Transcript
- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? Are you scared?
- 0:12What's gonna? What's your least favorite scary
- 0:14movie? The podcasts where we talk about
- 0:16The good, the bad, the Ugly, Andy Absurd, and all of our
- 0:18favorite. And least favorite?
- 0:19Scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:21movie rifely has its fan base even.
- 0:23If we don't. Get it?
- 0:24My name is Travis. My name is Jessie and welcome
- 0:27back to our monthly bonus installment, live, uncut and
- 0:30mostly undrawn. That's right, we are doing To Be
- 0:32or Not to be where we go to the free streaming services and find
- 0:37a hidden gem. That's right.
- 0:38Did we find one this week? I guess we'll find out.
- 0:41Yeah. And you know what?
- 0:42We're going to dive right in because this is a bonus episode.
- 0:44I guess I have a mini announcement that I don't know
- 0:47how to make schedules anymore because I put Pearl as
- 0:50premiering on the 20th. And to be or not to be
- 0:52premiering on the 24th, that's obviously wrong because the 20th
- 0:55is a Sunday and we do TV or not to be on Sundays.
- 0:57Yeah, it's OK. You know, it's a little slip up.
- 1:01As long as you know the movies that we're talking about, that's
- 1:03really all that matters. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05So this month was my pick, Yeah, but it's actually one that we
- 1:09had both collectively agreed to save on our TBQ.
- 1:13I was sitting there for a bit. Yeah, it's called Are You
- 1:15Scared? So I got a little bit of
- 1:18information. Released September 12th, 2006.
- 1:23Obviously it's on TV. Written by Ellis Walker and Andy
- 1:26Hurst. Directed by Andy Hurst.
- 1:28No music department. Is there no music at all in this
- 1:31movie? I don't think there is.
- 1:32I didn't even think about. That I think there's like a
- 1:34couple moments of like a synthesizer just going.
- 1:37Wait, no, no, no, no, no, no. There there is some music.
- 1:39I remember I just sounded very stock music.
- 1:42The yeah and yeah, that's definitely what it.
- 1:45Was special effects. Makeup was done by Tom Devlin,
- 1:48starring Alethia Kucher as Kelly, Aaron Consalvey as
- 1:53Sherry, Brad Ashton as Brandon, Carly Avers as Laura, Kareem
- 1:57Marbury as Jason Soren. Bowie is Dylan, Eric Francis is
- 2:01Detective Jay Bowman, Jennifer Koza James a Special Agent,
- 2:05Christine Robeson and Brent Fiddler as Shadow Man.
- 2:08What was that the name of the game?
- 2:10Yep, shadow man. Wow.
- 2:12That's not. That's kind of cool.
- 2:13It's a cool name. It would be cooler if he was in
- 2:15the shadows more. Yeah, we see his face like right
- 2:18from the get go. All right, time for our favorite
- 2:21game budget or bug Ted? Man bug Ted.
- 2:29I don't have financial information.
- 2:30On that, yeah, there's no way. But I mean, it's you just take
- 2:33one look at it, you can tell they they didn't have a lot of
- 2:35money. Guess what, I do have an IMDb
- 2:37score. OK, 3.1.
- 2:39Wow, I'm surprised it's that well.
- 2:43Really, I am too. I don't think it's a three.
- 2:45I don't think it's that bad. It's it's not a great movie, but
- 2:48it's not a three. And I'm sure we'll talk about it
- 2:50more in detail, but I do also need to point out there is a
- 2:52sequel to this and it has a lower rating.
- 2:55Oh really? Yeah.
- 2:56Oh, man. Whoa, I still.
- 2:57Want to watch it? I do too.
- 2:59I thought that there would be improvement, but I guess not.
- 3:03OK, I have a theme from 2006 horror movies.
- 3:06OK, what are you afraid of? So the first movie is Snakes on
- 3:11a Plane and the fear of snakes is called a videophobia.
- 3:15Did you look up all the phobias for all these?
- 3:17Cool. We're getting a little bit of a
- 3:20little bit of a, you know, science, psychology.
- 3:23Yeah. OK Snakes on a Plane released
- 3:28August 18th, 2006. Budget of 33 million, Worldwide
- 3:31gross of 62 million. IMDb score 5.5.
- 3:35God damn that's crazy. That's a weird movie.
- 3:38I've not actually ever seen it. I, I don't think I've seen it
- 3:42the right way. I've seen it on cable and I know
- 3:45that there's a lot of F bombs because we have.
- 3:48Yeah, yeah, I'm not seeing it the right way.
- 3:51OK, yeah, second movie, Dark ride.
- 3:55Man, I remember that. Movie.
- 3:56Yeah, it was a pretty. Good one it is.
- 3:58Fear of the dark is called Nicotophobia.
- 4:01Released October 20th, 2006. I don't have a budget but it
- 4:05made 321,000 and a 4.6 out of 10.
- 4:10Yeah, I liked it. I remember we watched that like
- 4:13really early in our relationship together.
- 4:15Yeah, it was one of those. Like for several years they did
- 4:18like the 8 scariest movies or 8 movies that will haunt you or I
- 4:22forget exactly what it was called but that was one of them.
- 4:25Yeah, and I that's one I watched a long time ago too.
- 4:27I was a kid from Sandlit the. Yeah, chubby kid.
- 4:30Yeah. What's his name?
- 4:33I don't know. I I can't.
- 4:35Oh my God that's gonna kill me now cuz I.
- 4:37Chunks what's? Really.
- 4:38No. Chunky.
- 4:41No Chuggly. It's not.
- 4:42He's chuggly. OK, OK, Third maybe.
- 4:45Yeah. The Wicker Man.
- 4:47OK, what's the fear here? Fear of bees is called Melissa
- 4:50phobia. Fear of bees.
- 4:52Oh oh God, the bees. Yeah, yeah, right, Because this
- 4:55is the Nick Cage 1 so. Oh yeah, that's right, that's
- 4:58right. At the release September 1st,
- 5:012006 Budget of 40 million worldwide Girls is 38 million.
- 5:08IMDb 3.8 out of 10. 3.8. Yeah.
- 5:11I've never seen that. I kind of want to, just because
- 5:15it seems like it'd be an experience, you know?
- 5:17Yeah, I feel like I like, I wouldn't even think of it as a
- 5:20remake honestly at that point, because I obviously have a lot
- 5:23of love for the original so. The original was pretty good,
- 5:27yeah. All right, I've got 2 tag lines.
- 5:301 is A tag line that's actually on the poster, and the other is
- 5:33what somebody submitted to the tagline section of IMDb.
- 5:37You can do that. You can submit your own.
- 5:38Yeah. What?
- 5:41Have we been reading false tag lines this whole time?
- 5:43That's why I won't. That's why I won't pull trivia
- 5:46from the IMDb trivia section. OK, yeah, I just didn't think
- 5:49you'd do that for tag lines. So the one on the poster is the
- 5:53last game you'll ever play? It's not even really a game.
- 5:59The 10 God, we're going to have to talk about that.
- 6:01Yeah. The one that the user submitted
- 6:05after waking up in an abandoned factory. 6 kidnapped teens
- 6:09misspelled turns. Turns 6 Kidnapped turns.
- 6:13Realize they are contestants on a reality show called Are You
- 6:16Scared? There's a lot.
- 6:24There's a lot to unpack with that.
- 6:25That's also the exact word for word description of the movie on
- 6:29IMDb. And I was thinking that these
- 6:31were all teens, they're in their 20s.
- 6:34Yeah. Wait, can.
- 6:35So does it specify if it's if it's user written or did you
- 6:39gather that from turn? I just assumed.
- 6:42OK. I just assumed or maybe the
- 6:46director submitted it and didn't really understand.
- 6:48Like maybe mix up tagline with logline.
- 6:52Yeah. See, I think that that's like
- 6:53probably what was put on the back of the DVD.
