- 0:07Speaker 1: It's podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:13Speaker 2: conservation always dreams. I'm your guest host, Brody Henderson, and
- 0:16Speaker 2: today we're joined by Steve Giannis, Spencer Randall, Mackenzie, Mark
- 0:20Speaker 2: Chester and Maddie.
- 0:22Speaker 1: It's a little bit public radio ish when I like
- 0:26Speaker 1: public He's not bringing it. He's not bringing it like Spencer.
- 0:31Speaker 2: You know, Steve, I was going to ask you how
- 0:33Speaker 2: you think I'm gonna do hosting, but I'm just gonna
- 0:35Speaker 2: skip that place.
- 0:37Speaker 3: He's kind of got head loud, right.
- 0:40Speaker 1: You turned my headphones up louder, so he sounds more
- 0:42Speaker 1: like he's bringing.
- 0:43Speaker 4: It age old tradition, turning up Steve's head.
- 0:46Speaker 2: If you're not familiar. This is a ten round quiz
- 0:49Speaker 2: show with questions from meat eaters for verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation, cooking,
- 0:54Speaker 2: and whatever else Spencer decides to throw in there, and
- 0:57Speaker 2: there is a prize. Med eater will donate five hundred
- 1:00Speaker 2: dollars to the Conservation organization of the winners choosing Steve,
- 1:04Speaker 2: how do you think I'm doing?
- 1:07Speaker 1: It's not bringing it. I mean, the material is all good,
- 1:10Speaker 1: it's just not like.
- 1:11Speaker 2: You know what I didn't like about what when you
- 1:13Speaker 2: when you hosted brought it too much. I didn't like
- 1:16Speaker 2: it when you said everyone knows at the beginning of
- 1:19Speaker 2: every one of your questions.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Moving on, Well, but Brody is dressed sharp. He's wearing
- 1:27Speaker 4: a suit and tie. Brodie, like, how many days of
- 1:29Speaker 4: year do you wear suit and tie?
- 1:30Speaker 2: The last time I wore one was at sas wedding.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Okay, so once a year or so, did you wear
- 1:35Speaker 1: that suit and tie?
- 1:35Speaker 2: I did?
- 1:38Speaker 5: I took it.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I took most of it off a couple hours and.
- 1:41Speaker 6: There's still a little bit of red wine.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Taking this very seriously?
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah, okay for the stat of the week. This week,
- 1:52Speaker 2: we're looking at the worst performances by the best players.
- 1:55Speaker 2: These are the games where our top competitors had their
- 1:58Speaker 2: lowest scores.
- 1:59Speaker 1: That's great.
- 2:00Speaker 2: First up is me? My worst performance of all time
- 2:03Speaker 2: was an episode three forty seven where I got two
- 2:06Speaker 2: correct answers and cow one with five go. Steve's worst
- 2:12Speaker 2: worst performance came in the same game and he got
- 2:15Speaker 2: three answers. Yannis his worst was two in episode to
- 2:20Speaker 2: eighty seven, and the winner was Steve who got five.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Did beat him? Is that round?
- 2:25Speaker 2: I don't know. Spencer Randall's worst worst performance was an
- 2:31Speaker 2: episode four sixty nine hosted by Yannis. He got two right,
- 2:36Speaker 2: Spencer won with four. It was like the hardest game
- 2:38Speaker 2: of trivia ever. There you go, worst performances, Spencer's anyone
- 2:44Speaker 2: ever had a zero?
- 2:46Speaker 4: Oh yeah, we've had zeros before. Phil is usually gracious
- 2:49Speaker 4: enough to not acknowledge it. If someone is throwing an
- 2:52Speaker 4: imperfect game. I think he just leaves them off the
- 2:55Speaker 4: updates once we hit questioning.
- 2:57Speaker 6: I appreciate that film welcome.
- 3:00Speaker 1: They just kind of go away. Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Uh, here's our Infrequently Asked Question segment. If you have
- 3:08Speaker 2: a trivia related question for our crew, send it to
- 3:11Speaker 2: Trivia at the Medeater dot com with the subject line
- 3:14Speaker 2: I f a Q. Ryan from Michigan asks, have you
- 3:18Speaker 2: guys ever checked to make sure Brody isn't a test
- 3:21Speaker 2: subject for Elon Musk's neuralink. It's suspicious how much he
- 3:26Speaker 2: knows Brody picked that question? Well, Ryan, thanks for your
- 3:33Speaker 2: question and the wonderful compliment. To answer your question, Elon
- 3:38Speaker 2: Musk can't design a four wheel drive pickup truck that
- 3:40Speaker 2: doesn't get stuck in four inches of snow, so there's
- 3:42Speaker 2: no way I'm test driving one of his mind control devices.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Got anything to say about that?
- 3:52Speaker 3: They just installed the first neuralink this week.
- 3:55Speaker 7: Week I was going to say, would be able to
- 3:58Speaker 7: tell if the stuff something in Brody's head?
- 4:01Speaker 2: Yeah, then leave a scar, you said, Yeah, you get
- 4:05Speaker 2: a lot of scars when you're bald. Stand up and
- 4:07Speaker 2: hit your head on shit. Okay for today's housekeep being
- 4:12Speaker 2: this week a couple of games back, Spencer played a
- 4:15Speaker 2: little dirty pool and asked the question what nine letter
- 4:18Speaker 2: word describes a relationship between two organisms, two organisms in
- 4:24Speaker 2: which each benefits. The answer answer was mutualism, but most
- 4:29Speaker 2: folks answered with symbiotic or symbiosis, which has happened to
- 4:33Speaker 2: also be nine letter words. But despite are arguing, Spencer's
- 4:37Speaker 2: question was legit and the correct answer was mutualism. Here's why.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Symbiosis is a relationship between two organisms that can be
- 4:46Speaker 2: mutualistic in which both organisms benefit, commensal in which one benefits,
- 4:52Speaker 2: or parasitic.
- 4:53Speaker 1: That's not true.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Moving on, I'll also point out Brody wrote that section himself.
- 5:01Speaker 4: I feel's words coming out of Brody's mouth.
- 5:04Speaker 7: I feel like is meant to be punching up and
- 5:08Speaker 7: not punching down at the contestants, right, I feel like
- 5:11Speaker 7: this sort.
- 5:12Speaker 8: Of seems like a little victory last the one part
- 5:16Speaker 8: was self serving, but that part is not self serving
- 5:19Speaker 8: because he was arguing against it.
- 5:20Speaker 7: M Oh yeah, oh yeah, no, it's not. It's it's
- 5:24Speaker 7: it's in service of Spencer's Uh, you know, we're a.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Little hard on him sometimes there's a little credit for
- 5:31Speaker 2: his work.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Now that he's in the host chair, he feels like
- 5:33Speaker 4: you're using a mouthpiece.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Brody. I want to know how much time you invested
- 5:39Speaker 5: in in preparing to today. It took a lot longer
- 5:43Speaker 5: than I thought it would.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I started with a lot of questions
- 5:47Speaker 2: and weeded some out and then put him back in
- 5:49Speaker 2: and did.
- 5:49Speaker 1: You dip into the listener questions? Yeah, goes the man.
- 5:53Speaker 2: But the challenge is like finding questions where you know
- 5:57Speaker 2: certain people aren't going to get like, like, it's.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Hard, right, trying to make it that Randall can Steve's.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Gonna know that this is a history question. I'm not
- 6:06Speaker 2: asking it. Randall will get it right. But you also
- 6:09Speaker 2: can't like is.
- 6:10Speaker 8: There anything that you didn't put down because you thought, say,
- 6:12Speaker 8: Yiannest would get it right?
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I had a Mountain Lion question in there?
- 6:19Speaker 9: Did you pull any Chester questions?
- 6:22Speaker 2: I'm not sure.
- 6:22Speaker 8: I can't fixture someone saying I'm not putting that in
- 6:25Speaker 8: there because Chester would.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Get it right.
- 6:27Speaker 9: I just don't think people will do that as Chester.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I feel like they. I feel like they'd be like,
- 6:31Speaker 1: you know, I'm gonna leave that in. Chester might get that.
- 6:33Speaker 10: I don't disagree with you. I appreciate all the help
- 6:36Speaker 10: I can get.
- 6:36Speaker 1: You know, you know, no one is glad to see Chester.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I think Chester do all right this round. The carry
- 6:44Speaker 2: index for today is a three point five, so our
- 6:47Speaker 2: winner should get at least seven correct answers.
