- 0:19into the conversation about non alcoholic beverages, the sober

- 0:29passion plus purpose can save your life.
- 0:32We dive deep into addiction, identity, entrepreneurship, and
- 0:35why non alcoholic drinks are exploding across North America.

- 0:46I want to add a disclaimer to this episode as well.
- 0:49We talked about 12 step recovery.
- 0:51Please keep an open mind. We realize that there are many
- 0:54paths up the Recovery mountain and we do not endorse or
- 0:57represent any program or organization.
- 1:00It is simply an experience that works for us.
- 1:02Enjoy the show. Hi, Jordan, how are you doing?
- 1:21I'm doing well, Thanks. Thank you so much for coming in.
- 1:24I really appreciate. You know, I always I have to say
- 1:27this because I messaged you, I reached out to you online and I
- 1:30love what you're doing. I love what you're doing with
- 1:31team spirits. I'm very interested in this non
- 1:34alcoholic beverage trend seems to be really growing and there's
- 1:37a whole people are people are throwing all these like
- 1:39vernacular at me that I've never heard.
- 1:41Like you said something yesterday, like I forget what
- 1:43you said, but you'll it'll probably come up.
- 1:45But like this sober movement, right, Like and sober curious.
- 1:50I kind of knew. I've heard that that's sober,
- 1:52serious, mindful drinking. That was the one mindful
- 1:56drinking. I was like.
- 1:57There's a whole mindful drinking fest now, like a festival that
- 2:00you can go to where it's all of it.
- 2:01It was in DC. This.
- 2:04Year and So what have you been? I haven't been, but we actually
- 2:08go right into plugging my product.
- 2:09Yeah, let's go. Yeah, let's get to the real
- 2:11deal. Team spirits I love.
- 2:14Them we, we, we partnered with Derek Brown, who actually owns
- 2:17Mindful Drinking Fest. And so Derek Brown is a famous
- 2:20mixologist based in the state, based in DC, and he's all about
- 2:24mindful drinking. Really comes from the
- 2:26hospitality world, was a bartender for years and kind of
- 2:31helped us create our beverages. But yeah, so he has this whole
- 2:34mindful Drinking Fest, which is all about, you know, adaptogen
- 2:37beverages and kind of all these different types of beverages and
- 2:42different ways to sort of socialize.
- 2:44And the adaptogen, I know I knew this because I was talking to
- 2:47somebody else. I'm learning so much again.
- 2:48Yeah, there's these beverages that have like ashwagandha and
- 2:51Honda and all these like nootropics, if you will.
- 2:55Yes, all of that. Now Team Spirits doesn't have
- 2:56any of that. For us, it was really about like
- 2:58a flavor first beverage that really mimicked a cocktail, like
- 3:01a classic cocktail with still adult beverage and stuff like
- 3:04that. But yeah, there's a ton of that
- 3:06going on right now. You know, the adapted caffeine,
- 3:09I may have had one just before I got here.
- 3:11I'm like, but yeah, I know. It's amazing how you're actually
- 3:15able to kind of you do a ton with drinks these days.
- 3:20That's awesome. Yeah.
- 3:20And I know that there was some, like negative press around it in
- 3:24the beginning with TikTok and stuff.
- 3:25She was telling me, this is the lady that owns Sober Market.
- 3:29And she was telling me that all these TikTok people were like,
- 3:31oh, you're going to get buzzed off of this stuff if you start
- 3:33drinking it. And as soon as you start talking
- 3:34about that, I was like, hey, I need to stay away from that.
- 3:36But I mean, that's probably not the case.
- 3:38You know what? I consider myself completely
- 3:39100% sober serious, and I still will will have an adaptogen
- 3:45drink. Now, I'm not going to have any
- 3:46of these like mushroom this or that, but like some of these
- 3:49adaptogen drinks that have again, caffeine or ashwagandha
- 3:55or anything like that. You don't get a buzz.
- 3:56You just got a, I'm going to say the word high, but in a very
- 4:00just like a lifted. Yeah, like a lightness.
- 4:03Almost. Yeah.
- 4:04Yeah, but not in a. Yeah, and, and what it's
- 4:06probably doing is just calming your anxiety that you didn't
- 4:09know was even there in the first place.
- 4:10Trust me, I know it's there but. Yeah.
- 4:12Well, that's cuz you've done a lot of work though I would
- 4:14assume, right, this is true. So why don't you tell us a
- 4:16little bit about I guess how you got into to recovery?
- 4:20Yeah. And then how you got into the
- 4:23non alcoholic beverage market A. 100% So Anthony, I always say I
- 4:27had the gift of desperation. I love that.
- 4:30Yeah, that's a good one. Gift of desperation, I had no
- 4:32other choice but to get sober. I the longest story short, I got
- 4:38into a drunk argument with my brother-in-law who means the
- 4:40absolute world to me. So this is my sister's husband,
- 4:42my younger sister's husband, which I'm not married.
- 4:46So it starts this whole like reason for my drinking and stuff
- 4:49like that. But nevertheless, my my
- 4:51brother-in-law has his own story with with addiction and alcohol
- 4:56addiction and within his own family, he lost someone very,
- 4:59very close to him due to alcoholism.
- 5:02And he was sort of picking up on all my signs.
- 5:04I couldn't hide from this guy anymore.
- 5:06He just said, you know, you done?
- 5:09And I just one day said, yeah, kind of to appease him.
- 5:14And then what happened was he marched me to a meeting.
- 5:19I pre drank for it of course. That's the best way to prepare.
- 5:23Yeah, it was like, I know what I know.
- 5:25So I showed up. I showed up buzzed, but then I
- 5:28learned about the freaking chips that you get at these meetings
- 5:32and the attics that I am. I wanted those chips.
- 5:35So I couldn't go up and get one. My 24 hour chip, of course,
- 5:39because I showed up wasted. But it became the reason to get
- 5:46sober. I wanted to, I wanted to collect
- 5:47all 12. I wanted to be on a pedestal.
- 5:50I wanted to be this like golden child that my parents always
- 5:53thought that I was again. And so 24 hours later I showed
- 5:58up to a meeting in Port Perry, all my family in tow, my mom, my
- 6:02dad, my brother-in-law, my brother, like all came to this
- 6:05meeting and I went up and got my 24 hour trip and I have been
- 6:09sober for 587 days since. That's awesome.
- 6:13Wow, what a great story they're probably so happy to see you
- 6:16get. Oh my God, tears coming down my
- 6:19parents face. It was just, it was huge.
- 6:22I remember you're reminding me of my SO I had, I had told you
- 6:26this, and I say this all the time, but just for context, I
- 6:28had 7 1/2 years of sobriety and my, my one year medallion, I
- 6:34invited my entire family, like all my, my extended family, my
- 6:38cousins and everybody showed up. Some of my friends that had seen
- 6:41me. I know it was amazing.
- 6:42And they filled up 'cause I'm Italian, right?
