- 0:04Speaker 1: On May 22nd, 2019.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Police in Sturgis, Michigan listened to an anonymous 911 caller
- 0:26Speaker 2: read them an address. Inside this home, the caller explained,
- 0:30Speaker 2: they would find the missing 42-year-old Kelly Jean Warner Miller.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Little did authorities know, that single phone call would launch
- 0:38Speaker 2: the most shocking investigation of their careers, one that required
- 0:41Speaker 2: uncovering secret after haunting secret, all buried within an exceptionally
- 0:46Speaker 2: twisted and sadistic mind. The following footage has never been
- 0:51Speaker 2: seen before. When Kelly Jean, known as KJ, went missing
- 0:56Speaker 2: in April 2019, no red flags went up, there were
- 1:00Speaker 2: no frantic phone calls to 911, and no weary search parties.
- 1:04Speaker 2: But it wasn't because KJ wasn't loved. The trouble was
- 1:08Speaker 2: that her lifestyle was transient. She was estranged from her
- 1:11Speaker 2: family and had untreated mental health struggles. This meant that
- 1:15Speaker 2: sometimes long periods of absence were the norm for KJ. So,
- 1:19Speaker 2: when police received a 911 call sending them to an
- 1:22Speaker 2: address to look for her, and officers found themselves standing
- 1:26Speaker 2: on the doorstep of an ordinary-looking apartment, it was hard
- 1:29Speaker 2: to believe the call was even real. After all, this
- 1:32Speaker 2: wasn't the kind of thing one saw in the small
- 1:35Speaker 2: town of Sturgis, Michigan. But there was only one way
- 1:38Speaker 2: to find out.
- 1:40Speaker 3: She said, inside on the left.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Oh, she's right. Hi, Wade.
- 1:57Speaker 5: Hey, Wade.
- 1:58Speaker 4: How you doing, man? Hey, how you doing? Doing good.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I remember you from the Speedway.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 6: What are you up to now?
- 2:08Speaker 2: Not much. Answering the door is 35-year-old Wade Allen.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Um, we're looking for Kimberly.
- 2:16Speaker 5: Kelly?
- 2:16Speaker 4: Or Kelly. You know Kelly? Kimberly or Kelly. From the shelter, maybe? KJ? KJ? Yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 2: At first, Wade seems confused, and for good reason. It's
- 2:31Speaker 2: close to midnight, and he's been startled awake by several
- 2:34Speaker 2: armed officers knocking on his door. Wade recently came to
- 2:37Speaker 2: live in this apartment after a period of homelessness, and
- 2:40Speaker 2: KJ was an acquaintance from a shelter he frequented in Kalamazoo.
- 2:44Speaker 7: Oh, I don't know.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I haven't heard from that person in some months. Do
- 2:50Speaker 4: you know her?
- 2:50Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:51Speaker 9: I haven't heard from her in a while.
- 2:53Speaker 4: The last time I've seen her is a couple months.
- 2:58Speaker 4: The last I heard, she's in Kalamazoo. I think the
- 3:01Speaker 4: best way for me to help you get a hold
- 3:03Speaker 4: of her is through the shelter.
- 3:05Speaker 2: The eerie atmosphere is palpable. With a call like this,
- 3:09Speaker 2: officers can't simply take Wade's words as fact. They need
- 3:12Speaker 2: to confirm what, if anything, is behind his front door.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Well, we just need to talk to her. Do you
- 3:20Speaker 4: mind if we come and make sure she's not here?
- 3:25Speaker 4: I could tell you she's not. I mean, you know.
- 3:29Speaker 2: According to Wade, he and KJ had lost touch recently
- 3:32Speaker 2: after she suddenly stopped responding to his Facebook messages.
- 3:36Speaker 5: As far as here, I don't like this.
- 3:40Speaker 4: My place is a mess and I don't like this.
- 3:42Speaker 4: People come and go all the time. We don't care.
- 3:44Speaker 4: We see all sorts of. apartments and homes and... Well, um...
- 3:52Speaker 4: All we gotta do is verify she's not here and
- 3:56Speaker 4: then we can get out of here and be done
- 3:57Speaker 4: with it. I don't know. I feel it for you.
- 4:01Speaker 5: If you guys want to come by another time, just
- 4:05Speaker 5: not right now.
- 4:05Speaker 10: Let me at least have a date where I can
- 4:07Speaker 10: clean up and do things.
- 4:08Speaker 4: Okay. Well, here's the deal, Wade.
- 4:12Speaker 11: Um.
- 4:12Speaker 5: If.
- 4:14Speaker 4: We gotta get a search warrant, we will.
- 4:15Speaker 7: All right.
- 4:16Speaker 4: We don't want to go that route. I know.
- 4:18Speaker 9: Um.
- 4:19Speaker 4: That's a lot of work for all of us, including you.
- 4:22Speaker 12: So if we got to do that, we're going to
- 4:25Speaker 12: have to detain you and put you in the car
- 4:26Speaker 12: for a little while.
- 4:27Speaker 13: All right.
- 4:28Speaker 14: Until we get that search warrant.
- 4:29Speaker 4: It'll take a couple hours.
- 4:30Speaker 14: If she's in there, could you just have her come
- 4:31Speaker 14: out and say, I'm fine?
- 4:33Speaker 4: Well, she's not, though. That's the thing.
- 4:35Speaker 15: Like, I mean, I can open up and I'll say, hey, KJ, Kelly,
- 4:39Speaker 15: and there's no Kelly or KJ.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Do I have eyes to stand here looking? You can.
- 4:44Speaker 4: I mean, I don't have her here.
- 4:45Speaker 16: Okay.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Okay.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Eventually, Wade agrees to let one officer, one he's met
- 4:51Speaker 2: in the past, search his apartment.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Not much of anything. And then I got all this.
- 4:56Speaker 4: This is my bedroom. You see?
- 5:20Speaker 16: Not here.
- 5:21Speaker 4: I had her suitcase from when she was here. Just me.
- 5:27Speaker 4: And if I do have a guest, I have a bed.
- 5:29Speaker 2: As Wade guides the officers through his home, nothing in
- 5:32Speaker 2: particular is jumping out. But just as it seems the
- 5:35Speaker 2: search is coming to a close, one thing catches the
- 5:38Speaker 2: officer's eye.
- 5:39Speaker 4: I don't have anyone here.
- 5:41Speaker 7: Okay.
- 5:43Speaker 4: All right, man.
- 5:46Speaker 9: What's in the cooler?
- 5:48Speaker 4: Oh, that's for when the summer comes around. I'm going
- 5:51Speaker 4: to have parties and stuff.
- 5:52Speaker 16: All right, no problem.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Can you open that for me, and then we'll get
- 5:55Speaker 4: out of here? Well, not right now I can't. I mean,
- 6:01Speaker 4: I want to save that for later. Okay. For when
- 6:03Speaker 4: the summer gets here. But I showed you, she hasn't
- 6:08Speaker 4: been here in forever. Okay.
- 6:10Speaker 12: Why don't you just open that cooler, and we'll get
- 6:12Speaker 12: out of here.
- 6:13Speaker 2: I just want to.
- 6:14Speaker 9: Make sure anywhere that she could be hiding... He's not
- 6:17Speaker 9: going to be hiding.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Well, okay, I just need to know.
- 6:19Speaker 14: That, okay?
- 6:20Speaker 4: No, I mean, I can help you out there, but
- 6:24Speaker 4: I've shown you everything. Okay.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Wade seems eager to end the search and get back
- 6:29Speaker 2: to bed, but his strangely evasive behavior is only working
- 6:33Speaker 2: against him.
- 6:34Speaker 4: You want to open that cooler for me?
- 6:36Speaker 5: Well.
- 6:37Speaker 9: Can you open the fridge for me?
- 6:38Speaker 4: Make sure she's not hiding in there.
- 6:40Speaker 11: There's no point in the fridge either.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I mean, it's just food and stuff.
- 6:44Speaker 9: I understand.
- 6:46Speaker 4: All right, why don't you throw your shoes on real quick? Well,
- 6:51Speaker 4: I helped you out.
- 6:52Speaker 9: You did partially, but do you have shoes you can
- 6:55Speaker 9: throw on real quick?
- 6:56Speaker 4: A little bit, but here, I'll help you out. Okay,
- 7:00Speaker 4: I'll help you out.
- 7:01Speaker 17: Go on out.
- 7:03Speaker 4: You're detained right now, okay? Go on out.
- 7:05Speaker 7: I'm detained?
- 7:06Speaker 9: You're detained.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Walk out there. Okay.
- 7:08Speaker 2: As the walls seem to close in on Wade, he's
- 7:10Speaker 2: forced to make a decision. He can stick to his
- 7:12Speaker 2: guns or prove to the police that they really have
- 7:15Speaker 2: nothing to worry about.
- 7:16Speaker 14: I said you're not going to get them on now.
