- 0:05Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:08Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:15Speaker 1: bat We gets Unfiltered. Seymour is again of finalists. Is
- 0:20Speaker 1: what four years in our life think? So based on
- 0:22Speaker 1: who he's up against, he should get it. I should
- 0:25Speaker 1: get it. He should get him. I didn't even remember
- 0:27Speaker 1: what he was pushing. Now, Okay, yes, right, you're right.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I don't think you could say helmets. Well, are we
- 0:35Speaker 1: a king? I don't like the process. It's got to
- 0:39Speaker 1: be a better way, right, let me just do it.
- 0:41Speaker 1: But I hope he asked me. I'll tell you what
- 0:43Speaker 1: happens when the guys get up there and friends like,
- 0:45Speaker 1: who's who is that? I don't know him. If I
- 0:47Speaker 1: don't know, he shouldn't be induce and Dusseldorf, he's gonna
- 0:51Speaker 1: be our man, Onderstrasse. I have a wildlife calendar up
- 0:54Speaker 1: in my office area that the picture was of a tiger.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Flip the calendar over and it says February first, Chinese
- 0:59Speaker 1: New Year, Year of the Tiger. All these things are
- 1:02Speaker 1: coming together if the Bengals are gonna win. Wrong? Was
- 1:04Speaker 1: it a tiger calendar? And then I realized it's actually
- 1:07Speaker 1: a Tiger calendar is Patriots Unfiltered fueled by Duncan. All right,
- 1:14Speaker 1: welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Giles
- 1:18Speaker 1: Stadium in the Los Angeles Rams are your champions of
- 1:23Speaker 1: the NFL. The right team won, the good guys won.
- 1:26Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, I mean, good game. You know, I
- 1:32Speaker 1: was on a game. Good halftime, not the greatest ever,
- 1:36Speaker 1: but good and commercials were met. I'd agree overall. Um,
- 1:41Speaker 1: I just thought it was funny. Everyone was, Like I
- 1:43Speaker 1: asked Paul, I'm like, why didn't you tweet out that
- 1:45Speaker 1: this was the greatest halftime show? Because everyone as soon
- 1:47Speaker 1: as it happened. Oh, I mean I expected Moral to
- 1:51Speaker 1: do it because I know he loved it. Eminem could
- 1:53Speaker 1: just like literally have walked right through one for one
- 1:55Speaker 1: second and he would have been, like he said, like
- 1:57Speaker 1: there were easter eggs there that I had no I
- 1:59Speaker 1: wasn't even the best part when Drey sat at the
- 2:01Speaker 1: piano and did the rift to I ain't mad at
- 2:03Speaker 1: your own like, I had no idea what he was playing.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I I like, so it didn't mean as much to me,
- 2:07Speaker 1: but it was good. It was good, but you two
- 2:11Speaker 1: was still the best in my opinion, and I will
- 2:13Speaker 1: fight you if you disagree that. Two thousand and one right, yeah, Prince, Prince,
- 2:18Speaker 1: Prince was a lot of people mentioned Prince as you know,
- 2:21Speaker 1: their go to, but that you two one man chills chills.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I just that one stands alone for me, just because
- 2:28Speaker 1: there were so much more to it. Otherwise, it's just
- 2:30Speaker 1: kind of like music that's on while I get some food.
- 2:33Speaker 1: How much music can we fit into ten minutes? Right?
- 2:35Speaker 1: And it's a scramble and then they come out and
- 2:37Speaker 1: they play the hits and yeah, it's fine. So anyway,
- 2:41Speaker 1: the game was fine. Um, the game was okay. Uh.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You know a lot of people upset because the refs
- 2:46Speaker 1: inserted themselves at the end. It was all makeup because
- 2:50Speaker 1: they missed that they missed the face mask and they
- 2:53Speaker 1: were like, okay, that's seven points that we have to
- 2:55Speaker 1: make up, so they made sure that they did. Got
- 2:58Speaker 1: Logan Wilson with the defensive holding was a bad call.
- 3:02Speaker 1: The holding was the interference was a good call. I agree, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 1: but all it took was one one bad call. Right now,
- 3:11Speaker 1: there was like you said, that was not anywhere near
- 3:14Speaker 1: as bad of the call as the one they missed.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I know that gave him a seventy five yard touchdown. Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So anyway, Um, you know, good for the Rams, you know,
- 3:24Speaker 1: good for the league. Have that LA team winning, maybe
- 3:26Speaker 1: they can actually get some real fans. It's good for
- 3:29Speaker 1: stopping the narratives. Yeah, the Stafford narrative more but more
- 3:34Speaker 1: importantly the you can't do it that way narrative, which
- 3:38Speaker 1: I despise, as you know, because I go with the
- 3:41Speaker 1: Bill Belichick line of thought that there are a million
- 3:44Speaker 1: different ways to do it. Well you can't. You can
- 3:46Speaker 1: do it that way for a year or two. Five Yeah,
- 3:48Speaker 1: that's this, We're going on five for a year or
- 3:50Speaker 1: two you know. Okay, So yeah, at some point they
- 3:53Speaker 1: won't have a quarterback good enough to win it all,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and they won't be able to do it anymore because
- 3:58Speaker 1: I don't think Stafford's going to be there for twenty years. Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 1: That's the only way you sustain something like that is
- 4:03Speaker 1: if you get a quarterback who's great and he's there
- 4:06Speaker 1: for ten plus years, and then you can sustain it
- 4:10Speaker 1: for ten plush years. They won't, I agree with Fred.
- 4:12Speaker 1: They will not be able to sustain this because Stafford
- 4:14Speaker 1: will be gone and the chances of the next guy
- 4:16Speaker 1: coming in and being as good as Stafford. You forget
- 4:19Speaker 1: about Brady as good as Stafford. Yeah, the no look pass.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I didn't realize that at the time. It was a
- 4:26Speaker 1: no look pass. But now that you see it, the
- 4:29Speaker 1: cahonis to in that moment, glad you said that. To
- 4:33Speaker 1: be able to do that is I mean that play
- 4:36Speaker 1: alone should have got him MVP. Yeah, I mean that,
- 4:40Speaker 1: to to be able to have the confidence to do
- 4:42Speaker 1: that in that moment, that showed me a lot. Okay,
- 4:45Speaker 1: so I want to I'm glad you said this. Yeah,
- 4:48Speaker 1: and you know I love me some Stafford, Right, you
- 4:49Speaker 1: guys know where I go. He's your binkie. He's one
- 4:52Speaker 1: of my binkies, no question. That was dumb. Why did
- 4:56Speaker 1: he do that? Like, well, he was looking. I mean,
- 4:59Speaker 1: there's a this on Twitter, the guy I can throw
- 5:02Speaker 1: to his cup and I have to pretend that I'm
- 5:04Speaker 1: not throwing it to him, and why I suppose, But like,
- 5:08Speaker 1: wasn't it a little bit too much time to be
- 5:11Speaker 1: saying I'm gonna trust the fact that I'm gonna look
- 5:13Speaker 1: over there and assume von Bell is gonna bite and
- 5:16Speaker 1: move because he misses it by like less than a
- 5:20Speaker 1: yard and he completely bites for the the ie fake
- 5:23Speaker 1: like he's moving to his left as Stafford is looking left,
- 5:29Speaker 1: well to Stafford's right, right, Yeah, he's moving to von
- 5:33Speaker 1: Von Bell is moving to his left, and then all
- 5:35Speaker 1: of a sudden, he blindly throws it back. If what
- 5:38Speaker 1: if Bell didn't move as much and he and that's
- 5:42Speaker 1: you can't see him if you don't look like he could. Oh,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I mean, I just say it was an incredible play.
- 5:47Speaker 1: But I look at it, I was like, why did
- 5:49Speaker 1: you do that? That was homes Like what like? Why
- 5:55Speaker 1: like it too? He put the little tweets I like that.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I like that makes fun of himself. Yeah. Yeah. So
- 6:03Speaker 1: you know, now a lot of people are saying, even
- 6:09Speaker 1: your guy, the fact that the Bengals got that far
- 6:13Speaker 1: is a good thing for the Patriots because it shows
- 6:15Speaker 1: you eliminate them. No, it you know, because he didn't
- 6:19Speaker 1: think that Burrow played that great in the game, you know,
- 6:23Speaker 1: or even the game before, and that you know, you
- 6:26Speaker 1: can you can get there, you know with a guy
- 6:31Speaker 1: who isn't playing, you know, isn't you know who said
- 6:35Speaker 1: that's dumb? Yeah, because because Barrow played at an elite
- 6:38Speaker 1: level throughout the stretch drive and into the playoffs. Did
- 6:42Speaker 1: he play elite Sunday? No, Yeah, but don't tell me
- 6:45Speaker 1: you could just get there doing whatever, right. Yeah, that
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'll be surprised if they're not an outlier. I mean,
- 6:51Speaker 1: I think that they will. I think they're an outlier
- 6:53Speaker 1: for different reasons. I agree with they'll remain a good AFC,
- 6:57Speaker 1: you know, North team, but we all know what the
- 6:59Speaker 1: you know, what the bengalship does and how things tend
- 7:01Speaker 1: to go. And I think that that's unfortunate because you've
- 7:03Speaker 1: got a lot of young talent there. But I think
- 7:06Speaker 1: the bigger thing for me is just Paul's original point
- 7:09Speaker 1: that there's so many different ways to do it. And
- 7:11Speaker 1: you know, just because the Bengals went from nothing to
- 7:14Speaker 1: having a really great Super Bowl run this year, you know,
- 7:18Speaker 1: I just I think that's the league and every year
- 7:20Speaker 1: there's gonna be teams. Maybe there's a great team that
- 7:21Speaker 1: doesn't um you know. I just I think the Patriots
- 7:24Speaker 1: are their own thing, and I you know, I think
- 7:26Speaker 1: the point with Paul's too was just you know, trading
- 7:27Speaker 1: first round picks after first round picks, and you know,
- 7:30Speaker 1: that's not how they do things around here. But um,
- 7:34Speaker 1: I just I like that it's going to be this competitive.
- 7:36Speaker 1: But I just I think still look at the AFC landscape,
- 7:38Speaker 1: Joe Burrow is like one of many many problems to
- 7:41Speaker 1: think about. Oh yeah, and I think that the Bengals,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I'm with Mike. I just I don't trust the Bengals
- 7:47Speaker 1: to repeat it. I think that you can look at
- 7:50Speaker 1: them and you say, well, they get a decent defense,
- 7:53Speaker 1: they have some good young players on that side of
- 7:55Speaker 1: the ball. They have obvious young weapons on the offensive
- 7:58Speaker 1: side of the ball. What do they need offensive line?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Do you trust them to fix it? Like they have something?
- 8:06Speaker 1: They supposedly have tons of cash available, tons of cap space.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Do you think Mike Brown's gonna spend it? Like I
- 8:14Speaker 1: don't trust them to do it right? Number one and
- 8:17Speaker 1: number two? What do you what do you guys think
- 8:19Speaker 1: on the history element of guys teams that go to
- 8:24Speaker 1: the Super Bowl and lose their first time, I think
- 8:27Speaker 1: there's something to that. So in that regard, like if
- 8:31Speaker 1: they had won, like I would still have all of
- 8:34Speaker 1: my preconceived notions about the Bengals in their ineptitude, you know,
- 8:38Speaker 1: in Mike Brown's you know, frugal nature, to put it kindly. Yeah,
- 8:43Speaker 1: but if they had won, you'd say, well, they could
- 8:47Speaker 1: be a force to be reckoned with. But when they lose,
- 8:49Speaker 1: and I think, um, you're a guy Felger, you know, again,
- 8:53Speaker 1: not doing any research. Off the top of his head.
- 8:55Speaker 1: He goes, who's the last guy that lost their first
- 8:58Speaker 1: time that that ended up getting back in winning? And
- 9:02Speaker 1: he went all the way back to John Elway and
- 9:04Speaker 1: like the late nineties, right, Yeah, I've seen a lot
- 9:07Speaker 1: of Marino. Marino never went back. Yeah, like always the
- 9:11Speaker 1: first guy well and it took him a long time.
- 9:14Speaker 1: The last guy that lost the first time he went
- 9:16Speaker 1: and went back and won. Jim Kelly's I think the
- 9:19Speaker 1: last guy who lost the first time and even made
- 9:21Speaker 1: it back, you know. So like a guy like Garoppolo
- 9:24Speaker 1: tried to do that this year he lost his first time,
- 9:26Speaker 1: he tried to get back, he fell a game short. Um,
- 9:29Speaker 1: so I think that is a tough thing. But to me,
- 9:32Speaker 1: that's more circumstantial. It is. Yeah, And I see. I
- 9:35Speaker 1: mean I look at Kansas City as as still kind
- 9:37Speaker 1: of the standard in the AFC, and I mean that's
- 9:40Speaker 1: established code. There's a love gym at the top, and
- 9:42Speaker 1: the Patriots aren't in it. That's the problem, right, And
- 9:45Speaker 1: you know there's a lot of teams that you need
- 9:48Speaker 1: to get better than. Yeah, starting with with Buffalo and
- 9:52Speaker 1: Miami too, you know, who beat them twice this year.
- 9:54Speaker 1: But I mean, I think Buffalo has kind of proven
- 9:56Speaker 1: to me that in their division, it's it's there's two.
- 10:00Speaker 1: But then the league, why, it's a lot of jam
- 10:02Speaker 1: that they they're not part of right now. That's why
- 10:05Speaker 1: it's hard to get past thinking about Buffalo in Miami
- 10:07Speaker 1: at this point. But you know, I think Buffalo has
- 10:10Speaker 1: earned my respect though as far as you know, Cincinnati
- 10:12Speaker 1: young coach, they'd certainly have weapons. And I think when
- 10:15Speaker 1: you look at like Kansas City's offense, Kelsey Hill, Mahomes,
- 10:18Speaker 1: they've kind of kept it going with that core pieces
- 10:21Speaker 1: of change. But that and I think that Cincinnati could
- 10:23Speaker 1: do it. I think Buffalo has kind of done it.
- 10:26Speaker 1: They they've earned my respect over the last couple of
- 10:28Speaker 1: years of assistant getting better. Cincinnati, maybe they can do that,
- 10:32Speaker 1: but they have to they have to prove it to
- 10:33Speaker 1: me over there. Now. You mentioned the coach of the
- 10:36Speaker 1: Bengals in terms of comportment I thought he comported himself
- 10:40Speaker 1: better than McVay sheen. McVeigh was in full force. Did
- 10:44Speaker 1: you see the she like he was starting to yell it?
- 10:47Speaker 1: I see, I kind of disagree with you or I
- 10:49Speaker 1: think they both coached terrible games, by the way, but
- 10:51Speaker 1: that I'm just talking about comportment, like how they looked
- 10:53Speaker 1: on the sideline. Yeah, I feel like I would. I
- 10:55Speaker 1: thought was much more under control than he normally is.
- 10:58Speaker 1: He didn't have any other unless I did. I you know,
- 11:01Speaker 1: in full disclosure, I was at least eight middle of like,
- 11:04Speaker 1: oh boy by the half, so I may have missed it.
- 11:06Speaker 1: But did he have any of those like wild runs
- 11:09Speaker 1: down to the end zone to like tackle something? Now,
- 11:11Speaker 1: there weren't any of those, but he had the sheen
- 11:13Speaker 1: going well, so he's sweating. Yeah, So that means that
- 11:16Speaker 1: he was like it was like the hottest super Bowl
- 11:20Speaker 1: since like thirty years. McVeigh was going and you could
- 11:24Speaker 1: see like he was feeling it like well. I think
- 11:27Speaker 1: both coaches insisted on running the ball in early downs
- 11:30Speaker 1: way too way too much, and especially with Cincinnati I
- 11:35Speaker 1: think could hurt them. Cincinnati ran it better than the
- 11:37Speaker 1: Rams did, yeah, but not well enough to be content
- 11:41Speaker 1: to make it second and eight for Joe Burrow to
- 11:43Speaker 1: get killed the whole second half. Yeah, and that's what
- 11:45Speaker 1: kept happening. They would even then they would throw. Once
- 11:48Speaker 1: in a while, they would throw, like a pass on
- 11:49Speaker 1: first down for like six or seven yards, then they'd
- 11:51Speaker 1: run it to set up third and seven. You know,
- 11:53Speaker 1: it's like what are you doing? Yeah, just you know,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and they would obvious passing situations like we may fun
- 12:00Speaker 1: of the Patriots, you know, with the draws and the
- 12:02Speaker 1: half back screens of them, but that's what they kind
- 12:04Speaker 1: of needed to do. Yeah, you know, they needed to counter.