- 6:44We're big, we run deep. They filled up the first like 3
- 6:47rows of a 200 person, you know, meeting and it was just a
- 6:54beautiful thing. Like I remember them and I'm not
- 6:57like that close with all of them.
- 6:58So it was a bit of a like kind of uncomfortable situation for
- 7:01them because they, they, I don't think they knew that I was in
- 7:04this recovery path. They knew it got got kind of
- 7:06bad. But some people don't really
- 7:08know just the depths of of addiction and and where you got
- 7:12to, right? Yeah, now did you speak at your
- 7:15medallion? No, I, well, I mean, yeah, I
- 7:17like I said, I didn't do this. I didn't.
- 7:19No, I didn't give the talk. You know who did, though?
- 7:21It was my the counselor that I say he saved my life.
- 7:24A lot of people saved my life, but he got me into my first
- 7:27treatment center. That's.
- 7:28Amazing. I I actually spoke at my one
- 7:29year medallion and I started practicing that speech a week
- 7:34sober. I was like.
- 7:35In the yeah yeah, in the shower. Washing my hair, being like it's
- 7:39a freaking Oscar acceptance. Speech.
- 7:44Yeah. We're so alike.
- 7:45I love it. No.
- 7:47Ego. No, not at all.
- 7:49No, nothing surrounding addiction.
- 7:51So how did you get into to start team spirits?
- 7:56Like how did that come about? Yeah.
- 7:57So I am a serial entrepreneur. I'm also learning that that is
- 8:01very much an addiction. Not an ISM, but an addiction,
- 8:04yeah. I get that.
- 8:06Yeah, part of that. So Serial Entrepreneur owned a
- 8:10branding and social media agency, worked a little bit with
- 8:14my dad as a contractor and we started working with somebody
- 8:19that was doing a non alcoholic wine and my dad does something
- 8:22called a 5C analysis. So he looks at the customer, the
- 8:25consumer, that all of those kinds of blah, blah.
- 8:28Yeah, business jargon, business. Stuff and he's like looking at
- 8:33the category going this is the third fastest growing category
- 8:36in the US right now like why are?
- 8:38We this was a year ago. Yeah, this was a year ago 2024
- 8:41and my dad goes why are we not? I'm like doing this.
- 8:45So we within like a month got everything in order to start
- 8:51Team Spirits. The name super important to me.
- 8:55I think that as you just said, a bunch of people helped save your
- 8:59life. Sobriety is such a selfish
- 9:01individual journey, but you need that team around you to support
- 9:06you. So that's where Team Spirits
- 9:08really comes from. Yeah, and it's just been an
- 9:12absolute blast ever since. We're actually launching this,
- 9:16if this airs next week, we're launching the week after.
- 9:18So it's super exciting. And you're in the US too, right?
- 9:21US and Canada baby. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:23And so is it more brick and mortar sales that you're looking
- 9:26forward to or like online that's?
- 9:27Kind of brick and mortar for sure.
- 9:29So we are right now we are looking, we're projected to be
- 9:33in about 50 to 60 stores in the US and then about 30 to 40 here
- 9:37in Canada just to start for year one.
- 9:39We'll see how that goes. A lot of those non elk bottle
- 9:41shops that are popping up everywhere are really interested
- 9:44in specialty retail is really exciting for us as well.
- 9:47So where else besides the non alcoholic shops that they sell
- 9:50them? Because I didn't even know.
- 9:51So like think of like your high level grocery stores, like
- 9:54Sunnyside Provisions, for example, or like Creeds or The
- 9:58Hut, which is a smoothie and juice bar, Village Juicery, like
- 10:03anything like that where there's kind of that like really cute
- 10:05fridge in the corner. Like we're kind of stocking up
- 10:08there. Yeah, OK, that makes sense.
- 10:10And I wouldn't be surprised if like the Longos or Sobeys or you
- 10:13know, starts to get involved watching do it.
- 10:17Yeah, Yeah. No, it's, it's, I mean you said
- 10:19it's the third fastest growing. Category in the US, yeah.
- 10:23So it's a big deal. It is a big deal.
- 10:25And I don't know if you saw some of the stats too, Anthony, but
- 10:27like non Elk as a beer category is the second largest beer
- 10:32category now next to IPAI think I think I'm not a beer drinker,
- 10:37but I think that was the stat I saw on a very reliable source
- 10:40Instagram. That's awesome.
- 10:46What who are your who are the customers?
- 10:47I'm always curious to and I've, I've always asked this because I
- 10:50had this preconceived notion because everybody thinks like
- 10:53me, don't you know, and is is the everyone does things the way
- 10:57I do them, right? I was under the assumption that
- 11:00it was people in recovery, but I've I'm like pretty wrong in in
- 11:03saying that, right? Yeah.
- 11:04So I have to just plug this because of the 5C analysis.
- 11:07My dad always like there's a difference between customers and
- 11:09consumers. So the customers, of course, are
- 11:12the stores that are purchasing from us.
- 11:13So the consumers daddy are the definitely we're finding that
- 11:19we're getting, you know, the sober curious for sure, people
- 11:22who just want to kind of there's called zebra striping.
- 11:24Have you heard of it where like you drink an alcoholic drink and
- 11:27then you drink a non alcoholic drink and then you drink an?
- 11:29Alcoholic drink to like mitigate the hangover, mitigate the.
- 11:31Hangover. I got kids in the morning, got
- 11:33to go golfing. Got it.
- 11:34Just don't really want you want the hang out, not the hangover
- 11:37kind of deal. Yeah, the toast, not the toxins
- 11:40kind of ideas. So those people are doing their
- 11:42zebra striping. They're big.
- 11:44They're a big client of ours. Yeah.
- 11:47You're going to get the sober, serious people that aren't too
- 11:51serious, you know, too programmed.
- 11:53Because at the end of the day, it can be a trigger for some
- 11:55people. Especially something like Team
- 11:57Spheres, which is a flavor first beverage, which is definitely,
- 12:00you know, emulates the flavors of a Paloma, a Mule and an
- 12:03Aperol spritz. It really is just without the
- 12:05alcohol. So you're going to get the
- 12:07mindful drinkers as well, just people who are, you know,
- 12:10wanting something lower calories, lower sugar.
- 12:12So we really do have this wider audience, pregnant people.
- 12:15Yeah, that's a big one. I'm trying to.
- 12:17Yeah, yeah, yeah. See, and I like to say this too,
- 12:22for me, I have to be very clear of my motive when I'm purchasing
- 12:26and consuming these types of beverages.
- 12:28So for example, today this might change, right.
- 12:31Today I, I don't, I don't mess around with the non alcoholic
- 12:35beer just because it's so similar to me.
- 12:38And I had a problem with beer where I couldn't just have one.
- 12:41Can you relate to that at all? My.
- 12:43Favorite drink is the next. Drink.
- 12:44Yeah, yeah, yeah. So today.
- 12:47Plus, I don't even like the taste of beer, right.