- 7:18Speaker 9: I'm giving you the opportunity to walk out there.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Do it now. You got anything illegal on you? No,
- 7:23Speaker 4: I don't. Okay, put your hands behind your back. You
- 7:26Speaker 4: got a knife or anything like that? No. Okay, why
- 7:28Speaker 4: don't you turn around against the wall real slowly. Being
- 7:31Speaker 4: the 10, I'm just.
- 7:35Speaker 9: I just want the opportunity to look the rest of
- 7:36Speaker 9: the way through the apartment, okay?
- 7:38Speaker 4: Well, I showed you everything. Here, let me... Do you
- 7:42Speaker 4: want to show me?
- 7:43Speaker 10: I will.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I showed you everything. Why don't you walk back in
- 7:46Speaker 4: there and show me then? But I did. Let me see.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Can I look in that fridge?
- 7:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Okay. It's something... Okay. I see she's not in there.
- 8:01Speaker 4: But she wouldn't be in the fridge. I understand that,
- 8:04Speaker 4: but we got to look.
- 8:05Speaker 9: We found people in some crazy places.
- 8:08Speaker 2: With no sign of KJ, Wade makes no attempt to
- 8:11Speaker 2: hide his frustration with police.
- 8:13Speaker 4: She wouldn't have to hide. Well, I don't know her.
- 8:17Speaker 9: I don't know anything about her. I don't know if
- 8:19Speaker 9: she's hiding from the law or hiding from her family
- 8:21Speaker 9: or what she's doing.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Well, I don't think she would.
- 8:24Speaker 9: I just want to verify.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Okay.
- 8:25Speaker 9: Can I look in that cooler over there?
- 8:27Speaker 18: Um, that, that's kind of, like I said, later on
- 8:34Speaker 18: and Summer stuff, but I'm trying to keep my stuff
- 8:38Speaker 18: kind of private.
- 8:38Speaker 9: Well, that's fine.
- 8:39Speaker 12: All I want to do is open it, say, KJ,
- 8:41Speaker 12: you in there, and then close it right back up,
- 8:43Speaker 12: and I'll get out of here.
- 8:44Speaker 4: You'll be out of handcuffs, and we'll be gone. Well,
- 8:51Speaker 4: let's have a warrant for the rest of this, and
- 8:53Speaker 4: I'll just get detained. Okay. I don't understand why all this.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Seemingly confused at the invasion of his personal space, Wade
- 9:01Speaker 2: agrees to wait it out while officers request a search warrant.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Why don't you just have a seat right there?
- 9:07Speaker 5: Well, do you mind if I wait out here?
- 9:11Speaker 4: I mean.
- 9:11Speaker 14: No, we're going to.
- 9:12Speaker 9: I got to pipe up search warrant. But at this point,
- 9:15Speaker 9: I'm suspicious that she is in there.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Why?
- 9:19Speaker 12: Because you won't let me look in that cooler or
- 9:24Speaker 12: any other big boxes in there.
- 9:25Speaker 9: I didn't see anything else I need to look through.
- 9:27Speaker 14: But a big cooler, you know, I have no idea
- 9:30Speaker 14: what size she is.
- 9:31Speaker 9: If she's a little person.
- 9:33Speaker 12: You could probably put two of her in that cooler.
- 9:35Speaker 4: That cooler was that big.
- 9:36Speaker 9: So basically, I'll make sure she's not hidden in there.
- 9:39Speaker 12: It took you a little while to answer your door,
- 9:41Speaker 12: so I don't know if she was.
- 9:42Speaker 5: The reason why it took a while is because I
- 9:45Speaker 5: had to get dressed.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Okay. Yeah, I understand that. If you were in bed, yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 9: But in the meantime, you could have been telling somebody
- 9:53Speaker 9: to go hide in the cooler.
- 9:54Speaker 14: I don't know.
- 9:55Speaker 4: She's not in trouble.
- 9:56Speaker 9: We just have a job to do.
- 9:58Speaker 2: As officers repeatedly ask, Wade to wait in the cruiser,
- 10:01Speaker 2: he does everything he can think of to avoid the
- 10:03Speaker 2: back seat.
- 10:05Speaker 4: I'd actually like to stay out here if that's okay.
- 10:07Speaker 9: Well, we can't.
- 10:10Speaker 8: Sit right here if that's okay. You can sit long
- 10:13Speaker 8: ways across the seat, but you've got to get all
- 10:14Speaker 8: the way in. You want to put your back towards
- 10:17Speaker 8: the other door if you can, or... Whatever's more comfortable
- 10:20Speaker 8: for you.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Once Wade finally gets settled, officers catch up a few
- 10:25Speaker 2: feet away, and they're quick to voice concerns.
- 10:28Speaker 17: Meanwhile, a somewhat cooperative Wade is still squirming in the
- 10:31Speaker 17: back of.
- 10:31Speaker 4: The squad car.
- 10:52Speaker 5: I feel claustrophobic.
- 10:54Speaker 17: Okay.
- 10:55Speaker 5: I really am.
- 10:56Speaker 9: All right, we'll head back there, okay?
- 11:03Speaker 4: I'm really feeling claustrophobic right now. Okay.
- 11:06Speaker 9: Well, we could end this all.
- 11:08Speaker 12: You can take me in there and let me look
- 11:10Speaker 12: around more, or I've got to take you back and
- 11:12Speaker 12: put you in.
- 11:12Speaker 9: A cell while I'm doing the search warrant.
- 11:15Speaker 4: All right, well, let me go back then.
- 11:17Speaker 2: As Wade silently leads the officer back to his apartment,
- 11:21Speaker 2: a strange energy hangs heavy in the air.
- 11:23Speaker 12: All I'm concerned about is any closets or any coolers.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Like I said, just in here. Watch. Okay.
- 11:40Speaker 9: Can I pop it open and just take a peek?
- 11:42Speaker 4: Well, yeah, if you want.
- 11:45Speaker 5: Okay.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Okay.
- 11:50Speaker 14: Why don't you step back for a second?
- 11:52Speaker 4: Okay.
- 11:53Speaker 9: What's in there?
- 11:55Speaker 4: Just stuff. Okay. All right. Let's head out here.
- 12:00Speaker 7: Head out.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Head out here. Yep. Yep.
- 12:03Speaker 14: Everything's good.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Should I do everything?
- 12:07Speaker 7: Yep.
- 12:09Speaker 4: You're under arrest, okay? Under arrest? Yes, you are.
- 12:13Speaker 19: All right.
- 12:14Speaker 14: I'm going to get the crime task force out here.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Can I have a soda, please? Um, just keep walking.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Once outside and back in the patrol car, Wade seems
- 12:27Speaker 2: eager to fill the silence.
- 12:28Speaker 4: This situation happened and... Yeah. Yep. And that's probably because
- 12:34Speaker 4: that's why somebody.
- 12:35Speaker 13: Put it here.
- 12:36Speaker 2: The officers already seemed to have an idea that something
- 12:39Speaker 2: horrible happened in that apartment, but they couldn't yet know
- 12:42Speaker 2: just how twisted things will get by the end of
- 12:45Speaker 2: this disturbing case.
- 12:47Speaker 13: I am currently sitting on a car with a guy
- 12:50Speaker 13: in the back seat who has done something bad.
- 12:54Speaker 2: As some of the officers begin searching the apartment, others
- 12:57Speaker 2: transport Wade to the station and settle in for a
- 13:00Speaker 2: long night, doing their best to put him at ease.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Whatever happened, they need to know the full story. When
- 13:06Speaker 2: he does start to talk, the story he has to
- 13:09Speaker 2: tell is only a small piece of the truth, and
- 13:11Speaker 2: what really happened to KJ is far more disturbing than
- 13:14Speaker 2: anyone could have ever imagined.
- 13:17Speaker 9: We got some homemade cookies in there that are really good.
- 13:19Speaker 4: You want a couple cookies? I'd rather pass on that.
- 13:24Speaker 4: You want a couple of them, or? Yeah, I'm agreed.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Okay.
- 13:27Speaker 2: All right.
- 13:29Speaker 9: We will get you hooked up.
- 13:32Speaker 14: All right, man.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Here's some cookies. I can get started on those.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Soon, the detective arrives. While Wade insinuated earlier that KJ
- 13:43Speaker 2: was merely a distant friend, it's not long before that
- 13:46Speaker 2: story changes.
- 13:47Speaker 4: And I think it goes back to, like, 2013, I think. Okay.
- 13:55Speaker 5: And we started being friends, but we started probably dating
- 13:59Speaker 5: sometime after that.
- 14:02Speaker 20: So would it be fair to say that you've known
- 14:04Speaker 20: Kelly Jean since 2013?
- 14:06Speaker 4: Well, I've known.
- 14:08Speaker 5: Her before that, but that was just when she added.
- 14:12Speaker 4: Me on Facebook.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Recently, according to Wade, he even lived with KJ in
- 14:17Speaker 2: his current apartment.
- 14:18Speaker 3: All right, Wade, so what I would like to know
- 14:22Speaker 3: from you is, in your own words.
- 14:26Speaker 4: What happened to Kelly Jean? I know she's been through
- 14:33Speaker 4: a lot.
