- 0:06Speaker 1: Welcome to the No Dribble Summer Series. We're not actually
- 0:09Speaker 1: here because we're having a well earned not that well earned,
- 0:12Speaker 1: but a break anyway.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Where a U cat? Well, I've got butt sweat at
- 0:16Speaker 2: the moment. It's hot. I think I need a cocktail
- 0:18Speaker 2: it is. Where's my pool.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Boy, Lizzie, you're off somewhere.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Where are you oop?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Sorry?
- 0:25Speaker 3: Justin Tazzi drinking so much local whiskey that we'll probably
- 0:28Speaker 3: see a Tasmanian tiger and forget what I'm about to say.
- 0:32Speaker 3: This is the No Dribble Summer Series.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Enjoy, guys, Hello and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast
- 0:42Speaker 1: where we talk about netball and we talk about so
- 0:44Speaker 1: much more. This is, of course, of pretend, because we
- 0:47Speaker 1: recorded this months ago. We're on holidays now, we're not
- 0:51Speaker 1: thinking about netball. This is our summer series. This is
- 0:54Speaker 1: the very first of our summer series, and we are
- 0:57Speaker 1: beyond excited about this guest. I'm Reland Swindl.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Well, I'm cath Cox and I don't know who it is,
- 1:04Speaker 2: but I trust.
- 1:05Speaker 1: You and up on the far North Coast, oh is me?
- 1:08Speaker 4: Is this?
- 1:09Speaker 3: And I know who Our guess is that I'm excited.
- 1:11Speaker 1: You are excited, So we'll introduce our guests properly in
- 1:14Speaker 1: a moment. But as this tradition for the summer season, Catherine,
- 1:18Speaker 1: you need to guess who is so concentrating our special guest. Well,
- 1:24Speaker 1: let's start with something very interesting. One hundred and seventy
- 1:27Speaker 1: six centimeters tall. Yeah, not helpful, okay. Our special Guest
- 1:32Speaker 1: has a couple of gold medals hanging around at home
- 1:35Speaker 1: from the nineteen ninety one and nineteen ninety five Netball
- 1:38Speaker 1: World Championships.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Ooh, they're all retired.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Okay, okay, got it. No, stop playing with your mask.
- 1:48Speaker 1: You can't cheat. Our special guest retired in nineteen ninety eight.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Retired from playing professional netball in nineteen ninety eight. That
- 2:01Speaker 1: was the year after something very special happened in Melbourne.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I won't tell you what that was because that will
- 2:09Speaker 1: immediately give it away. Our special Guest has still been very,
- 2:12Speaker 1: very heavily and successfully involved in netball at the highest
- 2:16Speaker 1: levels in this country, down to a couple gosh over
- 2:20Speaker 1: over ten years now, maybe twelve. Our special Guest is
- 2:25Speaker 1: a libra that never helps me. Okay. Our special Guest
- 2:28Speaker 1: is played wing defense.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Okay, yes, yes, okay, I think I'm there.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Our special guest inspired the nation earlier this year when
- 2:39Speaker 1: wondering how to motivate a team of individuals or get well, no,
- 2:43Speaker 1: they were already motivated, but how to get them to
- 2:45Speaker 1: Gel suggested that they might need to go somewhere where
- 2:49Speaker 1: our Special guests would drink her drink of choice, a
- 2:53Speaker 1: glass of bubbles.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah. I had it then, and I could have told
- 2:55Speaker 2: you it was the Bubbles. It's the mckinna, it is McInnis. Hey,
- 3:01Speaker 2: holy hello, and in special honor. This makes sense to me.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Now.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Carolyn's got her T shirt on.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I do, and you very kindly let us use your
- 3:11Speaker 1: Maybe we just need to go to the pub to
- 3:14Speaker 1: do a T shirt where we raised some funds for
- 3:16Speaker 1: the Confident Girls Foundation. And it was very generous of
- 3:19Speaker 1: you to just let us use your IP there because
- 3:22Speaker 1: it really was quite inspirational for a generation of netball fans.
- 3:27Speaker 5: I reckon trip to the pub always work. I don't
- 3:31Speaker 5: think I'm the first person that's ever said let's go
- 3:34Speaker 5: to the pub.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you have in a press conference been the
- 3:37Speaker 2: first person to ever say that, which is where we
- 3:39Speaker 2: distinguish you, and which is what I love so much
- 3:42Speaker 2: about you though. Simone is that you really don't know
- 3:45Speaker 2: what you're going to get sometimes, but then you also
- 3:47Speaker 2: get the truth. There's no smoke and mirrors with you.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And I think in that moment everyone fell more in
- 3:53Speaker 2: love with you as a coach. Absolutely, but also I
- 3:57Speaker 2: think really fell. I mean we all coach and you've
- 4:00Speaker 2: had those moments where you've wanted to go to the pub.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I've had wine in my drink bottle at trading plenty
- 4:04Speaker 2: of times. No I haven't.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I tried it with my under twelve. So not long
- 4:07Speaker 1: after you said that and apparently that's inappropriate and I was.
