- 00:00:07:05 - 00:00:11:17 MAK We are back in the two studio and I am MAK 00:00:11:18 - 00:00:12:22 Courtney And I am Courtney. 00:00:12:23 - 00:00:15:24 MAK And we've got some cool stuff to talk about today. Thank you. Yeah. 00:00:15:25 - 00:00:19:01 Courtney I got to go on a little fun adventure because you were not here. 00:00:19:03 - 00:00:21:11 MAK It was not. I am very sorry to have missed it. 00:00:21:12 - 00:00:27:26 Courtney It's okay. It was a really good time. We have our reach center, which I don't know if they know what that means. 00:00:27:27 - 00:00:38:18 MAK They may or may not. It's reimagining education and career help. Yes. Yeah. It's cool. It's a super cool concept. 00:00:38:25 - 00:00:45:20 Courtney It is a super cool concept. And we are so happy that we get to partner and collaborate with a lot of different. 00:00:45:21 - 00:00:49:17 MAK Yeah, with the school district and then local industries. 00:00:49:17 - 00:00:52:00 Courtney And career source research coasts. 00:00:52:02 - 00:00:56:08 MAK Yes, yes. They're right there on site in the center. Right. 00:00:56:09 - 00:01:03:08 Courtney They are. So what, the reach center. We went on a tour with a bunch of our. 00:01:03:11 - 00:01:04:16 MAK Guidance counselors. 00:01:04:19 - 00:01:05:07 Courtney School counselors. 00:01:05:12 - 00:01:06:08 MAK School counselors. 00:01:06:10 - 00:01:18:10 Courtney Yes. They're not. Guidance counselors. I had to relearn that to really help students that are in high school, to start doing certification. Certification programs. 00:01:18:10 - 00:01:19:07 MAK Or certification. 00:01:19:08 - 00:01:19:15 Courtney Thank you. 00:01:19:16 - 00:01:22:16 MAK Certification. Well, that's easy for you to say. 00:01:22:19 - 00:01:27:18 Courtney So that way they can have a career right outside of high school if that's the out. 00:01:27:24 - 00:01:29:05 MAK The way, if that's the. 00:01:29:08 - 00:01:30:04 Courtney Road they're taking. 00:01:30:05 - 00:02:05:01 MAK Yeah. So we were talking with George Stokus about this because he really kind of spearheaded this reach center after Covid. It was it came out of Covid when everything was shut down and people were leaving. And, you know, industries were changing because we were very service oriented in Martin County. And so it was how we could get people who like students who maybe were not going to college, find a way to have other careers here. 00:02:05:03 - 00:02:13:12 Courtney Yeah. And we're really focusing on our legacy industries, right. So environmental, aviation, medical and marine. 00:02:13:13 - 00:02:41:28 MAK Yeah, yeah. The other thing I love about the Reach Center is it's got that high school education component, right, for high schoolers who may not be going to college. And then there's a whole nother track, I guess, for people either who are unemployed, who are looking to enhance their skill set, or people who are already employed, but maybe looking to grow in their current career or switch careers. 00:02:42:01 - 00:02:45:20 MAK Yeah. So it's really. It's great for. 00:02:45:20 - 00:02:46:14 Courtney Our whole community. 00:02:46:15 - 00:02:51:08 MAK Yeah, it's it's upward mobility for all for a bunch of folks in our community. And I. 00:02:51:08 - 00:02:52:04 Courtney Love it. Yes. 00:02:52:05 - 00:02:54:17 MAK So anyway, you went on a tour. 00:02:54:18 - 00:03:03:18 Courtney We went on a tour. It was a great time. We got to learn about a lot of the different industries, and we're looking forward to what this year is going to bring. 00:03:03:18 - 00:03:37:16 MAK With it. Yeah, they just finished their first cohort and that was with the school district and it was medical certifications. And actually we did a we did an interview with local media yesterday. They interviewed one of the young ladies who had gotten her certificate, and she's super excited to go out and interview. And she was even saying that as part of that course, not only did they learn, you know, the stuff they needed to do for the certificate, but they also had like interviewing skills. 00:03:37:16 - 00:03:47:19 MAK And so they're learning these soft skills. To mock interviews so that, you know, if you've never been on an interview, you kind of know what to expect because it can be a little daunting. 00:03:47:21 - 00:03:48:23 Courtney Yeah. Gosh. 00:03:48:24 - 00:03:52:19 MAK I mean, when you interviewed me for this position, that was scary. 00:03:52:21 - 00:04:01:14 Courtney I don't know how you got it. I'm just kidding. Yeah. So it's a it's a great thing for the whole community. It really is excited to continue to see it flourish. 00:04:01:15 - 00:04:03:25 MAK Me too. Me too. 00:04:03:27 - 00:04:12:29 Courtney And then we have our board vacancies. And this is where we want you. All of you listening. 00:04:13:02 - 00:04:15:10 MAK Oh, okay. Yes. 00:04:15:12 - 00:04:17:15 Courtney To apply. 00:04:17:16 - 00:04:18:10 MAK Yeah.
