- 2:52Speaker 1: to the ball game and the law Morns lead by
- 2:54Speaker 1: twenty three. Final scorer here this evening in bad Ruge,
- 2:57Speaker 1: the Texas Lawhorns dismantled the LSU Tigers eighty nine to
- 3:01Speaker 1: fifty eight. The Longhorns blow it open in the second
- 3:04Speaker 1: half and Texas now fifteen and seven or four and
- 3:07Speaker 1: five a sec play. LSU drops the twelve and nine.
- 3:10Speaker 1: They're one and seven. In Doctorin's flood from Ree Theda
- 3:12Speaker 1: at College Station, it's the Texas Longhorns against the Texas
- 3:15Speaker 1: A and m Aggies the Cotton Holdings lone Stars showdown
- 3:19Speaker 1: rivalry series long Warts have the indown the Shay Holly
- 3:22Speaker 1: left corner out to Jordan Lee a three pointer good
- 3:24Speaker 1: for league. Six seconds remaining in the quarter. Here's Harmon
- 3:28Speaker 1: right side, three seconds two jumper up good and that'll
- 3:31Speaker 1: do it for the first quarter. Rory Harmon was six
- 3:33Speaker 1: in the quarter, got a screen, knock down the jumper
- 3:36Speaker 1: and that'll do it, and it'll put Texas back up ten.
- 3:39Speaker 1: At the end of one long Words will in battle
- 3:41Speaker 1: the baseline Harmon to trigger the past. Rory looking sends
- 3:45Speaker 1: across the floor. Holly measures up a three, missed it
- 3:48Speaker 1: off the rim Connor roade rebound, drives in and scores
- 3:51Speaker 1: off the glat to Booker, dine on the shot lite
- 3:54Speaker 1: book her to the right side. Win In Todd turn
- 3:56Speaker 1: to the dribble penetrate out to Booker, show fire up
- 3:59Speaker 1: for three. It's good Anison. Booker now with fifteen and
- 4:03Speaker 1: the long warts lead it. Booker got the readout anyway,
- 4:06Speaker 1: Saul's well it ends well off to Harmon, drives into
- 4:09Speaker 1: the paint around traffic, high off the glass and it's
- 4:11Speaker 1: good with a fowl that's fit and Torory Harmon driving in,
- 4:15Speaker 1: got the bucket end one into the front court, Harmon
- 4:18Speaker 1: into the left corner. Shaye Hotley wants another three. That's
- 4:20Speaker 1: another three. Shaye knocks it down. She has twelve texas
- 4:26Speaker 1: up twenty sixty to forty backing out the dribble mouse
- 4:30Speaker 1: since an entry pass and it's deflected picked off. Harmon
- 4:33Speaker 1: tipped it to book her back to Harmon. Here's Rory
- 4:36Speaker 1: driving through traffic all the way to the hoof. The
- 4:38Speaker 1: runner goes with a left hand. Vick Schaeffer's gonna tell
- 4:42Speaker 1: Rihanna Preston don't need to shoot long Hort's gonna come

- 4:56Speaker 1: to twenty two and two eight and one at SEC
- 4:58Speaker 1: play good congingent Logart fans standing in applauding final score
- 5:03Speaker 1: the Texas Longard seventy, the Texas a Anda Bakis fifty.
- 5:10Speaker 4: What a weekend for Texas basketball, What a weekend for
- 5:15Speaker 4: basketball in general. Welcome to Monday's edition of The Craigway Show.
- 5:20Speaker 4: I'm Cameron Parker filling in for Craig Way on this
- 5:22Speaker 4: Monday afternoon. Craig recovering under the weather as a lot
- 5:26Speaker 4: of people are right now. The flu is kind of
- 5:29Speaker 4: taking out a lot of people in the University of
- 5:31Speaker 4: Texas campus right now. Allergies seed all that good stuff.
- 5:35Speaker 4: So Craig not filling up the part of the day,
- 5:37Speaker 4: getting a well deserved rest day. Hopefully we'll have him
- 5:40Speaker 4: back in tomorrow or Wednesday, But a lot to unpack.
- 5:45Speaker 4: On today's show, mentioned the big blowout victory for Texas
- 5:49Speaker 4: basketball in eighty nine to fifty eighth victory in Baton
- 5:53Speaker 4: Rouge at the Pete Mayrevich Assembly Center, and then Texas
- 5:57Speaker 4: women's basketball getting a victory in Call College Station for
- 6:00Speaker 4: the first time as conference or rather as the first
- 6:04Speaker 4: time as SEC Conference opponents seventy to fifty has Fix
- 6:09Speaker 4: Schaeffer squad has now won six straight games and now
- 6:12Speaker 4: up to number four in the AP Top twenty five rankings.
- 6:17Speaker 4: We'll hear from Rodney Terry Fix, Schaeffer, Devon Pryor, Kiton Sderick,
- 6:22Speaker 4: and Roy Harmon throughout today's show. A lot of sound
- 6:25Speaker 4: to get to. As always, would love for you to
- 6:27Speaker 4: join us on our program. We had the text line available.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Texta word Texas eight one to five three zero followed
- 6:33Speaker 4: by your message. Of course, we are also live as always,
- 6:36Speaker 4: streaming on the free iHeartRadio app and on YouTube, Facebook
- 6:41Speaker 4: and Twitter, so make sure you subscribe, leave some comments.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Want to get you in on the show. Want to
- 6:46Speaker 4: hear your thoughts on Texas basketball this weekend, but also
- 6:50Speaker 4: the NBA trades. I mean, wow, Luka Doncics from Dallas
- 6:55Speaker 4: Mavericks one of the best players in the world. I
- 6:59Speaker 4: would argue number two, number three I think will go
- 7:03Speaker 4: down as one of the all time greats. Has led
- 7:05Speaker 4: the Mavericks to an NBA Finals to two Western Conference
- 7:08Speaker 4: Finals appearances. He's twenty six years old and now he's
- 7:11Speaker 4: a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. In a er
- 7:15Speaker 4: shattering trade on Saturday night, I'd actually had passed out.
- 7:21Speaker 4: We had a arrived back from Baton Rouge about I
- 7:24Speaker 4: don't know, about nine ten PM. Went home, went to bed,
- 7:28Speaker 4: and I woke up in the morning and I had texts,
- 7:30Speaker 4: I had missed calls from people who I do not
- 7:34Speaker 4: talk to that much, asking what in the world is
- 7:38Speaker 4: going on? And I think Dallas Maverick fans and even
- 7:41Speaker 4: some NBA fans and even some front office teams players
- 7:46Speaker 4: trying to figure out what in the world happened. But
- 7:49Speaker 4: Luka Doncics the Dallas Mavericks now in the Los Angeles Lakers.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Anthony Davis is a member of the Dallas Mavericks. And
- 7:56Speaker 4: then last night, or actually it may have been earlier
- 7:59Speaker 4: this morning, it was last night dearon Fox from the
- 8:03Speaker 4: San Antonio Spurs from the Sacramento Kings, now with the
- 8:06Speaker 4: San Antonio Spurs. As the former Texan by the way,
- 8:10Speaker 4: who played his college basketball at Kentucky, drafted by the Kings,
- 8:16Speaker 4: has been traded to the San Antonio Spurs, and now
- 8:19Speaker 4: we'll link up with Victor Webin Yama Zach Lavigne from
- 8:23Speaker 4: Chicago Bulls now headed to Sacramento. But the Spurs big winners,
- 8:29Speaker 4: as we had heard last week that they were going
- 8:31Speaker 4: to try and land Dearon Fox. Dearon Fox had told
- 8:34Speaker 4: the Kings organization that he did not want to re
- 8:36Speaker 4: sign with Sacramento. The Spurs were the favorites, of course,
- 8:40Speaker 4: a lot of other teams involved, but able to go
- 8:42Speaker 4: ahead and pull out the trade for the point guard
- 8:46Speaker 4: known as SWIPA. It's a fantastic move, I think for
- 8:51Speaker 4: the San Antonio Spurs. Did not give up that much
- 8:56Speaker 4: in this trade, and now you get to go ahead
- 8:58Speaker 4: and give web and Yama very fast and good scoring
- 9:02Speaker 4: point guard. And the big key also is the Spurs
- 9:05Speaker 4: don't really give up any of their their young asset
- 9:08Speaker 4: in this move. The kep Stefan Castle, the rookie from Yukon,
- 9:12Speaker 4: kept Jeremy Sohan, kept Kelvin Johnson, and kept Dylan Fasell
- 9:16Speaker 4: and obviously holding on to Chris paul In Harrison Barnes.
- 9:20Speaker 4: So it's a move that won't make the Spurs NBA
- 9:24Speaker 4: final contenders this season, but going forward in the future
- 9:29Speaker 4: they can lock Fox down to a long term contract.
- 9:32Speaker 4: I think, well, we're gonna we're gonna visit with Carl
- 9:34Speaker 4: shoning up next to actually get his thoughts on all
- 9:37Speaker 4: the NBA moves as well. Eric Henry from Horns two
- 9:40Speaker 4: four to seven will stop by the four o'clock hour,
- 9:42Speaker 4: get his thoughts on a spring workouts for the Texas Longhorns.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Arch Manning on the forty Acres doing a lot of
- 9:48Speaker 4: press tours lately announced his Red Bull nil deal. I
- 9:52Speaker 4: think worth what or now he's worth up the six
- 9:54Speaker 4: million dollars, I think in terms of nil money, and
- 9:57Speaker 4: obviously we'll accumulate a lot more than that. Get his
- 10:00Speaker 4: thoughts on that Texas basketball as well, and then maybe
- 10:04Speaker 4: some Super Bowl quick previews. It is Super Bowl Week
- 10:08Speaker 4: and maybe the lucadantistreet is kind of taken away from
- 10:11Speaker 4: that just a little bit, but it's going to gear
- 10:14Speaker 4: up for Sunday's game as the Kansas City Chiefs trying
- 10:16Speaker 4: to win three straight in a row and take out
- 10:20Speaker 4: the Philadelphia Eagles. All that to get to here on
- 10:23Speaker 4: today's show, of course, Inconceivable, we're just getting started on
- 10:26Speaker 4: this Monday afternoon. You're on thirteen hundred the Zone.
- 10:31Speaker 5: It's the Craig Way Show with the voice of the
- 10:34Speaker 5: Texas Longhorns in Hall of Fame broadcaster Craig Way.
- 10:40Speaker 4: We're just getting rolling here on this Monday afternoon in Austin, Texas.
- 10:44Speaker 4: A beautiful day outside currently in the seventies. I believe
- 10:49Speaker 4: it's actually a record high for Austin on this date,
- 10:54Speaker 4: eighty degrees right now. But hey, sun is out, gorgeous date.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Hope you are enjoying your Monday. Cameron Parker filling in
- 11:00Speaker 4: for Craig Way here on today's show, and as promised,
- 11:03Speaker 4: going to welcome in Carl showing the Austin Spurs broadcaster.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Who's gonna help us try try and make sense of
- 11:11Speaker 4: the the Luka Doncis trade. I know, of course your
- 11:15Speaker 4: affiliation with the Spurs, Carl, but we have to talk
- 11:19Speaker 4: about this Luca trade. And when a lot of trades
- 11:21Speaker 4: like this happen, I think a lot of blame is
- 11:23Speaker 4: probably cast on the player or the organization or the
- 11:26Speaker 4: GM Rather, I have to think this has to go
- 11:30Speaker 4: all the way up top to the owner's Carl, you know,
- 11:35Speaker 4: before we.
- 11:35Speaker 6: Start a signing blame. Maybe we talked about the owners.
- 11:37Speaker 7: I'm just gonna put it out there that if iHeartMedia
- 11:40Speaker 7: were to give me a three hundred and fifty million
- 11:42Speaker 7: dollar contract, I would gain fifteen pounds by the time
- 11:45Speaker 7: the ink dried, right, Like, you lose a little bit
- 11:48Speaker 7: of motivation when you have that kind of money. I
- 11:51Speaker 7: get the feeling, and you know, if we're trying to
- 11:54Speaker 7: maybe figure it out, it seems to me that behind
- 11:58Speaker 7: closed doors, the Mavericks weren't necessarily interested in paying somebody
- 12:04Speaker 7: seventy million a year who quite frankly, showed up to
- 12:08Speaker 7: the most seasons of his career a little.
- 12:11Speaker 6: Bit out of shape.
- 12:11Speaker 7: He's had a couple good in shape seasons, but according
- 12:14Speaker 7: to reports, he came in this season at two sixty
- 12:17Speaker 7: and he's playing weight ideally is around two forty.
- 12:21Speaker 6: You already know that Luka Doncic can be a.
- 12:23Speaker 7: Little bit of a defensive liability at times, despite averaging
- 12:26Speaker 7: two steals a game, And you know, I think, quite frankly,
- 12:29Speaker 7: that's where you wonder, with this new CBA being these
- 12:34Speaker 7: explosive numbers and one player taking up so much of
- 12:38Speaker 7: the salary cap, is that really where this conversation started,
- 12:42Speaker 7: Do we trust Luka to be healthy when he's getting
- 12:46Speaker 7: paid seventy plus.
- 12:47Speaker 6: Million a year, whatever that number might have looked at.
- 12:50Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 4: The argument for Niko Harrison is that you mentioned out
- 12:53Speaker 4: of shape part, the not be able to stay healthy,
- 12:56Speaker 4: which likely has to do with his weight and what
- 12:59Speaker 4: he comes in at. Not been healthy at all this season,
- 13:02Speaker 4: probably will not be able to play for the Lakers
- 13:03Speaker 4: still after the All Star break, if if I were
- 13:07Speaker 4: to guess. But on the other side, Carl even while
- 13:11Speaker 4: he has not been in great shape and while he's
- 13:13Speaker 4: not been healthy, he's still taking Dallas to the NBA Finals.
- 13:16Speaker 4: And I feel like, no matter what, no matter who
- 13:19Speaker 4: has Luka Doncs on your team, you're a contender, I
- 13:22Speaker 4: would say, for the conference finals, and all it takes
- 13:26Speaker 4: is an injury or you know, like last season, you
- 13:28Speaker 4: get a good matchup against the te Wolves and you
- 13:30Speaker 4: find yourself in the NBA Finals. Now, of course the
- 13:33Speaker 4: Celtics right away with that series, but also Celtics had
- 13:36Speaker 4: maybe one of the best offenses in NBA history, So
- 13:40Speaker 4: I understand the concerns with this weight. And you know,
- 13:42Speaker 4: maybe Luca turns in the droll and beiid where you're
- 13:45Speaker 4: looking at it in six years and he still hasn't
- 13:47Speaker 4: done anything. But at the same time, I feel like
- 13:48Speaker 4: you're trading away a player who gives you a chance
- 13:51Speaker 4: to win. And I don't know if Anthony Davis will
- 13:54Speaker 4: solve that.
- 13:56Speaker 7: You're spot on in a lot of areas. You know,
- 13:59Speaker 7: starting off with, he is probably going to always be
- 14:03Speaker 7: very rarely not the best player in a playoff series,
- 14:07Speaker 7: and if you have the best player in a playoff series,
- 14:09Speaker 7: you have a good chance to win that series. Obviously,
- 14:13Speaker 7: there's gonna be times where you run into just a
- 14:15Speaker 7: better team.
