- Revisitation Rightspod: And really, really quick, really, really quick story. But ⁓ I was in I'm not gonna tell you what grid I was in, but I remember I was with my one of my best friends at the time, his ex-girlfriend. This is the first like I had never had like hard liquor alcohol, so where she's like, ⁓ shit, you know, I want to drink, I'm trying to get fucked up tonight. So she opens up the liquor cabinet and I'm just taking shots of everything. I'm mixing light brown. By the time we get to Halloween We're in the like the beginning, and I just like fucking throw up. ⁓ and then my best friend is trying to like put water on my face. And then like the cops are like there. they had to like put me in like a wheelchair. The cops like, yeah, we gotta call your parents. It was the whole thing. Bro, did you get alcohol poisoning? Yeah. It sounds like Florida problems. Yeah, man. Hey, man, we party hard. Some Florida jit shit right there, my boy. Man, party hard. So we got a special episode today. Since it's approaching Halloween, we decided to do approaching Halloween already starting for us in Florida. Just saying. Actually started in August. Just saying it's approaching, it's approaching Halloween. Shout out to Holly Hornet. Shout out to Jack and Offello. Whoa, whoa, we're fellow you jack it off. What do you mean? What? I gotta stop this fucking thing. What? What? What'd I do? Wait, what did I do? Jack and Oddfellow Bro, we not jacking nobody off, man. What the fuck, man? No, Jack and Oddfellow. ⁓ I'm not seeing your words. ⁓ Jesus Christ. Jack and Oddfellow. No, you said you were Jack and Othello. No, I mean you wouldn't You gotta enunciate. There's no my hands are my hands are right here. My hands are right here. I'm No, you gotta enunciate. We're not doing anything in you know NC seventeen on this podcast. Alright, so ⁓ Brandon's choice. It was Brandon's choice this year to do Texas Chainsaw Massacre. So we're gonna be Halloween. I shouldn't do that. We're gonna be should have done Halloween. Yeah. Better better series. But yeah. Anyway, ⁓ we're gonna be just discussing and then scoring ⁓ each of the ⁓ Texas Chainsaw Massacre films one through eight including the remakes. Are we also including Leatherface? Yeah, the whole thing the whole nine. Yeah. I guess every it does the Leatherface movie. It gets very bad. But to to to be fair it never really started out that good to begin with. No. So obviously the first one we're gonna start with ⁓ with one. So we'll start with Justin. How did you come across the Texas James War Massacre? Was it kind of by curiosity? Would somebody make you watch it? So I saw I kinda like saw not the original one, but I saw one of the I guess the recent ones. One of the recent ones I'm not sure. One of the recent ones during that time. Beale or was it Jessica Beale or was it ⁓ Jordan Everybody. think so. I I think it was that one. Was that the one that was like in the mid two thousands? So those are the players. Yeah, by Michael Bay. Okay. ⁓ production company. So I probably saw one of those with them and I was like, ⁓ like you know, like, ⁓ this crazy guy with a chainsaw. And then my dad told me that ⁓ I guess like that story was based on like Ed Gean. Rest in peace. So then that's when I really kind of I'm trying to recipe for a psychotic fucking killer who wears people's face. I'm trying so hard to just like Fuck him. Rest in peace, man. Rest peace I give, man. ⁓ I quit. He's looking up at us. Don't worry. ⁓ my gosh. ⁓ man. ⁓ but yeah. So that's when I kind of started watching more of the films because I was like, ⁓ this is this guy's kinda like actually crazy. ⁓ and then yeah, I just I ended up watching one of the the I ended up watching the first one on my own. Just to kind of see like, you know, where the first film started and I was like, all right, this kinda I was like, it does not hit like the other ones that I saw. But I was like, I see the vision. I see where you're going. What about you, Brandon? ⁓ so I'm very similar to Justin. The very first Texas Chainsaw Massacre I saw was the beginning, which was the one with Jordan and a Brewster. And I remember watching that in the movie theater. And I remember when the 2006 came, and I was like terrified because I remember the trailer and it looked crazy intense. I was like, nah, there's no way I'm gonna see that. This movie, the beginning actually is what got me into horror movies. Because I remember watching that with my at the time friend in the movie theater and I was so traumatized and I was like Okay, I'm in all the way. And I remember when I was I think seventeen, we went to Hollywood Horror Nights, and that year was the first year that Universal started doing IP. So they had ⁓ Freddie, they had Jason, they had Leatherface. So they actually had like an actual authentic Texas Chainsaw Massacre House and these dudes were, I don't know, six foot six, two hundred and sixty pounds of muscle chasing you with chainsaws. And I just remember we s that I think that was the first house that we did at the the event and it was still kind of light, but they kind of fucked us up. And ever since then, I've been all in. And then I kind of went back and watched the first one. I was like When they were chasing You're right. Real quick, Brandon, you're right. It's the one from 2003. Okay. That was one with ⁓ Beal. Yep. That was the one where I was like, fuck. This guy's insane, dude. What the fuck? Because it was a lot darker than the original, in my opinion. Yeah, and that was that was ⁓ that was one of my favorite ones. That one was really like heavy. I was like And I wanna Fun fact, I have the Texas Chainsaw Massacre at the beginning on DVD. I got that in a bin from Blockbuster. It still has a Blockbuster sticker on there. Nice. Bro, they should can we like ⁓ can we get investors involved and we can relaunch B ⁓ Blockbuster? I I think the ⁓ rights are still active, but it's online only. They should just do a Blockbuster streaming service. Do you have a neighborhood from Blockbuster? So like by us we have ⁓ leave one take one. So it's like this big ass box of just DVDs. And you go there, you look through it, you take what you want, you leave. It's so cool. People are there all the time. So it's funny enough, th there is a deli that does that by my house. It's like a farm, and they'll have like free books that you can grab, and they'll have like free old movies that you can grab. I think some you have to buy. but yeah, like old. I think the ones they sell, like the VHS ones. But like Yeah. They put cameras up now because people were stealing, but they put they put the cameras up. So nobody gotta mess something out too. So my introduction to Texas Chainsaw Massacre was different. So my one of my sisters is like super horror fanatic. ⁓ so she took me to see the fly when I was six. So we ⁓ Nah, we're good. Yo, that's like borderline MK Ultra right there. So we I had a sister who live another sister who lives in Phoenix. She still does. And she lived in Phoenix, I think she moved in like eighty three, eighty four or something like that. Shout out to Zona. We went to see her ⁓ over the summer, like nineteen eighty eight, maybe eighty seven. Wasn't born. Eighty seven, eighty eight. And ⁓ so we obviously, you know, we couldn't afford to fly. So we drove. So it was like me, my mom, ⁓ my little brother, and one of my sisters. And while we were driving through Texas, so back then, when you stay at