- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 3: The rex was not chasing the jeep. Murray, Murray, you there.
- 0:09Speaker 3: You love sandwiches. Huh, Let's go to eighty. It was
- 0:14Speaker 3: bo wow that Prime Time. Maybe I had a crush
- 0:18Speaker 3: on Betty Rubble.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 2: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 3: He caught them the game last night, although they won
- 0:28Speaker 3: the game. You're listening to Stu gottson Company.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It is Stugotts and Company, presented by Van Duel and
- 0:34Speaker 2: the Vanduel Sportsbook. Tim Kerching going to join us in
- 0:37Speaker 2: about ten minutes, very much looking forward to that. I
- 0:40Speaker 2: don't think anything Any guests we have gets mikey A
- 0:43Speaker 2: and Taylor, and I think is real goody Eras for
- 0:45Speaker 2: that matter, I'm more excited than Tim Kerchief.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I love Tim.
- 0:49Speaker 2: The guest that gets me most excited is the guest
- 0:51Speaker 2: that will join us at set number two, Hogsdale.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Taylor, had you experience the Yankee game last night?
- 1:00Speaker 2: The Yankees win two to nothing, and one guy you dismissed.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I think he told him to pack his bags.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Jazz, Chisholm Schism hit a home run a solo shot.
- 1:11Speaker 2: The other one Lombard in his first major league game.
- 1:15Speaker 3: That was the guy.
- 1:16Speaker 2: You didn't really rip Lombard. You ripped Cashman for using
- 1:19Speaker 2: Lombard as an excuse as to why he didn't go
- 1:22Speaker 2: out and make more deals during the trade deadline.
- 1:24Speaker 3: How'd you feel?
- 1:24Speaker 4: I ripped Cashman for ruining what should have been a
- 1:27Speaker 4: happy George Lombard Day. That's how I was greeting everybody
- 1:31Speaker 4: in the streets yesterday, say are you happy George Lombard Day?
- 1:33Speaker 4: We finally made it. We have our shortstop of the future.
- 1:36Speaker 5: You don't live in New York, right, Nobody knows what
- 1:38Speaker 5: you're saying.
- 1:41Speaker 4: How I experienced it was, I'm very excited about George
- 1:46Speaker 4: Lombard because he's already an MLB level glove. You saw
- 1:50Speaker 4: that with a couple of double plays that he turned,
- 1:52Speaker 4: where the broadcast is like, we haven't seen anything that
- 1:55Speaker 4: looked like this this entire season. Right now, the expectations
- 1:59Speaker 4: on him, they feel like they're reaching Jeter esque because
- 2:04Speaker 4: everything that he's doing, they're like, oh, Jeter did this
- 2:07Speaker 4: when Jeter was twenty. Jeter's three thousand hit went to
- 2:10Speaker 4: the same place that Lombard's first home run went. And
- 2:13Speaker 4: I'm watching, I'm like, guys, these are not fair expectations
- 2:18Speaker 4: to put on a twenty one year old.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yes, isn't this exactly what I said that his expectations
- 2:23Speaker 1: because they didn't do anything at the deadline, because they
- 2:26Speaker 1: brought him up like this, with all this grandeur that
- 2:29Speaker 1: now we're gonna start whispering Derek Jeter when.
- 2:33Speaker 3: He does like, let the kid be the kid.
- 2:36Speaker 1: And the problem with Cashman, to Taylor's point, is if
- 2:40Speaker 1: the kid is this good, why the hell are we
- 2:42Speaker 1: just seeing him now August fourth, after you ruin the deadline.
- 2:46Speaker 1: The whole reason they brought him up now is because
- 2:49Speaker 1: look at this shiny toy over here, paying no attention
- 2:52Speaker 1: to the fact that we did nothing else.