- 6:56Yeah, I mean, and that's what it like pulls up on TV also.
- 7:00So turns OK, we don't do really any more background information
- 7:06with our bonus episodes, so we're just going to dive right
- 7:08into our good, bad, ugly, and absurd.
- 7:10You got to 1st tell us why you picked this movie.
- 7:14I mean, it's a group of strangers trapped in a place.
- 7:18Yeah, a group of turns trapped in a place playing a game that
- 7:23can kill them. I there is not no more dressy
- 7:25coded movie out there. I think that I could find
- 7:28plenty, but this is a very dressy coded movie.
- 7:30Yeah, I like it too. I love that whole premise.
- 7:33Yeah, yeah. And I, it's entirely possible.
- 7:36We'll watch the second one later tonight even.
- 7:38We could. We could might.
- 7:40Who's gonna stop us a bunch of turns?
- 7:45I feel like it turns, it's like AI.
- 7:46Feel like it's a type of bird and I don't know why I.
- 7:48Think that I'm I'm feeling it as like a swear to like interns.
- 7:52No, it's it's a type of sea bird, OK, known for its slender
- 7:57bill build, pointed bill and forked tail.
- 8:01That's a completely different. Movie.
- 8:02I wanna watch that movie. I wanna see that movie too Yeah
- 8:05I wanna see the Turn edition OK OK all right goodbye that will
- 8:10be in absurd yes I kick it off right yes OK well, like I said I
- 8:16the premise I love the idea of it you know like game shows I
- 8:20like that the idea of it being like a live game show that
- 8:23people watch that always gets me you know that that's such like
- 8:26an easy sell for me when it when.
- 8:28It comes to. Movies, so it's fun, and I also
- 8:31like the idea of it playing on each person's individual fears.
- 8:36Mm hmm. That they volunteered.
- 8:38Yeah, which? I always feel like if I was on a
- 8:42show like, you know, Amazing Race, Fear Factor, whatever, I
- 8:46would lie about what scares me. I thought that the entire time,
- 8:50like you could easily, but like, do they can they see through the
- 8:54bullshit and realize that you're just kind of like not being
- 8:57honest, you know? And then also, what happens if
- 9:00somebody else lies about their fear, but it happens to be your
- 9:04fear, so you have to go through it anyway?
- 9:06I feel like a cool idea would be to like, everybody says a fear.
- 9:09But it gets mixed to like a different person, you know?
- 9:13I guess it's not really personalized to you anymore, but
- 9:16whatever. That's really all the good
- 9:19things I have to say about this movie, you know?
- 9:22Yeah, no, I, I like the concept that it's a reality show that
- 9:26people sign up for more in a second on that because it makes
- 9:32no sense. But I, I feel like this movie,
- 9:37it's for the people that watch Saw for the trap plot and only
- 9:41the trap plot. Yeah.
- 9:43And they're like, what traps are we going to do?
- 9:45Does it make any sense? How would this logistically work
- 9:48in the real world? Doesn't matter.
- 9:49And. They sold this, like, all right,
- 9:51we'll make a movie about traps too, and like, perfect.
- 9:53Whatever. And like, all right, so like,
- 9:55here's the thing. Like, I don't care about that.
- 9:56Just give me traps. Yeah.
- 9:58Like, don't give me any of the bullshit story that's weighing
- 10:01it down. Give me traps.
- 10:02Yes, that's that's probably how that meeting went.
- 10:05Yeah, They were like, give me trap ideas.
- 10:07And then we'll just have the actors improv the in between.
- 10:13Like when we started up this movie, Talia, like kind of
- 10:16looked back at us like this doesn't feel like a Saw movie.
- 10:20Like she was like seems like Saw but isn't Saw.
- 10:22Yeah, not quite it. OK, what's your bad?
- 10:27The thing that gets me the most is it doesn't deliver on the
- 10:30game show aspect of the movie. They build it up.
- 10:33It's like, hey, it's a game show and then there's no game aspect
- 10:37to it. It's basically just I gathered
- 10:39you here, you're going to die. Again, this is somebody that
- 10:43watched Saw for the chat plot, ignored the cop plot.
- 10:47They just heard another game has started and they're like
- 10:49perfect. That's what we're going to work
- 10:51with. So the detectives say things
- 10:52like another game has started, which when you're talking about
- 10:56a psychopath, like, just murdering people.
- 10:59Yeah. But then everybody else in this
- 11:02universe sees the game as like an actual reality TV game show
- 11:06that you apply for and everything.
- 11:08That I mean, when you think about this movie for a second,
- 11:12it starts to. Crumble because it immediately
- 11:14falls. In like, OK, so this is already
- 11:16an existing game show. People go through this show.
- 11:19Is this like a guy? See, The thing is like you
- 11:22couldn't make it like this was a guy playing on that.
- 11:24Like I got you here under the guise of it being a game show,
- 11:30that show. But this is actually my way of
- 11:33getting here to kill you. But no, like, it's very much
- 11:36like, no, this is the game show. This is.
- 11:37The show people will TuneIn for this shit but like there's no
- 11:42game, there's nothing. It's just I don't know.
- 11:46It Yeah, like, it opens on that, that that opening with the one
- 11:49girl who was, if she completed her task, she would win a
- 11:53modeling contract. I wanted to see more of like,
- 11:55the irony of that kind of stuff. But instead it seems like they
- 11:58just win money. I don't know.
- 12:00I'm so confused. I mean, people are dying, Yeah.
- 12:03These are not fake deaths. So that's not flying on TV.
- 12:07And then Shadow Man says that he's been planning this for two
- 12:10years, which, honestly, like, this is an elaborate murder plot
- 12:14for only two years worth of planning.
- 12:16Yeah, it's really bad. How many seasons of Are you
- 12:20scared? Has there been that enough
- 12:22people are like I'm applying to this?
- 12:24Yeah, I know. I don't.
- 12:25It doesn't make any fucking sense when you think about.
- 12:28It I think that Are You scared exists in the same future as the
- 12:32future they go to in Hot dub time machine too.
- 12:34Like that's what you watch when Choosy Doozy isn't.
- 12:37Oh, yeah, You know, it would actually fit in that lineup of
- 12:41programming, right? Yeah.
- 12:42Perfectly like you watch Choosy Doozy and then like half an hour
- 12:46later when it was like adult TV time.
- 12:49Are you scared? I'm.
- 12:49Sorry, the only things that Adam Scott is like, yeah, you know,
- 12:51mostly like people like to watch like children die and stuff like
- 12:54that, you know? Building explosion.
- 12:57Abandoned baby. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:59You know what, it fits in perfectly.
- 13:01Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:02I mean other than that, like I I also feel like it like it tried
- 13:07to be saw. It really.
- 13:08Did it. It had other things going for it
- 13:12and it didn't lean into any of the things that it could have
- 13:15been differently. And that's it drives me
- 13:17absolutely crazy because like, you had this potential here with
- 13:20the premise, the setup and everything.
- 13:22You could have had an interesting movie, but you
- 13:26wanted to be saw too badly and then you abandoned all that
- 13:29stuff for that. They abandoned all of the
- 13:31characters in this. Yeah, like Laura, I don't
- 13:36understand what her game was. We don't actually ever find out
- 13:39what really happened to her. The cops die for no reason.
- 13:47Yeah, man, I don't know. And I mean this.
- 13:50This is not. Also this is a well known game
- 13:53show, well enough that multiple people are applying for it but
- 13:57also the SWAT team is annoyed at the detective like baby.
- 14:01Cry wolf, Mr. Cry Wolf over here, but.
- 14:03It's also not crying wolf like you guys found the body.
- 14:06Yeah, I mean, this could very well be an active, like, crime
- 14:09scene. Like maybe there is a dangerous
- 14:11person in here. People have died here.
- 14:12Like, I need backup, You know what I mean?