a hotel, you used to be able to go to like the front desk and rent or borrow VHS from them. So we stayed like when you drive through Texas, like it's a It's an all it's like ten hours to get all the way back to the state. Maybe even longer than ten hours. ⁓ So you pretty much have to stay there. Like you have to stay in Texas. So I remember my sister was like really driving the point home, you know, this Texas chainsaw massacre, it's a true story, blah, blah, blah, blah. And ⁓ she's like, ⁓ you know, it happened on a road trip and like 'cause you know, part two, well, we're talking about part one, but part two opens up on the on the drive. And ⁓ So when we got to the hotel, she went and got Texas Chainsaw Massacre. So I'm seven and a half. I'm in Texas. And she put on, she made me watch the Texas Chainsaw Massacre in a hotel room in Dallas or Texas, wherever we were staying at the time. Texas. And then we go right back onto the road. And fuck can I tell you? I was f just fucking scared. Like I was just in the back of the car. Push up. This is right before push-ups. And then ⁓ so after watching that, and then you know, after go, you know, we stay at my sister's for the summer, and then on the way back, ⁓ we stopped at another hotel in in Texas and she made me watch part two. And part two, you know, it starts on the drive. So we got in the car. I'm like fucking put a blanket on, not looking at anything. Just fucking so that's that was my introduction to Tex Texas Chainswall Massacre. I'd never watch it again until I don't know, maybe like 15, 20 years ago. So like when I started like when I really started like writing for real. ⁓ I wanted to write a horror. And I was like, you know what? Let me watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre again. You know. And then I was like, ⁓ you know, I don't really like it. Like it's not as what I you know, it's not what I remember as a kid. And then watching it again. so I did try to pull the trick. So we ⁓ we drove through Texas in like twenty twenty four. We did like ⁓ we went to Dallas, we did like a couple stops in in Texas. So I did try to get her to watch because she'd never seen Texas Chains World Massacre. So I tried to get her in the hotel to watch Texas Change. She was she wasn't having that shit. She was like, Nope. We'll do that in a little steak, not this one. She's cause she's not a horror movie. Like I took her to see St original Strangers when it came out. I'm going to tell the story. She she did wouldn't want to take the trash out at all. What wouldn't What's a rough one for like a non horror person, bro? Wouldn't go outside for a while. Like any vacation, we had to stay at hotel. Like there was no renting a cabin. Like it for a while. Like it was it was pretty, ⁓ So her and horror movies don't really go together. But I tried to get it into it, it wasn't happening. But then do strange it now. The worst ones, bro. Because those are just like legitimate humans just on some wild shit. Yeah. And I think that's what when I was younger, I think that's what got me about Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It was like something that can happen. You know. So it's not something that's, you know, a monster or something. It's just a guy. It's just a family that, you know, cannibals, guys. And you know, growing up in New York, it's like, you know, you don't really fear that, right? You fear other stuff. You don't fear that. But then when you're in Texas, when you're in, you know, Middle America, when there's nothing around but shit like that, then you start wondering like what the fuck is out here? Yeah. So stuff like that can happen. Yeah. Grass. Yeah. That was a big ad that was a big adjustment period for me because ⁓ the family and I had moved to like a more rural area compared to where we stayed all of our lives. We stayed very close ⁓ to new you know, to the Hudson River, ⁓ on the New Jersey side. Water bodies in there. Yeah, that's ⁓ I actually saw a picture of a floating body a cop showed me that scarred me for a w a while. But but besides the point, ⁓ so that was an actual adjustment that I had to get used to. 'Cause like you know like in the back of your mind like you'll see like someone standing like in a bush or whatever. There ac no one's actually there, but like in your head, like you visualize someone standing there and like you like how would I react to this? You know, you like you play those little scenarios in your mind. So it was an adjustment period because I would just look at just grass and just b just just ⁓ just land. And I'm like, okay, in the one percent chance there's a lunatic just staring yards away. You know, like how would I react? And I would say for the first couple months I was like especially like the first month or two, I was like just like looking, I was like and no one's out there, right? ⁓ but yeah, it's a real thing. So I can imagine someone who Who's not used to that, who's not a horror person, and just is traveling through Texas and they're like, Yeah, let's watch this movie about a guy who's cutting people in the half and eating them. Fucking northerners. Like you know what? That's it's twenty miles away from us. That's what got me into horror films, because she was always watching horror films. So everything she watched was horror. Like And cheap hard too from back in the eighties, like doc like I don't know if you guys ever see these, but like Dr. Giggles, Shocker. Yeah, yeah. Like real, real cheap. Low budget. Low budget. Like she was I was watching this at like eight years old, nine years old, ten years, you know, whatever it You watch those movies growing up 'cause you know there was gonna be certain things in their movie that you're like, all right, I know what I'm seeing. Yeah, close to the hood. Every one of those movies had titties in it when you were a kid. So I'm sitting there like seven, eight years old. I'm like, ⁓ titties. The titties. The titties. She's Dad definitely watching horror with you. Sitting down. Like eight years old, just focused. It's like where where the titties? Where the titties? Where's the nip? But yeah, like so I'm talking like Nightmare and Elm Street. You know, not the first one obviously, but like when they were coming out, they would always go like ⁓ There used to be a drive in that she used to go to. She used to like to go into the drive in. So she would sneak me in the trunk and ⁓ you know, drive in and I would hop out of the trunk and you know, watch ⁓ the horror movies and shit. But also based on the true story, but ⁓ So as far as Texas Chainsaw Massacre goes, so let's say if there was a top two fifty of horror, well, let's go top twenty-five a horror. Would you put the Texas Chainsaw Massacre the original? Because that's obviously that's where it started. ⁓ yes, yes. I I'll take that back, yes. Now would you put it on there as a movie or because of the influence of it? Influence. Because as a movie. If it was a movie if it was Leatherface is an icon though. But then also you like you have to take account like the time that it was shot. You know, like that's the type of horror that was like still scaring people then. Now we're so desensitized to blood and people being cut up and you know. It was also it was also different though because back in those it was like what, n nineteen seventy four I believe when it came out? Seventy four, seventy five, something like that. So back then, hitchhikers leaving