- 2:54Speaker 4: But there are certain franchises where the up and coming
- 2:58Speaker 4: prospects are always going to be chasing ghosts of goats
- 3:02Speaker 4: and sports where every Chicago Bull they're gonna be compared
- 3:05Speaker 4: to Michael Jordan, every Patriot quarterback is going to be
- 3:08Speaker 4: compared to Tom Brady. I think the Yankee shortstop is
- 3:13Speaker 4: just one of those in that line of unfair comparisons.
- 3:17Speaker 6: Well, unfair maybe, But if you're not allowing to make
- 3:21Speaker 6: this comparison, get over yourself because it's not just any
- 3:25Speaker 6: Chicago bull player that gets compared to Jordan. Remember Harold
- 3:29Speaker 6: Minor Baby Jordan. Like that stuff happens all the time.
- 3:33Speaker 6: And Okay, are some of them overreaches? Are some of
- 3:36Speaker 6: them premature?
- 3:37Speaker 5: Yeah, but get over yourselves.
- 3:39Speaker 6: If you can not, you too, But get over yourselves
- 3:41Speaker 6: if you are upset because he's getting compared to Derek Jeter.
- 3:45Speaker 6: I mean he was a big time prospect, his dad
- 3:48Speaker 6: was a player and people, and you know, he's just
- 3:50Speaker 6: a soft buttery hands that shortstop.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Like, why not compare him? Why not set the.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Bar for him?
- 3:55Speaker 2: I won't be so gentle. I'll ill emit directly at
- 3:57Speaker 2: you two. I mean, Jesus.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Christ, who cares think he's gonna be the next Jeter?
- 4:01Speaker 3: That should excite you. I mean, he's from Miami.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It's it's not necessarily the comparisons. It's that's all we
- 4:09Speaker 1: get to talk about right now. It's it's it's not
- 4:12Speaker 1: the comparison, it's in the situation of, well, if he
- 4:16Speaker 1: can't save us, then I guess the season's over.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Because we did nothing else.
- 4:20Speaker 4: And it's a twenty one year old like he's going
- 4:23Speaker 4: to go through struggles. And if everybody's question is about
- 4:26Speaker 4: why aren't you Derek Jeter, why aren't you one of
- 4:28Speaker 4: the greatest players in franchise history? Your first month into
- 4:32Speaker 4: the season where when he hit that home run, I
- 4:35Speaker 4: hate to admit it, I was like, man, Brian Cashman
- 4:38Speaker 4: is going to get absolutely bailed out this trade deadline
- 4:40Speaker 4: because he calls up Lombard. But also the Yankees win
- 4:43Speaker 4: to nothing. That's that's the only way this Yankee team
- 4:45Speaker 4: can win. With two solo home runs and a great
- 4:48Speaker 4: start behind Ryan Weatherson, I mean came from the Marlins.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yes, he pitched very well. They got to win. The
- 4:53Speaker 2: Dodgers lost. I think the Dodgers have lost.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Fay stink theytink.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I feel like for a night, I do for an
- 5:00Speaker 2: that Brian Cashman was sitting in the owner's box and
- 5:03Speaker 2: he was holding up his middle finger and it was
- 5:05Speaker 2: aimed directly at you, Taylor.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Well, what I would point back at Brian Cashman. Jazz
- 5:11Speaker 4: Chisholm is still in the ninth percentile in terms of
- 5:13Speaker 4: batting run value according to Baseball Savant. Like Jazz Chishm.
- 5:18Speaker 4: He strikes out and he's gonna hit it the occasional
- 5:20Speaker 4: home run. That's that's That's just who Jazz Chishm is.
- 5:23Speaker 4: The more interesting thing, isn't that. I mean, you just
- 5:27Speaker 4: ripped Tony Gwinn for batt.
- 5:28Speaker 5: And three seven every year.
- 5:30Speaker 4: But look at look at the way the Red Sox
- 5:32Speaker 4: are playing. The Red Sox are bringing back small ball
- 5:34Speaker 4: where the Red Sox win games where like three sacrifice bunts,
- 5:38Speaker 4: and it's one of the reasons why the Red Sox
- 5:40Speaker 4: are one of the hottest teams in baseball right now.
