- 0:00Speaker 1: I try to tell him from like mid May. Now
- 0:02Speaker 1: June gets.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Foggy and gloomy in the morning, but he usually burns
- 0:05Speaker 2: off into a beautiful day. But I try to tell
- 0:07Speaker 2: him from about mid to late June until, like Chris said,
- 0:10Speaker 2: mid September, here crystal clear, and I mean our lawns
- 0:15Speaker 2: brown and die. We all know that does Wes have
- 0:17Speaker 2: lived here a day or two, and today is just
- 0:19Speaker 2: an idyllic They're already seventy degrees before ten am here
- 0:22Speaker 2: in the Pacific Northwest, and blue skies and mountaineers out
- 0:25Speaker 2: and the oceans and the mountains. Hopefully it's as sunny
- 0:27Speaker 2: and beautiful wherever you are listening, perhaps on the iHeartRadio
- 0:30Speaker 2: app for free at nine through three kJ dot com.
- 0:33Speaker 2: On our website, you can listen to us podcast post
- 0:36Speaker 2: it after the show. An interesting show Today, we're gonna
- 0:40Speaker 2: go a little bit of everywhere. First, a Seahawks sale.
- 0:43Speaker 2: What yeah, remember that soft market? Not so soft anymore.
- 0:48Speaker 2: But more than talking about the news of that last night,
- 0:50Speaker 2: I wrote it that the Newstribune dot com last night.
- 0:53Speaker 2: It's up this morning. I'm gonna ask you, the listener
- 0:56Speaker 2: and all of us to consider what I think is
- 0:58Speaker 2: a more interesting question, what obbligation do Jody Allen, the
- 1:01Speaker 2: chair of course of the team, and vice chair Burke
- 1:03Speaker 2: Cold feel toward not finding the highest bidder but the
- 1:07Speaker 2: right one for the Pacific Northwest And Chuck Poll asked
- 1:11Speaker 2: me a question this morning at seven am.
- 1:13Speaker 1: How much do Jody Allen and Burke.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Cold have a say in who actually buys a team
- 1:17Speaker 2: or are they being pressured and pretty much forced by
- 1:19Speaker 2: the NFL and fellow owners to take the highest bid
- 1:22Speaker 2: so all franchises valuations will rise. We'll talk about that
- 1:27Speaker 2: milestone day for the Mariners yesterday, and we'll talk about
- 1:30Speaker 2: what's next. Eleven o'clock we're gonna talk to Keith McPherson,
- 1:33Speaker 2: former host of WFM Sports Radio in New York City,
- 1:36Speaker 2: now host of the Mike Czech Sports talk show online.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I probably just yield the floor to Chris and Keith
- 1:42Speaker 2: to just talk about the NBA and the Knicks and
- 1:45Speaker 2: in the NBA Finals for the first time since nineteen
- 1:48Speaker 2: ninety nine. We'll talk to Keith McPherson at eleven o'clock
- 1:51Speaker 2: eleven thirty year text four nine four to five one
- 1:53Speaker 2: on the takomodads text line that's the time we always
- 1:56Speaker 2: go back to the show goes to you, and the
- 1:58Speaker 2: floor goes to you. The listener on the text line
- 2:01Speaker 2: or two of six, two eight six, ninety five ninety five.
- 2:03Speaker 2: If you want to call in, everyone says, oh, we
- 2:05Speaker 2: never do live callers, and we're happy to do that.
- 2:07Speaker 2: The Arheart Radio app also has a red talkback button.
- 2:11Speaker 2: You press that for a ninth or three KJR and
- 2:14Speaker 2: you can leave a thirty second voice message that we
- 2:16Speaker 2: can replay at eleven thirty. So we talked yesterday about
- 2:22Speaker 2: the Mariners, and the big story yesterday was, of course,
- 2:23Speaker 2: the piggybacking. Is it going to continue? The answers, yes,
- 2:26Speaker 2: the piggy backing of Logan, Gilbert and Luis not Logan Gilbert,
- 2:29Speaker 2: Bryce Miller and Luis Castillo will continue on Sunday when
- 2:34Speaker 2: the Mariners end a three game series at home against
- 2:37Speaker 2: the Arizona Diamondbacks. It'll be Bryce Miller that starts and
- 2:41Speaker 2: Louise Castillo who we leave. Hopefully they communicate it better
- 2:44Speaker 2: than they've communicated the first two times. When we saw
- 2:48Speaker 2: the last time Castillo just going off in the dugout
- 2:51Speaker 2: and slamming things around one of the more coolest cats
- 2:53Speaker 2: in the team flipping out about being pulled after four
- 2:57Speaker 2: scoreless innings. The vibe has changed in just twenty four
- 3:02Speaker 2: hours a nine to one win over the A's And yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 2: that's still on the back burner this whole talk about
- 3:07Speaker 2: that and the piggybacking. But where to play JP Crawford
- 3:12Speaker 2: when Brendan Donovan comes back. We're going to talk about
- 3:15Speaker 2: that during the show today too. But all that's taken
- 3:16Speaker 2: a back seat to the marriage in their first place
- 3:19Speaker 2: and this division has been just waiting for them to
- 3:21Speaker 2: take the lead. And for the first time here on
- 3:24Speaker 2: May twenty eighth, the first time this season, the reigning
- 3:27Speaker 2: division champions who came with an eight out so going
- 3:30Speaker 2: to the World Series for the first time ever last
- 3:31Speaker 2: October in the American League Championship Series. They are in
- 3:34Speaker 2: first place in the America League West. Should we set aside,
- 3:38Speaker 2: Chris the fact there in first place only because no
- 3:40Speaker 2: other team in the division has a five hundred.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Record, You know it is because of this is a
- 3:45Speaker 3: combination of all of that. A few big takeaways for
- 3:48Speaker 3: me from this series is the pitching still looking capable
- 3:52Speaker 3: to carry the load, getting good stuff from what Logan Gilbert,
- 3:57Speaker 3: and I think just overall, this was a series that
- 4:02Speaker 3: this team needed. They needed a good sweep and they
- 4:05Speaker 3: pretty much beat the brakes off the Athletics, which I
- 4:08Speaker 3: think every Manners fan would expect nothing less from this team.
- 4:12Speaker 3: I don't think this team needs to become the nineteen
- 4:14Speaker 3: twenty seven Yankees in terms of hitting, but it was
- 4:17Speaker 3: good to see Julio a little consistent. He's starting to
- 4:20Speaker 3: be considering, he's going to continue warming up, and the
- 4:23Speaker 3: role players also contributing during this series. So I think overall,
- 4:29Speaker 3: this is a good win for this team that's been
- 4:31Speaker 3: struggling throughout the season.
- 4:33Speaker 4: You need to beat up on somebody.
- 4:34Speaker 3: It just happened to be Athletics, But now can you
- 4:36Speaker 3: continue to do that for at least a week or so?
- 4:40Speaker 3: That's going to be the next step for this roster
- 4:42Speaker 3: because I think the picking's going to do it. But
- 4:44Speaker 3: the is the AL West is weak, Okay, so dominate
- 4:48Speaker 3: the Al Wes. You'd be the top dog and don't
- 4:50Speaker 3: It shouldn't even be a question, right everyone coming into
- 4:53Speaker 3: this season, Oh, the Mariners are going to win this division,
- 4:56Speaker 3: and it was kind of like, oh my gosh. Through
- 4:58Speaker 3: forty plus games. They're not looking like the winners that
- 5:01Speaker 3: anyone expected to be. But you saw a glimpse of
- 5:04Speaker 3: that against the Athletics, and I think they can build
- 5:06Speaker 3: off of that minus d injuries, and you'll have guys
- 5:08Speaker 3: coming back next week.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Hopefully.
