- 1:22Speaker 2: Ground with Rick Quevedo, Cody Quevedo, friends of mine, partners
- 1:26Speaker 2: here in Farmington with Desert View Family Services and Counseling.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Good to see you guys. Hey, good morning, brother. Good
- 1:33Speaker 2: to see you.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Good.
- 1:34Speaker 2: I called your friends. Don't let me down on this
- 1:36Speaker 2: episode here. That's awesome. So yeah, we talk a lot
- 1:42Speaker 2: about Bible on our show and Cody, this idea of
- 1:48Speaker 2: spiritual warfare was on your heart this morning as a
- 1:51Speaker 2: topic kind of set us up for the show.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Can you? Yeah, absolutely. So really the idea for the
- 1:57Speaker 4: show comes from Ephesians six verses 13 and 14, where
- 2:03Speaker 4: the apostle Paul's writing to the church, you know, and
- 2:06Speaker 4: he says, Therefore, take up the whole armor of God
- 2:08Speaker 4: that you may be able to withstand in the evil day,
- 2:11Speaker 4: having done all to stand firm. And then he starts
- 2:15Speaker 4: verse 14 off with, stand therefore. So in those two sentences,
- 2:20Speaker 4: we see this idea of standing mentioned three different times.
- 2:26Speaker 4: And I think sometimes what we see in life and
- 2:32Speaker 4: Christianity is almost a sense of passivity. where, you know,
- 2:37Speaker 4: we're maybe dealing with something, we're struggling with something and,
- 2:41Speaker 4: you know, we're, we're pleading to the Lord. We're, we're doing,
- 2:45Speaker 4: we're trying to surrender this, but really there's times where
- 2:48Speaker 4: the Lord tells us to stand. You know, one of
- 2:51Speaker 4: the ideas, one of the things that we've talked about
- 2:52Speaker 4: in the past was like the prophet Elijah, for example,
- 2:57Speaker 4: battled depression. And at one point he said, Lord, take
- 3:01Speaker 4: my life. And the Lord said, Hey, I'm going to
- 3:04Speaker 4: send some Ravens to give you some food. I'm going
- 3:07Speaker 4: to strengthen you with some angel food. And then you're
- 3:09Speaker 4: going to get up and you're going to walk for
- 3:11Speaker 4: 40 days and you're going to come meet me. There's
- 3:14Speaker 4: this idea that yes, we are supposed to surrender. We
- 3:19Speaker 4: are supposed to submit, but the Lord also calls us
- 3:21Speaker 4: to stand in order to accomplish what he's called us to.
- 3:25Speaker 4: So we have to be able to differentiate this idea
- 3:28Speaker 4: of just passivity with you know, true submission and submission
- 3:33Speaker 4: to me is surrendering and standing firm and knowing when
- 3:36Speaker 4: those moments come to, to do both or, or either one.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Rick, you want to piggyback on that?
- 3:43Speaker 5: Yeah, this is such an appropriate topics speaking both spiritually
- 3:47Speaker 5: and mentally, you know, when we struggle with our mental health,
- 3:50Speaker 5: we often don't have those boundaries or those guides before
- 3:54Speaker 5: us that, that, you know, we, we need to trust ourselves.
- 3:57Speaker 6: And, uh, I think the first thing to do is,
- 3:59Speaker 6: is identify what is the armor of God.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Right.
- 4:02Speaker 5: And, uh, and then how do we use it daily? Um,
- 4:05Speaker 5: so many of us, you know, it's an ongoing thing,
- 4:08Speaker 5: cost of practice every day, right.
- 4:10Speaker 6: Self-care.
- 4:10Speaker 5: And that includes that armor, making sure that we have
- 4:13Speaker 5: it on. And, uh, I thought this was a great topic, Cody.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. Um, and because it's a mental health issue,
- 4:21Speaker 2: spiritual battle, um, you know, just to bring up a
- 4:25Speaker 2: current event, like last week, there was a mom who
- 4:27Speaker 2: strangled three of her kids and it wasn't a question
- 4:30Speaker 2: on whether she did it or not. It was the
- 4:33Speaker 2: jury's decision to decide if she was criminally insane, not
- 4:36Speaker 2: responsible for actions. And that told me this morning that
- 4:40Speaker 2: there's actually women outside protesting to let her go, free her.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Like she still killed her children. You know, what the
- 4:48Speaker 2: mental state was, the consequence for murdering children, Um, I
- 4:52Speaker 2: just don't ever, I've always never, never, I didn't say never,
- 4:56Speaker 2: ever believe in that whole, you know, shoot somebody up,
- 4:59Speaker 2: tell me I'm insane. The devil made me do it.
- 5:02Speaker 2: And you're off the hook and you, instead of, you know, jail,
- 5:05Speaker 2: it's a mental institution or some kind of Hyatt Regency
- 5:10Speaker 2: hotel type situation where they just give you medication for
- 5:12Speaker 2: the rest of your life. Thoughts on any of that?
