- 0:00Speaker 1: With the coach as the Huskies who played the Paul Wednesday.
- 0:03Speaker 1: In fact, both teams play the Paul on Wednesday. It's
- 0:06Speaker 1: our last of our conflict dates on the network. The
- 0:09Speaker 1: women are at the Paul six thirty on the radio
- 0:12Speaker 1: the entire network for that one. The men played the
- 0:15Speaker 1: Paul at the Excel seven thirty on the River one
- 0:18Speaker 1: oh five nine on Wednesday. Both games abai a little
- 0:20Speaker 1: Varsity network, Gap, Varsitynetwork, dot Com, all the other various
- 0:24Speaker 1: apps that you can listen to the Huskies both games available,
- 0:27Speaker 1: So just give a listen Wednesday for the guys as
- 0:30Speaker 1: coaches versus Cancer Night. I know the Pink games coming
- 0:32Speaker 1: up for you guys Sunday, right, yeah, at the Excel
- 0:35Speaker 1: against Butler.
- 0:36Speaker 2: This is what's weird about scheduling. And I know TV
- 0:39Speaker 2: is great. I love to watch the games on television
- 0:42Speaker 2: and it's.
- 0:42Speaker 1: A big deal. I get it.
- 0:44Speaker 2: But we played in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday, and we
- 0:50Speaker 2: come home. We'll here two days and then we go
- 0:53Speaker 2: to Chicago. Like, why didn't we play Saturday Monday Saturday
- 0:58Speaker 2: one place Monday and the other because it's not convenient
- 1:02Speaker 2: for Fox or or there could be some other.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Well, it would be on S and White.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I'm saying I think we we could have maybe moved
- 1:14Speaker 3: the Creating game to Sunday or you know, and go
- 1:18Speaker 3: Sunday Tuesday if you can't go Saturday Monday.
- 1:21Speaker 2: So yeah, there the other issue that you have. I
- 1:29Speaker 2: think we don't have this issue because we have two
- 1:33Speaker 2: different arenas. So if the guys are playing at the
- 1:35Speaker 2: Excel Center, we can play at Gamble. But a lot
- 1:38Speaker 2: of these schools they only have one, like Depauli has one.
- 1:42Speaker 2: It's a beautiful place, but they only have one. So
- 1:45Speaker 2: if they schedule a men's game and then women's game,
- 1:47Speaker 2: like yesterday or the other day, there was two games, right,
- 1:51Speaker 2: creat men played and then we played. So I would
- 1:56Speaker 2: like to think that there's times when I wish we
- 1:58Speaker 2: could do it where if we're going out to the Midwest,
- 2:01Speaker 2: you know, play played the Paul and Marquette, played Creighton
- 2:05Speaker 2: and the Paul and make one trip instead of now
- 2:10Speaker 2: we've gone out there three times. We went out to
- 2:11Speaker 2: playing Marquette, I'm going out to playing Greaton now we're
- 2:15Speaker 2: going out to play Chicago.
- 2:17Speaker 1: The only one that stayed out there is Maggie Fioni.
- 2:19Speaker 1: She spend three days in.
- 2:20Speaker 2: There, not that these guys go to scorning workers. It's
- 2:23Speaker 2: not about student athletes anymore. And you know it's you know,
- 2:27Speaker 2: they're all doing commercials on their off days anyway.
- 2:29Speaker 1: So, speaking of cities and traveling, do you have a
- 2:34Speaker 1: favorite city, well, other.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Than Philadelphia, Yeah, Chicago.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I love that city.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I love the Marque is a great hotels are
- 2:44Speaker 1: out there.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Yeah, It's it's a great place, really great place.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Isn't it refreshing that we're not having to talk about
- 2:50Speaker 1: injuries anymore? I mean, Aubrey slowly making her way back.
- 2:54Speaker 1: She didn't play Saturday, but it was just great to
- 2:56Speaker 1: see Caroline warming up for the teammates for the first
- 2:58Speaker 1: time in uniform, because we haven't seen that since early
- 3:01Speaker 1: last season before she shut it down.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, some of those kids have just had some
- 3:06Speaker 2: terrible luck, you know, unusual stuff happening. Not now you're
- 3:13Speaker 2: running the mill stuff, you know, just really unusual ways
- 3:16Speaker 2: to get injured. And uh, it's I'm afraid it's becoming
- 3:26Speaker 2: more and more a.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Part of.