- 4:11Speaker 5: Called probably not appropriate?
- 4:14Speaker 1: Are be coaching next year?
- 4:15Speaker 2: Can we take you back to that moment though, because
- 4:17Speaker 2: obviously that's what you genuinely thought. After that, was there
- 4:22Speaker 2: more chat about where you were at as a team
- 4:25Speaker 2: or did you kind of just leave it? And then
- 4:27Speaker 2: everyone was it almost like that comment just was like okay,
- 4:30Speaker 2: everyone just came just relax a bit. How did that work?
- 4:34Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 4:34Speaker 5: There was different elements post that press conference, and really
- 4:39Speaker 5: in that press conference when I said that it just
- 4:41Speaker 5: been like the toughest week, it had been the worst
- 4:44Speaker 5: result match wise. It was like I had to announce it.
- 4:47Speaker 5: I'm just getting questions and I'm saying, oh, we're feeling
- 4:50Speaker 5: we're lifeless with this, and I'm just hearing my something
- 4:52Speaker 5: it ape that bad just gave a bit for So
- 4:56Speaker 5: it just was a bit of a circuit breaker. But
- 4:58Speaker 5: we did after that weekend. We did on our Tuesday
- 5:02Speaker 5: when we got together, we had a really good session
- 5:05Speaker 5: together where we did speak about lots of different elements,
- 5:09Speaker 5: elements from my perspective, but where people were in their
- 5:13Speaker 5: own experience and own time, and there were some pretty
- 5:16Speaker 5: willing conversations as well. I've got to be honest, at
- 5:19Speaker 5: one stage, I'm like, oh, oh, I shouldn't have started this.
- 5:22Speaker 5: This is good, but it actually was. It was just
- 5:25Speaker 5: everything went out, the good, the bad, you know, the tears,
- 5:28Speaker 5: the whatever. Everything came out in that meeting on the Tuesday.
- 5:32Speaker 5: And then the girls had follow up as well, one
- 5:35Speaker 5: with our performance psychologist, you know, about what they wanted
- 5:39Speaker 5: to get out of the rest of the year, and
- 5:41Speaker 5: also too from it. We have a guy, Shane McCurry
- 5:44Speaker 5: that works with us in the leadership and cultural space,
- 5:47Speaker 5: and they did go and have ended up going to
- 5:50Speaker 5: the pub and having a meal together. So there was
- 5:52Speaker 5: a few different elements that sort of kicked us off
- 5:55Speaker 5: that week post that go to the pub comment.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Can you tell us about some of the willing commentversations
- 6:00Speaker 2: or that took place.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Oh, you know what, it's It's obviously there was more
- 6:05Speaker 5: than one thing that was off with the group. You know,
- 6:08Speaker 5: everyone's trying hard, everyone wants to win them, you know,
- 6:12Speaker 5: next game, next game. But I also knew there was
- 6:14Speaker 5: a little bit of niggle as well, because you see,
- 6:17Speaker 5: our trainings are really competitive and really tough. But I
- 6:21Speaker 5: also saw that there was a bit of niggle luck
- 6:24Speaker 5: with a couple of plays. But you know, in the
- 6:27Speaker 5: meeting when that was brought up, it was without going
- 6:31Speaker 5: on and it's hard not to go into the detail,
- 6:33Speaker 5: but they'll both they compete against each other in training
- 6:37Speaker 5: and they're getting cranky with each other, but they ultimately
- 6:40Speaker 5: they wanted the same thing. They wanted to help prepare,
- 6:43Speaker 5: like the goala wanted to prepare the defender for what
- 6:47Speaker 5: we wanted in the game, and the defender wanted to
- 6:49Speaker 5: prepare the shooter for what they want to come up
- 6:51Speaker 5: with them. Again, they wanted the same thing, and once
- 6:53Speaker 5: that was voice and expressed, it was all go so
- 6:57Speaker 5: there was those sort of conversations and it's just convers
- 7:00Speaker 5: that someone had been struggling and needed time off, all
- 7:04Speaker 5: of that sort of thing, and it was just out
- 7:05Speaker 5: in the open. Everyone knew where everybody was at and
- 7:09Speaker 5: you know, and it was just a collective decision, We're
- 7:11Speaker 5: going to have fun here. For me, I'm going to
- 7:13Speaker 5: enjoy it if this is my last season coaching, and
- 7:16Speaker 5: however many rounds, we're going to enjoy it because that's
- 7:19Speaker 5: why we start playing, why we keep playing, and regardless
- 7:23Speaker 5: if we're going to the girls amongst themselves, one of
- 7:25Speaker 5: the key things that goes if we're gonna lose, we're
- 7:27Speaker 5: going to have fun doing it, all right?