- 14:15Speaker 6: But going back to when Luca.
- 14:18Speaker 7: Knocked off Phoenix in the playoffs a couple of years ago,
- 14:21Speaker 7: that was a big upset, but it really wasn't too
- 14:24Speaker 7: shocking to me because Luca was the best player on
- 14:27Speaker 7: either team and he's somebody who can obviously stuff the
- 14:31Speaker 7: box score. But you know, really, I do think that
- 14:35Speaker 7: there must have been some kind of behind the scenes
- 14:38Speaker 7: things that we can't see that led.
- 14:41Speaker 6: To these conversations starting.
- 14:43Speaker 7: And then, you know, as big of a deal as
- 14:45Speaker 7: everybody wants to make of it being maybe a bad trade,
- 14:50Speaker 7: I do think that if you're going to move Luka
- 14:52Speaker 7: Doncic getting somebody who is an All NBA player, defensive
- 14:56Speaker 7: anchors and you know, one of the best defenders in
- 14:59Speaker 7: the LEA League and Anthony Davis.
- 15:01Speaker 6: It's a good move.
- 15:02Speaker 7: They kind of have a couple of players like that,
- 15:04Speaker 7: but Derek Lively's out for a few months, you know,
- 15:07Speaker 7: and really I think they looked at this team that
- 15:11Speaker 7: they see Luca has not played since Christmas, and they've
- 15:15Speaker 7: gotten a chance to, you know, really sit back and
- 15:17Speaker 7: evaluate what would we want if we wanted to move
- 15:20Speaker 7: on from Luca and not give him the probably would
- 15:23Speaker 7: be record breaking supermacs that he was going to come
- 15:27Speaker 7: into this summer.
- 15:28Speaker 6: So it was decision time, and they.
- 15:31Speaker 7: Decided to maybe get out of the Luka Dotca business.
- 15:34Speaker 7: And it's the first real sign of Mark Cuban not
- 15:37Speaker 7: owning the Mavericks.
- 15:39Speaker 4: It's a huge point because I do not think Mark
- 15:41Speaker 4: Cuban would have made this decision, and I can't imagine
- 15:44Speaker 4: he must be inconsolable right now seeing his boy Luca
- 15:48Speaker 4: moved to Los Angeles. Okay, impact for this season obviously
- 15:51Speaker 4: going forward, the Lakers, somehow, who ended up trading for Will,
- 15:56Speaker 4: traded for Kareem Abdul Jabbar got Paul Gasol for nothing
- 16:01Speaker 4: in a similar type deal, get Anthony Davis in a
- 16:04Speaker 4: huge trade, done it again. Now they get Luca Dontas.
- 16:07Speaker 4: So the Lakers are going to be relevant again for
- 16:08Speaker 4: the next ten years.
- 16:09Speaker 7: Now.
- 16:10Speaker 4: For this season, though, you know, they still probably have
- 16:13Speaker 4: one move. They needed a big man, obviously with Ad
- 16:16Speaker 4: gone the Dallas and now Dallas, who I thought had
- 16:19Speaker 4: had a great roster around Luca still have a decent
- 16:23Speaker 4: roster with Kyrie and Ad and Klay Thompson. Of course,
- 16:27Speaker 4: you mentioned the injuries obviously to the lively. I love Gafford,
- 16:31Speaker 4: but how does this impact the Western Conference? You think
- 16:33Speaker 4: for this season?
- 16:36Speaker 6: It makes things certainly more interesting.
- 16:40Speaker 7: You obviously have a renewed interest in the Lakers, who
- 16:43Speaker 7: had an up and down season. They had a good start,
- 16:45Speaker 7: they had a rough middle, and recently they've been playing
- 16:47Speaker 7: well enough to have them in the five seed in
- 16:49Speaker 7: the Western Conference.
- 16:51Speaker 6: But I think.
- 16:52Speaker 7: Everybody now wants to see how does Luca respond to
- 16:56Speaker 7: playing with Lebron Who's going to be the big dog there.
- 16:59Speaker 7: And you know, almost to my point going back to
- 17:03Speaker 7: you know, Luka Doncic being in shape, if you were
- 17:06Speaker 7: going to send him somewhere.
- 17:08Speaker 6: You probably sent him.
- 17:09Speaker 7: To the wrong place because Lebron James is going to
- 17:12Speaker 7: get him in shape.
- 17:13Speaker 6: La is beautiful.
- 17:14Speaker 7: You want to look good on the beach, you know,
- 17:17Speaker 7: but really you send him to somebody who can be
- 17:20Speaker 7: his mentor in perhaps his biggest weakness, which is being
- 17:23Speaker 7: a you know, professional athlete, athletic body and taking care
- 17:27Speaker 7: of what goes into your body. Obviously, one of the
- 17:29Speaker 7: things that's going a little viral is resurfacing of Michael
- 17:32Speaker 7: Finley taking the champion Western Conference championship beer away from
- 17:37Speaker 7: Luka Doncic when they won the West. You know, he
- 17:40Speaker 7: was going to enjoy a little beer, and you know,
- 17:42Speaker 7: I think that that's you know, goes back to conversations
- 17:44Speaker 7: we have. Michael Finley might not be able to tell
- 17:47Speaker 7: Luca he can't have a beer after a game, but
- 17:49Speaker 7: Lebron James certainly can.
- 17:51Speaker 6: And I think that's something that you.
- 17:54Speaker 7: Know, he would take a little bit more seriously because
- 17:57Speaker 7: it's obviously both a peer and a mentor figure.
- 18:00Speaker 6: So you know, you really want to see how that happens.
- 18:02Speaker 7: We still have the rest of this week for the
- 18:04Speaker 7: trade deadline, so I think both teams are going to
- 18:07Speaker 7: look to try and improve their rosters.
- 18:09Speaker 6: But the West is always a shuffle.
- 18:12Speaker 7: Once you get past the four seed Denver, you wouldn't
- 18:16Speaker 7: be surprised to see the Lakers maybe go into a
- 18:18Speaker 7: little bit of a spiral while they.
- 18:19Speaker 6: Figured things out.
- 18:21Speaker 7: Maybe you see a little bit of boost from the
- 18:22Speaker 7: Mavericks being able to just immediately put in Anthony Davis,
- 18:26Speaker 7: because that was the other thing. Luca might not play.
- 18:29Speaker 7: I think you speculate until after the All Star break.
- 18:32Speaker 7: It may be part of the conditioning issue is that
- 18:34Speaker 7: he's not recovering well either. That's something that we don't
- 18:37Speaker 7: really know behind the scenes. So whenever Luca comes back,
- 18:40Speaker 7: he'll come back. But the Mavericks, I think they get
- 18:42Speaker 7: a healthy All Star caliber player that will be ready
- 18:45Speaker 7: to make an immediate contribution and improve them defensively. So
- 18:49Speaker 7: I could see the Mavericks maybe starting to build up,
- 18:53Speaker 7: But yesterday they just looked like they were sleepwalking out there.
- 18:55Speaker 7: They were dis draught. They were just as shock because everybody,
- 18:58Speaker 7: obviously the human elmet goes in it. But I do
- 19:01Speaker 7: think the Mavericks are professionals and they'll be able to
- 19:04Speaker 7: get it together and eventually, once Ad gets down there
- 19:07Speaker 7: and they figure a few things out, they could be
- 19:10Speaker 7: just as good as anybody in the Western Conference. And
- 19:13Speaker 7: when you look at Nicole Jokics being the guy you
- 19:16Speaker 7: have to go through in the Western Conference, I think
- 19:18Speaker 7: Anthony Davis maybe does slightly help more than Luka Doncic
- 19:22Speaker 7: in that situation because you get that matchup one on one.
- 19:26Speaker 7: Jokic still wins the matchup, but it's not as big
- 19:29Speaker 7: of a landslide, you know as maybe just having a
- 19:33Speaker 7: defensive list player like Luca out there.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Yeah, obviously Jason Kidd has some sort of relationship with Ad.
- 19:39Speaker 4: He was on the Lakers staff when they won that
- 19:42Speaker 4: Bubble NBA Championship. Agree right right with you that I
- 19:45Speaker 4: think the Mavericks can plug Ady in and that lose
- 19:48Speaker 4: too much and the Lakers, we'll see. I don't think
- 19:50Speaker 4: it's a win now season for them obviously with gaining Luca.
- 19:53Speaker 4: But but to your point, the one team you don't
- 19:55Speaker 4: want to send them to is Los Angeles because, hey,
- 19:58Speaker 4: Lebron James forty years old, who who doesn't look like
- 20:01Speaker 4: he's forty when he plays NBA games. I mean, he
- 20:03Speaker 4: puts a million dollars into his body. I think every
- 20:06Speaker 4: year in terms of trying to keep up to health,
- 20:08Speaker 4: and hey, you know, Lebron might say, Luca here here,
- 20:11Speaker 4: so that pilsner here, here's a nice glass of red wine.
- 20:14Speaker 9: You know, yeah, exactly, you know, And I would be
- 20:19Speaker 9: curious to just find out like what kind of things
- 20:22Speaker 9: immediately Lebron's go and how Lebron's going to talk to him,
- 20:25Speaker 9: because the stories that I've read is the Lebron sort
- 20:30Speaker 9: of like shoe, like how there's a Jordan shoe.
- 20:33Speaker 7: Lebron wanted Luca to be the first athlete under his brand,
- 20:36Speaker 7: and that's obviously means there's a lot of mutual respect
- 20:39Speaker 7: between the two of them, and I think that that
- 20:41Speaker 7: could just take his game to new levels. You know,
- 20:44Speaker 7: they learn from each other, but really it's an accountability
- 20:48Speaker 7: there too, because Lebron's not going to, at forty years old,
- 20:51Speaker 7: allow Luca to take plays off defensively.
- 20:53Speaker 6: He's going to get in his ear defensively. So just
- 20:55Speaker 6: to see how Luca's going to improve with Lebron, that's
- 20:58Speaker 6: going to be an interesting you know.
- 21:01Speaker 7: I guess year perhaps, but Luca, don't forget he's going
- 21:05Speaker 7: to be an unrestricted free agent in twenty twenty six.
- 21:07Speaker 7: He no longer has a Supermax that he can sign
- 21:10Speaker 7: because he was traded. That's part of the new CBA
- 21:13Speaker 7: is you don't get that unless you're traded during your
- 21:16Speaker 7: rookie contract. So yeah, that max is no longer on
- 21:21Speaker 7: the table, Luca can enter free agency, and then this
- 21:23Speaker 7: blows up in the Lakers space because maybe Lebron also.
- 21:27Speaker 6: Leaves in free agency or he just outright retires.
- 21:30Speaker 7: You lose Luca, you lose your future first round pick
- 21:33Speaker 7: that you gave up that went along with Anthony Davis
- 21:36Speaker 7: to Dallas, and next thing you know, the Lakers are
- 21:38Speaker 7: basically trying to see who's going to be in free
- 21:40Speaker 7: agency if they do lose donchit.
- 21:43Speaker 6: So there is a.
- 21:44Speaker 7: Little bit of a potential for this to blow up
- 21:47Speaker 7: in the Maverick space again, if Luca were to say,
- 21:50Speaker 7: go to San Antonio or another Western Conference contender. Who's
- 21:54Speaker 7: preparing for this big free agency class of twenty twenty six,
- 21:58Speaker 7: which will include.
- 22:00Speaker 6: Aaron Fox, Kevin Durant a few other players.
- 22:03Speaker 7: So there's a few teams that are getting ready for
- 22:05Speaker 7: the summer of twenty twenty six.
- 22:08Speaker 6: So you know, I can't remember exactly where I was
- 22:10Speaker 6: going with all of this what your question was.
- 22:12Speaker 7: But I watched two hours of First Take this morning,
- 22:15Speaker 7: and all they talked about was this Donchez trade. So
- 22:18Speaker 7: there's so many angles that this, you know, can really
- 22:21Speaker 7: go two hours.
- 22:23Speaker 4: That's a lot. I don't know if I can handle
- 22:24Speaker 4: too the entire show. One of the players you mentioned
- 22:28Speaker 4: will be a free agency of free agent in twenty
- 22:30Speaker 4: twenty sixty Earned Fox, who was just traded from Sacramento
- 22:33Speaker 4: to San Antonio. It was speculated that Fox wanted to
- 22:36Speaker 4: go to Essay and a workshout for the Spurs, And
- 22:39Speaker 4: I think the big part of it, carl Is san
- 22:41Speaker 4: Antonio does not give up Dylan Fasel, do not give
- 22:43Speaker 4: up Stefan Castle, did not give up Kilden Johnson. So
- 22:47Speaker 4: they keep their young core, and they add in a
- 22:49Speaker 4: true point guard for mister Webbin Yama.
- 22:52Speaker 6: And all of their best picks.
- 22:54Speaker 7: Really, I think that if you were to say, hey,
- 22:57Speaker 7: you know, take your choice of picks andanth them one
- 23:00Speaker 7: through ten, the majority of those picks would probably fall
- 23:03Speaker 7: into the latter half of that ten. So I do
- 23:07Speaker 7: think that there's something to be said about just overall,
- 23:09Speaker 7: how the Spurs didn't give up any core players that
- 23:12Speaker 7: were playing heavy rotation minutes. Trey Jones was in the rotation,
- 23:16Speaker 7: but obviously in a world where Deer and Fox and
- 23:19Speaker 7: Chris Pauler the point guards ahead of him, you know,
- 23:22Speaker 7: if they're healthy, then Trey's probably not going to play
- 23:25Speaker 7: all that much. Zach Collins was a little bit of
- 23:29Speaker 7: big man depth, but overall he wasn't really in the rotation.
- 23:34Speaker 7: So the Spurs do need to address some big man help.
- 23:37Speaker 7: But they had an all star you've been talking. You
- 23:40Speaker 7: probably if you heard Spurs fans on Twitter talk about it,
- 23:43Speaker 7: they wanted a point guard. There's a lot of pressure
- 23:46Speaker 7: from Spurs fans that I'm sure the Spurs front office.
- 23:48Speaker 6: You know, didn't think. In fact, we just got the
- 23:51Speaker 6: official announcement that the Spurs.
- 23:52Speaker 7: Just tweeted out that the deal has gone through, So officially,
- 23:56Speaker 7: now Daron Fox is a Spur and he's his problem.
- 24:00Speaker 6: He's twenty seven.
- 24:01Speaker 7: He's averaged twenty points per game over the last five
- 24:04Speaker 7: years this decade. I think that overall, you're talking about
- 24:10Speaker 7: the best pick and roll ball handler or top three
- 24:12Speaker 7: pick and roll ball handler in the league and top
- 24:15Speaker 7: three role man in Wimby. I think statistically that's supported too.
- 24:20Speaker 7: I want to say in terms of like points per
- 24:22Speaker 7: pick and roll ball handling, dearon Fox's number six, but
- 24:27Speaker 7: all overall efficiency has him in the top three.