- 14:14Yeah, it's not that outlandish. You're like a motherfucker cried
- 14:17wolf over here again. That's what they say to him.
- 14:19Like you, cried wolf. Yeah, they, yeah, they keep
- 14:21saying that he cried wolf as he's like, all right, we need to
- 14:25get like CSI in here to, you know, tape off this murder
- 14:29scene. Man, I think this is just a this
- 14:33isn't Sawville, this is Bladeville or Knife Phil.
- 14:37This. Don't like that?
- 14:38Yeah. You know, like where the cops
- 14:39don't really give a shit anymore.
- 14:41They're just. Jaded at this point.
- 14:42This is this is where cops that couldn't hack it in Sawville.
- 14:46This is the sister city in Sawville.
- 14:48Yeah. OK, what's your bad?
- 14:52Oh no, I thought I was just chiming in with you the whole
- 14:54way with that because yeah, what's your ugly?
- 14:58The fake effects that we have here, we get some really, really
- 15:03bad explosions and fake blood and stuff like that and fire.
- 15:09Are you telling me that you didn't like the Ms. Paint effect
- 15:13of a drill going into Soren Bowie, one time contributor to
- 15:17cracked.com. Forehead.
- 15:19Say what? You know this person.
- 15:21Yes, I was like, why does this name sound so familiar?
- 15:23And then I pulled him up on IMDb.
- 15:25Yeah, he used to be a pretty regular guest contributor to
- 15:27crack.com. Like a rider.
- 15:30I'm surprised you actually remember that.
- 15:32There was one time where like I would regularly check
- 15:35crack.com's like feed to see what have been posted that day.
- 15:39It's not so great anymore, but. What's your ugly?
- 15:46I guess just the like the weird way they talk about the domestic
- 15:52violence situation. With Jenny and.
- 15:55Her mom and the shadow man. Yeah.
- 15:57Like I just. I don't know.
- 16:03I don't even fully they they didn't give us enough time to
- 16:07unpack that. Yeah.
- 16:08Like, they never actually even fully said they tiptoed around
- 16:12it. Yeah.
- 16:12And like, you're doing a movie where you're like burning
- 16:14people's faces off and exploding them, like.
- 16:17We can touch on some. Yeah, just say, hey, you beat
- 16:20the shit out of me and it was either one day going to be like
- 16:23you killing me or us killing you.
- 16:25Like, I don't know, it was just. It's weird.
- 16:30Yeah. Yeah, it's an important topic
- 16:33and I feel like dancing around it.
- 16:34They weren't doing much with it. Yeah.
- 16:37But again, this movie was all trap bot.
- 16:40Yeah, exactly. Yeah, sort of.
- 16:44All right, so absurd's. Absurd.
- 16:47OK, so one of the things is the store where the guy got the
- 16:51glass from and it also acts as like a specialty drill store
- 16:56where you can special order drills.
- 16:58But also the guy just like fucking gave him the address and
- 17:00all of his personal information he's.
- 17:03Thinking about this shit criminal.
- 17:05He like leaves the shit behind. Like I, I know that's a thing in
- 17:08SAW, but like John Kramer was smart enough to make it non
- 17:11traceable and he gave some aliases and shit and this guy's
- 17:15like, here's my home address, here is my legal name, Social
- 17:18Security number, all that shit. It's just like, it's so bad.
- 17:22It's like he wanted to be caught.
- 17:25I love that the specialty shop don't exactly know what they
- 17:29specialize in because it seems to both be acrylic bases that
- 17:35can withhold chemicals without burning and also support an
- 17:42electrical system running underneath it.
- 17:44And they can also tie drills to little like Lego race car
- 17:52tracks. It's a very race car tracks.
- 17:54It's a very niche business. Yeah, yeah, they have a very
- 17:57specific. Client.
- 17:58Maybe that's why he felt comfortable giving out his name
- 18:01and address because he was like, I'm keeping this guy in
- 18:03business. Yeah, you know what?
- 18:04He's probably the only. Customer yeah, like that guy
- 18:08actually, it's not a business. He's just the accomplice.
- 18:10But the cop, like, wannabe Wahlberg came in and he just
- 18:15assumed this guy was like a businessman.
- 18:17And he goes, yeah. That guy does wannabe Wahlberg.
- 18:22Business. The only other episode thing I
- 18:25have is when you again think about the story this guy.
- 18:31So you're telling me this guy created this nationally loved
- 18:34game show just to get revenge on his daughter?
- 18:37Yeah. And that's like the build up to
- 18:40it. It's like the trapper there and
- 18:41get her there knowing that one day she will 100% send in an
- 18:47audition tape. Yeah.
- 18:48And on top of that, like she makes again, lie better about
- 18:54what you're afraid of. And she's like, I'm afraid
- 18:57somebody will discover my secret.
- 18:58How's that going to be used against her if she doesn't say
- 19:00what her secret is? That really only works if the
- 19:03man in charge of the game, the shadow man, knows what her
- 19:06secret is already. Because I.
- 19:08Guess so. Totally me.
- 19:09Like yeah, I'm the secret for sure.
- 19:11And then she's like, no, it's not.
- 19:12She's like, no, I just peed my pants at Jennifer's sleepover.
- 19:14It's really embarrassing. Yeah.
- 19:16She's like oh shit, OK, what's your absurd?
- 19:21Yeah, no, I was gonna say that the man with the specialty
- 19:24orders, like just so fucking casual about it.
- 19:27And I I. I don't know man, this movie is
- 19:33just so fucking weird. I also like I have so any
- 19:36questions about how that drill trap worked because those drills
- 19:41didn't seem like stable enough on the tracks they were on like
- 19:45to get the right kind of torque to get into through a skull.
- 19:49Also why did they have the little light things around their
- 19:52heads? I don't.
- 19:53Know, I thought it was going to be like shocking them, but no,
- 19:55it's just like, I don't know, it looks cool, you know, just like
- 19:57some flair, yeah. Yeah, I what was and what was
- 20:02Laura's game? Which one?
- 20:04What? What happened?
- 20:05She's afraid of germs. Yeah.
- 20:07And she walks into a room, there's an empty container and a
- 20:11container full of rats. And then he says the human body
- 20:15has 12 pints of blood. Weird.
- 20:17John Kramer says 10. And then she's just all of a
- 20:23sudden bleeding out from a rat. I don't, I don't know what she
- 20:27was meant to be doing. I don't know, The only thing I
- 20:30really noticed is like I was walking in there and the guy had
- 20:32like a family, one of those like fly traps over the jars was
- 20:35like, wow, this guy like why did he do that?
- 20:37Like, don't you want it to be extra disgusting and have like
- 20:39flies swarming the place? You know, and.
- 20:41Also like the what was his name? Jason.
- 20:48Jason, the first guy who does his trap when they're all in
- 20:51there. He's afraid of having surgery
- 20:54performed while he's awake, so he's got to use the anaesthesia
- 20:59to try and cut himself open. But he's got the anaesthesia so
- 21:03he doesn't have to feel it. But if he has too much, he'll
- 21:06fall asleep and then he won't feel it.
- 21:08Yeah, I'm so confused by what the main point was with this.
- 21:13I mean, realistically, that one right there, like saw to that
- 21:15scene where the guy's got a key in his eye, Great going to do
- 21:18that. Guy's going to cut himself open
- 21:20and he's going to have to do anaesthesia.
- 21:22It's gonna be gnarly. One minute, do it.
- 21:26I really don't. I don't, I don't.
- 21:31I just. This movie is you.
- 21:34You go, you're sick one day and you get on your couch and like,
- 21:37I need me a comfort movie. So I'm going to pop in, Saw saw
- 21:41two, saw two, and I accidentally drank a little bit too much
- 21:47cough syrup and now what the fuck am I watching?
- 21:49Yeah, that feels accurate. Yeah, you're watching Saw Two,
- 21:52but in your mind it's all this other weird shit that's
- 21:55happening. Yeah, and you're like drifting
- 21:56in and out of sleep also, and things are a little bit weird.