- 5:10Speaker 1: We said one division sweep would put him in first place.
- 5:12Speaker 2: That's exactly what happened. Yeah, they swept the A's and
- 5:14Speaker 2: their in first place. Now come the Diamondbacks. I mentioned
- 5:18Speaker 2: seven games over five hundred and three games through a
- 5:20Speaker 2: third place I should say in the very tough National
- 5:22Speaker 2: League West, where the Dodgers and Padres are battling for
- 5:24Speaker 2: the top spot. But then the last place Mets, who
- 5:27Speaker 2: are just a gong show.
- 5:29Speaker 1: The last place.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Tigers we talked about yesterday are potentially fire sailing. The
- 5:33Speaker 2: Cy Young Award winner Tek Scooble, if he comes back
- 5:36Speaker 2: off of injury, might get traded to who knows whom,
- 5:40Speaker 2: not the Mariners. By the way, we talked about that yesterday.
- 5:42Speaker 2: The Mariners won't be in the mark. They have too
- 5:43Speaker 2: many starting pitchers who are pitching well. They don't need
- 5:46Speaker 2: to add Scooble and pay half of his thirty two
- 5:48Speaker 2: million dollars salary. For this year and then have a
- 5:51Speaker 2: rental because he'd be free agent after this year. But
- 5:54Speaker 2: after the Tigers then come the next to last place
- 5:57Speaker 2: Orioles have been woefully underperforming in the America East, and
- 6:01Speaker 2: then they go over to DC to play the Nationals,
- 6:03Speaker 2: who are a five hundred team in the NL East.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So there is a chance here if they play up
- 6:08Speaker 2: to their capabilities, to make this move that Chris is
- 6:10Speaker 2: talking about, because so far through two months of the season,
- 6:13Speaker 2: the ALS is going to play five hundred or worse.
- 6:16Speaker 1: And so you get a winning mark.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Against these two last place teams coming up the Mets
- 6:21Speaker 2: at home and at the Tigers, and now all of
- 6:23Speaker 2: a sudden you have a two to three, four game lead.
- 6:25Speaker 3: And how about that run differential, right, twenty two to four.
- 6:28Speaker 3: I know the records twenty eight and twenty nine, but
- 6:31Speaker 3: when you look at that run differential, that's very impressive.
- 6:34Speaker 1: They're plus twenty five for the season the Murders.
- 6:36Speaker 4: That's that's a good sign of this is actually a
- 6:39Speaker 4: good baseball team.
- 6:40Speaker 3: They just have a little bit of unluck here and
- 6:43Speaker 3: the circumstance of them just not being consistent enough. I
- 6:46Speaker 3: don't think what we saw was fluky from them. How
- 6:49Speaker 3: about that it wasn't a fluky win that was It
- 6:52Speaker 3: was just one crazy win after another. It was situational hitting,
- 6:56Speaker 3: run prevention, all the things that Greg and I and
- 6:59Speaker 3: that a lot of listeners have texted in talked about.
- 7:02Speaker 3: They're starting to put together. Well, they put together against
- 7:05Speaker 3: the Athletics. Now it's about putting it together against a
- 7:08Speaker 3: decent better teams, good teams, elite teams.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Thankes, snakes are better. That'll be a tougher.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Task, but that's what you would want. You would want
- 7:15Speaker 3: this same performance. Maybe one game out of those they
- 7:17Speaker 3: play on four times for three three. If you can
- 7:20Speaker 3: get one game where you go crazy and the other
- 7:22Speaker 3: two are more to your means and average, that would
- 7:25Speaker 3: show a better sign of where this team's going and
- 7:28Speaker 3: how far they can go.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Chris the World Series.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Chris mentioned Julia Rodriguez. His home run yesterday was eighth
- 7:35Speaker 2: in May. That's his most in any month of any
- 7:38Speaker 2: time in his career. That's a career high for a month,
- 7:41Speaker 2: eight home runs. We've mentioned this a couple times in
- 7:43Speaker 2: the last couple of weeks, but it bears mentioning again.
- 7:47Speaker 2: This Town Sports Radio, the papers get on Julio Rodriguez
- 7:51Speaker 2: for his slow starts, well, we should be trumpeting him
- 7:54Speaker 2: for his starts this year. He was in the one
- 7:57Speaker 2: hundreds in the first couple weeks of the season, but
- 7:58Speaker 2: now he's up to two what to seventy five and
- 8:01Speaker 2: then going into yesterday's game and the powers there and
- 8:05Speaker 2: the run productions there, and with cal Rawley not even
- 8:08Speaker 2: a factor in this lineup, Julio Rodriguez has been more
- 8:12Speaker 2: than pulling his load. He's got eight home runs in
- 8:14Speaker 2: the month of Mayas I just said, time to acknowledge that.
- 8:17Speaker 2: As much as everyone fretted about Rodriguez not having hot starts,
- 8:22Speaker 2: his two seventy two seventy five is two eighty averages
- 8:25Speaker 2: as highest. I mean, he took him well into June
- 8:28Speaker 2: until he had an average in two seventies last year.
- 8:31Speaker 2: His slugging is going with it. He's not chasing quite
- 8:35Speaker 2: as many pitches out of the strike zone as he
- 8:36Speaker 2: used to, which used to be the book on him.
- 8:39Speaker 2: And he's still playing his great defense. Victor Roblaze, by
- 8:41Speaker 2: the way, two more diving catches yesterday. In the two
- 8:44Speaker 2: games since he's come back off the injured list. He
- 8:47Speaker 2: looks like what are we gonna do with Luke Rayley
- 8:49Speaker 2: now because of Roadblaze. I know he's there's a platoon
- 8:53Speaker 2: situation in right field, Reschneider. If you get any kind
- 8:57Speaker 2: of production from him against left handed pitching, that's why
- 8:59Speaker 2: you got him. The A's, in fact, rejiggered their starting
- 9:03Speaker 2: rotation for this series to have them face left handers.
- 9:07Speaker 2: They wanted to throw left handed pitchers at the Mariners
- 9:09Speaker 2: before all the trouble Seattle has had against left handed pitching.
- 9:13Speaker 2: An Ems beat him twenty two to four and three
- 9:15Speaker 2: games when they did that. Ref Snyder's three run home
- 9:18Speaker 2: run a big part of that. Yesterday, Gilbert had a
- 9:21Speaker 2: three to nothing lead before he even picked up the
- 9:23Speaker 2: ball on the mound to begin the game in the
- 9:24Speaker 2: bottom of the first, and so it went. This is
- 9:28Speaker 2: the most consistent the Mariners have played by far, but
- 9:32Speaker 2: it's three games against a very mediocre team in a
- 9:35Speaker 2: very mediocre division. Remember they swept the trash Cans about
- 9:38Speaker 2: a month ago in four games and then couldn't build
- 9:41Speaker 2: on that at all. So let's see, is this the
- 9:44Speaker 2: streak that Chris and I have been mentioning your five
- 9:46Speaker 2: to six game winning streak to take a two to
- 9:48Speaker 2: three game lead, and here we go in the American
- 9:50Speaker 2: League West. And I've heard other colleague hosts of mine
- 9:55Speaker 2: on the air here talk about, well, if they get in,
- 9:58Speaker 2: then what baseball's different than that? Chris? It's different because
- 10:01Speaker 2: once you get in with the pitching staff the Mariners have,
- 10:03Speaker 2: it's just getting in and then you line up your
- 10:06Speaker 2: starting pitching over five and then seven game series. You
- 10:08Speaker 2: like your chances, right, so to me go win that week.
