- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay, Hey, I'm down. I'm in architects. What else I'm
- 0:08Speaker 1: from architects.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Hey, you're coming to Australia you okay again?
- 0:13Speaker 3: Hey I'm done. Hey, I'm down from architects.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We're coming out to Australia in December in Melbourne, Sydney
- 0:20Speaker 1: and Brisbane and we hope to see you all soon.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Awesome, that's great, Thank you. Hey Dan, how are you?
- 0:30Speaker 3: I'm good, I'm all good. How are you doing.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I'm at the end of the day for us over here,
- 0:36Speaker 2: so I'm not sure what is in the UK moment?
- 0:38Speaker 3: What sounds not even am Oh true?
- 0:42Speaker 2: It's like eight really eight pm?
- 0:43Speaker 3: Here are so?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's evening, nots and cool. It's been very hot today,
- 0:48Speaker 2: so we're coming into summer.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Well quite the opposite here, frost on the ground.
- 0:53Speaker 2: It's getting yeah, so get then you're looking much looking
- 0:57Speaker 2: forward to coming over to us so you can be
- 0:59Speaker 2: help with it.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, sure.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I haven't been to Australia for six years, so it
- 1:07Speaker 1: feels like yeah, because I missed the last tour. So yeah,
- 1:11Speaker 1: it feels insane that I haven't been time. It's just disappeared.
- 1:15Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so six years that's it's a fair whack.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Sorry. Yeah, we used to go.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I used to go like once every eighteen months, you know,
- 1:25Speaker 1: from when I was sort of nineteen twenty to thirty one.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Or so, I used to go constantly.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Now oh sure is that.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yeah on tour all Yeah, we used to you know, constantly,
- 1:38Speaker 1: and then yeah I did, and then you know we
- 1:40Speaker 1: just yeah, long longer gaps these days between between tours,
- 1:45Speaker 1: the band's got bigger. We just play a bit less
- 1:47Speaker 1: because we have you know, we used to be out supporting. Yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 1: and then once you kind of just set into that
- 1:53Speaker 1: headlining rhythm, you you know, you don't want to you
- 1:56Speaker 1: don't want to be there constantly.
- 1:57Speaker 3: You want to build up some kind of go to
- 2:00Speaker 3: see the band. So absolutely, yeah, Fortunately it means we
- 2:04Speaker 3: get to go less, which is yeah.
- 2:06Speaker 2: But I mean I guess it's you know, proof of
- 2:08Speaker 2: in the hard work. You're doing all that touring and
- 2:11Speaker 2: and you're playing and you're getting cells out there, and
- 2:12Speaker 2: then you get that that boost and you wait and yeah,
- 2:18Speaker 2: then it's like you say, you build that hunger and
- 2:19Speaker 2: people you were firsty to see you when you when
- 2:22Speaker 2: you come out. Yeah, has it been six seasons, the
- 2:24Speaker 2: whole band come out or just yourself, just me.
- 2:27Speaker 1: The band did do a tour three years or two
- 2:30Speaker 1: and a half years ago, someone like that, yeah, February twenty.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Two, maybe, yeah, clearly seen. Yeah, someone like that. Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 2: And so the Toy it's promoting the most recent album,
- 2:44Speaker 2: So tell me a little bit about that. It's exploring
- 2:46Speaker 2: a few different ideas, is it.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Oh the record?
- 2:50Speaker 1: Geez, I've slipped I've slipped out of album promotions. Still
- 2:55Speaker 1: sorry to do that too, Yeah, yeah, I mean it
- 2:59Speaker 1: covers I mean, yeah, a few a range of things,
- 3:05Speaker 1: but fairly bec I suppose examining myself, you know, where
- 3:13Speaker 1: where I am in my life, where we you know,
- 3:16Speaker 1: our place in the world, what's happening in the world,
- 3:19Speaker 1: sort of crazy world, the sort of spiral of insanity
- 3:25Speaker 1: that is sort of the world in twenty twenty five.
- 3:30Speaker 1: So there's never a shortage of things to address with.