- 3:29Speaker 2: High school basketball, high school sports, college sports. So I'm
- 3:34Speaker 2: glad that we have a majority of our roster intact,
- 3:39Speaker 2: Carol being able to warm up is huge for her,
- 3:43Speaker 2: you know where it leads for us. I have no
- 3:45Speaker 2: idea what that means, whether it means anything at all,
- 3:47Speaker 2: but great for her, you know, because I know she
- 3:51Speaker 2: misses it so much. And then Aubrey, you know, when
- 3:55Speaker 2: you haven't played, you know, in a year. Well, it's funny,
- 4:00Speaker 2: we were out of Creton. That's when she got hurt
- 4:01Speaker 2: last year at Creighton, so it was like almost exactly
- 4:04Speaker 2: a year, you know, and uh, you know, knee injury
- 4:11Speaker 2: is in high school, knee injury in college, back surgery
- 4:15Speaker 2: like just a lot, you know, a lot. And you
- 4:19Speaker 2: would think, oh, Aubrey's back now, you know, here we go,
- 4:22Speaker 2: national championship. She's gonna that's gonna take forever to get
- 4:27Speaker 2: back into. Today she looked great. I mean two days
- 4:30Speaker 2: ago she didn't look that great, but today she looked
- 4:32Speaker 2: fantastic in practice. So that's what's gonna happen. You're gonna
- 4:36Speaker 2: get great days, not so great days, and then when
- 4:38Speaker 2: you start getting three four, you know, days in a
- 4:41Speaker 2: row of really good stuff, then you know she's back.
- 4:44Speaker 1: They played too much high school slash aau.
- 4:47Speaker 2: You know what it is like you're eighteen years old
- 4:52Speaker 2: and you come out of high school, but your legs
- 4:55Speaker 2: are twenty five. They're not really eighteen. Because when back
- 5:01Speaker 2: in the day, when kids were playing basketball, when basketball
- 5:03Speaker 2: season is over, they didn't play basketball anymore. They played
- 5:06Speaker 2: some other sports, so they used different muscles than they used, right,
- 5:10Speaker 2: and then when they played basketball again the following basketball season,
- 5:13Speaker 2: or they would do some stuff during the summer. Now,
- 5:17Speaker 2: you know, they play twelve months of the year. So
- 5:23Speaker 2: and even when you're not practicing, even when the season's over,
- 5:25Speaker 2: and they all have personal trainers. They fly all over
- 5:28Speaker 2: the country to get these guys to teach them, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 2: all the stuff that we tell them they shouldn't do.
- 5:34Speaker 2: It's yeah, it's crazy, but it's every sports. I'm not
- 5:37Speaker 2: just saying it's basketball, right, No, I don't, right, yep.
- 5:40Speaker 2: In baseball, nobody plays, nobody pitches more than five innings, Like,
- 5:44Speaker 2: no starter goes more fighting start. And yet there's more
- 5:47Speaker 2: Tommy John surgeries now than there were twenty years ago.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Yeah, because everybody's throwing a hundred miles an hour. That's
- 5:51Speaker 1: the thing.
- 5:52Speaker 2: So it's just different. You got to adjust to it.
- 5:54Speaker 2: But I feel bad for the kids because yeah, they yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 2: it's a lot. It's a lot, all right.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Speaking of throwing, all right, I'll bring this up. We
- 6:04Speaker 1: saw page the sideline play that almost went and in
- 6:07Speaker 1: the third quarter if you were if you were down
- 6:08Speaker 1: in your on the opposing baseline, you needed to throw
- 6:11Speaker 1: a long pass. How many kids on your team could
- 6:13Speaker 1: throw that, like, say, well somewhere between mid court and
- 6:18Speaker 1: the opposing well.