- 22:00And then you're like, oh man, I've got a great idea for a
- 22:02movie and you're basically just writing down what you think
- 22:04you're seeing. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 22:07That's how you get this movie. Yeah.
- 22:09OK. So what would you read it?
- 22:15I'd give it 4 1/2, four and a half.
- 22:17Yeah, it's not. I didn't hate watching it, but
- 22:21like, it's just I it's one of those movies where, like, I just
- 22:24see its weaknesses and they're so glaring, you know what I
- 22:27mean? I think if it tried to set
- 22:29itself apart from saw a little bit more, or lean a little bit
- 22:33harder into the sawness of it, I don't know.
- 22:37A I like it. I'm giving it a six.
- 22:42OK, I don't think it's listen and no hate to the people that
- 22:46made this movie. It's really hard to make a
- 22:47movie. I applaud them for doing it.
- 22:50It's kind of stupid, but in a way that just tickles my fancy
- 22:54SO. I agree with that.
- 22:55I mean, I can I'm flexible to move mine up, but like this is
- 22:59one of those bad movies is like this is a fun one to watch.
- 23:02Yeah, yeah, yeah, I had. I wasn't mad while I was
- 23:05watching it. I was confused a lot, yeah, but
- 23:07I wasn't mad. This is a perfect movie they
- 23:09just throw on and kind of like riff on.
- 23:11It. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 4 1/2 is
- 23:14like accurate objectively, but I still enjoy myself somewhat.
- 23:18Well, we have a starting average of 5.25, so now it's time for us
- 23:21to try and talk about this in a linear way.
- 23:23Oh my God. All right, here we go.
- 23:27All right, so we begin with a girl wandering down dark
- 23:31hallway. She has a collar around her neck
- 23:34a la Saw Three and I know some of these Saw movies came out
- 23:37after this movie, but I still think it's important to.
- 23:41What if saw borrow from this movie?
- 23:42Right. Good idea.
- 23:45And she's also, like, got chains behind her back.
- 23:47She's told that to get her modeling contract, because this
- 23:51is the new ANCM, she must hit first the red button and then
- 23:56the green button. The red button is through a room
- 24:00littered with broken glass on the floor, and she's barefoot,
- 24:03but she does it. She goes and does it.
- 24:04She has to hit the button with her nose because again, her
- 24:07hands are chained behind her back.
- 24:09Then she gets to the green button.
- 24:10It's in the bottom of the tank. She just go ahead and ducks her
- 24:13head in there. But that's not water, that's
- 24:16acid. Salt too, yeah.
- 24:19And yeah, she just, she does. I also, I don't know if you
- 24:23noticed this but her contract was under there and it was
- 24:25completely blank like all of the blinks were not filled in.
- 24:29I'm going to have to correct you that's saw three.
- 24:32Saw three. Oh my God, it is.
- 24:33Saw three. I'm sorry. 2 is the house spot.
- 24:35Yes, I'm so sorry. We cannot have that on this
- 24:38show. We cannot undermine our own SAW
- 24:40expertise like that. If it helps, I I am on a lot of
- 24:44medication. It's not cough syrup, but I am
- 24:48on a lot of medication. I'm going to get you a pen and
- 24:50paper right now. Oh God, great ideas.
- 24:53Yeah, this is a weird thing, though.
- 24:54I just, I don't get like, like, I mean, everything in this movie
- 24:58is like nobody can win. It's not.
- 25:00It's like that point. It's like it's that plot point
- 25:03of the waiter saw movies. Yeah, rigged against you.
- 25:06I guess it did do that before. That was saw three.
- 25:08Was it saw three? Yeah.
- 25:09But when? When did Saw Three come out?
- 25:12You know this is a very good question cuz the first saw was
- 25:15in 2003 so. What was the movie that Yeah
- 25:20fuck what was the movie that stole from Urban Legends 3?
- 25:24Urban Legends 3 did the tanning bed scene before Final
- 25:27Destination 3. So saw Saw Three came out in
- 25:312006, the same year as this. I want to know.
- 25:35I want to know, did Ellis Walker and or Andy Hurst know anybody
- 25:40that was on the crew? I think he was like getting pee
- 25:44smell like details of like how the story is unfolding.
- 25:47He's like, shit, OK, yeah, All right.
- 25:48I'll do a little bit of that here.
- 25:50Wait, acid face? Yeah, let's make it even more
- 25:52meta. He uses the same props master
- 25:55that made the props for Saw Three.
- 25:58Yeah, and that's how he threw in the prop guy in this movie.
- 26:03Perfect. Yes, there we.
- 26:04Go yeah, that's a head cannon. Yeah, I like that head cannon.
- 26:08OK, so now we are at the cops. The cops enter the warehouse.
- 26:14They find Tara. Was her name the woman that just
- 26:17said they find her corpse and. It's a skeleton at this point.
- 26:21I feel like that's important to note because it's been a while.
- 26:23Has it been a while or did the acid just melt her that much?
- 26:26The rest of her was also a skeleton.
- 26:28It wasn't just her face. OK so the detective looks around
- 26:33and then a criminal profile like pops up.
- 26:37S 4. Yep.
- 26:41Before sophomore, they did it first.
- 26:44And she introduces herself, and she's like, listen, you've been
- 26:48after this killer for at least two years.
- 26:50And he's like, yeah, but a new game is starting.
- 26:55I don't understand it though. Like a new game is starting,
- 27:00like all of the shit takes place in one, like everybody
- 27:03participates in the same building, not one person at a
- 27:06time. I don't.
- 27:06Fuck, I don't. Understand this is where we get
- 27:09the shadow man in full light so we can see all the burn marks on
- 27:12his face and we can very quickly figure out he's doing this as an
- 27:14act of revenge. Yeah, we are now greeted with
- 27:18our crew that are going to be playing the game we have Brandon
- 27:21first got wake up. He he finds, what's her name,
- 27:26Kelly Kelly. He finds Kelly.
- 27:29She's struggled to wake and there's like photos scattered on
- 27:31the ground. We'd never come back to these
- 27:33photos later. But they're like her childhood,
- 27:35Yeah, photos or something. I guess it makes sense.
- 27:38I guess it does make sense, but like, I don't know, I again, I
- 27:40think it would have just been cool to have a ta ta ta.
- 27:43Yeah, at the end. Yeah.
- 27:46Then they hear some thudding sounds and they run into another
- 27:49kid. This one's Jason.
- 27:51He's like upset because he's like, did you guys cut me?
- 27:55And they're like, what? No.
- 27:56And he's like, well are you guys cut?
- 27:58And they're like, what? No.
- 28:00And he's like, why do I have this big old bandage on me like
- 28:02I'm Sami Zayn on WWE Raw? Get my ribs.
- 28:05Broken shit. Yeah.
- 28:07I gotta let Bron Bron break my ribs some more.
- 28:11Yeah, this guy, he's kind of like, he gave me some Texas
- 28:16battle vibes. This movie was just begging for
- 28:19Texas battle, but this is the same year's final destination.
- 28:22He. Was busy he had he.
- 28:24Had all the He had the task he had wrong turn 32, wrong turn 2.
- 28:29He was having his year and. He, he was.
- 28:32Like, all right, I wish I had time for you.
- 28:34I'm scared but I don't. Maybe, maybe there's hope for.
- 28:39Are you scared too? Dude, he could.
- 28:41I would be. So happy.
- 28:43I want to meet Texas Battle at a horror convention more than like
- 28:46any other celebrity. And I know it'll never happen
- 28:48because I don't think there's a ton of people out there going
- 28:50give it up. Texas Battle.
- 28:52I think you and I are the only people that are like active.
- 28:54Fans of that, I request it every year when Adrian calls for like
- 28:59guest requests for Scare Fest. I'm like Texas Battle.