- 12:07Speaker 1: And I thought especially they were second half. I thought
- 12:09Speaker 1: the first half, like the halfback option terrific call. Yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 1: you know, like a good, good jump starter in the
- 12:15Speaker 1: red zone. No, you got to get in there. It
- 12:17Speaker 1: worked great. Obviously when the calls work, you know, big
- 12:20Speaker 1: great calls. I know how that works. But I thought
- 12:22Speaker 1: he showed some creativity early and in the second half,
- 12:25Speaker 1: you know, culminating with the third and one to have
- 12:28Speaker 1: p Ryan wismatise. He really liked that call to have
- 12:32Speaker 1: some IRG p Ryan in the game on third and
- 12:34Speaker 1: one with under a minute left in the in the
- 12:36Speaker 1: biggest game review of life to me, while Joe Mixon's
- 12:39Speaker 1: on the sideline. Yeah, just makes no sense. Yeah, I
- 12:42Speaker 1: mean that's and that's counter to what the Rams did.
- 12:44Speaker 1: At the end of the Rams, it was Cooper Cup.
- 12:46Speaker 1: We gotta go to Cooper Cup. I mean, that's how
- 12:48Speaker 1: we're gonna win this game. And they did it. Yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 1: that was the interesting part to McVeigh because I think
- 12:52Speaker 1: that was the adjustment he had to do in the
- 12:55Speaker 1: second half with you know, getting Stafford back on track
- 12:57Speaker 1: with just Cooper Cup and yeah, I mean Cup j
- 13:01Speaker 1: tore his aco. I guess you could just tell right
- 13:04Speaker 1: right in his eyes, like just as soon as it happened,
- 13:06Speaker 1: it was like, that's that's not good. Yeah, But they adjusted,
- 13:09Speaker 1: they overcame it, and you know they made the plays. Yep. Um,
- 13:13Speaker 1: So they had an open apology to Van Jefferson, Yeah,
- 13:16Speaker 1: who I thought had one of the most horrific games
- 13:18Speaker 1: I've ever seen him play. Then I found out that
- 13:21Speaker 1: maybe he was a little preoccupied because he had a
- 13:23Speaker 1: baby that he immediately left the game and right she
- 13:26Speaker 1: went into labor. His wife had to leave the game
- 13:29Speaker 1: mid game, so perhaps there were more important things on
- 13:32Speaker 1: his mind. So I want to give an open apology
- 13:35Speaker 1: to Van Jefferson. I don't think he played I think
- 13:36Speaker 1: he was waiting for it. He was. I don't think
- 13:37Speaker 1: he played very well in that game. Turning to the Patriots, UM,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I'm not sure if all this transpired since our last show,
- 13:44Speaker 1: but the brain drain, brain drain. Uh, yeah, there's more
- 13:47Speaker 1: more news in terms of that that Mike could come
- 13:50Speaker 1: down because Mike's good with the details. So Miche Lombardi
- 13:53Speaker 1: and uh and Carmen Briscilo both following Josh to the Raiders. Um,
- 13:57Speaker 1: I mean, and everyone's assuming that Bill's pissed, how did
- 14:01Speaker 1: they know that Josh didn't ask Bill, Hey, is it okay?
- 14:04Speaker 1: If I you know, plus if if if Josh want,
- 14:07Speaker 1: I mean, if Bill wanted Mick Lombardi, he would have
- 14:09Speaker 1: promoted them right right, And so you can't. I mean,
- 14:11Speaker 1: that's that one. I don't I don't see a problem
- 14:13Speaker 1: with if he's going to go somewhere and get a promotion,
- 14:15Speaker 1: And how can you especially hometown kind of kid, his
- 14:18Speaker 1: dad grew up, you know, working for the Raiders. I
- 14:21Speaker 1: don't know about the other guy. He was three years
- 14:24Speaker 1: and I mean it's only here three years. So that's
- 14:27Speaker 1: a little bit of that. That one's a little bit
- 14:29Speaker 1: of I think a little bit of a bind because
- 14:30Speaker 1: I mean you have Billy Yates in last year as
- 14:32Speaker 1: an assistant, but you know, you go from two years
- 14:34Speaker 1: ago you have two offensive line coaches. Right now you've
- 14:37Speaker 1: got none Um and then Bowhart agree was you know,
- 14:39Speaker 1: also went as the court but he's here one year.
- 14:41Speaker 1: So Briscilla will be the only one that maybe puts
- 14:44Speaker 1: them in a little bit of a bar. See how
- 14:46Speaker 1: you like? Oh, I wonder how that relationship is now
- 14:48Speaker 1: Josh and Billy. I don't think there's anything wrong with
- 14:51Speaker 1: that really, I mean I don't know it, but certainly
- 14:53Speaker 1: not for Mick Lombardi. Yeah. But yeah, that's and it's
- 14:58Speaker 1: potentially five offensive coach with heart degree Lombardi, Brisilo, Um
- 15:05Speaker 1: and then Ivan Fierce is likely retiring and who's the
- 15:09Speaker 1: one I'm missing, oh and Josh. Yeah, so you're missing
- 15:13Speaker 1: five offensive coaches off of what you had to end
- 15:16Speaker 1: the year, and as of right now, all you've added
- 15:19Speaker 1: is Joe Judge. Ye. I'm not gonna say it's not
- 15:22Speaker 1: an issue that was my notes today. Yeah, it's it's
- 15:24Speaker 1: definitely that's Priority Number one is how do we you know,
- 15:30Speaker 1: keep the progression of mac Jones going on an upward
- 15:34Speaker 1: you know, conjectory. And there's not really an offensive guru
- 15:38Speaker 1: on the staff anymore. There's nobody that you know, really
- 15:41Speaker 1: intrigues you. As some might say, it's not ideal, not
- 15:44Speaker 1: ideal um. But I you know, one one quick thought
- 15:47Speaker 1: on Nic Lombardi is just I wonder if you know,
- 15:50Speaker 1: maybe it was all straightforward Josh went said, I want
- 15:53Speaker 1: you to be the offensive coordinat It sounds great, but
- 15:55Speaker 1: I also wonder if there was some kind of you know,
- 15:58Speaker 1: taking stock of what's going on here, and you know, no,
- 16:00Speaker 1: we're not going to promote you or this is how
- 16:02Speaker 1: it's going to be. We're going to keep you in
- 16:04Speaker 1: the quarterback or the wide receiver's position. And you know,
- 16:07Speaker 1: maybe he didn't like what he heard the plan was here.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Maybe that maybe not. Maybe it was just full the
- 16:13Speaker 1: pull to the raiders. But just one you know, I
- 16:16Speaker 1: don't know if you remember this, Fred, but on Friday,
- 16:18Speaker 1: the three of us talked. Sometimes guys we talk off
- 16:21Speaker 1: their yeah I believe it or not, but briefly, and
- 16:24Speaker 1: remember I made the comment to you and I picked
- 16:26Speaker 1: the wrong guy. But I was wondering if there were
- 16:29Speaker 1: more departures to come with the offensive coaches because of
- 16:34Speaker 1: the Joe Judge higher. I thought that might lead and
- 16:37Speaker 1: I thought Nick Cayley, who I thought was here a
- 16:40Speaker 1: little bit longer. I thought that might lead him to
- 16:43Speaker 1: maybe say, I've hit a ceiling here. I'm not I'm
- 16:46Speaker 1: not moving up right. I mean, the tight ends coach
- 16:49Speaker 1: for four or five years now, I have no upward mobility.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Turned out it was Mick Lombardi, and I don't know
- 16:54Speaker 1: that he thinks like that. Like Mike just said, he
- 16:56Speaker 1: explained it. Maybe he was just looking too he had
- 17:00Speaker 1: an opportunity and he took it, or maybe he looked
- 17:03Speaker 1: at it as like I thought I was going to
- 17:05Speaker 1: have a chance to be the offensive coordinator here. Clearly
- 17:08Speaker 1: they don't think that. I need to see he does.
- 17:12Speaker 1: You know, for all we know, Nick Kaylee does have
- 17:15Speaker 1: that opportunity. Maybe BILLI said, yeah, you're gonna be the
- 17:18Speaker 1: offensive you know he could be. Joe is gonna come
- 17:21Speaker 1: in and help you, and you know who knows, and
- 17:24Speaker 1: a lot of people and I know Mike reached through
- 17:26Speaker 1: this out on Sunday. Um I read this early morning
- 17:29Speaker 1: Sunday about Matt Patricia. You know, I guess there's some
- 17:33Speaker 1: league personnel. I don't know what exactly that means. They're
- 17:36Speaker 1: gonna have to make fun of Mike for that when
- 17:38Speaker 1: I see him next week. That's sort of a nebulous
- 17:40Speaker 1: league personnel term. That could be Martha at the booth.
- 17:44Speaker 1: They believe they believe that Matt Patricia may be coming
- 17:47Speaker 1: back to more of a coaching role in focusing on offense.
- 17:51Speaker 1: I think it's speculation. I mean, I would make me
- 17:54Speaker 1: feel any bed about this. I don't know, I know nothing,
- 17:57Speaker 1: but I would say that he's his path is more
- 18:01Speaker 1: toward the GM. If you told me that they wanted
- 18:04Speaker 1: to have Patricia returned to a coaching role and he's
- 18:06Speaker 1: going to head up the defense, I'd be fine with that.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I just think asking him to be more focused on
- 18:12Speaker 1: offense is the same of what they have guys who've
- 18:15Speaker 1: never really done it. Yep, yeah, you know, and maybe
- 18:18Speaker 1: he's excellent at it, I don't know, but he's never
- 18:20Speaker 1: really done an offense. Well, he's worked on, you know,
- 18:22Speaker 1: as an offensive line assistant coach. On your show yesterday,
- 18:27Speaker 1: Jimmy Stewart, who had he sometimes gets inside info on
- 18:31Speaker 1: his phone. Yes, he said that he heard that Adam
- 18:36Speaker 1: Gase was at a lot of Patriots practices last year,
- 18:42Speaker 1: So that's I'm citing the source. But he didn't. It
- 18:46Speaker 1: was a producer on Paul's show that said he was
- 18:50Speaker 1: told that Adam Gase was at a lot of Patriots practices. Well,
- 18:54Speaker 1: I did not see him. Who wasn't there? He wasn't.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Maybe perhaps you're not really the guests that much, but
- 19:02Speaker 1: I would. I would, I would fully embrace that. I
- 19:04Speaker 1: think that's what they need. I mean, I just I
- 19:06Speaker 1: think they need to name my offensive. I know it's overrated,
- 19:09Speaker 1: but I'm with Mike. And the bigger picture of it, though,
- 19:13Speaker 1: is just that, like right now, it feels like it's
- 19:15Speaker 1: all setting up to drive Patriot fans absolutely apoplectic about there,
- 19:19Speaker 1: you know, being no real coordinators. It's just kind of
- 19:23Speaker 1: Bill winging it now. You know, we don't want him
- 19:25Speaker 1: to get spread too thin. You talk about total turnover
- 19:28Speaker 1: offensive coaching staff, the defense that they've got their own problems.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Special teams they got problems too, So I would. I
- 19:34Speaker 1: would love to get an experienced coaching that would at
- 19:36Speaker 1: least give you, on one side of the ball a
- 19:39Speaker 1: sense of all right, we that like Josh can handle
- 19:41Speaker 1: you know, that's how it was last year, Like you know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: at least one part even if I mean, and I
- 19:45Speaker 1: don't want to say that Judge is going to go
- 19:47Speaker 1: into the special teams, but like I just think you
- 19:48Speaker 1: need to take stuff off of Bill's plate. And the
- 19:50Speaker 1: same point is that you know, Patricia slipped into that
- 19:53Speaker 1: like Nick Kassario Ernie Adams role last year. So I
- 19:56Speaker 1: don't think he'd just go pulling him right out of
- 19:58Speaker 1: that right away. I mean that feels like an important
- 20:01Speaker 1: kind of job. Does that need is I was gonna say,
- 20:03Speaker 1: does that would that be a job that would need
- 20:05Speaker 1: to be filled by somebody that like I don't know,
- 20:08Speaker 1: you might yea from from what I've heard, he's made
- 20:12Speaker 1: too much. He's put too much of his own um
- 20:14Speaker 1: fingerprints on the personnel. Okay, operations where well you just
- 20:20Speaker 1: don't pull away from that like hires and you know
- 20:22Speaker 1: people we do we never even heard of or would
- 20:25Speaker 1: never be an a media guy like he's building up
- 20:27Speaker 1: that department. What's what's that kid that he took from Detroit?
- 20:30Speaker 1: Evan uh uh Rostein Rothstein, Yeah, it sounds right, you know.
- 20:35Speaker 1: So like he's done too much in that area where
- 20:38Speaker 1: you're not just going to pull away from that. You know,
- 20:40Speaker 1: that's something he's building, you know, So yeah, that's I
- 20:44Speaker 1: think you're probably right. Yeah, but say since some regard
- 20:47Speaker 1: and like I do feel to an extent that Matt
- 20:49Speaker 1: Patricia and Joe Judge just get a bum rap because
- 20:52Speaker 1: how many times does a coach fail at at at
- 20:54Speaker 1: another job and they're a punchline. It's just that's what
- 20:57Speaker 1: always happens. And you know, it's just it takes an
- 21:00Speaker 1: amount of you know, I guess confidence or whatever that
- 21:02Speaker 1: Belichick has that he's able to bring those guys back,
- 21:04Speaker 1: and you know, it's just unfortunate that I think that
- 21:07Speaker 1: they have earned in their whole head coaching stints. You
- 21:11Speaker 1: know that some questionable decisions, play calls, acquisitions, all that
- 21:15Speaker 1: goes into coaching, and you know, I think that's what
- 21:17Speaker 1: player people are kind of reacting to that they're back,
- 21:20Speaker 1: instead of saying, like, I know that's part of their
- 21:22Speaker 1: experience as head coaches, but they were also here for
- 21:24Speaker 1: a long time. And when you keep hearing every brain
- 21:27Speaker 1: during brain draining, like these guys are brains that have
- 21:29Speaker 1: been around here that one championships that know what they're doing.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I know it wasn't great maybe in their head coaching stints,
- 21:34Speaker 1: but that doesn't mean that they don't they can't bring
- 21:36Speaker 1: some value back. But I think the bigger point though,
- 21:38Speaker 1: is just that they don't seamlessly fit into what you're
- 21:40Speaker 1: doing now. So there's just you bring Joe Judge back.
- 21:43Speaker 1: That'd be great if you're making them, you know, the
- 21:44Speaker 1: special teams coordinator, but now he's on offense and everybody's like,
- 21:47Speaker 1: well remember that third down that they did the quarterback.
- 21:49Speaker 1: You know they have that right there to go. So
- 21:52Speaker 1: I just I think they get a bum rap. But again,
- 21:55Speaker 1: I just I think they need to continue to add
- 21:56Speaker 1: I think they need some established coaches and maybe some
- 21:59Speaker 1: outside perspectives. I know that was a big buzz line
- 22:01Speaker 1: last year to bring, you know, make it more collaborative.