- 3:35Speaker 3: With how insane the world seems, you know.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Absolutely again, because you're one of the main songwriters in
- 3:41Speaker 2: the band as well. Yeah, yeah, there is yourself. It's
- 3:45Speaker 2: as corn as well. It's there's always always something to
- 3:49Speaker 2: write about. Yea happen and you go there I'll just
- 3:53Speaker 2: make it into some material makes song about it.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 3:57Speaker 1: You know what the lyrics side of the band is
- 4:00Speaker 1: is the hardest. It's the hardest part, the hardest part,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I think. Yeah, it's I'd say this because I'm in
- 4:10Speaker 1: the in the midst of writing a few songs at
- 4:13Speaker 1: the moment, and I'm at the stage of those songs
- 4:15Speaker 1: where the lyrics have to be dialed in and write
- 4:19Speaker 1: and you know, to tell a story that and I've
- 4:24Speaker 1: been guilty of being probably almost too.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Metaphorical, if you like, too vague, and you know.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Like trying to dial in more speciificy well specifically while
- 4:37Speaker 1: also being you know, like poetic in a cool way,
- 4:45Speaker 1: not repeating what you've said before, but also fitting like
- 4:48Speaker 1: the pattern of what the vocal is and where phonetically
- 4:52Speaker 1: the words you need to form. It's it's like it's
- 4:57Speaker 1: a crazy.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Jigs or puzzle. Yeah, to do it well, to do
- 4:59Speaker 3: it really well, to do it really well, it's so hard.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And I'm not sure, you know, I haven't always done
- 5:04Speaker 1: it really well because it's just felt like too hard.
- 5:11Speaker 2: There they hit good, you know. I think sometimes you
- 5:14Speaker 2: have songs that they can write themselves. But like you say, yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 2: getting that the you know, the rhythm and the tonality
- 5:21Speaker 2: and they all to match. And that's why I'm I mean,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I'm a writer, like.
- 5:27Speaker 3: That's my background, okay, you know.
- 5:31Speaker 2: And I've always had a huge amount of respect for
- 5:35Speaker 2: people who can freestyle rap because that ship is hard,
- 5:38Speaker 2: you know, like, no, that's talent, you know, that's.
- 5:42Speaker 3: That's I don't know, I don't understand how that is possible.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I know, right, because we're like we'll spend months and
- 5:50Speaker 2: days and where it's just like trying. They're just like
- 5:52Speaker 2: put off the.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Top of the head and it's like, yeah, what a gift.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, yeah, And I embrace all that stuff. But yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 2: you guys, I mean your sound is is pretty pretty decent.
- 6:05Speaker 2: You know, it's got that melodic and heavy and you
- 6:07Speaker 2: know the signature I wore, which is I do. I
- 6:12Speaker 2: like that. It's it's good. It's almost a little some
- 6:15Speaker 2: of your songs. I was listening to it. Oh Dietwood, sorry,
- 6:20Speaker 2: that's who. It was a little bit Diet and I'm
- 6:22Speaker 2: just like, oh, I like that just a few bits
- 6:25Speaker 2: and pieces and.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, okay, interesting.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you've got you've got good sound, that's for sure.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I think I think the long we've been doing this,
- 6:36Speaker 1: like we realized that one of the most important things
- 6:41Speaker 1: and maybe this goes speak to what you're saying about
- 6:44Speaker 1: the outward is one of the most important things for
- 6:47Speaker 1: this band is that the music has energy. Yeah, and
- 6:50Speaker 1: it doesn't feel I feel like every time we've misstepped,
- 6:54Speaker 1: if you like, in our band's career, we've always we've
- 6:58Speaker 1: lost that energy from it. When we play live, it's
- 7:02Speaker 1: it's not just it's not like a stand and watch
- 7:05Speaker 1: kind of show, you know, it's like a sort of
- 7:08Speaker 1: I mean, if I was in the crowd, I would
- 7:09Speaker 1: just be standing and watching make their mistakes. But the
- 7:12Speaker 1: audience wants to participate, and that's like a big part