- 5:14Speaker 2: Cause again, this is a big deal. Um, you know,
- 5:17Speaker 2: we're talking about murder, especially children. mental health, and again,
- 5:21Speaker 2: spiritual warfare. The devil made me do it. He is
- 5:24Speaker 2: an influencer. He's going to speak. He's going to try
- 5:27Speaker 2: to talk you into doing that. The devil came to steal, kill,
- 5:30Speaker 2: and destroy. So I believe mental health matters, um, standing
- 5:36Speaker 2: your ground against the wiles of the devil, which is
- 5:38Speaker 2: this chapter Cody back to you.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:42Speaker 4: And really, I think this is a topic that is
- 5:45Speaker 4: forever ongoing. We can do multiple episodes on this, right? Like, um,
- 5:51Speaker 4: But even just thinking about, about some of the different
- 5:54Speaker 4: pieces of armor, you know, when it talks about the
- 5:57Speaker 4: belt of truth, you know, girding up your loins and
- 5:59Speaker 4: putting on the belt of truth, when we think of
- 6:02Speaker 4: that in a, in like a historical context, the belt
- 6:05Speaker 4: was used to hold the chest plate in place. It
- 6:08Speaker 4: was used to hold the sword. It was often, sometimes
- 6:11Speaker 4: they would put like tassels and things on it as a,
- 6:13Speaker 4: a symbol of who they were, where they've been, what
- 6:15Speaker 4: they've done, kind of like, uh, modern day soldiers wear
- 6:19Speaker 4: like the ribbons of their chest. Right. So when we
- 6:22Speaker 4: think about that, like girding up means to surround yourself with,
- 6:26Speaker 4: so we have to be surrounded in that truth. And
- 6:28Speaker 4: what does, you know, what is the truth of the Bible?
- 6:30Speaker 4: There's a, there's a lot in there, but when it
- 6:32Speaker 4: comes to mental health and when it comes to this
- 6:34Speaker 4: idea of standing firm, right, we can talk about boundaries.
- 6:37Speaker 4: We can talk about identity. We can talk about trust.
- 6:40Speaker 4: There's a, there's a lot of different things that we
- 6:42Speaker 4: could look at. And Rick, you kind of said something
- 6:46Speaker 4: about boundaries. it made me think that, you know, even,
- 6:49Speaker 4: even the Lord Jesus had boundaries in a sense, right?
- 6:53Speaker 4: He only took three up to the Mount with him
- 6:55Speaker 4: in Matthew 17 here in the mountain of the mountain transfiguration, right?
- 6:59Speaker 4: When it came to the garden, he only took three
- 7:01Speaker 4: with him into the deeper parts of the garden, right?
- 7:04Speaker 4: He had the 12 disciples, but even within the 12 disciples,
- 7:07Speaker 4: there were the three that he, that he typically took
- 7:11Speaker 4: further with him that understood the I would probably say
- 7:15Speaker 4: maybe a little bit more than the other disciples or
- 7:17Speaker 4: had a certain level of access that the other disciples didn't.
- 7:21Speaker 4: So I think that even in our lives, right, boundaries
- 7:25Speaker 4: are healthy and especially in the work of ministry. It's
- 7:29Speaker 4: so easy to get wrapped up in the people you're
- 7:32Speaker 4: caring for, the people that you're counseling, you know, just
- 7:35Speaker 4: mental health in general, that without those boundaries, we can
- 7:38Speaker 4: start to let that affect us through vicarious trauma. We
- 7:41Speaker 4: can let it take our time. We can often let
- 7:43Speaker 4: it distract us. from other things that are also important.
- 7:48Speaker 4: So in a sense of like boundaries, I think it's important.
- 7:53Speaker 4: And with the spiritual warfare side of this, I heard
- 7:56Speaker 4: a pastor once say that if the devil can't distract
- 8:00Speaker 4: you or stop you, he'll change his strategy and he'll
- 8:04Speaker 4: get behind you and push you. The devil loves the Christian. right?
- 8:09Speaker 4: He loves us constantly feeling like we have to always
- 8:11Speaker 4: be in the fight. We're not resting. We're not setting
- 8:13Speaker 4: up boundaries. We're not taking care of ourselves to where
- 8:16Speaker 4: you get to the point to where you burn out
- 8:18Speaker 4: or you make them, you make a moral compromise that
- 8:21Speaker 4: then affects not only you, but everybody that you've been
- 8:24Speaker 4: with to, to care for.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Rick. Yeah.
- 8:29Speaker 5: I'm going to take this to the side of what
- 8:30Speaker 5: Cody's saying. Uh, as you were talking about that mom,
- 8:33Speaker 5: you know, murdering her children and stuff. Um, Another word
- 8:36Speaker 5: for boundaries maybe is, you know, stability. So many people
- 8:40Speaker 5: don't have that stability in their lives. And so when
- 8:43Speaker 5: we hear these terrible things happen in the news or whatever,
- 8:46Speaker 5: in the community, these folks are already long gone into that,
- 8:50Speaker 5: you know, that downward spiral. It's not like it just
- 8:52Speaker 5: kind of one day, hey, I'm going to kill my children.
