All right. Dailey Gee: Well come through. Dillon: yeah, you'll come through for us. Let's get into it. So let's start out with the whole Mark Mitchell drama, fellas. just to recap real quick. On August 21st, there was a Kentucky judge who granted Mark Mitchell and the other class of 2022 the temporary restraining order, giving them another potential year of college eligibility and the access to the transfer portal. Reason why they went there is because they didn't know about this, right? It wasn't fair to them. The class before them and after them is going to be able to do it. This is the only class. And like, hey, what about us? So that's where that led to. On August 22nd, the next day, Mark Mitchell entered the portal and commits to Kentucky, becoming a huge late addition for Mark Pope and this Kentucky team. All of us were excited, we're pumped. but then as always felt, you know, it seems like it's been like this for a little while now. there's a little bump in the road. There was an SEC problem. there was an interconference transfer rule that which created that problem for Mark Mitchell and others on August 31st. Rather than continuing the legal fight with the SEC, Mark Mitchell decommits from Kentucky and re-enrolls to Missouri. And and you know, looking at this, get fellas, everything I've read and understood, it was just a timing issue. Is that the way you took it daily? It was just something that It was a better, safer route for him to go. Can't really blame the kid. Not really Mark Pope at fault. It just was a timing issue and he was just gonna have to fight legal battles and this was just a safer route. Is that kind of how you see it? Dailey Gee: Yeah, from a k Kentucky fan standpoint, it's just as unfortunate as it gets. I mean, but like you said, it seems like we've been on this constant roller coaster. We've had our highs and we've had our lows. And no, you you you can't fault Mark Pope. You can't fault Mark Mitchell. it's just unfortunate. And the the frustrating thing of it all is you see guys like Denzel Aberdeen transferring in conference, going back to Florida, then you have Micah Hanlockdon, I believe Arkansas got a guy. and it that it it's just frustrating to see that, especially as the SEC's number one program, their most storied program. it's just frustrating. Dillon: Yeah, and you know, it's almost as if like there is a there is a that that crowd that says blame Mark Pope. But I just don't think that crowd really knows what's going on. They're just trying to find a way to throw Mark Pope some more shade, right, Ethel? You know, like looking at this situation, yes, I can hear the argument that like we should not be in late August, in September, trying to find Another roster spot and fill in that 15th roster spot, right? We shouldn't be here. I can hear that argument, yes. But that also allowed us to get Mr. Milan Mobchilovich. Okay. You can say that we shouldn't have also had to wait with Tyron Stoke when everything was saying he's going to Kansas. I can hear that. But for this specific issue with Mark Mitchell, this wasn't hey, Mark Mitchell, do you want to go to Kentucky or do you want to go to Missouri? Both is on an equal playing field. Choose your team. He would have chose Kentucky. I fully one hundred percent believe that. But you can't blame the kid. The the kid's going to have a better opportunity and he's going to go make millions of dollars because he's not going to probably be an NBA guy. I mean, this is not Mark Pope's fault. Right, Ethel? I mean, is that how you're taking it too? Tyler Ethridge: I mean, there's there's no way you can blame Pope for the situation to happen. Pope got him there, he committed, he was coming to play, and then the SEC commissioner come out and said, If you make a transfer in conference, you're not going to play this year. So Dillon: Do they have it against Kentucky though? Does Greg's kind d like does he just does does he have something a personal vendetta against Kentucky? Tyler Ethridge: I would really say it's I mean, he's he's just an old bitter dude. I would mainly just say that they're just gonna try and sweep this under the rug. But legally, I don't know if they're gonna be able to do it. Like when you th when it's when all push comes to shove, if a court passes that they're allowed to play, they're gonna be allowed to play. There's not gonna be nothing the N C double A can do about it. Not unless Dillon: It's got Tyler Ethridge: they ban the whole entire class. Dillon: Well, and that's there there is a real world where you could see the Keyshawn Hall, the Jackson Collier, the Mark Mitchell not all play and nobody. There I mean th that could happen, but there is also the world, which being a Kentucky fan, probably is gonna happen that we had all three on our list we tried well not tried to get, but w we was like looking into, and they all get to play just playing not at the University of Kentucky. I mean I Dailey Gee: I I I wanna go back to what you said about it being a Kentucky problem. That's the only way you can perceive it right now. I mean, it now, c because that's the only scenario that it's happened to. but why? Why like why would you do it to y one, like I just mentioned, your most storied program, your program that's gonna bring in the most revenue for your conference, why would you why would you almost punish them? I mean it and they're not necessarily punishing them, but you're not helping them in any way. And you would think that I mean, we want to claim that the SEC is the best conference in every Dillon: Mm-hmm. Dailey Gee: sport and Tyler Ethridge: With the best players. Dailey Gee: Right, and then and we always make the best decisions. So why would you not let one of the better players in the SEC last year go to the best program in the SEC if you're serious about your conference? Dillon: well the Kentucky success is the SEC success, right? Like Dailey Gee: Exactly. Dillon: like even last year, I forgot what it was, but you would see that like we were still ranked at the top of you know viewership. And the reason why is because of Kentucky. I mean, Kentucky fans, right? Like that there's a reason why that continuously, whether we be mediocre, good, great, like we're still gonna be at the top because you have such a passionate fan base behind them. Dailey Gee: Absolutely. Dillon: Which leads me into this next thing is you you well that don't lead me into but let's get into that part is so Mark Mitchell makes that decision and then immediately you see this video of Mark Pope with his current team, the fourteen man roster that he has currently. If you all that are listening have not seen this video, it's basically Mark Pope with his team, and I take it as a direct response of what has happened. I don't know who he is trying to I guess. Target in it, but pretty much so what he says is take everything you want. There are no shortcuts. There's no easy way out. Nobody is going to do you any favors here at the University of Kentucky. And his biggest I guess phrase that everybody was like, okay, I like that is eat what you kill. And Ethan, when