- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome. It
- 0:08Speaker 1: is time now for one on one with the bro.
- 0:10Speaker 1: It's actually two one one here today, but who's counting.
- 0:13Speaker 1: They've got true the Credit Union in the house. Today.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We have Andrew who's been here about a thousand times.
- 0:18Speaker 1: There a few times as well, and today we're going
- 0:21Speaker 1: to be talking a little bit about being your hometown
- 0:24Speaker 1: lender and keeping things local. So let's start with Darry here.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Tell us about being a hometown lender and making hometown decisions.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Tom, we just we appreciate the opportunity that our
- 0:37Speaker 2: executive team and our leadership team give us. When we
- 0:39Speaker 2: say we walk up the stairs for a decision, We
- 0:41Speaker 2: literally walk up the stairs to the third floor to
- 0:43Speaker 2: our executive team and the leadership to make decisions. And
- 0:46Speaker 2: so we're just really proud of that. Andrew has a
- 0:48Speaker 2: few more bits to say on that too, Oh he does.
- 0:51Speaker 1: He came with whird.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean being a hometown lender. You know, we're
- 0:55Speaker 3: not waiting for a decision from another state. As Daris said,
- 0:58Speaker 3: we walk upstairs and get the decision. If it's not
- 1:00Speaker 3: able to be made on that floor, then we work
- 1:03Speaker 3: work through the building and get that decision made. And
- 1:06Speaker 3: you know with that, you know, local decisions allows us
- 1:08Speaker 3: to be a little more responsive, a little more personal,
- 1:11Speaker 3: and more relationship focused.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And you know what, that goes a long way in
- 1:16Speaker 1: a town like Bartlesville, It goes a long way in
- 1:20Speaker 1: a town like Phusca, where you soon will be, and
- 1:23Speaker 1: also just anywhere else Truity has a footprint. It means
- 1:27Speaker 1: the world. Yes, And you know one thing that I
- 1:30Speaker 1: like about Truity when I go around town and if
- 1:33Speaker 1: I'm out at you know, like say an event or function,
- 1:36Speaker 1: maybe a kid's ball game or something like that, you
- 1:38Speaker 1: can't swing a cat by a tail and not hit
- 1:40Speaker 1: somebody that has a Truity shirt on. You're correct, because
- 1:43Speaker 1: you guys are so what we need to the community.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Bad kind of analogy there, but you know, I wouldn't
- 1:51Speaker 1: dare swing a.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Cat that whether it's an employee there or or or
- 1:56Speaker 3: us sponsoring something for the for the kids.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Oh. Indeed, very president tell us a little bit about
- 2:01Speaker 1: interest rate. That's jump ball. Whoever wants to take that one.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yeah, interest rates are you know, they remain a little
- 2:07Speaker 3: higher than a few years ago, but people are adapting
- 2:09Speaker 3: and moving forward. You know, and their financial decisions. They're
- 2:11Speaker 3: not letting that get in their way anymore. You know,
- 2:13Speaker 3: we're seeing members, you know, focus on the long term
- 2:16Speaker 3: value of affordability as opposed.
- 2:19Speaker 4: To waiting for the perfect rate.
- 2:20Speaker 3: You know, there for a long time we were in
- 2:21Speaker 3: a waiting mode and markets kind of slowed down. But
- 2:25Speaker 3: that's kind of picked up and we kind of gained
- 2:27Speaker 3: some momentum.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Well that's great. I mean, he will do adapt and
- 2:33Speaker 1: the economy will never be the same. You know, any
- 2:36Speaker 1: two or three years in a row, there might be
- 2:38Speaker 1: some similarities, but we always have little hills and valleys
- 2:42Speaker 1: along the way. But it's always about trying to find
- 2:45Speaker 1: a solution. And I think having the hometown discussion, the
- 2:50Speaker 1: hometown decisions, the hometown people working with you on your decision,
- 2:55Speaker 1: how you're going to go about what you need to do,
- 2:58Speaker 1: is just so. So. Market is moving up in volume, correct.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Yeah, market's moving up in volume. You know, we've seen
- 3:06Speaker 4: a strong momentum this year.
- 3:07Speaker 3: In fact, we've had the best first quarter of the
- 3:09Speaker 3: year in four years. Yes, despite everything that's going on,
- 3:14Speaker 3: the rates kind of dip, they're pushing back up a
- 3:16Speaker 3: little bit, but we got enough momentum, and we've had
- 3:19Speaker 3: a really good start to the year.