- 14:38Speaker 21: It might take a little bit to describe, but there's
- 14:42Speaker 21: a lot. Please take your time. I have nowhere else
- 14:45Speaker 21: to be. So I will bear with you, Officer Wire
- 14:48Speaker 21: will bear with you.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Absolutely. If you need a tissue, there's plenty of tissues there.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Earlier, the search of Wade's apartment revealed some chilling discoveries.
- 14:59Speaker 4: So there's a rope, there's a bungee cord. We have
- 15:03Speaker 4: the trash bag. Some type of ribbon. Bungee with a
- 15:13Speaker 4: female belt. Girl's shoes, those green ones. I'll start with
- 15:20Speaker 4: saying that she's hyperglossy neck.
- 15:24Speaker 5: All right, so her eating levels are important. She has
- 15:28Speaker 5: to have a certain amount of sugars or whatever. I
- 15:33Speaker 5: only bring that to attention because I know at one point,
- 15:38Speaker 5: while she was making cereal, she fainted and really hurt
- 15:43Speaker 5: her head and really concerned me. Because a little after that,
- 15:48Speaker 5: I started seeing impairment issues, that her speech, memory, things
- 15:59Speaker 5: like that.
- 15:59Speaker 3: I was concerned.
- 16:01Speaker 4: How long ago would you say that was? Wow. Yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 4: that's good.
- 16:12Speaker 3: I mean, right here.
- 16:14Speaker 13: You seeing this?
- 16:16Speaker 5: For her, that incident had to have happened.
- 16:23Speaker 4: In March. Okay, so it's been a little bit of
- 16:30Speaker 4: When she fell, did she become unconscious? Did she knock
- 16:33Speaker 4: herself out? Did she just kind of stomp herself? She
- 16:37Speaker 4: was unconscious for a little bit. Okay. About how long
- 16:40Speaker 4: would you say a little bit would be?
- 16:45Speaker 5: Well, I would say five to ten minutes, even though
- 16:51Speaker 5: that might seem like a little bit to.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Me, that's a long time for somebody to be unconscious.
- 16:56Speaker 2: And as Wade tells it, KJ's symptoms lingered in the
- 16:59Speaker 2: days after her fall, and they weren't subtle. She had
- 17:02Speaker 2: no memory of what happened, and she struggled to carry
- 17:05Speaker 2: out daily functions that weren't a challenge for her before.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Though KJ did suffer from these symptoms, what Wade is
- 17:11Speaker 2: saying happened isn't the full story, and what really happened
- 17:14Speaker 2: to her is far more disturbing than just a fall.
- 17:18Speaker 5: And I was trying to take care of.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Her with her Wade isn't the only person police spoke to.
- 17:24Speaker 2: They also asked his neighbor Sherry, who lived right next door,
- 17:27Speaker 2: to come to the station to answer some questions and
- 17:30Speaker 2: hopefully shed some light on what really happened to KJ.
- 17:33Speaker 2: According to Sherry, she and Wade had a cordial relationship,
- 17:37Speaker 2: occasionally spending evenings watching TV together in her apartment. But
- 17:41Speaker 2: Wade made a comment about KJ that left Sherry feeling concerned.
- 17:46Speaker 22: Also, he told me that she had fallen in the
- 17:48Speaker 22: bathroom and that thought she might have a skull fracture.
- 17:55Speaker 22: And I said, well, you need to take her to
- 17:57Speaker 22: the emergency room. He goes, I'm taking.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Care of her.
- 18:01Speaker 2: This development immediately put officers on high alert. In the
- 18:05Speaker 2: story he told officers, Wade explained KJ fell in the
- 18:08Speaker 2: kitchen while making cereal. In this version, Wade said she
- 18:12Speaker 2: fell in the bathroom. This is only the first of
- 18:14Speaker 2: many red flags in this story.
- 18:16Speaker 5: She wasn't able to feed herself.
- 18:21Speaker 4: And that really.
- 18:23Speaker 5: I did my best to try to help feed her.
- 18:27Speaker 5: So one time I came in, I saw her sitting
- 18:29Speaker 5: on the tub and I tried to feed her this meal.
- 18:33Speaker 5: I want to be freezer better because I have a
- 18:36Speaker 5: bunch of those. And it was chilly. And she was
- 18:40Speaker 5: just kind of like holding it like this. And then
- 18:45Speaker 5: she just moved so slow. And there was just chilly
- 18:49Speaker 5: all over her.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Wade explained that KJ even struggled to drink water at times,
- 18:54Speaker 2: despite his attempts to help her.
- 18:56Speaker 20: Did you try to get some medical treatment for her,
- 18:58Speaker 20: see what was going on, anything like that?
- 19:03Speaker 4: I didn't take her, no.
- 19:05Speaker 5: I didn't know if she could move or get around.
- 19:11Speaker 5: What do you mean by that? She just wasn't walking.
- 19:17Speaker 5: Like I said, her motor skills were.
- 19:23Speaker 5: I did start talking to her caseworker about how she
- 19:27Speaker 5: might need.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Adult foster care.
- 19:32Speaker 5: Because before even that, there were issues of bladder control problems.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Like on my bed, I've got a big old yellow
- 19:41Speaker 4: stand for where she'd be on that. In the kitchen,
- 19:45Speaker 4: like I have. She had issues with bladder control.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Sherry, Wade's neighbor, had more to share. Over time, she'd
- 19:54Speaker 2: grown to feel extremely uneasy in his company. It wasn't
- 19:57Speaker 2: long before an eerie and unprompted confession validated her strange
- 20:01Speaker 2: feelings about Wade. From here, the story takes an even
- 20:05Speaker 2: darker turn, suggesting that what police know about Wade so
- 20:08Speaker 2: far barely scratches the surface.
- 20:12Speaker 1: He told me that he hit women.
- 20:16Speaker 4: He told you that he hit women?
- 20:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and that he was working on it.
- 20:20Speaker 22: Because I've been through domestic violence, and I told him,
- 20:24Speaker 22: you can't do that, you know?
- 20:26Speaker 1: I said, you can go to jail for that. He goes,
- 20:29Speaker 1: I know I'm working on it.
- 20:30Speaker 2: After Wade's comments, Sherry remained friendly, but guarded, and she
- 20:34Speaker 2: decided to ease off of their visits.
- 20:37Speaker 4: I thought, I don't.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Want him in my house because he'd be dragging me.
- 20:42Speaker 4: Right.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Within two weeks of KJ's supposed fall, Wade claims that
- 20:47Speaker 2: something terrible happened. Keep in mind that he knows the
- 20:50Speaker 2: officers are working their way through his apartment, and he
- 20:53Speaker 2: knows what they're going to find. He's setting himself up
- 20:56Speaker 2: with a story he thinks will explain away the stomach-churning evidence.
- 21:01Speaker 5: I figured she'd be okay in a bathtub, just taking
- 21:05Speaker 5: a bath.
- 21:10Speaker 4: So I started the water for her. I thought she'd
- 21:15Speaker 4: be okay if she was laying.
- 21:17Speaker 19: Down, not standing up.
- 21:19Speaker 4: I wouldn't have to watch over her. She wouldn't fall. Right.
- 21:26Speaker 5: So when I see her in the morning, she was breathing,
- 21:29Speaker 5: and I just What really shocked me is when I
- 21:34Speaker 5: saw her feet. And it means that she started with
- 21:41Speaker 5: hot water and I don't know, didn't have the strength to.
- 21:44Speaker 4: Turn the knob. I can't understand why she didn't turn
- 21:50Speaker 4: it or adjust it or... And I don't know if
- 22:04Speaker 4: that was the cause of death, if it's.
- 22:10Speaker 5: Hot water, or if maybe she tried to get out
- 22:17Speaker 5: and fell or something.
- 22:19Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 22:20Speaker 5: I seriously do want to know what the cause of
- 22:22Speaker 5: death was, because I really don't know.
- 22:33Speaker 2: With this claim, Wade has confirmed that KJ isn't missing.
- 22:37Speaker 2: She's dead.
- 22:38Speaker 4: When you left the bathroom, how was she positioned? She
- 22:43Speaker 4: was laying in the tub. Okay.
- 22:45Speaker 13: So this is where I don't see anything on the
- 22:57Speaker 13: outside of the fridge.
- 23:02Speaker 4: The naked eye. See the thing underneath? And did you
- 23:15Speaker 4: go back in there? I went to sleep. You went
- 23:20Speaker 4: to sleep? I thought she was going to be okay.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Authorities struggle to understand Wade's logic. In what world would
- 23:27Speaker 2: someone leave a person who was incapable of eating, drinking,
- 23:30Speaker 2: or moving around without help alone in a tub full
- 23:33Speaker 2: of water? There's one very good reason for this. Wade
- 23:36Speaker 2: isn't telling them the truth. While on a break in
- 23:38Speaker 2: the back room, officers wrestle with ideas about what's really
- 23:42Speaker 2: going on.
- 23:43Speaker 4: This guy, like, not all there. He's not all there.
