- 0:00get laced up let's go it's time for banter with
- 0:04the boys welcome back to banter with the boys
- 0:19gridiron updates week Week two. Week two. We
- 0:25are going to be recapping in this episode the
- 0:27week one games that we previewed last week. If
- 0:31you listen, if you're an avid listener to the
- 0:33Banter with the Boys, we have an avid listener
- 0:34of Banter with the Boys here with us today. But
- 0:37before we get to him, we always start with him.
- 0:40Start with him last. Yep, that makes sense. We
- 0:42always finish with him last. Finish him. Kev,
- 0:46behind the camera, get everything done for us.
- 0:48To my Larry, it is Jake Cobb. As Roberto likes
- 0:54to say. Yep. Yep. Hi. What's up? You like the
- 1:00Ravens. I do. And the Vikings, right? No. Actually,
- 1:04I think Jake's a little disturbed by the Vikings
- 1:06game this week. We'll get to it. Yeah, he's a
- 1:10little disturbed. We'll get to it. Roberto to
- 1:13my Randy. What's up, buddy? Just ready to talk
- 1:15some football. It's a good week one. Get it in
- 1:18the system, you know. I'm excited to keep it
- 1:21going. We've got 20 more weeks of football. Excitement.
- 1:25Hopefully no one's overacting too much on their
- 1:29team's first week result. We'll get to it. That's
- 1:33the best part of it. We do have some overreactions,
- 1:35but that's right. To his right, Dom, avid listener
- 1:39and returner, Don Banter with the boys. Let's
- 1:41give Dom a round of applause. There he is. It's
- 1:46good to be back, fellas. Big time listener, avid
- 1:48listener. Just got off the links. What'd you
- 1:52shoot on the links today? Let the people know.
- 1:54Let the people know. Greenlee. Greenlee Albert
- 1:56Lee. Stop by any time. We've got a great greens
- 1:58and 80 on the nuts today. 80 on the nuts today.
- 2:01And how far did you drive to get here today?
- 2:03How long did that drive take? About an hour 25.
- 2:06That's how bad he is to banter with the boys.
- 2:08There it is, fellas. Trying to make it happen.
- 2:10All right. All right. Well, without further ado,
- 2:12let's get into our. Yeah. Yeah. What do they.
- 2:16Yeah, whatever. I'm going to. I'm going to get
- 2:17sidetracked. All right. I keep going. What are
- 2:21we talking about? Football. Week one. Our first
- 2:23game that we previewed last week was the Patriots
- 2:26traveling to the Seattle Seahawks, the Super
- 2:29Bowl matchup, and the Seahawks have done it again,
- 2:3113 -10. Let's start with Dom. Let's start with
- 2:36me. People would say that they didn't win the
- 2:39way that they usually win, you know? Gave it
- 2:41to the Price is Right, Jaden, or what's his first
- 2:44name, right? Yeah. Jaden Price. I had it all
- 2:47set up. Jaden Price is right. You know, good
- 2:50to have him. It's week one. We're all rusty.
- 2:52We're all rusty on here, Dom. Since Charbonnet
- 2:55is not there at the moment, Chardonnay, you know.
- 2:57There he is. So it was good to have Jaden Price
- 3:00be able to run the rock for them, especially
- 3:02as being a late draft pick from Notre Dame. And
- 3:07then Drew Locke came in, did what a backup did.
- 3:10Didn't do too much, didn't do too little, you
- 3:13know. He tried for his best Carson Wentz impression.
- 3:16100%. Did everything right, yeah. Besides that,
- 3:22I mean, the defense was pretty locked in to me,
- 3:24I felt like. I mean, coming back from where they
- 3:30were at in the situation, just like losing. Sam
- 3:32Darnold, so early in the game, was definitely
- 3:34not what anybody had in the cards for me. They
- 3:38didn't have it on that first 10 scripted plays.
- 3:41No, it's not. Or did he last more than 10 plays?
- 3:43He lasted more than 10. No, he didn't last more
- 3:46than 10. That was the first drive. Yeah, it was
- 3:47the first drive. Finish up. How are you feeling
- 3:51about the rest of it? The rest of the game was
- 3:53pretty solid. I mean, Drake definitely made a
- 3:56couple of bad decisions. I mean, the last play
- 3:58to lose it the way he did. Definitely not how
- 4:01I want my quarterback to be going out. Your quarterback?
- 4:06Is he your boy, Drake May? No. No, no, no. I
- 4:10wanted him as a Vikings fan, so I guess I can
- 4:12claim him as my boy. So, Rob, you dig into the
- 4:16QBs all the time pretty deep. Yes. Are there
- 4:19any glaring concerns with Drake May's game, or
- 4:21is this just a week one, get the rust out, you
- 4:23know, whatever? Playing in a tough environment.
- 4:25Yeah, definitely tough environment. That front
- 4:27seven of Seattle is elite. They displayed that
- 4:32the whole game. We were talking about the secondary
- 4:35last week being banged up. They showed up and,
- 4:39you know, showed out a little bit. Yeah, I was
- 4:40going to mention that. I kind of talked crap
- 4:42on that. Sorry to steal your takes. No, no. Rob's
- 4:44stealing notes again. That's right. I have them
- 4:47up right here. From ESPN. Yeah, he was a little
- 4:51reckless on a couple of those picks. That first
- 4:55one was definitely a throw 50 -50 ball that he
- 4:59shunned. It's going to be interesting once, you
- 5:01know, A .J. Brown went down. How that offense
- 5:04continues to develop, you know, what, four or
- 5:08five weeks, which he's probably out. It's going
- 5:10to be interesting who's going to step up. Dobbs
- 5:12had a huge drop. They kind of really killed him
- 5:16a little bit in that game. What did A .J. Brown
- 5:18end up having? What was the high ankle? Yeah.