I heard that, I one, I was happy to see it. Like I I'm glad he said something. Like, yes, let like let's turn this into something positive. Let's let's use this as motivation, right? They're not gonna give you anything. Nobody wants you to succeed here. They don't want us they they that they don't want us to to see us succeed. However, though, if there is another thing that I will say, Ethel, is that man, like it was a great motivational like speech or like little discussion, but there's still just that awkwardness, like Does it really get you hyped up like the the the Will Stein who was like whenever he says something, you're just like, my goodness, let me run through a wall. I don't Dailey Gee: Yeah. Dillon: know if you all felt that way, but that's the way I took it. Like I I really liked it. I love that he done it, but there's still just something missing about it. Tyler Ethridge: I mean, Pope is Pope is really different. When you think of Mark Pope, he's a very analytical guy. He's not, he's not your typical John Calipari, Coach K, Bill Self. He's he's different. He's Mark Pope. Whether you love him, you hate him, you don't like him, whatever. He's got his own way of doing things. And it it is different. He's not, he's not the kind of guy that's gonna make you run through a wall, but he's had his moments of where he gets fired up. And where Dillon: Mm-hmm. Tyler Ethridge: you're like, Well, we need to see this more often. Yeah, Dillon: Yeah, where have you been? Tyler Ethridge: like he has his moments where you see him on the sideline. He he may drop an like a F bomb or something. You're like, Whoa, who's this guy? Like where'd Dillon: Ha ha ha. Tyler Ethridge: he come from? But he's just different. Dillon: That's not my coach. Tyler Ethridge: Yeah, he's just he's just a different guy. Dillon: Daley, I I do want to touch on something real quick. You have a Mark Pope shirt on. So I'm as like I'm assuming Mark Pope keeping the faith. All right, I like it. You know Dailey Gee: John Ross sound special. Dillon: I I think I think from here you the next question is like what happens? Where do where do we go from here? And I guess this is You know, I'm just gonna go on my little rant. So give me just a couple of minutes and then we'll we'll like we'll talk about it because it I after seeing all of this unfold, giving it a couple of days, what I'm seeing, what I'm hearing, what I'm watching from Kentucky fans and others, and well, no, not others, just just Kentucky fans. My what are we doing? Like what what's what is what is going on with the Kentucky fan base? Listen, I am I totally understand it. If you are the ones that are saying, well, Mark Pope's not qualified. He never was qualified to be here. And I get that. I hear that. I understand that. And I actually agree with you. Mark Pope was not qualified to become the University of the Kentucky basketball coach. I agree with that. However, though, hearing these people say, Well, this team's just gonna finish eighth to twelfth in the SEC, they're gonna Not make it to the weekend, the SEC tournament. they're they're still just they're not going to be very good. So it's just gonna be the same team as last year. Like, what are we doing? Why why are you saying that? Like, we have not even watched this team touch the court yet. You're telling me that these guys that we have right now cannot be competitive. Is there gaps to fill? Absolutely. Do we still probably need to work on defense and our intensity and rebounding? Yes, I I totally understand that. But don't give me that. Like, why are we why are we doing that? Like, what are you doing as a Kentucky fan right now? And I'm talking to Kentucky fans right now. Like, come on, guys. What like be a negative Nelly and the pessimistic? Like, what are you doing? This is the most crucial year for your coach. This is Mark Pope. This is it. This is the line. This is where Mark Pope proves either he is going to be able to prove that he can be the coach here or he can't. And for me There is a time to be critical. If you've watched our show, if you know anything about these reels that we put on, you have seen that we have been critical of Mark Pope. And there is going to be a time to be critical. But that time to be critical is whenever we are seeing the product on the floor. We haven't even seen this product on the floor yet. You cannot convince me that this team is not going to be competitive or good. Now, what does good look like? I don't know. But for the one saying, well, I'm just a realist. I'd just like to call it how it is. You watch, you'll see, you'll get on here. No, I won't get on here and do that because I'm not saying that they won't, but I'm not going to say that they will either. What I'm saying is be a Kentucky fan. He is your head coach. At what point do you think you being negative, Nelly, and pessimistic is going to change anything? He is still going to be our coach. He is still going to be leading this team. So until proven otherwise, I'm talking until I am proven otherwise. Why in the world would I not want to support my team and my coach, regardless of how you feel about Mark Pope and his coaching and his recruiting? Like, let's do that in real time. But for now, we have some guys who have proven themselves on the other teams. Yes, different conferences. I get that. I hear that. But At the same time, these guys listen. These guys are seeing. You can't convince me that these players are not seeing some of the stuff that's being said. And yes, it has nothing to do. Yes, they should be able to take it. Yaddy yaddy this, yadda yadda. I don't care. Be supportive. You're taking the fun out of being a Kentucky fan in any fan base at that point. Like, how in the world can you go into a season without seeing the team actually play a single minute and say that they're not going to be good or great? This isn't just some roster we picked up off the street. This is a good team. We have players who That are cap that capable of playing good and being competitive. Let's be critical when it's time to be critical. Come on. Like I I'm tired of it. Like we have got to be supportive of this team and this coach until until proven otherwise. And that's my rant. I I I man, it's just it's aggravating me. Y'all take it away. Dailey Gee: Well, you can you can't like you looking at paper, they're if you're just looking at the paper, three years of our roster, is this not the best team we've had? On paper. What like you said, we Dillon: Absolutely. Dailey Gee: we've not seen play. We've seen highlights of them at practice, you know. We s very competitive, by the way. Everybody's saying practices have completely changed. why why else would you not be optimistic? It's almost like The fa it is. It it's not almost. It is. The fan base is almost divided in half. And actually it's probably more the other side of I'm a Pope fan or I'm not a Pope fan. Why can't we just be Kentucky fans? Like it it doesn't matter who the coach is. Like we all grew up Kentucky fans and it didn't matter who the coach was. Now we were blessed with John Caliperi, who