- 8:55Speaker 5: You know, this lack of stability, lack of armor, all
- 8:59Speaker 5: those things have just been brewing and brewing and ongoing.
- 9:02Speaker 5: And that ties into mental health and and people avoiding
- 9:06Speaker 5: it and not taking care of themselves.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And again, I can say maybe I've heard 60 seconds,
- 9:13Speaker 2: 90 seconds worth, you know, Fox news, a couple, you know,
- 9:18Speaker 2: a couple of little reports here and there. And then
- 9:20Speaker 2: obviously everybody's posting about it. So I don't know all
- 9:22Speaker 2: the details surrounding it, but to me, it's just a
- 9:24Speaker 2: no brainer. And then there was, there's other moms again,
- 9:28Speaker 2: because it's spiritual warfare. I remember a few years back,
- 9:32Speaker 2: maybe it always seems like a few years and you
- 9:34Speaker 2: look it up. It's like 10 years already. But a
- 9:36Speaker 2: mom who had four children in her van and they
- 9:39Speaker 2: were all like named out of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark,
- 9:41Speaker 2: Luke and John. This is a Christian family. And she
- 9:44Speaker 2: wound up driving the van into the lake and drowning
- 9:47Speaker 2: them all, you know, or one in the bathtub even.
- 9:50Speaker 2: I mean, so this isn't new, but I think the
- 9:53Speaker 2: wiles of the devil, again, as we're talking about mental
- 9:56Speaker 2: health and again, the news will never report it like.
- 10:00Speaker 2: you know Satan wins again or you know we've seen
- 10:04Speaker 2: the movie in the 70s with Exorcist and you know
- 10:07Speaker 2: was it you know Linda Blair yeah Linda Blair I
- 10:12Speaker 2: was singing Blair but I couldn't think of the first
- 10:14Speaker 2: name and you know the enemy doesn't present himself like
- 10:17Speaker 2: that so I'm trying to remember the verse, or maybe
- 10:20Speaker 2: in 1 Corinthians 10, where Satan, angel of light. I'm
- 10:25Speaker 2: just going to type in angel of light, and it'll
- 10:27Speaker 2: come up. Do you know the verse off the end
- 10:29Speaker 2: real quick, Cody?
- 10:31Speaker 4: I think it's 2 Corinthians 13.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Here it is, 2 Corinthians 11, 14. All right, we
- 10:43Speaker 2: really said, that's right. So, no wonder, for Satan himself, sorry.
- 10:49Speaker 2: transforms himself into an angel of light. And that's what
- 10:53Speaker 2: I love about Bible Gateway, by the way. You can
- 10:55Speaker 2: just type in some keywords in a verse. You remember
- 10:57Speaker 2: where it is. Then it's always good to hit in
- 11:00Speaker 2: context because if you take the text out of context,
- 11:05Speaker 2: you're left with con. So 11 through 15, as a pastor,
- 11:10Speaker 2: I always recommend read a couple of verses before and
- 11:12Speaker 2: after for such are false apostles, deceitful workers. transforming themselves
- 11:17Speaker 2: into apostles of Christ and no wonder for Satan himself
- 11:20Speaker 2: transforms himself into an angel of light therefore it is
- 11:23Speaker 2: no great thing if his ministers Satan also transform themselves
- 11:29Speaker 2: into ministers of righteousness whose end will be according to
- 11:32Speaker 2: their works in other words so little even demon little
- 11:35Speaker 2: buddies are going around doing good things looking oh they're
- 11:39Speaker 2: doing a good thing must be a good spirit but
- 11:41Speaker 2: it's Satan you know and then they mix truth with
- 11:45Speaker 2: lies to deceive but they don't come across as Linda
- 11:47Speaker 2: Blair and exorcist comes across the angel of light, something
- 11:51Speaker 2: good to even deceive a Christian if possible. So this
- 11:55Speaker 2: mental health issue, I think more than not is a
- 11:58Speaker 2: spiritual issue. There are some physical elements to it. If
- 12:01Speaker 2: you guys want to, again, touch on that, we know
- 12:03Speaker 2: there's some science behind some of this too, but I
- 12:06Speaker 2: always say the root of it would be spiritual.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:12Speaker 4: And, you know, even looking at that, that passage there,
- 12:14Speaker 4: you know, therefore, like it talks about his ministers. I
- 12:18Speaker 4: would say that there are even people, right? Just like
- 12:20Speaker 4: there's ministers of God and in the flesh and human,
- 12:24Speaker 4: but also ministering.
- 12:26Speaker 7: Right.