- 5:20Yeah. On the other side of the ball, Patriots
- 5:25D, they played very well. Price does look nice.
- 5:31He's a dude. Real nice. Feeling that walk or
- 5:34roll. Looks like he can. Which was one of our
- 5:37bigger questions last week as well. Good overall
- 5:41first game. Good defensive game. I loved it.
- 5:45Obviously, with Sam going down, changed the aspect
- 5:48of how they were going to operate. They just
- 5:51tightened it down. We're not going to beat ourselves.
- 5:55We're going to play D. And, you know, they got
- 5:57an opportunity in the second half and got it
- 5:59done. Yes, sir. I was just about to say, do we
- 6:01have a timetable for Sam? But it says, like,
- 6:04a week, possible week four return. Could return
- 6:08sooner, but week four right now, they're eyeing
- 6:10up for Sam Donald. Oh, Sammy D. Well, well. Yeah,
- 6:18I guess, yeah, the only thing I was going to
- 6:19touch on is something you already mentioned was
- 6:21the Seattle secondary. I was a little concerned
- 6:23with some injuries back there, but, man, they
- 6:25shut me up with three picks. That's right. You
- 6:28know, and locking down, you know, somebody that
- 6:30we know has played at a high level in Drake May.
- 6:32So, yeah, it was bittersweet for me because I
- 6:36like defense more than offense. I was like, these
- 6:38boys showed up to play. I had to eat my words
- 6:41from last week a little bit. Yeah, and then Jackson
- 6:43Smith Najiba definitely stepped up and played
- 6:46number one receiver. Even having Drew Locke come
- 6:48in there, he definitely still had over 100 yards
- 6:50out there, so it was super solid for him. Yeah.
- 6:53The screen pass with the rack really helps the
- 6:55stat. Anytime. His touchdown, too, is that fourth
- 6:59and two, and he just runs a short hooker out,
- 7:02and he's just standing right there in that zone.
- 7:05So, I mean. Quick, simple routes and passes like
- 7:08that make it a lot easier for your backups to
- 7:10just be like, all right, there he is. Get the
- 7:12ball into my best player's hands and let him
- 7:14go make plays, and that's what he did. Showing
- 7:16why he was Offensive Player of the Year. Let's
- 7:18hear that, LaFerre. Ooh. Ooh. We're not even
- 7:23there yet. Not even there yet. Got to warm it
- 7:27up. All right, before we move on from these two
- 7:31teams, the Patriots have the Pittsburgh Steelers
- 7:34at home. Just real quick, can I say quick hits?
- 7:38Because somebody uses that. Steal it. There's
- 7:42real quick hits on that. Before we move on, Patriots
- 7:45at home against the Steelers. Do they leave their
- 7:50home stadium one and one? Bounce back for sure,
- 7:52100%. Yeah, get the win. That's one. Winning
- 7:55next week against the Steelers, Patriots. Don't
- 7:58need to go into a whole thing. Because I know
- 8:01you want to get analytical immediately. Not me.
- 8:04Not Mr. Analytics. Me? Not Mr. Analytics himself.
- 8:07Yes. Yes. All right. We're in agreeance. 4 -0.
- 8:11If the Patriots don't win next week, I guess
- 8:13unsubscribe. I don't know. Please don't. Wait
- 8:16a minute. Wait, wait, wait. Shut up. Shut up.
- 8:19Please look at the ticker Kevin made for us.
- 8:21All right. All right. All right. And then Seattle.
- 8:24They have, just because we're not talking about
- 8:26these teams, they travel to Arizona, who did
- 8:29kind of win, possibly not an upset by any means,
- 8:33but, I mean, you probably didn't think. I certainly
- 8:36didn't. They weren't going to be my pick. They
- 8:39wouldn't have been my pick. So next week, Seattle
- 8:42at Arizona. I think Seattle wins. Seattle pulls
- 8:45that off. I would imagine so as well. You're
- 8:48going to Arizona for sure. No, I'm going to Seattle.
- 8:50Seattle. Is that defense? There it is. I'm going
- 8:54to go back and listen and make sure. I'm just
- 8:56curious. 100%. Good luck on that path. All right.
- 8:59Anyway. All right. Next game of the week from
- 9:05week one here. The Melbourne game. The Niners
- 9:10running away with a 27 -7 over the Rams. Is it
- 9:15that 8%, 16%, 24 % because they traveled late
- 9:20and lost all that water here? We're tired of
- 9:22hydration now. Why are we watering? Love it.
- 9:27Love it. Keep going, keep going. I'm just curious.
- 9:29I don't know if it was the hydration, but I do
- 9:33think the travel. Traveling later? Yeah, because
- 9:36they traveled the day before, and so you're going
- 9:38to sit on a plane for. 18 hours and then try
- 9:42and act like nothing ever happened the next day
- 9:45and you're just going to continue to do your
- 9:46thing. Yeah, they said they had to get up. It
- 9:48was crazy. Yeah, I'm just like, nah. So you're
- 9:52on the fence of that that affected their play?
- 9:54100 % because they seemed just absolutely slow.
- 9:59I'm curious about the... their preseason prep,
- 10:02too, because they just seemed, like, out of shape.