- 12:48But these, these like, you know, these seltzers and soda waters
- 12:53and, you know, a little bit of sugar here and there, that's
- 12:55just refreshing, right? Like it turns out I didn't want
- 12:58alcohol. My body just wants something
- 13:00refreshing. You know, I heard someone told
- 13:02me that the other day, probably on one of my other podcasts.
- 13:04But it's true. It's like, oh, yeah.
- 13:06Like when I can listen to my body today and just actually say
- 13:09no, I don't want vodka soda. Like I just I just need
- 13:13something refreshing. It's hot.
- 13:14I. Just want this yeah, I want the
- 13:16liquid to lips kind of like it's it's a hot summers day like
- 13:19something like poolside. It's just, it's just funny,
- 13:22Anthony, because there's so many like instances where we have
- 13:26alcohol in our hands and it just becomes almost habitual for us.
- 13:29You know, it's like after work, I just want to go to the fridge.
- 13:32I just want to reach for that drink and like take off the
- 13:35edge. It's like, do you really want to
- 13:36take off the edge or do you just need a drink?
- 13:38And that's where it's kind of, you know, it, there's an
- 13:40opportunity there to, to fill your, your glass with something
- 13:45a little bit more, a bit less harmful.
- 13:47Where you'll thank yourself the next day and maybe that night
- 13:50too. Right. 100%, yeah.
- 13:51It's like smoking, right? Like the the studies have shown
- 13:54that it's a lot of it is just this, you know, yes, I need to
- 13:58be preoccupied. Exactly, there's something else
- 14:00going on there. And it's funny you mentioned
- 14:02smoking because my dad actually smoked for 25 years and quit
- 14:06cold Turkey. Wow, and is now I guess it's
- 14:09probably been 20 years since he had a cigarette.
- 14:11And I just I think to myself, you know, everyone says that
- 14:14alcoholism is hereditary and I would argue that sobriety is
- 14:18full on contagious. But with that in mind and
- 14:23thinking just about addiction and I thought to myself, I
- 14:26really use my dad quitting smoking as a huge leverage point
- 14:29for me with alcohol too. I'm like, my dad did this cold
- 14:32Turkey. I can totally do this.
- 14:33It's in my blood. Like, I remember really
- 14:35convincing myself of that along the way.
- 14:37And that that that helped. Me.
- 14:38It helped me, yeah. That's amazing.
- 14:41So what kind of daily habits or rituals do you use?
- 14:47Because I know the work life, the entrepreneurial life is is
- 14:50can be very stressful, time consuming, up and down.
- 14:54Yeah. You don't really know what's
- 14:55gonna happen next. Unpredictable.
- 14:56And I don't know about you, but we like to have control and
- 15:00predict things. I like to know the outcomes.
- 15:02Of things like chaos. Sometimes, too, crave chaos.
- 15:04Yeah. Crave it because it's a
- 15:06distraction. I always say that it's a
- 15:07distraction from how I feel about me, you know?
- 15:11Yeah, I learned that in rehab. So you.
- 15:13Didn't go to rehab but I should have maybe.
- 15:15Well, there's some key takeaways.
- 15:17Yeah, I mean, I needed to because I just couldn't do it.
- 15:19But yeah, I wish I didn't, Right, Obviously.
- 15:23But I learned a lot there. There's a lot of good that
- 15:24happened there. And so, yeah, through
- 15:26journaling, I learned that that like, I crave chaos.
- 15:29Yeah, I do. Yeah.
- 15:30Every day. So yeah.
- 15:31To, you know, what kind of tools do you use to balance that kind
- 15:34of sober recovery life with this work life?
- 15:37Go, go, go. Yeah, it's funny you say that
- 15:39when we were talking about kind of creating like patterns and
- 15:41stuff like that in your day. I've got two dogs, 1 is on my
- 15:44can on my team, so I can Pierre and Bella.
- 15:48And so having them and getting them into a routine has really
- 15:53helped me with like creating, creating just predictability in
- 16:00my day. So it's, it's getting them out.
- 16:02I can come back and sit at my laptop for a couple hours, blah,
- 16:04blah, blah. Like I don't need to necessarily
- 16:06walk you through my day. I think what's important to me,
- 16:08again, I am in a program that's very focused on gratitude.
- 16:12And for me, I can avoid anxiety throughout the day or at least
- 16:16manage my anxiety throughout the day if I start every day with
- 16:19gratitude. And for me, that's just kind of
- 16:21connecting with my dad actually made the suggestion, you know,
- 16:24obviously my dad's a huge part of my life, but on the inside of
- 16:28a book that I have, I every day I write down three things I'm
- 16:31grateful for. I just start my day like that.
- 16:32And The thing is, is when you're writing down those 3 things, you
- 16:35actually can see what you wrote days before.
- 16:39And it's like, wow, this list is getting longer, you know, and
- 16:42I've got a lot to be great I. Have a lot of good things in my
- 16:44life. Yeah.
- 16:46Yeah, it's hard to notice sometimes, especially it's funny
- 16:48you mention that because I do that too.
- 16:50It wavers. But I always have some kind of
- 16:53routine. And this morning, it's funny, I
- 16:54woke up and I was just in one of those agitated moods for no
- 16:58reason. You know, my sleep was a little
- 16:59bit off. I woke up and this is what I
- 17:02notice happens when I'm when it throws off my morning when I
- 17:05pick up my phone before I do anything else.
- 17:08And I'm going through this thing right now just to get current
- 17:11where I'm like obsessing and I need to like figure this out and
- 17:14I'm going to. But I'm obsessing over like my
- 17:17social media channel and this podcast and getting followers
- 17:20and like, and I'm like, Oh my God, this is so exhausting.
- 17:23But also like that needs I met this, I know this deep down, but
- 17:27it it I always go back to that needs to be a byproduct of of
- 17:31what I'm doing here, right? It can't be the reason otherwise
- 17:34I'm screwed. Like it'll never last.
- 17:35That motivation will run out because the minute someone
- 17:37unfollows me, I'll be like that motherfucker, like what?
- 17:40I must have done something wrong, something wrong with me.
- 17:42You know all these thoughts start to go through my mind,
- 17:44right? It's it's, it's, it's relying on
- 17:47other people to make you feel a certain way.
- 17:48About codependency, yeah, I'm good at that.
- 17:51Oh yeah. Same, just ask my boyfriend.
- 17:55You like me, right? I need other people to love me,
- 17:59to feel good about myself. I hate that, you know, it's
- 18:02chasing those vanity metrics, those those follows, those
- 18:05likes, those comments. And if that is what's bringing
- 18:09you joy, like that's I mean, I'm the same way.
- 18:12Like I'm refreshing because I just, you know, post a new photo
- 18:15and you go, it's, it's a lot. Yeah, and it's just like, it's
- 18:18it's like I, we always talk about this on my podcast, but
- 18:21you get to it, you get the car, you get the, you know, the boat,
- 18:26you get the house, you get the kit.
- 18:27Like maybe not the kids, but you get that next thing.
