- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. As we get started today, we're going to
- 0:09Speaker 1: start our day the best way possible, and that's by
- 0:11Speaker 1: listening to God. That's what we do when we read
- 0:14Speaker 1: the Bible. We spend time with God.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I wonder if the concept of having a personal relationship
- 0:22Speaker 1: with God seems a little strange to you. You may
- 0:26Speaker 1: be even a Christian, a person who goes to church,
- 0:29Speaker 1: and yet it's sort of an external thing. You go
- 0:33Speaker 1: to hear about God and about what's said in the Bible,
- 0:37Speaker 1: but you don't feel that you're building a personal relationship
- 0:40Speaker 1: with God.
- 0:42Speaker 1: And if you're not yet a follower of Jesus, uh,
- 0:45Speaker 1: you may not realise this either. You might think it's
- 0:47Speaker 1: just a religious thing, but actually, when you come into
- 0:51Speaker 1: a personal relationship with God, that's what it is. It's
- 0:55Speaker 1: not just religion, it's a relationship. There's plenty of religions
- 0:59Speaker 1: in the world, but what you want in your life,
- 1:01Speaker 1: what your soul is thirsty for, is a relationship with
- 1:05Speaker 1: God Himself.
- 1:07Speaker 1: When we read the Psalms in the Bible, we get
- 1:10Speaker 1: a picture of what it looks like to have a
- 1:12Speaker 1: real relationship with God. That's what we're doing all this week,
- 1:16Speaker 1: taking a different Psalm every day that really connects us
- 1:20Speaker 1: with God. Today we're looking at Psalm 63, another Psalm
- 1:25Speaker 1: of King David from Israel when he was in the
- 1:28Speaker 1: wilderness of Judah. Here's what he says.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Oh God, you are my God.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Earnestly I seek you.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Well, are you seeking for God in your life? Maybe
- 1:45Speaker 1: you've got a lot of questions. Maybe you've got some
- 1:48Speaker 1: hopes and doubts. You're just unsure and you're seeking for God. Well,
- 1:53Speaker 1: this is what David says, and I encourage you to
- 1:55Speaker 1: actually talk to God about your search for Him.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Earnestly I seek you, David says. My soul thirsts for you.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Are you thirsty inside?
- 2:12Speaker 1: Looking for answers, you've been so invested in your business,
- 2:17Speaker 1: and it's not doing for you in the depths of
- 2:21Speaker 1: your heart what you thought it would.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Are you, uh, good at sports, but that also, it
- 2:29Speaker 1: makes you feel good, fit, healthy, but your soul is
- 2:33Speaker 1: still thirsty.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Maybe you thought that these relationships in your life would
- 2:38Speaker 1: meet that deep inner thirst, and for sure those relationships
- 2:42Speaker 1: are like medicine to you, aren't they? It's so good
- 2:45Speaker 1: to be in relationship with people, but there's still something
- 2:49Speaker 1: that you're thirsty for in your soul. Well, King David says,
- 2:54Speaker 1: what I'm thirsty for, God, is you.
- 2:57Speaker 1: My flesh faints for you as in a dry and
- 3:02Speaker 1: weary land where there is no water. Here he is
- 3:05Speaker 1: writing this in the wilderness.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And he says, I'm, that's how I'm thirsty for you, God,
- 3:11Speaker 1: just like I'm thirsty for water.
- 3:14Speaker 1: So I've looked upon you in the sanctuary beholding your
- 3:19Speaker 1: power and glory.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips
- 3:28Speaker 1: will praise you. Do you know the love of God
- 3:32Speaker 1: in your life? Have you experienced God's love? It's easy
- 3:37Speaker 1: to hear about it and think it just means mushy,
- 3:39Speaker 1: warm feelings. That's such a little part of the full
- 3:46Speaker 1: picture of what God's love means. Have you experienced that?
- 3:50Speaker 1: Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips
- 3:56Speaker 1: will praise you, so I will bless you as long
- 3:59Speaker 1: as I live. In your name. I will lift up
- 4:02Speaker 1: my hands.
- 4:04Speaker 1: My soul will be satisfied as with fat rich food,
- 4:11Speaker 1: and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips when
- 4:16Speaker 1: I remember you upon my bed and meditate on you
- 4:19Speaker 1: in the watches of the night, for you have been
- 4:23Speaker 1: my help, and in the shadow of your wings I
- 4:27Speaker 1: will sing for joy.
- 4:29Speaker 1: A picture of those little baby chicks sheltering under the
- 4:34Speaker 1: mother bird's wings.
- 4:37Speaker 1: In the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.
- 4:40Speaker 1: My soul clings to you, God. Your right hand upholds me,
- 4:46Speaker 1: but those who seek to destroy my life shall go
- 4:49Speaker 1: down into the depths of the earth. They shall be
- 4:51Speaker 1: given over to the power of the sword. They shall
- 4:54Speaker 1: be apportioned for jackals. But the king, that's David, shall
- 4:59Speaker 1: rejoice in God. All who swear by God shall exult.
- 5:05Speaker 1: For the mouths of liars will be stopped.
- 5:09Speaker 1: My soul thirsts for you.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I'm John North.