- 22:03Speaker 1: But I just think it's always good to have some
- 22:05Speaker 1: fresh faces in. You got maybe a guy maybe Adam
- 22:07Speaker 1: Gaze wasn't Patriots practice and saw mac Jones last I
- 22:10Speaker 1: would feel better about Adam Gayze coming here, yeah, than
- 22:12Speaker 1: I do about Judge in Patricia being on the on
- 22:15Speaker 1: the coaching staff. And I know what your point is,
- 22:17Speaker 1: about I would the bad rap, but I mean just
- 22:21Speaker 1: to ask yourself, like, what did you think of Matt
- 22:24Speaker 1: Patricia's as a defensive coordinator? Yeah, I don't think most
- 22:27Speaker 1: people thought he was great as a defensive coordinator. And
- 22:29Speaker 1: I think especially the contrast of his last year and
- 22:34Speaker 1: the way the Super Bowl unfolded to Flores when he
- 22:37Speaker 1: came in the next year and it was like night
- 22:40Speaker 1: and day, I think most people were like, Wow, coaching
- 22:43Speaker 1: had something to do with that. And now he's back,
- 22:46Speaker 1: you know, in Joe Judges back. I don't I don't
- 22:48Speaker 1: really think that people thought all that highly of him.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I just would wonder if Joe Judge didn't get hired
- 22:54Speaker 1: by the Patriots, I think anybody would have hired him
- 22:56Speaker 1: in the NFL or anything other than special teams. No,
- 23:00Speaker 1: I don't think so either. Yeah, I don't think anybody
- 23:03Speaker 1: would have made him a coordinator. Yeah, all right, eight
- 23:07Speaker 1: five five Ticket Hotline web radio at Patriots dot com
- 23:11Speaker 1: is the email address. What did you think of the
- 23:13Speaker 1: coverage of the Super Bowl, like, you know, Al Michael's
- 23:17Speaker 1: and Collingsworth and the pregame and all that stuff. Yeah,
- 23:20Speaker 1: I don't know, it was fine. I didn't really hear.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I couldn't really hear any of the were popping, but
- 23:26Speaker 1: the Miller lights like oh yeah, but I mean like
- 23:29Speaker 1: the Russians were in saga. I thought the venue looked amazing,
- 23:32Speaker 1: and I think it's it's the perfect kind of cap
- 23:34Speaker 1: to the season having you know, as we said, the
- 23:37Speaker 1: weather was beautiful and just such a beautiful stadium. I
- 23:40Speaker 1: mean that little pond they have out in front, I mean,
- 23:42Speaker 1: just every it's quite a it was well, it's it's
- 23:46Speaker 1: all that part of it's well done. Um, you know.
- 23:48Speaker 1: As far as like new interesting stuff, I didn't really
- 23:50Speaker 1: get a lot of Wow that was cool. How they did?
- 23:53Speaker 1: You know, sometimes the Super Bowl has those like you know,
- 23:55Speaker 1: random cameras or things that they do that little technology pumps. Yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't really catch any any of that.
- 24:02Speaker 1: It's just I don't overall, the game just felt and
- 24:04Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe that's because it wasn't really rooting
- 24:06Speaker 1: for anybody in a like active interest really, I just
- 24:09Speaker 1: kind of was more focused on food and drink. From myself,
- 24:12Speaker 1: I don't like the game as much when he has
- 24:14Speaker 1: no vested interest. I just felt like there was no
- 24:17Speaker 1: juice today. I thought the rock intro was stupid. Yeah. Uh,
- 24:21Speaker 1: Rodney Harrison dropped a bomb before the game talking. He
- 24:24Speaker 1: was the one that started the whole Aaron Donald. If
- 24:27Speaker 1: he wins, he's gonna quit talk. I don't know if
- 24:30Speaker 1: he's talking out of school or making it up or what,
- 24:32Speaker 1: but he's the one that started that. Rodney better. I
- 24:35Speaker 1: hope he wasn't talking out of school. I wouldn't want
- 24:37Speaker 1: to be on that guy's bat No, yeah, so yeah, okay,
- 24:42Speaker 1: yeah Mayo commercial. I thought they kind of ripped off
- 24:44Speaker 1: that he t office linebacker right down to like the whip.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I was that was the most surprising one. I had
- 24:50Speaker 1: no idea he did that. I mean, that's like a
- 24:53Speaker 1: day that you have to take, you know, to do
- 24:56Speaker 1: to shoot that. It's not like you go show up
- 24:58Speaker 1: for a couple of hours. He took him like thirteen
- 25:00Speaker 1: years to realize, Yeah, he's out of the league and
- 25:02Speaker 1: he coaching. Now. Another that was I was shocked to
- 25:06Speaker 1: see that him in that commercial. Yeah, it was funny.
- 25:09Speaker 1: He's he's he's got a good sense. He Mayo has
- 25:12Speaker 1: a good personality. But again I would direct people back
- 25:14Speaker 1: to Terry Tate office linebacker, which I mean, was that
- 25:17Speaker 1: was very funny when it came up, and I mean
- 25:19Speaker 1: they still had the every It was very similar. Tip
- 25:21Speaker 1: Tip used to do that in the kitchen. After that,
- 25:24Speaker 1: he didn't probably, yeah, Terry Tate, that was Mayo. Oh yeah,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I got you. Yeah, Uh, I didn't. Yeah, I have
- 25:37Speaker 1: to sort of catch a lot of this stuff because
- 25:40Speaker 1: I just, yeah, I didn't really pay much attention to
- 25:43Speaker 1: the commercials and like you're asking about the production of
- 25:46Speaker 1: the game itself, I didn't really notice a lot of that,
- 25:49Speaker 1: just kind of watching the pictures as they go, you
- 25:51Speaker 1: know what I mean. I was, you're not watching the
- 25:52Speaker 1: game that I was, you know, I was focused. Yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 1: what did you think? I thought? I thought NBC did
- 25:59Speaker 1: a really good job with the game. I thought al
- 26:02Speaker 1: Michaels had a good, good call. Collinsworth was good. You know.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I didn't like that they didn't really talk about that
- 26:09Speaker 1: that holding call, Like they're watching the replay and like
- 26:12Speaker 1: you clearly see and the replay there's not much there. Well,
- 26:15Speaker 1: they didn't really say, oh, that's a bad call. No,
- 26:17Speaker 1: they want you to tell me it's a bad call.
- 26:18Speaker 1: They did. They had a long pause and then Collinsworth
- 26:21Speaker 1: was like, I don't see it. Yeah, yeah, not much there.
- 26:24Speaker 1: I mean I think you said there wasn't much there. Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 1: like that, like, no, tell me it's a bad call. Like, well,
- 26:29Speaker 1: I got annoyed. I don't know if you guys caught
- 26:31Speaker 1: and Matt had this in the in the show sheet today.
- 26:33Speaker 1: You guys don't pay attention to this though I read
- 26:35Speaker 1: the show I do. Mattum he had the link to
- 26:39Speaker 1: the pool report from the post super Bowl and they
- 26:41Speaker 1: asked about that the t Higgins play, and I just
- 26:46Speaker 1: sort of incredulous that that Ron Tolbert could say that
- 26:50Speaker 1: they didn't feel like there was a polling grab on
- 26:52Speaker 1: the face. Matt. I mean the whole play happened because
- 26:54Speaker 1: the receiver ripped the defensive back down by the face. Yeah, like,
- 26:58Speaker 1: I mean it was offensive apparence. Did you get about
- 27:01Speaker 1: did you see it in real time? Yes? See, I
- 27:03Speaker 1: I didn't realize it, and then they showed It's like,
- 27:06Speaker 1: oh that's what like like real time. I didn't know
- 27:09Speaker 1: about the face mask real time, right, that's what I'm
- 27:11Speaker 1: talking about. He reaches out and knocks him down. You
- 27:13Speaker 1: could see that clear his day. That's offensive passing efference
- 27:16Speaker 1: forget about like face mask. And then to see it, like, oh,
- 27:21Speaker 1: they didn't even have to say the guy took a dive.
- 27:23Speaker 1: He grabbed him by the face, Like, I don't know
- 27:27Speaker 1: how they missed that call, and then to double down
- 27:29Speaker 1: on it and say that they didn't think it met
- 27:31Speaker 1: the level of face mask because there was no pulling
- 27:34Speaker 1: grab or something like that. Actually what it was twisting
- 27:37Speaker 1: grab by the face and pulled him down and pulled him.
- 27:40Speaker 1: He pulled him. Yeah. I think the thing that bugged
- 27:42Speaker 1: me just about the Wilson holding call was like, this
- 27:45Speaker 1: is a linebacker that kind of cover cooper call. That
- 27:48Speaker 1: was a bad if you can't even like touch him, Yeah,
- 27:52Speaker 1: that was what he supposed to do. What are you
- 27:53Speaker 1: supposed to do? Yea? And that would have set up
- 27:55Speaker 1: fourth and goal, right, that was the third I think
- 27:58Speaker 1: that was third down, and I think that would set
- 28:00Speaker 1: up fourth and goal from the eighth, which is a
- 28:02Speaker 1: low percentage play. Now they you know, unlike most people
- 28:05Speaker 1: that are talking about it, the game would not have
- 28:07Speaker 1: been then been over. The Rams had all three time outs, right, yeah,
- 28:10Speaker 1: so they still would have been able to you know,
- 28:13Speaker 1: force a punt, which they had done constantly throughout the
- 28:15Speaker 1: second half, and had a chance to go back, but
- 28:17Speaker 1: certainly made life easier once they had that first and
- 28:20Speaker 1: I knew they were going to score. But then I
- 28:22Speaker 1: thought Burrow was gonna do it. I thought he was
- 28:25Speaker 1: gonna get in position for those three, but they just
- 28:28Speaker 1: couldn't figure out Aaron Donald, did you see? And I
- 28:30Speaker 1: hate these still shots, you know, I don't like this.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I don't think still shots tell you a whole lot
- 28:35Speaker 1: about what goes on in an NFL game. But the
- 28:38Speaker 1: one on that last play that they showed that Jamar
- 28:42Speaker 1: Chase was was pretty oh yeah. But by that I
- 28:45Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know if if the coverage sort
- 28:48Speaker 1: of read the pressure, no, but you can came up.
- 28:50Speaker 1: You could see Burrow he's no position to throw the ball. No,
- 28:53Speaker 1: I know, but it was that why Chase got open
- 28:56Speaker 1: right right right right? Or if there was say, well
- 28:59Speaker 1: the guy fell down just okay, this defender was on
- 29:02Speaker 1: the ground, but he felt like it wasn't because of it.
- 29:04Speaker 1: He felt half fell down. So yeah, it's too bad
- 29:07Speaker 1: because that would have been dramatic. Yeah, last one up
- 29:11Speaker 1: like Brady to Randy Moss at the end. Can you
- 29:13Speaker 1: imagine I'd love to see a super Bowl like that, though,
- 29:16Speaker 1: with the last second bomb to like come from behind
- 29:21Speaker 1: the other coach gets fired. Let's go let that happen
- 29:24Speaker 1: coverage five five Ticket outline web radio at Patriots dot
- 29:29Speaker 1: com is the email address. Uh, let's go to the
- 29:32Speaker 1: Ace ticket out line. Kathy is on the line. What's up, Kathy? Kathy? Ah?
- 29:40Speaker 1: Oh not there? You can call back? Uh, Chris with
- 29:43Speaker 1: a T I A N Hey Christian, Hey, guys, what's happening? Nothing?
- 29:48Speaker 1: What did you do to Kathy? She got in front
- 29:52Speaker 1: of me. Okay, so she'll call back later. Warri um
- 30:00Speaker 1: I did have a question about this upcoming off season
- 30:05Speaker 1: and as far as getting UM players in particular through
- 30:09Speaker 1: the draft and you know, guys that are ready to
- 30:12Speaker 1: contribute right away. And I finished Mike's UM and Matt's
- 30:18Speaker 1: two thousand and one Odyssey was great, by the way
- 30:20Speaker 1: that that last episode to wrap everything up, and you know,
- 30:24Speaker 1: Poldi's in there at nauseum throughout the series talking about
- 30:28Speaker 1: the type of players that they wanted to get that year,
- 30:31Speaker 1: and it was not going to be players that we're
- 30:34Speaker 1: going to be at the top of everybody's free agent list,
- 30:36Speaker 1: but they we're gonna be guys that they were going
- 30:37Speaker 1: to bring in that they were going to coach up.
- 30:40Speaker 1: And now you don't have the really the coaching to
- 30:43Speaker 1: coach it up. Understanding that you have Bill, but back
- 30:46Speaker 1: then you had Charlie, you had Romeo. You know, you
- 30:49Speaker 1: had just the slew of experienced guys. And now I
- 30:54Speaker 1: feel like it's so important to get talented guys that
- 30:57Speaker 1: can come in right away and that athletic ability can
- 31:01Speaker 1: can take over and then they can they can learn.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I wanted to get your thoughts on that. You know,
- 31:06Speaker 1: we can't like reach for these guys anymore in the
- 31:08Speaker 1: second or third round and and project you know, two
- 31:12Speaker 1: to three years, like you got these guys that can
- 31:14Speaker 1: come in and help right away. Do you do you
- 31:15Speaker 1: agree with that? I do to a point. I think
- 31:20Speaker 1: that we've talked a lot about the Patriots dominance allowed
- 31:26Speaker 1: Belichick to take chances in the draft, some of which
- 31:29Speaker 1: paid off wildly. You know, just think about Gronk and Hernandez.
- 31:33Speaker 1: You know, Gronk for health reasons, Hernandez for a lot
- 31:37Speaker 1: of other reasons, were guys that the Patriots could afford.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Now they could have drafted those guys, and Gronk could
- 31:42Speaker 1: have just as easily been Rossi dolling right. You could
- 31:45Speaker 1: have been a second round pick whose injuries prevented them
- 31:47Speaker 1: from ever doing anything, and the Patriots would have been,
- 31:51Speaker 1: you know, still in contention for super Bowls every year
- 31:55Speaker 1: because of the structure they had with the greatest quarterback
- 31:57Speaker 1: who's ever played. But you able to do that, I
- 32:00Speaker 1: don't to Christian's point, I'm not sure you can take
- 32:03Speaker 1: a guy like that now early in the draft. I mean,
- 32:05Speaker 1: you can take flyers late in the draft like like
- 32:07Speaker 1: everybody else thinks, but you can't invest a first or
- 32:10Speaker 1: second round picking a guy who you're you're not sure
- 32:14Speaker 1: is going to be healthy enough or well will be
- 32:16Speaker 1: you know, staying out of trouble. Yeah. Well, the Alabama
- 32:19Speaker 1: receivers jump to mind, because I mean, I think that's
- 32:21Speaker 1: a popular one right now with Williams and Metchi that
- 32:24Speaker 1: two guys the tore A cls that you know that
- 32:27Speaker 1: and I think some people still think that way of
- 32:29Speaker 1: this is how you get a guy like you know,
- 32:31Speaker 1: who might potentially be a top ten picky at towards
- 32:33Speaker 1: a cl but you might have to wait till next year. Yeah,
- 32:35Speaker 1: I don't know. See now I would take a shot
- 32:38Speaker 1: and it got like I think Metchi, if you get
- 32:41Speaker 1: him in the second round, like, I think that's fine,
- 32:44Speaker 1: Like because to me, it torn a c L is
- 32:45Speaker 1: not the same as a back problem. Like there's there's
- 32:48Speaker 1: no real evidence that Metchi and Williams will not be
- 32:51Speaker 1: able to play in the NFL. Like there was a
- 32:53Speaker 1: chance that people people had doubts that Gronk would ever
- 32:55Speaker 1: be able to play, you know what I mean, Like
- 32:58Speaker 1: he missed his whole last year at Arizona. I mean
- 33:01Speaker 1: even easily had what multiple easily had multi multiple twenty
- 33:04Speaker 1: acls and again first round, Like I'd rather not take
- 33:07Speaker 1: I'd rather not take a guy in the first round
- 33:09Speaker 1: that I have to Richard. And I think that those
- 33:11Speaker 1: two Alabama receivers will be pretty close to red shirts.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I think they got they got they toilet recls very late. Yeah,
- 33:17Speaker 1: you know in the last guy, I mean that was
- 33:20Speaker 1: like what January thirteenthish or something like that. Yeah, you
- 33:24Speaker 1: know it's like O BJ right now, you're gonna sign
- 33:26Speaker 1: him in free agency, like he's probably not going to
- 33:29Speaker 1: be ready to go same knee too, yeah, second time. Yeah,
- 33:33Speaker 1: And I was talking to one of our guys who
- 33:36Speaker 1: played football at a relatively high level in college, and
- 33:39Speaker 1: he blew out his knee and he said that, you know,
- 33:41Speaker 1: there's three ways to do it, and one of them is,
- 33:44Speaker 1: you know, you take a piece of the hamstring. But
- 33:46Speaker 1: once you do that, you can't really do it again,
- 33:49Speaker 1: you know, so then you have to go to cadaver route,
- 33:52Speaker 1: you know. So it's a question of how they fixed
- 33:56Speaker 1: it the first time, um can can affect how they
- 34:00Speaker 1: go about it the second time. Yeah. I did read
- 34:03Speaker 1: something that the second time is less less time in
- 34:09Speaker 1: terms of the comeback you can come. But I don't
- 34:10Speaker 1: know how that works. I don't you know. You know
- 34:12Speaker 1: that David Chow, the NFL doc. Yeah, he was the
- 34:16Speaker 1: one I read that with a lot of times. The
- 34:18Speaker 1: second the second recovery can be shorter. But he said,
- 34:21Speaker 1: you'll be really really up against him being ready to go. Yeah,
- 34:26Speaker 1: you know for the season. That's why it was crying
- 34:29Speaker 1: forget about one all right, Christian. But I think Christian's
- 34:33Speaker 1: point largely is accurate. I think that you have to
- 34:35Speaker 1: be a little bit. I'm not saying you can't take chance.