- 24:29Speaker 6: Same with Wimby, I think.
- 24:30Speaker 7: Is the most points on a roll at two. So
- 24:34Speaker 7: the Spurs have two guys that really could grow together
- 24:38Speaker 7: over the next few years. And Daron Fox has a
- 24:42Speaker 7: injury from training camp that has probably brought down his
- 24:46Speaker 7: three point shooting percentage a little bit. But once he
- 24:49Speaker 7: gets that taken care of him might need surgery in
- 24:52Speaker 7: the offseason and might just need an offseason of rest.
- 24:54Speaker 7: I could see him being a better three point shooter
- 24:57Speaker 7: down the line. So the Spurs really do have a
- 24:59Speaker 7: three levels score who I think compliments Winby and the
- 25:03Speaker 7: core that they didn't have to give up anything any
- 25:05Speaker 7: of very well.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Jimmy Butler will be playing for what team on Friday?
- 25:12Speaker 7: Oh, I'm going to say the two falls sky Force.
- 25:16Speaker 7: It's going to get to the point where Miami assigns
- 25:18Speaker 7: them to their G League team, which is in South Dakota.
- 25:21Speaker 6: For those of you that don't know.
- 25:24Speaker 7: I don't know what to expect from Jimmy Butler because Okay,
- 25:29Speaker 7: Memphis makes a lot of sense he's not going to
- 25:31Speaker 7: sign an extension with Memphis. You know, that gets out public.
- 25:35Speaker 7: Apparently the Warriors would like to sign him. Warriors make
- 25:38Speaker 7: a lot of sense comes out yesterday that he's not
- 25:40Speaker 7: going to be signing an extension with the Warriors or
- 25:43Speaker 7: in the summer, however it might happen, he ops out
- 25:45Speaker 7: and signs and they have his rights. So really it's
- 25:49Speaker 7: almost like he's basically saying it's the Suns or the
- 25:53Speaker 7: sky Force, because I just don't necessarily see pat Riley
- 25:57Speaker 7: allowing him to, you know, win this battle of whitson
- 26:01Speaker 7: come back to the team.
- 26:03Speaker 6: But really to go around the long.
- 26:05Speaker 7: End of it, I think he's on the Heat because
- 26:08Speaker 7: at the end of the day, he makes so much
- 26:10Speaker 7: money that the only way you can acquire Jimmy Butler
- 26:14Speaker 7: is to give up a good player and a lot
- 26:17Speaker 7: of teams in this sort of salary cap era don't
- 26:20Speaker 7: want to take a chance on a guy like that
- 26:23Speaker 7: who could just dip out in the summer unless they
- 26:26Speaker 7: have assurances.
- 26:26Speaker 6: So if it's not.
- 26:28Speaker 7: The Suns, I guess it's going to be the Heat
- 26:30Speaker 7: and we'll we'll have to see.
- 26:31Speaker 6: But that's been quite the Sagas.
- 26:33Speaker 7: So I'm really happy that we've had the Luca and
- 26:36Speaker 7: dearon Fox News to really kind of calm down the
- 26:41Speaker 7: you know, the answer that's happening there, because that's a
- 26:44Speaker 7: soap opera that's been playing out on social media.
- 26:46Speaker 6: Hasn't it?
- 26:47Speaker 4: Which Texas? The last question for you, which Texas team
- 26:50Speaker 4: would you want to be the next five years? The Rockets,
- 26:53Speaker 4: Spurs or Mavericks has to be the Spurs.
- 26:57Speaker 7: And you know, obviously I'm a little biased, but Victor
- 27:00Speaker 7: winbin Yama is the best two way player in the NBA.
- 27:05Speaker 7: He'll probably be the best player in the NBA in
- 27:08Speaker 7: the next year or two, if not, you know, by
- 27:11Speaker 7: the end of this season.
- 27:12Speaker 6: He's just increasingly improving all the time.
- 27:15Speaker 7: You have a point guard now that I think will
- 27:18Speaker 7: really be excited to be his point guard. So d
- 27:22Speaker 7: Darren Fox, he's twenty seven, so what five years from
- 27:25Speaker 7: now he'll be thirty two. You're talking about the stretch
- 27:28Speaker 7: of an All Stars prime. Victor winmbin Yama's twenty one
- 27:32Speaker 7: just scratching the surface, so you know, he'll be twenty
- 27:35Speaker 7: six by the end of that five year window.
- 27:37Speaker 6: It seems like the Spurs have set themselves up for
- 27:40Speaker 6: very very good next five years.
- 27:42Speaker 7: But I do want to give both teams credit. It's
- 27:44Speaker 7: very fun to both other team's credit. The Mavericks and
- 27:47Speaker 7: the Rockets definitely have reasons to be excited too. I'm
- 27:51Speaker 7: in Thompson's playing great, and Kyrie and ad are are fun.
- 27:55Speaker 7: Duo is just going to be a little bit of
- 27:56Speaker 7: shock over somebody who was by far and away a
- 27:59Speaker 7: great fan favorite.
- 28:00Speaker 4: And Luca even he has Carl Shoning with the Austin Spurs.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Follow him on Twitter KS media underscore thirteen or just thirteen?
- 28:08Speaker 6: Just thirteen. I didn't want any underscores in that.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Thank you so much, Carl. I appreciate the time and
- 28:13Speaker 4: we'll talk to you soon. Thanks ever any time, Carl
- 28:16Speaker 4: Shoning from the Austin Spurs, Thanks so much. That was
- 28:18Speaker 4: a fun conversation with him man in the summer July.
- 28:23Speaker 4: That question I last asked about which team would you
- 28:26Speaker 4: want to be for the rest of this decade? You know,
- 28:28Speaker 4: I think mavers would be two because you have Luka Doncic,
- 28:31Speaker 4: But anymore, that's Carl Shoning up next inconceivable. On this
- 28:39Speaker 4: Monday afternoon here on The Craigway Show, on thirteen hundred this.

- 29:19Speaker 4: coming up quickly, just in front of the twenty twenty
- 29:22Speaker 4: five football season. But of course basketball well underway, and
- 29:28Speaker 4: we'll get to some ut basketball notes in this hour
- 29:32Speaker 4: in the next but I wanted to wrap up the
- 29:34Speaker 4: conversation surrounding the NBA trade, specifically the Mavericks trade with
- 29:42Speaker 4: Luka Donchets. Is this the worst trade in NBA history?
- 29:47Speaker 4: I would not argue against it. Again, Let's go ahead
- 29:50Speaker 4: and just re examine all of the pieces year for
- 29:54Speaker 4: those who just want to double check Luka Dantic, Maxi,
- 30:01Speaker 4: kleeber Markkeith Morris to the Lakers. Mavericks receive Anthony Davis,
- 30:05Speaker 4: guard Max Christi, a twenty twenty nine first round pick,
- 30:10Speaker 4: and the Jazz, the third team in this trade, get
- 30:13Speaker 4: Lakers guard Jalen hood Schafino, a twenty twenty five second
- 30:17Speaker 4: rounder from the Clippers and a twenty twenty five second
- 30:20Speaker 4: rounder from the Mavericks. Lukadancic has led the Mavericks to
- 30:27Speaker 4: NBA Finals to Western Conference Finals appearances, but of course
- 30:32Speaker 4: has suffered through numerous injuries. Has played sparingly this season,
- 30:39Speaker 4: was expected to possibly return I think later this month,
- 30:41Speaker 4: maybe around the All Star break, and obviously had a
- 30:46Speaker 4: bit of a riff with Nico Harrison. Now, when trades happen,
- 30:52Speaker 4: usually I think there's there's three factors to consider about
- 30:57Speaker 4: why a trade.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Happened.
- 31:00Speaker 4: Usually, okay, it's the player. The player may be demanding
- 31:04Speaker 4: a trade, he wants out. We see this. We just
- 31:08Speaker 4: saw it with dearon Fox, or seen it with Jimmy Butler. Well,
- 31:11Speaker 4: you've seen it in the past as well. Carmala, Anthony,
- 31:15Speaker 4: a handful of other guys the team either the second option,
- 31:19Speaker 4: the team is either trying to add a contender or
- 31:22Speaker 4: they're going to tear down their team. You could argue,
- 31:28Speaker 4: what's the most recent example. I would think okay See
- 31:31Speaker 4: trading Paul George the Clippers in Westbrook to the Rockets, realizing, Okay,
- 31:37Speaker 4: we're not going to be able to win with this core.
- 31:39Speaker 4: Let's go ahead and rebuild and retool for the future.
- 31:42Speaker 4: They got SGA from that trade and things have worked
- 31:45Speaker 4: out pretty well. The third factor I do not think
- 31:50Speaker 4: gets enough credit is ownership. Ownership plays a bigger role
- 31:57Speaker 4: in these trades, and I think most people on understand
- 32:01Speaker 4: the James Harden trade and Oka See went to the
- 32:04Speaker 4: NBA Finals and twenty eleven lost to the Mavericks sorry
- 32:07Speaker 4: the Miami Heat. At the core of Katie Westbrook and
- 32:10Speaker 4: James Harden man, it felt like okay See was going
- 32:14Speaker 4: to dominate the twenty tenths. But what happens in that
- 32:19Speaker 4: offseason In the summer, James Harden traded to the Houston
- 32:23Speaker 4: Rockets for Kevin Martin in the bag of Chips, a
- 32:26Speaker 4: trade that not a lot of people understood, and the
- 32:30Speaker 4: result of it was Clay Bennett, the thunder owner did
- 32:34Speaker 4: not want to enter into the luxury tax. The way
- 32:37Speaker 4: to avoid that, oh that James Harden took less money.
- 32:40Speaker 4: I think it was about six million dollars. Harden said no,
- 32:43Speaker 4: I want the full contract, and Sam Presty was forced
- 32:48Speaker 4: to deal away James Harden. Now do you think James
- 32:52Speaker 4: Sam Presty, who was one of the smartest minds of basketball,
- 32:54Speaker 4: wanted to give away James Harden, the sixth man of
- 32:58Speaker 4: the Year. I don't think so. A lot of people
- 33:00Speaker 4: bashed Presty in the front office, but you know, it
- 33:04Speaker 4: came out that ownership for OKC did not want to
- 33:08Speaker 4: trade or did not want to enter into the luxury
- 33:10Speaker 4: tax and pay the fine for being over the salary cap.
- 33:14Speaker 4: And of course James hardest James Harden was traded away,
- 33:19Speaker 4: goes on to win an MVP with the Rockets, and
- 33:23Speaker 4: obviously thunder got close but never were able to get
- 33:28Speaker 4: back to the NBA Finals. So the ownership part played
- 33:31Speaker 4: a huge role in that trade. Now with the Mavericks,
- 33:35Speaker 4: of course, under new ownership, Mark Cuban sold his majority
- 33:39Speaker 4: stake in the team to Miriam Addelson and Patrick Dumont
- 33:46Speaker 4: about three point nine million dollars. Now Cuban about twenty
- 33:49Speaker 4: seven percent of the ownership. But make no mistake, this
- 33:52Speaker 4: team is owned by Addison in Dumont, who, by the way,
- 33:57Speaker 4: their fortune comes from casino gambling. Las Vegas. Now a
- 34:04Speaker 4: lot of theories out there, and you know I've heard that.
- 34:07Speaker 4: You know, there's been rumors of Adelson and Dumont and
- 34:09Speaker 4: Cuban buying up land in Dallas with the hope, with
- 34:13Speaker 4: the hope that one day gambling would be legalized in
- 34:17Speaker 4: the state of Texas and the Mavericks and the American
- 34:20Speaker 4: Airlines Center would become a big part of them. Where
- 34:22Speaker 4: we're seeing that already with a few professional sports teams
- 34:25Speaker 4: where you can go into the arena or Spall Park
- 34:28Speaker 4: or stadium in place wagers. You can do it an
- 34:31Speaker 4: Allegiance Stadium, I think for the Las Vegas Raiders. But
- 34:34Speaker 4: of course, believe the the legislative session is underway. Now
- 34:39Speaker 4: I'm gonna hoad and tell you this. I'm probably gonna
- 34:41Speaker 4: get some of this political stuff a little bit incorrect,
- 34:43Speaker 4: but I do know that a bill to legalize gambling
- 34:48Speaker 4: is not going to happen this session. It's not the
- 34:51Speaker 4: state of Texas has a surplus of money they do
- 34:54Speaker 4: not need to make gambling legalized in the way it
- 34:59Speaker 4: works with the house mostly read, it's not going to happen.
- 35:02Speaker 8: Now.
- 35:03Speaker 4: There's theories that Alison and Dumont are not happy about
- 35:07Speaker 4: this and they do not want to end up paying
- 35:10Speaker 4: Luka Doncics to three hundred and forty five million dollars
- 35:13Speaker 4: as well. So there's the one part of it, the
- 35:15Speaker 4: gambling stuff, and you know, maybe Dallas or maybe Allison
- 35:19Speaker 4: and Dumont are going to try and use that to
- 35:21Speaker 4: pressure the NBA and in said of Texas to legalize gambling.
- 35:25Speaker 4: Just just a theory. The second part, they don't want
- 35:27Speaker 4: to pay Luca the three forty five million long term.
- 35:31Speaker 4: We talked about it with Carl showing the injuries, right,
- 35:33Speaker 4: Luka Doncis has not played that much this season. He's
- 35:35Speaker 4: had injuries his entire career. He was probably injured in
- 35:38Speaker 4: the NBA Finals, And a lot of that can go
- 35:40Speaker 4: back to his conditioning. Is he in one hundred percent
- 35:43Speaker 4: tip top shape. He is not. He is not. He's
- 35:46Speaker 4: come in overweight. You know, there's reports from Dallas that
- 35:50Speaker 4: he came in at two hundred and seventy pounds this season,
- 35:52Speaker 4: and obviously if he's injured, you know, he can't exercise
- 35:56Speaker 4: to a full hundred percent. So we have that part
- 36:00Speaker 4: of it, and we're seeing it right now with Philadelphia
- 36:03Speaker 4: and Joel and b. You know, when embid at twenty
- 36:06Speaker 4: six years old, I think there's a lot of hope
- 36:07Speaker 4: that emb was going to be he was, He's an
- 36:12Speaker 4: NBA MVP. There are a lot of hope that he
- 36:14Speaker 4: would lead Philadelphia to the NBA Championship. He has not
- 36:17Speaker 4: done so. He has come in year up to year
- 36:20Speaker 4: out of shape, overweight, not conditioned, has suffered numerous injuries,
- 36:24Speaker 4: and we're seeing it this year with the Philadelphia team
- 36:26Speaker 4: who went all in on Paul George and Tyrese Maxi
- 36:29Speaker 4: and Jrol Embiid and they aren't even sniffing the playing team.