your your door open, ⁓ in your house, like those were normal things that we don't do today. So Just the thought of picking up some random person on the street or you know, you're driving and you're picking someone up and then being a lunatic was not something that people probably process like, ⁓ shit, now I have to be kind of careful if I'm picking up a random hitchhiker. Cause this is also like way before Ted Bundy and some of these other people who were just killing just like random people. ⁓ it's way before the Zodiac Killer. So it wasn't something that was like an actual reality. So if you had to throw in some What you guys actually like about the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre? As opposed to it as a series. So let's just talk about this one film. How unhinged the family was. They were fucking unhinged, bro. Like was the movie. The Jessica Beale one, the one that like frightened me, it was more of a typical horror scary movie family. Within, you know, the cannibalistic family, of course, but it was more in tune with regular horror. Whereas The first one There's no Other than like the situation, like just hearing them talk, they're talking so normal to the point where it does not sound like horror. So like if you're someone who thinks a lot, you're looking back at this and you're like, Alright, they're talking like it's a normal fucking Tuesday in the afternoon and they have this lady hog tide feeding her body parts. What what? What are you guys doing? Grandpa was a freak by the way. I saw that. He was how like that was that was the thing because like in the Jessica Beale film, you have them kind of like kind of like making sounds that are more you know, s you know, that are you know, that resembles horror and resembles, you know, suspense. And this family, they were normal talking, bro. You know, they it w it was like their normal day. So I feel like that was one of the main things that kind of stood to me with the original film. Cause like it wasn't him ⁓ you know, chasing people with the chainsaw that scared me or had me kind of f you know, effed up. It was it was the family, dude. It was how normal this day was for them. That was what kind of like messed me up. I'm like, dude, this people that like really exist like this. No. Did Did you guys know that there's ⁓ there's a game to this? This the original movie. Like a video game or like a board game? It's a video game. So they came out I think like two years ago, and it's ⁓ online only, but I played it once when ⁓ I had like a free trial at Xbox, but it's based off of that where you know you have to wait for three other people to come on and you're pretty much trying to like escape the house and it's like fucking intense. That's cool. I've And there was a game that came out before that too. I think it was the the Jason Vorhees game. Yeah, that one came out and then the Michael Myers one just came out. Like I've played a couple times, not like I never made it out the house because you know you have to find the keys and the tools and if you make too much noise then you alert the grandpa, the grandpa wakes up and then you have to outs you have to escape Leatherface and like the entire family. Yeah. That's crazy. Yo, I saw speaking of, I saw a video of like one of the One of the one of the ⁓ one of the players bribing Michael Myers. They're like, yo, don't kill me, please, bro. I'll show you where everyone else is. And then they s you see in the video they're walking together, but he's making it seem like he's getting chased. So the the victim is first, and then you got Michael Myers. And then he just cuts like a hard left. He cuts like a hard turn, and Michael Myers just beeline sorts everyone else. It's fucked up. Yo, crazy. Snaked his whole team, bro. ⁓ So I think the part of the movie that so the first 40 minutes is absolutely dreadful. In the van, the whole it's just fucking Franklin. I I wanted to reach through the A smack Franklin. Now, this is me watching it as an adult. I feel like I chalk that up to like older films. Not in not all the time, but like I give it that little bit of slack. I do give it slack, but not 40 minutes worth of slack. Because it was all right, we're gonna go to this house, boom, we stop. Alright, two people go in. Alright, two more people go in. Alright, let's go. Like it was just kind of like there was no Like as soon as ⁓ what's his name? Kirn Kirk. As soon as Kirk gets into the house, Leatherface comes right out. Like you don't you don't really get to the buildup is not there. You know, the ⁓ the buildup is not there. You you s and then when ⁓ what's her name goes in, you start to see everything. And then watching you know, watching that as an adult, and I'm like, where's all the blood? Like I could have sworn there was way more blood. I could have sworn there was just way more like graphic goriness. Yeah, there was barely any blood in the first one. And it it wasn't really Like what I remember. And it it it was kind of like watch in you know, watching it now and I'm like, the editing is terrible. Like there was times when they cut her off like mid mid sentence. Like they're cutting people off mid sentence and going to a different scene completely. ⁓ which was a little aggravated. L cut. L cut. That's w that's not even an L cut. That's a what the fuck cut. So, ⁓ Did you did did you ever hear about like the conditions? Yeah, like the controversies and everything. Yeah, yeah. So reading back and like knowing that ⁓ I think when Sally was at the table, like there she's not pretend screaming, she's like screaming actually because I think it was like over a hundred degrees when they're they're shooting that. The actors weren't being fed. They weren't being they're Yeah, so like I mean she actually got cut. Yeah, like I mean, I wouldn't do that as a filmmaker personally, but you know, there was a method to a madness with that with the director ⁓ who did that intentionally. I mean, I would Toby Hopper. I wouldn't do it, but I would like to be on the opposite side of something like that. Like I if I was an actor, I would like to be dropped into a situation where, you know, it feels real, like it's a real kind of Like to me that would be interesting. Terrifier. And I I'm on the same boat too. I'm I'm for stuff like that. ⁓ but I feel like you have to put it in a way to where you kinda have to let the act you know, the actors and actresses know and let the cast know, like, hey, will you be comfortable with like unprecedented, you know, I I don't know. Just like miscellaneous th I don't know. Just like whatever the director has in his mind, you know, at least to be, you know, or if if you don't like this, you know, surprise, like yell cut. You know? Cause I feel like if I was If I was a filmmaker, I would wanna make sure the actor and actress, like I wanna make sure they're they're good, you know. You can't deprive them. I I would I would love to do something like that where you know it's something like real. You know, and you kinda gotta figure it out. Like to me that seems interesting. I'm not an actor, I don't know, but it just sounds fun. But yeah, I'm I remember reading that ⁓ First of all, ⁓ Sally has a set of fucking lungs on her. Holy shit. Yeah. Because she screamed for like the last twenty minutes of the movie. Straight. It didn't stop. They're they were dirty in the remake or the the sequel, whatever that was. But ⁓ put on Netflix. Well what do