- 6:50Speaker 8: If I was the guy that came up with all
- 6:52Speaker 8: the stats, I would do after a number of guest hostings,
- 6:57Speaker 8: I would find out the relative accurate accuracy of the.
- 7:05Speaker 2: I think you've done something like that.
- 7:07Speaker 4: You do that, well, I've done it on the shelby next,
- 7:09Speaker 4: but I haven't done the Katie index. Katie index is
- 7:12Speaker 4: like point five, yeah.
- 7:15Speaker 1: One point five. I can't remember it was one point
- 7:17Speaker 1: five or point five.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I was being generous on the point five.
- 7:21Speaker 5: You know it's really a three.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Maybe, Hey, you guys are ready ready, Yes, sir geez
- 7:29Speaker 2: don't sound so excited, very ready for question one to
- 7:35Speaker 2: tell Phil to play the drop most important part, play
- 7:38Speaker 2: the drop. I need to know what I stand to
- 7:45Speaker 2: win everything.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I'm saying, you just tend to win everything. Gamon Suckers.
- 7:59Speaker 8: You know, Brody where in that suit? To harken back
- 8:01Speaker 8: to game show hosts, the one thing that I don't
- 8:05Speaker 8: think you'd be able to do. You might be able
- 8:07Speaker 8: to dress the part, but I don't think that you'd
- 8:10Speaker 8: be able to come out during the intro music and
- 8:12Speaker 8: do any kind of little physical banter. They'll do little dances, joy.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Job point couple of people.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Because I'm out of shape.
- 8:26Speaker 1: It wouldn't just wouldn't be your style. I think you'd
- 8:29Speaker 1: come out and just get started.
- 8:33Speaker 5: We're all confusing it with more of like a late night.
- 8:36Speaker 8: No because they got to come out.
- 8:38Speaker 1: They come out, and.
- 8:44Speaker 5: I don't watch enough of that, Okay.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Question one the category is weird names for groups of animals?
- 8:53Speaker 2: The new topic what is a group of have Alina's
- 8:56Speaker 2: called a ROMP, be a squadron, see a pack, or
- 9:03Speaker 2: d a sounder. It's up there if you need to look.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Sh Yanni was so amused by Brody's outfit. That he
- 9:18Speaker 4: took a griff and grin with him when he got
- 9:20Speaker 4: in the studio. He stood behind Brody gave the thumbs up.
- 9:25Speaker 2: I might have to put that picture up in here
- 9:26Speaker 2: if there's there's any room left.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Did anyone else have the sense that like he's not
- 9:31Speaker 3: wearing a matching thing beneath the suit coade, Like I
- 9:34Speaker 3: feel like he's wearing like Jeane shorts or something.
- 9:39Speaker 11: Like.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Yeah, very flexible, like those newscasters are like on zoom
- 9:46Speaker 2: or whatever, and they got a pair of boxers on
- 9:48Speaker 2: nothing else.
- 9:54Speaker 8: Probably I'll likely have a little feedback for you on
- 9:56Speaker 8: this one. Yeah, right, at well, just hang tight.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I haven't even gotten past the first question and we're
- 10:04Speaker 2: we're getting a feedback. The category is weird names for
- 10:10Speaker 2: animal groups. What is a group of have Alina's called
- 10:13Speaker 2: a romp, a squadron, a packer, a sounder?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah, read it a lot because people will complain apparently.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Yeah, my, uh my kid got in a little trouble
- 10:26Speaker 2: for not taking enough time on his tests. They're like
- 10:30Speaker 2: encouraging the kids to use the entire class and he
- 10:33Speaker 2: took one test in four minutes.
- 10:36Speaker 4: How do you do on the test?
- 10:38Speaker 2: He did good, Okay, the problem.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Could have done better.
- 10:42Speaker 9: Maybe it might make the other kids feel bad.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It's probably, but the teacher had him timing themselves. You ready, no,
- 10:53Speaker 2: I think so okay. The answer Spencer, Squadron, Chester Romp,
- 11:02Speaker 2: Mark Sounder, Randall pack Mackenzie Romp, Maddie Sounder, Yannas Sounder,
- 11:07Speaker 2: Steve Sounder. You're all wrong. The answer is b Squadron. Well,
- 11:14Speaker 2: I'm not used to Spencer sitting there.
- 11:17Speaker 1: The job Spencer, I wrote what I wrote.
- 11:20Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
- 11:21Speaker 8: Why, but go ahead, because there's a lot of you know, uh,
- 11:28Speaker 8: pigs or sounders. But and I know, but there's and
- 11:32Speaker 8: of course these are Packery's not pigs, but there's still
- 11:34Speaker 8: a lot of people.
- 11:35Speaker 1: There's still a lot of things that people refer to
- 11:37Speaker 1: them like pigs.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yep also known as skunk pigs or muscogs. Had Alina,
- 11:43Speaker 2: have glands that emit a strong odor win alarmed, but
- 11:46Speaker 2: they are not actually picked. They're colored Peckery's a species
- 11:49Speaker 2: native to southern Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Mexico, Central and
- 11:54Speaker 2: South America. They're also social animals like pigs, that travel
- 11:58Speaker 2: in groups. Are squadrons of six and two animals, and
- 12:00Speaker 2: they're sometimes known for being aggressive. In the Tucson, Arizona area,
- 12:05Speaker 2: Havelen has attacked people every three to six months, usually
- 12:08Speaker 2: when they're walking dogs. They have Alina are likely defending
- 12:12Speaker 2: themselves the same way they would against predators like coyotes.
- 12:16Speaker 2: If you want to see Steve get charged by a
- 12:18Speaker 2: squadron of meat ass skunk pigs, go check out meat Eatter,
- 12:21Speaker 2: season three, episode six on our YouTube channel.
- 12:25Speaker 9: Spencer. Did you know that?
- 12:27Speaker 4: Uh? When he was reading the question, I knew it
- 12:28Speaker 4: was with an S and sounder to me and news pigs,
- 12:30Speaker 4: and it also sounded like they'd be like dolphins or
- 12:33Speaker 4: something like that. So then I went with squadron.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Awful quiet over there.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Steve, Well, he got it right, but he kind of
- 12:40Speaker 1: arrived at it dumb. I got it wrong.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Well, okay, moving on to question two. The category is
- 12:53Speaker 2: fishing for folks who like to let fish go. Name
- 12:58Speaker 2: the four name four of the fire. I have major
- 13:00Speaker 2: categories of flies that used to catch trout?
- 13:04Speaker 5: What four or five categories?
- 13:14Speaker 1: This isn't gonna this isn't this isn't gonna work.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Maybe not for you.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Well, so it's not.
- 13:22Speaker 9: I might categorize my flies differently.
- 13:25Speaker 8: Well, yeah, and then what you could there's a category
- 13:27Speaker 8: where it's just bifurcated into two.
- 13:33Speaker 4: I love this.
- 13:34Speaker 1: You follow what I'm saying.
- 13:35Speaker 6: Yeah, this is tricky, are.
- 13:38Speaker 5: We'll get to that.
- 13:52Speaker 9: Mm hmmmm hmmm.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Name four of the five major categories of flies used
- 14:01Speaker 2: to catch trout.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Do's made any sense? It's not wet, It's not wet
- 14:13Speaker 1: and dry.
- 14:17Speaker 12: Like halfway there.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Could be wet and dry. That's bifurcating.
- 14:27Speaker 4: You guys need to cut the chance some hints, he says, Okay,
- 14:32Speaker 4: hm hmmm, mmmmm mm hmmm.
- 14:37Speaker 13: Or not.
- 14:37Speaker 2: If your fellow players would like to encourage chit chat.
- 14:40Speaker 12: Go for it, Brody.
- 14:43Speaker 14: I have some feedback. I like your your category names.
- 14:48Speaker 14: I like how they're specific and they're not gonna be
- 14:51Speaker 14: s like sometimes Spencer, Spencer address that general.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe maybe I should. Maybe that should be a
- 14:58Speaker 4: new installment. Is just getting very specific and weird with
- 15:02Speaker 4: the categories. I'm not going to get this one right.
- 15:05Speaker 4: How I would create no wiggle room on a question
- 15:07Speaker 4: like this, Brodie, if I were doing hosting, I would
- 15:10Speaker 4: be like, name four of the five major categories of
- 15:14Speaker 4: flies according to field and stream. Then Steve can't argue
- 15:17Speaker 4: with you. You can be like, well, Steve, you gotta
- 15:19Speaker 4: you know. This is what Field and Stream said, this
- 15:21Speaker 4: is what Orvist said.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Whatever. Yeah.