- 7:29Speaker 1: So great?
- 7:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So Simone, when you made the coming out,
- 7:33Speaker 3: we should just all go the pub. You had also
- 7:35Speaker 3: just announced that you were stepping down as Vincent's coach
- 7:38Speaker 3: and had that How hard was that process for you
- 7:41Speaker 3: to go through when you weren't having the results that
- 7:43Speaker 3: you wanted as well? It feels like there was a
- 7:45Speaker 3: lot that you were dealing with as a coach.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yeah, there was.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Probably a lot. There was a bit of a process
- 7:50Speaker 5: in the background about what was going on and what
- 7:53Speaker 5: was happening with the program, which was challenging, and I
- 7:57Speaker 5: feel like some of that energy my energy, and as
- 8:00Speaker 5: much as I'm like, okay, putting on a front and
- 8:03Speaker 5: turning up and doing everything and everything's okay, I think
- 8:07Speaker 5: there was that bit of my energy that was going
- 8:11Speaker 5: off to the players because that is that is. There
- 8:13Speaker 5: was one game that we played and I just thought, God,
- 8:18Speaker 5: they're playing the way that I'm feeling interesting because that
- 8:22Speaker 5: just that does happen. And so there was that that
- 8:26Speaker 5: week before that lightning game. I did have to tell
- 8:29Speaker 5: the girls during the week, which was hard, but it
- 8:33Speaker 5: was great as well. I mean, a couple of the
- 8:34Speaker 5: girls knew, but it was you know, everybody was really great,
- 8:39Speaker 5: and you know, you've sort of put yourself out there
- 8:41Speaker 5: and you're really vulnerable, and I think that was a
- 8:43Speaker 5: big element of the girls game behind me as well,
- 8:46Speaker 5: understanding and so we sort of all had each other's back.
- 8:50Speaker 5: But then having to shocking game lighting a terrible week.
- 8:56Speaker 5: Terrible game was probably will we hit rock bottom there?
- 8:58Speaker 5: And then having to go yes and finishing on.
- 9:01Speaker 2: The coaching stuff. I mean, I don't know the background
- 9:04Speaker 2: to your scenario and why things that played out the
- 9:07Speaker 2: way they did, but in light of that, and then
- 9:10Speaker 2: you know, maybe stuff happening with the Mavericks with Tracy
- 9:13Speaker 2: Neville and then what we've seen across the ditch with
- 9:15Speaker 2: Nolene Tadawa. Do you feel like there needs to be
- 9:18Speaker 2: some more support around the coaches similar to a player's association.
- 9:23Speaker 5: I do, and Julie f it's and I've always sort
- 9:25Speaker 5: of spoken about this that there is that is a space.
- 9:28Speaker 5: I think that there does need to be some more
- 9:31Speaker 5: sport more support around. I'm not sure what that looks like,
- 9:34Speaker 5: whether you know coaches association, but it is it's a hard,
- 9:40Speaker 5: challenging process and there's a lot and rightfully so, being
- 9:44Speaker 5: put in for players and programs. And I'm not saying
- 9:49Speaker 5: I never got the support, because I did have the support,
- 9:53Speaker 5: but I think there is a bit of a gap
- 9:55Speaker 5: there because it is and as the game grows, as
- 9:59Speaker 5: it's becoming more or the coverage and everything's written about
- 10:03Speaker 5: in the social media. It's just it's that pressure and
- 10:06Speaker 5: extra element on the place. But it also is for
- 10:08Speaker 5: the coaches as well.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Is that something you would ever do?
- 10:11Speaker 5: What's that head up?
- 10:13Speaker 2: Something like a coaches association?
- 10:14Speaker 5: Oh, I'd like to I think it would be. I
- 10:16Speaker 5: think there's space for it. I don't know how that
- 10:18Speaker 5: works or what it looks like, but I think there's
- 10:22Speaker 5: the place for it.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Yeah, so what are you going to do something now
- 10:25Speaker 3: that you've you've finished coaching. You're very relaxed.
- 10:30Speaker 5: I I'm doing nothing, and I'm doing it pretty well.
- 10:38Speaker 5: Actually I did. It's taken you know. I am relaxed.
- 10:42Speaker 5: I am happily doing nothing. I've got time to do
- 10:46Speaker 5: all that stuff, whether it's garden or just had to
- 10:49Speaker 5: take it. Took a little while to not have because
- 10:51Speaker 5: I'm obviously with when you're coaching, it's all very structured
- 10:55Speaker 5: and you've got I know exactly what's happening this day,
- 10:58Speaker 5: next day, whatever it's like. When Kath MESSI to me,
- 11:00Speaker 5: reminded me about today, oh big day tomorrow, I've got
- 11:06Speaker 5: I've got right in the middle of the course.