- 10:05I know that not a lot of players are in, like,
- 10:07football condition right now, but they didn't
- 10:10look like they were in football condition. One
- 10:11guy at 95 looked 95. Yeah. Because when did they
- 10:14play? They played on, was it Thursday? Yeah.
- 10:16Last week, right? Yeah. And when did the Rams
- 10:18travel there? They traveled Wednesday. That.
- 10:22Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. Because we thought
- 10:25about it, because when we ripped the last show,
- 10:28I think the Niners were already there. Right,
- 10:30the Niners have been there for an entire week.
- 10:31And got acclimated to it. And then you think
- 10:34about it. There's got to be something to be said
- 10:35about that. And then after that. Whose decision
- 10:37is that? Is that McVay's decision? Yeah, 100
- 10:39% McVay. And so I think it's going to play out
- 10:45to the benefit of the 49ers because as soon as
- 10:48that game's over, you can be like, all right,
- 10:50let's pack our bags and let's go because we now
- 10:51have a week and a half to re -acclimate. and
- 10:54then be ready for week two. Whereas now the Rams
- 11:00are like, all right, we got our butts whipped.
- 11:02Let's go back and just try and recover. They're
- 11:07off to a rough start. I still think the Rams
- 11:10are going to be a really tough out for any team,
- 11:12so I'm not ruling them out yet, but more decision
- 11:15-making in terms of getting ready for the game.
- 11:18For sure. That and Stafford's got to look a little
- 11:20bit better. He definitely looked a little. rusty
- 11:23in that game. So that's what I'm looking for
- 11:26next week. Who do they play next week? Real quick.
- 11:29Before I forget. The Giants. 49ers D just balled
- 11:33out. They were flying all over. And they made
- 11:37it very difficult. They didn't miss any tackles.
- 11:42There's a video clip of Fred Warner that's on
- 11:46the opposite side of the... the field and then
- 11:50he's just running across and he's just like cruise
- 11:52missiles in on the tackle or with the tackle
- 11:55and just like man they're just it's good to have
- 11:57them back on yeah and like one of our viewers
- 11:59mentioned in common talking about last year they're
- 12:01down to their third string and they still have
- 12:04finished playoff you know like and he's like
- 12:07they got their squad and warner was one of the
- 12:09guys that was down you know so like when he's
- 12:11back that defense looks completely different
- 12:14thousand percent and then nick boas is back so
- 12:17yeah Yeah, the Rams did look slow, definitely
- 12:20on the defensive side. Sorry, I'm just jumping
- 12:22in and taking this, but this is where they just
- 12:24look fatigued. And it's week one. They're, you
- 12:27know, kicking the mouth. Everyone that said they
- 12:29were going to go undefeated. So all those people
- 12:31can, you know, calm down, you know. I mean, 95
- 12:36being out for four weeks is interesting. So that's
- 12:39the problem. He's not in shape, and now he's
- 12:41going to get a knee thing. So how long until
- 12:44week eight, nine, he's in the football shape
- 12:47finally? The Ravens are looking a little bit
- 12:50more smarter on why they didn't make it happen.
- 12:54It's interesting, yes. And now you're expecting
- 12:57Aaron Donald to come in and save the day. Yeah.
- 13:00After being out of the game for. Two years. But
- 13:04he's not taking all them hits at two years. That's
- 13:06my only saving grace. I don't know. It's the
- 13:09only thing. Still got to play against NFL players.
- 13:11But the speed of the game is just insane. The
- 13:14one thing I wanted to say is Debo Samuel scoring
- 13:17a touchdown in a Niners jersey again just feels
- 13:19right. Yeah, for sure. It sucks because when
- 13:22he played for the Niners before, we know all
- 13:24about that as Vikings fans, and so do you Packers
- 13:26fans. But just him scoring a touchdown again
- 13:28in a Niners jersey was just interesting to see.
- 13:31Felt right. And Mike Evans, too. It's good to
- 13:34have Mike Evans on that team. I mean, I feel
- 13:36like Brock Purdy really hasn't had a real solid
- 13:38number one receiver at how. the capacity of mike
- 13:43evans as you could say like you can just throw
- 13:45it up to him in the end zone and he can go get
- 13:46it i mean he's that kiddo but he's never really
- 13:48had a big receiver like that in his career so
- 13:50to have that is definitely super nice for that
- 13:53for that uh for that offense and then on the
- 13:56ram side i would say they have a really good
- 13:58one -two punch with quorum and kyron williams
- 14:01that's gonna be really nice to have down the
- 14:02road but like you guys said they definitely got
- 14:04to get in shape and and in the past mcfay's made
- 14:07this happen too he's won a game going overseas
- 14:10On only just one day is also. So this is definitely
- 14:13just he's done this before. Coram's got more
- 14:16explosiveness, too, than I always expect. Every
- 14:18single time he touches the ball. Michigan, man.
- 14:21I know. I hate it. I hate it. Play with nine.
- 14:24Play with nine. You hate him, too. Michigan.
- 14:28Real quick before we move on from this. Real
- 14:32quick before we move on from this game. Because
- 14:33I don't know where we'd even put Kev's corner
- 14:37if that was a tent talk. It's been a while. He's
- 14:42learning. That was aggressively quick. We didn't
- 14:47talk about this at all. I don't see this on Spotify.
- 14:57You don't hear it? I don't hear that on Spotify.