- 3:21Speaker 1: That is great. You know, we have a vibrant community
- 3:24Speaker 1: and all the communities that we serve are on the
- 3:26Speaker 1: growing edge. I've seen some shrinkage and some other communities
- 3:30Speaker 1: our sizes across Oklahoma as they're kind of being absorbed
- 3:33Speaker 1: into the larger cities. But Bartlesville is one of the
- 3:38Speaker 1: outliers or we're actually growing, we're maintaining, and we're actually
- 3:43Speaker 1: putting up some houses. They're coming up out of the ground.
- 3:46Speaker 1: How do you like that? And you guys are helping
- 3:48Speaker 1: them grow. Yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Absolutely, And to piggyback off of that too, Tom, you know,
- 3:51Speaker 2: it takes a lot more money to live every day.
- 3:54Speaker 2: We know that, we recognize that we have a lot
- 3:56Speaker 2: of great local businesses here in our community, but it
- 3:58Speaker 2: also takes a lot more for them to operate day
- 4:01Speaker 2: to day. So just to plug our community support our
- 4:04Speaker 2: local business is great and prop them up really great.
- 4:08Speaker 5: But you know, Moxie the eatery unhinged.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I mean, those are just a few I know on
- 4:12Speaker 2: this and a lot because we don't have time to
- 4:14Speaker 2: go through all the local businesses that we have here,
- 4:17Speaker 2: but we really try to support our local businesses through
- 4:21Speaker 2: a treaty credit union, and our people try to shop
- 4:24Speaker 2: there as well.
- 4:25Speaker 1: So yeah, I know you too. You want to know
- 4:27Speaker 1: why because my hometown is where I live, and I
- 4:29Speaker 1: want to make sure that my neighbors are employed and
- 4:32Speaker 1: they can make a payroll and everybody functions well together.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And that's all about community, isn't it.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think it's important.
- 4:42Speaker 3: You know, education and communication are especially important in today's
- 4:45Speaker 3: rate environment because you have to understand what that math is.
- 4:48Speaker 3: You know, you look at the rate, we'll look at
- 4:49Speaker 3: the long term and what do you get? What are
- 4:51Speaker 3: you gaining in that in that particular transaction?
- 4:54Speaker 1: So very good. Now, I love going to the downtown facility,
- 5:00Speaker 1: and there's a reason why you have this huge mural.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I always miss something like, God, I didn't see that
- 5:07Speaker 1: the last time I was there, and I find out
- 5:10Speaker 1: I found out I'm not the only one that does that.
- 5:15Speaker 1: But it's it's really a fascinating setup that you have
- 5:18Speaker 1: there because not only do you have, you know, great
- 5:21Speaker 1: tellers that help you there when you walk in, but Joe,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you have a team right off to the left hand
- 5:27Speaker 1: side who is kind of like, you know, the advanced team.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I mean, they will just take care of you just
- 5:34Speaker 1: like that. You got a question, you will have an answer.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And you know what, if they don't have an answer,
- 5:38Speaker 1: they'll call somebody upstairs and you'll have that answer pretty
- 5:41Speaker 1: darn quick. And it's kind of like rapid response. I
- 5:45Speaker 1: don't want people think that people are running around. They're not.
- 5:48Speaker 1: But they're professionally getting some speed to your issue. And
- 5:54Speaker 1: I really like that.
- 5:55Speaker 3: And they're giving parameters that they can make some decisions
- 5:58Speaker 3: right there at the case as well. One of the
- 6:00Speaker 3: things that I noticed that I think is important to
- 6:02Speaker 3: say is I walked in their day from going to lunch,
- 6:04Speaker 3: and I haven't never noticed before, but there's a sign
- 6:06Speaker 3: there on the on the on the left there that
- 6:08Speaker 3: you said for the folks that member service, that says welcome.
- 6:12Speaker 3: And you know, I love that they put that sign up.
- 6:14Speaker 3: It makes you kind of feel like you're coming into
- 6:16Speaker 3: you know, something more than just a business.
- 6:18Speaker 1: That is great. Sometimes you know, you take a look
- 6:21Speaker 1: at that and you go that must use the restricted zone,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and I thought the restricted zone at all. It's like,
- 6:26Speaker 1: how can we help you zone. Another thing that's great
- 6:29Speaker 1: is that when the doors are closed for normal foot
- 6:32Speaker 1: traffic hours. Your website and your apps are incredible. You know,
- 6:40Speaker 1: every week I get an update on my credit score.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Oh yeah I need and I see how quickly my
- 6:46Speaker 1: car payment's going down, and uh and it it just
- 6:50Speaker 1: tells me just about everything I need to know. And uh,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you don't get that everywhere.