you call it? The ⁓ like I read that one of the I think they did the the dinner scene, I think it was like three days. And at one point it was like twenty seven hours straight. Like they were shooting that. And the the prop knife that they had when they have. When they cut. Yeah, that their budget had to go to all film. Like there's you know, it had to be all film. But ⁓ like the prop knife that they have that when you cut it like oozes the blood. ⁓ it kept breaking. Like it wouldn't work and they had to stop, fix it, stop, fix it, stop, fix it. So ⁓ the guy that was playing Leatherface just told her, I'm gonna cut your finger with a real knife. And that's what he did. He cut her with a real knife. So her blood is her blood. Like that's real. Some wild shit. But like, I don't know, like you if you look at those, like that family. So that to me, that family was the movie. Like that the dinner table, the way they acted there and not in the sequel, like I want to see that dinner table movie. Like I want to see that family, how they became like I want to see a prequel like that. Not the campiness that came after that. How it developed to the cannibalism and how in the Cause in the sequel, it opens up where he's fucking dancing on a pickup truck as he's fucking chainsawing. Like it just got it just got to a point. It just got to a point where it, you know, it was stupid. Like at the end of even at the end of one, when he's chasing her, he's dancing half the time. Like I get it, you think it's funny and whatever, blah, blah, blah. But like that takes away the some of the fear that something like that could put into somebody. I understand it's a time you know, it's a time frame and you know, they were limited by technology, not their brain, obviously. You know, you're limited by technology, so you know, you have to do certain things. But it kind of like that dancing and the campiness, like the creepiness of the family, like that Campy Creepy kinda worked in part one at the dinner table. It didn't work in part two when fucking what's his name is driving in the car and talking on the phone and then they go into the radio, say, like that shit just didn't work. But I didn't watch that. Second. In the house. In the house, like, I want to see that. Like that right there was the movie to make. That fucking those fat family, grandpa, the barbecue master. You know, it's like, ⁓ grandpa never has more than one take, and he's bashing a fucking head in ten times. Like I I wanna see that. Like that's unhinged. That's a fucking horror movie. The rest of it was just absolute garbage. Aside from that, like I watching it now, I can't like I understand time, you know, time frame and its influence is big because of the time frame. But you put something like that out now. That's shit straight to Tu that's not even straight to Tubi. That's you know, Pluto. You're not putting that you're not putting that out of Pluto. Yeah. It's going right to Pluto. Bro, it's going straight to the meme pages, bro. That's it. Like it's not straight to the meme pages on Instagram. And they missed the entire film. The entire film was that family. And they just didn't do it. I don't I don't know why. It probably wasn't their story, but that was the film that should have been made. ⁓ Cinematography was great though. I d I did really enjoy ⁓ I really enjoyed the cinematography, like the atmosphere of the woods and the house and everything that I really liked. ⁓ So I felt very empty and barren. I did not see anything past part three. So So you haven't seen the remixed? I thought I when we were talking about it, I thought I saw the one with Jessica Beale. I didn't. I saw the trailer. I didn't see because I sa I I put I was like, let me see if I saw it. So I just put it on real quick and then I kind of like, you know, went through it just to see. I didn't remember a fucking thing. ⁓ that one is good. That in the beginning is good. Those who are good. And then after that it falls off. So I wanted to watch the one that came out on Netflix a couple years ago. Goofy. ⁓ was it Hulu or something? It was it was Netflix. It was Netflix. I saw it. It was Goofy. And I was just like, you know what? No. I was like, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna do it to myself. The one you're getting canceled, bro. ⁓ it's one of those? Yeah. Well, it's it's so the movie is in terms of like ⁓ not not to spoil it, but that version is Young Gen Z, and they're gentrifying that neighborhood or like that town where Leatherface lives. So now Where would you rank the original in the nine since you guys seen all of them? Not off influence, just off of the combination. So you you know, you have to ⁓ obviously you have to put the influence in there a little bit, but the movie alone. Number four. Number the movie alone. Number four. Yeah, probably like number four or five. And the two with ⁓ Beal, the one with Beale and then the one with Jordan are those are one and two for me. And then I'll probably put the the one 'cause I I also did see the Text Chainsaw in three D. I saw that in movie theaters. In three D. Yeah. Now was that a continued story or was that like a remake? Was that ⁓ I don't know? Or did they just put it out for 3D just to capitalize on the three D phase? Well that was that was, you know, also the time that like My Bloody Valentine was remade. So it was kind of like that phase. And it didn't really it kind of you recon that shit because it it it doesn't follow the story. ⁓ and then I think I also saw Leatherface 2, but it was really bad. It was just like a straight origin story. It was bad. So let me ask you something now. So a lot of these movies from especially horror from I don't know, let's go forty five years and back. When they get remained nowadays, they're usually bad. Do you think a lot of these movies cannot be remade? Like for modern times, do you think it just won't fit? I disagree because Or or do you think the filmmakers can't make them correctly? I just think I just think that whoever is in charge of these properties, they're not doing justice. ⁓ like for instance, the remake to Friday the 13th, I thought it was amazing. I thought it was really good. Although The critics said that it wasn't. I mean, there, you know, ⁓ obviously there's some things that you can kind of say that was not good, but ⁓ people definitely showed out for it and then they just never made another ⁓ a follow up sequel and they set it up for a sequel to that one. And it actually actually were in production for that pre production, and then it just got shelved. ⁓ I think the Halloween series, the first one that came out, I think it was twenty eighteen, that one The Rob Zombie one or the No the the one with Jamie Lee Curtis that came back. That's the Danny McBride version, right? I like the Rob Zombie one. That was that was the Bloomhouse one. Yeah, no. A lot of people like the Rob Zombie one, but I do. I didn't think the first one was bad. Obviously the second one it had some issues and the third one I i it's very divisive. What was the one they went where they threw him in the basement and set the house on fire? That was the first second? The first one? The second one that's when he came out of the basement and he just started okay going ape. Yeah, no, I didn't I didn't care for the the the remake. I actually didn't mind the Rob Zombie Halloween. I hate it. I I know a lot of people didn't like it. I I thought it was okay. But