- 5:42Speaker 4: But the more interesting thing and the more universal conversation
- 5:46Speaker 4: that I think could come out of the the Yankee
- 5:48Speaker 4: game last night, George Lombard hits his first home run.
- 5:52Speaker 4: The fan that catches it, obviously, George Lombard is gonna
- 5:55Speaker 4: want the ball back. The fan that catches it, he
- 5:59Speaker 4: gives the ball back for just a signed baseball.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Terrible job.
- 6:03Speaker 4: And I'm wondering what you guys would have done, because
- 6:06Speaker 4: at the end of the day, George Lombard Junior is
- 6:08Speaker 4: still a twenty one year old kid, and you're gonna
- 6:10Speaker 4: try to hold him or I guess you're gonna try
- 6:13Speaker 4: to hold the organization hostage to get this ball back.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I think it's situations like this. If I caught that ball,
- 6:18Speaker 2: you just have to hold out and see how much
- 6:20Speaker 2: the ball means.
- 6:20Speaker 3: The Lombard you do.
- 6:22Speaker 6: I mean, for those balls, I'm always just thinking, give
- 6:25Speaker 6: me some tickets, give me you know, a signed something
- 6:28Speaker 6: doesn't have to be this specific baseball. Maybe if Derek
- 6:31Speaker 6: Jeter could sign something and then you mail it to me,
- 6:33Speaker 6: that would all be great. But yeah, I'm not. I'm
- 6:36Speaker 6: not holding out for you know, thousands of dollars.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Oh I am.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I mean, you got him right where you want him,
- 6:42Speaker 2: you have something that he wants.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I mean, the answer has got to be situational. I
- 6:48Speaker 1: catch a Rod's, you know, five hundredth home run, I
- 6:52Speaker 1: want money. I catch George Lombard's first home run. My
- 6:56Speaker 1: answer is threefold. I want tickets, I want something signed,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and I need you as a guest on the podcast.
- 7:02Speaker 5: I have a question with baseball because this drives me crazy.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Sorry Stude.
- 7:06Speaker 6: I was looking up Derek Jeter's rookie season numbers and
- 7:11Speaker 6: it just reminded me, when.
- 7:13Speaker 5: The heck do they decide it's your rookie season. How
- 7:15Speaker 5: much do you have to play in one season?
- 7:17Speaker 4: Ninety five? With that, it's not ninety five, it's ninety
- 7:20Speaker 4: six was his rookie season. Okay, he came up in
- 7:23Speaker 4: ninety five, and I don't think he had the necessary
- 7:26Speaker 4: at bats.
- 7:26Speaker 3: So how many at bats in nineteen ninety five for Jeter?
- 7:29Speaker 6: This is why this is so confusing. When you're a pro,
- 7:31Speaker 6: that's your rookie season. If you want somebody to have
- 7:33Speaker 6: a full rookie season, bring them up at the beginning
- 7:35Speaker 6: of the season. Don't bring them up in July, August, September,
- 7:37Speaker 6: and because if you come up, that's your rookie season.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I'm sorry, right, well, how many at bats did Jeter have?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Do you have it in front of you?
- 7:43Speaker 6: I only have the one that's forty eight that's counted
- 7:45Speaker 6: as his full season.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I don't have the ninety five one.
- 7:48Speaker 4: He played fifteen games and got forty eight at bats
- 7:50Speaker 4: in ninety five.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Okay, what was his batting average in ninety five his
- 7:54Speaker 2: rookie year before the rookie.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Year, his batting average was two fifty.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I mean, I'm surprised they brought him back.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Well, ninety six is when when he was coming in
- 8:03Speaker 4: in ninety six. It was established he's going to be
- 8:05Speaker 4: the starting shortstof is there?