- 34:37Speaker 1: It's like Mike says, I would I would roll the
- 34:39Speaker 1: dice on one of those Alabama receivers not in the
- 34:42Speaker 1: first round, though. I think they need help. I think
- 34:44Speaker 1: they need talent right now. Yeah, they were in a
- 34:46Speaker 1: different spot, but you might have to be a little
- 34:49Speaker 1: bit more certain with the picks that you make. Jefferson, California, Hey, Jeff, gentlemen,
- 34:57Speaker 1: Jeff oh, Paul, Paul, Paul, Paul, So I am I
- 35:04Speaker 1: weep for you for the off season. You guys mentioned
- 35:07Speaker 1: that last play in the Super Bowl where Chase beat
- 35:13Speaker 1: Jalen Ramsey like a rented mule, and Paul, I weep
- 35:19Speaker 1: for the off season, blonami that you were going to
- 35:21Speaker 1: be able to have about the Greg Badars of the
- 35:25Speaker 1: world and everyone else about offensive line play after they
- 35:30Speaker 1: let Burrow go out there and get absolutely obliterated for
- 35:34Speaker 1: four quarters and give up a record number of facts
- 35:38Speaker 1: and they were a blade of grass from winning the
- 35:42Speaker 1: Super Bowl on that play, right, So I'll still have
- 35:44Speaker 1: my Blena. You don't worry about it, Okay, good? Like
- 35:48Speaker 1: I mean, in all seriousness, like obviously no one would
- 35:50Speaker 1: tell you. You know, let's be as bad as we can.
- 35:53Speaker 1: You know, at any element of the game, they need
- 35:55Speaker 1: to improve their offensive line. But this is two years
- 35:58Speaker 1: in a row a team made it to the Super Role.
- 36:00Speaker 1: You're telling me you can get to the super Bowl,
- 36:02Speaker 1: but you could never win it with that kind of
- 36:04Speaker 1: an offensive line. I mean, isn't that kind of silly.
- 36:07Speaker 1: You're good enough to get all the way to the
- 36:08Speaker 1: championship game, but you're not good enough to win it,
- 36:10Speaker 1: because yeah, you gotta really stretch offensive. Is it your
- 36:14Speaker 1: fatal flaw in the biggest moments? Shest you? But I'd
- 36:18Speaker 1: be more willing to say it's my fatal flaw. You
- 36:20Speaker 1: can beat bad teams with a poor offensive line, but
- 36:23Speaker 1: once you start playing three teams in the playoff. Okay,
- 36:26Speaker 1: except except for the won three playoff. But it's Joe
- 36:28Speaker 1: Burrow and people are gonna be mad at me. But
- 36:30Speaker 1: what if you put Mac Jones behind that offensive line?
- 36:32Speaker 1: Oh he did. Oh, they wouldn't have been as good. Right,
- 36:35Speaker 1: they wouldn't have been right. But if you have an
- 36:37Speaker 1: elite quarterback, he can overcome it. Yeah, to a point,
- 36:41Speaker 1: and some people might have been than the fatal flaw
- 36:44Speaker 1: that game was actually having Key Ryan run on Park.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I'm with you, Jeff on that. That's like overthinking it.
- 36:51Speaker 1: You know, they'll never think, they'll never give him the ball. Yeah,
- 36:54Speaker 1: there's a reason why, but that's what they do. They
- 36:56Speaker 1: use him as their third down back, like he's James
- 36:58Speaker 1: White or something like this special player like Joe Mixon
- 37:02Speaker 1: to me is like pretty close to Alvin Kamara. I
- 37:05Speaker 1: think he's a really good player. Yeah, he's a good
- 37:07Speaker 1: all around running back. And they take him off the
- 37:11Speaker 1: field on third down for p rid like just losing
- 37:14Speaker 1: with your best players. Lose with your best in those
- 37:16Speaker 1: big spots. Yeah, all right, Jeff, thanks for the call. Appreciate. Hey,
- 37:20Speaker 1: some news kind of just dropped some content news content news, Apple,
- 37:27Speaker 1: you know. The Apple announced today it has ordered The Dynasty,
- 37:32Speaker 1: a new documentary events series about the New England Patriots
- 37:36Speaker 1: from Brian Grazer and Ron Howard. Wow Howard Yeah, Imagine
- 37:41Speaker 1: hats their company in association with NFL Films, to join
- 37:45Speaker 1: its unscripted slate. The ten part docuseries Ten Parts Parts,
- 37:51Speaker 1: is based on the critically acclaimed New York Times best
- 37:53Speaker 1: selling book by author Jeff Benedict. With unprecedented access to
- 37:57Speaker 1: the New England Patriots, Benedict spend two years inside the
- 38:01Speaker 1: organization and chronicled the rise and historic twenty year run
- 38:05Speaker 1: of the Patriots during the Brady Belichick Craft Era. The
- 38:09Speaker 1: documentary series directed by Emmy nominated filmmaker Matthew Hamachek, who
- 38:14Speaker 1: did Tiger. Oh, of course, we'll go deeper, drawing on
- 38:18Speaker 1: thousands of hours of never before seen video footage and
- 38:21Speaker 1: audio files from the Patriots organization's archive. The filmmakers also
- 38:26Speaker 1: have been given access to the organization during the twenty
- 38:29Speaker 1: twenty one season and are conducting hundreds of interviews with
- 38:34Speaker 1: past and present Patriot players, coaches, and executives, along with
- 38:39Speaker 1: staff writers, along with league officials in the arch rivals
- 38:44Speaker 1: of the most dominant sports dynasty. I can get on
- 38:47Speaker 1: board with this documentary series. If I get in it
- 38:49Speaker 1: not gonna lie. It's a big break Hollywood, is what
- 38:52Speaker 1: I was waiting for an oh seven, the Undefeated season,
- 38:55Speaker 1: just trying to think of there's anything. No, that's that's
- 38:58Speaker 1: pretty much it, so that it doesn't say when, does
- 39:01Speaker 1: this say when it's coming out? No, well, not anytime soon,
- 39:05Speaker 1: because no one's contacted me for ten parts. But that's
- 39:10Speaker 1: how many teams have a ten part documentary? How do
- 39:12Speaker 1: you break them up? Is that like a season each?
- 39:15Speaker 1: Or yeah? I don't know a couple, but um, I
- 39:19Speaker 1: love I'm really I really like the documentaries. I like
- 39:23Speaker 1: the format, and I think when they're you know, did
- 39:25Speaker 1: you guys watch the Terry Bradshaw One? No, No, okay, no,
- 39:29Speaker 1: good show prep Steelers. So this is going to be
- 39:33Speaker 1: on Apple Plus, I guess yeah, Apple, Apple TV Plus.
- 39:39Speaker 1: All right, they plussed it up. Yeah, they plussed it up.
- 39:42Speaker 1: It was just used to be. So that's basically just
- 39:44Speaker 1: their streaming service. Yeah, exactly. I'm trying to keep track
- 39:47Speaker 1: of everything. Everything's up, but I mean thousands of hours
- 39:51Speaker 1: and yeah, so the question is what can they bring
- 39:54Speaker 1: to this that we don't already know? Because I read
- 39:56Speaker 1: the book Dynasty, good book, good book. I thought the
- 39:59Speaker 1: early part of the book was some stuff that you know,
- 40:03Speaker 1: I probably hadn't heard before. But once he got into
- 40:07Speaker 1: like twenty and ten and on, there wasn't I didn't
- 40:11Speaker 1: think it was much new. I mean, that's not you
- 40:12Speaker 1: shouldn't be the barometer. You have a good feel for
- 40:15Speaker 1: these things, Okay, But I'm just wondering, like what in
- 40:17Speaker 1: this is gonna be even more than the book? You know?
- 40:21Speaker 1: But like I would say, like I watched The Brady
- 40:24Speaker 1: Man in the Arena yea, and very very little in
- 40:30Speaker 1: there was not known already, but I still found it entertaining. Yeah,
- 40:33Speaker 1: you know when I go out of my way to
- 40:35Speaker 1: watch it. No, it was sent to me every week,
- 40:37Speaker 1: so I watched it sent to me. Right. Well, it's
- 40:39Speaker 1: much like the thirty thirty documentary and the Tuck Rule.
- 40:42Speaker 1: I you know, I got a you know, a screener. Yeah.
- 40:44Speaker 1: I think. The thing that I like about these and
- 40:46Speaker 1: Paul I was right, like, you know, there's not like
- 40:49Speaker 1: a lot of Oh I didn't know that, but I
- 40:51Speaker 1: think what I like about it it's just hearing the
- 40:54Speaker 1: players that went through it and felt the same way
- 40:56Speaker 1: I did as a fan. You have that shared experience, aience,
- 41:00Speaker 1: and I think just to hear you know, player Patriot
- 41:03Speaker 1: a being devastated by a loss and you remember, oh man,
- 41:06Speaker 1: I was so mad after that like that, That's the
- 41:08Speaker 1: key is who were they talking to? And maybe they
- 41:11Speaker 1: can add an insight that you hadn't heard before, you know. Um,
- 41:16Speaker 1: so so this is is this like done like in
- 41:19Speaker 1: conjunction with us and whatnot? Yeah? Oh yeah, they've been around.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I've I've met Jeff and we've helped them out with stuff.
- 41:25Speaker 1: But I didn't you know, Ron Howard and Brian Great.
- 41:28Speaker 1: I mean those are big names. Yeah, you wouldn't know
- 41:31Speaker 1: Douce big imagine, I know, yeah, Cunningham. So you know
- 41:35Speaker 1: it's gonna be well done for sure. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 41:40Speaker 1: I mean I would, I would really good. I mean,
- 41:42Speaker 1: Ron Howard doesn't really attach his name to to, you know,
- 41:45Speaker 1: projects that aren't well done. Right. It's funny because I
- 41:47Speaker 1: think you could do You can do a ten part
- 41:49Speaker 1: documentary about the Patriots dynasty. You could also probably make
- 41:52Speaker 1: a one part about the controversies of what people really
- 41:55Speaker 1: want to know and what the real things are. Oh yeah,
- 41:57Speaker 1: it's just a one part sixty minutes of You're not
- 42:00Speaker 1: going to see any of that that will blow up.
- 42:02Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, but I'm sure it'll be. It'll be
- 42:04Speaker 1: well done, and it's great to relive it and be good,
- 42:07Speaker 1: good chicken soup for the soul for Patriots fans. But
- 42:10Speaker 1: does it end at eighteen? Super Bowl fifty three? They
- 42:14Speaker 1: said they said that? What I mean? They said that? Um.
- 42:19Speaker 1: The filmmakers have also been given access to the organization
- 42:23Speaker 1: during the twenty twenty one season and are conducting hundreds
- 42:27Speaker 1: of interviews with past and president Patriots players, coaches, and executives.
- 42:32Speaker 1: So what do you think so staff writers through last
- 42:39Speaker 1: year and I know that, Um, on several occasions they
- 42:41Speaker 1: had request for us to film certain things during games
- 42:44Speaker 1: and stuff like that, so we helped them out with it.
- 42:47Speaker 1: But uh yeah, so right through the season, so there's
- 42:50Speaker 1: probably gonna be stuff from last season, um that will
- 42:54Speaker 1: be new to this that wasn't even in the book. Yeah,
- 42:57Speaker 1: how do you tie it together? And I mean, just
- 43:00Speaker 1: give me Bill, let me tell me something, tell me
- 43:02Speaker 1: something I haven't heard Belichick. That's I'll give you a
- 43:05Speaker 1: little inside. Um. I guess they were granted you know,
- 43:10Speaker 1: one on one with Bill, and it went for an
- 43:12Speaker 1: extensive amount of time. Like Bill was very gracious and
- 43:16Speaker 1: gave them a lot of time. That was that was
- 43:18Speaker 1: my question, Like did he cooperate? Yeah, no, he was
- 43:20Speaker 1: really good. Yeah, because he does seem to have he
- 43:22Speaker 1: never wants to look back, but I think he does
- 43:25Speaker 1: have a good sense of history. So you know, as
- 43:26Speaker 1: it gets into NFL films historical area, then he's like,
- 43:30Speaker 1: we'll sign me up for that. Like if it's local
- 43:33Speaker 1: media outlet wants to talk about the game last week,
- 43:35Speaker 1: forget it. But you know, as we get further out
- 43:38Speaker 1: from that stuff. I'd love to hear his his perspective now.
- 43:41Speaker 1: So it doesn't say when this is going to come out,
- 43:42Speaker 1: but if they're doing ten parts thousands of I mean
- 43:46Speaker 1: this probably is going to be like a year from now.
- 43:48Speaker 1: I would think at least right a lot of work.
- 43:50Speaker 1: But yeah, maybe twenty twenty two. No mention that the
- 43:53Speaker 1: following team around for the twenty twenty two season. Yeah,
- 43:56Speaker 1: so good stuff, like you know, can't wait? All right?
- 44:01Speaker 1: FIST five hundred is the a stick at hut Line
- 44:03Speaker 1: web radio at patrios dot com is the email address?
- 44:06Speaker 1: Get a lot of emails coming in? Uh spe writes
- 44:10Speaker 1: in from Fresno. I was pretty hyped to see Cup
- 44:14Speaker 1: take over the game on that drive and he didn't
- 44:16Speaker 1: disappoint you just felt it was about to happen. But
- 44:19Speaker 1: then that holding call came. It ruined the whole game
- 44:22Speaker 1: for me. I was just like, oh, so that's how
- 44:24Speaker 1: this season ends. Disappointing, deflating. At best, it's a makeup
- 44:28Speaker 1: call for the Ramsey face mask. At worst, the fixes
- 44:32Speaker 1: in either way, there's diminished credibility and fun when the
- 44:36Speaker 1: refs start calling an entirely different game when it matters
- 44:39Speaker 1: most at the end of the Super Bowl total lane crap. Yeah,
- 44:43Speaker 1: that's just the thing with a fish. Just be consistent.
- 44:46Speaker 1: I think it was a bad call, but so we're
- 44:48Speaker 1: saying because there was one call, like now, it was fixed,
- 44:54Speaker 1: so it was Was it fixed for Cincinnati originally? Is
- 44:58Speaker 1: that hell? It worked? That was a mistake, but then
- 45:00Speaker 1: they had to fix it, Jack writes in and Anaba.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Among the lessons from la Super Bowl victory over Cincinnati
- 45:09Speaker 1: is that a great quarterback, a great receiver, and a
- 45:12Speaker 1: very good defense might get a team to the Super Bowl,
- 45:15Speaker 1: but without a great offensive line, that great quarterback will
- 45:18Speaker 1: struggle mightily under relentless pressure from a super Bowl caliber
- 45:22Speaker 1: defense that will sack and harass him throughout the game.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Joe Burrow had two big plays in the entire game,
- 45:29Speaker 1: one which resulted from a fantastic catch and one which
- 45:32Speaker 1: resulted from a chase was perfect, he said, he said,
- 45:36Speaker 1: He said, a resulted into fantastic. It was a fit.
- 45:38Speaker 1: He had one hand. I know it was a really
- 45:40Speaker 1: good catch, but it was a perfect throw. I mean,
- 45:42Speaker 1: let's not just throw it throw out of him. That's
- 45:45Speaker 1: you can. You can you can compliment chase without taking
- 45:48Speaker 1: it away. From your binkie. Uh, Cincinnati was out of
- 45:52Speaker 1: those two. Chase would be the binkie. He a guy
- 45:54Speaker 1: that you told me you know, came on late. I
- 45:56Speaker 1: was gonna say, you know, he's the rookie of the year, right. Uh,
- 45:59Speaker 1: Cincinnati was lucky to even have a chance to win. Well.