- 10:12Speaker 2: America League West. Last year they were fortunate enough to
- 10:15Speaker 2: get a seed that got him a home field for
- 10:17Speaker 2: their first playoff round. But I'm not so as concerned
- 10:21Speaker 2: as I would be in say the NFL or the
- 10:24Speaker 2: NBA or even the NHL about playoff seeding and matchups
- 10:27Speaker 2: because you got your pitching staff that could go against
- 10:29Speaker 2: anybody exactly.
- 10:30Speaker 3: That that alone just changes everything. That's like having an
- 10:34Speaker 3: elite defense kind of what the Seahawks had. Actually, you know,
- 10:37Speaker 3: you have an elite defense at the offense. You know,
- 10:39Speaker 3: you could you put up twenty one, you'll win the game.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Anything under that it'll be tough, but maybe the defense
- 10:44Speaker 3: makes a player there. That's what the Manners have. In
- 10:47Speaker 3: the pitching, you can give up maybe three runs, and
- 10:50Speaker 3: you would think, oh, the Mariner should win five, three,
- 10:53Speaker 3: four to three, something to that magnitude. But when the
- 10:56Speaker 3: offense struggles, as you've seen this season and years prior,
- 11:00Speaker 3: you're looking at the pitching staff like, damn, how much
- 11:02Speaker 3: more can they hold off a team and just throw, throw, throw, throw, throw,
- 11:06Speaker 3: and just be elite.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Well, hopefully that can turn this season and we have
- 11:10Speaker 4: a full.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Team that is able to pitch, able to hit, all
- 11:16Speaker 3: of those things that would make this team worthy of
- 11:18Speaker 3: a World Series. So I'm hoping that it all comes
- 11:21Speaker 3: together and it starts now right beating the Athletics and
- 11:24Speaker 3: then that three game series against the Diamondbacks sweeping them. Wow,
- 11:28Speaker 3: look at that, how many games do you want? That
- 11:30Speaker 3: would be nice, That would be very that'd be very nice.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Just keep building on what you guys are doing really well.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Not to say that Diamondbacks aren't a good baseball team,
- 11:39Speaker 3: but for where the Mariners are and where they could
- 11:41Speaker 3: and should be, they are far better than them, and
- 11:44Speaker 3: they just have to go out there and execute, don't
- 11:46Speaker 3: get in their own way.
- 11:47Speaker 2: We will talk more about the Mariners, in particular what
- 11:49Speaker 2: to do with JP Crawford when Brendan Donovan comes back.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Donovan suddenly is eligible to return from the ten day
- 11:54Speaker 2: injured list, although there's no indication from the Mariners yet
- 11:57Speaker 2: that he's going out on a minor league rehab assignment
- 12:00Speaker 2: for his groin injury. He got less than two weeks ago,
- 12:02Speaker 2: but he has now passed the ten day mark. So
- 12:04Speaker 2: it does start to come into play when Donovan comes back.
- 12:07Speaker 2: What to do in the infield. We'll talk about that
- 12:10Speaker 2: during the show. I got something in the email this
- 12:13Speaker 2: morning from Seaton Hall University outside Newark, New Jersey, and
- 12:16Speaker 2: I've worked with them in the past couple things in
- 12:18Speaker 2: The chair of the Department of Marketing, PhD wrote me
- 12:23Speaker 2: and said he wants me to participate in the top
- 12:27Speaker 2: Seaton Hall University is doing a list of the top
- 12:30Speaker 2: one hundred sports movies of all time. And I'm not
- 12:34Speaker 2: gonna say, let's recite one hundred, but what's the top five?
- 12:38Speaker 2: And four on the Takoma Dodge tax line. And got
- 12:41Speaker 2: me thinking, well, what is the top five? What would
- 12:43Speaker 2: you say the top five sports movies you've ever seen?
- 12:46Speaker 2: I have my number one already in my head. That
- 12:49Speaker 2: is tough. That's a good one. Isn't it.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Wow, Top five, top one hundred, and you get to
- 12:54Speaker 3: think of your This is gonna take me a minute,
- 12:56Speaker 3: but go ahead, what's your number one?
- 12:59Speaker 5: Oh?
- 12:59Speaker 2: I don't think there's any doubt. It's not exactly I mean,
- 13:02Speaker 2: it is a sports movie, but it's not exactly a
- 13:04Speaker 2: it's not a professional switch. The Sandlot. To me, it's
- 13:08Speaker 2: the number one sports movie.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I would probably say, yeah that if I before I
- 13:13Speaker 3: start googling list of all these movies because I'm gonna
- 13:16Speaker 3: forget some, I would not be mad because I think
- 13:19Speaker 3: I might have told you my favorite baseball movie of
- 13:21Speaker 3: all time is The Sandlot.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yes, So you can't go wrong saying that.
- 13:24Speaker 3: And I don't think having a number one overall would
- 13:27Speaker 3: be any I mean, obviously there's gonna be like, no, Greg,
- 13:29Speaker 3: it's this one.
- 13:30Speaker 2: It's about kids, it's about summer.
- 13:32Speaker 3: It's not about what it's about though, Yeah, exactly exactly
- 13:35Speaker 3: what makes it such a classic exactly see the kids
- 13:38Speaker 3: and they grow up and they're doing all the things everyone.
- 13:41Speaker 3: That's just an awesome story. You just can't remake that. So, yeah, Sandlot,
- 13:45Speaker 3: I thought you was gonna go rocky honestly.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and a lot of people.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Would and especially you have about what seven of them
- 13:51Speaker 2: to choose from now, the Rocket Series, the Natural talking
- 13:54Speaker 2: about Baseball, eight men out yes, you know for the
- 13:58Speaker 2: gals out there.
- 13:59Speaker 3: I forgot about this one. He got Game, Jesus shuttles
- 14:02Speaker 3: Worth Ray Allen. That's in my I'd have to really
- 14:05Speaker 3: sit down and make this list, but that came to
- 14:08Speaker 3: my mind just now. He got Game, because that's one
- 14:10Speaker 3: of the classics. That is, it's such a good movie.
- 14:13Speaker 3: If I'm not mistaken, Ray Allen was a Sonic when
- 14:15Speaker 3: that movie came.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Out nineteen Let's google when it came out.
- 14:19Speaker 2: He went to Yukon, was a superstar Yukon when got
- 14:22Speaker 2: in the league with the Milwaukee Bucks, ray Allen and
- 14:24Speaker 2: I think it was either maybe he was still with
- 14:26Speaker 2: the Bucks before he got Bucks. It was ninety eight, okay,
- 14:28Speaker 2: so it was before he came to Seattle. And I
- 14:30Speaker 2: covered him with the son good actor. I'll get this booth.
- 14:33Speaker 4: I'll give him credit.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Like a lot of you just don't see NBA players says,
- 14:37Speaker 3: oh yeah, come do this movie about an NBA A
- 14:40Speaker 3: high school kid trying to go play college ball, et cetera,
- 14:43Speaker 3: et cetera.
- 14:43Speaker 4: He did a really good job.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Jesus, that's a great reference.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, I would say that's I'd have to
- 14:51Speaker 3: really sit down, but right now I put it in
- 14:52Speaker 3: my top Tenka easily, he got game.
- 14:55Speaker 4: I'm just trying to think.
- 14:56Speaker 2: What else? Oh?