- 12:26Speaker 4: And that's kind of where the boundaries and standing firm
- 12:30Speaker 4: really comes from is that it's, it's spiritual, it's practical
- 12:37Speaker 4: because we have people whispering in our ears, you know,
- 12:39Speaker 4: different things. There's a multitude of things out there. And
- 12:43Speaker 4: first John talks about how, There's already been many antichrists
- 12:46Speaker 4: who have already come.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Here's 1 John 5, 18 through 20, which I find
- 12:54Speaker 2: foundational when it comes to this. We know that whoever
- 12:57Speaker 2: is born of God does not sin, but he who
- 13:00Speaker 2: has been born of God keeps himself. I think he's
- 13:02Speaker 2: alluding to obedience. If you're in the will of God
- 13:04Speaker 2: and obedience, keeping yourself, the wicked one does not touch him.
- 13:09Speaker 2: So you can't be possessed anymore. or you know but
- 13:12Speaker 2: 19 and we know that we are of god and
- 13:14Speaker 2: the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked
- 13:17Speaker 2: one but that's to your point it's not just demons
- 13:20Speaker 2: there's people that are being led astray being pawns of
- 13:24Speaker 2: satan and they don't even know it right yeah yeah you.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Know i was thinking too about how there's often confusion
- 13:31Speaker 5: about you know the mental part of this and spirituality
- 13:34Speaker 5: part we talk about that all the time how those
- 13:37Speaker 5: you know are tied together and um You know, we
- 13:40Speaker 5: think about Jesus and how authentic he was in his emotions,
- 13:45Speaker 5: you know, and when he was weeping.
- 13:47Speaker 6: Lazarus, you know, he wasn't afraid to show his grief.
- 13:51Speaker 5: And I've been telling people lately, and this is just
- 13:54Speaker 5: kind of my thing I've been saying is, you know,
- 13:57Speaker 5: go through it, fill it, you know, just sit in
- 13:59Speaker 5: it because that's exactly what we have to do to
- 14:02Speaker 5: learn to work some of this stuff out. And of course,
- 14:06Speaker 5: the best thing about Jesus was compassion over kind of uh, condemnation. So,
- 14:11Speaker 5: you know, uh, I think we always try to look
- 14:13Speaker 5: at our clients here too, is how can we help you?
- 14:16Speaker 2: How can we support you?
- 14:17Speaker 5: Not so much judgment or, you know, why are you
- 14:19Speaker 5: like this? Why are you coming to us like this?
- 14:22Speaker 2: That's good. So going into the show, I'm rabbit trail kid.
- 14:26Speaker 2: And one verse meets to another verse leads to another.
- 14:28Speaker 2: So sorry, Cody, but we've got a couple of bullet
- 14:30Speaker 2: points we want to cover. We've got 15 minutes left.
- 14:33Speaker 2: It provides stability during difficult times too. It strengthens identity
- 14:37Speaker 2: and self-worth three. It encourages perseverance. Four, it supports healthy boundaries. Five,
- 14:43Speaker 2: it promotes peace through trust. Last verse I wanted to show.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Today's verse of the day, actually, on Bible Gateway was
- 14:52Speaker 2: Isaiah 26.3. And we probably talked about this on previous shows.
- 14:57Speaker 2: I will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is
- 15:01Speaker 2: stayed on you because he trusts in you. And that's
- 15:05Speaker 2: just done in a back trail. I know I did
- 15:07Speaker 2: it earlier. And that's just key as well. Focusing on Jesus,
- 15:12Speaker 2: focusing on God gives us perfect peace, stability, all that.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I blew past it. There it is. Isaiah 26, 3.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Back to you, Cody.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:26Speaker 7: And, you know, really this, when we look at this
- 15:28Speaker 7: passage and even some of these topics and we think about,
- 15:32Speaker 7: you know, the implications of trust and, this is where
- 15:35Speaker 7: it's super important for us to have that relationship with
- 15:38Speaker 7: God ourselves, because the reality is, is that if you
- 15:42Speaker 7: don't really trust somebody, you're not going to rely on them.
- 15:44Speaker 4: There's not going to be that dependence. Right. And often
- 15:47Speaker 4: when we look at trust and belief, a lot of
- 15:50Speaker 4: it's the same in, in terms of a biblical context, right?
- 15:55Speaker 4: The Israelites pass through the red sea. God brings down
- 15:59Speaker 4: fire from heaven and they see all these miraculous and
- 16:02Speaker 4: just wonderful things and, And then in the wilderness, they
- 16:07Speaker 4: get in trouble for their unbelief. It's not that they
- 16:10Speaker 4: didn't believe in God. It's not that they didn't believe
- 16:12Speaker 4: in who he said he was. It's that they didn't
- 16:13Speaker 4: trust him. And they said, you know what, this wilderness thing,
- 16:18Speaker 4: it's not for me. I'd rather go be a slave.
- 16:21Speaker 4: They were looking at the, they were getting so wrapped
- 16:24Speaker 4: up in their present situation, how bad it was that
- 16:28Speaker 4: they couldn't even see what was on the horizon. They couldn't,
- 16:32Speaker 4: like they didn't trust in God to get them through that.
