- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with GINO on this to excuse me Thursday night?
- 0:03Speaker 1: Did I say Tuesday? It is Thursday night and Saturday,
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Huskies will take on Louisville at the Barclays Center.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Our coverage begins at eight thirty. Ye're on the Yukon
- 0:11Speaker 1: Sports Network, the Varsity Network app, and the varsitynetwork dot com.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Speaking of freshmen, you have a fabulous freshman and Sarah
- 0:18Speaker 1: Strong seven games in, she just continues to amaze us.
- 0:22Speaker 1: And one thing you talked about afterwards, and I'm kind
- 0:25Speaker 1: of paraphrasing here, really good on the outlook of the game.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Knows what you need when you need it, and when
- 0:31Speaker 1: she gets hot, it's tough to stop her. And you've
- 0:34Speaker 1: mentioned this. You don't have or have had, many freshmen
- 0:37Speaker 1: with this ability. She is a special young lady, isn't she.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, she's young. You know that's a that's a given.
- 0:48Speaker 2: I mean not just she's a freshman. She's young. She's
- 0:50Speaker 2: a young freshman, but her game is not young. Her
- 0:57Speaker 2: game is much more mature. I know she doesn't realize it.
- 1:02Speaker 2: She doesn't realize the extent of her game. She just
- 1:05Speaker 2: plays and maybe that's why it looks so good. It
- 1:08Speaker 2: is because she doesn't think too much about, you know,
- 1:10Speaker 2: her game, but she knows enough that when we were
- 1:15Speaker 2: struggling to knock down shots in the first half, she
- 1:18Speaker 2: knows enough to all right, they need me to start,
- 1:22Speaker 2: they need me to get some buckets. So that's what
- 1:23Speaker 2: I'm going to do. And you know, never looking at
- 1:28Speaker 2: it as well, I'm a freshman, and you know, I'll
- 1:31Speaker 2: wait my turn. There's none of that for her when
- 1:35Speaker 2: it comes to what does my team need me to do?
- 1:38Speaker 2: So she'll get a big rebound, she'll make a big three,
- 1:40Speaker 2: she'll you know, she'll score in the lane. That bounced
- 1:45Speaker 2: pass she threw laying on the ground, you know, when
- 1:48Speaker 2: she dove on that loose ball. I mean, people don't
- 1:50Speaker 2: do that. You know, We've had guys dive on the
- 1:52Speaker 2: ball a loose ball and roll around on the ground
- 1:55Speaker 2: and throw it to the other team. So you know,
- 1:59Speaker 2: it's just she as an uncanny feel for the game.
- 2:01Speaker 2: She just uh, she just has that it factor and
- 2:10Speaker 2: you know, and she's got a long way to go
- 2:11Speaker 2: and she's got a lot to learn. But man oh man,
- 2:13Speaker 2: these first seven games, she's not shot the ball well
- 2:17Speaker 2: as well as she can't either, I mean, you see
- 2:21Speaker 2: her when she gets it going. Man, it's like everything
- 2:23Speaker 2: that leaves her hand is going in. And it's mid range,
- 2:26Speaker 2: it's layups, it's threes, it's everywhere. So yeah, she's she's
- 2:36Speaker 2: pretty special if if you think about it.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You know, we talked about this on the pregame the
- 2:41Speaker 1: other night for Holy Cross UH season low fifteen assists
- 2:45Speaker 1: against Old Miss, But that's based on the way that
- 2:48Speaker 1: they defended, in the way the team attacked the rim.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But and I'm gonna bring Sarah back here. I mean,
- 2:53Speaker 1: she's an outstanding passer. A lot of backdoor plays. She
- 2:58Speaker 1: has an innate ability to find that layer in the
- 3:01Speaker 1: on the back door with a good bounce pass, and
- 3:03Speaker 1: she's done it in numerous games this season.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, that was one of the things that really
- 3:09Speaker 2: among many that attracted us to her is her innate
- 3:14Speaker 2: ability to throw the right pass at the right time