had a lot of success here. And w here lately we went through some adversity. but we're Kentucky fans at the end of the day. The coach does not dictate our fandom. It shouldn't. It doesn't matter who the coach is. Dillon: Well, Ethel, I I I just I gotta calm down, I guess. But I just I'm sitting here thinking about you you're looking like being part of a fan, it just takes a it sucks out the energy and the the fun of being like, okay, this is a new year, like maybe this is it, right? Like, how can you already be having those judgments? And I would get it if the team that we constructed had no proven players who hadn't had good successful seasons somewhere. But you're talking about a Milan Momchilovic who is the number two ranked player in the portal. You're talking about a Alex Wilkins who was a dog. Now I know, I know, it was not at a big time SEC, AC, I get it. where was that Furman, right? But Dailey Gee: yeah. Yeah. Dillon: like you but then you have a Zoom Diallo who has been pre We have a a second year Malachi Marino who could have went in the draft. Now I don't know if he would have been selected, but like This isn't a team that is absolutely on paper terrible. I just like why can we not just be at least optimistic until proven otherwise? Tyler Ethridge: It's just you have so many people that's out on Pope and you have some people who's not. Like, I mean, look, he's my coach. I gotta deal with it. You know, you think I enjoyed the last four years of John Caliperi getting bounced in the first round and missing a tournament? Absolutely not. But I also wasn't the guy crying to fire a cow because he was my coach. I dealt with it. I love Kentucky. I love the players we get. So just suck it up and deal with it. But here's my thing, like Our fan base is just so toxic. Like you hear other people talk about it and it just really is like you look back to last year. We beat Purdue, we're gonna go to the final four. Then we're halfway through the season. Man, we ain't gonna make the tournament. They just need to get rid of Pope and just go out and throw the bag at Danny Hurley. that'd be nice, guys, but he done said no once and he'll say no again. So I think you just suck it up and you deal with it, and we got what we got, and he's put together a good roster. It's not like Dillon: Well Tyler Ethridge: he's got scrubs out there. Dillon: Well and yeah, that's my biggest thing. Like it'd be different if we sitting here looking at this roster and they're a bunch of scrubs and and like like what's going on, buddy? Like yeah, and again, like I have been on here and Colton and Mason has too, and I'm sure other people that you've already listened to has been critical. Like, but that's okay. Like even Mark Pope himself, hey, listen, man, be critical. Like, not me personally, but he said on KSR like if there's a time that I'm not doing my job, hold me accountable. Call me out. Like, okay, we will. But at that Dailey Gee: Mm. Dillon: same time, you just gotta be at this point of the season, aka preseason, not even started the season. Why are you already basing these judgments? I just I I I don't understand it. So now that that's out of the way, let's cut, let's come together. Like let's let's at least give him a chance. Like this is it. This is it. Where do we go from here? Is there anybody that Mark Pope can actually make a move in? I'll be honest with you all. I don't even know that we're actually allowed to. Do you all have any insight? I've looked into I don't I I couldn't gather anything that persuaded me to to understand or even know that, you know, I do know that in Mark Mitchell's case, he had to be enrolled in two classes. That's why he decommitted because Missouri started that day. Like he that was the last day, right? And the reason why he committed to us was because that was the last day you could enroll. I don't know the rulings and honestly with the way college basketball or not just even college basketball college sports are, I'm sure there may be a gap or something you could do. I just don't know, but I really don't know that we could even go get somebody at this point. This may be just the team that we have, which is fine. That's fine. I'm okay. We'll we'll just rock with this team. But do you all have any like d were you all able to gather anything? Can we? Do y'all know? Dailey Gee: I I think you can. I just as far as if they're going to, if they should, if it's not gonna be somebody that's gonna have an impact, I don't see why you would. bec because I mean he's put a fourteen man roster together, the staff. They all feel like these guys can ch can contribute. like you said, I don't know how with the class to start and that makes it a little difficult. But it's you know, it's just I I don't know. I I think they can, but like I said, if it's not gonna be somebody that's gonna have an impact then why would you? Tyler Ethridge: It's all about finding somebody that fits too. Like Mark Mitchell fit. He was just a gold mine sitting there. We stumbled upon it. We drabbed it. Is there gonna be another guy like that pop up? I know Kay Tyson from Minnesota, stud, but how does he fit into the lineup? Where does he go? Where do you move Milan to? What happens Dillon: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Tyler Ethridge: there? Dillon: Well, so let's go there. Kay Tyson. For the ones who don't know, that's one of the big names that's kind of left in in the portal. I don't know that we could actually go get him. I really don't. But just real quick, just a little understanding of who Kay Tyson is. He's a six seven forward. He averaged 19.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and he shot the three ball from 41.3 or 41.3%. He's a stretched four, pretty much. That's kind of what Mark Pope, that's what he loves to get. That's what Mark Mitchell was going to be able to bring. He actually shoots it better than Mark Mitchell at three land. but on July 31st, Kay Tyson was part of that class that originally won their case in Colorado that the judge gave them their injunction, but then the NCAA appealed that on August 21st, and that appeal court hit a pause pretty much. So right now Tyson is back to ri being ineligible to play his fifth season. However, though, things can change very quickly. I think it just goes back to this team, there's so much of the unknown. Right. That that that's the biggest question mark. It's kinda like Kentucky football. It's a it's a big unknown as far as players. Nobody really knows. We'll just have to see and find out ourselves. How do we think this team can be good? I think we all agreed and said that, yes. But I just don't know what good looks like compared to other teams that we're playing against. I just don't know, right? it's just a big question mark. Dailey Gee: Well I Tyler Ethridge: Talent wise it's there. Talent wise it's there. I mean, if you think back to Pope's first year when he got there, this team is more talented than Jackson Robinson and way that couldn't shoot. And a butler with that was banged up. This team's got more talents. Can they play defense? That that's