- 16:34Speaker 4: And I think when we really build that trust and
- 16:37Speaker 4: that understanding, and if we're at a point in our
- 16:39Speaker 4: lives where we're struggling to do that with ourselves, that's
- 16:43Speaker 4: where the community comes in, the body comes in, the
- 16:48Speaker 4: other believers come in. When we're no longer able to
- 16:51Speaker 4: hold up our shield of faith, then they hold theirs
- 16:54Speaker 4: up over us.
- 16:55Speaker 2: So stand your ground. To your point, you talked about
- 16:58Speaker 2: them in Egypt. They were looking back, wanted to go back.
- 17:01Speaker 2: So standing your ground means you're not going back. That's
- 17:06Speaker 2: in every rear mirror, right?
- 17:07Speaker 6: That's right.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Trust in God at least to stand if you can't
- 17:10Speaker 2: move forward, right, Rick?
- 17:12Speaker 6: That's right.
- 17:12Speaker 4: That's right.
- 17:13Speaker 5: And that stand, again, I mentioned it earlier about, you know,
- 17:16Speaker 5: just the importance of working at it every day, having
- 17:19Speaker 5: that relationship with Jesus, God, praying, all the things, being
- 17:22Speaker 5: plugged in.
- 17:24Speaker 6: How can you trust all that if you're not even,
- 17:26Speaker 6: you know, putting yourself in that too?
- 17:28Speaker 5: To trust it, I guess is the right way to
- 17:31Speaker 5: say it. Because people with mental health often don't trust themselves.
- 17:36Speaker 5: They'll trust the things that they're thinking and feeling. But
- 17:39Speaker 5: to have God and have his peace with you through
- 17:44Speaker 5: this makes all the difference. I say it all the time.
- 17:46Speaker 5: I don't know how people do it without God.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Yeah, for real. And I know we're on podcast. So
- 17:51Speaker 2: those that aren't seeing the info, Rick Quevedo, Coda Quevedo,
- 17:55Speaker 2: Desert View Family Services and Counseling, 505-326-7878, 505-326-7878. Um, I
- 18:05Speaker 2: appreciate your ministry and it is a ministry and that's
- 18:07Speaker 2: why we do these shows. Cause you know, um, there's
- 18:10Speaker 2: a lot of stigma about mental health and getting help.
- 18:14Speaker 2: And by the time we hear about it, I think
- 18:16Speaker 2: you met it, made a comment earlier, Rick, um, by
- 18:18Speaker 2: the time she did it too far gone. I mean,
- 18:21Speaker 2: so yeah. Um, and, I just love the word of
- 18:26Speaker 2: God because it really does have an answer for everything,
- 18:29Speaker 2: you know? And, you know, I would even say in
- 18:33Speaker 2: the same book in Corinthians, it talks about being spiritually discerned.
- 18:37Speaker 2: The carnal person is not born again. This is foolishness
- 18:40Speaker 2: to them. So again, that's why we always start with
- 18:43Speaker 2: the basics. Jesus, son of God died for our sins,
- 18:46Speaker 2: asked him to come in, receive the Holy spirit. Some
- 18:49Speaker 2: of these things need to be spiritually discerned. If not,
- 18:52Speaker 2: where that part of 1 John 5, 19, where the
- 18:54Speaker 2: whole world is under the sway of the wicked one.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So either Jesus, Holy Spirit is leading your life, or
- 19:01Speaker 2: you could be prone to selfish desires or even under
- 19:05Speaker 2: the influence of demonic. And again, that devil's greatest victory
- 19:10Speaker 2: is to make you think he's not even real. It's Hollywood,
- 19:14Speaker 2: it's horror movies, and it's fiction. That's right. And rather
- 19:18Speaker 2: you think that he's not even real.
- 19:20Speaker 8: Cody?
- 19:22Speaker 4: Just to continue on your point, you know, I think
- 19:25Speaker 4: oftentimes even believers have to remind ourselves of the gospel
- 19:29Speaker 4: because we're not perfect. We struggle with things. We deal
- 19:31Speaker 4: with things, right? Just because we have titles and accolades
- 19:34Speaker 4: and positions doesn't make us any more holy than anybody else,
- 19:37Speaker 4: any more righteous than anybody else, right? We still need
- 19:41Speaker 4: the grace and the mercy of God just like anybody else.
- 19:46Speaker 4: I think sometimes it's easy for us to lose sight
- 19:50Speaker 4: of the basics. Just as you were saying, Pastor Chuck,
- 19:53Speaker 4: we have to often remind ourselves of the gospel. That
- 19:57Speaker 4: helps us with that trust. It helps us with that relationship.
- 20:00Speaker 4: It helps us with that dependency. It's literally the foundation
- 20:05Speaker 4: for everything. That's the meta-narrative of the Bible. It's the
- 20:07Speaker 4: good news of Jesus Christ from Genesis 1 to the
- 20:10Speaker 4: end of Revelations.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I was.
- 20:15Speaker 6: Thinking too that, you know, behind the stand.
- 20:20Speaker 5: You know, we've been using words like, you know, stability
- 20:22Speaker 5: and strength and self-worth and perseverance and boundaries and trust
- 20:27Speaker 5: and all these things that you don't get.