- 15:22Speaker 9: I also feel like.
- 15:25Speaker 7: There's two different ways, very obvious ways you could categorize flies,
- 15:32Speaker 7: Like are you.
- 15:33Speaker 9: Going by what they're meant to imitate? Or are you
- 15:35Speaker 9: going by how they're tied?
- 15:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:40Speaker 4: Uh, just let us let us get it wrong.
- 15:44Speaker 9: It's too late. It's too late to improve this question.
- 15:49Speaker 2: I don't think it needs improvement myself. But you can
- 15:52Speaker 2: argue all you want, Okay, Spencer, Nimph dry fly, terrestrial
- 15:58Speaker 2: sub surface Chester nimp streamer dry fly, wet flies, Mark
- 16:04Speaker 2: dry nimp streamer wet. I can't see that.
- 16:07Speaker 7: Far dry Nimph streamer, Hopper.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Moving on, Mackenzie dry NIMP streamer worm, Maddie dry wet,
- 16:17Speaker 2: black white dry wet, Nimph terrestrial streamer. Is that is
- 16:26Speaker 2: that four?
- 16:28Speaker 5: It's four?
- 16:29Speaker 11: Okay.
- 16:31Speaker 5: I don't know Yanni to choose.
- 16:34Speaker 1: He just put he just shot gun to buy.
- 16:38Speaker 9: A bunch of people.
- 16:41Speaker 5: I was going with Nymph over wet, Steve.
- 16:44Speaker 2: As terrestrial, stone fly, may fly. I can't even.
- 16:49Speaker 10: I mean, that's the kind of train. There's like two
- 16:51Speaker 10: types of things, Matt thinking and this this type.
- 16:55Speaker 8: Yeah, no, let's find out.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Okay, the answer is nymphs, dry flies, wet flies, streamers,
- 17:04Speaker 2: and emergers.
- 17:06Speaker 1: No, not terrestrials.
- 17:09Speaker 2: It's a dry flies. According to there are four main
- 17:13Speaker 2: types of trout flies, but many other sources myself included,
- 17:16Speaker 2: considered mergers as a fifth distinct type of dry trout fly.
- 17:22Speaker 14: Okay, we got three or four? Can we still get
- 17:24Speaker 14: one point? According to Orvis.
- 17:26Speaker 10: No, However, like if I were fishing in a merger,
- 17:30Speaker 10: I would use soft tackles a lot, which is under
- 17:33Speaker 10: the category.
- 17:34Speaker 2: But that's a wet fly. Okay, let's let's i'll explain it.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Can we can? We allow you a little tidbit. Nymphs
- 17:42Speaker 2: are subsurface flies that imitate sub adult aquatic insects, such
- 17:46Speaker 2: as mayflies and catis flies. They often have a metal
- 17:49Speaker 2: b dad flash and wait and wait, and are fished
- 17:51Speaker 2: under a bobber or strike indicator. Wet Flies are the
- 17:54Speaker 2: oldest type of trout fly. Many, like the Royal Coachmen,
- 17:57Speaker 2: are very colorful but don't look much like a real insect.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Other wet flies, called soft tackles, are made up of
- 18:03Speaker 2: just a thread body and a single wrap of soft tackle,
- 18:06Speaker 2: which are feather fibers that look like the legs, intin
- 18:09Speaker 2: it or wings of aquatic insects. Dry flies float on
- 18:13Speaker 2: the surface to imitate adult aquatic insects, as well as
- 18:16Speaker 2: terrestrial insects like ants, grasshoppers, and even mice. Streamers imitate
- 18:21Speaker 2: more active food sources like baitfish, sculpins, leeches, and crayfish.
- 18:26Speaker 2: They're retrieved like lures such as plugs and spoons. A
- 18:30Speaker 2: fifth category of trap flies, called imrgers, imitates the very
- 18:33Speaker 2: specific stage of a hatch when insects aquatic insects are
- 18:37Speaker 2: shedding their exoskeleton and struggling to emerge from the water's surface.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Film Yanni, you agree, Yeah, but you got that one wrong.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I did, so who got that right? Esk?
- 18:54Speaker 5: Wow, you guys didn't put down terrestrial Oh because you guys. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 5: kind of surprised you're you're giving wet fly and nymph.
- 19:03Speaker 5: I mean, I understand they're different, man, they are different,
- 19:07Speaker 5: but it's like in a category way.
- 19:09Speaker 1: They're not.
- 19:11Speaker 2: If you if you go to a fly catalog.
- 19:14Speaker 5: Oh, I understand, I know that.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Okay, nothing to say over there, Steve.
- 19:21Speaker 8: No, there's something's wrong our dog. Okay, I already diagnosed it. Okay, No,
- 19:32Speaker 8: it ain't a beaver pelt.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Okay, yikes, chewed one up?
- 19:38Speaker 4: Okay, but who takes responsibility for that?
- 19:43Speaker 8: Someone's walking it right now, and they said, it's just
- 19:45Speaker 8: a really unusual movement moment, and they're wondering if they
- 19:51Speaker 8: should take her to the VAT over this.
- 19:55Speaker 5: What's a verdict?
- 19:55Speaker 2: Let it, let it play out.
- 19:57Speaker 8: I just told them what it was, which I wanted
- 20:00Speaker 8: a whooper over?
- 20:01Speaker 1: What was my fault?
- 20:04Speaker 2: You can't whoop dogs no more, Steve.
- 20:07Speaker 8: That's what you laugh about because you used to beat
- 20:10Speaker 8: him with a rolled up newspaper, and now you got
- 20:12Speaker 8: to let go on Amazon, try to find it rolled
- 20:13Speaker 8: up newspaper.
- 20:16Speaker 1: He's going to have one anymore.
- 20:19Speaker 8: You'd sell like a rolled up newspaper, old fashioned dog whooping.
- 20:22Speaker 2: That's great, that's great, okay. Question three, The category could
- 20:27Speaker 2: be wild game cooking or it could be conservation. So
- 20:30Speaker 2: let's call it conservation.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Oh there you goet.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Up until nineteen seventy two, the Campbell Soup Company produced
- 20:38Speaker 2: soup using meat from this species of reptile, which is
- 20:42Speaker 2: now considered a threatened species. By the United States Fish
- 20:45Speaker 2: and Wildlife Surface. I am going to tell you guys,
- 20:49Speaker 2: you need to be specific, as in white tailed deer,
- 20:51Speaker 2: not Deerhm.
- 20:55Speaker 1: You know this, Steve, I know it real good.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Really look at it that.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I'm coming back.
- 21:11Speaker 5: Tough game.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Brodie's pitching here.
- 21:14Speaker 5: You better ask it again.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Up until nineteen seventy two, the Campbell Soup Company produced
- 21:20Speaker 2: soup using meat from this species of reptile, which is
- 21:24Speaker 2: now considered a threatened species by the United States Fish
- 21:28Speaker 2: and Wildlife Service.
- 21:35Speaker 8: You ever get now considered a threatened species by many people,
- 21:39Speaker 8: me included.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Like his last question, you ever get your hands on
- 21:45Speaker 2: one of these?
- 21:46Speaker 1: Steve, I'm not talking about.
- 21:51Speaker 5: Hinty hint.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Randall doesn't know.
- 21:56Speaker 9: Yeah, that's fair.
- 22:03Speaker 14: Randall was complaining earlier that you guys were out in
- 22:06Speaker 14: the hallway chatting and not in here getting ready zeroing
- 22:10Speaker 14: in on the game, and it's gonna be really unfortunate
- 22:15Speaker 14: for them.
- 22:15Speaker 1: You're not repeating it enough, probably repeated a lot of ways.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Anybody need to hear it. I'm really worried. I'm going
- 22:22Speaker 2: down the ynis hosting. This is too hard.
- 22:26Speaker 4: Four correct answers won that game.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Maybe you guys are just having an off day.
- 22:32Speaker 8: Up until nineteen seventy two, the Campbell Soup Company produced
- 22:35Speaker 8: soup using meat from this species of reptile, which is
- 22:38Speaker 8: now considered a threatened species by the US.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Fishmoeli Good co hosting the help them out.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Everybody ready, m m.