- 23:47Speaker 12: We thought we'd, like, I figured he'd choke him up
- 23:50Speaker 12: pretty easy, but he's either really good or he's just,
- 23:53Speaker 12: I don't like he's, yeah, I don't like he's all there.
- 23:57Speaker 2: As the police will soon learn, it isn't that Wade
- 23:59Speaker 2: is out of his mind. Rather, he's attempting to manipulate
- 24:03Speaker 2: them in order to hide the truth of what really
- 24:05Speaker 2: happened to KJ. But the horrors uncovered back at his
- 24:08Speaker 2: apartment will reveal an entirely different version of events.
- 24:14Speaker 4: So you're cast off. Something's right there, because that's CS.
- 24:18Speaker 4: It's over here. Watch this way down. See it on a.
- 24:23Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 24:23Speaker 14: That looks like it hit pretty level.
- 24:26Speaker 4: It's almost like it's all the way across.
- 24:32Speaker 2: When the officers interviewing Wade return to speak with him,
- 24:35Speaker 2: they press him further, hoping to get a story that
- 24:38Speaker 2: makes sense. What Wade soon tells them is chilling.
- 24:42Speaker 4: And then when did you go back into the bathtub?
- 24:45Speaker 4: Or the bathroom, I'm sorry. Not till morning when I
- 24:48Speaker 4: woke up and realized she wasn't back with me.
- 24:51Speaker 14: Was the water still running or was the water off?
- 24:56Speaker 4: Uh, water was off so she had to have turned
- 25:01Speaker 4: it at some point.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Had to have.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Was her head above water or below water?
- 25:12Speaker 3: Below water.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Below water. Okay. What happened at that point?
- 25:16Speaker 7: Did you.
- 25:24Speaker 2: If KJ's death was truly an accident, it's hard to
- 25:27Speaker 2: fathom why Wade wouldn't immediately call for help. Wade has
- 25:30Speaker 2: also just lied to police. Or at the very least,
- 25:33Speaker 2: he's leaving something integral out of this story. Given the
- 25:37Speaker 2: 911 call reporting KJ's death, Wade had to have told
- 25:40Speaker 2: someone about KJ's death.
- 25:43Speaker 15: It turns out that Wade had no question in his
- 25:46Speaker 15: mind about the identity of the mysterious caller who reported.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Him to the authorities. And Wade was right. The caller
- 25:51Speaker 4: was his own best friend.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Stephen Ryan Russ. Wade explained that after everything had happened,
- 26:15Speaker 2: his only way to cope with KJ's death was to
- 26:18Speaker 2: tell someone, so he confided in Stephen. But what he
- 26:21Speaker 2: told him was so disturbing that Stephen couldn't keep it
- 26:24Speaker 2: to himself. When police bring Stephen in for questioning, it's
- 26:28Speaker 2: clear from the start he has reservations about speaking up.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Is this going to be in court? This could possibly
- 26:35Speaker 4: be used in court, yeah. So Wade's going to know
- 26:37Speaker 4: about this? Here he goes. All right, so the whole.
- 26:41Speaker 20: Case came to light when the central dispatch got a call.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Regarding Wade and KJ. Do you know about that call? Yes,
- 26:53Speaker 4: I do. Did you place that call to central dispatch? Yes,
- 26:55Speaker 4: I did. And what was that call in reference to?
- 26:59Speaker 5: My family was getting very scared of him, and.
- 27:04Speaker 24: It was to the point that they couldn't even sleep,
- 27:07Speaker 24: so I had.
- 27:07Speaker 4: To do something.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Stephen continues, explaining the series of Facebook messages that turned
- 27:13Speaker 2: his world upside down.
- 27:15Speaker 4: He said that he did something and that he can't
- 27:20Speaker 4: talk to.
- 27:20Speaker 7: Anyone about it.
- 27:21Speaker 4: And I was like, well, I'm your brother. You can
- 27:24Speaker 4: talk to me.
- 27:25Speaker 2: According to Stephen, Wade then explained that KJ had passed
- 27:28Speaker 2: away unexpectedly and he didn't report her death to the police.
- 27:33Speaker 18: He wanted us to help him move the body with
- 27:35Speaker 18: the car and we both told him no.
- 27:38Speaker 4: That we can't do that. And I was like, you know,
- 27:40Speaker 4: you're one of my closest friends, and I'll keep your
- 27:43Speaker 4: secret for you, but obviously I couldn't.
- 27:45Speaker 2: In interrogation, Wade tries to explain his choice to hide
- 27:49Speaker 2: KJ's death, hoping to ease detective suspicions.
- 27:52Speaker 5: It's hard to feel like I can be honest if
- 27:54Speaker 5: I feel like I go through scenarios all the time
- 27:59Speaker 5: where I'm accused.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Well, I can tell you we're not here making any accusation.
- 28:06Speaker 4: We're just here to... By now, Wade knew he was
- 28:08Speaker 4: in trouble. KJ's body was still in his apartment, and
- 28:11Speaker 4: he needed it gone. Stephen eventually paid him a visit,
- 28:15Speaker 4: and things only got worse. He's asked me if I
- 28:37Speaker 4: wanted to see the body, and I told him no.
- 28:39Speaker 4: I really didn't want anything to do with it. I
- 28:43Speaker 4: didn't even want to be in there. It felt like
- 28:45Speaker 4: there was an elephant sitting on my chest.
- 28:47Speaker 2: When asked why Wade would keep KJ's body in the apartment,
- 28:50Speaker 2: Stephen gave an answer that only hinted at the truth.
- 28:54Speaker 5: My guess is because he didn't have the means of
- 28:57Speaker 5: getting rid of it.
- 28:58Speaker 4: I treated it like I was guilty of the situation.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Wade's desire to give KJ a proper burial is chilling,
- 29:20Speaker 2: and his next comments stir up the eerie feeling that
- 29:22Speaker 2: Wade desires some sort of control, a theme that will
- 29:26Speaker 2: surface again soon. As disturbing as this story is, it's
- 29:30Speaker 2: only the beginning of the sickening revelations because Wade still
- 29:34Speaker 2: isn't telling the full story.
- 29:36Speaker 4: At least wherever I'll put her, I would visit her.
- 29:40Speaker 4: I wouldn't want her to have, like, nobody visit.
- 29:47Speaker 7: Her, you know?
- 29:48Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know what you guys would do
- 29:50Speaker 5: with her now, but if I could know where she
- 29:53Speaker 5: was buried, I'd like to.
- 29:57Speaker 4: Go. Yeah. A couple paper stuff.
- 30:07Speaker 7: I want to look, so.
- 30:12Speaker 2: The police then question Wade about what happened after he
- 30:15Speaker 2: claims he found KJ dead, and he launches into a
- 30:18Speaker 2: truly sickening timeline. But no matter how shocking his revelations seem,
- 30:23Speaker 2: they pale in comparison to what's to come when the
- 30:25Speaker 2: truth is revealed.
- 30:27Speaker 20: So let's get back to our sequence of what how
- 30:31Speaker 20: things kind of played out and what happened.
- 30:34Speaker 3: So, wake up in the morning, she's in the bathtub,
- 30:38Speaker 3: she's not breathing.
- 30:39Speaker 4: What transpired from there? Well, it's not pretty, I'll tell
- 30:49Speaker 4: you that.
- 30:54Speaker 24: Seeing things that I can't unsee, but.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Okay, so I... It took me a while to get
- 31:04Speaker 4: some coolers. In the process of that, I would run
- 31:09Speaker 4: cold water on her until I got some coolers. Because
- 31:14Speaker 4: I was like....
- 31:18Speaker 23: I mean, you have a lot of detective shows, right?
- 31:21Speaker 4: Sure.
- 31:22Speaker 14: They're good.
- 31:23Speaker 4: If you keep the body cold or something, maybe.
- 31:27Speaker 4: They'll preserve it.
- 31:28Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Maybe I'm ignorant of what I'm thinking, but that's TV, right?
- 31:34Speaker 5: I've seen the whole decompensation process. And I'll come in.
- 31:41Speaker 5: I'll come in and check on her. I know she's passed,
- 31:44Speaker 5: but I still talk to her.
- 31:45Speaker 8: Okay.
- 31:49Speaker 4: Which probably makes you greatly... I definitely don't think there's
- 31:53Speaker 4: something that makes you crazy. I mean, I.
- 31:55Speaker 20: It's no different than someone who goes to a gravesite
- 31:57Speaker 20: and talks to one of their loved ones who's passed.
- 32:01Speaker 4: First couple days, she's movable, right? Right.
- 32:06Speaker 5: Then after that, you see, like, the blood kind of
- 32:10Speaker 5: settle where she was laying at. And then after that,
- 32:16Speaker 5: that's when I started seeing, like, black around her fingertips
- 32:21Speaker 5: and her groin.