- 29:02Please. Yes.
- 29:03Give us. OK.
- 29:05So we now find two more people. This is just like finding
- 29:08people. Yeah.
- 29:09It's like, that's the whole opening of this movie.
- 29:11So we're not layering shit like this.
- 29:13This scene is finding the others.
- 29:16Yeah, and the next two people are Dylan and Sherry or Cherie.
- 29:20Cherie and they're twins. Yeah, and then they find Laura,
- 29:23who is just the weigh in on the ground, knocked out.
- 29:27She says, oh, don't worry, we'll call my mom.
- 29:29She's a lawyer. There's no cell phone in her
- 29:31bag. Just a dead rat.
- 29:33Yeah, and they don't even address that.
- 29:35And it's like, I don't think the guy planted that either.
- 29:37I think she just had a dead rat in her bag.
- 29:39Well, her cell phone was in the clear box at her game
- 29:42eventually. No.
- 29:44So maybe he did put a rat in there.
- 29:45Yeah. Maybe the rat put it there.
- 29:47Maybe so, yeah, like it's a rat tattoo a situation.
- 29:51So this is where they here welcome to.
- 29:53Are you scared? And I was like, oh shit, I did
- 29:55apply to this reality game show that's super well known and very
- 29:59obviously legal. And This is why we're just
- 30:02showing up here. OK, cool.
- 30:03Yeah, why did they not think of that?
- 30:05They're like, yeah, I don't know.
- 30:06I was just chilling in the house, smoking a blunt, drinking
- 30:09the booze, and I just woke up here one day.
- 30:13What the fuck? Smoking 40s and drinking blunts.
- 30:16Drinking blunts and smoking 40s. Yeah, as you do as.
- 30:19You do. And so they're like, well, we
- 30:22just assumed we didn't get on because we never heard back.
- 30:26And Laura's like, again, my mom's a lawyer.
- 30:28We would have had to sign consent forms.
- 30:30And then it's like, too bad. It's time for Jason to go to his
- 30:32toast. I'm kind of sad we didn't get
- 30:34like the this movie's version of the pig nap.
- 30:37I know, you know, it could have been so much more fun.
- 30:39Shadow Nap. Listen, are you scared too?
- 30:42Is 12 minutes longer, so maybe we get pig napping.
- 30:46Hell yeah. All right, man.
- 30:51OK. Yeah.
- 30:52So yeah, he's on the intercom. Yeah.
- 30:55Gives the whole spiel about the show.
- 30:57And they each have to face their own worst fear.
- 31:01And Jason is the first step. Yeah, Kelly and Brandon are
- 31:05talking as he's walking off to his place.
- 31:06And Brandon's like, man, I'm really afraid of the dark.
- 31:10What are you afraid of, Kelly? And she goes, none of your
- 31:12business. I have a dark.
- 31:15Secret. It wouldn't be a secret if I
- 31:17told you. That's what everybody says.
- 31:20That was our niece yesterday at our nephew's birthday party
- 31:24talking to one of her friends that we're like why are you
- 31:26going in that background? She's like cuz she's got a
- 31:28secret. She's got a Tommy.
- 31:30They had to be in a completely separate room from everybody
- 31:32else to do secret time kids shit.
- 31:34Yeah. So yeah, Jason goes in to a room
- 31:39and he sees his audition tape played because Shadow Man said,
- 31:42oh God, these dummies didn't even remember they applied for
- 31:44this game. Let's remind them what they're
- 31:46scared of. And he said, my biggest fear is
- 31:48to like, have surgery but not be under anaesthesia.
- 31:52So just general torture is what this dance is afraid of.
- 31:55He said be awake. I guess you can kind of be like,
- 31:59you know, anesthesia or like have like medicated or whatever
- 32:02and not feel it, but still like watch people cut you open and
- 32:05shit. See, I've had, I've had surgery
- 32:09where it's been technically a twilight sedation.
- 32:11And they're like, yeah, no, you're not actually put under
- 32:14for that. And I'm like, I am like, I get
- 32:16what you're saying. I'm not intubated, but like, I
- 32:20wasn't sitting there having a conversation with the doctor,
- 32:22you know? But you're still able to like,
- 32:24look around. They said count backwards from
- 32:29100 in intervals of seven and I got to 93 before I was asleep.
- 32:34That's too much thinking, I. Can't.
- 32:36Yeah, well, that's that's kind of the point.
- 32:41All right, so yeah, he's got all right.
- 32:44He goes in the room, He's like, all right, so First off, this is
- 32:45an explosive. Yeah, like, you know that's
- 32:48going to be. Important It's going to go off
- 32:49in one minute. Shadow Man's favorite increment
- 32:52of time is 1 minute. Yeah, sometimes he calls it 60
- 32:56seconds. It just depends on who he's
- 32:57talking to. It's crazy to give him a minute
- 33:00to do this shit right here. He has to find the key, and then
- 33:04it's exactly the same thing from sock to.
- 33:06Yeah, complete with the X-rays up on the wall.
- 33:11So he's got to cut this key out of himself.
- 33:14He's got some nitrous oxide and he's like, be careful.
- 33:17One puff will or too little will keep you awake, but unable to
- 33:22move around. Too many will just completely
- 33:24put you asleep. So don't do it so.
- 33:27Don't do it, but you have to do it as part of the game.
- 33:30But he's going to get the key out so that way he can stop the
- 33:32explosive. The main point is he tries to
- 33:34take a puff and he explodes. Yeah, that's that's really where
- 33:38we get to it it. Almost seems like there's
- 33:40correlation there. Yeah, yeah, he is the he is the
- 33:44explosive. Everybody just kind of watches
- 33:46it and they don't really react appropriately.
- 33:49Yeah, they're just like, wow. OK, so the detective and the
- 33:53special agent see the list of missing kids.
- 33:57Again, these aren't teens. They're not turns.
- 33:59They are young adults. I don't, I don't know.
- 34:05And the special agent I was getting like the profiler from
- 34:10trap vibes from her where she's like he's got a dark past.
- 34:15Maybe he experienced something significant.
- 34:18He's trying to teach them a lesson that a merciful death is
- 34:21better than a life of. Pain.
- 34:22See, I don't understand where you get any of that from.
- 34:25The shit left behind. Like the person dipped her face
- 34:28in acid. All right, So she's.
- 34:29She should have learned her lesson here.
- 34:32Yeah. What are you talking about?
- 34:33Who's learning anything if they're just dying?
- 34:35Yeah, and how is that a merciful death?
- 34:38It's like, like make them hurt themselves and then they go on.
- 34:42But no, everything in this is like, you die.
- 34:44You don't come out of any of this.
- 34:46Again, this person was hopped up on some Nyquil watching song and
- 34:50completely misunderstood John Kramer.
- 34:53It's like, all right, there's got to be a message.
- 34:55There's got to be a reason for this.
- 34:57This person has to have a cause. John Kramer's literally there
- 35:00pointing to a sign on the wall that says treasure your life.
- 35:03And he's like, what does it mean?
- 35:07Oh God. All right.
- 35:09So Dylan and Sherry are siblings.
- 35:11They're twins. They have to do their challenge
- 35:13together because Dylan says he doesn't actually have any fears,
- 35:18and Sherry's fear is having to live her life without her twin.
- 35:23So seems like maybe this is Sherry's test, not Dylan's, but
- 35:27Dylan's the one that volunteers them to go next.
- 35:29Yeah, so they have to go and they go into the room and it's
- 35:34the set up with fucking straps and shit and.
- 35:38They have to strap themselves in.
- 35:41They are unable to unstrap themselves.
- 35:44I don't know how that works. They're also just locked in
- 35:47there. Yeah.
- 35:48I mean like they can break in eventually, but it's still.
- 35:52So they they each have like a little controller that can start
- 35:57and stop the drill coming towards their head, but when you
- 36:01stop the drill coming towards your head it starts the one on
- 36:04your twins starts coming towards them.