my biggest thing. If this team could come out and be a top 15, top 25 team in the country in defense, you're looking at a pretty solid team because they're definitely going to be able to shoot the three ball. I mean, that that's a like Milan, pure shooter, shoot anywhere, just disgusting shooter. And you look around, McBride can shoot it. in Dye or whatever can shoot it. Moreno's developing a little. Yeah. Dillon: If Hawthorne, nobody knows anything about Hawthorne. Like it's just so many question marks. And I think, you know, you bring in McBride. Justin McBride could be the biggest. I mean, obviously we have to have Milan be Milan. We have to have Malachi Marino be a second year Malachi Marino, what expectations are. The biggest question mark, though, is that four spot, which we thought we solidified with Mark Mitchell. Justin McBride, Nadia, Hawthorne. Somebody has to step up. Somebody has to be able to be like, hey, fellas, listen. I may not be the guy, but I can be a guy that will allow you all to be the guys. And ultimately, what Mark Mitchell was I was he going to be, was he was probably going to be the guy, which then would allow other guys to be a guy, if that makes any sense. Tyler Ethridge: Yeah. Dailey Gee: Yeah, yeah, for sure. Dillon: Daly, we gotta talk about it. He comes up on the show just because I don't know how. But John Calperry John Calipari Dailey Gee: Ha ha. Dillon: had some comments. just real quick and brief. John Calipari made a a comment. He he stated, I like what the SEC is doing. If a player doesn't like what the SEC is doing, what? Go to another league. And then he also said some other things, but that was pretty much the gist of it. And then referencing to like what coaches need to be doing. I what was your thoughts on that whole situation whenever he came out? Like it was just typical, typical. John Calipari being a politician and sticking his nose where nobody cares. What are you doing? But go ahead. What what what was your thoughts on that? Dailey Gee: Yeah. Well of course of course Cal is not gonna be for it because who what does he recruit? For the most part, he is recruiting high school. he's getting freshman, yeah. And the funniest part of it all, the most ironic part of it all, is if Cal was at Kentucky and this situation happened to him, how would he be responding to this? I mean it would have been a complete it would have been it would have been a completely different it would have been Kentucky against Dillon: Freshman. he would say everybody's out against him. Tyler Ethridge: Not fair to his kids. Dailey Gee: Yeah, it it it have been Kentucky against the Dillon: Ha ha ha. Dailey Gee: world. And, you know, look at this kid, like, look what he grew up w you know, you know, it it's it's the same Dillon: Don't he deserve to make a lot of money? Dailey Gee: old sappy story he always gave with everything. And so I don't know. I always get fired up talking about Calebary. Dillon: No, bring it. I like it. I mean like i i it's it's it's ridiculous. It is. whether you're a cow guy or you're not a cow guy, I would hope that people who are big Caliper fans can see that that is such a hypocritic statement. Dailey Gee: It's ironic. Yes. It's the most iron. Tyler Ethridge: Well, if you really think, if you really think back before you get on your rant here, Daly, didn't he say something about how these G League players needed a backtrack way to get into college again? He said something along those lines a couple years back of how some of these kids like Jalen Green, when they was going straight to the G League, if it didn't work out for them, they needed a way back into college, is exactly what he said. So Dailey Gee: Yeah. Tyler Ethridge: what's different now when you've got These older COVID players still playing, like twenty-five, twenty-four year olds. What's different in a twenty-four year old Mark Mitchell and the twenty-five year old kid from Mizzou last year or from USC last year? Cal Baker Cat what was his name? Baker Dailey Gee: Baker was alright. Chair Baker was on. Yeah. Dillon: biker lip Mazar Tyler Ethridge: I mean, he was twenty-five. Like what's the difference in him playing last year and Mark Mitchell being a year younger and playing this year? Dailey Gee: I mean, it's Dillon: Yeah. Dailey Gee: just it's just frustrating because it and I try not I'm I'm not worried about Cal now. I'm really not. And but it's always like he tries to have a comment regarding anything to Kentucky. It doesn't matter what it is. He's always trying to make a jab back at Kentucky. Dillon: He's a politician. Dailey Gee: That's what it is. And it's it's I don't know, he it's I don't know. I it's just frustrating because of like you said, it's very hypocritical. And if he he was in Mark Pope's shoes, we would be seeing way more things out in the media. Dillon: yeah, absolutely. And and it it's just I I think there's still that that X attachment aspect of it too. whenever Dailey Gee: I mean for sure, for sure. Dillon: I have that chance to throw shade, you best believe I'm throwing it and you better put the chin up and be ready to take it, right? Like there there's still Dailey Gee: Yeah. Dillon: there there's still some remorse, for sure, with the way things went down with the fans leading up to Cal's last two or three years and then how the whole Him and I just went blank. What's the our not J Bat, our previous Dailey Gee: Mitch Barnhart. Dillon: Mart Mitch Martinhart where they sat down together and was like holding hands and like together we're in this together. And then Dailey Gee: Yeah. Dillon: all of a sudden the next like day, Caliper's gone to Tyson Foods, Arkansas. He's gone. I'm like, What? What Dailey Gee: Easy to hold him. Dillon: in the world? Like y'all just got on there and basically was showing that you are together and we're one. get out of here. I I kinda i'm not really worried about john caliper either daily i just thought it was like really really come on now well let Dailey Gee: Yeah. Yeah. Just keep your mask up. Dillon: let let's kind of close that chapter let's stay optimistic let's be actual fans of the university of kentucky until proven otherwise and let's now flip the script and let's get into some Kentucky football fellas I don't know it's it's been a long time since I was this excited For a kickoff for the University of Kentucky. So it's game week. University of Kentucky plays their home opener and opener this Saturday against Youngstown State. So for Kentucky, this is the debut of the Will Stein Air. This is what we've been waiting for. Okay? Now, Mr. Will Stein has Went on the offseason and made some big time moves in recruiting, whether it be PR moves and statements, his his his famous phases, feed the studs, if you're scared, go to church. Why are you gonna be good because of me? Like he has really set the bar high before even coaching a single game. I mean he's not he's not been a head coach ever, which then takes me back to like at this point, like Are we going to be negative Nelly for him? No, we're all positive, right? Because we're not we're gonna be that