- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Runnels Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 0:04Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good morning, headlines are brought to you by Frostbrood Coors Light,
- 0:10Speaker 2: as cold as the Rockies. CX didn't play yesterday, the
- 0:15Speaker 2: Rams did. I don't know if you know, the Rams
- 0:17Speaker 2: aren't going undefeated this year. I don't know if you
- 0:20Speaker 2: heard that.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I heard a little fact. What I heard was a
- 0:24Speaker 3: little fact.
- 0:25Speaker 4: Greg, and I really liked it.
- 0:27Speaker 3: So thank you for those who supported my decision in
- 0:30Speaker 3: choosing that.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Jessamyn the Genius picked exactly what happened yesterday.
- 0:34Speaker 4: I'm going to use that moniker.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Jessica the Genius.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Jessica?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Jessamyn the Genius.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Who the hell is that?
- 0:39Speaker 2: Jessamyn the Genius. Excuse me. Picking that the Cardinals beating
- 0:43Speaker 2: the Rams yesterday. 18-16, the Rams offense in arrears. To
- 0:48Speaker 2: say the least. And now all of a sudden the
- 0:49Speaker 2: Rams are two and four. The best team money ever bought.
- 0:52Speaker 2: The best team that won the Super Bowl in May
- 0:54Speaker 2: and June and July.
- 0:56Speaker 4: And should have, quote unquote. Oh, hey, guys. Mr. McVay,
- 1:03Speaker 4: how are we?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Two and four for the Rams.
- 1:07Speaker 5: You know what?
- 1:08Speaker 4: Some seasons have started out that way.
- 1:10Speaker 3: I remember the Seahawks going back-to-back Super Bowls, the second one,
- 1:13Speaker 3: of which we will not talk about the results, but
- 1:17Speaker 3: they started out, I think, 2-5 that season.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Seahawks, of course, 3-3. The San Francisco 49ers are 5-0.
- 1:24Speaker 2: They play tonight on Monday Night Football. 5-15 against the
- 1:27Speaker 2: one-win command. Of course, the one win the Commanders have
- 1:30Speaker 2: against the Seahawks.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, even my favorite people, I'm like, not
- 1:34Speaker 4: my favorite game.
- 1:36Speaker 2: 5-15 from Santa Clara tonight right here on 93.3 KJFM.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Dave Softy-Muller and Dick Fane will take you up to
- 1:42Speaker 2: 5-15 Monday Night Football kickoff from the Emerald Queen Casino
- 1:45Speaker 2: from 3 until 5-15. Elsewhere around the NFL yesterday, Aaron
- 1:49Speaker 2: Rodgers tied Peyton Manning for the third most touchdown passes
- 1:52Speaker 2: by a quarterback in NFL history. He had two late
- 1:54Speaker 2: in the game. The Steelers rallied from 13 down to
- 1:57Speaker 2: beat the one-win Buccaneers in Tampa Bay.
- 2:01Speaker 3: I mean, maybe that ayahuasca trip does something for people.
- 2:06Speaker 6: Yeah, maybe.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I mean, he never 100% said that he did that.
- 2:10Speaker 3: He did a darkness retreat.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker and the Chiefs are still unbeaten. 5-0 after
- 2:15Speaker 2: beating the winless now 0-6 Chargers 22-6 yesterday in Arrowhead.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Another 120-plus yard day for Kenneth Walker. And Walker the call.
- 2:26Speaker 7: Finds the game.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Oh, there he goes. Galloping. Chased by Steele.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Touchdown.
- 2:33Speaker 2: That was, of course, the great Kevin Harlan, friend of
- 2:38Speaker 2: the show on CBS Sports yesterday, broadcasting from Arrowhead Stadium.
- 2:42Speaker 2: 5-0 Chiefs are coming to Seattle Sunday night in football
- 2:45Speaker 2: against the 3-3 Seattle Seahawks, who had the weekend off
- 2:49Speaker 2: because they lost Thursday night.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Three prime times in a row.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Eagles lost their fourth straight game, fall to 2-4. Carolina
- 2:56Speaker 2: beat them in Philadelphia. All kinds of problems in Philadelphia,
- 2:59Speaker 2: including this morning news that Jalen Hurts is out for
- 3:01Speaker 2: the season at quarterback because of blood clots in both lungs.
- 3:04Speaker 4: That's very dangerous.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that's bad news.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 2: For more ways than one. Browns are 4-2 in a
- 3:09Speaker 2: three-way tie for first in the AFC North. They beat
- 3:11Speaker 2: the 4-2 Ravens. The Packers went to 4-2 by beating
- 3:15Speaker 2: the bad, bad 2-4 Cowboys last night. Bills are 5-1,
- 3:19Speaker 2: beat the Raiders. The Cougar X Raiders now 3-3 after
- 3:21Speaker 2: starting 3-0. And again, the unbeaten 49ers play at home
- 3:25Speaker 2: tonight against the one-win Commanders. 5-15 right here on 93.3
- 3:28Speaker 2: KJR FM. Also this morning, by the way, it's Tanner
- 3:31Speaker 2: McKee is now the quarterback. Who's that? 2023 late-round pick
- 3:35Speaker 2: from Stanford has made three career starts, including yesterday in
- 3:39Speaker 2: the Eagles' loss. He's now the Eagles' new starting quarterback
- 3:41Speaker 2: with Jalen Hurts out for the season because of blood
- 3:43Speaker 2: clots in both lungs.
- 3:46Speaker 4: I hope he's okay.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's... Two and four Colts fired general manager Chris
- 3:50Speaker 2: Ballard a day after they blew a 13-point halftime lead
- 3:52Speaker 2: to the Loli Titans. That's bad when you start firing
- 3:55Speaker 2: your GM in October before the deadline. They're already planning
- 3:59Speaker 2: for the draft next year. The Colts, remember they started
- 4:02Speaker 2: eight and two last year. They lost seven in a
- 4:04Speaker 2: row to end last season, and now they're two and four. Man,
- 4:07Speaker 2: Chris Ballard out. Washington Huskies won their first big-time game
- 4:11Speaker 2: in four tries over the weekend Friday night at Purdue.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Has the Elijah Brown era started a quarterback on Montlake?
- 4:17Speaker 2: DeMond Williams didn't play. And Elijah Brown in his first
- 4:21Speaker 2: Washington start leads them to their first Big Ten win.
- 4:23Speaker 2: We'll talk to Dave Softy tomorrow at 11 o'clock. He
- 4:25Speaker 2: was in West Lafayette, Indiana, of course, on the sideline
- 4:28Speaker 2: of the Huskies broadcast here on KJR. We'll talk about
- 4:31Speaker 2: the quarterback situation for the Huskies. How about for the Cougs?
- 4:34Speaker 2: Jessamyn was down in Corvallis.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Oh, an Eshelman era.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Boat race in the first half. And then Eshelman came
- 4:40Speaker 2: back and got the Cougs to 30 points. It was
- 4:42Speaker 2: like a month's worth up to that point. You think
- 4:45Speaker 2: they stick with him now?
- 4:46Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I think so, too. Washington State's new quarterback, Owen Eshelman,
- 4:50Speaker 2: redshirt freshman, his first career start, 32 of 48 at
- 4:53Speaker 2: Oregon State, and he had no running game at all
- 4:56Speaker 2: to support him. 289 yards, two touchdowns, an interception, and
- 4:58Speaker 2: three sacks.
- 5:00Speaker 4: That interception didn't count.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 5:02Speaker 4: That was with under 30 seconds left in the game.
- 5:04Speaker 2: That's just a stat.
- 5:04Speaker 4: That's just like a stat, yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I watched that game. Washington State is now 0-3 in
- 5:09Speaker 2: last place in the new Pac-12. They play 21st-ranked Boise
- 5:12Speaker 2: State Thursday, 3 p.m. Saturday at Martin Stadium. Jessamyn will
- 5:17Speaker 2: be there for the Cougs on the radio network. Five
- 5:20Speaker 2: of the eight top-ranked teams in college football lost this
- 5:22Speaker 2: past weekend. Auburn won at number one, Georgia. As we
- 5:25Speaker 2: nailed for you on Factor Fiction, eighth-ranked BYU stayed unbeaten
- 5:29Speaker 2: by upsetting number two, Notre Dame. Ten-and-a-half-point underdog. Glad you
- 5:32Speaker 2: took the points there. Tennessee dominated number six, Alabama. Bama's
- 5:37Speaker 2: lost consecutive games in the same season for the first
- 5:39Speaker 2: time in 13 years. And, man, are they all over
- 5:42Speaker 2: Ryan Grubb and Tuscaloosa.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Whew.
- 5:44Speaker 2: They're unearthing old Mike McDonald clips talking about an unnamed
- 5:49Speaker 2: assistant coach, and they all say, well, this was Ryan Grubb.
- 5:52Speaker 2: They are all over Ryan Grubb and Tuscaloosa right now.
- 5:55Speaker 4: I mean, everyone needs a target, right? That's how this goes.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I mean, you know how it works in the SEC.
- 6:02Speaker 2: You lose a couple games in a row, and everybody's
- 6:04Speaker 2: in danger of losing a job. Alabama lost two in
- 6:06Speaker 2: a row. And Army team, pride and dream, every heart
- 6:08Speaker 2: and gray, 56-24. over Florida Atlantic. Another win on our
- 6:13Speaker 2: Fact or Fiction. We were 4-1 last week.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Yep, I'm still batting.
- 6:16Speaker 3: 500.
- 6:17Speaker 4: That works. I facted on my Arizona pick. I fictioned
- 6:22Speaker 4: on my Bills pick.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart arrested early Sunday in a
- 6:25Speaker 2: charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants in Springfield, Oregon,
- 6:28Speaker 2: just outside of Eugene after Oregon beat... Never asking, Eugene.
- 6:33Speaker 2: The Kraken lost two games in Florida this weekend at
- 6:36Speaker 2: the Lightning and then at the Panthers to finish their
- 6:38Speaker 2: road trip 3-2. They host the Detroit Red Wings at
- 6:40Speaker 2: Climate Pledge Arena tomorrow night. MLB playoffs. The Rays won
- 6:44Speaker 2: both games in Cleveland this weekend. They lead the American
- 6:47Speaker 2: League Championships three games to two. Game six is today
- 6:52Speaker 2: in St. Petersburg. They have to win one of the
- 6:54Speaker 2: next two at home to advance to the World Series
- 6:56Speaker 2: against the Milwaukee Brewers. In high school football, defending Washington
- 7:00Speaker 2: State 3A champion O'Day beat Eastside Catholic from our showcase
- 7:03Speaker 2: game of the weekend. What a barn burner down in Sumner.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Puyallup beat Sumner 36-34, and the entire cities for both
- 7:10Speaker 2: towns were out at that game. That was wild. Now
- 7:13Speaker 2: on with the Monday show. Countdown is on.
- 7:15Speaker 1: This is the Countdown to Monday Night Football with Greg Bell.
- 7:19Speaker 4: He's going to go into the open field.
- 7:22Speaker 1: As we count you down to tonight's game at 515.
- 7:24Speaker 1: He'll coast in for the touchdown. Brought to you by
- 7:28Speaker 1: Frostbrew Coors Light. Cold as the Rockies. On Sports Radio 93.3,
- 7:34Speaker 1: KJR FM.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Hello, good morning. Thanks for joining in. Thanks for listening
- 7:44Speaker 2: to the show. Greg Bell and Jessamyn McIntyre with you.
- 7:46Speaker 2: It's always long headlines on Monday before all that happened
- 7:49Speaker 2: over the weekend.
- 7:49Speaker 3: There's so much, because especially when this show ends, there's
- 7:52Speaker 3: a lot that happens on Friday night, too.
- 7:54Speaker 2: That's right. And Friday afternoon. Yes. A lot of stuff
- 7:58Speaker 2: happening in the sports world since we last spoke to
- 8:00Speaker 2: you on Friday morning. Right as we spoke Friday morning,
- 8:03Speaker 2: Mike McDonald saying that, yes, Sam Donald's going to remain
- 8:05Speaker 2: the quarterback. We're going to dive into a little more
- 8:08Speaker 2: about that, including why they made that choice. And it
- 8:12Speaker 2: was interesting to me, anyway, that Mike McDonald was jumping
- 8:14Speaker 2: right all over that. The first opportunity he had to
- 8:17Speaker 2: speak publicly Friday morning, the day after the two more
- 8:20Speaker 2: interceptions for Darnold and loss in Denver. There was a
- 8:24Speaker 2: purpose there. There was for sure a purpose. The players
- 8:27Speaker 2: had the weekend off, Saturday, Sunday. They're back to work
- 8:31Speaker 2: today on the field. They call it a bonus Monday
- 8:34Speaker 2: practice because usually they don't practice the day after a
- 8:36Speaker 2: Sunday game. Of course, they didn't have a game yesterday.
- 8:38Speaker 2: So they'll practice today. They get their mandatory Tuesday off.
- 8:43Speaker 2: The collective bargaining agreement calls for Tuesdays off for the
- 8:46Speaker 2: players between Sunday games. And then Wednesday, full go, full
- 8:50Speaker 2: regular swing for the Sunday night game against the 5-0 Chiefs.
- 8:54Speaker 2: And we're going to talk a lot this week, I'm
- 8:56Speaker 2: sure more than just today, about Kenneth Walker and his
- 9:00Speaker 2: return to prominence in the NFL as the leading rusher
- 9:04Speaker 2: in the NFL right now. 665 yards. Jessamyn, that is
- 9:09Speaker 2: the most rushing yards a player has ever had in
- 9:11Speaker 2: his first five games with a new team.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Ever.
- 9:15Speaker 2: In NFL history. They are using him a lot. I mean, 74%
- 9:21Speaker 2: of the snaps again yesterday.
- 9:23Speaker 4: How sustainable is that, though?
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yes, that was the dice roll the Seahawks made. And
- 9:27Speaker 2: last year, they did the job share with Joe Charbonnet.
- 9:32Speaker 2: As a former Indians slugger when I was a kid
- 9:35Speaker 2: growing up in Ohio.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Zach Charbonnet, the reason he got more snaps, actually got
- 9:39Speaker 2: more snaps, 48% to 43% or 44% for Walker during
- 9:42Speaker 2: the regular season, was because of the issue of the
- 9:45Speaker 2: Seahawks not believing that Walker could get through a 17-game season.