- 7:15Speaker 1: of what we do.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Oh absolutely, yeah, that's some I think that's critical, you know,
- 7:19Speaker 2: engaging your fans and then doing those live shows and
- 7:22Speaker 2: those artists that are able to do that and do
- 7:24Speaker 2: it well really like that's that strong connection and that's
- 7:28Speaker 2: how you build die hard fans that you know at
- 7:30Speaker 2: your every show. And yeah, it makes you know, I
- 7:34Speaker 2: guess you know, God of the days where artists in
- 7:36Speaker 2: rock stars are at this untable entity where we've got
- 7:40Speaker 2: things like you know, social media and things like that
- 7:42Speaker 2: where we're to engage with you know, the fans on
- 7:46Speaker 2: much more level than ever before. It for you know,
- 7:50Speaker 2: for listeners, it really I think that builds that bond.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And yes, it makes yourselves and that you feel that energy,
- 7:56Speaker 2: like you say, when you do those live gigs and
- 7:58Speaker 2: you can feel the coming from the audience. I think
- 8:01Speaker 2: it's good, big part to deal with it. So, yeah,
- 8:03Speaker 2: if you guys are engaging, then that die hards in
- 8:06Speaker 2: the front role loving it for sure.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Yeah, So so tell me a little bit about how
- 8:12Speaker 2: you guys started and come about when you're being is
- 8:14Speaker 2: it two thousand and four since you guys, yeah and
- 8:20Speaker 2: five five, it's like twenty years. It's crazy, isn't it.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I just me and my brother started the
- 8:31Speaker 1: band when we were, you know, out of college maybe
- 8:36Speaker 1: we were just we were in college. So we did
- 8:41Speaker 1: our we recorded our first album. God, I want to
- 8:46Speaker 1: say a little bit a few months. We did our
- 8:47Speaker 1: first tour a couple of months after turned eighteen. Yeah,
- 8:51Speaker 1: and in our last year of college. And we yeah,
- 8:54Speaker 1: we did a bunch of tours straight off the bat. Yeah,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I mean it's a long story, if I'm honest, to
- 9:03Speaker 1: try and encapsulate, but I mean, I'm the only one
- 9:08Speaker 1: he'll here.
- 9:09Speaker 3: From from when we started. Everyone else's has changed, although
- 9:15Speaker 3: you know.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Ali and Sam have been in the band for eighteen years,
- 9:19Speaker 1: so we did not exactly.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Know exactly new and even and even Adam, who.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Is the new guy, has been playing with us for
- 9:27Speaker 1: thirteen years, so he's not really new anymore.
- 9:34Speaker 3: But yeah, we've been around the block, haven't.
- 9:35Speaker 1: We've been around for a while, but we've just had
- 9:39Speaker 1: an unusual trajectory in that it was we sort of
- 9:43Speaker 1: made a name for ourselves early on, but only only
- 9:47Speaker 1: really in a small way, and we just hung in
- 9:50Speaker 1: there for a long time, and only really since COVID,
- 9:55Speaker 1: to be honest, that the band like like really took off.
- 9:59Speaker 3: In a big way. So we've been lucky.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Persevered, and and you know, I was always worried that
- 10:07Speaker 1: we missed our chance when you know, after our first
- 10:10Speaker 1: few albums.
- 10:11Speaker 3: But you're just going to child be bland.
- 10:14Speaker 1: This cuts their own path and has their own journey,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and they've thought it's like.
- 10:18Speaker 3: A never too late kind of story, I suppose.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's that's the beautiful thing about music, I
- 10:24Speaker 2: guess is that you see, you know, a lot of
- 10:25Speaker 2: artists is that to get to you know, where you're at.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Most everyone's journey is different and there's no you know,
- 10:33Speaker 2: set path of like Garant, this is, you know, do
- 10:35Speaker 2: these things in these order, and this is what you
- 10:37Speaker 2: can you know, expect sort of thinking. It's kind of
- 10:40Speaker 2: a beautiful thing. And it's either the artistry itself that
- 10:44Speaker 2: there is no rules. You know, you can you can
- 10:47Speaker 2: do it however it works for yourselves and if you're
- 10:51Speaker 2: gonna make it, it's will it will happen, you know.