way. so it is the debut. Now there's a lot of talk too, also about Kenny Minchie. Never took a single snap as a starter. Okay. The big blue wall is reported to be top two, three in the country. Like we're Dailey Gee: Mm-hmm. Dillon: the big blue wall is back. Just a lot of headlines. but We go into this game playing against a Youngstown State who is ranked number seven in the FCS. and they actually they actually have a pretty good quarterback. Bo Brungard. Now, right now coming into this game, Youngstown State is one and I forgot who they played. Do y'all remember who they played? I have some team I do. Dailey Gee: Mercy Hearst. Dillon: Mercy Hearst. That is correct. Mercy Hearst. but Dailey Gee: No. Dillon: Bo Brungard Is the guy to watch out for, fellas. he had 351 total yards and five touchdowns in the opener and was the FCS offensive player of the year last year. Now, is the FCS and the SEC a lot different? Absolutely. Absolutely. However, though, if there's anything that you're looking at for this this game in particular, before we get to a couple of our players, What are you most excited about? Like what what what what are what do you what intrigues you the most about this? And we'll let's throw it over to Ethel. Ethel, what's the the biggest thing for you that it that has you excited about Saturday? I know it's against Youngstown State, but there's still gotta be some excitement, right? Tyler Ethridge: I just want to go out on the limb and say I'm the idiot that gets excited for Kentucky football every year. I always hype it up and end up destroying myself by the time we play Old Miss. So usually I'm pretty hyped coming in the year. But this year it's different. I mean, new face, completely different offense, completely different defense, new staff, new players. Man, it's just it's a lot of unknown, but there's also a lot of room for that excitement. I mean You brought in a quarterback from Notre Dame. What's he gonna be like? You brought in a bunch of new weapons for him. Do you talk about the offensive line being one of the best? I mean, there's there's a lot to be excited for. But really and truly most exciting thing is Kenny Mitchie. I I'm really I I'm excited. I wanna see what he's got. He's he's bringing me back some of that Levis love I had back when we first got Levis. Like when we landed Will Levis, I was like, man, this is this is gonna be it. Levis and Wandell. Dillon: Mm-hmm. Tyler Ethridge: I'm getting some Levis and Wandell vibes and there's room for that. I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but there is a possibility of this guy could be our Will Levis of that year. Dillon: Well, I think it's interesting too. I don't know if you all seen the statements that Will Stein put out about Kenny Minchie. Basically he was saying, and don't quote me on this, but pretty much he's like, Listen, dude, you we we don't need you to be a LeBron James. We don't need you to be a Michael Jordan, we don't need you to be a Tom Brady, we just need you to be Kenny Minchie. And it kind of was funny too, because we're like, We don't none of us really know who Kenny Minchie is. Like we we like we don't really have a baseline to go off of. But yeah, I agree. Like we we just need you to Do you, right? You you don't have to be nothing special. And I I take that is that that day lead he made those statements because Will Stein truly believes in his his scheme. Like he he truly and he's proved it at Oregon. Like he he has a great track record of quarterbacks. He has a a nit he he's able to find the right quarterback for that team, right? So when looking at that though, I wouldn't As much as we are excited about Kenny Minchie, I don't really think that we should should expect Kenny Minchie to be this unbelievable talent and and just like, wow, that like you know, that kind of wows you. I expect Kenny Minchie to be a guy who doesn't make mistakes, who makes the right throws. We've heard all about his accuracy, right? And that's really all we need, especially if our big blue wall can be the big blue wall that we're saying that it is. Let the run game be the run game. We will also throw in Some schemes that are going to be able to be like, okay, this is definitely not a Mark Stoops team where we have to just run the ball every single down and not have any spark or magic to it. that's the way that I took that statement. But for you, Daly, when looking at that this roster, how important is it for this Kentucky team to not only I guess win. But win big against a Youngstown state, like do you think that there's a sense of urgency for them to prove to themselves, like, hey, we really are the real deal this year. Like, even against a Youngstown state, we're gonna come out, we're gonna we're gonna pound you. We're gonna we're we're gonna put you in the ground. Because I think that that is important not only for Will Stein, but also this team, because it's one of those first game of the season, you're a little Anxious, l all everything is unknown, like Ethel said. So you wanna start off hot, especially with this fan base rallying behind you. Dailey Gee: Yeah, no, it clearly, I mean, you want to start the season off hot. Now there's gonna be mistakes, you're gonna make mistakes. there's no doubt about it. the biggest thing for me, the goal that I wanna see, I'm not worried about how bad they're gonna be. I mean they're gonna Kentucky's gonna win. I'm not necessarily worried about that. I want to figure out who are gonna be those playmakers because we talk about the only solidified positions on offense is the offensive line and the tight ends. And of course you have Willie Rodriguez and Mikhail Skinner, Elijah Brown, I mean Hunter Boyer, you got tight ends for days. and now with the latest news of Hardley Gilmore, who's gonna be that guy out wide? Who's gonna be the receiver? The running backs, okay, you got C J Baxter, there's a lot Dillon: Yeah, that's what that's what I was gonna say. I'm I I think is gonna be important for us, but go ahead. Dailey Gee: There's a massive question mark on him more than anybody with all the injuries he's dealt with. Tyler Ethridge: Yeah. Dailey Gee: because we we Stein talks about feeding the studs, getting the ball downfield, making big plays. But in the SEC, you've got to be able to run the ball. And we need to on first downs, we've got to dominate first downs. Also, we'd be remiss to mention that Alex Safari is now eligible. You might have you might have been getting ready to say that. But Dillon: No, go ahead, I had it, but you go ahead, get into it. Dailey Gee: but that definitely helps the defense. The defensive line was already pretty good. the linebackers needed some help, definitely. They'll have Tavion Wallace, Dillon: Mm-hmm. Dailey Gee: and him. I I'm I'm going blank on the others. Grant Godfrey, the secondary's good, Nichols, of course we got Castle. so I I'm game one, let's just call it as it is. They're not gonna say this, Kentucky's not gonna say this, but it's a tune up for Alabama. And all I wanna see for me as a fan is I just wanna get I wanna see who all's gonna be out