- 20:29Speaker 6: When you don't take a stand, you know. And so
- 20:32Speaker 6: to have all this.
- 20:33Speaker 5: With the Lord, especially those who are really struggling right now,
- 20:37Speaker 5: can really turn things around.
- 20:39Speaker 6: Absolutely turn things around.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:42Speaker 2: And all this should be hope. This is the message
- 20:45Speaker 2: of hope. Again, everybody's in a different place, mentally, physically, spiritually.
- 20:51Speaker 2: We all should have some goals to get better, to
- 20:53Speaker 2: get stronger. Not meant to do it alone. Community. We
- 20:58Speaker 2: talk about church and the devil and other messages. You
- 21:01Speaker 2: don't have to go to church. You're right. You don't
- 21:03Speaker 2: have to, you actually get to, they'll actually get, Be
- 21:06Speaker 2: happy to see you, to love on you. You'll get
- 21:08Speaker 2: to meet some people, be around like-minded people to encourage
- 21:11Speaker 2: one another, pray for one another. I've never heard anybody
- 21:14Speaker 2: leave church and say, man, I feel worse than when
- 21:16Speaker 2: I walked in. Most everybody's like, I feel so much
- 21:19Speaker 2: better just being in the presence of God, seeking God,
- 21:21Speaker 2: godly counsel. We need each other. We say this phrase
- 21:26Speaker 2: a lot in Celebrate Recovery or AA groups, thinking, thinking.
- 21:30Speaker 2: The relapse, whatever the stronghold is or whatever the weakness is,
- 21:35Speaker 2: It all starts with thinking about it. Should I? Shouldn't I?
- 21:39Speaker 2: And if you don't call someone and start praying it up,
- 21:42Speaker 2: you're going to start leaning towards doing what you know
- 21:45Speaker 2: you shouldn't be doing. Back to you, Cody.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Yeah. And I think the other side of that of
- 21:51Speaker 4: standing firm is, you know, those of us who are
- 21:54Speaker 4: maybe not going through an intense struggle and interceding for
- 21:59Speaker 4: one another. At the end of Ephesians 6, Paul says
- 22:02Speaker 4: to make intercessions. for the saints, right? To pray for
- 22:05Speaker 4: the saints. So we should be, we should be standing
- 22:08Speaker 4: firm and praying for one another, interceding for one another.
- 22:12Speaker 4: And when you think about the implications of first Peter five, eight,
- 22:15Speaker 4: where Peter says that, you know, be watchful, be sober minded. The,
- 22:20Speaker 4: your enemy, the devil prowls around like a roaring lion
- 22:23Speaker 4: looking for somebody to devour. Well, lions, they don't attack
- 22:26Speaker 4: the herd. They single you out. And then they make their,
- 22:29Speaker 4: you know, then they make their attack. Then they make
- 22:31Speaker 4: their lethal blow. So for anybody who is struggling to
- 22:34Speaker 4: be alone, I would encourage you to find something, even
- 22:39Speaker 4: if it's just one person, like find a group, find
- 22:43Speaker 4: somebody that you can trust and confide in. The Bible
- 22:46Speaker 4: says to confess your sins to one another, pray for
- 22:48Speaker 4: one another so that you can heal. It's super, super
- 22:52Speaker 4: important that we have both sides of it because there
- 22:55Speaker 4: are times where we struggle to stand and then there's
- 22:57Speaker 4: times where we are standing firm. And I think it's
- 23:00Speaker 4: important to acknowledge that we have to play both roles
- 23:05Speaker 4: as the time comes.
- 23:07Speaker 8: That's good rick yeah and if you're a listener out
- 23:11Speaker 8: there right now and you know we're talking a lot
- 23:13Speaker 8: of scripture we're talking a lot of bible history historically
- 23:16Speaker 8: you know you don't need all that just just start
- 23:19Speaker 8: with the prayer just start with the prayer and ask
- 23:21Speaker 8: for god's help um all these things that we talked
- 23:24Speaker 8: about are just the benefits that you know get to
- 23:26Speaker 8: go with our faith and um putting god.
- 23:29Speaker 5: First and and you know leading his way so but
- 23:33Speaker 5: You know, you can be really overwhelmed when you're going
- 23:35Speaker 5: through whatever it is you're going through and not even
- 23:37Speaker 5: know where to start.
- 23:38Speaker 6: And you can just start with prayer.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Amen.
- 23:42Speaker 2: One more verse. So you were just mentioning how Paul
- 23:45Speaker 2: ends after he goes through the whole armor of God. Again,
- 23:48Speaker 2: to my point of huddling up with people. So Paul,
- 23:52Speaker 2: in verse 18, saying, praying always. Keep praying. Just keep praying.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Keep talking to God. 1 Thessalonians 5 says, pray without ceasing.
- 24:01Speaker 2: You don't have to be on your knees. You don't
- 24:02Speaker 2: have to light candles. I was taught that as a Catholic.