- 36:06They kind of like Saw X here with the little kid and the
- 36:08blood, yeah. Yeah, so basically instead of
- 36:14what would happen in a Saw movie is them not counting Saw X,
- 36:18because in Saw X they are trying to like sacrifice themselves for
- 36:20the other person. But like, if you think through
- 36:23the other Saw movies, it's like, I'm not dying for you, bitch.
- 36:25Like, no, instead they're just like, I'm going to die for you.
- 36:29No, I can't live without you. I think the one thing weird
- 36:32about this one is there's no time limit.
- 36:33Like one person has to die here. Yeah.
- 36:36Like the saw has to go into somebody or the drill has to go
- 36:38into somebody regardless. Yep, yeah.
- 36:42I mean, yeah. And they, like, have their own
- 36:43little debate back and forth, but ultimately it's Dylan that
- 36:46gets the drill to the head. Yeah, and I like how he knows
- 36:50his sister well enough. He's like just drop them out,
- 36:52drop it, drop it, drop it and eventually she does and he dies
- 36:57in incredible slow motion and bad CGI.
- 37:00Terrible. Yeah.
- 37:01Yeah. Yep.
- 37:04So the detectives are talking to the guy who made the button tank
- 37:07order. Hill Glass is the place, by the
- 37:10way. It's a glass manufacturer.
- 37:12But we do drills. We also do drills, glass
- 37:15manufacturers and specialty drills.
- 37:18He's he gives them the copy of the receipt for the specialty
- 37:22tank. And then he says, same guy
- 37:24ordered some drills on tracks and they're like, oh, do you
- 37:29have the receipt? He goes, no, but I have the
- 37:30shipping address. And they're like, yes, please.
- 37:34So Kelly goes in to try and help Sherry get Unchained from the
- 37:39chair while Brandon and Laura go looking for a way out.
- 37:44They're kind of wandering around and there's a door that's like
- 37:48suspiciously like enter through here.
- 37:51And Laura's like, I don't think we should.
- 37:53And Brandon's like, no, clearly this is a safe room.
- 37:57Yeah, there's a it's not a safe room.
- 37:59So he he goes home or he goes through and he sees his home
- 38:05video and he says he's scared of the dark and his test is he has
- 38:10to go downstairs and he has to find the fire door.
- 38:12Guess how long he has? One minute he gets down there,
- 38:17this one actually a pretty cool trap because he can turn a light
- 38:21on. But it's blinding.
- 38:22Light. But it's blinding light.
- 38:23It is burning him. Yeah.
- 38:24It's again Saw X Yeah. Did this person see the future?
- 38:29Maybe saw X stole from? Maybe.
- 38:31You know, we need to look for inspiration.
- 38:34Dear Josh. Yeah, he would never admit.
- 38:36That. Yeah, it is cool.
- 38:39Like, like he shines the light at one point and then like, he
- 38:43can kind of see it, but there's like, shotguns rigged all around
- 38:45the room pointed right at him. Yeah, he can just like hit the
- 38:48deck and be totally fine, but he doesn't think about that part.
- 38:52Yeah, so he he does end up like tripping the tripwire and gets
- 38:57shot. It's lit the fuck up.
- 38:59Yeah, 6 shotguns. This again this.
- 39:02I think this is an effective trap.
- 39:04I like it. Does he die TBD?
- 39:07TBD. Yeah, that tea is gonna be beed.
- 39:12So the detectives are at the apartment.
- 39:14It's just an actual apartment. It's not like it's not an empty
- 39:18place that suspicious packages can be shipped to.
- 39:21This is where Shadow Man lives. Where?
- 39:22He lives and his neighbor comes out and say, oh, he doesn't talk
- 39:25to people. He doesn't talk to people, he's
- 39:27always watching TV. He's a hooligan fucker.
- 39:31Like what? How do you even know that?
- 39:33Like he doesn't communicate to you.
- 39:35How do you know his doings? Yeah, and he's got like a bunch
- 39:38of newspapers. Pinned all over.
- 39:40Yeah, of his own attempted murder.
- 39:42It's. Like fires?
- 39:43Yeah, fire shit. Yeah, so Kelly and Cherie start
- 39:48destroying the cameras because they're like, well, if they
- 39:51don't have a show to watch, this is, I mean, this is Katniss
- 39:56Everdeen coded. You know, like.
- 39:59Well, they're going to have to let us win if they want us to.
- 40:03If they want there to be a game show.
- 40:04Yeah, except instead he's like you Dum Dums.
- 40:08I'm right in the building. I'm just going to come stop you.
- 40:11Yeah, yeah, in God, what the fuck happens here?
- 40:16So Cherie accidentally stabs Brandon as he walks through a
- 40:21door while they're in the middle of all of their destroying and
- 40:24thinking that the shadow man's coming for them so he.
- 40:27Lived. He lived through like 6 shotguns
- 40:29blasts. Yeah, he lived through multiple
- 40:31shotgun blasts, but he died from like a broom handle to the
- 40:34chest. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:36Then the man comes in here and drags war away.
- 40:40Yes, and they see what happens to her through video, and maybe
- 40:44it made more sense in their live airing version.
- 40:47But to us, we just see that she's got a box with a cell
- 40:52phone and a box with rats. Her greatest fear is germs, and
- 40:57she has 12 pints of blood. We're apparently supposed to
- 41:02understand what all. This means put the pieces
- 41:05together, people. It's so clear.
- 41:07If somebody has an idea of what this game is supposed to be,
- 41:09please tell us. Or please tell us your wildest
- 41:12theory of what you want the game to be.
- 41:14I. Think this guy was just like,
- 41:15phoning in at this point. Yeah, I've got the girl that I
- 41:18really want. Like I get the person I really
- 41:19care about here. Whatever germs.
- 41:21Here's some. Fucking bullshit.
- 41:23Blood 12 Hines. I had to, yeah.
- 41:24Don't Fact Check me. Don't Fact Check me.
- 41:28And this will be in cell 5 S writers.
- 41:31You're welcome. Yeah.
- 41:33Dunstan and Melton. Yeah.
- 41:36So that's. I don't know, that's just what's
- 41:39happening. Sherry is trying to figure out
- 41:42how she can go save Laura while Kelly is looking for the shadow
- 41:46man. Yeah.
- 41:46And she? She finds the monitor and it's
- 41:49empty, so she goes in there to do some snooping.
- 41:52And she sees him through the camera, sneaking out behind
- 41:55Cherie, and he kills her. And so she ties the door shut
- 41:59with a chain, wraps a chain around the door knob.
- 42:05So we are now outside back at the apartment.
- 42:07The detectives had seen that there were a lot of every single
- 42:11tool was labeled Harris Plant. Yeah.
- 42:14So they're like, OK, I guess we need to go to Harris Plant.
- 42:16And that's where they pull up at and that's where everything is
- 42:18taking place. I like.
- 42:19To imagine that the shadow man is like, really, really
- 42:22forgetful, possibly as a result of his attempted murder.
- 42:26So he has to like label everything and keep really good
- 42:28notes. But the unfortunate side effect
- 42:30is that it makes him a really bad tool.
- 42:32Yeah, he's like super traceable. Yeah.
- 42:35So they're like, all right, we need to call backup.
- 42:37And then the detective Jay is like, no, I'm the guy that cried
- 42:41wolf. They won't show up for this
- 42:42shit. Like it's a fucking active crime
- 42:44scene, man. He's like, no, they can't do
- 42:46that. So he like barges in while the
- 42:49profiler sticks behind just to like wait for backup to arrive.
- 42:53And he comes through the elevator.
- 42:55Kelly hears the elevator running.
- 42:57So she's like, cool, I'm going to go because surely this is
- 42:59somebody saving the day and not the shadow man.
- 43:02And she's actually correct. Except the elevator.