- 9:49Speaker 2: This time last year, they were managing Walker through a
- 9:51Speaker 2: foot injury that he had in August of his final
- 9:54Speaker 2: Seahawks training camp.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:56Speaker 2: And I distinctly remember talking to Mike McDonald in Green
- 9:58Speaker 2: Bay in the team hotel. And we were just talking.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And we weren't interviewing. The recorders weren't going. But he
- 10:04Speaker 2: expressed concern about Walker's foot and how long he could
- 10:09Speaker 2: sustain playing on that foot. And they basically governed him
- 10:13Speaker 2: through the regular season. And then they had to release
- 10:16Speaker 2: the governor immediately. During the playoffs, of course, after Charbonnet
- 10:19Speaker 2: got hurt in the division round, and we all, and
- 10:21Speaker 2: the Chiefs sure saw what happened after that, once Walker
- 10:24Speaker 2: had the full reign, by then he was fully healthy.
- 10:26Speaker 2: The foot injury was in the past. It was January.
- 10:29Speaker 2: And he went nuts. In the division round, the NFC
- 10:32Speaker 2: Championship game, and most of all in the Super Bowl
- 10:34Speaker 2: in front of 200 million people watching. And that's how
- 10:37Speaker 2: he got $ 14 million. Chuck Powell this morning on his
- 10:40Speaker 2: morning show, I'm on 7 a.m. every day with him.
- 10:43Speaker 2: He was asking me this morning again about the Kenneth
- 10:45Speaker 2: Walker situation, and We revisited again why the Seahawks did
- 10:50Speaker 2: not re-sign him. There will be a narrative all week, Jessamyn,
- 10:54Speaker 2: that the Seahawks chose to re-sign Rashid Shahid over him.
- 10:59Speaker 2: That's not true.
- 11:00Speaker 4: No, that's a this and that thing.
- 11:03Speaker 6: Correct.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Two different situations completely. It was not an either-or. They
- 11:07Speaker 2: did not decide to keep Shahid for $ 17 million a
- 11:10Speaker 2: year in lieu of letting Walker leave for $ 14 million
- 11:12Speaker 2: a year. to Kansas City, what actually happened was, as
- 11:16Speaker 2: we've been talking about, a value proposition that the Seahawks
- 11:18Speaker 2: made long ago at running back. And they said that
- 11:21Speaker 2: running back, because they're so injured, because you can't count
- 11:24Speaker 2: on them to have complete seasons, we philosophically as a
- 11:27Speaker 2: franchise are not going to devote free agent big bucks
- 11:30Speaker 2: dollars to a running back. We're just not. And you
- 11:33Speaker 2: can go all the way back to the end of
- 11:35Speaker 2: Marshawn Lynch's tenure here when they drafted Chris Carson. And
- 11:38Speaker 2: then they drafted Kenneth Walker. In the year after they
- 11:41Speaker 2: drafted Kenneth Walker, in the same round, second round, they
- 11:43Speaker 2: drafted Zach Charbonnet. Go all the way back to Thomas Rawls,
- 11:48Speaker 2: your buddy from Muckleshoot Casino.
- 11:50Speaker 4: I love Thomas. We had a great time on Thursday.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Thomas Rawls worked because he was at a minimum salary
- 11:56Speaker 2: as an undrafted rookie free agent and exploded onto the
- 11:59Speaker 2: scene as a starting running back. Chris Carson, rookie deal.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker, rookie deal. Zach Charbonnet's rookie deal is ending.
- 12:07Speaker 2: This is what they do.
- 12:09Speaker 4: It's the economics of football.
- 12:10Speaker 6: Correct.
- 12:11Speaker 2: They spend their money where they don't believe a guy's
- 12:13Speaker 2: going to get hurt the next week. And look what happened.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Jadarian Price, their first-round pick to be the next Chris Carson,
- 12:20Speaker 2: next Kenneth Walker, next Charbonnet in the line of running
- 12:22Speaker 2: backs they've chosen to replace starters, he gets hurt in
- 12:26Speaker 2: his first month of the NFL. So you can look
- 12:30Speaker 2: at it in two ways. One, wow, did they make
- 12:33Speaker 2: a mistake because look how Kenneth Walker's rolling. Or two...
- 12:37Speaker 2: Like Jessamyn just pointed out, at what point does Kenneth
- 12:40Speaker 2: Walker break? And Kansas City's not worried about that, obviously.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Even if he doesn't get hurt, the effort level, I'm sorry,
- 12:47Speaker 3: there's a breakdown that can happen to the body when
- 12:50Speaker 3: it goes through everything that he's going through. It's amazing
- 12:53Speaker 3: when we see these running backs be able to sustain
- 12:56Speaker 3: an entire season with that much production, but it's unlikely.
- 13:00Speaker 3: And even if he doesn't get hurt, there's going to
- 13:03Speaker 3: be fatigue at some point.
- 13:06Speaker 2: That is why the Seahawks did what they did, not
- 13:08Speaker 2: because of Rashid Shaheed. They had enough cash and cap
- 13:11Speaker 2: space to sign them both, and they chose philosophically to
- 13:14Speaker 2: go with a rookie running back on a rookie salary.
- 13:17Speaker 2: That has backfired because Jadarian Price first fumbled and then
- 13:20Speaker 2: got hurt. Actually got hurt first, and then he fumbled
- 13:22Speaker 2: because he got hurt in the Arizona game week two
- 13:24Speaker 2: and re-injured it in practice before the week four game
- 13:27Speaker 2: against the Chargers. But that was a philosophical decision, and
- 13:30Speaker 2: it's biting the Seahawks hard right now, and they're going
- 13:33Speaker 2: to be reminded of it all day, every day until—
- 13:36Speaker 2: Sunday night and probably through Sunday night against Kansas City. Now,
- 13:40Speaker 2: with Walker coming in here, the NFL leading rusher, what's
- 13:43Speaker 2: very interesting, to say the least, about this game Sunday
- 13:45Speaker 2: night is the Seahawks have not allowed a 100-yard rusher
- 13:49Speaker 2: in like two and a half years. They have the
- 13:51Speaker 2: longest streak in the NFL of consecutive games without allowing
- 13:54Speaker 2: a 100-yard rusher. And here comes Kenneth Walker leading the league,
- 13:57Speaker 2: averaging 100, what is it, 665 divided by 5. So
- 13:59Speaker 2: he's averaging 110, 115-plus yards. This is going to be interesting,
- 14:06Speaker 2: to say the least. You would think if any team
- 14:09Speaker 2: in the NFL, very few teams in the NFL have
- 14:12Speaker 2: a head coach as intricately involved in the defense and
- 14:14Speaker 2: the play calling and the decision making as Mike McDonald
- 14:17Speaker 2: with the Seattle Seahawks, and no team in the NFL
- 14:20Speaker 2: knows Walker better than the Seahawks do. Now, of course,
- 14:24Speaker 2: McDonald only had him for two years, but you would
- 14:26Speaker 2: think if anybody in the league knows how to stop
- 14:30Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker or what his weaknesses are, it's this one.
- 14:33Speaker 3: He literally coached against him in practice every single day.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Every day.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:37Speaker 2: So that is going to be so interesting. There's no
- 14:40Speaker 2: escaping that that is the story of the week here
- 14:43Speaker 2: for the Seahawks and Chiefs, obviously. Kenneth Walker's return, a
- 14:47Speaker 2: triumphant one so far for the undefeated Chiefs, while since
- 14:50Speaker 2: he left, the Seahawks have lost as many games in
- 14:53Speaker 2: six weeks as they did the entire 20 weeks of
- 14:56Speaker 2: the last regular season. and postseason. We'll talk a ton
- 14:59Speaker 2: about that all week, including today. The quarterback situations in
- 15:02Speaker 2: our state, we're going to talk about that. Mike McDonald,
- 15:04Speaker 2: why the Seahawks are just going with Sam Donald and
- 15:07Speaker 2: why they set it right away up front on Friday morning.
- 15:10Speaker 2: There's a lot more going on than just who starts
- 15:13Speaker 2: Sunday in Kansas City. This decision is really going all
- 15:16Speaker 2: the way out to 2028, what's going on with the
- 15:19Speaker 2: Seahawks and Sam Donald right now. We'll talk about that.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Did the Elijah Brown era just begin at Washington? DeMond Williams,
- 15:26Speaker 2: did it end? Now, it wasn't that Elijah Brown was
- 15:32Speaker 2: amazing in his first game. He had three interceptions on
- 15:34Speaker 2: top of three touchdowns. But they won on the road
- 15:38Speaker 2: in the Big Ten, their first Big Ten victory. And
- 15:42Speaker 2: DeMond Williams sat on the sidelines with a rib injury.
- 15:46Speaker 2: The Huskies are off this week. Jed Fish is speaking
- 15:48Speaker 2: at 1 o'clock today on Montlake. And then that's it.
- 15:51Speaker 2: There's no more availability anymore. And there's nothing for the
- 15:54Speaker 2: media else to talk about other than Elijah Brown and
- 15:56Speaker 2: Taman Williams. Who's going to start Halloween night at Nebraska?
- 16:02Speaker 2: That's the question. And after the game, you'll hear what
- 16:06Speaker 2: he told, Deadfish told Dave Softy Mahler. You'll hear from
- 16:09Speaker 2: Dave Softy Mahler himself at 11 o'clock. We're going to
- 16:11Speaker 2: have him on the show to talk about the quarterback situation. Yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 2: I'm sure that'll be a very docile and quiet conversation.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Yes, my brother from another mother, from another time era.
- 16:20Speaker 2: 11 o'clock, you'll hear from Dave Softy-Mauer about the Huskies
- 16:23Speaker 2: quarterback situation. 11.30, we'll read back your text. We'll do talkbacks.
- 16:27Speaker 2: You can either do that on our website, 933kj. com, or
- 16:31Speaker 2: the iHeartRadio app. And the text line, of course, 49451
- 16:34Speaker 2: is the Coma Dodge text line. 11.35, Factor Fiction, your
- 16:38Speaker 2: chance to win $ 1, 000 again from the Lucky Eagle Casino
- 16:41Speaker 2: and Hotel. We went 4-1 last week. If you haven't
- 16:43Speaker 2: gotten on board with this, this is the leading show
- 16:45Speaker 2: on the station. Four and one.
- 16:48Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Four and one.
- 16:49Speaker 3: I'm just going to bat 500 the rest of the time.
- 16:51Speaker 3: I'll bet with my heart more often. Your pick today, though.
- 16:55Speaker 2: It is my pick today. College went well for me. BYU. Army.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Army absolutely destroyed Florida Atlantic at 480 yards rushing.
- 17:04Speaker 4: That was a good pick.
- 17:04Speaker 3: And by the way, I made a really good NFC
- 17:07Speaker 3: West pick.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Let's, again, Jessamyn, since she didn't like how loudly she
- 17:13Speaker 2: tooted her horn at the start of the show, she's
- 17:14Speaker 2: going to toot it again because you deserve it. It
- 17:17Speaker 2: just was really.
- 17:18Speaker 4: Great to see the Rams lose.
- 17:21Speaker 2: How surprising was that?
- 17:22Speaker 4: What was that?
- 17:23Speaker 3: That was like 12 and a half points, I think.
- 17:25Speaker 3: That's why I chose that one. It was 12 and
- 17:28Speaker 3: a half.
- 17:28Speaker 2: That was nine or 10 points more than you needed
- 17:31Speaker 2: because the Cardinals won by two.
- 17:33Speaker 4: I still thought that the Rams would win, just not
- 17:35Speaker 4: by that much.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Okay, after the Rams... Take a 16-15 lead. I know
- 17:40Speaker 2: that the Cardinals had time, but that pass over the middle,
- 17:43Speaker 2: that was not targeting or helmet-to-helmet contact or any of that. No,
- 17:47Speaker 2: it wasn't. That is just the NFL.
- 17:50Speaker 4: These bang-bang plays, you know?
- 17:52Speaker 2: The NFL and their officiating department is so, so, so
- 17:56Speaker 2: hard on these officials for contacts against defenseless receivers. It's
- 17:59Speaker 2: all they think about. They'll call it on a run play.
- 18:02Speaker 2: That's all they think about.
- 18:03Speaker 3: It's predicated on who is watching on television and the
- 18:06Speaker 3: reaction that they're going to get.
- 18:07Speaker 4: I mean, we all know that, right?
- 18:10Speaker 2: And it's about offense and it's about fantasy football and
- 18:13Speaker 2: it's about wide receivers and their points and all of
- 18:15Speaker 2: that goes into these rules and the emphasis. It does.
- 18:19Speaker 6: Oh, no, no.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Greg, it's for player safety.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Yes, it is. Playing Thursday after a Sunday is for
- 18:25Speaker 2: player safety, too. Playing on artificial turf is for player safety, too.
- 18:29Speaker 6: Hey, go to London.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Go to Mexico. Go to Australia. Get cut when you're there.
- 18:36Speaker 2: That, too. Yes, that was not at all the spirit
- 18:41Speaker 2: nor the letter of that law. A defenseless receiver.
- 18:44Speaker 4: No, it wasn't.
- 18:45Speaker 2: What is Wallace the defender to do there? Is he
- 18:47Speaker 2: just to let him run across his face?
- 18:48Speaker 4: He's already in motion. And also, that's the thing.
- 18:52Speaker 3: I'm friends with former NFL players who came from a
- 18:55Speaker 3: different era when this wasn't the case. And I'm friends
- 18:58Speaker 3: with current NFL players. This is split seconds.
- 19:02Speaker 4: We see it in slow motion on television.
- 19:04Speaker 3: We see it over and over and over, and it
- 19:07Speaker 3: looks horrible when you see it. But the horrible thing
- 19:11Speaker 3: that we see was not the intent of the player.
- 19:13Speaker 3: It was to do the job for which they are
- 19:17Speaker 3: paid for. And I just don't think that these sort
- 19:22Speaker 3: of rules.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Yet I think that even because I've been in those
- 19:27Speaker 3: replay booths, too, and I see the way they're watching it,
- 19:30Speaker 3: they're watching it in slow motion. So it looks horrible
- 19:33Speaker 3: to them. And sometimes, yeah, 100 percent it's wrong. But
- 19:37Speaker 3: these bang bang plays, what is a guy supposed to
- 19:40Speaker 3: do when he's already launched himself to do his job?
- 19:43Speaker 2: A lot of those guys, some have, but a lot
- 19:47Speaker 2: of those guys in the booth or in the NFL
- 19:49Speaker 2: office in park avenue haven't played defensive football before and
- 19:53Speaker 2: they don't have a player's thinking of how do i
- 19:56Speaker 2: as a defensive player what else can i do here
- 19:59Speaker 2: and wallace a defensive backs case for the rams's case
- 20:02Speaker 2: yesterday What else is he supposed to do? Let the
- 20:04Speaker 2: guy run free over the middle of the game on
- 20:06Speaker 2: the line? He has to close on him. It's his job.
