- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy. Into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning So
- 0:29today we're talking about what is the biggest killer of making
- 0:35yourself move. Do things, You know, it was
- 0:39brought up to me that I, I constantly say to my child over
- 0:45the weekend, one of my children that I love that he's never
- 0:50bored. I love that he's never bored.
- 0:52He always finds something to engage with him himself with,
- 0:56whether it's tearing. This weekend it was tearing
- 0:59apart a dirt bike that he has. And he decided, and he has never
- 1:04done this before, he decided that he was going to rebuild the
- 1:06engine because it was not working.
- 1:08He said it wasn't working properly, so he was going to
- 1:10rebuild it. And I said, that's interesting,
- 1:13you've not done this before. And he's like, well, I have to,
- 1:15I have to learn. So I'm going to go on YouTube,
- 1:16I'm going to learn all about it and I'm going to get the parts
- 1:19and I'm going to rebuild it myself.
- 1:20And he took the whole bike apart and now he's painting it and
- 1:23he's doing it from Ground Zero all by himself.
- 1:26And I just love that he's never bored.
- 1:29He always finds something to do. He always finds something to do
- 1:33which is rich and let me. Be very.
- 1:35Clear. I really do think that I am
- 1:38never ever bored. That is not something that I
- 1:41experienced. I learned very early on in my
- 1:44life as an only child that you do not need to be bored.
- 1:47There's always something to read, create, due process,
- 1:51whatever. Boredom is not the problem.
- 1:54And, and I think for most people, when they think, oh,
- 1:57things are boring, it's not about being bored.
- 2:01My experience has been it's about being apathetic.
- 2:04It's for most of my clients, it's it that's the part that
- 2:08kills them when they just don't care.
- 2:10When you're in a state of apathy, that's the real killer
- 2:13of dreams. That's the real killer of moving
- 2:15forward, not boredom. And so when you're apathetic
- 2:18about something, it's that's what steals the joy from it all.
- 2:23So truly, when you feel like you just can't get yourself moving,
- 2:28when you can't go, you have to ask yourself, is it because I'm
- 2:31bored with this job? Or is it just you become
- 2:34apathetic with it, you just don't care anymore?
- 2:37Not caring really makes all the difference in the world.
- 2:41Whether it's something you enjoy, something you don't enjoy
- 2:45it it it it just seems to swipe out everything, whether it's has
- 2:49to do with a thing, a project, a person, like just think about
- 2:52it. When you don't care about a
- 2:53person anymore, you don't care and you're just like, all right,
- 2:56leave, go. I don't care.
- 2:57And once you don't care, it changes everything.
- 3:00And that really comes in with apathy.
- 3:02It's just like, whatever happens, happens.
- 3:04I'm just not even going to put my attention to it.
- 3:07So this is how you reframe yourself.
- 3:11If you were in this state, if you happen to be in that state,
- 3:15you have to ask yourself, well, what would I do if I did care?
- 3:18If I, if I was not in an apathetic state, how would I
- 3:21act? What would I do?
- 3:23What would be my thought process?
- 3:26That's a great way to start to jump into it and reframe it so
- 3:30that you can pull yourself out of it by asking a different
- 3:33question. Well, if I wasn't bored, and
- 3:36sometimes you have to go back to that word because if that's the
- 3:39word you've been using, that's the word you've associated to,
- 3:42you can go back and say, well, if I wasn't bored, what would I
- 3:44be doing? Well, I don't know.
- 3:46We'll see. That's part of the problem.
- 3:47You don't know. And if you didn't know, what
- 3:50would it be? What?
- 3:51What takes away your boredom? What pulls you out of it?
- 3:55So see, sometimes these words become conflated.
- 3:58Things become muddled. You can't see.
- 4:00It's like as clear as mud, as my dad used to say to me.
- 4:03And you can't see through it. But when you ask the right
- 4:06questions, you start to get moments of clarity.
- 4:09The soil starts to settle and you can see through something.
- 4:13So pull yourself to the point where you can at least identify
- 4:17exactly what is going on. And then you can kind of merge
- 4:22those thoughts together and say, OK, am I actually bored or am I
- 4:26just apathetic? Do I just not care anymore?
- 4:29Get clear on that fact and then go into, all right, well, what
- 4:33would move me forward? What would make me break this
- 4:36state? Because that's really what it
- 4:37comes down to. You have to break the state to
- 4:39get yourself out of it. Once you break that state, and
- 4:43it doesn't have to be a lot, that's what people always think.
- 4:46It's going to have to be some big thing.
- 4:48I've got to take massive action. No, you can break it with small
- 4:51trickles, little tiny things, remember, as a constant drip of
- 4:56water onto a stone will eventually wear the stone down.
- 5:00It's just the way it works. So even if it's a little tiny
- 5:03bit it, it does make a difference.
- 5:06So just start pulling apart at it, asking the right questions.
- 5:09But but the point of all of this is staying in that state,
- 5:13whether you identify it as boredom or being apathetic.
- 5:17And again, I, I, my personal belief is that boredom is an
- 5:20indicator, but underneath it's apathy.
- 5:25But you know, everyone has their different strategies with this
- 5:28stuff, but that's mine. In any event, once you get past
- 5:32identifying that, there's always a way out of it.
- 5:35All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:37will see you tomorrow. Bye.