- 46:02Speaker 1: The Patriots take this lesson to heart by selecting an
- 46:05Speaker 1: offensive tackle in either the first or second round of
- 46:08Speaker 1: the upcoming draft. Yes, I would agree with you that
- 46:11Speaker 1: Cincinnati was lucky to be in the game. I would
- 46:13Speaker 1: agree with that. That's the only thing I agree with
- 46:14Speaker 1: in that whole email. Though Cincinnati was fortunate that old
- 46:17Speaker 1: BJ got hurt. I think the game was going to
- 46:19Speaker 1: be a blowout. I think the Rams are vastly superior
- 46:22Speaker 1: to Cincinnati. Yeah, Tony writes in one of the Bengals
- 46:28Speaker 1: sigh thought and said so at the time. The coach
- 46:32Speaker 1: made a critical error early in the game by going
- 46:35Speaker 1: forward on fourth down at about the fifty yard line.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Had the d played really well in the one to
- 46:41Speaker 1: two series, The d had played really well in the
- 46:44Speaker 1: one to two series up to that point, the risk
- 46:46Speaker 1: outweighed the benefit could have pinned the Rams deep. Instead,
- 46:50Speaker 1: they had a short field and scored a touchdown. Wasn't
- 46:54Speaker 1: that the first drive of the game for the Bengals, No,
- 46:58Speaker 1: it was later. I think there might have been another one,
- 47:01Speaker 1: but I think it was the second drive. And um yeah,
- 47:06Speaker 1: I also thought Hecker had a bad game. He did.
- 47:08Speaker 1: I agree? Yeah, the hold right, that was the hold
- 47:11Speaker 1: was all him? But Fred's right? Good? Yeah, because he
- 47:16Speaker 1: used to be a weapon according to Bill Belichick. Anymore,
- 47:20Speaker 1: what's with the last couple of weeks in these coaching
- 47:22Speaker 1: gambles see also Todd Bowls all out blitzing instead of
- 47:26Speaker 1: playing a too deep safety defense. Well those are two
- 47:29Speaker 1: different things. Yeah, Like a lot of people go for
- 47:33Speaker 1: it on fourth down. Yep, Well you're looking that up.
- 47:39Speaker 1: I am uh James and Brisbane. I haven't heard from
- 47:42Speaker 1: him in a while. A thought sprung to my mind
- 47:45Speaker 1: last week, and I wanted to ask for your thoughts
- 47:48Speaker 1: on it in the form of a couple of questions. Firstly,
- 47:51Speaker 1: could you see that it was the first drive of
- 47:53Speaker 1: the game. It was Cincinnati fourth and one from the
- 47:56Speaker 1: forty nine yard line. They got stopped, so the whole
- 47:59Speaker 1: like the defense, but it didn't happen again. Did they
- 48:02Speaker 1: do it again? They got stopped in the last fourth down. No,
- 48:04Speaker 1: I mean like fourth and one. All right, Anyway, this
- 48:08Speaker 1: is about the Super Bowl locations. By the way, could
- 48:11Speaker 1: you see the game going back to New York for
- 48:14Speaker 1: a second time after after the next three in Arizona, Vegas,
- 48:17Speaker 1: and New Orleans. I remember one of the big complaints
- 48:20Speaker 1: for forty eight was that New York City was so
- 48:22Speaker 1: big the week's events felt like they got swallowed by
- 48:24Speaker 1: the location. No, I hope not so. The Bengals went
- 48:28Speaker 1: for three fourth downs in the game. Okay, but the
- 48:32Speaker 1: first one that he's talking about was the Bengals first
- 48:35Speaker 1: possession of the game. The Rams got the ball, drove, stalled, punted,
- 48:40Speaker 1: Cincinnati started to drive, stalled, and got stopped at midfield.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Then the Rams went in and scored. Okay, so it's
- 48:45Speaker 1: not like the Bengals. Yeah, the whole Bengals defense. There
- 48:48Speaker 1: was nobody thout. Yeah, that had yet to be established, right,
- 48:52Speaker 1: But now I think the Bengals defense did play pretty
- 48:54Speaker 1: well in the game. Yeah. Um. Secondly, which other NFL
- 48:57Speaker 1: city could buy the ability to host Super Bowl with
- 49:00Speaker 1: a new stadium. It sounds like Chicago might be pushing
- 49:03Speaker 1: for a new stadium. It might get one from that.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Chicago's pushing for a new stadium. They just put that in. No,
- 49:09Speaker 1: they didn't. They renovated. Yeah, yeah, they needed but it
- 49:12Speaker 1: was a huge what's the what's the what's the horse
- 49:14Speaker 1: track in Illinois? There's a I can't think of the
- 49:19Speaker 1: name of it. There's a that's the psyche that they
- 49:22Speaker 1: want to do a new stadium, Okay someone Yeah, a
- 49:26Speaker 1: lot of listeners. And I think history says that if
- 49:28Speaker 1: you build a new stadium and it's a big one,
- 49:30Speaker 1: like not Gillette Stadium, but you know you you might
- 49:33Speaker 1: get a super bollet regardless of of climate and potential. Yeah,
- 49:38Speaker 1: I'd be curious how the like just generally if they
- 49:41Speaker 1: build an indoor one. Yeah, how was I wonder how
- 49:44Speaker 1: LA was just generally for you know, like you guys
- 49:46Speaker 1: always talk about what it was like getting around, we
- 49:48Speaker 1: were trapped at the mall, all that kind of stuff.
- 49:50Speaker 1: I wonder how LA was because La can be so
- 49:52Speaker 1: spread out, traffic tough to get everywhere. I wonder how
- 49:56Speaker 1: that all worked out or if because it seems like
- 49:58Speaker 1: they built this place knowing this was what it was
- 50:00Speaker 1: going to become, So maybe it's really there's a time
- 50:04Speaker 1: honored tradition during Super Bowls where the media bitches and complaints.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, but I didn't hear that this year. That's
- 50:10Speaker 1: because they were in LA. Yeah. Well yeah, I didn't
- 50:12Speaker 1: hear a lot of like, oh this is awful or
- 50:17Speaker 1: about But I think form like the East Coast guys,
- 50:20Speaker 1: they're done at like three o'clock our time, and you
- 50:23Speaker 1: know their time, which is like six o'clock, right, and
- 50:26Speaker 1: they go out in golf or whatever they did, you know, best,
- 50:29Speaker 1: and it changes the best. Yeah. Finally, I hate the
- 50:32Speaker 1: idea of playing a Super Bowl in London or anywhere internationally,
- 50:36Speaker 1: especially in that toilet bowl of something ground. Uh, keep
- 50:43Speaker 1: it in the USA and move preseason and regular season
- 50:46Speaker 1: around instead. I don't know. I just don't know how
- 50:50Speaker 1: you get it on TV at a reasonable time where
- 50:54Speaker 1: you're not going to take a hit to your TV numbers,
- 50:56Speaker 1: because I think that's probably a huge piece of what
- 50:59Speaker 1: they want. I mean, you like it starting it around
- 51:02Speaker 1: six thirty Eastern time, you know. Yeah, what do you
- 51:05Speaker 1: think of the Saturday thing that people talk about? No,
- 51:09Speaker 1: I think they should do it on Sunday, but do
- 51:11Speaker 1: it on the day before, uh, presidents, so that we
- 51:14Speaker 1: have the holiday the next day. Yeah, we're gonna move
- 51:18Speaker 1: it back another week. It was already insufferable this year. Yeah,
- 51:22Speaker 1: well when they hit Paul, when they have eighteen games,
- 51:25Speaker 1: they're gonna have to and they're gonna have eighteen games
- 51:31Speaker 1: regular season games. Okay, so okay, yeah March. They're not
- 51:39Speaker 1: gonna move the season. They're gonna just play more games,
- 51:42Speaker 1: move the super Bowl. More regular season games? Will you
- 51:45Speaker 1: played in January? Probably it's a bad that's a bad move. Yeah,
- 51:48Speaker 1: stay at three preseason that is probably gonna drop to two. Yeah, yeah,
- 51:53Speaker 1: ain't that'll work. Um Sean writes in from Vancouver. Pick
- 51:58Speaker 1: one player the Patriots resign who was currently an unrestricted
- 52:03Speaker 1: free agent, one player to trade, and one to cut.
- 52:05Speaker 1: My choices would oh, he doesn't give us choice. His
- 52:08Speaker 1: choice would be resigned j C. Jackson, trade Nikil Harry,
- 52:12Speaker 1: and cut Dalton Keene. I mean that we can't do that.
- 52:15Speaker 1: That's too too broad. It's too broad. You have to narrow.
- 52:21Speaker 1: I want to resign all the good players, trade all
- 52:23Speaker 1: the bad ones and the injured ones. I'm just gonna cut. Yeah,
- 52:27Speaker 1: let's see what you did. Adam along the kind of
- 52:30Speaker 1: the same lines, writes in what's your idea of a
- 52:33Speaker 1: dream offseason from a roster standpoint, My three main points
- 52:36Speaker 1: would be signed Chris Godwin, draft a left tackle in
- 52:39Speaker 1: the first round, and figure out the J. C. Jackson situation.
- 52:45Speaker 1: I mean, would that would all makes sense. I don't
- 52:48Speaker 1: want to disappoint people, but like Chris Godwin, like that
- 52:52Speaker 1: caliber of player. I don't think he is getting signed
- 52:55Speaker 1: in free agency by the Patriots. I don't think so either,
- 52:58Speaker 1: not unless the ACL is like cut his price tag
- 53:02Speaker 1: in half, which I don't think will be the case.
- 53:05Speaker 1: Like if you want to say I can get this
- 53:06Speaker 1: guy for pennies on the dollar, then sure, but I
- 53:09Speaker 1: don't think they're going to invest heavily in free agent
- 53:11Speaker 1: receivers after investing heavily in free agent receivers last year. Yeah,
- 53:15Speaker 1: I know, And that's I'm with you, Paul, and that's
- 53:17Speaker 1: what I'm a little bit. I know this offseason is
- 53:19Speaker 1: gonna suck because we got a call last week that
- 53:21Speaker 1: was kind of centering around it where I'm like, I
- 53:23Speaker 1: don't think it's gonna be big, splashy free agency again.
- 53:25Speaker 1: It's gonna be take care of in house, you know,
- 53:28Speaker 1: keep kind of the guys that you want and really
- 53:31Speaker 1: focus on the draft again and it maybe fill a
- 53:33Speaker 1: little bit of holes. But I think, you know, kind
- 53:35Speaker 1: of what the other previous caller talked about or sorry
- 53:37Speaker 1: was Christian. You know, maybe maybe it's it's getting guys
- 53:41Speaker 1: on the offensive lines, you know, stabilizing all of that first,
- 53:44Speaker 1: and then you know, worrying about it. It's just I
- 53:46Speaker 1: don't yea, his left tackle in the first round's not
- 53:49Speaker 1: out of the realm now that that could happen and
- 53:52Speaker 1: would be a good pick. I mean if they could
- 53:54Speaker 1: get say that, you know, third or fourth tackle and
- 53:56Speaker 1: the draft at twenty twenty one, right twenty one, Yeah,
- 54:00Speaker 1: that would make that would make sense seas around there.
- 54:03Speaker 1: By the way, if anyone's wondering or cares Eric is
- 54:06Speaker 1: not here, um, no one's noticed. Yeah, he's under the weather. Sorry,
- 54:11Speaker 1: he's under the weather. I think Mac could go through
- 54:13Speaker 1: the whole thing just playing Eric drops and he could
- 54:15Speaker 1: probably at the illusion he's actually playing word. Uh yeah,
- 54:21Speaker 1: me And Texas has a good question something you have
- 54:25Speaker 1: to consider question, would the La Rams have won the
- 54:28Speaker 1: Super Bowl in twenty and eighteen if Cooper Cup had played.
- 54:32Speaker 1: I don't think Cooper Cup was Cooper Cup then, but
- 54:36Speaker 1: it would have changed the game. Obviously, it would have
- 54:38Speaker 1: given them another receiver and that would have been huge. Yeah,
- 54:41Speaker 1: I'm not sure they would have won, but it would
- 54:42Speaker 1: have changed the game. I mean, certainly it was a
- 54:44Speaker 1: game that could have gone either way as it was.
- 54:46Speaker 1: So you add a good player to their offense to
- 54:48Speaker 1: go with Mount Cooks and um Bobby Trees. Yeah, that
- 54:53Speaker 1: would have would have certainly helped things. I think Todd
- 54:55Speaker 1: Gurley being healthy would have would have changed things. Yeah,
- 54:58Speaker 1: Todd Gurley wasn't healthy in that game. Yeah, let's face it.
- 55:02Speaker 1: The game it was three to three in the midway
- 55:05Speaker 1: through the fourth quarter and everybody either way, nothing would
- 55:07Speaker 1: have changed that. The Patriots are gonna win the whole time.
- 55:09Speaker 1: Next question, Prene writes in I saw a thirty for
- 55:13Speaker 1: thirty on the Tuck Rule game and that Brady said,
- 55:16Speaker 1: I if that was ruled a fumble, then he thought
- 55:18Speaker 1: he might be a backup for a long time, but
- 55:21Speaker 1: thought he could have still found a way. We can
- 55:23Speaker 1: never know what could have happened because it never happened,
- 55:26Speaker 1: But hypothetically speaking, what each of you guys think could
- 55:29Speaker 1: have happened if it was ruled as a fumble for
- 55:33Speaker 1: fun purposes. Keep up the good work. Ah. I don't
- 55:37Speaker 1: know what the team would have accomplished, but I think
- 55:40Speaker 1: Brady would have been the starter in two thousand and
- 55:43Speaker 1: two and Bledsoe still would have been traded. Do you
- 55:45Speaker 1: think if somehow, they for whatever reason whatever happened, went
- 55:49Speaker 1: to two thousand and two with Bledsoe back as the starter,
- 55:52Speaker 1: that Brady could have somehow taken it from him again,
- 55:55Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. I mean, but the least
- 55:57Speaker 1: would have absolutely been shorter, right if he's not having
- 56:01Speaker 1: If Bledsoe is regains his job and there's not having
- 56:04Speaker 1: success after you just had a guy goal would have
- 56:07Speaker 1: been what nine and three, nine and four, right, because
- 56:12Speaker 1: they didn't you go eleven and three something like that.
- 56:14Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't remember. But a guy just
- 56:17Speaker 1: you know, tore it up over the last three months
- 56:19Speaker 1: of the season and lost in the first round of
- 56:21Speaker 1: the playoffs. So yeah, he's not going to do it.
- 56:23Speaker 1: I personally think they would have traded bledso anyway. Now,
- 56:26Speaker 1: I don't know what that means. The Patriots would have
- 56:28Speaker 1: won in oh three and oh four like they did.
- 56:31Speaker 1: I think everything changes. You can't really know that for sure,
- 56:35Speaker 1: maybe they win in O two instead. Maybe, and maybe
- 56:37Speaker 1: they would have been hungry right h Sman in the
- 56:40Speaker 1: Bay Area. A co worker said that the Rams were
- 56:43Speaker 1: undeserving of winning the Super Bowl based on the entirety
- 56:47Speaker 1: of their season. I had to laugh and responded by saying,
- 56:49Speaker 1: two points. You could have given a list of ten
- 56:52Speaker 1: teams in early December that could win the Super Bowl
- 56:54Speaker 1: and I would have seen a reason for each one.
- 56:57Speaker 1: The season felt more wide open than any other recent memory.
- 57:01Speaker 1: Another reason I had to disagree with this point was
- 57:04Speaker 1: they built a team of all pros through trades and
- 57:06Speaker 1: free agents. Saying that they are undeserving wouldn't is shortsighted
- 57:11Speaker 1: because since they built the team to win, it hall
- 57:13Speaker 1: not like the Dolphins owner who's trying to throw games. Anyway.