- 11:11Speaker 1: The cat would never have messaged you to remind you
- 11:14Speaker 1: because she never has any idea who our mystery guests
- 11:17Speaker 1: are and whenever I.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Very been lifted.
- 11:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I ignored the message him. I think she was
- 11:28Speaker 5: just trying to find out.
- 11:48Speaker 3: So so just go back to that grown final then.
- 11:50Speaker 3: I mean, you played in some bloody amazing games as
- 11:53Speaker 3: a player, that your last ever game was that ninety
- 11:55Speaker 3: eight Commonwalth Games final where we just got over the
- 11:58Speaker 3: line against New Zealand and night and grateful for the
- 12:00Speaker 3: fact that I spent many years having the ball slowed
- 12:02Speaker 3: down by you so that I could look good behind you.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Life of a wing defense exactly, life of a wing
- 12:09Speaker 3: So Carolyn Peter reminding us it.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Is I'm the wing defense of this podcast. Bring them up.
- 12:15Speaker 5: That's right.
- 12:15Speaker 3: You make us all look good.
- 12:16Speaker 2: It's true.
- 12:17Speaker 3: So when you think about the unbelievable games you played in,
- 12:20Speaker 3: you know, you won World Cup and come off games,
- 12:23Speaker 3: gold medals and Grand Finals. Is it the same feeling
- 12:27Speaker 3: as a coach or is it a bit different?
- 12:29Speaker 2: Great question?
- 12:30Speaker 1: I really like that question.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Yeah, you know what it is. I have thought about that.
- 12:36Speaker 5: It's it's the same, but it's different, and in some
- 12:40Speaker 5: ways I've found it more satisfying, more rewarding. As a coach.
- 12:45Speaker 5: I think I can think of the wins and come
- 12:47Speaker 5: off games, and you remember how much fun you had.
- 12:51Speaker 5: But I think as a coach, just the work that
- 12:53Speaker 5: you put into it, and it's not about you and
- 12:58Speaker 5: just that you. I love to see the players have
- 13:03Speaker 5: that feeling. That's what means the most to me. To
- 13:06Speaker 5: see the athletes in that Grand Final that not been
- 13:09Speaker 5: there before, Oh my god, and to have that experience.
- 13:12Speaker 5: That's always I want the best for the athletes that
- 13:14Speaker 5: I coach, and I want them to have the experiences
- 13:18Speaker 5: that I had and that they'll never forget. So in
- 13:21Speaker 5: some ways, as a coach, it is more.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Warning, simone. I will tell anyone who listens how great
- 13:28Speaker 2: your pregame speeches are, Like everyone is listening intently, you
- 13:33Speaker 2: could hear a dime drop, like it's just it's such
- 13:36Speaker 2: an incredible atmosphere and you always get uplifted and you
- 13:39Speaker 2: read a rock and go. But then before the Grand Final,
- 13:42Speaker 2: I asked you sorry. After the Grand Final when we
- 13:45Speaker 2: were interviewing you, I asked you what you said before
- 13:48Speaker 2: the Grand Final and you said you hadn't planned anything
- 13:51Speaker 2: for that one.
- 13:52Speaker 5: No, No, it was just such a busy week.
- 14:01Speaker 4: It was.
- 14:02Speaker 5: It was a busy work and we had the one
- 14:05Speaker 5: session and then we had the media on the Friday,
- 14:08Speaker 5: and then you had to be up there early for
- 14:09Speaker 5: the I don't know, it just didn't it was. I
- 14:12Speaker 5: just knew it would come to me and I would
- 14:15Speaker 5: know it when I'm with the players what needs to
- 14:17Speaker 5: be said. But the bottom line was for me because
- 14:20Speaker 5: even we had that Grand Final lunch that Dan and
- 14:23Speaker 5: I had to had to speak at and then there's
- 14:26Speaker 5: a bit of time then before players arrived, well I'm thinking,
- 14:29Speaker 5: all right, what do I need to touch on? But
- 14:31Speaker 5: then just when the players getting them. Basically my message
- 14:34Speaker 5: was that you know, they've been incredible, but that I
- 14:36Speaker 5: believe that they were the team that could beat Fever
- 14:39Speaker 5: and I knew that they believed it as well, and
- 14:44Speaker 5: so it was just about, you know, let's go for
- 14:47Speaker 5: it. It was it was shortened swush.
- 14:49Speaker 1: How much did the heartbreak of the year before come
- 14:52Speaker 1: into play in twenty twenty five? How do you what
- 14:56Speaker 1: do you do with those emotions?