yeah, first that I I really liked it because it it showed like ⁓ same thing with like the Jessica Beale ⁓ Texas Chainsaw, the one from two thousand three. There was a certain f ⁓ like ferociousness that I expected initially from ⁓ the originals. The originals. Like Michael Myers is yoking you the fuck up. And and killing you like damn near with his bare hands. He doesn't even need a knife. How ferocious this guy is. Looks like fucking Kane yoking you up and dealing with you. Same thing with with ⁓ the Texas change off Mode 3. He had it was it was down to the way he kicked down like the fucking door. It was just like I really want to kill you. kind of ferociousness that when I saw I was like, fuck. I'm kinda shook. You know, and then going back to the older ones, I was like, it's not it's not the same. So you you could even say ⁓ it's at the very tail end of the slasher genre, but Scream started in I believe ninety nineteen ninety-eight. And I mean we just had one what this year? It's still putting up numbers. Yeah. People love horror. Yeah. And they they especially love franchise horror. Scream is such a classic, bro. That mask, bro. Everyone wanted the scream mask that you could pump the blood. And have it fucking It's it's a it's it's it's a recycle bin tour for me, but mine you know eventually got recycled. But No, I'm saying like that entire franchise, you can put that in the recycle bin for big. So I'm still. I don't know, man. I this movie was such a disappointment watching it this weekend. Like I I I don't rem I don't remember it being this bad. And like I I was I was excited to watch it because I was like, you what? I haven't seen it in like 20 years. I was like, you know, I I think maybe the the remembrance I have of it might have been off. But like I don't know. Like I I can't even picture like a modern version of it. I I don't think it would work either. ⁓ I don't it's like once once Leatherface kind of became like the de facto mascot of the series, it kind of like that's not what made the original work. Like the family is what made the original work. And when they turn the family into just a bunch of goofy characters. They kind of took away from everything. So that's how the Platinum Dunes version, the one that came out in the 2000s, the element is more so in the family because you notice that it's not Thomas who's actually Thomas is the leather face in that in those two movies, but he's not the real person who's pulling the trigger. It's his uncle. But like are they well I'll find out when we get to it, but yeah, it's it's it's more so the the family dynamic is kinda is more so ta he's just kinda like, hey, we need you to take care of this so that he kinda takes care of it. But then the uncle is such a big factor in those two because he's really setting up he's the main, he's he's actually the real villain in those two movies. It's not really Thomas. And like and they also kind of like blend it with the fact that Leatherface is the face of this horror franchise rather than the family, kind of like Jason, Michael Myers, you know, he's like Leatherface. You know, so they so Br Brandon Brandon has a point how they try and, you know, visually they'll keep the focus on Leatherface. But if you pay attention to the story, the strings are being pul you know they're being pulled by someone else. And it's someone in the family. I mean, we we have ⁓ so they I I it it leaked prematurely. ⁓ but I think Peacock just released a trailer for the Pam Borhe series, the one that's with Linda Pluto Carmelini. ⁓ yeah. So she's Mama Voorhees. So they're gonna show like the origin story of Jason and how he became. So it's more so focused on the mom and not Jason in this one. That's how the original was. The original the teller was Pam. It wasn't my it wasn't ⁓ it wasn't Jason. See, and and for some re I mean, I love Friday thirteenth. I mean Yeah, but I usually always skip the first one because I'll prefer I want to see Jason with the hockey mask. I mean that that that was what I grew up terrified of that hockey mask as a kid so I I I'd rather see him. And he didn't When I saw him without the mask. When I saw him without the mask, I was like, ⁓ no bro, you keep the mask on, bro. Keep that mask on at all times. A but his face. Ugly A but his face. A butt his face. Do you think people pretend to pretend to like this movie because of the impact of it? ⁓ you can make you can make that same argument for a ton of movies that are on the top two fifty where it's it would be in your best interest to say that you enjoy it versus like we're we're we're not talking about the two fifty though. We're talking about what was considered one of the most iconic horror movies. It's still into that in history. I mean people are still gonna label it they're they're still gonna label it as iconic because of the influence that it has With the fact that Leatherface is still a marketable ⁓ monster horror character today. But if you take that context out, I feel like a lot of people, especially off the record, if it would be like more professional people in the film industry, they'd be like, you know, you know, I wasn't, you know, I'm too big on the first one. But I like the influence that. Leatherface brought, especially with the, you know, realism of of Ed Geen being the you know, part of the story or part of the influence of the story. so I feel like with that context, people will say, Yes, it's one of the greatest horror films ever made. Without that context, people would be like, I don't I don't I prefer one of the newer ones or something. So no, I have point. Go ahead. Go ahead. So so I would say that I would say that Leatherface and Texas Chainsaw it would be considered a GOAT. I would not put him I would not put that movie on like the Mount Rushmore because after the first one, I think ⁓ outside of a couple of ⁓ they did not get the same wide release and markability as Friday the thirteenth, Halloween, ⁓ Nightmare on Elm Tree, Scream. I think those are bigger box office draws. Then Texas Chainsaw, because after the first one, it kind of falls off a cliff in terms of ⁓ shit, I gotta go see this. I gotta go see this. ⁓ I mean I I I haven't looked at the box office numbers, but I know it doesn't compare to those other ones. Well, I wasn't gonna do the box office because they're special episodes. So I didn't I didn't want to like dive into the whole thing. No, no, no. I of course, but I just mean I just mean like people like anticipating to go out and see like, ⁓ there's another Texas chainsaw, I g I wanna go in the movie theater to see it versus Jason. think that's because of maybe people really didn't like it when it came out. Like because objectively it's not a good movie. Yeah. It it's it's just not. Like I watching it now and like really like paying attention to it, it's a very bad, bad movie. Aside from the cinematography. But like so I'm thinking like to to Justin's point, ⁓ People, you know, they talk about as like one of the best slashers and everything. Would you even consider this a slasher? Or is it only categorized as a slasher because so many actual slashers stole from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Because to me, nothing about this Scream Slasher, aside from the guy running around with a, you know, a chainsaw and a couple of, you know, it it didn't really feel like a slasher. Because they didn't care what, like, Three people with a chainsaw in that