there making plays. Dillon: Yeah. No, and I I love the I love that you said it's a tune up. It is, it is, it really is a tune up, but it's also like, hey, prove to ourselves we belong and that we can go in this game. I I'm glad you did bring up Alex Safari. So Alex Safari was eligible, then wasn't el eligible, but now got his injunction and he is back now being eligible. He actually got in the case with who was the Louville guard from North Carolina? Tyler Ethridge: Remember Dailey Gee: Sure. Dillon: Tremble, yes. that he was able to get in and and that absolutely helps that that specifically that position in the linebacker. Like that was something that you know, people that were inside insiders look at like, listen, we this is a spot that we really could use. So big time that we was able to get him back. Now then that lies the question, Ethel, like because of all that he was eligible, he wasn't eligible, he was eligible, it's kinda like, okay, is he where is he at? Where's his conditioning? Where's he at with this team? That that that that kind of raises a question, but then you're also talking about a guy who was a four-year starter who, if Given gets to play every single game this year, will probably go down as the taking the most snaps in a Kentucky football jersey. So I I I'm not really too concerned about that. athletes will still be athletes is the way I look at it. Tyler Ethridge: He's I I'm sure his team has been working him regardless. Like they've been planning on he's going to play this year. So I'm sure he's ready to go. Dillon: when looking at okay, so let's talk about this thing real quick. There's just not a lot to there might be some people like, man, y'all are not giving us a lot. Well, hey, there's nothing to know about this team. Like it it it's all the unknown, right? I mean, and I'm not gonna sit in here and talk about Youngstown State and FCS school who's only played Mercy Hearst and beat them 43 to 10. I mean, their quarterback Dailey Gee: Yeah. Dillon: is pretty legit, but other than that, like let's wait and see what what they do on Saturday, then we we can maybe gather a little bit more information. Then we'll get into the football or Alabama game. Go ahead, Daly. Dailey Gee: And it'll be good. It'll be good to see a good quarterback. I mean, that's good because guess who you turned around and play week two? Keelon Russell. And so it's it's good to get a you know, it is Youngstown State, but it's good to get a game under your belt before you play them and good to go against a good quarterback, FCS or not. It's good to play against somebody good. Dillon: Yep. so score predictions, Ethel. The last time I looked, it it may have changed, but last time I looked, the spread is twenty three and a half. what is your let's just go around real quick. Let me ask you this before you a before you give your score prediction. Do you think Kentucky covers twenty three and a half? Tyler Ethridge: Yes. Dailey Gee: Yes. Tyler Ethridge: Yes, I'm going to head back with Dillon: Daily's okay, Daily's yes. Okay. Dailey Gee: I'm just saying yes, I I think they are gonna cover, yeah. Dillon: I I'm actually no. not by a lot, but I I don't think they do cover. I'll go ahead and give my prediction. So I've got Kentucky winning forty three, or excuse me, forty three, forty-one twenty-one. so I got to spread us winning by twenty. but Ethel Daily and the reason why I say that, let me give a little bit. I think that you're going to see a little bit of nerves. I think you could see two things. I think One, we come out, we score immediately, and you're like, my goodness, this is electrifying, right? And then we settle in and then the nerves start to hit a little bit, and then it just kind of that second quarter is kind of iffy, and then by midway, third quarter, we take off. the second thing is that it's kind of reverse that. Jitters are from start, and it takes us a while to really get into place, not just having that. right off the bat, like okay, we are so back. but i regardless, I think we win big forty one twenty one, but I just don't expect us to cover. Daily, what's your score prediction? Dailey Gee: I'm go you said spread's twenty three and a half, correct? I'm Dillon: Twenty three and a half, yep. Dailey Gee: gonna go thirty eight thirteen, Kentucky. Tyler Ethridge: I was leaning thirty eight to ten until Daly said that. So I'm a I'm a pivot and I'm gonna go forty two fourteen. Dillon: Okay. So 4214, I've got 4121. And Daly, you've got thirty-eight thirteen. Dailey Gee: Thirteen thirty eight thirteen, yes. Dillon: Okay. All right, we'll see if we get any of that correct. probably that probably. hey, they that'd be awesome. I would I Tyler Ethridge: Probably all gonna be way off. It's just my score sixty. Dailey Gee: Well let's know. Dillon: tell you what, it would regardless, let's close with this. You've already seen a complete 180 from the what you would see with the Mark Stoops and Mitch Barnhart era. You're seeing now a complete different look in the Will Stein and J Bat era. And go alluding back to basketball, I think that's why it's kind of still taking a little while to transition because you have a Mark Pope who reminds me of he is the Mitch Barnhart guy. Will Stein is more your J Bat guy, right? but regardless, I'm excited, pumped. for kickoff, it's gonna be a fun one. Let's get into BSM from the stands. Okay. so hope you all know this. That tells me you all watch this, but I'll tell you anyways, I won't even ask. So BSM from the stands. What that is is we just get so we get a comment from someone and kind of just unpack it and talk about it. So I got this one here. This is from a recent reel I made. This guy, it was a basketball reel, so we'll go back to that. this was his comment. And I quote he said, if McBribe and Nadia are all we got to hold down the PF Power Forward spot, we are far from okay. We are gonna be screwed. I don't think either of those players are good enough to play substantial minutes or be impactful players at UK. They are role players at best. Dailey Gee: Well, here's my thing. How how do you know that for sure? did we think that about Kobe Brea? Did we think that about Andrew Carr? What did you think of Amari Williams? He came from Drexel. so it's fair. That Dillon: Good points. Dailey Gee: is a that that is a fair statement. Okay. It it is in its human nature to criticize and, you know, just automatically think for the worst. but how do we I mean, how do you know? I would I would that would be my question. Like how do how do you know that we're s screwed? because a lot of people were probably saying that when we brought in Kobe Brayett. Look what he did. And look what Amari Williams did and look what Andrew Carr did. So that would be my response to that. Dillon: Ethel, I think the biggest thing that stands out for me is, you know, what's wrong with McBride in the day of being a role player? Tyler Ethridge: I don't I don't know. Dillon: What what what's like what like what that those are not two guys that we expect to be the guys, right? I mean, at this point we have two guys now