- 22:48Speaker 5: Yeah, hold lot, I gotta finish writing something.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Hey, reveal your answers. We have Spencer saying soft shell turtle,
- 22:59Speaker 2: Chess are saying snapping turtle, Mark saying gopher tortoise.
- 23:05Speaker 9: I didn't finish. I was rewriting my answer.
- 23:07Speaker 2: It was going for load turtle, komodo dragon from McKenzie
- 23:13Speaker 2: rattlesnake Yanna is saying blue iguana, Steve saying tarrapin. God,
- 23:18Speaker 2: the answer is alligator snapping turtle.
- 23:20Speaker 6: Oh oh, not snapping turtle.
- 23:25Speaker 12: I feel like that's pretty good.
- 23:26Speaker 1: That's pretty dark because very well, it doesn't matter. They
- 23:29Speaker 1: didn't make it.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Alligator snapping turtles, which can reach weights of over one
- 23:38Speaker 2: hundred and fifty pounds, provided a much greater quantity of
- 23:41Speaker 2: meat than smaller turtles and were easy to catch for
- 23:44Speaker 2: commercial trappers who got it paid a per pound rate.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Commercial turtle turtle trapping operations strongly focused on big alligator
- 23:52Speaker 2: snapping turtles causing a huge population crash in many areas
- 23:56Speaker 2: of the Gulf Coastal Plain that led to commercial harvest
- 24:00Speaker 2: fans and the recent proposal to list the alligator snapping
- 24:03Speaker 2: turtle as a threatened species. Only Mississippi and Louisiana still
- 24:07Speaker 2: allow limited recreational harvest of alligator snappers. We don't have
- 24:13Speaker 2: any alligator snapping turtle soup recipes on the website, but
- 24:16Speaker 2: you can learn all about catching, cleaning, cooking, and eating
- 24:20Speaker 2: their smaller cousins, the common snapping turtle and Kooby Brown's
- 24:24Speaker 2: media took article how to catch, clean, cook and eat
- 24:27Speaker 2: snapping turtles.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Brought in your research? Did you find out what recipe
- 24:32Speaker 3: it was that they were slipping snap and turtle meat into.
- 24:34Speaker 5: Well, there was just turt.
- 24:37Speaker 2: They sold it.
- 24:38Speaker 3: They came right out with it.
- 24:39Speaker 8: I used to get a buck a pound dress, so
- 24:41Speaker 8: you had to take the top shell off.
- 24:43Speaker 4: You'd be like Campbell's identify these turtle soup. It wasn't
- 24:46Speaker 4: just like a seafood shower or something like that.
- 24:48Speaker 10: Are you one hundred percent sure that they just use
- 24:51Speaker 10: alligator snapping turtle and not they.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Used alligator snapper up until nineteen seventy.
- 24:57Speaker 4: And common wouldn't be threatened.
- 24:59Speaker 1: H m m.
- 25:01Speaker 4: But I'd argue too if I was you Chester. If
- 25:04Speaker 4: I was you Chester, I'd be like, I'll defer.
- 25:06Speaker 2: To the group if they want Chester to get it right.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Chester, he wrote, because he just clarified he can't do that.
- 25:13Speaker 4: But if I was Chester, I'd say, well, Brodie, that's
- 25:16Speaker 4: just that's the same saying white tail deer. It'd be
- 25:18Speaker 4: like if you were looking for cou's deer instead of
- 25:20Speaker 4: white tailed deer. That's what i'd say if I was Chester.
- 25:22Speaker 8: No, no, because the cou's deer is a white tail snapper,
- 25:26Speaker 8: is not a northern or common snapper.
- 25:28Speaker 4: I think his answer was to the level of specificity,
- 25:30Speaker 4: is white tailed deer? That's my point.
- 25:32Speaker 2: But I'm not Chester, so I'm not going to argue
- 25:35Speaker 2: give him the answer.
- 25:36Speaker 13: I don't need the answer, Brody, I think you said
- 25:38Speaker 13: the parameters very clearly say no, okay, it's not turtle.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Well, you guys are in trouble on this nuts. The
- 25:48Speaker 2: category for a question for is wildlife? What species of
- 25:53Speaker 2: canad is the most widely distributed terrestrial mammalian carnival in
- 25:57Speaker 2: the word carnivore in the world.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Hm hmmm. How specific do we need to be?
- 26:05Speaker 2: Mm hmmm. No, I mean yeah, I mean, what do
- 26:13Speaker 2: you want for an answer?
- 26:14Speaker 4: I don't know. I guess I'm not looking for one.
- 26:24Speaker 14: How specific do we need to be on this one?
- 26:28Speaker 5: You're not looking for a Latin answer?
- 26:30Speaker 2: No common name.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I got it down to.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Man, I'm never gonna host this game again.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Probably not.
- 26:53Speaker 5: I am learning a lot. I mean it's interesting, just
- 26:56Speaker 5: not scoring very much.
- 26:57Speaker 4: I enjoy when my critics have to take the hosting seat,
- 27:01Speaker 4: as Brody being one of the top three critics. This
- 27:04Speaker 4: is this is good.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I like this.
- 27:07Speaker 5: I've got some softballs lined up.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Do you invite me?
- 27:10Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, buddy. It's gonna be like it's gonna be.
- 27:13Speaker 7: Just played like a twenty question game that just has
- 27:16Speaker 7: really easy questions.
- 27:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and everybody will leave for the trophy.
- 27:20Speaker 9: Just wrap a fire.
- 27:22Speaker 1: No score either.
- 27:27Speaker 2: What species of cana iss most widely distributed terrestrial mammalian
- 27:31Speaker 2: carnivore in the world.
- 27:34Speaker 4: This is I believe the ninety ninth episode that Brody
- 27:37Speaker 4: is hosting today. So we got a special episode for
- 27:40Speaker 4: ninety nine and then a special episode for one hundred
- 27:42Speaker 4: next week as well.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Ready, if everyone's ready, flip them over, Spencer says Fox,
- 27:53Speaker 2: Chesser says cricket, Mark says gray Fox. Randall says domestic dog.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Go back to Chester for a second.
- 28:03Speaker 2: I don't want to just move past that one, because.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Their carnivores.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Might to be fair there, mammals, be honest, says gray Wolf.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Steve says wolf, what what you have?
- 28:27Speaker 1: What you have in there, Red Fox?
- 28:29Speaker 8: But now I'm realizing you probably can go just pet dogs?
- 28:34Speaker 2: What Fox?
- 28:35Speaker 1: What Fox? Fox? Red Fox? So I had it right?
- 28:39Speaker 1: You know? Does everyone take note? I did have it right?
- 28:42Speaker 2: You did have it right.
- 28:43Speaker 7: Our domestic dogs canids. Yeah, there's the terrestrial mammalian carnivores
- 28:51Speaker 7: as well.
- 28:52Speaker 14: Right, there's no way there's more red foxes and widely
- 28:56Speaker 14: way more dogs.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I feel like that's you think it should be the
- 29:00Speaker 1: household dog.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I thought that. Wherever there's folks, I thought
- 29:05Speaker 4: he was gonna there was gonna be a trick question
- 29:07Speaker 4: it would be dogs as well.
- 29:08Speaker 7: And then I was gonna ask. I was gonna ask
- 29:10Speaker 7: the question, the clarifying question, how.
- 29:12Speaker 1: They're not pet dogs? Aren't carnivores?
- 29:18Speaker 2: Yea?
- 29:18Speaker 12: They are?
- 29:19Speaker 9: They eat mostly like whatever dog processed things.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Not a lot of dogs running around above the Arctic Circle.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I'm getting Do I get that right? Definitely arctic fox,
- 29:33Speaker 1: gray fox fox.
- 29:36Speaker 6: He didn't answer, no, explain myself.
- 29:41Speaker 1: There's chance that you get into his chest.
- 29:45Speaker 4: I don't think that's true at all.
- 29:48Speaker 10: For some reasons, saw terrestrial and my brain immediately wrote
- 29:52Speaker 10: down cricket because that was the joke.
- 29:54Speaker 9: He was thinking about fly fly fishing.
- 29:57Speaker 5: He's still stuck in.
- 30:00Speaker 9: Well, you know, it's closer.
- 30:03Speaker 10: What's the highest distributed terrestrial out there? And I was
- 30:07Speaker 10: thinking cricket right now because of all the protein, the protein.
- 30:11Speaker 6: Market that they use it for. I skipped over canad and.