movie in this movie? I'm trying to think. Yeah, he kills ⁓ Kurt, right? ⁓ Kurt. ⁓ the second chick, I forget her name. ⁓ Wheelch wheelchair. And wheelchair. ⁓ and does he kill the truck driver? You think he kills the truck driver? No, he doesn't that truck driver got away. Truck driver got away. He got away. Fight the power. Yep. But like it's I don't feel it's a slasher, and I think they they categorize it as a slasher because a lot of actual slashes used it as like a reference point. Everything came after. Yeah, it came after. Fire came after. Halloween came after. Those you can consider actual slashers. Like plus, aside from being a slasher, there's story to Nightmare on Elm Street. There's story to ⁓ Friday the thirteenth, there's story to Halloween. Like Michael Myers is in an insane aside. Like, you know, there's a whole like world around there. Whereas Texas Chainsaw Mask, even going into I mean, I only seen one. Two, three. I'm not sure if I saw four. Four was like a weird one, right? That's the one with I think that was the one with Matthew McConaughey. Yes, that was the last one I saw. Matthew McConaughey was a l and who was the other one. It was Matthew McConaughey and ⁓ the girl. Goldie Hans ⁓ daughter. Kate Hudson. Yes. Yeah, I think though that was the last one I saw. That one was real goofy. ⁓ so like even going through there, it was just every single one of them was bad. Like there wasn't a good one. What are we doing here? And I I think that's that might be the reason why the numbers might not. I think I don't think it was because it was so gory, so scary, because it wasn't. It's just it was bad. Like just bad story. The characters in every single one of them are just so thin. The story's paper thin. All the subtext is more interesting than the plot, and they never really get into it. There's not enough lore. Yeah. They didn't build it in the first because everything was so they spent forty minutes driving in a van talking to this guy who cuts his hands. Like that that's pretty much it. Like where you could have built in more to it. You know, they kept mentioning where Franklin grew up and this, this and that and You know, going back to the gas station. You use the gas station. All right. It doesn't come into play again until Sally runs down, but like why not use that? Like to create you know, I I think it was just bad writing, bad filmmaking. ⁓ I mean, like I said, the the dinner table is probably one of is probably from what I've seen, ⁓ I'm we're gonna get into like five, six, seven, eight, nine. You know, I've never seen them, so I'll get into them. But that dinner scene is probably one of my favorite horror moments. Just that dinner table scene because they were un the family was unhinged but not cheesy. Whereas, you know, in the next couple iterations, they were cheesy. They weren't unhinged. Like they were playing that campiness up, where in the in the dinner table scene it felt real. Like you felt like an unhinged family and of cannibals. Yeah, where in the remakes they're making like weird noises, like, what the fuck? Bro. And like he's when they fucking going after the girl in the radio station, get that bitch, get that bitch like a hundred times. And I'm just like he's got a fucking chainsaw. He knows what to do. And then he's just standing outside dancing. And I don't know if he fucking came in his pants with the fucking chainsaw. Like who who knows what he was doing in part two? Where when we get to that. Again, that's something. And you know what's bad? I haven't seen So the last time I saw a Texas Saints Well Massacre, I think I watched one, two, three, four, I don't know if ⁓ whatever Makani he was up to. I watched him straight through. And the only things that really stick out are the dinner table scene in one and fucking Leatherface in part two, fucking Jizz in his pants in the fucking So the second one is actually it says it's a dark comedy slasher film. So the tone is different. But I will say the tone from the one that came out in 2003, and I believe it was 2006 or seven. It's a lot it's a lot darker. It's a lot darker. Well, there's a way to do dark comedy. This wasn't it. Part two wasn't it. But we'll get to part two when we get to part two. But but even in even in part one, like they the family wasn't corny. Like they they genuinely felt felt unhinged. Like they didn't feel like they were being overplaying everything. If if the O three and O six version had that same kind of like family, like very nonchalant ⁓ about what they do. Rather than trying to like upplay it a little. ⁓ I felt like that would have been the perfect mix because Brandon's right, like there's this f s there's this dark ass energy with those especially the one from 2003, bro. You can even like see it in the cover. Like in the ⁓ like in the cover that they have, like it just looks like a way darker heavier film where like, you know We're like, ⁓ like, look at this, bro. I'm running I'm running away from this. So I I remember in watching the begin. So I remember watching in the beginning, the beginning, there actually is one scene in the beginning. The text I saw Massac the beginning, the one that came out after with ⁓ Jordan Jordana Brewster. There is a scene that would, I guess, kind of qualify as a black comedy because it's These two people and they're just having like a regular conversation about ⁓ it's so hot and they're talking about the tea and there's a girl who's like tied up under the table, like trying to kick and trying to free herself while they're having a conversation like everything is normal. Like, hey, we've done this before. This is what we do. Yeah, I don't like that like I said, there there's ways you can do dark comedy, black comedy, whatever, and not come off like it did in Slapstick. Yeah. Like Even Freddie, like Nightmare in Elm Street is my favorite horror series. After Ford, it's real goofy. And they start trying to drive home the comedy. Like Freddie's part was he was ab like his main thing is he's absolutely terrifying. Rest in peace. But to him too. He also kind of You know, he'll hit you with the one-liners here and there. Wouldn't make a big deal of like, you know, throw a little a you know, a little comedy in every single one. But then it just started becoming like he's yeah. It's satire. And after Dream Warriors, after Dream Warriors, it kind of started to get a little slapsticky. Dream Warriors, in my opinion, is a top five horrible. It's the best of series. I love one. What? Trash. I don't know. He didn't want to do he didn't want to Nightmare in L'Amsty. He wanted to do fucking Texas Chainsaw Massacre. We're wasting fucking weeks on Texas Chainsaw Massacre. We could have done good. What? It's it's That's the only one I've that's the only one I never saw. I rec Again because I'm not gonna lie, don't don't don't don't watch it. Brand Brandon's kinda right. I I'm only saying it I'm only saying it's fire because of the cover and I have a boss. No, but it it it it really plays into that goofy kind of slapsticky type of shit. And that's not what I mean. I know they made Jason that and they made Freddy that. They kind of leaned into that, but it wasn't like Yeah, it just feels like I'm watching a Mortal Kombat match. As a kid, I was scared of it, but when I watched it again, I'm like, this is terrible. I'm like, bro, what the fuck is this? This is not scary. I gotta Lego Freddy. Wait. One, two, three. So that means so