- 32:25Speaker 4: Waistline and by then she was pretty stiff for a
- 32:30Speaker 4: good while because when she was.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Laid in the tub she kind of laid like against
- 32:37Speaker 5: the wall I think or something but even after a
- 32:43Speaker 5: while the stiffness faded away and she just kind of you.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Know laid on her.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Shoulder Now, Wade was in a pickle. With a decomposing
- 32:54Speaker 2: body in his bathtub and with Stephen's refusal to help
- 32:57Speaker 2: him move it, it was only a matter of time
- 32:59Speaker 2: until someone caught on. So, he hatched a plan. On
- 33:03Speaker 2: April 12th, around six days after KJ's death, Wade saved
- 33:07Speaker 2: up the money to buy a large cooler, air freshener,
- 33:10Speaker 2: and 30-gallon trash bags.
- 33:13Speaker 4: So what happened at that point?
- 33:14Speaker 3: You said that you bought one and then realized you
- 33:18Speaker 3: needed a second.
- 33:18Speaker 4: What do you mean by that? But I wanted to
- 33:22Speaker 4: put her all in one so she could be whole.
- 33:25Speaker 4: But I couldn't.
- 33:28Speaker 5: Really move her in any kind of way to keep
- 33:32Speaker 5: her whole. Nothing I could do to keep her remain whole.
- 33:43Speaker 4: That's where I really got hurt. So is it a
- 33:47Speaker 4: bloodbath in there?
- 33:54Speaker 14: What happened at that point?
- 33:58Speaker 4: When I had to get the second cooler, I had
- 34:01Speaker 4: to put her legs in that one.
- 34:05Speaker 5: I'm not going to lie, that was the grossest thing ever.
- 34:09Speaker 20: I guess help me understand how she was in one
- 34:13Speaker 20: and her legs were in another.
- 34:20Speaker 4: I had to cut her legs.
- 34:26Speaker 6: When Wade couldn't fit KJ's body into one large cooler,
- 34:32Speaker 6: he decided dismemberment was his only option.
- 34:56Speaker 2: But he didn't exactly keep a low profile. Instead, he
- 34:59Speaker 2: asked to borrow a saw from his neighbor Sherry, not
- 35:02Speaker 2: an unusual request, if it weren't for his bizarre explanation.
- 35:05Speaker 2: According to Sherry, Wade claimed he needed the tool to
- 35:08Speaker 2: cut his mattress in half. When he wasn't able to
- 35:11Speaker 2: use someone else's saw, he purchased his own from a
- 35:14Speaker 2: local supermarket and then got to work.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Where did you come from, by the way?
- 35:24Speaker 5: This is the most disgusting thing ever. Hopefully you never
- 35:31Speaker 5: have to see something like.
- 35:32Speaker 4: This in your life, ever. All right, so here and
- 35:44Speaker 4: then here.
- 35:47Speaker 5: I started here, but then I realized her knees were
- 35:51Speaker 5: still over the edge.
- 35:55Speaker 4: I had to go here, too.
- 35:57Speaker 23: What I would have wanted to do, except she was
- 36:00Speaker 23: too heavy for me, is take her under a shower,
- 36:05Speaker 23: get her washed off, because after she passed on, she
- 36:09Speaker 23: crapped herself.
- 36:10Speaker 4: I was like, man. I didn't even know that until
- 36:13Speaker 4: I got into the cooler.
- 36:15Speaker 2: The police working their way through Wade's apartment eventually confronted
- 36:18Speaker 2: the sickening discovery hidden in his cooler.
- 36:22Speaker 20: Now, remember, when we opened this, This is something that
- 36:26Speaker 20: we're not ever going to be able to unsee.
- 36:34Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Her head, her arms, her breasts. She's been
- 36:42Speaker 4: gone for a while.
- 36:43Speaker 16: Yep.
- 36:44Speaker 4: Her legs are detached. It's above the knee. Yep. Bugs
- 36:50Speaker 4: have made their way in. Yep. There's a large amount
- 36:53Speaker 4: of food for them. Definitely female. Appears to be Caucasian. Naked,
- 36:59Speaker 4: no clothes.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Okay.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. And cut up. Nice.
- 37:16Speaker 14: Okay, now it stinked.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Well, so there's a lot more evidence in here somewhere. Yeah,
- 37:24Speaker 4: now it does.
- 37:26Speaker 2: The officers have only discovered part of what they believe
- 37:29Speaker 2: to be KJ's body, but it won't be long before
- 37:32Speaker 2: they find the rest.
- 37:33Speaker 14: Get a picture of that.
- 37:38Speaker 4: So that's where it is. So we are going to
- 37:44Speaker 4: move this. So this cooler is what we think Might
- 37:51Speaker 4: have the other parts in it. I will lift it up.
- 37:58Speaker 4: It is tied in a knot up here. I will
- 38:06Speaker 4: cut right here.
- 38:08Speaker 5: Yeah, those are her legs.
- 38:23Speaker 4: I saw some toes and an ankle. Are you able
- 38:27Speaker 4: to open that up? Yeah, there's two of them in there. Okay,
- 38:33Speaker 4: this is probably not the best place to puke.
- 38:35Speaker 2: From his apartment, authorities also collected clear safety goggles, rubber gloves,
- 38:40Speaker 2: and several small items, including bungee cords, a black belt,
- 38:44Speaker 2: and a white ribbon. This white ribbon, a seemingly innocuous
- 38:48Speaker 2: discovery compared to the horrors already uncovered, would turn out
- 38:51Speaker 2: to be a clue to the stomach-churning truth of what
- 38:54Speaker 2: really happened to KJ.
- 38:56Speaker 14: Was her head attached?
- 38:58Speaker 4: Yeah. She's in the cooler. Yeah.
- 39:04Speaker 14: That's all I've seen was her arm and part of
- 39:06Speaker 14: her chest, and I just shut it.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Through the femur.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Authorities shift focus to the saw, which wasn't recovered from
- 39:14Speaker 2: Wade's apartment during the initial search. Wade says that shortly
- 39:17Speaker 2: after he dismembered KJ's body, he contacted a friend he
- 39:19Speaker 2: knew through the local shelter system to negotiate a trade,
- 39:22Speaker 2: a saw for a DVD player. Is there a reason
- 39:25Speaker 2: they got rid of it? or just had it and didn't.
- 39:27Speaker 15: Really need it?
- 39:28Speaker 4: And how did that whole thing play out with Bill?
- 39:31Speaker 4: He needed it, and I needed a DVD player.
- 39:41Speaker 2: While Wade describes trading the saw as a casual, serendipitous event,
- 39:45Speaker 2: police catch up with the man who received the saw,
- 39:48Speaker 2: and he describes an entirely different scenario.
- 39:51Speaker 4: Like, he really was wanting to hear it to me.
- 39:54Speaker 10: I'm like, well, just wait until I bring you the DVD,
- 39:55Speaker 10: because I don't like doing deals where I owe somebody,
- 39:58Speaker 10: because then I've got it on the back of my
- 39:59Speaker 10: mind constantly. So I was like, just wait. And he's like, no, no, here,
- 40:03Speaker 10: just take it out.
- 40:04Speaker 20: Would you say that he was insisting that you take
- 40:06Speaker 20: the saw?
- 40:07Speaker 4: Pretty much, yes, he was insisting. Because I even said no,
- 40:13Speaker 4: not right now. Did you notice anything about the saw
- 40:17Speaker 4: that was weird? I was looking at the.
- 40:19Speaker 10: You can see, like, in the serration, there looked like a.
- 40:23Speaker 4: Chunk of something in there.
- 40:25Speaker 2: DNA testing of the saw blade did reveal the possibility
- 40:28Speaker 2: of blood present, although further details could not be confirmed.
- 40:32Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not proud of anything at all.
- 40:35Speaker 14: Sure, but stuff happens, and we're just trying to get the.
- 40:39Speaker 4: That's not how this should be. Okay. He kept saying
- 40:43Speaker 4: that word, like, this is not how you should have went.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Upon reflection, Bill explained this wasn't the only thing that
- 40:58Speaker 2: seemed off when he was around Wade.
- 41:00Speaker 20: And then when you heard about Wade getting arrested, what
- 41:03Speaker 20: was the first thought in your mind?
- 41:04Speaker 4: I didn't believe it.
- 41:05Speaker 10: I'm like, because I've been hanging out with him.
- 41:07Speaker 4: I freaked out because I was sitting on the cooler
- 41:09Speaker 4: and I didn't know. I smelled it. Like, you know,
- 41:13Speaker 4: now I know what a dead body smell is, but I,
- 41:14Speaker 4: you know, that smell was there. As soon as I
- 41:17Speaker 4: walked in, it was bad. You know, I was just thinking, man,
- 41:20Speaker 4: this guy's got some nasty bowels or something. But that's
- 41:23Speaker 4: what I honestly thought that was. But now I know
- 41:26Speaker 4: that it.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Was a body smell.
- 41:28Speaker 2: By now, the police are more than suspicious that the
- 41:30Speaker 2: story Wade is telling them isn't the truth, but just
- 41:33Speaker 2: what exactly he was hiding remained to be seen. Still, Sherry,
- 41:37Speaker 2: Wade's neighbor, may have had some idea about what was
- 41:40Speaker 2: really going on behind the closed door of Wade's apartment.