- 57:17Speaker 1: I thought it was a good game, kind of choppy
- 57:20Speaker 1: play in the second half and question coaching calls slash
- 57:23Speaker 1: ref calls. Ramsd made the stops when they needed to
- 57:27Speaker 1: in the second half. Higgins dropping the third down with
- 57:30Speaker 1: six minutes left was huge and not talked about enough.
- 57:33Speaker 1: That was a big drop. I don't really get these
- 57:36Speaker 1: takes that are coming out about the Rams, like what
- 57:38Speaker 1: I'll give it to you. If you're wanting, I'll give
- 57:41Speaker 1: you the rationality you want. It all about the Patriots, absolutely, Freddie,
- 57:47Speaker 1: don't don't tell me this isn't don't tell me the
- 57:49Speaker 1: backlash isn't Patriots related. They buy it. It's diametrically opposite
- 57:53Speaker 1: of the way the Patriots did it. So much run
- 57:55Speaker 1: can't be right, it can't be right. Well, but what
- 57:58Speaker 1: about the Collins friend that was saying it, that didn't
- 58:01Speaker 1: care about the Patriots? Like, what do people outside? Why? Why?
- 58:04Speaker 1: Why listen to beat Tom Brady? If you're asking me,
- 58:08Speaker 1: do I definitively think that the Rams were the best
- 58:12Speaker 1: team in football this year? There's an argument to be made.
- 58:15Speaker 1: I think that they are because I think that they
- 58:17Speaker 1: had the talent all along and at times looked apart.
- 58:21Speaker 1: They had some some bumps. But don't you think it's
- 58:24Speaker 1: it's not like they went nine and eight. But don't
- 58:26Speaker 1: you think it's an entirely different game if it's Rams
- 58:28Speaker 1: versus Chiefs or Bills. I mean, I think I think
- 58:32Speaker 1: it's also an entirely different game of ob J doesn't
- 58:34Speaker 1: get hurt, No, I know, but I think that there
- 58:37Speaker 1: I think the Chiefs or Bills beat them well Sunday, Yeah,
- 58:40Speaker 1: the way the game unfolded, yes, full strength, No, I
- 58:44Speaker 1: saw that that ms. I'm talking with OBJ, and yeah,
- 58:47Speaker 1: I think the Rams win, okay, but fully healthy. I
- 58:50Speaker 1: think the Rams win. They're more talented. I mean, they
- 58:53Speaker 1: got all the pieces. But I hear what you're saying.
- 58:55Speaker 1: I think. I mean, I guess that's what it comes
- 58:57Speaker 1: back to, is that people kind of felt like Kansas
- 58:59Speaker 1: Cea the Buffalo on their best day, probably better than
- 59:03Speaker 1: because we're at all enamored with offense. And that was
- 59:08Speaker 1: the best game ever because no punting was allowed. And
- 59:11Speaker 1: I loved it. It It was wildly entertaining. The Chiefs Bills game.
- 59:14Speaker 1: I loved it, And I didn't love this game Sunday.
- 59:18Speaker 1: But I think that the Rams could have had that
- 59:20Speaker 1: kind of an offensive game had they stayed healthy. Losing
- 59:24Speaker 1: not just O b J, playing without the Higbee and
- 59:29Speaker 1: having lost Robert Woods earlier in the year dramatically impacted
- 59:34Speaker 1: their offense. Not having cam Acres all year dramatically impacted
- 59:38Speaker 1: their offense. They were the best team. They were really
- 59:42Speaker 1: really talented. Again, if you want to tell me that
- 59:45Speaker 1: Green Bay was more talented, I'm not gonna argue, Yeah,
- 59:47Speaker 1: I think Green Bay was really good. I think Kansas
- 59:50Speaker 1: City is really good. I don't think Kansas City played
- 59:52Speaker 1: at the level of the Rams all year. To you, No,
- 59:56Speaker 1: Kansas City just kept winning games because they have know
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: mahomes and they found a way to win games and whatnot.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: But I don't think they ever looked quite like themselves. Yeah,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: and I think there are some good teams. I agree
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: with the way the guy said it. If you ask
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: me in December, there was eight or ten teams, you know.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: I think the Bills, the Chiefs, the Rams, Um probably
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: the Titans, the Cowboys, the Bucks, the Packers. I would
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: have been able to make an argument for any of
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: those teams, even forty nine absolutely, Freddie, Yeah, forty nine
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Ers are a talented team. Yeah. I don't always feel
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: though that I need to say that whoever wins the
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: Super Bowl was the best team in the league. It's
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: it's totally unique kind of you know, it's a tournament,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: it's it's a unique set of games. They won the
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: last game. Yeah, I mean, I don't. I mean, I
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: don't think and would anybody say the Giants were the
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: best team in football seven? But they but you know,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: executed their matchups. And we were talking about the halftime
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: and like, oh, somebody said, what was your worst halftime
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: that you saw that you were at? Said probably the
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Tom Petty one. I couldn't figure out why, I said.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Then somebody said that was ZO seven and I was like, oh,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: that's why I hate it. And it was ten seven
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: and sixty. Well whenever the school wasn't it was seven three, right, Yeah,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Oh my god, that's probably why I hated it. In
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: a dark place. In a dark place, Patty's an agawam
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: on the A sticket outline. Hey Patty, it's up, guys. Okay.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: I wanted to get into just a couple of quick things.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: The first thing is, um, I'm I'm a little bit
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: worried with all the the offensive assistance that were we've
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: lost this this offseason so far, just in you know,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: the whole development of Mac Jones and sort of uh
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: piggyback off of that. The more I think about it,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: the more I would like to see them draft. If
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: they're gonna go and draft a wide receiver, I would
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: like to see them get like a John Metchi who
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: can play like multiple spots that has like rapport with
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Mac Jones, and he's a separator too. I mean he's
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: a guy that gets opened consistently and sort of following
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: the footsteps of what Cincinnati did and with what Miami
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: did this past. You're getting Wattles to team up with Tua,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: and just wanted to get your guys opinions on that,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: as long as you're okay with him not playing this year, right, Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: And I mean I think everybody's kind of on that train.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: And it's hard. I mean, I dip my tone into this,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: but you flip on John Metchi and you see him
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: catching a bunch of awesome paths Mac Jones, and you
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: know you're like, good, No, Mechi's a good player and
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: this is what they need. The only thing I would
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: caution about Metchi is the year that he had with
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Mac Jones. He was like, way down the list of
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: behind priorities is because they they had Wattles and Smith. Yeah,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I think Ruggs was already gone the year that Mac
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Jones played. Maybe if you go back two years, so
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: when Tua got hurt and Mac played the last game,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: you know a couple of games. Um, But Metchi is
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: a good player, and I would absolutely take him if
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: you could get him, you know, later on because of
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: the town a c L. But I think you need
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: players to help you right now? Yeah, thanks Patty. Yeah,
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: that's it's that's a tough one. I mean, I think,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: as you said earlier in the show, I think later rounds,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: if you could get him in the second or third
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: on day two. But yeah, it's it's just you got
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: three guys that this year who gall came in and played,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: and I think you need at least three this year.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: And it doesn't even have to be that one. Does
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: the fact that you have a smaller cash of picks
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: to work with it in the first place, does that
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: further discourage you from taking a risk like that, Like
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: if you only have you I think they have six
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: picks right now, right, yeah, right, that's six picks. Can
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: you afford to take a guy with a twenty ACL
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: who may or may not even be able to play
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: for you next year's I'm sure that's the debate probably
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: going on. But what do you just say, screw it,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: he's a good player, I can get really good value.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: I get him in the third round and if even
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: if he can't play for me in twenty twenty two,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna have a good player for the next three
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: years after that, or you know, like you might lose
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: out on it. And because another team that has more
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: already is more willing to take that show, well, those
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: would be dumb teams that take ye you know, so
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: like we may not, like we may not be the
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: only team willing to take the long term view on him. Yeah,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: you know, especially a team that has what it needs
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: right now. And like I've said, you can make a
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: case for any position pretty much on the roster that
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: you need. So it's as much as you could look
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: at like Metchi at round two. I can guarantee you
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: that there's a cornerback or a tackle or a linebacker
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: or somebody else in there that might be out there
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: week one, and and I get the desire to find
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: an Alabama guy to pair with Mac who he might
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: know already. And I think there's value to that. I do.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, you start with with Waddle and Tua,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: you start with Chase and Borrow, So I do think
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: that there's some merit to that theory. But can't you
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: find a guy in a second or third round at
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: wide receiver who doesn't have a torn a cl yep.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: That would be as good as John Metchi. And maybe
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: he doesn't have the relationship with Mac Jones, but he
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: has is probably as much talent as those guys, right,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: And it's the same thing. It's now the other guys.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: The other guy might be special Williams, he might be.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: He might be. But still, I mean, I think he's
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: got his issues of being coming from Ohio State and
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: I mean going you know, the two guys from Ohio
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: State are real good too, um and there is and
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: that's just it goes back to what we talk about
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: the last two years. And here we go year three.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: Where's he going? Right? Same? Same? Is he a second rounder?
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Most of what I've seen second half of first I
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: mean it's all over the place this year. I could
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: I've seen him in like mantras ten to thirty like
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: throughout that well. And I want to take him in
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: the host part. I don't want to receive in the
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: first round. Ye. But but but it's again day two.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: There's a bunch of them. I can find a day
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: receiver that's healthy, that that can help me and the
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: more edge guys tackles. Just don't ask me who it
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: is Yeah, the edge guys, well you'll you'll see. I mean,
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: you know, I'm starting to dip in. But you know,
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: as you see the composition of the draft, you realize,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: all right, well it's heavy edge and tackles, and you know,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: can those guys push corner backs or linebackers or receivers
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: down the board to the Patriots. I think those are
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: the big ones they need. Nick and Ohio right soon,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: He says, thank you for an awesome and entertaining season.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: It's my first season listening, and I'm glad I did.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Fun fact, he gives us Amazon decreased their route sizes
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: by fifty percent for drivers in LA and Ohio on
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Sunday because over one hundred and twenty drivers didn't show
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: up to work, uh in Kansas City the day of
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: the ASC Championship games. So they anticipated that. See that's
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: funny because they're anticipating in the Kansas City fans are
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: like actual chief fan LAS drivers they're probably I don't know,
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: is the super Bowl to day? Like they don't even know.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: It's not like these like RAM fans that they have
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: to like prevent it. It's Ohio, I could see. That's interesting. Yeah,
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: I wonder, like overthought that one. How many in Ohio? Like,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: what's the split between the Browns and the Bengals. I'll
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: bet you there's more Browns fans, don't you think? Well?
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: I do? You check right now? I do. But also
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: they are vastly different parts of the state, right, yeah,
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: they are, you know. But I just want to overall, like,
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: you know, how many who's got the split? Yeah? And
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: and is it who's got the old fans? Like I
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: was loving you run into old fans around here that
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: let's still love the Giants, that's who they've watched. Grown
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: up Breton Lemonster says, did Paul just say the Patriots
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: took a chance on her Nanna's because of various issues
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: and it paid off? I know he didn't mean it
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: that way, but it made me take a double take.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: I think he just meant in the beginning right because
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: he had he had red flags coming in. Yeah, but
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: that's that's my point. They were able to take a
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: chance on a guy like that and it and it
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: I mean like you ended up getting a product. Yeah,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: you ended up getting a productive player. Now obviously no
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: one would take that productive player now, right, I mean
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: for a couple of years. But you know, of course
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: he's now dead. Um let's see, Callum writes in thanks
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: for another great year of coverage. Uh now onto the
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: longest offseason in sports. I only have one complaint for
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: the three of you. How on earth could you let
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Eric win the picks contest? How does that make you feel?
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Beating him in the consolation he didn't win the playoffs?
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: Beating him next year must be a top priority. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: I would like to say that that's the case, but
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: I think I speak for the three of us. There's
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: nobody here willing to do any of the amount of preparation.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: He comes with a binder on every Thursday. He's got
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: it all mapped out, and he still takes too long
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: to make his pick. But yeah, I know this is
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: very important Eric, It's very important. Um. You know he
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: needs affirmation. He is good for him, he thrives on affirmation.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: I will say thanks to Paul. Though we were doing
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: some upstairs trivia, I was I was losing Eric, and
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: then Paul subtly shifted to the hockey category and I
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: miraculously made my made my comeback. Ye, so thank you.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: He was doing a little uh peacocking was not was
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: not having it. I was not having it. Yeah, we
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: all pray for Eric. He's not feeling well today. And
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: only piece of time knew that Fred was not part
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: of the order today. And they're like, yeah, every time,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: I'm the only one getting food. This is like friends,
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: and we don't have to hurry chicken fingers, screw fat
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: mouth over there is that going to take? I thought
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Matissa had gone out to get it. Oh, there he is.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: He's back there and he's monitoring Alex and yeah, because um,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: he's got to get ready because Matt's going away for
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: a week big time. Yeah. I'm excited for him, I
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: really am. I get nervous for him. I don't know.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: I don't want him mess out. Apparently the show wasn't
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: going out live. We just recorded it for ourselves, Alex
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: with me, Alex and Pentuckett. I was satisfied with the
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: super Bowl. It was a good back and forth game.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: I could only imagine how hard Fred was rooting against Cincinnati.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: He got that royd um to the Patriots is Bill
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: on an island by himself right now. I don't think
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: I can ever recall the Patriots being this depleted with
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: his coaches I'm twenty five, so I may not be
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: remembering some years for sure, And I am I'm really
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: worried that coaching and play could be worse this upcoming season.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: Could there be issues where people don't want to work
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: for Bill anymore? Not sure if this is the reason,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: but curious as to the panel's thoughts. Ah, it's it's
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: it's not making me feel good. I mean, I just
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: I think if you're a Patriots fan you came out
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: of this season, what do you want going for it?
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: I think you want your quarterback to develop? Do you
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: want to you know, kind of develop the team, put
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: pieces in place to protect him, to let him have success.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: And you know, with Josh leaving, we're in this nether
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: world right now where he's right. You got Bill Belichick,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: you got former defensive and special teams coaches, but you
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: don't really have an offensive guy waiting in the wings,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: even a Billy O type, you know, back before he
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: was Billy Oh. So I get it. I'm I'm and
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: I mean I feel like I'm still I haven't given
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: up hope. I think you know we're early in the offseason.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: There's gonna be stuf happening the next few weeks, I think, so,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: you know, you got to tread water for a little while.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: But I do think, I mean, I just I really
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: think that Bill Belichick wants to leave. When he leaves
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: this team, he wants him to be in good shape.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: And I think part of that has to be, you know,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: leaving some a little bit of coaching infrastructure. Now I
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: know that someone else could come in and wipe that
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: all away. Um, I'm not as convinced about that. I
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: don't think he's Dale Carnegie. I don't. I think he
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: wants to. I think he wants to set a record,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: and I think that's kind of his singular focus and
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: that I mean that's good in a way because even
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: if you want to say that that's a selfish focus,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: he's trying to win games. So that helps you too.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: If he sets the record, it's good for you. Uh.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: And in terms of the question, like were there other
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: seasons where they had this type of brain drain, I
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: think there was. I recall, like I know there was
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: one year they lost Cronell and it's been pretty consistent.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: It's been pretty consistent lately that they're losing multiples. I
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: think after the eighteen season they lost um the defensive
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: daily or uh yeah, they've had they've had seasons. It
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: just feels like it's all on offense right now. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: And I think what makes Graham left that year too? Right? Maybe?