- 14:57Speaker 4: Remember the Titans that's in there? Yeah, Friday Night Lights.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Wow, okay, this is better book than movie for me,
- 15:04Speaker 2: just because the characters. Wow, okay, I gotta read the
- 15:06Speaker 2: book now, listener. The journalist, actual Philadelphia Require Inquirer reporter
- 15:11Speaker 2: did a hell of a job reporting that in the book,
- 15:14Speaker 2: so good it became the movie. But I okay, let's
- 15:18Speaker 2: let's narrow it down for the text on coming out
- 15:19Speaker 2: to textign four nine four five one.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Your top three sports movies of all time? Even harder
- 15:24Speaker 1: it did, I would make it even more difficult for you.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I'll give you my number.
- 15:27Speaker 2: One, the saying lot. I mean, we could go for
- 15:29Speaker 2: my two or three, but your top three sports movies
- 15:32Speaker 2: of all time. Seaton Hall University is asking me to
- 15:35Speaker 2: participate in a poll of the top one hundred, so
- 15:40Speaker 2: that spawned this conversation.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Top one hundred great, I'm like, I don't think I
- 15:45Speaker 4: even have seen a hundred I'm with you. I have
- 15:47Speaker 4: not seen a hundred sports movies.
- 15:48Speaker 3: That might be crazy to some people as I sit
- 15:51Speaker 3: here talking sports on radio, but that's a lot of
- 15:54Speaker 3: sports movies.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Think about that.
- 15:57Speaker 2: I don't think I I don't think I've come close
- 15:59Speaker 2: to seventy. I got other things I've been doing in
- 16:03Speaker 2: the last twenty five.
- 16:04Speaker 4: I guess when I get home, I'm going to write
- 16:05Speaker 4: down all the sports movies.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Well, that would be.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Another task of writing down all the sports. You just
- 16:09Speaker 3: google sports movies and they start popping up, yea. That yeah, yeah,
- 16:12Speaker 3: you don't have to really sit there and try to
- 16:14Speaker 3: remember and and sports movies is kind of have a
- 16:17Speaker 3: wide birth of I mean, Talladega Knights is a sports movie,
- 16:22Speaker 3: you know what I mean? Now, how do you phrase this?
- 16:24Speaker 3: That's a sports movie. And I've seen that, so I
- 16:26Speaker 3: know that counts.
- 16:27Speaker 1: It does that would be.
- 16:28Speaker 2: In the sports genre. So, I mean, it's a pretty
- 16:31Speaker 2: wide berth you have to choose from here. You're okay,
- 16:33Speaker 2: maybe you had to if you count some of the
- 16:36Speaker 2: periphery sports movies. Yeah, that's just as interesting. The original
- 16:42Speaker 2: and the remake and the remake. I know it's the original,
- 16:44Speaker 2: one or two that's a sports movie. It is, and
- 16:47Speaker 2: Bert I'm talking about the Burt Reynolds North Dallas forty
- 16:50Speaker 2: with way back when I'm talking in the seventies about
- 16:52Speaker 2: professional football.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Wow, I've never heard of that until today.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Really, well, we have a generation gap between you.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Year did it come out?
- 17:00Speaker 3: I think it was like nineteen seventy eight, good gosh, yes,
- 17:04Speaker 3: of course, I've never heard of that. You could make
- 17:06Speaker 3: the case that Herbie the lug Bug is a sports movie.
- 17:09Speaker 3: It's about racing or cars.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Of this kind, which is one of my that's about
- 17:15Speaker 2: a NASCAR style Winston Cup, NASCAR Cup, whatever you battle
- 17:22Speaker 2: in front of that. That's a sports movie.
- 17:23Speaker 3: And you've seen every single what's the movie with the Dog?
- 17:27Speaker 3: And it plays basketball? But I have not seen every
- 17:30Speaker 3: air but no, but you've seen you know, yeah, I've
- 17:33Speaker 3: seen more than a sports movie. That's greg. We might
- 17:37Speaker 3: have seen a hundred. I think we just kind of
- 17:40Speaker 3: I think we have the Michael Jordan jam space jam
- 17:43Speaker 3: oh man.
- 17:44Speaker 4: That would you put that up in your top three?
- 17:47Speaker 4: Not my top three?
- 17:48Speaker 2: Okay, it's really good.
- 17:50Speaker 4: I mean people might think Michael George's terrible actor. I don't.
- 17:52Speaker 4: I'm not sure.
- 17:53Speaker 2: But Damn.
- 17:54Speaker 4: That was a good movie.
- 17:55Speaker 3: Yeah, oh wow, this is harder than I thought. Good luck, Greg,
- 17:59Speaker 3: have fun doing this. What what's your basketball?
- 18:01Speaker 2: Guy? What did you? Maybe haven't seen it? Blue Chips
- 18:04Speaker 2: Shaquille O'Neal as a high school recruit getting I did
- 18:08Speaker 2: not know enticed with the illegal benefits at the time
- 18:12Speaker 2: which are not legal.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I haven't seen that ninety four. I'm gonna
- 18:15Speaker 3: have to go check that out.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a throwback.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Blue Chips Night came out when I.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Was two years old.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Believe it or not.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Look at that, I want to say.
- 18:24Speaker 2: The coach was Nick Nolty? Am I right? Yep?
- 18:27Speaker 4: Nick Nolty was the coach. Legendary actor.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Yes, yes, he was the head coach, and he was
- 18:32Speaker 2: on the tail end of his career, and he had
- 18:34Speaker 2: had an impeccable integrity record his long career and then
- 18:38Speaker 2: at the end started cutting corners to get these top recruits.
- 18:43Speaker 2: There was another NBA player in there. Yeah, well, Penny
- 18:46Speaker 2: Hardaway was in that movie.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Now.
- 18:47Speaker 2: The Memphis coach friend of mine, We've talked about this.
- 18:50Speaker 2: That's doctor Ed Scott is the athletic director at Memphis
- 18:53Speaker 2: and a friend of mine. I teach with him at
- 18:54Speaker 2: the University of Washington the summer athletic Leadership program. So
- 18:58Speaker 2: I've got a lot of Penny Hardaway's from doctor Scott
- 19:02Speaker 2: and we chuckled over the fact that he was in
- 19:04Speaker 2: Blue Chips co starring with SHAQUILLEA Neel.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Yeah, Greg, you've seen a hundred sports movies.
- 19:09Speaker 3: I'm sorry it sounded crazy at first, but now that
- 19:12Speaker 3: we've talked about it for the last few minutes, we've
- 19:14Speaker 3: both seen a hundred of them. We would you mentioned Cars?
- 19:17Speaker 3: There's like four movies on cars alone. Airbud, there's like
- 19:21Speaker 3: two or three. We would be remiss if we don't
- 19:23Speaker 3: mention Hoosiers, would we not?
- 19:25Speaker 5: Oh?
- 19:25Speaker 3: Well, absolutely, Yeah, that's yeah, that's without a question. Yes,
- 19:27Speaker 3: well hang on Hoosiers as in a sports movie or.
- 19:29Speaker 2: No, the basketball sports movie. Yes, as we're talking best
- 19:32Speaker 2: sports movies, Hoosiers is up there. Jimmy Chitwood, Swinging Gate,
- 19:36Speaker 2: Gene Hackman for y'all.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Yes, for me, you haven't seen it, I've seen it,
- 19:40Speaker 3: but it was it didn't I was too old for you,
- 19:43Speaker 3: I mean not too old. I just maybe I have
- 19:45Speaker 3: to go back and rewatch it and get a better
- 19:47Speaker 3: understanding the text line is already lighting up with some
- 19:50Speaker 3: good ones.
- 19:50Speaker 2: That secretary at the two O six says, that's a
- 19:53Speaker 2: great movie.
- 19:54Speaker 4: I believe I've seen that once.