- 41:43Speaker 2: In her interview, she recalled one of the few interactions
- 41:46Speaker 2: she ever had with KJ. One day, she stopped by
- 41:49Speaker 2: Wade's door to ask for coffee and was surprised when
- 41:52Speaker 2: KJ greeted her at the door. Sherry didn't know it
- 41:55Speaker 2: at the time, but as KJ peered out from behind
- 41:57Speaker 2: the front door, she didn't have a stitch of clothing on.
- 42:01Speaker 2: KJ agreed to send Wade over shortly. When he showed
- 42:04Speaker 2: up on Sherry's doorstep, coffee in hand, he wasn't happy.
- 42:07Speaker 2: According to Sherry, Wade admitted to forcing KJ to walk
- 42:11Speaker 2: around their home naked, and by answering the door that day,
- 42:14Speaker 2: she'd apparently crossed the line.
- 42:16Speaker 22: He said, uh, she shouldn't have opened the door like that.
- 42:21Speaker 22: I said, well, I didn't see anything. And he goes,
- 42:24Speaker 22: I'm gonna have to get.
- 42:24Speaker 4: The belt out.
- 42:25Speaker 2: But back in the interrogation room, Wade doesn't do much
- 42:29Speaker 2: to refute his neighbor's accusations. In fact, he expands on them.
- 42:33Speaker 14: You've never gone to jail for.
- 42:36Speaker 15: fighting somebody or pushing somebody or any kind of domestic
- 42:41Speaker 15: violence or anything crazy like that.
- 42:46Speaker 5: But domestic things in the past have been dismissed and courted.
- 42:49Speaker 2: A pattern is beginning to emerge. While Wade admits fault
- 42:53Speaker 2: in some instances, the admissions almost seem calculated, as if
- 42:56Speaker 2: they're designed to distract from the larger questions at hand.
- 43:00Speaker 1: I said, if I hear any domestic violence, I'm going
- 43:03Speaker 1: to call the police.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Sherry never called the police, but Wade eventually admits to
- 43:08Speaker 2: the officers that he did hurt KJ.
- 43:10Speaker 5: All right, I kicked her in the butt because I
- 43:13Speaker 5: was ashamed of her cheating on me and such.
- 43:17Speaker 4: You know, I shouldn't have, but I did.
- 43:23Speaker 5: And then when I find out in court she tried
- 43:25Speaker 5: to blame these bruises of her ankles on me, I
- 43:29Speaker 5: thought it had nothing to do with her ankles.
- 43:31Speaker 4: That's false evidence.
- 43:34Speaker 5: Because what happened was she fell down by the railroad, again,
- 43:38Speaker 5: the balance issue, by the railroad tracks.
- 43:41Speaker 4: And that caused the bruises from her ankles rolling.
- 43:45Speaker 14: Not from you kicking her, though.
- 43:46Speaker 3: No.
- 43:46Speaker 4: Gotcha. I guess she had reason for concern.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Soon, officers place Wade in a holding cell while they
- 44:00Speaker 2: continue to investigate, and as if it were everyday conversation,
- 44:03Speaker 2: Wade nonchalantly confirms his neighbor's allegations. Earlier, when Wade was
- 44:08Speaker 2: first brought in, he contemplated his choice to hide KJ's death.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Most disturbingly, despite knowing what the officers at his apartment
- 44:16Speaker 2: were going to discover and knowing what he had done,
- 44:19Speaker 2: he somehow still had an appetite to eat the cookies
- 44:21Speaker 2: offered to him.
- 44:22Speaker 20: All right, Wade, so what I would like to know
- 44:26Speaker 20: from you Is, in your own words, what.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Happened to Kelly Jean?
- 44:35Speaker 5: On the day I found her like that, if I
- 44:37Speaker 5: had called her then, would there be a different outcome?
- 44:41Speaker 4: Anything different?
- 44:43Speaker 14: Yeah, I don't know. It just depends on, you know,
- 44:46Speaker 14: when it was and all that.
- 44:49Speaker 2: His indifference was yet another subtle sign of the horrors
- 44:52Speaker 2: to come. But still, no one can prepare themselves for
- 44:55Speaker 2: the nauseating story that is eventually revealed.
- 44:59Speaker 14: When was the last time you used a belt on her?
- 45:00Speaker 1: Probably a day or two before.
- 45:06Speaker 14: Before she died?
- 45:07Speaker 4: Yeah, but that couldn't cause death.
- 45:10Speaker 14: I wouldn't think it would. Why did you use a
- 45:13Speaker 14: belt on her? Because I had one in his hands.
- 45:17Speaker 4: Okay. What did she do to deserve the belt?
- 45:21Speaker 1: Her coming back type thing.
- 45:23Speaker 4: Okay.
- 45:24Speaker 14: So it's punishment to her.
- 45:27Speaker 4: But that's my point.
- 45:30Speaker 5: I started using the belt because I didn't want to
- 45:32Speaker 5: use hands anymore.
- 45:33Speaker 4: Okay. That's why I'm not saying it's that much better.
- 45:38Speaker 1: It shouldn't be physical anyways.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Sherry had a different theory, one that was sickeningly close
- 45:44Speaker 2: to the truth.
- 45:45Speaker 22: I never really saw her because I think that he
- 45:51Speaker 22: was keeping her in there and not wanting anybody to
- 45:54Speaker 22: see her.
- 45:55Speaker 2: By now, authorities know more than they're letting on. And
- 45:58Speaker 2: with one question, they signal to Wade that his house
- 46:01Speaker 2: of lies is about to collapse around him.
- 46:04Speaker 14: We're not going to find any belt marks around her neck,
- 46:06Speaker 14: are we? That's just a question I got asked.
- 46:10Speaker 1: I don't think you all know.
- 46:14Speaker 9: What if we do?
- 46:19Speaker 2: With Wade's history of alleged violence, authorities are hoping for
- 46:23Speaker 2: first-hand witnesses, and when they catch up with his most
- 46:26Speaker 2: recent ex-girlfriend, Katie, they get more than they bargained for.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Katie explained that she'd known Wade since childhood, and their
- 46:34Speaker 2: relationship became romantic in 2018, just one year prior, but
- 46:39Speaker 2: it was short-lived, ending abruptly after only three months.
- 46:43Speaker 4: So what happened that ended your guys' relationship?
- 46:47Speaker 11: Okay, so.
- 46:49Speaker 16: My kids had just started school again and I needed
- 46:52Speaker 16: to be home with them. And so I couldn't do
- 46:55Speaker 16: whatever he was asking me to do, like pick him.
- 46:57Speaker 11: Up or something.
- 46:58Speaker 16: And he ended up showing up here, but I had
- 47:02Speaker 16: my kids and I could not take him. And he
- 47:06Speaker 16: started to fight out here. And I finally was like, okay,
- 47:09Speaker 16: just get in the car. Like, I'll take you just
- 47:11Speaker 16: to get you away from me. And my kids were
- 47:15Speaker 16: in the backseat and he was in the front seat
- 47:18Speaker 16: with me. And we were driving towards Hale-Mizzou and he
- 47:22Speaker 16: realized that I was going to leave him there. And
- 47:25Speaker 16: he said something and I just put my hand across.
- 47:29Speaker 11: I didn't even touch him.
- 47:31Speaker 16: I just was like, stop, like, just stop. My kids
- 47:34Speaker 16: are right there. Like, you're freaking out. And he told
- 47:37Speaker 16: me that he would break my arm if I ever
- 47:39Speaker 16: did that again. And so my daughter, she's.
- 47:42Speaker 11: A diabetic, and she started.
- 47:46Speaker 16: I didn't know at the time, but she was like, Mom,
- 47:48Speaker 16: my sugar's going well.
- 47:50Speaker 11: But she was just thinking it to get back home.
- 47:54Speaker 4: Smart girl.
- 47:56Speaker 11: So I got us back here. My kids got in
- 47:58Speaker 11: the house. I got.
- 48:01Speaker 16: away from him out of the car. And he's like,
- 48:05Speaker 16: just get back in the.
- 48:05Speaker 11: Car and take me. And I'm like, no, I'm not
- 48:07Speaker 11: getting back in the car.
- 48:08Speaker 16: And I put like a bicycle and a chair between
- 48:11Speaker 16: us and I wouldn't let him get close enough.
- 48:13Speaker 11: He's like, no, I'm not going to hurt you. Just
- 48:16Speaker 11: come here. Let's just figure this out. And I was like, no, no, no.
- 48:19Speaker 11: You need to find like somewhere else to go somewhere.
- 48:22Speaker 11: Like get away from me. I don't want anything to
- 48:24Speaker 11: do with you.
- 48:24Speaker 2: And before the detective leaves, she suggests something far more
- 48:28Speaker 2: sinister may be at play.
- 48:31Speaker 11: If I wouldn't have ended things when I did, that
- 48:33Speaker 11: would have been me. And that's terrifying to me.