- 30:16Speaker 8: Do you know if you've put all the beetles in
- 30:18Speaker 8: the world in one pile and all the mammals in
- 30:21Speaker 8: the world and another pile, the beetle pile be bigger
- 30:24Speaker 8: than the mammal pile.
- 30:26Speaker 5: I did not know that.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Red boxes are distributed across the entire northern hemisphere, from
- 30:32Speaker 2: the Arctic Circle to southern North America, Europe, North Africa,
- 30:36Speaker 2: the Asiatic Steps, India, and Japan. They were also introduced
- 30:40Speaker 2: to Australia, where they've established themselves throughout much of that
- 30:43Speaker 2: continent as well.
- 30:46Speaker 4: So I got that right right?
- 30:47Speaker 1: You wrote fox? Did you mean Arctic fox?
- 30:50Speaker 4: No, it meant the correct answer, which I again, I
- 30:52Speaker 4: asked me how specific, Brodie.
- 30:54Speaker 2: I didn't say specific.
- 30:56Speaker 1: I well, when I wrote red fox, I wrote red fox.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I crossed it out. But that's why I got it wrong.
- 31:04Speaker 5: Bro Are you gonna give a dispenser?
- 31:05Speaker 3: No, I don't think you can.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Deserts Oh, he must have meant the desert swift fox.
- 31:14Speaker 4: I guess Chester didn't get the white tails.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Did anyone get it?
- 31:21Speaker 1: No?
- 31:21Speaker 4: Nobody.
- 31:23Speaker 5: I think I'm over four.
- 31:25Speaker 7: I think I think there's a good reading of this
- 31:27Speaker 7: question that would make the domestic dog the correct answer.
- 31:32Speaker 2: No, the category for go on. The category for this
- 31:43Speaker 2: next question is cool things about antlers.
- 31:46Speaker 4: How did that last question only get to be wildlife category?
- 31:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 31:49Speaker 5: I got.
- 31:53Speaker 7: Including me because he wanted to rule out domestic dog.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Spent rains getting on angry back there.
- 32:01Speaker 7: Well, you know I'm sitting here on a goose. You
- 32:04Speaker 7: know you too, chairs the chairs, feeling rather uncomfortable.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Maybe we'll go end with a few zeros.
- 32:15Speaker 9: We can only hope.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Okay, next question is cool things about antlers. What is
- 32:21Speaker 2: the technical term for the strings of round beads and
- 32:24Speaker 2: bumps at the base of the antlers?
- 32:27Speaker 4: You know this?
- 32:28Speaker 1: Mark?
- 32:28Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 32:31Speaker 1: Or maybe you just think you do.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Possibly you want to read that question pretty closely. I
- 32:50Speaker 2: tried really hard, Spencer to you know, provide info in
- 32:53Speaker 2: the questions.
- 32:54Speaker 4: I believe you listen selfishly. This is very satisfying for me.
- 32:59Speaker 4: If our guest hosts does a poor job, which.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Maybe the thing I'm doing a poor job.
- 33:04Speaker 4: I think you guys, well, what do you got Steve?
- 33:13Speaker 1: I got this one wrong?
- 33:14Speaker 4: Okay, me too?
- 33:18Speaker 2: What is the technical term for the strings of round
- 33:20Speaker 2: beads and bumps at the base of antlers?
- 33:24Speaker 12: I feel like a lot more people in this room should.
- 33:25Speaker 5: Know the answer, So yeah, I agree, or.
- 33:29Speaker 12: Maybe they do and I'm just on my own.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Everyone ready, you're honest?
- 33:41Speaker 5: No, Yeah, I'm gonna stick with it.
- 33:43Speaker 1: You know, Dirt's dad used to use for chapstick. I
- 33:47Speaker 1: think it was his grandfather, his grandfather, earwax?
- 33:53Speaker 2: Where did that come from?
- 33:55Speaker 1: He was telling me that.
- 33:56Speaker 9: But ear wax tastes so bad.
- 33:59Speaker 5: How do you know?
- 34:00Speaker 2: Steve's so disinterested in this episode of.
- 34:06Speaker 1: He dig his own earwax? Out and put it on
- 34:08Speaker 1: his lips.
- 34:09Speaker 3: So who's got such dry lips that Steve noticed and
- 34:12Speaker 3: thought that in his mind.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I've just been thinking about it a lot since he
- 34:17Speaker 1: told me that.
- 34:19Speaker 5: Frugal bunch. That family.
- 34:21Speaker 8: You guys, ready, Shirt's dad tried to learn how to
- 34:23Speaker 8: make his own pellet, grilled pellets, and he tried to
- 34:25Speaker 8: learn how to make his own dip.
- 34:30Speaker 1: They don't like buying stuff man, especially chefs. Dick, that's
- 34:34Speaker 1: not mark.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Let's what you got, Spencer says Burr. Pearls, pearls, Kenzie nothing,
- 34:45Speaker 2: Mattie says Sis Giannis ped uncle. Steve burrs with one r.
- 34:50Speaker 1: This fine doesn't matter.
- 34:54Speaker 2: We have a right answer, Burs.
- 34:56Speaker 1: It's pearls the job mark.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 35:01Speaker 2: These small bead like structures foreman rows like a string
- 35:04Speaker 2: of pearls around the base section of the antler. Bumpy
- 35:07Speaker 2: surface they create is believed to aid in creating rubs
- 35:10Speaker 2: on trees that spread scent to communicate with other deer.
- 35:14Speaker 2: May also be an indicator of good nutrition. If they're
- 35:17Speaker 2: absent or faint, a buck may have had poor nutrition,
- 35:21Speaker 2: though young bucks tend to have less pearling than older bucks.
- 35:24Speaker 4: I feel like Meais have less of them or no.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Not the one my kid shot this past fall.
- 35:31Speaker 3: That was a good question kind of you had me
- 35:34Speaker 3: second guessing myself though, when Steve's like, are you sure
- 35:37Speaker 3: about that? That I sat here he was gonna go like,
- 35:39Speaker 3: uh like was not what I call him?
- 35:46Speaker 1: Hey, Phil Lord lower junk.
- 35:49Speaker 5: Does anybody have any questions? Right? Or the way through? Yeah?
- 35:54Speaker 13: Well, I'll just I'll just do it the typical way.
- 35:56Speaker 13: We've got Yannis, Mackenzie, Maddie, Randall and Steve all tied
- 36:01Speaker 13: up with zero points. Wow, Chester and Spencer have won
- 36:07Speaker 13: and mark its blazon a trail. He's got two points
- 36:10Speaker 13: in first place.
- 36:11Speaker 2: All right, mark, way to go.
- 36:12Speaker 5: Anybody's game, anybody's game.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Could pour it on the next half.
- 36:20Speaker 5: I thought of my long history with Brody that I
- 36:22Speaker 5: would you know, you know what, there's.
- 36:26Speaker 2: A question coming up about our long history.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Don't like that?
- 36:30Speaker 2: Oh?
- 36:30Speaker 9: I look forward to that question.
- 36:33Speaker 2: It's the answer isn't dogs?
- 36:35Speaker 9: In case you're wondering, well, at least there's one question.
- 36:40Speaker 9: The right answer is dogs.
- 36:52Speaker 5: Hey.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Question six falls under the category of potomology or the
- 36:56Speaker 2: scientific study of rivers. Rivers, what is the inverted V
- 37:02Speaker 2: shaped feature just above waves called.
- 37:09Speaker 4: I'm glad nobody knows this.
- 37:11Speaker 2: There's a lot of people in this room that better
- 37:13Speaker 2: know it. Who I feel like.
- 37:21Speaker 12: When you say above waves, you mean like.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Upstream upstream from waves?
- 37:24Speaker 15: Yes, Mark's been studying how to row a boat, right, Yeah,
- 37:35Speaker 15: it's just not coming to me on this one.
- 37:37Speaker 2: And Rivers, what is the inverted V shaped feature just
- 37:40Speaker 2: above waves called?
- 37:42Speaker 1: You know this?
- 37:43Speaker 4: Yani? I believe so you know this.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Steve, don't think so, but probably.
- 37:47Speaker 13: Man, Steve, you've been drifting just further further out of
- 37:54Speaker 13: the frame of this.
- 37:55Speaker 3: I just want to get close to Yannest.
- 37:56Speaker 5: Thank you. Come back here, buddy, we'll hang down here
- 38:00Speaker 5: at the bottom of the pile together.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Is everyone ready.