- 24:05Speaker 2: As you go all day long, 24-7, if you're awake,
- 24:07Speaker 2: you're just praying to God. And prayer and supplications in
- 24:11Speaker 2: the Spirit. That's capital S. That's like in the will
- 24:14Speaker 2: of God. Being watchful to this end. All perseverance and
- 24:19Speaker 2: supplication for the saints. That's the word for the church,
- 24:21Speaker 2: the believers in Christ.
- 24:23Speaker 4: 19.
- 24:23Speaker 2: He's asking for prayer from me that utterance may be
- 24:27Speaker 2: given to me that I might open my mouth boldly
- 24:30Speaker 2: to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which
- 24:34Speaker 2: I'm an ambassador in chains, he's in jail for it,
- 24:36Speaker 2: that in it I may speak boldly as I ought
- 24:39Speaker 2: to speak. I don't know if it pops out to you,
- 24:42Speaker 2: but Paul is asking for prayer, to have the boldness
- 24:45Speaker 2: to open his mouth and put words in the air.
- 24:48Speaker 2: The whole church has gone quiet. Don't talk about politics,
- 24:51Speaker 2: don't talk about religion. Meanwhile, we've got all this spiritual
- 24:54Speaker 2: warfare going around. Inside, I'm a wreck, I'm anxiety, worry, this, that,
- 24:59Speaker 2: and I'm scared to talk about it. That's what I
- 25:01Speaker 2: love about counseling. One-on-one, this isn't gossip. You can talk
- 25:05Speaker 2: about it. And then, you know, you're not supposed to
- 25:07Speaker 2: share your business with everybody, but even in Celebrate Recovery,
- 25:10Speaker 2: confess to God, to myself, and to someone I trust.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Talk about this. Pray for one another. Talk about it.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Mini sermon. Cody, your turn. Sorry.
- 25:22Speaker 6: Go, Pastor Jack.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Absolutely, absolutely right. Like, you know, it's so, so important
- 25:28Speaker 4: that we bring our concerns forward. to one another, right?
- 25:32Speaker 4: Like I even think of David, right? When he committed
- 25:34Speaker 4: adultery and had Uriah killed and God sends the prophet
- 25:39Speaker 4: Nathan to correct him on this, right? And then it
- 25:44Speaker 4: was through that other person that David realized like, okay,
- 25:47Speaker 4: I have to talk about this. I can't just hide it.
- 25:50Speaker 4: Even though God already knows everything, like I need to
- 25:52Speaker 4: get it out. And by getting that out, the healing
- 25:56Speaker 4: journey started, right? Things started. So there's so much power.
- 26:00Speaker 4: The Bible says that Life and death is in the
- 26:02Speaker 4: power of the tongue. And I often look at that
- 26:04Speaker 4: like we have the power to say something or we
- 26:06Speaker 4: have the power to keep it in. And sometimes when
- 26:08Speaker 4: we hold things in, it bottles up, it explodes, right?
- 26:12Speaker 4: We turn to drugs, we turn to alcohol, we turn
- 26:14Speaker 4: to these things because the voice is in our head.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Even most of the time, our own voice is telling
- 26:20Speaker 4: us things that aren't true. And the enemy knows that
- 26:22Speaker 4: and he plays on it. I look at it like this,
- 26:25Speaker 4: whether it's temptations, whether it's sin, whether it's struggles, mental struggles,
- 26:29Speaker 4: it's like mold. Mold grows in darkness. But the moment
- 26:33Speaker 4: I confess it to God, the moment I confess it
- 26:35Speaker 4: to others, it's like putting it under light therapy. It
- 26:39Speaker 4: exposes to the light. And when you put mold in light,
- 26:41Speaker 4: it starts to go away. So for those who struggle
- 26:45Speaker 4: with temptations, those who struggle with mental health, those who
- 26:48Speaker 4: struggle with sin or mold, whatever it is, anything that
- 26:51Speaker 4: you're struggling with, my encouragement would be bring it to
- 26:54Speaker 4: the light. Confess it to somebody else that you trust. counselor,
- 26:58Speaker 4: a pastor, a chaplain, a friend, a family member, and
- 27:02Speaker 4: you just get it out. It makes you feel better.
- 27:06Speaker 4: And then you have that, that fellowship, that partnership, or
- 27:09Speaker 4: you're not alone.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:13Speaker 5: And I was, you mentioned earlier that, you know, any
- 27:16Speaker 5: time of the day, 24 seven all day. And that's me, man.
- 27:19Speaker 5: I'm just, that's how I get to my day. And that's,
- 27:22Speaker 5: I probably, you know, that, that stand in that guard
- 27:26Speaker 5: that's around me all day long. And like you said,
- 27:28Speaker 5: it doesn't have to be formal or.
- 27:29Speaker 6: This or that.
- 27:31Speaker 5: Just, you know, say in your heart what your needs
- 27:33Speaker 5: are and just ask and be right there by God
- 27:37Speaker 5: and have God with you.
- 27:39Speaker 6: And it's something we get to do.