- 20:09Speaker 6: Right.
- 20:10Speaker 2: And he avoided the contact to the helmet. He avoided
- 20:13Speaker 2: a helmet-to-helmet contact. He actually led with his shoulder there.
- 20:17Speaker 2: And just because the guy fell down, there was a penalty.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:21Speaker 2: And he also caught the pass. So it wasn't as
- 20:23Speaker 2: though he dislodged the ball and affected the result of
- 20:25Speaker 2: the play. It was just... That's just one example. There
- 20:29Speaker 2: were others in the league, of course. There always are.
- 20:31Speaker 2: There always are. And I'm an official, and I do
- 20:33Speaker 2: it at the high school level, of course, not even
- 20:34Speaker 2: close to the NFL. But I absolutely agree how hard
- 20:38Speaker 2: that job is and how fast and strong and quick
- 20:41Speaker 2: the decisions are and all that, of course. But I
- 20:44Speaker 2: also know the undue pressure that the NFL office places
- 20:47Speaker 2: on these officials to make that particular call against a
- 20:49Speaker 2: defenseless receiver in all situations. And those guys, their pay is–
- 20:55Speaker 2: contingent on listening to the officiating. I mean, their assignments,
- 20:58Speaker 2: their playoff assignments, their bonuses for getting to be on
- 21:01Speaker 2: playoff crews are all determined by their ratings by these
- 21:04Speaker 2: guys who are pushing down these edicts from Park Avenue
- 21:07Speaker 2: in New York. It's so hard of a job as
- 21:10Speaker 2: it is, and then they get layered on top of
- 21:11Speaker 2: layered on top of layered of all these rules and
- 21:13Speaker 2: emphasis and everything else. 49451, there's a text on your
- 21:16Speaker 2: reaction to the weekend. Should DeMond Williams be the starting
- 21:19Speaker 2: quarterback for your Washington Huskies when he is healthy, if
- 21:22Speaker 2: the rib injury heals before they play next season? Next
- 21:25Speaker 2: week at Nebraska, where as Elijah Brown showed you enough,
- 21:29Speaker 2: a Big Ten road win, that he should stay. $ 4
- 21:31Speaker 2: million in NIL money be damned. The Cougs find the
- 21:35Speaker 2: new Coug fans out there. You just find your new
- 21:37Speaker 2: quarterback for the next four years. Now, can you keep them?
- 21:39Speaker 2: That would be another question.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Well, that's another thing, too.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Sorry. After only one game, I bring that up.
- 21:44Speaker 4: The pressure freshman, and he played so well. I got
- 21:47Speaker 4: to meet his parents. I'll tell you about that later.
- 21:50Speaker 2: He's from Oklahoma.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yep.
- 21:52Speaker 3: They came all the way from Norman, Oklahoma, to see
- 21:54Speaker 3: their son start his first game as a Coug.
- 21:57Speaker 2: We want to hear that story later. Up next, we're
- 22:00Speaker 2: going to talk about what A.J. Barnard did this weekend.
- 22:03Speaker 2: He didn't kick back and sit down. He did something
- 22:05Speaker 2: really cool. And why Coach Mike McDonald is sticking with
- 22:08Speaker 2: Sam Darnold as the Seahawks quarterback. We'll talk about that next.
- 22:11Speaker 2: 1130 Factor Fiction, your first chance of the week for
- 22:14Speaker 2: our show to win $ 1, 000. Remember the rule on our show.
- 22:17Speaker 2: If you want to win $ 1, 000, text FACT to 49451
- 22:19Speaker 2: at 1135. You don't even have to know what the
- 22:22Speaker 2: pick is. And if you don't want to win $ 1, 000,
- 22:24Speaker 2: pick Fiction. That's really how it boils down to.
- 22:26Speaker 4: Greg is just saying that he's always right. I'm just
- 22:30Speaker 4: speaking my facts.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Hey, you batted 1,000 this week.
- 22:34Speaker 2: All that's coming up next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Now back to Countdown to Monday Night Football with Greg Bell.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Brought to you by Frost Brewed Coors Light. Cold as
- 22:55Speaker 1: the Rockies. On Sports Radio 93.3.
- 22:57Speaker 2: AJR FM. Welcome back. Greg Bell and Jesson McIntyre with you.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Happy Monday. We're in the studio together, and we'll do
- 23:15Speaker 2: that again tomorrow. Then Wednesday, me and Farnessa and I
- 23:17Speaker 2: will be out at Seahawks for the first full practice
- 23:20Speaker 2: day of the week.
- 23:21Speaker 4: This is like the most I've seen you.
- 23:22Speaker 2: It is. Two days in a row now. Friday, Monday, Tuesday. Yeah. So, yeah,
- 23:28Speaker 2: it's a lot better in person than on remote through
- 23:31Speaker 2: a wall. But we'll do that Wednesday because that's where
- 23:34Speaker 2: the Seahawks will be practicing for their games. Well, we
- 23:36Speaker 2: want you there. I'll be doing that and broadcasting. live
- 23:40Speaker 2: from there, and then writing for 933kgr. com. If you haven't noticed,
- 23:44Speaker 2: we have a new website. Well, it's the same website,
- 23:47Speaker 2: but now we have a new Seahawks bent to the website,
- 23:49Speaker 2: and I have stories that I write for 933kgr. com. I
- 23:52Speaker 2: wrote it from Denver. I'll write my daily stories this
- 23:55Speaker 2: week leading into the Seahawks-Chiefs game. I'll write the Chiefs
- 23:57Speaker 2: game and my reaction on what I heard there. Still
- 24:00Speaker 2: learning how to put the video on the.
- 24:03Speaker 4: One step at a time.
- 24:04Speaker 3: I think the facts and your eloquent words are more
- 24:07Speaker 3: important than the video.
- 24:11Speaker 4: We'll get there.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Eloquent words. Thank you. The Seahawks were off this weekend
- 24:17Speaker 2: and most of the guys were off just doing whatever
- 24:19Speaker 2: and taking a mini bye. Not A.J.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Barner.
- 24:22Speaker 2: He didn't just kick back. Barner spent his Saturday night.
- 24:25Speaker 2: At the House That Love Built Gala, what is that?
- 24:29Speaker 2: On Saturday night, it raised $ 1. 5 million for the Ronald
- 24:32Speaker 2: McDonald House of Western Washington. And Jessamyn's mouth is agape
- 24:37Speaker 2: because this is a really cool, really, really important charity.
- 24:41Speaker 2: There are a lot of great charities across the Pacific Northwest.
- 24:44Speaker 2: One of the best ones is the Ronald McDonald House.
- 24:46Speaker 4: I can weigh in on that, but I want you
- 24:48Speaker 4: to finish this story first.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Jim Zorn, A.J. Barner, and Steve Rabel auctioned items, including
- 24:53Speaker 2: an autographed A.J. Barner Seahawks jersey, a football signed by Barner, Rabel,
- 24:57Speaker 2: and Zorn, and Barner's My Cause, My Cleats, which Barner
- 25:01Speaker 2: had designed to highlight the Ronald McDonald House. For those
- 25:05Speaker 2: that don't know, and if you don't know, you're lucky,
- 25:08Speaker 2: but the Ronald McDonald House is right across the street
- 25:10Speaker 2: from Seattle Children's Hospital, where my wife has worked for
- 25:12Speaker 2: 20-plus years. And it is a place where families of
- 25:16Speaker 2: the sick kids in the hospital say, when you go
- 25:19Speaker 2: to Seattle Children's, sometimes you're there for days. Sometimes the
- 25:22Speaker 2: child is there for weeks. Sometimes they're there for months.
- 25:26Speaker 2: And sometimes they're there for years. And that costs a
- 25:29Speaker 2: lot of money for a life-threatening situation for your parents,
- 25:33Speaker 2: mom and dad, who want to be there, or siblings
- 25:36Speaker 2: who you don't have the ability to child care for
- 25:38Speaker 2: if you want to be with your sick child. They
- 25:40Speaker 2: all go to the Ronald McDonald House. Instead of buying
- 25:43Speaker 2: a hotel room for 35 days or 90 days or,
- 25:46Speaker 2: heaven forbid, half a year, they stay for free at
- 25:50Speaker 2: the Ronald McDonald House because of the money that's raised
- 25:52Speaker 2: on events like this that A.J. Barner went to on
- 25:55Speaker 2: Saturday night at the House that Love Built. And you
- 25:57Speaker 2: talk about a house that Love Built. I've been in there,
- 26:00Speaker 2: and it is incredible. The amount of emotional and just
- 26:03Speaker 2: plain everyday logistical support that they give those families. Who
- 26:08Speaker 2: are in the crisis of their lives. Their young one
- 26:10Speaker 2: is across the street in Seattle Children's. And that is
- 26:13Speaker 2: the worst of the worst that go to Seattle Children's.
- 26:15Speaker 2: I mean, my wife has dealt with cases from China
- 26:19Speaker 2: and from Hawaii. And it's serious business. And for that,
- 26:24Speaker 2: Ronald McDonald, I've told AJ Barnard this myself, how meaningful
- 26:28Speaker 2: a charity that is. It's somewhat overlooked. Because if you're
- 26:31Speaker 2: not in the situation, right, you don't know.
- 26:33Speaker 4: You don't know.
- 26:34Speaker 3: But what they do is they take one thing off
- 26:37Speaker 3: the table, the ridiculous, unbelievable, overwhelming table that parents are
- 26:42Speaker 3: going through in this situation.
- 26:44Speaker 4: They take that one thing. There's all distressors.
- 26:47Speaker 3: And I've met multiple people through Leukemia and Lymphoma Society,
- 26:53Speaker 3: now known as Blood Cancer United.
- 26:55Speaker 4: But when I was with them, they were LLS.
- 26:58Speaker 3: And having to stay there for six months just to
- 27:02Speaker 3: get their kid alive. And then you have to worry
- 27:04Speaker 3: about rent and going to the best doctors and everything.
- 27:08Speaker 3: And what they do here, because we're in such a
- 27:11Speaker 3: medically sound city, they... Taking that off their plate. I
- 27:15Speaker 3: met people from so many different states over my years
- 27:19Speaker 3: working with them and just taking that one thing, just
- 27:24Speaker 3: taking that one thing.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Just don't worry about this.
- 27:27Speaker 6: Right.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Worry about your kid. Worry about your family. We got you.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Free lodging, often free meals that are donated from the
- 27:34Speaker 2: outside that come in so the families don't have to
- 27:37Speaker 2: do that. as I said, the most stressful days and
- 27:40Speaker 2: weeks and nights of their lives. And then, as Jessamyn said,
- 27:43Speaker 2: they're taking care of the day-to-day at the Ronald McDonald House.
- 27:47Speaker 2: If you're out there and you are fortunate enough to
- 27:49Speaker 2: have money, disposable income, to be able to give to charities,
- 27:53Speaker 2: you could do a great service to all kinds of
- 27:57Speaker 2: families in need by giving to the Ronald McDonald House.
- 27:59Speaker 2: It is an incredible charity. And it is not just,
- 28:02Speaker 2: of course, in Seattle. It's across the country and the world.
- 28:04Speaker 3: And during my time in charity work, I have learned
- 28:07Speaker 3: a lot about And, you know, Charity Watchdog, if you
- 28:12Speaker 3: want to see how they spend their money, they have
- 28:13Speaker 3: a very low overhead.
- 28:15Speaker 4: They do a very good job.
- 28:16Speaker 3: This isn't some money grab or anything like that. And
- 28:19Speaker 3: they have done so for many, many, many years. And
- 28:24Speaker 3: I just want that out there as well.
- 28:27Speaker 2: And so hats off to A.J. Barnard, Jim Zorn, to
- 28:29Speaker 2: Steve Rabel, of course, the play-by-play announcer for the Seahawks
- 28:32Speaker 2: radio broadcast and former Seahawks receiver himself. But A.J. Barner
- 28:36Speaker 2: is a good dude. I mean, he sat down with
- 28:38Speaker 2: me when I sat down next to him in the
- 28:39Speaker 2: locker room in Denver on Thursday night after their loss.
- 28:43Speaker 2: He was completely off the record with me just saying
- 28:45Speaker 2: he was just asking about my job situation with the
- 28:48Speaker 2: News Tribune. And he saw on Twitter that I'd been
- 28:51Speaker 2: laid off.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Wow.
- 28:52Speaker 4: He paid attention.
- 28:53Speaker 2: And he asked me about it. And he said, man,
- 28:55Speaker 2: you're not going anywhere, are you? We need to keep you.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I hope you're staying. I hope you're around here. Hey, man, thanks.
- 29:01Speaker 2: You didn't have to say that.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Unexpected conversations.
- 29:04Speaker 2: He says, you're one of the good ones. We need
- 29:06Speaker 2: to keep you around here. So, A.J. Barner, hats off
- 29:09Speaker 2: to you to spend your night, Saturday night, and raising
- 29:12Speaker 2: awareness for the Ronald McDonald House and a great cause.
- 29:15Speaker 2: $ 1. 5 million raised. That's awesome. If you missed the story,
- 29:19Speaker 2: that's in one night. The Cairo7. com has the story because
- 29:23Speaker 2: Monique Minlovin was one of the emcees of the event,
- 29:26Speaker 2: the co-anchor of Channel 7's news here in Seattle. So
- 29:30Speaker 2: hats off to all you people because that is a
- 29:31Speaker 2: fantastic charity. It's just awesome. The Seahawks, of course, now
- 29:36Speaker 2: have a big task on their hands on the field
- 29:39Speaker 2: on Sunday night. when they play the undefeated Kenneth Walkers
- 29:41Speaker 2: of Kansas City. National pregame shows across the NFL yesterday
- 29:45Speaker 2: all talking about whether the Seahawks should be replacing Sam
- 29:47Speaker 2: Darnold with Drew Lockett, quarterback. Seven interceptions in the last
- 29:51Speaker 2: three games. Ten sacks the last two games for Darnold.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Since he returned from that glute injury in week three
- 29:56Speaker 2: in Washington, the Seahawks have lost three games. That's as
- 29:59Speaker 2: many games, of course, as they lost all last season
- 30:00Speaker 2: through 20 weeks of the regular season and the playoffs. Locke,
- 30:05Speaker 2: by the way, was the NFL's second-rated passer in the
- 30:08Speaker 2: two games that he played and won while Darnold was injured.