- 8:07Speaker 1: You had that joke locked and loaded. I was just
- 8:09Speaker 1: curious what if Taylor had said he batted four to twelve.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I'm sure you had a joke for both sides.
- 8:15Speaker 7: And I'm just curious with the small sample, do we
- 8:21Speaker 7: have a name for that debut season that's not a
- 8:25Speaker 7: rookie season?
- 8:28Speaker 3: No, never thought of it.
- 8:29Speaker 6: Now I thought, since I yeah, it's a September call up,
- 8:33Speaker 6: I think so the stats shouldn't count for your career totals.
- 8:36Speaker 6: Then I'm sorry, like they got to make a decision.
- 8:38Speaker 6: You're either up and you're a pro and that's your
- 8:40Speaker 6: rookie season, or it's not right.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Did the Marlins call up Miguel Cabrera in September the
- 8:45Speaker 2: year they won the World.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Series at three?
- 8:48Speaker 2: That sounds familiar and you but you're saying, if indeed
- 8:51Speaker 2: that is the case, none of those numbers should count
- 8:53Speaker 2: for his career stats.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Or that should just be his rookie season.
- 8:57Speaker 6: If you get brought up in September, that means you
- 8:59Speaker 6: weren't ready in a I'm sorry, you're just not rookie
- 9:01Speaker 6: of the year or whatever the heck you do in baseball.
- 9:04Speaker 3: It just bugs me. Did you guys, will they expand
- 9:06Speaker 3: the rosters in September?
- 9:07Speaker 1: You're allowed to call.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Up Yes, guys, yes, free of George. Right, you don't
- 9:10Speaker 3: have to drop anyone.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Did you guys see the plane that was flown over
- 9:14Speaker 2: Wrigley Field last night?
- 9:16Speaker 3: No, it had a banner Dodgers are bad for baseball.
- 9:19Speaker 3: M you did see one of those. I did not say.
- 9:21Speaker 5: I did not know that Chicago was taking up for
- 9:23Speaker 5: all of baseball.
- 9:24Speaker 3: The sign was backwards.
- 9:27Speaker 4: The new banner should say the Dodgers are bad at baseball.

- 11:28Speaker 2: The most respected media member in our industry. Tim Kurgein
- 11:32Speaker 2: is with us right now. I'm excited to talk to him. Timmy,
- 11:35Speaker 2: how are you today?
- 11:38Speaker 8: I'm well? Stu Gods, I'm well. Is he how you
- 11:40Speaker 8: guys doing?
- 11:41Speaker 3: We're doing great.
- 11:42Speaker 2: We are told that we have a very strict fifteen
- 11:45Speaker 2: minutes with you. If not, you're gonna get angry with me,
- 11:47Speaker 2: So I will keep it short. Okay, I promise you
- 11:49Speaker 2: don't get mad at me.
- 11:50Speaker 8: To me, oh, I've never been mad at you guys.
- 11:54Speaker 8: God down, something else to do? At twelve forty five?
- 11:58Speaker 3: How dare you? Timmy?
- 11:59Speaker 2: Where do you stand on the topic that everyone's talking
- 12:03Speaker 2: about now that relates to baseball? The Dodgers being banned
- 12:06Speaker 2: for baseball? What does Tim Kirchin stand on that?
- 12:10Speaker 8: Okay, well, it's not healthy that they have a payroll
- 12:15Speaker 8: where theirs is and others are over four hundred million
- 12:19Speaker 8: dollars below them. That cannot be considered healthy for baseball. However,
- 12:25Speaker 8: I'm just not going to blame the Dodgers for this.
- 12:29Speaker 8: They are operating by a set of rules that are
- 12:31Speaker 8: out there, and every other organization, if they had the
- 12:35Speaker 8: same resources and same money, would do exactly the same thing.
