- 0:00Speaker 1: Get it off your chest.
- 0:01Speaker 2: It's Dirty Little Secret with Billy the Kid in the
- 0:04Speaker 2: Morning on Mix 102.9.
- 0:05Speaker 3: Brought to you by Mint Dentistry.
- 0:08Speaker 4: It is time to confess. And this guy, he just
- 0:10Speaker 4: moves here and he... He's a brand new listener, which
- 0:12Speaker 4: I appreciate very much.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Thank you. But he's like, I got a confession. I'm just,
- 0:16Speaker 3: should I tell you? I'm like, yeah, bring it on.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Let's go. Anytime you want. 833-787-1029. Confess.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, don't hate me, but I got a confession that
- 0:25Speaker 2: makes me sound like one of those insane baseball parents.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Okay.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I basically accepted a bribe to get my son on
- 0:33Speaker 2: a certain team.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Oh. Whoa. Okay.
- 0:37Speaker 3: You accepted a bribe to get him on a team. Why?
- 0:40Speaker 3: How did this go down?
- 0:41Speaker 4: All right.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I don't want to give too many details because people
- 0:45Speaker 2: around here would probably figure out exactly who I'm talking about.
- 0:48Speaker 2: But where we live, baseball is ridiculously competitive. You know,
- 0:53Speaker 2: it's all about who you know. And these kids aren't
- 0:55Speaker 2: even in high school yet. And, you know, they're talking
- 0:58Speaker 2: about colleges, scholarships, you know, and then certain kids, you know,
- 1:02Speaker 2: moving on to like, you know, MLB, you know, and, uh,
- 1:06Speaker 2: my son's really good, really good.
- 1:09Speaker 1: He's, he's, he's naturally gifted. Good. And I love, he
- 1:12Speaker 1: loves baseball. And so he.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Eventually coaches from some pretty high-level premier travel teams started
- 1:19Speaker 2: calling me and basically recruiting him, right?
- 1:22Speaker 3: Wow. Travel teams?
- 1:24Speaker 4: You know, I mean, but I believe it because I
- 1:26Speaker 4: know my son, he stopped playing baseball, but it's the
- 1:28Speaker 4: same with football.
- 1:29Speaker 3: It's even worse around here. Oh, it gets crazy.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Because we're deep in the baseball and hearing.
- 1:33Speaker 3: About all the drama.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Oh, it starts. The drama starts. You got to get
- 1:37Speaker 4: on certain teams to get good looks. They start talking
- 1:39Speaker 4: about high school. It's wild. So- Coaches start calling you,
- 1:44Speaker 4: which is good for you. I mean, if your kid's
- 1:46Speaker 4: great and he loves it.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 2: There was this one particular high profile team my son
- 1:51Speaker 2: really wanted to go for. And the coach reached out
- 1:54Speaker 2: to me and we had some conversations. And it turns
- 1:56Speaker 2: out we both work.
- 1:57Speaker 1: In the same industry.
- 1:59Speaker 2: And that's when things got weird because doing one of
- 2:02Speaker 2: the conversations, he basically told me, hey, if your son
- 2:05Speaker 2: plays for my team, I can guarantee a position at
- 2:08Speaker 2: my company.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 2:12Speaker 4: So he, he guaranteed you a position. So your kid
- 2:17Speaker 4: plays for my team. Then dad will get a job.
- 2:19Speaker 4: You'll get a job with his company.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Right. Right.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I thought it was a joke at first. You know
- 2:25Speaker 1: what I'm saying? Like, We're talking about kids playing baseball here, okay? Yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I'd be like, are you serious? I wouldn't even expect that, so... No.
- 2:33Speaker 2: In my defense, this was probably the team we were
- 2:35Speaker 2: going to choose anyway. My son wanted to go play there,
- 2:38Speaker 2: and it's a great opportunity for.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Him, so we picked a team, okay?