- 36:34Speaker 4: So maybe Allison and Doumott and Nico Harrison saw this
- 36:40Speaker 4: and thought, you know what, we don't want to be
- 36:41Speaker 4: tied up long term into a player who does not
- 36:43Speaker 4: take his shape seriously. Well, if he hasn't taken his
- 36:50Speaker 4: shape seriously, he has taken the Dallas Mavericks to an
- 36:54Speaker 4: NBA championship, into Western Conference Finals appearances in every season
- 36:58Speaker 4: that you have Luca Dantics. You have a chance to
- 37:00Speaker 4: win an NBA championship, you have a chance to win
- 37:02Speaker 4: the Western Conference. He has already shown you that he
- 37:05Speaker 4: is the top three player in the league. He's one
- 37:08Speaker 4: of the most funnest players I've ever got to see
- 37:10Speaker 4: watch in person. He commands the offense and yeah, his
- 37:13Speaker 4: defense isn't great. But I'll tell you what, if you
- 37:16Speaker 4: wanted to build around an NBA player for the future,
- 37:20Speaker 4: I think obviously ween Benyama's number one, But two and
- 37:23Speaker 4: three is it? Luca Jokic, Shay Giannis, Luca's top five,
- 37:29Speaker 4: top four, top three. He's twenty six years old. He's
- 37:33Speaker 4: twenty six years old, and now he's playing for your rival,
- 37:37Speaker 4: the Los Angeles Lakers. Now Nico Harrisons saying they wanted
- 37:41Speaker 4: a big man. The reason why they didn't even talk
- 37:44Speaker 4: to any other teams is because they just wanted Anthony
- 37:46Speaker 4: Davis eighties, thirty one, Kyrie's thirty two, Klay Thompson's thirty five.
- 37:53Speaker 4: You think you're gonna get You're gonna get a full,
- 37:57Speaker 4: healthy season from those three guys. I mean, Kyrie Irving
- 38:00Speaker 4: is a ticking time bomb. The fact that last season
- 38:04Speaker 4: he made it through the whole year. Made it through
- 38:06Speaker 4: the playoffs without some massive scandal is crazy. He seems
- 38:11Speaker 4: to be in a great spot in terms of basketball,
- 38:14Speaker 4: but you're gonna trust him Ad who can't stay on
- 38:17Speaker 4: the floor, and then Klay Thompson, who is in a
- 38:19Speaker 4: different stage of his NBA career. I loved the Dallas
- 38:23Speaker 4: Mavericks roster this season. I love the way they went
- 38:25Speaker 4: out and got Klay Thompson. I love Gafford, I love Lively. PJ.
- 38:30Speaker 4: Washington is a fantastic player, Kyrie, And with Luca, I mean,
- 38:34Speaker 4: you went to the NBA Championship this past season. Why
- 38:37Speaker 4: not give it one more shot this year. You didn't
- 38:40Speaker 4: have to trade Luca this season. You could have traded
- 38:44Speaker 4: him in the summer. And you're telling me that the
- 38:48Speaker 4: Lakers wouldn't have traded Ad in the summer as opposed
- 38:52Speaker 4: to last week. Give it one more run. The Western
- 38:55Speaker 4: Conference I think is not as deep as it was
- 38:59Speaker 4: last year. You have OKAC, who's in its own tier.
- 39:02Speaker 4: But remember Dallas is four and oh against OKAC. This
- 39:04Speaker 4: season they beat Oka se last year they were four
- 39:06Speaker 4: and oh. This year, without Luka Doncis playing, they were
- 39:09Speaker 4: winning with their teams injured against the best team in
- 39:12Speaker 4: the Western Conference. But outside of that, a Rockets team
- 39:14Speaker 4: unproven young, a Memphis team unproven young, A Lakers team
- 39:18Speaker 4: that yeh is playing good in the last two weeks,
- 39:20Speaker 4: but you're not really scared of what they have. Maver's
- 39:25Speaker 4: going the playoffs this season as long as Luca and
- 39:28Speaker 4: gafferd Lafe and Kyrie are healthy going into the playoffs,
- 39:32Speaker 4: they're the second best team in the Western Conference and
- 39:35Speaker 4: have gotten the best the best team already before. Why
- 39:40Speaker 4: not let that ride out? Nikio Harrison? Why not let
- 39:43Speaker 4: that ride out? Dallas Mavericks ownership. It blows my mind.
- 39:46Speaker 4: And that's just one part of it. Not talking to
- 39:48Speaker 4: anybody else is a second part of it. Uh, Dallas
- 39:51Speaker 4: Mavericks fans, I'm truly, truly sorry about what has happened.
- 39:58Speaker 4: As a thunderfan. When we James Harden was traded, it
- 40:01Speaker 4: was devastating and you tried to make sense of it.
- 40:04Speaker 4: You tried to be optimistic about it, and of course
- 40:06Speaker 4: you still had Kadie and Westbrook who were twenty three,
- 40:10Speaker 4: twenty four years old. This is completely different. However, you know,
- 40:14Speaker 4: we talked about it the plug and play, the Mavericks,
- 40:16Speaker 4: I think are still going to be a decent playoff team.
- 40:19Speaker 4: You match up well with Oklahoma City, So if you
- 40:22Speaker 4: can figure out a way to maybe face them in
- 40:23Speaker 4: the first or second round, pull off an upset. You
- 40:26Speaker 4: know who knows, because the thunder have struggled with teams
- 40:30Speaker 4: with the rebound the ball well and eighty and Gafford
- 40:32Speaker 4: and Lively. You know, Ads talked about wanting to play
- 40:35Speaker 4: with a big man. He's going to get that with
- 40:37Speaker 4: Lively and Gafford. If those guys can get healthy and
- 40:40Speaker 4: with Kyrie Irving, they should be a formidable team offensively
- 40:44Speaker 4: and defensively as well. Currently, the Mavericks currently the nine
- 40:48Speaker 4: seed twenty six and twenty four. Of the Lakers, by
- 40:51Speaker 4: the way, the five seed twenty eight to nineteen. No
- 40:53Speaker 4: Luca no Ad expect the Lakers to kind of fall
- 40:57Speaker 4: off during this month of February, but would not be
- 40:59Speaker 4: He's I just see the Dallas kind of climb their
- 41:01Speaker 4: way up back into the top six. Okay, up next,
- 41:03Speaker 4: we're gonna hear from Rodney Terry kayten Shrick, added Moore.
- 41:06Speaker 4: As The Craig Way Show continues here on this Monday afternoon.
- 41:13Speaker 5: Welcome back, to the Craig Way Show and the Voice
- 41:16Speaker 5: of the Longhorns. Craig Way. Follow Craig on social media
- 41:20Speaker 5: at Horn Voice.
- 41:36Speaker 4: We continue on the Monday edition of The Craig Wait Show,
- 41:39Speaker 4: camera worker filling in for mister Way, who is feeling
- 41:43Speaker 4: a little bit under the weather. Hope Craig can to
- 41:46Speaker 4: back tow one hundred percent. It's a busy week on
- 41:48Speaker 4: the forty acres. Texas Basketball hosting Arkansas Wednesday night, seven
- 41:54Speaker 4: thirty airtime, eight o'clock tip off that'll be heard right
- 41:58Speaker 4: here on thirteen hundred Zone, also on cave at FM
- 42:01Speaker 4: and one O three to one Austin's eighty station. Thursday night,
- 42:06Speaker 4: Texas women's basketball looks to go for their eighth straight
- 42:09Speaker 4: win against the Vanderbilt Commodoores. That'll be at Moody Center
- 42:14Speaker 4: seven to forty five airtime, eight o'clock tip off that'll
- 42:17Speaker 4: be heard on one O three one Austin's eighty station. Additionally,
- 42:22Speaker 4: at six o'clock, Longhorn Weekly with Coach Rodney Terry resumes
- 42:27Speaker 4: after last week's cancelation to the Texas being stuck in Oxford, Mississippi,
- 42:32Speaker 4: thanks to fog that grounded our flight out of Oxford
- 42:36Speaker 4: to Austin, so that'll be back at six. Craig hopefully
- 42:40Speaker 4: will be healed up by then and they'll be back
- 42:43Speaker 4: with RT and then we'll make its way over to the
- 42:44Speaker 4: Moody Center. And then Saturday, Texas men's basketball taking on
- 42:49Speaker 4: the Vanderbilt Commodorees eleven thirty am airtime, noon o'clock tip
- 42:54Speaker 4: from Nashville, Tennesseee. My first time going to the Nationale,
- 43:00Speaker 4: and I'll tell you what, I am super excited, actually
- 43:03Speaker 4: hoping to go three times this year, twice for work.
- 43:06Speaker 4: One for a little facation. We'll see what Vanderbilt had
- 43:10Speaker 4: climbed by the number twenty four in the top twenty five,
- 43:13Speaker 4: and then I think kept blown out by was it Missouri?
- 43:17Speaker 4: Right after ending up being ranked. It did not take
- 43:20Speaker 4: long for them to fall back down the earth. So
- 43:23Speaker 4: they are unraked. Arkansas unraked, but picked up a huge
- 43:28Speaker 4: win on Saturday against Kentucky as coach John Calla Perry
- 43:33Speaker 4: against his former school for the first time, and Arkansas
- 43:36Speaker 4: took Kentucky to the wood shed in Lackington. A huge
- 43:41Speaker 4: win for Arkansas. So they're gonna come in on Wednesday night,
- 43:44Speaker 4: you know. Film themselves. Hopefully Texas will be able to
- 43:48Speaker 4: take advantage of the bravado from Arkansas. But Longhorns also
- 43:52Speaker 4: coming off a big win, a thirty one point victory
- 43:57Speaker 4: at LSU on Saturday, So it was a tough up
- 44:00Speaker 4: and down week for Texas basketball. Of course, me and
- 44:02Speaker 4: Craig unable to visit with you guys. We did it
- 44:05Speaker 4: in part, but not fully because of our travel schedule
- 44:08Speaker 4: thanks to us being stuck in Oxford. So it was
- 44:11Speaker 4: a five day trip for Texas basketball. Two games to play.
- 44:13Speaker 4: Texas goes one to one, losing to Ole Miss, who
- 44:17Speaker 4: was what twenty two to twenty three in the country
- 44:19Speaker 4: at the time, and I think they're down to twenty
- 44:22Speaker 4: five after their loss to Auburn. I hate when the
- 44:26Speaker 4: team loses the number one team in the country and
- 44:28Speaker 4: they fall down the rankings. Just does not make any sense.
- 44:31Speaker 4: So you lost to a team technically you're supposed to
- 44:33Speaker 4: lose too, but you lose spots in the rankings. But again,
- 44:36Speaker 4: the polls really just don't matter anyway. Texas a game
- 44:39Speaker 4: they you know, they probably should have won, had a
- 44:42Speaker 4: good chance, had a couple of good lucks miss three
- 44:44Speaker 4: throw here, miss runner here, and I missed three three
- 44:47Speaker 4: point of the tie it Texas loses. I was a
- 44:50Speaker 4: bit worried going into Saturday's game because of a couple
- 44:53Speaker 4: of things. One, you know, your flight home gets canceled
- 44:57Speaker 4: and you gotta fly the baton rouge. You're in a
- 44:59Speaker 4: hote hell for five days, you're not in your place
- 45:02Speaker 4: of living. You can become a little bit, you know, restless,
- 45:06Speaker 4: maybe lose a little bit of energy, you lose some focus.
- 45:10Speaker 4: But I thought Texas looked unbelievably fresh against LSU the
- 45:16Speaker 4: first half, up and down. I think had six turnovers
- 45:20Speaker 4: in just some real stupid turnovers, like leading the fast break,
- 45:25Speaker 4: trying to throw it up ahead and you just throw
- 45:27Speaker 4: it out a bounce. Stuff like that. Just turnovers that
- 45:29Speaker 4: really were self inflicted, not coming from LSU good defense,
- 45:32Speaker 4: just coming from self inflicted wounds. It was a three
- 45:35Speaker 4: point game in the first half against sell Us Shoe,
- 45:37Speaker 4: and I turned to Eddie Orrin of course, to the
- 45:40Speaker 4: Brosque broadcast analyst on the Long Court Radio now Work,
- 45:43Speaker 4: and I said, you know, Texas should be up by
- 45:46Speaker 4: twenty at half time. They just completely outplayed LSU. But
- 45:49Speaker 4: somehow LSU still found the way to stay in the ballgame.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Second half begins, three point game, four point game. Sorry,
- 45:59Speaker 4: about two minutes into the contest, I think Corey Chests
- 46:03Speaker 4: had a layup. He scored I think all six of
- 46:05Speaker 4: his points in the second half to start the second half,
- 46:09Speaker 4: and then Texas went on a twenty two to six
- 46:13Speaker 4: run and some of the best basketball I think Texas
- 46:17Speaker 4: has played all season long, and it was coming from everybody.
- 46:22Speaker 4: Jordan Pope, Tremon, Mark Kayden Schederick Trad Johnson, Arthur Caluma,
- 46:26Speaker 4: Defon Pryor, Nick Cody, Julian Larry, Chasing Kent, everybody was
- 46:33Speaker 4: getting in on the action. Went on a twenty two
- 46:36Speaker 4: to six run to put them up by double digits.
- 46:41Speaker 4: In the second half, Tigers would cut it to eighteen
- 46:48Speaker 4: three point play that. There was a moment there in
- 46:50Speaker 4: the beginning second half, or about halfway through it, LSU
- 46:53Speaker 4: got into the bonus one to one. We're shooting three throws. Okay,
- 46:57Speaker 4: you know, maybe they'll sneak back into this game.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Nope.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Texas would end the game almost on seventeen to five spurt.
- 47:05Speaker 4: Prior had a huge put back to put Texas up
- 47:08Speaker 4: by it by thirty points, and that was that Texas
- 47:10Speaker 4: goes ahead and comes away with a eighty nine the
- 47:12Speaker 4: fifty eighth victory, gets back in the win calumn and
- 47:17Speaker 4: now currently four and five in conference play overall their
- 47:21Speaker 4: record this season, and I'm not going to get two
- 47:23Speaker 4: worked up over regular season records because I just don't
- 47:26Speaker 4: think they mean that much even when you look at
- 47:30Speaker 4: it in the in the SEC standings don't even show
- 47:32Speaker 4: it at fifteen and seven actually on the season, which
- 47:35Speaker 4: again I don't know what that means anything, but they
- 47:38Speaker 4: are four and five, and I think that matters because
- 47:40Speaker 4: I think for Texas, you know, to be comfortably in
- 47:43Speaker 4: the NCATE tournament, you want to be you want to
- 47:46Speaker 4: be about eight wins. That's the goal for the staff
- 47:49Speaker 4: is the be at eight wins. And if you're going
- 47:52Speaker 4: to lose close schemes to Tennessee, an Ole, miss An, Auburn, Florida,
- 47:59Speaker 4: you got to make sure that you the teams who
- 48:02Speaker 4: you're supposed to be. That's the Oklahomas, the Georgias, the arkansass,
- 48:06Speaker 4: the LSU's, the South Carolina's in so far the teams
- 48:10Speaker 4: who are below five hundred in conference play. Texas is
- 48:14Speaker 4: currently two and oh against them, and they play another
- 48:16Speaker 4: one on Wednesday in Arkansas and coming up against Vanderbilt,
- 48:21Speaker 4: who are four and four. Texas really needs to go
- 48:23Speaker 4: too and oh this week to continue to push themselves
- 48:26Speaker 4: into a good spot into the tournament. Now mentioned, it
- 48:30Speaker 4: was a great second half, maybe the best basketball I've
- 48:33Speaker 4: seen Texas play this season. You're saying, Okay, LSU is
- 48:36Speaker 4: one in seven, one win. Of course they should win
- 48:40Speaker 4: by thirty points. Not so fast, my friend. Here's why.