- 10:54Speaker 2: And and sometimes yeah, you do say that that lives
- 10:58Speaker 2: later on that you've been doing the hard yards. The
- 10:59Speaker 2: most band you know really have been doing it for
- 11:02Speaker 2: a long time before they make it big. And yeah,
- 11:05Speaker 2: sometimes the overnight success story, I guess it's a bit
- 11:08Speaker 2: of a myth really, but I guess you know, in
- 11:10Speaker 2: these days with social media and streaming and whatnot, that's
- 11:14Speaker 2: that's probably a little bit different because some people do
- 11:17Speaker 2: you know, really succeed overnight, but in the long term, Yeah,
- 11:21Speaker 2: you guys have done the hard yards and it's paid
- 11:24Speaker 2: off now, which is kind of nice.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely do.
- 11:27Speaker 2: You feel like a veteran in your field.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Honestly, I don't.
- 11:39Speaker 1: We still we still feel like we're proving ourselves and
- 11:43Speaker 1: we still feel really hungry. They'll feel like we've got
- 11:47Speaker 1: a lot of work to do. Maybe there are bands
- 11:50Speaker 1: that always feel that way. But you know, like the
- 11:53Speaker 1: bands that were the big metal bands, if you like,
- 11:57Speaker 1: from when we were start that's still going, you know,
- 12:03Speaker 1: whether it's like you know, I suppose that at the
- 12:07Speaker 1: top end you have Metallica, you know, if it just
- 12:11Speaker 1: taught Australia, that's right, and so you know, like those
- 12:16Speaker 1: guys are you know, over twenty years older than us
- 12:21Speaker 1: and still still going at it. So if we're veterans,
- 12:26Speaker 1: what a Metallica?
- 12:27Speaker 2: You know?
- 12:28Speaker 1: And then you know, then like fifteen years older than
- 12:32Speaker 1: us or so you've got slip Not and all sorts
- 12:34Speaker 1: of other bands, you know, Corn, Deftones, all those bands.
- 12:39Speaker 1: So again, if we're veterans, then what are they? But
- 12:43Speaker 1: I remember I remember being called at our band, being
- 12:45Speaker 1: called like a metal called veterans. But like when we've
- 12:49Speaker 1: been going for ten years, ye a long time ago
- 12:52Speaker 1: now so and we laughed about it then. So yeah,
- 12:56Speaker 1: if we call us, if we got ourselves veterans. Now
- 12:58Speaker 1: we'd probably look back in ten years and laugh again. Yeah,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I get in the eyes of many people, we are.
- 13:03Speaker 3: We've done eleven albums, so.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah, wow, that's a lot. That's a lot. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 2: I guess you know, like you said that that lift
- 13:11Speaker 2: that you had, it's put you in that reasonably new
- 13:14Speaker 2: sort of you know, era of music.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Exactly about about our audience, know, our first sixth albums,
- 13:23Speaker 1: you know, to the rest of our audience that only
- 13:26Speaker 1: our last few albums exist.
- 13:27Speaker 3: So it's a weird one like that.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well you know, certainly, I guess you're not
- 13:33Speaker 2: complaining to be able to to do what you love best,
- 13:35Speaker 2: and it's not complaining. Yeah, it's the best, best the
- 13:40Speaker 2: really in the world. So coming to aren't coming out?
- 13:43Speaker 2: What's sell date?
- 13:45Speaker 3: You?
- 13:45Speaker 2: First kick off is in December? Is it?
- 13:48Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 13:49Speaker 2: So what do you What are the plans for the
- 13:51Speaker 2: tour or anything anything You're going to pull out of
- 13:54Speaker 2: the bag or just going to be focusing on threading
- 13:57Speaker 2: it your most recent album.
- 14:00Speaker 1: We're gonna play some stuff from our new record that
- 14:02Speaker 1: we haven't played yet. Actually that's will be the first time,
- 14:06Speaker 1: which is cool. But yeah, I mean we are. I
- 14:11Speaker 1: was I was sort of joking actually with the guys
- 14:12Speaker 1: about this, this question of like any any special bands,
- 14:15Speaker 1: We're just gonna do our show our ability.