- 14:58Speaker 5: It is, you know what, there's nothing, there's nothing worse
- 15:01Speaker 5: like there is a lot worse than to be losing
- 15:03Speaker 5: Grand final that leg bullwise. As a coach, that Grand final,
- 15:08Speaker 5: it just it just sits with you for a long
- 15:12Speaker 5: time as a coach afterwards, it just sits with you
- 15:15Speaker 5: and you can't look at it. You don't want to
- 15:17Speaker 5: read anything, you don't want to see anything, you don't
- 15:19Speaker 5: want to think about it, and it wasn't until we
- 15:22Speaker 5: came back after Christmas and Die and I said, Die,
- 15:25Speaker 5: we have to sit and we have to watch we
- 15:27Speaker 5: have said. So we sat and we'd get through one minute,
- 15:32Speaker 5: oh can't watch. And it took us about ten times
- 15:37Speaker 5: to get through ten goes at it to get through
- 15:40Speaker 5: the whole game. But it does. It weighs heavy. And
- 15:43Speaker 5: we did speak about it at the start of the
- 15:45Speaker 5: year that that's and I had a photo of us
- 15:48Speaker 5: as a team standing there watching Thunderbirds getting represented with
- 15:53Speaker 5: their trophy, because that's the worst thing because you just
- 15:55Speaker 5: want to go and you want to go and crawl
- 15:57Speaker 5: in a hole and hide and go away and let
- 16:00Speaker 5: it be over. But you stand there watching an team
- 16:04Speaker 5: be where you want to be. So it was just
- 16:06Speaker 5: a reminder that we don't want to be in that
- 16:08Speaker 5: position again. Mind you. Halfway through the season, I was like,
- 16:12Speaker 5: that doesn't mean we want to cub last year.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Oh my god, hey what about dime now? Then stepping
- 16:21Speaker 2: into your shoes.
- 16:23Speaker 5: Yeah, it's really exciting for Die, really exciting, and it
- 16:27Speaker 5: was challenging for her because she was having to go
- 16:29Speaker 5: through that process while we were still working through the season.
- 16:34Speaker 5: So yeah, a great opportunity for him, And yeah, it'll
- 16:38Speaker 5: be you know, wish you're all the best.
- 16:40Speaker 2: No doubt you'll be on speed dial for those wines
- 16:42Speaker 2: right throughout the season.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Well you can join me now. Netball's very fun with
- 16:48Speaker 1: a can of gin in your hand when you're not
- 16:51Speaker 1: when you're not that invested, when you're invested as a
- 16:53Speaker 1: fan but not not as a professional.
- 16:56Speaker 5: I know it will be interesting to see what it's like.
- 17:00Speaker 2: That you had watched all of Australian New Zealand play
- 17:03Speaker 2: the Constellation Cup. What about and the South African Series?
- 17:07Speaker 2: Of course? What about your great mate Shelley o'donald and
- 17:11Speaker 2: her daughter taking to the court for the first ever
- 17:14Speaker 2: mum daughter duo. You've obviously had the pleasure of coaching Hannah.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Are they as similar as what they seem?
- 17:21Speaker 5: They are similar. They are similar, and Shelley is a
- 17:26Speaker 5: really great support and sounding board for Hannah. Hannah absolutely
- 17:31Speaker 5: is a full on student of the game and she
- 17:35Speaker 5: examines it. She knows the ins and out. She's just
- 17:38Speaker 5: a netball fiend. And that there is that sense of humor,
- 17:42Speaker 5: that sense of fun. Tell us no, no, they are
- 17:48Speaker 5: alike in some way. But I also think that Hannah
- 17:51Speaker 5: is very much her own person as well, and was
- 17:53Speaker 5: very conscious and I was always very conscious to not
- 17:57Speaker 5: compare and to not because I remember one time I
- 18:01Speaker 5: made a joke to early days. I think she was
- 18:03Speaker 5: still a training partner and she was late to training
- 18:06Speaker 5: because she was so conscientious and all of that, and
- 18:08Speaker 5: she was late to training, and I made a joke
- 18:10Speaker 5: about what you have a late night? But like that
- 18:14Speaker 5: was quite offensive for her because it was like just
- 18:16Speaker 5: because you know, Shelley was known for partying. So I
- 18:20Speaker 5: was just very mindful of not making those sort of
- 18:22Speaker 5: reflections on Hannah. She's very much her own person. She
- 18:25Speaker 5: works hard and her knowledge of the game, but has
- 18:30Speaker 5: great fun in amongst the group as well, can be
- 18:32Speaker 5: a bit of a clown.
- 18:33Speaker 1: That's the flip side of the great mother daughter history
- 18:36Speaker 1: making moment, isn't it that It's like the pressure then,
- 18:38Speaker 1: And yeah, so thank you. That's very a lovely little
- 18:42Speaker 1: insight there.