- 19:56Speaker 2: The Sea Biscuit is along that line is another well
- 19:59Speaker 2: told story. Another great book, by the way, but another
- 20:03Speaker 2: really good story. Okay, go back Chariots of Fire about
- 20:07Speaker 2: Olympians in the early twentieth century.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you've seen one hundred play this is it's not
- 20:13Speaker 3: you seeing one hundred, whether you want to believe it
- 20:15Speaker 3: or not.
- 20:15Speaker 4: I think you have.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Six agrees with the blue chips above the rim. I
- 20:20Speaker 2: haven't seen above the room above the rim is good?
- 20:23Speaker 2: Who that? Uh?
- 20:24Speaker 6: Now?
- 20:24Speaker 3: I got to pull up the Google nineteen ninety four
- 20:28Speaker 3: film with Yeah, Tupac was in it, Dwayne Martin, a comedian,
- 20:32Speaker 3: Marlon Wayne's Wood Harris.
- 20:34Speaker 4: So it's a classic hoop game hoop.
- 20:37Speaker 2: But none of them were actual basketball players.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Yeah, none of them. Leon Robinson, you remember that name,
- 20:42Speaker 3: as Shep roberts You played Arkansas Robinson. I don't know Robertson.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Sorry Robinson. Yeah, he I don't know if he played ball,
- 20:51Speaker 3: but he definitely fit the He fit the visual of
- 20:55Speaker 3: an actual basketball player. Also played in Cool runnings. That's
- 20:57Speaker 3: what you might remember him from a sports movie. It's
- 21:00Speaker 3: about the Bob's led team taking the Olympics. Yeah, that
- 21:03Speaker 3: was a really cool one.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Yeah yeah.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Caddy Shack is a sports movie. Two six Bull Durham, Greg.
- 21:10Speaker 4: You've seen one hundred and twenty at this break.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Field of Dreams is mentioned on here a few times.
- 21:15Speaker 2: The Kevin Costs a really good one. Eight Men Out
- 21:18Speaker 2: I really liked. Also, I haven't seen that. Do you
- 21:20Speaker 2: know about the story they eight Men Out? The Black
- 21:22Speaker 2: Sox scandal the Chicago Black Scots. Thirty seconds ago nineteen nineteen,
- 21:26Speaker 2: Chicago Black Sox make the World Series against Cincinnati Reds,
- 21:29Speaker 2: heavy heavy favorite Shulish Joe Jackson, hall of famer as
- 21:32Speaker 2: the start of the team. Betters get into Shoelish Joe
- 21:35Speaker 2: Jackson in the black Saw White Sox and have him
- 21:38Speaker 2: throw the series and the Reds win the series. And
- 21:42Speaker 2: this is right about the well, I mean dawn of
- 21:45Speaker 2: the depression in our country where money was getting scarce
- 21:49Speaker 2: and better's won big by the Black Sox. They ended
- 21:52Speaker 2: up being called the Black Sox. They had to be part.
- 21:55Speaker 2: I don't think they ever pardoned Kennesaw Mountain Landis was
- 21:57Speaker 2: the commissioner at the time, but it was a gigantic
- 22:00Speaker 2: scandal and betting and baseball and shoeless. Joe Jackson was
- 22:05Speaker 2: central figure in that movie and then the book as well.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I thought eight minute was told really well, man, I mean,
- 22:15Speaker 2: think about all the baseball I mean, Bad News Bears
- 22:18Speaker 2: is a baseball movie. Have you seen the Bad News Bears?
- 22:21Speaker 2: I have not the original Tatum O'Neill and no water
- 22:24Speaker 2: math Owl. That's funny. I mean that's funny. It's just
- 22:28Speaker 2: a funny. I mean, it's the seventies movie for seventies.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I mean the tight shorts and the tight pants and
- 22:34Speaker 2: the butt. Walter Mathow as a little league coach is
- 22:37Speaker 2: pretty hilarious. I'd put that up. There's at least really entertaining.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I haven't seen the program. Basketball makes two of Us anyway,
- 22:46Speaker 2: already getting some great We'll waiting back at eleven thirty.
- 22:49Speaker 2: On top of the next subject I'm going to bring
- 22:52Speaker 2: up to you when we get back, the Seahawks sale
- 22:54Speaker 2: is accelerating. There's a reason for that. We'll talk about
- 22:57Speaker 2: the potential price tag, but we'll talk about something that
- 23:00Speaker 2: is even more important to you. The listener and the
- 23:02Speaker 2: Seahawks fan about this sale that's next on ninety three
- 23:05Speaker 2: point three KJRFM. Now back to Greg Bell and Christopher
- 23:09Speaker 2: Kidd on your Home for the Huskies, Krackett and the
- 23:12Speaker 2: twelfth Man Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Welcome back to the show, The Greg Belt Show with
- 23:24Speaker 2: Christopher Kidd Live on ninety three point three kJ RF,
- 23:27Speaker 2: And we may set a text line record with the responses.
- 23:31Speaker 2: We're already receiving our question from ten minutes ago. Try
- 23:35Speaker 2: to name your best three sports movies of all time
- 23:38Speaker 2: that you've seen, and people are pulling out some of
- 23:40Speaker 2: the Yeah, I forgot about that one, Yeah, I forget
- 23:42Speaker 2: about that one. Four to five The Gladiator is a
- 23:45Speaker 2: sports movie.
- 23:47Speaker 4: We see what you did there. Greg still hasn't seen.
- 23:50Speaker 2: It, Major League Rudy, there's some really good ones on here.
- 23:55Speaker 2: And yeah, I mean Slapshot heard Paul Newman, I heard
- 24:01Speaker 2: of it. Great, a great film. Four it's coming out checks.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I'll read that back. At eleven thirty, my daughter, who's
- 24:08Speaker 2: waiting at the Lax Airport gate waiting to fly back
- 24:10Speaker 2: from Los Angeles to Seattle, texted in with her favorite.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Her favorite is a sandlot Chris twice. We've given Sarah
- 24:17Speaker 2: Bell for Christmas gifts PF Flyers. Really, yes, she loves it,
- 24:21Speaker 2: though she may be wearing them right now at the
- 24:23Speaker 2: lax Gate the black PF Flyers, and she sent me
- 24:27Speaker 2: a text and said, run faster, jump higher, PF Flyers.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Wow, that's dope.
- 24:33Speaker 2: And since Sarah Bell's top three sports movies, she's seen
- 24:37Speaker 2: twenty three years old Sandlot, White Men Can't Jump.
- 24:40Speaker 3: That's a I don't know if I could put it
- 24:42Speaker 3: in my top ten, but that's a really good movie.
- 24:43Speaker 2: It is a really good, real good. She loved Rosie Perez,
- 24:46Speaker 2: my daughter did in that movie. That was I think.
- 24:50Speaker 3: She actually got her start all living color and then
- 24:54Speaker 3: she brought her back and was like, you know what, Yes,
- 24:57Speaker 3: that's right, thank you.
- 24:58Speaker 2: That's right in living color. And then Mike Lee puts
- 25:00Speaker 2: her in his movie I loved.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Billy Billy, What you doing Billy.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Oh?
- 25:11Speaker 2: In a movie she has number three Cool Runnings. We
- 25:14Speaker 2: mentioned that that that's enough. This is tough.
- 25:17Speaker 4: I'm sorry Greg that you have to do this.
- 25:18Speaker 2: This have fun.
