19:18Speaker 4: he just said this it's.
- 19:19Speaker 5: A chan Yeah, he just corrected it.
- 19:21Speaker 4: He was like, I have been saying my name wrong
- 19:22Speaker 4: for ten years because people just called me this.
- 19:24Speaker 5: So we've seen it happen before.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yep. I have Nebraska coming out of the South. Now,
- 19:28Speaker 2: I know they've never won an NCAA tournament game, but
- 19:30Speaker 2: Fred Hoiberg is the coach there, I mean the mayor.
- 19:33Speaker 2: The mayor is coaching. You talk about, you know, senior
- 19:35Speaker 2: guard play, I mean the mayor. H So I have
- 19:37Speaker 2: Nebraska coming out of the South. What do you think? Wow?
- 19:41Speaker 5: I just think they beat Troy. That I want history.
- 19:43Speaker 5: I want them to beat Troy.
- 19:44Speaker 4: I'm a little bit worried about that matchup in particular.
- 19:48Speaker 4: I think Vanderbilt will give them a lot of trouble.
- 19:50Speaker 4: But if Nebraska were to make the Sweet sixteen, that
- 19:52Speaker 4: would be one of the best stories.
- 19:53Speaker 5: And I love Hoiberg.
- 19:54Speaker 4: I think he's a really good coach. He's gone through
- 19:56Speaker 4: it a little bit, gone through the gauntlet. I don't
- 19:57Speaker 4: see them coming out of the South, but I like
- 19:59Speaker 4: to pick I like this, Zach.
- 20:01Speaker 2: That's good that who does have the best guard play
- 20:04Speaker 2: in the tournament senior guard play. Is there a team
- 20:06Speaker 2: experienced guard play because seniors are like fossilized now, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 2: no one it stings around for their year.
- 20:12Speaker 4: It's tough to have a senior guard that is really
- 20:14Speaker 4: doing it. I mean Jaden Bradley at Arizona. Like I
- 20:16Speaker 4: said before Braden Smith that Purdue would be two guys
- 20:19Speaker 4: that you point to. You know, Houston has Uzanne, who's
- 20:22Speaker 4: there who's kind of become like an off guard guy
- 20:24Speaker 4: because Kingston Flemings has become the point guard. But I
- 20:27Speaker 4: think they count just because of u Zan being there.
- 20:29Speaker 4: So honestly, I would go with Arizona as your best
- 20:31Speaker 4: bet because Jaden Bradley, he's been clutch all season long.
- 20:33Speaker 4: He's won a bunch of games at the end of games,
- 20:36Speaker 4: and I think it's tough to believe in Arizona. If
- 20:38Speaker 4: they had any sort of name on the front of
- 20:39Speaker 4: their chest that wasn't Arizona, I think we'd be all
- 20:41Speaker 4: in on them winning the championship.
- 20:43Speaker 5: But we all have a little bit of hesitation because
- 20:45Speaker 5: they've let.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Me down personally over the past few years, and I'm
- 20:48Speaker 4: worried they might do it again.
- 20:49Speaker 6: That's got to be like the strangest high pressure first
- 20:52Speaker 6: round game ever, a four to thirteen when Nebraska's trying
- 20:55Speaker 6: to win their first tournament game ever.
- 20:57Speaker 7: Yeah, it's like that. That's not gonna feel like a
- 20:59Speaker 7: normal four thirteen.
- 21:00Speaker 4: It gets a really good Troy team too, like a
- 21:03Speaker 4: Troy team that could definitely upset them. And you know,
- 21:06Speaker 4: I just think when you know that you haven't won
- 21:08Speaker 4: a tournament game, it's hard to make yourself not think
- 21:10Speaker 4: about the pressure of that.
- 21:11Speaker 5: So a lot of pressure on Nebraska.
- 21:12Speaker 4: But look, luckily they got Stu Gotts on their side,
- 21:14Speaker 4: so maybe thats right.
- 21:17Speaker 2: You tell them what does Thursday and Friday look like
- 21:20Speaker 2: for you?
- 21:20Speaker 4: Like?
- 21:20Speaker 2: Are you doing it the way we do it?
- 21:22Speaker 1: Like?
- 21:22Speaker 2: How does this work for you? Yeah?
- 21:24Speaker 5: I'll be locked in.