- 48:43Speaker 4: LSU lost to Ole miss by twelve, lost to Vanderbilt
- 48:49Speaker 4: by eight, lost to Missouri by only sixteen, beat Arkansas
- 48:53Speaker 4: by four only, lost to A and M by eleven,
- 48:55Speaker 4: lost to Alabama number four by seven, lost to Auburn
- 48:59Speaker 4: by thirteen. Getting this is their worst loss in conference play,
- 49:02Speaker 4: their worst loss in conference play this season. They're a
- 49:04Speaker 4: team that has put up a good fight, and that's
- 49:07Speaker 4: how this conference is. Arkansas, South Carolina even you know,
- 49:10Speaker 4: they're not getting blown out by thirty points a game.
- 49:13Speaker 4: So for Texas, a win by thirty, I think it's
- 49:15Speaker 4: a bit of a statement here.
- 49:16Speaker 8: Now.
- 49:16Speaker 4: Of course, we'll see what happens this week. Gotta go
- 49:21Speaker 4: to a know this week, I think you gotta go
- 49:22Speaker 4: to and No that it'll be you gotta get above
- 49:24Speaker 4: five hundred in conference play, and if you can be
- 49:27Speaker 4: at five and five through the first ten games of
- 49:30Speaker 4: conference play, that is a win. Considering how good the
- 49:33Speaker 4: SEC is, Auburn, that's the best team in the country.
- 49:37Speaker 4: After seeing them play Texas there, they are my pick
- 49:39Speaker 4: to win March Masters. As long as Pettiford and Kelly
- 49:43Speaker 4: and Janiah Broomer healthy, they are my pick to win
- 49:45Speaker 4: the NCACH. They they're without a doubt, the most complete
- 49:49Speaker 4: team in the country, and they have five guys on
- 49:52Speaker 4: the floor who can score, and they play darn good
- 49:56Speaker 4: defense as well. Two other notes, and we'll get to
- 49:59Speaker 4: some audio from our the next segment. Kayden Shederick season
- 50:03Speaker 4: high sixteen points and ten rebounds in Tremon Marcus season
- 50:07Speaker 4: high eighteen points, Tremon Mark first half defensively and Cam Carter,
- 50:13Speaker 4: he put him in jail. Carter came in as one
- 50:16Speaker 4: of the I think the leading score.
- 50:18Speaker 3: In the SEC.
- 50:20Speaker 4: Might want to double check my work on that seventeen
- 50:23Speaker 4: points a game, shooting forty four percent from the floor
- 50:28Speaker 4: going into that game. Let's see, finished with what six
- 50:32Speaker 4: points on two to seven shooting. He just checked out
- 50:34Speaker 4: in the second half. He did not want any part
- 50:37Speaker 4: of what Tremon Mark was doing to him, and Tremont
- 50:40Speaker 4: didn't scroll out in the first half, and the second
- 50:42Speaker 4: half he sure did. He was knocking down jumpers, three pointers,
- 50:45Speaker 4: I believe had a big and one as well. Loved
- 50:49Speaker 4: love what I'm seeing from Tremon Mark. He's a next
- 50:52Speaker 4: factor on this team.
- 50:53Speaker 8: Guys.
- 50:53Speaker 4: If he can lock in defensively and continue to play hard,
- 50:57Speaker 4: this will help this Texas team go deep in the postseason.
- 51:00Speaker 4: But they get that leave. They got to pick up
- 51:02Speaker 4: two wins this week, starting off with Arkansas, who, by
- 51:05Speaker 4: the way, is the old school of mister Tremon Mark.
- 51:10Speaker 4: We're going to continue with our Texas basketball conversation up next,
- 51:13Speaker 4: going to hear from Rodney Terry and Caden Shedrick as
- 51:17Speaker 4: a Pregway show continues here on thirteen hundred The Zone.
- 51:26Speaker 6: We're back.
- 51:27Speaker 5: It's the Craig Way Show with Hall of Vane broadcaster
- 51:30Speaker 5: and voice of the Texas Longhearts Craig Way.
- 51:40Speaker 4: So maybe lost in that two game, five day road
- 51:44Speaker 4: trip for Texas was the fact that head coach Rodney
- 51:47Speaker 4: Terry actually was battling the flu and for most of
- 51:51Speaker 4: the Thursday and Friday was trying to rest and recover
- 51:54Speaker 4: and looked appeared to be well on Saturday, said he
- 51:57Speaker 4: felt better, looked pretty good as well, and of course
- 52:00Speaker 4: Texas look good in the basketball court and the thirty
- 52:02Speaker 4: point thirty one point victory over l Shoe And after
- 52:05Speaker 4: the game, our own Craig Way and Eddie Orrin visited
- 52:08Speaker 4: the head coach the Texas Longhorns, Rodney Terry.
- 52:11Speaker 1: I know things that they're sliding scales and stuff like that,
- 52:14Speaker 1: but would it be safe to say that, uh, this
- 52:17Speaker 1: was one of the better second halfs your team has
- 52:19Speaker 1: played the entire season.
- 52:20Speaker 10: You know what really chaluts the guys that have time
- 52:23Speaker 10: to trust the process. I mean we've getting We've been
- 52:25Speaker 10: getting bet over the last three weeks of the season,
- 52:27Speaker 10: both offense and defense. Mean, we just need to put
- 52:30Speaker 10: together a forty minute game to where we competed the
- 52:33Speaker 10: entire time. You know, I thought we did that for
- 52:35Speaker 10: a better part of the other night at Ole Miss
- 52:37Speaker 10: and didn't have anything to show for it.
- 52:39Speaker 3: Feel like we deserved to win that game.
- 52:41Speaker 10: And and but but in the at least like like
- 52:43Speaker 10: we playing you have it for one night. It's a
- 52:45Speaker 10: quick turnaround. We didn't get a chance to go home.
- 52:48Speaker 10: I like to again give my staff a lot of credit, uh,
- 52:51Speaker 10: in terms of what they do every game, in terms
- 52:53Speaker 10: of preparation for our guys, but in particular this game.
- 52:56Speaker 3: I mean I was on my death bed for thirty Yeah,
- 52:58Speaker 3: a lot of a lot.
- 52:59Speaker 1: Of people don't know this, that the head basketball coacher
- 53:02Speaker 1: is really fighting through a flu bug of the last
- 53:04Speaker 1: forty eight hours or really had a bad oo.
- 53:06Speaker 10: It knocked me down pretty good. I mean, you know,
- 53:09Speaker 10: it took a lot out of that game. Took a
- 53:11Speaker 10: lot out of me going into the game. I was
- 53:12Speaker 10: not feeling well. But but but after that game, I mean,
- 53:15Speaker 10: one I trainer, I mean, he's got more men than
- 53:18Speaker 10: me right now that I can speak of.
- 53:20Speaker 3: But he did a tremendous job.
- 53:22Speaker 10: I had a fever running there for a good while,
- 53:24Speaker 10: and we finally got the fever to finally break by
- 53:26Speaker 10: four o'clock yesterday, and I could kind of get with
- 53:28Speaker 10: the team that night a little bit without being contagious.
- 53:30Speaker 1: You know, one thing, I wanted to get your thoughts
- 53:33Speaker 1: on two guys and what I mean, you had so
- 53:36Speaker 1: many guys with the big accomplishments today and contributions, but
- 53:39Speaker 1: what Tramond did on Cam Carter, I thought really was
- 53:43Speaker 1: stood out and what Cayden did there with the double
- 53:46Speaker 1: double on the way he played, I also gave you
- 53:48Speaker 1: that big inside presence.
- 53:49Speaker 3: Cam Carter the leading scorer in the SEC right now.
- 53:52Speaker 10: He's been a guy that's kind of been a thrown
- 53:54Speaker 10: an outside over the course of his career, a case
- 53:56Speaker 10: eight really good player, I mean, terrific player. And we
- 53:59Speaker 10: knew going into the game, and we could do a
- 54:00Speaker 10: great job of, you know, not shutting him down, but
- 54:03Speaker 10: containing him and not having a crazy night, and we'd
- 54:05Speaker 10: be in a great position in terms of being able
- 54:08Speaker 10: to win this ball game. You know, series are really
- 54:10Speaker 10: good player. But Traymont played excellent defense, you know, but
- 54:13Speaker 10: he also brought his offensive game too, and one of
- 54:15Speaker 10: his better games of the year. I thought he was
- 54:17Speaker 10: really good. I thought choosing high for seats and high
- 54:19Speaker 10: for him, but both then just played the complete ball game.
- 54:22Speaker 10: Kateen played really well for us in the paint. We
- 54:24Speaker 10: wanted attack inside out and had one of his better
- 54:26Speaker 10: ball games of the year.
- 54:27Speaker 3: And you know, I thought, collectively as a group.
- 54:29Speaker 10: Our whole team just I wanted our team to be
- 54:31Speaker 10: a hungry team, and they were hungry.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Were you determined to keep Kate out there to let
- 54:35Speaker 1: him get that double double because the bench just went
- 54:36Speaker 1: crazy and he said he he said, I had nine
- 54:38Speaker 1: rebounds of the twelve minute mark, so I was still
- 54:40Speaker 1: trying to get it.
- 54:41Speaker 3: Yeah, no, he earned it. He earned it today, you know.
- 54:43Speaker 10: And and again he was going to be a focal
- 54:45Speaker 10: point in terms of really trying to score in the
- 54:47Speaker 10: paint the last ball game. You know, they they did
- 54:49Speaker 10: a good job attacking us in the paint, their big
- 54:51Speaker 10: guys guys a little bit. But we felt like coming
- 54:53Speaker 10: into this game we needed to play a little bit
- 54:54Speaker 10: more inside out and have a physical presence as well.
- 54:57Speaker 10: And Kate had a great ball game against those guys
- 54:59Speaker 10: last year and he used to and as well.
- 55:00Speaker 3: So, uh, he did a great job today for us.
- 55:03Speaker 2: I thought today's game was a direct carry over for
- 55:07Speaker 2: from a great practice yesterday. I thought the spirited focus prayer, Yes,
- 55:10Speaker 2: Theay's practice one of your better ones.
- 55:12Speaker 10: Yeah, maybe I should just stay away from practice sometimes
- 55:14Speaker 10: the day before the game.
- 55:15Speaker 3: And let my coaches had those guys did an excellent job.
- 55:19Speaker 10: Now they've done a great job all year long with
- 55:21Speaker 10: with preparation and h uh, they really had our guys
- 55:25Speaker 10: locked in and focused for this ball game here in
- 55:27Speaker 10: terms of what we needed to.
- 55:28Speaker 3: Do prep wise.
- 55:29Speaker 10: All of our coaches are involved in every game in
- 55:32Speaker 10: terms of our prenp work. Frank does the offense, Steve
- 55:35Speaker 10: does the defense. You know, Matts and today had the scout.
- 55:38Speaker 10: You know, Byron has special situations, Brandon has you know,
- 55:42Speaker 10: personnel one on one stuff. So you know, every game,
- 55:45Speaker 10: our guys are involved in the preparation piece and they
- 55:47Speaker 10: do a.
- 55:47Speaker 3: Great job along with our support staff. I can't can't
- 55:50Speaker 3: leave our support staff out.
- 55:51Speaker 10: They do a lot of a lot of workman type
- 55:53Speaker 10: work as well in terms of hours they put in
- 55:55Speaker 10: as well.
- 55:56Speaker 1: No doubt about it. So you come up on this
- 55:58Speaker 1: next game against Arkansas with a chance to get back
- 56:01Speaker 1: to level five hundred conference, playing the toughest conference in
- 56:04Speaker 1: the country that's obviously big, and just maintaining the momentum.
- 56:08Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you know you have these games again
- 56:10Speaker 3: for one night.
- 56:10Speaker 10: We're gonna have a really talented Arkansas team coming in
- 56:13Speaker 10: a lot of respect for coach cal And in his
- 56:16Speaker 10: program and and in his coaching career for that matter,
- 56:19Speaker 10: and things, so we know we're gonna get a team
- 56:21Speaker 10: that's gonna come in and really push us to the limit.
- 56:23Speaker 3: Uh, and being at home, it's not enough in this league.
- 56:25Speaker 10: When you're at home, man, you got to you gotta
- 56:27Speaker 10: have you a games just like you do on the road,
- 56:29Speaker 10: you know. So every night's battle in this in this league,
- 56:32Speaker 10: I mean, it's it's why it's the best league in
- 56:33Speaker 10: the country.
- 56:34Speaker 1: Hey, Artie, thanks for the time. Congratulations on the winning.
- 56:37Speaker 1: Glad you're able to heal up.
- 56:38Speaker 3: Oh, thanks, Greg.
- 56:39Speaker 10: I'm looking forward to well, we're looking forward to getting
- 56:41Speaker 10: back to Austin. We've been out on this road for
- 56:43Speaker 10: a whole week, so the boys and ourselves are ready
- 56:45Speaker 10: to get back to Austin.
- 56:46Speaker 4: They were very excited to get back to Austin self
- 56:50Speaker 4: included five days. I think I spent more money buying
- 56:53Speaker 4: clothes than I ever have on a work trip. Shout
- 56:57Speaker 4: out to the Dillards and the Tzara in the H
- 57:01Speaker 4: and M at the shopping mall. That helps supply myself
- 57:04Speaker 4: and Eddie Orn's clothing for the rest of that trip.
- 57:08Speaker 4: To Baton Rouge now in Texas. Will take on Arkansas
- 57:12Speaker 4: next onesday. You heard RT talk about Kaden Schedrick Craig
- 57:16Speaker 4: as well a double double sixteen points, ten rebounds. Craig
- 57:22Speaker 4: and Eddie also visited with Kaden Shedrick after the victory
- 57:26Speaker 4: in Baton Rouge.
- 57:27Speaker 1: I saw you exchanging pleasantries with Ji Bailey. I say,
- 57:30Speaker 1: he's from Wilson, so you guys must know each other. Yeah,
- 57:32Speaker 1: we both played for Gardner Road. Okay, you guys really
- 57:36Speaker 1: worked very hard. You individually, but the team I thought
- 57:38Speaker 1: did a really good job against Cam Carter. How about
- 57:41Speaker 1: the fault on how everybody teamed up defensively to do
- 57:43Speaker 1: what you had to do today.
- 57:44Speaker 11: Yeah, that was a big emphasis for us, not only
- 57:47Speaker 11: this game, but the last few games. You know, I
- 57:48Speaker 11: think that a lot of guys would have been taken
- 57:50Speaker 11: it personal and trying to guard extra hard. And you know,
- 57:52Speaker 11: I thought that Tremont had a tough matchup tonight. And
- 57:55Speaker 11: Cam Carty is a last scorer, the best born sec
- 57:58Speaker 11: at Tama. What was I say? Two for seven? Taman
- 58:02Speaker 11: did his job, The team did our job, and we
- 58:04Speaker 11: came out with the win.