- 15:02So Spotify just, like, is wondering what happens
- 15:05in that moment. They don't hear the clap, and
- 15:07we're all just like. Anyway, real quick, Kev's
- 15:12Corner question, because we just talked about
- 15:14the Melbourne game. He asks, how do you guys
- 15:18feel? Well, first, should international games
- 15:21continue to happen? How do you feel about that
- 15:24and growing the game outside of the country?
- 15:26Yeah, for sure. I mean, 100%. I mean, one thing
- 15:29I definitely know that people don't want is a
- 15:31Super Bowl. Overseas to happen Because it would
- 15:34be crazy ticket prices. I couldn't imagine paying
- 15:37for a ticket to go overseas and then paying for
- 15:39the tickets to get into the game. Oh, for sure.
- 15:41You know, but I mean, I'm definitely down for
- 15:42it. Keep it going. Keep it more. Yeah, I like
- 15:44it. I mean, I know something. It affects the
- 15:46season like Rams, for example, in this game.
- 15:49I mean, that arguably that that could affect
- 15:51their season, you know, immediately in week one.
- 15:54And that's the follow up question for Cavs corners.
- 15:57How do you feel about an international game being
- 15:59week one versus later in the season? Is it better
- 16:02that it's early? You know. I think I said it
- 16:05last week to some extent where it was just like,
- 16:08I wish this game was later in the season so that
- 16:12both teams. So I think the NFL is doing a disservice
- 16:17to the international fans to be like, all right,
- 16:22you guys are going to get week one. A bunch of
- 16:26players, a bunch of starters that haven't. I
- 16:29mean, they've practiced, but they haven't really
- 16:30played a preseason game. Yeah. And so everyone's
- 16:34rusty and out of shape. And like, what kind of
- 16:36product are you giving them? If you want to continue
- 16:39to grow the international scene, it's like, let's
- 16:42try and get it like week four, week five, and
- 16:46then offset it or allow the teams an extra, like
- 16:52throw in another week. It's another like a buy.
- 16:54It's like, all right, you're having an international
- 16:56game. And now you have a week off. Like, force
- 17:01that on them versus right now they have the option.
- 17:04They pick the teams that are going to be doing
- 17:06an international game, and they're like, hey.
- 17:08You're doing this international game. Do you
- 17:10want your bye week immediately following, or
- 17:12do you want it at another time? So the team has
- 17:14the choice, but why not, if the goal is to grow
- 17:16it, every team plays one international game,
- 17:19throw in an extra week as an additional bye week
- 17:22for everyone, just to offset that travel. Then
- 17:24have the Super Bowl on that Sunday with the following
- 17:28of President's Day? Yeah. So like end of February,
- 17:32beginning of March. They'd rather have a game
- 17:33than give another bye week, though. Right. But
- 17:38maybe that's – but if you add an 18th game, I
- 17:43think the Players Association is going to require
- 17:46a second bye. And then all of a sudden you're
- 17:49like, all right, there's our in for our one required
- 17:52international game for every team. Like that
- 17:55take? Yeah, interesting. You'll see that on a
- 17:58reel. You would think they would have to standardize
- 18:01the travel then or continue to leave that in
- 18:03the team's hands? Well, I think they could leave
- 18:05that into the team's hands as to when they wanted
- 18:10to travel. Right on, right on. Well, we went
- 18:13down that frickin' rabbit hole. It was good.
- 18:15Great question, Kev. Yeah, good job, Kev. I'm
- 18:17not going to give my take because it's like 45
- 18:19minutes. Fair enough. I'll get to that other
- 18:25Kev's Corner question as well. All right. Ravens
- 18:28at Colts, game three. Oh, we didn't even go over.
- 18:36Let's see. For the first game, Seattle against
- 18:39Patriots. I was the only one to pick Patriots.
- 18:41I think because you picked Seattle too, didn't
- 18:44you? And then for Rams, Niners. Didn't you pick
- 18:47Niners? Yes, I did. Oh, look at that. We all
- 18:50picked Rams up here other than Dom. This game,
- 18:53we all picked Ravens. Back in the lead already.
- 18:56What did you pick? Ravens, Colts. Ravens. Jake,
- 19:01take it away. It's your flock. That's cold. I
- 19:06like that. I was not prepared for that. 2026.
- 19:122026 banter with the boys going crazy. It's not
- 19:15AI slop. AI slop. Where do I start? Lots of notes.
- 19:24I think for the most part, yeah, we did. Defense
- 19:28showed up. Which is weird for you guys. Whoa.
- 19:34I'm just giving you ideas. My bad. Go for it.
- 19:37Let's see. So. I mean, I guess out of the entire
- 19:41game, my biggest concern, and as I looked back
- 19:43at it, it made sense. The Ravens kind of did
- 19:47still let the Colts run the ball effectively.
- 19:50And it's Jonathan Taylor. He's a really great
- 19:52running back. He almost hit 100 yards over the
- 19:55course of the entire game. And if you think about
- 19:59that, I mean, like how the score was and he still
- 20:01got 100 yards, like that's a little bit concerning
- 20:03long term for the Ravens, the ability to stop
- 20:06the run term. But they were playing out of the
- 20:12gates nickel and dime. So they were doing a...
- 20:16Excuse me. Their base formation is now 3 -4.
- 20:23So they would go with a 3 -3, and then they're
- 20:26running either two or three linebackers. Okay.