- 30:12Speaker 2: And that, of course, sparked a lot of online and
- 30:15Speaker 2: in the bars and barbershop talk around the weekend here
- 30:18Speaker 2: in Seattle about making Locke the new quarterback. But Mike
- 30:21Speaker 2: McDonald had none of it. This is what he said online.
- 30:23Speaker 2: just hours after the game ended in Denver, the next morning,
- 30:26Speaker 2: in fact, he made it a point. It was just telling,
- 30:29Speaker 2: it was underscoring the context of this. He said it
- 30:33Speaker 2: in his first public availability that he could say after
- 30:37Speaker 2: coming back from Denver, he didn't want the players to
- 30:39Speaker 2: wait the entire weekend and find out and wonder what
- 30:43Speaker 2: the locker room wondering what they're going to do a quarterback.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I mean, McDonald could have easily said, Oh, we're everyone's competing.
- 30:49Speaker 2: We're going to evaluate everything that happens all the time.
- 30:52Speaker 2: He did not say that. He was pretty clear in
- 30:57Speaker 2: making sure that his first public message on Friday, so
- 31:01Speaker 2: that there's no dispute and there was no question in
- 31:03Speaker 2: the player's mind all the way up into this week.
- 31:07Speaker 2: He was pretty clear about what his decision was. And
- 31:09Speaker 2: it was about Sam Darnold as our quarterback.
- 31:11Speaker 8: Mike, on the last interception, what did you see looking
- 31:15Speaker 8: back on it? And how would you just describe your performance?
- 31:18Speaker 8: confidence level right now and Sam and us also his
- 31:21Speaker 8: confidence level because it feels like that's pretty important for
- 31:23Speaker 8: that position.
- 31:25Speaker 9: Yeah I think I think it's a similar answer to
- 31:28Speaker 9: what I was what I told Brian was I think
- 31:31Speaker 9: there's things that we can all do to help Sam
- 31:35Speaker 9: play better football and we trust Sam we believe in
- 31:39Speaker 9: him and we feel like we feel like he's definitely
- 31:43Speaker 9: part of a solution you know in terms of us
- 31:45Speaker 9: playing better football on offense and at quarterback Seahawks style
- 31:49Speaker 9: offense that uh we all envisioned.
- 31:51Speaker 2: When hi mike what you say sam's uh best chance
- 31:56Speaker 2: of a solution he's you believe he's part of solution
- 31:58Speaker 2: what about sam's game makes him the solution what are
- 32:02Speaker 2: the traits that you're now trying to draw of an
- 32:04Speaker 2: attack that you're not getting right now.
- 32:08Speaker 9: Well i mean you guys have been here over the
- 32:11Speaker 9: last two years we just won a world championship with
- 32:14Speaker 9: them um We believe in the guy.
- 32:18Speaker 2: We see him every day.
- 32:19Speaker 9: We see what he does.
- 32:21Speaker 2: We see the plays he's been able to make.
- 32:23Speaker 9: We see the actual talent.
- 32:28Speaker 2: All those things.
- 32:32Speaker 9: That's where my mind is.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Yeah, a good reminder from Mike McDonald is he just
- 32:39Speaker 2: won the Super Bowl eight months ago. We're not cutting
- 32:42Speaker 2: bait on him yet. And That was what he wanted
- 32:46Speaker 2: to say on Friday so that the locker room had
- 32:47Speaker 2: no question over the weekend while they didn't do anything
- 32:50Speaker 2: Saturday and Sunday that the message was clear. This is
- 32:53Speaker 2: our guy. Jessamyn, I think the bigger story here is
- 32:57Speaker 2: what is the story with Sam Darnold and the Seahawks
- 33:00Speaker 2: beyond his contract ending now? His contract ends after 2027.
- 33:03Speaker 4: And Drew Locks does too.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Drew Locks ends this year.
- 33:06Speaker 4: This year.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Correct. And Sam Darnold's ends next year. And of course the- M.O.
- 33:11Speaker 2: for John Schneider in his 17 years as general manager
- 33:14Speaker 2: has been to give new contract extensions going into the
- 33:18Speaker 2: final years of Guy's deals, and that will be Darnold
- 33:21Speaker 2: next year. It will be the third year. When I
- 33:23Speaker 2: asked Schneider at the Combine in Indianapolis in March, hey,
- 33:28Speaker 2: what about Sam Darnold's contract? He just won a Super Bowl.
- 33:31Speaker 2: He said, well, Greg, this is year two. He hasn't
- 33:33Speaker 2: even had year two of his three-year deal. You understand
- 33:35Speaker 2: it's a three-year deal, right?
- 33:36Speaker 1: Yes.
- 33:37Speaker 2: The implication was clear is that we don't do this
- 33:39Speaker 2: until the entering the final year of his contract. Well,
- 33:41Speaker 2: that's next summer. I am. I have not talked to
- 33:45Speaker 2: John Schneider about this. Schneider hasn't talked publicly since summer.
- 33:49Speaker 4: It's been a little quiet. For a boisterous human.
- 33:53Speaker 2: We don't get. Well, he's not quiet, but he's quiet
- 33:55Speaker 2: with us because we don't get a lot of access
- 33:57Speaker 2: to him at Seahawks, but the media and the beat writers.
- 34:00Speaker 2: But I'm sure that he's got some pause now over.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Wait a minute. Do I want to pay– the going
- 34:06Speaker 2: rate for him will be $ 50 million or more next year.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Okay, but we've also seen him go elsewhere, and he
- 34:13Speaker 3: has not been successful anywhere but here.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Well, he was that one year in Minnesota, 14-3 with
- 34:19Speaker 2: 3,500 yards.
- 34:20Speaker 4: Yes, okay, okay. I'm just saying to the point of success.
- 34:23Speaker 6: Correct.
- 34:23Speaker 2: He's never won like he has here. But which Sam
- 34:27Speaker 2: Darnold is he? Is he the one from Minnesota in
- 34:30Speaker 2: 2024 and Seattle in 2025? Or is he the one
- 34:33Speaker 2: that led the NFL in turnovers last regular season and
- 34:35Speaker 2: is leading it this season in only three games, four games?
- 34:39Speaker 2: It is a valid question of how much do they
- 34:41Speaker 2: want to commit beyond 2027 to a quarterback who continues
- 34:45Speaker 2: to lead the league in turnovers?
- 34:47Speaker 4: Well, when they clearly need to shore up their running
- 34:50Speaker 4: back situation.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Well, that would sure help. And That has nothing to
- 34:53Speaker 2: do with Sam Darnold, but it has everything to do
- 34:55Speaker 2: with Sam Darnold's productivity.
- 34:56Speaker 4: No, I'm just saying like where allocation goes.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean– but we see an organizational philosophy that
- 35:02Speaker 2: they're not going to spend big bucks, no whammies on
- 35:04Speaker 2: running backs. They are going to do that at other positions,
- 35:07Speaker 2: including quarterback, but not a running back. And that's why
- 35:09Speaker 2: they drafted DeJarion Price because now he'd be under rookie deal–
- 35:12Speaker 2: rookie contract for three years after this one with a
- 35:15Speaker 2: fifth-year option. But Sam Darnold's contract ending next year has
- 35:18Speaker 2: a whole different hue now, doesn't it? A month and
- 35:23Speaker 2: a half ago, it would have been a no-brainer. They're
- 35:25Speaker 2: going to re-sign him for $ 50 million well into the 2030s.
- 35:27Speaker 2: He's only 29 years old. Let's go. We're set at quarterback.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Now the guy who's won your two starts and been spotless,
- 35:37Speaker 2: the second-ranked passer in the league when he was playing,
- 35:39Speaker 2: Drew Locke, now his contract ends at the end of
- 35:42Speaker 2: the season. And the guy who you have under contract
- 35:45Speaker 2: for next year that you were planning on giving an
- 35:47Speaker 2: extension to has seven interceptions in three games. I mean,
- 35:54Speaker 2: four games, I guess, if you count the Washington game.
- 35:57Speaker 2: There is for sure pause to say this is not
- 36:00Speaker 2: an automatic that it was even in August. And that,
- 36:03Speaker 2: to me, is the bigger story here. Not who's going
- 36:05Speaker 2: to start against Kansas City. But what is this doing
- 36:08Speaker 2: to the Seahawks' long-term play? Are we saying, is there
- 36:11Speaker 2: anyone that would stand up and say Jalen Milrow is
- 36:13Speaker 2: the quarterback of the future here? There's nothing to suggest that.
- 36:19Speaker 4: I think Sam's got it. He's just not there right now.
- 36:23Speaker 2: And a lot of people agree with you. And so far,
- 36:25Speaker 2: the Seahawks do as well. This will be another test
- 36:27Speaker 2: on Sunday night against the unbeaten Chiefs, who aren't just
- 36:30Speaker 2: doing it just from Sam Lawton.
- 36:32Speaker 4: They're due for a big fat L.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Aren't you just because of Kenneth Walker? They have a
- 36:36Speaker 2: defense that, well, I know the Chargers are just wayward
- 36:38Speaker 2: on offense right now, but they held them to six
- 36:40Speaker 2: points yesterday. Mike McDaniel might lose his job as the
- 36:42Speaker 2: play caller. Jim Harbaugh wasn't very great about saying, yeah,
- 36:48Speaker 2: we're all good on offense because they're not. They just
- 36:50Speaker 2: scored six points.
- 36:51Speaker 6: Jim Harbaugh?
- 36:52Speaker 4: Odd in the media?
- 36:53Speaker 2: What? Yeah, he made people in L.A. think that Mike
- 36:56Speaker 2: McDaniel might not be around long.
- 36:57Speaker 6: Up next.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Let's talk about the Huskies quarterback situation. Is Elijah Brown
- 37:02Speaker 2: the man now? What about the $ 4 million in NIL
- 37:05Speaker 2: money they spent on DeMond Williams, the guy who was
- 37:08Speaker 2: there on the sidelines in West Lafayette, Indiana, Dave Softy
- 37:12Speaker 2: Mahler with the Huskies in their win over Purdue on
- 37:14Speaker 2: Friday night? Ask Jed Fish that question. Who's next, a quarterback?
- 37:18Speaker 2: You'll hear his answer next, Jed Fish's answer to that next,
- 37:21Speaker 2: and we'll talk about the Huskies quarterback situation on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 37:32Speaker 1: This is the Countdown to Monday Night Football with Greg Bell.
- 37:36Speaker 2: He's going to go into the open field.
- 37:38Speaker 1: As we count you down to tonight's game at 515.
- 37:41Speaker 1: He'll coast in for the touchdown. Brought to you by
- 37:45Speaker 1: Frost Brew Coors Light. Cold as the Rockies. On Sports
- 37:49Speaker 1: Radio 93.3.
- 37:50Speaker 2: KJR FM. That's right, 5-15 tonight. We've got Commanders at
- 37:59Speaker 2: 49ers in Santa Clara from Kevin Harlan and Westwood 1.
- 38:02Speaker 2: The Seahawks could sure use the Commanders doing what the
- 38:06Speaker 2: Commanders did to them, which is win. They only have
- 38:09Speaker 2: one win this season, 1-3-1 the Commanders, and it's against
- 38:12Speaker 2: the Seahawks in a 5-0.
- 38:14Speaker 4: Go fighting, Dan Quinns.
- 38:16Speaker 2: San Francisco team, yeah. An upset tonight would put the
- 38:19Speaker 2: Seahawks two games behind. The 49ers, not counting the fact
- 38:23Speaker 2: that they lost to San Francisco, they do play them
- 38:25Speaker 2: again next month in Santa Clara. But it would help
- 38:28Speaker 2: to be two games back instead of three. But one
- 38:32Speaker 2: can only hope.
- 38:32Speaker 3: I can't say out loud the texts I said to
- 38:35Speaker 3: my friends who work for the Commanders and play for them,
- 38:38Speaker 3: but I would just say, go get them.
- 38:45Speaker 2: The Washington Huskies won a Big Ten game on Friday night.
- 38:49Speaker 2: They went to West Lafayette, Indiana, and beat Purdue. They
- 38:51Speaker 2: had a new quarterback doing it, Elijah Brown. This is
- 38:54Speaker 2: what it sounded like on KJR from Elyse Woodward, Cam Cleland,
- 38:57Speaker 2: and Dave Softy-Moller.
- 38:58Speaker 10: A shift in formation, heavy on the right side now
- 39:01Speaker 10: for Brown, trying to punch it in in a scoreless
- 39:03Speaker 10: game here on the road. Short pass right side to Graff, potted,
- 39:07Speaker 10: and he rolls into.
- 39:08Speaker 4: The end zone.
- 39:10Speaker 10: Washington, touchdown on the board. They score first here in
- 39:14Speaker 10: the first quarter at Purdue. The Huskies have to get
- 39:17Speaker 10: to the one-yard line to get a first down.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Bonner, quick toss right side.
- 39:22Speaker 10: He's gone to the 10 and into the end zone.
- 39:26Speaker 4: Down the right side, it is Bonner.
- 39:29Speaker 2: With the catch for the touchdown. His first as a Husky.
- 39:35Speaker 10: It is a 25-yard reception for the true.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Freshman, Brian Bonner.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Bonner on the right hip. Brown takes the shotgun snap.
- 39:43Speaker 10: Hand off Bonner, and he is into the end zone.
- 39:46Speaker 2: A Washington touchdown. The crowd booing.
- 39:50Speaker 10: The Huskies around us clapping. It is another touchdown here
- 39:55Speaker 10: in the first half, 23-17.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Big start for the Huskies and a running game, at
- 40:03Speaker 2: least a rushing touchdown from the freshman running back. Yeah,
- 40:07Speaker 2: that's what they've lacked most of the season. Elijah Brown
- 40:09Speaker 2: was 21 of 27 for 302 yards, three touchdowns, did
- 40:12Speaker 2: have three interceptions, but they won their first Big Ten
- 40:16Speaker 2: game with Brown starting. Brown, of course, the transfer from Stanford.
- 40:19Speaker 2: This was his first start for Washington, and they scored
- 40:22Speaker 2: 24 points against a FBS opponent, football bowl subdivision, meaning
- 40:26Speaker 2: the top level, for the first time all year.