- 12:40Speaker 8: They are trying every single day to win, which I
- 12:44Speaker 8: thought was the idea here all along. Now they have
- 12:48Speaker 8: money and resources that nobody else has, they can make
- 12:51Speaker 8: mistake to make up for it. But there's no way
- 12:54Speaker 8: around this either, Fellas. They are the best run organization
- 12:58Speaker 8: in baseball. A draft and develop better than others do,
- 13:02Speaker 8: they teach better than others do. And even though they
- 13:06Speaker 8: have all these advantages built in to be, you know,
- 13:10Speaker 8: to make a mistake and make up for it and
- 13:12Speaker 8: go get ultimately whatever they want, they still are exceptionally
- 13:17Speaker 8: run and they deserve some credit for that.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Tim They're struggling right now, and it feels like the
- 13:22Speaker 4: Cubs are making a bit of a statement this series
- 13:25Speaker 4: beating the Dodgers. Do you think Pa is overtaking show
- 13:28Speaker 4: Hey for the MVP right now?
- 13:31Speaker 8: That's a good question. The the MVP is suddenly up
- 13:34Speaker 8: in the air when it's never up in the air
- 13:37Speaker 8: with show Hey, because he's the most remarkable player that
- 13:40Speaker 8: anyone has ever seen, but yes, I think I don't
- 13:43Speaker 8: think anyone has overtaken show. Hey, but this is a
- 13:47Speaker 8: fluid discussion now where it probably wasn't two or three
- 13:51Speaker 8: months ago. But this we should never know who the
- 13:54Speaker 8: MVP is in April. I as an old school guy
- 14:00Speaker 8: that did you help your team win? Did your team
- 14:04Speaker 8: win and what did you do down the stretch to
- 14:06Speaker 8: help him win? I thought that was part of the
- 14:09Speaker 8: process here and we've kind of lost track of that.
- 14:12Speaker 8: So I'm kind of happy that it's back that we're
- 14:15Speaker 8: going to see who's the best player in the game
- 14:17Speaker 8: in the last two months, and that will, you know,
- 14:20Speaker 8: determine who wins the MVP.
- 14:21Speaker 6: Potentially Speaking of PA, Tim help me out with this,
- 14:33Speaker 6: I really don't get his point on that, whether Babe
- 14:36Speaker 6: Ruth existed or not.
- 14:38Speaker 8: Yeah, well, look you are talking to the wrong guy,
- 14:44Speaker 8: almost seventy years old. For my entire life, I've tried
- 14:48Speaker 8: to explain that the people who came before us in
- 14:51Speaker 8: the sport still really matter. Babe Ruth, for me, this
- 14:55Speaker 8: is for me, is still the greatest player of all time,
- 14:58Speaker 8: and he dominated his era like nobody has ever dominated
- 15:03Speaker 8: their era. I really believe that if they had had
- 15:06Speaker 8: a DH in the American League in nineteen twenty he won,
- 15:09Speaker 8: have won twenty games and hit fifty homers. I really
- 15:12Speaker 8: believe that. And Bert Hawkins, who used to cover baseball
- 15:16Speaker 8: back when Babe Ruth played and became a good friend
- 15:19Speaker 8: of mine as the PR director of the Texas Rangers.
- 15:23Speaker 8: I asked him once, I said, Hawk, who's the greatest
- 15:26Speaker 8: player you've ever seen? And he laughed at me. He goes,
- 15:28Speaker 8: buddy boy, I'll take Babe Ruth and you can have
- 15:31Speaker 8: the next three. That's how good being. And it really
- 15:35Speaker 8: bothers me that we have turned this guy into a
- 15:39Speaker 8: cartoon character that all he did was eat hot dogs
- 15:42Speaker 8: and drink beer during the game, rather than recognizing what
- 15:46Speaker 8: a great athlete he was. He stole one hundred and
- 15:50Speaker 8: he had one hundred and thirty six triples, He stole
- 15:53Speaker 8: one hundred and twenty three bases. He has as many
- 15:56Speaker 8: career shutouts as Pedro Martinez, who's the best pitcher I've
- 16:00Speaker 8: ever seen for a short period of time, and yet
- 16:03Speaker 8: we still want to paint him as someone who would
- 16:06Speaker 8: never get a hit in today's game. Sorry, I'm not
- 16:08Speaker 8: buying that.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Timmy, what year was it when Hawks said to you,
- 16:12Speaker 2: buddy boy, I'll take Ruth the next three.