- 25:19Speaker 4: You're gonna be pulling your hair out.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Dick Fame from three to seven here on ninety three
- 25:23Speaker 2: point three kids. R FM texted and said, we have
- 25:25Speaker 2: to see the program. I've never seen it. It's about Wow,
- 25:28Speaker 2: that's two of us.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Yeah, he's look at that. Greg has to watch Gladiator
- 25:32Speaker 4: and the program.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Breaking Away pre Fontaine. I mean the pre movie was
- 25:39Speaker 1: really good.
- 25:41Speaker 4: I'm aging myself here. Listeners probably banging their.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Phones or aard we three Dodgeball, Days of Thunder.
- 25:52Speaker 3: These are comedy. These are comedies. Cup I think I've
- 25:57Speaker 3: seen Raging bullboxing movie. But I mean that's a gruesome
- 26:01Speaker 3: at times movie. Oh happy Gilmore. Unfortunately that Jerry McGuire,
- 26:09Speaker 3: it's very good.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Have you seen Jerry McGuire, Yes, I have. Speaking of football,
- 26:13Speaker 2: Jerry McGuire's football agent. Anyway, four nine, four to five one.
- 26:17Speaker 2: We'll go back to the text line. I mean, this
- 26:19Speaker 2: is going to set a runaway record for a most
- 26:21Speaker 2: text about the s.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Yeah, we're we're probably gonna yeah factor fiction.
- 26:26Speaker 2: I mean, I'm getting text from people I haven't heard
- 26:28Speaker 2: from it a long time. It's live from the air.
- 26:32Speaker 2: So last night, Seahawks news ian Rappaport went on ESPN
- 26:37Speaker 2: and said that the Seahawks sale that two weeks ago,
- 26:41Speaker 2: two and a half weeks ago, Seth Wickersham of ESPN
- 26:43Speaker 2: had reported as a soft market. Ian Rappaport went on
- 26:47Speaker 2: last night and said, no, no, no, this is a
- 26:48Speaker 2: robust market he's been told.
- 26:50Speaker 1: In fact, so erbust.
- 26:52Speaker 2: He says it would not surprise him if the league
- 26:54Speaker 2: owners convene a special meeting to vote on the Seahawks
- 26:58Speaker 2: sale in August, and that the team could be sold
- 27:00Speaker 2: before the season begins. Of course, the season begins September ninth,
- 27:03Speaker 2: Wednesday here in Seattle, Seahawks Patriots in the Super Bowl
- 27:06Speaker 2: sixty rematch. So it's gone from soft to robust and
- 27:10Speaker 2: potentially sold by August. Well what happened, Well, remember on
- 27:15Speaker 2: May seventh, on the show, we talked about as the
- 27:17Speaker 2: show was going on Sport it go reporting that two
- 27:20Speaker 2: different groups, three men, two different groups had submitted letters
- 27:26Speaker 2: of intent to the Paul g Allen Trust investment firm
- 27:30Speaker 2: handling the sale of intending to put in bids on
- 27:32Speaker 2: the team.
- 27:32Speaker 1: And that's all it took.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Remember we talked that, think, Chris, multiple bidders is what
- 27:36Speaker 2: it's going to take to get this market going and
- 27:39Speaker 2: to drive up the price. And again it bears repeating
- 27:43Speaker 2: Paul g Allen and on the Seahawks began the process
- 27:48Speaker 2: of selling buying the team from Ken Bearing in nineteen
- 27:52Speaker 2: ninety seven, kepam in Seattle. They were going to move
- 27:55Speaker 2: to southern California. They actually partially moved to southern California
- 27:58Speaker 2: and Ken Bearing Paul Allen got a consortium together, got
- 28:03Speaker 2: the state government and local government on board, got a
- 28:06Speaker 2: new stadium built, Seahawks stayed and rest is history. Paul
- 28:09Speaker 2: Allen died in twenty eighteen. As part of his will,
- 28:13Speaker 2: his trust it is to sell all of his assets,
- 28:16Speaker 2: not just the Seahawks in the Portland Trailblazers in the NBA,
- 28:19Speaker 2: but all of his assets, and that the proceeds go
- 28:21Speaker 2: to charity, to his philanthropic interest. So it is in
- 28:24Speaker 2: the interest of the chair of that trust, his sister
- 28:27Speaker 2: Jody Allen, who by virtue of being the chair of
- 28:30Speaker 2: the trust is the chair of the Seahawks and the
- 28:33Speaker 2: vice chair the number two vert cold to find the
- 28:37Speaker 2: highest bidder for the highest price to benefit the philanthropic
- 28:40Speaker 2: interest of the Paul G. Allen Trust as maximizing that
- 28:43Speaker 2: as much as they can.
- 28:46Speaker 5: But but.
- 28:50Speaker 1: There is a question here.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Dave Softie Mahler brought this up online this morning, and
- 28:53Speaker 2: I thought about it last night when I was writing
- 28:55Speaker 2: my story that's up at the Newstributne dot com right now.
- 28:57Speaker 2: In fact, I thought about it in February when I
- 29:00Speaker 2: asked Burt Cold this question, what responsibility do Jody Allen
- 29:05Speaker 2: and Burt Cold feel about having an obligation to selling
- 29:09Speaker 2: to the not the highest bidder, but the right bidder
- 29:12Speaker 2: for the Pacific Northwest. And that's a different question because
- 29:17Speaker 2: and we'll talk about the Portland Trailblazers sale and it
- 29:20Speaker 2: was already starting to come out with the new ownership there.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Now that's a whole different situation for less than half
- 29:25Speaker 2: the cost of what the Seahawks are expected to be.
- 29:28Speaker 2: The in Rappaport last night reported that the sale of
- 29:31Speaker 2: the Seahawks could eclipse ten billion with a B dollars,
- 29:34Speaker 2: which would set an a North American record for sports franchises.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Last October this NBA approved the sale of the Los
- 29:41Speaker 2: Angeles Lakers from the Bus family to a group of
- 29:45Speaker 2: investors for ten billion dollars. That's the highest sale ever.
- 29:49Speaker 2: The record in the NFL is six point oh five
- 29:52Speaker 2: the Washington Commander's six point oh five billion. A couple
- 29:55Speaker 2: of years ago, and it seems Seahorks are definitely going
- 29:57Speaker 2: to eclipse that. But now if they could eclipse ten billion,
- 30:00Speaker 2: they would actually be most in North American sports history.
- 30:04Speaker 2: But what obligation do Jody Allen and Burke Cold have
- 30:07Speaker 2: to not sell to the highest bidder but the right one.
- 30:10Speaker 2: I asked Cold about this at the Super Bowl in
- 30:12Speaker 2: San Jose the first week of February. Through the lens
- 30:14Speaker 2: of asking him, can you assure Seahawks fans that they
- 30:18Speaker 2: will sell to a new owner who would not think
- 30:21Speaker 2: of moving the team to that Cold referenced the team's
- 30:25Speaker 2: thirty year least with Lumenfield that runs through twenty thirty one.
- 30:28Speaker 2: He did not come and on the thirty year options
- 30:30Speaker 2: the team has with the stadium in the local government
- 30:32Speaker 2: to stay in Seattle and in Lumenfield beyond twenty thirty
- 30:35Speaker 2: one to perhaps twenty sixty. I'm not going to get
- 30:39Speaker 2: into all that all that detail. Cold told me on
- 30:41Speaker 2: February second, Chris, I think you have the tape of him.
- 30:45Speaker 2: This is what Burke Coled, the vice chair of the
- 30:47Speaker 2: Seahawks and the Paul G. Allen Trust, said when I
- 30:49Speaker 2: asked them about his obligation to take care of the
- 30:51Speaker 2: fans of the Pacific Northwest with this sale. And this
- 30:53Speaker 2: is what Burke Cole said. I'm not going to get
- 30:56Speaker 2: into all of that.