- 40:29Speaker 11: Hmm.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Williams is on the sideline with a rib injury and
- 40:33Speaker 2: six starts, three losses. He's the 105th ranked passer in
- 40:37Speaker 2: major college football. But he's getting $ 4 million in NIL money,
- 40:42Speaker 2: some of which raised by private donors. That is now
- 40:46Speaker 2: a factor. It's just like NFL. Wait a minute. Who
- 40:48Speaker 2: are you paying? That is a factor here. Because here's
- 40:51Speaker 2: the deal. And we're going to talk to Dave Softy-Moller,
- 40:54Speaker 2: who was in West Lafayette. We're going to talk to
- 40:56Speaker 2: him at 11 o'clock. And one of the questions I'm
- 40:58Speaker 2: going to ask is how much of a factor is,
- 41:00Speaker 2: because it is a factor of how much you're paying
- 41:02Speaker 2: this guy, because you're going to ask those same donors
- 41:04Speaker 2: next year for more money to shake them down for
- 41:06Speaker 2: somebody else.
- 41:07Speaker 3: I had a lot of people reaching out to me
- 41:09Speaker 3: with our own situation at Washington State wondering that same thing.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Such as?
- 41:14Speaker 3: Why wasn't Caden Pinnock benched prior? Because he has an
- 41:19Speaker 3: NIL deal and I had people asking me and I'm like,
- 41:22Speaker 3: I don't know the intricacies of that. I can't tell,
- 41:26Speaker 3: but people wanted to see him sooner than, or I'm sorry,
- 41:29Speaker 3: they wanted to see Eshelman sooner than they did in,
- 41:33Speaker 3: you know, six games. And I didn't look at it
- 41:36Speaker 3: that way because I'm always focused on the field. And
- 41:39Speaker 3: I thought that, Penick had a chance, and we couldn't
- 41:43Speaker 3: get the running game going. The offensive line, all returners,
- 41:46Speaker 3: by the way, they couldn't really protect him. I know
- 41:50Speaker 3: he's smaller than Eshelman, but a lot of people wanted
- 41:54Speaker 3: to know if that was the situation.
- 41:56Speaker 4: And I can't speak to it, but it's a question.
- 41:59Speaker 2: It's totally part of the calculus, because you just asked
- 42:01Speaker 2: donors to give money to the starting quarterback, and then
- 42:03Speaker 2: you're going to not play him. Those are the same
- 42:06Speaker 2: donors you're going to go back to for more money
- 42:07Speaker 2: for the next quarterback.
- 42:09Speaker 4: I feel so bad for coaches in this situation right now.
- 42:13Speaker 4: I just, I can't stand it.
- 42:14Speaker 2: A lot of them are leaving.
- 42:15Speaker 4: I cannot stand it.
- 42:15Speaker 2: A lot of them are leaving.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Chris Peterson saw the writing on the wall. He was
- 42:19Speaker 3: the first one to really see it.
- 42:20Speaker 2: There were many others like him, but yes, there are coaches,
- 42:24Speaker 2: mostly old school coaches who've been around a while who
- 42:27Speaker 2: are like, I'm out. I don't, Chris Peterson is a
- 42:29Speaker 2: good example of that.
- 42:30Speaker 3: He was the first that was notable like that. Yes.
- 42:34Speaker 2: I don't want to go there. My whole job being
- 42:36Speaker 2: to re-recruit the players I already have on my team
- 42:39Speaker 2: and go shake down boosters for more money for a
- 42:41Speaker 2: new quarterback if you just ask them for money for
- 42:43Speaker 2: $ 4 million for DeMond Williams?
- 42:45Speaker 4: Coach to coach.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Yeah. I'm sorry, I'm very passionate about this.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Now the situation is, when a guy does well unexpectedly
- 42:52Speaker 2: off the bench, how do you pay to keep him?
- 42:55Speaker 2: If Elijah Brown keeps winning Big Ten games, he needs
- 42:57Speaker 2: an NIL deal to stay, or else somebody else will
- 42:59Speaker 2: take him. Eshelman, if Eshelman does what he did at
- 43:02Speaker 2: Oregon State on national television again, then those in the
- 43:06Speaker 2: Palouse are going to have to start raising money to
- 43:08Speaker 2: keep him. After they had raised money to get panic
- 43:11Speaker 2: from UC Davis. And it's crazy.
- 43:13Speaker 4: I can't stand it.
- 43:15Speaker 2: You can't even enjoy as a college fan. You can't
- 43:17Speaker 2: even enjoy a great performance by an Eshelman without a
- 43:20Speaker 2: Coug fan going, uh-oh, how are we going to keep him?
- 43:23Speaker 4: It's literally what I was thinking after the game.
- 43:26Speaker 2: With justification. Look at Mateer. Mateer has a great season.
- 43:32Speaker 2: In old college football, you'd be like, wow, the Cougs
- 43:34Speaker 2: are set for years at quarterback.
- 43:36Speaker 3: When Cam Ward was flailing, that question came up as well. Correct.
- 43:41Speaker 4: Because he was the first NIL guy that Wazoo had.
- 43:44Speaker 3: Correct.
- 43:44Speaker 4: And so we were like, wait a minute here.
- 43:47Speaker 3: He's kind of got something here. And why did we
- 43:51Speaker 3: not see him? I can't answer that question because I
- 43:54Speaker 3: don't know.
- 43:55Speaker 2: When we come back, we're going to get into this
- 43:57Speaker 2: question with Dave Softy Mahler, who was on the sidelines
- 44:00Speaker 2: at Purdue. Is Elijah Brown the guy? Now, remember, the
- 44:03Speaker 2: Huskies have a week off. They're a bye week. And
- 44:05Speaker 2: then next week, they go at Nebraska. He asked Jed
- 44:08Speaker 2: Fish after the game on Friday night at Purdue, who's
- 44:12Speaker 2: your quarterback for Nebraska in two weeks? You'll hear the
- 44:14Speaker 2: coach's answer to that. And we'll talk to Dave Softy
- 44:17Speaker 2: Mahler live on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. And we'll talk
- 44:20Speaker 2: about this issue and about the NIL money and about
- 44:23Speaker 2: the donor fatigue. That's next on 93.3 KJRFM. Kudos to
- 44:49Speaker 2: our man Dave Softy Mahler for getting right to the
- 44:51Speaker 2: chase after the Huskies beat Purdue on Friday night, asking
- 44:55Speaker 2: the question that Husky fans want answered right now, even
- 44:58Speaker 2: though they don't play this week. Who will be the
- 45:00Speaker 2: quarterback when Washington plays Nebraska on Halloween? DeMond Williams makes
- 45:06Speaker 2: $ 4 million in NIL money. That's not an insignificant factor here.
- 45:10Speaker 2: But he's also a 105th-ranked passer in college football through
- 45:13Speaker 2: six starts, three of them losses. First three games in
- 45:15Speaker 2: the Big Ten were losses with DeMond Williams. He had
- 45:17Speaker 2: a rib injury. Enter Elijah Brown, the transfer from Stanford.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Throws three touchdown passes. Did throw three interceptions. Washington gets
- 45:25Speaker 2: its first win in the Big Ten and scores 24
- 45:27Speaker 2: points against an FBS opponent for the first time all
- 45:30Speaker 2: year with Elijah Brown, a quarterback. So Dave Softy Mahler
- 45:33Speaker 2: asked the question at all Husky fans. wanted answered you
- 45:36Speaker 2: didn't get it answered then dave what do you think
- 45:38Speaker 2: is really where they're headed hello sir.
- 45:40Speaker 11: I'm pissed off man how dare jed not answer my
- 45:43Speaker 11: question in the seconds after a big win over purdue
- 45:46Speaker 11: you know uh i'm not surprised he said that and
- 45:49Speaker 11: frankly at today's press conference at one o'clock he's going
- 45:52Speaker 11: to be asked again who's going to start in nebraska
- 45:54Speaker 11: i won't answer today if i were him either no
- 45:56Speaker 11: I would just let Nebraska prepare for both guys.
- 45:59Speaker 6: Why not? Because you've got two.
- 46:00Speaker 11: Quarterbacks that are totally different, right, in style between DeMond
- 46:04Speaker 11: Williams and Elijah Brown. I mean, one guy's tall, one
- 46:07Speaker 11: guy's short, one guy runs, one guy doesn't. I would
- 46:11Speaker 11: let the Cornhuskers, because they've got to buy two, right,
- 46:14Speaker 11: this week before they play UW next Saturday. I'd make
- 46:17Speaker 11: them get ready for both quarterbacks. So I would not
- 46:19Speaker 11: say a damn thing if I'm Jed Fish.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Who do you think actually takes the field Halloween night
- 46:24Speaker 2: against Nebraska?
- 46:25Speaker 11: I think it's going to be Elijah Brown, to be
- 46:27Speaker 11: honest with you.
- 46:28Speaker 6: I just think he's earned it.
- 46:29Speaker 11: I think the offense, you know, my whole thing going
- 46:31Speaker 11: into the game on Friday night was, look, I get
- 46:33Speaker 11: that it's Purdue. They're 114th in the country in total defense.
- 46:37Speaker 11: They're 119th in scoring defense. They're 94th in rushing defense.
- 46:42Speaker 6: Blah, blah, blah.
- 46:42Speaker 11: But this offense just needs to look competent, right? I mean,
- 46:46Speaker 11: I don't care who you're playing. When you're as bad
- 46:48Speaker 11: as they've been, and you mentioned the numbers there, Greg,
- 46:50Speaker 11: for DeMond Williams, you know, his ranking across the country.
- 46:54Speaker 11: When you're 90th in scoring offense, or excuse me, total
- 46:56Speaker 11: offense in college football, when you're 88th in scoring offense
- 47:01Speaker 11: in year three for Jed Fish, who's an offensive guy,
- 47:04Speaker 11: you just needed to come out and look like you
- 47:06Speaker 11: knew what the hell you were doing, right?
- 47:07Speaker 6: And I think they at least showed that at times
- 47:10Speaker 6: against Purdue.
- 47:11Speaker 11: Had some interceptions, obviously, but, you know, that's a guy
- 47:13Speaker 11: making his first start at UW on the road in
- 47:15Speaker 11: a fairly... Hostile environment. I don't know if it came
- 47:18Speaker 11: across on TV, but the Husky sideline is literally right
- 47:21Speaker 11: next to the Purdue student section. And they were yelling
- 47:24Speaker 11: stuff and throwing stuff the entire game at that UW sideline, man. So,
- 47:28Speaker 11: I mean, it kind of reminded me of one of
- 47:30Speaker 11: those crazy gyms in the movie Hoosiers right back in
- 47:32Speaker 11: the day from 40 years ago. Just getting the hell
- 47:35Speaker 11: out of there and looking like they had a clue
- 47:38Speaker 11: as to what they were doing offensively was at least
- 47:40Speaker 11: a step in the right direction compared to where they've
- 47:42Speaker 11: been the last maybe five or six weeks, huh?
- 47:46Speaker 2: Exactly. And that may be as any justification as any
- 47:51Speaker 2: for Elijah Brown, our quarterback. By the way, in the
- 47:53Speaker 2: last hour, the Big Ten announced their television schedule for
- 47:56Speaker 2: that weekend. And Halloween, it'll be 5 p.m. our time,
- 47:59Speaker 2: Washington at Nebraska on the Big Ten Network.
- 48:02Speaker 5: Yep.
- 48:02Speaker 6: Seven o'clock out there. So another get home at two
- 48:04Speaker 6: o'clock in the morning. So whatever.
- 48:06Speaker 2: I don't miss those.
- 48:06Speaker 6: So labor of love, pal. Labor of love.
- 48:08Speaker 2: I remember those Tucson trips on a Saturday night game
- 48:11Speaker 2: were always fun. Let me ask you something I brought
- 48:13Speaker 2: up last segment, which fascinates me. I teach, as you know,
- 48:16Speaker 2: at the University of Washington, the Athletic Leadership Department. I
- 48:18Speaker 2: teach coaches and athletic directors and administrators. And an issue
- 48:23Speaker 2: that they are really, really diving into is this NIL
- 48:26Speaker 2: money and donor fatigue. And that They just gave $ 4
- 48:31Speaker 2: million to DeMond Williams. They had the whole LSU fiasco.
- 48:36Speaker 2: How much of a factor is that in Jed Fisher?
- 48:39Speaker 2: He won't admit it, but Jed Fisher's thinking is, we
- 48:42Speaker 2: just shook down donors and gave some of the department's
- 48:45Speaker 2: revenues to our starting quarterback. Do I keep him on
- 48:47Speaker 2: the bench? And then I got to go back to
- 48:50Speaker 2: those same donors and ask for more money for Elijah Brown, perhaps,
- 48:53Speaker 2: if he plays well?
- 48:54Speaker 11: I guess it just depends on the way it's all
- 48:57Speaker 11: set up, right? Like if you can prove to me
- 49:00Speaker 11: that somebody out there owns a business, a car dealership, restaurant, whatever,
- 49:05Speaker 11: and that guy stepped up and gave money directly to
- 49:09Speaker 11: Washington that he wanted earmarked to keep DeMond Williams in Seattle,
- 49:13Speaker 11: and that guy's irritated that DeMond's getting benched, and that
- 49:16Speaker 11: guy's a whale that you want to get more money
- 49:18Speaker 11: out of later on down the road I mean, that
- 49:20Speaker 11: could open up some problematic situations, I think, for a
- 49:23Speaker 11: college football team. But keep in mind, and if you're
- 49:26Speaker 11: a teacher, then you know this, that UW's got $ 20
- 49:29Speaker 11: million to spend in-house on athletes. And 15 of that
- 49:33Speaker 11: or so, 14 of that's going to football. So that
- 49:35Speaker 11: may not necessarily be coming from one individual.
- 49:38Speaker 2: No, it probably isn't.
- 49:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 49:40Speaker 11: It's only a problem when emotions get in the way, right?
- 49:43Speaker 11: Like if this is just money from the House settlement
- 49:45Speaker 11: that's coming straight from Washington– and the $ 4 million was
- 49:49Speaker 11: pulled from that to pay DeMond Williams, and he's making,
- 49:51Speaker 11: you know, half a million bucks or whatever it is
- 49:54Speaker 11: in change from some NIL deal somewhere else.
- 49:57Speaker 6: Okay, fine.
- 49:57Speaker 11: But if you start allowing individual donors to dictate who
- 50:01Speaker 11: they want their money spent on and how much playing
- 50:03Speaker 11: time these guys want to get, and if you especially
- 50:05Speaker 11: need these guys down the road to pony up more cash, then, yeah,
- 50:09Speaker 11: that could be an issue. I mean, to me, look, Greg,
- 50:12Speaker 11: I'll just say this. If I'm a Husky fan and
- 50:14Speaker 11: I'm paying money for DeMond Williams specifically, I'm not going
- 50:17Speaker 11: to tell Jet Fish you're playing him because I'm paying him.