- 21:25Speaker 4: I'm just gonna have, you know, iPad TVs locked on
- 21:28Speaker 4: all the games. It's tough, you know, you feel like
- 21:29Speaker 4: you always miss something in the first round, right, there's
- 21:32Speaker 4: so many games happening in real time.
- 21:34Speaker 5: But I'll do my.
- 21:34Speaker 4: Best to watch them all as best I could. And
- 21:37Speaker 4: next week I'll be in Vegas with cousin sal We're
- 21:39Speaker 4: gonna be Jimmy Kimmel's comedy club.
- 21:41Speaker 5: So we're gonna have second.
- 21:42Speaker 4: Weekend do some race to tends with the people, so
- 21:44Speaker 4: that'll be a lot of fun. We usually do it
- 21:45Speaker 4: first weekend, but last year was a little too much chaos,
- 21:48Speaker 4: so this year we've gone second weekend, so that'll be fun.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Well, Darren Peterson ultimately get an NBA GM fired.
- 21:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I like that question.
- 22:00Speaker 4: I don't think an NBA GM would take Nebraska to
- 22:02Speaker 4: win the South because they don't think they don't have
- 22:05Speaker 4: that type.
- 22:05Speaker 5: Of brain capacity.
- 22:06Speaker 2: That's right.
- 22:07Speaker 4: I think Darren Peterson, if he goes two or three,
- 22:10Speaker 4: you're not going to get fired. But I worry if
- 22:12Speaker 4: he does go one and then aj Is looks like
- 22:15Speaker 4: he's the rookie of the year obvious, or kayleb Wilson
- 22:17Speaker 4: looks incredible, or Cameron Boozer looks like a superstar. That's
- 22:21Speaker 4: gonna be the type of guy that you know gets fired.
- 22:23Speaker 4: But all these gms are going to get fired at
- 22:24Speaker 4: some point, so why not take a swing? And I
- 22:26Speaker 4: think Darren Peterson could have a really nice run in
- 22:29Speaker 4: the tournament. And if they upset a duke in the
- 22:31Speaker 4: sweet sixteen and he beats Cameron Boozer head to head.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Then he's definitely going to be in the conversation to
- 22:36Speaker 4: be a lock for number one.
- 22:37Speaker 2: In a strange world where you could only watch one
- 22:39Speaker 2: first round game, what is the first round game that
- 22:42Speaker 2: you're watching?
- 22:44Speaker 5: Cool? That's a good questions.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Terrible world that is, Yeah, that's not think hint.
- 22:49Speaker 5: High Point Wisconsin would be my.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Dick really in the state of Carolina, but not North Carolina.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, just a lot of scoring in that game,
- 22:58Speaker 4: a lot of three point shooting. Nick Lloyd is one
- 23:00Speaker 4: of my favorite guards in college basketball. Got some experience
- 23:03Speaker 4: from his time in San Diego State and he's been
- 23:04Speaker 4: playing some great basketball this year. So and high Point,
- 23:07Speaker 4: I just have a soft spot for that program. Shout
- 23:09Speaker 4: out to Tuby Smith. But yeah, high Point Wisconsin would
- 23:12Speaker 4: probably be the game that I would go to.
- 23:13Speaker 5: But there's a lot of good games.
- 23:14Speaker 4: I even think Queens might give produced some trouble in
- 23:17Speaker 4: the first round.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Wow, But yeah, I'll stick with high Point.
- 23:19Speaker 6: That has to be the most shocking answer I've heard
- 23:21Speaker 6: all year from on any subject.
- 23:23Speaker 7: I did not believe you. I thought you were joking.
- 23:25Speaker 7: Wisconsin Point.
- 23:27Speaker 5: I think it's gonna be fun. A lot of points.
- 23:29Speaker 4: I like points you know what I mean. I don't
- 23:31Speaker 4: need like a slug mucked up game.
- 23:32Speaker 5: I want some fun.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Exactly same question. But if you could only watch one
- 23:36Speaker 3: coach in the first round, Oh, where does Fran McCaffrey
- 23:39Speaker 3: rank for you?
- 23:40Speaker 4: Jeez oh man, that's gonna be a great game. Yeah,
- 23:43Speaker 4: Brad Underwood, Fran McCaffrey. A lot of sweat happening on
- 23:46Speaker 4: the sidelines, a lot of you know, threatening officials on
- 23:50Speaker 4: the sidelines. And you know, I like when we go
- 23:52Speaker 4: fran con three, that's when we know that we're in
- 23:54Speaker 4: a good spot.