- 20:32And then a whole bunch of, like... Quick DB,
- 20:36guys. Yeah. So obviously that leaves them more
- 20:40susceptible to to the run game. So that kind
- 20:43of makes sense. Why would you why would that
- 20:46be your game plan against Jonathan Taylor? I
- 20:49I don't know. That's really weird because in
- 20:53my mind, I'm like, well, if Daniel Jones is coming
- 20:55back from an Achilles, let's stack the box, stop
- 20:57the run, and see if Daniel Jones can beat us.
- 21:00Captain Hunter 100, that's a win. That's where
- 21:03I'm going with that. You think maybe it's like
- 21:05great players are going to get theirs, and then
- 21:08you just do everything that you can to stop everybody
- 21:10else. That's probably what the mindset was going
- 21:13into that. I was really impressed with the play
- 21:17calling. We quote that cabin right there, that
- 21:22little sound. Impressed with the play calling?
- 21:25Well, because Declan Doyle stuck with or took
- 21:30the things that worked with Lamar and Derrick
- 21:33Henry, and that's what they did out of the gates.
- 21:37They were like, all right, we're going to do
- 21:38RPOs. We're going to do options with Henry and
- 21:42Lamar. We're going to do bootlegs. get Jackson
- 21:45out of the pocket, make the defense guess where's
- 21:48the ball going to, like who's going to actually
- 21:50be getting the ball. Yeah. And that's going to
- 21:54make them dangerous. And then as they continue
- 21:56to at least. They literally ran away with the
- 22:03game because Derrick Henry had 144 yards. Something
- 22:06that I've always preached is like, you give Derrick
- 22:09Henry lots of touches, you want 20 plus. He 24
- 22:13for the 144 and the three. Zia Flowers looked
- 22:18amazing. I think we saw an example of why he
- 22:21was worth the contract extension. It was a bummer
- 22:23that he hurt his hamstring. And so he's going
- 22:26to be day -to -day. Ooh, changing our pick. Lane
- 22:30got hurt. He did, yeah, with that wrist injury.
- 22:33He's going to be out longer. But, man, they really
- 22:36spread the ball around. Yeah, they did. There's
- 22:38a ton of people that touched the ball. And with
- 22:41Flowers and even Jacoby Lane being injured for
- 22:46next. For next week, this is maybe some foreshadowing
- 22:49for my pick. I'm not overly concerned about it
- 22:51because of... some of the depth of their... He's
- 22:54going with the Ravens. Big guess, but tune in
- 22:57to the preview and picks week two episode. Spoilers!
- 23:00Spoilers! I think that they've got some depth
- 23:05at wide receiver now that they can afford to
- 23:07not rush Zay Flowers back with that hamstring
- 23:10injury because you don't want to rush that back
- 23:12where he's going to potentially make it worse.
- 23:15That's the same hamstring, right? From camp or
- 23:17something? Yeah. Not good. Loved everything that
- 23:22I saw, and I'm looking forward to what is going
- 23:26to continue to happen, hopefully. Right, Don.
- 23:29For these Ravens. Touch on it. He killed it.
- 23:34Don's got it. Let's Dom rip on it. Rip it up,
- 23:38Don. We can talk about the Colts a little bit.
- 23:40I mean, I know they didn't come up and play the
- 23:41best game in the world. I mean, by what I see,
- 23:45I mean, Tyler Warren got a touchdown, which is
- 23:46nice. I mean, feed him in the end zone, in the
- 23:48red zone. You got to give it to the big guy.
- 23:50Jonathan Taylor is going to be obviously great
- 23:53down the long road. And, I mean, I just see Daniel
- 23:57Jones. He came back from a torn Achilles. Right.
- 23:59He looked like he came back from a torn Achilles.
- 24:02Right. And for me. I just think it's crazy nowadays.
- 24:06Like, him and Patrick Mahomes are both starting
- 24:08week one, and they both got really hurt last
- 24:12year. Significantly. It's not like we just had
- 24:14a couple of high -income sprains. You know, we
- 24:16had a couple of torn Achilles and a couple of
- 24:17torn ACLs. And, I mean, I feel like 10 years
- 24:20ago, guys weren't coming back from that that
- 24:22quickly like that. You know. AP all day. AP all
- 24:25day. So, great dub by the Ravens. They just came
- 24:29out and Jesse Minter. Great first win as a head
- 24:32coach of the Ravens, and I'm excited for you
- 24:35guys' future with him. So good W. Looking forward
- 24:38to it. I mean, running RPO with Henry and Lamar
- 24:43is so hard. Until injuries happen. And, you know,
- 24:50that's the only thing that looks like it's going
- 24:52to slow them down unless some team wants to get
- 24:54in a track meet with them. I do not suggest.
- 24:58Yeah, it's going to be interesting for the opponents
- 25:02for the Ravens moving on right now. Right on,
- 25:05right on. With that, let's head to our fourth
- 25:07and final game of our week one recap. However,
- 25:12I'm not the one introducing it. It'll be Roberto.
- 25:16I don't know what. He just wanted it. I mean,
- 25:22Vikes come off with a big win here. We made a
- 25:26video here with some highlights here. Kevin,
- 25:28can you cue it up so if you didn't catch the
- 25:30game, you kind of... We did it for the Vikes
- 25:33but nobody else. Geez, I wonder why. Donovan
- 25:37Jennings gets worked. Absolutely f***ing worked.
- 25:41What a shot. Hey! How about stop running play
- 25:48action when their defensive line gets to you
- 25:53in three seconds? Stop with the play action.