- 3:18Speaker 2: and to be able to see things develop and anticipate
- 3:24Speaker 2: how they're going to develop. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised
- 3:29Speaker 2: if you know, she's probably you know, she's going to
- 3:33Speaker 2: be one of the top one or two, at worst,
- 3:38Speaker 2: top three in assists this year. Maybe you know, in
- 3:43Speaker 2: steals too. I mean, she just has tremendous hands, you know. So, yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 2: she can help us a lot of ways. And I'm
- 3:54Speaker 2: you know, I'm excited to see, you know what she does.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Right today, Page leads with their two. Caitlyn has thirty
- 4:01Speaker 1: Sarah has twenty six in the assist department. Uh. Speaking
- 4:05Speaker 1: of Kaitlyn had her best offensive game for you, and
- 4:08Speaker 1: I know you talked in fact, we had around the
- 4:10Speaker 1: post game and she talked about all the hard work
- 4:12Speaker 1: she put in shooting the basketball because she didn't have
- 4:15Speaker 1: the best reputation being a perimeter shooter. But it's seeming
- 4:19Speaker 1: like that work's starting to pay off. And with all
- 4:21Speaker 1: the weapons you have, she's going to have opportunities to
- 4:24Speaker 1: make those shots.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Yeah, that's the one thing that you know,
- 4:31Speaker 2: we've added more more score, more shooters, let's put it
- 4:35Speaker 2: that way, more players that are confident shooting. Uh. And
- 4:42Speaker 2: we're trying as part of our offense to get more
- 4:45Speaker 2: threes than we had last year. You know, Aliah wasn't
- 4:49Speaker 2: necessarily a three point.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Shooter, right, And so Sarah.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Wants to be, and is Ice can be. You know,
- 4:57Speaker 2: Jenna wants to be someday and her dreams, you know,
- 5:01Speaker 2: she she wants to be and at practice some days
- 5:05Speaker 2: they look good. But we added you know, Caitlin's a
- 5:11Speaker 2: good three point shooter. Alli's a good three point shooter,
- 5:14Speaker 2: Morgan's a good three point shooter, you know. And we've
- 5:18Speaker 2: had you know, ashes pretty good, you know, and obviously
- 5:22Speaker 2: Page and Asy. You know, we added asy in which
- 5:24Speaker 2: we didn't have last year, So we have a lot
- 5:26Speaker 2: more players capable of, you know, up scoring. So theoretically
- 5:31Speaker 2: our sisters would go up because everybody that we pass
- 5:34Speaker 2: it to has a chance to make a shot.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Right season I well, and here's the correlation. Season I
- 5:39Speaker 1: fourteen threes made Tuesday night Tuesday and a season I
- 5:43Speaker 1: twenty seven assists. There you go, there you go. Uh uh.
- 5:47Speaker 1: You mentioned Caitlyn's leadership abilities. Is that? I mean, that's
- 5:51Speaker 1: something you've got to have inside and you're very impressed
- 5:54Speaker 1: with her leadership qualities? Is that one of the things
- 5:56Speaker 1: that Carla told you about her when you were looking
- 5:59Speaker 1: at her to I'm here from Princeton.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I mean we saw it firsthand obviously when
- 6:07Speaker 2: we play them here, and we also were aware of
- 6:13Speaker 2: it from Carla, and it took her a little bit
- 6:18Speaker 2: of time here to feel comfortable, but I'm encouraging her
- 6:24Speaker 2: all the time to be more vocal, to to express
- 6:28Speaker 2: yourself more. You know, sometimes players rely too much on
- 6:36Speaker 2: on one person. You know, if you're going to look
- 6:38Speaker 2: the page all the time to be your leader, you know,
- 6:43Speaker 2: I I think there's got to be more than one
- 6:46Speaker 2: person that uses their voice and and Caitlin has started
- 6:52Speaker 2: to do that.
- 6:54Speaker 1: And coming off seven assists as well in the win
- 6:56Speaker 1: over Holy Cross. More with Gino here on the U
- 6:59Speaker 1: CUT women's basketball. I'll coach a show in just a minute.
- 7:01Speaker 1: You're on Larfield