- 16:16Speaker 8: That was in nineteen eighty two. He was the pr
- 16:19Speaker 8: director of the Rangers. It was my first full, full,
- 16:22Speaker 8: full year on a beat, and I learned so much
- 16:25Speaker 8: from some of the older guys who had been around.
- 16:28Speaker 8: Burt Hawkins taught me an awful lot, and he called
- 16:31Speaker 8: me buddy boy.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Every time Tim Kerchin is with us, Timmy, how the
- 16:36Speaker 2: Red Sox turn their season around?
- 16:39Speaker 8: I'll tell you, tou gotts. I'm a little confused, I
- 16:42Speaker 8: must say. I look at their lineup certain days and
- 16:45Speaker 8: wonder how do they score up runs with this lineup?
- 16:49Speaker 8: I look at their pitching, and I see great young pitching,
- 16:53Speaker 8: especially left handed pitching. Painton totally, all these guys Bennett
- 16:58Speaker 8: that not everyone had heard about. And they're doing this
- 17:01Speaker 8: without Garrett Crochet, who's not just their best pitcher, but
- 17:04Speaker 8: one of the five best pitchers in the league, and
- 17:07Speaker 8: they have still turned this around. Fellas they were thirty
- 17:10Speaker 8: two and forty six, they were arguably the biggest disappointment
- 17:15Speaker 8: of the season, and they have since gone twenty nine
- 17:18Speaker 8: and five. They have the only team ever to enter
- 17:21Speaker 8: a month ten games under five hundred and finished seven
- 17:25Speaker 8: games over no one's ever done. I've never seen an
- 17:28Speaker 8: in season turnaround quite like this, And yet you really
- 17:32Speaker 8: can't just say, oh, well, Roman Anthony came back. He
- 17:36Speaker 8: led the way because he's unbelievably talented, and even that
- 17:39Speaker 8: didn't happen. So this is why baseball is so good.
- 17:43Speaker 8: I have slapped my forehead a dozen times during this streak,
- 17:46Speaker 8: saying I don't know how this is happening, but this
- 17:50Speaker 8: is why baseball is the best.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Yeah, Tim, I love how the Red Sox plays small ball,
- 17:54Speaker 4: and I also love your book. I'm fascinated by sacrifice
- 17:57Speaker 4: flies inside the game we all love. If you were
- 18:01Speaker 4: a baseball executive or a manager and your team was tied,
- 18:04Speaker 4: runner on third, one out, and you needed a sacrifice fly,
- 18:08Speaker 4: great question, who from baseball history would you call on?
- 18:11Speaker 4: Like if you had a pinch hitter and this guy
- 18:13Speaker 4: really needed to deliver a sackfly?
- 18:16Speaker 8: All right, Well, I would take Eddie Murray because he's
- 18:18Speaker 8: a Hall of Famer and Eddie Murray hit more sacrifice
- 18:21Speaker 8: flies than anyone in history, and yet he never led
- 18:26Speaker 8: the league in sacrifice flies in any season. I mean,
- 18:30Speaker 8: how is that possible? The first year, the first year
- 18:34Speaker 8: that they kept sacrifice flies as an official statistic, Gil
- 18:39Speaker 8: Hodges led the league with nineteen, and here it is
- 18:44Speaker 8: sixty one years later, sixty seventy one years later, and
- 18:48Speaker 8: it is still the record nineteen for sacrifice flies in
- 18:53Speaker 8: the season. How amazing is that? So I would take
- 18:56Speaker 8: Eddie Murray first because he's the all time record holder,
- 18:59Speaker 8: and Gil a second because he's a Hall of Famer
- 19:02Speaker 8: and he has the single season record with nineteen.