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: Maybe I think Patrick Graham went with with in Chatto Shay.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: They lost four or five guys after the eighteen season
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: who had been good ten years each. Probably, I mean,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: but I think part of it too is just the
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: offense is such the rage right now and you see
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: all these offenses that are so you know, diverse and
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: all that, and you're like, well, is Bill Belichick going
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: to be able to come up with an offense like
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: that on the fly with some of his retreat assistants.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: That's I get it. I get it. Five five past
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: five hundred is the a ticket hut line. Let's go
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: to uh Pat No, Todd and Greenville? What's up, Todd Man.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I would not want to be a coach at New
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: England this year. I think it's gonna be a really
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: hard row. I got a bad feeling that it's just
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: it's gonna be too much, and I think we might
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: take a bit big of a step back this year.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: Why do you say that because of the personnel or
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: why do you think who's coaching the offense, who's coaching
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: the defense? All the questions that Paul brought up, and
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: I've read, you know, I read all the questions in
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: the mail bag, and I'm just the coaching in general. Okay,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: it doesn't seem to be there right now. And it's
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: too much for Bill. That's that's crazy. Okay, seventy year
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: old trying to be everything. Well, like, okay, so we're
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: it's it's February. You know, if by April first those
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: questions are answered, are you going to feel better? Depends
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: who they're answered with. Yeah, okay, but so right now,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: to you, to you the thing that can hold them
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: back as the coaching, that's that's what you're saying. I'm
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: saying it. Well, even at the draft, where are the
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: people for our draft? Right? You need the coaches kind
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: of you need some of their input. Yeah. Yeah, Well
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: it's still early in the off season though, and and
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: uh and there probably will be some news coming later
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: today that will oh oh what do you know, will
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: be some new people doing some new things. Just stay
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: too to Patriots stuff. Okay, little teaser there. Oh, I'm
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: staying on I'm staying on the computer. Then, thank dude, Okay, Todd,
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: thanks for looking. What are you saying here, dude? I
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: don't know if I can say okay, if it isn't
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: out there yet, you can't. But there's gonna be news
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: later a little bit and just some maybe a little
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: bit of rejiggering some on a scale of one to ten,
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: ten being you just signed Cam Newton, you know, one
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: being you resigned some guy in the practice squad. What
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: what's uh? What would you say? The number is probably
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: a solid three. I'm disappointed, says News. No, it's uh. Now,
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: they'll just be some some rejiggering with some roles coming
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: out this afternoon. So I just wanted to give Todd
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: a little bit of you know, I mean, look, everybody
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: wants to overact right now, but I mean it's like
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: what February fifteenth, Like, you know, you got a month
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: before free agency opens. So I agree, right now it's
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: slim pickings. You got to go into the season like this.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: It would be a little scary. But there's gonna be
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: people coming in and they take their time and check
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: back in in three weeks. Okay, Um, so what is
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: the news? He can't say, oh yeah, Kevin, and Dublin
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: writes in you heard a lot made about the second
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: year jump that players either make or are expected to
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: make in the NFL. With Mac Jones second season on
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: the horizon, I'm interested in what changes he will make physically.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: His arm strength look quite weak at times this season,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: and I can't help but feel there is room for
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: him to maybe slim down a little bit and increase
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: his speed and strength. I hate to always bring Brady
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: up as a measuring stick for Mac, but part of
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: what makes Brady's career so magnificent is the way in
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: which he improved and maintained his pocket mobility and arm
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: strength very late in his career. What advances are you
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: looking for Mac to make this summer? So? Just real quick,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: It was just it was just posted on Patriots dot com.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Matt grow has been named Director of Player Personnel, so
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: mac row has been promoted into the Ziegler role. Yeah,
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: so sorry for people that got their hosts out of that.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: I would say that about a three. Yeah, all right,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: we'll take a quick break. Paulse foods here. I'm getting
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: a procedure tomorrow which is keeping me from eating and
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: I'm not liking it at all, but we'll talk to

- 1:27:58Speaker 1: had to shovel Sunday and Monday, and yeah, I guess
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: I'm getting used to it because getting jacked up. But wow, yeah,
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: I'll commented on it a little earlier. Wow. Okay, big muscles. Uh,
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: let's get to the A sticket outline. Eldred's in North Carolina. Hey, Eldred. Hey,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: So let's how y'all do it? Good? Good? Yeah, I'm
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: under the weather too. I think my training to gave
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: of COVID. Yeah, and again he was, huh, workman's comp man,
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: you got it on the job for COVID. Yeah, not
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: for COVID. Give you a pay for a couple of
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: days out. But that's about it. Okay, but Paul, just
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: agree with you, man, I think the first pick should
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: be James William from Alabama. You're like, William's better than Michi.
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: I like William better MITCHI. Yeah, so you want to
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: take him in the first round and then not having
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: played until twenty twenty three, he's gonna play otherwise, maybe
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: I think he'll played twenty two. Maybe I'm maybe I'm thinking,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: but I was taken because Dick had him going twenty first.
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: To uh. I think the Saint or you can go
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: twenty ninth to Miami or thirty to Kansas City. The
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: one't either one of them to have him. He's the
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: one of them up for the tackle. And it's that
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: linebacker lady. Yeah, you know, twenty ninth to Miami if
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: he falls down a little bit further. So, I figured,
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: you know, that's an outside receiver, that's the go to
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: guy with Matt, because Matt do have a little history. Yeah, Now,
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: what makes you think that Williams might be able to
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: play this year? Did you hear anything that oh he might? Yeah,
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: I mean guys come back months after l but what
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: will he be? Yeah? I mean Edelman was not quite
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: right that first year he came back, you know, um,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: and he heard it in preseason. Yeah. Plus he had
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: some help getting back if you recall. Oh no, but
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: I'm saying even with the he wasn't quite Julian edam
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: in that first year. You know, was that preseason seventeen Detroit? Yeah, Well,
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: either one of those guys won't lasted the second round
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: A guaranteed to one. Okay, one of them too, Yeah,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: you know, because Georgia would have won if they had
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: those two guys. Yeah, they probably wouldn't won the championship. Yeah,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: they wouldn't won it, you know, because they went down
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: to speak Georgia. But you know, doing I think deternament
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: whatever they had and they beat them bad then, and
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: they had those guys, they was healthy. They just had
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: no receivers and Georgia took advantage of that. But but
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: I would agree that Georgia would not have beaten them.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: I would absolutely agree the difference in that game was
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: those receivers weren't ready to step up. I agree exactly.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: But and I'm not disagreeing with you about the talent
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: of the two receivers. They're great now. I think Kansas
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: City could take that because they don't need a pressing
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: guy right away to step in. Miami, I think has
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: they still have three number ones, but two a lot,
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: so maybe Miami could take one of them. I mean,
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: you know, I don't think just anybody's taken a guy
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: that maybe won't be available next year. Yeah, all right,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: let's not going to the draft, but we see. But uh,
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: but those corners that wouldn't mind having, they're gone too
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: before we even get there. So you know, like Tears
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: Stingley and when you go and the guy from all
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: from Sister Nanny, they're gonna be going in the first
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: first fifteen pie. I don't know, though, I like, I
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: really feel like this year it's all over the place
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: with all like just the different marks, the different rankings.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: I printed it out today of of they had kind
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: of like consensus rankings from some of the top outlets,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: And it's just my experience of the draft. It's just
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: I don't know what to expect. I really don't. I mean,
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: you mentioned some of them, but I don't know. I
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: could definitely see mention last until day two. Um, if
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: you're probably right on Williams, but Williams is the more
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: talented player, yeah no, yeah, but yeah he's gone. But
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: I don't know if all both Ohio State guys, um
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I think Carrett Wilson, maybe
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: you might be the one I like the most of everybody,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: but um, you know, the Ohio State guys, it's it's
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: just tough to tell. I really don't one of the
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: tackles gonna go. Now, the best Ohio State guys not
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: eligible right for the draft. Smith, that's not that one.
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: That's the one. He's he's the best oh really Yeah,
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: but he was a true freshman. I think, Okay, now
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: I think we watch these guys, but I don't. I
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: don't think. Yeah, he's not draft eligible yet, but that's
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: the most talented of the bunch. Yeah, that's what's weird.
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: And then like the Drake London guy from USC, he's
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: another one where it's it's just all over the map.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: So I don't know. Maybe there'll be more clarity as
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: you get closer. And it's also it's so hard to
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: do the draft when you don't have Yeah, you gotta
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: get it. You gotta get into a little bit and
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: need a big picture of it all. Now, Dylan in Chicago,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: listening to Paul talk about Obj's injury and how much
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: that would have changed the outcome got me thinking about
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: our Super Bowl loss to the Eagles. I've always felt
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: this way and want to get your opinions on this.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: If Brandon Cooks doesn't get knocked out in the first quarter,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: the Patriots win that game handily. Frankly, um he was
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: our number one wide out and I think was good
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: for at least one or two deep balls late in
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: the game to secure the victory. Graham might have still
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: had the strip sack, but it might have been a
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: two score game at that point. They didn't punt. Yeah,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: the Patriots didn't punt. Yeah, so how much more would
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: they have scored with Cooks? Maybe they might Some of
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: those field goals would have been, you know, deep balls
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: to Cooks instead of kicking a field goal. I don't know.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: I don't know. That seemed like a big loss at
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: the time. It's never good to lose. It's never good
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: to lose personnel during a game. But they lay in
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: a game where you score every time you get the ball.
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: It probably wasn't that they lost that game because of
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: their defense. Correct, that's my point, you know it was
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: they still allow forty one points, they're probably gonna lose.
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: It wasn't a deficiency on offense. For crying out loud,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: he's seventeen yards to right. I know you blocked them.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: I know you blocked the Brady achievements out of you.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: You probably remember everything about the strip sack. You remember, Paul,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: not me. I don't forget those. You just remember Brady's failures.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: And if Brady hadn't been striped sack and had driven,
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: he would erect even more yards. Yeah, you know, that. Well,
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: he got some yards in the next drive after that too,
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: don't forget. But but they were going to go down
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: at score, that is no doubt on. Yeah, that Cook's
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: play just drove me absolutely bonkers though, with just trying
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: to do too much, you know. And I'm never a
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: big Cooks guy, but I mean, it doesn't help to
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: lose a guy who's a big part of your offense.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: But does Danny Amadola, you know, get loose for like,
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: you know, one hundred yards that he had, right, Cooks
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: drove me. He drove me crazy too. I don't think
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: he made one cut all season to avoid a tackle.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: It was like, get the ball run straight, like he
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: never avoided a tackle. Yeah, I mean he was. And
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: then the one time he tries to do it, he
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: tries to go over the guy and he's like five ten. Well,
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: that wasn't even the play he got hurt on. That
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: was play that that Mike's talking about. He just started
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: like he had like a twenty five yards completion, cutting
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: back and turn it and got crushed Cooks And that
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: was the last time we saw him. Uh Sean and Pedaluma, California.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: You don't know, Palma, I mean, I've heard the name,
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: but I don't know. Uh, it's much about California's I
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: would think the guys he was working hard, giants state
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: he was working? Was he working hard? Notes to the
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: grindst Oh yeah, okay, writing, okay, coming up with ideas.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: I'll cut you some slack, Mike. It is a big state, guys.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: Since these defense seemed winded at the end, coaches seem
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: to use timeouts exclusively for the offense. With all these
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: close games coming down to the final minute, why not
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: call a time out and give your defense a blow
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: if a stop means winning or losing. Oh sure, yeah, yeah,
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: I don't know, Like, I don't think you called timeouts
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: on defense. What you do is you just tell a
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: guy fake an injury and then they brought your time out.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: Usually they know him to do it. You know, that
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: cast your time out? Right, what, well, the guy gets
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: two minutes, it does, but not before that. Yeah, you know.
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: It's otherwise known as the William mc ginnis rule. Right. Um,
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: let's see, I don't want to go over prospects. It's
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: too early. It's too early to do prospects. What are they?
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: What are they? Yeah? Position? Like I didn't have much
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: of a problem with clock management the other day. You know,
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: that's that's my that's my thing. You know that I
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: didn't have a huge problem with clock management. I do
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: think the play calling was the far more significant. Like
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: there's been a lot made of the nine yard game
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: that's set up second in one twenty seconds one off
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: the clock between some like that to me is not outrageous,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: like they could have called a time out whatever. But
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: another words, what I'm saying is I thought they were
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: well in position to a minimum get a game tying
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: field goal. I don't really think they ran out of time.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: They didn't. They failed to get the yards necessary. They
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: got the plays off with plenty of time, but they
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: didn't move. Let's see, who's this jan or Yann with
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: a soft j from Prague, Czech Republic, living in the
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: Netherlands with family in Rhode Island. How's David Crachie doing,
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: He says, I would like to ask, especially Paul, what
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: does he think about the Rams decision to snap the
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: ball about three seconds before the two minute warning in
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: the second half the clock was running and both teams
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: had all their timeouts. What I would need to know
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: what like down. It was I remember that I was
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: thinking about that was before? Was that before the defensive
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: holding call? Yes, then it was a good decision, okay,
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: because they needed to set themselves up that they could
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: get the ball back if they didn't get in. Yeah, Okay,
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: there you go. I mean I would say, I mean again,
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: that's just my thought is, yeah, not necessarily looking to
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: end the game with these three plays because if I
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: don't get in, yeah, I want to have time because
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: I think that play happened around midfield right right just
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: before the two minute warning. That was well before the
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: Oh was it that far? I figured they were down
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: in the red zone? No? No, No, then even more
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: so I would say, you gotta hit that. Yeah, you
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: gotta try to score in those situations and if you
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: get down, like let's say you have first and goal
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: from the eight. Now you're looking. I want to make
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: sure I stay in bounds. I want to make sure
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: I keep the clock running unless I have to. But
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: I need to get in. I mean, I need to
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: get in the end zone and score. Okay, I'm glad
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: you let us know. We have no more interaction with
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: the Fonds, Mike, because Fred has left the building. We'll
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: just have to wing it. Uh good good programming. Note.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: Uh you know I will be on my station on
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: Sunday morning for the Football Show with Teddy Johnson again.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: So I'm looking forward to that. Teddy j Re living
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: some Sunday Molorado middle linebacker Glory eight to ten. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: Teddy's a oh you freaking nerds. Yeah. I guess Felgi
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: had a problem with the fourth. I did you have
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: a huge problem with that fourth and one from the
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: forty nine. I think you go for fourth and ones. Yeah,
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: I mean unless you really backed up and they weren't.
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: I just think you need your best stuff. You go
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: with the best guys. You gotta execute, you know, you
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: gotta have the place. You gotta know that these these
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: situations are gonna pop up and you're gonna have to
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: be aggressive some of those spots. But so, who would
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: you have said was the best team in football this year?
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: Because I agree with that question that that emailer earlier
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: that said, you know, a month ago, you could have
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: said one of any number of teams. I think there
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: was a case to be made for a lot of teams. Yeah,
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: I mean I think every team that you could say
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: would be a yah butt um, But I mean Tampa,
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean I always thought they were good.
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: I mean we never got to see really fully healthy,
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: like the defense got decimated right out of the gates
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: and then their offense got decimated down the stretch, you know,
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: and I mean buffalo inconsistencies though, I mean, how do
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: you lose to you know, Jacksonville, Kansas City looked like
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: they were half asleep for three quarters of the year.
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: But I think any of those teams could probably you might,
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: I might say them before the Rams, But I also
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: think the Rams are in the conversation because they have
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: at all the pieces, you know, exactly what they were
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: going for. I'm telling you it bothers people. It bothers
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: people that someone that you know. They went out and
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: they made a dream team quote unquote, and it worked
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: and it bugs people. And they spent something like forty
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: eight million dollars on quarterback, which is another tried and
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: true way that you can't succeed if you if your
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: quarterback cap number is over you know, twelve percent of
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: the cap and there's was like twenty five percent of
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: the cap for God's sakes. Yeah, and the people don't
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: like and correct me if I'm wrong, but they've had
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: pretty good success without the first round picks as far
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: as the draft. Yeah, So that's the whole thing is
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: people fixate the fact that they haven't made a first
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: round picking like three years or four years, and they're
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: ignoring the fact that, you know, guys like Cooper cup
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: or draft picks. Yeah, you know, there's there's a lot
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: of draft picks that have really succeeded for that team. Yeah,
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: Tyler Hickby is a draft pick. Yep. Yeah, that's and
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: that's the area that you know, and I don't mean
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: this as well, we'll see, but seeing what the Patriots,
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: what happened to the Patriots because they didn't have high
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: level draft success and I think that they had you know,
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: over the last five years, they had not enough, but
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: they had some of those Day two and three guys hit.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: But you know, where are the rams two three years.
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: Are they still able to acquire that high end talent?
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: Do they have that highend talent which the Patriots don't
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: have really right now? And I think that's a big
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: reason why they're kind of stuck in the middle at
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: the moment. And you're talking about we need to get
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: those high end guys. They certainly have them this year
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: with Donald and OBJ. But what I think they'll continue
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: to do is when these guys cycle through, you know,
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: because they're probably not going to give another contract to
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: guys like Jalen Ramsey and the like, but they'll have
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: in their minds they'll either be able to go out
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: and acquire that version again because obviously they've expressed no
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: reticence to give up first round picks and take established players.