- 25:58He doesn't know how to count. This is nightmare
- 26:00fuel, bro. This is nightmare fuel. Embarrassment,
- 26:04man. Donovan Jennings gets worked. Absolutely
- 26:09fucking worked. Interesting first half. How about
- 26:16stop running? Obviously, Kyler Murray getting
- 26:20hurt after 12 plays kind of shook it up a little
- 26:25bit with Carson Wentz coming in. I'm glad the
- 26:27defensive player was not ejected. Yes, I agree.
- 26:31I mean, it was a football play. Kyler Murray's
- 26:32wearing a... a football jersey. He's a football
- 26:35player. He kind of put himself in it. They both
- 26:37kind of started going slide and the tackle simultaneously.
- 26:42I'm just glad he wasn't ejected for that. Get
- 26:45rid of the slide. That's all I'm going to say
- 26:49with that. I love JJ. That's another 45 minutes.
- 26:54I think it's big for him because of him only
- 26:57having two touchdowns last year. Getting him
- 26:59started hot and believing. Great start on that
- 27:04aspect. I mean, the refs, it wasn't their best
- 27:07game. Just overall. It wasn't their best game.
- 27:11I think it wasn't one of their best weeks as
- 27:18a whole. If you look at the entire slate of games
- 27:26that was played this week, I don't think officiating
- 27:28was great. I agree. For the most part. So tell
- 27:32us more about that, because I feel like you're
- 27:34kind of on the Packer fans' field here. I have
- 27:37one massive problem with the game. So I've got
- 27:42two. We'll call it one massive problem. Like
- 27:49bonehead move, maybe? No, I wouldn't say bonehead.
- 27:52There's definitely a bonehead move in this game.
- 27:56Anyway, sorry, you go. I keep putting other ideas.
- 27:59So there's a couple of things. I'll just say
- 28:02this first. I don't mind the decision that they
- 28:06went for it on fourth and one after they got
- 28:07that offsides penalty on the field goal. No,
- 28:10I didn't mind the decision to go for it. I get
- 28:12the idea behind it, but I hate it. Trying to
- 28:14go up by eight at that. or at least the field
- 28:18goal put them up at eight. If you get the first
- 28:20down, you potentially get more points. And you're
- 28:22kicking it deep to a Vikings offense that wasn't
- 28:24doing a damn thing. So the play call was poor.
- 28:30It was an awful play call because you were just
- 28:33doing a QB sneak. This isn't Tom Brady. Thank
- 28:36you, homie. Dominique, big citrus. This isn't
- 28:41Tom Brady who's like. 99 out of 100 on getting
- 28:45first downs on QB sneaks. Is that his Madden
- 28:48rating? No, his Madden rating is probably 100
- 28:51still. But so there's that probably the questionable
- 28:59decision is the play call on that fourth and
- 29:01one. But no matter what, if you don't get it,
- 29:03of course you're looked at as the bad guy. Right.
- 29:06Yes. But I don't think that there is anything
- 29:08wrong with that. And I don't. If you look at
- 29:12other decisions that may have potentially cost
- 29:15teams games, like if you look at Lion Saints,
- 29:19the Saints went for two to try and take the win
- 29:21instead of taking a tie. That's a different situation.
- 29:26How is it different? They're coming out for a
- 29:28win. Literally for the game in that single play.
- 29:32Don't get me wrong. That play could have been
- 29:33for the game. That play technically was for the
- 29:36game. I agree. Because you took points off the
- 29:38freaking board, which you never freaking do.
- 29:40No. But because it was such a, one, it was a
- 29:43giant momentum swing for the Vikings. Like, the
- 29:46fans went crazy. Right. Giant boost and motivated
- 29:50the offense. 100%. But then the Packers essentially
- 29:53had to stop them, and then you've got the, like
- 29:57the, what? No, not, before that, they had the
- 30:01illegal contact. Which is true. Which was illegal.
- 30:05Questionable. I mean. We're getting kind of question.
- 30:09No, that's, I'm just like, no, that was rough.
- 30:12I mean, but we still won by 17 points. So if
- 30:14we take that one drive away, we still win by
- 30:16what? So, but that, but you don't know that completely,
- 30:19but you don't, you don't necessarily know that.
- 30:22Right. Exactly. But I'm just, I'm just saying
- 30:25that. So there's that play. Then there's the,
- 30:28the roughing, the passer penalty. And then there
- 30:31was the additional, additional PI, right? No,
- 30:35it wasn't. It was a legal contact. Yeah, another
- 30:37legal contact down at the goal line. But that
- 30:38play, it was different because in that drive
- 30:39that you were talking about, that's when Hutch
- 30:41caught the touchdown pass. That P .I. was later
- 30:44in the game. No, I'm not talking about the P
- 30:45.I. There were three penalties on that drive.
- 30:48Yeah, but not that penalty. Just clarifying.
- 30:51Right. That ultimately led to Minnesota getting
- 30:55that touchdown, taking the lead, and then...
- 30:59But that was the... Was that the Hockinson touchdown?
- 31:02That was Wentz's best throw of the day. Yeah.
- 31:05And then, okay, so before the Packer field goal,
- 31:10the Viking touchdown right before that, was that
- 31:12Jeddah's deep on the free play? So that's my
- 31:15point, right? The Vikings scored on the free
- 31:18play, which is sick and blah, blah, blah. They
- 31:20were kind of driving on that drive, but not really.