you got him tattooed, so that means that she believed that he didn't do it. Three, four, bed, and lock. Yeah, you do. And I'm I'm I'm taking that you didn't you didn't like the remake. The movie that they 'cause I ha also have that one on D V D as well. The one that came out in like 2006. We could have talked about it if we would have picked a better fucking franchise. I don't know what you were thinking. We should quiz people. No one else in the group chat spoke up but me. We should quiz people if they know the ⁓ Frey Kruger ⁓ one-two song. I think anybody over 35 should know that. Because that's when, you know, people used to really jump rope and sing the Freddy song. I was jumping open a couple weeks ago. One, two, three. Were you doing the Freddy song while you were jumping? Three, four, better. Lock your doors. Five, six, so better make a wish. What's your man? So since it was Brandon's idea, I want to hear his final thoughts first on Texas Chainzone Massacre. Yeah, I I I still I would not put this in ⁓ the Mount Rushmore. I think that is reserved to even though I'm not a fan of Ghostface, I would put Ghostface up there 'cause he's also very iconic for revolutionizing the reintroduction to Slasher films when it was kind of dying. I put him, Freddie, Jason, Michael. I put them in the top four. And I would put Leatherface outside of that. But yeah, he is still foundational for I think kind of starting that that genre because ⁓ Nightmare on Elm Street was what eighty one, ⁓ Hollywood was seventy nine, I think Friday thirteenth like a little before that. I think it's like seventy seven, so it would have technically been the first of that franchise. Yeah. Yeah. So what would have although the second one didn't come out to the mid eighties, so it took like ten years for the C Play came out eighty six. eighty six. Yeah, and and I think that's kind of what i is a ⁓ it's on brand for all these horror franchises where they do one and I think these directors just kinda wanna leave it there. The same thing with Halloween, the same thing I think with Nairman Elm Street. They don't want to do they don't want to make it in a franchise. They're like we just want to have this as one and then be done. And I think it would have have had a more better cultural impact in a way in terms of like This shit is kind of creepy because we don't know. You know, we we're trying to figure out lore the background and they just like, we're done. We'll make we'll let you figure it out and grow. And the studios, they see the money, they're like, ⁓ there we have potential. We gotta make a second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth one. We're looking at movies and TV shows and ⁓ concession standard, you know, all this other type of stuff that Hollywood does and they kind of ruin it and they kind of really dilute it and they water this stuff down so much that The fans are like, like, what are we doing? Like, why are we remaking this? Which is why we have all these remakes now. We're like, why are we doing I just I just saw on Twitter they're gonna re they're allegedly gonna remake another Halloween in 2028. ⁓ why are we doing that? You know, we just had a a trilogy where he got killed. So to your point, do you think Texas Chainsaw Massacre would be more iconic if the series stopped? Yeah. Right when Right when Leatherface turned to the camera at the end of one and it cuts off. Do you think it would deserve more praise if it stopped right there? Never made another one. Yeah, I still think it would be considered one of the most revolutionary horror films of all time. Films, not franchises. The film would have stood on its own had they just stopped there. I would consider so as well, but ⁓ I would have I would have been like, bro, the fuck is this guy, bro? It's just some random ass, dumbass with a chainsaw. You know, to where like the one in O three. Well, I have a big bias with the one I saw in O three is cause I was younger. So I was very ⁓ frightened by someone who really wants to kill people with chainsaws. So I was like I never like in the first one, bro, he wasn't Like, I feel like even though the uncle was pushing the strings in the remakes, Leatherface really wanted to fucking kill you in that in that O3 one. He really wanted to fucking kill you. That one still holds up too. That one still holds up. Like if his uncle was like, stop, stop, I feel like the O3 Leatherface would be like. Nah, you might die too. If you remember if you was a fine down a If you tick me off. You know, like he started at the boot rate. He was at your local meet. ⁓ just cutting up the meat in the back. I mean, that's how he started. I mean, he did have the best barbecue in part one. I just I just wish the that that first one I wish when they remade the O three one with Jessica Beale, I I I really wish they implemented that that family the same way that it was in the first one without any, you know, sort of like over-the-top horror sounding audio bits or just you know, just whatever. And I I wish they just kept that family the way it was, with that same ferociousness and visual take on that leatherface. Cause that that was the one that he we I was like I'm running away from this guy. You know? The first one I'm I I'd like flip the bird at him and be like, You're not catching me, bro, fat ass. You're not catching me. What do you think you like? Stop. But the the the the O three one, I'm I'm I'm scared. I'm running away. I'll find out in little while. Couple weeks. But that this is coming from you know me when I was younger watching it, you know. You have the scene. But that but that's what I remember, you know? That's that's same same way with you with the first one. That's the memory that That's the emotion that sticks with me when I And you haven't you haven't seen it since, right? I haven't. Which makes it funnier. We can we know we can come back. It's it's different because we both saw the remake first and then we went back to see the original. So it's kinda like cheating in a way. Yeah, so yeah, yeah, it is a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ I don't know. My my opinion was I I used to love it. I don't like it anymore. I I don't think I'll ever watch it again for any reason. ⁓ and it actually watching it again as an adult, it kind of well, as a real adult. ⁓ Kinda doesn't deserve where it where it went. Like I don't like Leatherface is I I wouldn't I'd still put Hellraiser like Pinhead above him. Never seen it. You never seen Hellraiser? Any of them? No, and I'm and I'm about to go ⁓ through that haunted house and my my niece is like so fucking geeked to go through the Hellraiser house. I haven't actually I haven't seen Hellraiser, but I heard ⁓ Pinhead was ⁓ who slept on. Isn't he on ills isn't he only in like ⁓ ten minutes of the movie? He's not alive. He's a very s he was a very slept on character. Out of sleeping. He was she, whatever the new version is. they were in it more than the original. ⁓ So ⁓ which I I suggest you watch the first one first. And then kind of go through the new one. If you plan on watching Hellraiser at any point, don't do the remake and then go back. Go okay start with the original. Yeah, start with the first one and then watch them in order. They're not great. I would never watch the remake. You know, they're they're not great, but they're not, they're definitely it's a better franchise than Texas Chainsaw Mask. More depth to his