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: And now I think the president is set. I think
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: it's looking more and more in that league, like you
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: can acquire talent from other teams, whether their free agents
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: or not. It just seems like there's more trades involving
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: high profile players than you ever saw before. And when
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: you look at the Patriots, like, I mean, how many
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: of that twenty fifteen to twenty sixteen first round picks
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: are even on the team or even contributing now? So
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: the Rams traded them away the Patriots they used them.
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: But yeah, the Rams did a pretty good job in
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: the middle rounds in like nineteen twenty, you know, those drafts,
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: and that's why that they've had some success. I just
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: got the release from Matt Morrell. The official release, Matt
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: Grove named Director of player Personnel. So native of hing A,
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: mass Yeah, by the way, local kid. I got to
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: talk to him last year when we did a season
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: ticket holder, a little access thing, so I got to
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: interview him a little bit, which was a little bit
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: strange for me to jump in and be like, so
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: tell me why you know, tell me what you love
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: about these dropticks. But no, it seemed like a nice guy.
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: Maybe we get to do that again, that'd be cool.
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: Tom Greenville said I almost caused a car accident. He says,
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: I was driving back from dropping off my wife at
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: work and Fred starts yakking about it's only six inches
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: and it's not worth being taking it out. That's what
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: she said. I hope Matt was listening and can get
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: that dropped. So that was good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Frenett
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: is always listening. That is true, much more so than
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: Paul Ben's in Pittsfield on the A ticket hut line.
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: Hey Ben over, Hey guys, how you doing good? So
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: just just a two questions. Um, So, I know James
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: White got injured this season. Do you think him coming back,
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: if he comes back, will make a big difference. And
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: also in terms of getting that star wide receiver. Would
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: you like to see someone or two people from the
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: draft or do you want to see the Patriots see
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: some of that calf space pick up a free agent.
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: I'm someone that's already established themselves in the lake. All right,
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: thanks guys, Okay, thanks Ben. I'd like to see a
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: Day two draft pick. Sure, I've second a third rounder.
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: I think we're talking about on offense that are going
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: to be with Mac. The longer the better. I'd much
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: prefer to have a draft pick where it's four years
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: affordable development, you get a blank slate with them. That's
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: more preferable to me. And I mean, everybody's going to
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: bring up wide receivers like they always do, and I'm
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: gonna be guilty of it too. But I think when
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: you really look at it, how much of a really
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: critical need is it right now for twenty twenty two
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: for them to get a wide receiver, don't I don't know,
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, I certainly to take a
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: next step, they need somebody new. But I think that
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: there's other areas that really if you just look at
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: the depth chart and say who's coming back, and who
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: isn't and who's thirty four years old, and who's you
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: know in their early twenties that you know. I don't.
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: I don't see the big spending spree on free agency,
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: and I don't see the SI. But I do think
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: wide receiver is a significant need and I would like
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: to get it sooner than later, because I agree with
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: Mike in twenty twenty two, it's probably not going to
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: put you over the top, but the faster I can
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: get a quality receiver with Mac Jones, the better. Yeah.
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: So let's just say Mac makes the progression that everybody
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: hopes that he does. And some up said, he you
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: already made. Um, he says, don't you in in twenty three?
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: You want him to have a guy that he's already
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: comfortable with. You don't want to then go out and
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: be looking for a guy who would fit with receiver
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: in the system. Yeah, And I think that him develop
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: It goes back a little bit to to previous points,
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: But I mean, I think that's what you learned from
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: Brady of of you got to keep trying to get
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: those guys, those you know, game changing kind of offensive pieces,
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: whether it's tight end, whether it's wide receiver. I just
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: I don't think you can take drafts off really. Um,
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: I just I know people are gonna pound it like
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: it's the number one need that you got to go
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: just get that number one receiver. And I agree with
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: the way Paul did it. And I think that there's
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: guys you can get in the second round. They aren't gonna,
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: you know, because if you're not in the top ten,
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: it's hard to get like the guy you're gonna have
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: to make a trade off, probably someone I agree with Mike. Now,
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: what about James White? Yeah, White, now I have to check.
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: I mean, definitely, but he was a rookie and fourteen,
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: so I mean he's eight years in. I mean he's
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: he's definitely third thirties. Um, I just I don't know
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: what else there is. And there's always been such thirty
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: right now, he's thirty, just turned thirty. There's always been
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: a plan for that position, in that role, and there
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: really isn't one. And we never saw anything really from J. J. Taylor.
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: I'd bring him back, I would. I mean, how he
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: can't be expensive. He got hurt this last year. He
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: was looking good, he was you know, it looks like
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: connections yeah, he did. So Mac needs that guy. He
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: needs you know, even you know Dante said he needs
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: his bankie. Um. Now, I'm not sure if James White can't,
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: but he can certainly be an outlet for Mac reliable,
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: you know target. I wouldn't mind moving on, to be
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: honest with you, I don't know. I mean, it's a
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: serious injury. He's thirty again. I'd like to have some
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: guys that I think can be part of his development
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: moving forward. Yeah. Yeah, I squeezed another year out of him.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: Is he better than Brandon Bolden? Yep? I think Bolden
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: had a terrific year. I think James White would have
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: been better. I think you would have probably maximized more
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: of those opportunities. So I'm not suggesting that he's not
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: better than what you had, But I just wonder how
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: many more years you're gonna get out of James. I
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: think that's that's all fair. I'd also put the leadership
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: element into it, of a veteran, what guys you're gonna
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: lose this year? You're gonna lose Slater, mccordy, High Tower.
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: You know. If that's the case, I think there's also
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: something to be said for just his presence and the
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: way that guys in the running back room, you know,
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: talk about him. They love that guy. So I would
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: I would take him back. But I think Paul makes
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: valid points, and I think it's on them for not
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: drafting a guy in the last couple of years in
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: developing him to replace this role Fred and Wales right soon.
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: Which was the more stacked team last season Bucks or
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: this year's Rams? The last season Bucks, I would say,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: because I like Tom Brady better than Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: I think I think at six one a half dozen
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: the other in the Ram zone though the Bucks. So
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: also has Paul changed his mind on the Bengals after
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: their playoff run. When asked which team would he most
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: like the Patriots to face of the playoffs, he said
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: Cincinnati would be the easiest with their youth and inexperience. Yep,
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: my answer would still be that because he's nothing but stubborn. Well,
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: there's no question, there's no question that that's true. You're
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: not picking Buffalo again. The only thing I couldn't argue
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: is someone asked, someone tells me that I'm stubborn. I
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: can't argue that. But I feel like Buffalo in Kansas
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: City are both better. Listen, Cincinnati beat Kansas City and nothing.
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: No one can ever take that away from him. Yep,
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: But I think the twenty one three first half was
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: more indicative of the difference between those teams than what
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: happened after that. M Paul writes in from the Colony,
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: it's in New York. I'm in the middle of reading
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: The Dynasty now, and as an out of towner, I
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: was not aware of how strongly the local media voiced
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: their negative opinions of both Kraft and Belichick prior to
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: the two thousand and one season. Paul and Fred were
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: those writers held accountable in the subsequent years. And Paul,
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: what was your opinion as a knowledgeable fan at the time.
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: I'm not really sure. I understand. Well at the time
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: when they hired Belichick, Yeah, it was, it was. It
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: was criticized. Yeah, the decision to bring in Belichick was criticized. Yes,
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: you were on that show that night with talk Ted
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: Saranders and run off the right topin Yeah. I mean
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: you talk about the opening game of that season too,
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: against since I mean they hadn't won a home game
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: in like five six years when they beat the Patriots,
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: I mean it was off to a bad start. And
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: that was something from the Sound Odyssey that Reese said
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: that was like, you know, there was I think real
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: question about Bill Belichick going into that Week two game
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: against the Jets. I mean, I don't it's amazing. And
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: then what happened then? Uh nine eleven m um someone,
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: I think, but with with with Richard Seymour making the
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, uh Ron Borges's famous day after analysis
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: of that pick, even I even I feel that for
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: ron Board just now, with the amount of times that
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: thing gets dug up. I mean everybody's got those and
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: you know, nobody knows anything. We all talk about the draft.
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: I mean, there's gonna be a thousand things that I
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: say this spring about the draft that's probably gonna be
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: one hundred percent wrong. So I don't know. I've come
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: around on ron Board just I know it's such an
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: easy one like the David Terrell and it's easy. But
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: oh I was all in on that. That's my famous
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: I resign. It was Richard Seymour because I wanted a
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: wide receiver and I thought that they had a chance
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: to get either him or Corn Robinson because Drew was
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: the quarterback, right, Had I known that? Yeah, I mean obviously,
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: if I had known Seymour was gonna be anything like
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: what he was, I wouldn't have been so stubborn, right,
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: So if you knew he was going to be a
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: Hall of Famer, you would have been okay with it. No,
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: if I knew he was going to be an impact play, yeah,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: like you look at his college resume and did not
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: scream impact player at did instant too? When did you
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: guys notice him in training camp? Was it? Obviously? I
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: was with Barmore, I'll tell you we I think we
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: had him on the radio show Freddy Um up at
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: the old Patriots Club and just to kind of see him.
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: He wasn't built like a regular defensive lineman, like he
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: was much more lean. Yeah, Like I was like, this
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: guy's more athletic than I thought. Like I was thinking,
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: he doesn't rush the passer. He's a fatty, you know,
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: like we took it. We took a fatty with the
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: sixth overall pick. I mean, what are we doing? But
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: he was obviously built different. He was built different. As
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: the kids saying, yeah, it's just built different, right, teas
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: I used that properly he's got a check with his
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: resident millennium diffy. Oh sorry, diffy um. I don't think
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: my kids used diffy robbing the Cats skills Right York,
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: Please please do nothing draft a wide receiver. Why? Because
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: the Patriots do not know how to identify or develop
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: a receiver in the draft. I've been watching for the
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: last twenty years and they can't do it. Also, this
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: draft sets up perfectly for the Patriots needs cornerback and
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: offensive tackle. Also, I really like Shavarius Ward as a
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: free agent. Love the shows. He's safety corner for Kansas Horner.
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: All right, I think of the other Ward, Are you
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: gonna have to do something a corner if if Jac walks?
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: I mean that's I'm surprised that there isn't more kind
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: of handwringing about JC right now and they I think
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: everybody thinks she's going to be back. Yeah. I think
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: everybody thinks if they can't resign him, they'll just tag him.
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: I don't think it's that simple. I don't either. I
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: think think you for your service and good luck. Yeah,
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: rage and Saint Louis. I was thinking about this defense rebuild,
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: and I keep going back and forth on the JC
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: Jackson decision. On one hand, he hasn't shown the ability
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: to shut down elite receivers like Diggs, Lamb, etc. But
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: on the other hand, he is by far the best
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: option in the free agent market, and the best corners
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: in the draft will be gone by pick twenty one.
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: So I always come down to three questions. One, what
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: will oh boy, I didn't even eat and I got
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: a little coming home. What will be the demand on
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: the open market for J. C. Jackson? Very high? Second question,
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: how many true lockdown corners are there in the NFL.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: I can only count four Ramsey, Alexander, Trey White and
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: a healthy Gilmour. JC is firmly. JAC is firmly in
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: that next tier of guys with Humphrey, Howard, Diggs, etc.
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: And if we keep holding out for one of those
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: top tier guys, then we'll keep searching for years and three.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: With the increased proliferation of passing in the league, is
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: it better to have higher variants players? If you take
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: modern baseball as an example for defensive building, either you
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: strike out, give up big yards on a big play,
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: or hit a home run get a turnover each plate appearance.
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: Each plate appearance, I prefer a lockdown guy. But maybe
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: with analytics and all that, these all or nothing players
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: will become common. Whose are they all or nothing players?
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: For Von Diggs? That's it, That's what he mentions. But
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: that's it. Yeah, So I don't think that's a trend.
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: I just I was thinking about it a little bit.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: I think everyone now assumes that they're looking for man guys,
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: and I just wonder if maybe they shift and they
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: put less priority and guys who can play man coverage
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: and travel and just play get draft, really tough, good
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: tackling corners that can play off and his zone, and
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: you know, those are the kind of guys to maybe
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: deal with, you know, Josh Allen Patrick mahons, guys that
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: can run like I do agree with him. Like, if
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: you're if you're you know, hell bent on like a
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: true lockdown, shutdown corner, you're gonna be waiting there. You
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: either got a high picker or spend bunch of money.
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: But especially if you don't think like I don't love Jackson,
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: but I like him and I do think he's that
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: kind of player. So if you don't even put Jackson
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: in that category, then there are even fewer and few
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: like because like, to me, Zavy and Howard would be
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: in that category. He didn't have him in there, right,
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: He had him in the next year with Jackson. Right,
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: So if that's what you think, then yeah, you probably
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: should try to hold on to him. Yeah, I mean
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: that's the thing. It's like you keep I keep going
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: back to that. It's like, if not him, who you
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: know and a couple of them. Now go back the
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: previous emailer that had Ward from Kansas City, you know,
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: and it doesn't have to be him individually, but a
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: serviceable starter is that worth it for like a Jalen
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: Mills contract as opposed to giving him twenty million a
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: year to Jackson. So that's the you know, those are
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: the kinds of things that they way back and forth. Now, personally,
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: I'll take the talent. If I thought Jackson was better,
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: I want Jackson. But it doesn't always work that way
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: with the way they do things. Sometimes it's value and
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: how they can fit the structure in and all that stuff.
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: Claire writes in Hello everyone, Hello Marine. Hello. Apologies for
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: the self indulgence, But when I emailed in last week
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: requesting the tight End coaching job, should Nick Kayley move
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: to the OC if why. I like Kayley, big fan
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: of his work, but not especially interested in his tight end.
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: I was beyond amused at Deuce's quiet despair in me,
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: and even more Eric and Paul's tones of it's just
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: so obvious she likes tight ends. I love you guys
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: so much. Okay, so my question, the mass offensive exodus
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: to Vegas has me concerned? Should I be? Or is
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: this just a regular situation and you guys aren't worried?
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: I think you should be. Yeah, the mass exodus? Yeah,
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: how's it going to translate to mac I didn't. I
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: mean again, I think that's the piece that have You're
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: moving forward the Patriots. You want him to be the
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: guy and to build around him, to have a plan.
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: And you know, right now, as we sit on February fifteenth,
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: this doesn't really seem like there's you know, you're not
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: building the next great offense here here yet. So but
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: moves to come. Moves to come, I hope, I hope
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: if it's if it's something more non offensive specific and
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: just another coach comes back that maybe isn't that much
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: of an expert on the offensive side of the ball,
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: I'm going to be concerned. James Pettigrew, the most interesting
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: Patriots fan of the world, says, uh, you know about
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: paying players. He says, whoever you overpay today will be
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: underpaid tomorrow. That's largely true too, which is why if
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: I felt like Jackson was better, I would go with him,
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: because I got yere three or four right, Like, you know,
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: like I agree with that knows the cap going. I
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: agree with that notion. At some point you got to
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: pay for the talent. And he's right, like, when you
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: sign these big deals, they don't look quite as as
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: owner to two three years in sometimes yeah, as long
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: as they hit, as long as they're good, as long
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: as you're investing big money and players who play well, right,
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: that's the key homes Like at the time, people are like,
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: oh my god, nobody's gonna care as long as he
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: continues to play the way he's played so far. Yeah,
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: just to play the other side of the street. Though,
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: There's there's another part of this, which is just like
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: this is one of the rare players that you developed
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: and found and can play at a high level here,
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: Like it just seems like too many of those guys
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: have come and gone and gotten paid elsewhere. You know,
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: Joe Tuoney is the most recent example, but you've got
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: one in house. He likes being here. Figure it out.
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: I see that. That's apples to apples. Yeah, undrafted cornerback right,
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: they both got big money deals. You know. Let's see
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: if the Patriots give it to Jackson. All right, that's
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: gonna be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We'll
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: be back Thursday. Um, who knows, maybe another big number
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: three on the Richter scale announcement. Maybe Eric will be back, yes, possibly,
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: all right, talk to you then. Thank you for downloading