- 18:29And it's like, now I want to yeah, what's the next thing?
- 18:33This is kind of. Before you know it, you're on a
- 18:34TLC. Show.
- 18:34Yeah. Eating couches.
- 18:37Yeah, exactly. I thought that was that was one
- 18:41of them. The girl, she couldn't stop
- 18:42eating the inside of couches. Yeah.
- 18:44It was like, holy, yeah. That that's a condition.
- 18:47It's sad, but yeah, no, that I, I belong there.
- 18:50No, it's funny. I oh, I love it.
- 18:55But yeah. So my, my point with that story
- 18:57was I did get out of it. And this is kind of, no, this
- 19:00works every single time. I went for a walk, right?
- 19:03And I got outside, I got out of my head.
- 19:05I do this, I also do this online meeting every morning with a
- 19:08bunch of guys and I was sitting in it and we do a meditation
- 19:11thing with it. So it forces me to meditate.
- 19:13But I was so in my head that I couldn't even pay.
- 19:16I was doing 10 things and I'm like, I need to get outside.
- 19:18I. Can't meditate?
- 19:19It's tough. Walking is probably the closest
- 19:21thing. I yeah.
- 19:21And it's the same thing, honestly, because I got outside
- 19:23and I'm like, and I'm looking around, I'm listening to music.
- 19:27And of course the song you love eventually comes on or the song
- 19:31you needed to hear comes on and you're like, God, I like, thank
- 19:34God I'm alive. And all these things start to,
- 19:36you know, So that's what, that's what I did to get out of it.
- 19:40You know, it's a beautiful thing that I have a choice today.
- 19:42You know, my only option used to be drink or use drugs, right?
- 19:47That was the only option to solve pain.
- 19:49And now I have a choice. I could always go back and do
- 19:52that. I know that, right?
- 19:54I don't really agree with this notion where people come in and
- 19:55they say I can't drink today, right?
- 19:58Or I, I can't do drugs. It's like, well, no, you can.
- 20:03You have a choice. You're choosing not to, which is
- 20:05more powerful. I get to be sober today is how I
- 20:08like to frame things for myself. Yeah, I love that.
- 20:12So how do you think that this whole trend is reshaping the
- 20:16drinking culture? Like, do you think people are
- 20:18buying into it? Do you think because there still
- 20:21is gonna be that stigma and where you're out at a bar?
- 20:24And I've had this before. We were talking about it
- 20:26yesterday, actually, in my alumni meeting that we do at
- 20:28rehab. One of the guys was talking
- 20:31about how his, the bartender, he used to, you know, go to ask
- 20:35him. She's like, oh, you're not
- 20:36drinking anymore. What happened?
- 20:37And he's like, oh, no, I just don't really.
- 20:39You know, you get that uncomfortable.
- 20:41You don't. How much do I tell this person?
- 20:42Right. I go all out.
- 20:43I'm. I tell them I almost died.
- 20:46It's my blood type. Yeah.
- 20:49You want pictures? Yeah.
- 20:49I'm like, that's me on the floor right there.
- 20:52But yeah, he was like, you know, he's newly sober and he's
- 20:54telling her that. And she, she like, she made one
- 20:56of these. And I've had this happen to me
- 20:57where she was just like that kind of fucking loser laugh and
- 21:02he was like crippled by it. Yeah, I haven't had that yet,
- 21:05but I can imagine people are saying that about my Instagram.
- 21:08I haven't seen it. Yeah, I don't know.
- 21:12There's always gonna be no matter what you do.
- 21:14But I can tell you we would go to when I was helping with the
- 21:19non elk wine for a little bit. I know that we were at like a,
- 21:22an event and we were pouring wine and there are people making
- 21:25comments about like, well, why would I have this?
- 21:26It doesn't have it's a grape juice.
- 21:31All I can tell you is the younger generations are proving
- 21:33that they are drinking less and less.
- 21:36Unfortunately, they're picking up things like vaping and stuff
- 21:38like that. However, fortunately they're
- 21:40picking up things like vaping, you know, like as opposed to
- 21:43drinking. So I know that there really is
- 21:46this like complete wave and movement when it comes to the
- 21:49non al category again, third fastest growing category in the
- 21:52US right now. So.
- 21:53I'm seeing it too. You know, you're seeing it
- 21:55online, but also just there's just when you go to parties like
- 21:59people aren't. Maybe it's because I'm in
- 22:02recovery again, but I just, I'm not seeing people blacking out
- 22:06anymore sloppy like it's just it's less and less.
- 22:08Maybe it's the people I'm surrounding myself with.
- 22:09You've gone home before they do that.
- 22:11Yeah, that too, Yeah. There's a moment in if you don't
- 22:14know this, if you're listening, you don't know this.
- 22:16There's a moment in every club bar event where there's like
- 22:20this threshold in the night that everybody turns from human to
- 22:25zombie. It's like I've, it's like 2-3
- 22:28AM. There's no science behind it
- 22:30yet, but I'm. Sure of it, 100% No, That
- 22:32there's got to be science somewhere like that.
- 22:34Yeah. No, it's it's very true.
- 22:36And everything just like turns right.
- 22:38You're like, who's that guy? I'm, you know, I didn't even
- 22:41notice. Especially true when you go to
- 22:42clubs. And I love dancing.
- 22:43So I still go to clubs and I notice it.
- 22:45Where do you think this is going?
- 22:46Like what, what do you see in the future with this, with this
- 22:49trend? How do you see this ending up or
- 22:51where does it go? I and putting it out there that
- 22:55I think drinking alcohol will be what cigarettes.
- 23:00Was I actually agree with you? Yeah, yeah, I believe that that
- 23:04is where this is going. The thing is, is like, we don't
- 23:07want to freaking Coke like Coca-Cola.
- 23:12We don't want a can of Coke, we don't want a juice box.
- 23:16We want an elevated adult drink. So I think that's where there is
- 23:20room for like a non elk cocktail, like a mocktail, so to
- 23:24speak. But I think ethanol and alcohol,
- 23:27I think being removed from those or at least like in lower
- 23:30quantities is, is, is here to stay.
- 23:33It's, it's not a fad. It's it's, it's an upward trend
- 23:36that's here to stay is how I'm looking at it.
- 23:38Yeah, it's funny that you. I'm happy you brought that up
- 23:40because I've had that thought too.
- 23:42Yeah, I've had that exact revelation where I was like, I
- 23:44bet you in your there's going to be science and data and
- 23:46everyone's like, we never should have started drinking.
- 23:49Yes, well, you know what really sucks, Anthony, is like you
- 23:51think about the messaging behind like smoking kills, and then
- 23:54it's like please drink responsibility.
- 23:56It's like like, OK, but what if I can't?
- 23:59Like I don't know how to drink responsibly.
- 24:01I still I'm that person. I swear to God, where if I left
- 24:04a restaurant and someone left 1/2 drunk glass of wine on the
- 24:07table, I'm like, is it weird if I go drink that?