- 18:44Speaker 5: But it was so good for Hannah to get hurt,
- 18:45Speaker 5: to debut and to have Shelley there's that's amazing.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it was amazing. It was just to sit behind
- 18:53Speaker 3: Shelley and just to see her watch her daughter. It
- 18:55Speaker 3: was just phenomenal Samaneur as a player who had a
- 18:58Speaker 3: bit of fun. And I do I have said this
- 19:00Speaker 3: to you before. I love that you've become a coach
- 19:02Speaker 3: because I wouldn't have picked it, But did that make
- 19:04Speaker 3: you better at picking who was being naughty? And when
- 19:07Speaker 3: you like I have seen all of this before?
- 19:11Speaker 5: Yeah, No, you know what, I don't you turn up,
- 19:16Speaker 5: You come to training, You turn up, and you do
- 19:18Speaker 5: absolutely be a professional everything about what you're doing at training.
- 19:22Speaker 5: I'm not going to question what you're doing outside unless
- 19:25Speaker 5: I need to something something comes up that I need to,
- 19:28Speaker 5: but that when you can, You've got to absolutely be
- 19:31Speaker 5: one hundred percent and all in and one way together
- 19:34Speaker 5: when we're training and what you're doing outside of it.
- 19:36Speaker 5: But you're like, you also have to have your life
- 19:41Speaker 5: and what that looks like for you. Obviously nothing that's
- 19:44Speaker 5: going to be a detriment to you or the team,
- 19:46Speaker 5: but you've got to have your life and you've got
- 19:48Speaker 5: to have your space. And I'm not gonna I'm not
- 19:51Speaker 5: I've never been one to be oh has she been
- 19:54Speaker 5: out or what is she doing? Or what's she doing?
- 19:56Speaker 2: I do know, no doubt because you're with them.
- 20:02Speaker 5: I can pick it.
- 20:05Speaker 3: I got a nose for that sort of thing.
- 20:07Speaker 5: Yeah, but that's also part being a team as well.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Love that here.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Absolutely. It's like, you know, my mum always knew what
- 20:15Speaker 3: I was up to. I was like, how do you know?
- 20:16Speaker 3: And then you become a mother and you go, oh, yeah, okay,
- 20:18Speaker 3: you know we've stid it all before. It's the same
- 20:20Speaker 3: as to cope and you know you've not been there
- 20:22Speaker 3: and done that nothing. If your shenanigans are you yeah,
- 20:25Speaker 3: mind you.
- 20:27Speaker 5: I'd mind you. I don't think they get up to
- 20:29Speaker 5: the shenanigans that we used to do.
- 20:32Speaker 1: That's what I was going to ask, because my experience
- 20:34Speaker 1: with a lot of people in their twenties is that
- 20:36Speaker 1: they seem to drink less alcohol than my peers did
- 20:40Speaker 1: in the Topically, I wasn't a professional athlete, but yeah,
- 20:43Speaker 1: I just think this generation seems to be a little
- 20:46Speaker 1: bit less likely to drink heavily. And that's something you
- 20:50Speaker 1: think that maybe this generation of professional athletes are more
- 20:55Speaker 1: business like.
- 20:56Speaker 5: Well, that's just it's their livelihood as well. Now, Yeah,
- 21:01Speaker 5: but for us it was you know, we didn't necessarily
- 21:04Speaker 5: get paid and playing a National League game if it
- 21:07Speaker 5: was away game, you're more concerned about what you're packing
- 21:09Speaker 5: to wear out after whereas I was surprised with coaching
- 21:14Speaker 5: that they don't go out afterwards. But that's a thing
- 21:16Speaker 5: of the pass, like or after a first test, all right,
- 21:19Speaker 5: we all go out after the first test. You still
- 21:21Speaker 5: got tests two and three. But it's it's just a
- 21:25Speaker 5: hot It is a different, different.
- 21:26Speaker 2: World now for all the amount of times we had fun,
- 21:30Speaker 2: we'd show the Conus club who was boss after an
- 21:32Speaker 2: Aussie camp in camera when flying home that bar got
- 21:36Speaker 2: drunk drive more than a few times. And that's not
- 21:39Speaker 2: the sort of recovery. The athletes, all.
- 21:41Speaker 1: These usually tall women descending on the white wine.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Well, the first ones were the ones who didn't get selected,
- 21:49Speaker 3: so they come in and drown their sorrows. The second
- 21:51Speaker 3: group would come through and celebrating. So having having sat
- 21:55Speaker 3: in boats groups, so much for fresh to be in
- 21:57Speaker 3: the second group. But sometimes the bars there when you're
- 21:59Speaker 3: in the but do you reckon? It's also social media
- 22:02Speaker 3: as well, Somon like, these athletes really don't want to
- 22:04Speaker 3: be caught out doing things that they shouldn't, whereas if
- 22:06Speaker 3: social media had been around when little playing.