- 23:55Speaker 5: He's got TJ. Power on his side. That's gonna be
- 23:58Speaker 5: a great game.
- 23:59Speaker 4: I think Illinois blows them out, but Fran McCaffrey trying
- 24:02Speaker 4: to manipulate the game early is going to be.
- 24:04Speaker 5: A lot of fun.
- 24:04Speaker 4: And that's a big tin battle, right there, A throwback
- 24:07Speaker 4: big ten battle between those two coaches.
- 24:09Speaker 2: TJ Power, former five star.
- 24:10Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, you know you're who do Virginia? There
- 24:13Speaker 5: you go.
- 24:14Speaker 4: He had thirty five points at Virginia last year. He
- 24:16Speaker 4: had forty four in the IVY League championship game.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Make it makes sense, Yes, East, South, Midwest or West?
- 24:21Speaker 2: Which one is the toughest to get out of.
- 24:23Speaker 4: I think the East seems to be the one that
- 24:25Speaker 4: everyone's pointing to just because of the brands that are
- 24:28Speaker 4: at play and the coaches that are in play. So
- 24:30Speaker 4: I would say the East to feed the duke propaganda
- 24:33Speaker 4: of it all. But I do think I think the
- 24:35Speaker 4: South is going to be pretty tough, and Houston's gonna
- 24:38Speaker 4: find a way to claw through there. But the South
- 24:40Speaker 4: is probably the right pick, but the East is the
- 24:43Speaker 4: it seems to be the favorite at this point.
- 24:45Speaker 6: Tate, gonna get you out here on this one. Just
- 24:47Speaker 6: so you know, I am just now, as you were speaking,
- 24:49Speaker 6: finding Taylor's prep sheet for this interview.
- 24:52Speaker 7: Yeah, I think for one. So I'll just ask you
- 24:55Speaker 7: who you think is gonna win it all.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's because I had.
- 24:57Speaker 5: It all right.
- 25:00Speaker 4: I'm gonna take a swing here, and it's probably an
- 25:02Speaker 4: insane swing, but I'm gonna go with Gonzaga to win
- 25:05Speaker 4: it all.
- 25:05Speaker 5: I think zag.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yeah, watch out. I mean tell you watch out. I'm
- 25:12Speaker 2: telling you right now. You steal it if you want.
- 25:14Speaker 2: But I am telling you that team is good. They
- 25:16Speaker 2: play tenacious d they grant boards and Fred Hoiberg. I
- 25:20Speaker 2: mean that's and that's what marks all about.
- 25:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I like it.
- 25:23Speaker 4: The Huskers versus the Zags in the championship game, that's perfect.
- 25:26Speaker 5: I think lock it in.
- 25:28Speaker 2: So you have Gonzaga winning it all. Do you have
- 25:29Speaker 2: a final four yet? Do you have your your final
- 25:31Speaker 2: four selected yet?
- 25:33Speaker 4: I think Duke Houston will be on the left side
- 25:35Speaker 4: of the bracket. I think Gonzaga is gonna beat Arizona
- 25:38Speaker 4: and a heartbreaker in the Elite eight. That's what That's
- 25:40Speaker 4: what I'm going with Gonzaga. And then I think in
- 25:41Speaker 4: the bottom I have a problem with Michigan, but I
- 25:45Speaker 4: really just don't see anybody beating Michigan. So I think
- 25:47Speaker 4: Michigan gets there, and then graham Ka has a great
- 25:49Speaker 4: game against Michigan's front court, gets him in foul trouble,
- 25:52Speaker 4: and then I think Gonzaga Houston in the championship game
- 25:54Speaker 4: and somehow Gonzaga wins.
- 25:56Speaker 7: It's no chance that's gonna happen.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Well, it's interesting because it seems like you're going chalk
- 26:01Speaker 2: and I don't blame you for doing it, but it
- 26:02Speaker 2: seems also seems like there's more parody in the sport
- 26:05Speaker 2: than ever, and you're still going chalk. Huh.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Yeah, the top is too good, and especially with the
- 26:10Speaker 4: front courts. You know, if you look at all these
- 26:12Speaker 4: front courts across college basketball, the size of the top
- 26:15Speaker 4: three teams is pretty unmatched.
- 26:16Speaker 5: Florida is the only front court that can really match up.
