- 0:46Dayna Roselli: Welcome to episode 286 of Vegas Revealed.
- 0:49Dayna Roselli: Dana Roselli and Sean McAllister here recording our first podcast of September.
- 0:56Sean McAllister: I know.
- 0:57Sean McAllister: After a very busy uh Labor Day weekend.
- 1:00Sean McAllister: Down on the strip.
- 1:01Sean McAllister: Now, on holiday weekends, we don't normally go down into the middle of the action.
- 1:07Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 1:07Sean McAllister: Per se.
- 1:08Sean McAllister: Right.
- 1:08Sean McAllister: Unless there's something that draws us down there, which is what happened this time.
- 1:12Sean McAllister: And it was jam-packed.
- 1:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah, we were like texting.
- 1:18Dayna Roselli: Uh oh, I was texting you.
- 1:19Dayna Roselli: I'm gonna be like 15 minutes late.
- 1:21Dayna Roselli: We were headed to the Paris, and not only was it packed at Paris, it was packed just to get into the side road to get to the parking garage.
- 1:32Sean McAllister: Right.
- 1:32Dayna Roselli: It was all backed up on Harmon, and then you turn on that Audrey Lane, and it was backed up getting into the garage.
- 1:37Dayna Roselli: And so we kind of were like, oh boy, this is gonna be busy out.
- 1:43Sean McAllister: It was very busy.
- 1:44Sean McAllister: And I said I told you, I thought it looked like I mean, it was like a ton of college-aged uh people who were here on the strip, at least uh there at Paris.
- 1:57Sean McAllister: I was like, oh my gosh, is this like a sorority and fraternity convention that's going on?
- 2:02Sean McAllister: Right.
- 2:03Dayna Roselli: No, when I left our dinner that night, I took a little five-second video.
- 2:07Dayna Roselli: And if you look at the video, it is all college girls in mini dresses.
- 2:13Dayna Roselli: And I thought, oh, I used to look like that when I could wear that.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: Very mini.
- 2:18Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so no, you're right.
- 2:19Dayna Roselli: There, but and and guy friends and groups of people, but it was like to leave dinner.
- 2:23Dayna Roselli: What time did we leave?
- 2:24Dayna Roselli: Like 9:30?
- 2:25Dayna Roselli: Something like that.
- 2:26Sean McAllister: Yeah, 9:30, 10 o'clock.
- 2:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 2:28Dayna Roselli: I felt like I had to weave and bob and get I was getting hit in the shoulder.
- 2:31Dayna Roselli: I mean, it was slammed.
- 2:34Sean McAllister: It was, yes, jam-packed.
- 2:36Dayna Roselli: Jam-packed at the Paris.
- 2:37Dayna Roselli: Um, lots of people gambling, the lobby bars were full.
- 2:40Dayna Roselli: Everyone was getting ready to go out somewhere, whether it was to just hit the lounges or what.
- 2:46Dayna Roselli: But um we'll talk about um our trip to dinner that night at Cherry Rooftop in just a minute.
- 2:52Dayna Roselli: But yeah, we just wanted to point out it was very busy.
- 2:54Dayna Roselli: I'm kind of getting sick of the whole everyone fighting over Vegas is dead, Vegas is not.
- 2:58Dayna Roselli: I mean, listen, we've chimed in, but I'm kind of over the whole thing now because there is no answer.
- 3:03Dayna Roselli: Numbers are down, gambling is up.
- 3:06Dayna Roselli: Certain days it's jam-packed.
- 3:09Dayna Roselli: Maybe other times it's not.
- 3:11Dayna Roselli: We've only seen it busy.
- 3:12Dayna Roselli: I had someone, and I gotta refrain from commenting on social media because I commented under a post and someone wrote me back and was like, get out of the suburbs or something.
- 3:21Dayna Roselli: And I was like, first of all, I don't live in the suburbs, and I actually don't hang out in the suburbs.
- 3:27Dayna Roselli: How many times do I complain when someone's like, meet me at blah, blah, blah in Summerland?
- 3:31Sean McAllister: Oh, you always do.
- 3:32Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I'm not hanging out in Summerland.
- 3:34Dayna Roselli: I mean, I do go to the Boca Park area and stuff like that to work out, etc.
- 3:39Dayna Roselli: But anyway, yeah, I don't know.
- 3:40Dayna Roselli: Everyone like gets nasty if you try and chime in.
- 3:43Dayna Roselli: I was basically saying there was a um, I think it was Perez Hilton that posted like an article about how, you know, there's a dip in tourism.
- 3:50Dayna Roselli: News Nation put it up, blah, blah, blah, Las Vegas.
- 3:52Dayna Roselli: And I said, listen, there's a dip across the board.
- 3:54Dayna Roselli: And I mentioned that, you know, we went to Napa in July.
- 3:56Dayna Roselli: They said they're experiencing the same thing.
- 3:58Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 3:58Dayna Roselli: Las Vegas is a headline because it's a tourist town.
- 4:01Dayna Roselli: And then someone was like, get out of the suburbs and get out of the casinos.
- 4:05Dayna Roselli: It is like completely dead, like off the strip.
- 4:09Dayna Roselli: And I think what they were trying to say was, you know, they might work at a local restaurant or a local retail shop that's off the strip and it's not busy there.
- 4:18Dayna Roselli: And I'm like, well, that's what I was saying is a lot of people are choosing not to travel, choosing to stay close to home, cook at home, things like that.
- 4:26Sean McAllister: Right.
- 4:27Dayna Roselli: Which is, you know, bringing numbers down.
- 4:29Dayna Roselli: But, you know, something like Labor Day weekend, hey, let's go.
- 4:32Dayna Roselli: We're all in.