- 30:56Speaker 5: I like the Allen family a lot into saving the
- 31:01Speaker 5: sas keeping him in SAG.
- 31:04Speaker 2: We campaigned around the state.
- 31:06Speaker 5: The voters agreed with us, and we put together a
- 31:10Speaker 5: little and field and we delivered on everything.
- 31:14Speaker 2: We promised in that campaign.
- 31:16Speaker 5: Thirteam on the stadium, Soccer balls were on our posters.
- 31:21Speaker 5: The Sounders launched this the most successful MLL soccer team.
- 31:25Speaker 5: World Cup is coming. We talked about World Cup back
- 31:28Speaker 5: in that campaign. We've been all about the sports.
- 31:32Speaker 2: We've been all about sports in the community for decades,
- 31:36Speaker 2: is what he told me. I wrote it in the
- 31:38Speaker 2: News Tribune dot Com that day, February second from the
- 31:42Speaker 2: Super Bowl.
- 31:44Speaker 1: And then he gave me a look.
- 31:45Speaker 2: He's trailed off, and he said so, and he gave
- 31:47Speaker 2: me a look like, come on, man, our bona fides
- 31:50Speaker 2: are enough. We don't need to be asked about taking
- 31:51Speaker 2: care of the Pacific Northwest. Here my read on this.
- 31:55Speaker 2: If you can take burke Hold at his word, no
- 31:57Speaker 2: reason not to. And there's the region has three decades
- 32:01Speaker 2: of trust in the Seahawks to go on. This is
- 32:04Speaker 2: they are gonna be thinking not just highest bidder, but
- 32:07Speaker 2: what's best for the Pacific Northwest. Now that doesn't mean
- 32:10Speaker 2: but this seller is gonna the buyer is gonna be
- 32:13Speaker 2: from here. There are all kinds of stories of buyers
- 32:15Speaker 2: that are from not from here. In fact, Betal, one
- 32:18Speaker 2: of the Indian steel baron, is living in London, and
- 32:22Speaker 2: there's questions about that if he's one of the reported
- 32:26Speaker 2: bidders on the Seahawks not even living in the country.
- 32:29Speaker 2: But that's a different question of whether they'll take care
- 32:31Speaker 2: of the Pacific Northwest and the trust that the Seahawks
- 32:34Speaker 2: and the Allen family have engendered with the region, whether
- 32:38Speaker 2: he lives, she and the buyers live here or not.
- 32:41Speaker 1: We're gonna talk more about this.
- 32:43Speaker 2: I'm going to frame it in how the Blazer's sale
- 32:46Speaker 2: went down and what's already going on in Portland and
- 32:48Speaker 2: the rumblings about the new owner there, Tom Dundon. We'll
- 32:51Speaker 2: talk about that next after the break. We'll also talk
- 32:53Speaker 2: about where J. P. Grawford should go, which you think
- 32:55Speaker 2: JP Grawford should go When Brendan and Donovan eventually comes
- 32:58Speaker 2: back from the injure list. That's coming up on ninety
- 33:00Speaker 2: three point three kJ R FM swimmer.
- 33:03Speaker 6: Every summer, my a don't fight every summer there she
- 33:10Speaker 6: is blow, she oiling.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Oy and one day it became too much for Michael
- 33:22Speaker 1: Squints Polydor.
- 33:24Speaker 2: I can't check this no more. The great Wendy Peppercord
- 33:30Speaker 2: sitting on the lifeguard stand at the pool from the
- 33:34Speaker 2: sand Loot. Of course, I say, the best sports movie
- 33:37Speaker 2: ever made. My wife's name Wendy and I she used
- 33:41Speaker 2: to be a lifeguard at the community pool in her
- 33:43Speaker 2: hometown in Ohio.
- 33:44Speaker 4: Did you role play and like fake drown and she
- 33:46Speaker 4: came and saved you?
- 33:47Speaker 2: Greg? Have I given her mouth to mouth resuscitation? She
- 33:52Speaker 2: was blonde, just like Wendy pepper Cord.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, they definitely roll play this guy. Just just
- 33:57Speaker 4: let you know.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Our kids did. As young as our kids were when
- 34:01Speaker 2: they first saw the movie, they picked up on the
- 34:03Speaker 2: similarities at least what I was trying to portray. Best
- 34:07Speaker 2: sports movies you've ever seen? The top three. Run that back.
- 34:11Speaker 2: We'll play it back and read your text. At eleven
- 34:13Speaker 2: thirty on the Takomadatge text line four nine four to
- 34:15Speaker 2: five one, I say the Stalewan's the number one. We're
- 34:18Speaker 2: talking about the Seahawks sail lass segment.
- 34:21Speaker 1: And look, I get it.
- 34:23Speaker 2: You're saying, wait a minute, you're telling us to trust
- 34:26Speaker 2: Vice chair Burke Cole chair Jody Allen to do the
- 34:29Speaker 2: right thing and not just take to the highest bidder
- 34:31Speaker 2: with what they just sold to In Portland with the Trailblazers.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Tom done the same situation. The Paul G. Allen Trust
- 34:39Speaker 1: mandated that the Blazers.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Be sold and the Seahawks be sold. Blazers were sold
- 34:43Speaker 2: for four point twenty five billion to Tom Dundon, who
- 34:47Speaker 2: was also the owner of the Carolina Carolina Hurricanes, who
- 34:50Speaker 2: are heading to the one game away from heading to
- 34:53Speaker 2: the Stanley Cup Finals.
- 34:55Speaker 1: And they since he's bottom, I get it.
- 34:58Speaker 2: People are up in arms about him not wanting to
- 35:00Speaker 2: spend money on T shirts to hand out to fans
- 35:02Speaker 2: at home playoff games, him keeping people from the road
- 35:05Speaker 2: trips that normally go on road trips and playoff road trips,
- 35:08Speaker 2: and not wanting to spend money to put them on
- 35:09Speaker 2: the team plane, and all of it. I understand the
- 35:12Speaker 2: concerns that some of us in the Northwest might have
- 35:15Speaker 2: about that. As a present, But to me, it's a
- 35:17Speaker 2: little bit of an apple to oranges comparison. That sale
- 35:20Speaker 2: was for four billion dollars. This one's for ten. The
- 35:24Speaker 2: NFL Chuck Powell asked me this morning the question that
- 35:27Speaker 2: I'm going to now answer again. He asked me at
- 35:30Speaker 2: seven o'clock this morning.
- 35:32Speaker 1: He said, who ultimately decides who.
- 35:34Speaker 2: The Seahawks choose to be the new owners? Is it
- 35:37Speaker 2: Jody Allenenberke cold or is it the NFL? And it's
- 35:40Speaker 2: fellow other team owners And it's both because, as in
- 35:45Speaker 2: all sports, they the owners ultimately have to ratify the
- 35:48Speaker 2: sale and approve the bid and to prove that this
- 35:51Speaker 2: is where we're going to go forward with. And they
- 35:53Speaker 2: are very select on who they let in to what
- 35:56Speaker 2: is almost exclusively a old white men club a billions,
- 36:00Speaker 2: and they want to keep it that way, and they
- 36:02Speaker 2: want to keep everybody of like mind. There's a couple exceptions,
- 36:05Speaker 2: a Jaguars owner who's London based, and but by and
- 36:09Speaker 2: large they want their guy, their type of people, and
- 36:12Speaker 2: they type of people tend to be rich, white, old
- 36:15Speaker 2: white men, and they want to keep it that way,
- 36:18Speaker 2: and they ultimately have to say on the proving the sale.
