- 0:00Growing closer to God in times of change as covenant keeping
- 0:06women and men, you're likely experiencing challenges or will
- 0:10experience challenges that you've never experienced before.
- 0:14If you are, hang in there and hold on a little longer.
- 0:19Don't run from the hard. Rather, lean into the Lord.
- 0:24Hold on to Him and His love. Hold on to His covenant
- 0:27promises. He loves you, and because He
- 0:31loves you, you'll never miss an opportunity to love and bless
- 0:34you, including the opportunity to help you to grow.
- 0:40Gratefully, we have the blessing of partnering with the Lord
- 0:43through our covenant, relationship with Him, and
- 0:45counseling with Him in all our doings.
- 0:48We can choose to trust Him with our life each day and to receive
- 0:51His promised peace and His healing, strengthening power as
- 0:56we live our covenants. God can do a lot with a willing
- 1:01heart. There are many things that Nephi
- 1:04was commanded to do they had never done before.
- 1:08Among those things, Nephi was commanded to build a ship.
- 1:12Nephi wrote. We did work Timbers of curious
- 1:15workmanship, and the Lord just show me from time to time after
- 1:19what manner I should work the Timbers of the ship.
- 1:22Now I, Nephi, did not work the Timbers after the manner which
- 1:25was learned of by men, neither did I build the ship after the
- 1:29manner of men, but I did build after the manner which the Lord
- 1:33had shown unto me. Your life, efforts and
- 1:38priorities will look different from the world's as you keep
- 1:40your covenants, seek revelation and work Timbers of curious
- 1:44workmanship in your own lives. Man's ways are not God's ways.
- 1:51The Lord is not looking at your resume as much as your heart.
- 1:55You can do a lot with a willing heart, and out of seemingly
- 1:59small things like a willing heart can precede that which is
- 2:02great. Build your relationship with
- 2:07Him. Though the children of Israel
- 2:11wandered 40 years, God did not provide a 40 year supply of mana
- 2:15upfront, nor did He provide a yearly or weekly supply, but He
- 2:20gave them what they needed daily.
- 2:23Their daily portion supplied them not only with essential
- 2:26temporal nourishment, but also spiritual nourishment as it LED
- 2:29them to trust in God for what they needed each day.
- 2:34I think the Lord is more interested in building a
- 2:36relationship with you and me than He is about our comfort in
- 2:40knowing what lies ahead. He has promised His power,
- 2:44perspective, and peace as we prioritize our covenants with
- 2:47Him and personal prayer, studying His Word, repenting
- 2:52often, ministering in His name, engaging in His healing work of
- 2:57family history, and worshipping in His house, the House of the
- 3:01Lord. I've learned that having faith,
- 3:05even great faith, does not preclude us from seeing our
- 3:08weaknesses and opportunities to change.
- 3:10In fact, the closer we come to Christ and become more like Him,
- 3:15the more we see by the Spirit those things that we need to
- 3:17change. Turning to Him in our humility
- 3:20and weakness builds trust and love.
- 3:24Increasing our faith in Christ increases our peace in Christ.
- 3:29The Lord our Redeemer said, Look unto me in every thought.
- 3:33Doubt not, fear not. Look unto Him who sees you, Him
- 3:39who knows your heart. You are not alone.
- 3:44All of heaven is with you as you seek to do His will and do good.
- 3:49Walk with your Lord and God, for He is with you and cleaves unto
- 3:54you, and He desires you to cleave unto Him.
- 4:00Choosing faith when we are transplanted.
- 4:04Last summer I planted a garden of tomato plants. 14 In fact, I
- 4:09planted them at a time when you usually don't plant a garden
- 4:12mid-july in the heat of the summer.
- 4:15I took those little plants in their small temporary containers
- 4:18and place them into a wide and deep plot of earth.
- 4:21And like most plants that get transplanted, for the first
- 4:24little while they looked a little sad and leaned over to
- 4:28one side. They probably said, why did you
- 4:30pull me from my comfortable familiar container and put me in
- 4:33this new and unfamiliar soil with plants I don't even know?
- 4:38Well, I took special care of these little plants and guess
- 4:41what happened? Over time these tender little
- 4:44plants begin to get root, strengthen and grow and what was
- 4:49a small group of fragile tomato plants grew into a Hardy tomato
- 4:53jungle. When we get transplanted into
- 4:56new places with new experiences, people, and relationships, it
- 5:01takes us a bit of time to acclimate and in some cases, to
- 5:05understand why we are there. But as we trust in the Lord,
- 5:09listen for His direction, and watch for His manna day by day,
- 5:14He will walk with us, teach us, and help carry our burdens.
- 5:19He will nourish and strengthen our roots in the heat of the
- 5:21day. Imagine if these plants never
- 5:25were transplanted from their original containers.
- 5:28Their development would have been stunted.
- 5:30They would have been more vulnerable to stress and
- 5:32disease. Old fast to eternal constants.
- 5:39Although growth and change are essential parts of our
- 5:41progression, what we've covenanted to do, there are
- 5:44gratefully some familiar constants in our lives that
- 5:47balance and anchor us in times of change.
- 5:50Those eternal constants, our Heavenly Father and our Savior
- 5:55Jesus Christ, their perfect love for you, their complete
- 5:59awareness of you, their power and covenant promises.
- 6:04These are what we hold to as the world changes and shifts when
- 6:08heartache and uncertainty enter in.
- 6:10God's power and love can prevail in our lives if we choose to
- 6:14trust in Him and if we keep our covenants with all our hearts.
- 6:20I can say with certainty that our true stability is found in
- 6:24our Savior Jesus Christ. He is unchanging, all powerful,
- 6:29and all loving. As we trust in God and put our
- 6:34covenant relationship with Him first, all opportunities and
- 6:37challenges that come our way, we'll work together for our
- 6:41good. We'll look back at our lives and
- 6:44praise Him for His goodness to us.
- 6:48There is no Plan B for those who keep their covenants.
- 6:52The promised blessings of the Lord are not a matter of if, but
- 6:56when in the Lord's wisdom and timing as we strive to follow
- 7:00Him. President D Todd Christofferson,
- 7:04second counselor in the First Presidency, taught quote, no one
- 7:08is predestined to receive less than all that the Father has for
- 7:12his children, UN quote. I know that our Father in heaven
- 7:16loves you and desires to bless you with all that He has.
- 7:20He sent His Son Jesus Christ to show us the way and to suffer
- 7:24and die for our sins that we might be suckered in our needs
- 7:27and partake of His greatest gift, eternal life with those we
- 7:32love.