- 58:04Speaker 1: How about you with what you were able to do.
- 58:06Speaker 1: I know you felt good about that three. You totally
- 58:09Speaker 1: shit pluckers. You said I can shoot the three. Yeah,
- 58:11Speaker 1: you know, I kind of went way for it for
- 58:13Speaker 1: a while there. You know, I hit when at A
- 58:16Speaker 1: and M took two to night.
- 58:17Speaker 11: They both felt good and one went in, so you know,
- 58:19Speaker 11: that always feels good, So hopefully I can keep going
- 58:21Speaker 11: on that the rest of the season.
- 58:22Speaker 2: I really thought you did a great job working early,
- 58:24Speaker 2: showing the high hand insteads position, and working inside out
- 58:28Speaker 2: with this team.
- 58:28Speaker 11: Yes, sir, Yeah, I thought that that was definitely a
- 58:30Speaker 11: big emphasis for us going to this game, was playing
- 58:32Speaker 11: inside out. We know if we get more paint touches,
- 58:35Speaker 11: we'll get more assistant we'll score a lot more points.
- 58:36Speaker 11: And you know, playing team basketball, that's what we're starting
- 58:39Speaker 11: to shift to. And I think that we've looked a
- 58:40Speaker 11: lot better recently playing this Well.
- 58:42Speaker 1: All right, all your teammates knew you were one rebound
- 58:44Speaker 1: shot the double double? Did you know what at the
- 58:46Speaker 1: time that you were oute there?
- 58:46Speaker 6: Oh?
- 58:46Speaker 11: I knew it the whole time. They told me I
- 58:48Speaker 11: have time to go get my double double in. So
- 58:50Speaker 11: I had like nine rebounds with like twelve minutes left,
- 58:53Speaker 11: came back in with eight minutes left, and.
- 58:54Speaker 4: It felt like everything was going in.
- 58:55Speaker 11: Like I was running to the glass every time I
- 58:57Speaker 11: couldn't get Nick was able to keep a ball alive.
- 59:00Speaker 8: I was able to write it down.
- 59:00Speaker 11: They gave me the boards, so you know, always feels good.
- 59:02Speaker 1: How long did this road trip seem because they're getting
- 59:06Speaker 1: stuck at Oxford on Wednesday night.
- 59:07Speaker 11: Yeah, it was definitely a tough trip, but I think
- 59:09Speaker 11: that we grew a lot as a team here. I think,
- 59:13Speaker 11: you know, we came a lot closer. You know, it
- 59:15Speaker 11: was just kind of unfortunate our flight got canceled and
- 59:17Speaker 11: all that, but I thought we made the most out
- 59:19Speaker 11: of the trip and we were able to split the
- 59:20Speaker 11: road games, were always going to SEC and ready to
- 59:22Speaker 11: go on home tonight.
- 59:23Speaker 1: Okay, great effort, Thanks for that. I appreciate it, so
- 59:26Speaker 1: thank you.
- 59:26Speaker 4: Being with those guys all week, you could definitely see
- 59:28Speaker 4: the team starting to grow together a bit more. I
- 59:32Speaker 4: feel like the team already has great chemistry. I think
- 59:34Speaker 4: all the guys get along very well. There there's some
- 59:37Speaker 4: there's some characters on the team. Nick Cody has a
- 59:42Speaker 4: fantastic personality, Trey Giantstons got a good personality, Jewels, Jason Kent.
- 59:48Speaker 4: All those guys are our characters, Kayten as well, and
- 59:51Speaker 4: so off the court, they all get along very well.
- 59:54Speaker 4: But you know, when you're stuck together for a week,
- 59:56Speaker 4: and you know Thursday Friday, not a lot of basketball
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: tivity you have to do. You do have to hang
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: out with each other a lot, and we're kind of
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: seeing that throughout the season. One note real quick, before
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: we hit this break on Thursday, So Thursday, I think
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: it was actually Friday. So of course, usually how the
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: way it goes, Texas wouldn't have gotten in the Baton
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: Rouge until Friday afternoon. Probably at that time the team
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: either would not have had a shoot around or if
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: they did, it would have been Friday night at the
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: Pete Mayor Pitch Assembly Center. Now, because Texas has gotten
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: in on Thursday and the guys didn't have a practice
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Thursday night, I think the staff wanted to get the
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: guys a practice early Friday, but for whatever reason, the
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: timing did not work. With LSU, they probably had their
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: own practice Friday morning. Texas didn't want to wait until
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: Friday night, especially with a little bit of an earlier
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: time on Saturday, so the team practiced at Catholic High
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: School in New Orleans or sorry, in Baton Rouge, excuse me,
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: in North Northeast Baton Rouge Catholic high school fairly new
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: as well, was a twenty twenty three state champion basketball
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: in their district, class whatever. So we pull in to
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: this high school. It's to all boys academy, and we're
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: getting heckled. We're getting hackled by kids. They're calling us,
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: or they called us, they called the team a sorry
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: blank team. You know, these are freshman kids, just heckling
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: Trey Johnson and the staff. And then we got in
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: the practice and everyone there was super nice, fantastic staff.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: By the way, he's just high school kids being high
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: school kids. Most of them are probably LSU fans, but
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: they came in to watch the practice. A nice high
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: school gymnasium. We're getting horns down shot at us. Pretty funny,
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: but it kind of energized the guys. I think a
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: lot of smiles in practice, you know, being back in
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: a high school gymnasium. I think a lot of nostalgic
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: feelings for those guys, you know, kind of going back
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: to when you just hoop to have fun.
- 1:01:48Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: We saw that and I think that benefited the Texas
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: team and the chemistry. And we saw that on Saturday,
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: and we saw it when Kayt and Sedder got that
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: tenth rebound art call the time out and the team
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: came over and celebrated with Cayden as well. So Taxes
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: with a victory thirty one point victory over LSU and
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: now onto a one night homestand Wednesday against Arkansas. They'd
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: love to go back to five hundred in conference play
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: for the first time this season. We'll wrap up hour
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: two up next year on the Craig Way Show. Cameron
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: Park are filling in for mister Way, filling a little
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: bit under the weather. Hopefully we'll be back tomorrow with
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: some much needed rest for Craig, who you know, if
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: I thought my travels were crazy past week, a little
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: bit different for Craig, a little bit insight. And you
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: may have heard this this past week when he was
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: on with Andrew Zimmel. So Tuesday leave for Oxford, the
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: Texas loses the ole miss, first time Chris Beard has
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: faced Texas since his removal from the program. We find
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: out post came that we're not getting out of Oxford
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: that night or at Tupelow rather because the airport's and
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: Tupelau about an hour drive, So we know we're going
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: to have to stay an extra night in Oxford and
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: then drive the tube below and maybe go back to
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: Austin the next day. We'll we find out that because
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: the turnaround process, you fly in to Austin twenty four
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: hours later, we're going to have to be back at
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: the airport to fly the Baton Ruge. The team decides
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: to go ahead and let's just go to Baton Rouge
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: and cat LSU and prepare there.
- 1:03:22Speaker 8: Well.
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: In Texas women's basketball had a game that night against
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: Missouri Thursday night that moody and also, you know, there's
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: Longhorn Weekly with coach Terry that gets canceled obviously because
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: coach Terry's not going to do it from a zoom
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: room at the hotel in Baton Rouge, although the Renaissance
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: Fantastic Hotel I highly recommend. Also, coach Terry had the flu. Now,
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: Roger Wallace usually would have gone in, but of course
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: Roger Wallace sports director of KIXA and has other duties
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: and you know, twenty four hour notice that ideal. So
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: Craig Thursday morning takes an uber from Oxford to Memphis
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: garrit A. Guess how much that uber cost? One hundred
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: and sixty dollars. Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and expense
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: that one sixty Uber up to Memphis, then flies to DFW,
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: then from DFW flies to Austin, and then from Austin
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: goes back up the Georgetown change of clothes, drives to
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: Moody calls Texas against Missouri. Longhorns win. Friday, flies in
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: the baton Rouge calls a game against LSU Saturday. We
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: fly it back to Austin Saturday night. Then Sunday drives
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: down the College station Taxa women's basketball takes on the Aggies.
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: Longhorns win by twenty. Craig drives back up to Austin. Yeah,
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: so it kind of makes sense why Bide takes a
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: toll after a little bit, and especially with high flu
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: season allergies, doesn't take much to get you sick on that.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: So hopefully Craig gets better a little bit less of
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: a crazy travel week for US. Friday, we're out Andrew
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: zimm we'll be back on for US. We fly to Nashville.
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: We'll be back probably within twenty four hours because Texas
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: plays at noon, so we'll be in Nashville for maybe
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: a day if that. Come back and then Texas Texas
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: actually has a nice home schedule coming up, folks. So
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: you're looking for a Texas basketball game. You got Arkansas
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: on Wednesday night at Moody. This is the men's by
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: the way. Then next week Alabama comes in, Who's out?
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: Number three on Tuesday night? And then Kentucky, Who's what? Twelve?
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: What did I say they were at? They come in
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: on Saturday. Now the women's side gets really fun the
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: next two weeks. Vanderbilt at home Thursday night, Sunday, number
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: two South Carolina at Moody one o'clock. Be there, be
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: there in the following Sunday, LSU kim Mulki, be there.
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: Actually where we ate for dinner on Friday night was
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: the same place to Kimmulki was that I was looking
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: for some ridiculous pink sparkle jacket. Did not see it,
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: so I did not know she was there until afterwards.
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: But LSU will be in town in two weeks. So
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: if you're looking to come to a Texas basketball game
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: the next two weeks are I deal? Okay mentioned women's
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: basketball Texas eighty to sixty over Texas A and M
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: last night, the only meeting between the two schools this
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: season a little bit odd. Texas will play A and
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: M twice and men's side of things, but only once
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: in the women's side of things. So their only meeting
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: at College Station Cotton Holdings lone star showdown, Texas takes
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: another point. Did so in a game in which they
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: trailed for a little sorry they were, they led for
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: I believe all of it. But A and M would
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: make a push here and there. Not the best season
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: for the Aggies, but Texas ultimately would pull away and
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: take the victory. I said, eighty sixty seventy fifty. Excuse me,
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: but Maddie Booker seventeen points thirteen rebounds by the way,
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: her career high, her fourth double double of the season.
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: Roy Harmony one of her best games, shooting y seven
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: to nine, shooting fifteen points, five assists, one turnover. Texas
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: only had seven turnovers in the game, the same amount
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: that the Texas men's side had, and the seven turnover
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: came at the very end of the game when Julian
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: Larry took a shot clock violation. Because up by thirty one,
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: you can't bring down your field goal percentage, right, guys,
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: so did so that Texas went up early just did
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: not look back. Aggie's only shot thirty five percent in
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: the fourth quarter, not ideal for them. Shay Holly had
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: had a big game shooting, had knocked down a pair
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: of three pointers that were ideal for Texas. Led by
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: seventeen points at a halftime, ended up winning by twenty.
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: Now will face Standerbilt on Thursday, who are ranked twenty third.
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: After the game, Craig Way and Kathy Harston visited with
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: coach Schaeffer in his return to College Station as the
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: head coach the Texas Long words.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: We said this before the game. I know that this
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: place means a lot to you, and you had some
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: great years here and all that kind of stuff. So
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: in your current line of work, it's it's good to
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: come in here and get.
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: A win, isn't it.
- 1:08:11Speaker 8: No doubt, it wouldn't matter where I'm at. You know,
- 1:08:14Speaker 8: you want to come in here and play well and
- 1:08:16Speaker 8: you want to win.
- 1:08:17Speaker 12: And certainly had some really special years here. Obviously, my
- 1:08:21Speaker 12: kids went to half of their high school years here,
- 1:08:23Speaker 12: and so we have lots of friends that are still here.
- 1:08:25Speaker 8: But you know, business is business.
- 1:08:27Speaker 12: And you've got to come in here and play and
- 1:08:31Speaker 12: and you know, we had some moments where we played
- 1:08:33Speaker 12: really well, and we had some moments that we didn't.
- 1:08:35Speaker 8: And the good thing is is you got You've.
- 1:08:38Speaker 12: Got a twenty point win that you can teach with,
- 1:08:41Speaker 12: and we got plenty to clean up and get better.
- 1:08:44Speaker 12: But at the end of the day, we're going to
- 1:08:47Speaker 12: take that win and get home and get ready for
- 1:08:51Speaker 12: the next one.
- 1:08:51Speaker 8: I don't even know who that.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Is, but we'll get ready.
- 1:08:54Speaker 8: There you go.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Yeah, Kathy mentioned at the start of the game that
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: this was a game that we felt like your team
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: needed to go out and establish control of this thing
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: and impose the will early, and it looked like they
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: did that right from the start.
- 1:09:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:09:10Speaker 12: I thought the press was good early and kind of
- 1:09:12Speaker 12: credit some problems for him, and we got some turnovers
- 1:09:14Speaker 12: off that, and then you know, I thought we executed
- 1:09:17Speaker 12: really good the first half.
- 1:09:18Speaker 8: Second half not so much.
- 1:09:20Speaker 12: Really disappointed and in some of our execution in that
- 1:09:23Speaker 12: third quarter got outscored.
- 1:09:26Speaker 8: Fourth was a little better.
- 1:09:27Speaker 12: But you know, I still think we should be scoring
- 1:09:30Speaker 12: eighty points a night. I think I've got the personnel
- 1:09:33Speaker 12: to do it. You know, Jacquelina got a bunch of
- 1:09:36Speaker 12: good looks tonight. She's got to do better. Than I
- 1:09:39Speaker 12: think she was three for nine and half. She made
- 1:09:41Speaker 12: both of them in the second half. But you know,
- 1:09:44Speaker 12: Shay had some really good looks. She made two big ones,
- 1:09:46Speaker 12: you know there when we got in the second half
- 1:09:48Speaker 12: when they had cut it down a little bit.
- 1:09:50Speaker 8: And so I thought Rory played really good. I thought.
- 1:09:54Speaker 12: Bree played really good off the bench, gave us a spark,
- 1:09:57Speaker 12: had four assists, no turnovers, So she's getting more time
- 1:10:01Speaker 12: as we go, She's going to earn more time, and
- 1:10:05Speaker 12: so we just I think the biggest thing tonight, I
- 1:10:07Speaker 12: thought our five players could have been way better.
- 1:10:09Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:10:10Speaker 12: I thought we kind of got pushed around down there
- 1:10:12Speaker 12: a little bit and we.
- 1:10:14Speaker 8: Just weren't very tough down there. So we got to
- 1:10:16Speaker 8: be better.
- 1:10:17Speaker 12: But again we're Booker was seven fourteen, very efficient, had
- 1:10:23Speaker 12: thirteen rebounds, double double, you know, five assists, only one turnover,
- 1:10:27Speaker 12: two steals, had a block.
- 1:10:30Speaker 8: The kid's just special, man.