- 31:23They just took advantage of the situation, and
- 31:25Jeddah's is going to Jeddah's. But my... That's
- 31:29my argument for keeping the points on the board
- 31:31if you're the Packers because you already made
- 31:32it. You know those points are up. You're up eight,
- 31:35so you still either force them to go for two,
- 31:37which they may or may not have right away if
- 31:40they scored immediately. I don't know. I just
- 31:42feel like you had the momentum as a Packer. Right.
- 31:44So if you have the momentum, why not go for the
- 31:47throat? Go for the fourth and one. Yeah. Again,
- 31:52I don't hate the decision that they wanted to
- 31:54go for. Again, if you do get it and then score.
- 31:57Score six after that, if you're looking pretty.
- 32:00Yeah, you're up 12, and now that's two scores.
- 32:02They had other opportunities to get back in the
- 32:04game. I know, but I just wanted to take points
- 32:07off the board. I'm mad. That's me. So I'm annoyed
- 32:10by the officiating in that particular drive.
- 32:12For sure. Agreed. And ultimately, what I'll say
- 32:16is this, and I believe this. He's a Packer fan.
- 32:19No, he's not. I knew it. It took him one week
- 32:23to switch. Too much purple. He's choking. No,
- 32:27there's a saying or a phrase out there that the
- 32:31teams have to play better than the ref's ref,
- 32:33and that's 100 % true. I mean, which is always
- 32:34true. So, I mean, I can be mad at the refs, but
- 32:39then also it does fall on the players to execute.
- 32:42But I think that those three calls had more of
- 32:48an impact on the game in that moment. than probably,
- 32:54like, the rest of the game. Well, the rough in
- 32:56the passer was on a third down, wasn't it? Yeah.
- 32:58So it's just like third and three. Third and
- 33:00three. Yeah. Yeah, it's like. I think it's probably
- 33:03what it went for on third and three anyways.
- 33:06Even if they don't call a penalty there. He went
- 33:08up top when he, like, started up top. Yeah, but
- 33:10he, like, braced himself with two hands, right?
- 33:12Yeah, he's, like, falling. That's tough. If I'm
- 33:14a defender, what else do you want me doing? It
- 33:15sucks. It sucks. It's part of the game. So what
- 33:18else do you want me to do? Dom says get bent,
- 33:20son. Literally. Get up and do it again. I've
- 33:23been a Vikings fan for 32 years old, and then
- 33:26I've literally gotten bent a thousand times by
- 33:28the Vikings. And you can put that on a reel.
- 33:32The Vikings have bent me. That Dom likes getting
- 33:34bent. Hey, this week as a Vikings fan, you just
- 33:41got to be happy. At the end of it, we just got
- 33:44to be happy. When I see the first 12 plays with
- 33:48Kyler Murray and he throws a YOLO ball to God
- 33:50knows who, McKinney. Don't know who it was going
- 33:53to. No, it was going to Jennings. No, I'm saying
- 33:57who intercepted it. Nixon. Nixon. Okay, Nixon.
- 34:00He made a great play on that, actually. But again,
- 34:04as a sitting duck, I would hope he can make that
- 34:06play. I can make that play, too. No, he came
- 34:08off coverage and made an amazing play. He was
- 34:10on Hawkinson on the far outside. I don't agree
- 34:13with the play call. I think he should have checked
- 34:15out of it to something else. But the dude made
- 34:19a nice play. Yeah, bad decision because of the
- 34:21outcome. But if that dude's there, he might have
- 34:24caught it. I mean, honestly, if you looked at
- 34:30the play, Nixon made a nice play. But it was
- 34:33kind of a dumb overall. Yeah, they were coming
- 34:35hot. They were coming 12 in the box. Everybody
- 34:37was coming. And like I said, I mean, me being
- 34:39a Vikings fan this week was like a roller coaster
- 34:42as usual. First quarter is as blah as you can
- 34:45get. And I mean, after that, I would say a big.
- 34:50People would say the momentum change would be
- 34:52the fourth and one missing. But to me, I feel
- 34:56like what really kicked it off was the Miles
- 34:59Price kick return as far as we went. Oh, yeah.
- 35:01Which was big. Which was crucial, especially
- 35:03where we needed it, you know. He almost broke
- 35:05one earlier, too. And then, I mean, defense did
- 35:08not bend in the second half. You know, it was
- 35:11great. Dallas Turner had eight pressures. He
- 35:14should have had four sacks. He was all over the
- 35:16field. He only had one sack, you know. He was
- 35:18awesome. Obviously, Big Citrus, I'm really excited
- 35:24for his future as a Viking. It's going to be
- 35:26really exciting to see what happens. Obviously,
- 35:28we've got to work on a lot more with the offense.
- 35:30Everybody's freaking out about Banks not playing.
- 35:32It's like, yeah, well, Miles Garrett is down
- 35:34for four weeks. Shut up. I'd rather not lose
- 35:36Banks to the rest of them. It's fine. It's good.
- 35:40Guys that we didn't talk about on the offensive
- 35:42side that I thought really stepped up. So, I
- 35:48mean, Carson Wentz. I mean, plain and simple.
- 35:51Had three touchdowns in, make no mistakes. Took
- 35:54some bad sacks. He just likes to hold on to the
- 35:56ball. And, God, I feel bad for the guy because
- 35:58he looks like he's just getting demolished out
- 36:01there. I mean, I expected J .J. McCarthy to be,
- 36:04quote, unquote, activated. You know, for sure.
- 36:08So, I mean, great W by the Vikings. Take it.
- 36:11Take it. MSU North, you know. We'll take it.