- 38:09Speaker 9: By an upside down V shaped feature? You mean like
- 38:13Speaker 9: a wave? Yeah, okay, just throw me off.
- 38:22Speaker 1: But so there's a wave and above that is an
- 38:24Speaker 1: upside down V gotcha. Hm?
- 38:30Speaker 4: But now he said upstream from the wave, yeah, not
- 38:33Speaker 4: on top of the wave. So you definitely don't have
- 38:37Speaker 4: this one right. This could have been a visual question.
- 38:43Speaker 5: Oh yow, Yeah, I'm just gonna keep what I got.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, you guys ready, ready flip them over?
- 38:54Speaker 2: Spencer says Ripples Chester says tongue Mark doesn't have an answer,
- 38:58Speaker 2: Randall Ripple, Kenzie Precipice, Maddie Wake, Yanni's tongue, Steve Trough.
- 39:05Speaker 8: That's tongue spell, the.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Answer is tongue. From a rower or paddler's downstream perspective,
- 39:17Speaker 2: the tongue is an area of smooth water above a
- 39:20Speaker 2: rapid that forms in the shape of an upside down
- 39:23Speaker 2: b The main body of the current generally flows through
- 39:25Speaker 2: the tongue and is usually the easiest and safest entrance
- 39:28Speaker 2: into a rapid, unless it's pointing directly towards waves, rocks, sleepers, sweepers, suckholes,
- 39:35Speaker 2: or other dangerous whitewater hazards. The first day I met
- 39:38Speaker 2: the Latvian Eagle, who back then was known as long
- 39:41Speaker 2: tongue Yannie, was when we were in a raft together
- 39:44Speaker 2: floating down the Eagle River during peak runoff flows with
- 39:47Speaker 2: a couple of other groups of fly fishing guides. Halfway through,
- 39:50Speaker 2: one of those other boats flipped completely over backwards when
- 39:54Speaker 2: they road the tongue of dead cow rapid straight into
- 39:57Speaker 2: a ten foot standing wave. Everyone survived, but an older
- 40:00Speaker 2: guy named Jake Corsetti was missing for a while. Before
- 40:03Speaker 2: he eventually emerged with a bloody head wound. Do you
- 40:05Speaker 2: remember that day? Honest?
- 40:07Speaker 5: I do?
- 40:07Speaker 4: How long is a while? Like second minutes?
- 40:10Speaker 2: He was out there for minutes?
- 40:11Speaker 5: Cool?
- 40:11Speaker 1: What restaurant did Yanny work at where he earned the
- 40:14Speaker 1: Moniker long tongue?
- 40:16Speaker 4: Yeah, he's a Mexican restaurant, right, Tuscaninis not Mexican.
- 40:23Speaker 6: I've got a great story about a river wave tongue.
- 40:27Speaker 2: He probably not interested, so it's come to him.
- 40:31Speaker 6: You're not gonna tell it, It's it's too long.
- 40:35Speaker 1: We just let you.
- 40:40Speaker 6: I'll tell you later.
- 40:41Speaker 8: Someday someone's gonna be like, hey, man, do you know
- 40:43Speaker 8: anybody with a long story?
- 40:48Speaker 1: It could mean a lot of money. I'd like, yeah,
- 40:51Speaker 1: you know, I do. Let me try to find his number, now.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Steve, I was expecting you to get that one.
- 41:04Speaker 9: Okay, I got four more swings. Here.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Here's a fishing question. Fishing question for your guys. Togue
- 41:12Speaker 2: is the name Mayners used for this game? Fish?
- 41:17Speaker 12: Huh m hm. This might be a dumb question. But
- 41:29Speaker 12: are Maners people from that's.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Right, people named Maynard? How many Maynards do you know?
- 41:40Speaker 5: Zero?
- 41:47Speaker 2: Shouldn't I let Elon Musk put that thing in my head.
- 41:53Speaker 4: Phil did predict before this show that there would be
- 41:57Speaker 4: multiple zero percenters. I think we achieved that.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Oh so Phil was able to look and think that
- 42:03Speaker 1: this is a toffee he did.
- 42:05Speaker 9: Yes, nice work, Phil, Well, I pegged it.
- 42:09Speaker 13: I also thought Yiannis had a really great batch of
- 42:11Speaker 13: questions and.
- 42:12Speaker 1: That that didn't pan out very well when you learned
- 42:14Speaker 1: from that.
- 42:15Speaker 5: I did.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Yeah, apparently I didn't.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Still tell I remember correctly.
- 42:20Speaker 8: If I remember correctly, when I hosted, it was pretty
- 42:23Speaker 8: on par.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Everybody knows Steve's a good host.
- 42:30Speaker 1: I don't know why I added that little you like
- 42:33Speaker 1: that phrase.
- 42:33Speaker 4: You did that when we did the two Truths in
- 42:35Speaker 4: the line at the Billing's Live show. You were insistent
- 42:37Speaker 4: that every story had to start with everybody knows.
- 42:40Speaker 7: Well, it's sort of like poking someone in the chest
- 42:42Speaker 7: right before you don't.
- 42:43Speaker 8: When you don't, it's like a little yeah, it's like
- 42:45Speaker 8: a little nut tap when you don't.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Everybody knows. Tog is the name for us for this game.
- 42:53Speaker 8: Fish Well, you gotta follow it up with some people
- 42:56Speaker 8: don't know, because then they're like, shit, I know that, Well,
- 42:59Speaker 8: really put some of the band I can follow it
- 43:01Speaker 8: up it's like psychological warfare to do that.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Yeah, everybody knows Yanni, guys.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Ready, Spencer.
- 43:10Speaker 12: Here, Chester's gonna get it.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Chester's changing it up to I don't think okay, flip
- 43:25Speaker 2: them over, Spencer says Stripe Bass, Chester says small mouth bass, Mark,
- 43:31Speaker 2: Atlantic salmon, Randall flounder, Mackenzie trout, Maddie salmon, Jannice Burbot,
- 43:38Speaker 2: Steve Joanna Stripe, Bass, Steve Burbot another zero percenter people.
- 43:45Speaker 2: The answer is lake trout.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Not lake trout is not a trout.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Another goes back to fox turtles.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Another is lake trout also known as mcinaw ciscoette, paper bellies,
- 43:59Speaker 2: gray trout, fork tails, lakers, and Steve's favorite grease balls
- 44:03Speaker 2: lake trout, which are actually a species of char native
- 44:06Speaker 2: to much of Canada, Alaska, the Great Lakes in northern
- 44:09Speaker 2: New England. A one hundred and two pound lake trout
- 44:11Speaker 2: was netted by a commercial fishermen in Saskatchewan in nineteen
- 44:15Speaker 2: sixty two, but the official world record for an angler
- 44:18Speaker 2: caught laker is a seventy two pound fish taken from
- 44:21Speaker 2: Great Bear Lake nineteen seven and nineteen ninety five. However,
- 44:26Speaker 2: lake trout have been widely introduced throughout the Western United States,
- 44:29Speaker 2: and on May fifth, twenty twenty three, Colorado angler fishing
- 44:32Speaker 2: on Blue Masar Reservoir landed and released a potential new
- 44:36Speaker 2: world record lake trout, weighing over sixty or seventy three pounds.
- 44:41Speaker 4: So why do they call him tog?
- 44:42Speaker 1: Do we know?
- 44:43Speaker 2: I don't know. It's just what they call him.
- 44:45Speaker 9: They just talk funny up there they tug.
- 44:50Speaker 2: Boy. Sorry, guys, really really feeling bad?
- 44:54Speaker 4: Now we're learning, like you said, Okay.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Question eight. I guess this is a gear question with
- 45:02Speaker 2: a little bit of history thrown in for good measure.
- 45:05Speaker 2: What is the name for the hooded pullover coats favored
- 45:08Speaker 2: by indigenous Arctic cultures?
- 45:10Speaker 11: Mm?
- 45:11Speaker 4: Hm oh man, you got this one, Randall? Yes, all right,
- 45:19Speaker 4: getting on the board.
- 45:23Speaker 9: Still anyone's game.
- 45:25Speaker 5: Anybody's game.
- 45:32Speaker 7: I mean, as long as you don't change your answer.
- 45:34Speaker 12: No, I'm going to see it anyway. I was just
- 45:36Speaker 12: joking because I want to get one right.
- 45:38Speaker 5: Mark. Aren't you glad you came all the way from
- 45:41Speaker 5: Michigan for this?