- 6:55Speaker 3: No, it's back to that education piece and letting you
- 6:58Speaker 3: know where you're at and your financers are giving of
- 7:00Speaker 3: the tools to try to understand those finances.
- 7:02Speaker 4: And it really means a lot to people.
- 7:04Speaker 1: It's communication and when you get that communication, you know,
- 7:09Speaker 1: you feel comfortable and it builds trust absolutely, and I
- 7:12Speaker 1: really think that that it goes a long way, a
- 7:15Speaker 1: very long way. And the funny thing is if you
- 7:18Speaker 1: get an email from somebody from True Cancers, are you
- 7:22Speaker 1: already know that person? That's just how local that's right.
- 7:26Speaker 3: And you know the other thing is, as you mentioned,
- 7:27Speaker 3: you know, we've got ways to go out to the
- 7:30Speaker 3: website and do things after hours, but where we're really
- 7:33Speaker 3: investing in a lot of the technology and the itms
- 7:35Speaker 3: and things where you still get that interaction with a
- 7:39Speaker 3: person through that im as if you're not able to
- 7:42Speaker 3: go into the building. So We've invested in a lot
- 7:44Speaker 3: of that and that's bringing a lot of value to
- 7:46Speaker 3: our members.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I believe that's pretty cool because instead of going to
- 7:49Speaker 1: an ATM, yes, where you just see, oh I got
- 7:53Speaker 1: to push a button here, Oh you push one button,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you're talking to somebody. You got a live pressure and
- 7:58Speaker 1: that's my person. It's like, hey, how'd you get it? Yeah?
- 8:03Speaker 1: But correct? But anyway, And one thing I'm very impressed
- 8:07Speaker 1: with is that you work so hard on security. Yes,
- 8:12Speaker 1: efforts to make sure that everyone's information is rock solid, safer.
- 8:19Speaker 1: You can't put a price on that, you know.
- 8:22Speaker 3: And we've got a great uh Steve is great at
- 8:26Speaker 3: making sure that our security is there.
- 8:28Speaker 1: You know.
- 8:28Speaker 3: He's our chief information officer and when he came in
- 8:31Speaker 3: he really buttoned us up and made sure that we're
- 8:34Speaker 3: got overlays and things that are security there.
- 8:36Speaker 4: We've got a guy that that's all he does is security.
- 8:39Speaker 4: He looks at those things.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Even when we entertain a vendor, they have to go
- 8:42Speaker 3: through a process that it's safe for us to do
- 8:45Speaker 3: business with them, because it's not just about us, it's about.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Who we use as vendors as well. Are they safer?
- 8:50Speaker 3: They do they have protocols in place to safeguard our
- 8:54Speaker 3: members and their their information.
- 8:56Speaker 4: So it's a it's a it's been a real uh.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Not that we weren't safe before, but it just continues
- 9:00Speaker 3: to evolve as technology comes out.
- 9:03Speaker 4: So they've done a great.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Job with that. Now, when we talk about being a
- 9:07Speaker 1: member of a credit union, you are you're a voting member, ye,
- 9:11Speaker 1: you're a shareholder. It's also have the servanthood approach to service.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Our members there, you know, for us, as you know,
- 9:20Speaker 3: I always tell people that they say, well, what's the difference,
- 9:22Speaker 3: And the differences is that I work for that member.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Whether you've got twenty five dollars in that share account
- 9:27Speaker 3: or two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in that share account,
- 9:29Speaker 3: you're the same person at my desk. So everybody gets
- 9:32Speaker 3: that same opportunity to be served at the same level,
- 9:35Speaker 3: regardless because you're a voting member, as you said, so
- 9:38Speaker 3: we work.
- 9:38Speaker 4: For them, we don't work for shareholders.
- 9:40Speaker 3: You know, our philosophy has always been rooted in service first,
- 9:43Speaker 3: and we take that from a lending standpoint, you know,
- 9:47Speaker 3: listening first, understanding goals, helping members make informed decisions, and
- 9:52Speaker 3: so that servanthood approach really makes a difference. You know,
- 9:56Speaker 3: whether you're buying a house or you're trying to start
- 9:58Speaker 3: a business, as Derek takes care of it.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Now we're trying to take care of a business. Everybody
- 10:05Speaker 1: starts out with this big, robust confidence. I mean it's
- 10:09Speaker 1: a surge. I'm stepping off the curve. I'm crossing the
- 10:13Speaker 1: street into being an entrepreneur now all of a sudden, like,
- 10:18Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I'm across the street. Now I have questions.
- 10:22Speaker 1: That's when we come talk to Derek.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Really, yeah, we're here to help and guide as as
- 10:25Speaker 5: Injin mentioned, and educate.