- 4:33Dayna Roselli: We're gonna, you know, we've been holding back, saving up our money.
- 4:36Dayna Roselli: Now we're ready to go spend it.
- 4:38Dayna Roselli: So anyway, yeah, someone yelled at me, get out of the suburbs.
- 4:41Dayna Roselli: And I was like, all right, I got defensive.
- 4:43Sean McAllister: Well, and I do think that um as we head into fall, it'll be a more true representation of where we really stand with things because summer is historically always a slow time in Las Vegas.
- 4:58Sean McAllister: Once I mean sports is kicking back up.
- 5:01Sean McAllister: The NFL uh this week is gonna start their regular season games.
- 5:06Sean McAllister: That always brings people into town, whether they're watching a game at Allegiant Stadium or they're just coming to watch at uh one of the numerous sports books here in town.
- 5:19Sean McAllister: People always come here to watch sports.
- 5:22Sean McAllister: Right.
- 5:23Sean McAllister: So I think it's going to be uh a much more true representation of where we stand in the in the next few weeks and months.
- 5:32Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 5:33Dayna Roselli: I I was at the pool the other day with a couple that they have their Raiders season tickets and they're like, oh, we're trying to find thinking about like new places.
- 5:40Dayna Roselli: We always go eat somewhere before the game.
- 5:44Dayna Roselli: And um anyway, I don't know, the place they usually go close or something like that, and they're trying to find a new, but they like they were totally looking forward to football season because it's a part of their you know what they do.
- 5:55Dayna Roselli: Um I had a friend write me said they're they're flying in from uh New York City to see Zach Brown in December at the sphere.
- 6:02Dayna Roselli: Great, and it'll be their first trip to Vegas ever.
- 6:04Dayna Roselli: So I'm making them an itinerary, but people are still you know coming.
- 6:08Dayna Roselli: It just depends.
- 6:09Sean McAllister: It does.
- 6:10Dayna Roselli: And so, yeah.
- 6:11Dayna Roselli: All right, let's talk Wizard of Oz.
- 6:12Dayna Roselli: Um, in just a second, first we wanted to mention about Dre's closing because that's a big headline this week.
- 6:17Sean McAllister: Yeah, that's really interesting.
- 6:19Sean McAllister: So uh Dre's has been a fixture at the Cromwell, and before that, Barbary Coast, uh which is going back a little bit, but uh Dre's down in the basement has been there for a long time.
- 6:33Sean McAllister: When it changed over to the Cromwell, they added Dre's Beach Club up on the roof, you know, the pool club.
- 6:40Sean McAllister: Uh well the pool club is going away.
- 6:44Sean McAllister: That's the pool's still gonna be there, but it's not going to be a Dre's property.
- 6:49Sean McAllister: Dre's has taken their operations back underground to the original basement.
- 6:56Dayna Roselli: It's called Dre's After Hours.
- 6:58Sean McAllister: They're focusing on that.
- 6:59Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 7:00Dayna Roselli: I guess it's been there.
- 7:01Dayna Roselli: It's still operating.
- 7:03Sean McAllister: Still operating, yeah.
- 7:04Dayna Roselli: I've been there a couple times.
- 7:05Dayna Roselli: I haven't been in a long time.
- 7:07Sean McAllister: I I uh have very hazy recollections of the times that I was over there down in the basement at Dre's.
- 7:18Dayna Roselli: Well, because I was like, what time is the Dre?
- 7:20Dayna Roselli: First of all, let's look at the operating hours.
- 7:22Dayna Roselli: Hold on.
- 7:23Sean McAllister: Of Dre's after hours?
- 7:24Sean McAllister: Yeah, 2 a.m.
- 7:25Dayna Roselli: to 6 a.m.
- 7:26Dayna Roselli: But that's like viva Las Vegas, man.
- 7:28Dayna Roselli: See, I love that.
- 7:29Dayna Roselli: That's cool.
- 7:30Dayna Roselli: It's something different.
- 7:31Sean McAllister: It is.
- 7:33Dayna Roselli: Um, okay, well, anyway, so yeah, so Dre's Beach Club on top there.
- 7:37Dayna Roselli: It's been open almost, what, 10 years?
- 7:39Dayna Roselli: I think it was I read 10 years, something like that.
- 7:41Dayna Roselli: But um, you know, it's a very particular place, kind, you know, kind of club that probably doesn't fit the genre of Cromwell turning into Vanderpump Boutique Hotel.
- 7:54Sean McAllister: Right.
- 7:55Dayna Roselli: And people had a feeling that it might not be a good fit there and that maybe it would go away.
- 8:00Dayna Roselli: And it does sound like um what they're the pool will still stay, like you said, and it's gonna become more of a luxury experience.
- 8:06Dayna Roselli: And they're gonna it's gonna be a place where you can have events and private parties and stuff like that too.
- 8:11Sean McAllister: Yeah, which it kind of makes sense, especially uh as that property becomes, like you said, of the Vanderpump hotel.
- 8:19Sean McAllister: Uh, I see a lot of like bachelorette events happening up there, a lot of food events, food and wine events happening up there.
- 8:30Sean McAllister: Um that'll be nice up there, actually.
- 8:32Sean McAllister: I mean, that'll be gorgeous.
- 8:33Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it is a nice, it's a nice space.
- 8:35Sean McAllister: It's a beautiful space up there.
- 8:37Dayna Roselli: Yeah, didn't you do a New Year's Eve up there once when you were working?
- 8:40Dayna Roselli: Several New Year's Eves, yeah.
- 8:41Sean McAllister: Up on the rooftop.
- 8:42Sean McAllister: The view's good, right?
- 8:43Sean McAllister: Shunning down, yeah.