- 45:43Speaker 9: He's winning?
- 45:44Speaker 1: Yeah, wins.
- 45:48Speaker 8: It's gonna be like such an asterisk next to the
- 45:51Speaker 8: lowest score.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Ever.
- 45:52Speaker 2: No, it's not still a win.
- 45:53Speaker 12: No, I feel like.
- 45:56Speaker 9: He's defending the integrity of this context.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Answer one with four No, one's question his win.
- 46:02Speaker 5: I think that the stats guy needs to right now,
- 46:04Speaker 5: as he's listening, think okay down the line, he needs
- 46:08Speaker 5: to remember that every time we use these zero percenters
- 46:11Speaker 5: to see how much we retained to like, see how well,
- 46:16Speaker 5: how well we learned today, unless we have this information.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Mark, you's still thinking or you got an answer?
- 46:22Speaker 1: I have an answer. It's wrong.
- 46:23Speaker 3: Probably all right, Well.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Pull pull out your answers. Go ahead, Spencer says a Robe,
- 46:29Speaker 2: Chester says park Of, Mark says Parker, Randall says Aniak.
- 46:32Speaker 2: Mackenzie says park On, Maddie first coat, Jannis Anak, Steve Anorak. Wow,
- 46:37Speaker 2: you guys did really well.
- 46:39Speaker 8: Yeah, the old winners kind of got that one.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Interac comes from the Anupiat word aniak. I don't know
- 46:48Speaker 2: if I'm pronouncing that right. Whalers who frequented the Greenland
- 46:52Speaker 2: coast during the eighteen hundreds borrowed the word and adopted
- 46:55Speaker 2: it into their language, spelling it a n O r K.
- 46:59Speaker 2: There waiste length pullover coats with a hood, usually resistant
- 47:03Speaker 2: terrain and Arctic cultures. That are often made with animal skins,
- 47:07Speaker 2: and the hood is generally lined with fur. Commercially produced
- 47:10Speaker 2: interacts are also available, though they can't be considered interacts
- 47:14Speaker 2: if they're longer than waist length or have a full
- 47:16Speaker 2: length zipper or buttons. That would be a parka, which
- 47:20Speaker 2: is also a word with Indigenous origins from the illusion
- 47:23Speaker 2: of people.
- 47:24Speaker 1: You want to talk about a hard garment to get into, man.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Yeah, but there's got.
- 47:28Speaker 1: To be if it's not roomy.
- 47:30Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean they're great warm, but if they you know,
- 47:34Speaker 8: they gotta be cut a little bit different.
- 47:36Speaker 1: A little bag here, just like you put one on
- 47:39Speaker 1: for you listeners. I just did a motion where I
- 47:41Speaker 1: put my nice to have one and then because well,
- 47:45Speaker 1: they make synthetic ones. I've had a couple of them.
- 47:49Speaker 1: I like them once you got them on, until you
- 47:51Speaker 1: gotta take them off.
- 47:52Speaker 4: But while it's on, can you use the bathroom while
- 47:55Speaker 4: you're wearing it? Yeah, okay, it doesn't impede that.
- 47:58Speaker 9: You can use the You can.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Go to the bath famil you're wearing anything.
- 48:02Speaker 5: I mean, a hoodie, it is pretty much.
- 48:07Speaker 1: The bathroom.
- 48:09Speaker 4: I heard something about waist length and I couldn't remember
- 48:11Speaker 4: if they go longer than your waist or shorter than
- 48:13Speaker 4: your waist.
- 48:14Speaker 8: I know two guys that have some kind of psychological
- 48:17Speaker 8: problem where only two well this particular psychological problem where
- 48:25Speaker 8: if when they need to defecate, they need to take
- 48:27Speaker 8: all of their clothes off.
- 48:28Speaker 1: You know two.
- 48:29Speaker 4: People like that.
- 48:32Speaker 8: Like we we all know people came up in the
- 48:34Speaker 8: same conversation where someone has it, was talking about having it,
- 48:37Speaker 8: and they named another person.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Did these gentlemen are like boots and socks on.
- 48:43Speaker 1: They they got they gotta get all the way. You're
- 48:46Speaker 1: serious and I'm telling.
- 48:47Speaker 4: You, yeah, what if home depot when it happens.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe they don't do it at that point in time.
- 48:55Speaker 5: The stories of being in home depot or at a
- 49:02Speaker 5: zoo and going oh and then it is it was
- 49:06Speaker 5: just like put the siren on and and ninety miles
- 49:09Speaker 5: an hour to the house.
- 49:11Speaker 9: Did they live in a warmer climate? Is that explain.
- 49:14Speaker 12: It right now?
- 49:16Speaker 1: That's a great observation.
- 49:18Speaker 7: I mean, starting to all make sense now, Phil, We've
- 49:22Speaker 7: got two questions left.
- 49:23Speaker 2: How is it looking?
- 49:24Speaker 13: Well, we've been saying it's anybody's game, and it truly is.
- 49:28Speaker 2: That's the way I like it.
- 49:29Speaker 13: Yeah, because we got Maddie and Mackenzie with zero points.
- 49:33Speaker 13: Randall's Spencer.
- 49:34Speaker 1: I thought he doesn't say what They got a zero
- 49:37Speaker 1: in the game.
- 49:39Speaker 13: The game of zero points, so it's quite relevant Randall,
- 49:42Speaker 13: Spencer and Steve all have one and tied up in
- 49:45Speaker 13: first place with two points a piece. Or Mark Jannis
- 49:48Speaker 13: and Chester the cricket Floyd.
- 49:54Speaker 5: Boy, he's quick, isn't he.
- 49:58Speaker 6: I knew that was coming.
- 50:00Speaker 10: Well.
- 50:00Speaker 8: The other problem is it's not specific because there are
- 50:03Speaker 8: dozens of species.
- 50:05Speaker 6: No, I mean, it was. It was bad. I should
- 50:09Speaker 6: have just said it was a joke, but I was honest.
- 50:12Speaker 1: You might have been better off going like the I
- 50:14Speaker 1: was just kidding. He'll tell us that later.
- 50:17Speaker 4: It's actually a really long con where the joke is evolving.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Okay.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Question nine. This next question is an audio question and
- 50:28Speaker 2: it's also our listener question of the Week from Shane Lewis.
- 50:31Speaker 2: For sending this great question, Shane is going to get
- 50:34Speaker 2: a board game signed by the crew. If you want
- 50:36Speaker 2: a chance to win the Listener Question of the Week,
- 50:38Speaker 2: then send your question to Trivia at the meadeater dot com. Ready, Phil,
- 50:44Speaker 2: We're ready. When courting females, the male of this species
- 50:48Speaker 2: of North American migratory game bird makes a vocalization called
- 50:52Speaker 2: a peint. What bird is it?
- 50:54Speaker 1: You gonna play it?
- 50:54Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 51:09Speaker 2: Play it again for you. The male of this species
- 51:14Speaker 2: of North American migratory game bird makes a vocalization called
- 51:18Speaker 2: a pint.
- 51:18Speaker 9: What bird?
- 51:23Speaker 1: Excuse?
- 51:24Speaker 9: Could you play it for a third time?
- 51:26Speaker 1: Phil?
- 51:28Speaker 5: Why not?
- 51:31Speaker 1: Nice?
- 51:33Speaker 9: Okay, now I got it.
- 51:34Speaker 1: Jess is gonna be like crickets. It's like this time.
- 51:39Speaker 5: I mean it, I can fall asleep. That sounds game.
- 51:43Speaker 5: That was nice.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a couple of other things getting in the background.
- 51:47Speaker 8: That's the thing when I go, uh, living in the
- 51:49Speaker 8: arid West, when I go back home.
- 51:52Speaker 2: All the background noise like, oh my god, it's loud.
- 51:54Speaker 2: At that's a clue or tropical place kind of sh
- 52:02Speaker 2: You guys got answer.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I just mean there's a lot, a lot like in
- 52:05Speaker 1: the Michigan and the swamps. It's a lot louder than
- 52:07Speaker 1: it is in the dry ass.
- 52:09Speaker 2: That's all right, you guys can take the clue. You
- 52:12Speaker 2: guys are ready, Let's show them. Spenser says Sandhill, Crane,
- 52:17Speaker 2: Chester says Woodcock, Mark says Coot Randall, Coot wood Bill, Duck,
- 52:23Speaker 2: Maddie Mallard Giannis Woodcock, Steve Woodcock. The answer is woodcock.
