• 1:10
production. Welcome to 70x80, the section of
• 1:14
7080 .it that deepens the topics discussed on
• 1:18
the portal. I'm with the journalist Enzo Mauri,
• 1:21
who introduces today's topic. Good morning, today
• 1:23
I'm talking to you about a crazy cartoon character,
• 1:26
crazy enough to be appreciated even by the foreign
• 1:30
public. It's Picherello, Woody Woodpecker, who
• 1:33
debuted in Italy on... national program, then
• 1:35
Rai 1, in the famous broadcast of the 70s, the
• 1:38
cartoon heroes. Picchiarello is an anthropomorphic
• 1:41
picchio from the colors of the American flag,
• 1:42
created in 1940 by Walter Lanz and the animator
• 1:47
Ben Banks Hardaway. The latter is anointed among
• 1:50
the creators of the other two well -known characters
• 1:52
of the Warner Bros universe, the bunny Bugs Bunny
• 1:55
and the Daffy Duck. Picchiarello saw the light
• 1:57
in the great public on November 25, in the short
• 2:01
film Knock Knock, which featured the character
• 2:04
of Andy Panda and his father. In the story, Picchierello
• 2:07
favored so much the two pandas to become protagonists.
• 2:11
The real debut took place overseas in 1957 with
• 2:15
the Woody Woodpecker Show, a cartoon series produced
• 2:17
by Universal Pictures until the end in 1972.
• 2:21
It is said that Walter Lenz was inspired by the
• 2:24
character of Picchierello during the honeymoon.
• 2:30
practicing holes on the roof of the house where
• 2:32
Lance was with his wife. In reality, the story
• 2:34
seems to be a joke because at the time of the
• 2:37
so -called honeymoon, Picchierello had already
• 2:39
appeared on TV. In addition to his exuberant
• 2:41
character, Picchierello became famous for the
• 2:43
frenetic laugh created by the dubbing Mel Blanc.
• 2:50
In fact, Picchiarello's laughter had already
• 2:52
been adopted in the 1938 cartoon Porky's Heart
• 2:55
Hunt. In 1943, the animated cartoon by Dizzy
• 3:00
  Acrobat, starring Picchiarello, was nominated
• 3:02
for the Oscar for Best Short Film. Picchiarello
• 3:05
had the opportunity to win another Oscar thanks
• 3:08
to the song The Woody Woodpecker Song, written
• 3:10
by George Tibbles and Remy Hagrid. In the song
• 3:44
performed by Gloria Wood, Picchio makes a large
• 3:47
use of his famous laughter. In the years, Picchierello
• 3:50
became famous to the public as a star on Hollywood's
• 3:53
Walk of Fame, and also appeared in the films
• 3:56
Destination Moon, where he explained the risks
• 3:58
of space flights, and in the most famous Chi
