Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another Spanish adventure? Luna: Yes! I've been practicing from last episode. Buying a snack at the park — I can do that now. Lucas: That's great. Today we're staying at the park but moving to a new piece of playground equipment. The climbing frame. Luna: Oh, the climbing frame! I used to love those as a kid. Lucas: In Spanish, it's called 'la estructura de escalada'. Let's say it together: la estructura de escalada. Luna: La estructura de escalada. That's a long one. La estructura de escalada. Lucas: You got it. 'Estructura' means structure, and 'escalada' means climbing. So literally climbing structure. Luna: That makes sense. La estructura de escalada. Lucas: Now, when you want to say 'climb the frame', you say 'subir la estructura'. Subir — to go up. So 'subir la estructura'. Luna: Subir la estructura. So if I want to say 'I climb the frame', it's 'yo subo la estructura'? Lucas: Exactly! 'Yo subo la estructura'. But for today, let's focus on the infinitive: subir la estructura. Luna: Okay, subir la estructura. Got it. Lucas: And when you come down, you say 'bajar con cuidado'. Bajar means to go down, and 'con cuidado' means carefully. Luna: Bajar con cuidado. That's useful. So 'I climb up and come down carefully'. Lucas: Yes. Now imagine you're at the park and you see a tall climbing frame. You might say 'es muy alto' — it's very tall. Luna: Es muy alto. That could be scary if you're afraid of heights. Lucas: Right. And if you're scared, you can say 'tengo miedo' — I'm scared. 'Tengo miedo'. Luna: Tengo miedo. I think I'd say that looking up at a tall frame. Lucas: But then someone might encourage you: 'tú puedes' — you can do it. 'Tú puedes'. Luna: Tú puedes. That's a nice phrase. So if a friend is scared, I can say 'tú puedes'. Lucas: Exactly. Let's hear all our phrases: la estructura de escalada, subir la estructura, bajar con cuidado, es muy alto, tengo miedo, tú puedes. Luna: La estructura de escalada, subir la estructura, bajar con cuidado, es muy alto, tengo miedo, tú puedes. Lucas: Awesome. Now let's imagine a little scene. You're at the park with a friend. You see the climbing frame. What do you say? Luna: Mira, la estructura de escalada. Es muy alto. Tengo miedo. Lucas: And your friend says: 'No te preocupes, tú puedes. Vamos a subir la estructura.' Then you climb up and your friend says: 'Baja con cuidado.' Luna: That's a good scene. So I can use all these phrases in a short conversation. Lucas: Yes. And after you climb down, you can say 'fue divertido' — it was fun. But that's for another episode. Luna: Fair enough. I think I've got these down. Let me try: la estructura de escalada, subir la estructura, bajar con cuidado, es muy alto, tengo miedo, tú puedes. Lucas: Perfect. You're ready for the park. Luna: Thanks, Lucas.