- 48:36Speaker 2: As police slowly gather more pieces to this puzzle, a
- 48:39Speaker 2: clearer picture starts to emerge. Authorities are ready to confront Wade. Unsurprisingly,
- 48:45Speaker 2: Wade uses the opportunity to smooth over his story. But
- 48:48Speaker 2: in the process, he trips up.
- 48:50Speaker 4: He says, well, why didn't she scream or anything? I've
- 48:56Speaker 4: never seen that woman scream.
- 48:59Speaker 25: Never.
- 48:59Speaker 4: Never. I might have only seen her cry maybe four times. Okay.
- 49:09Speaker 14: What caused her to cry?
- 49:10Speaker 3: Two times.
- 49:13Speaker 4: It was pain-related. Like, where she got hurt, she cried.
- 49:16Speaker 4: How'd she get hurt? Was it she cut herself bad, or.
- 49:20Speaker 14: was it a broken bone?
- 49:22Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't even want to really talk
- 49:30Speaker 4: about that.
- 49:31Speaker 5: I just know that that's the only time I've ever
- 49:33Speaker 5: seen her cry.
- 49:34Speaker 4: She was twice out of pain. And twice, when I
- 49:38Speaker 4: left her alone.
- 49:39Speaker 17: You don't want to talk about it? Did you cause
- 49:42Speaker 17: the pain to her? And you can be honest with me.
- 49:48Speaker 17: It's all about getting everything.
- 49:50Speaker 14: Off your chest.
- 49:55Speaker 5: When I left her alone, I know when she cried
- 49:57Speaker 5: being alone, I caused that emotional pain.
- 50:02Speaker 4: Physical pain. I don't think me causing her physical pain
- 50:16Speaker 4: caused her to cry. I think, well, maybe.
- 50:26Speaker 12: Maybe it was a little physical pain from you?
- 50:29Speaker 1: Talking about causing pain to people is just.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Not something I get a thrill out of.
- 50:33Speaker 5: It's not.
- 50:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I understand that. I just don't want to talk
- 50:37Speaker 4: about it. That's it.
- 50:42Speaker 11: It's not appropriate.
- 50:42Speaker 4: It's not.
- 50:47Speaker 21: No.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Ironically, despite Wade's claims here, he would eventually talk about
- 50:52Speaker 2: this very subject, and it would be what law enforcement
- 50:55Speaker 2: needed to break his case wide open. Soon, the officer
- 50:58Speaker 2: stands to leave the room. Sensing Wade's desperation, he presses
- 51:02Speaker 2: a little more.
- 51:04Speaker 17: When we do the autopsy, what marks are we going
- 51:06Speaker 17: to find that was from scuffles between the two of you?
- 51:09Speaker 4: Like her lips might be messed up.
- 51:13Speaker 14: Why would her lips be messed up?
- 51:15Speaker 4: And you can speak to me, man. It's just between
- 51:21Speaker 4: me and you.
- 51:21Speaker 5: It was not something that would cause her to go
- 51:26Speaker 5: through it.
- 51:27Speaker 4: Like, that night was a peaceful night. Okay, I want
- 51:29Speaker 4: that very clear. Well, we're getting somewhere now.
- 51:32Speaker 14: Now I'm starting to see a little bit.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Before wrapping up, the officer gives Wade one last chance
- 51:38Speaker 2: to come clean.
- 51:39Speaker 14: I got 30 seconds before I gotta walk out of here, okay?
- 51:42Speaker 4: Okay.
- 51:44Speaker 17: Sue, you look me straight in the eye and tell
- 51:46Speaker 17: me that you're not the cause of her death.
- 51:52Speaker 4: No, I'm not.
- 51:53Speaker 2: While police know Wade isn't telling them everything, they never
- 51:56Speaker 2: could have imagined the stories of depravity that would follow
- 51:59Speaker 2: this interrogation, and eventually KJ's autopsy would reveal a sickening story.
- 52:05Speaker 2: After Wade was booked, The disturbing, stomach-churning truth was revealed.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Authorities received statements from several of his cellmates requesting to
- 52:13Speaker 2: speak with them. One by one, these men explained that
- 52:16Speaker 2: Wade had shared every gruesome detail about what really happened
- 52:20Speaker 2: to KJ. And proudly, what they revealed shocked everyone.
- 52:24Speaker 4: What did Wade Allen tell you guys? Man, dude, this guy.
- 52:32Speaker 15: Is.
- 52:35Speaker 7: Let me just put it to you like this. He's
- 52:36Speaker 7: a serial killer. He told us that he physically had this.
- 52:44Speaker 26: Girl down on the bed with a white ribbon around
- 52:49Speaker 26: her neck, watching the clock for five minutes until she
- 52:58Speaker 26: was dead. And he brought her back to life.
- 53:02Speaker 2: If you recall, police found ribbon while in Wade's apartment.
- 53:07Speaker 4: Some type of ribbon.
- 53:10Speaker 7: And when he did, the torture that he put her through, oh,
- 53:17Speaker 7: it's gross. It's disgusting.
- 53:19Speaker 2: This is only the beginning of the horrifying reveals. Although
- 53:23Speaker 2: Wade's alleged jailhouse stories vary slightly, several of his cellmates
- 53:27Speaker 2: agree on a few particularly gruesome details about what happened
- 53:30Speaker 2: to KJ.
- 53:32Speaker 26: He told her, he says, you're going to die by
- 53:35Speaker 26: someone that loves you and not somebody that hates you.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Curiously, investigators discovered that KJ's very last Facebook message was
- 53:43Speaker 2: to Wade on March 18th. The same day she suddenly
- 53:47Speaker 2: dropped all activity, the message read, I love you, you
- 53:50Speaker 2: are mine, and I am yours forevermore. I know that
- 53:53Speaker 2: you can't reply, but I wanted to tell you this
- 53:56Speaker 2: every day. This ominous message was just the beginning.
- 53:59Speaker 4: And you said he brought her back? What do you
- 54:01Speaker 4: mean by that?
- 54:03Speaker 7: He gave her CPR. That dude needs to be put
- 54:07Speaker 7: away for a long time, man.
- 54:09Speaker 2: As police interview cellmate after cellmate, they each build on
- 54:12Speaker 2: the same story, and as they continue, what was already
- 54:16Speaker 2: a tragic story evolves into one of pure, unbridled evil.
- 54:21Speaker 2: According to the men housed with Wade, his sick actions
- 54:24Speaker 2: may have started long before KJ's death. They claim Wade
- 54:28Speaker 2: had a jealous and controlling streak, and as one cellmate
- 54:31Speaker 2: tells it, KJ's life changed drastically after she confided in
- 54:34Speaker 2: a mutual friend about her relationship troubles.
- 54:38Speaker 25: His friend had a conversation with him and said that
- 54:42Speaker 25: Kelly had told his girlfriend that Wade was being too
- 54:45Speaker 25: rough with her as far as sexuality went. Wade said
- 54:51Speaker 25: that from that point on, he was furious because his
- 54:55Speaker 25: sexual matters weren't to be discussed with his friends, they
- 55:00Speaker 25: were personal.
- 55:02Speaker 4: So he said he.
- 55:02Speaker 25: Never let her go to whoever's house that it was again,
- 55:06Speaker 25: that from that day on when he went to work,
- 55:09Speaker 25: he started tying her up and placing her in the closet.
- 55:12Speaker 2: And if binding KJ alone in a dark closet for
- 55:14Speaker 2: hours on end wasn't sickening enough, another inmate describes an
- 55:18Speaker 2: unthinkably heinous act.
- 55:20Speaker 19: He gagged her with a screwdriver and a horse rag,
- 55:24Speaker 19: and he would put a horse rag around into the
- 55:26Speaker 19: screwdriver and made it like a horse bit. That's why
- 55:31Speaker 19: you would have to take the bit out of her
- 55:32Speaker 19: mouth because he could wet the horse rag into her
- 55:34Speaker 19: water so he'd keep her tied up longer without having
- 55:37Speaker 19: to untie her.
- 55:38Speaker 3: And what was the purpose of that?
- 55:40Speaker 4: So she couldn't yell and scream.
- 55:41Speaker 2: According to Wade's cellmates, KJ initially fought back against Wade's mistreatment.
- 55:46Speaker 2: When she threatened to go to the police, Wade amped
- 55:49Speaker 2: up his efforts to silence her.
- 55:51Speaker 25: Wade started tying her up and keeping her to where
- 55:53Speaker 25: she couldn't go anywhere.
- 55:54Speaker 4: Like, she didn't go outside, she didn't go nowhere. Mm-hmm.
- 55:59Speaker 2: It seems that Sherry had been right all along.
- 56:02Speaker 7: I think that.
- 56:06Speaker 22: He was keeping her in there and not wanting anybody
- 56:09Speaker 22: to see her.