- 52:29Speaker 2: The noise you're hearing is a peint. The mating called
- 52:31Speaker 2: the male American woodcock is often misidentified as a frog
- 52:35Speaker 2: because woodcocks breed near swamps in the spring, roughly the
- 52:38Speaker 2: same time spring peepers become audible audible. The American woodcock
- 52:43Speaker 2: is distributed throughout southeastern Canada, much of the eastern United States,
- 52:47Speaker 2: the Great Lakes region, and they tend to hang out woody,
- 52:50Speaker 2: brushy areas with moist ground, where they feed primarily on earthworms.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Another little tidbit about woodcox. Since they're small all, they're
- 53:00Speaker 2: usually plucked and roasted whole. Esteemed French chef Augusta Ascofiero
- 53:07Speaker 2: a Goose cites the woodcock as the king of all
- 53:11Speaker 2: game birds in lagide cooling air, which was the inspiration
- 53:15Speaker 2: for a book called The Scavenger's Guide to Hok Cuisine
- 53:18Speaker 2: that was by some obscure author his name I can't remember.
- 53:23Speaker 5: I really liked that book.
- 53:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good book.
- 53:26Speaker 7: I wouldn't have guessed that a woodcock was migratory, so
- 53:29Speaker 7: I've learned another faid.
- 53:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I.
- 53:34Speaker 8: Was just feel like I was just ridiculed him for
- 53:37Speaker 8: a while, but I'm not doing that good.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Wood woodcocks migrate south in the fall north in the spring.
- 53:46Speaker 2: According to Project Upland, woodcocks migrate as individual birds rather
- 53:50Speaker 2: than flocks, and the average migration distance is about nine
- 53:54Speaker 2: hundred miles, but some have been documented documented migrating as
- 53:57Speaker 2: far as two thousand miles. So there you go. Random.
- 54:00Speaker 8: You ever see him do their their flight during the
- 54:03Speaker 8: breeding season, It's crazy.
- 54:04Speaker 5: I haven't, but you know, Leopold very nicely wrote about
- 54:10Speaker 5: it in Sane County All.
- 54:11Speaker 8: I saw maybe more than once, but one very memorable
- 54:14Speaker 8: time when there was quite a number of them doing it.
- 54:16Speaker 5: It was cool, Like you found the spot yep.
- 54:19Speaker 8: It was on a gas pipeline where uh Staple Road
- 54:25Speaker 8: hits Blue I think it's a Blue Lake Road and
- 54:26Speaker 8: Staple there's a gas pipeline that flows through a little
- 54:29Speaker 8: swamp back there, and we were back there and they're
- 54:31Speaker 8: just going off. That's cool, if I remember right, we
- 54:37Speaker 8: went back there and we couldn't find them doing it.
- 54:40Speaker 2: I feel like they're often a consolation prize for rough
- 54:43Speaker 2: grouse hunters because they're really easy to hit.
- 54:46Speaker 1: You know, if I wrote timber doodle. Would you have
- 54:48Speaker 1: given it to me?
- 54:49Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, for sure. That was another tidbit. But Phil
- 54:54Speaker 2: doesn't want me giving a lot of tid You know.
- 54:55Speaker 8: In one of our cookbooks we show how to how
- 54:57Speaker 8: to trust a woodcock.
- 54:59Speaker 1: On its own.
- 55:00Speaker 2: I remember that.
- 55:01Speaker 4: That's fun.
- 55:02Speaker 8: You turn his head around and skewer it through his thighs,
- 55:05Speaker 8: and so he's just a little trust package, like he's
- 55:07Speaker 8: on a little skewer, but it's his own.
- 55:08Speaker 1: Little bill. I can't say I've ever said anything about it.
- 55:12Speaker 2: You can't overcook them their livery Yeah.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Skewer on your own bill, as we should call this episode.
- 55:23Speaker 2: Listen, I had a plan for a tiebreaker.
- 55:25Speaker 1: That's why it is.
- 55:28Speaker 13: A tie between Jester and Giannis. They have three points apiece,
- 55:32Speaker 13: Mark and Steve have two.
- 55:33Speaker 2: Okay, this last question is more cool things about antlers. Oh,
- 55:39Speaker 2: I like it on a moose antler named the gap
- 55:41Speaker 2: between the palm and the brow tines. That's also a
- 55:44Speaker 2: name for a feature found on lakes and oceans.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Oh why did you have to?
- 55:49Speaker 4: Doesn't seem to anybody that last little tidbits in.
- 55:56Speaker 2: There you're given.
- 55:57Speaker 5: You knew it just from the antler question.
- 56:01Speaker 9: Yes, where you learn.
- 56:04Speaker 5: If you shoot a giant moose?
- 56:06Speaker 2: Right, mm hmm, name the gap between the palm and
- 56:13Speaker 2: the brow times. It's also a feature found on lakes
- 56:18Speaker 2: and oceans.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Very honest. I'm gonna marry honest.
- 56:24Speaker 2: Now he's trying to throw.
- 56:28Speaker 1: Mm hmm, marry honest.
- 56:35Speaker 9: It's not surface, isn't it.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Your honest is taking a sweet old time over there.
- 56:42Speaker 1: He even picked up his bored.
- 56:45Speaker 2: You'd probably read that question careful, Chester.
- 56:47Speaker 5: Do you know how are you feeling?
- 56:48Speaker 1: Chester?
- 56:49Speaker 5: Uh?
- 56:51Speaker 2: Fifty, it's pretty good. That's pretty good for this round.
- 56:56Speaker 4: Steve the only one to kill a bull moose in here?
- 56:58Speaker 4: I think so.
- 57:01Speaker 1: Killed a shyrius. What do you mean but that's a move?
- 57:07Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm just thinking I didn't It wasn't didn't get
- 57:11Speaker 7: it scored, or it's just kind of a funky.
- 57:13Speaker 2: You've never gotten one score have palms and brow times?
- 57:16Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 57:16Speaker 9: Actually it didn't.
- 57:18Speaker 1: Have never got one scored.
- 57:20Speaker 9: It had it had a weird split.
- 57:21Speaker 1: No one cares about that, but you care about is.
- 57:24Speaker 1: It's just like, it's how wide was it? Do you
- 57:28Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 57:29Speaker 8: If if you told someone? Sure, there are people, but
- 57:33Speaker 8: for the most part, I don't think that anyone would
- 57:35Speaker 8: know what you're talking about.
- 57:36Speaker 2: I have no idea how they scored.
- 57:37Speaker 1: You'd be like how many brow times and how wide was.
- 57:41Speaker 12: You?
- 57:41Speaker 2: Guys are ready reveal your answers. Spencer says trench, Chester
- 57:46Speaker 2: says by, Mark says bee, Randall says inlet, Mackenzie says mouth,
- 57:52Speaker 2: Maddie says peninsula, Yanna says bay, and Steve says by,
- 57:56Speaker 2: the answer is bae. What's that mean for me?
- 57:59Speaker 13: It's chess and you honest, we're going to a tag breaker?
- 58:03Speaker 1: How I uh?
- 58:05Speaker 7: I got.
- 58:07Speaker 8: By saying Mary I'm gonna marry because Maryanna's trench it
- 58:10Speaker 8: entered his little head.
- 58:12Speaker 2: According to the Alaska Department of Fishing, game on an
- 58:15Speaker 2: adult bloomboos, the bay is found between the.
- 58:20Speaker 1: Forget.
- 58:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you got it. The bay is found between the
- 58:23Speaker 2: main palm and brow times or brow palm. Okay, exciting,
- 58:29Speaker 2: big Tier.

- 1:00:55Speaker 2: The company was founded in the spring of nineteen eighty
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: three by Tim Leatherman. The Leatherman Tool Company first launched
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: their first multi tool, the PST, that same year, and
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: received there an order for five hundred tools from Cabela's.
- 1:01:10Speaker 8: Can we tease people that wrote things a long time
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: ago since the founder is still live?
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: What do you mean?

- 1:02:09Speaker 8: to hell. Yeah, but yeah, so that'll be a second
- 1:02:14Speaker 8: last day.
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: I think that points too, though, that people outside of
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: Colorado think this is a very serious issue. And so
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: even if you are a uh main togue fisherman, you
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: might consider donating five bucks to the Colorados for Responsible
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: Wildlife Management. I believe it's Save the Haunt Colorado dot com.
- 1:02:36Speaker 8: Valian I would have found out a way to find
