- Lucas: Velkommen til Episode 198 of Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, Luna is here to learn with you. Luna: Hey Lucas! After last episode on modal verbs, I tried to use them in real life. I wanted to say 'I must go get gas' but I realized I didn't know the words for the gas station. Lucas: That is such a perfect lead-in, Luna. Today we're going to learn exactly that – Norwegian at the gas station. So you can confidently say things like Jeg vil fylle bensin. Luna: Jeg vil fylle bensin. That's 'I want to fill gas', right? Lucas: Exactly. Jeg vil fylle bensin. Repeat after me: Jeg vil fylle bensin. Luna: Jeg vil fylle bensin. Lucas: Good. Let's break it down. Jeg vil means 'I want', fylle means 'to fill', and bensin is 'gas'. So you're saying 'I want to fill gas.' Try it again. Luna: Jeg vil fylle bensin. Lucas: Perfect. Now, another common phrase is Full tank, takk. That means 'Full tank, please'. Let's hear you. Luna: Full tank, takk. Lucas: Yes. Full tank, takk. You might say this when you pull up to the pump. Try it with a bit more confidence. Luna: Full tank, takk. Lucas: Nice. So imagine you're at a gas station in Norway. You roll down your window and say Jeg vil fylle bensin, and the attendant asks 'Full tank?' and you say Full tank, takk. Luna: That makes sense. But what if I want to ask the price? Like how much does the gas cost? Lucas: Great question. That's Hvor mye koster bensinen? Let's work on that. Hvor mye koster bensinen? Luna: Hvor mye koster bensinen? That's a mouthful. Lucas: It is, but you'll get it. Hvor mye means 'how much', koster means 'costs', and bensinen is 'the gas'. So literally 'How much costs the gas?' Try it slowly. Luna: Hvor mye koster bensinen? Lucas: You did it. Now a bit faster: Hvor mye koster bensinen? Luna: Hvor mye koster bensinen? Lucas: Excellent. Now, you'll probably want to pay with card, right? That's Kan jeg betale med kort? Luna: Kan jeg betale med kort? 'Can I pay with card?' Yes, that's useful. Lucas: Exactly. Kan jeg betale med kort? Say it with me. Luna: Kan jeg betale med kort? Lucas: Good. And one more phrase that might come in handy: Jeg trenger luft i dekkene. That means 'I need air in the tires.' Luna: Jeg trenger luft i dekkene. Oof, that's a long one. Lucas: Let's break it: Jeg trenger – I need, luft – air, i dekkene – in the tires. Try it piece by piece. Luna: Jeg trenger luft i dekkene. Lucas: Yes, better! Now, if you remember the modal verbs from last episode, you might say 'Jeg må fylle bensin' or 'Jeg vil fylle bensin'. Feel free to mix them in. Luna: So, if I'm learning all this with Fexingo, it's really helping me feel more prepared for real situations. Lucas: Absolutely. And honestly, if today's episode was worth a coffee to you, that's the link – buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It helps us keep making ad-free episodes like this one. Luna: Yeah, it's a small way to support the show if you're getting something out of it. So, back to the gas station – I think I'm ready to practice a little dialogue. Lucas: Great. Let's run a quick scene. You're at the pump. You say Jeg vil fylle bensin. Luna: Jeg vil fylle bensin. Lucas: Then the attendant might ask 'Full tank?' You say Full tank, takk. Luna: Full tank, takk. Lucas: Then you want the price, so you ask Hvor mye koster bensinen? Luna: Hvor mye koster bensinen? Lucas: And to pay, you say Kan jeg betale med kort? Luna: Kan jeg betale med kort? Lucas: And if you need air in your tires, you tell them Jeg trenger luft i dekkene. Luna: Jeg trenger luft i dekkene. Lucas: Let's put it all together. I'll be the attendant, you're the customer. Luna: Hei, jeg vil fylle bensin. Lucas: Full tank? Luna: Full tank, takk. Hvor mye koster bensinen? Lucas: Det blir 500 kroner. Luna: Kan jeg betale med kort? Lucas: Ja, det går bra. Noe annet? Luna: Ja, jeg trenger luft i dekkene. Lucas: Selvfølgelig. Great job, Luna! That's exactly how you would use these phrases. Luna: Tusen takk, Lucas. This was super practical. I feel ready to hit the road in Norway now. Lucas: And that's the goal. Practice these phrases a few times today. You can say them out loud when you're driving or just thinking about it. We'll be back with more. Vi sees! Luna: Vi sees! Takk for i dag.