- 14:20Speaker 3: And yeah, I mean I'm willing, you know, really.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Soak it up because we don't get to go there
- 14:28Speaker 1: or an awful lot. We love being there, we have
- 14:30Speaker 1: a lot of friends there.
- 14:32Speaker 3: The beautiful place to be.
- 14:34Speaker 1: We're just super grateful more than ever, you know, that
- 14:38Speaker 1: we get the opportunity to do.
- 14:40Speaker 3: This and go to these places.
- 14:41Speaker 1: And the fact that we have fans on the other
- 14:46Speaker 1: side of the planet, it's not lost on us. So yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 1: we're we're really looking forward to. Australia has always been
- 14:57Speaker 1: always been great to us, ever since very beginning. You know,
- 15:00Speaker 1: it's always been a great spot, always been somewhere that's
- 15:04Speaker 1: embraced the band.
- 15:05Speaker 3: I really understood the band. So nice.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it'll be it'll be nice to connect with our
- 15:10Speaker 1: fans there and you know, touch base and.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Yeah, well looking forward to having you out, that's for sure.
- 15:17Speaker 2: And you know, Australia has got a pretty pretty hard, cool,
- 15:20Speaker 2: you know, metal following, which is nice, you know to
- 15:24Speaker 2: it's expand and I think, you know, to think so
- 15:26Speaker 2: that like a Parkway Drive and bands like that that
- 15:29Speaker 2: have really opened that up. And we've been basic and
- 15:34Speaker 2: it's it's good, it's nice. It's therapeutic through the speaker, absolutely, Yeah,
- 15:41Speaker 2: And so we plans to hang around for a little
- 15:43Speaker 2: bit after the tour, or you can go straight back home.
- 15:46Speaker 3: I know.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I've got two kids, two young kids, so there is
- 15:50Speaker 1: there is no post tour holidays for me.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I'm not sure. Maybe some of the other guys are
- 15:57Speaker 3: doing that, but I.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Would you're younger.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I would love to be able to spend some time there.
- 16:02Speaker 1: But I got three year old in a seven year old.
- 16:04Speaker 2: So yeah, they're very dependent.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and I go and I go away enough as
- 16:09Speaker 1: it is from them, So I just try and and.
- 16:13Speaker 2: That's a short time, you know, before you know what.
- 16:17Speaker 2: But either they're growing up having babies of their own
- 16:20Speaker 2: like mine and my grandson. It was three on Mondays,
- 16:24Speaker 2: so wow.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Yeah, well it doesn't it doesn't. It doesn't last for ever,
- 16:29Speaker 3: so there's no there's no resentment. I then get to
- 16:33Speaker 3: do that kind of stuff. I'm very I'm very grateful.
- 16:36Speaker 2: To Yeah, that's nice and so on movie supporting you
- 16:41Speaker 2: guys onto anyone or suing the whole lot or different
- 16:45Speaker 2: people in different bands and different places.
- 16:48Speaker 1: We have President and House of Protection, which is actually, yeah,
- 16:51Speaker 1: really a really cool bill. Lots of friends, lots of people,
- 16:55Speaker 1: we're known for a long long time.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yeah, cool.
- 16:59Speaker 1: And out and most most importantly to fans too, great bands.
- 17:05Speaker 3: So I think it's a great bill.
- 17:07Speaker 1: It's a great bill, and I think a lot of
- 17:09Speaker 1: fans will be excited about it as well.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Actually yeah, yeah for sure. And just when the capitals
- 17:14Speaker 2: are you know, no regional shows, it's just the majors.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Not even not even Adelaid or Perth.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Oh there you go. We're very luckly for.
- 17:23Speaker 1: The discuss, to the discuss the people in those cities. Yeah,
- 17:28Speaker 1: unfortunately it just gets less than fiable.
- 17:33Speaker 3: To do.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Yeah, we will will try and do it them again
- 17:37Speaker 1: one day. I know that there's we get a lot
- 17:40Speaker 1: of grief, especially of fans in Perth. But it's the
- 17:43Speaker 1: same with it's the same with every tool, like every
- 17:45Speaker 1: you know, there's always places that are left out.
- 17:48Speaker 2: And yeah, but it's that time of you too, goes,