- 36:14Yeah, I'm going to throw some notables on the
- 36:16defense. I thought Redmond and Rodriguez played
- 36:18awesome up front. The Packers did not have really
- 36:22a rush game at all. You can see Jacobs. Definitely
- 36:25a missing piece in that. I really wanted to know
- 36:28about. Just watching back the tape. Christian
- 36:31Watson. The secondary played great. Josh Mattel
- 36:34has had a few linebacker hip moves that we could
- 36:37talk about at a different time. Another 45. Yeah.
- 36:41But also a little concerning, though, most of
- 36:45those big plays are Theo Jackson. He was a victim.
- 36:49The big long run right away with Watson. He should
- 36:52have lit him up or picked it off. He took a weird
- 36:55back angle from it. And we always give Christian
- 36:58Watson crap, but he played like a 1A receiver.
- 37:00Yeah, he was ready to play this game. 100%. And
- 37:03the rest of the game, Love looked very lost.
- 37:06They didn't really like the playoff calling,
- 37:08especially with the Vikings brought pressure
- 37:09in the second half. They kept running super long
- 37:1210, 12 -yard routes all the time. A lot of play
- 37:16action. You saw in the video of the highlights
- 37:17of the game. Run another play action. I was like,
- 37:20why are you running big, long, developing plays?
- 37:23when the Vikings are just sending the house.
- 37:26Literally, it's straight in your face. What did
- 37:29you put in the chat? 78 %? Yeah, it was 78 %
- 37:33blitz rate. Yes. And then out of that, they had
- 37:3652 .8%. Percentage of those resulted in pressure
- 37:42on Love. That's tough, man. Literally half the
- 37:45game. Yeah, he's running for his life. Yeah,
- 37:47that's tough. Obviously, it's going to be a little
- 37:50bit tough next week. One other one. I'll give
- 37:53some love to the fight. I mean, we talked about,
- 37:56like, Turner. I like this. Brian Cashman. I'll
- 38:00play awesome. Amazing. Like, just absolutely
- 38:03owning those double A gap blitzes. 100%. Big
- 38:07leg will. As usual. Front seven played awesome.
- 38:11Secondary, Rogers dropped one. That's all right.
- 38:14That would have closed up. We'll let them have
- 38:16it. We'll let them have it. They'll play more
- 38:19opportunities. So this is the point in the episode
- 38:21where we're going to do a little quick blurb.
- 38:22Do we still do that? Did we have another Kevin's
- 38:25Corner? We do have another Kevin's Corner. Let's
- 38:27end with that. That's good. That's good. Kev
- 38:31was curious. Kev's Corner. We should have some
- 38:34sort of noise for that. That was in Netflix,
- 38:37wasn't it? I don't know why I just did that.
- 38:41He is curious if... When you ask that question,
- 38:44are you talking every single play? Only things
- 38:47that are called. Only things that are called.
- 38:50To be able to challenge every single call. There's
- 38:54a hole in every call. There's a PI on every single
- 38:57play. Correct. So Kev wants... Basically, for
- 39:04you MLB fans out there, he wants to know if NFL
- 39:07will go to that route where you can challenge
- 39:09every call and everything. To Kev's point, there's
- 39:13holding on every play. Can you challenge that?
- 39:16But to that same point, I think that's the problem,
- 39:18that there's holding on every play. So it's like,
- 39:20where's the line drawn? Clarifying question from
- 39:24Kev. That's what I'm saying. I'm not saying the
- 39:31coach can challenge every single player. It's
- 39:34not going to work. No, that's a really great
- 39:38question, and there's a history lesson to this.
- 39:41A few years ago, the NFL had the rules committee
- 39:47implemented the ability to challenge pass interference.
- 39:51If there was a pass interference call, then a
- 39:55team had the ability to challenge that. Correct.
- 40:00Now, every single pass interference call that
- 40:04was challenged was upheld. That it was pass interference.
- 40:10And the biggest thing was that they couldn't
- 40:12confirm intent. Like what they were actually...
- 40:16But, I mean, the goal or the intention and the
- 40:21spirit of the rule or the ability to challenge
- 40:24it was a result of... It was Saints -Rams. NFC
- 40:30Championship game. On a corner. Yeah, and that
- 40:32wide receiver just got blown up. Blown up so
- 40:36hard. And the DPI didn't get called there in
- 40:40any capacity. They got so screwed on that. Way
- 40:43worse than the Kyle Rudolph potential push -off
- 40:45in the back corner. Man, they got screwed on
- 40:49that. That was so bad. Sorry. One and all. They
- 40:54got a Super Bowl. I think that's a great point.
- 41:16For those that cannot hear, he said the play
- 41:19of the roughing the passer call where the guy
- 41:21puts his hands out and got called for roughing
- 41:23the passer. Looks like he kept his weight off
- 41:25him. You know, you challenge that to say what
- 41:27else you can do. What were you going to say?
- 41:29No, it's just like, yeah, like with the Major
- 41:32League Baseball ABS system, it's very linear.
- 41:35They've got a, yeah. Whereas this is just like,
- 41:39well, we think they weren't. It's all judgment
- 41:40call. Even on a replay, it's another judgment
- 41:42call. You're just taking another look. And then
- 41:43we have these conversations over, well, was that
- 41:46really an illegal contact or not that we have
- 41:50right here? So how's an official supposed to
- 41:52make that call in the moment? Right. I don't
- 41:54know. I don't know. Well, we've got to wrap this
- 41:57episode, fellas. Don't forget to check out Week
- 41:592's Tent Talk and Week 2's Preview and Picks.