- 50:20Speaker 6: I'm still telling him play the best guy. End of story. Right.
- 50:23Speaker 2: And my understanding of most NIL deals is that they're
- 50:26Speaker 2: not earmarked for specific players. They just go into a
- 50:28Speaker 2: pool of money.
- 50:29Speaker 11: Well, the NIL, I mean, what was NIL supposed to
- 50:33Speaker 11: be all about? NIL was supposed to be about, I'm
- 50:36Speaker 11: hiring you to endorse a product for me.
- 50:38Speaker 6: That's it.
- 50:39Speaker 3: Right?
- 50:39Speaker 6: End of story. I mean, the house money is money
- 50:41Speaker 6: that the schools are paying athletes to play for the school.
- 50:44Speaker 6: That's it. Period.
- 50:45Speaker 11: There's no commercial endorsement, you know, attached to that to
- 50:49Speaker 11: taco time or you know, Beery and Toyota or, you know, whatever.
- 50:53Speaker 6: This is money that's on the payroll. It's on the
- 50:55Speaker 6: salary cap. It's in the budget to pay guys.
- 50:57Speaker 11: So, to me, it's a sunk cost at this point,
- 50:59Speaker 11: and I would really hope that that would not make
- 51:01Speaker 11: a difference whatsoever in Jed Fish's decision. Whatever gives him
- 51:05Speaker 11: a best chance to beat Nebraska, because this is a
- 51:07Speaker 11: different animal now. I mean, they went to Purdue and
- 51:09Speaker 11: they faced the 94th best rushing defense in college football,
- 51:13Speaker 11: and they had a great day on the ground. Well,
- 51:15Speaker 11: Nebraska's 23rd. They went to Purdue and they played the
- 51:18Speaker 11: 114th best total defense in the country. And they put
- 51:20Speaker 11: up 38 points. Well, now Nebraska's 11th, right? So this
- 51:25Speaker 11: is a totally different animal defensively what they'll see on
- 51:28Speaker 11: next Saturday in Lincoln.
- 51:29Speaker 2: What else encouraged you about the– you mentioned the running game.
- 51:33Speaker 2: We talked about Elijah Brown. What else encouraged you about
- 51:35Speaker 2: that win?
- 51:35Speaker 11: The fact that Feme Ijeboy went for a buck 95
- 51:38Speaker 11: on Minnesota and went for 19 yards on us.
- 51:41Speaker 6: That was pretty cool to see.
- 51:42Speaker 11: I think we can look back for now, and this
- 51:45Speaker 11: may change against Nebraska.
- 51:46Speaker 6: It may change against Penn State. Who knows?
- 51:49Speaker 11: And we can look at that Iowa game and just
- 51:51Speaker 11: circle it with like big red Sharpie ink and just
- 51:56Speaker 11: say that's an outlier. That's a sore thumb. That never
- 51:59Speaker 11: happened against UW last year. It really never happened against
- 52:02Speaker 11: UW even when Steve Belichick was here. That's an outlier, right?
- 52:06Speaker 11: That is an absolute sore thumb type of game for UW.
- 52:10Speaker 11: What happened that night?
- 52:11Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 52:11Speaker 11: I mean, you know, they got pretty good running backs
- 52:13Speaker 11: in Iowa.
- 52:14Speaker 6: Their defensive and offensive line were shoving us around in
- 52:17Speaker 6: that game. But the longer this goes without that happening again.
- 52:21Speaker 11: you can go back and look at the Iowa game
- 52:23Speaker 11: and say that was kind of a freak thing that
- 52:24Speaker 11: happened against Iowa. But I think when you get a
- 52:27Speaker 11: guy like Ejaboy, who was the Big Ten Offensive Player
- 52:30Speaker 11: of the Week, and he ran for 195 yards, and
- 52:33Speaker 11: then he comes back the next Friday and goes for
- 52:34Speaker 11: 19 yards. I mean, Purdue ran for 300, Greg, on
- 52:38Speaker 11: the Gophers two weeks ago, and they ran for 95,
- 52:41Speaker 11: whatever it was, on UW. So that, to me, was
- 52:44Speaker 11: pretty cool to see that defense bounce back after that
- 52:46Speaker 11: train wreck against the Hawkeyes.
- 52:47Speaker 2: The Tacoma Dodge Tech sign, 49451, two different– Texters, our
- 52:51Speaker 2: friend Keith from the 253 and another 253. Yeah, your boy.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Somehow Jed will get both quarterbacks on the field for sure.
- 52:57Speaker 2: And the other 253 says have split quarterbacks like they
- 53:00Speaker 2: run at Utah could be extremely effective.
- 53:02Speaker 11: I just don't think there's any reason to do any
- 53:04Speaker 11: of that right now.
- 53:05Speaker 6: I mean, why would you not just roll with Elijah Brown?
- 53:07Speaker 6: He put up 38 points.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:09Speaker 11: I mean, he had a career high in passing yards,
- 53:11Speaker 11: matches a career high in touchdowns. The offense looked functional.
- 53:15Speaker 11: It looked like there was some flow there to the offense.
- 53:17Speaker 11: Guys were getting involved. You're running the ball. You had
- 53:20Speaker 11: a threat of a passing attack that really kind of
- 53:22Speaker 11: opened up the run game a little bit against Purdue.
- 53:24Speaker 6: And he threw from the pocket, too. He threw from
- 53:26Speaker 6: the pocket.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Which is what has been DeMond Williams' problem, right?
- 53:29Speaker 11: He looks like a serviceable guy. You watch Elijah Brown throw,
- 53:32Speaker 11: and the guy looks like a legit arm in college football.
- 53:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 53:36Speaker 11: I mean, if you want to put DeMond Williams at
- 53:38Speaker 11: tailback and then the slot or whatever and run some
- 53:40Speaker 11: Jet sweeps, I guess fine. But, I mean, there's no
- 53:43Speaker 11: need to play both of them right now. And he
- 53:45Speaker 11: might do that. I mean, Jet may not be able
- 53:46Speaker 11: to help himself, honestly, in this game against Nebraska. He
- 53:50Speaker 11: may go out there and put number one out there
- 53:52Speaker 11: with number seven. But I just think, you know, we
- 53:54Speaker 11: went into the game, at least for me, telling myself
- 53:57Speaker 11: Elijah Brown's got a chance to win the job.
- 53:59Speaker 6: And I think he won the job on Friday.
- 54:02Speaker 2: Dave Softy Mahler, who was in West Lafayette, Indiana. By
- 54:04Speaker 2: the way... your first time there, I assumed?
- 54:06Speaker 6: Yes, first time there. There's nothing there.
- 54:09Speaker 2: There is nothing there.
- 54:10Speaker 3: Period.
- 54:10Speaker 2: It is flat and nothing there.
- 54:12Speaker 11: Yeah, we actually stayed in Indianapolis on Thursday night, and
- 54:15Speaker 11: then we drove in on Friday afternoon, so we watched
- 54:18Speaker 11: the Seahawks game at a bar in Indy with a
- 54:20Speaker 11: bunch of Seahawks fans that were also Dawg fans that
- 54:22Speaker 11: were there, but it's funny, man, there's a lot of
- 54:24Speaker 11: backwater places in the Big Ten. I mean, I know
- 54:26Speaker 11: there's a couple in the Pac-12, Oregon State, Wazoo, whatever,
- 54:29Speaker 11: but Getting to West Lafayette is kind of a pain
- 54:31Speaker 11: in the ass. Getting to Lansing is kind of a
- 54:33Speaker 11: pain in the ass. Getting to Penn State, definitely a
- 54:35Speaker 11: pain in the ass. So it's not all fun and games, man,
- 54:38Speaker 11: with these Big Ten locations.
- 54:40Speaker 2: I can tell you that.
- 54:40Speaker 4: Well, Kansas State was lovely.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Manhattan, a little apple. Tell me what time you got home.
- 54:45Speaker 2: The game ended at what, like 1130? Yes.
- 54:48Speaker 6: I walked.
- 54:49Speaker 11: I will check my text messages to my wife on
- 54:52Speaker 11: Saturday morning. I walked into the house at 4.55 a.m.
- 54:55Speaker 11: There you go.
- 54:56Speaker 2: There you go.
- 54:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:59Speaker 6: It was good.
- 55:01Speaker 3: Good.
- 55:01Speaker 6: Like I said, labor of love, man.
- 55:03Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right. Those night games, road games, I'd miss Tucson.
- 55:07Speaker 2: I wasn't coming from West Lafayette, Indiana, though. That's a
- 55:09Speaker 2: good one.
- 55:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 55:11Speaker 2: Let me ask you about the Seahawks. And, yeah, where
- 55:14Speaker 2: do we start? But we start with the quarterback, of course.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Do you understand why Mike McDonald came out as he
- 55:20Speaker 2: did so unequivocally that Sam Donald's the guy on Friday?
- 55:23Speaker 3: Yes.
- 55:24Speaker 2: And you think that's the right move?
- 55:25Speaker 3: Totally. Totally.
- 55:26Speaker 11: Because I think if you bench Sam Darnold, I think
- 55:29Speaker 11: you're going to Drew Locke for the rest of the year,
- 55:31Speaker 11: if not for a while. I mean, you're not going
- 55:33Speaker 11: to flip-flop. I mean, this isn't high school football.
- 55:36Speaker 6: It's not college. It's ridiculous.
- 55:37Speaker 11: I mean, if you bench Sam Darnold for Drew Locke,
- 55:40Speaker 11: you've got to allow Drew Locke to pick up some momentum.
- 55:43Speaker 11: You've got to allow Drew Locke to get some steam going.
- 55:45Speaker 11: You've got to allow the offense to get some comfort
- 55:47Speaker 11: with him. So I just think you better be damn careful, man,
- 55:50Speaker 11: if you make that move with Sam because it feels
- 55:52Speaker 11: like if you make the move with Sam, you might
- 55:54Speaker 11: be making the move with Sam forever, if not at
- 55:56Speaker 11: least for a large majority of this season, meaning if
- 56:00Speaker 11: things just go totally south and totally haywire down the
- 56:03Speaker 11: road with Drew Locke, you could then maybe go back
- 56:05Speaker 11: to Sam Darnold. But there's nothing worse to me. then
- 56:08Speaker 11: a head coach who can't make up his mind and
- 56:10Speaker 11: flip-flops back and forth between quarterbacks. So I think Sam
- 56:14Speaker 11: Darnold's earned it. I mean, the guy won the damn
- 56:17Speaker 11: Super Bowl for crying out loud. He was money against
- 56:19Speaker 11: the Rams in the NFC Championship, and they got no
- 56:22Speaker 11: running game to speak of whatsoever. Their offensive line looks
- 56:25Speaker 11: like they're not progressing but regressing from where they were
- 56:29Speaker 11: a year ago. I think that's kind of the biggest
- 56:31Speaker 11: surprise for me in some ways, Greg, is that offensive line. Like,
- 56:34Speaker 11: I really thought, you know, going from last year to
- 56:36Speaker 11: this year, bringing everybody back for the first time since
- 56:38Speaker 11: 04 to 05, that they'd be dominant.
- 56:41Speaker 6: And they're not dominant at all.
- 56:43Speaker 11: I mean, how many times did Darnold get popped in
- 56:45Speaker 11: that game?
- 56:47Speaker 2: 17 times.
- 56:48Speaker 6: That's ridiculous. And how many times did Bo Nix get hit?
- 56:51Speaker 6: Not even nearly as much, right?
- 56:52Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 56:52Speaker 11: In that game on Thursday. So, I just, again, you
- 56:55Speaker 11: better be damn sure. Before you make that move that
- 56:59Speaker 11: you've lost Sam Darnold and that Darnold's not going to
- 57:02Speaker 11: climb out of this before you make that call. Because
- 57:04Speaker 11: when you do make it, you're probably making it for
- 57:06Speaker 11: the rest.
- 57:06Speaker 3: Of the year.
- 57:06Speaker 2: And here's the thing. Now you have a Darnold decision
- 57:10Speaker 2: this time next year. Actually, more like next summer when
- 57:12Speaker 2: his contract's ending. Correct. And I think that's the bigger
- 57:16Speaker 2: issue here is they've got a decision to make on
- 57:18Speaker 2: who their quarterback is beyond. He's only 29.
- 57:20Speaker 1: Right.
- 57:22Speaker 2: Maybe they aren't paying $ 50 million a year anymore.
- 57:24Speaker 11: You might even have a decision in March of this
- 57:27Speaker 11: coming season. I mean, they extended Witherspoon and JSN with
- 57:31Speaker 11: two years left. I know one of the years was
- 57:34Speaker 11: the fifth-year deal, right?
- 57:35Speaker 2: That's right, the fifth-year option.
- 57:36Speaker 11: But they don't like to wait and make a quarterback
- 57:39Speaker 11: go into a free agent year without any kind of
- 57:42Speaker 11: idea what his future is going to look like. Yeah,
- 57:44Speaker 11: they're probably seven, six months away from maybe having to
- 57:48Speaker 11: make some kind of a decision on Sam. So I'd
- 57:51Speaker 11: play him for now, but obviously there's a breaking point.
- 57:54Speaker 11: He goes out and looks terrible again against Kansas City
- 57:56Speaker 11: and throws four more interceptions. Then we've got to have
- 57:59Speaker 11: a conversation about who's going to start that Bears game.
- 58:02Speaker 11: But I'd give him at least one more start, man.
- 58:04Speaker 2: How about you? I think he's going to start for
- 58:07Speaker 2: the remainder of the season. Come hell or high water,
- 58:09Speaker 2: I really do. And that's because of the decision they
- 58:11Speaker 2: have to make in the next spring. Now you've got
- 58:14Speaker 2: a shorter show today because we've got Commanders 49ers tonight
- 58:17Speaker 2: from EQC. What do you got going on there?
- 58:19Speaker 11: That's a big one, right? We're all Commanders fans. Do
- 58:21Speaker 11: you agree with me that at this point, if you're
- 58:23Speaker 11: a Niner fan, it would be a bit of a
- 58:25Speaker 11: choke job to not win the division?
- 58:26Speaker 6: Yes.
- 58:27Speaker 2: Three-game lead.
- 58:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 58:29Speaker 2: Ten to go after tonight.
- 58:30Speaker 6: Because they're going to be 6-0. They'll win tonight, right?
- 58:33Speaker 4: We want them to choke?