- 8:45Sean McAllister: It's beautiful.
- 8:46Dayna Roselli: Anytime I've ever been there, I've been shoulder to shoulder and I can't see past people.
- 8:50Dayna Roselli: It's always packed.
- 8:52Dayna Roselli: And you got to get in that elevator and go up, and oh my gosh.
- 8:55Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's always busy.
- 8:57Dayna Roselli: So anyway, they are closing.
- 9:00Dayna Roselli: I think we saw one content creator say it's they're like laying off and closing in the nightclub business isn't good, but I don't know that that's the case.
- 9:08Dayna Roselli: I think it's not a fit for Miss Lisa Vanderpump.
- 9:11Sean McAllister: Well, and it's part of yeah, just r the reimagination of that entire property.
- 9:18Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 9:19Sean McAllister: And I, you know, like you said, I think we kind of uh assumed when they announced the the Vanderpump thing that something was going to change.
- 9:28Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 9:29Sean McAllister: With the space up on the roof there.
- 9:31Dayna Roselli: So I think it's open for a couple more months still.
- 9:33Dayna Roselli: So if you want to get to Dre's and you haven't been yet, now's the time.
- 9:36Sean McAllister: It is.
- 9:36Sean McAllister: Now is a great time.
- 9:38Dayna Roselli: Well, Sean, what'd you think of The Wizard of Oz?
- 9:41Dayna Roselli: Finally, we can talk about it.
- 9:43Sean McAllister: What a uh spectacle, right?
- 9:47Sean McAllister: It really is that it was an experience like I have not had before.
- 9:54Sean McAllister: The 40 effects, the I mean the way that that movie just it feels like you're in the middle of it.
- 10:03Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it was it was really cool.
- 10:06Dayna Roselli: We enjoyed it.
- 10:07Dayna Roselli: Um everyone has their own take.
- 10:10Dayna Roselli: Um, so a couple of the takeaways.
- 10:12Dayna Roselli: The film is shorter, yes.
- 10:14Dayna Roselli: Um did we miss the parts that were taken out though?
- 10:17Dayna Roselli: I don't know because I had to ask you, like, wait, what parts were missing?
- 10:21Dayna Roselli: Now, I am not a sit there and watch Wizard of Oz annually every single year, and it's part of mine, and I know it like the back of my hand, um, which I'll get to in a minute as well, because that is a part of why I was so moved when I did watch it.
- 10:36Dayna Roselli: But um the one thing though, somebody did say was there were a bunch of songs taken out, and the one with the lion and the courage.
- 10:44Sean McAllister: Yeah, when I, you know, the lion I were the king of the four.
- 10:49Sean McAllister: That's the best part.
- 10:49Dayna Roselli: My friend used to do that in senior study hall.
- 10:51Dayna Roselli: He used to stand on the table.
- 10:53Dayna Roselli: Anyway.
- 10:54Sean McAllister: So that's cut.
- 10:56Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that's cut, and that's true.
- 10:57Dayna Roselli: That is like, I guess that that was a big moment that was cut.
- 11:01Dayna Roselli: There were a lot of little moments cut.
- 11:04Sean McAllister: Yeah, there were.
- 11:04Sean McAllister: There was, um, I think even as Dorothy is starting to go down the yellow brick road, like in the original movie, there was a lot of interaction with the munchkins.
- 11:16Sean McAllister: You know, like follow the yellow brick road.
- 11:18Sean McAllister: Oh, yeah.
- 11:19Sean McAllister: Follow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow brick road.
- 11:22Sean McAllister: You know, and I feel like Wow, you're good at that.
- 11:24Dayna Roselli: You should go in and add in 30 seconds to the movie.
- 11:28Sean McAllister: I think they they cut out some of the follow the yellow brick roads.
- 11:32Dayna Roselli: Yes, they did.
- 11:33Sean McAllister: And that was shorter, and it kind of got right to the song.
- 11:38Dayna Roselli: Yep.
- 11:38Sean McAllister: And Dorothy trotting out of town on the yellow brick road.
- 11:41Dayna Roselli: Yes.
- 11:42Dayna Roselli: I was watching the rundown of different things.
- 11:44Dayna Roselli: Uh a Wizard of Oz expert on TikTok went through everything.
- 11:47Dayna Roselli: And I the beginning, and I did notice the beginning was a little bit shorter.
- 11:51Dayna Roselli: Yeah, there's a bigger piece when the whole Toto and the what's her name?
- 11:55Dayna Roselli: The lady on the bike, the witch.
- 11:57Sean McAllister: Anyway, uh Elvira Gulch.
- 11:59Dayna Roselli: Obviously, we are not Wizard of Oz experts, but here's what I know.
- 12:03Dayna Roselli: I enjoyed it regardless.
- 12:05Dayna Roselli: I don't know that it was like I left going, I really missed that part or this part.
- 12:10Dayna Roselli: Um, but if you are a Wizard of Oz fan expert, maybe it's important to you to have it in.
- 12:17Dayna Roselli: Um, and it was 75 minutes and it felt perfect the perfect amount.
- 12:22Sean McAllister: It really did.
- 12:23Sean McAllister: And uh it it I think with the the effects that they have in there and the vivid colors, that's what I kept hearing people comment about afterward.
- 12:32Sean McAllister: They were like, oh my gosh, the everything was just so bright and vivid.
- 12:39Sean McAllister: And I mean, it takes it's you experience the movie in an entirely new way, and it is an experience.
- 12:47Sean McAllister: Keep that in mind that it's almost uh something you would go and uh uh take part in at an amusement or a park.
- 12:57Sean McAllister: Yeah, like a Universal Studios or uh Yeah, so it's not like you're sitting down in a movie theater to watch the movie, like it is an interactive uh experience.