story, right? Yeah, there there's actual like real story to it. Like, you know, they're they're movies. You know, they're they're not just there to scare you. ⁓ but I I would still put him ahead of it. I would definitely definitely ⁓ Ghostface. ⁓ even though Ghostface doesn't really strike fear. Nah. Never did I think just I think just the ⁓ reminds me of trick or treating, dude. Like some just like the running away murder like a senior with a mask chasing me. This this actually I know this is extremely controversial, so I'm just gonna say this now, but I actually rank I know what you did last summer over Scream. Personally. Personally. I don't think you ⁓ it was way more terrifying as a kid than than Scream to me. As a kid, it was way more terrifying. The original, not not the new one. You're talking about like like Scared like sc scaredness of it. Yeah. Yeah, I d I don't think s I don't think scream is scary. Right? I I I think it's more I I think it's just a straight slasher. I I don't think it's like a scary movie. I don't think it's like meant to be like scary, scary. I think it's meant to instill fear. I don't think it's meant to be scary. The end was so goofy for the first one. It was so goofy. Hey, Sabmy, bro. I think I'm dead, bro. So goofy. You gotta think about it, right? Technically they're really only supposed to be high school kids. Like they're not supposed to be. I mean, even though they look like they're 43. They're supposed to be high school kids. Yeah, but you're doing all that because you can't ⁓ get your girlfriend in bed, bro. Just get someone else. ⁓ what about the Joker? Right? We had this conversation about the Joker. The Joker, we we don't know what You gotta pay for it. Yeah, but we don't know what Joker's into. We don't know what Joker's into. We don't know what He knows what he's he knows what he's into. I mean, hey. So he's in some different He'll be into something different. He's into guns, knives. ⁓ no, no, no. He likes he likes Zazie. He was into Zazby. But ⁓ anyway, you want a little bit of Cha Massacre. You want a little bit of flavor in there. Some cinnamon in the sh in his coffee. I'm actually pretty mad that you picked Texas chainsaw massacre to go through. So no one else ⁓ I I made my I let my voice be heard. Well I forgot. What did you say again? Nightmare at Elm Street. Or scream since there were seven of ⁓ And there's seven weeks to Halloween, so it kinda lined up perfectly. I probably would have done Halloween had I went back and thought about it. But ⁓ it was early in the morning and I was just I mean we could switch. Nah we can switch. We gotta we gotta nah, we gotta go for it. When we started, we gotta go for it. You're right, commitment. You're right. Commitment. Texas Chicken Tom Mask. I I just remember how bad two, three, and four were. It's gonna be a fucking struggle. And then ⁓ we get the we get the Tex Chain Song three D where Leatherface is like doing the gardening and you know he's watering the plants and the flowers and he's fixing the food. Leatherface is chefing it up? Yes. Is he making barbecue? Or is he making like you know? Is he making lasagna? Like what what's he what's he making? ⁓ he's just tending to the house, making sure the house is upkept. Jesus Christ. It was with ⁓ that was the one with Trey Songs. ⁓ that makes me want to see it even more now. Are you serious? Yeah, 'cause remember how bad Buster was in Halloween? Is it that he actually wasn't he wasn't bad. He actually wasn't really bad at that movie, but the cast was it was little goofy. Nah, he was bad. And usually I don't mind but like I don't mind him. Like he was decent in certain things, but Halloween was just a joke. The whole movie was my function. I'm back. Yeah. So special Halloween episode. Unfortunately, you're getting eight more of these fucking Texas chains while Massacre comms. I'm trying to think how many are there? Cause I ⁓ Nine. Nine. Including Leatherface? Nine. So there was nine with Leatherface and 3D. Oops. So there is there is one scene in in Leatherface I would say when I saw it. I I think it premiered on Sci Fi back when SciFi used to premiere movies. And I was like, holy sh ⁓ my gosh, I remember those days. Damn, dude, I haven't heard of Sci Fi Channel Network in forever, bro. Yeah. Back back when Sci Fi used to do ⁓ all day Saturday, they would just do these terrible C minus ⁓ Mega Anaconda versus reptilian crocodile shit. Me and my dad we just watched that all day. Sharknado shit. You know what that is? We should have done Sharknado, man. Tax write-offs. Hey, but they they show what you wanted in those movies, right? Tax write offs. Can we do money law? Can we do ⁓ we need to do Sharknado series? I've never ever seen any Sharknado movies. Me neither. And I I love Shark movies. It you know, i you you go into it and you you expect like you get what you expect. ⁓ my gosh. Yeah, I seen the trailer and I was like, no. I I watch a lot of bad movies, but Bro, can we please it's background background TV while you're working. For someone's birthday episode, we need to do a Sharknado episode. I think Vivek Fox is in one of them too. I'll I'll do a Sharknado episode, but it's it's not gonna end well. I can already. Although I might love it. Sometimes I like really cheesy shit. Yeah, she's in Sharknado. And then also ⁓ Terry Reed. Like ⁓ from my god. What I watched that I liked. I like Piranha. You ever see Piranha? Which one? The one in 3D with big reins? I didn't even I did not see, but I I I saw the trailer for it. I was like. ⁓ I felt bad for everyone that was getting torn up by those piranhas. I don't it is super fucking cheesy, but I liked I watched it twice, I think. I didn't even know there was a sequel though, so now I gotta watch the sequel. But it's three D, right? So it's pointless. I like Thing Rights. No, you can you can wa I think it's on two B. Hmm. What's it called? Piranha three D. Yeah, I think so. Who then never so then there would be a Piranha too then, right? Or is that just Not marketing where they just went to three D. Yeah. Piranha. I thought it would be like Piranha three D. So it's on it's on Flex if you have ⁓ I'm sorry, Plex. The streaming, the free s service, and then it's also on Paramount Plus. So it's the same movie or is it a a separate sequel? No, it's a separate separate movie. Separate movie? It came out in two thousand in two thousand ten, so you know, the the cast is I don't know how many of those people are still around making movies outside of being written. Piranha occasionally. Three D D Why is there two D's in there? Or is that a fucking typo? There's. I hope. Or is that piranha double D? Like. Is that what it's is that what it means? Whoa. No, mine just says Piranha 3D. My piranhas got double D. ⁓ shit. You got Christopher Lloyd. Elizabeth Shu. Okay. ⁓ Eli Roth. Okay. Jerry Will. Double D Piranhas, bro. All right. They got it. They got they. kinda had a cash for this. What would you do if you saw Piranha with double D's? Yeah. Yeah, it is. Look at the look at the ⁓ That's the poster. So that's what it stands for. No, I got I got something different. ⁓ I got a regular Piranha three D too. This one. Yeah, that that's the one. Then what the fuck Christopher They came out with a three D D, bro. They came out with a three double D, bro. You know which one I'm watching. No comedy. Everything's bigger in Texas. ⁓ Revisitation Rights Podcast, Special Halloween Edition, Episode 1. I'm Pat.