that Mark Mitchell is out of the picture. You have Milan Momchilovic, Alex Wilkins. I would those are the two guys that most people that I hear and see like those are gonna be your your go to players, those guys, right? Tyler Ethridge: And Moreno. Dillon: And Moreno, like but so like what what's wrong with them being that role player? Like we can't like I would it be great to have the stud yes but I just like what are our expectations? Like I know that good is not good enough. I'm not saying lower the expectations. That's not what I'm saying. But at the same time, how often do you get a team, Tyler, that is five complete stud muffins? You just don't get that. You gotta have some role players, right? Now we can't have five we can't have an entire team full of role players like last year it turned out to be. But at the same time, who says that we're telling them that they have to be stars? What planet are we on? Tyler Ethridge: I don't even think people know these two players. I don't think people's even watched these two players because when I watch McBride's film, the dude's a bucket. I mean, he was in the running for Sunbelt Player of the Year. Like, I mean, he can shoot the three ball, he can move, and like we're acting he's just some bum we went and grabbed from IUP UI that didn't play. No, Dailey Gee: Yeah. Tyler Ethridge: you went and grabbed one of the top players in the sunbelt. And then you got A transfer from overseas that is seven foot tall, somehow has the ugliest shot, but makes it and is Dailey Gee: Yeah. Tyler Ethridge: a freak athlete. Like this guy moves like Giannis. He is a freak athlete. Who's to say he doesn't go in there and become a guy? I mean, you know nothing about that kid. Nobody knows anything about that kid unless you unless you're from his town wherever in the world he's from. Like nobody knows. It's so uncertain. And like we talked about earlier, everybody is so pessimistic. Everybody's so against Pope. They don't think he gets these people in. They think he gets these no names and tries to make it work. Well, guys, like Daly said, Andrew Carr, Otega Owe was not a big name. I hate to break it to you. He wasn't a five star kid in the portal. Kobe Breyer Dillon: Yeah. Tyler Ethridge: was not a five star kid. Lamont Butler was not a five star kid. These guys you're getting are not always gonna be five stars, but When you get a guy like Nye, there's a chance he blossoms. I mean, his frame is there. That's all I got to say. Dillon: Yeah. And I think though the argument that the bounce back would be like, well, look at where those players got us. We were just still good. We were not good enough. And I agree, I can hear that. But you say that now after seeing the product on the floor. I will always go back to this. How many times do I have to say it? Like, wait till we are proven otherwise. Like let's at least give these guys a chance. That's my biggest thing. So that's the BSM from the stands for the night. Let's get into now. Yeah. Tyler Ethridge: Be better, fans. Be better. Dailey Gee: Yeah. Dillon: I agree. Let's get into some Lane Kiffin. Ethel, I feel like you are the type that whenever you hear Lane Kiffin, you just have an immediate thought. What is that immediate thought when you hear the name Lane Kiffin? Tyler Ethridge: Hottie Toddy, baby. Hottie Toddy. That's what I hear every time I hear his name. Dailey Gee: Yeah. Dillon: man. let's start out with this. Daley, is Lane Kiffin going to LSU good for SEC and college football? Let's just start there. In your opinion. Dailey Gee: Lane Kiffin the guy, yes, because out of all the coaches in college football, he probably has the most aura out of any of The most swag. Dillon: Hmm. You you took my word. Dailey Gee: He's got it. I mean he does. Hate him or love him. I'm not the biggest fan of him. But it it's super cool that he has took on this villain role now. And and it seems like L S U as a whole is gonna be doing that 'cause Will Wade Dillon: Yeah. Dailey Gee: and good for the SEC. Yeah. I mean he's one of the bet he's one of the best coaches in the SEC and he's at one of the most storied programs in the SEC. So yeah, absolutely I think it's good. some of his thoughts and ideas and ways, maybe not. but yes, for the SEC I think it's it's it's good. Dillon: Well, I wrote down here w whenever what does Lane Kiffin mean for the SEC. I wrote down he just has this aura about him. Literally, that's what I wrote down. And he's honestly Dailey Gee: He's got it. Dillon: he's he's kind of like a John Calipari. You love him or you hate him. Now, Dailey Gee: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Dillon: I will say this though about him. And this is what I I do love about him. You said it perfectly. He's took on this villain role. The difference between him and John Calipari is is Lane Kiffin has He has found himself in that villain role and he has like embraced it. John Dailey Gee: Embrace Dillon: Caliperi is not taking the villain role embracement. Like he tries Dailey Gee: Yeah. Dillon: to be a politician and tries to hotty tidy this, like you said, Ethel, hidey. But Lank is just like, Hey, I don't care. Like if he if this guy can help me win games, let's go get him. I don't care if he did play preseason NFL. Dailey Gee: He's getting attention and he loves that. So that Dillon: absolutely. Dailey Gee: that's what it is more than anything. Tyler Ethridge: I'm a big Dillon: so Tyler Ethridge: I'm a big kiffen guy though, personally. Me, like Dillon: Okay. Tyler Ethridge: I I I love the villain rollout of him, like his little smart electric comments crack me up. And when he goes into Tennessee and they throw things at him and he's cheering it on, like I just loved it. You need you need somebody like that though, because Sabin Dillon: You do. Tyler Ethridge: was Saban was never like that. Saban was the villain, but he's more of like a John Califeri villain. He didn't embrace Dillon: Mm-hmm. Tyler Ethridge: it, he didn't bring in the hatred. Like Sab like he He brings it in. Kitchen brings it in and loves it. Dailey Gee: He's using it Dillon: That Dailey Gee: as bulletin board material. I mean that's what he's Tyler Ethridge: Absolutely. Dillon: Yeah. Dailey Gee: doing. He's using it as motivation. So yeah. Dillon: Maybe Mark Pope needs to use some of that for motivation. We see he tried it. but no, I that's a good point. So let's get into so LSU is hosting. That's probably the biggest game on Saturday. LSU number eleven, LSU hosts Clemson. LSU went seven and six last year. and you know, obviously they went and made, I guess if you want to call it the biggest move in season. But keep in mind. Lane Kiffin made it to the college football playoff with his Ole Miss team last year, but actually left, was not able to coach Ole Miss in the playoffs because of going to LSU to go ahead and start recruiting for this year's team. Like that was a big controversy too. Add on to the villain row. But he embraced it, right? So, players to what Tyler Ethridge: He was a good go to if they let him. Dillon: Yeah, if they let him. I don't see how you could