- 56:11Speaker 2: According to his cellmates, the truth behind KJ's death was
- 56:14Speaker 2: so twisted, so unimaginably brutal, that it kept them up
- 56:18Speaker 2: at night. In fact, after they heard Wade's latest retelling
- 56:21Speaker 2: of events, the men took shifts sleeping, making sure there
- 56:24Speaker 2: was always someone keeping an eye on him. His cellmates
- 56:27Speaker 2: said that after Wade choked KJ to the brink of death,
- 56:30Speaker 2: she lost her motor function, the ability to speak, and
- 56:33Speaker 2: the ability to control her bowels and bladder.
- 56:36Speaker 14: Then.
- 56:37Speaker 2: She remained alive in this helpless state for around two
- 56:40Speaker 2: weeks before her death.
- 56:42Speaker 24: He said he didn't know if it killed her, but
- 56:45Speaker 24: he had to smack her to get her to come back.
- 56:49Speaker 24: And I guess she never actually came back. She came back,
- 56:52Speaker 24: but she wasn't there. So, and that's, you know, she
- 56:57Speaker 24: wasn't coherent.
- 57:00Speaker 4: You know, she was.
- 57:02Speaker 24: She never talked again to him, but he got her
- 57:06Speaker 24: to breathe again.
- 57:07Speaker 2: And in the meantime, according to another cellmate, she suffered unspeakably.
- 57:12Speaker 19: A couple times he went in there and just put
- 57:14Speaker 19: his hand over her face and nose to see if
- 57:16Speaker 19: he could, he said, but she wouldn't die, like she.
- 57:18Speaker 3: Didn't want to die.
- 57:20Speaker 2: According to another man housed with Wade, he even seemed
- 57:22Speaker 2: to regard her suffering as an inconvenience for him. Bit
- 57:34Speaker 2: by bit, police are beginning to piece together the gut-wrenching
- 57:37Speaker 2: reality of KJ's last days. While Wade claimed to have
- 57:40Speaker 2: been attempting to feed her and care for her in
- 57:43Speaker 2: her state of helplessness, this was a complete lie, and
- 57:46Speaker 2: in fact, he was torturing her.
- 57:49Speaker 27: They got to the point where he was laying in
- 57:50Speaker 27: bed one day, and he felt the need to take
- 57:54Speaker 27: a torch that he had, and he said he burned
- 57:56Speaker 27: her tongue, her clothes, and her nipples so that she
- 58:03Speaker 27: would never feel arousal from another male again.
- 58:06Speaker 19: He said he even put her in a bathtub and
- 58:08Speaker 19: dumped scalding hot water on her feet to see if
- 58:10Speaker 19: she had any movement, and she wouldn't move, scream, or nothing.
- 58:13Speaker 19: He said it was so hot that he boiled the
- 58:15Speaker 19: water and dumped it on her. He said it burnt
- 58:17Speaker 19: her skin and everything right off of her.
- 58:19Speaker 27: Since she was not bothered by it no more, he
- 58:22Speaker 27: had to take it a step further to show her
- 58:24Speaker 27: that when she was in the wrong, she was in
- 58:26Speaker 27: the wrong.
- 58:27Speaker 2: The informants say that this is precisely when Wade injured
- 58:29Speaker 2: KJ to the point of her incapacitation and eventual death.
- 58:33Speaker 19: He said no matter what he did to her, that
- 58:35Speaker 19: she had no movement.
- 58:36Speaker 4: Eventually, she just passed on her own.
- 58:39Speaker 2: Somehow, even after KJ's death, the hellish scene in Wade's
- 58:42Speaker 2: apartment wasn't over. In fact, according to his cellmate, he
- 58:46Speaker 2: wasn't even close to finished with KJ. It was then
- 58:49Speaker 2: that Wade sunk to a low so unbelievable that his
- 58:52Speaker 2: cellmate struggled to find the words.
- 58:55Speaker 4: He'd warm the body up and.
- 58:57Speaker 24: Have sexual relations with it or whatever you want to
- 59:01Speaker 24: call it.
- 59:02Speaker 4: You know, that's just, I didn't, you.
- 59:04Speaker 24: Know, I didn't, I was like, geez, you know, I
- 59:06Speaker 24: wasn't trying to hear any of that, but I'm just.
- 59:10Speaker 4: yeah, he's a monster.
- 59:12Speaker 7: I don't, I mean.
- 59:15Speaker 4: Can we back up to that part? What do you
- 59:18Speaker 4: mean he warmed the body up?
- 59:21Speaker 24: In the tub, he would run warm water on it
- 59:23Speaker 24: and then cool it down with cold.
- 59:25Speaker 4: Water after he did whatever he did with it.
- 59:27Speaker 2: And according to another informant, Wade shared sick details about
- 59:31Speaker 2: his horrific actions openly.
- 59:33Speaker 7: He was like, yeah, he was like, it was kind
- 59:36Speaker 7: of rough at first. He was like, well, her jaw
- 59:38Speaker 7: just eventually.
- 59:39Speaker 26: Opened up and I just took advantage of it before
- 59:43Speaker 26: I had to chop her up.
- 59:44Speaker 3: I was like, whoa.
- 59:46Speaker 2: Meanwhile, as this nightmarish scenario took place, Wade's next door neighbor, Sherry,
- 59:50Speaker 2: started to notice a foul odor drifting into her own apartment.
- 59:55Speaker 22: But then like over the last two weeks, And he
- 59:59Speaker 22: was even sitting there. I said, what is that smell?
- 1:00:02Speaker 22: It smells like something died. Like something's dead. I thought
- 1:00:08Speaker 22: maybe an animal or something. And he goes, well, there's
- 1:00:12Speaker 22: a mouse in my wall.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Maybe it died.
- 1:00:14Speaker 22: First it smelled like gas and it smelled like feces.
- 1:00:20Speaker 22: And then it smelled like death.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: It also seemed that the five or so weeks KJ's
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: body was hidden in the coolers was no accident.
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: He was hoping that sitting in the totes for.
- 1:00:31Speaker 19: Whatever, however long he kept her in there, that.
- 1:00:35Speaker 26: She would decompose enough that it wouldn't show the signs
- 1:00:37Speaker 26: of the bolts on her back and the bruising from him.
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: Wade told you that?
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: AKJ's autopsy revealed multiple areas of bruising, including her chin, neck,
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: and right ear. Her hyoid bone, situated at the top
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: of the neck underneath the chin area, was fractured. This
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: is considered a strong indicator of strangulation due to the
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: rarity of fractures from other types of trauma. Ultimately, her
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: death was ruled as a homicide by unspecified means.
- 1:01:04Speaker 26: He would sit and watch Criminal Minds and talk about,
- 1:01:07Speaker 26: if I had it, I wish I had watched this
- 1:01:10Speaker 26: and I could have done it differently.
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: The way he talked, it seemed like he had done
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: it before.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: According to his cellmates, it was Wade's total lack of remorse,
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: even bragging, that set them off the most.
- 1:01:22Speaker 27: It's out there, man. He's just laughing about it. He
- 1:01:26Speaker 27: can talk about it like it's nothing to it. I mean,
- 1:01:31Speaker 27: he jokes about it, um, Breaks out a police report
- 1:01:35Speaker 27: and lets people, if you're interested in reading something that way,
- 1:01:38Speaker 27: he'll let you read it. And it's just, it's beyond me.
- 1:01:42Speaker 27: I mean, and he said he loved the girl. I mean,
- 1:01:45Speaker 27: you don't love somebody that can do this kind of
- 1:01:47Speaker 27: stuff to a man.
- 1:01:48Speaker 19: Right.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: One cellmate explained that, in addition to Wade's sick, unmerciful behavior,
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: he was so proud of his actions that he felt
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: he deserved notoriety. He nicknamed himself Chops, and he even
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: hoped to write a book. Despite Wade's claims, KJ did
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: have a family, one that was concerned about her well-being
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: and wanted to see her be happy in life.
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: She had a family.
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: And that's good to know, you know.
- 1:02:24Speaker 19: I got to get the emotional part of it, you know.
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: I feel for that.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: I feel for her family. I completely agree.
- 1:02:30Speaker 7: So do I.
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just happy that I got to talk to you.
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: Sherry expressed her horror that she didn't see this coming.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I didn't think he could do something like that. But
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: you don't know people. I mean, Ted Bundy, everybody liked him, too.
- 1:02:45Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: When Wade's case went to trial, the first two searches
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: of Wade's apartment were deemed unconstitutional on the grounds that
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: Wade may have felt threatened during his detainment. It was
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: also discovered that police officers falsely claimed to notice an
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: odor coming from Wade's apartment in their reports. These claims
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: were later recanted. Although Wade's defense aimed to suppress evidence
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: obtained as a result of these initial searches, the appellate
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: court ultimately ruled against them, stating that the discovery of
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: the coolers was inevitable with a warrant. which at that
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: point was already justified. In 2023, Wade was convicted of
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: murder in the second degree, as well as mutilation of
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: a dead body. He pled no contest and was sentenced
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: to 39 to 60 years in prison. But Wade's brutality
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: didn't stop with KJ. He was also convicted of third
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: degree criminal conduct after assaulting a fellow inmate in 2020.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: Once he discovered that his cellmates had spoken to police,
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: he attacked one of the men.