- 13:08Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 13:09Dayna Roselli: I mean it's quite uh like it's astonishing.
- 13:13Dayna Roselli: Like there were gas and cheers.
- 13:16Dayna Roselli: I mean, it's you are going to love the experience.
- 13:19Dayna Roselli: You're gonna get a tornado with wind and debris, you're gonna get a flying monkey to probably pass in front of you.
- 13:26Dayna Roselli: Apples are gonna fall from the sky, it's gonna snow.
- 13:30Dayna Roselli: We always say this.
- 13:31Dayna Roselli: We don't want to give out too, too much information.
- 13:34Dayna Roselli: And I know you've seen it probably on social media, but if you do want to get a ticket, you want to be a little bit surprised.
- 13:40Dayna Roselli: I know so many people that are flying in and have tickets.
- 13:43Dayna Roselli: We sat in section 200, we were close, but I think personally any seat in there would be great because they section it's really just like the middle sections that are open.
- 13:53Dayna Roselli: And people were saying online that they love 300, they love 400.
- 13:57Dayna Roselli: So really, I mean, we had to look up to see things to see the wizard's face.
- 14:03Sean McAllister: Like, I had to really look up to see that.
- 14:08Sean McAllister: So I do think like the three and four hundreds level seats will give you more of a panoramic view of what's going on, where like 200, you're down a little closer to the screen and you do have to look up up almost in back of you a little bit to see everything that's going on.
- 14:27Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 14:27Dayna Roselli: And you will see a lot of hype online with people saying tickets are so expensive, it's ridiculous, it's you know, price gouging, 299.
- 14:35Dayna Roselli: Don't always believe what you read.
- 14:37Dayna Roselli: I went on to look for tickets for my birthday weekend to bring my mom because she's never been to the sphere.
- 14:43Dayna Roselli: And I there's plenty of tickets for$114 in section, I think it was four, but then people online were also who had actually been to the film saying, I sat in 400, I loved it.
- 14:53Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 14:54Dayna Roselli: You could see a big one.
- 14:54Dayna Roselli: So I mean, it's not like it's a bad seat, but there are plenty of tickets in the hundreds and low hundreds.
- 15:00Dayna Roselli: I think I saw one day there was a 109.
- 15:02Dayna Roselli: So just go around and browse for yourself.
- 15:05Dayna Roselli: Don't always believe what people say about ticket prices and all that.
- 15:08Dayna Roselli: You gotta go look for yourself.
- 15:09Sean McAllister: You do.
- 15:10Sean McAllister: And I think tickets start at 104.
- 15:13Sean McAllister: Is the the starting, and I believe like the average price is around 120.
- 15:18Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 15:18Dayna Roselli: So I saw a lot of 139s, yes, yeah, things like that.
- 15:23Sean McAllister: But yeah, don't think that uh because you're not down in the 200s, that you're gonna get a bad seat.
- 15:29Sean McAllister: I mean if you haven't been in Sphere yet, like you said, Dana, there is not a bad seat in there.
- 15:35Sean McAllister: And if you're going to see something like Wizard of Oz, where you don't have to be up close to a person performing down on the stage, then literally any anywhere in there is amazing.
- 15:48Dayna Roselli: You're experiencing the tornado, the apples are still falling, the monkeys are still flying by.
- 15:53Dayna Roselli: Yeah, all of it.
- 15:54Sean McAllister: You feel the heat from the fire, it's the whole thing.
- 15:57Dayna Roselli: Um, I found it really emotional.
- 15:59Dayna Roselli: I'm just gonna mention that.
- 16:00Dayna Roselli: If you haven't sat, like I said, if you haven't sat down and watched Wizard of Oz, like beginning to end as an adult, you might find some really charming parts that will trigger some emotion.
- 16:11Dayna Roselli: I had tears in my eyes at one point because it was the sweetest thing, and there were all these little life lessons.
- 16:15Dayna Roselli: I thought it was really cute.
- 16:16Dayna Roselli: Um, celebrities that were there.
- 16:19Dayna Roselli: Um Chris Jenner was there.
- 16:23Sean McAllister: Yeah, we saw Chris Jenner.
- 16:25Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 16:26Sean McAllister: In her new work.
- 16:27Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 16:28Dayna Roselli: She looked good.
- 16:29Dayna Roselli: She looked good.
- 16:30Dayna Roselli: Her new face work.
- 16:31Dayna Roselli: Yep.
- 16:32Dayna Roselli: Um, we saw um, listen, it's out there.
- 16:35Dayna Roselli: It is out there, I know.
- 16:36Dayna Roselli: I'm not saying anything that anybody hasn't been talking about.
- 16:38Dayna Roselli: She looked good.
- 16:39Dayna Roselli: She looks amazing.
- 16:40Dayna Roselli: Um, who else was there?
- 16:42Dayna Roselli: Rosanna Arquette.
- 16:43Sean McAllister: Rosanna Arquette.
- 16:44Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 16:45Sean McAllister: Uh Holly Madison.
- 16:47Sean McAllister: Holly Madison, Tia Carrera.
- 16:49Sean McAllister: Uh the girl from Wicked.
- 16:51Dayna Roselli: She was people.
- 16:53Dayna Roselli: I I haven't seen Wicked.
- 16:54Dayna Roselli: I forget her name.
- 16:55Dayna Roselli: But anyway, there were a couple actresses there from Wicked.
- 16:58Dayna Roselli: Um, oh, Brian May of Queen was there.
- 17:01Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 17:01Dayna Roselli: That was cool.
- 17:02Dayna Roselli: There were lots of folks there.
- 17:04Dayna Roselli: And it was an interesting crowd because you realize like it really is the taste of what people like.