- 1:10:31Speaker 12: You know, she's just a really special kid and great kid.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: You know, the other thing you told me before the game,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: he said, we've got to do a better job on
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: cutting back and cutting down on turnovers. Through three quarters,
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: you had five turnovers but did not allowed a single
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: point off a turnover. They got a couple of buckets
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: and garbage down there. But were you pleased with what
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: you saw in terms of taking better care of the ball?
- 1:10:54Speaker 8: Well, we had.
- 1:10:54Speaker 12: Two turnovers at half, so I was really pleased with that.
- 1:10:57Speaker 12: Seven For the game, I'm really happy with We only
- 1:11:01Speaker 12: forced eleven, which is not typical for us, but we
- 1:11:05Speaker 12: held them to thirty seven percent shooting, and third quarter
- 1:11:08Speaker 12: was just bad. You know, It's just they shot forty
- 1:11:10Speaker 12: six percent and we just we weren't very good in
- 1:11:13Speaker 12: the third quarter, which is disappointing coming out of the
- 1:11:15Speaker 12: locker room. But at the end of the day again,
- 1:11:18Speaker 12: and we're still trying to play with a different, different
- 1:11:21Speaker 12: type of lineup, and you know, we were better today
- 1:11:24Speaker 12: in some aspects. And again, when you got a team
- 1:11:27Speaker 12: that's playing zone most of the game against you, sometimes
- 1:11:31Speaker 12: you get down.
- 1:11:32Speaker 8: To the shock.
- 1:11:32Speaker 12: I thought we made some big shots at the end
- 1:11:34Speaker 12: of the clock, you know, I thought kids, Rory made
- 1:11:36Speaker 12: some big shots and Maddie and so you know, we did.
- 1:11:39Speaker 12: We did a good job with that. So again, twenty
- 1:11:43Speaker 12: point win. I'm not going to be unhappy about it.
- 1:11:45Speaker 12: We certainly have a lot that we can learn from the.
- 1:11:47Speaker 8: Tape, But we're gonna give God the glory.
- 1:11:50Speaker 12: For win number I don't even know twenty now twenty two,
- 1:11:54Speaker 12: and I don't know how mean we won in the league,
- 1:11:56Speaker 12: but eight and one, So we'll give God the glory
- 1:11:59Speaker 12: for that and get back home and try to get
- 1:12:03Speaker 12: ready for a home game on Thursday night.
- 1:12:05Speaker 8: This doesn't seem like we've been home very much.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: And it's an eight o'clock game, so I know you'll
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: want a big crowd out furs, no doubt. All right, Vic,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: thanks for attacking grats, all right, lord and took them morn.
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: Fic Shaver having no idea what day it is, who
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: they're playing.
- 1:12:19Speaker 8: All that.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: It tells you how immensed she should be, how immersed rather
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: he is in the opponent that he faces.
- 1:12:26Speaker 8: Okay.
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: Lasting from women's basketball game, Roy Harmon mentioned her effective
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: night five to seven, shooting thirteen points. She visited postgame
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: with Craig and Kathy.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: Was it the feeling that you guys felt like you
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: really could and should take the game right to them
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: right from the outset, because that's what it looked like.
- 1:12:44Speaker 13: Yeah, you know us, you always want to punch first,
- 1:12:46Speaker 13: and it was I think it was a little bit
- 1:12:48Speaker 13: of a slow start, like our defense was a little shaky,
- 1:12:51Speaker 13: but honestly, like we just want to perns first. We
- 1:12:54Speaker 13: had him pretty good in the first quarter. I think
- 1:12:57Speaker 13: we held him to nine in the second. So you know,
- 1:13:00Speaker 13: we're just trying to get better game by game.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: You've said that with Madison and with other weapons, you're
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: more than happy just to get the ball again them
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: and let them do their thing and score. Yet there
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: were several opportunities today, several times today where you went
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: in took it upon yourself. How much of that is
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: just the situation of what you're seeing from the opponent,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: and how much of it is knowing what you can
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: do against a certain opponent.
- 1:13:23Speaker 13: I think it's time and place. There's a time where
- 1:13:26Speaker 13: I can attack and maybe I can draw my defense
- 1:13:29Speaker 13: and kick it out to other teammates. And we have
- 1:13:32Speaker 13: so many threats on this team, and you can't not
- 1:13:35Speaker 13: saying nobody can't, but you can't do with all of
- 1:13:37Speaker 13: us at the same time. So I think when we
- 1:13:39Speaker 13: all stick to our role and do what we're on
- 1:13:42Speaker 13: the team for the in starting our role, I think
- 1:13:44Speaker 13: it looks really good and we're able to get all
- 1:13:46Speaker 13: those touches.
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: We shared the ball really well.
- 1:13:48Speaker 13: We had twenty two assists and I think we had
- 1:13:49Speaker 13: nineteen last game, So that was one of his key
- 1:13:52Speaker 13: keys to the games, just sharing the ball.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: And taking care of it as well. You didn't have
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: much in the way of turn know.
- 1:13:57Speaker 13: When I think about it, I think we had a
- 1:13:59Speaker 13: few offen of fouls and that really, you know, spikes
- 1:14:02Speaker 13: it up a little bit. But other than that, we
- 1:14:03Speaker 13: didn't just give them the ball, so.
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: It was good.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: It'd be nice to get a little rest before the
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: next game Thursday.
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm I'm good.
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I know.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: You've been saying you haven't been playing as many minutes,
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: so you feel good. I mean today was quite yet
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: four minutes.
- 1:14:17Speaker 13: And then the other day was quite some minutes, So
- 1:14:20Speaker 13: I think I'm in really good shape right now.
- 1:14:22Speaker 8: I'm feel good.
- 1:14:23Speaker 13: I just have to stay healthy, stand the weight room,
- 1:14:25Speaker 13: stay in the treatment room, and just understand that I
- 1:14:28Speaker 13: need to be able to perform even if it does
- 1:14:31Speaker 13: take forty minutes.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: It looks like it's working. Thanks Roy, appreciate it. Thank you,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: it certainly does.
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: Ray Arm starting to play a little bit more confident
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: down the stretch, jelling more with Matty Booker, who I
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: think she only played about twelve games for their last season,
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: and of course the additions of Jordan Lee Passed, bre
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: Preston and Kayla Olier. Texas takes on Vanderbilt Thursday night,
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: eight o'clock at the mood Up. Next Eric Henry from
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: Horns two four seven will stop, but I talk a
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: little Texas basketball football are schmanning to shard choice all
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: that and more as the final hour of The Craigway
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: Show continues on thirteen hundred. The zone.
- 1:15:14Speaker 5: Back to the Craigway Show. Connect with Craig through the
- 1:15:17Speaker 5: text line by texting Texas to eight one five three
- 1:15:20Speaker 5: zero followed by your message. Standard message and data rates
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: may apply.
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: On the back stretch of the day. Is Craigway Show
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: Cameron Parker filling in for Craig Way on this Monday afternoon,
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: and please to be joined by my good friend from
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: Horns two for seven, Eric Henry, who actually got to
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: see in Baton Rouge. Now, you made the trip to
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: Baton Rouge and the College station this past weekend, right?
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: Not many people did that?
- 1:15:47Speaker 14: Uh, Kim, No, believe it or not, I did not
- 1:15:49Speaker 14: make the trip to College so you were in seasons,
- 1:15:51Speaker 14: so just baton rouge. Yeah, with College Station for the
- 1:15:55Speaker 14: men's game earlier this this season. But no, that had
- 1:15:57Speaker 14: been a heck of a turnaround. But no, glad, to
- 1:16:00Speaker 14: be honest, you glad to be doing this in Austin.
- 1:16:02Speaker 14: I know you guys had a tough stretch trying to
- 1:16:04Speaker 14: get back to Austin. I'm sure that both of us
- 1:16:06Speaker 14: are happy to be back here in the Capitol.
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: Of Texas without a doubt, especially with this beautiful weather.
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: Let's start with some good news in the Texas football front.
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: It appears that running backs coach dshar Choice is going
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: to stay in Austin. He interviewed with the Dallas Cowboys
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: for the same position. Believe it or not, to join
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: that staff, he would actually have to take a pay cut,
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: not surprising. With Jerry Jones, Cowboys now are believe interviewing
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: Rashad Shamples, who also coached at Texas, he might be
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: willing to come to Dallas. But the good news here
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: Eric is that Texas looks like they're going to retain
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: their running backs coach. And also he's going to get
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: an extension too, and probably a pay increase.
- 1:16:44Speaker 14: Yeah, Yeah, It's funny you talk about the Cowboys still interviewing.
- 1:16:46Speaker 14: It looks as if they've made a decision going with
- 1:16:49Speaker 14: Derek Foster. Oh really, well, that certainly, yeah, that certainly
- 1:16:52Speaker 14: is the you know, Cowboys loss, but certainly Texas's game.
- 1:16:56Speaker 14: Here's the thing in my mind, it's funny you kind of,
- 1:16:58Speaker 14: you know, joked about it being a pay cut, right,
- 1:17:02Speaker 14: that would have been the situation a while. Listen, we
- 1:17:04Speaker 14: can get on the Cowboys or a marrit of things.
- 1:17:06Speaker 14: It goes to show just how much that Texas and
- 1:17:09Speaker 14: Company are really valuing their assistance.
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: They weren't afraid to go.
- 1:17:12Speaker 14: Out and make Kyle Flood, PK p Kukowski, and Jeff
- 1:17:16Speaker 14: Banks three of the highest paid coordinators in the nation.
- 1:17:21Speaker 14: With all those guys getting paid increases, which along with
- 1:17:23Speaker 14: Steve Sarkasian's pay increase that he's gotten over the last
- 1:17:26Speaker 14: two years, that now trickles down to Tashard choice, who's
- 1:17:29Speaker 14: going to be a highly coveted guy.
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: The reason I think it was cool two reasons. I'll say,
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: I think it's crucial.
- 1:17:33Speaker 14: One, you had to make it tough on tshard to
- 1:17:36Speaker 14: make that decision to leave.
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: It depends on what his aspirations are right.
- 1:17:39Speaker 14: If he has aspirations of being a coordinator or maybe
- 1:17:42Speaker 14: a head coach at at any level, then maybe you
- 1:17:45Speaker 14: make that decision. But financially speaking, he's got it great
- 1:17:48Speaker 14: here at Texas, which leads me into the second point,
- 1:17:51Speaker 14: which is, damn, he's done.
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: An excellent job with this room since he's been here.
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: Taken over.
- 1:17:56Speaker 14: Stan Drayden, of course, was part of Steve Sarkisian's initial staff.
- 1:18:00Speaker 14: Look no further than B. John Robinson, Rosehawn Johnson, Jonathan Brooks, CJ.
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: Baxter.
- 1:18:05Speaker 14: He gets the nation's number one recruit in his class,
- 1:18:08Speaker 14: and C. J. Baxter he goes down the position. While
- 1:18:11Speaker 14: for the run game was hit or missed this year,
- 1:18:14Speaker 14: you can't say in terms of development, in terms of talent,
- 1:18:17Speaker 14: that room is lacking any of that. With Contravian Weisner,
- 1:18:20Speaker 14: Jarret Gibson, the list goes on. So a huge you know,
- 1:18:23Speaker 14: a huge I don't say coup, but great for Texas
- 1:18:27Speaker 14: and c's Sarkisian to retain to j our choice of services.
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I would argue the opposite. Well, we
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: saw out of Trey Weisner. I mean, when Wiser came
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: to Texas, he was thought of as an add on
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: to John D. Cook in Wiser one thousand yard rusher
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: one the one of the best in all college football
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: in Jaydon Blue as well, and not just a running
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: back aspect, Eric, he's also a great recruiter outside of
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: the running back room.
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:18:52Speaker 14: No, listen again when you talk about it, and I
- 1:18:55Speaker 14: think here's something that goes a little bit understated, right,
- 1:18:58Speaker 14: Steve Sarkesian, And you know, you take a look look
- 1:19:00Speaker 14: at maybe Jeff Banks or p k or Kyle Flood.
- 1:19:04Speaker 14: They're not necessarily guys who have those quote unquote ties.
- 1:19:07Speaker 14: Although you know Kyle Flood did coach in Atlanta. Steve
- 1:19:09Speaker 14: Sarkisian coach at Alabama, don't necessarily have those ties to
- 1:19:13Speaker 14: the Southeast in the South. It we're going to be
- 1:19:16Speaker 14: major recruiting areas for Texas in the Southeastern Conference. That
- 1:19:20Speaker 14: was something I'll be honest with you, Camp prior to
- 1:19:22Speaker 14: the addition of Kenny Baker on this staff, I was curious,
- 1:19:25Speaker 14: how would they recruit Georgia, Florida, Alabama, you know those areas, Louisiana,
- 1:19:30Speaker 14: so on and so forth. Right, Because he lose a
- 1:19:32Speaker 14: Bo Davis both of course he replaced with Kenny Baker,
- 1:19:35Speaker 14: guys who kind of had more ties to the South
- 1:19:38Speaker 14: and the Southeast, to shard choice be able to go
- 1:19:40Speaker 14: into Florida get a CJ. Baxter of course has those
- 1:19:43Speaker 14: recruiting ties in Georgia, Kenny Baker as well. I think
- 1:19:46Speaker 14: we need take a look at this staff and kind
- 1:19:48Speaker 14: of the composition of it. Cam keeping to Shark choice
- 1:19:51Speaker 14: on the rosters, on the roster, on the staff, I
- 1:19:54Speaker 14: should say he it was a great back of the
- 1:19:56Speaker 14: time you going through on the roster, but keeping him
- 1:19:58Speaker 14: on the staff is key for that keeping those recruiting strongholds.
- 1:20:03Speaker 14: As Texas continues to compete for, you know, recruiting battles
- 1:20:07Speaker 14: in the SEC.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: You always think about player continuity and players returning after
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: a year. How about the coaching staff. I believe going
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: into this next season, Texas it's not losing any staff members.
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: And since Sark got here, it's been p k on
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: the defensive coordinator side, it's been Sark the offensive side
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: with Kyle Floods. So there's always gonna be roster turnover
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: every year. But the key for Sark and building this
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: program Eric is being able to keep his staff. And
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: there's there's been departures. You know, there's been guys who
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: have been fired or guys who had been kept on.
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: But for the most part, I believe Eric that Texas
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: going into twenty twenty five with most of their staff retained. Yeah, no,
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: you most of it.
- 1:20:50Speaker 14: Nearly all of it can and I appreciate the opportunity
- 1:20:52Speaker 14: to plug, you know, a cheap plug here art like
- 1:20:55Speaker 14: Jess published about ten minutes ago talking about did Texas
- 1:20:58Speaker 14: have a successful offseason and.
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: Part of that with staff retainment?
- 1:21:01Speaker 14: No, they retain all of their assistants, right, and you
- 1:21:04Speaker 14: talked about it. Listen, in today's college football, it's rare
- 1:21:07Speaker 14: if you're having success and you have talented coordinators to
- 1:21:10Speaker 14: bring back all three of those coordinators for a year five.