- 22:08Speaker 5: Oh that's where I don't I don't. I would hate
- 22:13Speaker 5: to have that all around me as a player because
- 22:16Speaker 5: it's just and there's just so much and I don't
- 22:20Speaker 5: I don't get into it that much. But they also
- 22:23Speaker 5: the girls all are, but there's so much that goes
- 22:26Speaker 5: around it. And yeah, I think that is a part
- 22:29Speaker 5: of it as well, you just can't afford to. But
- 22:32Speaker 5: I also think it's just it's a different mindset that
- 22:36Speaker 5: in this time this season, you're a professional, and then
- 22:40Speaker 5: there's an off season.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Well you're a professional too, Simone, and we know you've
- 22:47Speaker 1: been under a lot of pressure, but we're about to
- 22:49Speaker 1: put you possibly under the greatest pressure you've ever experienced
- 22:53Speaker 1: in your life.
- 22:54Speaker 5: Oh, I know what.
- 22:55Speaker 2: You're going into my hot box.
- 22:57Speaker 1: It's Coxy's hot box and chill blame there.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Yes, look at her. I would be scared too if
- 23:04Speaker 2: I was you. So it's quick fire questions. She's like,
- 23:09Speaker 2: I thank god, I thought it was actually going into
- 23:11Speaker 2: your hot box.
- 23:12Speaker 1: That's so interesting, And you want to elaborate or we
- 23:14Speaker 1: want to do some diversion.
- 23:17Speaker 2: That's quick fire until we decide it's not all right.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Are you ready? Okay? Coffee order scheme, cappuccino summer or
- 23:25Speaker 2: winter summer, your breakfast, go to eggs, yours boiled eggs.
- 23:32Speaker 1: A boiled eggs soft because no hard boiled, so they're
- 23:39Speaker 1: almost rocks, so that the light goes gray around the
- 23:42Speaker 1: yolk like that, and then you just crack them and
- 23:46Speaker 1: eat them by themselves.
- 23:48Speaker 5: Late breakfast, though, I've just because I exercise first walk
- 23:51Speaker 5: the doms, exercise late morning, have my boiled eggs on toast.
- 23:55Speaker 2: There you go, nice. What kind of dogs have you got?
- 23:59Speaker 5: I've a Jack Russell, he's just a young pup and
- 24:02Speaker 5: a Labrador Judy Adam Chester.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Trudy Judy, because that's actually Judy is the lamb.
- 24:15Speaker 5: Chester talking about you.
- 24:16Speaker 1: If you'd asked me five minutes ago to guess what
- 24:19Speaker 1: dog you had, I reckon I might have guessed to
- 24:21Speaker 1: Jack Russell.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I would have guessed a cat. Cat lady, Yeah, used
- 24:27Speaker 3: to be I used to have.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Did Gordy tell us some stories about your cat's attacking
- 24:31Speaker 1: her once?
- 24:32Speaker 5: Yeah? They probably would. Cats.
- 24:36Speaker 2: That's the transition from cats to dogs.
- 24:39Speaker 1: That's interesting.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Cat.
- 24:40Speaker 5: I don't know, actually, I don't know how that happened.
- 24:43Speaker 5: I think because once I was in a house, because
- 24:46Speaker 5: I would live in at units and apartments for long
- 24:49Speaker 5: Colin and move around. So once I was in a
- 24:52Speaker 5: house and had space, we're dogs and probably as well.
- 24:57Speaker 2: There you Okay, let's move move on against each what
- 25:00Speaker 2: happens we do this? We don't funniest team member as
- 25:04Speaker 2: in playing team members in your funniest Dixon's let's do too.
- 25:11Speaker 2: So who was the funny?
- 25:13Speaker 3: I mean, obviously you don't have to say me and Catherine,
- 25:15Speaker 3: that's fine, but who was you? Who's the funny? I mean, yeah,
- 25:19Speaker 3: who's the funniest person you played with?
- 25:22Speaker 2: Oh?
- 25:22Speaker 5: Look, I think that probably Shelley and Carrissa. Yeah, they
- 25:28Speaker 5: were pretty amusing and annoying and everything.
- 25:33Speaker 2: So who then from the Vixens this year a funniest?
- 25:37Speaker 5: It's funny because you see them differently than within the team.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Who's the funniest in the team, but from outside you
- 25:45Speaker 5: see it differently. But Joe, honestly, Joe amused me.
- 25:50Speaker 1: That's what Hannah last year when we had her on
- 25:53Speaker 1: in the Summer series. I have to go back and
- 25:55Speaker 1: watch it, but I thought, Hannah said Joe Weston.