- 17:08Dayna Roselli: Edie Falco was there from Sopranos.
- 17:11Dayna Roselli: So it was a good crowd.
- 17:12Dayna Roselli: But the big highlight was Judy Garland's daughter, Lorna Luft.
- 17:16Dayna Roselli: She was there at the premiere and she was kind enough to do interviews.
- 17:20Dayna Roselli: Um, for a while, she really wanted to speak about this.
- 17:23Dayna Roselli: But can you imagine seeing your late mother in this iconic film on a screen this big?
- 17:29Dayna Roselli: How emotional that must have been for her.
- 17:32Sean McAllister: And to see like the image of her mom so uh vividly and clearly up on that screen, like way larger than life.
- 17:45Dayna Roselli: Uh-huh.
- 17:45Sean McAllister: I mean, just fantastic.
- 17:48Sean McAllister: And uh, we did talk with Lorna, and she told us how extremely moved she is by this experience, and that her mother would have approved of all the new technology being used on this project.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: My mother never wanted cameras in her house.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, even home movies, because that was work.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: So this movie is our home movie.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: So I am so honored and I'm so grateful that this fear was in choosing this film.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: I'm excited.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: I'm I it's a bit of a woman.
- 18:44Sean McAllister: Obviously, she embraced technology in filmmaking if she was a part of the original.
- 18:49Sean McAllister: So do you think she would also embrace the technology being used on this reimagination?
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: I mean to move forward.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: So this is this is the same film.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: It's the same film.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: It's just it's the technology that has taken the movie and and and you take the really honestly what they done.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, honestly, they took a movie that was this big.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: And they have blown it up in the people who get the experience of being in the monk.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: And Vegas holds a special place for your family too, right?
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: It does.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: I love Las Vegas, and I have um I've worked here a lot.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: And, you know, my mother loved working here.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: And so Las Vegas has a special meaning to my family.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: And I'm so grateful that this movie is here in Vegas.
- 19:58Sean McAllister: Well, it was great to have Lorna back here in Las Vegas.
- 20:01Sean McAllister: She mentioned that she's performed and worked here for years, as did her mom.
- 20:07Sean McAllister: Um, and something really cool, though uh one of the original pairs of the Ruby slippers were on display in the atrium there uh at Sphere.
- 20:19Sean McAllister: Yeah, they were from the Debbie Reynolds collection.
- 20:21Sean McAllister: Debbie's son, Todd Fisher, lives here in Las Vegas, and uh he made possible uh for the slippers to be there.
- 20:31Dayna Roselli: Great, yeah, and that's for the premiere.
- 20:33Dayna Roselli: Premier night, right.
- 20:34Dayna Roselli: Um that was really cool.
- 20:36Dayna Roselli: I saw you got some video of that because I didn't see it up close, but there was a lot going on in the atrium, and there will be.
- 20:42Dayna Roselli: Um like the Ruby slippers probably won't be there anymore.
- 20:46Dayna Roselli: I think that was just premiere night.
- 20:49Dayna Roselli: Yeah, but there's all sorts of I mean, the the whole atrium when you walk into the sphere, and that's why when you said this is an experience, there's a lot going on.
- 20:57Sean McAllister: The wizard and the everything, it's it's an experience, and it kind of changed over from the time when you walk in.
- 21:05Sean McAllister: It's like an after show out in the atrium once the the movie is done.
- 21:10Sean McAllister: So your experience doesn't end when the movie is over.
- 21:14Dayna Roselli: Well, and I think that's what a lot of people are saying.
- 21:16Dayna Roselli: Well, why did they cut the movie?
- 21:18Dayna Roselli: And they're like, well, to fit in more show times.
- 21:20Dayna Roselli: And other people are like, that's greedy.
- 21:21Dayna Roselli: Well, it's not, it's not, it's they want to give more chances for people to see this film, and it isn't just the film, right?
- 21:29Dayna Roselli: It's before and after, and they need to allot that time for you to have an experience.
- 21:34Dayna Roselli: So um, we loved it.
- 21:35Dayna Roselli: I thought it was great.
- 21:36Dayna Roselli: And you know, if if you are like, it has to be exactly like then don't go.
- 21:40Dayna Roselli: But you know what?
- 21:41Dayna Roselli: For us, for those of us who have gone and probably will return, it is quite an experience.
- 21:46Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 21:47Sean McAllister: And uh just in terms of the uh the use of AI to uh bring the film to life on such a huge screen, uh, like you see at Sphere, yes.
- 22:00Sean McAllister: There are times when you can tell that AI was used, but from my point of view, because it is an experience, almost like an attraction experience, like we talked about, it didn't bother me.
- 22:14Sean McAllister: If it was like a theatrical release that was gonna be in every movie theater across the country, d I would probably have feelings about it.
- 22:23Sean McAllister: But I thought that it was a brilliant use of technology to make this experience happen at the sphere.
- 22:30Dayna Roselli: Well, they're not hiding it.
- 22:31Sean McAllister: No, not at all.
- 22:32Dayna Roselli: You go in knowing it, right?
- 22:33Sean McAllister: Exactly.
- 22:34Dayna Roselli: So let's talk about that.
- 22:35Dayna Roselli: There's been a back and forth about artificial intelligence, you know, to help bring this classic film to life.
- 22:40Dayna Roselli: Well, we did ask uh two people on the yellow carpet about this, two important people.
- 22:46Dayna Roselli: One, James Dolan, the executive chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment, and also Carolyn Blackwood, the head of Sphere Studios.
- 22:55Dayna Roselli: We talked to them about the use of this technology and, you know, if this was always in the plan.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: You know, I think it's going to change some things.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: I don't think anything is ever going to change the human performance.