- 1:21:13Speaker 14: You talk about PK on the defensive side, Jeff Banks,
- 1:21:16Speaker 14: special teams, offensive coordinator, Kyle Flud.
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: Of course you reference Steve Sarkigan, you know, doing the
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: play calling.
- 1:21:21Speaker 14: But Kyle Flood, even from an offensive line perspective, is
- 1:21:24Speaker 14: huge to have him back in terms especially this year,
- 1:21:27Speaker 14: right with some of the turnover on the offensive line.
- 1:21:30Speaker 14: So getting those guys, you know, not having a college
- 1:21:33Speaker 14: team either, pursue them for head coaching jobs.
- 1:21:35Speaker 4: Or you know, throw arraise at them.
- 1:21:37Speaker 14: Look at Ohio State and Jim Knowles as an example, right,
- 1:21:40Speaker 14: so those things certainly are possible.
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: And then you go down with the position coaches.
- 1:21:44Speaker 14: Right, AJ Millerley to shard choice, Chris Jackson, Kenny Baker,
- 1:21:48Speaker 14: Johnny Nansen to bring all those guys back.
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: I think is huge.
- 1:21:52Speaker 14: So yeah, it gives me opportunity to do a chief
- 1:21:54Speaker 14: plug that article. Excuse me, go check it out on
- 1:21:57Speaker 14: Horn's twenty four to seven dot com. But especially in
- 1:21:59Speaker 14: today's coding landscape camp to be able to not only
- 1:22:02Speaker 14: financially compensate those guys, but keep that continuity for your players,
- 1:22:06Speaker 14: it's huge, and I don't think it gets talked about enough.
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: Quite Frankly, you mentioned Jim Knowles, the former Ohio State
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: defensive coordinator. Texas opens a twenty five season against Owaho
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: State August thirtieth, long ways away, but we're getting closer
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: by each second to Ohio State team Eric that now
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: will be without We'll have rather a different defensive coordinator,
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: a different offensive coordinator because Chipchelly has gone to the NFL. Well,
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: Howard will be gone. Their top two running backs, Travon
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: Henderson and Quinn Shawn Judkins will be in the NFL,
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: losing a Mecca Abuka, one of their all time leading
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: receivers in program history, pretty much a brand new offensive line,
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: pretty much a brand new defensive line. Gonna return obviously
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs. But looking at the twenty
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: twenty five matchup, Eric and of course Texas losing a
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: lot of key players as well, it kind of resembles
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: Michigan from this year, a team that will be rebuilding.
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: Cam.
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: I don't think you can, you know, dispute that.
- 1:23:05Speaker 14: And when you take a look at Ohio State and
- 1:23:07Speaker 14: some of their roster turnover, and as you talked about
- 1:23:09Speaker 14: the coaching turnover as well, I mean, listen, we still have,
- 1:23:13Speaker 14: you know, two hundred and some of the days. I
- 1:23:15Speaker 14: think we're still over two hundred days until August thirtieth.
- 1:23:19Speaker 14: In that matchup, and you go to the Horseshoe, and
- 1:23:21Speaker 14: like you said, it's a lot of similarities to the
- 1:23:23Speaker 14: Michigan team right talked about, Oh, you can't discount going
- 1:23:26Speaker 14: to the Big House and being in front of one
- 1:23:28Speaker 14: hundred thousand and so on and so forth, Right, I
- 1:23:30Speaker 14: think the same can be said about this matchup. In Texas,
- 1:23:33Speaker 14: of course, with the first time full time starting quarterback
- 1:23:36Speaker 14: in Arch Manning. And we'll see how some of the
- 1:23:38Speaker 14: things play out in the offseason. The thing that I'm
- 1:23:40Speaker 14: keeping my eye on is CJ. Baxter's recovery from that
- 1:23:44Speaker 14: knee injury. Can he be, you know, not just a
- 1:23:46Speaker 14: complimentary piece, but a focal point of this offense. One
- 1:23:50Speaker 14: year removed from that knee injury and still plenty of
- 1:23:52Speaker 14: things to work out. Most notably, I think you take
- 1:23:54Speaker 14: a look at receiver, you take a look at tight end.
- 1:23:56Speaker 14: The offensive live right, lost a lot of guys, whether
- 1:24:00Speaker 14: it's early departure over the NFL Draft or graduation. Need
- 1:24:03Speaker 14: to replace four guys for new starters. So we'll see
- 1:24:06Speaker 14: how that fears. But that's where to kind of tie
- 1:24:08Speaker 14: everything back together. I think the coaching continuity for Texas
- 1:24:12Speaker 14: is so key, right because of the fact that you
- 1:24:14Speaker 14: have all of your assistants coming back. You get that
- 1:24:17Speaker 14: ability to really develop talent. And I'm big on this camp.
- 1:24:21Speaker 14: I think, especially when it comes to offensive line and quarterback,
- 1:24:25Speaker 14: but specificit with offensive line, it's hard. You can't portal
- 1:24:29Speaker 14: an offensive line. Look no further than Oklahoma, who tried
- 1:24:32Speaker 14: to do it last year, right, That's not a cheap shot.
- 1:24:34Speaker 14: The Sooners, their offensive line plate just wasn't good because
- 1:24:37Speaker 14: they tried to bring in three and four guys from
- 1:24:38Speaker 14: the portal. We've had multiple offensive line coaches. That's a
- 1:24:42Speaker 14: technique position, that's a confidence position, and when you have
- 1:24:46Speaker 14: multiple voices who kind of taught you how to do something,
- 1:24:48Speaker 14: it's hard to have instant success in one year. So
- 1:24:51Speaker 14: I think what bodes well for Texas is bringing back
- 1:24:54Speaker 14: the assistance they had so that they can continue to
- 1:24:56Speaker 14: development with clearly a talented roster.
- 1:24:59Speaker 4: Talking with A Henry from Horns two four to seven.
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: Follow him on Twitter at Eric C Henry Underscore. Okay,
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: real quick, you mentioned Arch Manning. My social media feeds
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: have just been filled with all of the press arch
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: Manning has been doing with his new Red Bull deal.
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: Of course, sat down with Marty Smith from ESPN. I
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: think he did a thing with Complex Sports, maybe more.
- 1:25:20Speaker 4: I have not seen anything like this before. I mean,
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: the season ended less than a month ago and it's
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: already kind of been declared that arch Manning is the
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: face of college football and he seems like a very
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: mature kid. I'm not sure how many people could handle
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: the spotlight he's going to be in and what he's
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: already been through. But we're already seeing the beginning of
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: the arch Manning error at Texas. The cars has already
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: began on the football field. But it does seem like
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: even Texas kind of pushing him to be the face
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: of Texas and college football going forward.
- 1:25:53Speaker 14: Two things come to mind when you talk about kind
- 1:25:55Speaker 14: of the media blitz right that arch Manning is doing.
- 1:25:59Speaker 14: First off, was stated by his family right that they
- 1:26:01Speaker 14: wouldn't take any you know, nil deals outside of course,
- 1:26:04Speaker 14: the Panini training card deal, which of course he donated
- 1:26:08Speaker 14: the proceeds. So I believe Shriners if members break donated
- 1:26:11Speaker 14: for good cause. I don't want to misattribute where the
- 1:26:13Speaker 14: donation went to. But two things come to mind. One,
- 1:26:17Speaker 14: as a local reporter, I think the arch Manning media
- 1:26:21Speaker 14: availability is probably going to be dialed back a little
- 1:26:23Speaker 14: bit come football season. Right, They're gonna let Arch kind
- 1:26:25Speaker 14: of get it out of a system. Of course, he'll
- 1:26:27Speaker 14: do the regular you know, quarterback appearances that of course,
- 1:26:29Speaker 14: you know Quinn yours and others do. But I think
- 1:26:32Speaker 14: it's smart on Steve Sarkisian and in Texas's part to say, hey,
- 1:26:36Speaker 14: you know, get all this out of the way now, right,
- 1:26:38Speaker 14: you guys want to talk to Arch Manning.
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: We're still five six months away from the football season.
- 1:26:41Speaker 14: Let's get it out now, so you don't have at
- 1:26:43Speaker 14: least the national interest, right and nothing. I shouldn't say
- 1:26:46Speaker 14: that that's going to ever die down. You know, that's
- 1:26:48Speaker 14: just probably only increase when he touches the field. Right,
- 1:26:52Speaker 14: but let's se in terms of interview requests, kind of
- 1:26:53Speaker 14: get that out of the way now. The second thing
- 1:26:56Speaker 14: you talk about it, right, I'll never forget cam the
- 1:27:00Speaker 14: Sugar Bowl last year, right, you have the open media
- 1:27:03Speaker 14: availability and for the audience being I know how this works.
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: They did it there in the super Dome.
- 1:27:08Speaker 14: You know, you got one hundred and twenty yards to cover,
- 1:27:10Speaker 14: and I just remember seeing all of the starters who
- 1:27:13Speaker 14: had their own table, and you know, key assistants and
- 1:27:16Speaker 14: Ceve Sarcasian had their own table, but everyone else was
- 1:27:20Speaker 14: kind of just left to the side, right because they
- 1:27:21Speaker 14: weren't quote unquote essential, except for Arch Manning, who stepped
- 1:27:25Speaker 14: away from his teammates and sat on the visiting bench.
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: And there was a crowd.
- 1:27:30Speaker 14: I'm sure you can google this picture of maybe fifty
- 1:27:33Speaker 14: sixty media members all huddling this eighteen nineteen year old kid,
- 1:27:36Speaker 14: and to your point, camp you talk about how well
- 1:27:38Speaker 14: adjusted he is. I can't think of very many eighteen
- 1:27:41Speaker 14: nineteen year olds who could sit there and say, all right, shoot.
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: Have at it, you know what I mean, like camp
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: out about you.
- 1:27:46Speaker 14: But I would have trusted myself at eighteen or nineteen
- 1:27:49Speaker 14: years old, repeppered with all of those questions and be
- 1:27:52Speaker 14: confident that hey, he's okay, he can handle it.
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: But I think that comes with being a manning no doubt.
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: Let's end with this texts basketball at thirty one point
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: fire over LSU. On one hand, Eric, I thought that
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: second half some of the best basketball we've seen all
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: season from the team. One turnover the game at the
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: very end of the game, moved the ball very well,
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: season high performances from Kayden Shedrick in Tremond Mark. On
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: the other hand, it was a one win conference team
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: in LSU. What'd you make from that game? And what
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: do you think about Texas going forward as they near
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: five hundred play and have two winnable games up this week.
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: What did I make of the game?
- 1:28:27Speaker 14: Well, two things can be true, right, It doesn't have
- 1:28:30Speaker 14: to be all one thing or all the other things.
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: So two things can be true. One LSU clearly are
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: struggling team.
- 1:28:35Speaker 14: Matt McMahon that, I don't know, you want to call
- 1:28:37Speaker 14: it a rebuild, but they're struggling right with one and six,
- 1:28:40Speaker 14: one and seven now in conference play. The other thing
- 1:28:43Speaker 14: that can be true is Texas played an excellent second half.
- 1:28:47Speaker 14: I would say they played a solid first half. Would
- 1:28:49Speaker 14: have liked them to have closed the first half a
- 1:28:51Speaker 14: little bit better, especially with some of the struggles they
- 1:28:53Speaker 14: had against Ole Miss and they've had earlier this year.
- 1:28:55Speaker 14: But the defensive intensity, I mean tremon Mark limiting Cam
- 1:28:59Speaker 14: Carter that I think you'll had six points if memory
- 1:29:01Speaker 14: serves me correct in that game. Yeah, so you limited
- 1:29:04Speaker 14: one of the top scores in the SEC, a guy
- 1:29:06Speaker 14: who entered the game averaging eighteen points. And then also
- 1:29:09Speaker 14: just the emergence of some guys Cam, I mean, you're
- 1:29:12Speaker 14: with this team all year. I think this stretch of
- 1:29:15Speaker 14: games serves to be real crucial, not just because you're
- 1:29:18Speaker 14: facing Arkansas which has been struggling, although they certainly rattle
- 1:29:22Speaker 14: off a huge win for their former coach John Cala
- 1:29:24Speaker 14: Perry in Kentucky, and then you're facing Vanderbilt, a team
- 1:29:27Speaker 14: that's been up and down.
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: Now Blue still rank n we're twenty five.
- 1:29:31Speaker 14: But I think it's a crucial stretch because Devon Pryor
- 1:29:34Speaker 14: playing really good basketball nine points, six boards, cam if
- 1:29:37Speaker 14: he can emerge and just give you additional death be
- 1:29:40Speaker 14: an additional guy on this roster, especially a while Kendall
- 1:29:45Speaker 14: Weaver is hurt. But b if Kendall Weaver, I guess
- 1:29:47Speaker 14: it's if Slash when he does return. If you can
- 1:29:50Speaker 14: get that additional deaf to really athletic guys who can
- 1:29:53Speaker 14: guard the perimeter and make plays, I would say look
- 1:29:55Speaker 14: out for this Texas team. I think it was really
- 1:29:57Speaker 14: premature for some of the people who kind of wrote
- 1:29:59Speaker 14: them off. Yes, some of the early SEC games, the
- 1:30:02Speaker 14: losses were a little ugly. I should see litt dat.
- 1:30:04Speaker 14: You know, some of them were ugly, don't get me wrong.
- 1:30:06Speaker 14: But I think the way this team is developing, you
- 1:30:09Speaker 14: know the continuity of this roster that brought in so
- 1:30:12Speaker 14: many new guys and guys who had to figure out
- 1:30:14Speaker 14: their roles because you had guys who were primary scores
- 1:30:16Speaker 14: at their previous school. If this thing can kind of
- 1:30:18Speaker 14: start gelling and they can build some additional death. I'd
- 1:30:21Speaker 14: say look out for the Long Horns to be a
- 1:30:22Speaker 14: team that can finish top six in the SEC and
- 1:30:25Speaker 14: we'll see what, you know, kind of comes of that
- 1:30:27Speaker 14: in the future should they be able to keep that
- 1:30:29Speaker 14: momentum going.
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: He is Eric Henry from Horns two four seven. Check
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: out his work at Horns two four seven dot com
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: and follow him on Twitter at Eric c Henry Underscore.
- 1:30:38Speaker 4: Eric my man, good seeing it. I hope to see
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: you Wednesday night at the Mood. Absolutely can appreciate you
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: having on my man all right, Eric Henry to his
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: point about the early season schedule, we textas one of
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: five teams to face the number one and number two
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: team back to back ever ever inca history, and that
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: happened with a second week of conference plays. So yeah,
- 1:30:59Speaker 4: I think everyone knew that the schedule was front loaded.
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: Look how this team would respond in February, in March,
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: and a great opportunity this week to pick up two wins.
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: But we will see more than come here on the
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: Craigway Show, We're gonna go out to the west to
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: Pebble Beach and recap the first signature event, sorry, second
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: believe signature event of the twenty twenty five season. Roy
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: McElroy gets to win. How did a few Longhorns perform
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: in their PJ Tour season debuts up next year? On
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: Monday edition of The Craigway Show.