- 24:09Like, like, probably like it's the first date, Jordan.
- 24:16Just make it to the second or third.
- 24:20I love it. But yeah, no, I just, I, I think
- 24:24messaging needs to shift for alcohol.
- 24:27I love that we're putting warning labels on alcohol in the
- 24:29States now. That was announced back in
- 24:33January, I believe. What does that say?
- 24:34I haven't heard of. That I don't know exactly what
- 24:37it says, but it was the the health, the health man.
- 24:41Yeah. Like the, is it the general
- 24:43surgeon maybe? Yeah, because they have that on
- 24:45cigarettes. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:46General surgeon that. And it just has like a warning
- 24:48on it, like a warning label on. All alcohol being issued, I
- 24:51think it has to be on all alcoholic products by the end of
- 24:53next year. Wow.
- 24:55I'm learning something every day.
- 24:56That's awesome. Yeah, I've learned.
- 24:59This is why I came down here. No, I've learned a lot.
- 25:02This is great. I mean, that that's smart.
- 25:04It's important how we market things to people, right?
- 25:07Like, 100% we shouldn't have doctors promoting smoking.
- 25:11No, I think there's a good reason that that's stopped.
- 25:16But yeah, it's crazy. You go back and you see all
- 25:18those ads, right man? You got any?
- 25:22Like do you have any tips for people that are listening?
- 25:26You know, people that are maybe sober curious or they think they
- 25:32have a problem with their drinking?
- 25:33Like what helped you in the beginning?
- 25:36Other than the chips, I, for me, I, I'm going to say it and I
- 25:43know it's really kind of cheesy, but your new life is going to
- 25:48cost you your old one. Kind of coming to terms with
- 25:52that a little bit, you know, was really difficult for me and
- 25:56early sobriety. But then it's like when you
- 25:58reframe it from what we were just talking about Anthony,
- 26:01where it's like, I don't get to drink.
- 26:03It's like, no, I get to be sober.
- 26:04You reframe it and like you never regret a night that you
- 26:08didn't drink. You know, like I, I'm going to
- 26:12sound so program at this moment, but like just try it today and
- 26:15then just see how long it can kind of go for again, you have
- 26:19that choice. At the end of the day, it's
- 26:21something you can go back to. I read this amazing, amazing
- 26:24short essay about like the stranger asked a sober woman,
- 26:27like what if you want to drink at your wedding?
- 26:30And it's like, but I I want to do this forever, like it.
- 26:33And it's it's the way that she reframed.
- 26:36No, I'm not making sense. No, no, no, you are.
- 26:38You're you're making so much sense that I have goosebumps.
- 26:42I'm sorry I'm making faces at you because I've had this exact
- 26:45thought. Yeah, like if you want to drink
- 26:46at your wedding, what if I, I'm not going to lie to you, I have
- 26:49moments where I and I want to knock on wood, but like, I've
- 26:53never, I haven't lost someone super close to me.
- 26:57I haven't had that level of grief yet, and it's hard because
- 27:03I go, what do I reach for? What tool do I have in my
- 27:06toolbox that I can reach for that isn't alcohol?
- 27:10When I lose a parent, a partner, a sibling, like whatever it may
- 27:13be. When life happens.
- 27:14When life happens, yeah. Because I would pick up when it
- 27:19was a joyful moment, a happy moment, a sad moment, like no
- 27:23matter what it was, there was a reason that I would pick up
- 27:26like, And then it just became a date like daily, right?
- 27:28So just try today. I think it's my.
- 27:33I, I don't think that's cheesy at all.
- 27:35I mean, those slogans, sayings, mantras, there's a reason that
- 27:40they exist and there's a reason why they're pasted on the wall,
- 27:42because they. Work, you know.
- 27:45Yeah, it's just funny because I, I didn't know what face to make
- 27:48because I, I just, I hadn't really it, it's been a while
- 27:52since I've heard someone else say that to me.
- 27:55And I, when I first came in, you know, 10 years ago, that was a
- 27:59that was a ruminating thought in my mind.
- 28:01How am I gonna not drink on my wedding day?
- 28:05I cannot fathom that. And every single person that I
- 28:08surrounded myself with in recovery said that to me.
- 28:11Anthony, just get through today, man, just get to bed.
- 28:15And I used to hate it. I hated it.
- 28:16I. Was Oh, it's still.
- 28:17Not I like the plan, yeah. Exactly.
- 28:20And and this whole again, feel free to cut this out, but like
- 28:23the let go and let God thing like what?
- 28:26Like how like what? Like I have to yeah, I have to
- 28:30be the one that controls this and I need to be the one.
- 28:34And it's like, no, just don't drink today.
- 28:37Sounds good. I can do that.
- 28:40Yeah, you mentioned control is a big one, but letting go, what is
- 28:46that? It's funny because it it's hard
- 28:49to describe it too, but I guess I just I want to get your
- 28:52opinion on what what is letting go look like today.
- 28:57And it's so funny you're asking me this.
- 28:59I could break down and cry because I it's, it's the hardest
- 29:05part of my sobriety. I still haven't figured it out.
- 29:10Letting go is understanding what it's the serenity prayer for me.
- 29:15It's, you know, accepting the things I cannot change and and
- 29:20having the courage to change what I can, but identifying, you
- 29:24know, what is mine to take on and what is what is just.
- 29:28It's just not mine. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:30The wisdom to know the difference.
- 29:31Yeah. That's beautiful.
- 29:33Yeah. It's it's tough to get there
- 29:36sometimes. Yeah.
- 29:36Does that make sense? Yeah.
- 29:37Can I turn it on you and ask you what letting?
- 29:39Go yeah, sure, please. Yeah.
- 29:41I mean, this is a open conversation.
- 29:42No one ever does that. And I, yeah, I appreciate it.
- 29:45And I like to talk. Oh, when I started the podcast,
- 29:48they were like, yeah, you have to be a good listener to be a
- 29:50podcaster. And I was like, oh, maybe I made
- 29:52a mistake here. I suck at listening, but no,
- 29:56it's it's teaching me a lot. Letting go.
- 29:59Yeah, you mentioned a lot of it there.
- 30:01But if I could just say one extra thing on it, I'd probably
- 30:05say and then this, and I learned this from literature that we
- 30:09that we've been talking to people, right, But doing what's
- 30:13in front of me. So the next right thing in front
- 30:15of me and then letting go of the outcome.
- 30:20So just doing the next right thing, you know, doing this
- 30:24podcast today, putting the podcast out there, going home
- 30:29and, you know, telling my wife that I appreciate her right.
- 30:32When I, I saw my first thought, you know, not acting on my first
- 30:36thought. That's a that's a huge one.
- 30:39Right. When I leave here, I'm going to
- 30:40go sit in traffic and if somebody cuts me off or like
- 30:43there is AI have a million things in my mind that I want to
- 30:47do to get that guy or girl back. Like I'm going to win this.