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: And maybe a good example of this is Judy Garland in this movie.
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: Because Judy Garland in this movie, her performance is unbelievable.
- 23:17SPEAKER_03: And the technology just enhanced it and brought it out of the that old film.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: And you'll see you're gonna fall in love with Dorothy and Judy Garland tonight, I guarantee you.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: Where does this rank in the capabilities of what you can do?
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: Okay, this is right at the edge now.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, we we there's there's the one we do after this will be completely different with a completely different feel, etc.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: But the uh this you know, every time we do something, it it goes further and further, and this one is definitely the furthest right now.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: Um I'd actually think it's gonna be quite a while before anybody surpasses this.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: We have to continue to think about ways to push the technology all the time.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: And update things, but before the effects are today, maybe they're gonna see some new ones in those six months from now.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: So for us, it's about the sort of ability to continue to sort of ideate and iterate on this incredible, incredible production.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: Everything from you to the back from everything.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, you guys are always doing the idea to do something different along the way.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: 100%, that's correct.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, keeping things diverse and different, that's what keeps us interesting, right?
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're always we don't we need to please, but we also always want to like bring wonder to the world.
- 24:33Sean McAllister: So I think that's kind of exciting to hear that the 4D effects that take place throughout the film might change over time.
- 24:42Dayna Roselli: Right, exactly.
- 24:43Dayna Roselli: And we were there I th um, you know, opening night, and the people behind us said they saw the family and friends night, and it they'd even made some little tweaks from day to day.
- 24:52Dayna Roselli: So I'm sure they're gonna take feedback too.
- 24:55Dayna Roselli: So nothing wrong with feedback and you know, and making changes as people.
- 24:59Dayna Roselli: That's just like anything, even when a hotel opens.
- 25:02Sean McAllister: That's what happens with every theatrical.
- 25:04Sean McAllister: I mean, if some if a show opens on Broadway, if you see it on opening night, it's gonna be different if you go back in a month or two.
- 25:11Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 25:11Sean McAllister: That's just how theater and production works.
- 25:15Dayna Roselli: It's good.
- 25:16Dayna Roselli: I love I love what they're doing over there.
- 25:18Dayna Roselli: I think this is I think this is cool.
- 25:20Dayna Roselli: Um, okay, let's go back to why we were at Paris on Saturday night of Labor Day weekend.
- 25:25Dayna Roselli: Uh, we went to Sherry Rooftop.
- 25:27Dayna Roselli: It's an outdoor restaurant, um, a couple levels up there in the Paris, so you get a view of the fountains across the street and the strip.
- 25:34Sean McAllister: You're literally at the right under the Eiffel Tower.
- 25:37Dayna Roselli: Yeah, literally, you're right.
- 25:40Dayna Roselli: Um, and uh we went there because we haven't been yet, and also because they're doing this new is it called Shaken and Seared special.
- 25:51Sean McAllister: And Sean's ears perked up because the shaken is in reference to martinis, yeah, shaken and seared and the seared is because they pair the martini with a steak.
- 26:02Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 26:03Sean McAllister: I am all about martinis and steaks.
- 26:07Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 26:08Dayna Roselli: Um, so it's$49 for this special, okay?
- 26:12Dayna Roselli: And it's steak, frites, and a martini.
- 26:18Dayna Roselli: Now that's a pretty good deal.
- 26:20Dayna Roselli: Now you can upgrade.
- 26:22Dayna Roselli: So it starts at$49.
- 26:23Dayna Roselli: If you wanted to get like a filet instead of something else, it was like add on another$20.
- 26:28Dayna Roselli: Um, but and things like that.
- 26:30Dayna Roselli: But it it's it's a good deal.
- 26:32Dayna Roselli: And especially because you're getting the vibe, you're getting the outdoor seating, and then you're getting a great meal.
- 26:41Sean McAllister: So the um the$49 uh deal is a 10-ounce prime flat iron steak plus uh the fritz, plus your choice of signature martini.
- 26:55Sean McAllister: You can get a vodka martini, a gin martini, or an espresso martini.
- 27:00Sean McAllister: That's good.
- 27:00Sean McAllister: And that comes out with your meal.
- 27:03Sean McAllister: Uh and the the fritz, by the way, are hand-cut duck fat freaks.
- 27:09Dayna Roselli: They were really good.
- 27:11Dayna Roselli: That was good.
- 27:12Sean McAllister: They were good.
- 27:13Sean McAllister: So good.
- 27:14Dayna Roselli: I mean, my whole thing.
- 27:16Dayna Roselli: I didn't even have one left.
- 27:18Sean McAllister: Yeah, I don't think I did either.
- 27:19Sean McAllister: And uh, as far as steaks go, like you said, Dana, you can upgrade to a filet or a bone and ribeye.
- 27:27Sean McAllister: Um, and then you can add on, you know, some sides too.
- 27:30Sean McAllister: You can add on a lobster tail, you can add on grilled prawns.
- 27:34Sean McAllister: Um, but 49 bucks for that steak, martini, and fritz, that's a great deal.
- 27:40Dayna Roselli: It is a good deal.
- 27:41Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 27:42Sean McAllister: And you get a great view.
- 27:44Sean McAllister: There's good atmosphere.
- 27:46Sean McAllister: There was a DJ up there playing some music.
- 27:49Sean McAllister: The misters were going, so it wasn't too hot.
- 27:52Sean McAllister: Right.
- 27:52Sean McAllister: And especially once the sun dips down.
- 27:54Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 27:54Dayna Roselli: I mean, it was a warm night too.
- 27:56Dayna Roselli: So I think right now that we're mentioning this, as fall is approaching, perfect weather in Vegas, low 90s, high 80s, low 80s, it's gonna be a hot spot for sure.