have done that. I we talked about that too. Tyler Ethridge: Ha ha ha. Dillon: Like, hey buddies, I want our guys, I want y'all to play hard for me, but I'm leaving you. Play hard for me. but I'm out. Deuces. but right. Dailey Gee: I'm out after this. Dillon: So when looking though at LSU, so the I the biggest player you gotta look out here is the the QB, Sam Levitt, right? He's transferred from Arizona State. but had to fight with that foot injury last season. He tried playing, but then he actually did end up having season ending foot injury late in October. But The season before that, he passed, he had 2,885 yards, 24 touchdowns, taking Arizona State to the Big 12 title game, winning it, and advancing them to the college football playoff, playoffs. So, like, I mean, that's the biggest guy. Ethel, you said dog. I think it goes back to, you know, when looking at Baxter for Kentucky, can he stay healthy? Can can Levitt stay healthy? That's a big question mark. If he can, I think you're looking at Well a lot of people are saying if he can stay healthy, a dangerous LSU team. Tyler Ethridge: Jackson Dart two point That's who I see every time I look at him. Dailey Gee: He's now got a SEC line, SEC playmakers, Dillon: Yeah. Dailey Gee: SEC defense. So I mean, he's gonna thrive. Like you said, the question mark is staying healthy. Dillon: They also got a tight end, Trey Dez Green, 6'7. Caught seven touchdowns last season. I don't know a ton about him, honestly. but looking at a tight end who's 6'7, I mean, that's a big old, big old guy. Dailey Gee: Big target to throw to. Dillon: but also, you know, we're talking, yeah, there is a big target, but also thinking of in the situation of LSU and Levitt where they're at, let's flip sides to Clemson. Clemson's got a quarterback that is a lot of question marks, right? I So Christopher Christopher Vizina. The biggest reason why I think it's question marks is because he's been sitting behind a Kade Klubnik and he's only had one one career start. Sounds familiar? Kind of like a Kenny Minchel Kenny Minchie who Dailey Gee: Yeah. Dillon: only who's had zeros like it a lot of question marks. do y'all know anything about this guy? Dailey Gee: No, but I know that I wouldn't want to be him. Go Tyler Ethridge: Very minimal. Dailey Gee: first start at Death Valley against Dillon: At Death Valley, that's right, it's at Death Valley. Dailey Gee: the Lane Kiffin coached L SU team who has had all of like I mentioned the bulletin board material and motivation that they need going into the season. Yeah. Tyler Ethridge: And they're rabbles. They hate each other. Dailey Gee: Yeah. And so no, I don't know much about him, but I boy, Friday night he probably won't get much sleep. Dillon: that is I do hope that it's much better than last year's game when they played because last year's game was a big pretty big letdown. Dailey Gee: Being. Dillon: it was not what I think any fan was wanting for the first big time game of the week. So right now the spread, Ethel, is ten and a half in favor of LSU. What is your score prediction? Or actually let's start off Tyler Ethridge: yeah. Dillon: again. do they cover? Tyler Ethridge: Hammer LSU, hammer ls you. Double Dillon: Ooooo Hammer. Tyler Ethridge: it, double it. Dillon: Daily do they cover ten and a half. Dailey Gee: I'm not gonna say I'm not gonna say hammer, but I will say yes they're gonna cover. Late. Late. Dillon: I'm gonna I'm gonna say I'm gonna say no again. I say they don't cover. I think this is actually going to be a competitive game. my score prediction is thirty four twenty seven LSU. That's without any knowledge. Like what obviously don't know a ton about, but I I just I don't know. I just decided to go thirty four twenty seven. Dudley, what's your score prediction? Dailey Gee: I'm gonna go So ten and a half. I'm gonna say it's a backdoor cover. I'm gonna go twenty seven fourteen. Dillon: Mm. At the late you said it'd be a late cover. Dailey Gee: Light, late. Dillon: Ethel, you're saying hammering, so I better hear a big time big time differential on or difference on the score. What you got? Tyler Ethridge: Thirty one ten. Dailey Gee: Glow. Dillon: That was like it. Tyler Ethridge: I don't like I don't like Clemson. I don't Dabo, he's his his time's done. Move on. Dillon: Okay, hot not hot type, but let me throw this out there. Does Dabo remind you a little bit of Mark Pope? Tyler Ethridge: Right. Dailey Gee: In a way. Dillon: A little not just like a little odd, you know, when he tries to be get that hype speech inspirational. It's kind Yeah, Tyler Ethridge: What about what about when he runs down the hill? Dailey Gee: I think he's gonna Dillon: the guy's gonna tear an ACL. He's going to do something. I don't wish that Dailey Gee: He's got Dillon: on him, but Dailey Gee: He's got a little bit of the dorky vibes. But more than anything, the difference between him and Pope is I'm not ri I hear Dabo whine a lot. I've not really heard Pope whine any. So that would probably be the difference there. But yeah, I can see that for sure. Dillon: Well, what's y'all's final thoughts? Do you have any final thoughts on anything? Since the day let's start with you, this is your first time being on Bluegrass State of mine. It could be about Kentucky football, basketball. Final thoughts on anything. Dailey Gee: Well well, I I just wanna say I appreciate Dillon: I feel like there's something you're holding inside. Come on, give it like there's something you're holding on to. Dailey Gee: I appreciate the opportunity to come on here first f first. I wish Colton would have been on here 'cause I really want to debate and argue with him. So Dillon: We'll have to set that up. Dailey Gee: it it because it just seems like we have varying opinions at at times. Dillon: That that's okay. Dailey Gee: but the but seriously, the the main thing Yes, I'm a Pope guy, so I'm gonna sound biased. But I just remember growing up as a kid, it may be in my youth, but it didn't matter who the coach was. I was gonna support Kentucky. And everybody I'm not telling you how to fan, everybody can fan their own way. But there's no better time really to be a Kentucky fan as a whole. Because you're gonna get a motivated Mark Pope who is potentially gonna be in his last year if all goes awry. And then you've got a new face with the football program and Will Stein. And it there's a lot of excitement and there's no there's not been a better time for all sports to be a Kentucky fan. Dillon: Ethel. Tyler Ethridge: We just gotta be better as a fan base. Plain and simple. Cut the negativity out, man. We got enough going on. Let's you gotta you gotta come together. It's gonna it's gonna be a long year if we all can't get along. That's all I gotta say, cause football's unknown, basketball's unknown, so get it together. Dillon: That's a great way of putting it. We have the two biggest sports, basketball and football, and it is completely unknown. Right? It is unknown. And I think Dailey Gee: Yep. Yep. Dillon: that that that is the motto for this year for those two teams. but hey, thank you all for tuning in.