- 58:34Speaker 6: Yes, that's why I'm bringing it up.
- 58:37Speaker 5: Yes.
- 58:38Speaker 6: It would be an absolute choke job.
- 58:39Speaker 2: Yes, especially on the Rams. There's a name for it.
- 58:41Speaker 6: There's a name for it, Jess, but I'm not going
- 58:43Speaker 6: to mention it.
- 58:43Speaker 2: I don't do dare.
- 58:45Speaker 3: I know exactly what you're saying.
- 58:47Speaker 11: Yeah, that would be a huge choke job by them
- 58:52Speaker 11: to not win the West, man, after the start they've
- 58:55Speaker 11: gotten off to. And we'll talk to Hugh about that.
- 58:58Speaker 11: We'll get Hugh's thoughts on the Darnold-Locke thing. We'll get
- 59:00Speaker 11: his thoughts on, obviously, Elijah Brown versus DeMond Williams and Did.
- 59:04Speaker 6: You guys see this Jalen Hurts story that just came out?
- 59:06Speaker 1: I did.
- 59:06Speaker 2: We talked about it.
- 59:07Speaker 6: What the hell are the Eagles doing?
- 59:09Speaker 2: I mean, when you get blood clots in your lungs,
- 59:11Speaker 2: that has to do with the heart and all kinds
- 59:13Speaker 2: of stuff going on there.
- 59:15Speaker 11: Right, but the angle is that apparently they told him
- 59:19Speaker 11: not to sleep.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Did you see that? No, I don't know that part
- 59:22Speaker 2: of it.
- 59:22Speaker 6: And so before their game over the weekend, he was
- 59:25Speaker 6: up for 36 hours.
- 59:29Speaker 4: There are certain things when it comes.
- 59:31Speaker 3: With pulmonary things, and he should just not have been playing.
- 59:35Speaker 6: Exactly. They told him, don't sleep.
- 59:37Speaker 11: It's too dangerous to sleep with your blood clots, so
- 59:40Speaker 11: they keep him up on purpose. Remember in, what was
- 59:43Speaker 11: the movie with Malcolm McDowell? Jess may not know, but
- 59:46Speaker 11: you're old enough like me, Greg, to remember. when they
- 59:48Speaker 11: were pulling his eyes open. Oh, it was, God, what
- 59:51Speaker 11: the hell was.
- 59:51Speaker 6: The name of the movie?
- 59:52Speaker 4: Oh, you're so good at this usually.
- 59:54Speaker 6: With Malcolm McDowell. Come on, somebody will text in. Somebody knows.
- 59:58Speaker 6: Somebody knows. A Clockwork Orange.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: A Clockwork Orange.
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: A Clockwork Orange. Oh, gosh, the torture movie?
- 1:00:04Speaker 11: And they were pulling his eyes open on purpose.
- 1:00:06Speaker 6: Remember that, to keep him open?
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: That's like what the Eagles were doing to Darnold, or
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: to Hertz. And then they went, and then they told
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: him to go out and start a football game. I mean,
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: people should be fired over there for that. That's crazy.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: That's very medically unsound.
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: Unbelievable.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: When at all costs. That's crazy.
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: No, that's really bad. And that's really not good advice.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: My mother had a pulmonary embolism and was completely taken
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: care of in a very different way.
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: Yeah. Did they play? Where was their game this last weekend,
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: by the way?
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: They were home.
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: They were home.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: They lost it to the Panthers.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:41Speaker 11: Tom Pelissero is saying that he was in the hospital
- 1:00:44Speaker 11: until 4 a.m.
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: And did not sleep because sleep was a risk.
- 1:00:47Speaker 11: Despite being up for roughly 36 hours, he played the
- 1:00:50Speaker 11: entire game against Jacksonville.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: And they played him.
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: That is unbelievable, man. Anyway, we'll talk to Hugh about that.
- 1:00:59Speaker 11: I know that Hugh has been up for 36 hours,
- 1:01:01Speaker 11: but not starting a football game next day.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: That Jacksonville game was at Jacksonville, by the way.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: This past weekend they were home.
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Thank you, sir. We'll hear from, what, 3 until 5.15?
- 1:01:12Speaker 11: 3 until 5 or so at the Emerald Queen before
- 1:01:15Speaker 11: Commanders Niners tonight.
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: Go, Commanders.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Appreciate you. Dave Softy Mahler on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: giving us the rundown of what went down in Purdue
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: on Friday when he thinks Elijah Brown earned his right
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: to start at Nebraska in the Huskies' next game on
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: Halloween night. Bye week for the Huskies. Their only media
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: availability is at 1 o'clock today with Coach Jed Fish,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: and as Dave just mentioned, he's Fish is going to
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: get asked about this again, and he's probably going to
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: say nothing because he doesn't have to say anything. Why
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: would he give Nebraska 11 days to prepare for a
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: specific starting quarterback? And there are two different quarterbacks for sure.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: DeMond Williams with much more of a running thread. Elijah
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: Brown in the little I watched of the Purdue game
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: looked very good out of the pocket, which has been
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: DeMond Williams' biggest problem. It's still bugging me as a— if
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: I'm following the Huskies, hoping they win— That they had
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: DeMond Williams at USC with the game on the line,
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: the final two plays, third and fourth down, passing from
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: the pocket. That baffles me to this day. They lost
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: that game because of those decisions.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know exactly where it's for them, but
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: I did question that decision.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Elijah Brown looks much more. He's taller. You can see
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: over the line and across the middle. And he looks
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: much more like a pocket passer, which allows you to
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: play much more of the offense. And Dave Softy Mahler
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: just telling us he thinks Elijah Brown's going to start
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: for Washington in their next game, October 31st. If you
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: missed it, the Big Ten announced here this morning that
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: the Washington-Nebraska game in Lincoln will begin at 5 o'clock
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: Seattle time. It'll be on the Big Ten network. That'll
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: be opposite of the 4.30 p.m. Seattle time, USC hosting
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: Ohio State in the NBC National TV Big Ten primetime
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: game that night. Huskies at Nebraska, October 31st, 5 p.m.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: kickoff on the Big Ten network. Up next, your chance
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: to be a part of the show, 49451 at the
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: Comodage Text Line. We have a lot of feedback already
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: about the Elijah Brown situation versus DeMond Williams as who
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: should be the quarterback for the Huskies. About Sam Darnold
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: and the Seahawks and their future quarterback, not just meaning
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: Kansas City, but beyond. And also at 11.35, we'll come
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: back with your chance to win $ 1, 000 from the Lucky
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Eagle Casino and Hotel on our first Fact or Fiction
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: of the Week. This show won 4-1. This show is
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: the best record on the station.
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: We're the only one above 500, by the way.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: Oh, really? Yeah. By a lot, I think, too.
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: No, we're 18-12.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: 18-12.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: 4-1 this past week.
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: I'm just going to tell you, we're going to cut
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: to the chase. If you want to win $ 1, 000 when
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: we come back, text FACT to 49451. If you don't
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: want to win $ 1, 000, text FICTION to 49451. That's next
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: on 93.3 KJRFM. Kudos to KJ.
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: Barner for what he did for the Ronald McDonald post.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: I have a son who spent only a couple of
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: days and two or three days with many of those kinds.
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: Of visits over his young life. And that was traumatic enough.
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: I can't imagine having to spend weeks there. So what
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: a great cause and what a great guy. Thanks to him.
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: Cut to crap with Sam Darnold. He's our starting quarterback.
- 1:04:27Speaker 7: The problem is, and I'll be Captain Obvious here, we
- 1:04:31Speaker 7: need to have a better offensive line protecting the man
- 1:04:36Speaker 7: and a running back. Fix those two problems and away
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: you go.
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: See how, fans, you.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: Don't need old.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Another quarterback. Just keep Darnold safe.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: Let him pass.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: It's not like he was at, like, 30,000 feet with
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: the window down.
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: You never know.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: That was interesting.
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: Our listeners come from everywhere.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: Including the skies, apparently. Yeah.
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: There's some truth to the offensive line being subpar performance
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: compared to last year. A lot of people pointing fingers
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: at Brian Fleury. He doesn't have the running game and
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: the running backs that Clint Kubiak had last year. Same
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: offensive line with different running backs. That is a factor
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: as well. They don't have their number one draft pick
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: that was supposed to be Kenneth Walker's replacement. He's on
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: injured reserve until the start of next month at least.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: And we don't know definitively when Jadarian Price is coming
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: back for sure yet.
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: No, we do not.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: He has the upper rib injuries, what his GM has
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: talked about.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: Well, we're hoping that this nine days in between games
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: might be fortuitous for that.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: And thank you for the woman who called in about
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: the mom who called in about the Ronald McDonald House.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: And sorry that she had to know firsthand what the
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: Ronald McDonald House is and does.
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: A.J.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: Barner, if you missed it, we talked about the top
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: of the show.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: A.J.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Barner spent his off Saturday night, off weekend, at a
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: charity gala. The annual charity gala that they have for
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: the Ronald McDonald House here in Seattle. It raised $ 1. 5 million,
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: which is pretty cool. It's the House That Love Built gala.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: That was here locally for $ 1.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: 5 million.
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: He included in the auction items were the Ronald McDonald
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: House cleats that he wore last year for My Cause,
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: My Cleats.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I've had a lot of good experiences talking to
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: people about My Cause, My Cleats as well. My best friend,
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: also a reason that I'm rooting tonight for the commanders,
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: but she got to do one.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: And she did it for the camp.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: Good grief in Long Island for, and I don't know
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: how widespread they are, but I know they have one
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: on Long Island. My niece and nephew went there after
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: I lost my sister, and she decided to do that.
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: And the My Cause, My Cleats, that actually stretches really far.
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: It stretches really far. And Ronald McDonald House, man, they're
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: not widely advertised all over the place, but everyone knows
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: about them. I would encourage anyone out there, if you're
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: going through your big give days, and maybe at Thanksgiving
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: you're looking for something, Ronald McDonald House is definitely one
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: to go to.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: The Tacoma Dodge text line, 49451, was reading something that
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: was actually really sad about the airman who died in
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: a repellent accident at the Navy UTSA game. That's awful.
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: Yeah, should we clarify a little bit about that? You know,
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: I have been at many, many, many football games. They
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: fly in balls on parachutes and stuff. There's a lot
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: of times where there's a demonstration going on, you know,
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: parachuting in the game ball. There's flyovers. There's everything. And
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: this looked to be a part of a demonstration that
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: was going on.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: Yes, it was before the Navy UTSA football game in
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: San Antonio at the Alamo Dome.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: An airman who died at 585. Text is, the airman
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: who died repelling his heart to stomach. So sad as
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: a member of the military, it highlights the daily risk
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: inside the military. Heart goes out to his unit and family. Indeed,
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: a terrible accident in San Antonio. Correcting something I said earlier,
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Jacksonville played in Philadelphia in London. That was one of
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: the back-to-back games the Jaguars played in London. Thank you
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: for the text line. Some of you correcting me more
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: classily than others.
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: Well, let's just stick with the classic ones.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: Jim from the 253, friend of the station. Darnold's problem,
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: new offensive coordinator, lack of playing time in the preseason,
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: sitting down in a regular season injury for Price, Super
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Bowl hangover, whatever that means. Go Army. Yes, sir, Jim.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: Beat Navy. You want to win $ 1, 000? Now's your chance
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: on Factor Fiction, right now live on 93.3 KJFM. We're
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: set to go. Glad you're with us. It's your shot
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: at our weekly.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Thousand bucks and the $ 10, 000 grand prize.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: It's Fact or Fiction.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Proudly presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: day feels lucky.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: Fact or Fiction is on. Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM. Yeah, college.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Going to stay there. Went 3-0 last week in college.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: Ohio State and Indiana were the under easily. 19-15 was
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: the final. What a way for Indiana to lose that game.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: A guy stepping out of bounds. Did you see that?
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Wide open on a fourth down. Touchdown pass, but he
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: did not realize where in the field he was, and
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: his first step was landing out of bounds.
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: Just barely.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: And Ohio State wins 19-15 in a game they mostly
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: controlled the whole game.
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: The fighting Ryan days.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: Yep. They won at Indiana. They'll probably meet each other
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: in the Big Ten title game, it would appear. Army
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: would land two and a half points over Florida Atlantic
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: and just crushed them. 56-24, a big win for the
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Black Knights at West Point. And then BYU beating Notre Dame.
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: They were getting ten and a half points, and they
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: won outright in Provo. Number eight beat number two. Those
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: were our three wins in college football last week. So,
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: of course, I'm going back to college. And, of course,
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: I'm going back to the Black Knights of the Hudson.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: On Brave Old Army Team. They're playing on Friday, a
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: 5.30 national TV game, our time, at Tulsa in Oklahoma.
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: I picked this game before a couple years ago when
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: Army was at Tulsa. This is a league game in
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: the American Conference. Tulsa's favored by one and a half,
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: and I don't know why. Give me Army. Give me
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: my Black Knights getting points. A point and a half.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: Army plus one and a half at Tulsa. No surprise
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: if you listen to the show more than like 10
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: minutes that I would pick this. Wait, what? Why, Greg?
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: Why?
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: Just to reiterate, we are the leading show by far.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: We're the only one above 500.
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: 18 and 12.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: And we are coming off a four-in-one week in Fact
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: or Fiction. So the bottom line is if you want
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: to win $ 1, 000, text FACT right now to 49451. If
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: you don't, text FICTION to 49451. Army plus one and
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: a half at Tulsa. My first week. The unbraveled Army
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: team song playing in the background. Every time we scored
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: a touchdown, actually, every time we scored a point in
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: a game for four years, this song played and a
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: cannon went off on the sidelines.
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: Yeah, you got a brace for that.
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: Can I tell you about push-ups? Yeah, absolutely. Army plus
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: one and a half at Tulsa. Text in now. Factor
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: Fiction 49451. Fact if you're one of a thousand dollars
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: is the bottom line. Saturday night, I was at Sammamish
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: High School. We were renting in Sammamish. The game ended
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: on the final play. It was a crazy, right at
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: the goal line call, I came running as a sideline
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: official and made a call. It was ending on a final.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: It was a great game. But the night before I
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: was at Liberty High School, for their senior night and
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: their homecoming, they played Redmond, Chris Carson's team. I saw
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: Chris Carson. I didn't get a chance to talk to him.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: He went off the field and in pregame, and then
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: they didn't come back until right before kickoff, and then
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: they got beat 70-21, so I didn't talk to Matthew.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a barn burner for sure.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: But during the game, they have a very robust junior
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: ROTC program at Liberty High School, and I was talking
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: to the instructor and the cadets, the junior students, the
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: junior ROTC students from Liberty High School, and they were
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: telling me that they do push-ups after they score. I said, well,
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: we did that at West Point, too. Well, I'm going
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: to chide the Liberty folks. They're all Navy guys. They
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: all want to go to the Navy. I talked to
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: someone who was in his junior ROTC uniform and wants
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: to go to the Naval Academy. So, of course, I
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: chided him on what a poor decision that is, as
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: opposed to West Point. But they did do their push-ups.