- 28:07Dayna Roselli: I loved the chopped salad that we got too, and we got that.
- 28:10Dayna Roselli: See, this is why we aren't foodies, because I didn't write down the name of the shrimp snack we got.
- 28:15Dayna Roselli: It was under snacks, it was spicy.
- 28:16Dayna Roselli: Ugh, it was delicious.
- 28:18Dayna Roselli: Uh it's okay.
- 28:18Dayna Roselli: They'll they'll know.
- 28:19Sean McAllister: Look for the spicy it's like the firecracker shrimp.
- 28:23Dayna Roselli: Something like that.
- 28:24Sean McAllister: Um, it is.
- 28:25Sean McAllister: It's on the snack portion of the menu.
- 28:28Sean McAllister: They were so good.
- 28:29Dayna Roselli: That was so good.
- 28:31Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 28:31Sean McAllister: It was like the tempura shrimp with a little um like a spicy aioli sauce on them.
- 28:37Dayna Roselli: And there's a lot in there too.
- 28:38Dayna Roselli: So it's a good snack.
- 28:39Dayna Roselli: It's a good size.
- 28:40Dayna Roselli: I mean, we had four four people at the table and we could all share it, and it was enough.
- 28:44Dayna Roselli: Um, so that was great.
- 28:45Dayna Roselli: We had some great desserts.
- 28:47Dayna Roselli: Um, the staff was great there.
- 28:48Dayna Roselli: So it's nice.
- 28:49Dayna Roselli: I think you know, something different.
- 28:51Dayna Roselli: If a lot of people look for patio restaurants with a view on the strip, and I think this is a great choice.
- 28:56Dayna Roselli: I used to go there back when it was Chateau Nightclub.
- 28:59Dayna Roselli: So I actually hadn't been back in a long time, and I was happy to get there.
- 29:02Dayna Roselli: So we had a lot of fun.
- 29:04Dayna Roselli: And um, you might want to check out that special.
- 29:07Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 29:07Sean McAllister: And by the way, I did just look it up, Dana.
- 29:10Sean McAllister: It's the crispy firecracker shrimp.
- 29:12Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 29:12Sean McAllister: So that is that is what they're called.
- 29:15Dayna Roselli: I always say, this is why we aren't foodies, we aren't influencers.
- 29:22Dayna Roselli: Oh, I sometimes I forget.
- 29:24Dayna Roselli: I snap a picture and then I get a little video and I talk about it, and it's in my mind, but sometimes I'm really bad with names.
- 29:31Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 29:31Dayna Roselli: Well, listen, uh, across the street over at Park MGM, Bruno Mars is returning for some shows in December.
- 29:38Dayna Roselli: And we know you love Bruno.
- 29:41Dayna Roselli: Uh, tickets are on sale now.
- 29:43Dayna Roselli: He is actually doing Tuesday, December 30th, and then New Year's Eve.
- 29:47Dayna Roselli: He usually does New Year's Eve, doesn't he?
- 29:49Sean McAllister: He does.
- 29:50Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 29:50Dayna Roselli: So he's doing it again.
- 29:52Dayna Roselli: Um, and as I said, tickets are on sale.
- 29:54Dayna Roselli: Those shows go quick.
- 29:55Dayna Roselli: You gotta get on it, and that's why we figured we'd throw that in today's audio podcast.
- 29:59Sean McAllister: And by the way, Bruno Mars is a nominee for the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards.
- 30:05Dayna Roselli: He is.
- 30:05Dayna Roselli: And I was saying, or like, Bruno really hasn't come out with a solo song in a long time.
- 30:09Dayna Roselli: How and he's still getting nominated for awards, but he did a duet with Lady Gaga.
- 30:14Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 30:14Dayna Roselli: And then he did that duet um with for the song with Apt, or is it called Apt?
- 30:21Dayna Roselli: With Rose, Rose, Rose, or whatever.
- 30:23Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 30:27Dayna Roselli: That one.
- 30:28Dayna Roselli: Um, so he's up nominated for that too.
- 30:33Dayna Roselli: No, it sticks in your head all day.
- 30:34Dayna Roselli: Stop.
- 30:35Sean McAllister: I know.
- 30:35Sean McAllister: Now it's gonna be uh but yeah, good for him nominated.
- 30:39Dayna Roselli: Lady Gaga's nominated all over the place.
- 30:41Dayna Roselli: And guess what?
- 30:42Dayna Roselli: Backstreet Boys nominated for a VMA.
- 30:46Dayna Roselli: How good does that have to feel?
- 30:48Dayna Roselli: Listen to our what?
- 30:49Sean McAllister: Like best band?
- 30:50Sean McAllister: Best group.
- 30:51Sean McAllister: Best group.
- 30:52Dayna Roselli: I mean, I'm so happy.
- 30:53Dayna Roselli: We just interviewed Nick Carter in our last podcast.
- 30:55Dayna Roselli: Great interview with Nick.
- 30:56Dayna Roselli: He's on Cloud9 and said he did not expect this.
- 31:00Dayna Roselli: He was just grateful to be playing the sphere to begin with.
- 31:04Dayna Roselli: And then now they have just taken Las Vegas and the world by storm again with this resurgence, and now they are nominated for best group.
- 31:13Dayna Roselli: You gotta go on the MTV Insta stories and vote for them.
- 31:17Dayna Roselli: I've already voted you can vote once a day.
- 31:19Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 31:20Sean McAllister: I that just makes me smile.
- 31:22Sean McAllister: I'm so happy for them.
- 31:23Sean McAllister: So I mean, they've gone from I mean, they never really were away.
- 31:28Sean McAllister: They had a uh residency that they sold out back in what 2017 over at Planet Hollywood.