- 27:41Speaker 5: You know, at the end of the day, when I
- 27:42Speaker 5: get to pray with my wife before we go to bed,
- 27:46Speaker 5: it just wraps up my whole day of, you know,
- 27:48Speaker 5: getting through the day with the Lord's protections.
- 27:52Speaker 2: And I'm not making fun of Pentecostals, but they're famous for,
- 27:55Speaker 2: I rebuke that in the name of Jesus. I do
- 27:58Speaker 2: not receive that. And that's taking authority, taking every thought captive.
- 28:02Speaker 2: If something's demonic or something evil, say it out loud.
- 28:06Speaker 2: I rebuke that in the name of Jesus. I don't
- 28:08Speaker 2: have to receive every thought or every opinion that comes
- 28:11Speaker 2: my way. And that's part of renewing your mind, renewing
- 28:14Speaker 2: your life. And what we look at, what we listen to,
- 28:18Speaker 2: and how we let it either receive it in our
- 28:21Speaker 2: heart or just reject it. You know, God gives that
- 28:23Speaker 2: discernment what's of him and what's not of him. So
- 28:27Speaker 2: that's where the power for it. That's good stuff, man.
- 28:29Speaker 2: It's amazing how quick 30 minutes goes with you guys.
- 28:32Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I want to encourage everyone again to check out your ministry,
- 28:35Speaker 2: Rick Corrado, Cody Corrado. He's also a pastor, Desert View
- 28:39Speaker 2: Family Services and Counseling, 505-326-7878. I forgot to add it,
- 28:45Speaker 2: but their website, which we've had up is mydesertview.org. And
- 28:51Speaker 2: I've showed it a few times while we're talking, but
- 28:53Speaker 2: it wasn't scrolling along the bottom. My desert view.org. Check
- 28:57Speaker 2: out the website. You guys want to close the prayer?
- 28:59Speaker 6: Let's do it.
- 29:04Speaker 4: Heavenly father. I thank you for today. I thank you
- 29:06Speaker 4: for the opportunity to come together and to be able
- 29:09Speaker 4: to talk about your word, the life giving word that
- 29:12Speaker 4: we all cling to in every, every moment of our
- 29:15Speaker 4: life where we should Lord. And I pray for those of,
- 29:18Speaker 4: you know, who are struggling financially, that you would give
- 29:20Speaker 4: them the courage and the confidence to confess their struggles
- 29:25Speaker 4: to a trusted advisor or that there would, that, you know,
- 29:30Speaker 4: we perish for, for lack of counsel. And, and we
- 29:34Speaker 4: just need that sense of community around us. We need
- 29:37Speaker 4: to be plugged in and, form shape or form. And
- 29:42Speaker 4: what I pray that you would help all of us
- 29:44Speaker 4: to stand firm, help all of us learn to, to surrender,
- 29:49Speaker 4: to stand firm, to submit. And that in those seasons,
- 29:52Speaker 4: when things are going well for us, we can be that,
- 29:56Speaker 4: that sense of, we can bring in that ministry of
- 30:00Speaker 4: presence for those who need it most. And that as,
- 30:04Speaker 4: as we're partnered with them, Holy spirit, you would just
- 30:07Speaker 4: lead the way you would take over. You would speak
- 30:10Speaker 4: through us. You would speak to us. And that as
- 30:12Speaker 4: we go forth to accomplish what you've set in terms
- 30:15Speaker 4: of making disciples, that we would bring in into harmony,
- 30:21Speaker 4: the practical sense of mental health and the spiritual side
- 30:24Speaker 4: of things. This is very real battle. that surrounds us
- 30:28Speaker 4: every moment of every day and that you would give
- 30:31Speaker 4: us the wisdom to do so. And let that be
- 30:35Speaker 4: true for every believer in Christ is we are to
- 30:42Speaker 4: spread your message, spread your name for your glory and
- 30:45Speaker 4: that those who are lost, we would seek them with
- 30:48Speaker 4: all diligence and just be that sense of peace that
- 30:56Speaker 4: you have given us. as we ultimately point to you,
- 31:00Speaker 4: the peace giver. And I just pray this all in
- 31:02Speaker 4: the name of Jesus.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Amen. Amen.
- 31:05Speaker 7: Amen.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Amen.
- 31:06Speaker 2: That was good. You covered it like a blanket. That
- 31:08Speaker 2: was awesome. Praise the Lord. And thank you, Lord, for
- 31:11Speaker 2: time together. Thank you for this ministry and time to
- 31:14Speaker 2: talk about these things. I thank you that John even
- 31:16Speaker 2: told us in 1 John 4, greater is he who
- 31:18Speaker 2: is in us than he who is in the world.
- 31:21Speaker 2: And those who have not made that decision, that they
- 31:23Speaker 2: would even right now look up and say, Lord, come
- 31:25Speaker 2: into my life. Fill me with your Holy Spirit. Lead me,
- 31:28Speaker 2: guide me, forgive me of my sins. I know you'll
- 31:30Speaker 2: meet him right there in Jesus name. Amen.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Awesome.