- 43:04The urban's on both sides, so the shadow man sneaks in and
- 43:06drops his head off now. That was the best effect that
- 43:09they did. Yeah, that was really good.
- 43:11I was like, honestly, it caught me so off guard how well done
- 43:14that was. I was like, shocked.
- 43:16I was like, Oh my God, they did it.
- 43:18Like I'd cheered for them a little bit right there.
- 43:21So he tells Kelly it's time to face her worst fear.
- 43:25She goes into a room and her mom is tied up and she says we
- 43:29deserve this again. And I'm not sitting here being
- 43:35an advocate for vigilante justice.
- 43:37I'm saying they didn't kill this man for funsies.
- 43:40Yeah, they're like, they're like, you did everything you
- 43:43could, Mom. You tried to call the cops.
- 43:44You'd put it in a restraining order.
- 43:46You did everything you could. And then you just got pieced
- 43:48together like Kelly's, like I'm gonna light him on fire.
- 43:51It was an act of desperation and self-defense.
- 43:53Battered woman syndrome. Like, there's a whole lot of
- 43:55things we could talk about with this, and also the unfortunate
- 44:00reality that there are plenty of domestic abuse victims who will
- 44:04still feel bad for the person that has abused them.
- 44:07Yeah. Yeah, it's it's a they decided
- 44:11to pick a very tricky situation for their motivation.
- 44:15In this, yeah. But.
- 44:19If it had been like, we killed him through his money, like,
- 44:21then I'd be like, OK, yeah. So I understand, like why you
- 44:25feel, you know, this type of like, I'm not saying that there
- 44:29wouldn't be guilt for them in this situation.
- 44:32I just feel like, like you said, there's no nuance with how
- 44:34they're talking about it. Yeah, no, it's just really like
- 44:38very basic. So like, OK, this is where the
- 44:41guy, this is his real lesson that he's wanting them to learn.
- 44:44In order to get what you want, you have to suffer.
- 44:47Yeah, which is, I'm just going to say it, the the profiler from
- 44:51the FBI was wrong. Totally wrong.
- 44:53Yeah, yeah. And also, like, suffer.
- 44:55No, like die. Nobody's suffering in the movie.
- 44:59They're just dying. There's no lessons being learned
- 45:02if there's if you're not alive, like alive long enough to learn
- 45:05it, you know, whatever. She's responsible for his burns.
- 45:08Yeah. And she has 3 minutes to
- 45:10complete her game. Yeah.
- 45:11He's like, you know, nepotism. Suffering.
- 45:15Suffering, suffering, suffering. You're right.
- 45:17The rice is on. Yeah, So like, they have like,
- 45:20this. I don't fully understand what's
- 45:21happening here. He's got it rigged up with,
- 45:23like, sparks and, like, gasoline.
- 45:24It's like, all right, Like you got to do some shit.
- 45:26And if you don't do that shit, then you're going to catch on
- 45:29fire. I have no idea what he's
- 45:31supposed to or what they're supposed to do.
- 45:33Yeah, and we don't actually find out what they end up doing
- 45:35because she knocks down the cameras again and he's like, no,
- 45:38I want to watch this. So he goes down there.
- 45:40Oh, guess what? They've split each other up and
- 45:43they're ready to attack. And that's what happened.
- 45:47She starts another fire after knocking him down so that way he
- 45:51is burned again. Yeah, they yeah.
- 45:53So the. Oh and also this whole time we
- 45:57have this movie's version of slow ass motherfucking Jeff with
- 45:59the profiler because like for like 10 minutes we just see
- 46:02shots of her just like roaming the roof of the building.
- 46:05Parkour while people are dying. Yeah, like she's doing
- 46:09everything she can to not enter this building.
- 46:11She's going everywhere around it, above it and under it.
- 46:14But like. She never goes in the building
- 46:17until the next morning when the teams are there for cleanup and
- 46:20they found six bodies. Should be 7.
- 46:24And they're like, well, there is a way to get to the sewer from
- 46:27inside of this building. And of course, all of this
- 46:29information is immediately simultaneously available on the
- 46:33news that Kelly is watching from her apartment, which then saw
- 46:36three switches to security camera footage of the inside of
- 46:40her apartment and shadow man's there.
- 46:42That was a cool ending. I'll give him credit there.
- 46:44I like that. Yeah, yeah.
- 46:46I wish you had more burns. You should have burned more,
- 46:49right? You should this fucking movie,
- 46:54man I'll. Honestly I think of this movie
- 46:58as like a first draft of a really fun concept man.
- 47:02This is like the first edition of AI.
- 47:04Like write a song, movie. No, please don't give people
- 47:07ideas on what to do with SAW. No, that's.
- 47:10Or with AII mean yeah. Please do not do that.
- 47:13I like this. This does have the human element
- 47:15of like, I'm trying. I fucking tried, people.
- 47:18I I'm seeing glimpses of real strong potential and I'd again I
- 47:23had fun watching this. I have so many questions and
- 47:27none of them are answered but it's OK hey.
- 47:31You're in luck, movie. That's my kind of movie right
- 47:33there. I'm keeping it at a six man.
- 47:35I'll bump it to A5. All right.
- 47:36Yeah, whatever, man. It's number to 5.5.
- 47:41Yeah, OK. That's a way better.
- 47:42What was it before 3? 5.25.
- 47:44No, I mean the. IMDb is 3.1.
- 47:47Three. Yeah.
- 47:47OK. Wow.
- 47:48Yeah, huge leap. Yeah.
- 47:50And I was honestly kind of surprised that it was that low
- 47:52of a square. I honestly am too.
- 47:54Like it's bad, but it's not that bad, you know what I mean?
- 47:57Who did you relate to? Well, tough bye.
- 48:09I think that I would relate to, I guess Brandon on the closest
- 48:13thing with like a fear that I would relate to here is like
- 48:15afraid of the dark, which I'm not like especially afraid of
- 48:18the dark or anything, but like, you know, I was whenever I was a
- 48:22kid big time. I would say Brandon, but that's
- 48:26because I actually am afraid of the dark, OK.
- 48:28So yeah, that's true. We have like Night Lights and
- 48:31shit all over the South. Because listen, it's safety.
- 48:34Yeah, OK. What was Scout's favorite part?
- 48:40Oh man, she's got so much material here to pick from, will
- 48:44be impossible for me to be alright.
- 48:50I think Scout's favorite part was it was probably the part
- 48:57where like the woman in the beginning dipped her face in an
- 49:00acid. No, she was.
- 49:02No, she probably liked the part at the end with the burn being
- 49:06locked in the room with the fire because she likes being warm.
- 49:09Obviously her favorite part was Jason's test because all she
- 49:13wants to do all day is just lay there and sleep.
- 49:19Yeah, sure. What is that?
- 49:23What do you hope from the sequel?
- 49:25That we're definitely going to watch at some point.
- 49:27I hope that they actually have a game show.
- 49:31Yes. I think where I would like for
- 49:33it to be is like, I don't know, Obviously the show is off the
- 49:36air now that this guy is like he got his daughter, so.
- 49:39So this becomes a new sensation, right?
- 49:42And some big company actually develops this game.
- 49:47Yeah, yeah. But Shadow Man ends up somehow
- 49:51managing to work for it, so he's like doing like actual killings.
- 49:54No, I and. They're not planning for it.
- 49:56I wanted to actually be established as like a safe one.
- 49:58Like, OK, we know in the old one people were really dying.
- 50:01And I we heard, we heard you guys, we heard you people and we
- 50:05know you guys don't want to die anymore.
- 50:06So we're sorry for this. Or here's the safer.
- 50:08We're sorry. Yeah, but in this one right
- 50:11here, he's like, he ends up doing that.
- 50:14I don't know. Could be the daughter.
- 50:16Maybe she's like, see, that was one thing that I was expecting.
- 50:19I expected her to be an Amanda. OK, like an accomplice.