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: But Liberty scored 70 points. They only did push-ups. The
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: number of push-ups they did equaled the points just scored.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: So they just kept doing seven push-ups at a time. Oh, no.
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: No, no, no.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: I've seen mascots almost die.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: You've got to do 70. Yeah, you do. You've got
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: to do 63. You've got to do 50.
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: Sometimes the cheerleaders help them, too.
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:12:59Speaker 4: I've seen it.
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: But they only did the amount just scored.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: I came over and said, you've got to do 21.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: I said, you've got to do 28. That's what we did.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: We were doing push-ups as many points as we had.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: We did it on the stands. We did it on
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: the field. I do it with my daughter at the
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: army Navy games. We've gone to a couple of times.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: And they were just doing it seven at a time.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: So I had to say, that's a very Navy way
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: to do it. Instead of doing it Army style, where
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: you would just do the cumulative points each time.
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: Man, I'm going to have to get Keenan Reynolds back
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: in with you.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: Oh, Keenan Reynolds. The only Seahawk I did not like,
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: personally did not like, was Keenan Reynolds.
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: He's like the best dude.
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: He and I did not get along. He would haze me.
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: Because he's Navy. He's a Naval Academy graduate. He was
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: the first Naval Academy graduate to play for Army. You know,
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: Army has a West Point guy on their team right now.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Jimmy Charlo is on the practice squad, was on the
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: practice squad, but he made his Seahawks debut in Denver.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: He was on the kickoff team and the punt team.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: I've talked to him all the time because we just
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: trade stories about, and when I wear my Army Navy
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: sweatshirts and different units from the Army, hoodies and stuff,
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: and we talk. And he's thrilled to be here and
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: the military community from here. He was so popular in Buffalo.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: where he came from. He was with the Bills for
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: two seasons. He played in five games last year for
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: the Bills, and they loved him in Buffalo. My best
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: man at my wedding, who's a Bills season ticket holder, was,
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: loves that guy, Jimmy Charlo. He's number 46. He's on
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: the Seahawks. He's the second West Point graduate to play
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: behind John Rattigan for the Seahawks. You remember John Rattigan?
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: I sure do. So that's Army, plus one and a
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: half at Tulsa. So yeah, I had to give the
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: Navy a kids the junior navy kids some gruff that
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: they should have been doing i mean i would have
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: been damn near 500 push-ups or more because they had
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: to do 21 and 28 and 35 then 42 then
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: 49 and 56 but they just kept doing seven at
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: a time well hats off to liberty high school for
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: having a vibrant junior rotc program hats down for them
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: to not take them to point them.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: To west point okay Well, that is your recruiting segment
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: for West Point Academy.
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: 4-9-4-5-1 at the Comodage text line. The 4-2-5 makes the
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: point that Jed Fish is able to use more of
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: the playbook with Elijah Brown than he is with DeMond Williams.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: And that gets to the point of the drop back passing.
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: And DeMond Williams shorter, sometimes not being able to see
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: over the line. That's an interesting point.
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: Well, the same thing was said about Caden Pinnock as
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: opposed to Owen Eshelman.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: How tall is Eshelman?
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: 6'4? 6'3. 6'3. Yeah.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Oh, you're going to tell the story about being Nashville's parents?
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: Okay, really quick, because we do have to take a
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: quick break before Ian.
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: But I climbed all the way up there. You know,
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: Opponents Stadium.
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: Reaser Stadium in Corvallis.
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: So in the Opponents.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: Stadiums, they don't exactly put you on the sidelines.
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: And I was like, I just want to do this.
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: Screw it.
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: And I just.
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: Walked all the way up in between the first and
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: second quarter. I timed it out where I could get
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: up there. And Jack Stevens, our kicker's family, I don't.
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: Know who it was.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: It was two women in his family. I think grandmother
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: and mother were sitting next to the Eshelmans. I got
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: to meet them, Ryan and Abby. And they came all
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: the way from Norman, Oklahoma, just to see their baby start.
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: And I just, with all of.
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: The NIL stuff that we had talked about earlier and everything,
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: the family aspect of college football is what I got
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: to experience by talking to them.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: And I loved it.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: They must have been impressed you walked all the way
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: up there to see them.
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: They're like, you came all the way up here?
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, well, we're in a commercial break right now. So, yep,
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: I did. And hustled my, took us up there, got
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: my steps in and got to meet them.
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: And it was really cool.
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: And that's what I take from the sanctity of college
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: football is the family aspect.
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: So, yes. That's great. Good on you, Jessamyn.
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: 425, real quick. Are you guys going to preview the NBA? Yeah,
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: we'll do it real quick. There'll be too many games.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: There'll be load management. Stars won't play, and teams will
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: be ticked, and all the best teams will rest all
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: their guys until the playoffs when it matters. That's your
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: NBA preview for the 26-27 season. Up next, Ian Furness.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: Tell us what he's got on his show on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: Welcome back. Greg Bell, Justin McIntyre, now joined by Ian Furness,
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: the mayor of Maple Valley, who watched the dawning of
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: a new Cougs quarterback. I didn't really watch it. And now? Well,
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: we had a hockey game going on. Oh, that's right.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: I had one eye on it. So, the Kraken end
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: their road trip with two losses in Florida against the
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: two best teams. 3-1-1 road trip. Sorry. That's a big
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: deal in hockey. It is. I've misstated that a few
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: times now. That's a big deal. A point and an
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: overtime loss.
- 1:18:02Speaker 8: And not all overtime loss points are the same. If
- 1:18:05Speaker 8: that came in Detroit or Philadelphia, you'd be like, eh,
- 1:18:08Speaker 8: that's not good.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: That was in Tampa Bay. Two times it came back
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: in that game, so that was a good game. So
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: that's a very successful road trip. Really successful. Really.
- 1:18:15Speaker 8: And, I mean, they've played seven of nine games on
- 1:18:17Speaker 8: the road to start the season, and they're above.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: 500, so. And now they come home to Detroit, who
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: they just beat last Friday, and now they're playing them tomorrow.
- 1:18:25Speaker 8: Yeah, and then it gets tougher because you've got Utah
- 1:18:27Speaker 8: and Minnesota after that, so.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: And then Toronto is somewhere. Toronto next Wednesday, yeah. So
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: that's a four-game homestand?
- 1:18:34Speaker 8: Yes, and then they go one road game in Calgary,
- 1:18:38Speaker 8: and then they come back home after that.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: So a good stretch of home games. Tomorrow, remember, is
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Kraken Ticket Tuesday. Every hour, you're going to hear a
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: sounder and a chance to win two tickets to a
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: Kraken game.
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: So what stood out to you most about this sports
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: weekend with the Huskies? I mean, the Seahawks not playing. Well,
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: I think what happened, carnage in college football. Yeah.
- 1:18:58Speaker 8: First time in, was it 30 years or something, that
- 1:19:02Speaker 8: one and two have lost and five of the top
- 1:19:04Speaker 8: seven teams have lost in the country. You know, that's
- 1:19:07Speaker 8: just insane. Yeah, that's... What happened, another... clock fiasco. Big
- 1:19:11Speaker 8: 12 officials this time screwed up at BYU. Should have
- 1:19:15Speaker 8: been a second left for Notre Dame. I mean, you
- 1:19:17Speaker 8: could argue about the pass interference, too. So that took place.
- 1:19:21Speaker 8: So more controversy. Instead of enjoying an incredible upset, there's
- 1:19:25Speaker 8: talk about that. But that college Saturday was nuts. I mean,
- 1:19:29Speaker 8: I had one eye on the Cougs when we were
- 1:19:30Speaker 8: watching the hockey game. So I did watch a little bit.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: Eshelman was good.
- 1:19:32Speaker 8: Just I got, we have, we'll get to them tomorrow
- 1:19:36Speaker 8: when we have Alex and MK on, because there's a
- 1:19:38Speaker 8: lot of questions about the coaching staff for sure. And
- 1:19:41Speaker 8: I don't want to, I don't want to go down
- 1:19:42Speaker 8: the road of having another coach, another new coach, but
- 1:19:44Speaker 8: my God, like Kirby, have a little fire.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: Have, do, do something.
- 1:19:48Speaker 8: And then your evaluation, the quarterback position is just pathetic, obviously.
- 1:19:52Speaker 8: Because there's no doubt this guy's better than the other dude.
- 1:19:54Speaker 8: Like there's just no doubt.
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: No.
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: Not even close. Why didn't you start him before? A
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: hundred percent. NIL money coming to play there?
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Yeah, probably.
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: Probably the same thing that's going to happen at Washington.
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: Right, with Elijah Brown. I mean, it's... The lead to
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: Greg Woods' story in the spokesman review from the game
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: story in Corvallis was the emotions and the flatline demeanor
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: of Kirby Moore. That was interesting that the beat writer
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: who's there every day noticed what you're just talking about.
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: I just, it's a lot of questions there.
- 1:20:23Speaker 8: The NFL yesterday was awesome with, you know, the fact
- 1:20:26Speaker 8: that the Rams lost again, thank God.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: Two and four! I know, I know. And they lose
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: to Arizona at home. Like, Really? Yeah, that's bad. And
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: only scored 16 points. And Arizona didn't score a touchdown.
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: Six field goals beat you. The 49ers, David Softy-Mohan and
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: I were talking about this, that would be a massive
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: choke job if they don't win the West now with
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: the 49ers three games up on the Seahawks with a
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: win in hand and four games if they win tonight,
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: which they're going to beat the Commanders. Yes, yes. So
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: they're going to be four games up on the Rams
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: with a win in hand. I know. Yeah. Are the
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: Seahawks playing for the wild card now? I said that
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: on Friday. In mid-October?
- 1:21:01Speaker 8: I said that Friday. That was my Friday show. Yes.
- 1:21:06Speaker 8: They're not playing for the division.
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: I don't think so either.
- 1:21:09Speaker 8: I mean, I chuckle when people still throw out the
- 1:21:12Speaker 8: it's early stuff. You just have to do the math.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21:15Speaker 8: When are the 49ers going to lose until they see
- 1:21:17Speaker 8: Seattle or the Rams again? They're not, is the answer.
- 1:21:21Speaker 8: And they're not going to kick one like the Rams did.
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: Probably not. The Rams injuries come into play.
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:21:26Speaker 8: I mean, the Rams don't have the 49ers don't have
- 1:21:27Speaker 8: the special teams issues at the 49 that the Rams do.
- 1:21:30Speaker 8: And I mean, I think, yeah, I, that's still a,
- 1:21:35Speaker 8: still a stunning loss though by the Rams.
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: It's just a stunning loss. I know that miles Garrett's
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: not playing. I get that.
- 1:21:42Speaker 8: But man, how do you lose that particular game? Cause
- 1:21:46Speaker 8: they're having the same conversation. I mean, even more so
- 1:21:48Speaker 8: than Seattle with four losses.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: Oh yeah. They're there.
- 1:21:51Speaker 8: They're it's, You are 100% right now, if you're Seattle
- 1:21:54Speaker 8: and the Rams, playing for a wild card spot.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: Who are the 49ers going to lose to? They play
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: Washington tonight. They go at Atlanta next week. Then they
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: have their bye. Then they go Raiders, Cowboys, Minnesota. The
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: international game, if I'm not mistaken. Oh, Mexico City. They're
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: playing Minnesota and Mexico City. And then the Seahawks on
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: Thanksgiving weekend down in Santa Clara. Washington, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Dallas, Minnesota.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: Who are they going to lose to? They're not.
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: So.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: The only times the Seahawks have ever made the Super
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: Bowl is after they've won the division at home playoff games.
- 1:22:28Speaker 8: We could certainly talk about the fact that for Seattle,
- 1:22:30Speaker 8: the bigger issue right now is just the fact that
- 1:22:34Speaker 8: they can't run or score, and the quarterback's having issues.
- 1:22:39Speaker 8: The only thing that's good is just look at the NFC. Carolina, Giants, Packers, Bears,
- 1:22:46Speaker 8: Lions all have two losses. Minnesota, San Francisco undefeated. They're
- 1:22:50Speaker 8: probably both going to win their respective divisions. Green Bay
- 1:22:53Speaker 8: is starting to come on a little bit. That's a
- 1:22:54Speaker 8: little bit worrisome. So you start wondering, who are the
- 1:22:55Speaker 8: three wildcard teams? Well, probably not coming out of the
- 1:22:59Speaker 8: NFC East.
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: No.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: And definitely not coming out of the NFC South. Right.
- 1:23:04Speaker 8: So you're battling with the Rams and Green Bay, right?
- 1:23:10Speaker 8: Or Green Bay and Chicago, if the Vikings keep going.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: I can't see the Vikings. They're barely scoring.
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: 109 points for them. What do you got today?
- 1:23:19Speaker 8: We'll check in Hugh Millen, Hardcore Football, 1 o'clock. We'll
- 1:23:22Speaker 8: kind of go broader view today with the Seahawks, quarterbacks,
- 1:23:24Speaker 8: all that fun stuff.
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Like future quarterbacks? No, no, no, no, no. What are
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: they going to do next year?
- 1:23:30Speaker 8: Well, that's a future us problem. We'll talk about that
- 1:23:32Speaker 8: weeks down the road.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Hopefully not.
- 1:23:34Speaker 8: We'll get to that with Hugh. We've got Mike Sando
- 1:23:36Speaker 8: at 2 p.m. today, and then we'll just kind of
- 1:23:38Speaker 8: revisit the weekend that was in the first hour. Get
- 1:23:40Speaker 8: some thoughts from folks, 49451, talkbacks and all that.
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: And he's got Factor Fiction at 235. Anne Furness will
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: be on from 12 until 3. Dave Softy, Mahler, and
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: Dick Fane will take you from the Emerald Creek Casino,
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: take you right up to Monday Night Football here on
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: 93.3 KJRFM. We have the Commanders at the 49ers at 515.
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: Jessamyn McIntyre, Greg Bell will do it again tomorrow at
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: 10 to noon on 93.3 KJRFM.
