Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: There's a new space race kicking off, and I am
- 0:02Speaker 1: absolutely here for it. Is there anything more thrilling than
- 0:06Speaker 1: watching two countries battle at hammer and tong to achieve
- 0:09Speaker 1: something that we all dreamed and thought impossible until it happens,
- 0:13Speaker 1: like going to the Moon, provided of course you think
- 0:16Speaker 1: we actually went there. It's like the Science Olympics crossed
- 0:21Speaker 1: with the geopolitical Hunger Games. This is what makes it
- 0:24Speaker 1: so fascinating. This time, it's a bit like last time,
- 0:27Speaker 1: but with the US on one team China Russia working
- 0:29Speaker 1: together on the other. And they want to install these
- 0:33Speaker 1: nuclear reactors on the surface of the Moon some four
- 0:36Speaker 1: hundred thousand kilometers away the US. Once it done by
- 0:40Speaker 1: twenty thirty China, Russia they are aiming for your early
- 0:43Speaker 1: twenty thirties, So it's a real race. The scientists are
- 0:47Speaker 1: hoping everybody will come together and combai and cooperate like
- 0:50Speaker 1: they do with the International Space Station once they're up there.
- 0:53Speaker 1: But of course the politicians have other plans, don't they.
- 0:57Speaker 1: This is about nationalism, it's about defense and territory. Everyone
- 1:03Speaker 1: wants to be the first because there are actually currently
- 1:06Speaker 1: no laws or treaties for colonizing the Moon. It's basically
- 1:10Speaker 1: first come, first served, and they reckon. Whoever builds the
- 1:13Speaker 1: first reactor for electricity can basically bags that area and
- 1:19Speaker 1: build their base close by. He who gets their first winds. Basically,
- 1:24Speaker 1: the Moon, as you know, quite important to us here
- 1:28Speaker 1: on Earth, isn't it. The seasons, the crops, the oceans,
- 1:32Speaker 1: Our entire lives are tied to this thing that hangs
- 1:34Speaker 1: in the sky. But if you look at it closely,
- 1:37Speaker 1: it's actually already covered in giant craters so big you
- 1:41Speaker 1: can see them from Earth. So even if these guys
- 1:44Speaker 1: do blow something up, what's one more crater? You know?
- 1:48Speaker 1: I'm basically frothing at the chomping at the bit here
- 1:51Speaker 1: to see the New Age space race get underway. The
- 1:55Speaker 1: most interesting question, I think is what happens if it's
- 1:57Speaker 1: not a country that gets there first but one of
- 2:00Speaker 1: those weird oh billionaires and their space toys. For more