- 10:26Speaker 2: So you know, it is a leap of faith starting
- 10:29Speaker 2: a business, and it can be really scary, and we
- 10:32Speaker 2: recognize that, and so we're here to help any way
- 10:34Speaker 2: we can, whether it be just a you know, helping
- 10:37Speaker 2: guide you in some deposit products that we have online banking,
- 10:41Speaker 2: like you'd mentioned, Tom, We've got some more robust products
- 10:44Speaker 2: on our online banking for businesses that we haven't had
- 10:46Speaker 2: in the past.
- 10:47Speaker 5: And so we're just really here to help and be servants.
- 10:51Speaker 3: You talk about entrepreneurs, and a lot of those folks
- 10:53Speaker 3: start doing that because of the passion and what they're
- 10:55Speaker 3: selling or doing or making, but they don't really maybe
- 10:59Speaker 3: not as in tune with the financial back office side
- 11:01Speaker 3: that has to happen as well to support that, and
- 11:03Speaker 3: that's where Derek comes in and gives them all those
- 11:06Speaker 3: tools that you know, all that comes into a place
- 11:08Speaker 3: that can be looked at and watched and monitored and
- 11:11Speaker 3: so they can understand what's happening on the back.
- 11:13Speaker 4: End as well.
- 11:14Speaker 1: So not only do you provide a service, but somewhat
- 11:18Speaker 1: of an education too, your educators.
- 11:21Speaker 5: Yeah, as parts part of the part of our job.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I have seen the aha moment.
- 11:25Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely absolutely.
- 11:28Speaker 1: You know, for years, my grandparents had a small restaurant
- 11:33Speaker 1: and my mom wound up with a beauty shop. And
- 11:39Speaker 1: the thing was they would personally take that money down
- 11:43Speaker 1: to the bank with the deposit. Nobody else could do that. Yes,
- 11:47Speaker 1: they weren't gonna let sonny or grandson do it. Yes,
- 11:50Speaker 1: they might get lost. It's two buildings down. Yeah no, no,
- 11:55Speaker 1: Grams has got it or Mom's got it. But it
- 11:58Speaker 1: was a it was a thing of pride and we
- 12:00Speaker 1: still see that too.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Yes, Yes, nobody's going to run your p and L
- 12:05Speaker 4: like you do.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And they're pretty dark, careful where they're putting it in.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Thank goodness, they're they're choosing wisely and getting the intrude
- 12:14Speaker 1: to credit. Credit unions a little different than a regular bank, correct,
- 12:17Speaker 1: that's correct.
- 12:19Speaker 3: You know, as I said before, from a servant hood standpoint,
- 12:22Speaker 3: we work for that member. We don't work for someone
- 12:25Speaker 3: that's for profit. We've got to keep the lights on.
- 12:27Speaker 3: But we're there to bring that money back to the
- 12:29Speaker 3: table to go back to our members for different services
- 12:32Speaker 3: and being able to invest in that technology and things
- 12:35Speaker 3: like that. So we are different. The atmosphere is different,
- 12:38Speaker 3: and that's just the way. You know, we're a big
- 12:40Speaker 3: family over there. I've been there for thirty four years,
- 12:43Speaker 3: for goodness sake, and I would never thought I started
- 12:45Speaker 3: there as a part time teller, and I never really
- 12:47Speaker 3: thought I would still be there, and then you know,
- 12:49Speaker 3: there's been there quite some time, what fourteen fifteen years.
- 12:52Speaker 4: So when you look at our when.
- 12:54Speaker 3: You look at the culture that we have over there,
- 12:57Speaker 3: we're a big family.
- 12:58Speaker 1: You know.
- 12:58Speaker 3: It's not a place we walk into work, uh you know,
- 13:00Speaker 3: it's a it's a relief and it's a joy to
- 13:03Speaker 3: go in every day and know that you're supported and
- 13:06Speaker 3: know that it kind of brings out your nature to
- 13:09Speaker 3: support those members in the same fashion.
- 13:11Speaker 2: All right, where can we find you Johnstone Branch, downtown.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Johnstone Branch. Also, we've got the beautiful new piece of
- 13:19Speaker 1: architecture on west Southwest Washington Boulevard and the IM and Dewey. Yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: that's do here, you go, just go up there and
- 13:28Speaker 1: just just try it, just for giggle. I dare you.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Thank you very much for being with us here today.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Thank you. It's always great to have True to Credit
- 13:36Speaker 1: Union on board with our one on one.
- 13:37Speaker 4: With the problem.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Thanks for listening to one on one with a professional.
- 13:43Speaker 1: A paid presentation, the fourteen hundred K one