- 31:37Sean McAllister: That was a smashing success.
- 31:38Dayna Roselli: It was, but they weren't a headline on entertainment.
- 31:43Dayna Roselli: You know what I mean?
- 31:44Dayna Roselli: Yes, I know what you mean because of the residency, you know, or like when they were at Planet, you know, I mean they're literally a headline.
- 31:51Sean McAllister: Right.
- 31:51Dayna Roselli: And People magazine and entertainment tonight, like all the time now.
- 31:55Sean McAllister: And everything they do is a story.
- 31:57Dayna Roselli: People magazine reporting, they make they make four million a show, too.
- 32:00Dayna Roselli: That's another good for them.
- 32:02Sean McAllister: That is another good for them, man.
- 32:04Sean McAllister: If you have the opportunity to do that in your lifetime, you do it.
- 32:09Dayna Roselli: That's for sure.
- 32:11Dayna Roselli: All right, now let's do some tips.
- 32:14Sean McAllister: All right, we're gonna kick off tips this week with another deal.
- 32:18Sean McAllister: We have told you for the past several episodes, now is the time to come to Vegas because there are deals just about everywhere.
- 32:28Sean McAllister: Now, uh Caesars Entertainment has come out with a new$300 escape package.
- 32:35Sean McAllister: And uh what that does, it offers you a two-night stay at either Hera's, The Link, or Flamingo included in that$300 stay is of course your room.
- 32:49Sean McAllister: You get a$200 food and beverage credit across all eight of Caesars Entertainment Resorts.
- 32:57Sean McAllister: Taxes and resort fees are already baked into that$300 price.
- 33:03Sean McAllister: I mean, this is great.
- 33:06Sean McAllister: And then there's an add-on.
- 33:08Sean McAllister: All you can spa if you want to add spa stuff into your stay as well.
- 33:12Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 33:13Sean McAllister: That's an upgrade.
- 33:14Sean McAllister: But I mean, uh this is a really good opportunity to get to Vegas.
- 33:21Sean McAllister: And I mean, that$200 food and beverage credit alone is worth the the price of the deal.
- 33:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and whenever we see this stuff, we're like, okay, but like how do we because sometimes it can get like all right, but how do I get the deal?
- 33:34Dayna Roselli: You know, it's complicated.
- 33:35Dayna Roselli: No, we went right to the link that they provided, and they have an actual page just for this deal, which makes it easy.
- 33:44Dayna Roselli: Um, the Caesars$300, it says at the top, um, uh two-night stay,$200 food and beverage credit, and they've got their own thing.
- 33:53Dayna Roselli: Now here's the deal.
- 33:53Dayna Roselli: When you click on, you pick one of the three hotels, and then there's a calendar because there are some blackout dates, but the calendar is right there and it shows you what days you can pick for the 300 all in.
- 34:04Dayna Roselli: And it's pretty easy to follow along.
- 34:07Dayna Roselli: And so we like that too.
- 34:09Dayna Roselli: Um lots of it looks like um how long is this going until the end of the year?
- 34:14Sean McAllister: It goes until yeah, the December 31st.
- 34:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so there's time and uh it's pretty simple.
- 34:20Dayna Roselli: Now the link is long.
- 34:22Dayna Roselli: Okay, so get ready.
- 34:24Sean McAllister: I'll put actually I'll put it in the show notes.
- 34:26Sean McAllister: Yeah, put it in the show notes also.
- 34:27Sean McAllister: I just did a uh Google search and I put in the Caesars 300 and it popped right up.
- 34:35Sean McAllister: It was the first search result.
- 34:36Sean McAllister: So just Google the Caesars 300, or you can click on the link down in our show notes and it'll take you right to the page where you can uh get linked up directly to that deal.
- 34:47Dayna Roselli: Yeah, perfect.
- 34:48Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so take advantage of that.
- 34:50Dayna Roselli: Um, another tip um a lot of people love egg slut.
- 34:54Dayna Roselli: It's a funny name, but it's a popular breakfast joint, and it is now there's one at the Cosmopolitan, and now it's uh coming to the Rio.
- 35:00Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 35:01Dayna Roselli: So we know you love your breakfast spots, everyone, and like news on they have great breakfast sandwiches.
- 35:07Sean McAllister: Yeah, I've I am a breakfast sandwich, like I you love them.
- 35:11Sean McAllister: Love a great breakfast sandwich.
- 35:13Sean McAllister: Love it.
- 35:14Dayna Roselli: Well, um, it is um part of the expanding restaurant collection over there at the Rio, and it's scheduled to open in late 2025.
- 35:24Dayna Roselli: It will be serving its gourmet sandwiches from its new location.
- 35:29Dayna Roselli: Um and it's situated, I guess, right near the resort's front desk.
- 35:33Dayna Roselli: So I tried to look in to see like, is it going away from the cosmopolitan and moving to the Rio?
- 35:37Dayna Roselli: I don't know any details about that, but um I did see the one at the Cosmos still open.
- 35:42Dayna Roselli: So um it will be Egg Slut at Rio will be the brand's first okay, off-strip location.
- 35:48Sean McAllister: Yeah, so I think they're keeping the cosmopolitan location.
- 35:51Dayna Roselli: Good.
- 35:52Dayna Roselli: And this will provide um locals and visitors with direct and easy access to the breakfast spot, is what they say in their little press release.
- 35:58Dayna Roselli: So good stuff.
- 35:59Dayna Roselli: Um, yeah, I've never been, but I do like a good breakfast sandwich as well.
- 36:03Dayna Roselli: So I love that Rio is just opening more and more stuff.
- 36:06Sean McAllister: I know.
- 36:07Dayna Roselli: They're getting that steakhouse of a tie.