- 19:05Speaker 2: The idea that he has a second person in the
- 19:08Speaker 2: event that Eddie Murray.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Isn't available is just absolutely amazing.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Timmy, what team is best suited is best constructed to
- 19:21Speaker 2: beat the Dodgers in a best of seven series?
- 19:25Speaker 8: I still think it's the Brewers. The Brewers have the
- 19:28Speaker 8: best record in baseball at the moment. The Brewers have
- 19:31Speaker 8: a starting pitcher, Jacob Yzroowski that nobody can hit, and
- 19:36Speaker 8: if he's healthy and throwing at full velocity, which is
- 19:40Speaker 8: just preposterously high, and they have Kyle Harrison who's pitching
- 19:44Speaker 8: tonight and he's been a really good pitcher coming back
- 19:47Speaker 8: from a couple of injuries. If he's healthy, and they
- 19:50Speaker 8: find a few other pieces for that rotation. They are
- 19:53Speaker 8: good enough to not only get to the World Series
- 19:56Speaker 8: for the first time since nineteen eighty two, but to
- 19:59Speaker 8: win the World Do I think the Dodgers are the
- 20:02Speaker 8: have the best roster? Yes, I do. If you ask
- 20:05Speaker 8: me who I think is going to win the World Series,
- 20:08Speaker 8: I think it's the Dodgers. But the beauty of baseball,
- 20:10Speaker 8: fellas is anything is possible. You know, the Bulls were
- 20:15Speaker 8: gonna win those championship seasons because because they had the
- 20:19Speaker 8: best team and Michael touched it on every possession. It
- 20:22Speaker 8: doesn't work that way in baseball, which is what makes
- 20:25Speaker 8: it so great. So the Brewers have a fighters chance
- 20:28Speaker 8: to beat the Dodgers, and they have the best chance
- 20:31Speaker 8: to beat the Dodgers of any team in the National League.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Tim that parody is why I was pretty disappointed with
- 20:37Speaker 4: the Yankees at the trade deadline, not acquiring a reliever,
- 20:40Speaker 4: not upgrading the catcher position. If you're a Yankee fan
- 20:43Speaker 4: like I am, at what point would you start to
- 20:46Speaker 4: get worried about Aaron Judge and the lack of information
- 20:49Speaker 4: on if Aaron Judge is going to come back this season.
- 20:53Speaker 8: Yeah, it's it's confusing because he really isn't doing baseball
- 20:59Speaker 8: activities yet, and I think, you know, Labor Day is
- 21:03Speaker 8: a possibility that's in a month, that he'll be back
- 21:06Speaker 8: by then, but I'm not even certain of that. And
- 21:09Speaker 8: then there's of course a bigger question given that he's
- 21:12Speaker 8: six seven eighty two and we don't have a whole
- 21:16Speaker 8: lot of big everyday players that are great baseball players
- 21:20Speaker 8: like him. Are all the parts going to fit back together?
- 21:23Speaker 8: And is he going to be a great offensive player
- 21:26Speaker 8: and defensive player when he comes back. I think those
- 21:29Speaker 8: are legitimate questions. So I thought the Yankees would do
- 21:34Speaker 8: I thought they would upgrade their catching also, and they didn't.
- 21:37Speaker 8: But they are really counting on Aaron Judge coming back
- 21:40Speaker 8: and being really good, and I'm just not positive that
- 21:44Speaker 8: that's going to happen.
- 21:45Speaker 6: Tim quite the debut for George Lombard Junior yesterday, so
- 21:50Speaker 6: maybe a good news Yankees question. What are your early
- 21:53Speaker 6: thoughts on him? And is it fair to compare him
- 21:55Speaker 6: to the best Yankees shortstop?