- 30:50And it's all ego, right? So it's like just taking a
- 30:56breath and like, OK, no, don't do that, Anthony.
- 30:59Yeah, yeah. Don't say that.
- 31:00No, I get it. No, I totally get it.
- 31:02I, I, I hear you. I I'm, I'm with you on that.
- 31:07The next right thing. Yeah, and it's sometimes it can
- 31:10be hard, right? That's why I like when you and
- 31:12I'm not going to cut out the spirituality thing because I
- 31:14think it's important. Religion is, is very different
- 31:17than spirituality. A lot of people come in like,
- 31:19oh, well, I don't want to be, I don't like God, he killed my
- 31:22brother or something, right? And I don't mean to make light
- 31:25of that, but it's true. Like I, I hear that a lot, a lot
- 31:27of people are like, God let me down.
- 31:28And you know, that's fair, right?
- 31:30If if you've had a tough upbringing or a tough life or
- 31:32things have happened to you that are out of control, it, that's
- 31:35like a, a common thing to do is like, it's, it, it wasn't caused
- 31:38by you, right? So there's a lesson in every
- 31:41opportunity, I think. And adversity is so important in
- 31:44my life today. Like I wouldn't even, I wouldn't
- 31:46be here without it, because when I get through hard, exactly when
- 31:50I get through hard things, I can do anything, right?
- 31:53And that's one of the reasons. So you, it's funny you mentioned
- 31:55like just being, you know, getting all into something,
- 31:58right? This entrepreneur thing that
- 32:00you're all into. I got into marathon running for
- 32:02a while and I every super person.
- 32:04Yeah. It's a thing.
- 32:04It's a thing. Yeah.
- 32:05And I ran 3 marathons and I used to hate running.
- 32:08Yeah. Yeah, yeah, Yeah.
- 32:10For you. Yeah.
- 32:10It was like, I know I couldn't even imagine doing that before,
- 32:13right? Yeah.
- 32:14I went to LA and I did the LA Marathon with my friend Mike.
- 32:17Yeah, it was good. For you it.
- 32:18Was great. And, you know, I don't, I don't
- 32:21really miss it too much because it took up a lot of my time and
- 32:24it was like, it was very intense.
- 32:26You know, I was eating all the time.
- 32:27There's like a lot of things that came with it.
- 32:29And again, there's I need balance in my life today.
- 32:31You know, I did that with golf too.
- 32:33Balance. I was a bodybuilder.
- 32:34I totally understand the all in. Did you do the meal prepping and
- 32:39stuff too? I.
- 32:39Was I was provincials? Oh, you went on stage?
- 32:41Oh yeah, but that's like the same as running a marathon,
- 32:45honestly. It's very similar I think from
- 32:47what? I get because it's it's 90, like
- 32:49it's 100% of the time you have to be on Yeah, with your eating
- 32:52with your. Eating your workouts, your two
- 32:54days, it's just, yeah, it's a lot.
- 32:55I'm interested, how did you come back from that?
- 32:57Because that, like your relationship with food, must
- 32:59have been. Well, I start.
- 33:01Oh my gosh, this is where I get crazy.
- 33:03But again, I lean into the isms of the program and I learned so
- 33:06much about me and just my addictive behaviors.
- 33:10I have struggled with an eating disorder, so getting into
- 33:13something like bodybuilding was actually not a healthy choice
- 33:16for me at all. How did I bounce back?
- 33:18I I started getting into running after I finished.
- 33:24I didn't want to go on the national stage.
- 33:25I stopped at provincials. I did get into running myself as
- 33:28well. I kind of maintained fitness,
- 33:31but then my drinking took off. The funniest thing is you don't
- 33:36drink when you're on prep, which is another thing I leaned into.
- 33:39There are periods in my life where I was successful that I
- 33:42did not drink and that really helped me as well.
- 33:44But. Helped, you know, that you could
- 33:46do it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:48But yeah, my drinking really took off after a year or so
- 33:52after I finished. It's there's always something,
- 33:56right? It's like, you know, I, I always
- 33:57say this, but it's like as addicts, we have 6 garbage cans
- 34:01and five lids. You know, it's like whack A
- 34:03mole. And I always, yeah, I heard that
- 34:04in Utah when I was at my second treatment center.
- 34:07It's true. And I'm always looking for
- 34:09something. It's G1 day now.
- 34:10It's this podcast. It just has to be something
- 34:12healthy and you have to learn how to balance.
- 34:14It yeah, no, I love that. Well, for me, it's Team Spirits
- 34:17right now as well. So yeah, it's passion, right?
- 34:21How? Yeah, I mean, I was like, it's
- 34:24hard to like finding passion is important, I think in sobriety,
- 34:28right? This one kind of found you a
- 34:30little bit right, But. I think that it's, it's one of
- 34:34those things and it feels like this podcast is, is it for you
- 34:37as well? It's, it's, it's the cornerstone
- 34:38of your passion and your purpose.
- 34:40And when you marry those two, like at the end of the day, like
- 34:43social media management and influencer marketing and brand
- 34:46development, like that wasn't necessarily my passion and my
- 34:51purpose. Like sobriety has very quickly
- 34:54become like what I believe my purpose is.
- 34:56I, I know that I stayed out of those rooms for a very long time
- 34:59because I didn't believe that I looked like an alcoholic.
- 35:02I'm too young, I'm too female. I'm too this, to that, to this,
- 35:07to that. And I am not an alcoholic.
- 35:10So if I can now be that person that people can look at and,
- 35:13and, and, and be like, oh, I'm in my 20s and my drinking's a
- 35:16little out of control and they can see me and then they can
- 35:19feel more comfortable sort of self diagnosing and identifying
- 35:23as an alcoholic, then my work here is done, you know?
- 35:26Yeah, yeah, I couldn't agree more.
- 35:28I I couldn't really relate to the old white guy when I walked
- 35:31in, right, Like it was hard to kind of I was like, do you?
- 35:34Do you? You're wearing a suit.
- 35:35Like, you're not an alcoholic, you know, alcoholic, to your
- 35:39point, is the guy that lives under the bridge with the.
- 35:40Brown paper bag. Right.
- 35:42And it's not true. This disease does not
- 35:44discriminate, does not whatsoever.
- 35:46I learned that time and time again, and it's important what
- 35:49you said, something that I was I really liked the cornerstone
- 35:53passion and purpose. Yeah.
- 35:54Can you say that again? Yeah, so I just, I feel like
- 35:57this podcast for you is what Team Spears is for me, where it
- 36:01is the cornerstone of my passion and my purpose.
- 36:03Passion and purpose, and then you said marrying those two
- 36:05together. Yeah, and that's where that's
- 36:09where the magic happens. I think, yeah, I think this
- 36:11finding the purpose thing is so important.
- 36:13And yeah, like I have a, we both do, but I can only speak for me.
- 36:18I have a unique gift to offer somebody, right?
- 36:22There's, I don't know, like 80 percent, 90% of the world,
- 36:25probably 80% don't don't know what it's like to have to drink
- 36:30and have to use despite all the negative evidence, you know,
- 36:34everything's worth the the contrary.