- 2:41Speaker 2: We picked a team, and the coach was a man
- 2:44Speaker 2: of his word.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Like... Soon after, I got a position at his company,
- 2:48Speaker 1: basically doubled my salary.
- 2:49Speaker 4: So you're working for him now. So you're working with
- 2:54Speaker 4: the coach, his company, and he was legit.
- 2:57Speaker 3: It was a legit offer.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Is this legal?
- 3:01Speaker 3: It feels illegal. I mean, they do this all the time.
- 3:04Speaker 4: My 14-year-old son, his friend, his dad got a job,
- 3:08Speaker 4: a brand new job in Chicago.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Melissa, Texas. And they moved out there. He's real good
- 3:13Speaker 3: in football. Oh, okay. Well, that was to move.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Now, I've heard of that happening before. Like, hey, we
- 3:18Speaker 3: want you to play for our school.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:20Speaker 3: So move schools. But you'd need a reason to move
- 3:22Speaker 3: out here.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Like travel baseball?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:25Speaker 3: It gets serious early. Wow.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Wow.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Okay. You're committed to this. And now, what if something
- 3:32Speaker 3: happens with the baseball team? Right.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Your son doesn't. I mean, I guess you're going to
- 3:36Speaker 4: build a relationship with this guy either way. But I mean,
- 3:39Speaker 4: good for you, I guess, for doubling your salary.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 3:41Speaker 3: It's hard to pass up.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Listen, man, my son is thrilled. He's playing for a
- 3:45Speaker 2: team he wanted. That's what it's all about. I'm in
- 3:47Speaker 2: a much better position.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Financially and career wise. Everybody wins.
- 3:51Speaker 2: OK, so the only thing, though, is that I haven't
- 3:54Speaker 2: told anyone how it happened and not even my wife.
- 3:58Speaker 2: And she thinks my new job and her son making
- 4:01Speaker 2: this team happen around the same time by complete coincidence.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Really?
- 4:06Speaker 3: So she, okay. She doesn't know?
- 4:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sort of pointing to letting this stay
- 4:14Speaker 2: like that.
- 4:16Speaker 3: All right. That's, it seems like a lot, but I mean,
- 4:18Speaker 3: I don't.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Yeah, that's definitely a conversation we have together before we
- 4:21Speaker 4: agree to it.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Let me ask Candace, cause you're a baseball mom.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:25Speaker 4: If this happens in, you know, there's a situation where
- 4:28Speaker 4: your son could get on a good team or a
- 4:31Speaker 4: certain team and, Hey, you know, I can get you, Eric,
- 4:34Speaker 4: I can get you a job doing this if your
- 4:36Speaker 4: son picks our team and it works out good for everyone.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Do you do it? That's hard to pass up.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Wow.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Both ends. You know, she can be bought. Candace can
- 4:46Speaker 3: be bought.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I mean, these coaches are picking who they want on
- 4:49Speaker 4: their travel teams anyways, right?
- 4:51Speaker 3: They are.
- 4:51Speaker 4: That's true.
- 4:52Speaker 3: They are.
- 4:52Speaker 4: I just.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 4: If he's good enough to play on the team and
- 4:57Speaker 4: that's the team we want.
- 4:58Speaker 3: To play on. That's fair.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 3: If he's not good enough or there's some reverse situation. Exactly.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Where you're bribing the coach, that feels way different.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Okay. But what if something happens to your kid?
- 5:11Speaker 2: Like.
- 5:12Speaker 3: An injury. You get fired from your job. No. Everything's baking.
- 5:17Speaker 3: So what if something happens to the son? I mean,
- 5:19Speaker 3: how much do you trust this guy? Yeah. That's what
- 5:21Speaker 3: I'm saying. You're fired. Yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Geez.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Well, I mean, for now, he's making more money.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Worry about that when the day comes. Yeah, look at that.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Well, sir, thank you so much and appreciate your confession
- 5:35Speaker 4: and let us know what happens and hopefully you'll have
- 5:37Speaker 4: a great season.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 1: All right. Thank you.