- 21:56Speaker 7: Ever?
- 21:57Speaker 8: Uh, a little early after one, I'm ready guy won
- 22:03Speaker 8: five rings and got well over three thousand hits. However,
- 22:07Speaker 8: I love what the Yankees did there. They need a
- 22:11Speaker 8: jolt of energy somehow, and you can't ask a twenty
- 22:15Speaker 8: one year old to come in and say, all right,
- 22:17Speaker 8: you're the smart plug. Let's go, We're gonna win because
- 22:19Speaker 8: you're here. That's too much. But I've seen him before
- 22:22Speaker 8: many times when just somebody comes up and if he's
- 22:26Speaker 8: not under the enormous pressure of oh, the savior is
- 22:29Speaker 8: here because this is a team that's going to the
- 22:32Speaker 8: playoffs anyway. But he added a jolt last night with
- 22:35Speaker 8: a homer in his second major league at bat. I
- 22:37Speaker 8: think it was the right thing to do. He's wildly talented.
- 22:40Speaker 8: He's comes from a great gene pool with his dad
- 22:44Speaker 8: and his brother, and I expect him to be a
- 22:46Speaker 8: really good player, just like Jeter was. The day that
- 22:50Speaker 8: Jeter showed up, and remember they didn't think he was
- 22:53Speaker 8: ready to play every day in the big leagues, and
- 22:56Speaker 8: he showed them that he was. I think similar things
- 22:59Speaker 8: are gonna happen from George Lombard.
- 23:00Speaker 2: June, Timmy, We'll get you out of here in just
- 23:02Speaker 2: a second. You know, I'm a big Mets fan. The
- 23:05Speaker 2: problem in baseball, as far as I'm concerned, is all
- 23:07Speaker 2: the teams are not trying to win. The Mets are
- 23:09Speaker 2: certainly trying to win. They're just not good at it.
- 23:11Speaker 2: What do they need to do to kind of right
- 23:14Speaker 2: the ship moving forward?
- 23:16Speaker 8: Well, I think they did the right thing Stu Gotts
- 23:19Speaker 8: by moving a bunch of players at the trade deadline,
- 23:22Speaker 8: because they have to get the bad taste out of
- 23:25Speaker 8: their mouth as much as they can from this season
- 23:28Speaker 8: and then rebuild again. But the lesson has to be
- 23:31Speaker 8: they try to rebuild an infield, new first baseman, second baseman,
- 23:35Speaker 8: new third baseman in one offseason, it usually doesn't work
- 23:40Speaker 8: that way. So David Stearns has a lot of work
- 23:43Speaker 8: to do. He's got to go get some pitching, and
- 23:45Speaker 8: he's got to go get some people to go with
- 23:47Speaker 8: the core that they have. They're led by Soto and Lindor,
- 23:51Speaker 8: but they brought up a couple outfielders, Ewing and benj
- 23:54Speaker 8: who showed that they are major league players. That's a
- 23:57Speaker 8: really good thing. But the Mets have a lot of
- 24:00Speaker 8: work to do to get themselves back into a contending
- 24:04Speaker 8: situation of some kind next year.
- 24:06Speaker 2: All right, Timmy, we appreciate it. Check out his wonderful podcast.
- 24:10Speaker 2: He does it with his son. Is this a great
- 24:11Speaker 2: game or what it is? Fantastic? Timmy, I got you
- 24:14Speaker 2: out here a minute early. I mean, how about that?
- 24:18Speaker 8: Well, thanks so much to guys. Is he see you soon?
- 24:21Speaker 8: I'll talk to you guys later.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Okay. Is that like a forklift backing up into you?
- 24:25Speaker 3: What is going on there? He told you had to
- 24:27Speaker 3: be out okay. The great Tim Kirchin. Thanks to him
- 24:32Speaker 3: for joining us