- 36:38I have to that thing tomorrow, that wedding that I have to go
- 36:41to that speech that I have to give that engagement party.
- 36:45I have to show up to that wedding.
- 36:47I have to be a best man at it doesn't matter.
- 36:49Nothing matters, right? My wife begging me to stop
- 36:53right. Just my mom begging me to not
- 36:55die. She's scared I'm going to die.
- 36:57None of that matters. Doesn't matter at all.
- 36:59It's yeah, it's cutting, baffling and powerful, like you
- 37:02said. But yeah, you have to get to a
- 37:04gift of the gift of desperation. Yeah, it's true.
- 37:08You, you kind of struck A chord there with me and now I've lost
- 37:13my train of thought, but it's maybe it'll come.
- 37:18Back I talk a lot. Like when you talk I I get a
- 37:22lot. Out of what you're saying.
- 37:22I appreciate that. Thank you.
- 37:24Everything I learned is from other people, everything.
- 37:27And you know, I was talking about this last night, but this
- 37:30first year of sobriety is so important and and I knew that,
- 37:34but now it's being reconfirmed. You know, there's a lot of
- 37:37people in my life. You go to rehab, you stay close
- 37:39with the people after a lot of them relapse and it's so hard.
- 37:43It's really tough because it's like, and I was saying this to
- 37:45my mom the other day, it's like you have the answers to the
- 37:48test. It's this analogy.
- 37:50If I can and the other person is writing the test and you're like
- 37:53yelling the answers at them and they're just like, no, no, no,
- 37:55no, no, no, right. And then not to say that I have
- 37:58the answer to, but like I have a way out.
- 38:00Not today. I have a way out.
- 38:01Right. And it's the the same, you're
- 38:03writing the same test. Yeah.
- 38:05And, and yeah, we have the same answers.
- 38:07I I love that I, I don't know about you.
- 38:10I actually really struggled with I again, I never went to rehab.
- 38:15That was never part of my story, but in my program, my sponsor
- 38:20went out, my my sister sponsee went out again and it's so hard
- 38:31for me to I've they then became a part of my 4th and 5th stat
- 38:36like I, I, I was resentful, I was mad.
- 38:38I was like you and let, but then it's not, I'm not writing their
- 38:43story, you know, it's it's it's hard.
- 38:44It's very hard. Yeah, do you, like, do you feel
- 38:48like you're, you're angry at them?
- 38:50Because, yeah, because they know 'cause when you've been on the
- 38:54other side, it's like I and I get, I guarantee you they were
- 38:57more angry at themselves. And I know you know they were.
- 39:00100% and then it, it takes 2 seconds to look at them coming
- 39:03back in and, and, you know, very upset and you go, yeah, no, you,
- 39:07yeah, you, it's it this disease, like the, the only thing I can
- 39:12kind of compare it to is take your phone, leave it in another
- 39:15room and, and, and come back and sit there and tell me how many
- 39:19times you think about it in an hour.
- 39:21Like, that's the closest thing that that the normal person can
- 39:24probably get to addiction, you know, like it's just, it's, it's
- 39:29all-encompassing. It's all overwhelming.
- 39:31Yeah, I I love that. I never heard that one before.
- 39:33And it's like, yeah, try to go through your day while your
- 39:35phone is at home, right? It's just like what you?
- 39:37Think, go through your day and you're like, yeah, it, it I, I
- 39:40can't even grasp that. And that's what alcohol was for
- 39:42me. But I also like that you
- 39:45mentioned the gift of desperation because just to
- 39:47finish my point, and I'm no, no, I'm happy you jumped in because
- 39:51this is, you know, I'm learning a lot and I love what you're
- 39:53saying. It's great.
- 39:55This woman that I went to treatment with has I just, I was
- 39:58careful in what how to say this right?
- 39:59I don't want to break anonymity or anything.
- 40:01Anyways, this woman I went to treatment with.
- 40:03She had a really bad relapse and I was talking to her like a lot.
- 40:06And you know, she was at the place where I was hotel room by
- 40:09myself. Family abandoned you pissed off,
- 40:12right? And it's just you and, and your
- 40:14drugs and your alcohol and I kind of just, I was like, don't,
- 40:17don't talk to your family right now.
- 40:18Just talk to talk to us because I, I, I will never judge you.
- 40:22I get you. I'm here for you.
- 40:24You want to go to detox? I'll bring you to detox.
- 40:26Like I'm, I'm trying to do all these things because that's what
- 40:27was done to me. And when you're in that moment,
- 40:30it's like loneliness. You, you can't even, loneliness
- 40:33doesn't even describe, doesn't even, can't even describe that
- 40:36feeling. It's just you're like, you know,
- 40:38this small in, in a world, right?
- 40:40And so, you know, I was talking to her the other day and I'm
- 40:44like, are you doing this? Are you doing that?
- 40:47And I wasn't like checking up on her to make sure she was doing
- 40:49anything. But I'm like, kind of just
- 40:50listening to her. Oh, I don't know if I, you know,
- 40:52I have this thing and I'm. And like, all these excuses
- 40:54started to come back and I'm just like, it reminds me of just
- 40:57how powerful this disease. And it's like you were just.
- 41:00And this happened to me too. And, you know, I'm not trying to
- 41:03project anything, but I was just in the darkest depths of hell.
- 41:09And then somebody tells me like, I should probably go to a
- 41:11meeting. And I'm like, yeah, I'm busy
- 41:12that night, right? But it's.
- 41:14Yeah, I do it all the time. It's so cunning, baffling and
- 41:17powerful. Cunning, baffling, powerful.
- 41:19And it's progressive. Yeah, progressive.
- 41:20I think there's a lot of people that need to keep in mind that
- 41:24if it's bad in your 20s, it's worse in your 30s, harder in
- 41:29your 40s, and it just gets progressively worse.
- 41:32And I've also been told I'm, I'm so fortunate that as of today, I
- 41:36have had no relapses since I've got sober, but I've been told it
- 41:40gets worse when you go out. Like the next time it it, it's
- 41:44never it it just it got I'll leave it at that.
- 41:47It gets. Worse and I I'm a proponent of
- 41:49that, like I'm a I'm an example of that.
- 41:51It it does, you know, you try new drugs.
- 41:54I never thought, you know, benzos were never my thing and I
- 41:57was getting too high on stimulants.
- 41:58So I was like, oh, this benzo thing seems interesting.
- 42:00I need to control my state again because of my anxiety.
- 42:04If you've ever done stimulants or anxiety, it's just like
- 42:06through the roof. You're like, I need to balance
- 42:08this. And then it becomes this, you
- 42:09become this like doctor, right. And that's what happened.
- 42:11It's like every day I was like bind.
- 42:13Yeah. Yeah, a chemist.
- 42:14Yeah, exactly. And then my whole thing was I
- 42:17got on the dark web and like all it was just, it was bad.