- 50:24I thought that that's what it was gonna be at the end of the
- 50:26movie, but no, she ended up actually being against them.
- 50:31But yeah, I thought that we were gonna get an Amanda.
- 50:33I thought if this is trying to be soft, get somebody on the
- 50:36inside because that's like the soft thing you.
- 50:37Know yeah you know what actually that really makes a lot of sense
- 50:41because I kind of had a thought too where I was like oh she must
- 50:43be in on the game yeah but actually I thought that about
- 50:46Laura at first yeah she she. Was.
- 50:48With her too. Yeah.
- 50:49Yeah. But OK, I I can dig that.
- 50:53OK, all right, what do we do on 2B sound?
- 50:57I can't remember. I suck at remembering this shit.
- 51:00It's because we only do it once. A.
- 51:01Month so yeah I think now I do reviews from IMDb OK so let me
- 51:08go ahead and pull those up now we always pull a good and a bad
- 51:13so that way we kind of get a balance of different opinions
- 51:19here's a good review this one's an 8 out of 10 you're.
- 51:23Welcome. It's not saw, it's better.
- 51:26Whoa, OK. Are you scared Reviewed by
- 51:31William Newman, the film has promised to be the two Saw films
- 51:36in Game wise, however, the film is much more clever.
- 51:38The film is adventurous, frightening and.
- 51:44Who the fuck is this person? The film's opening scene left me
- 51:48to think after seeing Saw three that it was Saw Four since the
- 51:51since most horror films get really brutal after the third
- 51:54film. The first victim dies in a way.
- 51:57Of course calf means kick ass. Oh, there we.
- 51:59Go. Oh, OK.
- 52:02Now the next of. Course you should lead off with
- 52:06that shit man. Not like, OK, sorry.
- 52:09Go ahead now the next scene made me like the film even more.
- 52:12Now the film has its own characters like Saul did.
- 52:14The detectives knows the killers works and wants to end it after
- 52:18he's done killing people. Now for the main game in the
- 52:21film gets really sets the ABS. In the film the victims have
- 52:25character. The brother and the sister are
- 52:27the main game that gets me. They have to choose who will
- 52:29live and who will die. The sister in the manner is the
- 52:32one to live and her and her brother were supposed to be
- 52:35twins and she had to watch him die with a drill to his
- 52:37forehead. That scene itself is rated .4
- 52:40out of .5. Who the fuck is this person?
- 52:48William Newman this. Is the only type of person that
- 52:50would get this much enjoyment out of this movie.
- 52:53Well they only have a .5 rating system, so. .7 out .3 right
- 52:59here. Like that scene was probably
- 53:02like a 2. Like I don't fucking know.
- 53:05The man that is afraid of the dark has to live or die in a
- 53:08more frightening way. Guns are all around you and it's
- 53:10like wow man, I can't say the dark one hair triggered to go.
- 53:15I like this guy's way of reviewing.
- 53:17I am feeling it William. The film scenes and traps are
- 53:22very well entertaining. Some of the dusts are chased
- 53:25into the film but still watchful.
- 53:27The film's climax is very interesting.
- 53:29On to whom is the cause of it all.
- 53:31The film is much more realistic than Saw so the Saw fans can
- 53:34slush it. The film is very entertaining
- 53:36and very adventurous. William Newman rates this film
- 53:39made out of 10 with saying it has more to offer than.
- 53:41Saw this is definitely good to speak to the third person.
- 53:45I I'm not mad about it. I want to read more of Lillian
- 53:48Newman's reviews. I want I wish you could look up
- 53:52IMDb people's profiles. I want to know like.
- 53:55Anytime. Every review.
- 53:56If there's ever like a review for him in a movie we cover, I
- 53:59got to get that shit. That was that was so amazing
- 54:02right there. OK, I'm.
- 54:06Crying. 3 out of 10 cheap saw imitation.
- 54:11William M Newman, he like writes to to ready on a scale of like
- 54:20$10 a hundred. I listen that man just liked the
- 54:26movie for what it was. I'm not bad that's.
- 54:29I'm happy for him, honestly. That was great.
- 54:34Cheap saw imitation Are you scared?
- 54:36As a chief imitation of saw, madman keeps a bunch of teens
- 54:40teens. Turns.
- 54:41Teens who apply for reality TV contest.
- 54:44Turns out the show was way too real for everyone as they all
- 54:47start dying in contests where there's no way to win and there
- 54:49is an audience of one. Everything moves pretty fast,
- 54:52which is nice when the effects and dialogue are well below
- 54:54average. Lighting was terrible, camera
- 54:56work was fine, screenplay was okay, directing was marginal,
- 54:58and editing was good. Some choice at the end made it a
- 55:02little more interesting. One thing I noticed is that I
- 55:04didn't feel sorry for the characters when they died
- 55:06because they were all pretty annoying.
- 55:07Even the police and FBI characters didn't generate any
- 55:10real sympathy. Yeah.
- 55:12I mean, they were all very generic.
- 55:14They didn't really have much going.
- 55:16Yeah, we didn't get to know any of them, honestly.
- 55:18Yeah, they were just there. They were just there being not
- 55:22Donnie Wahlberg. Trying to be but can't.
- 55:25Not everyone can be Donnie Wahlberg.
- 55:27Nobody. Nobody but Donnie, Yeah.
- 55:30Yeah, so I don't know if you like the Saw movies because
- 55:35you're capable of not overthinking them, then I think
- 55:38you would enjoy this movie. Yeah, if you're just like a fan
- 55:40of that kind of like sub genre that saw kind of birth with that
- 55:45right there with the, you know, like the game.
- 55:47Torture, yeah. Yeah, You know, I think it
- 55:51works. I don't know.
- 55:52I mean, like, objectively speaking, it's not a great
- 55:54movie, but I enjoy it because like bad fun movies, like movies
- 55:58that have like, I like seeing, like Ernest, like trying, you
- 56:02know what I mean? This is somebody with a camera
- 56:06and a dream and maybe a bottle of Nyquil.
- 56:09Yeah, like and also. And I like it.
- 56:11I I don't really care if a movie is like ripping off another
- 56:16movie. That's how I've gotten so many
- 56:17of my favorite movies. I mean, Friday the 13th is a
- 56:19fucking Halloween RIP off. Yeah.
- 56:21Like, through and through. That was what they were doing.
- 56:23Yeah, so like, you know, it's it is what it is.
- 56:26I really don't give a shit about that.
- 56:28Like you can still make a good movie.
- 56:30And I'll, I'll be, I'll be there for.
- 56:32It and I part of the reason I want to watch the second one for
- 56:34this is because writing these types of movies you have to not
- 56:37be afraid to do what seem like over the top things.
- 56:40Yeah, because that's what makes these movies like go.
- 56:43Oh, like, yeah, I'm going to start using that.
- 56:48Yeah. Like did this movie make you go?
- 56:52Yeah, so. To be or not to be?
- 56:55That is the trailer question. Yes, I think it's pretty clear
- 56:58from what we just said. Yeah, we say.
- 57:00Yeah, go for it. Go for it.
- 57:02It's an hour and 19 minutes. It's not a huge time sack and
- 57:06honestly it feels faster than that.
- 57:07Yeah, it really does. Yeah.
- 57:09OK, that's it for our to be or not to be this month.
- 57:13Catch us on Thursday with Pearl. That'll be out, you know, normal
- 57:19time, unless you're a budget to your patron, in which case it'll
- 57:21be out whenever we're done editing it on the Patreon.
- 57:25We want to go ahead and thank those bubbies.
- 57:27Over on the Patreon, we've got Joe Freakatron, as is his name,
- 57:30Amber, Michael, Lord Zombie, Tyler, Chad, Johnny and Jason.
- 57:34Yeah. That's it.
- 57:36Yay. Thank you guys so much for being
- 57:37patrons. We really appreciate the support
