- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The feast of Saint Bruno. Confessor. October 6 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of today's saint, Dom Gaspar Lefevre writes the following.
- 0:26Bruno was born at Cologne in the eleventh century. With six of his friends he retired on one of the desert heights of Dauphini called the Certoza which had been conceded to them by the Bishop of Grenoble. There he founded the first monastery of the order of penitence and contemplation which is held so highly by the church that by the prescriptions of Canon law, the religious of other orders may enter this one so as to lead a more perfect life. Saint Bruno died pressing the crucifix to his lips on October 6 in the year of our Lord 1101. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost.
- 1:29Amen. The introit. The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom and his tongue shall speak judgment. The law of God is in his heart. Be not immulus of evildoers nor envy them that work iniquity.
- 1:55Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom and his tongue shall speak judgment. The law of God is in his heart. The Collect, let us pray.
- 2:29May we be helped by the intercession of Saint Bruno, thy confessor, O Lord, we beseech thee, so that we who by our evil deeds have grievously offended thy majesty, may by his merits and prayers obtain forgiveness of our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the wisdom of Sirach. Blessed is the man who lives unreproved, who has no greed for gold and puts no trust in his store of riches. Show us such a man and we will be loud in his praise.
- 3:25Here is a life to wonder at. A man so tested and found perfect wins eternal honor. He kept clear of sin when sinful ways were easy. Did no wrong when wrong lay in his power. His treasure is safely preserved in the Lord's keeping and wherever faithful men are met, his alms deeds will be remembered.
- 3:57The gradual. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree. In the house of the Lord he shall grow to greatness like the cedars of Lebanon to proclaim Thy mercy in the morning and Thy truth in the night. Alleluia. Alleluia.
- 4:21Blessed is he who endures under trials. When he has proved his worth, he shall win the crown of life. Hallelujah. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke. At that time Jesus said to his disciples, Your loins must be girt and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men awaiting their master's return from my wedding feast so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks at the door.
- 5:03Blessed are those servants whom their master will find watching when he comes. I promise you, he will gird himself and make them sit down to meet and minister to them. Whether he comes in the second quarter of the night or in the third, blessed are those servants if he finds them alert. Be sure of this. If the master of the house had known at what time the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and not allowed his house to be broken open.
- 5:40You too then must stand ready for at what hour you think not, the Son of Man will come. The Offertory. My truth and my mercy shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. The secret: In memory of thy saints, O Lord, we present thee the sacrifice of praise by which we trust to be delivered from both present and future evils. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 6:33Amen. The Common Preface Just it is indeed and fitting, right in for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee. Oh, holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God. Through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise.
- 7:24Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion.
- 7:50Blessed is the servant who is found on the watch when the Lord comes. Amen, I say to you, he shall place him over all his goods. The post communion. Let us pray. We beseech thee, O Almighty God, that we who have received heavenly nourishment may thereby at the intercession of blessed Bruno, thy confessor, be defended against all adversity through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 8:38Amen. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen. Thanks be to God. Saint Bruno, pray for us.
