- 0:14Deep breathing not only helps to cure anxiety and stress, it also triggers relaxation.
- 0:23Here's how to breathe deeply. Breathing is fundamental to survival. When we
- 0:31are stressed or anxious, our breathing changes. In an attempt to slow the
- 0:37body to engage in intense physical activity for survival. Breathing becomes more rapid,
- 0:46but unfortunately it also gets shallow. We begin to breathe short, quick,
- 0:55shallow breaths. Ever, feel like you can catch your breath. It isn't
- 1:02that you are not able to catch your breath, it's that you are not
- 1:07exhaling. Short gasps of air inward are followed by very small exhalations. The
- 1:17feeling of not catching one's breath leads to even more inhalations, but still no
- 1:23complete exhale. The lungs are so full of old, stale air, new
- 1:32good air cannot enter. We sense the need for oxygen, and, in
- 1:38panic, attempt to inhale even more. The solution to this problem is clear
- 1:47exhale. Proper breathing is an excellent way to manage stress because it stops this
- 1:56negative cycle and calms the body. Deep breathing not only helps to cure anxiety
- 2:02and stress. It also triggers relaxation. Breathing too fast and deep causes light
- 2:13headedness and numbness or tingling of the extremities. Here is a way to slow
- 2:21down your breathing while keeping it deep and exhaling fully. Inhale slowly to the
- 2:29count of four. Count slowly to the pace of one, one thousand,
- 2:35two one thousand, pause to the count of three, exhale slowly to the
- 2:42count of five. The breathing process goes like this inhale two three four,
- 2:55pause two three, exhale two three four five. Inhale two three four,
- 3:19pause two three, exhale two three four five, repeat for a minute or
- 3:37two. H h uh oh kay uh