- 6:19Speaker 2: At the end of every practice, we do this drill
- 6:23Speaker 2: where we actually throw a ball from out of bounds
- 6:27Speaker 2: like we used to have to do before you could
- 6:29Speaker 2: call time out. Right, I think the men are the
- 6:31Speaker 2: only organized sport above high school one. They're the only
- 6:38Speaker 2: or they're the only organized basketball that doesn't have quarters
- 6:41Speaker 2: right left in the world. Right, Okay, you go to
- 6:44Speaker 2: Mongoli and you have twelve kids playing. They're playing when
- 6:47Speaker 2: quarters okay, so they play halves and they can't advance
- 6:53Speaker 2: the ball. So two and a half seconds left and
- 6:56Speaker 2: you're down one. You got to throw the ball the
- 6:59Speaker 2: length of the floor to get a bucket. Yeah, you
- 7:01Speaker 2: got and you gotta get lucky. It's it's basically luck.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Whereas we call time out, we inbounded right in front
- 7:07Speaker 2: of our bench. You've got a chance. So yeah, if
- 7:10Speaker 2: we had to go from underneath our basket all the
- 7:14Speaker 2: way down the other We practiced that, and man, I'll
- 7:17Speaker 2: tell you it's painful to watch these guys throw the ball,
- 7:23Speaker 2: like the length of the quarter three quarter court. Ice
- 7:27Speaker 2: is not bad, you know, but she throws her left
- 7:29Speaker 2: hand and so everything's going out of bounds all the time,
- 7:31Speaker 2: you know, but that way. Yeah, like we I'll tell
- 7:36Speaker 2: you who's who's not bad. I think Sarah's not bad. No, definitely,
- 7:46Speaker 2: not definitely, not Jenna, no, they no, but yeah, you know,
- 7:51Speaker 2: that's an interesting question because I had a conversation with
- 7:55Speaker 2: him when Nico was here. I said, any you guys
- 7:59Speaker 2: play like, uh, baseball growing up, and you guys play
- 8:04Speaker 2: softball or anything, and you're like get to catch throw
- 8:08Speaker 2: a football with your brother, your boyfriend or something. Yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 2: get catch my foot, I said, you guys do anything
- 8:18Speaker 2: a Nika raised her hands. She goes, I played swimming.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I didn't realize you played swimming. I thought you just swam.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Yeah, that's just that's that's really good though.
- 8:29Speaker 2: But if you saw Nica tried to throw like one
- 8:32Speaker 2: of these passes, like a skip pass over her heead,
- 8:35Speaker 2: it looked like she was.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Like speaking of passes. You know, Debbie and I were
- 8:40Speaker 1: talking about, don't we do? You know what I miss
- 8:42Speaker 1: the the long stretch bounce pass. You know. Gabby and
- 8:46Speaker 1: I think Mariah were really good at that, Yeah, Gabby especially.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Sarah'll throws some for sure. You know. You have
- 8:52Speaker 2: to be able to see, yeah, you know, and you
- 8:54Speaker 2: have to have a feel, you know. I think she
- 8:56Speaker 2: threw one, a real good one to Page a couple
- 8:59Speaker 2: of games go. She's coming down the floor and she
- 9:02Speaker 2: threw it. You know, she just has a You have
- 9:05Speaker 2: to have a feel, you know, you really have to
- 9:08Speaker 2: do that. I remember when Dee was playing, there will
- 9:10Speaker 2: be times in practice where there would be a rebound.
- 9:14Speaker 2: She'd have the ball at the fountain and she would
- 9:15Speaker 2: just turn and two handed just like this, and the
- 9:19Speaker 2: other kid would catch it and lay it up. No druggles,
- 9:21Speaker 2: no nothing, that's a that's that's something you're born with
- 9:26Speaker 2: kind of sword.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Page has that kind of neck too. Yeah, she's pretty
- 9:29Speaker 1: good at that in the through the air, not so
- 9:31Speaker 1: much the bounce.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 1: But yeah, Okay, we'll come back with Gino. I'm gonna
- 9:35Speaker 1: throw a wild number at him. Courtesy of my son.
- 9:38Speaker 1: When we come back here. This is the Yukon of
- 9:40Speaker 1: women's basketball coaches show on lear Field to stay with us.