- 36:22Speaker 2: But Jody Allen and Burke cold are driven by, as
- 36:24Speaker 2: I said, the Paul G. Allen Trust wishes of the
- 36:27Speaker 2: philanthropic benefits of this sale and most of the proceeds
- 36:31Speaker 2: going to the charities of Paul Allen, and also to
- 36:34Speaker 2: what I just described with Burke Cole describing their commitment
- 36:38Speaker 2: to the citizen injury of the Pacific Northwest and of
- 36:41Speaker 2: Seattle sports community. I will tell you that within the NFL,
- 36:45Speaker 2: they are so respected the Paul G. Allen, the family,
- 36:48Speaker 2: the trust, the legacy of the last thirty years of
- 36:50Speaker 2: the Allen family owning the Seahawks. They're so respected that
- 36:55Speaker 2: the NFL trusts the Allen family to do the right thing.
- 37:01Speaker 2: We'll see if that plays out the dollar ultimately wins.
- 37:03Speaker 2: I get that, but I think there's something of a
- 37:06Speaker 2: hedge that it's not just going to be the top
- 37:08Speaker 2: top dollar period and that the NFL recognizes the community
- 37:13Speaker 2: trust that the Allen family has established in particular with
- 37:16Speaker 2: the Seahawks. That's my read on this. We'll see how
- 37:20Speaker 2: it plays out. I understand the concerns, and it's a
- 37:22Speaker 2: valid question for sure in this era where sports franchise
- 37:26Speaker 2: valuations are going so high and the other NFL owners
- 37:29Speaker 2: the pressure will be to go sell to the highest
- 37:31Speaker 2: bidder so that their values of their franchises will also
- 37:33Speaker 2: rise and all ships will rise with the Seahawks sale
- 37:36Speaker 2: of potentially ten billion dollars four nine, four to five.
- 37:39Speaker 2: One my questions on the Tacoma Dodge text line, besides
- 37:43Speaker 2: the hundreds of texts we're getting about the top three
- 37:45Speaker 2: sports movies of all time, do you trust Jody Allen
- 37:47Speaker 2: Burke Cole to do the right thing for the Pacific
- 37:49Speaker 2: Northwest on the Seahawks sale or do you think this
- 37:52Speaker 2: is like every other money grab and taking the most money. Now,
- 37:54Speaker 2: remember it's not going into the pockets of Jody Allen
- 37:56Speaker 2: Burke cold It's going to the philanthropic interest of Paul G.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Allen as the Trust dictates.
- 38:03Speaker 1: That is different than sales of franchises.
- 38:07Speaker 2: It's usually max profit going into Think Howard Schultz, if
- 38:10Speaker 2: I dare mention that sold bought the team the Sonics
- 38:14Speaker 2: for a certain amount, sold it for a huge profit
- 38:16Speaker 2: to carpetbaggers in Oklahoma for money, period, and the story
- 38:21Speaker 2: not here. This is a different situation because the Island
- 38:23Speaker 2: Trust says the money is going to philanthropic interests four
- 38:27Speaker 2: nine four or five one. You're a read on what
- 38:29Speaker 2: you think Jody Allen Burke Cold are going to do
- 38:32Speaker 2: for the Pacific Northwest? Do you trust him? And there's
- 38:34Speaker 2: thirty years plus of history on their side and the
- 38:37Speaker 2: reason why we should have our trust. I don't know, Chris.
- 38:40Speaker 2: I think their record so far speaks for themselves, and
- 38:42Speaker 2: it'd be tough to be cynical about that.
- 38:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I think I trust the process.
- 38:47Speaker 3: I think they're going to get the right owner that
- 38:49Speaker 3: can come in and just own the team, doesn't want
- 38:53Speaker 3: to do all these other things that you see owners do.
- 38:55Speaker 4: Terry Jones, I think it'll just be the owner.
- 38:58Speaker 3: You might not even see him as much, maybe take
- 39:00Speaker 3: the backseat as Jody Allen did, and you might speak
- 39:03Speaker 3: to her once every year or something, you know, because
- 39:05Speaker 3: you guys didn't really talk to her much.
- 39:06Speaker 4: You just heard a couple of.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Things she would speak, and that would be that she
- 39:10Speaker 3: really allowed John and Mike McDonald, nonybody else to run things.
- 39:13Speaker 4: She was just the owner.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Well, so maybe they're more, but perhaps that's a part
- 39:18Speaker 3: of the discussion, like, Hey, we're trying to do it
- 39:20Speaker 3: this way, We're not wanting you to change the formula
- 39:23Speaker 3: and if you're not down with it, then you're not
- 39:25Speaker 3: our guy or gyle. So that'll be interesting to see
- 39:29Speaker 3: how it plays out. But I do believe they have
- 39:31Speaker 3: a couple of people in mind that will fit what
- 39:34Speaker 3: you've seen over the past decade with general with our
- 39:39Speaker 3: owner and what she's done and what she hasn't done.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Well, you know what to helped is if they even
- 39:43Speaker 2: got more bidders and they had more choices, so then
- 39:45Speaker 2: they could get picky like that. Okay, that's true, and
- 39:47Speaker 2: we don't know, We don't know be on the two
- 39:50Speaker 2: known competing bids, whether there are three or four or
- 39:53Speaker 2: six or seven. But the more bitter is the more
- 39:55Speaker 2: they could be choosy on the intangibles of how they
- 39:58Speaker 2: would run the team and how they would steward it
- 39:59Speaker 2: for the Pacific Northwest.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Four nine, four or five one.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Your thoughts on that, Your thoughts on what JP Crawford,
- 40:06Speaker 2: We haven't talked about it and we may not have
- 40:08Speaker 2: time to get into too detailed on it. But when
- 40:10Speaker 2: Brenda Donovan, who's now eligible to come off the injured list,
- 40:12Speaker 2: but no sign he's on a minor league rehab assigned
- 40:14Speaker 2: or anything. Yet when he does come back, it seems
- 40:16Speaker 2: he's gonna be a third base cold Emerson is not
- 40:19Speaker 2: going anywhere. He just hit for the major league cycle yesterday.
- 40:21Speaker 2: What's that? And getting a single, double, triple on home
- 40:24Speaker 2: run in the major league career. He did in twenty
- 40:25Speaker 2: nine at bats, the second fastest Chris to ever happen
- 40:29Speaker 2: in one hundred years of major league baseball one hundred
- 40:31Speaker 2: and ten years, I think it is twenty eight was
- 40:35Speaker 2: the fastest of major league cycle. And with the triple
- 40:37Speaker 2: yesterday in Sacramento, col Emerson got this major league cycle
- 40:40Speaker 2: in his twenty ninth at bat. Cole Young looks like
- 40:43Speaker 2: a stud at second base. I mean you, why would
- 40:45Speaker 2: you take him out of second base? And that means
- 40:48Speaker 2: when when Donovan comes back, what do you do four nine,
- 40:51Speaker 2: four or five one? What would you do with JP
- 40:52Speaker 2: crawfor would you send ninety five million dollars cold Emerson
- 40:55Speaker 2: back to Tacoma. It looks like that's not going to happen.
- 40:57Speaker 2: It's like Emerson's here to say up next, O guy
- 41:00Speaker 2: with Keith McPherson. He's the former host of WFAN Sports
- 41:03Speaker 2: and Radio in New York City. He's now the host
- 41:05Speaker 2: of Mike Czech Sports Talk. The talk show online talked
- 41:09Speaker 2: to him about the NBA playoffs, about the Knicks making
- 41:11Speaker 2: the NBA Finals for the first time since nineteen ninety nine.
- 41:14Speaker 2: That's Ax down ninety three point three KJRFM