- 25:58Speaker 5: Joe west Joe Weston muses still funny.
- 26:01Speaker 3: She's funny and also the most likely to be Prime Minister.
- 26:04Speaker 5: I know she's amazing.
- 26:07Speaker 2: All the hats okay, smart sauce in the fridge or
- 26:10Speaker 2: the coboard cabin. Best holiday destination.
- 26:13Speaker 4: Mm quick fire, quick fire I had last year.
- 26:24Speaker 5: We had a big five week trip to Europe and
- 26:27Speaker 5: love that. Si Okay, main activity.
- 26:33Speaker 2: What would you do on all the flying? When you're flying?
- 26:35Speaker 2: What do you do?
- 26:35Speaker 5: You know what? I've got puzzles on my iPad, Jigsaw
- 26:38Speaker 5: puzzles and baby games.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Miss bac Man.
- 26:47Speaker 5: The girls all laugh, We'll look open, just laugh and
- 26:50Speaker 5: I'm playing baby games, baby jigsaw puzzles and stuff.
- 26:54Speaker 2: God love it. Okay, what are you binging right now?
- 26:57Speaker 2: On television?
- 26:58Speaker 5: Binging? I've always been housewives?
- 27:01Speaker 2: Which one are you watching now?
- 27:03Speaker 5: She has Orange Counties just finishing, coming to the end
- 27:08Speaker 5: of that. Miami just finished. Oh my god, waiting for beels.
- 27:13Speaker 3: What was your of Geelong.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Girls of the Playboy Mansion?
- 27:19Speaker 1: Girl? Did you ever get around Girls of the Playboy Mansion?
- 27:22Speaker 2: No? So good, get on to that. Now you've got
- 27:24Speaker 2: all these special.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Totally someone named Kendra.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Oh my god, Bridget anyway, do you have any tattoos
- 27:35Speaker 2: that we don't know about?
- 27:37Speaker 5: I don't have any tattoos.
- 27:38Speaker 2: No, I didn't get you weren't convinced to go with
- 27:40Speaker 2: the girls when they got their No, not at all,
- 27:43Speaker 2: not at all.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Okay, I'm also a clean skin, but we are amongst
- 27:47Speaker 1: the marked.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Yeah, okay. A couple more questions. Favorite music genre.
- 27:53Speaker 5: Oh, probably pop, whatever's hottest hits?
- 27:58Speaker 2: I don't know, whatever's on the radio. Okay, this one
- 28:01Speaker 2: is very better.
- 28:02Speaker 5: Whatever's going on in the change rooms?
- 28:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Oh god, that's that could sway you. How
- 28:08Speaker 2: do you have your steak cooked? Very important to the
- 28:11Speaker 2: farmer's wife.
- 28:12Speaker 5: Well done. I know that's not good, but well done.
- 28:15Speaker 5: I don't often have steak, but if I do, then
- 28:18Speaker 5: it's going to be dead.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Do I worried when we went to the eggs question
- 28:24Speaker 1: that it was going to be well done, Lizzie, you okay.
- 28:26Speaker 3: I'm not. I've got chickens outside who were struggling. The
- 28:30Speaker 3: cows are struggling to sing up, the children to be cremated,
- 28:33Speaker 3: and he hurts. Okay, Look, I'm happy to let some
- 28:36Speaker 3: mode off with the past. She spent so much time
- 28:39Speaker 3: being an absolute superstar winger fence that I'm pretty sure
- 28:42Speaker 3: I her still, so that's I'll let her off fair enough.
- 28:45Speaker 1: An absolute superstar and so many things like I found
- 28:48Speaker 1: it very hard way back in the beginning of this
- 28:50Speaker 1: particular conversation when I was making Catherine guess who our
- 28:53Speaker 1: mystery guest was, little knowing that our mystery guest was
- 28:56Speaker 1: going to blow the lid off that whole scam. In
- 28:59Speaker 1: the conversation, it was very difficult for me to narrow
- 29:02Speaker 1: down things that you have done. It is an extraordinary
- 29:06Speaker 1: playing and coaching career. Very excited to see what might
- 29:10Speaker 1: be next.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yes, thank you for joining us some I really appreciate
- 29:14Speaker 2: your time. And first cab off the rank for our
- 29:16Speaker 2: summer series, we had to start with the best. Don't
- 29:18Speaker 2: tell everyone else that we thank you, but thank you
- 29:21Speaker 2: for joining us and congratulations on a massive year.
- 29:24Speaker 5: Absolutely, thank you, Chas. Thanks for having me. Guys, it's
- 29:27Speaker 5: been good fun.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Have a good summer. Thanks Simone, Ssie, Bye one.