- 42:19I was getting drugs shipped to my house.
- 42:21But yeah, I can confirm that it does.
- 42:24It does get worse. And I'm, you know, I'm lucky.
- 42:26I'm not dead, right. So, but yeah, life is good
- 42:29today. Not to not to get too dark, but
- 42:31it's it is serious. There is a lot of.
- 42:35That's just it. Yeah.
- 42:36And I think that that's it. It's funny, it's serious, it's
- 42:41dark, it's all of those things. But when you actually walk into
- 42:44a room like, like the rooms that we're a part of, what is it?
- 42:48We're not a glum lot. Like it's just like it's there's
- 42:51such light and beauty and sobriety.
- 42:54And I think that that's one of the things I just really want to
- 42:57emphasize. Fun and recovery is a good one.
- 43:01You know a lot of people come in and the wedding thing is a big
- 43:04one. How am I going to drink on this
- 43:05day or that day? But how do you have fun and
- 43:07recovery? Fitness is a great thing that I
- 43:11really throw myself into fun. I find work fun.
- 43:17I think what the biggest thing for me though, is, is I am now a
- 43:21present aunt, daughter, girlfriend, like you list, you
- 43:25name it, like I'm a present. I'm like actively involved in my
- 43:29relationships. I have like I have a new group
- 43:32of friends. They're all so sober.
- 43:34Like they that is what I do for fun.
- 43:37It's I go out for mocktails a lot because I still I love the
- 43:40restaurant scene. I love that kind of.
- 43:42The buzz. Around it, the atmosphere, like
- 43:44I'm not the person that couldn't look at a bar for, you know, a
- 43:47year like I, I, I can actively go into those settings and feel
- 43:51comfortable. So that part of my life is is
- 43:55huge for me. It's it's my relationships.
- 43:57I, I have fun no matter what I am doing, whether it's a
- 44:00cottage, whether it's again, something just by myself,
- 44:04running, fitness, whatever it may be, I'm I'm able to find joy
- 44:08in it because I don't have this weight of alcohol on me anymore.
- 44:11Yeah, yeah. It's like, yeah, you, you're not
- 44:14a slave anymore, right? Yeah, that's perfect.
- 44:17It's like the the chain analogy, the ball and chain, just
- 44:20everywhere you go, you're dragging it around.
- 44:21That is exhausting. You're, yeah.
- 44:23And then you get sober and there's this freedom and you
- 44:26have all this free time and you're like, I don't know what
- 44:28to do that. And idle time is is nerve
- 44:30wracking. And I love that you mentioned
- 44:31the walks. I go on what I call mock and
- 44:33walks where I have a team spirit and I just drink away and I and
- 44:36I or wake water or something and I go for a walk and that's kind
- 44:40of my meditation. I think it's a good way you put
- 44:42it to clear up that that free time that I have now.
- 44:47Love it. Mm hmm.
- 44:49It's a beautiful thing. That's awesome.
- 44:52I'm gonna ask you some quick questions and then just a few.
- 44:55But say I guess the first thing that comes to your mind.
- 44:58What's? Before I get myself in trouble,
- 45:01I'm like, I'm ready. They're not.
- 45:02They're not like they won't get you in trouble.
- 45:04Maybe they will. It's funny.
- 45:07Sorry. Quickly.
- 45:08I was on another podcast and the the the girl that was doing it
- 45:11did a similar thing. And the first thing I thought it
- 45:13was like, oh, don't judge me, I'm sick.
- 45:17Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing because.
- 45:19Everything was by the way, I am an alcoholic.
- 45:21My first thought is not the best.
- 45:22Yeah. What's your favorite non
- 45:25alcoholic cocktail? Team Spirits.
- 45:27What flavour? Our Paloma.
- 45:30Oh, OK, Paloma. Yeah.
- 45:31Delicious. Awesome.
- 45:32Yeah, I like the the Moscow Mule just cuz I like ginger.
- 45:35Oh, do you now? Yeah, I love it.
- 45:40What's the first thing you do in the morning?
- 45:42What's your morning? Routine first.
- 45:44The first thing I do is I check my phone, but I'm gonna change
- 45:46that now. I'm gonna change that.
- 45:48That was my like a key take away from.
- 45:50That I'll hold you to. It but then it's the gratitude
- 45:52piece yeah, like I open my eyes I'm like yeah, thanks.
- 45:55Not up today I. Love it, I love it.
- 45:58What's a book or a resource that changed your life?
- 46:01The Big Book. Yeah, nice.
- 46:02Me too. I'm just thinking about what to
- 46:07do with that after, but I agree. Let me know if it goes.
- 46:10Every time I read it, it's just it's like, was this always in
- 46:13here? I've I've been reading for 10
- 46:14years and I'm like, I've never read this passage in my life. 11
- 46:18that's coming up to mind right now.
- 46:20And I'll just say it because I love it is like there's a story
- 46:24at the back that the guy was a doctor and he was using
- 46:29narcotics to like kind of manage his own thing.
- 46:31And, you know, you come in and a lot of people are like, we only
- 46:34talk about alcohol and stuff like that.
- 46:35And then I look at that, I'm like, you know, a lot of people
- 46:38were using sedatives and drugs. Like, no, I belong here, right?
- 46:42And, and it's true. We, you do belong.
- 46:43Yeah. It's all the same shit.
- 46:44Same shit, it's just the way we use it but he talks about using
- 46:48up his right to chemical Peace of Mind that that line right
- 46:52there. I just that this last time that
- 46:54spoke to me so. Loudly.
- 46:56Isn't that funny? It.
- 46:57It was always there. Yeah, it was always there.
- 47:00The book did not change. But there's different versions
- 47:02you changed. Yeah.
- 47:02I love that. We don't talk about that new
- 47:04version. I haven't read it yet, actually,
- 47:06but I don't like change. Yeah, it was fine the way it
- 47:11was. That's a whole other issue that
- 47:14we'll we'll get to on the next episode.
- 47:17Yeah. Anthonys gripes with the world
- 47:19man shakes fist that cloud. Ohh man, that's awesome.
- 47:23I had so much fun. Where can we find you, Jordan?
- 47:26I think the I'm like here's my address.
- 47:30And I'm gonna I'll link it in the shoulders.
- 47:31I wanna hear I. I think the the best way to
- 47:33connect would be on Instagram either at Jordan Quinn Instagram
- 47:37or at Drink Team Spirits. Love it.
- 47:40Yeah, love it. That's awesome.
- 47:41Thank you so much. I had a lot of fun today.
- 47:43So much. Yeah.
- 47:44We're the. The universe brings people
- 47:46together and, you know, I think we're a lot of like.
- 47:49So I appreciate that. I need, I need the reminder that
- 47:52there's people like me and you know, I'm not saying that you're
- 47:55sick, but we think very similar and it's just nice to know that
- 48:00I'm not alone. You.
- 48:01Know and and you know you're not alone either, right?
- 48:03So awesome. Thank you.
